just had a middle aged coworker half-jog up to my desk and she was like. “do you have a second” and i was gonna be like oh brother what IT thing went wrong this time 😑 but i said yeah sure and she said “i just realized i accidentally used the wrong pronouns for you yesterday and i had to come apologize right away. dont be afraid to correct me if it happens again!” and im so touched…. like she said she realized while she was driving and couldnt relax until she made sure i knew it wasnt intentional. like idk i just think that’s really sweet of her like it’s just plain old nice to know she respects my pronouns and values my opinion enough to want to set the record straight.

18-years-old
"There is no way I'm ever going on that thing. You can't make me."
"Come on, you promised that if I scored better than you at darts you would ride the Riptide with me! Gonna go back on your word now, Sheena?"
"Stop smirking at me, Zelos! You clearly cheated! That game was rigged!"
"All carnival games are rigged. That's common knowledge."
"I don't care. You still cheated!"
"Cheated how? You were watching me the whole time!"
Colette giggled, watching her two friends have a go at each other as they inched closer to each other with each word they spoke. All three of them were leaning against the cold metal railing, though Colette was careful to keep a safe distance from Zelos and Sheena. When they were engrossed in arguing with each other, there was a safe zone, and a not-safe zone where one was liable to get smacked by a wildly gesturing arm or two.
Surrounding them were various stalls staffed by people who were enthusiastically calling out to potential customers, hoping to receive more coupons in the final hour before the carnival closed. There were pop-up game stalls featuring the classics like ring toss and soccer, food stands selling carnival staples like candy floss and popcorn, and even thrill rides like the aforementioned Riptide, a roller coaster that paled in comparison to USS' coasters but certainly had the most twists and turns of anything offered at the carnival. Adorning everything was bright neon lights and colourful decorations, and noise came from every angle, lending to a cheery atmosphere that could get a tad overwhelming at times.
Despite the late hour of 9 pm, there was still quite a crowd - mostly consisting of young adults like them, the majority of families having gone home for the night. She had bumped into quite a few classmates in the past three hours, who had come here with the same idea of having a fun night out with friends after the end of A-levels. A lot of pictures had been taken, until her cheeks hurt a bit from smiling so much, but it had been great fun.
She, Lloyd, Zelos and Sheena had managed to visit almost every booth, using up all of the coupons that they were sharing amongst each other. But even with their combined efforts, they had only managed to win one prize: the adorable Siberian Husky plush she was currently hugging. Though they'd certainly snacked on their share of popcorn, sharing one large carton between the four of them until their fingers were sticky with kernels.
"Colette, back me up!" Sheena begged, turning to face Colette. Despite the biting words that were leaving her mouth, her true emotions were betrayed by the smile playing at the corner of her lips. Sheena's hair was tied up into her trademark high ponytail, the ends of her hair swaying slightly in the weak wind.
"What, me?" Colette exclaimed, rather surprised she was being pulled into the conversation. Zelos and Sheena tended to retreat into their own world whenever they got into this state, forgetting anyone else existed.
"Uh, well..." Colette muttered, sheepishly smiling. "Sorry to disappoint, Sheena, but I have to give this one to Zelos."
"See? Even Colette agrees!" Zelos placed their elbow on the railing, leaning closer to Sheena, smirking.
Sheena didn't even spare Zelos a look, just shoved their face away with a hand, ignoring Zelos' sputters of protest. "How could you, Colette? How could you side with the idiot?" Sheena cried in mock betrayal.
"Well, I and Lloyd were both there, and we both saw Zelos win fair and square. And a deal's a deal," Colette replied, shrugging. Zelos did seem more insistent than usual, but she couldn't discern why.
"Just think of it as a date!" Zelos waved a nonchalant arm in the air, that smirk never fading as they took hold of Sheena's arm.
"Screaming in abject terror is not my idea of a date," Sheena hissed through gritted teeth, though she didn't free herself from Zelos' hold. "Besides, we're supposed to ride the Ferris wheel together once Lloyd comes back!"
"Eh, we won't make it before the carnival closes if we catch the Ferris wheel. Don't worry, I'll treat you to ice cream afterwards! And if that isn't enough to appease you, surely some Ajisen will." Zelos turned to Colette and winked, leaving Colette utterly confused. Was there an underlying meaning to all of this she was supposed to be catching?
"If you drag me on that damn thing, Zelos Wilder, I swear I will never forgive - GET YOUR HANDS OFF ME! STOP!" Sheena shrieked as Zelos began to drag her by brute force towards the snaking queue of the Riptide. Colette gaped, watching Sheena struggle wildly, digging her feet into the ground and hurling curses that got steadily fouler at Zelos, who didn't seem to be affected at all.
"I'm back with the drinks!" Lloyd's happy voice came from behind her as he walked up to her, holding two cups with steam venting from their tops, hair adorably ruffled from the day's hectic events, woefully unaware of everything that had occurred in the time he was gone. "Wait, what's... Happening...?" he asked, only now spotting the gradually diminishing silhouettes of Zelos and Sheena.
"I... Uh, Zelos and Sheena are going to ride the Riptide," Colette said, explaining the situation as succinctly as she could. How else could she word it, anyway? There was no explaining the antics of those two.
"Alright." Lloyd shrugged, accepted her explanation and passing one cup over to her. She pushed the plushy into the crook of her elbow, freeing up a hand to accept the cup and still managing to almost drop it. She closed her fingers around the plastic cup, soaking in the warmth it emanated.
"It's hot chocolate," Lloyd explained between gulps as he practically downed the whole cup in half a minute. "They're out of hot milo. Sorry."
"It's alright. Any hot drink would have done." Colette finally took a sip, feeling the sting from the heat and sticking out her tongue.
"Should we wait for them to come back or go queue for the Ferris wheel?"
Colette sighed. "We should just go. The queue for the Riptide is really long... They know to meet up back at the MRT at 10."
The original plan was to take a group photo at the peak of the revolution of the Ferris wheel, but that didn't look like it was going to happen now.
So it would just be her and Lloyd riding the Ferris wheel. An activity that could be seen as romantic. The pamphlet for the carnival had even advertised it as a ride of love. When they'd walked past it just now, she'd seen that the Ferris wheel was decked out with a ton of wire hearts that lit up in multiple colours.
It was just ten minutes. It would be over in the blink of an eye! Totally!
"Then, let's go," Lloyd said, grabbing her hand and giving her a minute heart attack, causing her bravado to crumble into dust.
Nope. There was no way this could end well.
The two of them joined the short queue for the Ferris wheel, having thrown their empty cups into a nearby dustbin. Only eight people were waiting for the next empty carriage to descend to ground level and open its doors. Five of them - three children and two adults - belonged to one family, while the rest were a group of three girls, enthusiastically talking to each other. It wouldn't take long for their turn.
A bout of shivers overcame her as the wind picked up, the warmth of the drink already a memory. She wrapped her free arm around herself, gaze dropping to the floor as she once again regretted forgetting to bring out her favourite dog-ear hoodie. It was always hanging on her clothes rack, and it would have been so easy to just reach out a hand and swipe it on her way out. But no, she just had to wake up late and stumble out of the house still half-asleep.
She'd forgotten how cold the nights could get. Especially for her, someone who couldn't even handle the lecture theatre air-conditioning. Forgoing a long-sleeved T-shirt for her kiwi bird-print tee was not helping matters.
"Here." Something warm and soft was draped around her shoulders, and she looked up to find herself draped in Lloyd's familiar jacket, his face hovering close to hers. "You should have told me you were cold," Lloyd muttered, his breath tickling her neck. "I would have given you my jacket earlier."
His jacket smelt like him, a safe, comforting blanket that reached to her thighs. It held his body heat, too, slowly seeping into her.
Colette flushed, turning her face away so she didn't have to look into those russet eyes. For there was concern there, as well as the ever-present kindness, but there was also more. There was no way to hide her blush, not when he was right here, but she still had to resist the urge to hide her face behind the plushy.
Why was she still trying so hard to hide, anyway? It's not like it was of any use. She was so obvious. As Zelos had told her, it had gone far past the point of being funny.
"Though I guess you're always cold," Lloyd said, tearing his gaze away from her and taking a hurried step back. Perhaps the words were meant to be teasing, but they fell flat with the out-of-place laughter attached to the end.
"I - I mean, it - it was my fault for not bringing a jacket in the first place," she stuttered, the words stumbling over each other in her mouth in her hurry to answer. Now Lloyd would know she was nervous too. She was doing really well, wasn't she? “But thank you.”
"The next carriage is here," the attendant called out, voice flat and expression terribly bored. He was staring at them with a barely veiled expression of disinterest, waving his arms to direct them into the next carriage, doors wide open.
"Come on." Lloyd grabbed her hand, the smile returning to his face. The Ferris wheel was lit up to the nines, throwing soft purple light onto everything around her and illuminating half of Lloyd's face. Beautiful. He was always so beautiful, but it was moments like these where it made her heart hurt, wanting so desperately to reach out and touch his face.
Heart pounding in her chest, she took her seat, Lloyd sitting directly on her left, their legs close enough to brush.
She placed the plushy in her lap, resting her chin on it and trying her best to slow her racing heart, knowing it would be of no use. Here, in this carriage that was slowly rising into the sky and gently rocking, it was just the two of them in this little space, cut off from the rest of the world.
It was hard to tell herself she was imagining the intense way Lloyd was staring at her, like she was the only thing worth looking at, even though the beautiful night scenery was right outside the glass. Nor was it possible to imagine the tension, sharp as a knife, that had arisen between them for the past half a year or so. Almost everything was the same: they were still incredibly close, but there was a hesitance there now - in the way Lloyd’s fingers sometimes curled away from hers, in the way she sometimes stopped before throwing an arm around his shoulder to embrace him.
Neither of them had spoken up about that tension, dancing around each other like fools. Even if he did return her feelings… Love wasn’t enough to bridge the impossible distance between them. She could never fully comprehend all that he felt, just as he could never fully comprehend the absence of what she felt. She could never give him what others could, not with her extreme revulsion towards anything sexual in nature. She’d be willing to try, for him, simply because her love for him knew no bounds, but… she couldn't say where her limits would be. Likely not very far from where she would start.
Even though Lloyd had been nothing but supportive of her, that didn’t mean he was willing to take a chance that could very well end in failure and heartbreak. She might not be enough for him when it came to a relationship. If that was the case, she could understand. Neither of them had done anything wrong. If they were incompatible from the start, then she could keep her silence. She’d be perfectly happy to remain as friends, even if these nebulous feelings would never leave her chest. She didn’t want to lose them.
"Um, do you, uh... like the plushy?" Lloyd asked, his voice cutting through her anxious thoughts. Awkwardness radiated off of him in spades as he shifted in the seat, turning his head away to stare down at the floor. At least she wasn't the only one that was nervous. He was repeating the exact question he’d asked her when he’d given her the plushy.
"I love it. It's soft, and it's cute. Thanks for giving it to me." The same answer she’d given him before.
Lloyd had been the one who won a carnival game - the ball toss, to be specific. He'd managed to down all the cans with a single ball and gotten the choice of any of the first-place prizes. Zelos had raised an eyebrow and asked him how he'd gotten past the unfair odds. Lloyd had sheepishly scratched the back of his head and said it was a lucky accident, one that he couldn’t repeat, which proved to be true in his later attempts.
Lloyd had taken one look at the prize pool, pointed out the Siberian Husky plush to the staff, and then stuffed it into her hands the moment he'd gotten it, proclaiming that it was a gift for her. Zelos had been outright snickering, while even Sheena had looked like she was holding back laughter, shoulders shaking.
Lloyd's hand found hers in the little space between them, his thumb rubbing the skin of her palm just below her fingers. It was a repetitive, soothing motion, helping to calm her down.
She hoped that, no matter what, they would always stay together. Whether as friends or more. Just the two of them.
"I'm glad you like it." Lloyd's voice was getting progressively quieter with each syllable his lips formed, slowly shifting right along the seat towards her.
“Can - can I… Lloyd asked timidly, turning to face her and leaning closer. Her field of vision narrowed to just his face, barely lit by the scant light that reached them from the carnival grounds and the spokes of the Ferris wheel. Everything else was slowly turning into a blur. “Can I kiss you?”
The carriage had reached the top of its revolution. Through the window, she could see the sparkling lights of the high-rises in the distance. Silence suffused the air as no one spoke, the world itself seeming to hold its breath, neither she nor Lloyd moving a single part of their bodies as they stared at each other. His eyes were wide, filled with such incredible emotion, built up over years and spilling over at this very moment.
Her breath caught in her throat, a current of warmth making itself known in her heart at the fact that he’d actually bothered to ask. She’d expected Lloyd to - the kind, considerate soul that she’d come to know and love, but somewhere in the back of her mind was tucked the irrational fear that there would never be anyone who respected her boundaries, simply because she wasn't worth it.
She took a deep breath, preparing her answer. It wouldn’t be “normal”, that was for sure. It wasn’t a simple yes or no, but rather…
“Is it fine if it’s on the cheek?” were the quiet words that left her mouth, shattering the expectant silence as her grip tightened on the plushy. Maybe one day, she wouldn’t mind a kiss on the lips, but not today. She wasn’t up to it yet.
She doesn’t know what answer she expects. Probably a no. It’s perfectly understandable for Lloyd to just step away.
“Of course,” Lloyd replied instantly, the gentle smile on his face once again shattering all the preconceived notions she’d constructed in her head, absolutely terrified of rejection but huddling herself into a corner in the belief that that was all she could possibly receive. There had been no hesitation behind that statement, no hint of reproach or anger or irritation towards her.
“Yes.” The word slipped out without any thought, for she herself had yearned for so terribly long. The desire she had always held to love, and to be loved, despite everything - to experience it all with the boy that had always been part of her life and that she hoped could continue to be there for the rest of it.
She turned her head to the side, and it didn't take another moment longer before Lloyd pressed his lips against her cheek, one hand still holding hers while his other arm wrapped around her shoulder, the plushy trapped between them. He was nothing if not gentle, bringing up her earliest memories of being kissed on the cheek by her mother, before she had left her life forever. It was through that gentleness that the force of his love was truly impressed on her - for there was passion there, in the very act of holding himself back. Love, gentle like a warm flame, but not any lesser for it, for his love was just as impregnable as a brick wall, unyielding and unbreaking.
She could feel his warm breath against her cheek, his lips softer than she could have thought, his hair close enough to run her hands through as she’d always wanted. So she did, letting the strands fall through her fingers like melted chocolate.
Was he… smiling? It sure felt like it.
It wasn't a magical moment like people always said the first kiss would be like. After all, theirs was nowhere close to conventional, but it was an experience that belonged only to them. No sparks were flying in the air, nor did time stop. It was just the two of them, fitting together perfectly like puzzle pieces in the way they always had, and she couldn't ask for anything more.
Lloyd moved away, his arm dropping from her shoulder, hand joining the other to clasp her limp one. His eyes were shining with joy, the same joy that filled her heart and made it feel like it might take flight at any time. Everything had finally fallen into place.
Her whole face was now on fire as she turned away, leaning forward over her legs. Her hair fell by the side of her face like a veil, letting only tiny glimpses of Lloyd through.
“You’re sure?” she asked, knowing that she needed to clarify. Even if his actions had been the shining light that burned away most of her doubts, some still remained. Lloyd really, truly needed to understand what he was getting into. She would not let him mindlessly enter into a relationship with her without knowing about all the ups and downs, all the complications that would come with it. That would only end in them hurting each other, and then they might never be able to stand the sight of each other again. It was the dreaded future she never wanted to come to pass. “It’s not going to be easy."
“I know,” he replied, squeezing her hand, his russet eyes focussed on hers. “But all relationships have challenges, don't they? We'll figure it out together, just like always. And if it doesn’t work out, then we’ll stay as friends, forever. I just want you to know that I love you.”
There is nothing but burning conviction behind his words, and a determination that reached deep into her soul and lit a flame of hope.
There would be many more difficult conversations that needed to be had, candid discussions that would need to take place. But for now, she didn't say anything more, hoping the unspoken “I love you” from her side could be understood, clear as day. She still couldn’t make herself say it, the final lingering doubt that she suspected would never fully go away holding her back: that romantic love had to go hand in hand with sexual attraction, and that one could not exist without the other.
She simply closed her eyes, leaning against him and enjoying the gentle rocking of the carriage for the remainder of their time on the Ferris wheel.

25-years-old
"Remember this Ferris wheel?" Lloyd teased Colette, squeezing her hand as they stood in front of the Ferris wheel at the reopened carnival. It wasn't the exact same one they’d ridden at the age of 18, for that one had been deconstructed years ago. But it was a near-perfect replica, down to the purple lights that lit up the spokes, though the hearts were gone. Even the bored attendant who was barely paying attention to her duties was right!
"How could I forget?" Colette laughed, her trademark bright smile on her face. Even after knowing her for twenty years and dating her for seven of those years, the sight of her smile never failed to light a spark in his chest.
At least this time Colette was dressed appropriately for the colder night, in a pencil skirt and a long-sleeved collared blouse with a few frills. She looked a lot more put-together than him, who was just wearing plain old jeans. He had picked her straight up from work before driving them here, after all.
All that was missing was the staff pass that she’d removed from around her neck and left in the car. Her smart-casual image, however, was completely shattered by the pair of grey dog ears poking out of her hair, attached to the headband sitting behind her ears. They even felt furry to the touch, though it wasn’t real dog fur.
A pair of brown ears sat on his own head. Colette hadn’t managed to win a grand prize at the game stalls like he once had out of dumb luck, but she'd managed to do pretty well at the ring toss, scoring almost all of her tosses onto the red-rimmed bottles. That meant she could redeem a few mid-tier prizes, so she'd gotten two headbands with dog ears attached, one for her and one for him that he could wear if he wanted to. He'd put it on immediately. Now they matched! He needed to take a picture of them sometime - Sheena and Zelos would appreciate the cute image.
More like Sheena would strangle him over digital space if he didn't send cute photos.
The carnival had finally returned after four years of absence, and he and Colette had jointly decided to return almost immediately upon hearing the news. It was small and honestly not that impressive compared to other theme parks they’d been to, but it still held precious memories. And it would make for a fun date, which it certainly had so far!
They'd retraced their steps from years ago, though unfortunately, they were lacking Zelos and Sheena. First riding the pirate ship, Colette’s hair going wild in the air as the ship swung from side-to-side, then visiting the game stalls, laughing at each other’s absolutely horrendous attempts, then buying and sharing a stick of cotton candy between them, taking turns biting from the fluffy substance and having their tongues curl from the overload of sweetness, before finally arriving back here at the Ferris wheel.
"I know I've said this already, but thanks for planning this all out," Colette said, linking her arm with his and smiling up at him as they joined the queue. The queue was much longer today, amounting to more than 40 people, by his rough estimate. It was still quite early in the evening, half of the sun still peeking over the horizon, the sky painted in a pink that would soon be darkening to orange. It was just as noisy as in the past, perhaps even noisier, for the families hadn't gone home yet. "There were quite a few kerfuffles with the system at work today, and this really helped."
"That bad?"
"Mm. We had a new intern come in today, and then the old system just decided to crash. Not the intern's fault, she's the sweetest girl. But it was still a headache to deal with."
"Well, I'm glad it helped. Though I'm just happy to spend more time with you."
If everything went according to plan, then he'd be seeing a lot more of her in the future.
He shoved his hand into his pocket, checking that the all-important box was still there. It was the crux of this whole operation, and he could not lose it.
Colette laughed, a sound that inevitably made him smile. "I'm sorry I haven't been free for the past few weeks. It's a busy time for the company."
"It's alright. I'll be starting work soon too, after all. Besides, we still stay two floors apart. There's pretty much no way we don't see each other every week, silly."
"Sorry, sorry. Shouldn't be a downer; you're right. Anyway, since tomorrow’s a public holiday, want to spend it over at my place?”
“Netflix and chill?” Lloyd answered, well aware that he was probably getting some weird looks from people close enough to overhear him. He wasn’t even sure if Colette knew of its double meaning - she was generally completely clueless about the world of euphemisms. Over time, they’d just started co-opting the phrase. After all, their time together at each other’s place was mostly spent… watching shows while curled up together on the couch, creating dishes that were more like unrecognisable disasters in the kitchen while attempting not to set the whole place on fire, or Colette playing video games at the foot of the bed while he tickled her neck with his toes. In terms of risque activities, they so rarely happened - and only after he checked, double-checked and triple-checked that Colette was feeling up to it and not forcing herself for his sake.
“I don’t mind, but we haven’t finished that card game we started last month. The card piles are still sitting untouched on my bay window. Wanna do that instead?”
“Sure!” He replied enthusiastically. Board games or card games always promised a good time, if infuriating when nothing would line up and Lady Luck was decidedly not smiling on him. Colette seemed to get all the luck in these party games. Maybe it was consolation for tripping all the time.
“It’s such a shame that Zelos and Sheena aren’t here,” Colette said, pulling out her phone. “I know they went on the Ferris wheel the year after we did, but we still haven’t gotten that group photo we were supposed to.”
“One’s in Europe and one’s in Australia. There’s no way they could join us on such short notice.” The last he'd heard from them, both were doing well for themselves and very happy in their long-distance relationship.
“True. I guess I can add them to the photo afterwards with the power of Photoshop. Oh, and Zelos sent me this really weird message...” After a few swipes of her finger, Colette shoved the bright phone screen under his nose.
Zelos Wilder: Looking forward to the good news ;)
“Do you have any idea what they mean?” Colette asked, cocking her head to the side in confusion. “They haven’t been replying to my question!”
Lloyd could feel his fingers twitching. Zelos Wilder wasn’t here, but if they were, Lloyd would have strangled them already. Trying to spoil the surprise, were they?
“It’s probably nothing! You know how they are. Always trying to cause chaos.” Lloyd shrugged, hoping he wasn’t being too obvious, as he tended to be.
“I suppose that’s true… What good news?” Lloyd could hear Colette repeating that question to herself under her breath, not quite soft enough for it to escape his notice. She didn’t seem to have noticed that anything was up with him, thankfully.
“It’s our turn! Come on, let’s get on!” Lloyd declared, just loud enough to startle Colette and cause her to nearly drop her phone. She hurriedly stuffed it back into her pocket, following Lloyd to the open carriage. She hadn't realised the space before them had completely cleared.
The attendant lazily waved them onto the open carriage with barely a glance at them, a mumbled: “Have a nice ride” leaving her mouth.
Lloyd was the first to scramble on, turning around to give Colette a helping hand - only to find her falling straight into him, having tripped over the raised step. With a shocked “Oh!” falling from her lips, Colette crashed into him, nearly knocking him flat onto the carriage seat. With a shocked yelp, Lloyd braced himself against the glass window of the carriage, barely maintaining his balance. Years of practice at stopping Colette’s sometimes fantastical falls over obstacles that weren’t visible to him had honed his reaction times to near perfection, giving him ample preparation for this situation.
The attendant continued to ignore them, gaze fixed not so discreetly on the phone sitting in her lap. The doors of the carriage slid smoothly shut, and with a jolt that nearly knocked them off balance again, the carriage set off on its journey.
"Um, sorry..." Colette apologised from her position pressed flush against Lloyd's chest, arms entangled in his. She slowly extricated herself from the mess, stumbling a few times but managing not to fall again, even with the gentle swaying of the carriage floor. He tried his best to steady her without falling over himself. She sheepishly smiled. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” Lloyd adjusted her headband, setting the ears that had been knocked crooked back into their rightful place. He’d told her multiple times that she didn’t need to apologise for tripping, but she still did, the habit too ingrained to break. It was endearing, though. “You?”
“I’m fine!” Colette smoothed out her skirt (though there weren’t any noticeable wrinkles in it from the fall,) and sat down to rest her weary feet, giving Lloyd the cue to sit down as well. “Thank goodness I wasn’t wearing heels…”
Lloyd did not want to imagine what would have happened if she was - she might have twisted her ankle, or worse. She rarely wore heels due to her clumsiness, but when she did, all sorts of accidents tended to happen.
He stuffed his hand into his pocket again, fingers feeling the velvet texture again.
It’s still here.
"What's still here?" Colette’s confused voice broke through his relieved thoughts. Her hands were resting in her lap and she was leaning forward, eyes shining with a curious light. The usual white lights of the new condominiums close to the carnival grounds shone, a few glimmers of pink visible as people celebrated Pink Dot. It was at this very moment that the Ferris wheel's lights turned from purple to pink, the spokes emanating soft pink light that washed over Colette, making her hair glisten - almost like an ethereal fairy with imaginary wings that shimmered, having come to visit him on this mortal plane. The dog ears only added to that image, somehow. Even now, the sight of her was enough to make him feel dizzy, both out of love and awe, even if he no longer blushed like an embarrassed schoolboy. Awe that she could get more beautiful every time his gaze landed on her. And awe that such an incredible person had chosen to trust him and stay with him.
He was so enraptured by the angel before him that it took a few seconds for her words to process in his mind, after which he froze in horror.
OH NO, HE’D SAID IT OUT LOUD. A thousand alarm bells were ringing in his head. Some days he was reminded that he was an adult now, and other days he was reminded that he was as much an idiot as he used to be. Some things just never changed.
“You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to,” Colette said, a teasing lilt to her voice as she rested her chin on her palm, an amused smile playing on her lips.
He could just play it off - he knew Colette wouldn’t pursue it any further if he gave off the signals to drop the topic. She was just like that: the most considerate person he knew.
But…
The original plan had been to do it on the Ferris wheel. It even had Zelos' approval. This, right now, was the perfect chance to just let the cat out of the bag. And he would grasp the opportunity in hand before it could escape him.
For he could think of no future happier than one spent Colette’s side.
Taking a deep breath, he pulled the purple box out of his pocket with a shaking hand, dropping to his knees on the surprisingly clean carriage floor, devoid of the usual spilt drinks and crumpled up tissues.
He could tell the exact moment Colette gleaned the true intent behind his actions, the blank, confused expression on her face morphing into one of shocked disbelief, eyes widening and hands flying up to cover her mouth.
Damn it, he’d completely forgotten the script he’d written with Zelos’ assistance in a back-and-forth over messages, Zelos alternating between giving actually good advice and being extremely annoying, though Lloyd had gotten them to shut up by asking them when they planned to propose. The two of them had both struggled to find the right words, since neither of them had done super well in English. But Lloyd had persevered, wanting to get his feelings across eloquently.
But now that he was staring into Colette’s blue eyes, all the words were sprouting wings and flying mockingly out of his head, leaving only blank space for him to reach uselessly for.
The one piece of advice Zelos had given him that continued to stick in his head was this: speak from the heart, and surely she would understand.
He couldn’t keep her waiting forever.
“I… ” He couldn’t help but start off slow, struggling against the block in his mind but determined to push past it. The words then seemed to just come to him, progressively faster as time went on, stumbling out of some unknown part of his mind - or perhaps it would be more accurate to say his heart. Somehow, throughout it all, he didn't drop the box despite his trembling hands. “Colette, you’re the most amazing person I know. Your compassion, your gentleness, even your clumsiness, they’re all vital parts of my life that I wouldn’t give up for anything. You are my shining star in the sky, the one that gives me hope, that inspires me to be the best version of myself. If I had the choice to relieve my life from the start, I wouldn't change a thing, because meeting you on that playground all those years ago was the best thing that has ever happened to me. All my years spent with you have been incredible, and I would like to spend many more by your side. So, just like years ago, Colette, I have something I need to ask you, right here and right now.”
“Will you… Will you marry me?” He finished, voice drifting off into silence as he flipped open the box to reveal the two plain, thin metal rings he’d bought. Colette wasn’t the type to go for flashy diamonds or colourful gems. She’d appreciate something simple like this.
He waited, the few seconds of deafening silence seeming to stretch out into eternity, broken only by the sound of blood rushing past his ears. This wasn’t the first time he’d asked this very question, if in a different and less dramatic form. He’d already received her answer once. But he would respect whatever answer she gave now, and most of all, they would keep the promise they had made at this very place: that they would always remain friends, no matter what.
~~~
Colette still couldn’t quite believe her ears, gaze flitting between Lloyd’s face and the box he was holding up towards her, the two rings housed snugly within reflecting pink light.
Marriage had crossed her mind many times. She had learned over the years that it wasn’t a penultimate goal that had to be reached to prove her relationship successful, and she’d told Lloyd as much when he’d asked her two months ago if she’d be willing to get married.
But still, even if she had managed to break free from most of the notions the fairytales of old had implanted into her head, able to just enjoy them as sweet stories now, she couldn’t quite rid herself of the dream of having a fairytale wedding. One that was perfectly planned, with family and friends present to stand witness to their union.
She’d told him yes. That she would be willing to tie the knot with him, the one she loved. The expectation of a proposal had been simmering in the back of her mind ever since, often going forgotten. She had not expected the time would be now. Lloyd had been more fidgety than normal, constantly checking his pockets while disguising the action as keeping his hands in his pockets. She’d known something was up, but his true intentions had escaped her detection until just moments before, when she’d been taken off guard. All she’d thought when he’d pulled out the box was that it resembled the ring boxes in the dramas Sheena was always recommending to her, the ones that appeared in all the emotional proposal scenes, until the realisation had hit her in the chest like a truck.
Once again, like years ago, they’d reached the top of the revolution. The silence remained unbroken as Lloyd patiently awaited her answer, not pushing her towards one. And so events repeated, mirrored across time.
Colette slowly stretched out her arm, eyes shimmering with unshed tears as a smile graced her face. She nodded, her throat blocked by all the emotions that swirled in her chest, unable to say ‘yes’ out loud even as she screamed it over and over in her mind, the tears finally breaking free of whatever barrier was holding them back to spill down her face.
Lloyd broke out into the most beautiful smile she had ever seen, radiating pure joy as he slid one of the simple, elegant, silver bands onto her ring finger. It fit. Perfectly. When had he even learned her ring size?
She picked up the other ring that was meant for Lloyd, marvelling at how her hand could somehow remain stable as the rest of her body trembled in barely contained emotion. The ring was so tiny, held between her thumb and index finger, and yet it held such significant weight as she slid it onto his ring finger, the skin of his hand rough against hers and the metal cold.
Lloyd jumped to his feet, pulling her into an embrace and pressing a kiss to the top of her head (his nose bumping the dog ears), holding her close, his happy laughter rumbling through his chest. Even now, when he must have been bursting with joy, he was still mindful of her boundaries, refusing to do anything that would cross the line. Heart filled with warmth, she pressed herself impossibly closer, intending to just melt into his arms forever -
"Please get off the carriage."
The deadpan voice that belonged to neither her nor Lloyd broke through the peaceful bubble that had been constructed around the two of them. She froze, feeling Lloyd stiffen around her as well. Looking to the left yielded the view of solid ground, and the same uninterested attendant gesturing towards it.
Ah. They'd reached the bottom without even noticing. This was… embarrassing, to say the least.
Thankfully, no one seemed to be in the queue at the moment, allowing the two of them to escape from the Ferris wheel without much attention. It appeared that only the attendant had borne witness, and she couldn’t seem to care less, having returned to the booth.
Their interlocked hands swung in the air, the matching rings glinting under the bright neon lights of the carnival as she wiped away her happy tears, both of them grinning uncontrollably.
"I love you," Lloyd said, the words leaving his lips with ease, as they always had. "Shall we go home?” he asked.
Home was with friends and family and Lloyd, the one who held her heart.
Colette squeezed Lloyd’s hand. She felt light as a feather, like she could somehow fly with wings that she didn't have.
"I love you," she replied, the words coming so easily now. "Let’s.”
~~~
The attendant shook her head, scoffing as she returned to scrolling through Twitter.
“I suppose love does make the world go round.”

Ask for writers
Thank you @theisolatedlily and @soldouthaz for tagging me, I really appreciate it! This lovely tag was created by @soldouthaz, which I think is brilliant to get to know other writers!! I love it, so thank you Sarah!
This is quite long, but I still hope it’s entertaining!
1. describe how you first started writing and when you first posted: I’ve always wanted to write. I know that I only began publishing this year (January 2020) but years back, I always would open up a blank document and just... write. Lack of confidence and language barriers (I wanted to write in English, but it isn’t my first language and I only became fluent three years ago) have made it so that I would never finish a story. I think we all had our wattpad moment but even on there I would never really publish because the platform just wasn’t right. But then I discovered ao3, where I’d read fics and also improve my English. Then I found out about fests, and I decided to participate in one last year (2019 BLFF) and my first fic then came out!
And ever since, I’ve been able to write and finish what I start. It’s as if the lock that had been put to block my creativity had been destroyed; posting my first completed fic has acted as a turning point. I was extremely nervous when I first posted, still am, but now I have this need to write and I love sharing what I write and ever since I became a writer, my life’s been a lot better!
2. which of your characters do you typically resonate most closely with? do you base any characters off of yourself?: I switch between Louis’ POV, or Harry’s POV depending on the story; I tend to sprinkle a bit of myself in the characters I write, but then again they’re also completely different from me! I’ve never based a character completely on myself, which I find quite boring (haha); sometime unconsciously, I’d write a character based on someone I knew. I think some examples on how my characters can look a bit like me, is Hamlet in a sea of mist which has gotten his clear-headedness from me; or in my Murder Mystery fic, the way I describe Louis’ fear is heavily based on how I feel whenever I’m faced with something that makes me uncomfortable.
3. where do you often find inspiration?: art (paintings, music), books, quotes, poems and movies!
4. has quarantine helped or hindered your writing process?: having so much free time on my hands has definitely helped; I would seek refuge within my stories, to spice up quarantine!
5. do you listen to music/noise while you write or do you prefer silence? I love love love playing classical music (Chopin, Saint-Saens, Debussy, Yiruma, Einaudi, Faulkner, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Mozart to name a few) while writing. I can’t write when it’s anything else. But I can also write when there’s nothing; hearing the rhythmic clicking sound of the keyboard as I press over its keys can be relaxing to me.
6. what is your biggest writing pet peeve in your writing or in general?: hm in my writing I guess I tend to write very long sentences, and also I still do grammar mistakes. I hope to work on those points. I also find the way I space my fics very annoying (which is why I’ve begun making outlines!).
7. describe your ideal writing setup: in a couch or a bed with several pillows piled up behind my back, classical music in my ears and a steaming cup of tea next to me.
8. favorite time of day to write?: I love writing when it’s very early, usually after I’ve woken up and freshened up. I don’t like writing when it’s too late because I’m not a night owl; rather an early bird. I especially love when I write and it’s still dark outside, then slowly dawn breaks in and the sky becomes tainted in warm hues of orange, yellow and sometimes even purple and pink.
9. favorite genre to write + one you’d like to try writing in the future?: I love writing fantasy, horror, suspense, action, thrillers. Especially angst and hurt/comfort, as well as slow burn. I’d like in the future to explore sci-fi and magical realism!
10. do you struggle with writer’s block? how do you typically overcome it? I haven’t suffered from writer block so far, which I’m glad!!
11. what is the easiest part of your writing process and the most difficult? writing is the easiest, but outlining (as in, coming up with plot ideas) is quite difficult for me. Also dialogues can be a bit of a problem to me.
12. how do you come up with original characters? (if applicable): I just make them up in my mind, and create them when they’re necessary to the story, giving them personality traits that will help the story develop.
13. what is your favorite and least favorite word? it’s hard to choose cause I have several but favourite: petrichor and least favourite: big
14. what is one thing about your writing that you’re really proud of and one thing you hope to continue working at?: I am proud of the way I describe, which allows me to really settle the story in its verse. I love describing, giving importance to the ordinary. Also feelings; I love describing them and exploring how I can translate them into words, so that the reader can feel them. But I have to work on my dialogues methinks.
15. what work of yours has your favorite ‘verse/world building? how did you come up with it?: those who from the Pit of Hell, roam to seek their prey on earth. I’ve always wanted to begin writing thrillers/Murder mystery fics and with that one I think I managed to? I had read an article on forensic medicine back in the 19th century and it sparked this fic’s plot!
16. what font and size do you write in? single spaced or double?: Arial, 11pt, single spaced
17. what is a typo(s) you find yourself making consistently?: I don’t know if this can be considered as a typo but I tend to repeat, within a paragraph, A LOT my character’s name instead of using pronouns. This is because I’m afraid of confusion when another character arrives in the scene.
18. (if applicable) do you separate fic writing from fandom?: I don’t know if I understood the question properly, but yes? When I use Louis or Harry in my fics, they’re completely different from real-Louis or real-Harry; they’re my characters, they only have the same names, but their personality reflects in nothing real-life Harry and Louis.
I think to answer this better: I do separate fic writing from fandom, but I still think that fanfics are important to a fandom; I haven’t heard of a fandom without fanfics! Fanfics spice up fandoms, I reckon, they’re important to bring people together.
19. what emotion is your favorite to write? which is the most difficult?: Angst is my favourite thing to write, as well as fear. And I struggle with writing humour, I’m not a funny person to be honest
20. what is one thing you hope readers always take away from your works?: I always hope they like my writing and the plot, also the way I portray my characters. I want my readers to feel the writing, and the story in general. I just want my readers to truly enjoy what they read from me <3
21. what is the best and worst writing advice you’ve ever received?: I was told to always write very specifically and to fit my writing into a mould — don’t write ‘he’s’ but ‘he is’, or write shorter sentences, or stop describing so much. But in the end, there isn’t one way of writing — write the way you want.
22. which one of your works would you most want to see turned into a film/television show?: only one? ahhh this is hard! But I’d love to see those who from the Pit of Hell, roam to seek their prey on earth be turned into a movie. There are also a couple of wips that I could see on-screen but I’ll stick to that!
23. do you write scenes chronologically or out of order?: chronologically. Haven’t explored anachronies (analepsis/prolepsis) at all, but I might soon!
24. how do you handle criticism?: really well!! As long as they’re constructive and not mean, I love hearing what people think. Criticism is the best way for me, a person whose first person is not English, to improve!
25. what is the advice you would give to someone who is looking to start writing?: DO IT!! Honestly, don’t tell yourself, ‘I’m not good enough’. Just do it. Open a blank document and write your heart away, even if it’s not a story; just begin it. Explore your writing style, then maybe try to mould it into a plot. Writing is not limited to a certain category of people; it’s not just for those who can write. Writing is for everyone, and like most things, one must begin before improving (practice makes perfect!!) <3
26. what kind of feedback on your work always makes your day?: anything!!! Just the fact someone clicked on my story, read it, and took time to leave a comment — just that is enough to make my heart bursts with joy. I am so so grateful to every single person who’s ever read something from me.
27. which fic ‘verse of your own would you most like to exist in? which fic’s characters would you most like to befriend?: The verse I’m talking about is still a wip, but the siren/mermaid one that I’m currently building! I’d love to live in it.
28. what do you always enjoy getting asks about/wish people would ask about more?: Anything, really, my inbox is open to anyone and for everything! I love discussing books, movies and poetry as well as quotes, and maybe I wish people would come forth to ask me more about my fics or my wips, if they have any inquiries! Or I’d love to write drabbles!
29. what has writing added to your life? how has it changed you?: It has made my life so, so much better. Writing has stitched up a gaping hole in my chest. It’s permitted me to improve in English, has made me more confident and has allowed my creativity to flow. I just... I love writing so much. It has also allowed me to meet some incredible people on tumblr, which I’m very grateful for!!
30. why do you write?: for many reasons; to spice up my life, to help me develop my creativity, and because I love it. I’ve always wanted to be a writer.
boost yourself + tags!
1a. share the last sentence you wrote:
The words echo around his head and collide with his temples like truncheon blows.
2a. describe the wip you’re most excited about:
I’m excited for all of them, but I’ll go with my third BLFF fic. It’s very angsty, post-war, ABO, exes to lovers. It tackles heavy topics, it’s such an emotional fic. I’m so so excited for her (she comes out in January).
3a. share the piece of dialogue from one of your works you’re most proud of:
This is hard. But I’ll go with one from in a sea of mist cause the way Louis answers Harry... I love it:
“I feel like you want to kill me,” he pants out, using his right arm to hold himself up while his other hand comes up to rub at his burning cheek and nose, where Louis had hit him with the sole of his shoe.
“Before our date? No, never,” Louis blinks sweetly, chuckling and climbing up as Harry smiles to himself.
4a. share the best first and last lines from your work(s): I will do only those that are already published:
best first lines are from the hope that warbles in my fluttering breast: There, against the window, was stuck millions of snowflakes, their see-through quality no more as they huddled together, pushed against hard surfaces by the merciless wind.
best last lines are from in a sea of mist: It takes a while for Harry to go to sleep, elation pumping through his veins so fast that the previous tiredness he felt has flown out of the window. But when he finally focuses on Louis’ heavened out breathing, and when he breathes in Louis’ natural perfume that always acts as an ambrosia over him, he manages to close his eyes, and for the first time in a while, he dreams of a future that’s devoid of any darkness.
5a. link the last fic you read: currently reading sweet like honey by @falsegoodnight and Spoonful of Sugar by @zanniscaramouche and they’re absolutely amazing!
6a. link the last work you published: in a sea of mist
7a. link to your ao3 (if applicable): tomlinvelvet
8a. someone that inspires you: Louis <3 his music and just his personality overall leaves so much scope for the imagination. There are also so many writers (both non-fanfic writers and fanfic writers) that inspire me daily.
9a. a comfort fic/work that you’ve been grateful for this year: even the best laid plans and just a flicker in the dark both by @falsegoodnight as well as eyes off you by @soldouthaz ... these fics are just so amazing, everything about them is top tier
10a. other writers that you’d like to tag! @falsegoodnight @scrunchyharry @hadestyles @mercurial-madhouse @youreyesonlarry @raspberryoatss @jacaranda-bloom @soldouthaz @behisoneandonly @vintageumbroshirt @so-why-let-your-voice-be-tamed @lougendarey @quelquesetoiles <3 no pressure ofc!

Monster Match #26: Duamutef (Lemon)
The Traveler's Masterlist
For @one-halloween: “My pronouns are she/her and my orientation is pan. I'm small (like 4'9") with waist length brown hair that's bleached in an ombre style. I dress in a kind of retro style (so like 80s acid washed jeans and crop tops). Uhh I love reading, writing and gaming as well as hiking and working on a car or something like that. I'm often quiet but around people I like I can be the jokester of the group.
Cliché but I like partners who are taller than me, and those I can joke around with. Someone who is also loyal and honest as well as loving and will take interest in hobbies. The things I dislike are dishonesty and secrets. As well as someone who takes life way too seriously and won't crack a joke here or there. Also someone who doesn't take interest in what others do. I was thinking if you could make it NSFW that would be great.”
You’ve been matched with Duamutef!
Duamutef is one of the four sons of Horus and one of the protection gods of the four canopic burial jars, specifically the jar which contains the stomach. In war, the most frequent cause of death was from injuries in the torso and stomach, and Duamutef protects this organ, both in life and in death.
Duamutef was originally represented as a man wrapped in mummy bandages; however, from the New Kingdom onwards, he is shown with the head of a jackal and is an example of cynocephaly which, in Greek mythology, is a creature with a human body and a canid head, specifically a jackal.
What gives a god their power was the belief of their followers; however, many of the ancient religions had either died completely or were far less worshiped during modern times, affording the gods of those pantheons less power. While some gods lamented this decline in their abilities, others found it freeing, and delighted in the opportunity of roaming the earth as they wished. One such deity was Duamutef.
As a lesser god, even people who followed the revival religion Khemetism didn’t tend to worship him as much as Anubis or Ma’at or his father Horus, so he decided to come to earth and travel the world, learning about an era with which he was unfamiliar.
Of course, you didn’t know all that when you met him. He introduced himself as Tua, an exchange student from Egypt. He was a mysterious figure and his age indecipherable to you. Sometimes he seemed young and boyish, easily a full foot taller than you, always smiling and laughing. However, there was this ageless look in his eye that told the story of a very old soul. He was tall and dark, just like in fairy tales, and already very popular on campus.
It surprised you when he took notice of you. You were a quiet girl, unassuming and not the type to draw attention, so his sudden interest in you was a little startling.
“Excuse me,” He said one day, coming up to you suddenly. “I’m afraid I don’t know your name.”
“That’s probably because we’ve never spoken before,” You said. “And I don’t think you know any of my friends.”
“An oversight. My apologies,” He said, smiling. “I make it my aim to know everyone in every place I go.”
You looked at him in alarm. “There are hundreds of people attending this college.”
“I am aware,” He said, still smiling. He had those deep, dark type of bottomless black eyes one could get lost in. “I’ve managed to at least introduce myself to most of the people, but it seems I have missed you. Forgive me.”
“Honestly, it’s not a big deal,” You said. “I’m nobody, really.”
“That’s not true,” He said. “Everybody is somebody to someone, and I’d like to be a friend to you. My name is Tua. May I ask yours?” He offered his hand to shake and you shook it, telling him your name. “Will you walk with me? The cafeteria is offering something called a corndog I’m eager to try.”
You laughed. “Don’t get too excited about that. It’s not exactly a culinary masterpiece.”
“But it’ll be new. I like new. I spent a very long time in one place, and now that I’m out in the world, I want to experience as much as I can.”
“Were you homeschooled as a kid or something?” You asked.
He laughed again. “Or something. My family had a lot of responsibilities many years ago, you could say. After working my whole life in the service of others, I think I’ve earned a vacation.”
“Well, I can’t argue with that,” You said. “It can be tough when your parents expect a lot from you.”
“That’s the truth,” He replied. “So, corndog? I’ll treat you.” He extended his hand toward the cafeteria.
You echoed his laughter. “I don’t know if I’d call it a treat, but sure. That sounds nice.”
From then on, Tua spent a lot of time with you. He seemed to go out of his way to seek you out. He said he enjoyed listening to you talk about things, saying that your perspective was entertaining. You didn’t mind his presence. He was earnest and funny and he always wanted to hear your opinion on things. He’d often come to the bookstore where you worked to get your recommendation for new books to read. He seemed confused by a lot of western culture’s practices and often asked you for advice or to explain things to him. His open curiosity and wonder with the world around him was very endearing.
You weren’t sure why he chose you to help him navigate life in the western world. Surely there were better candidates in the large pool of people who followed him around. He had a legion of fans who hung on his every word and shadowed him like love-struck puppies, but he dodged them consistently to spend time with you. There were more attractive people of several genders that he could have had his pick of, but he decided on you, and you were slightly baffled by it.
“What are you doing tomorrow?” He asked you one day while you were ringing up his new purchases. He must have a significant library by this point. “There’s something called a farmer’s market I’d like to go see.”
“I can’t go tomorrow,” You said. “My friend’s car is acting up and he wants me to take a look at it. From what he’s telling me, it sounds like his alternator is shot, and if that’s the case, that’s a full day’s work.”
“You can fix cars?” He asked. If he had animal ears, you’d swear they had perked up when he said that. “How interesting. I don’t know anything about cars. Can I observe?”
You shrugged. “If you want to. Make sure to wear stuff you don’t mind getting dirty. It is very hard to get motor oil out of clothes, trust me.”
“Of course,” He said.
“Here,” You said, taking out a pen and running out a length of receipt paper to write on. “Here’s my address. He’ll be dropping it off around 9 A.M. and picking it back up after his shift at work.”
“Excellent. I won’t be late.”
“If you say so,” You said, handing him his purchases. “Here you go. That D&D book is a classic. I think you’ll really like it.”
“Much appreciated,” He said with a smile, nodding politely as he left.
He arrived the next morning carrying a sack of donuts and coffee. You were glad he already knew what kind of coffee you liked, because he drank his very strong and you wouldn’t be able to stomach it. You had to do a double take when he took off his jacket and revealed a v-neck black shirt and tight black jeans. Normally he wore a pair of slacks and a button-up, so this look was quite a change and you were having trouble not staring. He was skinny, but he had a lot more muscle definition than you would have suspected.
“I hope I’m not late,” He said. “There was an accident on the way here. No one seemed to be hurt, but there was quite a backup on the highway.”
“No, you’re fine,” You said. “My friend hasn’t even shown up yet. Let’s eat before he gets here. Eating with grease on your hands is a bad idea.”
Your friend pulled up as you were inhaling a bear claw. You introduced him to Tua, they exchanged brief pleasantries, and your friend took off for the bus stop down the road.
“He seemed nice,” Tua said.
“He’s gay and single, if you want his number,” You laughed as you popped the hood of his Honda Accord.
Tua laughed as well. “I appreciate the offer, but he’s not my cup of tea. Or coffee, if you will.” He took a big gulp, and you shuddered.
“I can’t believe you take that black. It’s got to be so bitter.”
“We didn’t have sugar where I grew up, so I’m used to it.”
Your head rocked back. “Where did you live that you didn’t have sugar.”
“Near Cairo,” He replied. “It was called something different when I was born, though.”
You made a face. “Cairo was founded in 969 AD. You’re not that old.”
He smirked. “How old do I look?”
You stared at him, trying to gauge his age, but blanked. “Let’s just get to work.”
The alternator was indeed going out, and while changing it out wasn’t rocket science, it was labor intensive work for someone as small as you were. You were actually glad to have an extra set of hands to help. In addition to the alternator, you also found a crack in one of the hoses that was also going to have to be replaced, as it was leaking coolant.
Both of you were elbow deep in grease by the time you decided to take a break for lunch. You went to order a pizza as he went in to wash his… self. He somehow managed to get grease all over his face. You had a sneaking suspicion he just liked getting dirty.
After putting in your order, you went back outside to clean up the area around the car and put away the tools you didn’t need anymore in their rightful place in the toolbox when you happened to look up to the bathroom window. You had to squint and blink, because something was… off.
Tua had taken his shirt off to clean up, but something was odd about his head. It was larger, darker, and blurry almost. It almost looked like an animal’s head. Maybe it was just how the frosted glass reflected the color of his hair, but it didn’t look… normal. Something on the top of his head resembling ears flicked back and forth. Something that looked like a snout opened and shut, as if inspecting its teeth. The head shook like a dog slinging water from its fur. You blinked, and he had put his shirt back on and his head looked completely normal again.
Were you going insane?
Tua came back out of the house, the water from washing his face and neck glistening on his skin. You didn’t realize how bug-eyed you were until he tilted his head in concern.
“Are you alright?” He asked.
You shook your head to clear it. “Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine. I thought I saw… nevermind. It doesn’t matter. Pizza’s on it’s way.”
“What did you see?” He asked neutrally.
“It doesn’t matter,” You said. “It was probably a trick of the light.”
“What if it wasn’t?” He asked in the same neutral tone, watching your face. “Hypothetically.”
“What are you talking about?” You asked.
He sighed, shook his head, and his usual smile was back in place. “No matter. What kind of pizza did you get?”
You let the matter drop, but it nagged in the back of your mind for the rest of the day.
That night, your dreams were unusual. You dreamt of a dry place, of women in soft, sheer gowns and men in short skirted garments. Shaved heads and wigs.
In one of the dreams, a woman led you to a huge, grand hall made of stone. There, sitting on a throne of ebony inlaid with gold and jewels, was a man. He had a falcon’s head on a fit human’s body. He held a staff in his hand, and on his head perched a red and white pschent, the crown of Pharaohs. Behind him were four gigantic statutes of other men and women. He sat at their feet, surrounded by attendants.
The woman gestured for you to walk forward, and the man on the throne waved a hand. All of the attendants left him, leaving you standing there alone with him.
“My son has shown you interest,” The man said, his voice booming throughout the chamber, though his mouth never moved. “That is unusual. He and his wife have divorced millennia ago, and he has not taken interest in anyone for many, many years.”
“Your son?” You repeated. “Who is your son?”
“Know you not who I am?” He asked, standing and laying his staff against the armrest. “The god of the sky above and kingdom below. The wisest of my siblings, the most benevolent. Am I a stranger to you?”
“I’m sorry,” You said hesitantly. “I’m not really religious.”
He sighed. “I suppose that’s to be expected. The power of our pantheon has declined dramatically. I must be grateful that the revival in modern times has allowed us to rise from our sleep and reclaim any sort of rule.” He stood to his full height, which had to be at least seven foot. “I am Horus. You are a friend to my son, Duamutef, blessed with the head of a jackal, the animal of death, guidance, and protection.”
“The head of a jackal?” You asked. “Like a dog? So I wasn’t hallucinating? Tua really has the head of a dog?”
“In so many terms, yes. Tua, as you know him, asked for my permission to travel the world, and I granted it to him, hoping he would stop pining and bring his knowledge of the new world back to his peers.”
“How long is he allowed to explore?”
“Not that long,” Horus said. “A few centuries.”
You gaped at him. “You realize that since the industrial age, humanity and its technology is advancing very quickly. The world isn’t the same as it was ten years ago, and it will be different in another ten years.”
“Oh,” Horus said, seemingly baffled. “That’s alarming. In the ancient kingdom, it was as if time stood still. Once we gave humans the knowledge they needed to live and create, things carried on as it always did for over three millennia.”
“Things are different now,” You said, perhaps too boldly considering you were speaking to a god.
“It would seem so,” He replied thoughtfully. “Duamutef is eager to learn, however. As long as he sends back a report, I suppose he can stay in the mortal plane as long as he wishes.”
“I’m sure that would make him happy,” You said.
“I think you would, too,” Horus said, looking down at you. A falcon can’t smile, but you felt kind approval radiating from Horus’s body.
“I would?” You said. “I’m his friend, just a girl he follows around because I explain things to him. I’m not special. Besides, I don’t even think he likes me that way.”
“Aren’t you?” Horus asked patiently. “Doesn’t he?”
You flushed. You hadn’t really considered it. He seemed way out of your league. “Well… even if he did, how can I be worthy of a god?”
“You are worthy. You do not need me to tell you so, nor do you need him to. But he has chosen you, and I am pleased that he is happy and moving on. He has been alone for a very long time.”
“This is a lot to process, you know that?”
“Indeed,” Horus agreed. He turned and went back to the throne, sitting in it. “Take some time to think it over, but do not make him wait long. My son’s happiness is important to me.” He raised his hand and snapped his fingers.
You woke covered in sweat and gasping. That… that couldn’t have been real, could it? Thank god… or gods… that tomorrow was Sunday. You needed a full day to just… deal.
Monday, you returned to school, both confused and… a little excited. There was something innately fascinating knowing an actual god was walking around campus, acting like a human. While you weren’t a fan of the fact that he was hiding it from you, you were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Just this once.
You saw him in the courtyard surrounded by his usual fans. His magnetism suddenly made a lot more sense. You wondered why you were so resistant to it.
“Tua!” You called. He looked up, caught your eye and smiled, walking over. His gaggle of… worshipers?… followed behind him.
“I need to talk to you privately,” You told him in a terse undertone.
“That sounds serious,” He said, still smiling, though he looked concerned. “What about?”
“Your father came to visit me,” You replied.
The smile slipped and the color drained from his face. “Uh…” He said to his group, trying to laugh lightly. “Sorry, friends. Family business.”
They groaned in disappointment but thankfully dispersed. He took you by the hand and led you to the side of the Sciences building.
“What did he say to you? Was he angry?”
“No,” You said. “He told me he was pleased.”
Tua sighed in relief. “I’m glad. I was worried he was annoyed with my decisions. He said he wouldn’t interfere, but I’ve been concerned because I hadn’t heard from him.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” You asked, folding your arms.
“What, that I’m a lesser god of an ancient religion that had almost died out, until the recent revival?” He said shrewdly. “Would you have believed me.”
“Your real head might have convinced me,” You replied. “The jackal?”
“Ah, yes,” He said. “I figured you had seen it the other day, but you didn’t press the issue, so I hoped you’d think it was a figment of your imagination.”
“Why didn’t you want me to know?” You asked.
“I did,” He said. “But I wanted to tell you myself, when the time was right.”
“When would the right time have been?”
He shrugged and looked at the ground. “I don’t know, I guess. I almost did, the other day, but I was nervous.”
“Your father told me something else,” You said carefully. “That you had been alone a long time. That your wife divorced you and that you had been pining for a long time. He also said…” You cleared your throat and swallowed. “That you had chosen me.”
He looked at you through his lashes, looking apprehensive. “Can… can we discuss this later? Somewhere private?”
“Come to my house after school. We’ll talk, okay?”
He nodded, looking self-conscious, turned, and jogged away, dodging his fan club and ducking into the Arts building.
Later that night, you paced in your living room, waiting for him to arrive. When you heard his car pull up, it took every ounce of willpower to not dash outside.
When he knocked, you opened the door to find him holding flowers and a gift bag.
Oh god.
“I figured if the cat was out of the bag, I might as well try,” He said. “Here.” He handed you the flowers, which were your favorites, and the bag. Inside was a book.
“Someone wrote a book about me,” He said. “Well, about me and my brothers. It was written while we were sleeping, so there’s a little missing, but I’m happy to fill in the blanks.”
“I don’t like that you hid this from me,” You said as you moved aside to let him in.
“I’m sorry,” He said. “I didn’t mean to hide it. Most people don’t look that closely. You’re the first person to see my true self.”
“That’s not entirely true,” You said. “I only saw an outline, a shadow.” You folded your arms. “So show me the real you. I want to take a good look.”
He took a deep, calming breath, and his body shimmered. His head elongated, black fur sprouted from his neck up, trailing down his spine and the middle of his chest. His normal modern clothes disappeared and the traditional gathered skirt of ancient Egypt appeared around his waist, ending at the knee. His eyes were silver and had markings around them. He wore no crown, but there were markings where a crown might have once sat.
“Is this what you saw?” He asked. Like his father, his mouth did not move when he spoke. Instead, his voice came from all around you.
“Something like it, yes,” You confirmed.
“Are you frightened?” He asked hesitantly.
“No,” You replied. “I’ve had time to come to terms with it. I think I’d be more freaked out if you had sprung it on me out of nowhere, maybe.”
“See? What else was I to do but keep it to myself?” He said in exasperation.
“I guess I see your point,” You admitted. “But no more secrets, okay? There’s nothing I hate more than people keeping secrets from me.”
“If that’s so, then… there’s one more thing I must confess,” He said slowly.
“I think I know what it is,” You said, bracing yourself. “But I’d like to hear you say it.”
He cleared his throat and stood tall. “I have become… enamored with you. I don’t know when it started, but it came to me quickly. Perhaps it was because you didn’t fall into worship of me, as others have done. As gods, it is humankind’s natural inclination to bend the knee to us, but you did not. Perhaps it was your patience with me and my multitude of questions. Perhaps it was the extent of your knowledge. Perhaps it was all of those things. But I care for you. I do not expect you to return my feelings, but I would wish to remain close to you, in whatever form you desire. Friend, companion, lover. It is your decision.”
You laughed a little. “That’s a hell of a declaration. I mean, you haven’t even kissed me yet.”
He looked startled. “Is that something you wish?”
“I don’t know.” You moved closer, considering him. “Are you any good at it?”
He took your hands. “Well… it has been some time. I may be out of practice.”
“Give it your best shot,” You challenged.
His lips curled into a smile, and he pulled you into an embrace. Tall as he was, he had to bend to reach your lips. His kiss was light, but experienced, and he lingered for many minutes. When he pulled away, you were seeing stars.
“How was my technique?” He asked playfully.
You shook your head to stop it from spinning. “More than adequate,” You chuckled. “You’re not quite as rusty as you claim.”
“Ah, that’s good to hear,” He said, and kissed you again.
You weren’t sure how the two of you made it into your bedroom, but suddenly there you were, the bed right next to you. You began shedding clothes and pulled at the belt that gathered the skirt at his waist. It fell into a pile at his feet, and he stepped out of it, lifting you into the air and setting you gently down onto the bed.
You began to shake a little. You hadn’t had a serious partner before and while this wasn’t your first time, the sex you’d had before hadn’t been as… significant as this was turning out to be. Were you going to fast? You’d known him for months but it was only in the last few days that you’d known he was carrying a torch for you. It had been a lot to process, and still was. Were you rushing into it?
He seemed to feel you tense. “Are you alright?”
“I…” You struggled to find the right words and not sound insulting. “I feel like we’re moving to quickly? I’m not even sure how I feel, and we’re already in bed with each other. I just… feel…”
“Rushed?” He said. “It’s alright, I understand. This was a lot to lay on you at once. We can stop.”
“That’s just it, I don’t know if I want to stop. I don’t know if I want to keep going. I don’t even know for sure how I feel about you, or the situation. I feel really overwhelmed.”
“It’s alright,” He said. “Why don’t we just lay here for a while and be still and give you some time to find your bearings. I can leave you to think for a while, if you’d like.”
“No. No, stay,” You said. “Just turn off the light and let’s be quiet for a little while. I just want to think.”
“Of course,” He said, reaching for the lamp switch. The two of you were bathed in darkness. He lay next to you, and you allowed him to put his arm around you. You put your head on his chest and listened to his slow heartbeat. It was strangely reassuring: you almost expected him to not have a heartbeat at all.
At some point you must have fallen asleep. He still lay with you, his body illuminated in the moonlight, slightly propped up on the pillows, watching you sleep. He smiled when he saw you rouse.
“Good evening,” He said quietly.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to doze off,” You said.
“It’s no problem. I actually rather enjoyed it. You’re very cute when you’re asleep.”
“Don’t be silly,” You said, smacking his chest.
“I’m not!” He chuckled. “You make very adorable noises.”
“Hush, you!” You said, tickling his side.
“Hey, hey!” He exclaimed, squirming away. “Don’t do that!”
“Oh, is the big, bad god ticklish?” You asked playfully, dodging his arms and going in for more tickles. “Is he? Is he ticklish?”
“No!” He cried, trying to wiggle out of your grasp, whimpering like a puppy. “I shall retaliate if you don’t cease!”
“Oh yeah?” You taunted. “Whatcha gonna do about it, big man? Sniff me to death?”
“I may just!” He said, putting his muzzle in your ear and sniffling.
“Ah!” You squealed. “It’s so cold!”
“You like that?!” He said, tickling you back and pressing his nose to your neck. “Have some more, then!” He licked at your neck and shoulders. He grabbed your hands and held them above your head as you wiggled underneath him.
At some point, the mood shifted. The weight of his naked body on top of your naked body was exhilarating and made your heart race. His licks slowed and went from playful to deliberate and were interspersed with open mouthed kisses. He let go of your hands and touched your body. You instinctively pulled your knees up and wrapped them around his waist, holding him close by the back of his head and petting down the fur of his spine.
“Is this alright?” He asked heavily, breathing hard.
“Yes,” You whispered in reply. “Yes.”
Some more minutes of touching and kissing and licking later, he reached between the two of you and rubbed his knuckles on your clit, making you moan against his lips. He rubbed himself and you at the same time, then pushed the tip against your entrance, gently pushing himself inside of you. Your head fell back onto the pillow, your mouth wide open, your brows furrowing. He was thick and long, but no so that it was painful. You whimpered as he inched all the way inside and pulled out slowly, thrusting inward and pulling outward.
Slowly, but with gaining speed, your bodies moved together. Wordlessly, he flipped you so that you were on your stomach and pulled you toward him, reentering you and thrusting vigorously, while you gripped the sheets desperately, crying out in pleasure. You bit the pillow and shut your eyes as you felt the ecstasy well up in you, your inside walls clenching and contracting. He huffed and grunted above you, gripping your hips as your bodies smacked together over and over.
You could feel beads of his sweat dripping onto your back as he sped up again, groaned loudly, and spilled himself into you, gushing out with each jerk of his hips against your body. When he was spent, he withdrew and fell sideways as to not crush you. You lay on your stomach for a few moments, allowing yourself to catch your breath and cool down, before turning over and sliding into his arms. You’d change the sheets tomorrow.
“I hope this means you accept me,” He said sleepily.
“I always accepted you,” You said. “I just wasn’t sure what I wanted my role to be in all this. I’m still not sure. I think starting with a date might be nice.”
“Of course,” He said. “Anything you want. I am your humble servant, at your beck and call.”
“You’re not my servant,” You said firmly. “And I’m not yours. We’re partners or we’re nothing at all.”
“I understand,” He said, turning on his side. “So, my partner, where would you like to go for this date?”
“I don’t know,” You said. “This’ll be your first date on the mortal plane, won’t it? Do what you love to do: research it.”
He laughed. “That sounds like fun.”

Word count: 2563 (I’m sorry, I really don’t know how this happened)
Summary: One day AU. Post-war. Since The Battle of Hogwarts, Draco and y/n meet one day a year.
Masterlist
3 May, 2001
(Y/N) and Draco apparated in the kitchen of a beach house in Playa del Carmen, México. Even though their abode was protected by a fidelius charm, they arrived at the break of dawn to avoid any sort of attention. (Y/N) walked through the airy living room and stood just in front of the wall sized window that lead to the beach. She stared in awe at the clear sand and the crystalline waters that stretched to infinity. This was their own private paradise for a week. Draco hugged her from behind and rested his chin on her head.
“It’s impressive, isn’t it?” he asked, absolutely taken by the view.
“It is, Dray,” she answered as she put her hands softly over his.
They had chosen a tropical destination mainly because Draco wanted to prove to her that he could tan. Upon hearing this, Blaise offered them his house in that vibrant Caribbean town. It had belonged to one of his – many – late stepfathers and nobody had used it in years, but it was well kept, modern and safe from noisy muggles and nosy wizards and witches. Blaise thought he was playing cupid by giving them the keys and Draco was both flustered and annoyed as he wiggled his eyebrows at them. (Y/N) had laughed it off, which confused Draco immensely.
He fell on a loop, overthinking for the thousandth time what could her laugh possibly mean. Was it meant to be playful? Did it mean she thought the possibility of them together was outrageous? What if it wasn’t, though? He definitely fancied her. He had fancied her even before holding her in his arms was a possibility. But he had blown up so many things in his life before. Everything he touched turned to dust. He was convinced he wasn’t good enough for her and he loved her too much to lose her friendship. If (Y/N) told him she was willing to start a relationship with him, he wouldn’t know what to do. Had been stuck in this hypothetical dilemma for the longest time and it was frustrating. He was pulled out of his thoughts by (Y/N), who shuffled in his embrace. She turned around so carefully his arms never left her waist. Her hands wrapped around his neck. Her fingers played with the little strands of hair on the nape of his neck.
Draco’s grey hues met (Y/N)’s mesmerizing (eye colour) ones. He smiled softly. She smiled back, but he noticed her features were dampened with concern.
“What’s wrong, Dray?”
He tightened the grip around her and offered her a smirk. “It’s nothing, (Y/N/N). I was just thinking.”
“Alright, then,” she answered, not very convinced, “why don’t we go to the beach?”
...
Draco discarded his turtleneck and trousers. Standing in his boxers in the middle of the room, he held at arm length the swimming trunks Harry had taken him to buy. They were just a looser version of his briefs, made of a dreadful material Draco had never even heard of. What, in Merlin’s name, was polyester? He scrunched his nose in disgust, but quickly scrambled into them as he heard (Y/N) knocking at the door.
They had tacitly agreed to sleep in the same room. She had barricaded herself in the bathroom to put on her own swimming suit. He wondered what she’d wear. At the muggle store he went with Harry, Draco had seen a bunch of items for women. He had gotten flustered, imagining (Y/N) in one of those. And he was getting hot and bothered again. He let himself fall, face down, onto the bed. “I’m ready,” he said, his voice muffled.
He heard the door opening and her footsteps as she came back into the room. She chuckled lightly as she saw him on his stomach, his face hidden in his hands. (Y/N) did a double take on him before he stood up. His arse looked amazing and his back was incredibly toned. The black trunks made a nice contrast with his incredibly pale skin. She bit her lower lip and looked away, trying to dissipate those thoughts and the tingling in her stomach. As her gaze settled out of the window, at some point in the horizon, Draco decided to move. His eyes rested on (Y/N)’s figure.
Nothing, not even his wildest dreams, would’ve prepared him for the sight of (Y/N) on an emerald green swimming suit. It was the least clothes he had ever seen on her and he just couldn’t tear his eyes away. Salazar, coming here alone with her could either be the best or worst idea ever.
(Y/N) felt his eyes glued on her and blushed profusely. She then faced him. For a minute there neither of them knew what to do. (Y/N) took a deep breath, walked forward and intertwined her fingers with his. Then she practically dragged him out of the house and into the sea.
They spent all day under the sun. They swam, splashed each other and walked by the seashore. They sat under the sun for a while, enjoying the salt on their skins until it turned too hot and overwhelming. Then they moved to the porch, staring at the sea and checking each other out when they thought the other was distracted.
Throughout the day, (Y/N) noticed how Draco would stare at his left forearm for the longest time. At first, she would bring his attention to something else and they would goof around or talk. At lunchtime, though, Draco put on a sweater with sleeves so long they reached his fingertips. It was a horrible sweater, so out of character for Draco, and it looked even more outrageous given the weather that had her bones sweating.
“You’ve got to be kidding me, Dray.”
He hung his head, defeated. “I…”
“No need to explain, love. I know it’s hard. But this,” she pushed the left sleeve up and Draco winced, but she continued, “this is part of your story. This is part of what has brought you here. And you have to accept it. Just like every other wonderful little bit of you. You need to live with this and forgive yourself, Dray”
Draco nodded, fighting off tears. (Y/N) took his face in her hands and give him a kiss on both cheeks. He smiled softly and took the sweater off. They cooked lunch together. Draco had been trying to learn how to cook for himself. So far he had managed to master a decent number of recipes and techniques. Cooking and baking reminded him of potions class and he loved it.
After lunch, they sat down on the sofa. There was a lot of space in the living room and yet, (Y/N) sat in between Draco’s legs, her back pressed to his chest, her head on his shoulder…a position much too familiar for them.
“I want to stay like this forever,” he said quietly, bringing her closer to him.
“Me too. I really don’t want to go back,” she answered, closing her eyes.
“We don’t have to,” he offered.
“I do. I have work to do.”
Draco sighed in response. “What is it that you do at the Ministry? What’s so important that you can’t enjoy more than one week of vacations?”
“A copious amount of paperwork,” she groaned. The Ministry was going through a series of reforms that took a lot of time and effort to put in practice. Hermione was ecstatic. (Y/N) knew it was all worth it, but she would be lying if she said her work hadn’t turned monotonous over the last few months.
“That sounds absolutely inspiring,” he said, sarcasm seeping through his every word. (Y/N) chuckled and hit his arm playfully.
“I thought you wanted to become a writer,” he added as an afterthought. (Y/N) blushed, feeling a bit exposed. She kept writing and Draco knew that. There was something painful about her writing, though. It was much too raw and took her back to pain and suffering. At times, whenever she sat down to write, the whole ordeal would leave her in tears. She couldn’t bring herself to be as consistent as before. She didn’t even want to contemplate the possibility of making a living out of it.
“It’s still an idea…” the vagueness in her voice made Draco regard her seriously. He pushed her just slightly so they could – kind of – face each other. (Y/N) tried to divert her gaze, but he put his hand on her cheek and made her look at him. Draco had expressive eyes. This time they were full of concern.
“(Y/N/N), is this because of money? Because I can –“
(Y/N) shook her head. She wouldn’t even let him finish. “I don’t need your money, Dray. You know that’s not the issue.” She wanted to turn the page, change topics as soon as possible, but Draco was not having any of it. They talked about his issues. He opened up to her and she would always offer words of comfort, support and cuddles. He wanted to do the same for her. He noticed how sometimes she would just close up, isolate herself. She’d try to brush her problems off. But he wouldn’t let her do that, not this time, not again.
“Then what’s the issue, (Y/N)?” he kept his hand on her cheek, knowing very well (Y/N) would try to escape, shrug it off and distract him. He then saw her eyes filling with tears. It was his moment to inch forward and shower her in affection.
“I’ve been involved in dangerous situations since I’m a toddler, Draco. My life at school consisted in avoiding death year after year. I can’t stay put. I need to feel like I’m doing something that’s bigger than myself. I need that rush.”
Draco’s fingers caressed her cheek. She was indecipherable at times. He knew there was much more than what she led on, but he didn’t want to push her.
“Besides, I don’t want to be alone with my thoughts more than what’s necessary,” (Y/N) muttered to herself, avoiding his gaze once again.
Draco was so close he heard clearly. He felt his heart tearing, just like that night, three years ago, when she had whispered to him and only him that she was broken. He made her face him again and, without a second thought, Draco leaned in. They both closed their eyes as their lips touched. It was a ghost of a kiss, tender and soft. It was everything they wished for and so much more; it felt natural and so, so good.
...
By the time (Y/N) and Draco reached the bedroom, they had left a trail of clothing behind them. They kissed and giggled and caressed each other. Her legs were wrapped around his torso, fingers laced in his blond locks. His own hands made their way through her back, trying to unclasp her bra.
After their kiss, they had cuddled all afternoon. They hadn’t mentioned it again and they were both determined to leave it at that. That was, of course, before they decided to go to a muggle bar and get tipsy with margaritas. When they came back, their drunken laughter filled the whole house. As the alcohol pumped through their veins they both felt bolder and uninhibited. The rush clouded their minds and ridded them of any sort of judgement.
(Y/N) stole their first drunken kiss. They were sprawled on the floor playing a game of strip wizard chess. Every time one of them lost a piece, they had to take an item of clothing off. As Draco slid his shirt off, (Y/N) crawled to him and kissed him. He growled lowly as his best friend bit his lower lip and they both felt the heat raising in the pit of their stomachs. He wanted her then and there, even more when she was being such a tease. As she laughed and tried to go back to her side, Draco caught her by the waist and pulled her back to him.
Draco tried to place (Y/N) in bed, but he was so woozy he fell with her. After laughing for their clumsiness, they laid on their sides, facing each other. Draco put a strand of hair behind (Y/N)’s ear. She traced his features with her fingertips. As she did so, he closed his eyes, enjoying her caresses as always.
(Y/N) found Draco absolutely beautiful. She was nothing short of in love with him. As that thought downed on her, (Y/N)’s desire stopped burning her. She lost momentum and withdrew her hand. She didn’t want this to be a spurt of the moment, drunken mistake. She wanted to be with Draco. Circe! She wanted to be with Draco. She was in love with him. (Y/N) sat up. How would this realization change their dynamic?
Draco opened his eyes immediately. The loss of contact had sobered him up. Had she realized he was a tosser who wasn’t worth her affection? Was it because of the mark? He sat up as well, searching for her eyes. The look he gave her was so full of mortification that she enveloped him in a hug.
“Dray…” she said after a few minutes of a deafening silence, “I don’t want this to be a one-night type of thing. I want to…be with you. I’d love to be with you. But it would break my heart if tomorrow we wake up and we realize that’s not what you…”
Draco’s gears were turning in his head. He felt as though he would combust right then and there. He took her face in his hands for the second time that day and looked at her in the eyes.
“(Y/N/N), what we have is way too pure, too good to be true. It’s the best thing I have going on for me, the best friendship I’ve ever had. I don’t want to ruin it as I tend to do with everything. I prefer to be your friend forever than your boyfriend for a couple of months. I want to think of you as my soulmate destined to be my best friend than a girlfriend I’ll end up hurting.”
(Y/N) fought back tears. “But I love –“
“I wouldn’t be able to handle it, love. If we broke up…if I fucked this up…if we didn’t want to see each other again”
They were both crying now. The silence was unbearable. (Y/N) kissed Draco on both cheeks before giving him a peck on the lips. Then she stood up, determined to not share a bed with him anymore.
…
(Y/N) closed her eyes. She decided to sleep on the farthest room she could find. Luckily enough, Blaise’s house was huge, so she had plenty to choose from. She had been trying to fall asleep for about an hour now, but she just couldn’t. The weight of her realization was drowning her. Then there was Draco’s rejection. She didn’t even want to begin addressing that issue.
A knock on the door interrupted her train of thoughts.
“Can I come in?” Draco’s voice was hoarse and a bit unsure.
No response.
“(Y/N), can I come in?” he almost pleaded.
“Yes,” she breathed out.
Draco rushed into the room. In three strides he was looming over her form, eyes imploring for forgiveness. (Y/N) sighed. She lifted up the covers. Draco slithered in the bed and pressed his body to hers. They were soon cuddling again.
“You don’t ruin things, Dray.”
(Y/N) wanted to add that he would never hurt her, but kept quiet.
“I love you, (Y/N/N).”
“Love you, Dray.”

Languages Spoken: English, Latin, French, Italian, German (incl. Swiss, Austrian and Bavarian German), Spanish, Portuguese
Educational Background: Institut Le Rosey, Harvard University, John Hopkins University
Occupational History:
1. Intern / Political Assistant at Capitol Hill (2002-06)
2. Representative for Maryland’s 2nd District (2006 special election — 2010)
3. Junior Senator for Maryland (2010-2016)
4. 45th President of the United States of America (20th January, 2017—)
Achievements: Youngest and first female president of the United States; shortest initiation in Society history. If I listed her political achievements we’d be here a while, folks.
THE SOCIETY ;
Codename: Adrasteia
Meaning: Adrasteia means “the inescapable,” which I chose as her label. It’s another name for Nemesis, the goddess of divine retribution, which i found quite fitting because she’s always managed to rise above people and attain what she wants, even if it is through using her parents’ money and power to her advantage at least in part. And now she’s the defender of the free world, in the most powerful office in the world — don’t make an enemy of the inescapable, for the inescapable will always get you.
Traditionalist or Reformist: Leah struggles to shoe-horn herself into either camp, but she supposes in general due to her own ideas that she’s some kind of reformist, even if that reform doesn’t include party islands and hedonistic displays. She prefers more power for women within the Society; more space for non-established families and for people to get in on their talent alone.
Goals In The Society: Her own advancement. To make her rowdy siblings see their own potential, and perhaps find a bond with them that feels less like she’s that cousin you don’t see often and don’t know very well. Ultimately, to be the Grand Archon, where she can make the most positive change. To use the Society to get rid of the Twenty-Second Amendment so she has more time to create further equally positive change for America.
Opinion On The Society: It’s something she was always meant to be part of, but something that needs to be tweaked to fit the time that it’s in. Some people’s definition of ‘tweak’ is too far, but ultimately the most important thing is that she’s in it. Certainly she values it as an honour.
PERSONALITY ;
MBTI: ENTJ-A
Enneagram: Eight, with a Seven wing
Temperament: Choleric
Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Inspirations: Birgitte Nyborg (Borgen) | Kidz & SOS (Take That songs, inverse) | Peggy Carter (Marvel Cinematic Universe) | Official Secrets (film)
Tropes: The Ace, Armour-Piercing Question, America Saves The Day, The Chessmaster, Contemplative Boss, Married To The Job, Workaholic, Badass In Charge, Brainy Brunette, Deadpan Snarker, Iron Lady
YOUR MUSE AS ;
A piece of art: The Kiss by Gustav Klimt
A song: Under The Ladder by Mélovin
A book: How To Use Your Enemies by Baltasar Gracián
A movie: Official Secrets
A TV show: Borgen
A historical era: Ancient Greece if she had to choose one, but she’s more one to look to the future than the past.
A historical figure: Artemisia of Caria
A colour: Royal blue
An animal: Lioness (she’s got the name for a reason.)
YOUR MUSE’S DREAM ;
JOB: She’s sat in the Oval Office, folks, she’s doing it.
VACATION: Leontine doesn’t have time for vacations, especially not if she’s attending Society events, but if she did, she’d like to go to the Acropolis.
DAY: One day where Bo and Elise are calm; getting to go on a real date with Ivy and be proud of it.
AS A CHILD: To be President of the United States.
LAST NIGHT: I can’t tell you, because she didn’t sleep long enough to reach the appropriate stage and dream.
THAT THEY GAVE UP ON: She’s never given up on a dream. Never once, not unless she realises it was wrong in the first place. She’s not someone who gives up.
THAT THEY HAVE RIGHT NOW: Constitutional change; getting her siblings into the Society
BIOGRAPHY ;
TWELVE years — that was how long Leontine Artemisia was the sole daughter of Kenneth and Candace Morgan, but also how long it took them to forget why. Through generations of the Morgan bloodline the same issue had persisted; a work-ethic that was either partly or entirely based upon an unattainable ideal of perfection.
Which, in itself, led to relationships like the parents’ own. Lacking in healthy emotional expression ( particularly on the side of the born Morgan, less so in his softer-hearted wife ) and with at least some business element regarding a ‘practical’ or ‘advantageous’ match. It wasn’t an arranged marriage, not quite, as they had found each other — mostly — alone, but neither could it be said to be a ‘love match’ the likes of which fill the daydreams of any hopeless romantic.
And then, from there, they hadn’t realised how it would impact any child of theirs until it was too-little, too-late to do anything about it. When the nifty Morgan motto had already taken hold, dug itself into the young girl, going deeper with every comment Kenneth made about how she could be ‘better,’ or ‘how do you expect to be like me or your grandfather?’
It became Candace’s — being the far more empathetic parent, the one who was there when Leah fell and who had attached herself to her first-born in a way she would not attach quite the same with inevitable additions — goal to get her as far away from her husband’s influence as possible, so that she might have half a chance at coming fully into her own. Except, prior to achieving that goal, the terrors ( I’m sorry, the twins, but they were, and are, terrors ) came into the trio’s lives, and Leah was both no longer alone, and more alone than ever.
Which suited her fine, or at least she said it did. After all, she was still her mother’s favourite, anyone could see it. Could feel it, where Kenneth had turned his attention to the young babes to see which child would offer him the legacy he craved; because Leah’s goal — politics; the highest seat in the land, even then, regardless if she had to claw her way up there with her nails or not — didn’t particularly interest him at the time ( Morgan Financial needed an heir, and he was consistently frustrated at his eldest daughter’s disinterest ) and would interest him even less after she came back with European ideas from her next destination: the Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland, where she would meet a whole host of future A-Listers and members of the Society, including one Étienne de Polignac.
When she returned from Le Rosey at the age of eighteen, her next destination was already settled: the famed Harvard University, to study political science. Of course, she could be nothing but the hardest worker, something she would not let her university boyfriend — as much as she loved him at the time — get in the way of; it was clear Kenneth’s message had gotten through to her ( too well, as she would never feel good enough, always striving to impress him, when it was impossible ) when she chose career over her love life upon graduation.
Because from a young age she had set her eyes upon the White House desk, organised her life around that ultimate dream; pursued law and civics, and abandoned the healthy social lives of others her age. While other members of her family could have been considered high-society socialites, all she knew was her own ambition. Quickly Leah herself became the pedestal for her siblings to follow — except, not her politics, as Kenneth would indicate by sending the twins to Phillips Exeter rather than Le Rosey — and was a point of pride when her parents decided she ought to go to public events; after all, she had to learn how to relate to people, didn’t she? Her first motto, and a tattoo she has that’s always hidden by her clothing, is: change your stars, if you try, you’ll succeed.
Leontine moved to Maryland after Harvard, where she worked as a political advisor at Capitol Hill for one of the Democratic representatives ( whilst balancing a second degree, in international relations, at Johns Hopkins University due to its proximity to Capitol Hill ) until she was of constitutional age to stand for election in the House. She won Maryland’s second district — rather than standing in her birth / home state of Kentucky — and then, upon turning thirty, became the junior senator for the state; however, these early political years were all overshadowed by one event: the war in Iraq, with which she vehemently disagreed, and which has continued to influence her strong anti-war stance throughout the rest of her political career.
‘The rest’ of her political career including her run for President in the 2016 election, resulting in the thirty-six year old defeating Republican nominee Donald Trump in the most resounding fashion since the Nixon landslide. And even then the opponent managed to win Massachusetts; not so here.
She grew up privileged, of course she did, and she’s found her balance between being at peace with and being very aware of what led her to where she is today: the Oval Office, the young trailblazer wherever she went. Leah Morgan’s ‘brand’ is record-breaking, perhaps ( after all, she very quickly charmed people to her favour to admit her into the society as a 25-year-old initiate, a Societal record that still to this day stands. )
Leah’s mother Candace, however, was killed in a ‘car crash’ last Thanksgiving, a tragedy which she has not processed; she hasn’t any understanding of how to deal with grief — none of the Morgans do — so, at some point, it’s all going to come back to her.
But she was raised on ‘this is good, but you can always do better,’ and that shows more than anything in this woman with a lot of dreams and even more ambition.

Questionable Career Path
"I'll go to the morgue." Gail raised her hand as Sam asked for volunteers. "Never too late to learn about medical jurisprudence." She said as the brunette forensic pathologist looked up and smiled at her.
After a few weeks of getting to know each other, and Holly solidifying her spot at the top of Gail's chart of people she could tolerate, the brunette was invited to join their (Dov's) trivia team at the Black Penny.
"Holly! Finally! We need someone smart to help us!" Dov said excitedly as she walked over to their table, everyone else a few drinks in already.
"Hey!" Gail said, wholeheartedly offended as she smacked Dov's shoulder and then glared at Holly when she heard a snort from the brunette.
"Please, Gail. You hate trivia and you know it. You don't even listen to the questions." Dov responded as Chris nodded along.
"Why would I? They're ruining my perfectly good scotch." She retorted, scooting closer to Holly as the brunette sat down.
"You want a drink, Hol?" She asked more quietly, once the group returned to talking amongst themselves.
"Yes, please. I'll have what you're having." She said, patting Gail's thigh as the blonde nodded and went to the bar, careful not to offer to get anything for anyone else.
The two had been getting consistently closer, but had not taken the plunge and gone out on a date yet, though Gail was starting to really question just how much she enjoyed Holly's company and the brunette in general.
When the blonde made her way back to the table she chimed in on the conversation quickly as Dov was talking about his soulmate yet again.
"She lost another instruction guide to a new game she must've bought." He said proudly as Gail fake gagged.
Holly thanked her for the drink, grabbing it with one hand, while lightly tapping Gail's thigh with her other hand.
"Be nice! I think it's sweet."
"You would, lunchbox."
Whenever someone lost something that remained lost for more than 24 hours, the object was deposited in their soulmate's room somewhere-usually on a desk or bed. The soulmate was allowed to get rid of the objects, but most people kept their soulmate's belongings for when they finally met. For the most part, people tried not to lose too much because there was no telling how long it would be before you got it back. Everyone managed to lose something, whether big or small, and if anyone ever lost an article with their name on it, like a license, it stayed lost forever and never reached their soulmate.
"It's better than what poor Gail's soulmate must have at his house." Dov fired back.
"What, my will to play this trivia game?" She said as Chris laughed happily, Holly sitting next to her with a smirk, shaking her head.
"That and about five pairs of handcuffs since I've known you." Chris spoke up as Dov raised his bottle in agreement.
"Oh, they'll have many more pairs than that, Christopher. I've been misplacing handcuffs since I was a young Peck." Gail retorted, Holly pleasantly surprised to hear the lack of pronoun she responded with.
"Have you really?" Holly asked, pushing the glasses up further on her nose.
"Sure have. My parents are both cops, so I've possessed-and sometimes lost-my pair of handcuffs since I was probably 8 years old."
"I still don't understand how you lose them so often." Dov said with the shrug of his shoulders.
"Eh, whatever. There's always more and someone around will also have handcuffs. It's not like I try to lose them though. Sometimes they get caught on things and I don't know they're gone until later. I'm sure my soulmate also has about 80 hair ties and my really nice black leather boots that I lost last year."
"How did you lose both boots?" Holly asked with a grin.
"Don't ask." Chris added, rubbing his hand across his forehead.
"There may have been a drunken scene somewhere. But hey, I managed to keep my half-dozen donuts that night. So who is the real winner?"
"Peck will never lose food." Dov said with a snort.
"It could be hour 23 and I'll still be looking for those Cheez-It's." Gail confirmed as everyone chuckled.
"If only she did the same for poor Tippy." Andy added from across the table.
"Don't you dare." Gail said, somewhat seriously.
"Who is Tippy?" Dov asked as Holly just began shaking her head.
"I think the correct word would be 'was.' Who was Tippy, Gail?" Andy goaded her on, smiling as the blonde flipped her off readily.
"Since you seem so interested in her, why don't you talk about the great Tippy." The shortest officer bit back as Andy just continued to smile at her.
"Tippy was Gail's hamster when she was like 12 years old. She let her out one day and then forgot she had let her out."
"I was 12!"
"You probably did it on purpose!" Chris exclaimed as everyone burst into laughter.
"Listen, that bastard bit me, it's not like I followed around after her whenever she was out of her cage. But then it was dinner time and I forgot about her." The blue-eyed woman shrugged as she brought her drink to her mouth.
"Gail! You're too much." Holly spoke softly, only fondness in her voice.
Another four days passed before the two were both free and able to make plans with each other.
They had decided to do a dinner and movie night, which Holly had offered her house up to. As Gail knocked on the door at 7:02pm, she got suddenly more nervous as her feelings for Holly had been intensifying over the past few weeks that they'd gotten to know each other more.
"Gail, hey! Come on in. Dinner is just finishing up in the oven. Can we talk for a minute though first?" Holly spewed out quickly as soon as she opened the door.
"Holly, hi. Sure thing." The officer walked in, took off her jacket, and then set the bottle of scotch on the kitchen island. "What's up?"
"It might be easier for me to just show you, if that's okay?" The brunette asked softly, pushing up her glasses slowly.
"Lead the way, Hol." Gail added with a quirk of her head as she followed Holly to her office.
"So I'd kind of had an inkling, but it was confirmed the other night. I just wanted to show you some things I've found over the years." Holly said smoothly as she looked away from Gail's gorgeous blue eyes and picked up the box that was on the floor, putting it on her desk.
"Holly." Gail whispered suddenly, her heart pounding.
"I think you'll recognize some of these things." The brunette said with a smirk as she pulled out at least 8 different pairs of handcuffs, most of them silver, but the occasional black one interspersed.
The blonde stepped forward quietly, grabbing one of the pairs in her hand before stepping closer to the box to see multiple hair ties everywhere, her beloved boots, and a rogue bottle of blonde hair dye that she'd also lost in a drunken adventure.
"I was hoping it was you." The blonde said softly as she set the handcuffs back down and shrugged as tears filled her eyes, able to be honest with herself for the first time.
"It's me." The brunette said back happily as she stepped forward, opening her arms to embrace Gail as the shorter woman walked into her body firmly, wrapping her arms around Holly tightly.
"Can I kiss you, Holly?" She asked nervously after about a minute and a half of hugging.
"I'd be disappointed if you didn't." The forensic pathologist said jokingly, though somewhat serious.
Gail just shook her head with a smile as she gently placed her hands on Holly's cheeks and connected their lips for the first time.
"So that's what that's supposed to feel like, huh?" The blonde said once they'd broken apart, Holly smiling sweetly as she leaned in for another kiss.
"Did you think it was me before that night in the Black Penny?" Gail asked curiously as they were sat down eating dinner.
"I had hoped it was. And I think I kind of knew, but I didn't know for sure. Let me tell you, when I met you it finally occurred to me that maybe my soulmate was a police officer instead of a prostitute." The brunette added seriously as Gail barked out a laugh.
"Are you serious? You thought I was a prostitute?"
"Well you lost a lot of handcuffs, Gail." The taller woman said with a big smile as the woman in front of her just shook her head.
"And I should have known that I was a lesbian when I got that duffle bag you lost like 15 years ago."
"I forgot about that thing! I lost it on the way back from science camp." Holly said fondly as Gail smiled at her with a sincere smile.
"Of course you did. It's in my closet at home." She said truthfully as Holly looked at her with a smirk.
"I thought I'd left the closet long ago." She winked as Gail just rolled her eyes.
"Glasses, a few flannels, a nerdy science book, and a cat stuffed animal. Such a lesbian." The blonde listed everything off without missing a beat.
"Lorraine was the best cuddle buddy. I miss that stuffed animal."
"Lorraine?" Gail asked as Holly nodded at her. "Well Lorraine has been my faithful companion for nearly 15 years."
"You still have her? Are you serious?" The brunette perked up even more.
"I sleep with her nearly every night. Don't repeat that to anyone. I'll deny it." Gail said, loving that her soulmate was someone she could be honest and free with, someone who didn't judge her for being herself.
"Wait. Did you find Tippy when I was 12?" Gail asked suddenly, sitting up when they were in the middle of their movie and pausing it before turning to look at Holly.
"I called her Daisy. She was amazing. She lived another 2 years after she showed up in my room. Pretty sure she took at least 2 years off my life though-she terrified me when she showed up out of the blue. Thanks for that."
"Hey, I'm here for you. Would you have enjoyed your life if you thought you had a normal soulmate?"
"Nope. It's been perfect, I wouldn't change a thing." Holly said truthfully as she pulled Gail back into her arms, smiling as the blonde made herself comfortable.

--- Techinques ---
Ninjutsu:
Hana is quite good when it comes to ninjutsu, her main element is earth and then wind, she has quite a handful of jutsus but she mostly uses her signature ones.
Techniques:
Jinsei no Uta: Meaning the song of life, one of Hana’s abilities she took after her mother was her beautiful voice, since she loved to sing she decided to have a use for it, so this song is a jutsu that she often uses after the battle is over. As you know, sometimes battles leave behind lots of destruction behind, with this jutsu Hana sings and the nature takes place, beautiful flowers bloom, the grass and the plants take over the bodies and the destruction of the battles and it turns everything into new life.
Hanabira no Odori: It’s a jutsu that consists in flower petals and a very strong wind, besides making the opponent not seeing well, the petals also cut at the touch.
Taijutsu:
Hana exceeds at Taijutsu, she has an incredible amount of speed and agility that makes things easier, but on the other side, her body can only take much, and her stamina isn’t great. In taijutsu she doesn’t’ stick to techniques, her style of fighting is very “free”.
Techniques:
Tsume dageki: She uses thorns to create some kind of spikes or even claws and she strikes the opponent down with it, it’s usually her final move.
Genjutsu:
Hana is not good at Genjutsu at all but there is one she can use. She used this genjutsu on Tomoe when he was almost dying due to a ambush in Kirigakure.
Techniques:
Amai Yume: Literally meaning sweet dreams, Hana sings a soft lullaby who relaxes the victim’s body and sends them into a deep sleep that makes them remind of their most happy memory. It’s a jutsu she developed in order to use it on herself when she couldn’t stop having nightmares and she needed rest but it didn’t quite work.
Kenjutsu:
Hana has a keen Kenjutsu, she doesn’t use it often but when she does you better run for your life, she mixes wind techniques along with it and her blades can cut clean at the distance of 15 meters.
--- Personal traits ---
Personality:
Since Hana’s mother died while giving birth to her, Hana’s dad became really attached to her and spoiled her in many ways possible. Because of that she grew up with that Hime personality of hers. She always acts like she is the confident girl she seems to be, a spoiled princess, but in fact she is a very insecure girl and is always sharpening her skills to never rely on anyone but herself. Her relationship with her team was also bad because of that and since she was left solo often she also grew up and strong. The only exception for the rule is: If she loves you, it’s the complete opposite, she may act cold and sassy at first but if you really grab her heart, she will go through hell and beyond for you but also aware that sometimes her spoiled princess personality will take the lead. She tends to cry a lot when she gets hurt emotionally and she is very hard to cheer up when she is sad.
Good traits: Hana is dominant, a natural leader, she is somewhat confident of her abilities and is very ambitious.
Bad traits: On the other side she has a very short temper, has a sharp mouth, tends to do things on her own, speaks without thinking.
Confidence/Self-esteem: Hana seems a very confident person and values herself above everyone when she is with other people but when she is alone she is too much aware of her many flaws.
Likes:
-foods and drinks: Hot chocolate and croissants
-colors: purple
-favourite animal: Guinea pigs
-what he/she likes to do in his/her free time: Take care of her flowers, walk around and take care of her guinea pigs.
Dislikes:
-foods and drinks: coffee and seafood
-colors: mustard yellow
-less favourite animal: snake
-what he/she doesn’t likes to do in his/her free time: procrastinate
Habits: When she is talking to other people she always seems to drive them away unconsciously and when she is nervous she laughs a lot.
Hobbies: As a hobby, she owns a flower shop that used to belong to her mother
Fears: Being completely alone, snakes, losing her father Insecurities: Hana is insecure when she starts to like someone friendly or romantically due to her harsh personality, she thinks that sometimes she might cross the line making the other party hate her.
Ambition: Her ambition is to be successful in life doing what she loves. Quotes: “I am whatever I want to be”, “If I say something with a serious look, don’t ever doubt that my feelings are true”
--- Relationships ---

Teammates/Ex-teammates: n/a
Relationship status: Taken Significant other: Souta Kobayashi
Best friend: n/a
Rival: Her family besides her father and brother Children: Yui Kobayashi Students: n/a Pets: n/a
Ai Himekawa:
Status: dead Nature of relationship: Mother
Hana never met her mother, she thinks she died when she gave birth to Hana, but the story is a lot more different. Ai died because secretly she was the last one that held the kekkei genkai of their clan who was sure to have ended, her sister planned to steal Hana from her since she was born with the kekkei genkai as well, but Ai didn’t agree to it and died while protecting her baby. When Akira entered the room, it was too late, but he managed to save Hana from Akane’s hands.
Akira Tanaka:
Status: alive Nature of relationship: Father
Hana’s relationship with her father is unbreakable, he would risk everything for her if she had to. She has always been a daddy’s girl, they used to be together all the time and he would give her anything she wished for. He did that mostly to fill in the whole left by his wife’s dad and he was afraid that he would lose Hana. Even if Hana grew up with that bad habit of talking like if she was superior, she never did such a thing with her father, she had a big amount of respect for him.
Tomoe Tanaka:
Status: Alive Nature of relationship: Step Brother
Akira before having Hana, he had a relationship with another woman back in Kirigakure, he fell in love with her and then she tricked him, leaving him and their son alone. Besides all that he found Ai and she immediately accepted Tomoe as a son. When Ai died, Tomoe was still young but he understood it all very well, besides everything he had to care for his precious sister so he left home back to Kirigakure and trained hard so he could protect his family, whenever he came back, Hana felt so happy that she would just cling to him all the time, and when he left back to Kirigakure, she would always cry and try to make him stay. Overall, they were also very close.
Akane Himekawa:
Status: Alive Nature of relationship: Aunt
Akane was Ai’s sister, she had always grown envious of her sister’s ability to have the kekkei genkai. Ai never used it once in her life, she was against it but Akane have always wanted it to achieve fame and fortune. That’s when she found the opportunity of using Hana to achieve that but failed her fist attempt. One day, when Hana was waiting for her dad at the academy, he was late, and her aunt appeared instead and took her, trying to take advantage of it, but her father realized and appeared before anything really bad happened. Hana growing up kept her distance from the Himekawa clan, it was a curse more often than a blessing and as soon she understood what her kekkei genkai was about, she swore to herself never to use it.
Souta Kobayashi:
Status: Alive Nature of relationship: Boyfriend/ Husband
Souta is Hana’s boyfriend and after her husband. First, they didn’t get along with each other since their personalities crashed a lot but soon after they met in very peculiar circumstances, when he practically saved her life, Hana felt quite bit of a spark between them and that was the moment she began to fall in love with him. When she realized she loved him, she honestly had no hope in that relationship, but still, she began wanting to see him more often, even if it was from afar and since the business was going well. Due to the accident in her mission she ended up 6 months in the hospital but as soon as she got out of there she decided to open a shop in Sunagakure. The one who helped her move there surprisingly was also Souta, Hana kept up with that façade personality of her but on the inside, she was very happy to have spent more time with him.
Souta’s visits to Hana always lightened up her mood, even if they sometimes ended up in some healthy arguments. Since Hana thought that relationship had nothing but friendship in it, she ended up giving up on her feelings, only to a few weeks later ended up caught in Souta’s sudden kiss and finally admitting that she loved him. The relationship was mutual. Soon after that their relationship went stable and the façade of them both had ended, and they finally were able to be a happy family.
Haru Misora:
Status: Alive Nature of relationship: Sensei
Haru was an old friend of Akira and Hana’s sensei, he was in charge of Hana since she had a really rough time socializing with other students and all her teams had gone wrong. He understood her above everything and was Hana’s first friend, he was the one who taught her Taijutsu and also helped her develop her signature jutsu. Haru had an important role on Hana’s life because when she had a health crisis, he tried to convince Hana to leave her ninja life, but she didn’t listen to him, that caused her to spend two whole years on the hospital and also for Haru to resign his position as her sensei.
--- Background & history ---
Childhood:
Hana was a very happy child raised by her father. It was only the two of them and they were extremely close. She was spoiled a lot by him and she grew up with the attitude of a very stubborn princess. Soon she met her big brother and they also became very close and they meat the world to her. The lack of female presence didn’t influence her being less feminine, on the contrary, she loved dresses and doing her hair more than anything. Her father gave her the things that belonged to her mother for Hana to follow her steps, due to that, she was constantly under pressure since she felt like her dad was expecting her to become exactly like her mother, other than that, she began her training and her dad often assisted her.
Gennin days:
Hana’s days as a gennin went well overall, she exceeded in her taijutsu and ninjutsu but her ability to resist genjutsu was a mess. But that didn’t stop her from being a good ninja. Everything was well until she was on a mission and she suddenly fell sick, she didn’t know what had caused it and it was not getting better at all, she had to suddenly go back to her village and she stayed in the hospital for about two weeks, they had discovered that Hana had a condition that was weakening her immune system so that prevented her to enjoy her gennin years but without her dad knowing she continued her training, Hana and her Sensei had a huge fight because she was caught training when she needed absolute rest and he refused to be her sensei any longer. That certainly was a shot in Hana’s heart, he was her only friend and now, the only person who understood her was gone.
Chuunin days: Hana’s chuunin days weren’t sweet at all, after she graduated, she began to take more than she could handle, she had this thing of training non-stop and taking every mission she could. In her head, she needed to get stronger and stronger but when she wasn’t with her mind full of those thoughts, she would often think that she wasn’t enough, that she wasn’t making her family proud and that she couldn’t be like her mother like everyone expected her to be. During that time, she had lots of breakdowns and would often shut herself out to the world.
One more thing happened during these days, she met a boy on a mission, a very handsome and charming one and he quickly complimented about her flowers. Surprisingly it was a boy from the Himekawa clan, he kept on and on and finally won the blonde’s heart only to break it into pieces shortly after. After that, Hana shut her heart to everyone who tried to approach her and was practically unreachable. To get away from everything and everyone she took on a long-term mission and came back nearly dead from it, maybe that what she would’ve wanted at that time but Tomoe reached her in time.
War Arc:
Hana didn’t participate in the war, she couldn’t because she was quite in bad shape and her condition had got a hold of her again. Because of that she went to orphanages to help the children and give self-defense lessons to them, besides preferring flowers and animals over humans, she always had a weakness for children, to her, they were like buds who would eventually grow into beautiful flowers.
The Last:
The last is the more complicated part of her life, she does her missions and has a flower shop as a hobby. Due to the flower shop she met Souta but since her rank was upgraded to a jounin she had to go more often on long term missions. One of those missions Souta saved her but still, that mission made Hana’s body fail and for 6 months she couldn’t leave bed or even her hospital room. But her brother stayed with her for the time being since her dad didn’t have that much time to. After she almost fully recovered she moved to Sunagakure, she had lots of time to think and needed something to distract her. Eventually her relationship with the grey haired boy turned out for the best even tough it was a difficult one and the two of them ended up together.
Epilogue/Cheapter 700+:
Hana gets settled, has a baby, gets married, everything is flowers <3

Hello! I read your Toshinori scenario and I'm blown away by your amazing writing and accurate representation!! Can I have a scenario of Toshinori being a worried and clingy boyfriend when his s/o comes back late (like 3 am late) because she went drinking with some old friends during a reunion?
aw thank you! sorry this is so late, school’s really beatin my ass rn lmao. also, i’ll be using gender neutral pronouns so everyone can enjoy it! enjoy
here’s the previous posts
word count: 2420
“Please leave your message for-”
“Shit..” Toshinori uttered.
This had been the third time he’d called his significant other and the third time it had gone to voicemail after listening to the dull tone on the opposite end. An anxious sigh escaped him as he stared down at the phone in his large hand. He wasn’t sure how much time had passed since his partner left but he knew they had been out entirely too long in his book. He wasn’t a boyfriend to become possessive and intrusive of their privacy, no! He trusted them as well as their choices because he knows they wouldn’t do anything to betray him. He knew they were fine and having fun with their friends. But there was something that kept telling him that something was wrong if they didn’t send him any quick messages or answer his calls. It made him worried. Very worried.
Being a hero was a tough job, of course he loved being able to protect the innocent and make sure they’re alright, but it also heightened his senses to know when something was wrong. It also made him think that something is always wrong too. That could just be his anxiety creeping up on him now that he thought about it.
“A-Alright.. I know they’re fine. I know that.” He breathed out, calming himself.
He repeated phrases of this sort - “It’ll be okay.” “They’re fine.” “They’re safe.” - under his breath to comfort himself. It became a soft mantra that soothed him little by little. There was no need to be as freaked out as he was. But he couldn’t help it either, with the things he’s seen, fought, talked to, and put in jail, there was a good reason for him to be worried. There could be a villainous attack with people getting hurt or buildings falling or cars crashing or fires starting or anything that could hurt them! Well, great. Now that’s all he could think about. The small moment of peace he was able to find had dissipated. Toshinori paced in front of the couch as he continued to think about the worst case scenarios and he didn’t even realize how deep he was diving into these negative thoughts. His eyes shot to the digital clock sitting on a nearby counter. Midnight.
The hero plopped down on the edge of the couch as he rest his elbows on his knees, covering his face with his hands then letting them slowly run down. The skin on his cheeks were slightly tugged down along with his hands. His hands remained in front of his mouth as he stared at the television screen in front of him. He was watching some random variety shows in order to pass the time and it worked for a while until he noticed how late it was getting. They had left only a few hours before, eight o’clock or so, and he managed to be fine with it for a majority of the time. They said they were with friends they hadn’t seen since high school for a mini reunion and he was comfortable with that. What was genuinely getting to him was how late it was, the fact their phone seemed dead, they were drinking, plus, he wasn’t sure when they’d come back home. On top of his embedded worry he didn’t want to seem like the type of person who would get over protective and manipulative over them either! It was almost frustrating.
Scratch that, it was frustrating. Unbelievably and annoyingly frustrating. He was by no means mad at his significant other nor the fact that they were having fun and he wouldn’t ruin for them whatsoever but he was mad at the fact that he couldn’t seem to get over the paranoia nagging at him as a hero. He huffed, drumming his fingers across one of his knees and staring at the television once again. Maybe watching the shows again would help him although he was doubting it at the same time. He thought of doing something else but then he couldn’t think of anything else to do, so, he stuck with watching the dumb late night shows. Certain guests were entertaining up until his eyes involuntarily flicked towards the digital clock shown on the cable box and he nearly fell off the damn couch.
“T-Two thirty in the morning!? How can the tv waste so much time..” He exclaimed, putting a hand to his forehead as he reached for his phone. He paused midway.
He really did not want to seem clingy or overbearing over his significant other but he felt the worry starting to consume him. His hand slowly retracted from the device on the coffee table as he looked down to the floor with another sigh leaving his lips. There were so many things to be worried over about but at the same time he could be absolutely worried about nothing at all. Then he heard a soft buzz from his phone and he jumped before diving for it, snatching it off the table immediately. He swiped his thumb across the screen, typed in his password, and stared at the notification at the top. After opening it, he felt relief flood throughout his body as it was a text message from the very person he’d spend the most of his night thinking about. They said they were leaving now and they’d be home in about thirty minutes or so. Then another message popped up as soon as he finished reading the first one claiming they’re getting a ride home from a friend they assigned as the designated driver. A smile crept up on him, he felt a bit proud that his s/o had thought that far if they were to drink too much.
One more message came up on screen.
“Heyyyyyyy Toshi~! Have i told u how much i luv u????? BC i REALL Y do.” He read. Wow, they must have been pretty drunk to be texting so oddly.
“Yes, you have. I love you too. I’ll be here when you get home.” He sent back. Now that the worry left, his body felt like it was full of lead and he had to sit back down on the couch, sliding down into a slumped in position.
Not too long later, his phone began to buzz again but this time in a longer and more consistent pattern. Who was calling him this late- or rather, this early? It left him dumbfounded for a moment before he lifted his phone up to read the name. He raised a brow when it was revealed to be his partner and he tapped the screen to answer the call, raising his phone to his ear. He was first greeted with the sound of giggling then small sniffs followed by more laughter mixed with soft sobs. There went his heart rate again. It spiked and he sat up straight, sputtering and fumbling over his own words for a moment. They shh’d him which just confused him as he listened to what he assumed was them trying to compose themself enough to speak.
“You really love me?” They asked. He felt his body become weighted with relief again as his back hit the couch.
“Yes! Of course I do.” He answered, laughing lightly at the sound of them crying harder. He didn’t mean to laugh, really, but he honestly thought it was a bit cute that they were crying over something as simple as their feelings for one another. “Are you almost home?” He asked.
“Yeeeaaaaah. I think so? Yeah. Yes. Yuup.” They seemed to have stopped crying already. “Definitely yeah! I see the.. The-the thing. What is it?” He could hear them speak to one of their friends and describing something even he couldn’t figure out. “It’s like.. Tall and bright.. And.. uh.. And tall!” He snickered. “Don’t you laugh at me Toshi! You nerd.” He could only snicker again. “Wait.. Do you mean that lamppost over there? The one with a plastic flower taped to it?” “YEAH HOLY SHIT THE LAMPPOST!” Now he totally lost it. He was holding his stomach, leaning over doubled with laughter. He felt a few tears prick the corners of his eyes as he gasped for air and in between each little breath he took, he tried to explain to his partner that they were just entirely too funny like this. Once he calmed down, he let out a cough, and find himself smiling like an idiot.
“Well, I’m glad you closer to home than I thought. Do you want to stay on the phone or hang up?” Toshinori offered as he knew they were only a few blocks away from home. The lamppost with the plastic little flower was a somewhat special place for the two. They had ran into each other there, met there for their first date, even shared their first itty bitty confession of feelings there too. He wasn’t sure how it all ended up happening in the same spot every time but he was glad they were able to have such memories. And every time he sees the lamppost with the flower, he’s always reminded of them. Whenever someone would take the flower down one day, it be back there the next. It was odd but cute.
“No, talk to me. I like it when ya talk.” They chuckled and he hummed, thinking of something to say.
“Hmm.. You know you nearly gave me a heart attack staying out so late. I’m not trying to lecture you or anything stupid like that. It worries me, seeing what I see, doing what I do. I’m just more than happy that you’re safe and seem to be in a great mood. It’s also made me realize you mean so much more to me than I even realized before and.. I can’t think of anything better that’s happened in my life than you.” He supposed it was a bit too sentimental to say when they’d most likely forget this the next day but it was also all the more reason to keep talking. He needed to get a bit off his chest. “You’re safe, you’re happy, you’re healthy. I can’t believe you were out so late too! Ahh, I know you wanted to be alone with your friends but I wish I could have gone with you to see what kind of drunk you are or see what kind of trouble you go into.” He chuckled at the mere thought. “Then again, I think when you get home it’ll be better than any night out with a group.” He paused then became silent after that.
The silence remained for a few more minutes and he wasn’t sure what was happening at the moment until he heard keys jingling outside the door. He heard them drop before standing, walking over, then opening it to show the slightly messy looking person he loved on the other side. Their hair was a bit fuzzy, shoes in one hand, phone in the other, and the keys were somehow hanging from their mouth. His eyes went from bottom to top and when he noticed that there were a tiny formation of tears coming to their eyes, he froze. Had he said too much? Did he sound clingy? Was he annoying them? Did he kill their buzz? His eyes flicked from them to the floor and he rubbed the back of his neck.
“I, uh.. Sorry abou-”
Before he could complete his sentence, they jumped onto him in a hug but he stumbled over and fell right on his ass. They didn’t seem to care as they only pushed themself closer to him. His arms instinctively wrapped around their waist and he felt their face being pushed into his neck. There were warm tears falling onto his skin. He wasn’t necessarily sure what was going on nor what they were thinking and he could only assumed this was somewhat good. That or they were planning to squeeze him to death.
“You dummy. You can’t say all that stuff when I’m drunk! I’ll cry! How can you make your loving and perfect little significant other cry like this? Being all nice.. And loving.. Ugh.” They whined, words slurring slightly.
“O-Oh, I, well, I-I.. I didn’t think you’d react like this. I apologize.” Toshinori began to hold them in his lap and gently pet the top of their head in hopes to calming them down. “I’m glad it made you happy though. I was worried it sounded differently. But never mind that now, let’s get you cleaned up and into bed.” He hummed, scooping up from the floor and closing the door with his foot. He managed to lean down and lock it as well.
He strolled into their bedroom, turning right and walking into the next door that connected to the bathroom. He set them down to be sitting on top of the toilet seat then pressed a quick, gentle kiss to their forehead before turning away towards the cabinet behind him. There he pulled out a washcloth and the bag of makeup removing wipes that he saw his s/o using after a night out. He tugged two makeup wipes out of the bag then proceeded to gingerly clean the makeup from their face. They would tell him about their night as coherently as possible as he did so. He couldn’t really understand what kind of story was being told but they enjoyed their night and looked cute too so he didn’t mind. After using both wipes, he made sure to wet the washcloth and wipe down their face one more time for good measure. Once their face was clean, he walked them back into the bedroom to help them change into their favorite baggy pajamas. The way they would lift their arms and giggle after having their dress pulled off reminded him of a small child. He found it endearing, in a way. Soon they were ready for bed and he laid them down, laying next to them and pulling the covers over both. Although neither party hardly made an effort to sleep. So, they talked until the sun rose but even then Toshinori didn’t sleep.
He didn’t want to despite his s/o telling him he should.
They had fallen asleep first and he simply watched the peaceful person before him. He smiled as he held them closely to himself and, eventually, he fell into a blissful sleep too.

one of these days i'll make a coherent intro post, however *bts vc* not today !! hello and welcome to johnny's world where we're shit @ introductions and even worse at consistency. honestly i cant stick to shit someone assist. anyways ! i bring the last piece of the puzzle rocky, who for some unfathomable reason wasn't taken ?? and i cried ?? fate. uh right i'm 19 and i never fkcing learned how to read. mdt timezone. them/they pronouns. continue under the read more to kill some brain cells !!
tw: physical and mental abuse/manipulation, drugs/alcohol and death/murder.
here's his soundtrack if u wanna listen while u read
DON'T DWELL ON THE PAST // ( i'm not even sure if i'm sticking to this [ looks @ admins nervously ] so things might change up if it doesn't fall w/ the right timeline. ) ( forgive the length the muse is real )
born on october 31st, 1995 ( happy halloween ) in deadtree, rocky was an entirely healthy baby received with much love by his mother and with some hesitance by his father. all he knew was how to shit and cry and life was a paradise, until eventually the months started rolling by that became three years and his mother was in a freak car accident that left her paralyzed from the waist down and with a bad case of major head trauma.
rocky still firmly believes that she woke up from her coma by god's will even if her basic executive function skills and self-regulations were gone. she had to be taken care of just like him, and the doctor's promised she'd learn to eat on her own again and her speech problems would regulate. this... did not happen. maybe it would've, if she had lived longer, but rocky never got to see the day when he didn't have to help his mom bathe or brush her hair.
his dad was the only source of income in the household besides his mom's monthly pension that the man would take and then disappear for days. he was bitter about having to raise rocky all on his own and even more bitter about the hefty hospital bills they were going to be paying off for the next several years. all the man wanted to do was laze about with a beer in his hand and a blunt in the other.
from early on he was prone to anger and it often manifested itself physically, so rocky would always have a bruise or two somewhere on his body. it was fine as long as the man wasn't hurting his mom, and he couldn't do anything else but accept the rough treatment.
he and his mom were becoming more and more neglected by his father, who only provided the bare minimum to eat and took his wife's pills for himself. rocky was already in school and he was that kid who always got off the bus running to get home. no one knew that he always ran to make sure his mom was okay while he was gone.
he was nine years old when his dad handed him a bottle of morphine and explained to him that the whole bottle would help his mom get a good night's sleep for once. rocky, knowing how much his mom struggled to rest, took the bottle and put each and every pill in his moms hand and watched her drink them until the last one. she did go to sleep, of course. rocky thought he'd done good until she didn't wake up the next morning.
he grew incredibly distant from his dad after this. he was already used to taking care of himself and his mom was the only reason he really bothered to make it home early, so after her death he got into every after-school activity he could manage, and when it wasn't enough, he ran around the streets with the older kids and pretended to be *cool*.
he started dabbling with the drug scene really early on in middle school, when he realized that his dad would never strive to be anything else but a piece of shit, so he decided to steal his pills and weed just like the man had stolen his mothers medication. he would sell them to his upperclassmen and never took any for himself because he saw what they could do, though eventually he did weed in high school and besides the occasional dose of ecstasy he doesn't do more than that.
one day, at age seventeen, he went home and his dad was gone. he waited for three weeks before he sold everything and fixed up a small abandoned house that became his new abode. with the cash he'd gotten from the car and the furniture he began growing his own hella dank nug, and eventually there was word on the streets about it. his dad had always been his unaware provider, but soon enough rocky joined a group as a dealer while selling his own stuff on the side.
he didn't want to follow under someone else so he got to the roots and offered the group's providers a better deal and eventually the business was going to him alone. people saw more opportunity with him and they flocked to his side one by one until he ran the original leader to the ground. honestly this kid was hella good in school and just as good in the streets.
of course it didn't happen without a fight tho so talk about several near-death experiences !! the streets are dangerous children stay in school.
fast forward, he had what he intensely regrets with elaine-- honestly had a good time dating a rich ‘good’ girl until he got real bad vibes from her and it wasn't chill anymore. felt real personally attacked that she was ashamed of him and broke it tf off. fuck a fake bitch !!
( me: plays hero by enrique iglesias for this section ) and then shiloh came ! his lord and savior. his fkcing BAE. would do ANYTHING for this boy is2g makes me so emo i'm shAKING just thinking about it. rocky truly believes this boy is his soul mate. he loves him so much oh my godfjsdh.
at this point his drug ring wasn't at all what it is now. it was relatively small and the profits weren't all that good but he was doing what he could. he had steady members who had been with him since the start and shiloh became an addition along with his best girl giselle and (eventually) barbara. honestly the dream squad nothing could stop them they were invisible. unfortunately there was a snake in their ranks and goddamn he's glad she showed herself honestly good fucking riddance barbie. he felt real betrayed after she left but if anything he thinks it made his crew tighter and stronger. still hates tht bitch tho afTER EVERYTGIH HE DID FOR HER.
( to be 10/10 honest tho rocky is a manipulative bastard and he thinks he's real slick but barbie caught on and he feels extremely attackt )
anyways so knowing that shiloh and giselle are his tru ride or die pals ( 👀 @ giselle ) the business continues and they're still the dream squad. sure they're doing shady af things and they've always been doing them but u kno what they say there ain't no rest for the wicked !!
he didn't at all like the fact tht shiloh pursued an internship w/ the mulani family but he tried to keep it chill because he loves and supports his bae but honestly could not do it. he doesn't personally pay too many visits to sycamore city precisely bc he goddamn loathes the mulani and moon families after all they've done to his people ( esp the moon’s ) and to think shiloh was getting involved w/ them really tested him as a person. he fcking failed because of how much shiloh wanted a pass into the city and rocky held him back but he's so goddamn proud of their love like damn. he knows he doesn't offer everything shiloh wants but he's out here tryin' his best to get his bae the life he deserves even if he's the worst street rat and everybody knows it.
( what is he secretly doing w/ all tht money tho hmmm )
BABY RIDE WITH ME // in regards to the *gollum vc* precious ( the ring )
just so the squad and ex-squad can get a feel of how rocky runs the ring i'm includin' this here
so rocky makes it a point to be an approachable leader whom you can go to with your problems and he'll have your back 100%. honestly everyone's dad there's no one left out. he keeps his status as the leader not by cruel acts to show what happens to rats but by making sure he's understood by each individual member. he's not the violent type at all unless someone really tests him but this guy preaches that people understand by words and acts of kindness not by violence and torture. he needs loyalty above all else so he offers a safe sanctuary to anyone who needs it. it comes with a price ofc but all he asks is that u do ur job and he'll keep u off the streets. basically in his group everyone has each other's backs and he's involved with everyone, not only because it helps him keep close tabs on everything but because that blanket of safety for his members is very important to him.
when it comes to his dealers he basically lets them do things their own way as long as they're not out there hurting innocent people. he pays by commission so it's really up to the dealers how much they wanna sell and who they wanna sell it to. he doesn't force his own morals onto his peeps so if they wanna sell to junkies who are gonna overdose on their next hit then that's really up to them. he just tries to guide them by telling em' the right things to do even in a shady business like their own.
w/ that being said shiloh is also a huge part of it, being his right hand man and all. rocky isn't all too meticulous or anything fancy like that, so he leaves a lot of decisions up to shiloh and honestly they're both huge dads just running a drug ring fjsiudhfgi
HE KNOWS HE'S SO FUCKING TALENTED // regarding his personality
rocky is a cocky piece of shit honestly i hate it but best concept
he genuinely thinks so highly of himself ?? even though he knows he's up to Some Shit ??
anyways i just wanted to mention that LMAO but find his full list of attributes here that i jst ctrl c ctrl v from the app. honestly will tell u all about his personality. thanks for reading this long ass, terribly structured, shitty shitty intro honestly u.... deserve a medal if u got thru it. is it too late to mention tht english is not my first language fhsuidfh
#pc.intro#⦁ — › OwO ᴡʜᴀᴛ's ᴛʜɪs? — ⌜ ᴏᴏᴄ ⌟#( IFROGOT THE INTRO TAG )#( anyways )#( highkey so happy to be here sehfdiufh )

59. career: I have one? but it’s like a career born out of necessity that doesn’t totally suck to do on a daily basis and the career I want (I just wanna write let me write) is not constructive as a way to pay the bills
60. hugs or kisses: BOTH. I hug people more than I kiss ‘em but I’m all for both
61. lips or eyes: eyes are the window of the soul yo
62. shorter or taller: I’m relatively tall so my inner circle of people consists of both shorter (mostly girls) and taller (Dutch folks tend to be skyscrapers)
63. older or younger: I’m friends with people much older and quite a bit younger than me -- I really don’t care about that. all my relationships have been with guys who were a bit older tho

68. drank hard liquor: hahahahahaha oh no
69. lost glasses/contact lenses: nah, I may forget where I put them but I never lost them
70. turned someone down: yeah I’ve had to do that, it’s not fun but if I’m really not feelin’ it I’m not gonna pretend otherwise -- I really fucking hate it when people don’t take a polite “no” for an answer though
71. sex on the first date: depends on how long I’ve actually known someone? if they’re a total stranger, then nope, but if we were friends before dating I just might
72. broken someone’s heart: yes, probably, but I didn’t stick around to watch them fall apart cos I was that done with the relationship and he really really really had it comin’ so I hope I shattered it tbh
73. had your heart broken: yeah but I bounced back all right from that so my guess is that I haven’t crashed and burned the way some folks do over heartbreak
74. been arrested: nah
75. cried when someone died: I have done both the ugly sobbing that just makes everything stream out in a cascade of tears and snot (yeah lol tmi) and the dry-eyed thing that eventually ended in a breakdown months later so uhhuh

Congratulations, Amber! I really enjoyed reading your application. You really understand the cruel irony that makes up so much of his sister. He couldn’t save his sister then, but now he could, but it’s too late. I can’t wait to see where you take his character and how you explore that cruel cruel irony.
Thanks again for applying! Please create your account and send in the link, track the right tags, and follow everyone on the masterlist as soon as you can. Welcome to Foxcroft!
OUT OF CHARACTER
Name: Amber
Age: 22
Preferred pronouns: she/her
Time zone: PST
Activity: 6-7/10! I try to get on at least every other day, although I do tend to disappear over the weekends (I’ll be on more during the week though, to make up for it). I work full time, but when I’m not working, rping is one of my favorite hobbies! In May that schedule will shift, as I’ll be going back to school and dropping down to part time work, but I should still be able to get on the dash! I’ve always managed to find time to rp, even when I’m attending school :)

IN CHARACTER
Full name: Wells Donovan
Date of birth: January 13th, 1990 (which makes him a Capricorn, for anyone wondering)
How long have they been in Foxcroft: For some, Foxcroft means something, whether that be home, security, or the place that’s trapped them. For Wells, it’s just another small town. Another place he’ll settle briefly, until he can afford to move on. After all, Wells has only lived in Foxcroft for about half a year. For him, that’s a significant amount of time, at least compared to his normal schedule — typically he puts each town in his rear view mirror within a year, meaning he should be about halfway through his tenure in Foxcroft. In a town where just about everyone is a local though, his novelty sets him apart from most, making him somewhat of an enigma, especially given his quiet nature.
Sexuality: Bisexual — not that Wells thinks much of it. He keeps to himself, and that includes both romance and sex. Even if he wanted something real, his complete inability to stay in one place limits his options. Every now and then someone catches his eye, but it’s only ever a no strings attached hookup, and Wells always finds himself leaving that town almost immediately afterwards. It’s not that he wants to be alone — if anything, Wells desperately wants connection. He’s just afraid of what it’ll mean. Saying goodbye is inevitable, and it’s too hard. He’d rather just keep everyone at arm’s length. It’s easier that way.

MORE
How do you interpret this character’s personality? How will you portray them? Include two weaknesses and two strengths. (2+ paragraphs)
It’s hard to describe Wells without describing Whitney too, because for much of his formative years, Wells was part of a pair. Wells and Whitney; Whitney and Wells. Two kids, against the world. Wells was the more awkward of the two, less sure of himself, but Whitney could always get him to smile. And while she was more trusting, more naive, Wells was always there to protect her. They both had nightmares of the foster care system separating them, but Wells never stopped to consider the possibility that death, so much more permanent and terrifying, might take his sister from him.
After Whitney died, Wells retreated into himself. His foster family tried to reach him, but they couldn’t. They meant well, but they’d only known Whitney for a few years. To them, it was merely sad. To Wells, it was beyond devastating. It was the loss of the only constant he’d ever known, and he didn’t know how to cope.
So Wells gave up on consistency and security, and took to the road as soon as he was able. He would’ve claimed it was for freedom or adventure or some other bullshit ideal, but in truth, Wells was running. Staying in one place for too long meant getting attached, and Wells couldn’t afford that anymore. Whitney’s death left him too fragile for that — how could he handle loving and losing again?
When he’s forced to settle down and save up money, Wells chooses smaller towns, places where it’s quiet. He finds work as a mechanic because it’s practical, and because he likes working with his hands. Besides, without even a high school degree to his name, it’s the best job he can find. He keeps to himself, staying quiet and staying out of everyone else’s business. He’s friendly enough with everyone, but it’s superficial, and he tries not to make much of an impression. When it’s time to leave, Wells does so without any regrets, and after a while, the towns and faces tend to blur together. It’s better that way. Once or twice, Wells has found himself considering what it’d be like to live in this town or the other for real, but he always shakes himself out of that reverie soon enough. This is his life, for better or for worse.
And this is the better version, probably. He’s a foster kid from a nowhere town, lugging around the memories of his dead family. Wells thinks he could do worse than a life on the road. At least he likes the peace and quiet, enjoys the long hours spent fixing his old car or watching the highway fly by. There’s a certain beauty to be found on the road. He doesn’t have a safe place to land, not anymore, but that’s alright — because as long as he doesn’t stop, nothing can catch up to him.
(strengths: practical, self sufficient, adaptable, calm. weaknesses: escapist, closed off, antisocial, lonely)
How did this character react to the death of Hazel Abrams? Adam Foxcroft? (1+ paragraphs)
Wells wasn’t in town for Hazel’s death, and at the moment, he’s barely aware that it even happened. If he was, he might’ve connected the initials on the bicycle sitting in the shop with the name of Foxcroft’s first dead child. As things stand now, Wells is vaguely aware that Adam wasn’t the first tragedy in town, but that’s about it. As far as Adam’s death goes, Wells didn’t know the kid. He might have seen him once or twice around town, but it’s hard to say. All the faces were still too new at the time, and Wells wasn’t exactly paying attention to anyone in particular. In a vague way, he thinks it’s sad. Adam was too young to die, but then again, death doesn’t care about those kinds of things. It may sound cruel, but he wasn’t impacted by Adam’s death, even if he saw the way it changed the town around him. He did his best to console the people who came into his shop, and he felt for them, but Wells preferred it when they grieved elsewhere and left him alone with whatever mechanics they needed fixed. Tragedy happens. At least it wasn’t someone he knew this time (which is, of course, why Wells very carefully knows no one)
How do they see the town and its people? Think about the different groups of people and prejudices the town holds about them. (1+ paragraphs)
Wells doesn’t think much of Foxcroft. It’s another small, nowhere town, and it’s one in a long list of places Wells has stayed in the past few years. He’s aware of the various prejudices that plague Foxcroft, but he doesn’t think of them as anything special. It’s awful, but small towns tend to breed that kind of thing. Lord knows he’s seen it often enough, when he’s unfortunate to land in a place that turns him back out in the cold for being biracial, or for kissing a boy. People in small towns live in a bubble, and they forget that in the whole wide world, there are billions of people different from them. That’s one of the things he likes about traveling — Wells’ life is never stagnant, and he never forgets how many different types of people populate the world. Wells keeps an open mind about Foxcroft’s residences, and tries not to judge anyone prematurely (unless they judge him first), but he’s not looking to learn about any of them on a deeper level. He just wants to do a good job at the Wicked Wrench, save his money, and hit the road again as soon as possible. Foxcroft will have to sort out its issues on its own.
For non-human characters: What does this character know about what they’ve become? Have they had any experiences that made them aware that weren’t exactly human? Elaborate. (2+ paragraphs)
Wells is completely unaware that Foxcroft is changing him. He’d have to touch someone to heal them, and at the moment, Wells’ main physical contact is with machinery. Besides, he can barely deal with his own wounds, preferring to simply outrun the past rather than deal with it. He can’t go out of his way to heal anyone else’s. In time, it’ll feel slightly ironic — Wells is far from tactile, and he spends much of his time lost in his own head, so what does it mean to have a power based entirely on touch and compassion?
Wells has only been in Foxcroft for about six months, and as such, he hasn’t had many experiences that even hint at the supernatural. Maybe he’s gone to shake hands with a customer and felt his back ache, or perhaps he’s brushed up against someone at the supermarket only to have his leg inexplicably throb, but he doesn’t think anything of it. Reading into those situations would mean leaving the realm of reality behind, and Wells firmly considers himself a skeptic. It’ll take a much bigger event for Wells to consider himself as anything other than fully human.
Please include 1-2 possible plots your see for this character:
Possible plots:
Wells is a drifter and a loner, and he never spends too much time in any town. I’d like to see something anchor him to Foxcroft. He deserves a place to catch his breath, even if he’s not quite ready to put down any roots. This could be something good, like a relationship or a friendship, or something bad, like the fear of what will happen if he leaves Foxcroft and its residence to their fate. Either way, Wells has been on the run for too long, and adjusting to life in Foxcroft, instead of just seeing Foxcroft as one more stop on the road, would be an entirely new feeling.
When Wells truly discovers his powers, it’ll be hard to feel anything but bitterness. He would’ve done anything to save Whitney. He’d been there, holding her hand, and she’d still slipped away from her. How fucking cruel it will be to learn that he can heal people now, when it’s too late to do anything to save the one person he’s ever truly cared for. I imagine that he’ll try to ignore his newfound powers at first, especially since they come at great cost to him, but if he truly had the choice between saving someone and ignoring their pain, his own guilt would force him to reach out and heal them no matter the cost. His head may say one thing (protect yourself), but his heart will say another (help them), and in the end, it won’t be reason that wins
Possible connections:
Shae Mckinley: Wells firmly doesn’t believe in psychics, or communing with the dead, but as it becomes clear that things in Foxcroft aren’t what they seem, he’ll be drawn to Shae. If he can heal people with his bare hands, if there are others who can breathe underwater or survive a gunshot to the heart — why can’t there be someone who talks with the dead? In the end, he’ll seek out Shae, because a chance to talk to his sister again is impossible to ignore.
Amelia Foxcroft: He doesn’t want to hear her story, because it reminds him too much of his own. Amelia is, perhaps, the one person in town who gets what it’s like to lose a sibling. That thought has Wells, uncharacteristically, going out of his way to help her. He doesn’t have much to bring to the table, but at the very least, he can offer her food, or free tune ups on her car. He doesn’t know how to communicate it, but he feels like he understands at least a bit of her pain.
Logan Lockwood: Wells finds his way to Logan’s bar fairly often. He orders a single beer after a hard day, and nurses it throughout the night, preferring to watch the people who come and go without speaking to them. At the end of the night, if there’s anyone who’s clearly about to drive drunk, Wells gives them a ride home or calls them a taxi (if there had been someone doing that in his hometown, maybe Whitney would still be alive). Wells doesn’t ever open up to Foxcroft’s bartender, but he’s heard others do so, and he appreciates the way Logan listens to each and every one of them. Sometimes he wonders, idly, what the bartender’s story is like. He never asks though.
Any character: They remind him of Whitney, and that hurts. He can’t look them in the eye, but he seeks them out all the same. He should be able to deal with it (after all, it’s been years since Whitney’s death), but Wells has never truly coped with the loss of his family, and that leaves him vulnerable. This person is an unwelcome reminder, but in a small town like Foxcroft, they’re impossible to ignore.
WRITING SAMPLE
Welcome to Foxcroft, the sign said as his headlights reflected off it. Coming into a town at night was never a good idea, but here he was, tank low on gas and dangerously close to being too broke to fill it up again. Once again, he needed money, and Foxcroft seemed as good a place as any to stop for a year or so. There weren’t many other places in the area anyway, so he didn’t have much of a choice. He’d worry about getting a job and housing later, but for now, Wells just needed some food and somewhere to sleep.
Foxcroft seemed like a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ kind of town, and that was exactly what Wells wanted. Another blip in his history. Another place that he’d forget, and who would forget him. His headlights were the main form of illumination at this hour of the night, and Wells drove slowly down the bumpy road, watching as ramshackle buildings fell behind him. Eventually, Wells spotted flickering neon lights and he angled his car towards them, automatically drawn to the first sign of life he’d seen in Foxcroft tonight. That paid off when he spotted the sign, and Wells smiled. Rudford’s Diner. Open 24 hours. That was exactly what he needed.
He’d expected to find an empty diner, but there were a few people inside. A group of kids, all crammed into a corner booth. A couple taking up an entire table, but steadfastly not looking at each other. Their presence didn’t make it feel like any less of a ghost town, but from Wells’ experience, most small town diners took on an otherworldly vibe when the sun set. He took a seat at the counter anyway. “A coffee and a burger, please,” he said, with a brief smile at the waitress.
When she returned, he made sure to tip generously, despite his low funds. Usually, that meant people were happy enough to leave him alone, but that didn’t stop her from speaking up anyway. “Haven’t seen you in town before, have I??” Her words were flat at the end, a statement more than a question. Clearly, they didn’t see much tourism here.
“Just passing through,” Wells said, taking a sip of his coffee too soon and burning his tongue. If anyway, that woke him up more, and he took another drink. At least the coffee was good.
“What brings you to Foxcroft then?”
He shrugged. “Nothing.” And then, after thinking about it for a second. “Know anyone who’s hiring mechanics?”
EXTRA [THIS SECTION WILL NOT INFLUENCE ACCEPTANCE]
How would you feel about this character dying?: I think I probably would be alright with it! As long as it serves the plot and Wells’ personal arc well, that is. If it does come to that point, I’d definitely prefer to know beforehand and, if applicable, I’d like to be able to pick up another character after Wells passes away!
Why did you choose this character?: Wells has so much room to grow. At the moment he’s so solitary, and so afraid of what will happen if he lets himself stay in one place for too long. If given the chance, I’d love to explore all the effects of his stay in Foxcroft. He’s finally landed in a town that’s going to sink its claws into him, for better or for worse, and there’s definitely going to be consequences…even if Wells isn’t ready to deal with them.
Extras: I’ve recently gotten really into pinterest, so you can check out his board here [x]! Just a heads up, there is one image with blood in it.
How did you find us?: (certain roleplay tags, friend referral, etc.) I saw your promo go around my rp blog’s dash :)

You learned to twist things to your advantage and use your facade to win your peers over. No one expected the monster who was born out of loss. Now you’re waiting and watching for the moment the world can be reshaped by war.
PERSONALITY TRAITS:
- Deceitful, opportunistic, sly
Ji-Min was always a sharp child, but after her mother’s marriage to Aidan Greengrass, Ji-Min learned to mask her true nature. Although she can be cruel and cold to those she does not care about, she presents a sweet exterior and a gentle smile to those she meets. This facade masks someone who is ruthless and ready to do whatever is necessary to advance her own cause. Likewise Ji-Min is opportunistic; if the chance comes for her to do something, she takes it. Ji-Min has never been afraid to twist her circumstances to suit her own desires. This has resulted in a girl who is sly and cunning, watching for advantages and leaping on them.
+ Clever, loving, careful
Ji-Min always had a quick mind and her mother taught her how to use it. From the time she was a child, Ji-Min was expected to solve her own problems and she grew to be quite independent, an attitude that continues to this day. Her independent nature in no way means that she is cold and withdrawn, however; Nari Yi ensured that her daughter was showered in love, and that Ji-Min knew how to return the love she received. Aidan Greengrass likewise grew to love Ji-Min as well, and the feeling is reciprocated. Friends and companions receive affection from Ji-Min in the form of trinkets and notes. Although she has goals and plans, and takes advantage of every opportunity, Ji-Min doesn’t take unnecessary risks either. Her sense of self-preservation is very healthy and she wants to ensure she’s safe first and foremost.
BIOGRAPHY:
TW: parent death, grief
Nari Yi was born to a pureblooded family in South Korea, who were convinced of their superiority but took it to mean that they needed to look after the nonmagical community around them. Nari grew up, then, with a strong interest in the political climate of her home and despite her enrollment in a local magical school, also completed her nonmagical education at her own insistence, growing to know and love the people she lived with. And so her parents were unsurprised when she moved to Seoul to attend Korea University. While there, she continued to be heavily involved in the political realm. This culminated in her attendance at the march from Korea University to the Blue House in the April Revolution. After that, though she remained invested in the political climate of South Korea, Nari’s focus changed. She discovered that she was pregnant, and her world became all about the little child she would have. The father was out of the picture - another protester who had moved on to a different city. Nari hadn’t been in love by any means and was happy enough to take the child on her own.
After the birth of her daughter, Ji-Min, Nari applied to work at the magical hospital in Seoul, where she had a small apartment and a friend to watch Ji-Min. Life continued quietly for the little family until Ji-Min turned five, when a man staggered into the hospital with severe injuries from a curse that he had been attempting to break for Gringotts. Nari took one look at Aidan Greengrass and knew that she had found a man she could spend her life with. Aidan felt much the same - Nari seemed like a veritable angel of life and it took little convincing for him to ask for a long-term posting to South Korea so that he could woo the woman who had nursed him back to health. It was only icing on the cake, in Aidan’s mind, that Ji-Min seemed to love him almost as much as her mother did; her daughter’s approval was slightly more important to Nari, but as Ji-Min grew to love Aidan, Nari knew they could be happy. Upon discovery of the importance placed on blood purity by Aidan’s family, Nari conveniently neglected to mention the fact that her daughter was a halfblood with a Muggle father; instead, she let Aidan assume that Ji-Min’s birth father was another pureblood who simply did not want the responsibility of a child. It didn’t hurt anyone, and even at five and six, Ji-Min was able to understand the need for secrecy.
Shortly before Ji-Min’s seventh birthday, Aidan and Nari were married in a small ceremony in her hometown and the family relocated back to England. Nari took work at St. Mungo’s, and Ji-Min was happy to spend her days with a nanny, who turned out to be more of a friend and sister for the girl than anything else. By the time her eleventh birthday came and Ji-Min received her Hogwarts letter, she was firmly ensconced in English life and quite happy to attend school with her counterparts. Aidan had adopted her, so she walked into the school as Ji-Min Greengrass and was afforded all the proper respect the name owed her, despite her very obvious differences from the rest of them.
At Hogwarts, she was sorted into Ravenclaw, where she quickly felt at home. She loved learning, and especially enjoyed the more abstract aspects of magic - she was clever and good at everything but theory was her favorite part of school. She made her friends, and put to good use a lesson she had been learning as she watched her new family in England: sweet girls went farther. Although Ji-Min was very motivated and had ambitions, she had seen how the innocent, gentle girls seemed to go farther in pureblood circles, and she began to put on an act. Ji-Min took the part of an innocent, kind young girl, who needed assistance and help, and inwardly took notes and learned how to manipulate people and situations to suit her best. It was a lesson she knew would serve her well in the future.
Ji-Min never paid much attention to the politics of the wizarding world, although her parents consistently debated the current news at dinner. Ji-Min’s attention was more frequently on the books she was reading, or magical theory, and she didn’t care what went on in the world - until it was too late. Nari had continued to work at St. Mungo’s, and she left for work on what seemed to be a normal day, but she never returned. Grindelwald and Voldemort attacked the hospital that day, and Nari was among the casualties. Although Aidan was devastated and confused, Ji-Min assumed immediately that someone knew the secret of her own birth and that her mother had been punished as a blood traitor. Which mean that she knew precisely which of the two responsible sides should take the blame for her mother’s death: Grindelwald held no quarrel with Muggleborn witches. Voldemort and his supporters were at fault. The attack came in late summer, shortly before Ji-Min’s return to school, and she did not deal with the loss well. She internalized her grief and threw herself into her studies, crystallizing her heart until she thought she was safe from any sort of grief that might strike her again. Andrei Draganov saw her anger and took advantage of it, pulling her into Grindelwald’s Army so that she could take her revenge. As her cousin Zhenya was already involved, it was no difficulty for Ji-Min to make the leap as well. And she never regretted that choice.
CONNECTIONS:
Andrei Draganov - acquaintance, recruited her into Grindelwald’s Army
Juliet Peverell - adoptive cousin, friendly with
Edgar and Amelia Bones - estranged adoptive cousins, not close although she’s curious about them

Miscellany:
Kumiho - Ji-Min grew up fascinated by the stories her mother told of the kumiho, a legendary creature similar to the kitsune of Japanese lore but with significant differences. The kumiho was far more bloodthirsty and violent, and even as a little girl, Ji-Min found that appealing. After Nari’s death, while Ji-Min went through her mother’s things, she discovered a book of folktales from South Korea and the fascination was reborn. She chose to become like a kumiho - innocent and soft on the outside, with a need to destroy the world buried under a sweet smile.
