fire & ice au - javid
i have an au concept. and it's,, very convoluted. and more serious than my typical fics. but, i present to you, something i came up with during my TGS days:
a little thing i like to call the "fire & ice au", for lack of a better title at the moment.
so, in this universe, you have your 'normal people', but you also have... not necessarily mutants, but a different variation of people. they look like typical humans, but these people are born with powers and/or abilities.
because i am gay, these powers and/or abilities are elemental and connected to the natural world.
ANYWAY, those born with powers are respected in varying ways, and the powers are separated by 'classes'- so, within this group, there's a hierarchy between powers based on perceived purity/'importance'.
more, plus Javid content, under the cut!!!!
OFFICIAL SOCIETAL HIERARCHY:
Born of Ice; upper class
Born of Water; upper-middle class
Born of Earth; middle class
Born of Fire; lower class
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:
Born of Ice: these people are seen as 'pure' and 'regal'; people Born of Ice are not as common as others, which is what makes them more 'desirable'. they tend to be more respected, and are stoic, cold, and calculated. though they're highly respected, they're still very dangerous.
Born of Water: they're much less rigid than those Born of Ice, and are more common, but they're still respected a reasonable amount by the general population. they're kind, but tempermental; unforgiving but loyal to those who treat them right.
Born of Earth: those Born of Earth are laid back and caring; they have other's best interests at heart and are the natural caregivers of the population. they're often very bright and bubbly; these people are the middle ground between 'Normal People' and those born with powers.
Born of Fire: these people are the least desirable in the eyes of society. they're seen as dangerous and destructive; however, they're very warm, and faithful toward those they love. they're treated unfairly, but make up most of the population amongst those with powers.
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES:
Born of Ice: their skin is very cool-toned. they have what looks like frost on certain parts of their body; fingertips, cheekbones, shoulders. all of them have striking blue eyes, no matter what their family history is. also, their body temperature is naturally lower than a regular human's; they can't be in extreme heat without feeling deathly ill, and are easily burnt.
POWERS INCLUDE: creating frost and ice; snow is also common, but not really? also all of them suck at emotional regulation, so stressful situations create more violent destructive outbursts.
Born of Water: their physical attributes aren't as extreme or rigid: most, but not all, have blue eyes, and most have curly/wavy hair. those Born of Water are easily masked in crowds! however, they do have distinct scents, like saltwater or rain. not many weaknesses.
POWERS INCLUDE: water manipulation/rain creation
Born of Earth: they basically look like regular humans, but they have brighter green eyes, and- in some Very powerful individuals- they'll have vines wrapping around their upper arms/ankles. not many weaknesses.
POWERS INCLUDE: floral manipulation/minimal healing
Born of Fire: HERE we get extreme again. those Born of Fire have warmer skin tones; they also have brown/orange/red eyes. their fingertips, cheekbones, and chest oftentimes appear charred. they're also prone to scarring. extreme cold is highly uncomfortable for them; they have a naturally high body temperature, but cold makes them feel drained and tired much faster.
POWERS INCLUDE: flame manipulation, heat manipulation. emotional outbursts are common, as their tempers aren't the best.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
those Born of Elements are typically respected ONLY if they're of an Elemental family.
so, say someone is Born of Ice, but they're the only one in their family who has the power.
they would be an outcast, and would be treated very unfairly, because even though Ice is the most acceptable by a societal standpoint, it's STILL different from being 'normal'.
the same goes for everyone Born of Elements, no matter the class. if they're the only one in their immediate family, they're automatically the lowest on the totem pole.
ACTUAL AU:
i say ALL OF THAT to say:
Javid au with Jack as someone Born of Fire, and Davey as someone Born of Ice, and exploring that relationship along with societal pressure.
i don't necessarily have a reason for davey being Born of Ice other than he would be SO pretty with the unnaturally blue eyes/frosty attributes
and jack, a working boy, with charred skin and fiery eyes, who radiates warmth and comfort despite being told every day that all he brings is danger and destruction....... GOD...........
and the juxtaposition between fire and ice would make for SUCH an interesting relationship dynamic?
because, well, davey is cold- figuratively and literally. he's not rude, but he's calculated and quiet and and not exactly the most outgoing person.
meanwhile, jack is passionate and loud and loyal to a fault; he's the embodiment of the sun, in terms of personality, and that sometimes comes back to bite him in the ass.
but together, they'd be unstoppable.
jack warms davey up; he teaches him that there is no weakness in being open, he laughs with him, he makes sure that davey is always happy and safe.
meanwhile, davey cools jack down; he helps him think before he acts, he teaches him to only fight when it's worth it, and he helps Jack keep his hot-headed nature under control.
and it's really interesting, seeing how the PHYSICAL side of things could play out ?? bc like. even holding hands would be weird, bc jack is naturally warmer and davey is naturally cooler, and it's a fine line of keeping themselves in check so not to accidentally hurt each other. jack could easily burn davey, or davey could make jack ill by lowering his body temp too much; it's dangerous, but they make it work.
they always make it work.
PLOT ??
i imagine it being in canon era; most of the newsies are Born of Elements, cast aside from their families for having their specific abilities.
SIDE NOTE: abilities usually show up around the age of,, ten??
anyway, the newsies have their elemental attributes, and most of them were the sole elementals in their family.
jack has been a newsie since he was eleven; his father didn't exactly take the news too well that his only son was Born of Fire. it actually jack a long time to climb the ranks amongst the newsies, because he was seen as the 'lowest' on the elemental hierarchy. but once he's seen as the 'leader' of the newsies, things change; all boys are treated the same, no matter what abilities they have, and jack makes sure of it.
now, enter davey jacobs.
davey- and his younger brother- join the newsies after their father is injured.
les fits in well; many of the newsies also have no elemental abilities, so he's easily taken in, but... davey is a different story.
because davey is Born of Ice.
and, well, people Born of Ice are rare. there aren't many in the general population, which means that davey is the only manhattan newsie Born of Ice.
when he shows up, most of the newsies are very taken aback; they have a lot of questions, like why davey still has his family and why davey wasn't outcasted and why davey, who SHOULD be at the top of the hierarchy, has to be a newsie to support his family.
OKAY THIS IS TOO LONG BUT BASICALLY: CANON ERA, FOLLOWS THE STRIKE AND ALL OF THE EVENTS AFTERWARD
please send asks if u guys like this ahhh!!!

New Zealand schools have introduced a climate change resource that suggests children “eat less meat and dairy”, even though teachers will not know how much meat or dairy any child in their care has eaten. Opinion pieces in the papers have called for the reduction of meat and dairy in hospital menus, not usually generous sources of such foods, despite the well-known risks of undernutrition, especially of protein, in the frail and elderly. Globally, the influential and once-objective medical journal the Lancet has hosted Eat Lancet, a coalition of vegan and vegetarian technocrats backed by processed food manufacturers, and promoted their agenda. The Guardian newspaper accepted an £626783 grant from the backers of Impossible Foods to run a series of articles against animal agriculture.
These initiatives, aimed at remodelling our food supply in a way that favours the multinational food processing and seed-and-chemical corporations, whose control of many aspects of farming and diet is already problematic, have run far ahead of the scientific community’s efforts to understand the health effects of such dietary change.

Our hunter-gatherer past
The Neolithic Revolution was the first alteration in human affairs that is generally considered worthy of the term Revolution. In Marx’s terms, it saw a change in the means of production sufficient to form new classes aware of their identities, and thus a change in the relations between people. Early humans had fed themselves in an opportunistic, hunter-gatherer fashion that tended to favour a diet of animals supplemented with plants where and when these were available. Large animals made the best meals but gathering activities could collect many smaller ones, as well as eggs, grubs etc.
The people of the Mesolithic era discovered that some animals could be herded and some plants grown in gardens (not usually by the same community, because one activity favours nomadism and the other favours a sedentary habit) but these activities, which greatly improved food security after the decline of the prehistoric mega-fauna due to hunting and climate pressures, tended to occur at the communal level and probably did not create major class differences between the people involved.
Tumblr media
The invention of farming
The Neolithic Revolution, which unleashed the human potential for war, creativity, and social division, resulted from the identification of the germs of plants (specifically grains and legumes) as durable sources of energy. If grains were grown (I will use grains in the wider sense of “cereals”, after Braudel, including other dried germs such as peas) and there was a surplus, this surplus would still be edible over the next year, a year when drought or pests or diseases might wipe out the other food sources that hunter-gatherers depended on. This advantage was offset by the nutritional poverty of grain-based diets, so that tuberculosis probably became an endemic disease during this period,[1] but the existence of a less-perishable surplus allowed the diversion of part of the population away from food gathering for large parts of the year, and saw the creation of armies and other workforces.
In Europe, the Neolithic Revolution is dated at around 10,000 BC and its arrangements are a matter of prehistory, but in China this change occurred later and the written record around Bi-gu or grain avoidance includes folk-memories of conflict between grain eating and grain avoiding peoples.
The history of colonisation is the history of the conquest of lactose-intolerant peoples by lactose-tolerant populations, and of non-grain eaters by grain-eaters. In the Indian sub-continent, a combination of dairy herding and a cereal diet high in legumes uniquely allowed the survival of a substantially vegetarian population, and saw the conservation of genes favouring reproduction on such a diet, including genetic polymorphisms still rare in European populations (adaptive mutations only predominate where many individuals without them have failed to survive or reproduce).[2] That the Indian social system became more aggressively class-based than any other is probably no co-incidence; prejudice against meat-eating is still used as a tool of social control against minorities, while meat-eating is one way young Indians today identify as modern and egalitarian. However there were some important exceptions to the trend – the Aztecs were a hunter-gather people who conquered and dominated the Mesolithic agriculturalists of Mexico, and the Mongols were nomadic herders and hunters whose greater stamina and independence allowed them to defeat the rice-fed armies of the Chinese Emperors (after conquering this breadbasket, the successive Mongol Khans seem to have eaten and drunk themselves to death).
Early vegetarian ideology
In the European and Asian cereal-based societies the poorest classes went without meat, supplementing cereals when possible with buttermilk or blood pudding which were more economic replacements. The rich ate as much meat as they could. The idea that an entire society might avoid meat is a recent one with its roots in religious practice, and, insofar as it has any political basis, this flows in two distinct streams – the eco-fascist, in which meat avoidance is a sign of “purity”, most humans are a burden on the Earth, and the Indian vegetarians are of course Aryans. This is something like the vegetarian vision that Adolf Hitler picked up while studying anti-Semitism with Wagner’s heirs at Bayreuth.
And then there is a Marxist-Anarchist, and latterly Intersectional, version, founded on a valuation of animal rights as inseparable from, and a logical extension of, human rights. Vegetarianism was a frequent obsession of the early British Socialists; G.B. Shaw, who derived most of his energy from dairy fat and lived to the age of 94, made himself into a well-known example, and the idea was sufficiently entrenched among the British Socialists and their milieu that H.G. Wells preserved its internal contradictions for posterity in The Time Machine. In his far-future vision, humanity has evolved into two separate species. The Morlocks are descendants of working-class meat-eaters, the Eloi of leisure-class vegetarians – all Wells’ loathing is reserved for the Morlocks, yet it is obvious they are (still) the engineering brains keeping their world running and the Eloi fed. The Eloi are useless for anything but enjoying the sunshine and feeding the Morlocks, and the discordance in Wells’ progressive values as he describes both species is as shocking as anything else in the story.
The first large-scale experiment in plant-based protein was attempted by the Bolsheviks. As usual, it’s hard to separate the roles played by idealism and cynicism in the story, but the bare bones are that the Soviets found their initial attempts to remodel the countryside rebuffed, blamed this on the recaltricance of the kulak class, and set out to destroy them. The problem being that the kulaks, owning most of the cattle and sheep across the Russian Republics, helped to feed the people. Beginning in the 1920s, soy experts from the USA (then the Western world’s leading soy producer) were among the many foreign technicians imported into Russia, and soy processing plants were built and soy production increased to 283,000 tonnes in 1931, the year Stalin unleashed enforced collectivisation and the terror against the kulaks (and also the Kazakhs, a herding people who suffered the largest proportionate loss of life during this period). This led to the loss of millions of animals, either killed by their dispossessed owners or mismanaged by their inexperienced new owners. The soy project was hardly able to prevent the massive famines that followed, and by 1935 soy production had dropped to 54,000 tonnes. Though soy milk would later prove useful during the siege of Leningrad, by the 1930s soy had probably only served one purpose, as a statistic needed aforehand to quell the objections of pragmatic delegates to the destruction of the kulaks and their livestock.
Today we face the revival of this idea, of plant protein that will create a world with no need for animal protein, and the remodelling of life in the countryside, with the new impetus of climate change as its driver. Livestock cycles natural carbon, meaning there is no net addition of C02 to the atmosphere – and its contribution to the shorter-lived methane precursor has not changed since 2000 (methane rises have been due to fracking, methane itself AKA “natural gas”, landfill, and rice production; methane-emitting animals have always existed on Earth in substantial numbers, and have not created a novel situation in the sense that the discovery of coal, oil and gas did). We have recently seen how much global disruption is required to reduce fossil fuel CO2 emissions to 2006 levels, levels which will still warm the planet if they continue. It could be still be worth reducing agricultural cycling of CO2 through methane, which is more warming than CO2 if this is cost-free, but is it?

Why humans evolved as meat eaters
Animal foods, and especially red meat, supply a constellation of nutrients not found together (if they are found at all) in any plant food. Nutrients are those chemicals essential for the functioning of the human organism, and plants, but not livestock, can survive well without nutrients such as amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins and minerals that are essential to humans. Surviving as a vegetarian or vegan is possible for some (perhaps assuming the genetic variants referred to earlier are present) but to thrive requires knowledge of these nutrients, where to find them, how to process the foods that supply them, or how to supplement them. Thriving as an omnivore or even a complete carnivore does not – nutritional sufficiency is the reason we evolved eating meat and other animal foods long before we learned there were such things as essential nutrients.
The reasons for avoiding meat or all animal foods can have a class basis – veganism may be taken up by educated middle-class adults, more likely to be exposed to “health food” ideas and aware of the need to supplement, some of whom then commercialise their habits as social media “influencers”. Meat avoidance is also being adopted increasingly by educated middle-class children for identity or compassionate reasons, but the poor may also avoid meat because of its cost when a loaf of bread or a packet of flavoured noodles can be bought for a dollar; these two motivations sometimes coincide when students in temporary poverty make a virtue of what they perceive to be a necessity.
Does the meat-avoiding behaviour of young people have unintended costs? Several observational studies have looked at the characteristics of meat-avoiding populations and found alarming increases in depression, anxiety and self-harm.
“The majority of studies, and especially the higher quality studies, showed that those who avoided meat consumption had significantly higher rates or risk of depression, anxiety, and/or self-harm behaviors. There was mixed evidence for temporal relations, but study designs and a lack of rigor precluded inferences of causal relations. Our study does not support meat avoidance as a strategy to benefit psychological health.”[3]
How can we explain these correlations? Why should we assume that they are causal? There are several lines of evidence to support a causal link: 1) several nutrients found in meat and animal foods are important factors in mood and cognition; vitamin B12, iron, carnitine, DHA, choline and tryptophan are some examples.[4] 2) the fatty acid mix in dairy and red meat has a similar composition to that of amniotic fluid and breast milk which has anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) effects in young animals.[5] 3) soy is a convenient and cheap replacement for animal protein; soy processing in Western diets results in a 10-fold higher level of the estrogenic contaminant isoflavone than that found in Asian diets.[6] Soy isoflavone causes anxiety behaviour in young female animals, and there is evidence supporting psychotropic and hormonal effects in humans.[7,8,9.10] Interestingly, while right-wing critiques of soy eating focus on effects it can have on young men, the scientific evidence for adverse effects in younger females, converting to HRT-like benefits after menopause, is stronger.[11] 4) other toxins found in plants, such as salicylates and oxalates, as well as problematic proteins such as gliadin/gluten and zein, may be present at higher levels in meat-free diets (but are not unique to them). A vegan mince sold in Countdown supermarkets is simply a coloured blend of soy protein and gluten, a protein linked to the risk of schizophrenia.[12] In the New Zealand context it would be relatively easy to confirm or dispute some of these associations. Everyone admitted to hospital for longer than a day supplies their dietary preferences. The dietetic preference data from psychiatric admissions could be both linked to outcomes over time and compared with the population average distribution, or the distribution in a ward where diet is least likely to play a role in admissions.
Iron deficiency in women
Young women in New Zealand are the most likely to report being vegan or vegetarian in surveys, as elsewhere in the world. Vegans in the Gender Studies field generate papers linking meat to masculinity, with the implication that this masculinity is toxic and might be improved by a plant-based diet.[13] The corollary of this belief – that women may therefore be weakened by meat-avoidance – is never considered. In a 1980 essay by Gloria Steinem called The Politics of Food (in the collection Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions) she describes some of the cultural constructs by which women are deprived of the good nutrition which men use to stay dominant. The belief that men need to eat red meat more often than women may have been valid when the average man was more likely to have to survive an attack by a wild bear than the average woman, but today it is mainly women who suffer from serious iron deficiency. The rate – and the cost to the health system – is increasing in New Zealand as more women give up meat. Iron deficiency anaemia in early pregnancy is associated with neurodevelopmental disorders in children, not an outcome that will increase the mother’s autonomy.[14]
In Georg Büchner’s 19th century “working class tragedy” Woyzeck, filmed by Werner Herzog with Klaus Kinski in the leading role and the subject of an opera by Alban Berg, the title character, a soldier, is subject to experimentation by a sadistic army doctor. The experiment involves Woyzeck living on nothing but peas. Peas may supply a complete protein, but Woyzeck goes insane; the deprivation being the final straw in his alienation. James Cameron, the film-maker responsible for Avatar and Titanic, is investing heavily in pea protein as if this were his gift to New Zealand. I am not sure whether he has watched Woyzeck – one would think he has.
Plant-based vs meat-based
Again, we have the specificity of plant germs as commodity; their low cost of production, long storage life and versatility of processing outcomes makes them an ideal investment and a robust one, as poverty and adversity increases their consumption, as we saw during the 2020 Lockdown Event. However, a plant-based burger is nutritionally greatly inferior to a meat burger, and that burger is often the most nutritious single food item many will people eat in the course of their day. The current push to eat a plant-based diet for “planetary health” is something that all the multinational food processors have signed up and provided funding for, and why not – Coca Cola, Unilever, Nestlé have always sold us plant-based foods. We notice that while iron-deficiency anaemia increases in New Zealand with the reason in plain sight, Nestlé scientists here in NZ are developing a more potent form of supplemental iron to add value to their products as their parent company backs the push to reduce meat. (As usual, it’s hard to separate the roles played by idealism and cynicism in the story). But, you may well ask, isn’t eating meat linked to an increased risk of cancer and heart disease? These associations are small to begin with, but they are also intensely confounded by social class and educational status. Supposing a factory that makes a carcinogenic chemical is hiring. Who is more likely to apply for that job – a meat eater (who will likely have a bigger family to support, among other considerations) or a vegan? Who, so to speak, eats all the pies, and needs food that is filling and nutritious without having to give it much thought? Who is more likely to work two jobs and be exposed to the disruptive metabolic effect of shift work? Carcinogen exposure and shift work are just two of the confounding variables ignored in diet epidemiology. (That meat-eating in Western populations may symbolise or associate with labour itself – as it did for H.G. Wells when he wrote The Time Machine – is not a consideration I have found discussed in the epidemiological literature.)
Certainly one can think of mechanisms that might link meat to disease, as one can with any food, but one can also think of protective mechanisms; several of the nutrients found mainly or only in animal foods are required for various antioxidant and immune defensive enzymes, and some like carnitine and EPA even have a place in the management of heart disease. The argument against meat-eating should not be confused with the argument for sometimes rationing a valuable food that is in short supply. The wartime rationing of meat in the UK is thought to have improved the health of the poorest by guaranteeing a greater supply than they had had previously, at a more affordable price. In Europe, the peasants who supplied the cities with meat, dairy and luxury foods such as oysters were sometimes forced by network disruptions to consume these foods – which many of them had never tasted before – with benefit to their own health.
The plant-based agenda can scarcely be expected to recognise these benefits, or understand the argument summarised by Williams and Dunbar (with regard to the vitamin nicotinamide and amino acid tryptophan in their tuberculosis paper), that if better data collection and analysis resulted in us ”…returning to our egalitarian past and redistributing meat or its components that supply NAD (avoiding both the highs and the lows between individuals and over individual lifetimes) [this] may be more effective than subsidizing corn grain (while the increased prosperity from unlocking human potential should pay for the intervention).”[1] Progress – which includes unlocking human potential from the chains of preventable mental and physical disease – depends on good data, and we do not yet seem to collate the data required to know whether or for whom plant-based diets are safe in New Zealand.
George Henderson works as a researcher for Professor Grant Schofield and the team behind the What The Fat books and the social enterprise PreKure, which has been running free lifestyle and health programs through the lockdown. He is the author or co-author of several scientific articles and letters published by the BMJ, Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology, the JAMA, and other journals, including an influential review of low carbohydrate diets in diabetes management for the New Zealand Medical Journal. A musician, songwriter and amateur musicologist, he has recently presented a series of podcasts on 20th century women composers for Karyn Hay’s Lately show on RNZ.

Note
This entire thing is a rant, feel free to ignore it, but I saw your post about how destiel fans can’t win in this context, and yeah. So have some rambles.
I’ve been thinking about the fact we (current spn/destiel fans) can’t win all night... I’ve seen so many people talking about how homophobic it is - and while I would very much like to argue, as every point I’ve seen made by a non-spn fan has been wrong so far, if I did everyone inside the fandom would agree and everyone outside would either call me straight or pity me for believing it’s okay.
(Cas wasn’t even sent to hell lmao. He was sent to angel death (the empty), a place he has escaped in the past. Other points, like that meta about spn has been predicting exactly this for months, that Dean ended up sobbing on the floor because he was so upset, like that death means next to nothing on spn, like that there is two episodes left, etc etc. you feel me right? I just don’t want to post wank to other spn blogs atm, we’re getting enough frustration as it is, no need to add to it.
It’s also worth pointing out that the bar is very, very low. Spn is a prominent TV show - not a Netflix show, or indie, or whatever - and it just said “main character in gay love saved the world”. [insert gif of ghostfacers dude saying that gay love can pierce through the veil of death and save the day here]
I just saw someone saying that spn having Naomi try to brainwash Cas out of loving dean makes spn homophobic (it is a conversion therapy parallel). My first response to that is that Naomi was the villain lmao? I guess we can’t write villains doing anything homophobic because having villains do homophobic things makes, uh - checks notes - villains look homophobic, and clearly we can’t have that.
There certainly are legitimate things to criticise spn about, but this isn’t it lol.
Also now some people are unironically trying to cancel Jensen because “his acting was homophobic, and so he’s clearly homophobic”, nevermind that he’s an actor and his character struggles with understanding his emotions (which I think he played excellently, myself. That scene had a very Dean delayed emotional response), nevermind the support he’s given to us queers in the past. Like. Idek man.
We would have been laughed at if we got no destiel, too.
It would have been worse, had the writers pulled a dumbledore. At this point I also trust the writers not to pull a GoT - they have explicitly criticised that ending in spn’s canon.
Spn’s writers did that by making the main villain of this season, Chuck / God, say GoT had a good ending. To reiterate a previous point I had: villains do bad things because they’re bad. And the bad things they do make them bad. For the people out there not still following, if someone does something in a story and it makes them a villain, that is explicitly telling you the story (and probably the writers) thinks that thing is bad. In this case, Chuck likes to write things for him, and we the audience have been shown and told that is bad.
Apparently thinking a gay confession is good in 2020 makes me straight. Seems unlikely, but whatever. Sorry for the length, I guess I went overboard, I’ve been holding it in lol. Anyway, DESTIEL IS CANON 💚💙 hope you have a good night
Helloo supernatural anon I hope you are living your best life right now. Yeah I’m like..... skeptical and leery myself but having lived through some absolute garbage discourse that is general purity wank, as well as the C/QL greater fandom here and on Twitter I find myself... much more wanting to question the “general wisdom” of things esp in terms of negativity, bc a lot of the time I find.... it’s wrong? Like so wrong. Or at least presents such an incomplete picture of the whole situation and also presents it in such a removed context that words that have meaning and are operationalized in a certain way for a reason, no longer have meaningful usage.
Anyway I don’t... know too much about the specifics of Spn but someone I follow is into it and talks a lot about the Gnostic stuff and that all was very fascinating to me, and I also have been grappling a lot with cultural Christianity bc of cmedia and the way ppl just *clenches fist* unthinkingly or uncritically slap some Christian norms on it and call it a day 😩 help I’m Tired. My thing here being... I actually got tired of the uncritical “superhell”s at some pt bc I am, in fact, incredibly exhausted with cultural Christianity, and because it does seem like, even possibly(?) without the Gnostic stuff it’s different from a “hell” or other Protestant-derived afterlife concept, and also yeah that it wasn’t seeded out of nowhere, it was set up to happen, which then... lends credence to the idea that whatever the current era of Spn is doing, the current showrunners are doing it with purpose.
And idk I just... refuse to believe the concept that ALL of the fans of Spn - esp the ones who have been following it still, or got back into it and are following it currently, are acting under delusion or are fooling themselves into liking it or thinking it’s good or whatever. I personally find that kinda infantilizing and patronizing and playing into issues of dismissing things women and/or other marginalized identities like.
Plus I find the concept that (from what I think I’ve been seeing Spn fans say) that the current era of the show is quite actively grappling with itself, its past, its legacy. to be very interesting and compelling; it hearkens back to like an old lore kind of feeling, of a thing that has grown into a nigh undefeatable monster and realizing that, also realizing that the only way to defeat itself is through grappling with its own nature and transforming and transmuting itself into something else. I personally find that more plausible and compelling than “Supernatural has been actively and continuously queerbaiting for 15 homophobic homophobic years., so right now we’re all very sorry for you because this maybe is no longer queerbaiting but it’s still homophobic and it can never be anything different ever.” I’ve been sort of tangentially aware of Spn thru the years and didn’t we agree, around the time of that in-universe play about Spn and with the lil Destiel shoutout, that Spn has come a ways as far as coming to terms with its fandom and working to treat its fans better? Why the sudden regression into “oh no, Supernatural is and forever will be homophobic and a hate crime”? 🤔
The rest under a cut bc the ask is already long and then my rambling will get longer-
But yeah I mean..... I get that the legacy of Supernatural has been certifiably Rough, but I think people also forget how different of a time 2005 was? Hell, how different of a time 2015 was, even, prior to, say, Obergefell v. Hodges. Now I’m not saying that to blanket-excuse Supernatural, but like, you look at mainstream shows from the era and... there’s a lot of shit lmao. The fact that Supernatural has existed this long seems to me like.... maybe we CAN look at how it’s developed through the years vs just insisting it is what it was 15, 10, hell, 5 years ago. Especially since, to my knowledge, there’s been showrunner changes? Which seems to me like it would... affect things? I mean honestly, I remember back when I got into Spn for a hot second because of Castiel, I remember watching panel, Q&A, etc vids thru the years, and like... I thought we agreed that... it was the fans who were going a bit far pushing the shipping question like literally ALL the time to the actors, who are not in control of the show and.... like at the time.... that could have had personal implications for them? And yes homophobia bad, and people can still be allies despite that, but again like.... I do feel like - from what I’ve seen - that these guys were NOT ready to deal with a lot of that but they’ve (okay Jensen I’m talking about Jensen here) genuinely grown and learned? Also how many years ago was the essay autograph thing that people keep trotting out, like what year was it in and what year of spn was it, and what were the prevailing opinions on LGBT issues and bisexuality then.
I’ve been seeing some murmurings of identity politicsing surrounding ppl who enjoy Supernatural, and I’m sorry that that’s happening to you, it really fucking sucks and it’s also the dumbest way to “make” or “win” an argument because it shouldn’t ever be a final determiner, just factors to consider when considering what life experiences might have informed someone else’s PoV and views as well as maybe how you can better communicate with them. Instead of it being a “weapon” or “tool” to either dismiss someone or de facto validate an argument.
Also yeah I get it that you don’t want to send discourse to spn blogs bc I imagine you guys ARE actively grappling with all the bs rn and it’s a lot. Even just from like, the stuff I see around, I’m like tired of it. I’m genuinely having more fun with ppl who are having a good time with Supernatural than the ppl who are hating on it, even in this sort of backhanded “oh we’re not clowning YOU we’re clowning the writers and showrunners who think you should be satisfied with this,” when... yeah? the people who HAVE been watching the show and therefore... know what’s up.. DO seem to be? And all this based on *fake gasp* context. And that’s where the backhandedness becomes kind of poisonous to me, because it implies that it IS bad, and that you SHOULDN’T be satisfied, but poor little you are but don’t worry, we’re not making fun of YOU for liking garbage, you’re just the hapless victim who is consuming the garbage bc... idk, whatever reasons ppl are coming up with ig.
idk man it’s 2020. Fandom isn’t activism, performative or otherwise, it’s okay to let people enjoy things even if you think they’re “objectively” bad, and like... I don’t know if people can call something bad when they’re not even working with the whole context and instead are dealing with rumor and reputation.

Other Characters
blair @ bloomhearth
Faceclaim(s) & Series
 Yumeko Jyabami from Kakegurui
Character Name
Ane Uyeno though to speak her name is bad omen thus she’s been rendered to the title of Hamestu no Miko ( Priestess of Ruination ).  Hamestu works just fine.
Housing
Personal , wanderer // works as the resident gravekeeper
Age
unaging yet looks to be in her late teens, early 20’s. Exact age is undetermined, though she claims to be older than many peoples’ generations.
Appearance
as fate would have it, her appearance is the same as it was all those years ago when she was sacrificed in the name of a god that she did not know. Her hair no longer grows, it also no longer dies. Her nails no longer grow, they are as they were that day she was offered.  Her overall appearance is fair normal, long jet black hair that reaches down to her waist, a fitting body figure for her type - slenderly built limbs ( though by no means are they weak ), painted nails though its only a base coat. Her distinguishing feature is her eyes, oh her eyes. They see more than the human eye, they’re not normal eyes by any means. They shine vividly with an otherworldly tinge as if they’re the eyes of a predator far above this mortal plane. She has brands, so many brands but you won’t see them ‘pon her porcelain skin. They have found home within her body, within the muscle underneath the layers of skin. Cut her open and you’ll see them, those damning markings that were placed upon her.  Her walk and gestures are peppy, fluid. They’re too fluid, even. It makes you wonder how she can move in such a manner after all she has been through, after all the torture she has felt upon her body and mind. She smiles, she smiles a lot. Almost constantly so, it’s unsettling. The curve of her lips don’t seem friendly but it mimics that of sincerity. She has learned how to play the part of her prey, to blend in without issue. She is the wolf in the skin of the sheep as her clothes.
Are they a part of the Adventurer’s Guild?
she is not.
Warnings: ritualistic sacrifice / human sacrifice / ritual murder, death, demonic possession, mind breaking, branding, torture, discrimination, minimal cannibalism, cults
Personality
Impression #1:  She is odd. Doesn’t seem in the right mind. Impression #2: Discards personal space. Very hands on. It’s creepy. Impression #3: Always smiling. Is she always happy? It is unsettling. Impression #4: Her eyes, they unnerve me greatly. They feel as if they gaze at me with hunger. Like I am a mouse before a hungry, no – starving serpent. I am afraid. Impression #5: She’s not normal. She’s not human. She’s not of this world. Impression #6: Help me.  a woman who cannot be described in normal terms. all that comes to mind is she is weird. she is abnormal. she unnerves me.  i regret meeting her, despite her allure. she is a true predator among this earth. all should avoid with caution. she charms you in by acting normal. by acting like the prey. by seeming like she is one of us. it’s a lie, all a lie. it’s a ruse, a mechanism for hunting. she knows we’ll fall for it. why don’t we learn? whatever made her did a damn good job at replicating a demon that imitates god. she sweet talks you, this is what drags you in. i fell for this, what a fool i am. do not fall for it, i beg of you. she’ll only pull you further and further into hell. do not follow her, do not respond to her cooing. ignore her, ignore this beast! yet, to ignore her only provides a more worthwhile hunt for her. we can never win. if we ignore her, she stalks us like the predator she is, watching us, observing us. she’s such a good pretender. so very good. how many has she fooled before me? how much blood is on her hands? why does she hunt us? why…does she exist? please, avoid this alluring woman. she will only bring to misfortune. only bring you misery. only bring you hell.
Background
hear us, o god among us.  we offer thee a befitting body, that of purity. that of virginity. take this gracious offering and become apart of this mortal plane and lead us forward. we seek thy guidance, so please, hear us. our lord will come upon us and we will begin a new age, a new era upon man. the era of the end will begin and we will move forward, we will move beyond this limitating mortality. we will be free, we will be born anew. —  i remember their chants, i remember the pain. the agonizing pain. my body was cut up, my skin peeled to be carved into. oh god, why won’t you let me die already? let me die. let this pain end. — —   the pain won’t end, all i remember is red. red pain. my eyesight is only red. all i could smell was red. taste red. feel red. someone, help me.  — and now, we will fully offer thee this body. please, take our gracious offering! —  metal. metal has suddenly entered my body. will it finally end? my eyes…they’re going blank..is it finally over? this agonizing hell?  — something is wrong. why has the body become fully occupied? what have we done wro— —   I did not die. I am no longer who I once was. But I am hungry. So very hungry. — (   she ate. she ate them all. no one survived her revival. she still hungers. she’s so very hungry. ) —  I am hungry. I am starving.  — ( in a body that is no longer hers. ) —  my injuries. they have healed. yet i am still so hungry. — ( she cannot feel pain again. ) —  I must eat. My body aches with this hunger. — ( she aches and yearns for the feeling of being full. ) — I must devour. — ( and devour she will. ) forgive us, lord. we have failed to supply you a body. we have failed to bring forth the end. (  the end has begun regardless. ) ( everything will be devoured. )
Level
2 ( for now )

nigh immortality  →  no longer ages and will no longer die by a means of old age or disease though she can be killed. predator’s adaptation  →  she has the ability to blend in to normal society and conceal her inhumanity to those of normal standing. beings of the supernatural / higher standing creatures will be able to detect she is not human. presence intimidation  →  can cause fear / unease in other creatures just by her being there. typically scares off animals but causes minor unease in people.
Specific Powers/Abilities/Traits of Note
blood magic →  can use blood to cast magic / preform rituals. usually her own blood though due to the circumstance of her sacrifice, only untainted pure blood can be used outside of her own. becomes more ‘mad’ the more she uses it, rots her mind and reason further. blood transcendency → ability to transcend using the blood of others for empowerment.  she can only transcend if given the blood freely and she can only ingest blood as a source of food as a permanent side effect.

wings vcr theory ???? aka what is happening
wow ok so i thought that people connecting every era of bts M/V’s were maybe looking into it too much (and as a lit student like. i know what it means to close read) but via this vid (@jinjjarevil on twitter) apparently I WAS WRONG and here is the reason why
1) the return of jin & the flower petals
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as we are all familiar: the general consensus is that the 6 flower petals represent the rest of bts’ members (re: everyone EXCEPT jin), and it’s often agreed upon that he’s “filming” the boys because 1) he’s dead and dreaming them up or 2) he’s recalling all his memories with them or 3) the boys are dead and he’s the only one alive or 4) tbh pick ur poison i’m not gonna make this post a breeding ground for HYYH theory discourse, but i’m down to talk elsewhere !!!!
this part isn’t particularly groundbreaking, but it’s the first direct link to the young forever M/Vs
HOWEVER !!!!the difference arrives when the shot cuts to what jin is filming; it seems that there are seven people in frame? (this is at 0:52 in the video)
Tumblr media
which leads me to believe that, because WINGS is a continuation of young forever, it makes sense that jin manages to find his way back to the boys - something that connects itself to a bs&t theory i have. the general rundown of my interp is the (6) members are literally works of art in the museum, and when jin starts to “crack” at the end of the M/V, it’s because he joins them as an art piece; they’ve drawn him in (kissing tae’s statue, the hands over his eyes, tae covering up jin’s face with his hands, jin stopping to stare at the painting near the beginning) and this is how jin ends up joining the rest of the group
2) the focus shot of jungkook
Tumblr media
again, parallels to run, where there’s a solo part that’s just him staring into the cam (once after his fight with yoongi, again at the end of the M/V). he’s staring into jin’s camera and, subsequently, at jin himself - likely wondering 1) why he isn’t with the rest of the group or 2) who he is/what he’s doing
from a cinematographic point of view, this is probably just a cool transition shot, since the members all need their solo screentime + the cuts won’t be too sudden, but i like the repeating themes they’ve been using :0
3) taehyung's wings
in the beginning of the video, taehyung is seen matching himself up to a pair of wings in a box behind him. the glass to his left side says “YOUTH”
Tumblr media
the main thing to note here is that the feathers are white, compared to the thousands of other shots of tae with black wings (M/V, trailers, teasers, you name it). once he breaks the box to access them (AKA shattering youth or the illusion thereof), taehyung strips away his innocence - similar to when he killed his father “i need you”
white is a color that often symbolizes purity/chastity while black is. well. has evil and sinister connotations, as well as a demonic undertone, if you want to get biblical (hold onto this thought now; it’ll return with my jimin analysis), so it makes sense they’d use this color palette with taehyung’s storyline
4) hoseok’s wings
hoseok is seen eating his snicker bar (lov my man omfg), but after he takes a bite, the wall behinds him shatters into color. in the first round, the camera pulls tighter in on him and the word “placebo” can be seen clearly behind hobi
Tumblr media
i think this directly references the placebo effect, in which one’s condition improves/degrades depending on your mindset of your illness. in both eras, HYYH and wings short films, hoseok is often depicted dealing with drugs, pills, and medication. he and jimin are even seen in a hospital together (again, spanning both timelines), which leads me to believe that he’s using prescriptions to deal with the fact he’s suffering from something meds can’t cure. what is it? that’s a great question i only have vague answers to. it could be the fact that he’s missing his friends/bts family? is (still) suicidal? trying to cope with their loss? his condition has worsened after losing jimin, which is why he is in a max safety cell with all those pills pouring in through the walls? listen, who knows? i sure don’t, but i can definitely talk about the next shot!!!!!!!!!!! right afterwards, hoseok also gains a pair of wings, but notice they’re different than taehyung’s
Tumblr media
these are his BME wings (they show up in his intro, u can go check it out if you want). his corrupted wings. his Bad Wings. and they come from the crossover of boy and evil.
boy = youth = wings MEETS evil = dark/cool toned colors (evil) = bony (feather) structure
^ is why his wings look the way they do (thank u @ opening shot of taehyung’s YOUTH/wing box haha)
5) progression of their lives/jimin’s solo shot
there are five (?) consecutive scenes with all the boys goofing off together. the vid quality’s pretty low so i can’t tell who is who, but it seems like they’re all just chilling. hanging out. being bros. etc. so i’m lead to believe the first three “windows” of light (bc each scene is separated by a long black column) are before any bts M/V timeline. then you have jihope in a hospital/nondescript room together - directly related to run and jimin’s wings short - in opposite beds, being playful like their pillow fight in run.
last there is the truck with all 6 of the boys in the trunk from run
these shots lead up to jimin in his blindfold, holding an apple in his hand (seen clearer in the actual vid)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is his costume from bs&t/his solo stuff/is part of “lie’s” concept. the blindfold could mean many things, so i’ll focus on the apple for now. in his promo shots, he’s surrounded by many apples, something i was always confused about, BUT I AM NO LONGER !!don’t worry!!!
as bts has said multiple times, bs&t is about boys who fall to temptation, and what better symbol of temptation than eve in the garden of eden - the first woman who is unable to resist the forbidden fruit? DAMN THAT’S RIGHT !!!!!!! you can have him holding an apple - the figurehead of eve failing to resist her temptations and, therefore, the way jimin/bts fails to resist their temptations. this is why jimin’s holding the fruit in all his shots lol. it’s because he’s already picked the apple off the tree & “fallen” prey to his desires
6) Bangtan and the Curious Case of Looking Up
at the end of the video, right after jimin takes off his blindfold, the VCR cuts to bts all looking up at the sky, faces illuminated. this is likely a symbol that they literally “see the light” - a popular term that means someone has died and is crossing over to the other side/heaven/the afterlife. this makes sense, because of the HYYH theories imply everyone is dead or ends up dying (since young forever implies bts meets up in heaven)
the thing that sets this apart for me is the fact that EVERYONE BUT JIN IS LOOKING UP @ THE SKY. jin is the first member to get focus during this scene; he’s just standing there staring straight at the camera, a motif that showcases their character is detached from the rest of the members in bts’ M/Vs. it’s like they’re not quite there, even though one member may appear alongside everyone else (jin & jungkook in HYYH).
here: jin’s seen looking side to side, even a little upwards, but never completely like the rest of the members
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
besides his dashing good looks and impeccable suit taste, jin seems worried. he seems to be obviously, obviously worried. however, the other members don’t have this expression on their faces; they’re at varying levels of peace or happiness or excitement when they each get their solo cut (i’m not gonna put 6 pics after jin’s bc that would just take too much room due to tumblr’s poor image spacing rules rip, but they’re all in a thread in that link credit up top)
jin looks like he’s confused and baffled and searching for something (or someones ;;)))) amiright or amiright) during this scene - a motif that corresponds with the HYYH/my bs&t theory of jin being alone in some way, shape, or form
“WAIT” you say “BUT JIN DOES LOOKS UP AT THE END !!1!11!1!!!” you say
“yes my friend !!” i say
you are absolutely right. he is eventually seen looking up into the light like the other boys. however there are two things of things to notice: first is that he’s never looking up completely (comparison below)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and right as he fades into the background - he starts lowering his head (it’s easier to see this when the actual video is playing) back down to the camera - his expression still troubled. again, this shows he’s still separated from the rest of bts, even though he seemed to be very close to joining them.
so maybe he’s still dead. maybe he’s still trapped and he’s looking for a way out and his distress comes from knowing his members are going Somewhere Without Him, but i guess what happens next is on bts.....
i hope they keep going with this storyline; i’d love to see where it goes :0
