EPISODE 5 PJO SHOW

Well, okay. This episode did not, in any way, impress me. There were some cute percabeth moments, thats about it. Here goes:

still annoyed that percy is wet. like, cmon. he's supposed to be freaking dry. that's one of his damn SUPERPOWERS. In fact, I require more percy powers throughout the whole damn episode. They are toning it down intentionally. Percy does cool shit all the time in TLT. But here, apparently, annabeth is like "whaa? You used your water powers? What the fuck????" like girl, yeah. he's a fucking sea god. smh. i'm just sick of it, but if you know me, you know that i'm a total slut for percy powers.

WHY IS ANNABETH THE ONE WHO SAW THE FATES ??????? LIKE, THIS IS PERCY'S QUEST??? HE'S THE CHILD OF THE PROPHECY??? grrrr

I'm at least glad that they are talking about the master bolt... And the quest... felt like it was on a back burner there for a minute!!!!! LMAO

I'm glad we're seeing the national man hunt. And seeing gabe on the news and what not. It's still underwhelming, but I'm glad that it's there. One of the best parts of this quest.

When percy says "i'm gonna kill him" when he sees gabe. like yes. please continue this attitude. I wish we saw him more angry. like physically, verbally angry. It was annabeth who was sassy to ares, instead of percy. why ??

Why did grover stay back? why do they do this. why can't the mystery just naturally unfold. Why do they insist on having these super plot revealing scenes that do nothing for the plot (aka when grover stayed back with ares to basically trick him to giving them info. like, whatever)

The whole "push percy" scene with the revolving doors of the amusement park. That's five minutes I'll never get back.

I really loved the percabeth nonsense and the What Is Love and the cool animation on the walls. Cuteness.

The waterpark scene after that got super bad!!!! LMAO. WHAT the frick??? WHERE ARE THE SPIDERS? WHAT WAS THAT WEIRD CHAIR SCENE? WHY WAS THERE 10 YEARS OF USELESS DIALOGUE BEFORE HE GOT IN THE STUPID CHAIR?

is anyone else concerned about the fact that I legitimately, for a few seconds, thought that they would leave percy frozen for the rest of the show? nobody? BECAUSE IT'S BEEN THE ANNABETH SHOW IN LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE SCENE. THE DEPTH OF THE SHOW IS LIKE... HYPERFOCUSING ON HER. WHICH I LOVE HER, I DO, BUT IN EVERY EPISODE SHES THE ONE WITH ALL THE INTENSE DISCUSSIONS AND SCENES. WTFFFFFF

There was a little percy attitude at the end there, with ares. So that was nice.

if they reveal luke as the person who stole the bolt BEFORE the last episode, i'm going to be pissed. grover apparently knows who stole the bolt. Um, that's a little concerning. we shall see.

Guys, I hope this post wasn't too crazy. But I don't even know what the heck anymore. adding a gif of shia labeouf to inspire future percy powers lmao

Gender: Male.

Age: 10 years old.

Magic: Hallucination. (Aka, able to hallucinate people and control them).

Weapon: 2 old rusted pistols.

Personality: Curious, ignorant, immature, childish, pretty positive, encouraging, kinda dumb.

Parents: Dusttale!Sans and Underfell!Sans.

More info:

He has two "canonal" (cause there's other Dustcherry shipkids but yknow, in his mutliverse) younger twin siblings called Rose and Raspy, both 7 year olds. He calls the two 'Brother' and 'Sister' instead of their actual names because his very fond of them and is proud to have two siblings. He will protect them when in danger, thou its usually them that protects him because somehow their more mature then him. But they still love eachother. (Raspy is by @awelldressedtornado and Rose is by @awelldressedtornado and me).

Rust gets trained by his dad, Dust, everyday, or well, most of the time. The two sometimes forget. Dust trains Rust to use his pistols and also hallucination sometimes if they find someone to use it on. His the reason Rust is able to use hallucination and guns at the age of 13.

Rust is very fond of his other dad, Fell. He always asks him questions, tries to imitate what he does (thou his not a lil ball of anger like Fell so it's nearly impossible), follows him almost everywhere and calls him Papa. Fell is probably the favourite parent thou he loves both of his dad's equally.

Rust's favourite food is plain ass snow and snowcones. Here's why: When Rust (Also baby rust :)) was first brought to this world we call the multiverse, Dust and Fell didn't know anything about taking care of children and they lived in Dusttale so they couldn't ask anyone. So, when Rust was hungry and started crying, Fell suggested to feed him snow. Dust said no cause wtf thats stupid and he said "Free food". So Dust went out and fed Rust snow and he LOVED it. So thats where his gotten his love for snowcones and.. Plain ass snow.

Rust rarely swears. Or just never swears at all. Nobody knows why, he just says when he swears it hurts his mouth or something. So he never swears. (He says like: Heck, frick, fishsticks, crap, ect.)

Rust is very attached to his necklace and never takes it off, mainly because he got it as a gift when he was very young and promised himself to never take it off once he put it on. (He also lost it once and that traumatised him, sooo... Yeahh..)

Rust has a huge fear of water, which is kinda ironic since he likes snow which is made of water but y'know, he more has a fear of.. Swimming. He doesn't like rivers, lakes, oceans, pools, ect. He will never go in, maybe touch it with his feet but thats it. I think it's because he fell in the river nearby back then and was really traumatised. He can drink water, eat ice, nicecream, snow, ect and play around in the snow, just... Not swim in.. Big piles of liquid.

Rust has a cat called Jaws! It's a lil black kitten or cat. Prob a teen cat, with a red ripped bandana. He loves playing with him and petting him, and especially chasing after him. Thou, Jaws belongs to Dust. And they SOMETIMES practice hallucination on Jaws, but only sometimes, cat lives matter people.

BASIC INFO:

I need to fill about 10 guest comic slots.

Comics should be at least 1 single page. (Max 4 pages)

Comics should be in full color.

Comics need to be X-mas/Winter themed!

I also accept illustrations, but they must have a clear narrative or dialogue!

Tone can be humorous, serious, anything like that. As long as it’s Space School and X-mas/Winter themed all at once.

I would love to see some of these past outfits re-created in any comics but new ones or just general winter themed outfits are fine too. Zeggy should most always be Santa though, unless joke calls for otherwise. BUT! Jokes trump everything– if it’s funny, I want it.

SPACE SCHOOL AND THE HOLIDAYS:

Because Winter-time has always been a time of hoilday-stuffs for lots of places and planets (especially those who were colonized by Earth or Nubia) Space School most often gives the whole school lots of time off in December from school-life.

All holidays are accepted to celebrated within the walls as long as everyone is being respectful of each other– as with most things in Space School. The School decorates mostly with lights and tries to stay away from leaning one way or the other. Students are allowed to decorate inside their dorms as they please, obviously.

Most students leave home to their respective planets for the holidays but some students and teachers stay at the school thru the whole month– sometimes celebrating together!

It’s an exciting and peaceful time for everyone~

Alkaline, Zeggy, and Toggy usually go home for the holidays (sometimes together) and Joe stays at the school. Sometimes Joe joins Toggy, Terrago, and Omnivera at their homes.

Dude, Maleena, and Vava either see their separate families alone or all stay together in their home near the school.

Dennis and Booker spend the holiday cooped up alone at Booker’s apartment avoiding everyone but each other.

ZEGGY AND HIS PLANET’S CULTURE:

Zeggy is canonically the most all about Christmas out of the whole group.

X-mas was an adopted holiday by Ollce when Earth colonized the planet and as such, it resembles Christmas as we known it with some key differences.

As far as the tree goes, it starts out as a sculpted pile of dirt resembling a tree or other X-mas object that is watered thru the month with various glowing mushrooms and other fun alien-glowy-bits appearing as it’s watered– so by the time Christmas rolls around the tree will have grown it’s own ornaments to light up the room!

You buy bags of seed/spores each year for the tree, these bags make great gifts and are often put in stockings!!!

Otherwise, a lot of the traditions are the same with either having different looking aesthetics. They do stockings, presents under the tree, and Santa– who instead of having a sleigh– instead rides a single giant mole (which is a creature from purple planet, I can provide reference for) and is of course, purple himself. He rides this mole– who is named Rudolf, around all the underground cities of Ollce delivering presents to all the kids.

Zeggy gets into the holiday spirit way too early and way too fast. He decorates his whole dorm room as well as wearing as much X-mas accessories as he’s allowed over his school uniform.

He’s the type of person to put everything non-Christmas away and replace it with Christmas themed things.

He absolutely spoils Alkaline with tons and tons and way too many gifts– all of which are extremely personalized.

Otherwise, he only buys presents for his parents/grandparents, Joe, Toggy, and gives cards to his teachers. Most of his efforts go towards Alkaline.

He eats a billion food, sings a billion songs, and is fucking obnoxious. It’s beautiful.

ALKALINE AND HIS TRADITIONS:

Alkaline likes Christmas just as much as everyone else and is definitely not as hype as Zeggy because who could match Zeggy’s energy, honestly. But, he definitely gets into the spirits! Enjoys the food, drink, songs, presents– etc.

Christmas on Earth is very similar to what we think of it now which some differences– many of which haven’t totally been decided upon so feel free to have some fun interpretations.

Christmas has most definitely become a non-religious holiday in most all senses on Earth. It’s more just about the aesthetics and being with family members, buying fits, eating food, etc.

Alkaline is either with Zeggy in his home on Ollce or has Zeggy over on Earth. He stays with his Mom and Sister, visiting extended family on Christmas Day for dinner.

Alkaline buys everyone he knows presents– even if it’s just something small!

I usually draw Alkaline as a reindeer because Alkaline with antlers is super cute.

JOE’S ‘CHRISTMAS’:

Christmas isn’t celebrated where Joe is from– they have other traditions. However; Christmas Day is actually Joe’s birthday– which he usually chooses to spend alone or with Dennis or Lorna (his girlfriend)– depending on the age.

As such, Joe doesn’t care too much about Christmas and see’s it more of just as “his birthday” but starts to appreciate the holiday more when Zeggy’s festive spirit invades him. And, he likes the presents.

I’m sure Zeggy and Joe have some special X-mas moments together with Zeggy trying to show Joe all about “The Christmas Spirit”!

TOGGY’S TRADITIONS:

On Nubia, they don’t really have a Christmas but rather a big celebration of a New Year like holiday where they begin the new calendar year. Like Christmas, it’s a time to celebrate with family and loved ones.

Typically people travel long distances to spend the two days reunited with family, and everything shuts down. The most important part of the festivities is to tell stories about the year–letting out stress or frustration while also reliving good moments and bonding with family members.

This is always accompanied by large amounts of alcoholic beverages, which are enjoyed by all ages.

Oftentimes everyone gets really smashed the first day and then sleeps it off the next. Food varies from region to region but typically includes mostly unprocessed foods such as berries and vegetables, or dried lizard or fish jerky. As the festivities mark the beginning of the new year, many Nubians will dye their hair to a different color or get a new piercing around this time. Presents aren’t really a thing on Nubia, though it is common for parents and grandparents to give their children small sums of money to encourage them to have new adventures in the new year.

Toggy’s family is a bit more accustomed to Earth traditions though, and so he tries to buy his close friends gifts for “Christ-mass” but they are always strange and often food.

DUDE, MALEENA, VAVA:

The 3’s traditions are similar to Alkaline’s since they’re all from Earth– so not much to say there.

Dude spends a lot of time in an apron baking cookies, cakes, etc as presents for everyone he knows and Vava and Maleena definitely gain some weight this time of year.

They all get drunk a lot and laugh a lot and just have a good time together BEING A LIL FAMILY.

Dude always makes sure to exchange presents with students he’s helped thru the year; since he often takes troubled students under his wing.

DENNIS AND BOOKER:

Booker nicely decorates his apartment and spends a lot of time with Dennis on the couch eating food and talking. They frick a lot too.

It’s chill.

OMNIVERA AND TERRAGO:

As the resident “gays into roleplays”, Omnivera and Terrago do a lot of dressing up for X-mas.

There’s a lot of time Terrago will be with Toggy’s family with them– and so I’m sure Omnivera is there sometimes as well. In a billion, expensive outfits.

The two of them absolutely spoil each other and nobody else in presents– except for Toggy who they buy something for– OF COURSE.

NOTE ABOUT REX: Due to some wild stuff happening with the creator of Rex, Rex will no longer be appearing in Space School and therefore should not be appearing in any Guest Comics! Sorry!

so I have some feelings about The Calling

...meaning the second novel in the Dragon Age universe. Story-wise I don’t like it as much as The Stolen Throne, and yet here I am feeling some feelings, dang it all David Gaider. Let’s talk about that. (also novel/DAO/DAI/Awakening spoilers are ahead if you care)

•this has a very Dragon Age: Origins feel throughout, mostly bc Grey Wardens/darkspawn/Blight/Deep Roads/yada yada...which may be why I had trouble getting into it. The only thing I really like about Origins are the characters and the rest is just not my favorite--same energy here.

•and all you really need to know is that this is just Dragon Age’s version of Rogue One. Yep that’s it.

•and that it actually shows why Loghain is such a POS to the Wardens in Origins. Dude holds a grudge like nobody’s business.

•WHY ARE WE ALWAYS IN THE MAKER-DAMNED DEEP ROADS FFS

•okay so I don’t like Genevieve, there I said it. She reminds me WAY too much of Meredith, with her extremity and her almost irrational temper. I get that characters don’t have to be likable but she her only redeeming quality was that she spared Duncan. Honestly, the Architect has more depth as a character.

•Speaking of the Architect, what a fascinating character. A darkspawn who speaks?? With reasoning and maybe even empathy?? I am also playing Awakening now but I think I like him better here, you get to actually hear his motivations and see him show compassion to Bregan. He doesn’t even feel like an antagonist, not the way someone like King Meghren or Corypheus does. He’s not hungry for power, he just wants...peace for his people. Yeah he wants to sacrifice mankind to get there but can you blame him for having flawed logic?? His only conversation partners are mindless darkspawn.

•WHY ARE WE IN THE FADE AGAIN MAKER’S BREATH

•just Fiona and Duncan’s friendship. It’s so pure and filled with love and the fact that she had to leave the Wardens and him behind I just--

•now I just really need more info on what Duncan and Maric’s friendship is like between this event and, well, Maric’s death/disappearance. How often did Duncan come and visit just to hang out and catch up? What were his updates on Fiona and little Alistair like? I NEED ANSWERS.

•because the beginning of Origins now literally breaks my heart, knowing that Duncan didn’t even set out to join the Wardens but becomes this great leader and he recruits Maric’s son and sees him grow up to be the age he was when he Joined but Maric never did get to see that and asdfghjkl;

•(just remembered that Alistair says that Duncan was like a father to him, so that’s great)

•don’t even get me started on the fact that the biggest thing Maric and Alistair have in common is that neither of them want to be king but they’re such good men that they’re willing to sacrifice everything they want for Ferelden and its people but Maric never knows that either (my poor, wasted heart)

•(oh, no, Kieran...in so many ways Alistair is forced to walk Maric’s path in ways he never wanted, that Fiona never wanted for him...how does she feel about the news of him having to take the throne? or of his death, should that be the case? This is the actual worst)

•PLUS there’s the Fiona/Katriel parallels, which both Maric and Fiona notice and must break both of them so utterly in different ways, ouch (I thought the Maric/Fiona thing would feel really forced, but it actually didn’t? It feels a little cringy to give Maric so many love interests but that’s Bioware for you)

•and wth happens to Fiona between now and Inquisition?? (I’ve heard she’s in Asunder so that’s something) I mean she gives birth to the heir but has to give him up, she works her way up to Head Enchanter and leads the mages to freaking rebellion. Someone give this badass her own graphic novel series, thxbye

•(speaking of I’m now properly upset that the writers killed her off in Champions of the Just, that is a GOOD CHARACTER YOU JUST THREW AWAY) (and now Alistair will never know who his mother was AUGH)

•tell me how Fiona was cured of the taint and that it can be replicated or I swear I’ll--

•As for the rest of the characters, they were honestly kind of forgettable until Maric has to go rescue them from their nightmares in the Fade. (I guess if you want to do some rapid character development, expose their deepest desires or greatest fears and the rest won’t matter so much.)

•Except for Utha bc she’s the best for sure. Although she DOES have a small part in Awakening (my heart), I feel like this messes with the timeline since that’s AFTER the Fifth Blight??? Which is TWENTY YEARS LATER??? And her design doesn’t match what happens at the end of the novel (which is fine bc gross). (I’ve suddenly realized that female dwarves are some of my favorite characters in this franchise, and the fact that I’m so surprised by that just shows how underdeveloped female dwarves are in high fantasy as a general rule.) UTHA DESERVED BETTER, YOU WON’T CHANGE MY MIND.

•So yeah, the story is that Maric goes into the Deep Roads with a ragtag gang of Grey Wardens to try and prevent a future blight, but instead their commander allies with a talking darkspawn and members of the team drop off one by one, Rogue One-style except for Maric, Duncan, and Fiona, who have to survive because story reasons. And also the Fade. And a dragon bc why the frick not.

I don’t think I’ve ever uploaded my plantfolk ocs onto here! which is a big shame because I’m absolutely in love with all these guys from back when I made them (circa 2018), so here’s a BIG collage of all my current plantfolk!

they all inhabit an old western town by the name of old rootwater. not really sure what I wanna do with this idea, all I know is designing plant people is super fun

all info about each of them below the cut!

sheriff clint - a rowdy boy, except not really bc HE'S A FRICKING SWEETHEART and is so soft, so gentle.. is baby.. nobody can take him seriously most of the time and it kinda makes him super duper mad. small and angry. but it's okay he's still a baby.

wildflower - wildflower is a milkweed farmer out in the country side, but still resides within the old rootwater province. she's a lil grouchy, but can warm up to whoever she feels like.. big ol dork, and care's about her milkweed a lot more than anyone she knows

tumbleweed russel - tumbleweed is the epitome of bad luck.. every time he walks into town, he leaves with them deserted behind him. only because everyone knows a petty omen is headed their way if he so much speaks in their direction! can't even cross the street without someones horsenettle running off. not a real threat to society, just an unfortunate dork that is just so happening to take advantage of his little quirk of being a middle school bully

desert rose - based off saloon dancers, this traveling gal is pursuing dreams of making it big elsewhere as a professional stage dancer. also the desert rose is an exotic variation of plants not really native to the old west as far as i know research wise.. therefore my idea is that she migrated from her home to old rootwater (old west based therefore american uhhh history history blahblahblah) and will then go from there! i support her

madam carnation - she's a very rambunctious character! eccentric, gaudy, yet highly friendly. she's of higher class than most of the town, nor is she a lifelong resident. she kinda swooped down from another country entirely! i wanna draw the rest of her family eeee she is Baby! she's a very rambunctious character! eccentric, gaudy, yet highly friendly. she's of higher class than most of the town, nor is she a lifelong resident. she kinda swooped down from another country entirely! i wanna draw the rest of her family eeee she is Baby!

stonecrop - stonecrop is old rootwater's blacksmith, usually repairing old weapons for the townsfolk as well as manufacturing tools, equipment, and accessories for em too! he may look all stern and grumpy, and to some extent he is, but he's very easy to warm up to once y'all get down to brass tacks. very helpful, smart, and soft..

plush - plush on the other hand is an eccentric horsenettle breeder! only breeding and caring for the top notch horsenettles in the old rootwater province. however, he's easily criticized in paper in public due to his chaotic dumbass energy, and he's very prone to rage induced breakdowns and rants and what have you. opposite to stonecrop - seems nice and friendly, actually a real grump!

desert hawk - based off of the creosote bush, a notorious plant known to grow up to 6ft tall and become an aggressive resource hog toward other plants. very territorial and bossy, just like her >:^) the only redeeming quality is the little yellow flowers they sprout in the spring! hence her daisy crown. desert hawk is also one of the only and most powerful bandit leaders surrounding the old rootwater province. she's highly aggressive and intelligent, always looking into new and creative ways of capturing her prey...

Man, I wish I could write stories with foreshadowing as brilliant as Steven Universe.

tl;dr I like foreshadowing. The payoff in Steven Universe was absolutely fucking INCREDIBLE and I really envy their masterful storycrafting, but I’m not sure how to foreshadow so subtly at all actually. Or drop Big Hints without Backstory and Directly Revealing It. I’m comparing my very lore-heavy stories with SU’s Background Presence of worldbuilding, considering how that impacts my ability to Ease It In There Naturally, adn focus on character developement.... Basically, I want to do more to tie all my stories together. Continuity is sacred to me, it always has been, but I want some mystery with it-- “So THAT’S what that was about” is a feeling I really delight in, and would like to learn how to build more artfully.

The times I’ve tried, intentionally, come off as either way too silly, or, let’s be real, a little heavy-handed. Imean, my stories certainly don’t lack Plot Twists and Shocking Reveals. But a lot of the moments in my stories come as complete surprises to the CHARACTERS. So, the way I narrate, the only way I’m COMFORTABLE narrating, it feels like it’s gotta be Surprise via Narration Too. (I don’t narrate through events. I narrate through the characters.)

Unforeseen and Unforesaken has: ~ Everyone noticing Dove wearing a cloak that’s kinda like Raven’s, with some other vague resemblances. ~ Raven side-eying Dove’s powers being unleashed by emotion. And Dove knowing her name. ~ Starfire commenting on Dove being From Azarath, Like Raven.

And that’s all just in, like, the first chapter. (I mean, I wanted to Kick the Mystery of Dove’s Heritage off strong.)

But the Entire Subject of “why is Dove like this, Who Is She” kinda gets... left at the door through the rest of the story, UNTIL the Actual Reveal of “she’s Trigon’s daughter! She’s Raven’s SISTER!”

In the rewrite, I’m going to explore the fallout of that revelation a LOT more intimately.

So I have the cooldown well placed.

But I’m struggling to give it more Warm Up beforehand.

(I’m thinking, the parts where Raven is able to sympathize with her, kind of illustrates that mystery a little? Draws a connection between them?)

But then again, maybe exploring who Dove is as an INDIVIDUAL is more important than her relationship to Raven, too...

Mmmmaybe in the Grand Tour scene, Starfire comments on Dove’s cloak looking like something Raven might wear, if it wasn’t so bright? (Because it’s Hella Canon, Starfire tries to connect with her and open her up so she can relax and find comfort in her new home.) But Dove kind of hesitantly dismisses it as being “just Azarath”, they like hoods and cloaks, she guesses?

So there’s another Parallel, but Dove actively avoids making it into a “””parallel”””... (Because, I mean, she hardcore doesn’t WANT anyone to know who her father is.)

There WAS the (definitely comic-book cheesy [but i love it that way]) chapter-end of DDD that went something like:

She finally felt like everything was going right again.

The only problem being: she was wrong.

To that effect, anyways. I like it~ (Especially since everything starts going wrong for her in that story.... ;; )

But, like. Foreshadowing in Soul Sickness (pre-revamp title: Mystery Sickness) would be really neat? If I could pull it off. Like, I know there’s a scene I need to add to the Very, Very Beginning where the team takes on Mumbo again, because they’re convinced his magic is the reason that Raven fell ill. (Which is never supposed to happen; she absolutely cannot get sick from pathogenic infections. That’s hardcore, blatantly-stated comic canon!)

Anyways, point is, I don’t know if that’s the kind of foreshadowing I’m looking for? Because it’s magical malady for sure. And it’s not until the end that they figure it out, and only because they’re investigating the phenomenon where Raven gets worse when Dove’s near for a few hours, and without explanation, seems to heal quite well when Dove vanishes into the night.

And then, after ruling out anything they can think of, they uncover the CAUSE of it being Alerina’s spells, not Mumbo’s.

I mean, it’s definitely a plot twist of sorts. Nobody expected Dove’s mother’s magic to have that kind of effect on her.

But I wish I knew how to foreshadow that more...

~ There’s the Mysterious Force that Raven feels when she first empathically connects to Dove, and subsequently feels again any time after. That’s in Dove’s debut, and the prequel to Soul Sickness...

~ I mean, the title itself is going to be “Soul” Sickness, which basically already reveals that it’s not a physical sickness.

I like that. Little tiny tidbits like Those.

But, like...

...I kinda want to foreshadow something brilliantly, the way they’ve done in Steven Universe. Even just one or two times, I’d really like to give someone that moment of, “!! Ohhey, that makes SENSE now!” Or “I can’t believe that was actually what THAT meant, 47 pages ago.”

And Srentha’s survival. That deserves foreshadowing. (During Nothing Good Lasts Forever, when Raven takes Dove to Azarath to reconcile what happened in her vision, and to get closure and finally be able to find peace with it: I want to add a blurb about “On the other side of the monolith, someone notices the flickers of energy, and thinks he hears voices, but after the stir of magics [of Raven's teleportation] was raised, trying to follow them led him to nothing but ash swirling in the fading wind.”

Something like that.

(There are like 5 years of stories between “Nothing” and Srentha’s debut, though. {lD I wonder how many readers will remember? Or even, care enough about The Mysterious Person Mentioned Once on Azarath. Let alone, theorize...)

Well, my stories certainly aren’t as cute, blatantly emotional, or quickly-formatted as Steven Universe. Not as immediately interest-catching. (There’s enough passion, heart, and soul in them. Definitely as much angst and comfort.)

But I can’t help wondering if anyone will care half so much as I do about my characters, and their stories, when I start using little tricks like that? I wonder if anyone else will be left wondering? Caring?

...Ultimately, I really don’t care. I’m going to try my best, and write my stories anyways. Probably never publish them, until I get rich enough to self-publish. Too much else in my life for that.

But it would be nice.

Point is, it would be a really cool trick of story-crafting to learn how to use, wouldn’t it?

The breadcrumb trails and build-up and Mystery Developements was my favorite part of Steven Universe. That build-up, theorizing, and finally REVELATION catapulted it to tie with Teen Titans for me. The incredible PAYOFF. I know what THEY did. I just... don’t, really really DON’T, know how to use such brilliant, subtle gestures to foreshadow and hint at my own stories....

...but, coming to think of it, another huge gap (besides Storytelling Format) exists between mine and theirs: Steven Universe focuses on a magical family viewing mundane emotional humanity through the lens of fantasy. Their lore-dropping is few and far between, because that’s not the focus.

Oh, my stories very much ARE focused on the lore. You can’t really be subtle about The Actual Point And Theme And Setting And Entirely-Relevant-to-Character-Developement Lore. At least not when it’s Literally The Cause, Journey, Hinderance, Help, and Solution in my characters’ lives.

I think I’ve gotten quite good at working the lore into the natural flow of the story~ Perhaps not as lengthily paced, but I like to think it’s as In-World-Naturally as SU typically managed. Casual fact-drops. Settings. Background info that’s not the main focus of the scene. Integrating the lore-drop in with the innate mindset, history, and relationships of the characters.

I mean, frick guys, if it wasn’t for Azarath and Trigon and Azar’s Crystals and the Fauni separation and Dove having great power inside her, and Raven having mastered such power, and mindscapes manifested, and metahuman shennigans... I wouldn’t have any stories to write, guys. These things are SO integral and important to my stories! (Mundane drama human stuff? It’s cute in SU, but I, personally, do not enjoy dedicating hours to capturing that in a story. I don’t, personally, want to explore people and leave out the Wild Fun Mind-Bending and Stimulating Soulful Magic Stuff. The stuff I’m passionate about exploring! The stuff that’s not just rewarding in the end, but ALSO fun and exciting to GET through, UNTIL the personal developement is proven!)

The perspective of my stories is an unwilling mage going through things both fantastical and mundane to learn about herself, learn about the world, and most importantly, learn to have a PLACE in the world. Learning to accept her heritage. Learning to accept her limits with magic her mother treasured, so she treasured too. Learning how to control her own mind and heart and navigating a new reality, and a new morality, amidst it all.

The person is absolutely a Top Tier Important element in my storytelling. Dove’s growth and developement is the reason I love her as my protagonist. But I can’t write her story without the magic stuff.

My stories are narrated with far more focus on the wild stuff than SU’s crew chose for their story.

But I like my humans meta and their problems magical honestly, I think it’s just a lot more fun. ;P (Definitely written with equal doses of Heart. But magic is a lot more insistent in Dove’s life, and a lot less of The Internal Struggle, really... mostly just a side-effect.)

...gosh, this got rambly.

But I guess my point is, because it’ll be fun to figure out how to Artfully Foreshadow Shit, I’m definitely going to try.
