(Heyo, I hope you don't mind me sharing my thoughts in your inbox. I just think you're cool and have good opinions, so here I am.)

OK, so I love Komahinanami as an OT3. As friends, or romantically, or whatever. I just love them a lot.

What I reeeeally don't like about it, though, is (some of) the fans' portrayal of it. For some people, it's never Komahinanami as a three-way relationship, with them all caring for and loving each other equally.

It's either Komahina with Chiaki just "added on", or it's Hinanami with Nagito just "added on", or it's Komahina + Hinanami with no interaction between Nagito and Chiaki at all.

(Like... where's the Komanami love?)

And if they do interact, then it's almost always negative. Chiaki's made out to be the girl who Nagito hates more than anything else, the girl who gets in the way of Komahina. And Nagito's made out to be this jealous, possessive asshole who is disgusted by Chiaki and only cares about Hajime. Which is just 1) not true to the characters at all, and 2) really confusing to me, because I don't know where it comes from other than just projection.

People do realise that Nagito never showed one single hint of either hatred towards Chiaki or posessiveness towards Hajime, right? I don't know where this whole "Nagito hates Chiaki, is jealous of her, and wanted to kill her for the sake of Hajime" thing comes from. Maybe it's just some fans' projection, but... it's just not canon, and it's not part of Nagito's character at all.

And Hajime isn't the only person who Nagito is capable of caring about or developing a positive relationship with. Let him have friends and people he cares about other than Hajime, even if you only ship Komahina.

Bottom line: I love Nagito, Chiaki and Hajime, I love fan works where they interact, and I love it when they're actually in character, and not made totally OOC to satisfy fans' bad character interpretations and hatred of female characters.

Hooo boi. Hoooo boi. Oh anon, you just tackled one of my biggest pet peeves of this fandom right to its core. Also thanks for saying I’m cool. :3

Firstly, the denial of the Komanami side of KomaHinaNami, but honestly… that I could deal with. This is why I focus on a lot of the KomaNami side of things on my blog but I don’t mind so much the “Hajime has two hands” side of this ship because usually from what I’ve seen, people have Chiaki be Nagito’s best friend or wing lady with Hajime and he appreciates and adores her and confides in her about Hajime and shares Hajime with her and all three are happy. Like.. in a way, that’s still ultra pippity poppity cute!

But yeah, the KomaHina fans who like to portray Chiaki as just the girl who is in the way of their relationship, as if Nagito hates or is jealous of Chiaki… no, just no. It has never once been like that! Before he really got to know Hajime, Chiaki was the only person who accepted and tried to understand Nagito. She was kind to him and he seemed to appreciate her in turn, insisting that her being their class rep made her their biggest light of Hope. He even pleads with her not to take on Junko, that he knew they were no chance against them but believes in Chiaki anyways and is devastated to the point of breaking down and sobbing at her death. Of course, he twists things and beseeches Chiaki’s name, insisting that she can lift them up with her death… but only because he’s coping. In his own world in the Neo World Program, she is missing because the memory of her (and Hajime) hurt him so much that he had to block it out. His desire to see her along with the rest of the class brings her back to them as an AI that leads them all back to the right path.

As for the idea that Nagito is jealous of Chiaki… I think they get that from one scene in DR2 where Chiaki says she’s gonna go find Fuyuhiko in Chapter 2 to question him. She leaves and Hajime is irked about being left alone with Nagito, to which Nagito is like “Oh I’m sorry! You wanted her to stay?!” Honestly… people seem to ignore that before Chiaki left, Nagito expressed concern about her questioning Fuyuhiko and told her to not let him “get rough” with her. So… Nagito clearly cares. Out of everyone (including Hajime) in the main storyline, Nagito openly praises Chiaki and her talents the most. He will also politely oblige her and be quiet when she asks while he does not for anyone else. Also the thing is… Nagito is pretty protective of Chiaki. In Chapter 4, when Chiaki gets overwhelmed by Nagito being clingy, she runs away from him only for him to appear behind her five minutes later and urging her to remember that she could get hurt on her own and that she shouldn’t have run off.

More to the point, let’s pretend Chiaki and Nagito were like… rivals for Hajime’s affection like Chisa and Juzo were. That they directly mirror them (they don’t as much as we think). Even Juzo and Chisa loved and appreciated each other platonically. They were incredibly important to each other in this show while being in love with the same person. In the mangas furthermore, we have these scenes (So tell me, tell me to my face that Chiaki is the girl that Nagito somehow hates, that he never cared for her beyond a romantic rival. Just tell me. And yes yes I know the mangas are secondary canon, but when like two or three of them show all these moments of Chiaki and Nagito supporting each other, come the fuck on. I stand by that it enriches our current canon.):

OH GOSH okay ummmmmm right off the bat dr1 is kinda of difficult. my ot3 for dr1 is naegirikusaba, so they’re one of my favorite trios... but they don’t really interact in canon... i like naegi & kirigiri & togami, but moreso post-dr1 since it’s only after they escape that they (aka togami) start like,, actually being friendly to each other. but if i had to pick an overall trio... i gotta go with the og tpg’s. naegi, kiri, and toges have such a fun dynamic, and the way they seem to go in circles - with toges and kiri bickering while naegi desperately tries to intervene - is so fun to think about.

for the second game it isn’t as difficult of a decision; i gotta go with hinata & nanami & komaeda. i just think that they’d be so soft?? nanami and ko work together to help hinata know that he’s not worthless despite having a talent, nanami and hinata help validate ko and keep from going all despair-y, and ko and hinata get nanami to go out of the house and, ya know, interact with society. they’re their own support group, whether that’s as a romantic bond (komahinanami is my ot3 for sdr2) or a platonic one, and i’m here for it.

v3 isn’t a difficult decision either, but that’s probably because i don’t know much about it still, ehehe... i really need to watch it skdjkfksk. anyway, i’d have to pick saihara & harukawa & momota! they’re just... such a chaotic trio. i love them sm. so many antics... so many memes... they’re so dysfunctional but at the same time they work out so they’re better than me. also awkward love triangle hours for days. but all around?? very soft. momota carries the other two around. momobile.

also i know dr3 isn’t a game but i feel like i had to mention how much i love yukizome & munakata & sakakura. they are... such a disaster oh my god. a bigger mess of a love triangle than the v3 trio. everyone loves munakata, including munakata, and it’s hell. all around soft, but hell. someone help them jesus christ.

I never really talk about KomaNami, because whenever I do, somehow and somewhere, I find resistance ^^; It is one of those controversial ships, mostly because it is one of the “popular” Komaeda×(girl) ships that people don’t like others shipping. But yes, KomaNami is one of my OTPs! I love them dearly, but am too afraid of expressing myself more openly. Hopefully that changes this next spring! I want to create a KomaNami event.

3. What is your favorite AU/prompt idea/trope for your pairing?

I really want a DR3 AU, honestly. I do think they should have been much better friends than they were in canon. Like, in DR3 in particular, that set-up was right there… two students who outcast themselves from a chaotic classroom, and Nanami and Komaeda sharing a love for games and silence.

Nanami joins in the class, but struggling because they reject Komaeda, who is the friend she had before warming up to the class. She and him always pairing up for class activities because she refuses to leave him alone, and the feeling start to stir. She still feels awkward about how he talks about hope and they challenge each other’s ideals, but in the end, the only thing they want is to help each other. There’s also this struggle that she wants him to be accepted by the class, but neither he nor the rest of the class want that, so she’s stressed about that and organized more class activities so that at least she and Komaeda can still hang out and have fun “with” the class.

Whether it is romantic or platonic, I want her and Komaeda to be important to each other so that it makes sense that Komaeda falls to despair. It could be just the two of them at the end trying to figure out why the class is spread out, and even Miss Yukizome is acting weird, so they use class time to investigate and come across Junko. Junko finds Nanami to be just as resilient as Naegi with that optimism and decides to use her to get to Komaeda, who may be a “hope fanboy” but is already on the brink of despair with all the tragedy in his life. Using her typically means death/torture anyways. She probably has it be an execution for Chiaki Nanami and Komaeda’s Hope because she dredges up all of the past tragedies and extrapolates on future ones, and that she feeds Komaeda with the lie that Despair will bring a brighter Future as Nanami is being executed/becomes nonresponsive.

I even think a DR2 AU is necessary. Nanami in DR2 is annoyed at, and avoidant of Komaeda. That makes no sense for an AI programmed to create safety and observe the class to be avoidant of the “most dangerous” individual. I want her to always be following him and Hinata. With Hinata, it makes more sense since he is the main pillar in the trials and lost of them want to hang around him, since he is the safest. It is harder to justify hanging out with Komaeda. I think that it would start by her leaving food for Komaeda while he is captured without him noticing (whenever he is unconscious) but she struggles with finding food/drinks that won’t just spill/make a mess. He catches her finally and he really unsettles her, but as long as neither of them tell (and she doesn’t explain how she knows he was captured), she no longer has to be as secretive to him and feeds him (much to his embarrassment and resistance, but she hardly understands why). It becomes a habit that she gravitates toward him while there is free time since Hinata just goes to whoever (Komaeda makes it easy by mostly choosing the library while the others are on the first island/the fourth island). I would like to think she overhears Komaeda talking to Hinata about his life and, while still wary of him, isn’t quite as emotionally distant and is more open to working with him on the third case, even if he is still annoying to work with what with him having a bit of liars disease in him. Speaking of which, it is weird that she chooses not to stay at the hospital, so I would probably have her join Hinata, Kuzuryuu, and Tsumiki, and she would end up spending time at each place like Hinata, visiting each room. And in CH4, nothing really changes except that she is somewhat in the same area as Komaeda during free time. After Komaeda blows up at them in CH4 and the trial, I think that by breaking into Monomi’s house and stealing her diary, he figures out it is Chiaki rather easily since she mentions he had been captured before Souda and Nidai let it slip and she may casually mention him at the library a few times. He confronts her about it, but she remains unwilling to cooperate, so he takes things in his own hands once more. And that would be the end of their canon AU interaction.

Something that I really would want in post-canon is that they recover Chiaki and she checks up on everybody, including Komaeda. If she were to get a robot body, I want her to hang out with Hinata and Komaeda mostly XD Of course, she still hangs out with the others, but she would have spent most of her time looking after those two.

Ok, so canon rewrite is probably not following the way the question was meant to be answered, and I kinda owe one more response to anon anyways, so here’s a trope!I really like the idea of a Hanahaki AU for KomaNami! I would like to imagine it going with mutual pining, but I can definitely see it as Komaeda suffering because of unreturned feelings for Hinata, and Nanami for unreturned feelings for Komaeda. Komaeda initially thought he only doomed himself, but to doom Nanami as well makes him, well, despair. And I could see three endings here. One would be where he can’t force the feelings because he genuinely doesn’t like Nanami romantically at all, but she’s his friends and he hates she suffers and wishes she would just get the surgery, but she dies first and then Hinata turns out reciprocating his feelings, letting Komaeda live, but they are both grieving over Nanami and blame themselves for her death. Another would be that he does actually like her, but not as much as Hinata. He had decided, for her sake, to get the surgery since she refuses to, and the two don’t regret it (well, Nanami does since he basically forced himself to not love Hinata, but he reminds her that he does love her, and it’s only grown since then). Actually, this could still turn into a tragedy where he convinces himself he loves Nanami and can save her by removing feelings he has for Hinata, but all for naught because she feels it disgenuine OR he actually never had feelings anyways and she passes away. The final one is that Nanami only thinks his disease is because he like Hinata, when it’s really mutual pining, and this could go two ways of they realize it too late, or they both realize it together and are equally embarrassed about the situation XD. Oh yeah and my KomaHinaNami heart has this as a three-way where Hinata is involved too and they all get together and are happy XD self indulgence is a key factor lol

Anyway, I’m working on some fanfic ideas for mainly Owari no Seraph right now (and Danganronpa in the future), and I would find rping extremely helpful in my writing process. It would be nice to have someone to discuss ideas and write with. So I would say that I am looking for an rp partner/possible co-writer, specifically for Owari no Seraph and Danganronpa. Even if you don't wanna write stories with me, know that I will always ask for consent for plotting, or if I use them in any stories of mine. :)

I consider myself very literate, and love multi-paragraph rp's. However, I do not mind short starters as long as it's not just one sentence.

Well, it’s kind of funny, I didn’t start off having any opinion on this ship. The main reason, I think, was because I fell in love with HH first (I’ll explain later).

Actually, for quite a few fandoms I just tend to like friends in trios. Merchandise and canon plots just tend to sell people in Trios sometimes (Like KH does it for all three main protagonists, HP did it with the Golden Trio, N@ruto made it extremely easy as well). I don’t know why that is exactly, except that maybe it’s just an easy way to show platonic interaction without it being misinterpreted as canonly romantic between two people? (or create love triangles :P)

And I mean, Spike Chunsoft really lay it on rather thick that these three are the most important characters in DR2 to them, so a lot of the merchandise they sell about DR2 just tend to have the TPG at center stage (the puppets and plushies, official art for those DR3 cafe events had only them representing DR3Z, NK and CN always being shown larger than the rest of the cast besides HH, MonoMonoMachine had just the three to represent DR2 in the pixel icons, etc.)

Well, I have more to say, on a more personal level, under the cut, and I rambled again... sorry!!!

Coding it the same was as before! HH for best boy, NK for Lucky, CN for Gamer

In the beginning, I had no love or hate with CN or NK. I recognized the game was making me see they were important, but that didn’t mean I had to have a positive or negative opinion. I ended up really liking them after going through the FTEs  though, and so as I played the game, I began noticing their interactions with HH a lot more! I guess it’s to do with how much they both help HH in the trials (Hence why the Japanese fandom nicknamed them the Trial Point Getters/TPG). People that hate CN see her as kind of repeating what NK says, I think, but interpreted differently, I’d say she says it in a way that HH doesn’t feel patronized. He doesn’t feel weary of her actions or words as he does with NK (you really can’t blame him with all the things NK pulls). However, he also recognizes that what NK says is useful, even if he does so begrudgingly.

I liked NK/HH, and at the time I kind of liked HH/CN (to a lesser degree). Seeing as those two are the ones that HH was closest to (NK in the prologue, CN at the end), it kind of just made sense to me to have them all be friends. It seems kind of mutually beneficial, too. CN is just a very supportive character, and pretty optimistic, and both NK and HH are people who’ve been hurt in the past and need reminding that they matter. HH is able to be the reasonable one of the group, being “average” he tries to talk common sense in to them and takes lead on what to do about it all (like in the trials) Although, it’s pretty funny seeing him just fumbling trying to understand both of them, too, hahaha. With NK, he gives a real kick to reality and forces them both to see a truth neither wants to admit. That’s pretty much how I see it anyways.

Now, I can see why it would make no sense, and the main reason there is no canon interaction between the three, alone. And furthermore, between NK and CN, the few interactions they had were just plain eh, especially since CN never seems to care about him personally :/. This sucks because, in my opinion, they’d be really interesting? CN is very idealistic, even as an AI. I mean her entire character is based on being this ideal person, always trying to stop the murders from happening in her small ways. Conversely, NK is a realist. He seeks the truth, and reveals it at the right time, even if it hurts. On top of that, CN being the nurturing type to NK’s self-destructiveness, or NK being able to point the flaws in her idealism, just seems like a good segue into canon interaction that never happened.... wasted potential, lol. In some ways, I guess you could say it’s “completing the triangle,” but I just honestly find them interesting on their own. *shrugs*

I love HH (especially him), NK, and CN a lot, and they mean so much to me individually that I want what is best for them. And I think they can bring about the best in each other, like a balance. With ships, I tend to base it off of personality rather than canon interaction, so even though this trio doesn’t have canon interactions alone together, I guess I enjoy imagining what it would be like if they did. And I know I’m not the only one. There was one fanfic especially that made me realize why I think it would be a nice ship, platonicly or even romantically (as silly as it sounds to have a poly relationship). It was Finally in Love by Dizplicity, and it’s really sweet and innocent, also rather silly. The sequel is a bit crushing after reading something so sweet though :,)

I know that some people really see it as a true friendship, others they have the headcanons or AUs that CN is the wingman to NK/HH, or that they both fight for HH’s attention (and more rarely, NK or CN is the center of attention). Me, I just want them to be happy ^^ I don’t care if it’s romantic or platonic (although for the most part, I see them as platonic) And I suppose it helps that fanartists/writers tend to love drawing/writing them as coexisting happily together as well. Compare that to a lot of pairings, you find a lot less angst, right?

I guess, though, on a more abstract level, even though I didn’t start off liking it, it just kept growing on me the more I though about it. Now if I see it, or it’s mentioned, I fangirl really hard. Probably too hard ^^; But, they make me happy, and TPG makes me so happy, so what to do! 

I write all of this (I dunno, you might’ve/probably should’ve skimmed with how long this is), but honestly it’s just my take on it! My aim here isn’t to convince you to ship it (I’m definitely not expecting that) If you still don’t get why it’s shipped and I confused you more, or none of this really convinced you as “enough to be shippable,” that’s absolutely okay!
