Another little folkloric detail that struck me was the fact that Count Orlok's bites (unless a spontaneous attack, like on the ship) through the chest instead of the neck! From what I've read (and anybody more knowledgeable on the topic is free to correct me if I'm wrong), biting through the neck was a development of later (English) vampire fiction. Vampires of folklore would bite through the chest, specifically where the heart is, because that's where the most blood would be.

Robert Eggers does his research yet again!

Bravo also to Robert Eggers for probably the least bad depiction of Transylvania in Western vampire cinematic history:

1. Having actual Romanian actors doing the dialogue in Romanian. You'd think this is a low bar to clear but nope.

2. High quality costume design that looks pretty accurate to 19th century Romanian and Roma peasantry, even down to specific braided hairstyles from the Transylvanian region.

3. Depiction of Roma people but refrains from having them as some typical Hollywood exoticizing role like a magical fortune teller etc. They're in like half a scene, just chilling and playing music in front of an inn.

4. Use of the word "strigoi" which are actual spirits in Romanian folklore, unlike the term "vampire" which didn't exist in Romania.

5. Sorry to the Nosferatu moustache haters, but a Romanian nobleman would have had that exact facial hair.

6. Depiction of religion (nuns, churches) that actually looks like Eastern Orthodoxy and not some vaguely spooky goth Christianity.

its so hard to watch time pass when things like careers and assignments exist. what do you mean im supposed to take that seriously

#I have an assignment that was due a week ago and I really really dont want to do it. I have to but i dont want to #im probably making it worse because my brain has built a wall around it so now i can’t do literally anything else until thats done. but #because I don’t want to do it I’m just kinda stuck. turns out this is what they meant when they said emotional regulation is part of #exec dysfunction.. I’ll have a thought like if I get a little bit of it done now i can get it over with. I can just submit something #and then not even 5 minutes later itll be like ugh but I have to draw all the assets out. I have to write things and make spreads ugh #and its just flopping between those two things. i hate it when ppl are like well how much time do you need to work on one thing #because BOY id love to know too. I wonder if Flowey ever just... let Clover stay dead for longer than a few seconds after they died in a fight just to see what happens. I mean, he basically is the master of their fate and would probably get bored of seeing them repeat the same three routes over and over and over again. I feel like in between trying to push Clover to fight Asgore, he'd probably find the time to entertain himself watching other characters react to Clover's death to mix things up a bit.

I am Once Again thinking about jean fast asleep, dead to the world, with an arm wrapped around pieck as she scrolls mindlessly through her phone before she falls asleep

I'd like to think that it's a nightly routine. he always falls asleep first, maybe around 9 or 10 (he has the body clock of a grandpa lmao) and pieck stays up until maybe 2, sometimes 3. during that time, she'll do whatever: go on social media, read a book, watch a couple of niche tiktoks. all the while, jean's snoring lightly with an arm wrapped around her waist, mouth slightly agape, and she'll sneak glances towards him every so often and just be like "🥹"

sometimes she'll play around with his hair, or trace light patterns against his skin. he's a heavy sleeper so he never budges, and no matter what happens, his arm stays around her like velcro.
