#and now my car registration is coming due

I had hoped to file taxes. Not because I have to. I definitely didn’t make enough to be required to file.
But, just in the small chance I’d be owed something for itemized deductions, since all my work was independent contractor type.
I couldn’t get it done, though. Too overwhelming. Too much information to try to wrestle. Too much stress and uncertainty. Too exhausted.
Too exhausted.
So now the opportunity is gone and the guilt is here.
The guilt is here. Forever and ever, and oh how it grows.
#personal#I used all the money I saved for my car#to help pay our overdue electric bill#and now my car registration is coming due#and my mom won't let me just sell or scrap the damn thing#sitting broken down for two fucking years#completely fucking trapped and isolated#and now I'm supposed to pull $200 out of my ass#to renew registration on a car that doesn't run#and that no one will fucking fix#what's the fucking point#I'm sick I'm hungry I'm tired I'm poor and it never gets better

Sol Venat/Sunryder x reader
my first transformers fic and its a x reader cause im in love with my OC!(totally chill about it btw)
Anyways Enjoy!! <333
Word count: 3664
Warnings: N/A
Off on an alien planet inhabited by being so small and less advanced. It didn't help that the life forms were squishy and frivolous. Sol Venat was a giant compared to them. Luckily for her humans were advanced enough to create automobiles, sure they weren't sentient so a holo-form was required to ease suspicion. There was only so much Sunryder could do with the holo-form especially since she needed a “drivers license”. She learned her first lesson by leading police on a high speed chase before being rammed and flipped by officers. She ended up being impounded and Sun was forced to scan a rusty lemon car due to the severity of the damage. Sunryder headed west driving cautious and in ignorant bliss.
Sunryder had finally learned her lesson to never get caught, she observed the interactions between police and civilians. It was no problem picking them out, their feedback was louder than the civilians' vehicles.
The second time sunryder decided to pull over, she was stumped by things like “Insurance” and “registration” but the charade soon fell apart when her holoform failed and the fleshie freaked and unsure of how to proceed took off. This action set off another police chase.
Currently Sol was donning a far more roomier, curvier car model than the usual sharper, sleeker models. The metallic brown was a new color she hadnt had before. Baking under the sun in a parking lot of one of many human energy refuel stations that littered the Earth's surface. This wasn't how Sunryder saw her living out her days of refuge on this dirt planet. Especially as some humans glorified chauffeur.
Being a ‘daily’ as you had nicely put it, made the days blend together. Two years of car watching, driving, parking, getting rained on or cooking under the hot sun. Sunryder did it all patiently like any normal car would.
You always felt bad leaving Sunryder outside all day and you could only go outside for a “smoke break” so many times. You had suggested Sun just drop you off and drive wherever she wanted as long as she came back to pick you up. Which she had tried but normally Sun found herself either waiting in the parking lot or harassing drive thru cashiers with fake orders. You caught Sunryder in your drive thru speaker after hitting you pen three times. Luckily no one was around to witness you chase her away as she laughed, speeding off with no driver in the seat.
Now Sunryder just waited for you to get off. She wasn't the flashiest car in the lot, a Nissan Altima. It was the model of your first car when yall had first met. That meeting was sudden as it was jarring, and most certainly terrifying. Coming in contact with extraterrestrial life was never on your radar.
Late into the night you were returning from work. Turning at a blinking yellow light, double checking, then triple checking before taking the turn. Halfway through you were suddenly blinded by headlights. Soon you were spinning. Arms braced for impact as the tires squealed and the smell of burning rubber filled the cabin. A ringing filled your ears as you looked around, seeing an intact dashboard surprised you. It was a hard enough hit to jump start your hazards. Now you have to see the damage the other car inflicted.
Turning the wheel you cringed as you ease off the brakes, you had half expected for the engine to fall out. It didn't. You heard some scrapping but managed to pull into a nearby parking lot. You noticed the other car waited a long few minutes before following. Shaking, you watch the car and with sweaty hands you pick out your insurance. You parked under one of the many streetlights.
You waited thinking the driver was pissed, ready to storm your car. It was late, in the middle of an abandoned parking lot by yourself and you told nobody what had happened. You debated whether to call the cops or not. Adrenaline ran through you as you threw your seatbelt off and opened your car door carrying your phone with you.
The driver parked facing you, the lights barely illuminating the black finish of an old school Chevrolet Impala that looked completely blacked out. Which probably explains why you couldn't see them. Now that car was parked with headlights right in your eyes. Walking to the drivers side, your eyes darted around you. Confirming that you were completely alone.
“Hey! Are you- like- okay?” you looked back at your car seeing the crumpled passengers side door but it was clearly still drivable. You look back and knock just barely seeing the driver's outline. You cross your arms side eyeing the lack of damage and attitude from the lack of an ‘Are you okay?’. They could've at least gotten out of the car.
You start to walk away. “Whatever! I'm calling the cops dude!” you yell, pulling up your phone to start dialing. Your finger hesitated above the screen, you didn't hear the first hiss behind you.
After a succession of metal scraping and car hissing made you jerk. Looking behind you watch in horror as a panel on the hood pops up. Eyes widened as you backed away from the offending vehicle. The car was just falling apart, right?
“Nuh-uh!” you yell as you stared as you tried to make sense of what was happening in front of you. The car expanded, the exterior panels lifting to expose cables underneath. Then two arms emerged pushing the car further from the ground more and more of a body became clear in the tangle of metal. Sparks flew as claw nails extended towards you. Jumping back you hit the front of your car. A squeal bubbled from the back of your throat as your brain reverted to survival mode, climbing on top of your hood. Unable to take your eyes off the “car”, it didn't make any sense, cars don't dismantle on their own and reassemble into a robot. You heard the blood rush through your ears as you scramble
“Please.” you wheeze out “Please! I'll do whatever you want!” you pleaded, peaking at the monstrosity towering above you.
“What are you?” you ask squishing yourself against the top of your car as the hulking figure trapping you from escaping. Your heartbeat pounded in your chest and you wanted many things, for this to be a dream stuck in a coma from the crash, or a government experiment gone wrong. What squeezed the breath from your lungs was the horror of it following you. The robotic arms came crashing down on her car, crunching the metal of the hood as you kicked to go higher.
“Are…you injured, human.” you heard a feminine robotic voice interrupt the blood roaring in your ears. You gasp for breath, like a bucket of ice being dumped on you. Opening your eyes, preparing to see razor sharp rotating teeth, the jaws of death ready to take you from this earthly plane.
As you looked up, the rotating jaws of grinding teeth didn't greet you but a humanoid looking face. Large glowing blue eyes, with high cheekbone- or what could be its equivalent- then your eyes slipped to the mouth. What you thought was your demise now intrigued when you saw full lips they stayed in a neutral position. It was made of metal but was it just a mindless robot? You didn't have time to decipher when you remembered that it spoke to you. The fear rose as a scream erupted from your mouth as black enveloped your vision.
Sol Venat looked down at the limp human she managed to pin to the top of the car. Carefully, Sol picked you up, using both hands to better support your head. With unsteady hands Sol laid you on the ground feet first. Humans from what she gathered were fragile, complex organisms and freakishly squishable. No jagged edges dug into Sol as she moved you through earlier, your face morphed into a twist of flesh and screams erupting from your unnaturally wide mouth- a shudder ran down her back as she looked back to the damaged car.
“Oh my GOD! You're real! This is real.” your head reels from the new positions laying at the feet of the creature. The giant robot snapped its head down at you. Your head spun looking behind the thing to your car then to its glowing eyes. The lights behind it casted both of y'all in shadow. You couldn't believe you haven't had a heart attack yet. you scoot back, looking to see an empty road.
“WAIT!” it jerked towards you, large hands jumped towards you. The night was silent except for your heavy breathing. Sol looked down at you, seeing the majority white of your eyes.
“Wait,” it whispered as you backed away, It crouched down getting closer to you. “Just wait.” A large hand was placed on the ground. You look up, debating the insanity of the situation. First you lay down, looking up at the sky, with a car destroyed you had better chances just going along but the rationalizing wasn't making your body cooperate as it still shook like you were freezing and you could hear your heartbeat.
“What- what do you want?” you asked, sitting up, your legs wobbled as you slowly stood to your full height. You still did not reach the robot's face, your head barely reached its shoulder equivalent.
“Are you injured?” its head turned to the side. Your eyes adjusted to the darkness. You heard gears shifting under the panels, the metal that covered its entire body except for the connecting joints that were just bunches of cables. You look back to its face.
Shaking your head, “I'm…fine?” you couldn't help it sounding like a question. Is this something both driver and car? There goes insurance, what you could do against a towering metal figure. “What are you? You're not from here, are you?”
Moments of silence stretched between y'all. “You gonna answer?” you ask. Like damn, it gives you the fright of your life then questions you. Now it doesn't want to talk back. Ya no. you cross your arms, tapping your foot, looking expectantly.
“I am not from this planet, human.” Was it sentient or just AI? You couldn't believe this was happening. This had to be a government test to see how civilians would react to futuristic technology. Perhaps to be used in war. You took a step back, fear gripping you once again. “I come from a dead planet far from here. Call me a visitor, alien or foreign invader but I mean you no harm.”
Mouth agape you couldn't remove your eyes from its- her? Mean no harm? It-she? Referring to itself in first person it could be remote controlled. You scanned the top of its head looking for any thin antennas, nothing but four symmetrical spikes protruding from each side of its head.
You needed a better look, you had to see exactly what would end your life.
“What are you? Who are you? Alien?” you slowly make your way closer. The eyes follow you, as you don't break eye contact a heavy pause hangs in the air between the two of you. Headlights made both of yall jump, trying to hide behind the row of trees yards away. You stare at the robot crouching near the ground then to the car that zoomed by unbeknownst to them, an alien was in the parking lot of a strip mall. You deduce that it wasn't government equipment meant to be used on civilians.
“Why are YOU hiding?” the metal giant bent its head to look down at you. “You’re revealing yourself to me.” it was a genuine question, but it came out harsher and the giant stood to its full height. Far surpassing the height of the adolescent trees it had to well over 20 feet. You didn't even reach its knees. It took a step towards you, covering the light letting the darkness envelope you. Gasping, you trip taking a step back.
“I am Sol Venat from the planet Cybertron.” The Alien, Sol Venat, kneeled in front of you. Looking up at her, large glowing blue eyes with geometric irises with razor sharp lashes, a straight nose and full lips. Her whole face was a metal gray and a black helmet with four antenna-like rods and a front flat plate with a triangle top and one cut on the bottom. On each side of her face, cut triangles on each side of her mouth. Sol Venat had one of the prettiest faces you’ve ever seen. Suddenly the car doors that mimicked butterfly wings were very interesting. But you met Sol Venat eyes when she spoke. “What do you plan on doing with this information, human?”
You couldn't help but catch the distaste in that last word. You feel it transfer to your face, a curled lip and arms crossing.
“First of all, you hit me. I had the clear and you were clearly speeding. If you're gonna do whatever you want, try not to risk anyone's life but your own. Two! What do you mean?! I can't do shit with that? You think people will believe me? You could kill me if you wanted to. I'm sure…” you lost gusto when you realized what exactly you had just said. Taking a step back from Sol Venat. You risk a glance to her eyes, your heart raced and your breathing restricted.
“You can calm down, your heart is racing. I'm not going to hurt you.” Sol Venat leaned away from you, she mirrored your wide eye look.
“Right.” You try to relax and turn to look at your car taking in the state. It was the back of the car that was damaged but still drivable. Your dad will notice. Who knows what is going to happen with your insurance or how much the damage will cost out of pocket. “Why reveal yourself to me? It doesn't make any sense, you could have just left.” you look up.
“Momentary panic.” Sol said coolly. “I had to check on you, human.” Sol crossed her arms.
You fixed your lips to say something. But your brain stopped your mouth to think that it was actually really sweet that a random car- Alien would stop to see if you're okay even if it was easier to drive away. Instead of running she pulled over, maybe that was the hesitation you saw.
“I mean-” your face flushes as you let out a chuckle, “im okay. Thanks for staying.” you play with the loose gravel on the ground. “You wouldn't have insurance would you?” your shoulders sag once you saw the grimace on her face.
“So…what are you gonna do now?” you try to ask casually, though it came out shaky and unsure while tears ran down your face. With shaking hands you open your phone. Now you had to figure out how to explain the damage.
“Why are you leaking lubricant from your eyes?” Sol bent down, a curious wide eye stare as she inspected your face.
“Are you- why?” your voice broke as sobs came from you. You were able to drive into the lot but now the wheels looked like they’d fall off just by giving it a wrong look. “My car is crushed and undrivable. How do I explain this to my dad?” you couldn't help yourself when you collapsed on Sol Venat's forearm crying into the hard metal.
Sol Venat looked down as you sobbed into her arms. Something picked at her spark, her climbing all over your car definitely didn't help. Sol thought, milling through any kind of solutions she could find.
“I can be your car for however long you need.” it popped out as soon as it entered the processor.
“What?” you look up red eyed and snot nosed. “Be my car but how-”
“Find a way to get rid of it-”
“It!?” you yell, removing yourself from Sol’s embrace. “She had a name, a life before you killed her.” you kick the ground, the bottom of your shoe scrapping the concrete. “[car name] was my first car! She was my sisters!” you grip your head, trying to not throw an absolute tantrum. Though you were still acting like a brat, you decided to give yourself some grace looking at the situation. “Can you, YOU!” you yell through gritted teeth, pointing a finger up at her, shaking. “You said- UGH!” your head hurt trying not to lose it, you had to get rid of her cause some alien robot said so. You didn't even know how to get rid of it.
“Human.” Sol said, the tone of voice made a shiver run down her spine as you turned to look up at her.
“Yes.” you said breathless watching a hand come down behind you, and gently scooped you up.
“Ease your processor. I will scan your vehicle, take its place.”
“Human.” you huffed, feeling really awkward with your legs dangling and hands braces on her sharp fingers. “I don't say alien.”
“Then what is your name, human?” there was an amused tone at the end and you raised an eyebrow. Sol leaned in fast startled you, causing the grip to loosen. You let out a loud yelp as you tightened your hold on her fingers.
“Are you done?” you say hiding your face in her hand, unable to see the amused expression. “I’m [Y/N]. Please dont let me fall.” you cry out, you could feel your sweaty hands starting to slip.
“So demanding for such a small thing,” you could feel her move her thumb to push your face forward, the palm loosening around you. She was trying to kill you.
“Please!” You kick your feet, scrabbling for purchase. “Please.” your thoughts of falling to death made it hard to breathe.
“Oh you poor thing.” Sol cooed cradling you before setting you flat on your feet. Your head is spinning as nausea rushes over you. Now you shook harder. You wanted to go home now, sleep this nightmare away.
“Don't ever pick me up again.” you smooth down your clothes, and grab your phone that miraculously didn't fall during the whole ordeal. You mulled over the thought of who to call. You had a cousin that worked in a junkyard and had a truck. Sol watched you examine her, eyes running from the tires at her heel to the rods in her helm. “You're gonna have to disappear, here i'll give you my address then i'll meet you after getting rid of [Car name]. We’ll plan the funeral later, there's no time to mourn about it now.”
Sol let out a loud sigh and rolled her eyes before fixing her gaze to the crashed vehicle. You watched as Sol got down at her ‘hands’ as her body twisted and turned. The metal clicking together to reform the blacked out Impala.
“Too bad.” you say walking up to the hood, “I would love to see how you drive. The color looks gorgeous. But [Car Name] has sparkles in the paint.” a smug look was plastered on your face.
“Too bad it won't be the same engine.” you raise an eyebrow, trying to see where she was talking out of. There didnt seem to be any speakers or notches in the hood. The front looked normal. Weird. You're gonna figure that out.
“You go fast?” you had to bite the wide smile from overtaking your face. You didn't consider yourself a danger on the road, like the huge truck drivers that only ever haul the fat in their ass or the senior citizen drivers that come in a variety of ages. Speed was your only demon.
“I can.” Sol said, pride shining in her voice. “But that attracts attention. The opposite of what I need.”
“Aw.” you couldn't hide the disappointment. That really means Sol would do most of the driving, and while you really couldn't complain, having a personal driver, not having to pay for gas were great. But that's what you loved about driving, feeling the rumble of the engine under your foot, and the wind roaring through the window. It was when your stomach dropped and flips when you started to edge the line between losing control and maintaining the wheel. When you fly past every other car on the road, cutting up traffic with your music blasting. “At least you’ll look like my ol’ girl.”
“Your ol’ girl.” you heard her snicker behind you.
“You don't get to laugh murderer!” you snap. That shut her up. The hard look on your face melted into a guilty frown. You turn away from Sol, looking at the crumple mess of your beloved car. “You should go, I have to make a call. Here's my address.” you showed her on your phone.
“Right. There's something I need to do first.” it was hard to tear your eyes away, a hollow feeling filling up in your chest but you saw a blue light emit from the insignia and scan over your car a few times. Then more and more of Sol's black panels switch to a Java brown. Your eyes soften and tears well. Instead of the square body of the old Impala. It was more curvy, midsize with roomy trunk space. Even though [Car Name] didn't have tinted windows, you bit your tongue to keep quiet. Instead you watched the full transformation, truly amazing to witness such advanced technology. “I'll see you there.”
With that you watched her drive off. The roar of her engine sounds off in the empty street and she disappears into the dark of the night. Now it's time to get rid of the only ride you have ever called your own. Opening up your phone again, you had a call to make.
The end.

im. literally so sick of being poor. im treated like nothing at my job, im barely scraping by to be able to afford to live, and there's still so much i want to be able to do but i just cant. i will probably never own a car, let alone a house. ill just be bound to wage slavery forever, teetering on the brink of not being able to pay rent.
did you know i have a bachelor's degree in computer graphics? i dual-majored in video game development and 3d animation. i spent four years of my life on that shit. i graduated two years ago now and not once out of the hundreds of jobs that ive applied to have i ever gotten a word back. completely ghosted. an automated message at best. "entry level position, 3-5 years experience required, 2.5k other applicants" like fuck off. still doesnt make me feel like i havent shot myself in the foot repeatedly. hell, im not even fucking good enough for stuff outside of my degree. not even local jobs that just pay a couple bucks more than where im at now. i spent thousands of dollars trying to get across the country and ruined my truck beyond repair banking on the gamble that id have an easier time finding a job only to have nothing better than what i could've had before. literally the only two good things to have come out of moving were access to a hema club and coming out as trans. and even those feel unsustainable. equipment, dues, registration fees, travel accommodations, new clothes, hrt, doctors appointment fees, it all adds up but without it id be in an even shittier place.

We left messages for Amanda and Debbie in Executive. Do you need their numbers? I prefer Amanda.
She helped with the airbnb bank fraud last year.
I need refunds on all scams now Paige. You and Amanda settle this tonight. Judges want current bank statement to so they can forgive debts from local scams at court/bank & Sheriff- who got busted on foul play.
Thanks!
Nitya
Yeah- California is the abortion & rape = baby factory State!
Could you please confirm this is a fake check? Sal has made mistakes before and seems sort of senile about continuum with BBVA since he's so new! Please let Idyllwild Town Crier know to stop Trafficking our peeps on Cons. They shouldn't advertise this and a murderer sex offender in one week right?
Could you send latest statement for my judges so they can forgive my registration fees due to PNC management robberies in covid with Mary Sue Haney.
This was bank fraud there. We don't trust the 22.7m federal employees raping our mothers and stealing. Please fire Sal.
Sent to my boss Sue-
Sal- the manager said it was a fake check and refused to cash it! He's a a**hole! I had to get Jerry Sue Haney fired. Do you want executive number? He's likely a fraud- not your check! Lol
I will let executive office know. He's also had a senior moment about my last 7 years of banking there.
Lmk if you can call them & fix it with Wells Fargo? Also- I mentioned I can't launder money in any way on the rental. I am on a state stipend- not enough- but they would've withdrawn my food and pay if they thought there was a way to Capitalism on us again!

Aloha! You got all my responses via text? Did you get a place secured here? Are you still coming on 20th?
I'm moving into a new place & seeing Dr's but will be available.
Lmk if you need anything and did you send check? I didn't see anything last week! You said you'd send tracking too so maybe didn't get to it?
I am most often texting. Email isn't as reliable. Maybe I'll open another acct. Tmobile also is spotty in Riverside.
Country life is simple.
I try to exonomise and only run into towns when need to! (:
Hope packing is going well.
Blessings & Peace,
Nitya

yeah alright maybe i am avoiding going to sleep so what.
the brain demons are out to get me tonight folks (anxiety mainly, that motherfucker).
Found ants in the apartment, which caused Major Upset with partner due to relatively recent traumatic experiences with living conditions involving ants inside of living spaces. Which is understandable. Got me thinking about how i grew up with just a lot of little beasties invading the places i inhabited and while i'm grateful for the experience it does sort of...idk. feels weird. feels like something i never really examined before and like...idk.
i need to get to a doctor to make sure i get the necessary paperwork completed so that the state doesn't cancel my medicaid. I have a big expense coming up in the form of car registration ($200 for my 20yo vehicle because it was fancy when it was new) in April. I gotta do my taxes.
My mom's birthday is on the 6th and it's causing me internal angst because while i want to be the bigger person i also want to be a petty bitch (simplistic version of events). like i know i will be actively Choosing To Be Rude and Behave Poorly by not *checks notes* saying anything about it, or planning on thanking them if they mention my own birthday in about a month.
because i'm...i'm doing my best to cut them off. Because they have treated me poorly and no amount of explanation will ever mean anything to them because all that will happen is i will be gaslit *again* about how none of the things i know are things actually happened, and they will *fully believe their own shit*. because they don't think those things happened. They don't believe any of the stuff I say at all.
so i'm just. i'm stressed and anxious and kind of freaking out about money stuff in general (i'm okay right now but i need to figure out something longer term than just limping along on Gifts From Family which are inconsistent and subject to drop off if I actually just stop communicating with everyone)
oh yeah and also i need new glasses...and preferably new contacts too but i don't think insurance will cover both, and my prescription is expensive.
so yeah. i might be trying to avoid going to bed because i don't want to be doing this while laying in the dark. at least sitting up in the living room has the potential for me to be productive on *something* while i do a mini spiral into the anxiety-zone.
#all that said i think i will try and turn in here soon#it's real late and i...should sleep.#not sleeping will make my everything feel worse so i should just go and do that#if nothing else i can lay in bed and close my eyes and have stress dreams

TGIWednesday: ground zero
TGIWednesday News 📰Some folks would call it "back to square one" but I call it ground zero. Ugh, grrr only thing worse than a huge loss is breaking even. Seems harder sometimes for folks to get ahead, and you get that thousand dollar bonus only to wind up with a thousand dollar car repair the next week.
The point is we must move forward and make a little daily progress. Even in sway testing or using a pendulum, the worst is the in between! Neither positive or negative and that's what I call hidden to the negative. Get off the couch, and back into the game of life. The rising tide lifts all boats! 🌊🛥️
Like this past full moon, comets and an asteroid coming at us, everything changes and like the tides there will always be highs and lows. Let's stay positive and lean into a little progress each and every day. You can make a difference and positive changes in your own life and be a great influence on others! 😊

I believe, think, know and feel that I can change my circumstances and my life by leaning into restoring all areas of life. I know when, where how and why to remain positive and in forward motion so that I can achieve restoration and then something extra good. I am ready, willing and able to be of service to myself and others and I know that through changes, I can reach a restored point of vast improvements in my life. I am asking in all languages and throughout all timelines and so it is. The Monster Of Willow Creek (Tales Of Horror Segment 2) (COPY RIGHT) Page 30
“Yeah, we’ll, this isn’t exactly ideal. Like they say, take it, or leave it.”, said Eric. They all lie their back against the wall, sliding down on the ground and stretching their legs while every person’s leg touch each other. Hoping the night goes okay without any disturbance, they all try to sleep.
The monster arrives at its den, dragging Isaac inside. Isaac’s front side of the body is scraped, having scratch marks on his chest and face, due to being dragged on the ground. His shirt is covered with dirt, blood, and tears, long stretched tears. His vision blurry snd dizzy, having his head hit repeatedly by rocks, logs and broken branches. The monster let’s go his leg, as Isaac uses whatever energy he has left to slowly crawl. Couldn’t go on, his body collapses to the ground. Grabbing his leg again, the monster pulls him back and flips him to his back. As soon as Isaac was flipped on his back, he turns his head to the right, seeing Tanya’s Steven’s meatless bodies. The monster stabs Isaac in his stomach with its sharp nails, he screams while spitting out blood. Digging deeper in his stomach, the monster starts to open it up. Tearing out the innards and skin, the monster starts to consume the raw meat. Isaac dies, as the monster continues to eat him.
It’s 3:30 a.m., and Alyana is the only one who’s awake, everyone else is sleeping. Since everyone is sleeping, Alyana takes the opportunity to call her father. She takes out her phone from her pants pocket, and dials. The phone rings. Zahn is sitting at his desk doing paper work, his phone rings. He sees it’s Alyana and answers. “Hey, honey, what’s wrong?”, said Zahn. Alyana quietly, and softly replies, trying not to wake anyone up. “Dad! We need your help! Can you pick me and my friends up?!”. Zahn is now concerned. “What happened?!”, said Zahn. Alyana replies in a hysterical manner. “The wendigo is real! It killed two people, one of my friends and the receptionist of the registration cabin! And took two individuals!”. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, slow down, honey! What happened?!”, said Zahn. “The wendigo is real! It killed two people! Which was one of my friends, and the receptionist of the registration cabin! And took two individuals! I’m scared dad! Please, come get us! I don’t want to die here!”, said Alyana. “Are you sure?!”, said Zahn. “Yes, dad, yes!”, said Alyana. “Okay! You and your friends, just stay where you at, and Ill be there in a couple of hours!”, said Zahn. “Okay! Me and my friends will meet and wait for you at the registration cabin.”, said Alyana. “Do what you gotta do! Just be careful!”, sad Zahn. He hangs up the phone and is really worried about his daughter. Alyana hangs up her phone too. Zahn enters the captain’s room. “Boss, I’m going to Willow Creek.”, said Zahn. The captain replies, as he’s doing paperwork. “Willow Creek? That’s five hours away from here. What’s the problem?”, said the captain. “There’s a problem at Six Rivers National Forrest Inn, with my daughter and her friends.”, said Zahn. “Are you sure it’s not a domestic dispute, or something like that?”, said the captain. “No, sir! Nothing like that.”, said Zahn. “Well, go then.”, said the captain. “Thank you, sir.”, said Zahn. Zahn goes on to leave the station, as the captain continues doing paperwork. Exiting out the police station, Zahn walks to his police car and enters. After entering the car, he pulls out his phone again, and calls Sarah. The phone rings, Sarah picks up. “Hey, what’s wrong?”, said Sarah. Zahn sighs. “Aly called me, and is in trouble.”, said Zahn. “Does it have to do with the wendigo?”, said Zahn. “Yes. But I will get our baby back! I’m not going to let her die.”, said Zahn. “Be careful. And bring our baby back.”, said Sarah. “I will. I’ll see you once I return with Aly.”, said Zahn. He hangs up the phone, and drives off to Willow Creek.
Monday, the third day. It’s 7:00 a.m., as the sun rises, the gang are still sleeping. It’s cold. Eric awakens and Checks the time on his watch. It’s 7:05 a.m. “Guys, wake up!”, said Eric. Everyone starts to wake up, feeling stiff and sore. “We have to start moving now.”, said Eric. Everyone gets up and stretches. “Fuck! It’s cold!”, said Becky. “Guys, before we leave, I called my dad last night, and told him about our situation. And I also told him to meet and pick us up at the registration cabin.”, said Alyana. “He’s coming here?”, said Becky. “Yes!”, said Alyana. “That’s good to hear. Good news to start the day. All we gotta do is try to survive. So, are you guys ready?”, said Eric. They all nod their heads yes. “Scoot back. So I can open the door.”, said Eric. They scoot back, but it’s still not enough space. Eric uses the force of his body to open the door again. The door fully breaks down. “Wow. You fully broke down the door, congrats!”, said Leon. “Shut up!”, said Eric. It’s foggy outside. Eric exits the shed first, checking if the coast is clear. “Is it safe, or what?”, said Becky. Eric replies, as he looks around. “I can’t tell! It’s really foggy.”. “Oh, well, that’s bad.”, said Michelle. “Yeah, but we have to take our chances.”, said Eric. They all exit out the shed. “Before we go to the cabin, let’s go check if the monster left a trail of dragging Isaac. Maybe we can find its home and find Isaac.”, said Eric. The tea. Is hesitant to check. “Look, let’s see if there’s a trail. If there is a trail let’s just follow it. If it leads to a place, we’ll just go wait at the cabin and wait for your dad. He can call for help, and we can search inside the place for Isaac.”, said Eric. They all agreed and goes on to check for a trail. Walking deep in the fog, the gang are having a hard time searching, due to the fog. Luckily, Leon spot some blood on the ground. “Hey! I found something!”, said Leon. Everyone arrives ar the area, sees the blood trail too, but there’s a problem. “Um, guys, which way was it, that we came from?”, said Becky. No one remembers. “Shit! I don’t remember.”, said Eric. “Neither do all of us. This place is disorienting.”, said Leon. “The only thing we can do is, split up into two groups, and follow each side of the blood trail, sees where it takes us.”, said Eric. “I don’t know if that’s such a good idea.”, said Alyana. “What other choice do we have?”, said Eric. Alyana sighs and stood silent. Becky chooses to go with Eric. “I’ll go with you.”, said Becky. Alyssa and Michelle chooses to go with Leon. “I’ll go with Leon.”, said Alyana. “Same here.”, said Michelle. “Oh, if any of us find anything, let’s try to call each other by phone.”, said Eric. “Before we go, let’s at least check if we have any signals.”, said Alyana. They all luckily have signals. “Does everyone have signals?”, said Eric. The gang replies a yes. “Okay. You guys go that way, and we’ll go this way.”, said Eric. “You guys be careful.”, said Alyana. “You too.”, said Becky. The two groups goes on walking opposite directions of the blood trail.

Sokovia and Spiders - Chapter 5
The bruising has faded to a murky yellow when he wakes up the next morning. The burns are still raw but white spots don’t dance across his vision when he moves his arm anymore. Small mercies. Fortunately, he’s not due in work for a couple of days, his co-workers are surely bored of hearing about him tumbling downstairs and running into open cupboard doors.
A full week passes before he patrols next, partially because he was waiting for his injuries to heal and partially because calls for Spiderman’s arrest hadn’t quietened yet. It’s a strange feeling being public enemy number one again, it had been a couple of years. Swinging through New York’s streets even though his spidey sense stays quiet, he’s still half expecting Ms Marvel or Ironman to be hiding around each corner he turns.
But the night stays calm. Or at least it does until a bullet wizzes past, flying so close that Peter’s not sure if it was meant to kill him or get his undivided attention. It worked if it was meant to do the latter. Spinning around, he sees a figure clad in red and black leather jump down to the street. A resounding crunch makes Peter wince as the other man lands like a sack of potatoes. He nearly loses his lunch when the figure stands up, one blood sodden bone poking out. It’s made worse when the man pauses it shove it back in place, before finally speaking, ‘’My name is Wade Wilson aka Deadpool aka The Merc with a mouth aka This Guy’s worst nightmare.’’
‘’Can I help you with something Mr Wilson’’ Peter knows the name Deadpool well despite, never previously having met him. He was a gun for hire, a certifiable lunatic, and a long time thorn in the side of the X-men. If the rumours about him prove to be true, Spiderman is in serious trouble.
‘’Weird... How does he know my name? Word must be getting around about me.’’
‘’You're talking out loud.’’
‘’I am?’’
‘’Errr yes.’’
‘’Sorry I was meant to be breaking the fourth wall. I'll have to get that looked at.’’ He looks genuinely puzzled, at least as far as Peter can tell behind the red leather mask. ‘’Anyhow, now the Superhuman Registration Act has been passed all heroes, vigilantes and generally any guy who can glow or shoot lasers out of their nipples needs to sign up with the ol’ United States Government or people like me are going to bring them to justice. That’s right readers I’m now working for the man. Or at least I will be as soon as I bring in this renegade.’’
Without further ado he strikes. One hand rises to grab a blade before he slashes down, right as Peter makes his own move. Dropping to one knee he rolls forward, his shoulder digging painfully into the gravel before he leaps to his feet again. The metal continues streamlining through the air in a perfect arch, cutting through the air where Peter’s head had been thirty seconds earlier. ‘’They told me you had good reflexes, which is just great. I like a challenge.’’
His Spidey sense is blaring like a car alarm, loud and obnoxious as he stares at the man in front of him, half aware of the warmth sluggishly running down the side of his face. Numbly he reaches up, feeling where his mask has been ripped by his ear, his fingers come away crimson.
‘’Alright, you’re a white male, around five foot seven. Is that a bit of brunette hair I see.‘’ He’s lowered his blade as he rattles on and Peter suddenly feel like he’s a mouse being played with by a cat. It’s a distressing thought that blocks out the realisation that a stone cold killer knows more about Spiderman’s identity in two minutes than all of New York has learnt in three years. ‘’I’ll have to put all of that into the system when I bring you in.’’ Whilst no one is trying to lob his head off Peter takes a moment to look over the weapon, still poised between them but having been lowered till it skims the floor. Shining dimly in the night it looks like something out of a movie, his stomach sinks when he notices his blood coating the tip. ‘’Can I ask how old are you?’’
That question snaps him out of his panicked haze. ‘’None of your goddamn business.’’
‘’Have you not been listening this entire time, Spideyboy? This is my business. In fact, it’s my entire job. I guess it doesn’t matter. I’ll find out who you are as soon as I unmask you. ’’
‘’Unmask me? You- You just tried to kill me.’’
‘’Technically all I really did was nick your ear. But lethal force is allowed so long as the men in black suits or the media never find out.’’ Once again Deadpool swings, moving as Peter ducks out of range. Only this time there’s no let-up, the blade swings up and down like Deadpool’s dicing onions. Peter winces as he lands on his feet and left arm, suddenly remembering the pulled muscle not yet fixed from his fight with Ironman. He’s forced to move again before he can dwell on it.
Since Deadpool has abandoned conversation, the night is quiet, at least for New York. The whistle of swords swinging through the air is half drowned out by the hum of faraway traffic and Peter’s own ragged breathing. Each move he makes is a resulting mixture of fast reflexes and his spidey sense, with no time for strategic planning. Automatically he throws out a web, once there’s a metres width between him and his assailant, when he feels it connect to the nearby lamp post he yanks hard.
As his feet lift off the ground, Peter can see a flash of red out of the corner of his eye. Before two small knives skim past, the first hacks into his hip, tearing into soft tissue. Whilst the other flies past, slicing through the web like a knife through butter.
The remaining web drifts to the ground. Peter falls too, but his landing is less delicate as he tumbles out of the air. Bracing for impact, he can feel his lip burst as he hits the floor, leaving a metallic taste in his mouth. A shadow is cast over he as he struggles to get air back into his bruised lungs. Groaning he looks up, only to see a red mask and white eyes staring back. ‘Well that was extremely embarrassing. For you I mean, not me.’’
‘’Wait if you wanted it bring me in shouldn’t I be given a chance to surrender.’’
‘’Oh shit. I totally forgot that part. Ok Spiderman do you take the US Government as your lawfully wedded. Wait. Sorry wrong lines. I’m getting married this weekend you see. Spiderman I’m placing you under arrest for breaching The Superhuman Registration Act. You have the right to remain silent. Everything you say... Yada, Yada, you get the gist. I’m going to need you to stand up with your arms out. Do you accept this arrest?’’
‘’Yeah.’’ Peter breaths out as he gingerly rises to his feet, one arm is held out whilst the other is clamped tightly on his thigh, blood leaking through his fingers.
‘’Wow that was easy. And I’m going to allow you to do that, just because I can imagine the bounty is higher when the captive hasn’t bled out.’’ Deadpool’s tone has turned conversational, almost cheerful, like he’s discussing a bout of sunny weather. When he reaches behind him Peter flinches, expecting a knife to be jutting out of his ribs any second. Catching sight of that Deadpool raises his arms placatingly ‘’Just reaching into my fanny pack. No need to be so jumpy.’’ Only then does Peter notice he does indeed have a fanny pack, tied around his waist. Digging through it he turns his back, away from Peter. Anticipation grips his muscles as Peter lowers his good arm, blindly feeling for the web shooters on his other wrist. Finding them, he pushes a fresh web canister into place, wincing at the clinking sound it makes.
His arms are back in place by the time, Deadpool turns around again clutching a pair of high-tech cuffs. ‘’Wait you said there’s a bounty for me?’’
‘’Yep. Stark has personally offered money to whoever can bring you in. And let me tell you it’s a lot. I mean you fought off two avengers. You’re going to make me a very happy man tonight. That sounded a little weird. Especially whilst I’m holding the cuffs...’’
Bracing his feet apart he watches each step the mercenary takes, ‘’What are they planning on doing to me exactly?’’
‘’Minister Fantastic himself has cooked up a prison for guys like you. It’s in the negative zone, which is by the way the shittiest place you can go. Don’t tell anyone I told you though. They’re still being very hush hush about it. I guess the writer wanted the readers to be shocked by the reveal or something.’’
Deadpool is nearly in place, he’s so close that Peter doesn’t even bother to pay attention to whatever non-sense he’s saying when he replies, ‘’Writer?’’
‘’You wouldn’t understand.’’
‘’I guess I wouldn’t.’’ Without warning he launches himself toward the other man, leaping into the air and twisting. He bends as his feet meet the chest plate of Deadpool’s suit. With everything he has he pushes, his leg screaming as the muscles under the open wound strain. He flips himself into a graceful crouch whilst Deadpool lurches backward, sprawling out onto the road. In the background he can hear Deadpool swearing to himself.
With no hesitation Peter starts to scale up the nearest wall to escape, déjà vu hitting him as he realises this was the second time in a week he’d run with his tail between his legs. A sigh of relief escapes when he reaches the rooftop without anymore blades or bullets flying. Flicking the button on his wrist, he cries out as the polyester hits the wound. It’s not what a doctor who wanted to keep their licence would suggest but at least he wouldn’t be trailing blood, for a murderous Gretal.
He sets off into a sprint, once the wounds fully covered in the makeshift bandage. Leaping off the roof into the next alley, ice cold air whips past his face as he swings. He keeps it up for three blocks, swinging roof to roof. Eventually, he stops, crumpling down beside a grimy chimney. His chest heaves with each breath, blood and adrenaline coursing through his body as his heart threatens to beat out of his chest.
There’s bitter metallic tang lingering in his mouth but the blood dripping from his ear finally stopped. Resting his head against the wall, his eyes drop closed.
‘’Suprise.’’ Before he can move Peter’s head is smacked back into the wall, his vision fades to black before a hand roughly slaps him back to full consciousness. ‘’Did you really think I’d just let you get away like that. ‘’ Scrunching up the back of his mask, Deadpool yanks his head up. ‘’At the start this wasn’t anything personal. Just business. Now it’s personal.’’ As he talks blood saturated fingers dip below his chin, and struggle to grasp at the edge of Peter’s mask.
Faintly Peter thinks he hears a clang in the distance. But Deadpool pulling his mask above his chin distracts him. Frantically, he manages to get one arm up, scratching at the offending hand but it’s quickly subdued, before being crushed to the floor by Deadpool’s boot, his web shooters contort before they pierce his skin. The world around him spins, the mercenary’s hold the only thing keeping him upright. Cold air rushes into his lungs as the mask is pulled above his nose. Deadpool suddenly pauses like he’s waiting to give a big reveal, ‘’Finally, the world gets to meet Spiderman.’’

Attn PNC Bank:

Blessings & Peace,
Nitya

I fell out of love with my partner
Every time I think I'm getting ahead in life, here comes my partner to ruin all of that. He constantly has us as a family in a bind, especially financially.
Today I fucking snapped on him because I'm so sick of it. I'm over it.
We are finally getting to a place where I think we are financially steady; we just got into a new place that is extremely affordable for us, and things are looking up. I'm asking him about bills that have to be paid, some he is in charge of and some I'm in charge of. We are both adults, so I figure he should be able to handle the ones that he claims to be covering. Plus, I can't be in charge at work, these kids, and our household. It's too much to carry, so I figure it's only fair that he carries some of this load.
Boy was I fucking wrong.
I asked him about the car insurance. He says every month that he's going to pay and I leave that to him. Assuming he has caught us up on this bill or will this month.
Except when he checks, there is no policy. They took away our policy. In a state that requires car insurance. We have small children and here I am driving around in an uninsured car because either 1. He hasn't paid. 2. His license is suspended AGAIN forcing me to drive everyone around or 3. A combination of 1 and 2.
This is how we got here:
Doesn't have enough money to pay for his annual tag 4 MONTHS after payment was due (no matter how many times I tell him to save up the money and pay for the fucking tag, he doesn't) > gets pulled over for an expired tag, gets a $113 ticket > Does not pay the registration within the 30 days the cop told him to pay the tag so the ticket would disappear, now owes for the tag/registration AND the ticket > pays the registration, does not pay the ticket (deja vu telling him week after week to pay the fucking ticket) > doesn't pay the ticket, license gets suspended > doesn't pay the car insurance AND has a suspended license > car insurance gets dropped > registration for next year has been suspended due to a suspended license > cannot get new insurance without a special form for said suspended license. Every time I look at him all I see is a loser. A burden. He's always going to get in his own way and he will always get in mine.
If it wasn't for me having a kid with him, I would have dipped on him already. It is easy to fall out of love with someone who only causes you issue after issue and it's nothing but stress and anxiety and rarely any time to just be normal or rest. It's always something with him. It's been like this with him, not kidding, since the FIRST week we got together.
Fuck this engagement ring, fuck getting married, fuck him. Not only do I not want to get married, I don't even want to be with him. Signed, A Frustrated Mom

Oh my god! Can I request getting pulled over by RE2 Leon?? You can choose whether reader and him are dating already or not. Hope you have a great day!!
AAaaa my first request ever!! This is amazing!! I decided to make Leon and reader already dating since I don't think I've read a fic like that before! I hope you like it :)) CW: brief innuendo to sex towards the end, entirely fluffy content here word count: 1483
A torrential waterfall of rain slammed onto your windshield as you drove down the highway, skin taught around your knuckles as he squeezed the steering wheel. You seriously regretting driving in the pouring rain, right after the sun set; but you didn’t have a choice. Your boss had decided to keep you later than you were scheduled.
Asshole.
Your foot pressed on the gas pedal harder, the pressure of your terrible workday alongside the weather was heavy on your mind. The red in your vision made it difficult to register that speeding during a torrential rainstorm was probably an extremely unwise-and dangerous decision.
Flashing blue and red lights pulled you from your trance; making you groan loudly. Great, now it would take you even longer to get home. For a second, the intrusive thought to just speed away from the cop was hot on your instincts. However, you knew that running away from a cop, and potentially getting caught was a lot worse than getting a speeding ticket.
With a deep sigh, you begin to pull over into the shoulder, thankful that the interstate was mostly free of cars; likely due to the nasty weather. You put your car in park, and wait impatiently for the officer to come up to your window.
You already felt a bit bad for them, since they would be faced with the wrath of a mini-hurricane outside. Then again, they deserved it for pulling you over for going eight miles and hour over the limit.
Not the worst you’ve seen done on this highway, it seemed like the common consensus was that the speed limit was fifteen over the posted limit. You rub your eyes, not really caring if you smudged the makeup that was barely holding onto your face. You had a long day, you were ready to go home.
Three taps on your window signaled that the cop was at your window. You refused to look at the person who had pulled you over, mostly out of embarrassment. You cranked the knob that lowered the window. Cold droplets of water splashed onto your face as you did so, which annoyed you even more.
“License and registration pleas-”
You gasped in surprise as the officer blurted out your name, and as you instantly recognized his voice. Your head whipped around to look at him, and being met by the youthfully innocent face of your boyfriend; Leon Scott Kennedy.
“L-Leon?”
The shame of speeding hit you like a baseball bat, as your face flushed. Not only did seeing your handsome partner startle you, but knowing he pulled you over; that was even more embarrassing.
“W-When did you get a new car?” Leon asked, sounding a bit flabbergasted.
“Last week…” You respond meekly. “The day after we went out for dinner, since then it usually sits in my garage.”
The ash blonde officer stumbled over his words a bit more. “I didn’t recognize it, I’m-” he inhaled deeply. “Do you realize how fast you were going?”
You roll your eyes, heart still pounding in your chest. “Officer, I have no idea. I was just trying to get home.” You smirk, which made the poor young cop outside your window flush deeply. The interior lighting of your car let you see the slight hint of pink on his cheekbones.
Leon seemed to be barely holding himself together as he fumbled over his words, clearly unsure how to handle the situation of “pulling his girlfriend over” that he most certainly didn’t get training for in the academy.
“I have a suggestion, Officer Kennedy.”
You unbuckle your seatbelt, and turn your body to face your boyfriend; a playful smile on your face. Normally, you wouldn’t try to seduce your way out of a speeding ticket, but this was your boyfriend. Who else got an opportunity like this?
“It’s raining awfully hard out there, and you look like a wet puppy.” You coo, quite amused at Leon’s offended expression. “Let’s say, you let me off with a warning, and you can come to my apartment after your shift to dry off.”
The blonde man’s thick eyebrows furrowed, clearly torn between what he wanted, and what his training instructed him. You pucker your lower lip, fluttered your eyelashes and that seemed to be enough to push him over the edge.
“Fine.”
You beam widely, reaching your torso outside your car window to hug him. “Thanks, Leon.”
Your boyfriend shakes his head, tapping his foot; clearly trying to pretend that he was annoyed. The playful smirk on his face gave away his true feelings, though. “You owe one.” He winked, nodding to his cruiser.
“I’ll see you at home, I get off work in thirty.”
A mischievous smile graces your lips. “I’ll see you in roughly thirty.”
Leon waves a hand, and begins to walk back to his car. You roll up your window and you put your car back in drive. Your stomach is dizzy with excitement as you drive off (within the speedlimit this time).
As soon as you arrive to your apartment, you throw off your damp clothes in exchange for a large hoodie (that you stole from your partner), and put on a pot of coffee. Yes, it was already late at night, but you figured Leon would appreciate a cup of caffeine goodness after his long shift.
Before you knew it, three knocks at the door makes you stop in your tracks. You rush over to the oak door, looking into the peephole to see your boyfriend. WIthout much hesitation, you swing the door open. His long arms wrap around your shoulders as you pull him inside.
The freezing wetness of his R.P.D uniform makes you squeak in protest. “I just put on clean clothes!”
“Sorry, princess.” Leon grins at you, all of his pearly teeth visible behind pink lips.
You sigh in mock aggravation, swatting his shoulder lightly. “You’re lucky you’re cute.”
“And so are you,” the man teases cooly, “or I would’ve given you a speeding ticket.”
Laughter comes from both of you, as you make your way to the kitchen. “Go on and change out of that uniform. I think I have spare clothes of yours in my closet.” You instruct, but the blonde’s clingy arms don’t leave your body.
“I don’t wannnaaa.” Leon whines, blinking his baby blues. “You’re so warm and I’m so cold.”
You shake your head, finally managing to pry him off. “Nope, sorry officer, you gotta change first.”
With a small grumble, he saunters off to your bedroom. He was well aware of the layout of the room, he wouldn’t need your help looking for his clothes. You manage to pour the steaming hot, black, liquid into two mugs by the time he emerges from the bedroom.
As you expected, he threw on the sweatpants that you had stolen from him around two months ago. He was shirtless, but held a tshirt in his hands. You instantly blush and look away.
Years of working out and training to be a police officer had graced the man with what seemed like perfect muscles. The dim lighting of your apartment made every curve and divet of his torso stand out. His chest was mosly bare of body hair, making his pale skin glow.
It was like you were looking at the god Eros himself. The embodiment of carnal love, desire, and sex.
You were one LUCKY person to be dating Leon S. Kennedy.
“Coffee? For me?” He chirped, arms finding his way around your waist. You noted that he didn’t bother to put the shirt on.
“For both of us, I figured you’d need it after our hellish shifts.”
Leon hummed in response, his lips pressing against your jaw, gently rocking your bodies side to side as he held you. “How thoughtful, maybe I should pull you over more often.” He chuckled lowly against the top of your head.
You feel heat rising in your viens, you knew what he was up to, and what he wanted. “M-Maybe I’m just feeling generous, Leon.”
Before you could pick up the mugs of coffee, you found yourself being spun around. Your spine hit the edge of the counter, as hungry lips met yours.
Large hands dragged across your hips, as your arms rested on his bare shoulders. Leon’s teeth desperately clicked against yours as he kissed you, eyes sealed shut with pure passion.
After a moment, you both separate, panting for air. “I felt something suspicious in your pockets ma’am, I need to search you.” The blonde wheezes, chest rising and falling rapidly.
You press a hand to his chest, playing along with his silly game. “I guess you have to search me, Officer Kennedy.” You wink, walking off to your bedroom, your boyfriend quick on your heels.
The coffee was long forgotten, and found sitting cold on the counter the next morning…

I fucked my way into this mess, and I’ll fuck my way out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Oh shit” was all I could say, looking at the now crimson red-hoodie.
“You better fix that”.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi!!! Had this idea and couldn't resist writing about it, also the title helped to develop it hahahaha.
it's not NSFW, but it hints a bit about it at the end, so be careful. Also, TW: death and blood are both mentioned and described.
The previous game night I got my sweatshirt broken, and since then I had been borrowing people’s clothes. I wasn’t able to search for a new decent one and I was planning on scabaging a few stores on my way back to the Beach after this game.
I had managed to steal a few clothes from Kunai and some other people, and they didn’t mind. No one minded but Chishiya, that bastard. His hoodies were so clean and soft, wonders where he took them. So, given that he didn’t want to lend them over, I broke into his room and stole the best one. It was pure white, big and comfy with a front pocket and a hood.
He wasn’t supposed to go out and play tonight, so it would have been fine. He wasn’t even in the car when I got there. But, out of nowhere, he was at the lobby of the game arena I was supposed to clear.
I mean, the mad look he gave me? Dude, I was scared.
We were playing a spades game, an easy one. In total there were eight participants, two of them were new to the games and scared to the bone.
“REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED. THERE ARE A TOTAL OF 8 PARTICIPANTS. THE GAME WILL NOW COMMENCE.”
I looked around and saw a path going up the stairs and into a wide corridor. Two small tables were placed at the bottom of them, one holding the phones left after we all took our own, and the other one with several collars. I had heard of them in other games, but I didn’t have the pleasure of trying them on.
While the phones were informing us of the difficulty of the game, I got closer to Chishiya, step by step, judging if he was mad enough to give me the silent treatment. Apparently not, because he didn’t push me away nor did he go to the other corner of the mini crowd we formed. I tucked my hand into the pocket and balanced on my toes, listening to the rules of the game.
“GAME: TARGET SHOOTING.”
“PLEASE, PUT ON THE COLLARS PLACED ON THE TABLE”.
Reluctantly, we all clasped the collar around our necks. It felt wrong and cold, like the hand of a murderer patiently waiting to squeeze harder and harder until you died. I swallowed hard, rolling my head and trying to get used to the feeling. My eyes drifted to Chishiya’s form and I wasn’t surprised to find him unaltered. His hands were hidden in his pockets, his face covered by the hood, but I caught a glimpse of his eyes.
He looked at me, from head to toes. Would he forgive me because I looked good in his clothes? Probably not, but I could wish.
“RULE: MANAGE TO SHOOT ACCURATELY TO THE TARGET WITH THE CROSSBOWS LEFT IN EACH ROOM”.
“CLEAR CONDITION: PASS THE 10 ROOMS WITH PERFECT AIM. IF YOU FAIL, YOU WILL BE ELIMINATED. IF YOU MAKE ANOTHER PLAYER SHOOT IN YOUR TURN, YOU WILL BE ELIMINATED”.
“TIME LIMIT: 30 MINUTES, EACH ROOM HAS A MAXIMUM OF 3 MINUTES. IF YOU DON’T CLEAR THE ROOM IN THAT TIME, YOU WILL BE ELIMINATED”.
“THE GAME WILL START ONCE YOU OPEN THE DOORS”.
Without a word, we all took the stairs up to the first mark pointing to door number 1. Some guy opened it and we walked inside. It was almost empty, leaving one table with a crossbow and a handful of arrows. At the end of the room there was a kind of dart-board, but the red center was way bigger than usual. Just a few steps from the door there was a mark with two feet, signaling the shooting position.
Our phones chimed with the time starting the countdown. Below the time apparead the face of one of the players, giving him the first turn. A black haired boy took the crossbow with confidence, getting the arrow ready and shooting with efficiency.
“Are you mad at me?” I whispered to Chishiya.
He gave me the eye and grunted. “I clearly remember telling you not to steal my clothes. Are you going deaf?”
I giggled and hid my nose in the hoodie. It smelled like him, one of the very first reasons why I stole it. I love the way he smells of new things, undiscovered fragrances and fresh days. It brought me peace and calm; I felt safe.
“I was cold and couldn’t find anything else. You weren’t supposed to see, I thought you weren’t due yet”.
The first three participants did well, the last one getting too close to the limit but managing anyway. I was next.
Taking an arrow and getting ready for the shooting, I placed myself on the mark and breathed deeply. I didn’t like guns, but I had a good aim when needed. With a clear shot, I gave the crossbow to the next player.
We all passed the room within the time limit and left for the next one. Given the easiness of the first room, a bust of confidence started to grow in each player, so when the target became a pain to shoot, panic bursted in the room.
It was room 4 where the first player died. An old woman that was trembling with fear and exhaustion missed the red circle. She dropped the crossbow and looked at us in fear, grabbing the collar and pulling with force. I walked backwards until I met the opposite wall. Chishiya was next to me, with his eyes locked in the body of the lady going down after the bomb exploded. I couldn’t look at it.
The next player had to move her body to be able to step on the mark, and that was when all of us were aware of the situation. While I knew what the collar meant, some of the participants didn’t.
“I will return it after the game, I promise. Just wait until we finish and I’m able to take something from some mall” I told him walking towards room number 6. No one was talking, so my voice was easy to pick up above the steps of the players. They looked at me from the corner of their eyes, wondering how I was so calm, how I was able to think of something else apart from the game.
Chishiya brought my hood up and placed it on my head, covering my hair with it. “If you don’t bring it back, you will face consequences” And then he walked faster to the next room. I gulped, not wanting to know what would await me if I didn’t. The feeling of his fingers through the strands of my hair still alive on my mind.
Room 8 only held four players. Chishiya and I were with the boy with shooting experience and a girl with short hair. Both of them were young and composed, getting through the game without a word from their lips.
It was getting noticeably difficult. The target was in higher places and getting smaller by the point. A headache was starting to grow and it made me clench my fingers more often, almost making me shoot a moment before I was ready. The pressure of the time was smaller since we were less people, but it meant we took more time to get ready and I was getting nervous.
The four of us made it to room 10. It looked like the last one, extremely difficult with a very small target and too high to comfortably shoot. The boy was called first and he got ready to shoot. His confidence had wavered in the last rooms, same as the rest, but he still made an effort on showing a calm facade.
I was sure he was gonna clear the game. I think all of the players in the room thought so. And I was behind him, waiting for my turn, looking anxiously at the time getting close to the end. But also, we all thought there wasn’t going to happen anything else. No one saw the vents opening and giving a rush of air, making the arrow go a bit to the left and missing the target. It was a soft breeze, but enough to change the course of the arrow.
“No. No, no, no. No! This wasn’t supposed to happen! They didn’t tell! It’s not fair! I was the first one to shoot!” He shouted. He started screaming at us because now we knew about it. He died in the middle of a cry, shaking me from the shoulders. And I just stood there, listening to his cries and too shocked to fight him.
I got all his blood spattered on myself, his dead eyes printed on my mind.
I don’t recall what happened after. I just remember throwing the body of the dead player to one side, taking the crossbow and shooting to the target. I almost missed, having miscalculated the force of the air released by the vents. I think the girl went after me and cleared the game too. We waited until Chishiya shot and stood there, listening to the beeping sound of the phones.
“GAME CLEAR”.
“CONGRATULATIONS”.
Leaving the hotel next to Chishiya was a bit awkward. He was playing with the card in his hands, looking at it with an interesting face. And he wasn’t talking, not even humming. He liked to point out things about the game after he cleared them, about the rules, the players or the place we played in. But he didn’t. We arrived at the nearest car that was going to the Beach and I made a move to get in. I wasn’t in the mood of walking all the way back, but Chishiya stopped me before I could open the door.
“Nope, you are not coming” He told me, pushing me away from the car.
“What? Why?” I asked, frowning my eyebrows. He pointed to my chest and I looked down. “Oh shit” It was so far gone. There was not a single white spot in the hoodie. It was absolutely red. “Oh fuck, oh no, I’m so sorry”. I looked at him, my face showing full remorse, big eyes asking for forgiveness. I tried to reach him, failing when he moved out of my reach.
He just smirked and shook his head. “I will wait until tomorrow night. You better fix that before then”. And he got in the car, leaving me alone in the street, hands still in the air.
“Chishiya you bastard! I didn’t do it on purpose!”
So there I was, going into every shop I could find, searching for an identical hoodie and taking advantage of the trip to pick a few things for myself. It wasn’t a special hoodie or something, but most of them were either the wrong size or too dirty. I took my precious time looking for a perfect one, also taking some more to give as an apology and for me to match. We would see who would try to steal then.
I had miscalculated the time it would take me to walk back to the Beach. The ride to the game arena was a bit longer than usual, but I didn’t think walking would take me that much.
The sun was going down when I reached the Beach. I was famished and thirsty as hell. I was only able to take a fast lunch and I walked a too long distance. I went straight to the kitchens and I gulped down a full bottle of water with some snacks.
After I was satisfied, I stood and took my bags to my room, putting away the clothes I picked and changing into something clean. Taking the ones I chose for Chishiya, I left my room and went to his.
I knocked and waited until I heard footsteps coming to open the door. I fought a smile miting my lip and tried to remain calm. He opened the door just a bit to see who was knocking, opening fully seeing me there.
“Do you like this one?” I said while turning around and opening my arms. “It’s exactly the same one, size and all, and don’t forget the hood and the pocket!” I watched him lean into the door frame and smirk behind his hair. He gave me a look crossing his arms and letting out a breathy laugh.
I remained serious and gave a sorry look. “I mean, if you don’t like it, I have a few more for you to choose. Here, let me try them on so you can see how they look” Taking the sleeves, I pulled my arms out and started to take the hoodie off in the middle of the corridor.
I heard him moving just when I was about to take it off. Suddenly I was being dragged by the arm and thrown into Chishiya’s room.
I laughed out loud, almost tripping because of the strength and the lack of vision due to the hoodie being over my head. His room smelled like he did and I was high on it.
“Do you need to be such a pain for me to do something?” He said with a smug voice, taking the hoodie completely off me. His dark eyes checked me out and I felt so vulnerable under his gaze that I felt chills running through my body.
Could he be any more handsome? The way this eyes held the whole world’s knowledge made me shiver in both fear and awe. The white strands of hair dancing around his face, making him shine even more. His smile, a rare but precious sight.
His touch was warm and delicate. His fingers went through my hair, to my cheekbones and to my neck, going slowly and leaving me breathless.
I took a step forward and grabbed at his clothes, feeling brave for a moment, getting close to his ear to whisper with a soft and heavy voice: “It worked, didn’t it?” Besides, now I know what it takes to bring you down”.
“You’re on”.

Place Your Bets
Implied (Future) Keiichi Kuzuryuu x Reader
Summary: This is a reimagining of the manga’s version of the Four of Clubs game, featuring a very stubborn, very smart mother hen Y/N instead of a gentle girl.
A/N: I have literally never seen anyone write for Kuzuryuu and that made me sad, because I love him. Also I know very little about how to actually take care of a baby so please be forgiving.
TW: Blood, leg injury, a crying baby
Walking along a deserted street, a man in a hat was making his way toward tonight’s game. Based on his body language, you would think he didn’t want to go, but in honesty, he was tentatively looking forward to it.
“Oh my god, another person!!” The voice of a woman caught his attention, pulling his gaze away from the lights in the distance. As he looked over, he took note of how clean she was, all glow and innocence compared to the world around her- a new arrival, clearly. But what truly surprised him was the fact that she was carrying a sleeping baby in her arms. It was rare to come across a child here, much less a baby. Perhaps it was her’s, which was why she hadn’t abandoned it yet, “You wouldn’t happen to be this baby’s father, would you? Or at the very least have seen anyone who could possibly be their parents?”
So it wasn’t her’s. The man wondered how long it would be until she gave up on it.
“No, sorry. I’m on my way to a game, so if you’ll excuse me,” He tipped his hat and took a step, only to feel his arm grabbed.
“Wait, what game? Should I be heading there too?”
“You… don’t know about the games? Are you new here?” He already knew the answer, but no point in signaling that to her. She may end up a Heart Specialist and get into his head, after all.
“Yes, actually! One moment, I was going to meet up with my friends, and the next, the entirety of Shibuya was powered down and empty except me and this little one here,” So she’d walked all this way from Shibuya in just a few hours? Maybe a Spades Specialist, then.
“Well then you should come with me. We need to get you registered for a game so you don’t end up a day one victim.”
“Woah, what?? Day one victim??” The color drained from her face, before she grabbed his hand and began walking, “What and where is this game? Is it Trivial Pursuit? Because I’m really good at Trivial Pursuit! Wait, but that’s a one winner game and this is looking more and more like the set up for a death game manga but in real life,” She looked back at him, “Did I get stuck in a death game manga but in real life?”
“Um…” He didn’t really know how to respond to this woman. Regaining his wits, he caught up to her brisk pace and pointed in the direction of the lights, “See those lights? That’s where the closest game is. And, yes, you unfortunately did…”
“Brilliant, let’s go,” She still held onto his hand as they walked, confusing the man. They were complete strangers and he’d just told her that she was walking towards her probable death, yet she continued to hold his hand as though they were allies.
Walking up to the glowing tunnel, the man spotted the registration phones on a table, three of them already missing. The already registered participants were scattered nearby, looking at them strangely. Did they perhaps think he, this woman, and the baby were a family? The thought almost flustered him.
“So what do I do?” The woman asked him when they got over to the table, “Just take one of these phones?”
“Yes, here,” Handing her one, he watched as she tapped to turn it on.
“I don’t like the fact that this facial recognition already had me registered with an ID number,” She scoffed, putting the phone in her skirt’s pocket before hesitating, “Wait, do I need to register this baby too? I mean, obviously I’m not gonna abandon it, but… they’re a baby, they can’t really play a game.”
“No, unfortunately they need to be registered… Here,” Picking up another phone, he held it up to the face of the babe, the ping of the completed registration sounding a moment later, “You keep hold of this one too, since you’re holding the baby.”
“Alright, sounds good to me,” Placing the other phone in her pocket, she cooed at the baby, “You better hope this isn’t Trivial Pursuit or I’m gonna have to kick your butt, baby~ That’s right, that’s right~”
“Please don’t taunt the baby like that. It’s… unnerving…” Nervously pulling on his collar, the man was surprised when she just laughed.
“Sorry, I cope with stress by joking around…” She placed a hand on the back of her neck as they walked over to the others, “The only way this baby isn’t surviving is if it’d be better to do a mercy killing. Other than that, I’m fighting tooth and nail to make sure they get through this with me.”
“You for real??” One of the men closest to them, with spiked, pitch dark hair, scoffed, “You really think you can keep a baby alive here? Put yourself first if you wanna live, lady!”
“Come on, don’t say that!” The woman snapped back, before taking a breath and calming down, “Here, how about we start over and introduce ourselves?”
“This could be a Hearts game, or the rules could state we need to kill each other,” The only other woman there, a stark, gothic contrast to the Mori girl aesthetic of the woman with the baby, stated coldly, “I’ll pass.”
“One minute until registration closes,” A calm, female voice suddenly came from all of their phones, startling the woman with the baby.
“Huh?” Taking out her phone, she looked it over, “Guess it speaks too… These are my least favorite part of this nightmare so far,” Then, she took note of the camera app, “Ooh! Hey, wanna take a selfie?”
“You want to… take a selfie with me?” The man she’d arrived with questioned her, utterly befuddled by this woman.
“Yeah, come on! This might be the last chance we ever get to take a good picture!” Moving in close, she held up the phone, making sure to get both them and the still sleeping baby in the shot, “Awesome! Thanks for indulging my possibly last request!”
“You are way too chipper, lady,” A new man spoke as he walked up. Short cropped hair with designs buzzed into it and a mean face, this man screamed gangster. In reaction, the woman held the baby tighter.
“Entry has now closed,” The phones spoke again, “There are a total of seven participants. Please proceed into the tunnel.”
“I just hope it’s not Spades… I’m not very good at physical games…” The man in the hat grumbled, causing the woman to raise an eyebrow as they walked into the tunnel. About 100 feet in, the woman suddenly stopped, “What’s the matter?”
“I hear something…” Straining her ears for a moment, she suddenly looked up at the top of the tunnel’s entrance.
“Wha?! What the hell?!” Just as the words left spiky haired man’s lips, a barrier fell from the ceiling, creating debris and, more importantly, blocking them in.
“UWAAAHHH!!!!” The baby had woken up due to the world shaking from the force of the barrier’s impact with the ground, only for the woman to pull out a pacifier from her purse and stick it in the infant’s mouth.
“Thank goodness I thought to grab that…”
“W-We’re trapped in??” Goth woman shouted, panic taking over, “But that isn’t the standard!!”
“Guess they really don’t want us to be able to choose the coward’s way out this game…” Gangster guy placed his hand on the wall.
“ARGHH!!” Everyone’s attention was directed to the man in the hat, who was sitting on the ground, blood gushing from his leg, “Some rubble… it went into my leg!!”
“On no!!” The woman with the baby was the first to react, rushing over to him, “Hold the baby, we need to wrap this up and restrict the blood flow!”
“O-Okay…!” Carefully, he took the baby, doing his best not to shake as she took an extra baby blanket out of her bag and used it to create a makeshift cotton bandage.
As she worked, their phones chimed again- “The game will now commence. Difficulty: Four of Clubs. Game: Runaway. Rule: Endure the four trials and reach the goal within the time limit. Clear condition: Reach the goal safely.”
“Trials? Goal? What’s it talking about?” The goth woman mumbled.
“It looks like these are the trials it’s referring to…” At a man in glasses words, everyone turned around and saw what he meant.
In the floor, walls, and ceiling were various doors and hatches. The first door was in a wall, marked ‘Trial One,’ with a timer stating the lock released in fifteen minutes. Next to that, several round hatches labeled ‘Trial Two’ were going to release in thirty minutes. Trial Three’s vents in the ceiling were releasing in forty five, and Four’s hatch on the floor was set to release in an hour.
Spiky haired man noticed a placard on the wall by Door One, and walked over to inspect it.
“The distance to the goal is written here… But I can’t read the most important part. Damnit…” Sure enough, where the number should be, instead was worn down metal.
Looking down at the ground somberly, Glasses stated, “A conjecture… ‘Runaway’ means to flee… Something will come out of each of these four doors after a delay. Perhaps it means we should run towards the goal while running away? If the fourth lock opens after an hour, and we were to run for that amount of time, then the distance to the goal is around ten kilometers…”
“Ten??”
“Game… start.”
At that moment, the timers started counting down, and their phones switched to an hour long timer as well.
“Ten kilometers in an hour is cutting it too close! We can’t afford to waste a second!” With that, everyone save the woman with the baby and the man in the hat started running.
“Can you stand?” The woman asked him as she took the baby back, genuinely concerned about this stranger.
“With help, I think I should be able to…”
“Hey, you lot! Care to help a lady out??”
“I make no promises that I’ll hold on to you till the end…” The gangster helped lift the man to allow the woman to continue carrying the baby safely.
“Thank you in the meantime…” The man got out through labored breaths as they walked.
Within the first five minutes, everyone reached a bus covered in graffiti, the first car they had seen since the game began. By the time the man, woman, and gangster got there, it seemed their fellow players had exhausted it.
“There’s nothing here except junk, and it’s not going no matter how hard I hit the gas!!!” Spiky hair complained as glasses looked underneath the bus.
“The belt is cut, that’s why. Looks like this isn’t meant to be our method of transportation…” Getting up, he began running, “Looks like we have to run! We lost time here, so let’s hurry!”
“Gaaah!! I’m at my limit… There’s no way I could run…” The man in the hat groaned, “Don’t worry about me anymore, you all should hurry on ahead…”
“But-!”
“It’s like he says,” Goth woman cut off the other, “The first trial is about to start… In order to survive in these Borderlands, sometimes we have to do callous things. If you don’t learn that quick, you won’t be long for this world,” With that, she began running as well.
For a moment, the man, woman, and gangster didn’t move, until the gangster helped the man over to the first step of the bus and set him down before walking away.
“You too??” The woman angrily called out after him, “You’re going to desert us??”
“I tried helping… But now, things have changed…” He picked up speed, quickly catching up to the others.
“Selfish cowards!!” She yelled, shaking her fist at them. Sighing, she turned to the man, “Guess it’s just you and me, huh?”
“Are you sure? You should go run-”
“Nuh uh. I’ve decided I’m staying here, so I’m staying here,” Scooting around him, the woman gently placed the baby into the dip of the driver’s seat before helping the man up and to a seat so he could prop up his leg, “Let’s see…”
“What are you doing?” He raised an eyebrow as he watched her go up and down the bus.
“In order to slow the flow of blood more until we can get you help, we need to raise your leg. By doing that, the blood will- Here-” She took the baby and handed them to him again before looking around more, “The blood won’t be able to pump up there as fast, and it should give us some wiggle room.”
“You seem awfully knowledgeable about this. Are you perhaps a doctor?”
“Hah, no, I just remember a lot. Picked this up from a medical book I read when I was sixteen for fun. I’m actually a Masters student working towards simultaneous degrees in Psychology and Religion with a focus in cults,” Before the man could comment on how impressive that was, the woman sighed, “I’ve found a Japanese to English dictionary, a space heater, a set of keys that turn on this motionless bus, and a gum wrapper, but nothing to prop up your leg,” Sitting in the chair across the row from him, the woman took the baby back and gently bounced it, “Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens…”
“I’m sorry I’ve dragged you down with me…”
“Nonsense!” She waved her hand dismissively, “I’m not much of a runner, and I’ve got this little angel to look after. There’s no way I could run to some mysterious goal even if I wanted to. Besides…” Her eyes shifted back and forth before leaning in and dropping her voice as though they were being watched, “Something about this game is striking me as odd.”
“What do you mean?” The man leaned in as best as he could, voice dropping as well.
“Before I tell you my theory, could you explain what exactly the card level of this game means? You said you hoped this game wasn’t Spades because you weren’t good at physical games, while the woman stated we shouldn’t tell each other our names in case it was a Hearts game. That means the different suits represent different types of games, while the number represents how hard it is, right?”
“You picked that up quickly. Most people don’t realize that their first game, it generally takes someone explaining it to them their second or third game for them to get it,” Thinking for a moment, he nodded, “Very well, since we’re going to be here for at least an hour, I’ll tell you. Yes, the number on the card connotes how hard the game will be, with Ace being the easiest, while King is the hardest. As for the suits- Spades represent physical games, lots of moving around and exertion. Diamond games are intelligence and wit based games, and are the least physically demanding. If you were to find a game of Trivial Pursuit here, it would fall into that suit.”
“I see,” She sounded enraptured.
“Hearts,” He paused, considering his words, “They’re psychological games… They mess with your mind and your morals, and are widely regarded as the most brutal of the four suits. If possible, you do not want to join a Hearts game.”
“And Clubs?”
“Clubs games like this one refer to team battles and a mix of the other’s elements. It’s an unofficial rule that there is always a total win scenario, that it’s possible for all participants to make it out alive.”
“Then that puts us at an advantage!” She nodded decisively, “If Clubs are a team battle, then by sticking together, we have a better chance at survival!”
“But we’re just sitting in a bus?”
“Look mister, I’m trying to remain positive here, so if you could work with me a little?”
“Alright, alright,” The man put his hands up, chuckling. From the sound of it, it was an unfamiliar noise to come from his mouth, “We’re at an advantage because we stuck together while the others are only thinking of themselves.”
“That’s the spirit!” She held out her hand for a fist bump, which the man would have returned, had it not been for the bus suddenly lurching forward, “The hell??”
“UWAAHHH!!!” The motion woke up the baby again, but neither the man or the woman had time to calm them down again, as water was quickly rising around their enclosure and leaking in through some gaps in the windows.
“Oh no, you take Yuuji, I’ll stop the water!” Handing the baby to the man, the woman began to shed layers of clothes, using her jacket, cardigan, tights to plug the gaps. In the end, she was left in just a camisole and her torn up skirt, having even used parts of that to slow the water, “There, that should keep us relatively dry as long as the water goes down soon.”
“You called the child ‘Yuuji,’” The man commented, a bit surprised.
“Huh? I did, didn’t I?” Laughing sheepishly, the woman sat back down, “Don’t know why, they’re not my kid. I don’t even know if they’re male or female.”
“Well, I suppose they do look like a Yuuji,” He looked down at where he was bouncing the slightly calmer baby on his shoulder, “Can I ask why you chose to take this baby with you? You even grabbed their diaper bag.”
“Guess I felt bad about them being abandoned by their parents,” She shrugged, “Something just told me I needed to hold onto them and protect them; which makes no sense, given that it’s not like I grew up with great parental role models.”
“Maybe you just possess a natural maternal instinct, bad parents or not.”
“Who knows? Maybe you’re right.”
For several minutes, neither of them said anything as the man calmed down the baby, lulling them back to sleep.
“It seems as though the water is going down,” The man finally commented, the woman looking out the window to see that they were no longer surrounded.
“Yeah, but now it seems like the temperature is dropping fast!” The woman was right, the air was indeed getting colder, “I’ll go turn on that space heater before Yuuji wakes up again!”
“Sounds good to me.”
With the space heater on, the bus quickly warmed back up, keeping the baby asleep in the man’s arms.
“This cold must be the… how much time has passed?” Looking at her phone’s timer, the woman's brow furrowed, “Forty five minutes?? When the heck did the first trial happen??”
“We must have missed it somehow while we were talking.”
“Weird. Maybe it just passed right by us,” The woman didn’t let it bother her too much, just grateful to have not had to deal with it. Silence passed for a few more minutes as the woman held the baby, before she spoke again, “Okay, something’s been on my mind for the last half an hour, and I gotta know before we die… You were totally faking your personality when we got here, right?”
“H-Huh??” The man’s eyes widened, and he could feel his pulse quicken.
“Acting timid and stuff. Fake, right?”
“I… I…” Sighing, he looked her in the eyes, “How’d you know?”
“I sorta guessed around the time you told me about the suits. Your speech pattern started getting more eloquent, your sentences became longer, and you didn’t bat an eye at the fact that I’m working towards two Masters degrees at the same time. That last thing doesn’t really have to do with the timid thing, but it did tell me that you’re smarter than you seemed. That accident with your leg was very real, something you didn’t account for that truly did leave you near helpless; but before that, it was all strategy so we’d underestimate you in case this turned out to be a single winner game.”
“That’s… phenomenally impressive,” He stared at her in awe, “Why didn’t you say anything sooner?”
“Because I’ve been having fun talking with you and didn’t want to make it awkward,” Laughing, she shrugged, “But my natural curiosity got the better of me. I want to die with as few regrets as possible, and I’d regret not getting to see your actual personality,” Tears welled up in her eyes, and she kissed the top of the baby’s head, “I hope however this ends is clean and painless. I doubt it would happen, but if my family were to ever find my body, I wouldn’t want their last image of me to be tainted by something like decapitation, y’know?”
“Yes, I… I understand,” Moving closer, the man took the woman’s hand and squeezed it gently, “I promise you, if we survive this, I’ll do whatever I can to help you survive long enough to reunite with your family.”
“Aww, thanks,” She smiled sadly at him, “That means a lot. You’re a really nice guy, even if you are a crafty strategist.”
“I-”
KABOOM!!!!
An explosion violently shook the bus, causing the baby to once again wake up and cry.
“Quickly, on the ground!” The man pulled the woman and baby into his arms and got on the ground, shielding them with his body as the bus continued to shake. It seemed to go on forever, the shaking, as the bus grew warmer and warmer, far warmer than the heat the space heater would have been able to produce. But, finally, the shaking did stop, and the world became quiet outside of the baby’s cries, “Are you two alright?”
“Y-Yeah, I think so,” After she was helped up by the man, the woman grabbed the baby’s pacifier and returned it to their mouth, “That was the fourth trial, right?”
“I believe so,” He nodded, looking out the window, “All I can see are scorch marks, so I can’t tell, though.”
A little fanfare like tune emitting from their phones answered them, however.
“Game clear. Congratulations! To the survivors of the game, we will now supply you with a Visa.”
“G-Game clear?” The woman’s eyes widened in surprise, “You mean… we won? But that would mean…” Handing the baby to the man, she threw open the door to the bus and hopped out, running around the bus, almost immediately spotting the confirmation she sought, “The goal… It was the bus…”
“It was the bus??” The man limped out of the bus, handing the woman the baby due to feeling shaky as he saw what she’d found, “The graffiti… G-O-A-L… Dear lord…”
“Your injury saved us,” Tears flowed down the woman’s cheeks as she suddenly hugged the man, laughing almost manically, “It saved us! I don’t normally believe in luck, but tonight I think I’ll make an exception!”
“I can’t believe it, though! You were right!” The man laughed as well, “We stuck together as a team instead of only thinking of ourselves, and we survived!”
“Wait- oh no!” Pulling away, the woman frowned, “Those poor people that ran on ahead!! They… If the trials didn’t kill them, then… what did?”
“Anyone who breaks a rule like leaving an arena before the game is over or doesn’t achieve game clear… They’re struck down by a laser from the sky…” His words cause the woman to gasp, a hand covering her mouth, “I hope for their sake, their deaths were as clean and painless as the one you had wished for…”
Taking his hand, she squeezed it gently, “I’ll carry their memories with me, and push forward. As ill as they treated us, I can only hope that wherever they are, they find peace.”
“You’re an incredibly kind woman, Miss…?”
“Oh wow, we never did introduce ourselves, huh? If we’re gonna be sticking together, we should probably at least know the other’s name,” Wiping away her tears, she laughed, “My name is Y/N L/N, Y/A years old, Masters student, and guardian of this little angel until further notice. It’s nice to meet you, Mister…?”
“Kuzuryuu. Keiichi Kuzuryuu, 37 years old, attorney at law, and Diamond Specialist here in the Borderlands. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well, Miss L/N.”
“Please, we just nearly died together! You can call me Y/N. Mind if I call you Kuzu?” She looked at him so hopefully that he couldn’t find it in himself to refuse her.
“Alright, you may call me ‘Kuzu’… Y/N.”
“Excellent! Now let’s get out of this place! I’m tired and we need to get you off that leg.”
“I believe I saw a furniture store near here that we could use as shelter before finding something better tomorrow,” He offered as she helped him limp out of the tunnel, the barrier to the outside having been blown off in the explosion.
“Perfect, let’s go there. There’s some supplies to take care of Yuuji in this diaper bag I grabbed, but we’ll need to find some more tomorrow as well.”
“Sounds good to me.”
An hour later, as Y/N and Yuuji slept soundly in one of the spacious beds on display in the furniture store, Kuzuryuu stood outside and pulled out a walkie talkie.
“HQ, please respond. This is Four of Club’s observer, Kuzuryuu,” Taking off his hat, he pushed back his hair and slipped on his glasses, “Surviving players- two of six. Dispatch the cleanup squad to deal with the disposal of tools and materials.”
“Copy that, sir. Anything else?”
“Yes… Tell the others I won’t be back for a while,” He looked back through the doors to where Y/N and Yuuji slept, a small smile on his lips, “I have a player I’d like to place my bets on.”
