today we're at
descendants of the sun
our beautiful beautiful man song joong ki as armyman yoo shi jin and the fl song hye kyo as the doctor kang mo yeon. second lead couple, as usual, more widely shipped as always, seo dae young and yoon myeong joo.
admittedly, i was looking forward to military man x doctor trope vv much but i was not too happy with how they pulled off the main couple.
i. im sorry, but i was so used to ship vincenzo and hong cha young from vincenzo that my brain could physically not compute song joong ki with another woman. i know they were married BUT.
ii. the fl. my dear lord. so annoying. AT FIRST, i really understood where she was coming from. i truly truly understood her moral dilemma. but oh dear god is there not a limit to writers just having the fl find reasons to reject shi jin just for the sake of plot twists?
iii. BUT i really liked how they explored that dilemma about her protecting people by saving lives and him protecting people by taking lives. it honestly got repetitive tho, so that made me lose interest as well.
iv. one thing i gotta admire — the amount of depth they gave each character. every side doctor who came with the relief team had so much of a story, and it was made in a way that was not intrusive to the lead couple or even the second lead couple.
v. and ugh, of course, the badass females. i mean, the military doctor? she was peak badass. it did annoy me in that scene where the guys were sent a package by some girls and the two doctors went ballistic over that. but when they fought over that idiot college guy or whoever — idk, it irked me but all the well, we always love jealous protags.
vi. of course, a separate point for song joong ki. that man is a work of art. i used to think he’s got such a baby face when i started vincenzo, but by the last ep of vincenzo, i. . .really stopped thinking otherwise. but his performance was, as always, amazing, and i havent seen reborn rich yet but im excited. + the epic bromance, in competition with the goblin and the grim reaper.
in short, if you like hard to get girl tropes, some action mixed with drama, a LOT of second hand embarrassment, then please check out descendants of the sun.
5/10

a few notes about The Midnight Romance in Hagwon
it's all too similar to Something in the Rain
lots of spoilers ahead
the red umbrella that started everything
the age gap (they're both 6 years apart) and the ages (29-35 respectively)
the frenemy co-worker fall-out because of a crush on the lead male
the co-worker bonding due to the secret affair
the apartment the lead female lives in
the childish behavior of the younger male partner to reflect they'll be hastier as they're more youthful, therefore immature and the woman is basically dating a child
the hard-working female lead whose life is ruined bc she fell in love
even down to the cast, the lead male was in Something in the Rain! He's familiar with the environment all too well!
The male leads names Joon-hee and Joon-Ho The OG actress SON YE JIN and the female lead's name Seo Hye Jin
Like I understand the director is the same but this is all too comical at this point. The actors have been re-purposed, and the plot has somewhat been recycled.
I was very excited to see Wi Ha-Joon in a romance where he'll finally be getting some action. I know a lot of us were just waiting on a kissing scene of his since he's been reluctant to give us one. But for the love of all that is holy, they even recycled his final get-up in Little Women in the final episode of Hagwon.
While, of course, I can't boil the entire thing down to just these similarities, it just didn't leave a mark because it didn't feel super new?
Jung Ryeo-Won is gorgeous, I feel like someone could bury me in her dimples. Wi Ha-Joon didn't fit into this series somehow? Or has he already been typecast? Could it be that he just didn't let himself be vulnerable with anyone in real life that he doesn't know how to act it out in a romantic series? I will never know.
I appreciate his vigor in running to dick down Seo Hye Jin but his romantic feelings in Little Women were more believable and they were literally non-existent.
I mean the soundtrack was every bit of soft. Bops all the way.
I enjoyed the heated debates on how to teach students rather than treat them as racehorses in a derby. I feel like if I actually knew Korean I would have learned something from this series. However, the plot twists and the sneaky conversations behind closed doors did not create the effect the scenarists were going for, honestly.
The downfall of two women who were behind most of the chaos that carried on throughout the show was a catfight? I've never seen lazier ass writing in my life.
Instead, the only breath of fresh air was the second couple defying gender norms that were heavily cast through the drama and lifting the weight off of the man of the relationship (Choi Seung-gyu) by allowing him to study as long as he wants, granted by the woman of the relationship (Nam Cheong-mi) who declared she was okay to provide financial support.
and last but not least THAT'S HOW HE FUCKING PROPOSED????

Let's Play A Love Game
Author's note: this one is rated 😈 so yeah. There was originally more angst in my mind but once I got to that part I was over it lol I'm the worst at angst I much rather make it naughty. It's more rushed than I wanted but I don't really have time to write 10k fics right now. But hopefully soon.
Summary: it's just pretend, right?
She hadn't meant to push the event in the corner of her mind until she forgot about it completely, so much so that when the e-vite showed up in her inbox she stared at it in wide eyed shock not even noticing Mi-Seon creeping up behind her.
"It's already time for that? I usually know it's coming because you start buying expensive dresses you can't afford and crying at your credit card bill. Maybe country life has really changed you hm?"
False. Inaccurate. Utterly wrong to the every core.
She lets out a shrill scream letting her head fall painfully on her desktop.
"I'm an idiot! Just kill me now, I deserve it." She has nothing to wear, okay the mountain of boxes in her living room, bedroom and some hidden in the linen closet beg to defer but none of that is worthy of this event. The annual dentist convention in Seoul, it's a week long getaway. It's meant to be an opportunity to build connections and attend professional learning classes, but that has long been abandoned. Now it is a fashion show and chance to show off your success and this year more than ever she has to impress everyone. They all look down on her and her cute little practice. Those judgemental snarky bitches.
"Do we have anymore patients?" She absently asks her best friend, only friend already getting up and walking away.
"No that was the last one. Do you want to call it a day?" She doesn't give a verbal reply lost in her phone and the disease that is online shopping, in the span of three minutes she has already added seven dresses to her cart.
"Chief Hong is going to have a long day."
It's just as Mi-seon says the next day the nosy know it all shows up glaring at her over the handful of packages in his arms.
"Don't tell me you're doing this again. What more could you possibly have to order? How much things does one woman need?" His voice is an air warmer than the last time they were in this very same position, but she tries not to think too hard about it. Their relationship is too confusing these days, as temperamental as the sea.
"Are delivery men allowed to complain this much when they're doing a job they are getting paid for?" She snarks back, snatching her packages from his arms with a huff. Ignoring the grin on his face as she disappears into her house.
"That better be all you order. I'm not coming back."
He comes back. At least six more trips, more boxes each time on the last day he doesn't simply leave after making his delivery.
"I'm coming in for tea because of you I've been working too hard." She squeaks indignantly as he pushes past her, their shoulders brushing in the tight space of the doorway.
She should wait until she doesn't have an audience but she's too impatient so while he's making the tea in her kitchen (so rude and intrusive), she starts to open a few boxes pulling out the contents. Dresses, blouses, shirts, hair accessories, lipsticks in all shades and hues, and of course shoes; heels, flats and everything in between.
"Your house looks like a department store." She jumps at his voice glancing up at him, almost laughing at the hedgehog mug that he's drinking out of that Mi-seon gave her as a joke. Leave it to him to pick the most ridiculous mug.
"Hurry up and go so I can try everything on." She starts to take the objects out and organize them, putting together possible outfits lazily.
"Why not have a fashion show?" He slurps loudly at the tea, sighing and smiling down at the warm beverage. Acting like he's never had tea before, such a plebian.
"A fashion show?"
"Yeah, model all that", he motions to the new boxes littering her bedroom floor, "and I'll let you know what looks good."
She scoffs, loudly looking at his lackluster outfit; a simple white tee tucked into dark cargo pants with suspenders.
"What do you know about fashion?" She replies meanly, despite the little voice in her mind that reminds her that while his outfits are more practical than fashionable there is something distracting about the way his shoulders fill out his shirts and the way his long legs sit in his pants.
He shrugs looking down at himself, "I'm the town handy man I have no need to look good. But I'm still a man I can tell you what I think looks good on a woman."
Oh. It's a nonchalant statement said with no real heat but the implications make her skin warm up, she's never once thought that he saw her as a woman; nor considered looking at him like a man. (Lies.)
"I--why woul--why?" She stutters through an answer, tongue heavy in her mouth. He looks back nonplussed, sitting down pointedly on her couch.
"Never took you for the shy kind. You growing bashful now Ms. Dentist?" His eyes twinkle with mischief and she knows that she's being played but she wants nothing more than to wipe that smug look off his face. Slamming her room door, she pulls off her casual house clothes and grabs the first thing that catches her attention- a buttery yellow dress that grazes her knee, pairing them with white heels and a high messy bun. A swipe of lip tint completes the look and she confidently opens her room door.
Du-sik is staring aimlessly at his phone and doesn't notice her reappearance at first, so she coughs loudly folding her arms and when his eyes land on her, a chill runs down her spine at the look that lands on her body. It's been a long time since a man looked at her in this way, his eyes are undressing her even though he was the one who implored her to dress up in the first place. She hates it. At least she should hate it. But she can't ignore the satisfaction that washes over her at his dumbfounded look, that smug look obliterated by her very first look.
"Well?" She pushes harder, twirling to give him the full look. His gasp is loud behind her, she knows exactly why. The deep revealing plunge that travels all the way to the small of her back. There's no way she would wear this to the convention much too suggestive but that's her business.
"Wher-" his voice cracks and this time she can't contain her smile, dimples flashing now at her clear affect on him, clearing his throat he tries again, "Where exactly are you going again?"
She hums turning back around, gleeful at the vibrant blush on his cheeks. So he is just a man after all.
"A dentist convention." She answers cheekily and he guffaws loudly, eyes narrowing at her like he knows exactly what she's trying to do. They stare at each other for a long moment and she ultimately breaks the stand still, realizing what's happening. It feels a lot like flirting.
Collecting herself, she barrels back into the room.
"What the hell are you doing?" She whispers to her reflection, face too flushed for her liking.
A hard knock at the door pulls her from her self chastisement, "You didn't even wait for my rating."
She sighs loudly covering her face in embarrassment at her own action. She doesn't even have alcohol to blame this time.
"I don't care. This was stupid, let's stop."
Of course he ignores her.
"I liked it. But it's too...sexy for convention. You should wear that for someone special. I doubt anyone with a beating heart would be able to resist you."
What the fuck.
This isn't who they are, when did they become comfortable enough for conversations like this? They despised each other, right? Confused and annoyingly flattered, she peels the dress off her body trying her hardest not to think about the fact that only a door separates him and her naked body.
"I would love to see the others. But I have to go, but if you want my opinion. Red is definitely your color."
"What?" She replies, but she can hear the too loud click of the front opening and then closing and just as capriciously as he arrived, he leaves.
Burying something that feels a lot like disappointment she flops onto her bed, head fuzzy like its been wrapped in cotton.
"What is going on?"
They don't see much of each other the next day and it's unusual given how much they see each other on a regular basis but she refuses to think about it or even consider that he's avoiding her. He's just busy and she doesn't care anyway, they have nothing to do with each other.
The convention is in two days now, she has her overnight bag packed with all her new purchases and the messages have been pouring in their group chat. She's mostly chosen to ignore them but on a whim she decides to check what they're so excited about, only to feel her stomach drop.
Why isn't Hye Jin answering?
Maybe she's busy with her mystery man 😉
Oh! She has to bring him, we need to interrogate him!
Yoon Hye Jin don't pretend you don't see these messages!!
That she had forgotten about.
"Why did you tell them that he's interested in you? Has living here altered your brain, you idiot." She berates herself.
"Who's interested in you? Why are you an idiot?" Mi-seon looks curious from the doorway, without waiting for an invitation she hops onto the bed with two cans of beer. She grabs one, drinking it in a flash.
"Oh it's that kind of night." Mi-seon says excitedly running to grab more beers.
"So let me get this straight, you told them that Chief Hong is interested in you and that he's been chasing you but you're not interested?"
She nods meekly, wishing the floor would swallow her up.
"Why did you lie?"
That's the brunt of the issue, she's a liar. She should have sent her initial message and told them that there was nothing between them but how could she when they were all calling him handsome and acting like she finally did something right? She'd spent that entire dinner feeling like her teenage self on the outside looking in, wanting nothing more than to be someone worthy of being included.
"I know I should have told the truth."
"Yes, you should have told them that you're interested in him too."
Huh.
Time stops as she processes the words that her best friend just uttered. There is static in her head as she tries to make sense of it.
"What are you talking about?"
Mi-seon looks at her unimpressed.
"You can both keep lying to yourself but the rest of us aren't as stupid. You're both interested in each other. It's mutual."
She wants to ardently deny the accusation but the words are caught in her throat and all she can manage are refusing sounds.
"You've been wearing red all week." Mi-seon says accusingly and she jumps up in huff, "So what? I'm allowed to wear colors!"
"You hate wearing red. You said it makes your skin look too pale. You hardly ever wear it. So color me surprised when I learned that red is the favorite color of a certain part timer."
That damn town chat. There has to be a way to get Mi-seon out of it. Maybe it was a mistake letting her live here. She was learning too much.
"Don't even bother to deny it. I won't believe anything you say. But I think you should ask him to go with you, you'll get some time alone to figure this out."
There's nothing to figure out. They are..... acquaintances who can admit that the other is vaguely attractive at times. His face isn't all that bad and she's pretty, so it's natural that there is tension at times, like he said they were still humans.
So she doesn't tell him about her fib, pretending everything is fine until it's the day of the convention and her anxiety has all but smothered her and her hands have a slight tremble in them as she starts to drive.
"It's going to be fine. Everything will be okay." She doesn't believe a word she's saying to herself, her heart is thumping in her heaving chest. She doesn't want to go alone. Convincing Mi-seon to leave was a failed endeavour, her and that police officer becoming inseparable. She knew what that smile meant when her best friend had realized that she would have the house to herself. She could barely get a word in as Mi-seon started frantically shaving her legs then pushed her out of the bathroom to "shave her wild cat".
With a sigh she starts driving, the car too quiet despite what she'd told Du-Sik and the Gongjin grannies. Uncharacteristically she turns on the radio, kpop blaring from the speakers. She recognizes the tune, never before has something as mundane as butter seemed so interesting but the kitchen essential was given new life by the song. She bops her head to the catchy beat, trying to ignore the fact that she's driving to the lion's den.
Some time later, she pulls into the hotel a valet already coming over to get her car. Grabbing her overnight bag, she exits the car handing her keys to the waiting hands of the valet.
Everyone is here and none of them had come alone, she was the only one without a plus one. They haven't noticed her yet so she watches as they all laugh at a joke she can't hear, unnecessarily stroking at their husband's chests as if to show off their exorbitantly priced wedding rings. Everything was always a competition here.
She shouldn't have come. Their was nothing about her life that they would be envious of. She was going to make a fool of herself. Impulsively she starts stepping back but it's too late, Hong In-A spots her and points her out and immediately all eyes are on her, they all start walking over to her and she wants nothing more than to run far, far away. Get on a bus and go to the beach and never see any of them ever again. But she's no longer a child, no longer that scared little girl; worked too hard to shed that skin.
Fortifying herself she puts on a fake smile. Ready for war.
"Hye-Jin ah, there you are. We were beginning to think you wouldn't come. You never responded in the group chat." Ye-Ri states with an attitude, looking around her as if searching for someone and eyes brightening when she sees no one. "Did you come alone?" This makes all of them perk up, looking around like chickens with their heads clucking. She swallows the shame the question elicits, "Who would I be with? I told you in already, it's not like that."
They all look at her with pity, it makes her want to slap them all across the face. Who were they to make her feel like shit, she didn't need anyone that didn't make her pathetic.
Finally one of the husbands cracks the awkward tension by introducing himself, she tries her best to ignore the pervasive way his eyes run down her body. Instinctively she crosses her arms, feeling naked under his stare. Nobody else notices her discomfort and after all the introductions, they all walk away as if she's no longer worth their time.
Lump in her throat she walks into the hotel, determined not to show them that they've gotten under her skin.
There's a scheduled lunch and she tries to find a new table but Sung-Mi waves her over and she doesn't see anyone else she recognizes or wants to sit with.
He hadn't been wrong, she has no friends besides Mi-seon.
"You were looking around, were you looking for someone? Are we not good enough to sit with?" The question is asked with a bite and sneer as if the idea is laughable that she would ever be better than any of them.
She swallows her pride, "No nothing like that. I was merely looking around."
Sung-Mi looks satisfied as if putting her in her place has righted her world.
They begin a conversation that completely excludes her, regaling drama that she knows nothing about and doing nothing to bring her up to date or invite her to join. It's the polar opposite of her experience in the countryside and with shocking clarity she realizes that she wishes she were there, it's only been a few hours but she misses it. Nobody looks down on her there, no usually she's the only doing that she notes with shame.
"I'll find the restroom." She says to no one because none of them are paying her any mind except the husband with the wandering eyes and she would much rather not have that attention.
Thankfully the bathroom is empty and she has to stop herself from splashing water on her face, her make-up was done perfectly it would be a waste to ruin it. Pushing her hair behind her ears she takes a deep breath and then another until her head is clearer, the noise lessening.
"It's only a day and a night. You've suffered far worst."
With that lacking pep talk she exits the bathroom, almost colliding into a wall. Wait, no it's just a person- a chest to be specific. She looks up ready to apologize when a familiar face stops her in her tracks.
"What are you doing here?" She stares flabbergasted at him, more dressed up than she's ever seen him. In a white suit with a white vest, the tee-shirt peeking under the only thing that feels like him to her. And his white sneakers. She can't hide her surprise at his sudden appearance and without thinking she starts to pull him to the side, to avoid being seen but she's not fast enough and soon they are swarmed by her colleagues, before she even has a chance to talk to him.
"Aren't you the man from the picture?" Yoo-Jin asks blushing way too much for a married woman if her husband's cold stare means anything.
"The picture?" Du-sik replies, clearly confused.
"You're the guy that's chasing after her. She told us that you liked her and you were courting her." Sung-Mi answers for her, she wants to vanish. It would be better if she had never existed. Even non-existence would be better than this embarrassing moment. "I got a picture of you two last time, when you followed her."
His eyes ping-pong between the group and her and she realizes this is his chance to ruin her. After everything she's done, all her rude comments and snobby remarks about the town and people he cares for so much, this is his chance for revenge. He can laugh and deny any feelings for her, tell them all that she's a liar and he's never been interested in her, not even once. This is what is going to happen. She prepares herself for the fall out, surely after this she won't be able to show her face in Seoul again.
He starts to laugh and her stomach tightens, her palms are so sweaty.
Here it goes.
"Oh I guess she wanted to keep me a secret."
Wait. What. That doesn't sound like denial.
"We're together now. I finally bulldozed those walls and made her mine. Nice to meet you all I'm Hong Du-sik, Hye-Jin ah's boyfriend."
Her eyes widen as he bows and starts to shake hands with the husbands, the one that stared at her looking disappointed. Their handshake goes on for a second too long, eventually with the latter pulling away with a pained look. She's too confused to consider what that means.
"And you were so cold earlier saying you had no one. Did you want to make a fool of us?"
He answers for her, "It's nothing like that, my honey is still getting used to us. I'm sorry I'm so late I had something to take care of."
Her head is spinning too fast to keep up with everything happening and she's grateful when he excuses them and guides her outside with a large hand on her hip.
Fresh air is much appreciated and she takes in huge heaps of it as soon as they're free.
Then reality crashes down on her.
He knows about her lying.
He had called her bluff.
But he didn't out her.
"Why didn't you tell them the truth?" She finally manages to say, head still reeling.
But instead of answering he's staring at her legs, then slowly his eyes swivel upward cross her thighs curving around her hips, past her breasts (a bit too slow there) before moving to her collar and settling on her face.
"You look great."
She feels the heat rushing to her face. What was he doing to her?
It hadn't been in purpose but she finds herself in red again, an a line dress with criss crossing straps over her shoulder and a middle slit. It was conservative without being too formal or professional. She'd felt comfortable in it but now seeing that look on his face, comfort is the last thing she feels.
He was distracting her and she couldn't afford that with those harpies inside waiting for her downfall. They needed to get back on track.
"What are you doing here?" She tries again, but he responds with his own question, "Why did you tell them that I was chasing you?"
"It was a mistake. They thought we were together and I just....said that for no reason." It's half the truth.
"They don't seem like your friends. You looked like you needed someone on your side, so I just found myself saying we were together for no reason."
She looks at him blankly, heart pounding now. In her moment of weakness instead of kicking her, he'd lended a helping hand. What kind of person did it make her for expecting the former?
"So what now?" She asks still in disbelief that he's here and that he'd told people that there were dating, she would be angry and offended later that they had readily believed it. Perhaps it didn't seem too farfetched now with him looking like that right now.
"Well, don't look but they're watching us through the glass."
This time she finds herself turning to look and he's the one that has to stop her, he does so by suddenly grabbing her hand and tugging her into his body. She squeaks at the collision. Leaning down so his lips are level with her ear, he speaks, "We can give them a show. I'm happy to be your pretend boyfriend."
Why?
She yearns to ask him why he's willing to go this far for her? Why was he even here when she had never told him where the convention was taking place? But his words were hot on her ear and she's tired of being their source of entertainment so she nods looking up at him, "Just this once. I'm going to lean on you. Let me borrow your eraser and copy your homework."
He stares before a blinding smile graces his handsome face.
"Let's go then." His hand is heavy on her waist as he walks back towards the hotel, taking his role very seriously it seems.
He fits in perfectly. Able to talk about a plethora of topics to anyone he's introduced to and even she's impressed by him. Be it travel, philosophy or poetry he seems well versed in everything things that even she is ignorant to and it makes her regret the way she looked down on him before, he was anything but a country bumpkin.
She leaves him to his conversation to get a drink, a whiskey on the rocks. Needing something hard tonight.
Not that. Down brain.
"Yoon Hye Jin? I would recognize that face anywhere."
Twisting to face the voice, she sees a familiar face- old classmate. Rung Do-Bae, they weren't anything more than classmates despite his many, many attempts.
His eyes sweep over her hungrily. She swallows her drink, painting on a shallow smile.
"Sunbae, how nice to see you here."
Invading her space he grabs her hand, "There is no need for such formalities. You can just call me by my name, Hye Jin ah."
As if she ever would.
Gently she tries to extract her hand but he won't let go and she doesn't want to make a scene.
Suddenly she's warmed by a body pressing into her, she knows who it is without even looking, her body relaxes immediately.
"Sorry I got lost in conversation honey. Who might this be? Another friend of yours?" He thrusts his right hand out and Do-Bae has no choice but to release her hand to return his handshake. Scarily enough she's starting to become used to his nickname, barely reacting to him using it again.
"Yes, this is my sunbae from school. Sunbae this is Hong Du Sik my....."
She knows that this is all an act, they were doing this to help her but she can't bring her tongue to form around the word, boyfriend.
"Her boyfriend." He finishes for her, pulling her tighter to his body.
But Do-Bae looks suspicious now.
"Boyfriend? I thought you were still single. You never changed your status on SNS. I've checked."
"Why are you so curious about that?" Du-sik challenges in return, doing a great job of sounding like a jealous boyfriend. She's almost even convinced.
"Hye Jin ah and I have always had a very special relationship. Beyond that of a hoobae and sunbae. Isn't that right?" He directs the last bit to her and she feels Du-sik stiffen next to her, seemingly believing these lies. So she clears that up.
"I have no idea what you're referring to honestly. We have never had anything that would constitute as a "special" relationship. I would appreciate if you didn't spread such lies, especially to my boyfriend. Enjoy the rest of your night."
She tugs Du-sik away, not waiting for a reply from the other man. The conversation was over anyway.
When they get far enough he speaks, "You have a lot of admirers."
She raises an eyebrow at the non-sequitur.
"Are you surprised?"
He brushes a hand across her cheek, making her freeze.
"No. It makes sense."
She blinks slowly before laughing, it sounds fake even to her ears.
"You should have been an actor. Your acting skills are incredible." He doesn't laugh, doesn't move before they're pulled into another conversation and she tries not to think about how tightly his body is pressed against her own.
"How is he in bed? He hasn't left you alone all day, I bet it's passionate." As soon as lunch had ended they had invited her to a spa, she'd considered saying no but she knew they would talk about her even if she wasn't there so it was best to at least know what they were saying.
Du-sik looked sad to see her go, but she told herself that she wasn't good at reading his faces. They hardly knew each other.
"I can't remember the last time I had a passionate night of sex. Kids and a full time job, leave no time for that. I'm pretty sure he's cheating on me and I'm too tired to even care." Sung-Mi confesses and she's shocked when the others nod in agreement instead of threatening to castrate him, as she'd done when Mi-seon told her about her ex boyfriend cheating.
"I have no complaints. He's... attentive. He's always touching me and pushing his way into my space. He's gentle but passionate, and I like...that he's so much bigger than me." She knows she should stop, this is definitely taking the lies too far. But that night bleeds into her thoughts, making everything she's saying feel true. He'd been so gentle with her, those huge hands cupping her face. She wondered how they would feel on other parts of her body.
"Damn. Look at you getting horny just from remembering. I'm so jealous."
Jealous. There were envious of her, it was all she'd been hoping for but the happiness she expected to erupt never comes. Instead she feels cheap, like she'd used Du-sik for her own benefit. She had tainted that night. This wasn't what she wanted.
As the day had gone on she found herself looking at him too much, he'd come all the way just for her and regardless of her brain trying to minimize that, it was huge. He hated snobby people like them who based a person's worth in their monetary success and yet he put on a smile and chatted with everyone, letting them mock his way of life and call people like him useless dreamers. All while she did nothing to defend him and drank wine, happy that they were being accepted.
He was the perfect gentleman all day and he was getting nothing in return for this. It was all just to help her.
Would a friend truly go this far to help? Was she being naive or was it like Mi-seon said, was she lying to herself?
"I'm such an idiot."
Without another word, she flees the sauna rushing to the locker room and changing back into her clothes. Nobody follows her because they aren't her friends. Why had she wasted so much time trying to impress these people who aren't even truly happy in their own lives?
The drive back is long, and she doesn't know what she's going to say but she knows that she's tired of being scared.
Leaving the key in the car she rushes past the valet, into the hotel elevator pressing their floor and waiting impatiently.
It takes three tries to get into their hotel room but once the door opens, he's right there. Sitting in the seat by the window reading a book.
"You're back early. I thought you would be gone until three?" He looks up, dog earring his book and giving her his full attention. Her heart skips a beat.
"Why did you agree to do this for me? Why go through all this trouble for me?"
It's the same question he's been asking himself since he first met her. Why was he was interested in her and why did he keep wanting to save her?
It was the desire that led to him being here.
He had accidentally overhead Mi-seon talking to Eun Chol about being worried about her, the convention was overnight and everyone would be bringing someone and she'd be all alone. The thought of her alone and isolated, made him race to her without a plan. Only stopping at a store to buy his outfit so he would fit in with her crowd, he'd spent more in that shop then he usually did in a week. But it was worth it for her.
It was a miracle that she hadn't questioned his presence more, he knew it was shameless and deceiving but none of this felt like pretending to him. His jealousy had been real, he'd had to strangle the urge to kick the pervert husband with the wandering eyes and then the insistent sunbae who wouldn't take a hint. She was a vision in the red dress and it wasn't a surprise that men found her enchanting, he just didn't like them looking at her. But she wasn't his, never would be because he couldn't confess.
They weren't right for each other.
"Do you like me?"
That question again. Last time he had laughed it off, called it absurd. But it wasn't. Not liking her would have been absurd.
"I don't know why you're asking me that."
"Because I'm tired of us lying to ourselves. Don't laugh and don't you dare say it's absurd again."
He can't respond, he's stuck on the word "us". It wasn't just him, they were an us?
Hearing that gives him courage he had long thought had been most forever.
"I wasn't pretending today. Nothing was fake to me, I meant it all." It's terrifying, unchartered land for them and he waits to see which one of them will chicken out first. It's sure to happen.
"I'm going to kiss you." She says instead of running like he expected and secretly wished for.
And then she's crossing the room and leaning down to grab his face, she watches him giving him a chance to pull away but he does the opposite, this time he meeting her half way. As soon as their lips meet the kiss is already too much, she's sliding into his lap and he wraps his arms around her tugging her closer until their chests are squished together.
He hasn't kissed anyone like this in a long time.
Hasn't been this close to losing control in a longer time.
"You're dangerous." He whispers into her mouth and she giggles at the statement, wiggling in his arms and rolling into him forcing a punched out groan from his lips.
Carefully he lifts her shirt watching her face closely for any signs that she wants to stop but finding nothing but her palpable lust.
Her skin is unbelievably smooth and soft and he can't stop himself from stroking her, rubbing at her back his hands resting right above her butt.
"How long have you felt this way?" She asks softly seductively nipping at his neck and running a hand over his shirt to caress his stomach, he physically aches for her.
"I wanted you the moment I saw you. But I didn't feel this until you convinced grandma to get her implants. That was when it became more for me."
She looks surprised and he is too, that they're speaking so candidly about feelings they've always denied.
"What about you?"
She stops licking at his neck to look him in the eyes. He's nervous to hear her reply.
"I.... don't know."
He tries to hide his disappointment. Maybe she was starting to retreat back into her shell. Maybe he shouldn't have been so honest.
He's about to untangle them when she continues, "It wasn't at first sight but one day I found myself looking for you. Seeing you become the best part of my day, I started to count on you to be there for me. To expect it. Just like this, I've been scared to lean on anyone until I met you."
Now that's a confession.
Impulsively he stands with her still on his lap, forcing her to to latch onto him so she doesn't tumble to the floor. Not that this would ever happen because he would never let her fall.
"I could have fell!" She cries, clinging to his shoulders and wrapping her legs around his waist. Her half naked bra clad body so close to him is causing another biological crisis in his pants.
Walking to the large bed in the middle of the room he falls backwards, enjoying the view of her on top of him a little too much.
It's all probably too soon and they should probably slow down, but his body is strumming and he wants nothing more than to break her apart.
"I'm all sweaty. I should take a shower."
Instantly an image of her wet and naked under the downpour of a shower flashes in his mind and he has to twist away from her.
"Pervert." She accuses but he can hear how satisfied she is with his reaction. Damn tease.
"Do you want to join me?" She teases some more, having fun now that she knows her power over him.
He looks at her helplessly.
"Are you having fun? Remember what I told you before? I'm still a guy. You're sitting here in your bra taunting me, do you think I'm that much of a good guy? Do you think I don't want to throw you down, rip your clothes off and eat you alive? I'm so hard right now just seeing you naked would be enough to push me over the edge. So don't make propositions you can't follow through on."
She looks dizzy from his words, eyes hooded and glossy. He watches her gulp and then stagger off to the bathroom, without a word to him. It's probably for the best, everything is too charged right now.
A shower for her and many glasses of water for him later, she's back and it's almost time for dinner.
"I think they said dinner starts at 6. Should we head down?"
She glances at him, while opening her bag and pulling out skin creams and some fuzzy socks.
"Would you be opposed to ordering room service and staying here?"
It's the best offer he's heard all day, only second to her asking if he wanted to join her in the shower.
"What about your colleagues?" He asks to make certain that she's really okay with this.
"What about them?" She replies with a shrug and he grins picking up the room service menu.
They order too much food and not enough alcohol but neither of them want to forget this night. She tells him stories about her time in dental school and he's happy to get to know her better, chuckling at the funny stories and commiserating at the sad ones.
Before he knows it night has fallen.
And he realizes that they'll be sharing a bed. Unless she wants him to sleep on the couch.
She's wearing a big shirt and loose shorts and he still can't believe he gets to see her like this.
"Are you coming to bed?" She's already getting under the sheet and that answers his question, this is really happening. He starts to follow her lead, getting under the sheets but keeping a respectable distance between them.
"I'm cold." She announces suddenly and he starts to look for a thermostat in the room or an extra blanket, before realizing that she's looking at him over her shoulder, he stares back confused before she lifts an eyebrow and oh, he gets it. Carefully moving closer he feels her warmth surround him as they meet, forth to back.
"Took you long enough." She grumbles, pulling his arm over here body and settling back into him moving until she's comfortable.
She's so close and warm and her smell is all around him and he feels his restraint dissolving and when she presses back into him, her hip rubbing against his crotch he bites down on his bottom lip.
It's too much for him to resist and without warning or preamble, he's turning her to face him and swallowing her moan of surprise eagerly. He grabs her head firmly holding her in place and slips his tongue into her open mouth, her unique taste exploding on his taste buds. He's hungry for more. So he starts to tug down her shorts, heart beat thundering in his groin. She kicks the shorts away, and he groans at the sight of her panties she was trying to kill him, he was certain.
"You're the devil." He chokes out staring at red lace, he'll never be able to see the color again without getting a raging hard on.
"You haven't seen anything yet. Honey." The word drips from her tongue just like the real thing.
Forgetting all reason and logics he lunges at her, devouring her mouth and sticking his hand in her panties. She's so warm and fuck, wet drenching his fingers.
Simultaneously he thrusts his tongue into her mouth and his fingers in her wet folds, groaning as she melts like butter under his touch. There's no resistance, as he plunges two fingers inside her experimentally before picking up his place when she clutches onto him and grinds back on his fingers, begging the whole time.
"More, more, please!"
As if he could ever deny her anything, with one hand he grabs her ass and the other he thrusts into her opening over and over until her voice gets breathy and she starts to stutter, squirming wildly in his arms and he knows exactly what's coming: the beautiful end. So without warning he pulls back the sheet and slithers down her body, throwing her legs around his head and pushing his tongue in to the brim, hungrily drinking at her until she shakes and combusts in his arms. Sweet on his tongue, he swallows it all greedily.
He strokes her as she recovers from her high, climbing back up her body. So much for taking things slow, but he can't even think about regretting it when he sees the blissed out look on her face. He wants to imprint it in his mind. Nobody else will ever get to see this face but him.
"It's your turn." She says sounding loopy like she's drunk and he laughs as she reaches for the tent in his pants but misses his bulge and instead falls into him.
"You're tired. Go to sleep. That was enough for me, seeing you like that fulfilled every fantasy I've had. "
He truly means it. He's a giver. And it's not like he can't tug one out later in the bathroom with her face and moans playing on repeat in his brain.
She starts to argue, but her phone vibrating on the nightstand distracts her. Reaching over she picks it up before chuckling and flopping back into the bed.
"What?" He asks curious, jealous of whoever is making her smile like that.
Ignorant to his inner thoughts, she thrusts her phone into his face. The room is so dark it takes a moment for his eyes to adjust to the bright lighting of the phone, but once he can see he reads the message on her phone and starts to laugh too.
"Dusik is missing! Nobody has seen him all day!! We started a search party."

Kdrama women I love (Part 2)
Part 1 (here)
Sorry, not sorry, I just can’t stop thinking about them!
Cha Soo-hyun from Signal: Imagine having a powerhouse like Kim Hye-soo on your cast and then saddling her with an awkward/tragic workplace romance in lieu of idk actual character development that happens ON SCREEN as opposed to off it. I mean, Signal is excellently made, but there’s no denying that Cha Soo-hyun got a raw-ish deal. I would have loved to see her grow into the badass cop she is when we meet her first, but most of her time onscreen is spent reacting to events set in motion by The Men, and just, like, why. In my head, the perfect fic for Cha Soo-hyun would cover the years after Lee Jae-han’s disappearance and before Park Hae-young’s entry; so much of her struggle in the early years was to be taken seriously as a cop, and I want to see her doing that without Lee Jae-han’s help. I would also NOT be opposed to a post canon OT3; it could be incredibly fun to write the tangled dynamics of that, especially now that Cha Soo-hyun isn’t the wide eyed rookie that Lee Jae-han knew, and Park Hae-young’s YEARNING to belong would neatly fold into what his sunbaes could offer.
Ahn Young-yi from Misaeng: My god, this woman suffered in Misaeng. I just want the fic in which she lets herself be angry. I fully understand her choices in Misaeng- the tightrope that she’s walking in the hopes of survival- but I won’t deny that I felt robbed of the satisfaction of seeing her hurl a rock or three at the heads of her misogynist colleagues and boss. There’s probably a fic out there about how Young-yi starts to build her networks with the other women at One International, and how she climbs the ladder to power. I want this to be a story about women making space for the ones after them, and pulling them up with them. It’s the story she deserves, along with all the other women in that series, whose stories were sidelined to make space for The Men.
Yoon Hee-soo from Into The Ring: That woman is going to be President in ten years and nobody will convince me otherwise. Love her pragmatism, her wicked, trollish sense of humour, her ambition and the fact that she cares deeply but isn’t performative about it. She’s the one I would trust to Get Things Done, just as I would trust Goo Se-ra to rock the comfortable status-quo. Together (and with the intrepid Gong-myung) they will CHANGE THE WORLD. Where’s the fic, world, where??? ( side-eyes self) ps. I hear there’s a season 2 in the works and if it doesn’t give me some version of this fic, I shall be very sad.
Jang Ro-sa from Hospital Playlist : WHERE is the 70 episode show about the Life of Jang Ro-sa? I loved her from the first episode where she’s so matter-of-fact about her marriage of convenience; how on earth did she manage to raise a bunch of kids who ALL fell in love with God first and forever? Why didn’t she become a pianist? What are she and Jeong-su doing on that pilgrimage/ road trip ? I just want to know ALL of it. Someone write it * puppy face *
Kim Sang-sook from Into the Ring- Jang Hye-jin brings so much sparkling charm to her role as Se-ra’s mom, I just fell crazily in love with her. I just love how much she’s just herself and unfazed by other people’s opinions of her; i love that she fucks up on the regular but with STYLE. I think that’s a lovely trait that she’s passed on to her daughter- one that will carry her through her chosen life of MAKING THE WORLD BETTER. Anyways, where’s the fic where Sang-sook gets involved in some pyramid marketing scheme and Gong-myung has to bail her out of it and they both have to keep it secret from Se-ra and her dad? I demand this be put in my eyeballs AT ONCE.
Do Hae-won from Beyond Evil: My god, a villain’s villain. Gil Hae-yeon puts the fear of the devil into you every time she slithers onto the screen with her weaponized cloying, subservient femininity. She seems so brittle, but beneath it is the hard rock of years of bitterness. The show doesn’t bother to do more than hint at the reasons why- because of course, female villains are never afforded the interiority of their male counterparts, or even chance for understanding- but I think Gil Hae-yeon manages to convey both her resentment at this world ruled by men and their rules. and her contempt for them as a class in every scene. I wonder how things would have been different- if they would have been- if she’d had a daughter, instead of a son. Anyways, an absolutely riveting performance, and I think that’s the only reason I am sort of tempted to contemplate a post canon fic for her. How does she survive jail? What does she do after? Who’s going to write it for me? (SIGH.)
Jung Geum-ja from Hyena- I don’t think a lot needs to be said about why Jung Geum-ja is literally one of the best female characters ever to be written in a kdrama. Kim Hye-soo is in her element in her role as this half-gangster/ half- vengeful angel, 100% unforgettable woman. Love to see sexpot Ju Ji-hoon fold like a pack of cards in the face of that unbearably sexy combination of wit, grit and panache; but ALSO love watching every woman in a radius of 5 kms faint from lust and longing to be her and be with her at the same time. Luckily for me, I don’t have to write any of the fic, everyone who’s watched the show just head over to Gin’s AO3 page and treat yourself.
#kdrama#[fiona apple voice] ladies ladies ladies ladies#that's gonna be the tag#sorry i have no imagination

Ahn Hye Jin is a goddess. Everyone who has seen her either loves her, or hate her because they want to be her. With beauty, fame and charisma that goes off the charts, who could blame when you were to be drawn in like a moth to the light? Of course given the opportunity, you chose to chase after her disregarding the fact there were probably many others like you. It was a chance given, and it would be foolish not to grab at it. Be it getting your manager to buy her favorite drinks so you can drop it off for her whenever she was at the company practicing, leaving little notes with a container of food for her to heat up when she stays back for more practicing on her own or even occasionally popping by the studio when you had some free time off your schedules, you did you best to let your presence be known to her. Management didn't know of your crush, brushing it off as admiration for your senior whose group literally built up the company, and you'd prefer for it to stay that way lest you get kicked out barely a year into debuting. Hyejin however, knew of your intentions. You've made it clear to her when you gathered up the courage to manage to stammer out a "I like you." Before you could hear whoops from Wheein and feel the stares coming from the other two older members directed at you.
Over time, you've managed to also worm your way into the rest's hearts as they realized how pure your intentions were, and how far you'd go to try take care of their strong-headed maknae. Seeing as to how Hyejin has never properly rejected you, they slowly started putting in words for you whenever they spot your gifts for her, planting what they'd hope to be the seeds that will help make their youngest happier. It started from "Look at how thoughtful she is!" To “Hey look, guess who dropped by again today~?” Each time, she would only smile and wave away at her member’s teasing as she accept her gifts with a smile.
The small interactions with Hyejin and the rest of her members were great as you slowly got to know them more, just as friends. Sharing jokes and they would sometimes even invite you up for a meal together. It wasn’t until a few weeks later of skirting around your very obvious infatuation with Hyejin did you actually put up your mind to do something. Nodding to yourself, you gathered up the courage and knocked on the door. Cheers were heard from inside and as routine, Hyejin came to the door to open it for you. Passing over her drink with a smile, she stood waiting accepted it with a small chuckle and thanks. Right before she turned away, you called out to her. Looking back at you questioningly, you took a few deep breath to try settle your pounding heart. “One date. Just give me one date. I’ll show you that I’m serious.” You could see her eyes widen in surprise and slowly cover her mouth with her hand. You shift nervously, not daring to break the eye contact. She was the one who looked away first and her gaze fell to the ground, seemingly deep in thought. Noticing the longer than usual interaction, the rest of the members curiously peeked over one another to observe the situation. Putting the pieces together, Wheein shared glances with the older members and back to her best friend and voiced out her thoughts. “Why don’t you give it a shot?” Slowly looking over to her, Hyejin studied her expression, followed by the encouraging looks Moonbyul and Yongsun was giving before going back to her own thoughts for a bit longer. All the while you stood, head slowly lowering, feeling your throat and chest slowly coiling and tightening on themselves while you prepare yourself for the rejection incoming. “So what do you have in mind?” Snapping your head up, you find her staring right at you. You could almost hear your own heartbeat as you let out a breath you didn’t even notice you were holding. Glancing past her, you see the enthusiastic nodding and thumbs up given to you by the rest of her members and you pulled out your phone. “I’ll text you the details?”
As far as records go, the company only saw this meet up as a nice meal between a member of their top girl group and their solo artist. You’ve managed to book a small table at a café that you were introduced by a few friends. It was a cozy little place near an alleyway, just a little out of the way of where the crowd would usually go. Settling down in the corner, you were both handed a small menu. Skimming over, you decided to place an order of a cup of coffee and a macaron for a sweet treat. Hyejin took a little longer to look through the menu but also ended up with just a cup of coffee. There was an awkward tension in the air as you constantly try to find topics to speak about to engage the woman sitting opposite of you when all you could get in reply was a few words in reply. With a smile, you could only nod and let the silence blanket the both of you as your drinks and snack came. Every time you looked up from sipping your drink, you could see her silently in her own thoughts and decided not to bother her lest she finds you annoying. It was when you were on the last few sips of your drinks did Hyejin finally speak up.
“I don’t want to be harsh but I don’t think we’d go well together.”
The words echoed in your head as they processed into what she was trying to say. You swallowed down the harsh reality that hit you right in your chest and nodded with a small understanding smile. “Thank you for at least giving me a chance, and of course, being honest with me.” Nodding back, Hyejin went back to sipping her drink as the silence once again settled between the both of you, this time for you to quietly nurse your heart. Setting down the empty cups, the both of your stood as you pulled out your phone and texted your manager to pick the both of you up. While waiting outside the café, Hyejin couldn’t bring herself to look at you. A part of her felt that she had led you on, despite it just being that she couldn’t understand of her own feelings. To make everything simpler for everyone, the best choice would be to reject and ignore it. A hand coming towards her in the corner of her eye surprised her, and with that she finally look at you again. “Friends?” Raising your eyebrow, you silently prayed that whatever happened wouldn’t ruin whatever relationship you had between her and her members. “Friends.” Raising her hand to shake yours, a smile bloomed across her face in relief that you held no anger towards her.
You understood that it will definitely take time to get over the fact that you had a crush on Hyejin, so you chose not to avoid it. Instead, you faced the rejection straight on, and went up to Mamamoo’s studio even more often to interact more with everyone whenever you had the time. Every now and again, you’d also have a member or two pop up in your studio to join in the chaos, much so adding up to your manager’s headache of trying to keep your appearance as an idol intact, knowing well fully that the random moments you shared with the group would most likely air out as update episodes in your mini vlog series. It took a while to realize that by taking a step back from pursuing Hyejin, that you got so much more closer to her. The awkwardness melted away and what was left was a healthy friendship.
It also took a while for Hyejin to realized how much more she had been looking to spend time with you. Or that the increasing number of comments in your vlog series were commenting on how much and fondly she looked at you. It became almost a daily thing to exchange greetings from dawn and annoy one another through text till dusk fell. It got to the point where whenever her phone’s notification rang, does she perk up and rush to it and if it was not a reply from you, she would falter and according to Wheein, “Look like a kicked puppy.” If you had a schedule when she was free, she sometimes tag along with an excuse to keep you company but if you could see her behind all the staff, you’d notice her intense gaze as she studies you. The way you moved, the way you laughed, and even to the way your chest rise and fall as you breathed. Part of her knew what was happening, but she refused to act upon it. It wasn’t fair that you were the one who risked your career to chase her only for her to reject you, and now suddenly changing her mind. You on the other hand didn’t seem to notice all the extra attention you were getting from her and it annoyed Hyejin to a certain extend. She wanted the smiles you gave to everyone directed to only her. She wanted the jokes you shared and the laughter you gave to just be shared between you two.
It drove her crazy, the more she explored her feelings for you. It made her feel things that scared her. Scenarios would appear in her head as she watches you interact with others. Your words would race through her mind as she goes about her day. Images and memories of your gifts and notes pulled on her heartstrings. Maybe. Hyejin silently thinks to herself. Just maybe, I might be crazy. Chuckling to herself as she stopped in front of a set of doors, she sighed. That’s still better than letting someone else hold you, right? Looking up at the sign that stated the opening hours, she pulled out her phone to do a quick check of the time and pushed open to step through the set of doors.
The bass vibrated throughout the entire room as music boomed from the speakers in the practice room. Your eyes were trained upon your form as you connected each movement of your body to flow with the beat of the music. Seeing how focused you were on perfecting the dance routine, your manager could only sigh in failed attempt of trying to make you promise to not overwork yourself when your comeback was right around the corner before leaving for the night. At some point through the evening, you had shed your hoodie, leaving you in a cooling sports bra and sweat pants. Despite the lesser layers, you were drenched in sweat, and your hair had fallen from their ponytail, leaving them sticking uncomfortably to your face and body. Your body cried out in exhaustion as you slowed to a halt along with the music and panted to catch your breath. Slowly pushing yourself upright again, you groaned, body resisting the idea of one last run through of the routine. Right as you were about to hit the play button on your phone again, the soundproofed door of your studio swung open.
Your squeak echoed the room and your eyes darted up and widened in surprise to meet hers through the mirror’s reflection. It took a second for your body and brain to relax when you realized that the intruder meant no harm when you noticed both her hands were occupied. Slowly turning and walking over to the back of the studio where she had moved from the door, you look at Hyejin questioningly before your gaze dropped to the contents in her hands. Instead of putting it down onto the table, she waited for you to walk over to her to pass you the warm cup of coffee and a paper bag. Carefully hold the cup in one hand, you opened the bag to see a lone macaron sitting inside. A wide smile bloomed on your face when your body understood that the sweet treat was a form of energy for you to function and you eagerly pushed it up the bag to take the first bite. You then remembered the very person that delivered it to you and with your mouth full, you could only smile even wider to her as you closed your eyes in bliss as the sugary snack awoke your senses again.
“One date.”
Your eyes snap open as your jaw stopped its movement.
“One date. Just give me one date. I’ll show you I’m worth your time.”
Your smile slowly dropped as you processed what you just heard. Looking back down at the bag and the cup of drink, you recognized the name imprinted on its sides. It was from the very café you two went to on your first and last date. Forcing yourself to look busy by continuing to slowly chewing the one bite in your mouth, you subtly turned your head towards the mirror to look at the woman, not daring to risk eye contact by looking directly at her. Even from the mirror, you could see her intense gaze, as she fidgeted her hands behind her, anxiously waiting for your answer.
“So? What do you say?”
Swallowing the now mushy mess in your mouth, you slowly looked right back at her. Lifting the drink to your lips and taking a small sip, you looked for traces of this encounter merely being a bad joke of the rejection you faced at her hand a few months ago. When you could find none, you slowly lowered the drink and sighed. Even at such mundane actions, you could see her tense up in anticipation.
You chuckle suddenly, breaking the silence and causing Hyejin to flinch. That in return made you chuckle even harder when her look of confusion and surprise slowly melt away as your laughter went on. Finally taking a breath to stop, you smiled and answered her.
“I was hoping it will be more than just one.”

Just a Mine appreciation post.
I loved the way the show didn't stick to stereotypes and have toxic relationships between the female leads. Seo-Hyun and Hee-Soo's womance is an absolute joy to watch and a reminder of how rare it is to see a real and credible friendship between women on screen. Also, props to writer Lee Na-Jung for showing us there are many kinds of friendship between women. For instance, what the ladies who make up the Bible study group share isn't as intense as what Seo-Hyun and Hee-Soo have, but it's still friendship that provides a certain kind of safe space to the women.
It would have been so easy to set up an antagonistic relationship between Hee-Soo and Hye-Jin. No one could have faulted Lee if she had chosen that route. Instead, she makes Hye-Jin a truly complex, flawed character who truly earns her redemption. How fantastic is the family of choice that the two women establish at the end!
Another great choice by Lee is making the two brothers — Ji-Yong and Jin-Ho — contrasting examples of masculinity. While Ji-Yong turns out to be toxic masculinity at its worst, Jin-Ho starts off seeming like a complete loser but he grows up in the course of the show. One of his best moments is when Seo-Hyun tells him she's gay. His first reaction — when his jaw pretty much literally drops — is comically innocent. His acceptance of her, though, is immediate and it shows he is capable of empathy (a quality that's in very short supply in the Han family).
Particularly given the long tradition of queerbaiting in K-drama, it still blows my mind that Mine had a proper love story between two women. I will never get over the irony of Seo-Hyun feeling safe enough to come out with a Catholic nun, but never mind that detail. Mine does such a great job of showing the tragic romance with respect and tenderness. Plus, the show also makes the subtle point of how intense the stigma surrounding homosexuality is because the Han family and Seo-Hyun are at the peak of privilege. That privilege lets them disregard all sorts of social mores and etiquette (case in point, the behaviour of the mother in-law and the sister in-law), but even with all this socio-cultural and financial capital, Seo-Hyun can't actually come out to the world at large. She's still with her husband at the end of the show.
Honestly, I hadn't thought I'd love this show as much as I did. The whodunit was solid; the comical bits were excellent; the characters were so well written. Altogether, this show was such a refreshing version of the chaebol drama and a great look at how complicated privilege and patriarchy are. I'm not saying Mine is flawless — Ji-Yong's character really pushes the limits of credibility and the straight love story between the "young master" and the maid is so damn blah — but its strengths far outshine the wobbly bits.

Arcane - Part 11
Ø Meaning: Secret, Mysterious, Understood only by few. MAGIC
Ø Pairing: Panther Hybrid Min Yoongi x Reader
Ø Summary: Some secrets are kept for the good of people. Some secrets are kept for abuse or power. Yoongi had been a victim of abuse and power, and he wasn’t going to let anyone else use secrets for that purpose. So, when Y/N comes into his life with secrets, he doesn’t want to fall into that rabbit hole again. He doesn’t want to give all his trust to someone who will abuse their power over him. But maybe Y/N’s secrets are a good thing.
Ø Genre: Hybrid!au, fluff, angst, eventual smut
Ø Warnings: I know in the last part I warned that it was more intense this part but I somehow left that out and wrote it in a way that it isn’t bad, Of course dealing with this subject there is a small trigger warning... What the character did is not right, and no one should ever have to be put through something like this!! Stay safe out there!
Ø Word Count: 1625
Ø A/N: Hey guys… here is the next part of my Min Yoongi fic!! I am back with another part of Arcane!! It has been so long since I posted anything or written anything so I really hope you all like this part and understand that sometimes I just don’t have inspiration to keep writing!! So, I really hope you guys love and support this fic like you did with GOLDEN TIME!! If you want to be added to a tag list, message me or leave a comment or ask!! I would love and appreciate your feedback!! Thank you so much
PREV / NEXT
Y/N couldn’t concentrate.
She wouldn’t lie to anyone and say that she was interested in the paperwork in front of her. In actuality, she couldn’t tell anyone who asked what it was she was supposed to be concentrating on. Her mind was completely preoccupied with the events of her tragic and questionable weekend.
Monday mornings were always hard, coming off a good weekend. Try a Monday morning coming off a horrible weekend. It was currently 11:02 on Thursday after the horrible weekend and no amount of coffee, even the 8 cups Y/N had been through since 5am when she woke up, or distractions would take her mind off of her Hybrid at home.
Said hybrid had been hiding, completely avoiding the outside world, more importantly avoiding Y/N, for days now. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, all the way until today being Thursday and Yoongi still hadn’t come out of hiding.
Every morning Y/N would knock three times on Yoongi’s door, letting him know she was there. She’d leave him a tray of food outside his door before leaving for work, texting him routinely through the day at 11am, 1pm, 4pm just before she would return home to what was pretty much an empty house. It was always so cold, all the lights were always off, no heat, no Yoongi at the door to greet her home.
Every afternoon Y/N would hang her coat and bag, walk to the hall, and see that the tray off food she’d left in the morning had been completely untouched. It was concerning, Y/N didn’t know if Yoongi was eating or not, and from the looks of the cold, untouched food, it didn’t look like he was.
After taking the food back to the kitchen and throwing it out, Y/N would start to fix dinner for the both of them. Leaving a tray at Yoongi’s door before going back and sitting by herself at the table, hoping that maybe Yoongi would join her.
He never did.
And she could blame no one except herself.
Y/N was supposed to help him, protect him. She had promised that no harm would ever come to him. And yet, she was the reason that he completely hid from her, from the world.
She could see it as if it were happening in the moment. Pushing open the door, seeing Yoongi laying on the bed, arms up, eyes wide, begging for help. She could see Hye-Jin looking annoyed as Y/N stood in the door, straddling Yoongi’s waist.
Y/N would never forget the panic that flashed through Yoongi’s eyes, even as Y/N acted. Y/N didn’t waste any time in pulling Hye-Jin off of Yoongi, not saying anything as she threw the girl out of her house, slamming the door in her surprised face as she raced back to Yoongi’s room. She wanted to check on him, make sure he was okay, reach out to him.
But when she finally got back to his door, it was shut, closed off from the world.
Y/N was pulled out of her constant worrying by the ringing of her phone. Shaking her head, she looked at the caller ID, not recognizing the number.
“Hello?” Y/N spoke into her phone, thanking the fact that her office door was closed.
“Hello? Miss Y/N?” A familiar voice asked, though Y/N couldn’t place it.
“This is her? May I ask who this is?”
“Miss Y/N, it’s Jung Hoseok, from HOPE Sanctuary.” The voice cheerfully answered.
“Oh, J-Hope, right?” Y/N smiled widely at the memory of the man who helped her to adopt the hybrid currently hiding from her
“Yes. How are you? How’s Yoongi?”
The question was a dangerous one. How could Y/N explain to the man that had entrusted one of his friends to her, that she had completely and totally fucked up? She didn’t like the thought of lying to him, didn’t like the position she was already in, but how could she tell him what had happened? How could she tell him she was probably the worst thing that could happen to Yoongi?
“Y/N? Are you still there?” J-Hope asked.
“Oh yes, I’m still here.” Y/N forced a laughed. “Sorry just a lot on my mind with work. But I’m good, Yoongi is good.”
“Well that’s good to hear.”
Y/N could hear movement in the back of the phone call, J-hope wasn’t alone, and she could guess just how many were there. 5 hybrids missing their panther and a human who was so much better equip to this job then she was.
“Hyung, ask her…” Y/N heard a small, muffled voice.
“It would seem I have some impatient hybrids with me.” J-Hope’s cheerful voice came through with a laugh. “But they were wondering if that offer still stood? If they were able to come and visit their Yoongi Hyung?”
“Hey, I’m his Hyung!” Y/N heard a protest coming from behind J-Hope.
“Of course, you can.” Y/N heard herself saying without missing a beat. “I’m sure Yoongi would love a visit from you all.”
“Really?” Someone else spoke, seeming to have taken the phone off J-Hope. “We can come visit?”
“Of course, you can visit.” Y/N really just couldn’t stop herself, anything that will ease Yoongi would be welcomed. “I know Yoongi has been thinking about you guys. I was actually going to offer Yoongi if he would like a trip back to the city to see you all.”
“Oh perfect. It seems I have good timing.” J-Hope’s voice was a little distant from the phone, meaning the phone was on speaker now. “When would be the best time for us to come down?”
“You can come down any time you’re ready to.” Y/N moved around some paperwork, looking for her journal.
“We could fly in tomorrow afternoon?” J-Hope proposed, she could feel the nerves of them all.
“Perfect.” Y/N wrote a little note into her journal, noting they would be here. “I’ll clear out the other rooms for you all tonight. Will you be coming with them J-hope?”
“If it’s not too much trouble? I would like to be with them?”
“Of course.” Y/N hoped she could talk to Yoongi tonight. “I’ll make sure to have lots of food ready for you all. I know Yoongi will be happy.”
A cheer rang through the phone, letting Y/N know they were excited for the chance of a trip. She would just hope that Yoongi would be excited to see his brothers after nearly 2 months.
“We should let you get back to work now Y/N.” J-Hope seemed to have finally taken the phone back, placing it to his ear. “I’ll text you the details of a flight, so you know when to expect us.”
“Sounds good.” Y/N smiled, nodding. “I’ll see you all soon.”
“See you tomorrow, Y/N.”
Finally hanging up, Y/N let out a deep sigh, her head in her hands on the desk in front of her. She didn’t know what to do, she had a problem to solve at home with Yoongi and now his brothers were coming to see him. Finally sitting back up she pushed her hair out of her face, picking up her phone and ringing the familiar number, only for it to ring out.
Said hybrid sat in his room, staring at his phone as Y/N’s name lit up the screen in his pitch-black darkness. It’s not like the darkness actually affected him anyway, but still it was dark. Dark enough that he knew if Y/N was home and had walked through his door, like the many times he’s hoped she would in the past week, she’d have tripped.
Yoongi would never straight up admit it, but he seriously missed Y/N. He knew it was his own doing, hiding himself away from her after what someone else did. But he couldn’t help but feel betrayed that she had let someone like that into his territory.
She had to know. Yoongi couldn’t help but think that Y/N had to know that he wanted to do nothing but protect his territory, and that meant her as well. He just wanted to protect the woman who gave him a change, but she was the one bringing dangers into his territory.
He couldn’t exactly forget it, what that girl felt like pressed against him. Yoongi could never really forget the pure look of lust in her eyes as he tried to get away from her. She had stalk him as if he were the prey and she were the predator, she had used his past against him, and it had won.
He would truly never be able to forgive himself for falling, failing to stop himself from feeling sorry for himself. He already knew that hiding and curling in on himself was wrong, and yet here he was, lying in the dark, staring at a black screen, hoping, praying for Y/N to reach out to him.
They were truly words that would haunt him, words that were whispered into his ear. Words that he had buried deep within his mind and now…
“Your just a pet… this is what your made for.”
“She’ll never please you the way I will.”
“Come on, this is what we got you for.”
“She’ll never love you.”
Again, and again. It was like a broken record playing for his downfall.
Hye-Jin’s words weren’t the first to tell him that, they were a constant in the last few homes he had been in. He just never thought they’d be words he heard while here with Y/N.
Now he just stared at the screen as it lit up again with Y/N’s name. He couldn’t bring himself to answer it, couldn’t bring himself to hear the broken words leave her mouth as he tried to call for him.

Acting with Kim Seon Ho
I might come up with a full fic of the drama.
You started out as a idol trainee but never debuted but became an actress instead. Although you are not very young, korean age 29 and Seon Ho is 35. You didn’t star in many dramas and was not as popular as names like suzy and park shin hye. In this sense, you are alot like Kim Seon Ho before he hit it big with Start Up.
You did not grow up in korea and speak better in english than korean. You’re friends with the korean-american celeb community like BM, Jessi, Eric. Your best friend is Blackpink’s Rose because you guys met during trainee days as a music school and later reconnected at a private Tiffany&Co event.
You are under Starship ent which is a fairly big company with actors like Lee dongwook so your skills isn’t too far off and in general you land in scripts and channels that are not too bad.
You got an offer from the writer who wrote Crash Landing On You and upon reading script and much discussion with the company, you decided to take this up.
You learn that the production team is trying their best to get Kim Seon Ho to be the male lead and you felt honoured and at the same time pressured. You really wished to have him as your partner in this drama because you knew that he was talented, but you also wanted to keep your hopes low because you knew that he was booked left right centre and he has many scripts and projects flooding in.
The storyline of the drama was also one reason why you kept your hopes low.
The drama centers around the female (which is your role) whose husband requested for a divorce as he fell in love with a co-worker who is a headstrong career woman. The female lead tries to salvage her marriage by entering into the company that her husband and his mistress works in and struggles her way into the workforce after being a housewife for 10 years.
The truth is, you were deliberating very hard as to whether this role was suitable for you as it is quite a leap from the usual roles and it might change the image that you have in the public eyes. For the male lead, this change is an even bigger risk and now that Seon ho is getting more popular, you were pretty sure there’s 60% chance he would reject the offer so as to keep his image.
But the script was interesting as it portrayed third party and affairs in a different light and the characters were complex so this would take your acting skills to a new level. With that, you decided to take on the challenge despite the risk that you might not be offered dramas in future that were of younger romantic comedy genre since you will be remembered as an actress that played mum and divorcee.
To your surprise, Seon ho took on the role as well. And the reason you heard of is that he felt that the script is compelling and he wanted to challenge himself in a new role.
The other female actress who will play the role of the third party is Son Na eun of Apink and you thought that she was a good fit for the role too.
The day of drama reading, Seon ho was the last to arrive and he was so apologetic about it. He was polite and greeted everybody with his big dimple smile. It was his first time meeting you and Naeun so the 3 of you were quite awkward and unfamiliar.
When filming officially started, you were so busy preparing and translating your lines and practicing them that you felt very pressured. As the drama was produced by the team behind the hit success Crash Landing and also featuring the current hot actor Kim seon ho, it was also highly anticipated and everyone was looking forward to the drama to air.
The filming process was also tiring as the tone of the drama is quite serious and sad compared to a light-hearted love drama or comedy. But to your surprise the filming was quite enjoyable mainly because seon ho is very easy to work with and also very professional.
Even though he must have been very tired as the shoot is often in between his other projects like 2 Days 1 Night and his other pictorials and advertisement shoots, he rarely screws up his part and came prepared with his lines so there won’t many retakes. He is also very bubbly and cheerful, making the filming atmosphere livelier and friendlier.
The chemistry between you and him hit off better than expected as well. You enjoyed his sometimes awkward jokes, you could follow up with this ad-libs and both of you saw eye-to-eye when it comes to how the both of you should act certain scenes to bring out certain message or emotions.
You usually speak to your staff and manager in english which would leave the total korean boy seon ho in awe. And you always joke that the hardest part about this drama is that you have to pretend that you dont understand english as you are supposed to play the role of a clueless housewife who became an intern in a top company. And Naeun who doesn’t understand english has to play the role of your manager who is capable and good at presentations and reports in english.
When the drama air, the public had good response and the chemistry between you and seon ho became recognised just as how people were speculating that Hyun Bin and Son Ye jin are definitely dating.
The both of you were not at the dating stage yet because seon ho is so busy. And his personality is so friendly that he usually maintain a very amicable relationship with everybody so you established that the both of you are just very good colleagues that managed to become friends outside of work.
To your surprise, seon ho called you one day - “chae young ahhh” he repeated and emphasized “chae young” a few times which was not your real name but the name of your character in the drama so you kind of had the sense to reply “oh yeobo”, which absolutely pleased him. Turns out it was a call from seon ho while filming 2 days 1 night. He was on a mission and he had to prove that he wasn’t lying when he said on the show that the both of you had good chemistry so choosing you to call to help him in the mission is the best person. You had to make a guess of the option his group chose in order for them to pass and be given lunch. The way you answered the call has already made a great impression to the team and the 2d1n members were all impressed by the chemistry you had with seon ho. You also passed the game round and they were saying that you should drop by the show as a guest as the next week, they will have to bring a female guest who are also their good friend to help them in the episode.
Your company is rather particular about their artistes appearing on variety shows and it’s only after they screened the other female guests and realised that the rest are mostly comedians, that they allowed you to be on the show and the instruction was that you have to maintain your image.
It was easy as the members and everyone in the team treated you like a princess in comparison to the 2 female comedians so as to make the show funnier. And seon ho especially took care of you as well even outside of the filming.
He introduced you to the actor yeon jung hoon who was on the show and in between breaks you were able to consult him about some concerns that you have, especially since you are juggling 2 dramas.
Towards the halfway mark of the drama filming with seon ho, you were offered another drama, a love story drama with a younger actor this time Seo Kang Joon. As the new drama is a typical courtship and love story drama, you were afraid that the way you act might not be able to draw a difference that well that the audience will be able to see the shadow of the divorced wife character that you are playing in the other drama.
Jung hoon adviced that every role will have some kind of resemblance because it all came from you. It’s impossible to always present a totally original and fresh character without some resemblance here and there. But maybe if we see the resemblance as the actor’s style and essence, then you wouldnt feel so pressured to draw the distinction between all the roles that you act in.
This scene was aired on 2d1n and it helped the public to see your professionalism and seriousness that you have towards acting.
You also helped the team by giving a call to Blackpink’s Rose. Rose answered the call with “heyyy what’s up” which excited the members even more as they didn’t expect the both of you to use english as main form of communication.
You were also good friends with Park Yuna who got famous from her role in Sky Castle and she also played the role of Bo young who is your sister in the drama with seon ho. Yuna was also an idol trainee previously which is why the both of you clicked so fast.
The drama with Seo Kang Joon was a success too but of course both dramas did not do as well as Start-Up and Crash Landing but in your terms it was successful as people were talking about it and it was the more popular dramas among the rest that were airing as well.
The chemistry between you and seon ho stood out even more as nobody really talked about seo kang joon and you having chemistry in that way.
Very quickly, you were offered a movie role and the male lead they were offering it to kim seon ho again. This time, the storyline was less sad as it was about a man and woman who took a break from their current life and went to Jeju island as an escape, met and fell in love there. Seon ho’s character broke up with his long-term girlfriend while your character left her job after being there for 8 years. And the both of you met in Jeju.
Many people were speculating if the both of you were dating, especially since dispatch released pictures of the both of you coming out of a convenience store together on your off days. And when your agency checked with you, you said no because technically seon ho has never officially asked you out. But somehow you felt a little bitter when you heard from your management that seon ho’s side has also denied the dating rumours.
But netizens were quite supportive especially because the pictures taken were candid shots of how the both of you played with each other. Seon ho offered to hold your plastic bag but you lifted it like how you would lift dumbbells to joke with him that you didnt need his help and he was laughing so hard. Most comments that people have after seeing the pictures is that the both of you are so cute and pure.
But because the pictures were exposed by dispatch, it made you and seon ho a little uncomfortable in front of public setting. Like the both of you had to attend the movie premiere and it was awkward to be standing together in front of the reporters and cameras as the both of you know that everyone in the room has seen the pictures and may or may not ask about your relationship status. You are not sure if it’s even more uncomfortable if they dont talk about the white elephant in the room. But the both of you were obviously less chummy that day, keeping a distance and avoiding eye contact as much as possible. Which led to people speculating that the rumours has caused you guys to break up.
But you were still in contact with each other in private, just that you two did not meet in person since then. It was after few months that the both of you met again and it was at drama awards. It felt less uncomfortable and awkward maybe because the both of you were more overwhelmed by the excitement of seeing each other again after so long that you two didn’t really care whether people will ask if you guys are dating again.
Another heart fluttering moment was when the mc asked if any of you felt something for the other person that you were acting alongside with, and the both of you raised your hands shyly and blushed when you both realised that both of you raised your hands.
When seon ho went on stage to claim the best actor award, you stood up and clap proudly. And the mc jokingly asked since the both of you raised your hands just now, are you guys dating for real already? Seon ho laughed this time and said “don’t worry i will let you guys know if there’s good news” making everyone excited with his ambiguous answer and you could only laugh and facepalm in embarassment.
Eventually, dispatch released articles of insider saying that 2 actors who have acted together recently in drama and movie are dating and it pointed to you and seon ho again.
You talked to your agency, wondering if the best way is to deny it again because you know that couples that admit their relationship usually end up breaking up. And couples who stay together usually become less active or don’t have many projects up ahead. Plus seon ho’s career is at his peak now, he wouldn’t want to risk anything and he might not even have the time to keep this relationship going.
But your management got the news that seon ho’s side is okay to admit to it if you are okay with it and that shocked you. You didn’t expect him to want to keep this relationship more than his career. But to seon ho, he doesn’t see how his career will go down just because of this. And his fame was a sudden one, he was never famous before that and he was okay with it.
Your management was also quite relaxed about this. It seems that you are the only one thinking too much into this. Eventually you realised that it was all in your head.
The next day all the news outlet were reporting - “BREAKING: Actor Kim Seon Ho and Y/N is in a relationship”.

broken souls (pjm!hybrid au)
plot :Helping hybrids is your passion, as a local hybrid center calls you for help because of a abused and broken panther hybrid you pack your stuff and hurry to put him back together.
warnings: death, abuse | 4.9k words
a/n: hi there, it’s been a while huh? I’m finally back and better than ever. I released two stories lately which seemed like a fever dream so i won’t continue them but i hope you are ready to keep supporting my stuff :) I hope you like this story since i spent a lot of time and thoughts on it :)
masterlist
“Hello? Who is this?”
“Am i talking to Y/N?”
“Yes you are, who is this?”
“Oh, i’m sorry for not introducing myself, my name is Helen Wallis and I'm the Head of the Hybrid Rehabilitation Center Crystal Snow. I’m calling because we take care of a very delicate case at the moment, the issue is that we don’t know how to take further care of this poor soul and I heard that you are an amazing psychologist student who even helped the Seong-girl out of her cruel thoughts. If you could maybe take your time to take a look at this broken boy we would all be really thankful.”
To be honest, this girl didn’t take a lot of work. She was spoiled and upset because a boy in her school rejected her. The only reason this became a big thing was because the parents are influential people. But you would love to help someone who needed your help so you didn’t have another choice.
“I would gladly take a look at him, if you could send me his file.”
“Oh yes, of course. Thank you a lot Y/N, your help means a lot”
You’ve looked at the same three sheets of paper for the last two hours and you can’t believe what’s printed on it. The sentences make you angry and give you the feeling of having to throw up. He was raised on a local farm which turned out to be an underground fighting ring. He had to take drugs. He was raped and had to watch his mum getting killed, the only person on this planet who he loved. He has lost someone just like you, you may be able to connect with him faster than with Seong Hye-Jin.
The speed of your heart beating decreases as you pack the papers back into your bag. The bus rumbles and your stop arrives faster as you expected it to. The building looks nice, it has a big blue sign on top that says “Crystal Snow Rehabilitation Center”. It’s a short walk across the street to the entrance. As you walk towards the front desk a chubbier in white dressed older lady walks towards you. “You must be Y/N, it’s so nice to meet you. I called you earlier this week” you nod and shake her hand. “Yes, I tried to prepare myself as well as possible, but i’m not sure if he is going to welcome my help. I would say we just give it a try.”
The walk to Jimin’s room is long, there are a lot of doors, hallways and two elevators involved. Before Helen opens the door she turns around and clasps your hands in hers. “I need you to be careful. I couldn’t forgive myself if he hurt you. If something goes south please shout immediately, security is right outside this door. God may bless you” she whispers the last sentence as she turns the key and the door opens. You smile at Helen and take a step in. You never thought much about god or christianity, it’s all a hoax. Where was god when you needed him?
“Please leave the door open until I say otherwise” you whisper towards Helen and she nods. As you take a look inside the tiny room you are reminded of your bedroom at your parents house. It was tiny but cozy, Jimin might feel the same.
There he is, laying on his bed facing the window. “Hi there, Jimin. My name is Y/N, I would like to talk to you. Is that fine with you?” He doesn’t say anything nor does he move. He’s not ignoring you though, he’s listening very well. “Should i leave the door open?” you ask silently and he doesn’t answer, he turns around to look at you. A thing catches your attention immediately, the big scar across his left eye.
He nods and you nod back not saying anything. “Can i sit myself down over there or should I stay here?” you ask again to tear his attention from the open door, this is no time to do something dumb. “Stay” he whispers and you comply, he wants to keep you at a distance. The spot you’re standing at is a great place to oversee everything you do. “Alright, i’ll just sit down right here” you smile, he doesn’t reply.
As you sit there on the floor he grows more comfortable. The door is open and there is no one who pushes him to speak. You lowered yourself to the ground where he is able to look down on you. “So, Jimin. We both know why I’m here. To be quite honest, these people here don’t really care about you. It sounds harsh but that’s the truth. The only thing they are interested in is rehabilitating you and getting you out of here. They want you to move on and live normally but let’s be real for a second, that’s impossible.” His head snaps upwards to look at you.
“Everyone tells you how great life is and how badly you need to move on. The problem is that after all life ever gave you, it’s hard for you to understand that optimism. Life is shit, isn’t it?” you chuckle and he nods. “I didn’t expect you to say that” his raspy voice fills the room.
You chuckle “What? That life’s shit? Well, it’s the truth.” he nods and suddenly his ears move from being stuck flat on his head to standing upwards, ready to listen to you. “You know, Jimin. I understand you. Life hasn’t been kind to me either. I might’ve not lived through something as terrific as you but it comes close. Do you want to hear it?” he nods but still keeps his head low. You know that sharing hurtful experiences can help you connect to each other. You knew almost everything about him. You know what those horrible people did to him and how he became who he is now but he knows nothing about you. He doesn’t know why you are willing to sit on his floor or why the hell the door was kept open
“I had to kill my father” That catches his attention. His eyebrows furrow as he stares at you.
“Two men broke into our house one night when I was thirteen. I didn’t know what was happening, I mean it was around three am and i was sleeping. My brother was dead when I arrived in the living room, they had almost decapitated him. My parents were restrained and sat up on our couch.”
I have to breathe for a moment before I can continue. Right in that moment he locked his gaze with me for the first time. We share a quick glance.
“My mum was raped before they slit her throat and I couldn't do anything.I had to stab my dad 28 times. The only thing I remember was them telling me that everything’s my fault. I don’t know what I did nor do I know why my parents had to pay for it. But I moved on. I didn’t forget, not that I ever could forget this massacre but, I try to survive. Nothing can ever bring them back and I know that. I will never see them again and it hurts everytime i close my eyes because I see their lives leaving their bodies when I do but I try to move on. I try to live ”
I wipe my tears and look at the floor as all the pictures come back. The blood, the bones being cracked and the lives being taken-”I’m sorry you had to go through that” he whispers and a small sniff leaves your body. “Thank you, Jimin.” you whisper back and for a moment there’s just silence. It’s comforting and scary at the same time. It’s almost as if he accepts you now, as if he knows what you feel.
“Do i have to tell you?” you shake your head with a small smile. You wouldn’t mind but every time you have to talk about it you literally relive what happened. You don’t want him to feel what you do now “No, you don’t have to if you don’t want to” he nods and sighs, a big weight visually leaving his shoulders. “You can sit on the chair, the floor must be cold” you almost laugh. “I’ll gladly. Thank you, Jimin.” You sit down in front of him and he moves back slightly.
“Jimin” you whisper and his head snaps towards you “Yes?” he whispers back. His eyes softly gaze at yours “I need you to know that you’re not alone. What you had to go through is in no way forgettable and I know that you regret many things but you’re not alone. ” he just stares at you until his eyebrows furrow and his chest starts to move faster and faster. You triggered something, something bad.
“You’re lying” he whispers and his nostrils flare and his eyes stare at the floor. “You’re lying like everyone else.” He almost growls at you as you try to deny what he said. “I’m not, Jimin, listen to me!” you plead and you notice the shift. In front of you is no longer the quiet and understanding person he was two minutes ago . He shifted to what those people made him, a broken, hurt and traumatized boy who’s life is a living hell.
Now that they got him out of there he’s held captive in his mind. The horror he had to experience every day is now tormenting him inside his own head and no one seems to understand that. His eyes grow dark and his body builds itself up and he flashes his teeth in a threatening way. He closes himself off. He’s gone, the soft understanding boy you were just talking to was somewhere crying in a corner of his mind scared of getting attached and being thrown away like garbage.
In a matter of seconds his hands find their way around your throat. He tightens his grip and you find it hard to breathe. Your pleads come out strangled as he lets out a low grunt. This situation reminds you of the night you killed your father. The men strangled you as well while you watched your mum being raped, the only difference here is that Jimin isn’t doing it out of pleasure, he’s terrified to the point where he’s alright with taking another person's life.
The two security men find their way into the room as your legs give in and you two fall to the floor, Jimin didn’t let go though. Your last attempt of staying alive needs to work so you clasp his face in between your hands. You stroke his cheek and give him a small smile. “It’s alright” His eyebrow twitches slightly and in a matter of seconds his grip around your throat loosens and your vision finds its way back to you. You cough violently after you push him behind yourself.
“Miss, please move. We need to move this farrell animal, he’s a threat” you shake your head as you move closer to Jimin “He’s not- cough -that’s why I-cough-I’m here. Pl-cough-Please move outside, thank you-cough.” They share a worried look but do as told and move to their spots outside. Your head hangs low as you try to steady your breathing.
Behind you, you can hear silent but repetitive sorry’s.
You turn around slightly, just to look at him. He now understood what he had done. You can’t blame him for what he did, he was terrified as you somehow triggered something in his brain with your reassurance. “Jimin” you breathe out and his rant of sorry’s stop. “Jimin, this isn’t your fault, okay? I’m not mad at you” You turn towards him and take his hand into yours.
“Do you hear me? I’m not mad at you” he doesn’t look at you as you talk to him. The atmosphere in his room is cold and uncomfortable. His demeanor changed, he feels sorry and you know that. He almost killed you and you’re not upset. It’s something that’s hard to understand, why would someone you hurt still like you? Simple, they are either unconditionally in love with you or know how you feel. They understand the things you went through, the pain you feel, they relate.
“How?” He whispers as his emotions get ahead of him. “I almost killed you, look at your throat” he sniffs and you can’t help but touch it. It’s sore and probably bright red but you don’t really care. “It’s fine” you answer him and he shakes his head “How can that be fine? You were nothing but nice to me and I struck you to the floor to strangle you. If that is fine to you, you’re dumb”
You nod your head “Maybe I am”. You stroke the hair out of your face and get up. “I’ll be leaving now-“It was nice meeting you Y/N, I’m sorry that I hurt you and I understand that you won’t come ba-“Oh, I’m coming back” his head snapped up to look at you. “What?” You chuckled slightly “You can’t get rid of me that easily, we are friends now, Jimin.” He just gives you a star struck expression as you’re almost outside of his room. “I’ll bring you some cake next time”
-
About a week later you again stand in front of the center. You thought a lot about how you could help Jimin and to be honest, you have no idea. The only thing that somehow connects you two is the trauma. There’s nothing that really connects you, you lived a great life until that night, you always had and always will have the privilege of being a human and not a hybrid. Jimin was born on a farm like an animal, raised like one and treated like one.
In your hands you hold the cake you promised him the last time. You open the door just to be greeted with Helen. She smiles at you and welcomes you with a warm handshake “Y/N, how nice to see. Jimin has been asking for you everyday. He told me what he has done and how you treated him. I’m glad that you didn’t run away, he really needs your help” you nod and smile at her “We had a great start actually, I’m positive that I’m able to help him.” she gives you a comforting smile before she answers you “He’s outside, by the pond” you nod and take your leave to the garden.
The garden is blooming beautifully, a lot of flowers and bushes decorate the garden in a welcoming and soft way. Other hybrids roam around the garden as well. Some play together, some stay alone just like Jimin. He’s sitting on a bench in front of the pond while he stares at the water. You clear your throat as you stand right behind him and he’s fast to turn around.
His face shifts to a soft smile as he sees you. “Y/N!” he exclaims happily. He puts his legs down and makes space for you. You thankfully take the spot next to him. The air is thick between you two and you can pinpoint exactly why. He still feels sorry for what he did and you don’t really know how to approach this matter.
“I brought you the cake I promised” you throw into the silence. He doesn’t look, he doesn’t move at all. “I thought you wouldn’t come again” he says sadly. Your head snaps towards his and your eyes lock. “Why would you think that? I told you i would come back” you give back. He shakes his head and finally glances at the cake “I thought you might’ve changed your mind.” you sigh and hit his shoulder lightly. “I would never break my promise, now try the cake” you give him a fork and let him taste it.
“I didn’t bake it though, I’m terrible in the kitchen” you chuckle and he smiles “That’s fine, it’s delicious” he silently eats the cake and thanks you another two times. “How’s your throat?” he asks quietly. You unconsciously touch your throat. “It’s fine, it’s a little bit red” he nods and shoves another fork of cake into his mouth. Just then you notice a red mark on his right hand. They didn’t hit him, did they?
“Jimin, you need to be completely honest with me right now” his eyes go wide as your face grows angry. “Did they hurt you for what you did to me?” he almost chokes on his cake as you ask him that. “Did they hit you?” you ask again and he hides his hand before he tries to explain himself. “It’s not like i didn’t deserve it.” he stammers. “They are not allowed to do that, Jimin. You should’ve told me right away, I will make sure something like that never happens ever again.” he shakes his head and takes your hand into his. “It’s alright, don’t worry about it.” You give him an angry look “It is not alright, no one should treat you like that” he smiles slightly and strokes the back of your hand.
“I’m fine” and for a moment you believe him. You forget the red mark on his hand and the scar across his eye. You forget what happened to you and what happened to him. You forget the handprints around your throat. The trees and flowers disappear as well as the pond which seems to drain into oblivion. Nothing else other than the beautiful boy in front of you seems to exist. The way his dark hair almost hides his beautiful eyes which are trying to reassure you. The way his bruised hand gently strokes yours and the way this feeling makes you want to cry. It makes your walls crumble.
“Y/N?” his voice tugs you out of your thoughts. His hand wipes a tear from your face “Why are you crying?” he asks quietly. You can’t talk, it’s like someone took your ability to speak.
“It’s alright, I sometimes cry as well.” He lets go of your hand and suddenly everything comes back. Everything is there again and it’s hard to comprehend. Why did it feel nice?
“I did horrible things, you know. You shouldn’t look at me like that” your eyebrows furrow. “Like what?” he looks up at the sky “Like you love me, my mum used to look at me like that” he gives back and you can’t move. “It’s a look that says that you would give me the universe and more if you could. It’s a look which says that you would love everything about me but you won’t, you can’t. I did things that not a single living creature should do. If you knew what i did, you wouldn’t speak to me ever again. You would look at me the same way as everyone else ever did! “ he almost shouted.
You are taken aback, what is he talking about. “Well, what did you do?” he whips around and stares at you in disbelief. “Did you just completely ignore what i said?” you shake your head and smile at him “Do you think I’m like everyone else? I stabbed my dad almost thirty times, how bad can it be?” his face grows angry and he pushes the cake to the side. “One time I was in the ring I had to kill my opponent. The bloodier it was the better, so I ripped his windpipe from his throat. Another time I broke someone's neck just to get fed. Do you even know what it feels to get praised for taking someone's life?”
Without thinking you get closer, your noses almost touched as you did. “Yes, I do know what it feels like to get praised for taking someone’s life. They praised me the whole night for killing my father and later made me bury his corpse while my raped mother had to watch all of it. After i complied with them they slit her throat and left me laying in my mother’s blood while i wanted to die. The last thing they said before leaving me was “That’s what good girls do”, so don’t tell me i don’t know what it feels like. I know how people look at someone who had to survive something like this, I know it damn well.”
For a few seconds you two just stare at each other with wide and teary eyes. The mood is tense. The only thing you can hear is Jimin’s heavy breathing and you trying to not breathe at all. A tear leaves his eye and all of a sudden his lips find their way onto yours. You can’t grasp what is happening, your lips move by themselves. Your hand finds its way onto his cheek and he grabs the back of your neck caressingly. Never has a kiss felt like this, like the whole earth could explode and you wouldn’t care as long as you were kissing him.
But the thought of you two getting caught struck your mind and you stopped.
“W-why, did you stop?” his voice was a faint whisper. He knows why but he still feels the need to ask. “It felt good,” he continues. “We can’t be seen, Jimin” his face falls and he shakes his head “I don’t care” he whispers as you get up. “But i do, if they get a whiff of what just happened i won’t be allowed to meet you anymore.” you gather your stuff as he suddenly grabs your hand to stop you “I want you to adopt me” he almost shouts. You halt in your actions while your eyes widen.
“I realised that there is no person other than you who really cares about me. There’s no one who understands what I’ve been through. Not a single person can relate to what my life has been like. When I’m with you it feels like the whole universe disappears and there’s only you, you pull me out of those cruel thoughts, you take the pain away Y/N. Please adopt me” you can’t move. That’s not how you expected this whole thing to go. Of course you like him, there’s a connection and even feelings you can’t name but, it’s wrong. The way he sees it is wrong.
He sees a saviour who might rescue him from the life he used to live. To be honest, you’re ready to be that, his saviour, but is it the right thing to do, or to be? “Why aren’t you saying anything? Am i not good enough? Do you want me to change? I can-”No, Jimin. I-I don’t really know if that is how you really feel-”Of course that is what i really feel like, i need you Y/N” he shouts.
You step back with a small yelp escaping your mouth. His eyes soften “I’m sorry, i didn’t want to yell at you” All of sudden two men rush across the garden just to push you away from him “Stop! You’re hurting her” he shouts as you harshly fall on your butt. This is his mother’s death all over. He wasn’t able to get to her and now he’s being held back while they push you around. They grab Jimin and try to get him going but he’s too focused to get to you “Y/N!” he screams and you are fast to get up “Sir, please let go”you shout, much to your displeasure he just blows you off. They push him to the floor getting him ready to be sedated. Jimin doesn’t comply, the only thing he does is shout your name.
You throw yourself to the floor to look into his eyes. His eyes are wide and his face wet from crying “Please, Y/N don’t leave me. I can’t live without you, god please.” he pleads between broken cries. “Jimin, hey, listen to me. i’m right here! I won’t leave you” he cries and cries as he slowly drifts into a deep slumber “I need you” he whispers before he’s completely knocked out.
You once again look at the man in front of you. Is it wrong to love someone you just met? You are no psychiatrist, you have nothing to lose, do you? The only thing you desire more than helping him out of the dark space he’s in, is hold him in your arms. To wipe his tears and tell him that everything will be fine.
-
You thought a lot about him and his pleading about adoption. He would fit, no doubt. You two share one soul. The apartment you live in is hybrid friendly and there’s enough space. Yesterday you got a call from the center asking you to come in and meet Jimin again since his condition has worsened. He hasn’t eaten properly for almost a week, he doesn’t speak or move from his bed and refuses to look at anyone other than you.
You once again stand in front of the center unsure why you are here. Are you here to end something that never happened or continue something that has potential? You don’t know. But deep down you already know the answer
Helen waits for you at the front desk. She eagerly drags you along the long way to Jimin’s room. You remember the corridors and the two elevators as if you’ve walked those corridors a million times just to get to him. She doesn’t speak since she told you everything on the phone, she just escorts you to his room.
The door opens with the jingle of the keys and your heart breaks as you look inside. He’s curled up on his bed holding the fork you brought with you last week. He looks at it as if it’s a picture, telling him a story.
“Jimin” you whisper. His head moves slightly, needing to reassure what he was hearing. “Jimin, it’s me” you say once again.
He puts himself up on his feet and looks at you. His face seems thinner and his face is puffy from crying. You don’t know how someone could hurt him, how someone could force him to do things he didn’t want to or how someone could kill the one person who loved him. How someone could take everything he had, he ever was. You can’t understand it. You would give him everything. You would give your life for him if you could.
“Y/N” he breathes out. His eyes close and a small smile forms on his face. “I thought I’ll never see you again,” he says. Your body moves on its own as you walk towards him. You almost throw yourself into his arms. “I thought you left me” he chokes out.
“I’ll stay by your side as long as you need me, I told you that before. Don’t you ever think that I’ll leave you” you whispered into his chest. The comforting smell of his sweater grazes your nose. His tail wrapping around your legs in a comforting manner.
“What makes you think that I’m worth your love?” he whispers back and you can’t help but hold him tighter as your eyebrows furrow. “I’ll love you because you can’t love yourself, that’s fine with me.” Tears form in your eyes as his soften.
He sighs and strokes your back “Then please never leave me” he mumbles and you nod your head. “You won’t ever have to be alone, Park Jimin” he smiles and strokes your back as you look at him. “I’ll never leave you. I thought about it and I think it’s the best to have you by my side, I would like to adopt you” you smile. His breath stops for a moment as you finish your sentence.
His legs give in and you both rush to the floor. The dark strands of hair fall into his face and his sobs fill the room and you hug him tight. “You’ll have a home, a place where no one can hurt you. A place for you and me” he nods and you smile back at him
“I never thought that I'd ever escape this. I thought I’ll have to live like this, locked away like a mad person. Alone with my thoughts and what happened to me. But the second you came into my room I knew. I knew that all of this is going to change. That I’ll escape” you nod at him. “The moment I read about what happened to you, I knew that I would do everything I could to save you. I’ll give you the peace you deserve, I’ll love you until death does us apart, Park Jimin”

Flinging the blankets off your bed, you groaned into your pillow. No matter how comfortable your king-size bed was, your back remained persistently stiff. You would've liked to blame it on the relentless amount of online tutoring you received daily, your back hunched uncomfortably over the desk that sat in the very corner of your room. Finally, though, despite the pain etching itself into the base of your spine, you heaved yourself forward and up.
"Give me water. It should be on my dresser." You grumbled. Grimacing in pain, you waited for Hye Jin, your latest maid and probably the most inept servant you'd had to date, to hand you your water glass.
You eyed her warily as she tilted the glass in her grasp, precariously allowing water to slosh over the rim and onto your floor. "You know if you put two hands on the glass, you'd be less likely to spill it everywhere."
Hye Jin bowed apologetically, sending another stream of water onto your carefully made bedspread. The droplets wound down the edge of your silken sheets, tucking themselves between your layered mattress.
"I-I'm so sorry-"
"Forget it," you muttered, reaching out to take the partially empty glass from between her soft hands. "You can leave."
She turned on the base of her heel. You didn't watch her leave. Shaking the leftover water from your fingertips, you winced. You'd have to get someone in your room to clean up later — you didn't want anything to get stained, especially your sheets. They'd cost you a small fortune. You arched your back one last time, taking the first few steps out of bed. You gingerly made your way to the closet at the opposite end of your bedroom, careful not to let the old wooden floorboards creak beneath your feet.
"Are you sure we have to do this again? I've told you twice now; a matrimonial banquet is outdated to the point where it's almost laughable. Can't I just live peacefully on my own? It's not like I'll be crowned a ruler anyway." The smell of your omelet had you almost salivating — not that you'd ever let it show, of course — you'd be scolded for improper table manners.
"Don't be silly. You'll have just as much of a place in the kingdom as Namjoon. If anything, you and your spouse will be a wonderful addition to the council." With a wave of her hand, your mother dismissed your worry, a demure smile forming on the edges of her face.
You don't want a spouse. Before you could force yourself to refute, you felt a grip at the edge of your kneecap.
Namjoon bent towards you, breath ghosting the shell of your ear, "If you open your mouth, you'll be grounded for weeks. We'll speak after breakfast."
Grunting, you leaned back, curling your hands into your lap. "I'll keep that in mind, mother."
Namjoon's pacing hadn't gotten any better, and frankly, it was rather annoying. You were sure he'd eventually burn a hole into the floor of your bedroom.
"For the love of God — stop." The grip of your fingers against the broad expanse of his shoulders restricted his movements. He sighed against the chill of your fingertips, relocating to the cushioned chair beside your bed.
"I want to send you away." There was silence.
"Send me away? Why?" You choked. "I won't threaten your rule, I promise. I don't even want a seat on the counc-"
"I know how badly you want freedom and, if you'll give me a chance to explain," he threw a carefully pointed look in your direction before continuing, "I'd tell you about what I have in mind."
"Sorry, I won't stop you again, continue." You moved to the edge of your bed, careful to avoid the wet patches from earlier that morning. You'd told the head maid about it directly after breakfast. You supposed she hadn't gotten around to it yet.
"A group of my friends — magic users — spend a lot of time traveling. They'd be able to take you far enough away. I want you to come back eventually, but you need to stay out of trouble right now. Mother and father probably didn't tell you, but Kroydia [1] has threatened our kingdom with war again."
"Kroydia? Again?" Kroydia had been trying to start a war with your kingdom for ages. Your parents have managed to avoid confrontation until recently. Still, patience from both sides was vastly transparent, and everyone — you included — had been expecting conflict for some time.
"I think they mean it this time. Not that Kroydia didn't mean it the other times, but now it just seems so, I don't know, real. Like, they'll come to break down our walls and won't stop until they've conquered."
"You know, as much as I admire your will, it'll never do you any good to just protect me. You wouldn't come too?" You moved closer, playing with the hem of your knit shirt, something your mother gifted you the day of your twenty-first birthday.
"As much as I'd love to, you know Mother and Father would completely break apart if we both disappeared. Not to mention, I'm trained to fight. You were too frail as a child, and you never had the opportunity to learn the way I did."
He was right, of course. You'd been an incredibly ill child, which led to your parents putting more pressure on Namjoon to perform his duties as the eldest. That was something you'd always felt was wrong. Your parents always put so much care into you that they'd barely paid attention to Namjoon's well-being.
Looking up to meet your brother's eyes, you steeled yourself. You knew what you have to do, not just for yourself, but for the sake of your brother and parents, perhaps even the kingdom too. "I'll go. Tell me what to do."
The two of you had concocted a plan. Well, it was more Namjoon's plan than your own. He'd always more strategic than you when it came to these kinds of things — not that you attempted to flee all that often.
〤
"You'll meet Jimin at the back entrance to the kitchen. Knock thrice, and he'll know it's you. We'll enact this plan after supper — when everyone has finished cleaning up and is preparing for bed."
"Jimin? As in the head of the guard? Are you sure he won't tell our parents about this? He's sworn himself to the crown."
He'd only smiled, a grin playing at the edges of his lips. "But to which crown? There's more than one, isn't there?"
〤
You'd need to leave everything behind. You needed to vanish — no trace of you could be left behind. You can do this; just breathe. You'll be safe. Doing as your brother instructed, you knocked thrice, making sure to keep them loud enough to be heard but quiet enough not to alert the staff milling around the hallways. The door cracked open, Jimin's face appearing through a sliver in the door. He breathed a sigh of relief, creaking it open ever-so-slightly.
You could see him fully now. His hair, which was a dark brown, was pulled back in waves. He eyed you wearily, his bright brown eyes narrowing ever-so-slightly.
"We don't have much time. Your father likes to patrol the gardens mid-evening."
At that, you shimmied through the opening, huffing at the tight fit. Once you slipped through, Jimin turned a key into the lock situated to the left of the oak door — it was one-way like many of the doors leading to the castle's exterior — and twisted the doorknob to check that the lock was secure.
"Come on, Taehyung's waiting."
Taehyung was probably one of the most attractive men you'd ever seen. His face was almost all lines — cut and chiseled as if meticulously designed. His nose was especially attractive, delicately pointed, and sitting perfectly against the rest of his features.
"-oming or what?" He was close. He must've moved while you were lost in thought. "Are you coming or what? We don't have all day."
Not trusting yourself to speak, you inclined your head in affirmation, nervously glimpsing at Jimin, who stood to your right.
"I'll let your brother know you were given to Taehyung safely, your highness." Leaning forward, Jimin bowed.
"Thank you, Jimin." You'd never been one to crave something you'd ought to leave behind. Still, though, as you gazed at the castle that towered over you in all its immense glory, you were somehow inclined to yearn for all the things that you've never accomplished.

Woman Sense - NOV.2020: Refreshing Woman, Na Hye Mi, What's Her Plan for Starting 2nd Generation With Shinhwa’s Eric? + 10 Simple Questions Her Style (English Sub)
The Moment I Discovered Na Hye Mi’s Never-seen-before Charms
" I want to be an actor who is loved not only by the public but also by fellow actors and staff members I work with. For that to happen, I should become a better person, right?
"
I met actress Na Hye Mi. The misconception I had of her being somewhat haughty based on her sharp eyes disappeared completely with the first greeting. Although she was busy filming the drama these days, Na Hye Mi did not look the least bit tired. She smiled the entire time and gave carefully considered responses to each question. She was not super eloquent, but it was charming to see an honest and refreshing side of her. Even her apology for not being used to doing interviews was true to her character.
These days, Na Hye Mi's main interest is KBS1's new daytime drama “No Matter What.” It’s not that she does not have experience doing weekend and daytime dramas, but it is the first time that she plays such a big role. Although she had nerves and concerns about leading a daily drama as a leading actress, the excitement about greeting viewers with a new character was greater.
“No Matter What” is a family drama about the growth of children who have experienced divorce and remarriage of their parents. Na Hye Mi plays ‘Kim Bora,’ a weather forecaster who welcomes a stepfather after growing up in a single-parent household. Not only will there be a sweet love story line but the real relationship among family members will also be presented with colorful charms.
"I'm scared and nervous about the reactions." Na Hye Mi looked very excited for her meeting with Woman Sense, which took place just before the premiere of “No Matter What.” She still exuded the fresh energy and raw enthusiasm of a rookie. I became curious about Na Hye Mi, a refreshing woman who cannot easily be judged based on first impression.
Q. You’re back with a new drama. Na Hyemi: We only have two days left until the premiere (October 12th, 2020), but I'm still in a daze. I’m also wondering how the viewers will react. We started filming at the end of August and we've been working so hard up until now, but I think I still need to adjust to the set. I've experienced both weekend and daytime dramas, but I still feel like I have a long way to go. (laughs) My current role is bigger than any of my previous works, so I'm spending a lot of time thinking about how to lead the drama. Above all, I try my best to not to become a nuisance on the set.
Q.All of your previous works had high ratings. Na Hyemi: KBS2's weekend drama “My Only One” and KBS1's daytime drama “Home for Summer” both produced pretty high ratings. Sometimes I can't believe I was a part of such beloved dramas, so I feel more gratitude than anything. I was very fortunate. I'm still in touch and maintain good relationships with Lim Ye Jin sunbaenim and Uee unni, both of whom I met during that time. I hope I can also learn and gain new things after finishing “No Matter What.”
Q. This time, you become a weather forecaster. Na Hyemi: Weather forecasts are the voices we commonly hear in our daily lives. I thought I could imitate it quickly, but it turned out to be harder than I thought. I’m practicing very hard to look like a real weather forecaster. I’m even correcting my pronunciation while biting to a pen. It is not easy. In fact, it turns out weather forecasters and announcers have different pronunciations and vocalizations. I gained more respect for them while practicing.
Q. What kind of character can we expect from you in “No Matter What”? Na Hyemi: The character Kim Bora is very bubbly and fun. Since it’s a family drama, you can also enjoy a variety of harmony among the family members. In particular, please look forward to the sister chemistry between Kim Bora and 'Shin Ari' (Jung Min Ah). I only have a younger brother in real life so I really like having a sister in the drama (laughs). The drama is still at the beginning stages, so there hasn’t been much progress, but I hope viewers also enjoy the love story line. I'll be filming the drama until the end of the year, so my goal is to finish it without any trouble. I'll take the viewers’ criticism as interests, so please give us a lot of support.
Q. Coincidentally, your husband Eric will also be back onscreen with a new project in October (Eric stars in MBC's new drama “The Spies Who Loved Me”.) Na Hyemi: My husband started filming before me, but recently, I've been filming more often. That makes it harder to see each other. When I get home, I’m busy washing up and catching sleep, so there’s not much time to see each other face to face. We don’t get to talk a lot because we have to memorize our scripts and we’re busy with our own preparations, but we always encourage and cheer for each other.
Q. Do you ever choose projects for each other? Na Hyemi: We don't really discuss the choice of works with each other. I don't think I'm in a position to pick and choose a particular line of work, so I'm trying to do my best with the opportunities presented to me. The same goes for my husband. Since we are affiliated with different agencies, I think it’s only right that we discuss the projects with our own agency and staff members first. However, I do read the scenario and give feedbacks like “That's interesting.”
Q. You got married in 2017, has anything changed since your marriage? Na Hyemi: I lived with my parents before marriage. Of course I was comfortable and happy back then, but I definitely feel more emotionally stable after marriage. The part that I like the most is that I’m in the same career field as my husband and that we can understand each other. When one of us is having a hard time, we listen and give advice to each other. When we start a new project, it’s not like we can leave and come home at normal time like an office worker. There are times when people are naturally become less attentive in managing the household, so it’s good to be able to understand and take care of each other without saying it out loud. So far, we have had very few projects overlap, so one of us filled the vacancy when one person was away, but this time it's not easy because we’re both busy at the same time.
Q. Do you have any plans for children? Na Hyemi: Not yet. Right now, I'm trying to focus on the current work in front of me. I can’t think about having a baby or childrearing yet. I think I need a little more time. I will discuss it with my husband in the future. (laughs)
Q. Your personal life is behind a veil. You don't even use social media that much, do you? Na Hyemi: I do have an social media account, but I don't use it often. I don’t usually take a lot of pictures. I can’t show my face when I’m resting at home because I’m lounging around so comfortably. They say people appreciate a natural appearance these days, but how can I show myself with my hair in a messy bun (laughs). On my days off, I take walks with my two dogs or watch Netflix while eating snacks. Those are my best ‘small but definite happiness.’
Q. You have very good skin. Do you have any special beauty tips? Na Hyemi: Lately, I've been having skin trouble frequently while filming. I’ve tried various products, from famous beauty items to inexpensive cosmetic products known for having good ingredients, but I haven’t had much results. These days, I take time to wash my face twice because I want to focus on the basics. It's usually hard to wash your face thoroughly when you come home from work because you’re tired. I dedicate around 20 minutes for this. I also try to be as gentle as possible when I rub my skin. I consciously drink water instead of soft drinks or coffee to get enough hydration, and take lactobacillus and vitamins in the morning. My skin started getting better afterwards.
Q. What kind of hobbies do you usually enjoy? Na Hyemi: I started exercising because I've become more interested in immunity and physical strength lately. I’m a ‘hearinyi’ (health+child) who can’t even lift all the barbells but consume proteins religiously (laughs). It’s too much for me to maintain a strict diet at the same time so I mainly focus on muscle exercise using equipment. There are various exercise methods introduced on YouTube so I tend to refer to them. I wasn't the type who enjoys working out but it’s fun because when I do, it relieve my stress. I'm also proud of myself for doing it consistently. (laughs) t/n: *eorinyi = child
Q. Do you meet your friends often when you’re on a break? Na Hyemi: I used to see them often, but we haven't seen each other this year because of filming drama and COVID-19. I don’t enjoy drinking alcohol so I like to chat while drinking coffee at quiet places the most. I have a lot of non-celebrity friends whom I’ve known since I was in school, so we can’t stop chatting when we see each other. Some are married while others are still working, so it’s good listening to their various stories. The day goes by fast when we share our updates or talk about old memories.
Q. Do you seek advice from your friends? Na Hyemi: Truthfully, I don't really have any worries these days. I'm not a multitasker, so I only think about my work when I’m involved in a project. Even now, my biggest concern and priority is how to lead “No Matter What” and my acting. I think about what I can do, and if it still doesn't work out, I'll ask the director or my costars for advice.
Q. You seem to be more active in your work after marriage. Na Hyemi: It wasn't intentional, but I once had a long break from acting. Back then, I had a lot of desire to work. While monitoring other popular dramas, I was eager to do a project as soon as soon as possible. But just because you want to act doesn't mean you get a chance to be in a project. I think in those days, I wasn’t able to get many chances because I was lacking a lot as an actor. I was depressed after going through a hard time, but these days, I'm just happy every day. I'm very grateful to be part of a drama series.
Q. What did you do during your break? Na Hyemi: I felt lethargic and sluggish when I wasn’t doing anything. So I learned a variety of things like Chinese and guitar. It’s actually embarrassing to say I was learning stuff because I didn't really learn one thing intensively so I didn't master anything properly. (laughs) But it was still a pleasant experience back then, and it was a vital factor for me to get through the hiatus.
Q. You debut was in 2001. What's the driving force that made you come this far? Na Hyemi: When I look back on my work, every moment of filming remains a great source of pleasure for me. There were definitely times when I was tired or faced with limitations, but it's a precious memory incomparable to anything else. I think that feeling gives me the power to continue on. I went to auditions with the mindset, 'I lacked these kinds of acting skills. I think I can do better from now on!' You can only check to see if you're doing well based on the works that you can learn from. I think I’ve come this far to get that opportunity. There's no limit for the desire to do well.
Q. Many people still think of the MBC sitcom “High Kick” when they think of Na Hye Mi. Na Hyemi: It’s amazing that it’s still loved by so many people when it was 13 years ago. I heard that related videos are often uploaded on YouTube and it was still airing on TV recently. Some people also tell me they enjoyed it. (laughs) I'm often asked if I dislike the “High Kick” association. I'm so honored. I had a lot of fun during the filming too. It's just embarrassing to see my old self as a rookie again. (laughs) I think I can do better if I were to film it again. I'd like to try a project like “High Kick” if I get a chance.
Q. You probably want to try changing your image through a role. Na Hyemi: Until now, I’ve played many roles where I was haughty, chic or dressed up in fancy clothes. From now on, I want to try a down to earth and comfortable character like the girl next door. I want to show a natural side of me that is not made up at all. I'd like to try out a profession like doctor. Since I haven't been on the screen for a long time, it would be also nice doing a movie. It doesn't matter a romance or comedy genre. I like anything that’s a different from the previous image of Na Hye Mi. I'm ready to work hard on anything. (laughs)
Q. What do you think makes a good actor? Na Hyemi: I think an actor who can express the feelings in the script well and convey their feelings to the viewers is a good actor. Moreover, I want to become an actor who is loved not only by the public but also by fellow actors and staff members that I work with. For that to happen, I should become a better person, right? From now on, I want to encourage myself by telling myself “Let’s do better than I am now.”

Once a Leader, Always a Leader
Fan-Fiction: Sweet Home
Chapter 3 - LIKE BEFORE
P.S. from now on i to Eun-Hyeok's name as Eun-Hyuk (those names are pretty confusing for me so sorry hh)
Eun-Hyuk looked around the destroyed neighbourhood and decided that it is relatively safe for Hye-In to drive outside. He returned to the garage and gestured them to go. The van's engine made a low growl and charged forward. Eun-Hyuk jumped on the van, holding himself on the side on it. His sister watched him through the window as she sat next to Hye-In. Eun-Hyuk looked at her with a comforting smile as they drove through the ruins as fast as they could.
Of course, it didn't take long for them to attract the attention from monsters hanging around along the way. Within a few minutes, there were already two monsters making their way to the black van. Eun-Yu sent a panicked looked at her brother who was no longer holding onto the van. Her eyes quickly moved to find him again.
"Eun-Hyuk," she whispered as she saw him standing in front of the two monsters that were way bigger than him. Hye-In stepped on the brakes and stared at the scene in front of her breathlessly.
But then it came, the horrendous scream that made everyone in the van cringe as it was very unpleasant to their ears. Thankfully, it worked again - the monsters that were standing in front of Eun-Hyuk began to slowly crouch down and slowly crept away, trembling. Eun-Hyuk's terrifying holler came to a stop as he followed the monsters and destroyed them the same way he did before with that monster in the army base. After he was done, he tried to clean his hands from the filth but it didn't work as well as he wanted and started returning to the van, his sister watching him carefully.
Eun-Hyuk again climbed on the car, holding tight on the rearview mirror and Hye-In stepped on the gas.
"What are you doing to them that they fall apart like that?" Eun-Yu asked behind the closed window that was sealed shut. She didn't expect an answer since she believed that the window will also block off her voice, however Eun-Hyuk did look at her and mouthed a "later" to her. She crossed her hands and watched the road in front of her.
Since the scream, all the monsters seemed to hide away because they haven't met even one along their way. Eun-Hyuk gestured to Hye-In where to drive. Soon, they were closing in to the countryside. Eun-Yu recognized that place, their dad used to take her there to her grandmother. And that's where they were heading.
The van stopped at a smaller house that was now mostly covered in dirt and the front door was missing. But besides that, it looked completely fine - it would be enough for them. Eun-Yu jumped off the car and walked over to the back and opened the door, getting the kids out first.
"Ji-Su?" he asked as she sat up and looked around.
"Where are we?" she asked wearily.
"It's just a house we can take shelter in, come here, I'll take you," he said and stretched out his clawed hands that were still covered in the dried insides of the monsters to her which made her flinch away.
"Sorry," he said quietly and hid his arms behind his back.
"What's the hold up?" Eun-Yu asked and glanced at Ji-Su, "don't pull that face and let him carry you. I hell won't and you can barely sit."
Jin-Su nodded and sent a guilty look to Eun-Hyuk. "I am sorry, it's just..."
"I get it," he said with a smile and climbed into the vehicle which made it drop down a bit because of his weight. Eun-Hyuk carefully put his arms around her waist and the other one under her knees. "Ready?" he asked.
"Uh-huh."
He raised her slowly and got out, following his sister into the house where Hye-In was already sitting on a dusty couch with the children.
"What now?" Hye-In asked while petting her dog.
"Hm, I should get some food and medicine. Eun-Yu, could you check if the water works?" Eun-Hyuk said. Eun-Yu silently obeyed since her brother was still holding Ji-Su in his arms. She went to the kitchen to try opening the tap, however no water came out of it. That's not good.
"No water," she stated as she came back. Eun-Hyuk closed his and sighed. Another problem. "Alright, I'll figure that out. First things first, though. I don't hear anything out of the ordinary but I better check the place out. In about an hour, there's gonna be the golden hour. I'll go to find some resources. You should hide in the basement or somewhere... just to be safe. Okay, could you make space on the couch, please?" he said and looked at the children and Hye-In. They also obeyed wordlessly and got off of the couch. Eun-Hyuk, then, carefully laid Ji-Su on the couch and walked to the door. "I'm right back," he said and left quickly before the bunch could've said anything.
They stayed in silence, all of them deep in their thoughts and the children were sitting on the floor, watching them. It did not take long for Eun-Hyuk to return. He smiled at them when he entered the room, trying to ease up the atmosphere. "I've got some got news. The water was just turned off, so we should be able to use it for the time being and I didn't find any monster. I already prepped the basement, carried down two mattresses so you can get some rest."
"You managed to do all that within a few minutes?" Eun-Yu asked, using her annoyed voice to hide her bewilderment. He just shrugged and said: "Let's go then."
He picked up Ji-Su again, now without asking, and left for the basement, the others following him. The basement wasn't that big but it was enough. There were a few wooden cabinets with jars and boxes, the two mattresses were lying on the floor with a few blankets thrown on it and one light bulb in the middle of the room, hanging from the ceiling. Hye-In fixed up the mattresses so Eun-Hyuk could put Ji-Su down.
"Okay, so I am off for now. I'll block the door a bit just in case," Eun-Hyuk said and left them alone. After a few minutes, Ji-Su asked quietly: "What happened him? Is he an evolved monster now?"
Eun-Yu shrugged. "He didn't really tell us much. But it looks like it."
"He is different somehow, though, right?" Hye-In said.
"He seems that he is stuck somewhere in between monster and human," Eun-Yu noted.
With that, they all fell silent again, deep in their thoughts.
It had to take about two hours for them to hear footsteps behind the door again. At first, they were slightly alarmed but a familiar voice announced himself before he entered.
Eun-Hyuk put down a lot of heavy-looking bags filled with food, liquids, clothes and medicine. He quickly took out a bottle of desinfectant and some bandages and walked to Ji-Su. He sat down to her and uncovered her wound again and inspected it. "I will have to make a small cut to let the puss out, okay?" he asked.
"You've already operated on me without any drugs, I'll survive a little cut," she said with a weak smile.
"The sharpest things I have are only these, though," he said and showed her his claws that he had washed on the way back in a stream not far from the village. Ji-Su looked at his hands and then into his silver eyes that observed her, waiting for an answer. She only nodded and laid her head back again.
Eun-Hyuk dipped one of his claws into the desinfectant bottle and then made a very thin cut, letting the puss flow out. He then cleaned out the wound and bandaged Ji-Su up.
"It is done," he informed her and started standing up, she however grabbed him by his wrist and sent him a grateful smile: "Thank you. We are really lucky to have you."
That night, they rather stayed in the basement. Ji-Su, Hye-In and the children were laid out on the mattresses, sleeping. Eun-Yu put all the clothes and bags her brother brought on the floor so she could rest there, too. Eun-Hyuk was sitting by the wall nearby, looking at the cabinet next to him with a blank expression. Eun-Yu decided to go sit down right next to him which made him open his eyes in surprise. He looked down at her in wonder. She never wanted me to even touch her.
Eun-Yu took his heavy arm and put it around her shoulders and now she was holding onto his hand, playing with his fingers. He was being careful to not put his whole weight on her shoulders as Eun-Yu seemed so fragile the few last months. Eun-Yu fingers made its way to his claws but before she was able to touch them, his other hand stopped her.
"What are you doing!" he whispered loudly, "I could've hurt you."
She looked up at him and shrugged. "What happened when you left us in the tunnel?"
"Oh... well. I knew I was infected... So, I was somehow just ready to die."
Eun-Yu gave him a punch into his stomach but it didn't really have an impact on him and it only hurt her knuckles. He grabbed her hurt hand and caressed her knuckles with his thumb.
"I know, I am sorry. How long was it before I came back to you actually?"
"We were there about two weeks, I think," she whispered.
"Hm... I didn't know at first... but then I somehow remembered. At first, I only changed into a really nasty thing. I am not really sure how i looked like but I don't think I really had even a proper form. But then something changed. And I woke up 'again' and I looked like this. I think I did not really have a good perception of time back then. I am not sure what happened first and what next. But yeah, then I was like this."
"Oh, well, I am glad you came back."
"Me too."
They stayed silent for a bit.
"What will we do now?" Eun-Yu asked after a while.
"Get some rest for now, we can deal that in the morning," Eun-Hyuk answered calmly.
His sister rested her head against him and stayed like that until she fell asleep. Soon, Eun-Hyuk's eyes closed, too.
...
"Oppa, wake up!" Yeong-Su pinched Eun-Hyuk into his calf. He immediately opened his eyes and looked at the child watching him.
"I like you like this more," he said with a cheerful smile and rested his hand on Eun-Hyuk's knee. Eun-Yu was woken up by the talking and raised her head.
"No way," she gasped.
"What?" Eun-Hyuk turned to her, his eyebrows lifted.
"You look like before," Hye-In finally enlightened him.

Hi!~ I was wondering if you could write a JuminxMC, where she has severe financial trouble. She doesn't tell Jumin and tries to hide it because she wants to fix it on her own, but something happens and Jumping discovers she's crashing at a friend's/having two jobs, something like that. Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the request!
[Jumin x MC]
“Good morning!” you greeted merrily as a customer walked in. It’s 9am and it’s only the first hour of your shift, just 5 more hours, you thought, until your shift is over. And then another more 6 hours from your second job.
You worked as a cashier and waitress, doing a double job to pay off your debts. You didn’t noticed how you maxed out your credit card, and without any money, you decided to leave your apartment before another bill comes.
You let out a sigh when the customer was out of sight, it’s a slow hour but you know you have to be alert and save your energy because when the clock hits 12 o’clock students and workers will come rushing in for lunch break, leaving you to little to no break for yourself at all.
You suddenly felt a vibration from your back pocket, fishing out your phone you saw Jumin calling. You bit your lip, you didn’t want a distraction during work hours, but you also didn’t want to miss Jumin’s call. You scanned where the customer was and they were still roaming around with a half filled basket.
“Hye-jin, I’m going to take a call, it’ll just be quick,” you called out to your coworker at the back room, she just responded a yeah sure and replaced you where you were standing.
“Hey, good morning,” you chirped as soon as you answered the call.
“Good morning to you too, my love” Jumin smiled on the other line, he always loved hearing your voice. “I have a meeting near your area, do you want to have lunch-”
“Lunch? Oh I.. I can’t I still have some errands to do,” you cut him off, you bit your lip. It’s been the nth time since you’ve been ditching him on lunch dates, not that you didn’t want to have lunch with him, you did, but.. You still had work during lunch hours, work that Jumin doesn’t know.
“Errands? Again?” he sighed, “I guess it can’t be helped. Are you sure you don’t want help from Assistant Kang?” he inquired, freely letting his assistant go if it means helping you out.
You smiled at his sincere thoughts, but of course you didn’t want to cause any more troubles for Jaehee, especially it’s not something you’d want him to know.
“No, I’m fine, but thank you,” you said softly. “I miss you,” you whispered. it’s been days since you last saw him, “I miss you too,” he said. You smiled, knowing that he will always reciprocate your feelings, and you will always too.
After the phone call end you went back inside and ringed the customer. Just 5 more hours…
–
Jumin’s afternoon meeting ended… quite late than he anticipated. It was already 10 in the evening, he wondered if you had dinner. Checking his phone he saw your text.
Did you eat yet? 9:51pm
A small smile formed on his lips, instructing Driver Kim to go to your favorite restaurant as he’d like to take out your favorite food.
6th knock and nothing. Jumin sighed, maybe you were asleep already? He’s been outside your apartment for 6 minutes and no one is answering the door. Maybe he should’ve called.. but then it would ruin the surprise, and oh how he’d love to see you surprised.
The landlady, who was luckily to be there and witness Jumin’s persuasive knocking, suddenly spoke. “No one’s living there anymore,” she said.
Jumin turning to the landlady bowed, paying respect as the landlady was an elderly. Surprised to hear you weren’t there anymore, little by little his anxious thoughts were creeping up to him.
MC moved.. But why? Why didn’t she tell me?
“Do you happen to know where she moved?” Jumin asked politely, sadly the landlady just shook her head.
Jumin… didn’t want to invade your privacy. He never wanted to make you feel uncomfortable, but you ditching lunch dates.. not telling him you moved out.. his anxious feelings caught up to him, he had no choice. He at least have to know where you are, he had to know you were okay, he dialed Seven’s number.
–
“MC, are you sure you won’t sleep yet?” your very kind friend who has been letting you stay for a week now, asked.
“Yeah, go ahead first, I still have some things to sort out,” you said as you took out a notebook and calculated the money you have. You scratched your head with the pen and bit your lip, you still had a long way to go but at least you’re making progress.
You checked your phone to see if Jumin replied, but to no avail. You sighed and stretch your arms, you just feel… tired. And sad. And tired. And sad. You missed Jumin, but you had to endure just a few more weeks.. You didn’t want to bring your money problems right after your marriage, it didn’t felt right..
Your thoughts were interrupted by an aggressive knocking on the door, “Just a sec!” you shouted. Who could it be at this hour?, you thought. Opening the door, to your surprise, it was Jumin. His hair disheveled, his tie loose, his sleeves scrunched up to his elbows and his buttons opened until the 3rd.
“Ju-Jumin!” you stuttered, eyes wide open and mouth agape. His expression.. certainly does not looked pleased.
“Care to tell me what’s going on MC?” his voice was stern, his eyes directly piercing through yours. You gazed away as you closed the door behind you.
“How did you… I…” your throat felt dry, you stomach churning and your feet fidgeting. Tears start to form in your eyes, you didn’t want Jumin to find out like this, you didn’t want him to know about it. It felt so.. shameful…embarrassing.. you felt so helpless..
Jumin sighed and placed his hands on your shoulders, “Please MC, tell me,” his voice now soft and low, he pulled you closed and stroked your hair. “Is it..” he took a sharp breathe,”is it someone else?” he quietly asked, a question that took you by surprise.
“No! No no no!” you exclaimed as you pulled away and tears fell, you looked at him and saw his tired soft eyes, his brows furrowed in worry and concern. You placed on hand on his cheek, “I could never,” you whispered. Jumin gave you a small smile and held the hand that was on his cheek, “Then please love, tell me what’s going on,” you sighed and nodded your head.
You removed your hand and started to fidget, looking down as you started to explain.
“So.. Uhmm.. I maxed out 3 of my credit cards… and I moved out and took my deposit to pay some of the debt.. I’ve been staying here for a while and..” you looked up to him, “I didn’t want to tell you because I wanted to solve it on my own and..” you looked down again, “I didn’t want to bring my debt into our marriage so I took two jobs..” you didn’t want to ask him for help.. it felt.. shameless…
Jumin let out a relief sighed, pulled you close and kissed your temple, “Thank you,” he whispered. The anxiety that was once eating him now gone, “but MC, I’m your fiancee,” he said as he pulled you away and held you by your shoulders, looking into your eyes. “Don’t you think I have the right to know these things?” you felt so little under his gaze and touch. You knew he was right..
“You will be my other half, your problem will be mine as well,” he said in a low voice. He understood that you wanted to solve your own problems, but his anxiety won’t stay put, his brows furrowed trying to find a compromise where he could feel some ease.
“If you want to work and pay off your debt by yourself, I understand,” he said, “but please,” he pulled you close once again, “stay at my penthouse. You can stay at the guest room if you want,” he stroked your hair and smelled it, your scent sending off a wave on his body that made his worries go away, holding you close like this, yes it felt right. “Just let me do this, please,” he pleaded. You clutched to his chest, inhaling his scent, you nodded under him.
You looked up to him one had rested on his chest while the other found its way on Jumin’s cheek again. “I’m sorry I made you worry,” you said “I love you,” your voice lower than before. He smiled and took your hand, placing a kiss on your palm.
After days of not seeing him, you just felt safe and sound in his arms. Felt like home. He leaned in to kiss you, his hand wrapped on your waist to support you as his other hand held your cheek, making the kiss deeper.
“I love you too MC,” he whispered, caressing your cheek. You bit your lip, you missed him so much that you let yourself indulge a little more, leaning into him and kissed him once more. Jumin chuckled, letting himself indulge a little more too.

Episode 13:
Yoo Ji went to report to her work in the news station the next morning. It was really cold but Yoo Ji’s mood was very high. She was smiling and grinning at everyone. She went to meet with her supervisor to hand in all her work for the last 10 months. She sent him updates while she was in Urk but the articles she wrote were printed and in a formal envelope to hand in.
“Good morning” she greeted him at his desk.
“Hello, Mun Yoo Ji,” he responded, “take a seat” he gestured to the chair in front of him. She bowed and took a seat.
“I thank you for your hard work in Urk, and hope you keep that work ethic going now that you’re back” he started, Yoo Ji’s smile dimmed just a little. Her supervisor complimenting her work was a rare occurrence but it also means that he bears news.
“Thank you, and of course” she responded, keeping her tone light and formal.
“While you were gone, I had a few reporters try to take this case, but they haven't found anything useful that we can use,” he started to brief her. Yoo Ji realized that he wanted her to take another assignment. Usually, she would get a little break, but today is not the case as it seems. Yoo Ji nodded her head.
“Here is the folder that we have so far” he handed her an envelope, as she took it she felt that it was too light. Yoo Ji would have to fix that.
“I expect you to do your best” he finished as he looked at her with a hard stare.
“Of course, I will do my best,” Yoo Ji responded. She got up and bowed and took her leave.
She went to her desk, which was more like a cubicle than an actual desk. Her cubicle buddy peeked his head above the thin wall separating them.
“Yoo Ji! You’re back!” Jung Hye Jin exclaimed with enthusiasm.
“What’s up Jung?” Yoo Ji greeted.
“How was Urk? I heard that there was a lot to cover”
“It wasn’t too bad” Yoo Ji responded as she organized her desk and got out a few cleaning tools that she keeps in the bottom drawer of her desk. She keeps wipes and a dust Swiffer so when she comes back she can take care of the dust collecting on her desk and brush up her desk clean and start working again. She leaned back and observed the room, it seems everyone has not changed and still does what they have been doing.
Jung Hye Jin leaned over and whispered, “Dani broke up with her boyfriend, Steve is having problems with Mai over who will get to cover what issue tonight at 7 and Sung Ha is pregnant” he filled her in on how their co-workers are doing. Yoo Ji grinned at him and assessed each of the people they talked about. Dani looked exhausted and her face was a little swollen, she wasn’t wearing makeup either, Steve; the only foreigner that works at their station, was heatedly talking with Mai. Mai was rolling her eyes at the man and waving her hands discreetly. Sung Ha didn't look any different except Yoo Ji noticed that she walks a little slower and that her hands subconsciously keep brushing against her stomach.
“I have taught you well” Yoo Ji praised Hye Jin, although Hye Jin is a year older Yoo Ji had told him about a few pointers to improve his observation skills.
“So did you get the Armadillo case?” Hye jin asked curiously, Yoo Ji nodded taking out the file, she opened to find one single piece of paper. Yoo Ji raised an eyebrow.
“They didn't find out anything?”
“They don't even know if the crime was committed by a ghost or not,” Hye Jin scoffed. Yoo Ji groaned, she unlocked her phone and went to call Gwang Nam. She went outside to the office and into the lounge.
“Hello?” his voice came through.
“Please tell me you’re having a better time than I am” she rolled her eyes at the amount of digging she has to do when she goes back. She didn't even try to read the paper knowing how scarce the information is going to be.
“Are you okay? Are you injured?” he questioned with worry. Yoo Ji rolled her eyes extra hard this time.
“I am fine, I just got handed a case with nothing but one piece of paper and no background information.”
“Why do you always think I am in mortal danger? I am a reporter, not a special forces soldier” Yoo Ji joked.
“At this point are you not going to the police station? I assumed you were going to gather information using dangerous methods” he retorted back to her verbal jab.
“You know me too well” Yoo Ji smirked, she glanced at the door and asked him when his flight got back.
“In two days, I think it leaves at 3 AM but I am not sure. I’ll have to check it” he replied, she heard him shuffling paper on his end.
“Alright, just keep me updated, I have to go, I am meeting up with Mo Yeon for lunch”
“Alright, don’t make any trouble” Yoo Ji rolled her eyes, told him goodbye. Yoo Ji hung up and sighed, she’ll have to visit the police station.
“Was that your boyfriend?” Hye Jin teased as she sat back down at her desk.
“You could say that, but he could also be my drug dealer,” she said with a straight face, Hye Jin looked horrified, Yoo Ji broke out in a chuckle and told him she was just kidding.
“Yeah, I met him in Urk,”
“Oh, foreign man!”
“No he’s Korean, he was one of the soldiers stationed in the base I was at” she explained, taking the paper once more and skimming it, the victim died of blunt force to the head. Hye jin nodded, smiling cheekily but went back to his work.
The victim’s name is Lee Eun Ki and he’s 39 years old. Her eyes skimmed through the description of the crime scene, and what they were able to recover, her eyes found the detective assigned to the case and rolled her eyes. It was a rookie cop assigned to the case.
“I am heading to the police station” Yoo Ji informed Hye Jin, she grabbed her backpack.
“Greet Kang Rae Wook for me” Hye Jin yelled back as she got out the door.
Yoo Ji took the bus that went straight to the police station from her work, it took around 25 minutes to get there as there were three stops in between.
“I am here to interview Park Ji-Hun about the homicide of Lee Eun Ki” Yoo Ji informed the receptionist, she looked new, Yoo Ji peeked behind her to see if she could find anyone that she knew.
“He’s been taken off the case” the lady responded after looking it up on her desktop.
“Who has it then?” Yoo Ji questioned. The lady was about to read the name of the detective when a male’s voice cut in from behind Yoo Ji.
“I am the leading detective on that case now” Yoo Ji turned around and found Kang Rae Wook.
Kang Rae Wook is an old acquaintance of hers, he hates sharing information as much as he hates criminals. He is assigned difficult homicides all the time because his superiors hate him for his take-no-shit attitude. He is a middle-aged man, he can be seen as an attractive man but to Yoo Ji, he’s just an asshole that loves to withhold information when she investigates with him but he is an old friend and he has proved himself trustworthy on multiple occasions. Yoo Ji grinned.
“Hello Detective Kang, I am officially back” Yoo Ji exclaimed, she loves to annoy him, he’s very easily pissed off and Yoo Ji takes advantage of his short temper. It's been 10 months since she last saw him, and she might’ve not told him she was leaving so he looked very pissed off.
“Where the hell have you been?” Rae Wook asked signaling her to follow him down to his desk.
“I was assigned to a Korean base in Urk to cover their peace treaty efforts” Yoo Ji explained. Rae Wook looked at her with a deadpan look.
“How much trouble did you cause?”
“Hey! I am an angel, I didn't do anything...” she defended, trailing off.
“Three times but they weren't even completely my fault” she relented, telling him the truth.
“It was such a nice break from your nagging” Rae Wook sighed as they came to stop at his desk.
“Well, I am back now and you can't get rid of me” Yoo Ji grinned cheekily. She looked to the right side of his desk where his partner should be sitting.
“Where is Lee Hwa Dong?” she asked with a curious look at Hwa Dong’s desk. She got closer to inspect and flip open some folders on his desk when the said man walked in.
“No touching!” his deep voice startled Yoo Ji and she straightened her back and withdrew her hand.
“Hi!” she cheekily greeted, as the older man looked at her with raised eyebrows. She walked over and hugged him, his arms came around her.
Lee Hwa Dong was Kang Rae Wook’s partner, he is a man of few words, but he's very caring. Yoo Ji is almost like his little sister, they are very close. He is also one of the only ones that know about the Kim Hoon Jae case, he never brings it up and that makes Yoo Ji appreciate him even more. Lee Hwa Dong became Rae Wook’s partner after he got on the bad side of the chief and this partnership was his punishment, except they work great as a team and solve many of the hard cases they’re assigned.
Yoo Ji became their friend when she was tailing a suspect and they found her out. She befriended them, and Hwa Dong recognized her from the case. Since then she would hang out with them anytime they had the same case assigned and more often than not they work together since she deals with Armadillo cases in her station. The last time she had seen them was a few months before she left, she had written a particular article the higher-ups didn't like and her boss switched her to cover some petty fights between rich people which is why she was hanging out at the Haesung Hospital.
“I missed you, Firefly” he ruffled her hair, it was in a half up half down hairstyle with her bangs framing her face, but now it just looks like someone had flipped her hair upside down. Yoo Ji huffed and fixed her hair.
“I missed you too, but I definitely did not miss this” she pointed at her hair.
“Yoo Ji, why are you here?” Rae Wook said as he stared at Yoo Ji with a blank look.
“I got assigned another Armadillo case” Yoo Ji decided that she wouldn't beat around the bush and just told them why she’s here. She pulled out one piece of paper given to her by her boss.
“All they gave me was the autopsy report, which looks half-assed, to be honest,” she said as she handed Rae Wook the report.
“He only recorded vague descriptions, you need a new M.E.” Yoo Ji informed them.
“Lee Eun Ki, the probable cause of death is a blunt force to the back of the head” Rae Wook read out loud.
“M.E. also says that that's the only bruising he found on the body and I think that's bull” Yoo Ji continued.
“Okay, we’ll go talk with the M.E. to find out more” Hwa Dong decided. Yoo Ji’s phone rang, it was Gwang Nam. Yoo Ji quickly declined his call and texted him she’ll call him later.
“Who is that?” Hwa Dong asked.
“No one” Yoo Ji answered too fast, she mentally cringed.
“Oh, secret boyfriend” Rae Wook smirked. Yoo Ji stayed quiet not denying or confirming his assumption.
“I’ll go get his medical records to look them over. It will be just like old times!” Yoo Ji diverted the conversation away.
“He’s a doctor?” Hwa Dong teased.
“No, soldier, I was going to go have lunch with Mo Yeon anyway” Yoo Ji rolled her eyes, might as well tell them. They were going to meet him sooner or later.
“Alright disperse, keep us updated if you find anything” Rae Wook finalized, Yoo Ji bid them goodbye and left the police station.
Yoo Ji arrived at the hospital and went into the lobby to ask about Mo Yeon and where she would be. The nurse at the front desk told her that she’s probably in the cafeteria. When she spotted Mo Yeon and her friends, she went over to them. Mo Yeon sounded really angry on the phone, she slammed her phone down on the table.
“That sounds like a break up” Yoo Ji commented as Sang Hyun pulled a chair for her to sit in.
“Ugh, I can't believe I have to do this.” Mo Yeon groaned.
“Why? Captain Yoo isn't coming after all?” Doctor Song asked. Yoo Ji stole a part of someone's sandwich.
“What a shame!” Chi Hoon responded with a small smile on his face.
“Have you resigned yet?” Yoo Ji ignored the two men as they started snickering.
“Captain Yoo would be able to quickly go and get the resignation letter that's upstairs in the Chairman's office.” Chi Hoon answered while also not answering Yoo Ji’s question. He waved his snickers bar in front of his face.
“You got rejected for the loan,” Yoo Ji stated after swallowing the bite.
“Just go and plead.” Nurse Choi said.
“How can I go and plead after making such a scene?” Mo Yeon whined and Yoo Ji raised an eyebrow.
“I can’t believe I missed it!” Yoo Ji clicked her tongue in disappointment. Mo Yeon groaned and rested her forehead on the edge of the table.
“So then there's a professor's position available. Sweet.” Sang Hyun snapped his fingers.
“Then are you going to continue appearing on TV?” Sang Hyun continued to ask questions without letting Mo Yeon respond.
“Seriously, Sunbaenim.” Mo Yeon groaned, cutting off Sang Hyun’s ranting. The table rattled, Mo Yeon’s eyes widened, just like everyone else’s. Yoo Ji felt her heart jump into her throat and she held her breath as they all dived under the table. It took a few seconds for them to realize that it wasn't an earthquake but a few construction workers that were breaking up gravel on the main street.
“Damn it” Yoo Ji murmured as he heartbeat slowed down. A doctor passing by leaned down.
“Is there something down here?”
“I wish there was.” Doctor Song responded with a small laugh, which sounded more like an exhale of air to sound nonchalant.
“Should we try laughing like it was a joke?” Doctor Kang pondered
“No.” all five of them responded simultaneously. Mo Yeon nodded and they stood up and settled back into their seats.
After their lunch, Yoo Ji told them that she has to go to the lobby to get some information on a new case she has and so she parted with them.
“So what's the new case?” Nurse Choi asked.
“Deadman, no suspects” Yoo Ji responded as they walked to their destination.
“Interesting” Yoo Ji nodded with a small smile, it won't be a mystery any longer, she will get the medical records and have some clues on where to go from there.
“Can you give me the medical file on Lee Eun Ki?” Yoo Ji asked the receptionist.
“Are you related to him?” the nurse asked. Yoo Ji got out her badge, she had one made that mirrored Rae Wook’s and Hwa Dong’s. Yoo Ji doubts they knew about it but they will not be surprised.
“He’s dead, I need his medical records to investigate the cause of death,” Yoo Ji said with the most professional cop voice she could muster. Nurse Choi watched and shook her head. As soon as Yoo Ji got the file and the nurse left, Nurse Ha commented on Yoo Ji’s methods.
“You’ll get arrested for that”
“Not really, I’ve made friends with the whole police station” Yoo Ji stated, her eyes skimming through all the background information and all the other useless stuff. Her eyes caught on small details but it wasn't a big clue at all. The victim had a congenital disorder, it isn't specified which one which is strange usually it would say.
Yoo Ji focused on who she can talk to that would know his last interaction with any information about what kind of person he was. The important kind of background information, not this white noise that's been recorded. Yoo Ji quickly dialed Hwa Dong’s number, after the third ring he picked up. Nurse Choi waved at her as she left to receive the emergency victim that was coming in.
“Hello,”
“I got the relatives' information, but other than that, nothing really stands out” she informed him.
“The M.E. might not be sure if the blunt trauma was man inflicted, but the bruises on the face were definitely were and that's why he ruled it as a homicide.” Hwa Dong filled her in on their side of the investigation. There was a small pause before he spoke again with uncertainty in his voice.
“When we were down there, the M.E. told us that when he received the body, it seemed to be...too polished, almost like someone had cleaned up the evidence before he did”
“I’ll look into any of the family members that have a history with dead bodies, got it.” Yoo Ji nodded her head, she noticed Mo Yeon coming towards them. She hung up and watched as Mo Yeon put on gloves and started diagnosing the victim. Yoo Ji was still far enough that she can't hear them clearly, but it looks like she didn't get fired after all, just in the E.R. and Yoo Ji would bet that she was the on-call surgeon from now on. The chairman really had it out for her.
Mo Yeon acknowledged her as she got her gown and was explaining to Nurse Ha and Doctor Soong that she was fired from the VIP ward but was the E.R. surgeon all the time now. Yoo Ji bid them goodbyes and went back to the news station to start digging with the newfound information, no matter how little.
As she was on the bus, she remembered to call Gwang Nam back. It should be a night at Urk.
“Hello?” his voice came through.
“Sorry I couldn't respond I was at the police station” Yoo Ji looked down and picked at her backpacks loose strings.
“So I was right.” he chuckled.
“I found something but it's just a start, I have so much work” Yoo Ji groaned. She barely got back and she was already starting to feel exhausted, her body had barely any time to recover from all the physical strain it had been in Urk and now she had to follow leads that will lead to more dead ends then the actual killer.
“You’ll be fine.” Gwang Nam assured her.
Two days later
Yoo Ji had checked her phone at least 6 times at this point. Gwang Nam is supposed to text her that they arrived soon and she was itching to get off work and go to him. She missed him a lot. She was fidgety. If Hwa Dong and Rae Wook noticed, they didn't say anything, but Yoo Ji knew that Rae Wook would crack and ask. She was driving him insane.
“Stop. moving.” he gritted his teeth, glaring at her.
“Sorry” she apologized.
“Are you waiting for exam results? Why are you so anxious?” Hwa Dong set down the papers that they were looking at. Rae Wook was able to access some records of the relatives and they were reviewing their information such as their jobs and their relationship with the victim.
“I am waiting for a phone call” Yoo Ji responded, not telling them the vital information that they seek.
“From who?” Rae Wook asked, raising a questioning eyebrow at Yoo Ji’s mysteriousness.
“Uh- a friend I made when I was on my assignment” Yoo Ji’s eyes checked her phone again.
“Boyfriend” Rae Wook and Hwa Dong smirked as they agreed.
“What? No! It's nothing like that” Yoo Ji denied.
“Hye Jin told us you met a soldier and that you’re waiting for his call”
“Why ask if you already knew” Yoo Ji rolled her eyes, she picked up her phone from her desk and pocketed it.
“Are you not gonna tell us anything?” Hwa Dong asked.
“There’s not much to tell, he's a First Sergeant, he comes back today from being deployed at Urk” Yoo Ji waved off.
“When do we get to meet him?” Hwa Dong kept the conversation going, Rae Wook had picked up the forgotten papers and got back to reading while listening to Yoo Ji’s answers.
A small ping from Yoo Ji’s phone made her start grinning as she fished it out of her pocket and read the message. Gwang Nam had just finished meeting with his superior and could meet up.
“You can meet him if you give me a ride” Yoo Ji grinned as she offered. Hwa Dong nodded and tapped Rae Wook so that he can wrap up and they can leave.
“We’ll see if he’s worth it” Rae Wook muttered under his breath, he was walking behind Yoo Ji, she heard him and drew her elbow back and aimed a jab at his stomach. Yoo Ji got another text message with where they were supposed to meet.
“He is, he saved me on multiple occasions, not that I needed to be saved. But the thought counts” Yoo Ji replied to his skeptical comment. They all got into Hwa Dong’s car.
Yoo Ji was excited, it's only been a few days, but the new environment of their home feels more mysterious than the war-torn country they were in. Yoo Ji thought they could have more normal dates here, instead of minefield dates, although they sound cooler, Yoo Ji did like the idea of normalcy, just something about everyday life that makes her feel giddy.
“Aw, look at Firefly all excited to meet with her boyfriend” Rae Wook teased looking back at her in the back of the car as he sat in the passenger seat. Yoo Ji rolled her eyes, she focused on the scenery passing by. She wondered how he would react to her friends. She quickly texted him that she was getting a ride from her friends and he’ll meet them today. Gwang Nam responded that he doesn’t mind.
They arrived at the coffee shop, Yoo Ji jumped out of the car, she was swinging slightly on the balls of her feet. Rae Wook and Hwa Dong looked at her with chuckles and amusement in their eyes.
They walked in and Yoo Ji’s eyes swept around to spot Gwang Nam. Instead, Gwang Nam noticed her first and waved her over. Yoo Ji was taken back, she hasn't seen him in casual clothing in so long. He was wearing white shirt and black slacks. As they neared his table, she noticed a black blazer that matched his pants. He looked good, glowing even in the winter air. She felt herself slip into comfortableness as she subconsciously remembered how at ease he makes her. She didn't need to be on guard all the time when she was with him, she trusted him. It had little to do with actual protection even though she knows he can probably physically protect her, but also in every way emotionally.
Rae Wook and Hwa Dong were observing Yoo Ji closely, she watched as her demeanor went excited to relax, just at the sight of the man. They gave each other glances, and they came to an understanding that this man really had Yoo Ji’s complete or most of her trust, so he must be trustworthy.
“Let me introduce you guys, Gwang Nam meet Detectives Kang Rae Wook and Lee Hwa Dong,” Yoo Ji started as soon as they got settled at the table, “Rae Wook and Hwa Dong meet First Sergeant Lim Gwang Nam.”
The men shook hands and smiled politely, Yoo Ji scrunched her nose at the formality of the air, she’s seen both men be comfortable, the awkwardness is really unnecessary, in her opinion.
“How was your flight back?”
“It was fine, the turbulence wasn't bad” Gwang Nam assured her.
“Did you just come back?” Rae Wook asked, Gwang Nam nodded.
“Yoo Ji’s flight was two days earlier than mine, I had to leave with my team,” he explained. The two cops nodded.
“What do you specialize in?” Hwa Dong questioned curiously. Yoo Ji remained quiet but silently rolled her eyes, they were questioning him like he was in an interrogation.
“Sniping and hand to hand”
“How many confirmed kills?” Rae Wook fired his next question.
“that's confidential information.” Yoo Ji cut in, she raised an eyebrow at Rae Wook.
“This sounds like an interrogation, not a friendly get together. Stop,” Yoo Ji firmly ended the questioning.
“Alright, I apologize for my coworker’s behavior, we just care a lot about our friend” Hwa Dong relented first under Yoo Ji’s gaze.
“It’s alright, it’s good that Yoo Ji has friends that care about her,” Gwang Nam smiled.
“Well that's a first, usually we don't hear Yoo Ji’s boyfriends very happy that she's friends with two male cops” Rae Wook snorted, Yoo Ji mentally facepalmed. She should’ve taken just Hwa Dong, he doesn't cause as much trouble as Rae Wook.
“Ah well, it comforts me that there are people around her that can protect her,” he paused before adding, “if she can't do it herself, of course.” he grinned as he looked at Yoo Ji’s deadpanning face. The two cops chuckled at the couple.
“We see that you care about her very much,” Hwa Dong approved, smiling.
“How was Urk? Did she cause trouble? I heard that she fucked shit up at least three times” Rae Wook smirked as Yoo Ji sighed and groaned.
“It was good, she just kept on pulling out cards with ‘I do what I want’ on them and got kidnapped and escaped by herself” Gwang Nam chuckled as he revealed their adventures.
“Damn Firefly, you can't even let him play knight in shining armor for at least one night” Rae Woook teased Yoo Ji.
“I don't need saving, I handled it by myself just fine” Yoo Ji huffed.
“Oh I remember, you had the guy at gunpoint” Gwang Nam stated.
“You let her use a gun?” Hwa Dong demanded.
“We taught her how to use a gun, remember? Why are you so surprised? Wait until she uses it on a civilian and then be shocked” Rae Wook deadpanned.
“Hopefully that day won’t come” Gwang Nam responded, chuckling, Yoo Ji had her face in her hands in humiliation.
“Okay, we actually have to go do more research on the ongoing Armadillo case, but it was nice meeting you” Hwa Dong said as he checked his watch. Rae Wook nodded and both of them left the table. Yoo Ji excused herself to talk to them separately.
“Are you guys hiding something from me? I didn't know we had more information to look for?” she queried.
“We scheduled an interview with the person that found the body, just some routine stuff you can skip. We’ll tell you if we find anything” Hwa Dong assured her as he gave her a side hug and Rae Wook saluted her with a smirk.
Yoo Ji returned to her seat.
“They didn't tell me they were interviewing someone,” Yoo Ji explained to Gwang Nam when she came back. Gwang Nam nodded and sipped his drink.
“So what do you plan to do now that you’re back?” Yoo Ji asked. She didn't know what he normally did when he was his civilian self, she couldn't assume he would do routine checks on their weapons even in Korea.
“Well I am on vacation for three days, I haven't decided yet.” he responded, looking deep in thought.
“What about Shi Jin and Dae Young?” Yoo Ji continued, she stole his drink and sipped the iced coffee. Gwang Nam chuckled.
“They are embarking on their ‘No Nights and Three Days’ adventure”
“What is that?” Yoo Ji furrowed her eyebrows.
“They drink for three days and don't sleep or go home,” he explained. Yoo Ji’s eyes widened.
“That sounds fun,” Yoo Ji laughed.
“Will you be joining them?”
“Will you?”
“I don't know, I haven't decided yet. It depends on whether we’re going to do anything together.”
“Do you have any ideas on what you want to do?” Yoo Ji commented when she found Gwang Nam looking at her with a glint.
“Let’s go airsofting”
“You're not sick of shooting guns all the time?” Yoo Ji asked incredulously.
“It’s my job and hobby” Gwang Nam shrugged, “besides I never got to see how good you were, I always came at the end” he chuckled.
“Don't cry when I beat your ass,” Yoo Ji smirked.
It was the day after Yoo Ji and Gwang Nam’s small date. Yoo Ji was going to go investigate the family members. The two cops and Yoo Ji decided that the assailant was probably someone the victim knew seeing as there weren't any defensive wounds.
The victim’s parents own a barbecue place, and that's where Yoo Ji was heading. She wanted to observe them before she actually asked them any questions. Yoo Ji found that watching them in their natural habitat can tell you a lot about them, she can find out if they are financially stable, if they handle stress well, how they respond to rude customers. It all tells something about their character as a family.
She sat in the back of the restaurant and ordered like a normal customer, she spent hours watching the mother; Choi Jun Bae and the father; Lee Don Hee. they were in their late 60s. They served customers and made their orders. It was a very busy day, they were running around and didn't even have time to make eye contact. Yoo Ji huffed, this proved to be useless, It doesn't always yield results. She paid for her food and left.
As she was leaving she got a text message from Myung Ju to come to a certain food joint. Yoo Ji furrowed her eyebrows until the realization dawned on her, the ‘no night and three days’ the boys were doing. She quickly texted back that she’s on her way and got off the bus to take another that's going in the right direction. Yoo Ji mentally scowled, she should really invest in a car. She knows how to drive one but she doesn't own one.
As soon as she arrived she peeked in, she saw Mo Yeon’s back standing in front of a table where Myung Ju was sitting in her uniform sipping soup. She went inside with a smile, but her smile faded as she saw the boys completely wasted. Cheol Ho was resting his head against the back of his seat, Woo Geun was sleeping on Cheol Ho’s lap, and Gwang Nam was wearing a pink sweater passed out completely, head on the table. Yoo Ji raised an eyebrow with amusement
“Y’all didn't wait for me?” Yoo Ji’s disappointed tone made Shi Jin and Dae Young lull their heads towards her voice. Myung Ju and Mo Yeon looked at her with opposite expressions, Myung Ju was calm, unfazed, while Mo Yeon looked shocked and in disbelief.
“What is this mess? When did these men get here?” Mo Yeon asked.
“Why did you get here so late?” Myung Ju asked Mo Yeon, chewing on the food.
“It's because the night shift barely ended just now.” Mo Yeon replied.
“How did you get here so fast?” Myung Ju addressed Yoo Ji who was standing next to Mo Yeon.
“I was close,” Yoo Ji responded, her eyes never leaving Gwang Nam’s figure. Yoo Ji rounded the table and sat in front of Gwang Nam directly.
“Are these men usually like this?” Mo Yeon questioned, she pointed at the boys like they were aliens, which at this point they were probably drunk enough to think they were aliens.
“Why does our reunion have to look like this?” she paused, her eyes squinting with mild annoyance, “I was going to make a welcome placard with hearts drawn on it and go to the airport.”
“I bought some clothes, and I even put a facial mask on my face.”
“The kimchi stew here is really good.” Myung Ju nodded at Mo Yeon’s rant.
“Why don't you have a bowl?” Myung Ju offered the two girls, Yoo Ji reached over and poured some in an empty bowl.
“Where are you going?” Mo Yeon stopped Myung Ju as she moved to leave.
“I am going back to the unit. I am not on a break.” Myung Ju replied. Yoo Ji watched them as they conversed, she took small sips of the stew, her eyes fleeing to Gwang Nam’s passed out figure every few seconds.
“Why are you leaving by yourself? You should take Sergeant First Class Seo with you.” Mo Yeon stated. Yoo Ji rolled her eyes and softly snorted, ‘yeah, like that will happen’ she thought.
Yoo Ji watched as Shi Jin grabbed the ladle and scooped some of the stew and fed Dae Young as he saluted. Yoo Ji grinned at the hilarious sight.
“It's no nights and 3 days, so I can't take him with me.” Myung Ju told Mo Yeon.
“No nights and how many days now? They must be crazy!” Mo Yeon exclaimed, turning to look at the men and Yoo Ji who started to pour alcohol into her glass.
“The girl that just came in is so pretty.” Shi Jin whispered drunkenly to Dae Young.
“You’ve got to be kidding me?” Mo Yeon moaned as she watched Shi Jin but her exclamation was towards Yoo Ji.
“What? It's free alcohol” Yoo Ji shrugged and drank her shot.
“The girl that just left is way prettier.” Dae Young glanced at Mo Yeon with half-lidded eyes.
“No way! This woman is so much prettier, you know.” Shi Jin refuted. The two drunk men kept their conversation going but Mo Yeon focused on Yoo Ji was behind them
“How did you even know about this?” Mo Yeon asked Yoo Ji.
“Gwang Nam told me yesterday.”
“Don't you have a job?” Mo Yeon scrutinized. Yoo Ji scrunched her nose and gulped a shot.
“I hit a dead end,” she scowled.
“So you’re going to be drinking the rest of the day?” Mo Yeon sarcastically commented.
“Yes, it’s time to celebrate their return” Yoo Ji responded with a chuckle, “I am kidding, I am not going to do that. I have to meet with the detectives to look at the evidence.”
The next day, she got a text message from Gwang Nam telling her that he had gone home the night before, hammered, and needed the morning to recover. So their coffee date was postponed to the afternoon. That was fine with Yoo Ji, she still had a lot of groundwork to do. She had to follow the victim’s sister, Lee Eun Yong, who worked part-time at her parent’s food joint and in a nursing home.
Rae Wook told Yoo Ji that it was useless to follow her when Rae Wook and Hwa Dong had interviewed her; she was crossed off the list because she was too timid and also had an alibi. Yoo Ji insisted that she might lead them to the killer. She works for a nursing home, she must have relations with a nearby coroner in case someone from the elderly dies. That would be her next possible lead, even if Lee Eun Yong wasn’t directly involved with the murder.
Yoo Ji recorded Lee Eun Yong’s movements and how she carried herself. Yoo Ji noticed the slight tremor in the girl’s right hand. Yoo Ji doesn’t recall reading about any illnesses in her file, but not surprising. People go years before they go to a doctor if they have a slight tremor or something wrong with them, especially if they are financially struggling.
Yoo Ji snapped out of her trance staring at empty space now that Lee Eun Yong had disappeared from her when she felt her phone buzz. It was a call from Hye Jin telling her to go back to the station because the boss wanted to talk to her.
“I am assigning you to cover the political dinner between the South Korean and the North Korea Presidents” he stated, not even looking up to make eye contact with her as soon as she opened the door.
“But I am following the Armadillo case that you assigned me” Yoo Ji protested, the case was going very slow, she didn't have any solid leads yet.
“Put it on hold, I want you to cover this. Don't mess it up” he waved his hand, dismissing Yoo Ji’s protest. Yoo Ji took that as her cue to leave. She walked back to her desk and scowled. There are too many leads and too many loose ends. She had to get to the bottom of this case.
Yoo Ji sighed, she’ll have to do what her boss assigned her to do. She started to pull up all the articles detailing the visit and when it will go down. She still had a week until she had to cover it. She knows that the South Korean President will be visiting North Korea tomorrow. Yoo Ji sighed and rested her head against her desk.
“What happened? You sighed like 5 times” Jung Hye Jin asked.
“He assigned me the political dinners on top of the Armadillo Case” she mumbled.
“Wow! He really hates you right now” Hye Jin cringed, “you shouldn't have written that article last year, you wouldn't be in this position” he added.
“It's not my problem one of the shareholders decided to kill their children” Yoo Ji refuted.
“You didn't have to write the article” Hye Jin reminded her, Yoo Ji picked up her head from her desk and narrowed her eyes at the man.
“What happened to freedom of the press? It's not like I slandered them. I wrote what happened” she snapped back.
“And look what happened to you, you got sent to a foreign country for 9 months and then assigned an Armadillo case plus a political dinner that's impossible to get into if you're not well known.” Hye Jin listed.
“I am pretty sure the shareholder’s life in prison is easier than yours right now” he added.
“I know” Yoo Ji whined, slumping back into her chair. Hye Jin looked at her with a pitying smile.
“It's fine, I can do this” Yoo Ji shook her head and said out loud, trying to convince herself. Yoo Ji gathered her stuff and went to the coffee shop she planned to meet Gwang Nam in.
She arrived earlier than Gwang Nam this time, she settled inside the coffee shop and ordered. She sighed as she waited for him to come. She was scrolling through her phone when she heard him pull out the chair that was on the opposite side of her.
“Hey, how was work today?” Gwang Nam’s voice asked. He set his drink down next to hers
“It was fine, I got assigned another article but I can manage”
“What’s it on?”
“Some political dinners.” Yoo Ji waved off, she wasn't interested in that topic.
“The case I am investigating is getting weirder”
“How come?”
“There’s no strong lead suspects and the family looks like it just moved on, like nothing happened” Yoo Ji stared off to the side, pondering what was the deal with the Lee family.
“I am sure you’ll figure it out,” Gwang Nam assured. He smiled at her, she could tell that he was hungover but only because his eyes were still rimmed with red.
“How was the night with the boys?” Yoo Ji asked. Gwang Nam looked confused.
“You came?”
“Yeah the kimchi stew was good” Yoo Ji smirked at Gwang Nam’s confusion.
“Wait, you actually came? Where was I?”
“Passed out on the table” Yoo Ji responded with a grin. Gwang Nam was about to say something when his phone interrupted him.
“Hello,” “yes, sir” “power of unity” Gwang Nam hung up and looked at Yoo Ji as she stared at him with curiosity.
“I have to go” he stated, his face calm but his eyes churned with worry. Yoo Ji wasn't sure what he was worried about.
“Work?” Yoo Ji sipped her drink. Gwang Nam nodded.
“I am sorry” he apologized. Yoo Ji shook her head, waving him off. He can't apologize for his job.
“I’ll text you when I am done. Okay? We still have to go airsofting” Gwang Na promised as he gathered his coat and drink and moved to leave. Yoo Ji nodded and told him to be safe, as he left. She sighed. This didn't last very long. She went back to the police station to work some more.
“Following her wasn't a total waste of time.” Yoo Ji stated as soon as she reached Rae Wook’s desk. He turned towards her and raised an eyebrow.
“She works at a nursing home,” Yoo Ji said with glee.
“So?”
“So? So she probably knows a coroner” Yoo Ji said with a matter of fact voice.
“How in the world did you come to this conclusion?”
“You said that the M.E. said that the body of the victim looked ‘polished’” Yoo Ji rolled her eyes, Rae Wook was too slow.
“Okay and?” Hwa Dong added as he walked to his own desk with a steaming cup of coffee.
“Come on guys! She works at a nursing home, where the elderly will soon die and will need to be buried” Yoo Ji elaborated, waiting for them to catch onto her train of thought. They didn't.
“She knows the coroner, it’s her cousin. Shin Young Won” Yoo Ji handed Rae Wook the coroner’s file.
“How do you do that?” Hwa Dong asked in amazement.
“Don't praise her just yet, this might lead to nowhere” Rae Wook reprimanded, Yoo Ji’s grin faded into a sarcastic glare towards Rae Wook.
“At least, I got us somewhere.”
-Shi Jin went to visit Mo Yeon at the hospital and meets the Chairman then they went to meet Dae Young and Myung Ju in the cafe-
A few days had passed and Yoo Ji was getting ready to sneak into the hotel where they were going to have the political dinner. Okay, that's a lie, she can't sneak in even if she wanted to, the security was going to be airtight and she would not be able to get in, so she used her second best thing, her connections. She called one of the major reporters in the area who she knew would definitely have a place in the press conference. He owed her a favor for helping him cover a story a few years ago. At this point, she can barely remember what he needed help with mostly because so many people owe her favors. It's the nature of her job, connections are everything.
Gwang Nam had come back from his mission and they were able to set a time to go airsofting. They didn't talk about work, well they tried not to on the way.
“How’s the case going?”
“Rae Wook and Hwa Dong are tailing the victim’s family, nothing yet though” Yoo Ji responded.
“I am not as involved as I want to be since I was assigned to another issue too.” Yoo Ji huffed in slight annoyance, tailing is her favorite part of an investigation, but she couldn't participate because she had to get her information and questions ready for the press conference/dinner.
“Are you ready to be obliterated?” Yoo Ji challenged Gwang Nam with a smirk.
“Are you ready to face failure?” Gwang Nam retorted back, as they put on their gears and chose their weapons.
As soon as they were ready and they were given the okay sign to go inside the arena, they both went opposite ways. Yoo Ji wasted no time trying to find a good hiding spot just in case things go south.
Gwang Nam waited with bated breath to hear the sound of the alarm going off to start the official game. The alarm blared throughout the dark arena. Gwang Nam waited and listened to footsteps or any movement. Since they both had goggles, his vision was a little obscured but still better than normal people, since he’s used to them. He has no idea if Yoo Ji is as accustomed to it, so he’ll have to be extra cautious because that counts as a weakness.
Yoo Ji had her gun pointed in front of her, and focused her senses, she zeroed in on hearing since the goggles weren’t allowing her to see much from her peripheral vision. She pivoted on her feet, trying to cover all her sides, it wasn't dark, but it was indoor, so some places had more light than others. She heard a shot near her and she booked it behind drywall. They were the only ones in the arena, they were able to book it for just them two because it's a smaller arena.
She peeked from behind the wall and aimed her gun towards the general direction of where the shot came from. She used the sniper scope on her rifle and looked for Gwang Nam. she spotted movement, she quickly shot at it and hid behind the drywall acting as a shield. For a few seconds she heard nothing and she waited, holding her breath.
The rule of this game is to see how many times they can kill each other. They don't die infinitely, it will take 12 seconds to come back ‘to life’. The timer is attached to the tactical vest, it blocks the guns from shooting at that time through transmitters on the weapons and the vest. Yoo Ji peaked and started moving, she wasn't going to sit in one place for too long.
As they played they stayed on the tip of their toes, no one really gaining an upper hand. As the game progressed, they were getting more competitive and harder to locate. Gwang Nam would get a good shot but she would reciprocate with a shot of her own a minute later. As Gwang Nam reloaded his gun, he thought that she would be a great partner, the only reason he wouldn't entertain that thought longer is that Yoo Ji had already spotted his hiding spot and he had to roll away from her rain of fire.
Yoo Ji kept her guard up the whole 30 minutes that they played. At some point, she forgot how many kills she has, and just focused on shooting the target. He was good, and he had to be. But Yoo Ji was growing frustrated and more competitive than ever.
Yoo Ji hid behind a tall hollow structure, there were cutouts, to mimic windows, she caught his figure darting between two structures. She pivoted to follow his movement and aimed to shoot him as he continued to run between the pillars. Yoo Ji cocked her gun to get a better grip, but after a few seconds he didn't come out. She lowered her arms and started to creep closer. As she turned to corner him with her gun at his chest. She looked up with a smirk, but it slowly faded as she noticed that he had his helmet and goggles off.
“I have to leave,” Gwang Nam stated, keeping eye contact with Yoo Ji.
“Where are you going?” Yoo Ji asked confused, she thought he was off duty for at least two more days.
“I have to go shoot real guns now” Gwang Nam tried to joke, to lighten the mood. Yoo Ji smiled back, she understood, his job was unplanned and had no personal boundaries and that’s okay. She gets that, she has the same drawbacks in her own profession.
“Okay, let’s go, but for the record,” Yoo Ji dismissed feigning leaving, but quickly shot him in the chest, she smirked when he yelped in surprise.
“I win.”
“Oh no, you did not! That was cheating!” Gwang Nam whined, stomping his feet stubbornly. Yoo Ji shook her head, acting like she didn't hear him, she skipped to the exit and started to take off the gear. She stopped midway when she felt his arms wrap around her from the back.
“I am going to get back at you for this later” he murmured in her ear as he buried his head into her shoulders.
“We’ll see about that, Piccolo” Yoo Ji teased.
After they were done giving back the gear and getting their belongings, Gwang Nam dropped Yoo Ji at the police station and went to the base.
Yoo Ji sighed and headed up, she was tired from the game that they played, but there was still time for her to look over some documents. She was hoping Hwa Dong or Rae Wook was still in the office. As soon as she reached their desks, she plopped into an extra chair, and grabbed one of the documents, and flipped through it.
“Jesus Christ, you scared me, why are you here?” Hwa Dong put his hand over his chest. He was caught off guard at Yoo Ji’s figure lounging on his chair. He had gone to make some noodles as a late-night snack as he finished paperwork of a previous case he had finished.
“Something doesn't make sense” Yoo Ji shook her head.
“Shouldn't you be with your boyfriend right now?” Hwa Dong ignored Yoo Ji, he knew that she was just thinking out loud, mostly because multiple times before he had tried to contribute to her thought process but she would cut him off, her brain working too fast or not at all, there's no in-between.
“He had to leave, his job called. How does the coroner make a profit?” Yoo Ji answered offhandedly.
“He makes a profit off the deceased” Hwa Dong answered obviously.
“No, not what I meant” Yoo Ji She waved her hand dismissing his answer.
“When I went around the nursing home, I asked who does the burials and funerals, and they said that Eun Yong has a cousin that does it at no cost for the elderly that have no families.” Yoo Ji recounted from her memory.
“So how does a coroner make a profit when he doesn’t charge from his major source of work?” Yoo Ji pondered out loud.
Hwa Dong dug in the big pile of papers on both his desk and Rae Wook’s, coming up with the background information on the cousin, Shin Young Won. his bank statement, his criminal records, general information like that.
Yoo Ji focused on his bank statements, he doesn't seem to be financially struggling as his cousins.
“He’s been getting big amounts of money from another account,” Hwa Dong analyzed.
“I’ll try to see if we can trace it to the original sender,” he told Yoo Ji as he inputted some kind of data into the computer. Hwa Dong is a detective but he also was very tech-savvy, he knew his way around a laptop and can extract any information he wants. He majored in computer coding when he attended college, but that’s all Yoo Ji knows about his history of messing with computers.
“The money was transferred from an offshore account, but the original sender was from here, Korea,” Hwa Dong paused, letting the data load.
“It looks like its insurance companies” Hwa Doong furrowed his eyebrows, that doesn't make sense, why would insurance companies be sending money to a person whom none of his family members died until recently.
“Insurance fraud?” Yoo Ji and Hwa Dong said simultaneously.

who: avery lee, marley rose, veronica york.
when: sometime after thanksgiving.
where: a coffee shop, then a park.
what: a confusion leads to a very public and dramatic scene, but ends up with three friends made and a tentative couple.
"You will like this place" Marley's smile was warm and bright as she lead Avery to a table inside the small coffee shop. The both of them had taken a break in their days, thankful that Chicago paparazzis weren't big on following people, and had found that little corner to spend some time together. Marley could not be happier that they could hang out, specially after the disaster that was Thanksgiving. "We could come here more often" The brunette pay no attention to the door of the place opening, too content with spending time with Avery to notice her surroundings.
For Veronica, the story was completely different. She was taking on the phone, already brining her own cup of coffee since she hated the cheap version they sold in this sort of places, when her ex-girlfriend had appeared in front of her yes. After everything she put her through for not wanting to move to America, there she was, happily talking with some common looking girl. It made her see red in a second and before she could thought better about it, Veronica went closer to their table. "How dare you to be here? How the fuck do you have the audacity to move here after fucking everything?" She knew she was making an scene, but she couldn't care less. "Was all of that a lie? Were you coward enough to lie just so you could get ride of me? Are you that fucking low?"
Although she had been living in Chicago for a while now with the rest of the group, she hadn't really had the time to sightsee, to find a restaurant or coffee shop that could brighten up her darkest days. When she mentioned that to Marley, it was almost as if a spark had lit up within her, her eyes had brightened and she'd gotten so excited to take her that she couldn't help but smile as well and allow the older girl to show her her favorite place. It was nice, of course, quite quaint but homey all at the same time. As much as she liked the Rose family - even the troubled younger Rose - Avery would much rather spend her time with Marley; they just clicked in every way and she never found herself wanting to be elsewhere.
They'd been laughing at one of Avery's on-stage mishaps when a woman came up to their table and started berating her. Her smile quickly faded and her brows furrowed as the woman cursed, making a scene in the quaint café. "I..." Avery trailed off, unsure of what to do. "I apologize, ma'am, but I think you've confused me with someone else." Avery was shocked, looking around the café and hoping no one would take out their phone and snap a picture of the moment. She was unsure if this was some paparazzi trick or if Felicia had put her up to this as a prank of some sort; it seemed like the sort of dark humor Felicia would find amusing. "Would you like to take this outside, ma'am?"
Veronica couldn't believe the nerve that Hye-Jin had to deny knowing her. Was it because of the girl she was with? If Vero was someone else, she would for sure believe the sincere confusion on her face, but she had been around her ex-girlfriend enough to know that she was the best actress in the world. It was making her anger boil and as soon as the words came out of Hye-Jin's lips, Vero's hand found life on it's own, landing right on her ex girlfriend's right cheek.
The place stayed in complete silence.
"You can play stupid as much as you want Hye-Jin, but absolutely everyone here is gonna know the utter piece of crap you are. Specially that stupid girl that you are tricking. What has she told you about me?" Her eyes moved to Marley. "That I was the insane ex that wanted to bring her to America? What excuse did she make to be here after she lead me on for five fucking years?"
Marley didn't understand what was happening, but she only knew that she was too stunned to reply to anything that the other girl had said apart from "Her name is Avery" She whispered lightly, hiding her lips.
Although the impact of the other woman's hand against her cheek hurt, it was her sister's name falling from her lips that made Avery tear up. She and Hye-Jin had been inseparable growing up - sisters, best friends, partners in crime. "Ji-Hyunya" Avery would hear her say, the youngest Lee allowing herself to be vulnerable, "- we'll always be best friends, right?" Avery wanted to keep that promise, but with the time difference, Hye-Jin's growing resentment that she wasn't in America and was in South Korea instead, and all of their inabilities to travel for years thereafter... well, needless to say, they hadn't been in contact in years. Avery had been twenty years old the last time she'd been in Korea; neither her mother nor her sister wanted to talk to her, neither of them ever said they were proud of her.
Hye-Jin had been bitter and resentful; it was no surprise that she'd hurt the woman before her.
Avery was broken out of her thoughts when she heard Marley whisper something, her cheek now hot both from the pain and embarrassment. Marley had witnessed all of this. She sighed, looking around the café and shaking her head when she noticed someone had pulled their phone out. Avery hoped that Mr. Harrison would be understanding and wouldn't punish her if this were to be posted online.
Sniffling, Avery pulled her ID from her purse, showing it to the woman. The woman was clearly hurt, angry, and everything in between; she hoped this would help her see that she'd gotten the wrong twin. "Hye-Jin is my twin sister" Avery said in her native tongue, feeling quite odd about speaking in Korean to someone other than her father, "she lives in Korea with my mother. I'm Ji-Hyun. I'm guessing she and mother never spoke about me." She quickly switched back to English, so Marley would understand what was happening. "I'm sorry my sister hurt you."
Veronica had never loved anyone in the way that she had loved Hye-Jin. Her entire heart beat for the other girl and then sun shinned because of her; she was everything Veronica wanted and loved, just to be taken away in a second. The other girl had never felt the same, not as strongly, but she was drawn to her like a fly, being too close to the fire but being unable to move away.
Avery, the other girl had called her and she had to smile, thinking in how the lies had gotten even bigger with time, until she was actually pulling an ID that said the same. It did not make sense, a twin sister?. Since fucking when? Neither Hye-Jin or her mother had mentioned anything, but it was true. "That doesn't make any sense" She was so confused, hurt and embarrassed and she now couldn't help but see the way some people were recording everything that was happening. "I... I'm so sorry"
Marley had stayed away from the whole thing, unsure in how to react, but it was enough. Surely, the girl stood up and made her way to Avery, softly pressing her hand against the other's arm. "I think it's best if we leave, Av" Her eyes moved to the other girl, trying her best to offer some kind of smile. "Since this has all being a misunderstanding, I think it would be for the best if we talked in a more private space. Would you like to come with us?"
Avery could see a million emotions in the other woman's features and she couldn't help but feel for her, knowing Hye-Jin had continued the life she'd built as a bulldozer with no regrets - running over everything in her path and leaving nothing but destruction behind. When Marley said it was time to leave, Avery nodded and slowly stood up as she took a deep breath, knowing that since she was a public figure, she needed to do some damage control. "I apologize for the misunderstanding" she apologized softly, though loud enough for the patrons and employees at the coffee shop to hear, "everyone's meals are on me." She made her way to the register and pulled out five one-hundred dollar bills, handing them to the cashier. "- for the inconvenience and ruckus I've caused. I apologize. It won't happen again." As always, she took blame for everything; she'd been taking the blame for Hye-Jin's antics since birth... why not continue it now?
Walking over to the other two brunettes, she plastered a small smile on her features and motioned toward the door. She and the woman had much to talk about, but she felt much safer and comfortable with Marley there - she hoped the older woman would stick around, though she wouldn't blame her if she chose to go home instead after witnessing everything. "There's a park nearby or we can go to my apartment." She couldn't look at the other woman in the eyes anymore. Avery didn't want to see the pain and hurt again. "Are you free, Marley?" she asked, hoping she would say yes but giving her an out if she didn't want to join them, "or do you have a writing session this afternoon?"
Marley watched as Avery went to pay for everything, smiling softly at the antics of the other girl. It was just an Avery thing to worry about everyone's level of comfort, when she was the one who had being slapped just moments before. "Is she saying the truth?" Veronica's voice brought her back to where she was and nod, sighing lightly. "She is Avery, I can tell you that for sure. I also knew that she had a twin back home" Av had mentioned her in passing, nothing too specific and now Marley saw why. "I'm sorry you had to go through this."
Veronica didn't understand how these girls could be so nice to her after what had just happened. They had no fault in whatever messed up situation she lived with Hye-Jin, and now she had publicly embarrassed this Avery girl for nothing. Yet, neither of them were screaming or hating, but offering her an understanding she wasn't sure she deserved. "A park would be alright" Being out in the public would give her some kind of patience to deal with this whole thing.
Marley was surprised that Avery would even ask that, considering she had no intention to go anywhere. "I have nowhere else to be, don't worry about it" Slowly, Marley took her hand and intertwined their fingers, giving it a little squeeze to show her support. She would be burning red in another situation, but there was no time to those sort of things. "Let's go then"
Even though Avery was still embarrassed and her cheek was still warm from where the woman had slapped her, she couldn't help the genuine smile that pulled at the corner of her lips when she felt Marley intertwine their fingers. It was just what she needed right at this moment, something to ground her, especially since she knew she was about to have a tough conversation with a woman who'd been hurt by her twin sister. As they walked to the park in silence, her hand still in Marley's, she thought back on the woman's words and pursed her lips as she remembered her mentioning her sister leading her on for five years. Five years. The woman wanted Hye-Jin to move to America with her, but her sister had refused and Avery couldn't help but wonder why. Avery sighed at the thought and led the other women to an empty picnic table nearby.
Before the woman spoke, Avery cleared her throat so she could speak first. She knew the woman would probably apologize again, though there was no need for that. Avery understood where she was coming from. "My father and I left South Korea when I was young. I've lived here since then - well, Los Angeles, not Chicago. Hye-Jin remained with my mother in Busan and then moved to Seoul years later after mother got a promotion. As we grew up, we drifted apart. Hye-Jin was bitter that I was here, I suppose, that I was living my dream... she became someone I couldn't recognize. She resented how our lives had turned out." Under the table, she reached for Marley's hand again, giving it a squeeze before she addressed the woman across from them again.
"I haven't spoken to Hye-Jin in years. I'm not surprised she hurt you, though. She always hurt the people closest to her. I apologize for that. You seem like a lovely woman and I... well, you don't deserve whatever she did." She paused, smiling as she held out her hand. They hadn't even had time for introductions. "Lee Ji-Hyun. Avery, here in the States. I wish we'd met under different circumstances."
Veronica wanted nothing but to run away as fast as she could from these two girls, specially from the one that looked so much to the girls that haunted her nightmares. She thought she was over the whole thing, a horrible thing that happened in the past, but the way that she had reacted told another story completely. The girl was still hurt, maybe she always would be, for what Hye-Jin did to her. It wasn't only the way it ended, between screams and angry words, but the way the other had always thought about what they had as nothing permanent. She always knew Veronica would move to America and she never said anything, until there was a ring and a proposal and the only word that came out of her lips was no.
The walk to the park was silent, her eyes moving from the floor to the way the other two walked beside one another. They seemed happy with each other and Veronica was happy that at least, Avery had some sort of support in this horrible moment. Why were all those people taking pictures of her? God, what have she done? She didn't have time to wonder about it, because then Avery was telling her story and it all made sense in a way it never did before. That was the reason, and it only made Veronica more ashamed of what she had done, specially when the other girl seemed to be nothing but extremely nice. She couldn't help but stare at the hand that was offered, in complete disbelief that she could be forgiven that easily. "I slapped you" Her voice was strained and she could barely keep it together. "I hurt you and you are so nice, god, I'm so sorry" The sob came out of her lips without her being able to stop it. "You... You just looked like her and I embarrass you in front of all those people"
Marley couldn't help but feel incredibly sorry for the stranger girl and she could do nothing but stand up and wrap her arms around her, eyes moving over her head to see Avery. "It was... Not very nice of you, but Avery is fine. Everything is fine, we understand, right?
Avery shook her head when the woman apologized, hoping that she wouldn't continuously beat herself up over a simple mistake and misunderstanding. There were a lot pieces missing so Avery couldn't put the whole picture together yet, but she knew that the woman had been hurt tremendously by her sister; she couldn't blame her for seeing red as soon as she saw the face that had hurt her. "You don't have to apologize" she tried reassuring her, though she knew it would take more than simple words to get her to change her mind, "I know she hurt you. You saw me and thought I was her and you just reacted. Anyone would've done the same thing."
A smile pulled at her lips as Marley got up to comfort the woman, nodding at her words and offering the woman a small smile. "Everything is fine, I promise. We understand." She realized that some people were looking at them, and she couldn't help but sigh. This was going to be everywhere. If it wasn't because she had been slapped at the café, it would be because she was holding hands with Marley. Again, she had to hope Mr. Harrison would be understanding.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" Avery asked, though she didn't really want to hear what her sister and mother had been up to. Then again, she wanted to make the woman comfortable and distract her, hoping she wouldn't notice people around the park looking at them.
Veronica felt better in Marley's arm, feeling a comfort she hadn't let herself get since the whole incident happen. Once her proposal had been denied, she had gotten all her stuff and flight away alone, leaving her old life behind. Friends, family; everything that could remind her to Hye-Jin was left forgotten in the back of her mind, ready to never be brought up. Here in America, it was all about her work and the new friends she had made at work, nothing else. Still, these two girls had opened a door that needed to be open.
"I asked her to marry me and she said no" It was hard to look at Avery when she said it, but Veronica did her best. Beside her, she felt Marley's eyes holding her a little bit tighter. "She said she would never move to America and I didn't know why but... I guess I know now" She cleaned her tears with the back of her hand, trying to compose herself a bit. "I didn't even now you existed and I'm just... So sorry to both you and your girlfriend. I really am"
Marley's cheek went from normal to red in an instant, but she gave Veronica a warm smile. "It's fine, there is really nothing to be worried about. We have all cleared the air" She refused to look Avery, probably because she would combust if she did. "But we should warn you about... There may be some reporters that will come to ask you things at some point"
Avery sighed, recognizing how hard it must be to talk about Hye-Jin when she looked the same as her. In some ways, she felt guilty. Guilty because she'd been so wrapped up in wanting her dream to come true that she immediately jumped at the opportunity to live in America. Guilty because her father wanted her dream to come true as well, but he knew how hard it was to become a pop star in Korea. Guilty because she wouldn't change her mind, no matter how many times her mother and sister begged her to stay and begged her to get her father to change his mind. Guilty because she left them behind. Guilty because she was thriving.
Cursing her fair skin, Avery felt her cheeks and ears heat up at the assumption that Marley was her girlfriend. Neither of the two corrected the woman, and Avery didn't know what to make of it. Instead, she nodded. "You really should stop apologizing, you know? It's not your fault. We've cleared the air and I know why you did what you did. I know what happened. I know what led you to see red when you saw my face. I'm okay with it." Her cheeks were still warm, her ears felt like they were on fire. As much as she wanted to comfort the woman, she couldn't help but wonder if she and Marley actually did look as if they were in a relationship.
"Ah, yeah..." clearing her throat, she looked around and frowned. People were still looking at them. "Everything will end up online in a few hours. You'll be recognized, I'm sure. I apologize for that. I'll talk to my manager and boss and hope to put a statement out by tonight. Just, uh... make your social media accounts private for a while, yeah?"
Veronica knew that her confusion and shook were presented and showing on her face, mostly because she didn't understand what they meant. Marley kept looking around to the people that was looking at them, but Vero didn't understand why other people would be hating her over this. "What? What would it end up online?"
Marley was a bit surprised that the other girl didn't recognize Avery, but she guessed not everyone was too into the pop scene. "Avery is part of a band and they are very well known. They are actually really good" She couldn't help but flash a grin at her friend, or well, her girlfriend apparently. "Sometimes fanbases are a bit harsh so that's why we are telling you this. We wouldn't want this to be a problem for you"
Veronica was surprised and managed to make a little bit of smile. "That's really nice. I didn't know, I'm sorry again. I'm... I work as a classic pianist and I don't really listen to music with actual lyrics. That's kind of why I'm on the loop"
Avery could feel the tips of her ears burn when Marley mentioned that the group was 'really good', clearing her throat as she tried not to smile too wide. "She's being modest, you know..." she trailed off, though she kept her eyes on Marley the entire time, "she's one of the reasons we've become so popular. Everyone seems to love the lyrics she writes for us." She couldn't help but gush; maybe she'd make Marley blush too. Avery couldn't help but sigh after a moment, though. "I'll try to calm the masses, I promise."
She perked up slightly when she mentioned piano. "I played piano for a while, until I was eighteen or so and everything was kicking off for me professionally." She wondered what had brought her to Chicago, of all places, but didn't ask. They barely knew one another. "I'm impressed. Piano is... difficult."
Unsure of what to do about the situation, she debated with herself for a moment but stayed put. It would probably make things worse to try to comfort her, especially since she looked like her ex. "I hope we can at least be acquaintances?" She asked, her tone showing she hoped for just that. "I know it could be difficult for you and I'd understand if you'd rather not, but... I think we can get along."
Marley was surprised to hear Avery mentioning her being modest but the rest of her explanation made her blush instantly. "I try to write my best lyrics for you guys" God, what was she doing? Flustering so hard for comments that her friend made on daily basis, but now with other person present, it felt completely different.
Veronica thought it was sweet, that the two girls were so into each other. It was literally obvious for everyone that would see it from the outside. "It is difficult, but I've been playing since I was five, so I barely notice it anymore" The keys were part of her now, just like her fingers were. In fact, sometimes, she felt incomplete when she was away from her instrument.
"I'd like that" Her smile became more sincere, letting out a sigh of relief. "I know we don't know each other but you have been really kind about all of this. You both have" Veronica turned to look at Marley, offering her a smile as well. "I'd like to have some friends here in Chicago"
Avery couldn't help the small smile that pulled at the corner of her lips when she realized Marley had gotten as flustered as her by a compliment, a few words that she'd said to her before. She glanced at the other woman, wondering if this exchange made her believe even more that she and Marley were dating - a fact that she didn't mind.
"Maybe we can play something together?" Avery chuckled at her own suggestion, adding, "-though I can't promise I'll actually be good." Even though they'd met through unfortunate circumstances, the hope for a new friend made her smile. "We can hang out. I may not know Chicago as well as I know LA, but I can try to show you around." She reached across the table and squeezed her hand softly, "You have two friends here. I promise."
