Well, today has been productive!

You recently claimed "there are no stupid questions," so I'd like to know what nail polish/manicure you'd choose for Crowley, Aziraphale, and whoever else from the cast tickles your fancy. :) And does the choice vary if they walk into your salon and tell you it's for a ~date~? :D

Aziraphale canonically gets his nails done regularly, but I think he'd normally go in for a simple manicure without polish, maybe just a clear coat. He enjoys the experience and the practice of keeping his corporation neat and tidy, but doesn't feel the need for alteration.

That said, if he walks into my hypothetical salon and mentions he's going for a date, I think I could nudge him into something with a subtle bit of sparkle.

I doubt he'd actually go for Aria, but I'd suggest it to get a laugh and make the others seem reasonable. And hey, maybe someday!

He'd pick one of the subtle ones and giggle over being daring. And of course, Crowley would actually notice and be impressed by the change.

Crowley I see as a matte black creme for most days, but he's a multichrome guy when he's feeling fancy. Maaaybe some understated shimmer. I don't really feel sparkles for him, but threw a couple in to tempt him with.

He's briefly intrigued by Diablo, until he notices the name and gets annoyed at falling into a cliche. Maybe if there was something as dark as Annabelle but more red, he's got an aesthetic to maintain, after all.

If we want a touch of angst, for things they'd avoid: I think Aziraphale would have complicated feelings about applying earthly golds to his corporation in such a way. And Crowley would find magnetics that imitate space charming, but find them too lacking to enjoy wearing them himself. Which is a shame, because he could miracle them perfect without having to wait for the dang magnet.

Maggie I see as a person who enjoys the self-care ritual of painting her own nails. She would mostly do solid cremes or jellies, but once in a while she'd enjoy an afternoon playing around with stamping and other cutesy nail art.

However, for a special occasion, I can see her branching out like Aziraphale and having fun with a jelly flakie or a shimmer.

Nina initially grumbles about getting dragged along for this hypothetical, but then her eye gets caught by the foils. Maybe she goes with the classic gold, but her coffee shop suggests she likes blue. She spends the rest of the day catching sight of her nails and smiling to herself.

Johnson knew better than to get attached. He knew too much and mattered too little. As a fictional character, he considered himself and every person he'd ever met to be immortal nonentities. They have been written and will never die, but are not real and have never lived. Well- he supposed- maybe they are real, but only as images on a page, words on a screen, and thoughts in the minds of those who truly live.

So yeah, Johnson's goal was to do his job. He did it happily, he liked Samwell, he was looking forward to meeting Bitty when the comic officially started, but he really wasn't sure why he was here so early. He's the fourth-wall-breaking goalie, a gag for the dedicated readers, he wasn't a main character, he was hardly a character at all. So why was he getting backstory?

It was his freshman year. Jack and Shitty wouldn't arrive for another year. Hockey hadn't even started yet. So Johnson went through the motions, soaking in the campus and preparing for his classes, but not paying much mind to the people around him. He knew that none, save Coach Hall and Coach Murray, would be making any canon appearances. No use getting attached.

Then he met the team for the first time.

A faceless crowd. Guys who were just off of being proper character designs, too basic or too odd. But one of them was different. Johnson could see it all. He was a fully-fleshed out character. He had pain and history and internal conflict. Johnson thought about Jack and Bitty, who he hadn't met but felt like he knew, this guy felt like both of them and neither of them and some of Kent Parson and most of all like someone who has no idea what they have in store.

Oh.

Realization set in.

That's Chris Einhardt.

Johnson couldn't help but stare. There was a nagging feeling in his brain, some part of him that was saying "he doesn't belong here." But then, that was impossible. Because here he was.

There was no way Chris "Hardy" Einhardt would appear in the comic. A reference at best, not even a cameo. He would have no practical impact on the story whatsoever. Everything he did for this plot has already been done, inspiration from a screenplay years before. But this Hardy was different. This Hardy was on a different team in a different genre.

This Hardy had Johnson.

Jack and Shitty wouldn't show up for another year. Bitty not for another three.

Three years until the timeline starts.

Time enough to get attached.

Johnson took a breath, took a step, and introduced himself to the most interesting nonentity he would ever meet.

*kicks down your door* It might seem like a plot hole that no one thought about the possibility of Dracula being invited into the asylum by Renfield (or any other patient) but actually it speaks to the way Renfield’s personhood is being denied mainly by Jack Seward, but also the rest of the crew in part through their reliance on Seward’s expertise. Which also ties into the way they have decided to shut out Mina at the very same time. It literally just did not occur to them that the patients living in the same building as them would have any claim to the residency that allows someone to grant the permission a vampire needs to enter a home. But of course the asylum is the patients’ home just as much as it is Jack’s! They live there! In short this fatal blow dealt to the heroes at this crucial juncture comes about through both their sexism and their ableism. Good night. *puts your door back on its hinges again and leaves*
