Coryo's new shoes were giving him blisters by the time he got out of the car outside the Citadel. Breaking in shoes was almost worse than dealing with the ill-fitting ones he wore before he was awarded the Plinth Prize.
Knowing what this meeting with Dr. Gaul was about didn't even calm him. He didn't like leaving you at home, although Tigris promised she wouldn't leave you alone. This meeting was about you, he was sure, though he hadn't been told specifically. Considering it is about you, he thought you should have at least been extended an invite.
Taking the spiral staircase down toward Dr. Gaul's lab, his shoulder begins to ache. The last time he was here, he was digging his fingers into his still-fresh stitches to tear them apart. He did it for you, but he still almost shudders at the aching reminder making itself present under his skin.
"I'm here to speak with Dr. Gaul, she requested my presence." He tells the staff at the desk, adjusting the front of his jacket. If he was going to plead a case for you, he had to look presentable. Put together. There should be no evidence that the time he spent in District Twelve rubbed off on him, that would just make him plain unreliable.
He feels the familiar buzz of the door to the woman's lab unlocking and he quickly thanks them, making his way in. Deep breaths. Remain calm, indifferent.
"Mister Snow." The familiar false cheeriness in Dr. Gaul's voice greets him from somewhere behind the shelves housing a variety of tank-bound experiments she had done. "I've been expecting you, come in."
Wordlessly he obeys, following her voice around a corner. "Dr. Gaul, it's good to see you."
She smiles, and even though he knows it's born from the same formality as his very own, he's almost tempted to feel welcomed. "How was your trip to Twelve?" She asks, returning her attention to the birds in the cages that lined the wall almost up to the high ceiling.
"It was good." He nods. "I learned a lot."
"I'm sure you did." She chuckles, and as he walks closer and gets a better look at the birds, he recognizes them.
Jabberjays.
You're walking through the trees in front of him, almost reaching the meadow. Coryo watches your dress as it flows with your every step, brushing against the back of your thighs and the plants that slide smoothly over the scars that adorned your calf.
It had become a daily routine that he was grateful for since the first day you brought him out to the same meadow. This is how he had pictured you from that very first day. It was exactly what he had come here for. You had made all that lost time worth it within a week.
He's pulled from the beautiful distraction that is you when you come to an abrupt stop, and he almost bumps into your back. 'What's wrong?' He wants to ask, but he doesn't even get the chance to form the words before you're quickly turning and holding a finger to your lips, signaling for him to be quiet.
He listens, but only because you're smiling. He stares at you as you look up and around into the tree line.
Your eyes light up as they find whatever they are searching for, and then you shift your gaze to his. "Watch this." You whisper, hardly audible.
What he doesn't anticipate following your emphasis on staying silent, is for you to raise your hands around your mouth and begin to shout.
"See how she leans her cheek upon her hand. Oh, that I were a glove upon that hand that I might touch that cheek!" You call out. A small smile pulls at his lips as he sees your eyes trained upwards once again, taking a small step back from him.
And then, in a sound that almost makes him jump, he hears your voice again. And again, and again, but it's not coming from your lips. He looks up.
"They're jabberjays." You tell him, smiling wide. "I know you don't like birds, but maybe these could change your mind."
Your voice coming from multiple places at once almost makes his head spin. "I'm not sure about that." He says, but his smile sticks.
"They're my favourite. I like to read to them, and they like to read back to me." You explain, turning to continue on your walk.
"My Juliet breathed such life with kisses on my lips," Coryo shouts, smile growing as you turn back around to face him again. Your eyes are crinkled with the smile you wouldn't dare to resist, building on a laugh at the shock of his sudden volume. "That I was revived and became an emperor!" With the final word his arms are raised, as if he's shouting from a rooftop- as if the world was listening and he truly was so powerful as the title implied. With you in front of him, that's just how he felt.
You laugh as his words echo back around you, pressing a hand to your chest and you shake your head. "Coryo-"
Then he's grabbing you around the waist, holding onto you tight as he spins you around. You scream, clinging onto him as your bag slides off your shoulder.
He lets your feet hit the ground as he stops, not yet ready to let you go as you stumble back. You're laughing in his ear, and he's sure he's never heard such a pleasant sound in his life.
You pull away slightly and he lets you, arms still draped over his shoulders. "That wasn't quite right." You giggle.
"What do you mean?" He asks teasingly. "That was just me. I just said that for the first time ever, I don't know what you could possibly be talking about."
"Oh, it sounded a little familiar, is all." You laugh, shaking your head. "But of course, I forgot that you are quite the poet, Coriolanus Snow."
"You underestimate me? I'm wounded." He laughs, mocking offense.
"My dearest apologies, sweet Romeo. That is but my own shortcomings projected onto you." The smile on your face and the sun beaming against your skin could have him convinced he'd died and gone to heaven.
"Shortcomings? My Juliet, that is quite impossible." He shakes his head slightly, smiling at the nickname. "You're perfect, in every way."
You kissed him again, and after a minute when he let you pull back, he was reborn as the emperor of those woods.
"Do you recognize these birds?" Dr. Gaul asks, snapping him away from the warm memory.
"I do." He confirms. "Jabberjays, yes?"
"Yes. They were a Capitol experiment during the war, they would listen to rebel discussions and repeat them back to us. The catalysts for many executions." She explains as he reads over the inscriptions on the front of the cages. "I am having them collected and sent back to see if we can repurpose them into something more useful."
Coryo doesn't say anything, really just waiting for her to get to the point. There was no use dancing around what he was here for, and he especially didn't want to talk about your favourite birds being removed from the Districts. How many of the birds in these very cages have recreated your beautiful voice reciting to them the story of Romeo and Juliet? If you were to go home, would there even be any left for you to read to?
"Anyway," Dr. Gaul claps her gloved hands together, walking away toward a desk and gesturing for him to follow. "I have a few questions for you. There are important things for us to discuss."
"What is this about?" He asks, knowing damn well why he was here.
"I was asked to review a late application for the university, which normally, would not be my responsibility." She states, eyeing him carefully. "I suspect you know why they would ask me to give them approval."
He nods. Dr. Gaul had been teaching at the university for years, he never knew how she had the time.
"Having a Victor apply for admission to the Capitols University was something I never thought I would see." She continues. "But, here we are. I admit, in any normal circumstance, she would be accepted immediately. The application was exceptional."
"She is extremely smart, yes."
"That is part of the problem."
"What problem?" He argues, but she raises a hand to stop him.
"Mister Snow, I thought you would better understand why that is not acceptable. If we allow a District girl to attend our university, that sets the precedent that she is equal to us. That if she can get out of District Twelve, so can they, and when we turn them down, there will be uprisings. I have discussed these concerns with the President, and he agrees."
Coryo resists the urge to roll his eyes. "What is the difference between her and Sejanus Plinth, then? He still tells people he's District. At least she wants to be here."
"Sejanus Plinth is Capitol, whether he likes it or not. I assure you, any friends he had in District Two are no longer fond of him."
"Then this is her chance to become one of us." Coriolanus states, reminding himself again to remain indifferent. "If a Victor of the games can attend the university, winning it will become more desirable. Tributes will actually try, they'll do the mentor's jobs for us if they think that being liked will buy them a win. District kids may very well line up around the block for the opportunity to win their families a better life."
"You're missing the point, Mister Snow." Dr. Gaul says, but he can see she is considering his statement. "We cannot hand these opportunities out to every Victor the games will ever have."
"Then don't." He replies simply. "Let them apply if they want, but they'll have nowhere to live, they won't be able to afford tuition, and none of them will ever be as smart as she is anyways. They won't be accepted. And if they are, we let them try."
She doesn't reply, a small smile growing on her lips.
"Besides, the Capitol isn't handing this to her. The only reason she can afford any of it is me. We can be picky about which, if any of them, we want on our side, but if we give her a chance, convince the Districts and her that she is now one of us, think of what she could do for the games. She understands them almost as well as you, and that could give us an advantage, having the willing perspective of the other side." He knew you would never go for this- of course he did. You couldn't even talk about the games without going pale and struggling to breathe. It ruined you- but she doesn't need to know that. He just needs her to let you stay.
"You make a compelling case for her." Dr. Gaul admits, pulling her gloves off and dropping them onto the desk that stands between them. "But why?"
This was a question he wasn't fully expecting, and luckily he was given more time to come up with an excuse when she spoke again.
"I also noted that on her application it says that she is living with you, yes?"
"Yes."
"Forgive my forwardness, but what is the extent of your relationship to your tribute?"
He sucks in a breath as her heterochromatic eyes stare into him. He wouldn't be shocked if he found out tomorrow that she could read his mind. "We are... friends. I suppose."
"Friends." She hums, eyebrow raised at him. "Then you must be a good friend to have, Coriolanus. Not a lot of friends would fund another's entire life on the Corso."
"Yes, well, like I said, I believe her education could benefit the games."
Dr. Gaul sighs, and he truly cannot tell if she believes him or not. "You may go. Her acceptance letter will be delivered tomorrow."
He nods, turning on his heel to leave. "But, Mister Snow," She stops him and he looks at her over her shoulder. "Don't forget who she really is."
A statement like that didn't dignify a response, so he just continued on. When he walks out of the Citadel to his waiting car, he lets himself smile. He couldn't wait for you to find out.
You were able to convince Tigris to let you out with Sejanus while Coryo was gone. You hadn't seen him since you left the train station, and you just had so much you wanted to talk to him about.
When he rang the doorbell, you were already waiting by the door. You look up at the sound of the buzzer, and Tigris smiles. "That's him." She tells you, walking over to the box on the wall. "If you want to answer the door, you press this button..." She presses it, and you hear static.
"Hi Sejanus, she'll be down in a minute." She says, and you smile when his voice returns.
"Okay, thanks Tigris."
She lets go of the button, smiling at you. "Okay, and if we wanted to unlock the door to let someone up, you press this other button." She points it out.
"Okay. I'll remember that." You promise.
"Oh! And when you come back, there's a panel of buttons outside the door, just press the one next to our name and we'll let you in."
"Thank you! See you in a bit!" You give her a quick wave before leaving.
The elevator was still new to you, but you were getting used to it quickly. This was the first time you had taken it alone, though, and the freedom was honestly exciting.
The elevator dings when you reach the first floor, and as the doors slide open smoothly you step out, the glass doors already in sight where Sejanus was waiting.
You wave excitedly and he smiles at you, giving you a brief wave back before you push the door open. "Hi!"
"Y/N, how are you?" He grins, wrapping his arms around you.
"I'm well." You sigh, arms around his neck. "How are you doing? I've missed you!"
"Fine." He answers, pulling away and guiding you down the stairs toward the black car waiting on the street. You pull up the scarf around your neck to cover the lower half of your face as you walk into view of the street, away from the cover of the building's walls. "To be honest, I am unsure if I was more disappointed or pleased that I didn't hear from you. I took it that you were still settling in, but I hope it's going well."
"It's certainly... going. A lot of things to get used to." You answer and he opens the car door for you, both of you sliding into the back seat. The Snow's had a car and a driver, but it seemed that Coryo enjoyed walking while you were still adjusting. He said it would help you learn better where you were going, he was likely right. "For example, I learned what an 'elevator' is."
Your friend laughs as the car begins to move. "I can imagine that would be confusing."
"Yes!" You giggle. "We got into this tiny room and they just stood there- I was absolutely baffled. They tried not to laugh at me too much, though."
"Now, have you heard of an escalator?" He asks, trying to hold back his laughter as you eye him suspiciously.
"No... Tell me more."
"You're lying!" You laugh as he opens the car door for you once more, stepping out again in an area you hadn't been in before. "Sejanus, I do not believe you. Why on earth would they be stair-shaped then?"
"Because they're too steep for it to just be a travelator, you'd fall."
"A travelator? No." You shake your head. "There is no way that there are three different ways to move from one place to another without just walking, that all have similarly abysmal names. That is ridiculous."
"This whole place is ridiculous." He agrees as you walk up onto the porch of what you assume is his family home. There are even trees in the yard, since it lays on what must be near the edge of the city.
"Can I ask you something?"
He hums as he unlocks the door. "Why do you not live in The Corso?" You ask. "Coryo told me that all the most powerful families live there, and he also said that your family is certainly among them."
"Uhhh..." He mumbles, looking around to make sure no one is too close to hear the somewhat invasive question as he shuts the door behind you. "My Ma liked the property. She liked a home rather than a stuffy penthouse- no offense."
"It wouldn't be my choice, either." You admit. "Alas, it's where I find myself. Not to say that their home is not lovely, I am happy there. It's just... it's nothing like home."
Sejanus nods, offering you a weak smile.
"I... I'm really glad you came back with us." You tell him quietly. "I don't know what I would have done here without you."
He clears his throat, giving a slight shake of his head. "My Ma made lunch, she's really excited for you to be here. Are you okay if we eat with her?"
"Of course, yes." You smile, following him deeper into the halls of a house that you could only describe as a castle.
"So, tell us everything, dear. How has your first week or so been?" His Ma asks, sitting across the table from you.
"It's been good." You smile. "I do have a question, though, and I trust that you will be honest with me." You say, glancing over at Sejanus with a small smile.
"Oh? What is it?" She asks.
"I just learned what an elevator is, and Sejanus told me about... what did you say they were called?"
"Escalators."
"Yes, and the other one?"
"A travelator?"
"Yes." You giggle, looking at his Ma again. "Is that real, or is he trying to pull the wool over my eyes?"
She laughs, putting down her glass. "Yes. They are real, but very rare. I highly doubt you should encounter either. And no one calls them travelators, so I do believe Sej was just trying to overwhelm you."
"Oh! Okay, well, thank you." You laugh, shaking your head. "I don't know what to believe, everything here is so... excessive. If that's the correct word."
"It absolutely is." Ma agrees. "It takes some getting used to. Some days I still get confused or overwhelmed, but it's all for the better I believe."
Sejanus tenses up, and you can see it out of the corner of your eye. "I think this will be better for my family, too. Though, I wish I could have brought them with me. Like you."
"That reminds me!" She says, leaning forward. You're glad- the topic of home can get heavy extremely quickly. Even you know that's not a suitable lunch conversation. "Sej told me you brought your cat, how is it doing?"
When Coryo gets back home, he's just excited to see you. He still has to keep quiet about what he actually went out for, but it will be worth it tomorrow when you see that you got accepted. You don't have to know that it's because he talked them into taking you- he knew you deserved it anyway.
"Tigris?" He calls out as he opens the door, already rethinking the details of the story he would give you.
"In here!" His cousin calls back from her room, and he follows her voice, peeking into the sitting room and then yours on his way there.
"How did it go?" She asks, and he frowns when he sees you weren't in there with her either.
"Where's Y/N?"
"She went out." Tigris smiles. "With Sejanus."
He scrunches up his nose. "Sejanus? He called?"
"Oh, no. She asked if she could call him so I showed her how to use the phone." She smiles. You hadn't had any use for it yet, considering that in correspondence from your family they said they haven't been able to get it installed just yet. He knew how anxiously you were waiting to be able to hear their voices again. "Then they got to talking and he invited her over for lunch, so I think she is just at their house."
"Oh. Okay."
"You look upset." She notes, standing up from her desk where she was putting together the final stitches on a new dress. "Is something wrong?"
"I didn't... I would have liked to know if she planned on going out. It's been hard enough for me to get her out of her room." He explains.
"At least she's getting out, isn't she? This is good for her. She needs to make other friends."
"Sejanus isn't 'other friends'. She was already friends with him."
"All the more reason for her to see him, then." She crosses her arms, dropping her head to the side. "This isn't like you."
"What isn't?"
"Being jealous."
"I'm not I just-" He sighs, lifting his hands up as he stops himself. "It doesn't matter. I talked Dr. Gaul into accepting her. The letter will be here tomorrow."
Tigris decides to drop the topic, the smile returning to her face. "Really?" She grins, hands coming up to her mouth. "Oh, Coryo that's wonderful!"
He smiles, the tension in his shoulders melting away as he nods. "But you can't tell her I spoke with them, okay? She won't like that."
"Yes, yes I won't tell her." She agrees, smiling as she hugs him. "Oh, she's going to be so happy. And I'm so proud of you for helping her. She deserves it."
"Yeah, she really does."

Hey! I’ve been viewing your stuff now and I agree with most of your Miraculous takes. I do have a question for you.
How do you feel about Adriachat’s habit of giving up his ring? A lot of people point to this as a way to criticize/salt on Adrichat about him being unfaithful and reckless. I’d only agree on the front that him leaving his ring out in the open in “Kuro Neko” was absolutely stupid and he should get push back for that. But as for everything else, it’s not so much that the him giving up the ring happens, but it doesn’t have a lasting impact. It really lasts for an episode and it’s used for dramatic effects.
If anything Adrien does didn't have a zero impact on anything there might be something here to analyze. But the thing with Adrien's actions is that they haven't had much if any followup since the early seasons. Like, Copycat is such an outlier as an episode specifically because it revolves around Adrien messing up and having to fix his mistake. I thought the conflict was kinda basic at the time but the latter seasons have made me remember the episode fondly because Adrien got to mess up in a way that had real consequences that he had to deal with, while in the later seasons he isn't even allowed to have feelings on anything, let alone act in any meaningful way.
But, like, let's pretend for a while that Miraculous is a normal superhero cartoon, where Adrien giving up his ring could have consequences. No, I don't think him leaving the ring, even out in the open, is stupid. It would only be stupid if we could reasonably expect Hawk Moth or someone working with him specifically to find it. Any other citizen would be far more likely to join forces with / give it to Ladybug. Hawk Moth doesn't leave his lair often, and Syren didn't want to leave the advantage being underwater gave her. Adrien left or would have left the ring where Ladybug would obviously be a little bit later.
We also have to take into account how Adrien is treated by his teammate and their mentor. Neither of them really listens to him, and Fu refuses to see him or let him know where he lives. He also isn't allowed to know where Ladybug lives. There is no safe, undercover way for Adrien to deliver the ring to Ladybug or Fu unless he wants to break the one rule they have been very adamant he obeys: he must not reveal his secret identity. Like, the level Adrien follows this directive is so absolute that the only time he broke it was when Ladybug, who was his leader at the time, told him to in Ephemereal.
Adrien has no control over anything that happens in their hero team, and he's equipped with the power that is always the biggest burden in superhero media: destruction. Adrien gets no support in this, from anyone. All he gets are orders and stonewalling. Adrien giving up on his ring when he's been told in actions or words that he is 1) not trusted, 2) not appreciated and 3) not wanted around is not a selfish act. He thinks he's doing Ladybug and Fu a favor, because they rarely if ever give the impression that they trust, appreciate or want him. They just want someone to use the Black Cat ring, so he leaves them with what they value the most when he finally self destructs from the pressure. It's not like he can go to them with his mental breakdown.
Giving up the ring is the only form of protest Adrien has in a situation where he has no power. I will not criticize him for using it when it's the only thing that makes Ladybug and Fu listen to him. Especially since it's not the ultimatum salters make it out to be, it's not "do what I say or the world perishes", it's merely "you can hire someone else from your numerous allies to fill my role, I'm done". If your boss mistreats you, everyone will tell you to quit, no matter how essential your job is.

I want someone (not me) to write a Bodyguard!Sladick fic - but in a very specific way (I'll probs end up writing this unless someone beats me to it (pls beat me to it someone, I can't commit to another WIP))
Basically, someone kills Bruce Wayne. And not because he's batman, but because he's rich af and refuses to sell his land in Gotham (bc yk, bro can't sell the fucking batcave and all his safe houses full of Batmerch). But no one knows who killed Bruce and why but they all believe it's because they found out Batman's identity and needed him out of the way for something.
21 year old Dick Grayson, who hasn't spoken to Bruce or had anything to do with the Batfam for two years, is asked to come back for Bruce's funeral and reading of the Will. Turns out, Bruce left everything - and I mean everything; cape and all - to Dick. Dick is now The Batman, the leader of the JL, the billionaire, the CEO of Wayne Enterprises, and also the legal guardian of not one, not two, but three kids. Jason and Tim was understandable, but Bruce never mentioned to Dick about having a kid with Talia al Ghul of all people. In all fairness, Damian was only dropped off at Bruce's feet two months ago. (Note that I'm fucking around with the Batboy's ages. Thus, Jason is 16 (bro died young), Tim is 14(bro was crazy stalking so young), and Damian in 9(bro is just young))
The killer, however, is still at large, and is now targeting Dick, the new Prince of Gotham, and his kids. But Batman (Dick) can't get involved just yet, the Batfam don't know what exactly the killers knows about them and Batman - it's too risky. But Dick can't just not do anything. So he calls the one person he knows will keep his family safe - for the right price, obvs.
Dick has money to play with and Slade loves a good game.
Basically they make a contract that issues Deathstroke as the bodyguard of the Grayson-Wayne Family until Bruce's killer is handled.
Only, Slade comes with his own baggage (aka a 9 yr old Rose Wilson) and Dick is stuck training (aka raising) another kid. But that's fine, because Slade ends up being less of Dick's bodyguard (let's face it, the kid can handle himself), and more of Dick's bodyguard-with-benefits/mentor/business partner/mental-support-bestie/drinking-buddy/private-chef/co-parent/stay-at-home-husband/love-of-his-life.
They get very domestic in this fic. And Slade has to wear a three-piece suit when following Dick around as he plays Gotham's Billion Dollar Prince and Dick can't stop riding him in the back of the Batmobile because Slade looks waaaaay too good in a suit.
But raising kids is hard, especially when you're 21. So Dick faces a lot of challenges in this fic - like his undead brother, Jason, trying to come to terms with Bruce dying right after they started to mend their relationship, and Tim who was just recently fired as Robin after one simple mistake, and his new rage at Bruce for that and dying (he refuses to believe his dead), and fuck - the nine year old assassin and grandson of Ra's al Ghul, Damian, who never truly had the pleasure (misfortune?) of knowing his father. Than there's Rose Wilson, who doesn't really know English all that well and is dealing with the trauma of watching her mother die before her.
So Dick has to really step up - as a business man, as a leader, as Batman, and as a father.
Luckily he's got Slade, who fuck's like he fights. It tuff that Dick is quickly falling in love with Slade, and Rose, who he can't help but see as his kid, too.
Oh I love this idea so much, its great!! I would love to read it as well ahaha and I might write something 👀👀 but it's a big project so I wouldn't be able to do the whole thing
But you can let me know if you have any fav/special scene in mind (or a few 😌) and I might write it. You can also check out my commission info if that's what you'd preffer and you're able to afford it!
I love bodyguard Slade stories, I'm a sucker for those honestly haha and I love how here he's protecting not only Dick but the whole family. And its just so delicious that Dick hasn't talked to Bruce in so long and now he's thrown back into his life- but Bruce is dead and Dick has to take on the mantle and help the city and raise three kids and keep them all alive and not go crazy and-
I love that you're making it even more messy and difficult for Dick by putting Rose in the middle of it too lmao. I can already imagine all the trouble the family would have together
Slade wearing a three piece is a sight and I don't blame Dick at all 🙈🙈 But seriously, I adore their relationship in this, it's so complex and complicated. I can imagine them bonding over some whisky when the kids are deep asleep and Dick getting frustrated with what his life is now and Slade just letting him cry while holding him close AGHH SO GOOD
Thank you for sharing! Again, its a great idea and I'd love to play with it a bit if you allow me 🤗💕

Hello! Apologies if this is a bit too specific but I was wondering if you could a heket x reader where the reader is similar to the fox demon, but they use deals as a way to try to flirt. Heket normally chases them off and just generally sees them as a nuisance. Eventually Heket stops because she has better things to do and the Reader doesn't really seem like a danger, they begin to talk and the feelings build up from there.
"So you've returned to pester me, foul fox..."
"Good evening to you, too, Lady Heket." Your voice, low and sultry, rumbled with a deep chuckle as you looked upon the Bishop of Famine standing on the pier with a piercing gaze. "You know, anger doesn't suit you, dearest. Must you always be so cruel towards me?"
As she struggled to come up with a response, your cheeky grin never wavered for a moment.
You'd teasingly ask if the cat caught her tongue..but given her history with a certain feline, that wasn't the most appropriate joke to make. Not even you would go that far.
"Cruel? Hah, you haven't seen me be "cruel" one bit." She scoffed, gently tugging on her bandages. "You infuriate me."
"How so?"
"...because I know you foxes and your deceptive ways. One had visited me long ago, promising me an artifact others would kill for...and gave me such an unfair price. You know what he wanted?"
You shook your head, curious.
"He wanted my best menticide mushroom farmer. And all he gave me in return was a tiny piece of the artifact! A worthless rock!" She snarled. "Then he expects me to come back and offer him more of my own followers to "complete" it...but I refused and threw the damn thing back at him."
"Ohhh..surely you don't mean my mentor, the Teeth of Darkness..do you?" You blinked in realization, though the persistent scowl on her face told you all. "I see now. But as a whole, the Holy Talisman is actually quite valuable. Pity you refused his deal..it could have turned the tide in your favor against the little Lamb."
"..well, I didn't wanna waste my time begging for bits and pieces of rock. And I'm not gonna waste my time chasing you out of my domain."
"Awh, so you want me to stay?"
"N-No! That's not what I...!!!"
Seeing her frustration made you chuckle softly.
Of course, it now made sense why she was especially arrogant with your species--particularly the ones who did this sort of work. The Teeth of Darkness guided you into this practice long ago, teaching you how to become one with the shadows and bargain with clueless folks around the Old Faith without stirring up too much attention from the Bishops.
And clearly...you failed when it came to Heket.
You were negotiating something with Eligos when she suddenly appeared and immediately chased you out of Anura, ordering you to never come back lest there be consequences.
Yet she didn't frighten you, but rather intrigued you.
Not even the Yellow Crown's power could stop you from coming back and going anywhere in Aura you wished. So you've set your sights on her, beckoning her to the marshes where you would manifest from the darkness every once in a while.
Your favorite spot became this very pier, where you learned she often came here if she needed time to think or reflect on her duties.
Yet time and time again...she would shoo you away, and until now you never fully understood why.
Your deals were hardly anything of material value. All you really asked for was a simple smile, but you'd get a frown instead; if you gave her a compliment, she'd insult you in return.
She acts disgusted by your "promiscuous" remarks...but the cover of night doesn't do much to hide her growing blush every time she turns her face away from you.
She's called you a stalker on countless occasions, though you take no offense to it.
Could she really blame you when she stood in the discreet places where you've frequently bartered with other folks? Could she blame you if she never bothered to find a different spot?
This time around, she didn't lash her tongue out or try chasing you away with vile threats. Maybe she was finally understanding that you're not threatening her cult or anything of the sort.
You're just really annoying. A nuisance. An intrusion on her quiet night away from the temple.
"I'm here to make you a genuine offer." You spoke. "You are under no obligation to agree, but it would mean the world to me if you at least listened to it in full."
Heket was silent for a few moments.
Maybe for once..she'll entertain your proposal. It's not like she could just refuse. You might just come back here some other night and offer the same damn thing.
She nodded. "Go on."
"Thank you, dearest. I shall give you my name..in exchange for a small favor from you. Nothing to do with your loyal followers if that's what you fear."
Although she didn't really care to know your name all that much, part of her couldn't help but be slightly curious. So she allowed you to continue, hoping she won't regret it.
"Allow me to walk you back to your great temple, and we can talk and become more..acquainted with each other beyond our negotiations. You may find that not all of us foxes are sly and cunning dealers. What say you?"
She blinked in disbelief.
That definitely isn't what she expected.
"That's it? You just wanna see Anura? You know we can just warp-"
"Oh I know of your little summoning circles, dear bishop. I have seen it all." You answered with a smaller smile. "But I think a small walk together would be most delightful. I sense a certain loneliness in you, especially on this night...so perhaps you'll enjoy the company of an outsider."
Heket scoffed, unsure why her thorny heart felt so warm inside all of the sudden. "We bishops admonish outsiders who refuse to join us..like Sozo and the Mushroomos. They are rotten thieves, praising him when they should be praising me for enabling their addictions."
A soft laugh escaped you. "Well lucky am I not to have a mushroom atop my head. So..do you accept this offer? We could always discuss how to deal with them down the road if you desire."
"....fine. We have a deal, fox." She grumbled. Although she didn't have much to gain from this, she had nothing to lose either.
You, on the other hand, were most delighted that she was finally giving you a chance. Your persistence has paid off well. "Excellent! From now on, you may call me [y/n]."
"Alright, [y/n]. Let's get going."
"Haha..hasty, aren't we? Very well." You floated closer to the pier, eventually stepping on the boardwalk and approaching Heket. A black cloak enveloped your body, with the tip of your fluffy tail slightly peeking out from underneath, dragging behind you.
She couldn't help but notice it wagging in eagerness, and she had to mentally slap herself so she'd stop staring.
You were a bit shorter than she anticipated. Perhaps it was merely a trick of the shadows that made you so imposing.
"Thank you, my Lady." After putting your hood down, you bowed your head respectfully, before gazing up at her. "You lead the way, and I'll follow."
"..are you giving me orders?"
"Is leading not what you do best as a bishop?"
Despite her silence after that, her agreement to let you hold onto her arm and lead you through Anura spoke louder than any word she could've said.
You could see her becoming more relaxed the longer you both walked, with you chatting about the things you admired about Anura. Not to mention her hold on you unconsciously tightening whenever it was her turn to speak..more notably when she talked about her siblings with feelings of melancholy.
This time, there was no hiding the light blush that dusted her face, even with most of her flesh being red enough to conceal it.
Indeed, you've turned this hardened frog into a softie.

UUUUAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH LIKE. LIKE. Okay so, because I have no idea where to start, I'm just going in Book order for now. I esppp needed the refresh on the prologue. Also because I am just. This Fucking Close. To actually making a whole ass timeline of Events for Moe. I have a plethora of rough ideas in my head, things that are important to me, but will be extremely difficult to pull off all simultaneously ESP bc in true Alfonsecore fashion, a lot of things. Are just contradicting each other. Here.
But that's not the reason why I'm complaining. No. The REASON I've come back so soon to scream out in agony is because. This is supposed to be for my Alfonse quotes blog bit. And a study. Ect. Okay.
But as Soon. As SOON as Sharena hit the scene. Dude I'm gonna thrup I can't just OMIT her FUCKING DIALOGUE...... not only is she a cutie patootie but like. Her voice IS easier to come up with on the fly, because she's so casual. But. I Feel Like. And I have been feeling this way for quite some time actually. I NEED to capture her voice better, too. Because even though she's more casually spoken than Alfonse, she has this like. Whimsical and almost eccentric air to her. And she still has moments of "proper" speech patterns too, like. She has a VERY funky combination of being so personable and easygoing that you forget she's a princess, BUT! You sort of get the sense that she was raised a very specific way. For better or worse.
About to run in circles real bad and not even get to my point, but. I'm writing all this down in a notebook, btw, just seems like the easiest way as someone who doesn't have a computer (to be able to do two things at once, yeah I'll have to type all that shut out later BUT it's part of the Process).
NOT MAKING SENSE OR ANY POINTS. ALL OVER THE PLACE. BUT. If I don't have her dialogue at very least in this notebook I'm gonna thrup. ESPPPP as someone who's main focus really is just. The family dynamics. Like. My area of focus is SUPER narrow in that and I struggle to expand outside of it
AS AN ASIDE. LIKE. I DO FEEL LIKE. IN ALL OF THIS. I really should study Anna too. She really does hold the group together. And I'm very much thinking about the specific roles charas like Senshi and Chilchuck play in Dungeon Meshi actually. Chilchuck is a literal dad, and that does often bleed into his dynamics with his party members, BUT. He is like World's Most Number #1 Professional Work-Life Balance Business Man. It would be extremely reductive and a disservice to his character to just slot him into being "the group's dad", because. His whole DEAL is that separation of work and private life, how important that is to him. Meanwhile Senshi feels harder to place, in this category, but I feel like he plays a similar role. He's a mentor. He has skills and a lifestyle he's passionate about. What really is making me think this though, slotting him here, is near the end of Dungeon Meshi where everyone is thinking about what they want to do next. Senshi had a good time with Laois and company, but now he's thinking he wants to spend some time alone. LIKE.... I AM. STRUGGLING. TO MAKE A POINT HERE. BUT. No matter how much of a fatherly or even older brother role (esp in the way his old closest party member was, to him) he takes on, at the end of the day. We created some good memories and lasting bonds, but it also just feels factually incorrect to say "found family", here? He's a mentor. And at the end of the journey, he just wants to do his own thing again.
RAMBLING. SO BADLY. BUT. I FEEL LIKE. ESPPPPPPP in how absolutely VITAL both Chilchuck and Senshi ARE in rounding out the party dynamic. I feel like Anna plays that similar role. Keeping everyone together, professional style, mentor style. It is quite literally her job!!!!!!!
AAAUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY BRAIN. SOUP BRAIN. But the point of that ramble was acknowledging that characters like that are SO important to round out a cast. But again, my focus and vision is just so, so narrow. I really struggle with anything outside of it!!!!!!!! Esp bc I feel like in my own life if I'm interacting w someone in a professional manner, it just. Begins and ends there. Each of us have a role to play to perform the intended task to achieve the desired result. No matter how much I trust or am fond of someone in that context, I keep a degree of depersonalization and detachment. Doctor, patient. My task is to give you the information you need to perform YOUR task. Therapist, client. The very same. I have not been employed for several years. But that attitude is still there, with maybe a dash (or a heaping helping) of questioning of authority in there. As you do.
......... You are looking directly into my brain. It is such a mess, in here. You are watching me pace from the living room to the kitchen from the kitchen to the living room and so on, talking to myself. Is there anything worthwhile, in here? I'm talking at a rubber duckie. Throwing darts at the corkboard that's tangled in a web of red string of seemingly unconnected topics. Can anybody hear me. Hello........
IN SHORT I think at very least for my notebook I have to write down Sharena's dialogue, too. I WILL start crying if I exclude her. It is for the very same reason my Alfonse folder on my phone is also my Sharena folder. Do NOT separate them. They are A SET. Also some vague thoughts about Anna and how I really struggle to write anything that's outside of a familial or familially-coded context. But having those other flavors of bonds really do flesh everything out and like. Well when I try and think outside of my very narrow tunnel vision I just
All of that is just a lot of words to say I love Sharena with all my heart anf I'm gonna be unwell if she isn't At Least in the notebook, idk if I'll do anything w the dialogue I'm recording there outside of just. Studying it I fucking guess. And also, when it comes to Anna, just. Skill issue. Of some sort. But I am Thinking About It. For the sake of a well-rounded cast of characters...........

Hey so I ended up making a good amount of Headcanons for the Rito in Wind Waker, and I wanted to share them with y'all.
This came about while writing for my Wind fic focusing on the obscene amount of father figures he has (check it out here). This chapter was focused on Quill, and while I was developing their relationship, I ended up developing a decent amount of internal lore for the Rito, and I couldn't fit them all in the fic
So, I'm putting them so people can see it, and if people like em, they can hopefully use it for themselves, or expand on them, or just tell me what their own HCs are, or what they would change. I love the Rito, especially Wind Waker's, and I had so much fun doing this.
Just a quick disclaimer, I am not any sort of anthropologist, or linguist, or anything, so if I disrespect any real-world race or culture with this, I am really sorry. Please let me know if I misrepresent something so I can learn from it and change whatever is wrong.
HCs under the cut:
Tribe
It's all but confirmed that the Rito were evolved from the Zora, who were forced to evolve due to the unlivable water of the Great Flood. This colours a lot my headcanons about the Rio's values, traditions, and relations.
It is hard for the Rito to call any one place their home, since they lost theirs in the flood.
Their flight is important to them threefold: It's the gift theyr were given by Valoo in order to survive the flood, it gives them the freedom to explore around when they feel the loss of their home, and it's the closest thing they have to the freedom of swimming.
It's why the sky, their flight, and Valoo is all so important ot them.
Their connection to Valoo is why they call Dragon Roost home, although to them, it's more like a common hub, or home base. Most Rito don't actually have a set home, instead they travel around between place to place. It's why the Rito as delivery workers works so well for them.
Along with losing their home, the Rito also lost a lot of their culture. This causes them to be very protective of what they have now, rarely letting others take part in their actual traditions.
It's why Link (Wind) being a part of their family is such a big deal; hes one of the only Hylians to actually be accepted as a Rito¹ (the idea of Link being a Rito will come up later)
As a part of their culture and their worship of the sky as their new freedom, they revere Zephos and Cyclos, even more than sailor of the Great Sea do. A lot of their rituals focus on the Wind Gods.
They have always worshiped Zephos, but Cyclos was lost to time. When they were reminded of his existence, they were horrified that they might have lost more of their culture, but were quick to reinstate Cyclos as a deity, and they do celebrate him now.
Relations
To the Rito as a Tribe, relations to each other are everything. Everyone who is a Rito is connected on some way to the other Rito.
You are defined by your connections to the other Rito. Unless you're the ruler of the Rito, then you are your connections.
You are your mother's daughter - you are the fathger of your son - you are best friend, the partner, the beloved, and they are yours.
As relationships are the biggest way to define who you are as a Rito, it is possible for people who were not born as Rito to be a part of the tribe. There are very few non-species Rito, as they are protective of their identity, but it is possible.
¹This is why Link (Wind) is a Rito. He is defined by his relationships to the Rito: specifically Quill, Medli, and Komali. He is Quill's beloved, and Quill is Link's guardian. He is Medli's mentor, and she is his sage. He is Komali's chosen, and Komali is his partner (komalink truthers rise up).
Feathers are important in defining those relationships. If you are close enough to be defined by a relationship, then you given a feather from the other to keep those relationships.
Most Rito would weave those feathers into their wings, although they would be placed in a way that they could get removed easily. Most Rito only wear their feathers during formal events or festivals, although some wear them at all times.
In Link's case, he has 3 feathers, one from Quill, Medli, and Komali. Link has two feather sets - one which is a loose set of feathers he can braid into his hair, and one in a solid set of 3 which he can place behind his ear.
Language
I did not come up with a full language for the Rito. What I did develop was a base which to base the Rito language off of , and a way to buid off of it in the future as necessary.
One major thing is that the language isn't a full language, for every single word. Another thing they lost in the flood was their language, only bits and pieces of it remaining as they evolved.
What was left was a descriptive language; where words are used to describe larger concepts.
Speaking and Writing in Rito involves using Rito Language and Common/Hylian simultaneously, using words from both to describe full sentences.
The Rito Language itself is a Agglutinative Language. What that means, is that words are formed by merging syllaybles, where every syllable has a unique meaning, and the combinations of syllables make words which are defined by the syllables meanings.
Words tend not to have direct Common/Hylian translations; instead syllables have meanings, and their relationships to each other define concepts.
Concepts and words tend not to exist until invented; they are all based on the same syllables which all share meanings, or different combinations arte invented when needed, and understood when told.
As an example, I'll share the two invented words in my fic - Towaki and Towaveh - divided in syllables as: To, Wa, Ki, and Veh.
To: shortening of Rito
Wa: Love (non-superficial)
Ki: Mine (ownership)
Veh: Theirs (ownership)
Towaki: They are my beloved.
Towaveh: I am their beloved.
Festivals
The two biggest celebrations in Rito Culture are Ballad's Day and Requiems's Day, named after the Wind's Requiem and the Ballad of Gales. The two celebrations are six months apart, and each happen once a year.
Ballad's Day celebrates Cyclos, and Requiem's Day celebrates Zephos. Both festivals consist of three phases.
The first phase is meant for Valoo's attendant and the current Rito ruler. The two ascend Dragon Roost Island and request a scale from Valoo, to give to the Wind Gods in offering.
The second phase has Valoo's attendant, and the upcoming ruler (if one is not born, the current ruler) partaking in a ritual involving a performance of either the Wind's Requiem or the Ballad of Gales to offer the scale to the celebrated deity to ask for favourable winds n front of all of the gathered Rito² (There is nuance as to who is currently involved during Wind Waker's time, which I will explain later)
The third phase is a celebration: Every Rito who can make it for the festivals gather for a large feast. More than the second phase, this is Zephos and Cyclos' favourite part, as it makes them happy to see their worshippers happy.
These two days are some of the only days where almost every Rito comes back to Dragon Roost. These days are the best times to catch up with the various other Rito, as it's the only times all of the Rito see each other.
This aspect of the festival is just as important as the offering to the deities, since their relations to each other are so important, and their need to travel makes it so they can;t see each other often.
²In the Wind Waker's time, the people who participate in the ritual are Komali, Medli, and Link. Komali and Medli are a given, as they're the upcoming ruler and current attendant, but Medli is also the Wind Sage. Her music is powerful magically, and even more so when conducted by Link.
Link's inclusion on the ritual is threefold. He is partially a mentor for Medli, and will help her with her part in the ritual. He is Komali's chosen (komalink truthers rise up), so he is also connected to the upcoming ruler. He is the Hero of Winds, and they are the Wind Gods. Although he wasn't destined to be one from Hylia, he was chosen by Zephos and accepted by Cyclos.
His relations to the Rito involved and the gods make him an important part of the ritual. For Cyclos, he also just wants Link specifically to be there, as he is the one who brought the deity back into the Rito's ritual. Zephos is okay if Link misses the ritual, Cyclos basically requires it.
That's all I have for now! Lemme know what y'all think, if it's good, if this makes sense, or what other HCs y'all have! I love the Rito and would just love to talk more about them!
<3

I have ideas. Fuck
I honestly just wanted to talk about two different alternate universes I've come up with and genuinely, I can't get enough of it right now- but because I've barely talked about one of these, I figured this would be a fun way to continue! (and the other one's new, but we're going to talk about it anyway-)
Fair warning! This post is going to get a bit long!
Internverse / Intern! Randy
So, for anyone who isn't already aware of this idea- it follows an alternate take on canon because why the fuck not, where Viceroy enacts a new plan to capture the Ninja. The plan is to use an internship program in order to have one of the students reveal the Ninja's identity- as Randy's poor luck would have it, he is accepted as an intern by almost cartoon logic (except for the fact he does know math and excels in it-). Unfortunately for him, he has to ride out the internship or risk revealing himself to McFist and Viceroy- at some point, things start connecting and we'll see what happens after that!
This is the most lighthearted it will ever get with my AU's (although this one was inspired from another creator!), because even my MLP AU is an angsty little bitch
The deal with intern! Randy is it's mostly my excuse to explore on a slightly more serious but fairly tame and soft outlook on the series- also because McFist and Viceroy should've had more screen-time with Randy as a civilian, it's just fucking hilarious to me- (and yk, mentor-mentee type thing with Viceroy, no I will not explain /lh). I feel this au might honestly be an actual identity reveal since neither McFist and Viceroy know he's a teenager (like yes they technically know in canon, but also this is my fic and what i say goes /lh).
Though, I'm going to cover an arrangement of headcanons and general infodumping for intern! Randy because now I'm hooked, oopsie lmao
Randy is a math prodigy! Does this have any true canon basis to it? No- but I'm going to write it anyway hahah, also just- you can't tell me he isn't extremely talented in music (though that's not as relevant)
His parents are extremely absent in his life- he has issues with other people trying to parent him because of this. In his eyes, they're going to leave him eventually except for the Weinerman's, they're practically family but he's also worried about being a constant nusiance
In no way do McFist and Viceroy know that the Ninja is a teenager- Viceroy's the only one who has made the connection that the Ninja likely changes but hasn't quite reached the thought of them being a teenager because that would be ridiculous
Howard isn't a very used character in this, but he still appears nonetheless- he's not an easy character for me to write, but unfortunately my tengu! Howard fic doesn't really count hahaha
McFist and Viceroy have Something going on but it's not romantic! Unless McFist wasn't married to Marci- then that's another can of worms, but we're not doing that here
Bash and Randy might honestly become friends because I said so,
I like to think the Sorcerer isn't a heavily major character in this, and simply stays in the background- not because he got defeated, but genuinely I just don't consider him important. I don't think he'd notice anything strange about Randy either
Randy is inattentive ADHD! I also have ADHD and so, he will be written with my mannerisms more than likely- one of his hyperfixations is video games and I'm still trying to decide what the other is. He also has RSD for ahems- reasons, you will find out why soon!
Randy is going to be staying at the manor with the McFist family because well, why not-
And then we have the new au! It doesn't currently have a name- other than the fact it's literally just an age/role-swap AU!
More specifically, we have a switch between Randy and Finja, as well as "Plop Plop"/Hinata and Howard- it's been done before I think, but honestly I'm hopping on the train as well!
General Role Swap Infodump
Randy and the First Ninja trade places (obviously-). Randy's clan fought monsters in general, yokai who were a threat to Norrisville and other lands- until the Sorcerer came into being. In the end, Randy was the last one standing - forced to bear witness to what was a literal massacre killing of his entire clan - and decided he would find a way to trap the Sorcerer into a prison of his own design. With the help of a magical artifact, he did manage to do this. A few years went by and he continued protecting Norrisville- until he was unfortunately cursed (or something, i haven't quite figured it out yet-) and bound to the Nomicon
On the other hand, we have the First Ninja (who's name is not being revealed yet-); set in a more modern timeline, debating if it's the same as Randy's or current time period- the First Ninja comes from quite a big family (he has eight siblings, but they're not all the same age!) and is attending Norrisville High School. He's kind of like a feral cat- he isn't too fond of making friends and the only one who puts up with his nonsense is Hinata, his best friend
Over the summer, First Ninja was chosen to be the Ninja- he manages to keep it hidden and unlike Randy, he doesn't go blabbing about it in his writing assignment. He takes his responsibility seriously, even if he isn't necessarily eager to have gotten the role
At first, he and Randy don't meet- it's either going to be an episode adjacent to the 13th Century Ninja, or it's going to be something entirely original! I honestly think Finja is likely skeptical of Randy's teaching methods but eventually they start bonding and things take an interesting turn after that
As for Howard, I don't think he's simply the guardian of the temple- He's bound to the tengu spirit and is quite literally immortal. He exists both within the Nomicon and outside of it, but he is essentially Attack Dog privileges. No, I will not explain right now-
Finja has extremely short patience. He's prone to sarcastic fits and would rather do Literally Anything Else, but he understands that the Nomicon chose him-
Uh, the Norisu clan run their own dojos and whatnot because I said so but like, with Finja's siblings- they've all mastered their own elements and due to self indulgent bullshit, I can elaborate more on this but in a separate post. Let's just say there's more to this AU, that's all I'm going to mention right now. I'm fixating hard and it is a problem
I don't have more to add for this AU right now- other than Hinata likely won't be controlled by the tengu? I'm not entirely sure right now because this idea might as well have come to me in a dream hahah
I hope you enjoyed! More will come eventually!

When I watched Amphibia, I kinda had a hard time understanding how certain headcanons were developed in the fandom. Especially Grime being Sasha's 'toad dad' and Olivia and Yunan being Marcy's 'newt moms.'
Like...by the end of the series, I totally bought Sasha and Grime as close friends (heck, they sold me as friends partway through season two), but Grime never gave 'adoptive dad' vibes to me. Putting aside the fact Grime's the reason Sasha spent her first month in Amphibia in a cell, he's also a pretty toxic influence on her, indulging her worst traits and only really improving as a person when he and Sasha form the resistance in season three.
And I'm confident viewers only started the 'newt moms' headcanon because of the episode Olivia & Yunan. Which is pretty ironic, since in that episode, Yunan initially objects to saving Marcy (she didn't even refer to Marcy by her name, just 'the human' XD), and like you said, Olivia explicitly states she's motivated to save Marcy because she trusts her and thinks her intelligence will help them defeat Andrias, not because Marcy is someone she's emotionally attached to.
Sure, in The Hardest Thing, Olivia and Yunan hug Marcy goodbye, so there was clearly some fondness for her by the end, but nowhere near familial feelings. And yeah, maybe you could argue Olivia cared for Marcy since she insisted on being 'gentle' when Marcy was being pulled out of the tank, but that's just basic decency; hardly 'adoptive mother' behaviour.
With all that in mind, why do you think so many got so hooked on the idea of these people being found families for Sasha and Marcy? Did they think Sasha and Marcy both 'deserved' a found family just because Anne got that with the Plantars? Did they just like the idea, even if canon did almost nothing to validate it?
I personally think it's because a lot of people thought Sasha and Marcy's parents were abusive (another headcanon I can't get behind), and believed they deserved to find 'better' families in Amphibia. But that's my take; what's yours?
So there's a LOT here to potentially discuss because you're not wrong in saying that it's a dubious claim. Let's start with just my thoughts on them being found families: I like Grime as Sasha's father figure in works but it is much more a mentor and student relationship but where who is doing which is very dubious. The two need each other but how much one or the other need each other is constantly shifting and it's part of what makes their dynamic interesting. Trying to place a specific label on them is rough and I'd agree that saying that Grime is Sasha's first healthy friendship would be accurate because of the push and pull there.
Yunan and Olivia are great in fanworks as having had a real relationship with Marcy but the show just doesn't support it. Yunan seems to look down on her and barely know her while Olivia is a very normal archtype of the proper, Victorian woman who has to deal with childish antics. Neither are bad characters for it but it does mean that the moment in the end with her hugging Yunan and Olivia is more for the sake of a curtain call than it is a big relationship being wrapped up. They honestly symbolize Newtopia, which Marcy definitely should still love, rather than their actual characters in that hug and I think that works.
Now, why are they called found families?
Well, the first reading for why is honestly what I'd probably put my money on: It's a popular trope and people liked the dynamics enough to want to push it into the box they wanted it to be. Like how TOH is praised for its found family despite the family doing so little together, it's a trope with poor definitions, is hard to disprove and is just roaring through fiction right now so its overuse as a term isn't surprising. The fact that it gets used to describe so many people with just dynamics in general (frankly, it feels like it's becoming harder to write best friends in fiction partially from this) makes me unsurprised that it is getting used here since Anne does absolutely get a found family with the Plantars.
Which does bring a second part in: It makes Sasha and Marcy more important. If they're going on similar journeys as Anne than they totally aren't there to help with the themes and the like, the journey is about them too! It brings them closer to being the focus of the story and as narratively important as Anne which, as we've seen, was a big deal to the fandom. I won't even call this bad, fandom will do as it does, but it does also end up diminishing just how big a deal it was for the Plantars to so thoroughly integrate Anne into their family and then how the Boonchuys recognize that work and accept them readily too. If it's as easy as it had to have been for Marcy, Yunan and Olivia, it kind of cheapens the core thrust of the show, almost like it focused on Anne for a reason.
The last one is... KIND OF what you brought up but I think it's a lot deeper than you frame it. I recognize that nowadays I am an outlier. I literally go and take a walk with my mom every morning, or I'm supposed to, to try and help her be more physically active. My problems with my parents are mostly due to my brain not being able to accept anyone actually approves of me, let alone people who's approval I care about. I am so very lucky to have good parents who I am happy to call my parents and who I am glad to have the support of.
All too many kids, even those not in the LGBTQIA+ but ESPECIALLY if they are, have bad family homes. They dream of being able to escape to a new world that's better than theirs, meet people who accept them for them and let them do cool things and be themselves. Escapism, especially isekai, is EXTREMELY popular for a reason, especially as just the world in general sucks, regardless of your relationship with your family.
So then we get Marcy and Sasha still going back. Them ALL going back because sometimes change is inevitable and not always can you bring the ones you care about with you. It's a powerful message that spits in the eye of that escapism and for a lot of people, that HURTS. Like for as much as I defend the choice, I do understand why so many in the fandom reacted negatively to it. For as much as they potentially didn't care about the Amphibians, they don't want to lose the froggy world that they wanted to live in themselves.
And so we get the projection of abusive parents. We get the toads and newts also being found families because it's so much worse to give those people up in your life than just saying bye to your friends. We get reasons why they should have stayed or at least been allowed to travel between worlds. This isn't even all inherently wrong, especially if you are willing to admit that there was a reason why the show chose the ending it did, even if you wish you could have the one that makes you happier.
Hell, we even see some of that with how people treat angst right here. They want Sasha and Marcy to have abusive parents... Because then they can be told it's okay to reject reality, be given a hug and then move on. Not to explore that abuse but to be given the wish fulfillment of that abuse being met with kindness which is admittedly how you should meet that stuff, please take abuse victims seriously and help them, but life is more complicated than that most of the time.
These are arguments I can understand and sympathize with though. I wish I could see someone using mental illness as now their superpower to be something that makes me happy because it WOULD be nice if my depression made me better than others. I just... don't quite engage with media that way though. It's actually part of what I think makes scripted content harder for me because I engage too genuinely and don't just want a pat on the head and a juice box.
And that isn't to say people who do want that are wrong. I still don't want to be actively hurt by the media I consume. I am still there to be entertained and happy and how that happens will be different for each person. That's part of the joy of life.
So I won't tell people who want Yunan and Olivia to be Marcy's lesbian moms they're bad for wanting that. Just don't tell me that's objectively what happened in the story since analysis and headcanon are genuinely different.

Hello, Hamliet.... is it true that the Bible said homosexuals should be punish in new testament? If I'm not wrong remembered (yes, I'm from christian household) is it not that king david have 'special feelings' for jonathan?
My mother has really strong belief in religion (christianity) and she is an anti-LGBTQ+. But do you believe that her brother (my uncle) who is definitely a queer (wear make up, dresses really feminely, and sometimes called himself as she, never married until he's in sixties), my mother said he is normal ?????
That's why I want to know more about LGBTQ+ (eventhough in my country it is still a taboo topic).
Do you think it's weird Hamliet, if I prefer to read mlm & wlw instead of het romance? I just felt fed up with reading or watching het romance (wlm)....
Thanks to you Hamliet, I know more about myself, eventhough there are still a bit if feeling guilty every time I read or watch LGBTQ+ contents....
No, it doesn't say it should be punished in the New Testament.
It does get mentioned once, arguably three times, but really for certain once, and that context has nothing to do with punishment.
I'm going to give a very bare bones explanation of my understanding of it below! There are also lots of theology papers on it and I'm like, skimming the surface here.
The arguable ones lists a word that is often translated as "homosexuality" in a list of sins that "won't inherit the kingdom of God." However, the two words that get translated as such need more looking at.
One is always translated literally as "softness," but is always used in reference to prostitution. Most likely (given the letters it appears to and the communities they were a part of and the prevalence of temple prostitution there) temple prostitution (which should not be thought of as largely consensual in this context, either). There are also some fair arguments based on the words used and the known history of these cities that it's referring to ritual p*do abuse of children.
The other of the Greek words that gets translated as such is extremely unusual. So unusual that it's never seen elsewhere.
Yeah. It's a made-up word.
Now, the word arsenokoitēs certainly had meaning to the specific community to which the letter it appears in is addressed, but it's not like a word that can be translated with 100% certainty. What we do know for certain is that parts of the word are taken from words that refer to "men" and "bed/sex." So I see why people translate it that way. The thing is, though, it occurs in two lists, and these lists consist of issues concerning idolatry and slave dealers. Hence, the context strongly indicates that it's condemning some form of exploitation involving men who have sex with males.
The larger historical/cultural context also indicates this. If you read ancient Greek texts, like, say, Plato's Symposium, you'll get a very distinct view of exactly which same-sex relationships were normalized in those days, and you'll also be somewhat horrified. Basically the idea was that mentors (adult men) would mentor teenager boys, and the teen boys would be receptive to the adult man having sex with them. Does it sound creepy and exploitative? Because it is!
Yes, even for the time period. It isn't unique. Julius Caesar--yes, THE Julius Caesar--had to deal with rumors that he was one of those boys to an older mentee (Nicomedes). Because clearly, being on the receiving end of male-male sex means that you're actually a woman, which as everyone knows is the WORST thing you could possibly be (sarcastic). Anyways, this type of exploitative bs was extremely common, and even back in those days, it was known to be somewhat, y'know, f*cked up.
The other time it's talked about in the NT is in Romans 1, during which the main theme of the passage is that giving yourself over to lust is a bad thing. Paul cites women having sex with women and men with men as examples of overabundance of lust. I think most Christians, even sex-positive ones like myself, would agree that being consumed with lust (or with anything) to where it controls you and you start losing control of your life is unhealthy.
Now, that said, you can make an argument that Paul's view seems to be that homosexual tendencies stem from over abundance. But we know that's not true nowadays. And that gets into how you read the Bible as a whole.
I love the Bible. I see it as God's word to humanity, divinely inspired. I also think that to truly see it as God's word, you have to acknowledge what it is.
It's literature.
That doesn't mean it's fiction or whatever. It just means that God chose literature as a means to communicate with human beings, and that means that God knew that the whole point of literature is that people wrestle with the concepts and debate the themes. It enhances my respect of Scripture and my love of God to do precisely this, to dig into the text and its historical context and discover the timeless themes. To call it "inerrant" where every word can be taken out of context and seen as a command does a disservice to the writers God used to craft poetry, histories, stories, measurements, and letters to friends. To view the Bible as God when the Bible itself says that Jesus is the Word of God personified misses the forest for the trees, the spirit of the law for the letter.
The other really cool thing that genuinely excites me about Christianity is that God works with human beings. Individuals, yes, but also communities. He works within cultures, too. Despite modern evangelicals claiming "No Compromise!" Scripture is FULL of God compromising with humans, bargaining with them, accepting that they are flawed and working with us. He worked within human limits so much he became one to save us from death; it's kinda the premise!
So, God working to deliver his very message to us through human writers of literature is kind of amazing to me, awe-inspiring. But that also means human beings are limited by what we know and our own time periods, our own cultures. And, that's okay. Yes, keep working to do better, but it means that we can have grace for ourselves and one another. Even now, when we know a lot more about the world as a whole, we are still very limited by our own experiences, cultures, and time period. There's this attitude that modernity has reached the stage of ultimate enlightenment and boy have we not.
Hence, yeah, Paul's writing in Romans 1 especially might be kinda homophobic by today's standards. The ultimate premise--don't let yourself be under anything else's control--is a good one, but him using homosexuality as an example as if potentially all of it emerges from lust is not exactly woke, but also not necessarily abnormal for his time period and his culture. He's a flawed human being, after all, but God himself still worked with him to do some pretty great stuff, and to write some pretty cool letters that still have beautiful resonance today (the love passage in Corinthians? That's him!)
(Also, funnily enough, people--even the strictest evangelicals--actually do accept this about Paul and culture when he's writing about slavery. Because Paul doesn't endorse slavery and instructs masters to be kind to their slaves and treat them well, but he doesn't outright say "you're sinning by owning slaves" whereas today we'd definitely think that. Funny how that doesn't apply to gay people though.)
Lastly, your mom sounds like my mom. She claims she thinks it's a sin because she believes the Bible says so, but she genuinely is happy for friends who are gay and happily married and wishes them well. It's like she feels she has to believe it, not that she actually does in her core. And of course that's not an excuse, and I would never tell a gay person they should not be upset with her. Even within our modern cultures, it can be hard to unlearn things too especially if you grew up in such environments.
But reading mlm or wlw stories is actually a great tool for helping people empathize with others. Fiction absolutely helped me leave the cult I was raised in. I don't think it's inherently weird at all; curiosity exists, empathy exists, good stories exist, and also there's something to be said about people who exist in cultures that are very non-accepting seeing themselves in stories where a relationship that might often be condemned is accepted. Even if the person is straight and cis, they might have parts of themselves they see as something society would hate, and so they see themselves in the characters.
Oh actually, the real last lastly. Jonathan and David. Er... yeah. I mean, yes, people do have extremely close, extremely intimate, brotherly platonic friendships, even between men. But their relationship is certainly up for interpretation considering they literally refer to each other as having love for them that is "better than that of women." The words and phrasing used mirror those used in like, the Iliad to describe Achilles and Patroclus, and Gilgamesh between Gilgamesh and Enkidu.
David also married Jonathan's sister and didn't treat her very well, but did go out of his way to protect Jonathan's own children. Also, there are several other passages where the ancient Hebrew used could contain sexual nuances, although it doesn't necessarily have to. You can't definitively state either way what it is--the writers clearly wrote in plausible deniability. Still, there's enough to raise eyebrows even within that old ancient context that, whether or not it was ever physical, Jonathan and David were not platonic.
(Personally? David invented the Disaster Bisexual archetype.)

Some 9-1-1 thoughts, based on the new description.
I think that Eddie's stache is going to be related to Chris' absence. Specifically the fact that Chris wasn't really communicating with Eddie when we last saw them together. I think Chris is refusing to talk to him and the stache is going to be shaved off when Chris either replies to his dad's message, or even reaches out to him first. I'll be surprised if Chris comes back before midseason, especially since
It sounds like Buck and Tommy could start off having a fairly chill season, which means that either the end of 8A or 8B is likely to be the bucktommy torture hour. I've seen some speculation over whether they could have their first fight over Gerrard but here's my take: Buck's going to want advice from Tommy on how to deal with Gerrard, and Tommy's not going to want to give it because there really is no winning. Answering Buck would mean either telling him to keep his head down and lie about who he is (which would hurt Buck) or telling him to be honest about himself and his relationship with Tommy which would put a target on him (and would also hurt Buck.)
I hope Gerrard does last longer than just a few episodes, because I do think it would be interesting to explore how different it is when characters like Eddie and Buck were never probies under him, compared to Hen who worked under him for a while, and then people like Chimney and Tommy (who, interestingly, were the ones he directly went after at the medal ceremony) who were not only probies but worked under him for up to six years.
I feel so bad that they made Bobby, a legacy firefighter, get a regular job. That poor man. He is going to be bored shitless but I also think it would be very fun if he ended up getting really into the show.
We don't really get a lot about Hen and Karen's arc, except that Ortiz will continue to be a nightmare for them as they try to get Mara back. I'm looking forward to this arc, especially as I think it's going to lead to some very interesting scenes between henren and madney, since their daughter is now part of someone else's family.
I have a controversial take on Maddie and Chimney possibly having another child: I really want them to adopt. I know that they could have a biological child but I would kind of like to see 9-1-1 have adoption be presented as a viable option for a couple who can conceive without the help of a third party.
Athena's arc tease really interests me. Because there are a few characters it could be that we, as viewers, know - one of her friends from law school, maybe even her mentor from when she first joined the police, or they could bring back Dennis, the man who shot Emmett.
I'm also really interested in what connects Gerrard and Ortiz. Like we already suspected, based on the image Tim shared last season, that they're in cahoots but the confirmation and tease that they're connected in many ways has my attention.

hiii this is. slightly odd i think?? but i just wanted to say thank you for something, because it's really changed my life. when i first started reading flwogb i had just finished my gcses and was picking my A levels, and i saw here on tumblr smth u posted about how you'd done a degree in a bioscience subject and that you were going into intellectual property. i'd never heard of that kind of career path before, but it sounded so interesting so i looked into it and thought i'd probably like to do something like that in the future. which is why i ended up doing 3 sciences and law at A level (MIGHTT have been a mistake doing all 4 bc it nearly killed me but hey)
fast forward to now, i'm doing a biochemistry degree and hoping to get a placement at a law firm dealing with life science intellectual property, all because i stumbled across your fic way back in 2020 by complete accident!! it's genuinely changed my life bc i would literally never have known about a career that feels so tailor made to my specific interests in science AND law together 💞 soooooo thank you haha, i really wouldn't be as happy now if it hadn't been for a random post u made like 3 years ago lol xx
(i do kind of want to kill myself when it comes to january exams on organic chem, genetics, thermodynamics, and biochem tho 😭😭 i love science but at what COST 😭)
hello! first of all:
not odd at all! this is one of the sweetest asks i've ever received i think??
also 3 SCIENCES AND LAW AT ALEVEL??? just thinking about that made me want to lie down. i admire your very undoubtedly wrinkly brain
i'm so very glad i was able to help you on your career journey like this! even i didn't know being a solicitor (specialising in life sciences intellectual property) or a patent attorney was a thing until i was in my final year of my biomed degree, so it makes me very happy that i was able to spread the knowledge about it this way!
best of luck in your jan exams (thinking about my biochem modules from uni still makes me queasy) i'm sure you'll do very well! and i hope you get that placement-- definitely look out for resources such as Aspiring Solicitors, Rare Recruitment or STRIVE that help students get access to the legal field and can help out with applications/interviews! Aspiring Solicitors in particular do a very helpful STEM mentoring scheme with a few IP law firms, so definitely one to check out
you got this <3

AITA for stealing a bone? Okay, preface: I'm sending this before I do it, but I am going to do this no matter what. I just want to know if I'm an asshole or not.
For context, I, 20sm, have a... condition. I'm very sensitive to certain things, including a magical object my brother owns. My mentor/father figure, 400sm, also has this condition, so as a rule of thumb, things that hurt him hurt me. I've only recently developed it, so I'm figuring it out as I go.
For some more context, recently my brother (20sm), our friend (30s?40s?m), and I recently met a woman. She knew a lot of things she shouldn't have, and tried to get the magical object from my brother in exchange for information we wanted. Now, that object repels and hurts people with my condition, so he keeps it far away from me when he uses it.
However, we've been sent to recover some bones, which are an object with similar abilities, but far more powerful. They're apparently meant to keep my mentor out of a town (which... he's not as bad as people make him out to be. He can be violent, sure, but our condition is hard to live with and he sees something in me that nobody else has, so he's shown me only kindness.). Which, by extension, probably means they'll just outright kill me, because despite the advantages of our condition, I'm very weak- I've almost died several times, and have lasting wounds, so I think I've given my brother a complex because it's only happened when he's away from me. Our home is in that town! It's the only real home I've ever had. I don't want to leave.
The thing is, the bones have to be in a very specific place to work. I have a hypothesis that if I take one of the bones before they're placed there, I can prevent it from working, or at least make it work less, so I can keep living there. Plus, there's something cool coming up soon, and I really want to see if my Mentor will come, because he hasn't talked to me in a while and I miss him. My friends don't like him, but that's just because they got off on the wrong foot, and also because he was mean to my brother but my brother is a monster hunter so I'm sure he was just scared. Because our condition makes us "monstrous". But he knows now that my brother wouldn't hurt a fly! He's really nice.
It's not the first time I've stolen. I got my friend kicked out for stealing a book for me (which I submitted here before), I stole a book when I ran away, and as my mentor asked, I stole my brother's journal. (It's okay, he got a new one, my mentor probably just wants to copy it down anyways!) But these bones seem like a huge deal, and I think people might get mad at me if they find out. But I'm not gonna keep it!! The lady we met said that she was interested in artifacts like the one my brother has, so I'm gonna bring it to her in exchange for information. Like, where my friend is, or if I have a family, or stuff like that. It won't be a huge bone! Like, a rib, or some vertebrae, or a tibia. Just enough to interest her and hopefully keep me safe.
AITA for doing this?

Spite Scorchedearth is the cub of Aetia Burntdancer and Clement Forktail, great grandcub of Kalla Scorchrazor, great great great grandcub of Pyre Fierceshot, and great great great great grandcub of Vatlaaw Doomtooth. She also had a cub named Valag with her warband member Clawspur. Just before he would have left for the fahrar, Spite, Clawspur, Euryale, and Valag got infection with a viral disease that ended up killing Valag. While Spite cried over her cub who passed in her arms, Clawspur mourned internally and withdrew. Because of how he reacted, she thought he didn't care, and fell out of love with him.
Eventually, Spite became The Commander, her story is almost the same as in game, however there are a few differences. During the fight against Zhaitan, Spite lost her hand, and after the battle, her and Trahearne became mates. After HoT Spite hated and blamed Caithe for what happened to Trahearne, and attempted to harm her. Thankfully, the others were able to stop her and pull her away. Over the years, their shared love for Aurene was able to help them repair their friendship, and make it a little more than before... Before and after Aurene hatched she spent most of her time caring for her, and when Aurene was resurrected, they were able to speak with her telepathically (Aurene couldn't talk to anyone but her and Caithe until she became an elder dragon.) After Kralkatoric's death she left with Aurene to heal the damage he had done to Tyria and the Mists. After Soo-Won's death, she stayed with Aurene and Caithe, until it left to rest. Spite refused to deal with her grief at Aurene's leaving, at least until Rama sent her a letter where her grief and trauma would be thrown at them full force.
After everything settled down, they felt lost and left behind by her friends, which eventually led them and Widget to enter a rift and get thrown into a fight against the Kryptis.

Athinri of Twilight is the reincarnation of the Firstborn Wynne. She awoke in the time between dawn and night, as such she feels a connection to both, and she says she is of the cycle of Twilight. While in the dream of dreams, Athini saw an elder dragon, specifically Mordremoth, and the destruction it will bring. She also dreamed of the moment Wynne begged Caithe to kill her, though the dream shrouded the names and people from her. Her Wyld hunts are to slay Mordremoth, and find who killed the sylvari, and learn the truth. Though, she never expected her very own mentor to not only mislead her on her hunt, but to be the very sylvari she wanted to hunt down... When Spite left for the Crystal Desert, Athinri stayed behind with Caithe to take care of Aurene, and to keep and eye on Caithe, as neither Spite nor Athinri trusted her. As time went on, Athinri began speaking to Caithe again, and became like an aunt to Aurene. She never fully forgave Caithe, and their relationship will never be the same, but they are on good terms now.
By IBS's Whisper in the Dark, her and Braham have gotten into a relationship. After Braham becomes Primordus's champion, she leaves to go to Jormag, to ask and simply see if something could be worked out, however when Jormag offers her an alliance and she tentatively accepts, Jormag forcibly encases her in ice, making her a champion to go with her herald, Ryland. Thankfully, she is broken free from Jormag's control at the end of IBS. Eventually, they marry and adopt two children, a female norn and a male charr.
In about 1700 AE, Aurene has a small egg and she asks her remaining friends and champion to visit both her and the egg in Tariri, in doing so Athinri feels a bond to the egg and becomes it champion.

Holosmith Widget was an accident to her two parents, Zydeco and Kuda, however they still loved her deeply. Shortly after she was born, Zydeco realized that she would have a horrible life in the inquest, especially due to Widget developing asthma so soon after her birth, xey tried to convince Kuda to leave with them but Kuda refused. Eventually, they left Kuda behind.
Since she was young, Widget showed great promise and intelligence, even through her struggles with ADHD and asthma, and crafted an infinity ball and her Visor as some of her first inventions. When she was still in progeny school, she met Taimi and they connected instantly over their disabilities. At college her and Taimi met Gorrik and Blish and became close friends with them.
Eventually, her mentor was called to help prepare on the war against Mordremoth, and she decided to join up too, where she met up with Taimi again, and ended up sneaking away from her mentor to help the commander and thus changing her life. And even letting her meet her mother for the first time since she was a babe.
Widget specializes in holograms and golem mainly, but is eager to pick up anything that interests her in the slightest. In 1331 she accidentily gets sucked into a rift with Spite and becomes a Wayfinder.
After Spite disappears she goes into Nayos in her stead.

Lady Caligo is the child of Desmina and Grenth. She was created when he gifted Desmina his powers, the shared moment of unity unknowingly created her. When she was just born, her form was of a small, pale babe, as if all of her blood had been drained. However, the most striking of all was her face- or lack thereof. It was black and smoky, only an empty void. After the gods left Tyria, she decided to protect humanity in their absence. With the ability to take on the fallen's faces, she has spent many years pulling strings behind the curtains.

Rant about Witcher S2
Feeling kinda sad seeing Witcher Gifs. Not because people are enjoying the show, please, enjoy it! I'm not here to judge your viewing habits!
But personally, I actually thought it would be a good show in S1. They missed some things here and there, and it didn't reeeeaaally feel like it was based on slavic folklore & culture, but I was hoping that now people were hooked, they'd use more of what people weren't familiar with, and get into some of the morally grey stuff as well as the much darker aspects of Witcher lore & slavic lore.
Instead they turned Baba Yaga into a generic demon.
Baba Yaga.
(Click Keep Reading for the rest of my rant because I don't want to be rude but also wow do I have so much to say about S2)
Technically only identifiable as such due to the house with chicken feet, that's how badly they fucked such an iconic piece of folklore up.
Season 2 also brought us "what if Eskel were an ass, and we killed him, then were shocked that people were upset we changed his character AND weren't upset at his passing"
In addition, it downplayed to near non-existence the roles Triss and Yen had in mentoring Ciri, it used the generic demon to kill most of the witchers thereby making the fault of the witcher's decline (checks notes) Yen, Ciri, and a generic demon instead of HUMANITY.
It tried to do the whole "dubious ethics of Witcher creation" but without Lambert's justifiable anger regarding being made a witcher as a kid, it doesn't have the same emotional weight.
Oh, oh. We also have a beautiful friendhsip between two badass women formed, then ruined due to...Interference from Deus Ex Generic Demon.
And like. They could have actually used Yen, The Elf Woman, and Nilfgardian Sorceress (sorry, blanking on names), to show how Baba Yaga ISN'T an evil witch, but rather, well, more complicated than that. How the deals Baba Yaga offers depends on both her mood, and how much respect you give to her. That the morality of what's offered & given also depends on perspective.
But nope. Generic Demon.
Which that plotline leads to blood libel.
This will likely need more explaining, so buckle up.
First up, blood libel is a variant of antisemitism where Jewish people are accused of murdering children thereby fueling pogroms aka genocide attempts. It's been around in Europe for centuries. Centuries.
The holocaust was not the first attempt to kill Jews, it was just the most well known, and most systemic.
Now, sometimes writers will make a fantasy race an analog to the Jewish people. Sometimes the intent is malicious, sometimes its positive, sometimes its neutral. Sometimes they don't intend to, they're just using tropes another writer used which is based on another writer's tropes, which is based on a metaphor/analog.
Now, I do not know all the details about how the author of the witcher books originally wrote the elves.
I DO know that how they were portrayed in the show was as a people looking for a homeland, and were part of a diaspora, with concerns about not enough "purebloods" in the new generation.
Its not at all accurate to the experiences of actual Jewish people, but it IS accurate to the perception of Jewish people many goyim have. (Also yeah, there's some Jews who are concerned about not enough pure Jewish kids, but that's like, a couple of very specific sects and even within those sects not everyone agrees on that.)
Anyways, the blood libel comes in what happens when the elven woman's baby dies. The Jewish analogs go and kill a bunch of non Jewish, I mean non Elven babies.
Fuck you Lauren Hirsch.
Fuck you for that plotline.
Even if it WERE canon, why the fuck would that plotline be deemed appropriate. Even if we pretended it wasn't blood libel, it's still a minority murdering a majority's kids, which oh right, is exactly the kind of shit fox news blabs on about.
I mean hell, the elves were enslaved. I bet there's incredibly false, racist, enraging, propaganda from the 1800s claiming freed slaves would kill children.
But they even put blood over doorways in a fucking bastardization of passover. A holiday where some sects ACTUALLY DISCUSS HOW HORRIBLE THE WHOLE KILLING BABIES THING IS. Oh, and the blood over doorways WAS ANIMAL BLOOD TO TELL THE ANGEL OF DEATH THAT A JEWISH FAMILY LIVED THERE. IT WAS WARDING. IT WASN'T A THREAT.
And instead of the elves being a faction with complicated motives stemming from racism, colonialism, and just having no where to go, they're turned into bland villains. The fuck kind of writing is this.
Oh, and before I forget, another pile of steaming shit to add to the shit pile? Vesemir giving a bunch of sex workers a date rape plant, thereby making it so they CANNOT CONSENT TO SEX, and also being okay with bringing strangers to the keep which makes zero sense.
Its disgusting, misogynistic, and seems like the scene was intended to be played for comedic effect with the mention of the plant as a sort of handwave to explain why the keep is still secret.
I have ZERO issues with sex workers, and in fact want more positive representations of sex workers. What I am not okay with is when media shows characters casually using an actual plant to drug sex workers thereby removing their agency, and it's intended to be a comedic scene.
Fuck that.
There's just...So much wrong with Season 2's writing, with the choices made, with the lack of respect for slavic culture, that I just cannot bring myself to watch the latest season.
Henry Cavill's Geralt is great! I love Anya Chalotra as Yen! I love that Joey Batey fought for Jaskier to be queer! There's so much great acting, costumes, and more.
But the writing choices.
The writing and directorial choices, as well as Hirsch's responses to criticism from fans means I just can't enjoy this season.
So I look sadly at the gifs, knowing that they're showing some great moments, but I can't enjoy them the way that I would have if S2 had been written better.
And you know what? I hope we get to hear more about what was going on behind the scenes. I want to know who wanted what. WHo shouted down what decisions. And just how, how in the world these writing decisions got finalized and aired.
#the witcher#netflix the witcher#lix rambles#this is not a positive post#i just have so many feelings because i enjoy the world and characters#only for so many bad choices to be made#i still suspect henry cavill left because of the lack of respect for the source material#sure there was the dc deal but that doesn't feel like enough to pull him away from a dream gig#unless it turned into a nightmare gig
