I'm curious about people's opinions on this.

I recently saw some complaints about people writing het omegaverse and how it should only be for queer relationships and there seemed to be some drama over it and claims that het ships are ruining it. And because I tend to enjoy drama more than I should I read a long twitter thread. Now, the omegaverse isn't my cup of tea. All I really know about it is, wolves, Mpreg, dominance and submission. But it is very popular. Nearly all of my fandoms and ships will have a few omegaverse fics on every one of their AO3 pages. (Nearly all of them are M/M ships)

So I guess, what are the issues of people writing het omegaverse? Or should this be another case of Don't like Don't read and let people have their fun? Or does it just not really work for het ships?

Yes, het will totally ruin the weird dog dicks AU. Absolutely.

There are no ~issues~. People should write whatever the fuck they want. But if you want to explore whether it "works", you have to delve into what makes omegaverse tick actually, which is more than just wolves+mpreg.

One common use of the trope is to make someone 100000% the top 5eva. This is the type people often mock or complain about in m/m, and it works much the same in f/m. This is what showed up in that stupid omegaverse lawsuit situation: indie het erotica/romance novelists are now using this as a way to structure their fsub rapey ultra alpha hero stuff, and one of them decided she was the original and no one should steal her idea. (Soooo original.)

The Alphaest Alpha to Ever Alpha is a fantasy, not realism, no matter how many dicks the ship has, so it's not any stranger to go "No, he's really, really on top!" about the dude in het than about one of the dudes in m/m.

If this trope is hot to you, it's hot. If it isn't, it's not any stupider with het than with slash.

But that's not the only thing omegaverse gets used for. It's also used for the diametric opposite: debunking the idea of someone naturally being super, duper default on top. This kind of fic often does something with betas and actually engages with the idea of a three-biological-sex system (instead of betas being how you get rid of the characters you don't ship). It will have alpha/alpha relationships or omegas topping or omega-->beta trans characters or all manner of other gender/sex exploration.

I don't read a ton of het in fandom, but I do read m/m/f, and I've read fics where each chapter is a different scenario where the three are some other omegaverse combo. This is where you'll often see female alphas and male omegas and various takes on exactly what that would look like. There's no reason het couldn't also be used to explore sex and gender stuff.

And, really, some people just find knotting hot. A story being het won't change that.

Valentino is theoretically capable of redemption.

I'm not saying that Valentino is presently deserving of redemption. He isn't, but neither is anyone else in Hell until they become deserving of it. This post is not a defense of Valentino, it is a hypothetical purgatorial roadmap. Asking "Can Valentino be redeemed?" is like asking "Could a civilization invent a spaceship before inventing a submarine?" The answer is: "If some real weird stuff happened, maybe?"

With my recent thinking about the mechanics of Redemption, I think that Valentino is theoretically capable of redemption, though it would require a thermonuclear Scrooging.

As i have previously described, Valentino is a moth with burned eyes because he wants to be loved, but instead of giving true love to receive true love in return, he abuses people to force fake love out of them, and this is the foundational root of all his sins.

His soul is a moth burning and crushing itself upon a hot lamp of false love (abuse) when he needs to be following the gentle moonlight of true love.

He needs to unlearn abuse and learn of true, healthy love, but he will not do that on his own.

In order for Valentino to achieve redemption, the following have to occur:

1: He needs to lose power. He doesn't need to lose a bit of power, he needs to lose all of it. He needs to be reduced to a useless, helpless, repulsive smear. He needs to be turned into an ugly peeling flake of wallpaper. He needs to be reduced to such a state that he cannot move on his own, he cannot speak for himself, he cannot defend himself from a hungry garden snail, but can only stew in dreadful impotence as he witnesses how every single being he has ever interacted with celebrates his apparent death and gleefully ridicules every smallest achievement of his existence.

2: He needs to realize that every single part of step 1 is entirely his own fault. He needs to realize that the situation he is now in is completely justified, and that he is an awful, wretched thing.

3: He needs to learn about true love. Somebody with nothing to gain needs to find him in this condition, and they need to show him the pity he now knows he doesn't deserve. He needs to watch loving people in a healthy relationship interact while he sits in their home as little more than a houseplant. He needs to watch people with no power, no slaves, no secrets, no money, no looks, and no skills of any significance, as they give the only thing that they do have to each other and to him. True, healthy, unconditional Love.

4: He needs to regain enough power for him to finally act on what he has learned in a meaningful way.

Basically he has to be traumatically regressed into a caterpillar, rescued from a hungry rat by a street urchin, and kept in a shoebox as he learns about True Love until he is changed enough to metamorphize into a butterfly angel to save them from a rapey slumlord.

Emily literally does not have her own plotline this episode, she just gets absorbed into the Spoby drama. Don’t get me wrong, there’s stuff I love here, like Emily’s comically bad “Spencer is unable to come to the phone right now”

But I am pretty meh on Emily not getting her own stuff to do, and the way the disparity between f/f and f/m relationships on the show feels starker in S2

It’s good/convenient that Caleb is a newcomer to Rosewood, so that when he hacks these videos of a bunch of weirdos hanging out in Ali’s room, it’s not like he has any prior beef or knowledge that would skew his efforts

The girls all think Holden is gay because he’s never tried to kiss Aria. Aria, the one true test for any boy’s heterosexuality apparently.

We get another glimpse of Halloween 2008 when the girls find the threatening notes A sent Ali, which is a nice connection that episode. Ali really was experiencing it all that night huh.

Toby gets injured via the wobbliest scaffolding sabotage. A really does not want Spoby to date, is extra invested in it, and I’m unclear why. 

I mean, A threatened Ezria with reveals before but A saved Ezria via framing Noel and A has never put Ezra’s life in danger.

I wonder if it’s because Toby seems like the SO most likely to be told about A, given that he was investigating Ali’s murder with Spencer back in S1.

Most likely until Spencer’s protective instincts are kicked into overdrive here.

As kicked puppy as Toby is this episode, I obviously care more about the Spemily angle here, where Emily agrees immediately even though she knows how deranged Spencer can get and does ultimately go through with the plan.

And the genre gender inversion of sorts, where Spencer, Emily, and Jenna are the actors upon Toby, while he is the acted upon, the one that is protected or hurt or violated

Caleb goes to Spencer and Emily to offer his hacking services. They really are the investigative ringleaders this season, and Caleb once more proves himself to be the most integrated SO

Spencer discloses to Caleb that Jenna is trying to frame them, Garrett is helping her, and that Ian’s confession likely isn’t the full story. 

Not a bad set of facts, but it does overstate their certainty on the Jenna question, which will lead Caleb to focus on her

sorry I tried to reign it in a bit but this is long af lol

When I started shipping it if I did: august 2021, shortly after the lb6 epilogue originally released. I actually hadn’t read the chapter at the time but I read the summaries and thought the ship was probably cute but not particularly deep (fgo master x literally any servant is usually easy mode shipping after all), but when I actually read the chapter I went completely insane about them, and have been insane about them for over 2 years now.

My thoughts: I really like the way Ritsuka starts as a pretty standard and kinda bland almost self-inserty protagonist in part 1 but then in part 2 they very clearly have something wrong with them and their head is extremely Not Okay, and I like the idea that Oberon (and Castoria as a fellow fairy eyes-haver) is one of the only ones that can fully see that. Everyone knows Oberons a liar, but hardly anyone knows Ritsuka has been lying for a while now (about a lot of things, but particularly about being Normal and Okay). The garden of lost will part in lb6 is so, so good.

But I also like how it can also be very unserious because while I like a lot of the angst stuff I also like (/draw)the dumb shit where Ritsuka is just no.1 Oberon simp who does anything he asks because he’s so pretty.

What makes me happy about them: Oberon is extremely miserable and I like to think Ritsuka does make him happy even if he can’t show it, especially since when he’s in Chaldea he’s allowed to just…be? (As opposed to in lb6) I wouldn’t call him a tsundere because the dynamic isn’t quite that but I like how far he has to go out of his way to help Ritsuka in as roundabout way as possible while trying his best to look like he isn’t (the summer event is exactly this). ALSO they are very very cute Ritsuka is like a fluffy dog like a japanese spitz or something and Oberon is a Siamese cat, this is a 10/10 dynamic.

What makes me sad about them: depending on the interpretation of summoning Oberon is either stuck in the abyss forever while a copy of him with the same memories is in Chaldea, or he is saved from the abyss only to have to eventually return there at some point and tbh I don’t know which is worse. also the material book casually noting Oberon would come to ‘accompany’ Ritsuka if they called for him while they were dying, that hurts so good 🥲

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: i have to admit here I don’t really read fanfic but I do read/collect doujins. I don’t like the rapey stuff although tbh it’s way more common with obeguda (one reason why I’m not into it for the most part). I don’t like either of them being sadistic and cruel to eachother for no reason. mostly I don’t really like minibe being lewded, he’s obviously the same character and all but he looks like a weird baby so it can get uncomf visually. I don’t care if people are into that but I can not count the number of times I’ve been jumpscared by it in a pixiv log lol.

things I look for in fanfic: I’m a big dumb idiot masochist and keep buying doujins that look like they will make me cry and then I’m all surprised pikachu face (crying version) after I read them. But I also like dumb gag stuff…and im a sucker for the AUs where they just live together and hang out and be cute and goof off with Castoria, I don’t care that it’s ‘boring’, every time I see it I react like it’s the first time.

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: for Ritsuka I’d say Saito Hajime, while I don’t bother to seek it out I do look respectfully at hajiguda if it appears on my feed. For Oberon I don’t ship with anybody else, but the closest thing is that I do really like the tragedy that is him and Blanca (especially since it’s typically one-sided) Blanca is canonically in love with him but according to the material xiii book, she’s (potentially) a cursed princess who isn’t actually a moth, which fascinates me. I also like the theory that she was Titania all along.

My happily ever after for them: Oberon gets granted incarnation as a human by the grail after Everything is Fixed and they live together and also Castoria is there I’m a simple man I’m sappy I eat doujins like this up

Who is the big spoon/little spoon: oberon isn’t a spoon he’s a cat, when he has decided on his sleeping position ritsuka isn’t allowed to move ever

What is their favorite non-sexual activity: I like when they hang out in the welsh forest in the simulator with all the bug fairies. They’re with Castoria a lot too. Oberon is allegedly a good dancer, and whether he actually enjoys it or not, I like to think he does when he does it with them. Maybe he teaches them. 🥹

Saw someone praising the little gems of Vash-whump in Ao3′s Trigun Stampede section, while complaining that they have to sift through a lot of the stuff they aren’t into to get there.  I relate.   Didn’t reblog / reply to them specifically because I thought that I would be seen as weird.  It’s just, I’ve realized that I have very specific tastes* in this fandom.  I have officially written my first Stampede-based fic:  A story about Rem being a good mom.  I have A SHITTON of old Trigun fic from my fandom years ago that I am thinking of going over, editing where necessary and posting.  Most of them aren’t the kind of “usual fandom-pleasers,” either, but kind of specific things.  Like, there’s this one I wrote about an OC who sees Vash as a hero and sets out to live by Vash’s ideals only to find out that he can’t... I wrote that for an erstwhile friend.  Was NOT a “Reader x” or a self-insert, was just a random guy.  I have...ghost stories, including an alternate manga-ending.  I have a hard horror involving Midvalley doing something truly horrific with his murder-music.  One of my early ‘98 anime specific stories involved “Knives wins, but ends up killing Vash in the process, regrets it, decides to travel across the lonely planet to bury him next to his friends.”   I wonder which of my old fics the new fandom would like to see...  In any case.... as I’ve said before... sometimes when a ship is really popular in a fandom, I’ll tune it out like background-noise.  I even do this with ships I like.  I mean... in my other fandoms, I’ve written a bit of catradora and zelink, but most of the time I’m like “boring,” and pass up others’ fics because they’re dominating.  And then with, well, I’ve never vibed with vashwood.  I’ve always seen them as a brotp, not an otp.  Plantcest is too...rapey...for me (and when people transform it to make it consensual, it weirds me out. -vriska is. amazing. she is THE CHARACTER EVER. i enjoy her a lot but when it comes to morality, she's... i dont know what to make of her. like, from all the fandom drama i heard secondhand, she was made to be this mass murderer. like yeah, she is responsible to a lot of fuckups in plot, she is ableist to tavros and used aradia's boyfriend sollux to kill her, and sabotaged jade's attempt to get into the game but i think at her core, she's just a 13 year old bully. if she was in a normal human environment, raised by an ordinary family, at worst, she'd be the kind of girls who spread mean rumors of the outcast kids at school. still bad but, garden variety shittiness that can be fixed with age and growth. its the condition she's in that drove her into such terribleness. alternia let kids kill and maim each other, eliminate people who defy the law and customs. its a tyrannical empire and of course the kids produced in that kind of environment are vicious to each other. its not wrong the other kids dont want nothing to do with her and seeing her gets her shit kicked by aradia was cathartic but. man, i still feel very sympathetic to her.

-and kanaya! its so interesting how space aspects players are all very aesthetic-minded. they always have the cool pretty stuff. also she had a crush on rose isnt she? the way she admired her gamefaqs playthrough guide reminds of that tumblr fairytale where cinderella reads aurora's diary and fell in love. haha! right after i have that suspicions, i check tumblr to see if theyre a popular ship and apparently theyre also canon? cool. its so nice to be proven right. theyre both unhinged weird girls but in a very subdued way. also, i think karkat have been underestimating how much she helped on cooling down the group's animosities. not just between tavros and vriska, but eridan and feferi too, to an extent.

-speaking of feferi, ugh, i feel so bad for her. i cant believe someone as positive as her could be corrupted by the horrorterrors. one moment, she's the only one preventing a trollnazi and a doomsday lusus from destroying the shit out of everything, and suddenly shes twisting squibbles into cthulhu. I don't completely hate Morgan for what she's done, and I can't chock up her wish to just "wanting a kingdom." She wanted a place to live, she did not want to see this beautiful place die, even if she hated everyone living there, she could not accept that her world would be destroyed and so fought against destiny to keep Fairy Britain alive. I still think some of her actions were selfish, and especially with PHH Morgan she clearly could not accept that she wasn't fit to be queen.

Barghest is introduced brutalizing a bunch of human slaves attempting to escape, even turning one of them into one of her hellhounds for speaking out of turn. Later she carries out Morgan's order to burn down the Autumn Woods. This all carries into her philosophy that "the weak serve the strong," only later we see her ruling Manchester where this philosophy is actually more "the strong protect the weak," but now this makes her look like a huge hypocrite. So the weak are to be protected if it's your sickly human lover or the one (conveniently not very insectoid) Welsh pixie but any randos not under your care you will happily cut down? Yeah I wasn't exactly shedding tears when she started going Beast Mode.

Baobhan is introduced as a cruel and selfish fairy who happily tortures and kills random people. She is madly in love with Beryl Gut because...he gives her new exciting ways to torture and kill people, basically. But THEN we learn she was actually a nice fairy only PRETENDING to enjoy torturing people! Morgan just told her she had to be mean to survive and she misunderstood this, you see! (She doesn't act like a nice fairy who plays at being mean, she acts like a mean fairy who is just very easily duped and only feels bad when things start affecting her personally)

I guess I feel less angry over Melusine because...she at least knew what she's doing is wrong? She doesn't try to excuse or justify herself and her rationale feels a lot more believable to me (she just wanted to win the approval of the one fairy who was kind to her, even though she knows it'll never happen she keeps hoping and wishing for it). Her actions felt *consistent* at least, like there is never a sudden swerve to where we have to forget a bunch of stuff she's done before, and that made her feel more sympathetic.

Then you get into NPCs like Boggart and Aurora where I can't really tell if you're meant to feel bad for them. Boggart came off extremely creepy to Mash especially where he tried to force himself on her, only stopping when she pushed him out the window. So the narrative treatment of him from then onward is kind of weird cause now suddenly he learned boundaries? And towards the end he's said to be charismatic and good with women even though at the beginning he's called heartbroken and only takes human slaves as wives because they can't say no to him? Idk his whole character is *weird* I couldn't mourn over his death.

I think it's hard, because if Nasu was trying for a narrative of complex morality, where ultimately the fairies didn't necessarily deserve their fate, but could never avoid it in the end, it's very back-and-forth in showing that through the story. And added to this is Fate fans' own limited reading comprehension further muddying the waters. The ultimate Original Sin of the first six fairies is that they simply were lazy one day. Should we fault them for this? If so, why should we just excuse the actions of a few characters who were allowed greater focus in the story?

(I could go into a big rant about Beryl and how he is so insultingly one-dimensional. I never really expected him to be good or woobified but man he is like Shinji but with all the worst qualities of Kirei shoved in, it's so painfully clear Nasu had no love for him as a character and just reduced him to "rapey hentai villain" that Guda is meant to beat up and kill. I'd rather not though).

(Also Pepe, I'm SO bitter about Pepe, his arc in Lostbelt 4 was an obvious parallel to Arjuna Alter, a whole chapter about how toxic it is to try and erase anything deemed "evil" from the world because all humans have some level of evil, and to erase that is to erase one's own humanity, and to be able to forgive oneself and accept yourself rather than constantly condemning and erasing. That was all thrown out the window with his death, where he goes on for whole paragraphs insisting this was his karma, and then Castoria herself looks at us and says "I don't feel bad for him, I saw all the evil that he did so I think he was a bad person," (basically) and just okay, wow, we've really thrown his whole character arc out the window because we didn't need him in the plot anymore. Cool! Also not very happy at the occasional jokes of him looking like a Nightcall because of his goofy exaggerated expressions)

I saw your reblog on the Morgan post, and just wanted to say you described my thoughts towards her better than I was able to. ‘Let off the hook’ for a lot of things honestly feels like it applies to a lot of lostbelt 6 characters, but I can definitely agree it’s worst with Morgan.

Okay I wrote and erased and rewrote an answer to this ask like five times now I want to be brief and not repeat the things I've been saying already now but I guess the basic points of this are:

Lostbelt 6 was originally going to be a more classic "good vs. evil" story, but when Nasu rewrote it he wanted to make his characters more morally complex. And I think that came with some complications, doubly so where some characters are allowed more focus within the narrative and others are more bit part characters.

What really makes it especially glaring to me is this: you, the player, are actively encouraged to call out Oberon on his bullshit. You are even rewarded for doing so, with an added cutscene that gives you further insight into his motivations. This would automatically make a lot of characters who've similarly done wrong feel kind of unbalanced for how you're just supposed to ignore or excuse their actions in favor of sympathizing with them. It's more frustrating to have to choose between seeing other characters as either irredeemable scum or blameless woobies when there is a character right there, who is both sympathetic and deeply, deeply culpable for multiple atrocities.

Do you ever notice your taste in media changing or growing? I ask because I'm going over my list of anime I got from my anime club in highschool which I've been trying to get through. On the list I've underlined shows that on the first viewing in the club I thought were stand out. Now 6ish years later with other shows under my belt some of them ended up not being what I thought they would be. like I remember thinking Accel World was the shit, like something really cool and interesting and new but when I watched it just last year I realized that it was basically just SAO, like it had the same author and everything. The only real difference was that it was more about "gaming" instead using "gaming" as narrative shorthand for typical fantasy stories where our gaming god protag wins all the games and get's all the girls. Except here he's a small fat dude

Then there was this show, Bodacious Space Pirates

I saw the first episode of that and thought it would be a fun romp as outrageous as it's name but that just did not end up being the case.

The one thing that did live up to expectations was Kodocha

And that was a very bittersweet victory because they never actually finished dubbing this show.

Anyways I got off track, I just don't know if my taste actually changed or if watching so many anitubers make the same critiques about certain tropes used in shows. Stuff like protags getting harems or unearned power ups. Did I not notice that stuff before on purpose or am I over focusing on those now because popular anitubers made that seem like the smart thing to do.

Do I think Accel World is bad because I think SAO is bad like everyone else or do I think it's bad for my own reasons???

See, that's part of the reason why when it comes to negative opinions on stuff I really enjoy I honestly just tune out and will even go as far as to double down because I 'm not gonna let anybody try and "open my eyes to" or "correct" me on the shit I like. Maybe your tastes just naturally change over time, maybe there's been some coercion or maybe it's the fact that after experiencing more anime in your life things that once seemed like "never done before"s no longer feel as special when you have other examples of it. I would say the list is just growing and now you have a lot of things to compare. Tropes can be tropey but if done well I never really saw anything wrong with them. So long as you are enjoying it.

There's nothing to enjoy about SAO tho.

I mean, there is but then they go and kill it off and/or make it rapey and then no one's having a good time. Accel World could probably be something that's better executed. I can't really say for sure because I've been wondering about it for a bit but never actually saw it myself.

i find a little disgusting about how tatiana as a character is viewed as "empowering" and "bad ass" in the fandom when what she did to tommy was straight up abuse and the chocking scene has rapey vibes all over it. and somehow it gets viewed as hot or as if she was sexually empowering and some weird stuff. we know tommy uses his body for business all the time. he is a whore. we know this. but the chocking scene is so uncomfortable because tommy was straight up having a mental breakdown and she still went ahead and had majority of the control in the sex scene but there was not actual consent. he was imagining grace all along. he was intoxicated and recently recovering from a head injury. but she gets turned on from pain apparently, one that wasn't reciprocated. because that scene wasn’t consensual. her whole character gives me red flags. this fandom goes off with the whole "she understood him" but she barely ever did. everyone with a little bit sense of perception could get what tommy wanted and how freedom and killing were touchy subjects to him. her interactions with him were bare minimum but the narrative makes you believe she had some sort of superior knowledge to who he is as a person. there was nothing empowering about her, her character is what steven knight decided was a powerful female character but it feels more like it comes from his own sexual fantasies. i was so so glad when she left and never brought up again because she made me uncomfortable. the actress was great but the dialogue felt forced as well, like they were trying too hard to make her deep and bad ass or a female version of tommy but it just didn’t work. it felt over the top, and this is a problem i have most of the time. that they need to make female characters too much like their male characters to claim it.

Yeah, the labeling of Tatiana as badass and empowering for what she did to Tommy has aways deeply bothered me, not only because of Tommy but because of the place where that behavior was coming from for Tatiana herself. It wasn't empowering her at all to do these things; it was a reaction to the situation she'd been groomed into by her family. A lot of people who have been abused react by hurting others, and this is what I see going on with Tatiana and Tommy in s3.

The actually empowering thing she did was to work *with* Tommy to escape her family by helping him steal their jewels.

I understand why you'd see what happened between Tatiana and Tommy as abuse. It was certainly dubiously consensual, in the parlance of fandom. I think the khlysty scene was pretty complex from Tatiana's perspective, because I got the impression she legitimately did it because she thought it would help him -- there was the implication that she knew about khlysty because she experienced it herself, after having lost someone she loved in the war. So again, it's a trauma reaction to me, to think this thing is something that would help him. At the same time, it's not only that, clearly. It's also one of her games, and those games are in part about power and risk. That's the interesting thing about Tatiana to me -- these things are not so easily separated.

But the circumstances in which she does this are not one of informed consent -- Tommy's incredibly drunk and had started to visibly break down about Grace's death for the first (and only) time we saw that season. He was very vulnerable there and Tatiana did this very dangerous thing without really giving him a chance to agree to it, if he was even capable of making that choice at the time. And at least part of her motivation had to be to try to have him in debt to her and under her control because that's what was expected of her by her family, and also she may think it will help her get free of them. This is the only form of power she really has.

If she gets turned on by pain -- and I think this is probably a valid interpretation though it's just that, an interpretation -- I think it's less the inflicting of pain on someone than a mutual sharing of pain, a sort of twisted empathy. She sees him as a mirror to herself. She seemed to identify with his pain in that scene, and in the scene where she shows up in his marriage bed and puts on Grace's perfume. At the same time, it is about transgressing boundaries, very much so -- she sees this as freedom, but she doesn't take into account whether Tommy wants to go along on that ride, whether this will hurt him, and whether this is freedom to him as well. She's both earnest about it and a little mocking, in turn. I think she heavily identified with Tommy and thought she was mentoring him in a way -- what she says that night in Arrow House, about how she will show him how to use power, basically.

But what she doesn't understand is that she and Tommy don't have the same background with power at all. She grew up literal royalty -- which doesn't protect her from abuse and exploitation from her family, but is absolutely a level of power immensely higher than that Tommy grew up with, and still even as a rich as he was in s3, didn't possess. She and her family have coerced him into working with them under threat of hanging of his family, in order to restore them to this inherited power over an entire country. She may have little choice in the matter, but neither does he. It's complex, from a power standpoint, and I think those takes about girl power and badassery ignore all of this.

I don't agree the narrative is trying to make you think she has some kind of superior insight into Tommy as a character; if that were the case, he wouldn't have shot down her line about how she helped him through the grief over his wife. I do think that she was there to be a narrative parallel to him though. She's being exploited by her family, he's being exploited by Churchill (and her family), they end up forming an alliance in an attempt to subvert these powers.

I don't disagree that her character filled some stereotypes of cishet male sexual fantasies, at the same time I think she was more complex than this and the narrative had some compassion for her situation. I understand why you feel the way you do about her as a character but I don't share that opinion of her or of the other female characters on the show.

“Robert, you’ve been giving up on words for too long! You been leaning on your good looks & athletic skills. And your great scent. Cause you smell wonderful!”

“That’s true!” I said 

And the cartoon book page keeper looked at me and said,

“I’m going to take you to a land where you are going to find a part of you you’ve never known you had before. And that’s mainly because you didn’t know the word existed.”

And to my right

what is your opinion about grrm as a writer? frankly i am tired of the ppl who act as if he is a can do no wrong, bona fide male "feminist" when he seems to put alot of his personal fantasies on the female characters and his sexual hang ups on the male characters. also, at which point does it stop being medieval realism and it just becomes him liking to write rapey/pedo shit?

Obviously I'm a huge fan but I agree that he's not above reproach. My take on the whole creepy underage child abuse shit is that he takes it to an extreme that one would imagine no one could excuse, but they find a way to excuse it anyway, which is shocking and weird and I don't get it. But with that said, although I defo give him credit for writing really good, varied, and complex characters in a way that legit almost every writer doesn't do, there are definitely some tone-deaf elements of race, sex, and gender stuff that deserve to be discussed, and some stans are weirdly reluctant to acknowledge that content that is at least partially 25+ years old at this point maybe hasn't aged super well.

I will continue to say that WHY IS GAR SO SHAFTED IN THIS SHOW. WHY??? Why does my boy have NO SCREEN TIME but we get two scenes of Conner and Blackfire in sexual situations. I still think she gonna be evil (I mean, she is in the comics) and especially because of the music being weirdly sinister during their sex scene. There’s a weird power dynamic that I feel a lot of people are ignoring, Conner is not…as old as her. At least in us as the context of us as the viewer. We get them saying he’s mentally 2 and then nothing else, very little of him maturing. Just suddenly he’s cussing. Like??? Show us. I would be less opposed to this relationship if Conner was canonically said to be an age. I’m thinking of him like comics, mid teens. This feels like it has Geoff Johns written all over it (just like the rapey undertones of Wonder Woman 1984)

Anyway,,, TIM FINALLY! More screen time for him too!! I was lowkey really sad to see how little screen time he had for the current run of the season we have seen. I hope he’s in more of the latter half of this season.

like basically every stephen king book goes like this: very fucking good, except for that one scene that’s just the worst fucking thing and makes you feel personally attacked for being forced to read it, and it makes you hesitate when you want to recommend it to someone else because then you know they’re going to read That Scene and that is not a bonding experience you want to have with anyone.

also flop endings. he’s the king of shitty endings. his short stories tend to end right when they’re supposed to though, and they have the addend bonus of usually being too short to have a That Scene.
