He thinks the fact that you can draw is super cool!! Probably more so than you do, to be completely honest- he’s extremely enthusiastic about it, but that also means he’s extremely annoying about it.

Lots of “let me look, let me look!!” “I wanna seeeeeeee,” “(Y/N), pleaaaaseee, what’re you drawinggggg?”

“Tsukasa, I love you, I love you very much. But, I promise you, if you don’t shut up and let me draw in peace-”

So, of course, if you don’t let him see it, our gremlin of a boy is going to look through it one way or another. Pestering you relentlessly didn’t work, trying to slip it casually into a conversation didn’t work, so! You leave him no option!

One day, when you’re minding your business in class, Tsukasa checks your locker. Maybe, just maybe, you left it in there?

Hmm… empty- next stop!! Bookbag!

His eyes practically lit up, his expression excited, practically screaming “found it!!”

Tsukasa would open the sketchbook, silently wondering what on earth you could have drawn. His only experience in art was… well- with things that weren’t intended for art. It wasn’t ever proper “art” either. Just a lot of smearing. But anyway-

A part of him sort of hoped it would be something with him. Maybe even a little doodle, it didn’t have to be a fully colored, lined, amazing piece. Just little doodles, cos you loved him so much, and he infested your mind like the little parasite he is… y’know….

So, as he flipped through the pages, admiring your style- amazed with every little doodle, every little pencil marking, every little detail- he kept an eye out for anything that could have even vaguely resembled him. Yet, once he reached the end, he was rather certain that there was nothing. Tsukasa felt a bit disappointed, pouting despite the fact that you weren’t there to see it.

“Tell me how I knew you were up to something,” You sighed, looking at the boy seated next to your bookbag, the last pages of your sketchbook flipped open. He ignored the comment, placing your sketchbook to the side, then hugging you. You returned the hug, giving him a confused glance.

“What? It’s nothing incredible, but was it that bad-? I don’t even know everything that’s in that, so-”

“You didn’t draw me :(((“

“You didn’t ask me to???”

Still, you couldn’t help but laugh, well aware of the other sketchbook you had stored in the more secure part of your bookbag. Patting his back, then letting go of the hug, you bent down and grabbed your sketchbook and bag. Replacing the sketchbook he had flipped through, you then reached in and grabbed the other.

Somewhat embarrassed, yet know he already found out about your artistic abilities and would probably be glad to see himself, you handed him the sketchbook. “I’ll have you know, I’m not exactly overjoyed with you right now. But, since you’re a sneak, I’ll let you look at that one.”

Tsukasa opened the sketchbook with renewed energy, excited to see what was inside it. Was it him?! Did he actually infest your mind?!! Was he a good model??

Uncharacteristically, his face was slightly warm as he looked over the first page. It started off with a fully finished drawing of him- a very strong start, if he did say so himself. Not only was it him, it was awesome.

He flipped through the rest of the pages, happiness and excitement practically radiating off of him. You could have sworn you saw his eyes sparkling.

“THAT’S SO COOL, (Y/N)!!” Tsukasa would yell after shutting the sketchbook, throwing his arms around you happily, making sure that the sketchbook didn’t get damaged as he did so. “You did draw me! You drew a lot of me!!”

“Ahah- yeah. You’re… cute, after all. Why wouldn’t I draw my boyfriend?”

Mitsuba Sousuke <3

Nosey little dude, but on a more casual level than Tsukasa.

“I’ve shown you my pictures, so you should show me your drawings.”

“That makes sense,”

“So, show me.”

“Nope!”

“(Y/N)-”

Though amusing, Mitsuba will start to pout after a while. “Tch- it’s not like I wanted to see it anyway. It’s probably lame.”

“Awesome then! That doesn’t make me want to show you any more than I previously did~!”

Insert Mitsuba sticking his tongue out at you-

Still, Mitsuba does understand where you’re coming from. After all, he never shows you pictures he’s taken of you. Therefore! It’s only logical that you wanted to draw his cute face!! He muttered this, crossing his arms, yet pretending that it was no big deal to him. Nope, those little comments and attempted glances were nothing-

“Mmh? You’re cute, yes.”

“That’s not what I- whatever, pervert. It’s clear now. You don’t want to show me, ‘cos there’s raunchy art in there! Pervert! Creepy, you’re so creepy-”

“Then aren’t you a pervy creep for wanting to look in my sketchbook?”

“I-”

Mitsuba may have not talked to you for the rest of the day- but it’s fiiiine, he’s fiiiiiiine.

Especially since, by the end of the next day, Mitsuba passed your locker, planning on returning to the class from a bathroom break. As he glanced over at your locker, not fully shut because of your bookbag shoved into it, an idea crossed his mind. It wouldn’t take long… a little peak wouldn’t hurt. Just to make sure his s/o wasn’t a pervert, of course! Not out of personal interest!

So, he grabbed your bag, rummaging through it until he found a well-used sketchbook. His interest peaked, as he grabbed it, opening it up and flipping through the pages.

Some of the pieces were similar to pictures he had given to you, but he didn’t spot anything of him. Sure, your art was impressive, and he was rather content finally getting to see it, but-

But where was his cute face?? Not even his name??? No dreamy “(Y/N) Sousuke” written? Nothing.

Well, it’s not like he cared anywa-

“Really, Mitsuba? You needed to use the bathroom?”

“AH-” He yelped, shutting your sketchbook, as if that would make it seem like he wasn’t just flipping through the pages in slight awe. “Shut up, pervert! I went to the bathroom, I just- you were being suspicious.”

“By drawing?”

“YEs.”

You laughed lightly, though embarrassed as you took the sketchbook from him, putting it back into your bookbag. To be completely honest, your heart was beating a bit faster, slightly nervous that he found your art ugly. It wasn’t anything in comparison to his pictures, you thought..

And, when you turned around and caught a glimpse of his slightly disappointed face, your heart beat even faster. “What? What’s wrong?”

“Nothing,” He said, somewhat defensively- well, that much was normal.

“Sorry, it’s probably disappointing- I know my art isn’t the greatest, but it’s definitely improved over time. There are things I need to study, but-”

“Hey, don’t assume I’m upset with your art, dummy. It’s…” He blushed slightly, looking away from you and shoving his hands in his pockets, “it’s really cool. I’m impressed.”

“Then why are you pouting?”

“I’m not pouting.”

You raised your eyebrows, making Mitsuba flush further, opening his mouth as he thought of what to say in response to that expression. “I just- well, you were weird about it, so I figured there was something about me- something weird or suspicious. But, it’s all perfectly normal.”

It took a moment for you to get behind his words- but, after getting behind Mitsuba’s extremely indirect way of saying things, you understood what he meant. He wanted you to draw him. After processing that, you bit your lip, wondering if you should actually show him your other sketchbook… a glimpse at his slight pout, though it was now confusion at your conflicted expression, you turned around, rummaging through your bookbag.

Then, you pulled out another sketchbook, and pushed it against his chest. “Since you’re so insistent. Just go ahead and look through it, I guess.”

It was Mitsuba’s turn to raise his eyebrows, as he took the sketchbook, and opened it up. His face burned, as he flipped through the pages. They were… filled with him. It genuinely made his heart pound, looking at the array of doodles, line art, and fully finished pieces- occasionally, a small heart or smiley face would be doodled alongside them. If he didn’t find your art incredible before, he definitely did now. Of course, he’d never admit it to your face, but his expression was enough for you to understand.

“A-ah… gross- idiot. Of course, I should have known a pervert like you would draw such a cute face. It’s obvious.”

“Right, right. Honestly, just give me a penny each time you call me a pervert, I’ll be rich in no time-”

Hi guys! I’m back. Now, I know it’s been a while since I last posted anything as uni has been kicking my butt, and I was busy with my final sem exams. But now that I’m back, I would like to do something simple to celebrate me reaching 506 followers (596 currently) a while ago, and that is to open a discord server.

As for your writing style, it is simplistic but beautiful: you don’t use many flowery words to express your writing, yet those simple words you choose bring out what you want to show in your works exactly, and the flow of words is just rly smooth and I stan the cohesiveness 💞. Oh and you have such a cute minimalistic art style that is very pleasant on the eyes! And lately I can see that you’re improving at a quick pace; your drawings are getting more detailed than last time and that’s really amazing! I've never truly entertained the thought, though, given I'm quite sure I legally couldn't be given my suicidal past and mental illnesses. There is also NO way I could listen to so many people's suffering and manage to stay healthy myself, so, no therapist position for me, thanks. Have you ever been to a Chinatown? What is a comfort movie/show for you? When I actually liked watching movies, I enjoyed watching Silent Hill when I was down. That whole franchise just makes me so happy. What was the last thing to make you even remotely sad? Today's been a kind of rough PTSD day thanks to Facebook. My old high school friend had her beautiful daughter, a childhood friend just got married the other day, another friend is due to have her baby in just a couple weeks... It's just weird but even more painful to know it was the life I once fantasized about with a guy that just dropped me and made a break for it. I hate admitting that there's this deep, deep bitterness in me about it, like he took my life away from me, even though that's of course very unfair to say. I don't want to talk about this anymore, so moving on with my day.

Otomedia April 2019 - Character Designer Kameda, Eyecatch Team Kenja, Series Co-ordinator Seko & Director Tachikawa - Interview Translation

Here’s Character Designer Kameda, Eye-catch Team Kenja, Series Co-ordinator Seko & Director Tachikawa’s interviews from April 2019’s Otomedia! Semi-summary style as there’s a lot to get through - naturally, this is a long one, but there’s plenty of cool stuff in here that makes for a good read. Includes stuff like why certain scenes were cut from the anime (boxcutter Minori, the cat, etc.), Joseph’s original character design, where Reigen got some of his ‘wise sayings’ from, the reason behind the kaleidoscope imagery in the S2 intro and outro, and plenty more!

KAMEDA YOSHIMICHI Character Designer

Asked how the production environment was for season 2, he says that it was “strangely pretty hectic - lots of stuff going on (laughs)”. States that with season 2 they understood the direction that MP100 would take more than they did with season 1. Something he and Director Tachikawa struggled with in season 1 was what kind of anime style would be best for the manga.

For season 2 the majority of the staff working on it had seen season 1, so production was steady.

He says that before season 2 he’d been working on “Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Treasure Island”, but work for season 2 began before he was finished with that film.

Just before working on season 1 of MP100 he’d worked on One Punch Man, “and it’s thanks to that that I was able to snap into work on Mob Psycho 100, but this time around it was a bit of a hard fight.” While drawing the designs for the new characters who’d appear in season 2 he eventually found himself readjusting to the proportions of MP100 (vs. Doraemon’s style)

Mentions how Tachikawa has been working on the MP100 OVA previously so getting back into work on Mob Psycho didn’t seem to be that strange for him, but for Kameda personally it took a bit of getting used to.

He’s asked if there’s anything regarding Mob’s character design that is essential to maintain a certain ‘Mob’-ness about him, to which Kameda replies; “The length of his fringe/bangs, ie. whether or not you can see his eyebrows.” Discusses how there’s only a certain amount of space between where his hair ends and his eyelids start to give an expression, and the depth of his expression varies greatly depending on if he has eyebrows or not.

“Mob is a character who isn’t really expressive, but regardless, it is important to be able to show his expressions. That’s something I told everyone to pay attention to.”

“In season 1 we avoided drawing Mob with eyebrows as much as possible, but in season 2 we see them again and again, and then we have the super handsome sparkly-eyed Mob that we see in S2E5! Since that episode, even in his normal state, it became fine to give him eyebrows (laughs).”

“This season, he’s had a lot of angry scenes. The start of episode 9 has him quite notably angry. For that, you’ve got to give him eyebrows.”

Q: “Would you say season 2 lifted the ban on eyebrows?” A: “Season 2 lifted the ban on eyebrows!” States he himself didn’t draw eyebrows much at all during season 1. “Right now, I’m doing work on the final episode, and I’m giving those eyebrows a certain plumpness (laughs).”

He is asked if there were any other changes made to the characters. “This is a very minute change, but for certain characters like Mob and Reigen I made a change to their silhouettes - beforehand, their hair had a rounder shape, but now their hair has become a little more playful.”

“I suppose rather than a choice I made on purpose, their hair ended up this way because it’s easier to draw. It’s probably the result of the great amount of advertisement art I drew after season 1 finished broadcasting.”

Asked what he thinks season 2’s “power-up” point is or where it’s changed compared to season 1, he says that they had a lot of young animators participate this season and the quality of their digital work was amazing.

Mentions how with digital animation the look of things like smoke and sparks, and spatial representation, improves.

“For example, in S2E3, when Reigen is looking through the window, the camera passes by him and while approaching the girl, the camera turns to the wall and enters it… the animator made the environment for that scene in 3D with a virtual camera.”

Q: ”A good amount of new characters show up this season - which of them is your favourite?” A: ”Shinra Banshoumaru! I made him chubbier than he is in the manga. His belly that sticks out, his short legs, his harem pants… I drew those, but Tachikawa-san told me I was going too far. But I persisted; ‘Tachikawa-san, we live in a time where there’s no chubby characters in anime! If there’s any anime that can challenge that it’s Mob Psycho 100!’ I was like a bulldozer with the things I said, and as a result I got him how I wanted him!... I say that, but Tachikawa-san also topped-up the amount of belly-sways Shinra has (laughs).”

He's asked about characters post S2E9, to which he mentions Joseph's clothes being different in the manga. "He wears a greyish suit in the manga, but I feel like Joseph has more of a white image. Plus, a grey suit would overlap with Reigen. At first I had Joseph wear a black leather jacket, but a few days later I reviewed that and went, 'nah, that's not right.' I had it changed to white."

He is asked about any scenes up until S2E9 that he particularly fussed over, or any that left an impression on him. “Episode 7. It’s a great Reigen story, and I had the privilege of being the animation director for it. I paid great attention to Reigen’s expressions. It’s an episode with a lot of good cuts, so I wanted to make sure they were all the best quality they could be.”

Q: “Of those cuts, which would you say is the best?” A: “It really leaves an impression on you in the manga - when Reigen says, ‘You’ve really grown up, haven’t you’, a message for beyond the camera. [...] Then, in the final part of the episode, when he talks to Mob on the bridge. Episode 7 truly has some great expressions; my favourite faces.”

He’s asked if there’s anything coming up that he’d like us to pay attention to & any highlights - mentions the battle between Shibata and Gouda. Says the anime brings action and originality that only anime can achieve.

His final message to readers is that if you haven’t read the manga yet, don’t go running to read it, wait for the anime first, so you can experience the tension of not knowing what happens next. “The quality of season 2 is insane, right up until the end.”

KENJA Eyecatches Kenja are described as a video production group, who have made promotional advertisements for MP100 (both for the manga and S1 of the anime), and were in charge of the eyecatches for season 2. The eyecatches were mainly made by koya, Takarai & 0gt. koya, their representative, has worked as ONE’s assistant, and Takarai participated as an animator this season.

Asked how they ended up doing the eyecatches for season 2, koya says that Satou Miyo (who was in charge of the season 1 ending) was a classmate of his when he was a graduate student. “We got back in touch and the message I got was, ‘I’m doing work on the ending of Mob Psycho 100, do you want to work on something too, koya-kun?’ (laughs).”

Takarai had his way in via already being an animator for the show, and koya discusses being ONE’s assistant. “ONE-san and I get along very well, so I’d tag along to anime events. I got talking to Director Tachikawa and now here we are.”

They were originally told that it’d be fine to have the same eyecatch for before and after the commercial pause, but they were worried that watching the same thing twice would be a bit unbearable, so they made two for each episode instead.

koya: “Ended up being tougher than I thought (laughs).”

Takarai: “Well, simply put, we doubled our work load (laughs).”

The eyecatch for episode 3 is brought up. Takarai; “Eyecatches have this image of being stand-alone things, but for this episode, it snuggles up to the plot. It was a choice that made me anxious, but looking at everyone’s reactions to it, I was relieved.”

Their final message to the readers comes from koya, who states that going on Twitter and seeing everyone react to mob psycho 100 stuff as it happens in real time is very encouraging. “Even just, ‘I wonder what the eyecatches will be today?’, makes me happy.”

SEKO HIROSHI Series Co-ordinator

Asked where he thinks season 2 has powered up compared to season 1, he says that season 1 had to introduce all the characters - season 2 starts off with the characters introduced, so the action kicks off full-throttle.

He’s asked what his thought process was in choosing what parts of the manga to leave out of the anime. “My process is, I first write with absolutely everything from the manga in the script, then choose what to cut from there. The flow of the story as a whole is important - I keep that in the forefront of my mind, and choose to keep things that are vital to the story. Other than that, I try to keep scenes that show off the personalities of the characters. There’s been moments where I’ve had to cut scenes, even though I really like them, just because they wouldn’t fit into the length of the episode…! Other than episode length, there’s also parts of Mob Psycho 100 that we wouldn’t have been able to include due to broadcasting code.”

He’s asked which character he thinks grew the most, to which he says Mob. “What stuck with me was episode 3. ‘Mob’s been thinking about this kind of stuff’... I was like, ‘oh’.

He’s asked if there’s any other character he feels has had a big change since season 1. “Naturally, Reigen. [...] I feel like Reigen has had a layer peeled back, after episodes 6 and 7. He’s an adult, and he does act that way sometimes, but there’s parts of him that haven’t matured… but I feel with the completion of that arc, he’s taken a step closer to becoming a fully-fledged adult.”

He’s asked if there’s been any part of the season up until episode 9 that’s particularly left an impression on him, to which he says episode 8. “The marathon. [...] That was a part that made me think, wow, this manga is amazing. You have a regular school marathon, and then come home to find your house on fire - not something you’d be quick to find anywhere else, huh. (Laughs)”

He discusses how originally season 2 was 12 episodes, and the house fire would’ve come at the end of Part A of the original episode 8, and Claw Arc would commence with the B part. It was with Warner Brother’s intervention that season 2 became 13 episodes, as an individual from Warner Bros. wanted to have the fire come at the end of episode 8.

He’s asked which of the new characters in season 2 has particularly been on his mind. “His entry is a little later on, but I love Serizawa from the Ultimate Five. How should I put it… it’s not surprising that he’s the way he is. He was a hikikomori, and he doesn’t know anything about society, so he believes in and follows his ‘boss’. I think this sort of situation can happen to anyone. He was brainwashed, so to say. But, what becomes of him? His story is one that I really love, so he’s definitely the character on my mind.”

He’s asked what it is about Mob Psycho 100 that makes it Mob-Psycho-100-ish, to which he says that the characters don’t feel like they’re just characters - they’re all a bit hopeless but that’s what makes them loveable.

“The Telepathy Club guys, for example… if they were real they probably wouldn’t be able to become proper members of society, but we still think of them fondly. Perhaps we’re too harsh to people who we deem hopeless in this world of ours.”

“No matter who you are, ONE-san will be warm to you. I think the goodness in Mob Psycho 100 comes from ONE-san’s personality.”

TACHIKAWA YUZURU Director

Says that the average age of people working on season 2 dropped slightly compared to season 1. “We had people who love the manga, people who had only seen season 1, and those who love both. So there was a harmonious atmosphere.”

States that there was a lot of creative freedom given to the staff. “We can play around. That’s a merit of a show of this calibre - you can do as you please.”

States that Season 2 powered up compared to season 1 when it comes to emotions. Says that even in fight scenes, the personalities of the characters and their relationships shine through, which is something he wanted to maintain when shifting the MP100 manga into anime form.

“There’s quite an oscillation when it comes to emotions in the first half of the season. Episode 1 is warm and fluffy; episode 2 has a mix of laughs and horror; episode 3 impacts you… as do 4 and 5 (laughs). Then, episodes 6 and 7 moved plenty of our staff to tears. They’re full of heart.”

Discussion of season 2’s ED. “The emotional intensity of season 2 shifts a lot, and when the show makes you feel down it makes you feel /down/. So, I asked for an ending that’s warm and fluffy - something that calms you when you watch it. The illustrations are incredibly cute, but actually, the ending is not just cute - there’s stuff depicted that holds a deeper meaning.”

He’s asked about the kaleidoscope imagery present in the intro. “Originally the S2 outro didn’t have any kaleidoscope imagery, but I wanted to add it in, so now there’s that link between the intro and the outro. Mob continuously changes as a result of the people he meets… that’s a theme of the outro, but it’s also a theme of Mob Psycho 100 in general. There’s several parts within a kaleidoscope, but put the parts together and they create something new and charming. Mob gains friends, and as a result of all these different friends, he’s able to grow… that’s the meaning behind the kaleidoscope, and why it’s present in both the intro and outro.”

Interviewer brings up that Tachikawa previously said that season 1 was written with Reigen & Mob’s shishou-deshi relationship at its core, and asks what is at the core of season 2. “Reigen is also a protagonist-type character in Mob Psycho 100, but this time around we focused on Mob… season 2 has ‘The people surrounding Mob and his relationships with them’ at its core. Episodes 6 and 7 are pretty firmly about Reigen in that ‘people surrounding Mob’ role. Then there’s Mogami, and Serizawa later on. But, even deeper at its core season 2 focuses on how Mob grows as a result of the people he meets.”

Interviewer brings up that Tachikawa previously said he wanted to animate Reigen’s press conference, and asks how it was having that wish become reality. “We have it in season 1, that scene where Mob meets Reigen for the first time. When we put that in season 1, we thought if we’d ever get to animate the press conference, we’d use that scene again but have Reigen’s monologue from the manga this time around. I’m glad we were able to do that.”

Reigen’s past not being in the manga is brought up. “With the anime, I wanted to show a bit of how Reigen ended up where he is now. We don’t see the company Reigen used to work for in the manga. Occasionally, Reigen will come out with some ‘wise sayings’, such as ‘the secret behind business success lies in your smile’, so we thought it would be good to have those words come from where he used to work. We struggled deciding whether Reigen’s past should be as a water filter salesman, or as an insurance salesman. Ultimately, we asked ONE-sensei, who decided for us: ‘I like the idea of him selling water.’”

Discussion of Tsubomi coming to S&S as not being in the manga. Tachikawa wanted a scene in which Reigen, Ritsu, Teru do something for Mob - “something that sets things back to normal, after Whitey Arc.” ONE gave the idea, then published it as an omake manga.

He is asked what he’d like us to pay attention to with the final episodes. “Each character has their own motivation, but at the end of the day those motivations all add up to ‘defeat claw’.” Mentions a bunch of new characters making their entrance.

His final message to readers is that a lot of work went into the final episodes and attention was paid to detail, so please enjoy.

i really love your art style. like holy crap i aspire to draw with such clean lines, nice angles and tastey cross hatching. idk if you can share a tip or what inspired your style but wow i love it 👍💜

AWH thank you!!!! That means a lot to me ;o;o;o;o;o;o;o; Nice angles and tastey cross hatching is exactly what I strive to have in my art because those are the most satisfying to me in art!!! As for tips or inspirations, I can try my best to share as to what I do to achieve my style :’D!!

Here’s to how I draw:

I don’t know if I have any tips but I generally just sketch with barely any pen pressure (or just none at all) and on full opacity. I make sure to finish a line in one stroke, though I generally also do a lot of them in two strokes and clean up after. Actually, with lines that are long, I sometimes leave two strokes if the initial one I did looks wrong in some way! To me, it looks much more satisfying that way XDD Though I don’t do that in actual lineart. I just really like thick lines djfhjdf I use a lot of triangle shapes :”D

When I’m using a brush with no pen pressure or opacity, I usually draw with 3 sizes of a brush. Usually just 3, 4, and 5. 3 for the small details, 4 for generally everything, and 5 for an outline of what I want to be emphasized! When I’m sketching this way, it’s really easy to just clean up and turn it to something that looks like actual lineart djfhdjksf. If I’m doing lineart for real though, I make my drawing at least be larger than 1000x1000 pixels and use a brush that’s either 12 pixels or higher depending on how large the image turns out to be >:D!

I use a LOT of references when I draw something, I barely draw anything without a reference and it really helps!! Don’t be ashamed of using references since, as artists, we’re all taking from reality in some way after all! I even have a folder in my laptop full of body references ready to go XDD

With stabilizers, I either use none at all or just never exceed ‘6′ unless I’m doing really long straight lines or a perfect circle. Line confidence really changes the game man djhfjkdhs All the hatching I’ve done over the years has helped me become less anxious about my strokes. If I can get away with it, I also turn most curves into straight lines! (I really like the look of blocky things though at the same time I strive for it to look soft as well djfhdjsfh)

Layers, layers, la y e r s. When I draw ANYTHING, I always have so many layers jdfhjf The first layer is the base/general shape, second is the first pass, (if I still don't like it there’s the second pass or even third;;;), next is additional details, and next next is even more additional details djshfjh I just merge all of them in the end and even then some parts I keep a copy of as a ‘just in case’ sorta thing djfhjs

If you’re having trouble with a drawing, its generally a good idea to redraw it (or at least a part of it)! Learning when to abandon a drawing and instead redraw/start anew has helped me improve a lot!!

Here’s the inspirations for my art:

My main inspiration that’s stayed consistent over the years is Zukich! Their lines and the aesthetic of how they draw is what I hope to hit one day though I still have absolutely no idea how they line or color their pieces djfhjf. Just looking at any piece of their art is re al ly satisfying and if you look at any of my drawings that are vaguely cartoonish/chibi-like, you can kinda see it XD

Another is @/princeofmints! I used to take inspiration from him with how I drew bodies and I still do! But I usually just want to draw bodies like those in shounen anime XDDDD

For my hatching, it was tamaytka that initially inspired me :D! I initially just used it to block in black colors when I didn’t have a tablet but I started using cross-hatching to shade traditionally as well so that turned into something else XDD I’m generally a bit too lazy to do it now though dsfghdjksgf

These people have all been inspirations to me, their art has helped me in shaping how I want my art to look like and I hope that in some way I’ve succeeded in deviating and not just outright copying :’)

(1/4)I’d like to request a matchup for Kuroshitsuji, OHSHC,&Free please. I’m an INTP bisexual female with slightly above shoulder-length black hair and a fringe. (Although, I do have an undercut as well so it’s a bit “odd” to most people. Basically, with my hair normally, I look like a young Japanese school girl but with my hair tied-up, I look like “a delinquent.”) I also need glasses however, I tend to avoid using them unless I’m on a device of sorts or reading for a prolonged period of time.

(2/4) I’m a 5’1 Capricorn and as such, I am known to be a very independent person who gets what they want done. The downside to this is if I’m forced to do something, my efficiency drops dramatically and so I’d think it’s quite useless to tell me to do something I have no interest in. Also, people who have met me for the first time tend not to take me seriously when I speak straightforwardly or pointedly because of my short stature. English is my 2nd language and Japanese is my 3rd.

(3/4) My hobbies include reading, writing, painting, drawing, and anything within the field of arts. Because of this, I’ve been told that I’m quite smart as I can ace an important exam without having studied seriously prior. Most of my time goes to my hobbies and so I don’t really bother with academics so as long as I don’t fail nor let my grades fall too low, I don’t put for much effort in school. I prefer to be alone or with another individual rather than in groups when it comes to working.

(4/4) or simply conversing as I tend to get overwhelmed with too much company (which, sadly, makes me more irritable and snappy at people.) I’m a classic(?)introvert case and because of my disorganized emotional nature, people tend to think I’m bi-polar. Sometimes, I’d like to be left alone since I prefer working seriously but I also like being affectionate towards people I like or cherish. He was improving. Slowly but surely Adrien was opening up to his other friends again. His father even let him out of the manor more often. Kagami was optimistic, but . . .

His fencing still troubled her. Adrien's style used to be singularly reckless and, she would often point out, undisciplined. She could feel his will to win in every riposte and parle. He was the only member of the fencing team Kagami wasn't sure she could beat. Not all the time.

This wasn't that. This was mechanical and without spirit. Without heart. Technically there was nothing wrong with his form but every move he made carried a certain hesitance that didn't belong on him. At this rate the newbies could wipe the floor with him.

That's why they were having a one on one practice session in the school courtyard . . . Not that it seemed to be helping.

"You need to move faster!" she rebuked while landing a hit.

"S-sorry." They retook their positions and he made a lung she dodged easily.

"Don't be sorry, be faster," she scored another hit.

He lunged. She parried. "Not like that!" Direct hit, it was getting repetitive.

"Sorry . . ."

Kagami glared even though he couldn't see her through the mask. "You're doing it again."

"Doing what?"

"That thing where you tell yourself that you never do anything right." She removed her mask so he could see just what she thought about that.

". . . Oh." He removed his own mask and sat on the practice mat. "Is it that obvious?"

"I'm serious. You're the second best fencer on the team . . ."

His shoulders hunched. "That's generous of you."

". . . Is that what this is about? You want to be number one?"

Adrien gave her a look. "Don't confuse my issues with yours."

Kagami blushed slightly. "It's just that you always took your losses gracefully. But, after the incident, I wondered if maybe you grew tired of it."

". . . Before going to school I didn't have anyone to play with. Except Chloe, but anyway. All the games I own said 'Adrien' for the High Score. Then, suddenly, I have friends who're actually allowed to come over and just like that I'm not the only one who's at the top of the scoreboards . . . And I loved it. I loved giving my friends a challenge and pushing each other to improve. I loved being number two 'cause that meant there was someone else besides j-just me."

Kagami stared at this sweet, naive, broken boy. He was right, she had seen the similarities between their parents and assumed. The Tsurugi family demanded excellence in all things. Gabriel Agreste was no different. But while Kagami followed her mother's expectations willingly, Adrien felt like he had no choice.

It was an odd feeling, knowing your friend understood you better than you understood him.

"You love fencing. You said it makes you feel free."

". . . It did. Now? It's just a reminder that I wasn't good enough."

"Adrien, I want to help. I do. But I can't if you don't let me. Why do you look at Nino like you're angry with him half the time and proud the other half?"

"It's a secret," he replied, glancing away.

"Why did you quit Rose's band? Officially."

"Creative differences."

"Unofficially."

"Creative! Differences!"

"Why does anything to do with Ladybug and Panthera make you block out everything so much we have to snap you out of it?"

"I'm getting better!" His eyes widened and he covered his mouth. "I-It's the akumas! I get flashbacks!"

She would believe him but in the last akuma attack he had been nothing if not calm and collected. Plus, all his impressive skills in the art of deception flew out the window when he was nervous.

"You can trust me."

Panic flared in his eyes and he looked down. He fidgeted with the slightly paler band of skin where his ring used to be. She kept quiet as he debated with himself. Hope and fear warring across his features. Finally his hands stilled and he looked up at her in determination.

"Okay," he took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "Okay."

Adrien led her into one of the empty classrooms and, making sure no one was outside, propped a chair in the doorknob.

"So, I know this'll sound farfetched and you probably won't believe me. I wouldn't believe me either, it's crazy. But it's the truth. I've never told anyone else but it doesn't matter anymore, so I guess it's okay. What I'm trying to say is . . . I was Chat Noir."

Kagami's eyes widened in surprise. It made so much sense. His guilt at not being able to help Marinette, at not being able to save her. His feelings of inadequacy, because who wouldn't feel that way after being replaced so publicly? Chat Noir disappeared the same time Adrien died. All of the puzzle pieces fit, all the inconsistencies resol-

Ladybug left him alone.

Ladybug, his 'partner', left him alone and he'd never said a word against her.

Adrien shifted anxiously. "Kagami, please, say something!"

Snapping out of her thoughts Kagami told him what she should have said a long time ago:

"Thank you, for saving me."

He blushed and looked away. "I wasn't much help. Ladybug did all the important work."

"No." Kagami stepped forward. "I've seen the footage. Ladybug didn't stand a chance against Riposte. Not without you."

"Y-your just saying that to-"

She narrowed her eyes. "Adrien Agreste, when have I ever said anything about someone's capabilities that was vain flattery?"

". . . Never."

Right, now that that was out of the way:

"Who else knows about Chat Noir?"

"Just you and F- one other person. But he doesn't matter anymore." His eyes hardened at the memory.

"Seems like someone who knows your secret identity-"

"Former secret identity."

"-would be important."

"I don't want to talk about him." Adrien's tone left no room for argument, so she let it slide. For now.

"You haven't told Nino? I'd think he'd be the first person you told."

"Yeah . . . Except I don't want him to know."

"Why would you trust me more than the others? You've known them longer, technically I'm still the new kid."

Adrien gave her a confused look. "You've always been honest with me. I thought I should return the favor."

Touched if still a bit unsure at his reasoning, Kagami asked what all of Paris had wondered:

"Why did Chat Noir leave?"

He looked down in shame. ". . . Papillon found out who I was," he whispered so softly Kagami thought she misheard. "Oh, guess that's three people who know."

Kagami willed her voice to remain even. "The psychotic, brainwashing supervillain knows who you are? Why are you so calm about this? No, better question: Why hasn't he done anything about it? No offence Adrien, but you haven't exactly been in the best place these last few months. Why haven't you been akumatized yet?"

She could see Adrien struggle to pull himself out of the downward spiral his thoughts were taking. "I . . . don't know. Papillon hasn't balked at using every underhanded tactic he could think of. Why would he draw the line at . . . me?"

"Do you think he can't akumatize someone with . . . whatever it is you have?" He had never officially told her and the last time she'd brought it up had not ended well.

"Um, I don't think it's that. Even if Papillon won't, or can't, akumatize me, all the villains he's sent since Weredad haven't gone anywhere near the school. The only reason we got caught up in the last one was because the villain sent his minions all over the city. Papillon might have decided to test whether I still had the ring. Once Panthera showed up he must've thought I wasn't worth bothering with . . . Kind of reminds me of someone . . ."

She mulled that over. "Why would he wait so long? That month was the longest Paris has gone without an akuma attack since this whole mess started. Kicking the heroes while they're down is exactly what Papillon would do. So, why didn't he?"

"Maybe he was sick?" Adrien suggested unconvincingly.

Kagami stared at him.

"What? Supervillains can get sick too!"

"I just never thought of him as a person before," she admitted.

"He doesn't make a great argument for himself."

"Wait. If Ladybug doesn't know who you are, were, how would she get the Miraculous back to you?"

He looked away. "I shouldn't say anything, it's risky."

"I thought you were going to be honest with me?"

". . . Remember when I told you we had a supervisor of sorts?"

She nodded then her eyes widened. "That's where Ladybug gets all the other Miraculous!"

He straightened in surprise but slumped down quickly. "He's the 'Great Guardian of the Miraculous', the one who chose Ladybug . . . And who decided to replace Chat Noir."

"Baka!" Kagami hated the man already and she hadn't even met him.

Yet.

Adrien shook his head. "I don't . . . It was the smart thing to do. Chat Noir was c-compromised and . . . And Papillon already succeeded in getting my Miraculous o-o-once. What's stopping him from doing it again? I . . . I was so . . . useless."

"You are not useless!!!" Kagami shouted, heedless of who would hear.

"Ha! Years of fencing and martial arts. Months of fighting superpowered villains. None of it mattered! It took Ladybug two days to get as good as she is now! How long did I have to catch up!? Two years!? I'm not on her level! Not even in her league! So is she just that good or am I just that incompetent!?"

Tears fell down his face which he wiped at angrily.

Kagami focused herself. She was going to get through to this stubborn boy if she had to beat it into him.

"I don't know Chat Noir. I don't know Ladybug. Or what it's like to wield a Miraculous. But I know Adrien. He is worth more than any name. He is worth more than some magic jewelry. You are worth more than Chat Noir."

There's a fragile hope in his eyes as the tears flowed, so delicate the softest pressure would shatter it. He reached out to her tentatively but paused halfway. So she closed the distance and embraced his lightly shaking form. They stayed that way for a while.

They’re disasters as parents but they try their best and are always having fun - Nori adores them! In their house not a minutes goes by without someone laughing, they’re all super loud and cheerful always~ neither of them has any problem dealing with Nori’s quirk, Sero has spent a whole lifetime learning how to deal with sticky stuff and tape and glue so he knows all the tricks to save clothes and furniture from accidental quirk usage and so on, while Mina’s own quirk makes it easy to counter any glue that might end on her - the main thing actually is that the quirk itself was a surprise! Since Nori looks a lot like Mina, both she and Sero had expected her to have acid like Mina so when she started gluing herself around in places and walking along walls and stuff it was a surprise (they had expected to have to deal with the house being constantly half destroyed by acid though, so glue is nothing compared to that haha)

Sketchbooks From Over The Last Seven Years

I have a box of sketchbooks and random sketches that I’ve been adding to since I was about 12. Today I went through it all and I decided I’d make a post about it because. idk. why not I guess? So obviously its not every page of every book but like if anyone wants to go through about 7 years of bad sketchbooks and loose sketches and doodles its under the cut. Some nudity

.Going through this sucked a little because like who in the world ever wants to go through their middle school art??? Its hard not to get rid of that stuff because like not only does it suck but it makes me remember middle school and things like anime club and like. ew. But it’s nice to see how much less I suck at this, even if i’m not nearly as talented as I’d like to be. It also makes me sad to think of art i’ve lost, even if it was bad. I don’t have pretty much anything that I did digitally from like age 13-16 because I either deleted it or lost it when a computer broke because i didnt back that up since I didnt think id care but l kinda wish I still had some of that stuff, just like to compare improvement over such a big time period.

I wanted to find some of my actual finished art to post with this, but I couldn’t find it today, so it’s only sketchbook stuff (but I dont finish a lot of things anyway lol). Maybe I’ll make another post comparing old things I actually finished with new stuff once I can find it because I know it’s around here somewhere anyway heres sketchbooks!!

This is from 7th grade, so I guess I was 12. It’s god fucking awful, complete with drawings of memes (which I will spare u from), slenderman fan art, and a weird message about my middle school bike, which I still have in my garage, being stolen, which it never was. And the brakes do work.

1. Do you remember the episode/scene/chapter that you first started shipping 6?

Actually, I hadn’t played much of the game when one of my best friends was shipping it really hard XD; At that point in my life, I wasn’t really playing Pokemon games, so she spoiled me with a description of the ferris wheel scene and the premise of their working relationship. I thought it was interesting then, but it wasn’t until I was reading them in Pokemon Special that I thought, hey, this ship has so damn much potential (even though the manga seemed to be actively trying to ship White with Black, the tension and relationship development between N and Touko still felt far more natural and well-written to me).

2. Have you ever read a fanfic about 2?

Quite a few, thankfully, and off the top of my head, I remember the one called Magikarp Jump XDDD

3. Has a picture of 4 ever been your screensaver/profile picture/tumblr screensaver?

I think they were a wallpaper on my old computer years ago! ...For the past two or three years, it’s been alternating between Gladion + Pokemon and Tales of Vesperia ^^;

4. If 7 were to suddenly break up today, what would your reaction be?

THEY DIDN’T EVEN GET A HAPPY ENDING. I MEAN. SHE TURNED BACK INTO A DUCK. //SOBS PAINFULLY//

5. Why is 1 so important?

Honestly, I don’t know. When I first played Sun and Moon, I loved Gladion, but I’d not thought of shipping them until one of my best friends mentioned she did. At that time, I was reading the SM arc of Pokespe, and the characterization of Moon there very much supported the very small hints of the Protagonist’s personality in the game (which were honestly so few that she ultimately felt almost like a blank slate, but not completely). I loved this characterization, and the more I got to know this Moon and think about her in context of the original plot, the more I realised that the two of them would make a wonderful ship. And somehow, the moment I began to start shipping them, I began to sink deep into an abyss I didn’t even consider dangerous. Due to life and lack of motivation/inspiration, I hadn’t really been drawing or writing very much for a few years, but when I began to draw and write Lona.... I couldn’t stop. I’ve been throwing out Lona art constantly (at an alarming rate; at least, alarming for me) for over a year now, and I don’t seem to be able to stop. ^^; Lonashipping seems to be the largest reason why I’ve gone back to drawing and painting so much, and spending hours poring over references and painting and dying over environments. It’s been a crazy, but awesome fun year, and I’m really grateful for it. I still have much to learn, but I feel like I’ve really improved compared to how I was art-ing a year or two ago, and I hope to be able to progress steadily from now on, too. Now all I have to do is get my writing to the same level of progression..... *laughs unsteadily*

BOTH.

7. Out of all the ships listed, which ship has the most chemistry?

They’re all strong ok if they weren’t strong I wouldn’t ship them aosijeoaisjeoia But as far as what actual canon goes.... Fakir and Ahiru are probably the closest to actually having admitted their feelings for each other Even if the ship still isn’t canon in the end BECAUSE SHE TURNED BACK INTO A DUCK.

9. How many times have your read/played/watched 10’s fandom?

Since this is based on the Pokespe incarnation... I’ve read vols 1-9 at least 20 times over by now, I think, while the RSE arc up to about 3 times over? And everything else after that once or so.

10. Which ship has lasted the longest?

Probably Specialshipping, since it’s the oldest one in that list XD

11. How many times, if ever, has 6 broken up?

At least once, when N decided to leave and poor White had to chase after him (evidence in BW2).

12. If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive, 2 or 8?

Naesala and Leanne, because Leanne would just sing her galdr to bless and heal all the zombies while Naesala kept her safe XDD

I suppose Ahiru/Fakir since they’re pretty much sunk by plot with no real possible comeback unless you use canon divergence or headcanons ;w;

AMA Transcript: Simple Melody

For our final AMA of Resbang 2017, @alliope, @bbbutterfingers & @daciafu stopped in to answer questions about their Resbang, Simple Melody! Here’s some of what went down:

Q: My first question for Allie is what inspired you to do this AU?

Allie: Well I've generally had the idea for an Over the Garden Wall AU for a while, not necessarily for SE, but as the first check-ins deadline was approaching I ended up rewatching bits of Over the Garden Wall and it just kinda clicked? Mainly I think it came from Crona's betrayal and Beatrice's betrayal and everything fell into place from there. I thought the eerie atmospheres would work well together! So I ended up scrapping my previous idea and wrote 3k plus a summary like three days before the first check-ins, rip.

Q: For butter/dacia, what went into how you decided which scene(s) to art?

butterfingers: HM well there was some chitchat when we started about what kind of work we wanted to do and I said that I loved the Boom comics covers, and then I shouted WHAT IF I MADE COMIC BOOK COVERS! and I think Dacia went WHAT IF I DID BACKGROUNDS and I guess we just approached it as if we were doing something comic-y haha!

Allie: You two were the power duo.

daciafu: I've always been in love with the style of the backgrounds of OTGW since that's where all those cozy and spooky feelings of fall and the Unknown really shine and I'm honestly HORRIBLE at designing backgrounds so I wanted to take the challenge and push myself to get better! Mimicking other people's styles really helps me break down how they make their choices and teaches me how to make things look Decent so I was super hyped to pick up the OTGW style! And then when Butters and I were trying to figure out What Do and she said she wanted to tackle covers, I decided to do background-heavy scenes. 😊

Q: What is generally your guys’ process (writing for Allie and arting for butters and dacia)?

Allie: Well, I wrote in little scenes, like I would get an idea for a scene and just go for it, the fic wasn't at all coherent until maybe a few days before posting. This actually posed a problem since linking scenes took longer than I thought it would. Because I had most of my scenes written, I thought I had more finished than I really did. By the end of Resbang, I had 56k written but only 20k remotely post-able. I'm a super obsessive planner though, so my whole fic was outlined in detail early on, which was nice cause I knew what I was doing lol

butterfingers: I loved going through Allie's notes, I was always excited to see how they'd connect the dots! My art process is as follows: scribble something, put it aside, look at it a lot throughout the day with the thought that maybe I can surprise myself into seeing something new, find something I hate, fix it, rinse and repeat. For this project I actually... have a friend who works with Boom Comics and she was able to hook me up with a nice little gallery of illustrations for the OTGW comic so I got to go through and put together my mood board for it 😊

daciafu: I read over the gloriousness that was Allie's draft and immediately picked out some neat scenes or wanted to reimagine the classic OTWG ones. I spent a lot of time studying first! Looking at the art books, and poring over the show’s scenes and kind of getting a feel for the color palettes, textures and compositions. Then I watched a tutorial on Youtube where someone just deadass uploaded their painting process on a piece of official art that made it into the show. So that was EXTREMELY helpful to watch the way they painted back-to-front and kind of blended the planes without like, losing depth?? The internet is so, so wonderful. And then I got to work! Started with a soft brush for lineart so it wouldn't be too prevalent, moved onto base colors, then shading, and then really trying to establish textures and make the atmosphere Just Right(tm).

butterfingers: Genius!! Oh damn that sounds like such great advice vis à vis backgrounds. /takes notes

Q: You sound like the dream art partner Allie, I weep for my artists and my last minute HERE IS 10K I JUST TYPED UP BC IM A MESS.

Allie: Ahh geez, these two were the dream partners honestly, like I'm so glad they could gather stuff from my notes, cause I've always got everything together in my head, but then it gets out there and it's a mess, these two deserve all the love.

butterfingers: There was one thing I regret that I didn't have the chance to draw and it was like a throwaway line somewhere in your notes about Maka presenting Soul with a praying mantis and him freaking out. I resonated with that so hard hahaha.

Q: What was the hardest scene for you to write?

Allie: The hardest scene to write that's actually posted was anything with Justin really, I don't get his character and it was tough to write him. There were a few scenes that were hard to write because I rushed them, but I wouldn't say they were genuinely difficult scenes, I just gotta rewrite 'em! But overall the ending scene I'm still struggling to write and there's a dream scene that occurs which has been difficult to write just for making it dream-like enough?

Q: And what was the hardest to art? :o

butterfingers: I had a hard time with Maka's expressions. I had many scribbles designing a Ragnarok lantern, too, but it was very fun!!

Allie: Your design for the Ragnarok lantern was so good, I still cry over it.

butterfingers: Ahaha thank you! He was very Calcifer inspired ;)

daciafu: I struggled quite a bit with the first one I painted, just because it was all so new to me. I had to base color 3 different times because the soft lineart bothered me if something extended too far, or there was white background peeking through. And then reimagining the texture in the leaves and the ground to try to separate the planes there but also wanting them to be cohesive was a bit of a headache. If I had to go back and do that one over again I think I'd be more prepared to deal with the foliage lmao.

butterfingers: Your textures were very excellent, that was a quality I struggled with as well!

daciafu: The first one I painted was the Golden Light scene where Maka and Soul are leaving the woods and entering the fields.

butterfingers: Trees r hard.

Allie: They all came out so incredible though, I'm in awe of how you were able to create those leaves.

daciafu: Omg ;;;;; At the same time trees are so organic and flowy and the chances of getting them wrong are pretty slim considering they can get janked as hell lol they're super fun to just zone out to. "I’ll just put a happy little leaf here, ooh and how’s about another one right next to it. They can be happy friends. Oh look, the squad showed up!!" Channeling my inner Bob Ross... but yeah you can just do whatever with them and they somehow come together.

Q: Daciafu how do u.....background, like you did so well and all I hear from art friends is various levels of pterodactyl screeching when the word background is mentioned.

daciafu: I heavily based the Leafing the Forest scene and the church scene after stills from the show so I don't get composition points there, but I built the pumpkin fields just based off of the environment’s design elements. I really wanted to push the depth of that scene but also give it that same never-ending quality to it, and I'm super happy with the results. Another note is that I omitted the characters entirely while building the backgrounds. Since I'm usually a pretty character-heavy artist, I wanted to tackle it like I was preparing the scene for an animator later. And then once they were done, I added in our sweet kids. Doing it that way first really helped to cement the characters in the space rather than my usual "character is done, how can I put them in an interesting physical space?" struggle lmao.

Q: Did you guys feel like your writing/arting changed at all or that you learned anything/picked up new skills/honed old ones etc. etc. during Resbang?

Allie: Gosh yeah, it changed a lot. In hindsight a bad idea, but this was the first fic I'd ever written with intention of posting and the longest piece I'd ever written. Before this I had written very little and my longest piece was maybe 10k. Throughout Resbang I've learned most of everything from the ground up, it's taught me a lot about my limits, how I work and writing in general. I've definitely improved a lot from the experience!

butterfingers: Let me tell you all about the airbrush tool that I discovered during Resbang. Amazing. Incredible.

daciafu: I learned how to paint backgrounds!!! Which is something I've always wanted to get better at. And I got super comfortable in Clip Studio (I'd just gotten it) as well as using texture brushes, so overall it was a very helpful and wonderful experience as a Resbang participant and as an arteest.

Q: Oh that reminds me butters, what program do you use?

butterfingers: Paint Tool SAI for the most part, and then Photoshop for color correction, borders, and, like, finesse things! :)

Q: Did you guys listen to any music that inspired you or helped you create?

If you want I can explain some bits of it? I use music a lot when writing aha. I like to associate certain songs with characters and character relationships, so most of the songs are connected to a particular part of the story. The Monroe Transfer, Wayfaring Stranger, and Mountains were all more general atmosphere stuff. Blame was very much related to Maka, which may not be apparent now, but yeah. Ragnarok I actually connected a lot with Willow Tree March. Soul was probably closest with A Lady. Crona had a lot of songs, but Neptune was most specific to them, as was probably Ghost Towns. Some character relationships I associated with certain songs, Crona-Ragnarok and Soul-Maka were both pretty connected to Always Gold, especially that dang last line "there were holes in you, the kind that I could not mend" oh man. Crona-Maka was definitely We Could Be Friends, Bloom, and Spell. Meet Me in The Woods I thought was a pretty good group song! Those are just some general bits of my thinking with the music aha.

daciafu: Definitely checked out Allie's dope playlist. For most of my working time, tho, I was either listening to TAZ: Commitment or MBMBaM oddly enough lol. I will forever think of Justin's uproarious laughter whenever I look at them lmao.

Q: Were any of the relationships difficult to characterize?

Allie: Mmm this may sound weird but early Maka-Crona was weird for me, cause they were kinda at that point where they want to (or at least Maka wants to) like each other, but they don’t like or trust each other at all and it's a weird spot for them. I'm used to writing them as at least interested by one another, if not enemies or already fond of one another, so this felt like a very odd place to start with them.

Q: Do you guys have future plans for writing/drawing? Aside from polishing and posting the rest of the fic!

Allie: I have,,, too many plans,, I need less plans,, someone please take them away from me, I can't be trusted with them,,,, I do want to do a sequel for this when I get it finished, playing on the detail about crows memory lasting five years so. Beyond that I have a SoMa fic to finish for the prompt challenge!! I'm working on a gift for Crescentcrona, which is a fantasy Kirona fic called Eat The Rich. I have polyam week fics that I'm cleaning up, I think my favorite so far is a Azusa/Naigus/Sid/Mifune one for Through The Seasons. And God I have so many CroMa fics I want to write, I gotta fill the AO3 tag. I think the biggest one right now is a wings-related soulmates au that I've been working on on the side since October I think?

daciafu: Yo there's one scene that I'm like sUPER hyped to do if Allie does the sequel because I already know exactly how I wanna draw it but I wasn't able to fit that in near the end, and it didn't end up in the first part. But there are a couple of other scenes Allie and I workshopped that would be super fun to do and I would love to draw them. Other than that, my drawing plans are pretty much working on commissions as they come in. Surprisingly my queue has been maxed out and I just got a full time job so of course now I'm like.... hm.... I'll get 'em done eventually!!

You picked up your friend Jia’s next call, your groggy hello met with the sound of her excited screaming. “Y/N! You’re famous! You’re all over the internet today?”

Groaning, you rolled over and checked the time. 8:37, too early for anything. “What?”

“I said, you’re internet famous,” she said. “Strawberry Shortcake just hit it big.”

That shot you awake. You jolted upright and pulled your laptop towards you, logging in and opening your tumblr. “What? Oh my god.”

“I know!” Jia squealed. “Oh my god! You totally deserve it, Y/N, you’ve worked so hard on it. Congratulations!”

Your activity page had numbers you’d never seen before. Reblogs with comments. Your inbox, full. You felt dizzy. “I’ll call you back, Jia,” you said. You didn’t wait before you hung up.

What had just happened?

Opening a new tab, you typed ‘strawberry shortcake tumblr’ into the search bar – and nearly fainted at the results. The first link was your tumblr. The second was an article about it. About you. About your webtoon.

You’re right, it is intentional, but there aren’t any dark secrets coming up...yet. Haha. Jin-ho is that very cliche k-drama character isn’t he! Hot and cold and handsome as hell. I have a lot of fun drawing him. ;) And yeah, neither of them treat Yoon-ah right, but that’s plot progression for you. I’ve already confirmed on this blog that she will end up with one of the two. The ending is still a long ways away but I hope it’s satisfactory!

my original writing alias when i was still writing was kimura yumi, named after my dragon nest character after looking up japanese names and their meanings (look 12y/o shao was a huge japanophile shh) before realising there was a real person named kimura youmi (the singer of itsumo nando demo)

and afterwards i took this online test thing that would tell you your name in japanese and i got inoue sachiyo

and then i decided to mash both together and got sachiyoumi / sachiyo yumi and it just stuck ever since LOL

i wish i had the creativity for a cooler alias though, now thinking back o)-(

plus it coincides with my real name initials ssssso yeah. its hella cool.

now i barely write still, but i lean towards monster oneshots now so i tend to plot out and find references for better clarity ^^ though finishing them and posting them is another story altogether LOL

not really,,,? but i’ve only ever written one (complete) story to date, and the comments on it have been rather heartwarming (i’m glad it was to your liking...!)

“Heroes of the Fourth Turning,” Will Arbury’s much-acclaimed play about a gathering of former classmates at a conservative Catholic college in Wyoming, not only worked amazingly well as a Zoom play last week; in some ways, it improved on the production at Playwrights Horizons last October.

This is a crazy thing to say, for two reasons. First, the stage production could not have been more highly praised: It swept local awards, including two Obies (one for Arbery, one for the entire team; the citation was for “five brilliant performances, four remarkable designs, and a powerfully focused vision guiding them all.”) The playwright was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

And second: Plays presented on Zoom as “readings” are generally tolerated rather than savored – an adjustment we’ve grudgingly made to an imperfect technology because of shut theaters and social distancing.

When I saw the play on stage, however, I found it terrifically acted, intellectually stimulating, at times wondrously eerie — and also too long and too dark. And by too dark, I meant it literally; the play takes place late at night in a dimly lit backyard. Arbery has told interviewers that more theatergoers walked out of the play because of the low lighting than because they disagreed with the characters’ politics (Arbery disgrees with their politics too, by the way, which is one reason why his respectful treatment of the characters is so impressive.)

The Play-PerView’s one-time streaming of the play eliminated both issues for me, the darkness, and somehow also the length. The characters seemed to be communicating with one another together under the stars, rather than from their disparate homes. (We saw black, not their furniture.) And even some of the long philosophical rants kept me spellbound.

The playwright himself was impressed: “It has the spirit of theater — liveness, risk, access to the hidden….a vision right now of what theater can be. Danya Taymor is my hero.”

So I asked Danya Taymor, director of “Heroes of the Fourth Turning,” for an interview. She agreed to a remote encounter; she happens to be on a ranch in Wyoming (the state where “Heroes of the Fourth Turning” takes place!)

Taymor, “The Lion King” director Julie Taymor’s 31-year-old niece, has made a name for herself in the theater over the couple of years – helming such fine and disparate works as Martyna Majok’s “Queens,” Antoinette Nwandu’s “Pass Over” and Jeremy O. Harris’s “Daddy.” During the pandemic, she has directed short plays for Viral Monologues and one by Arbery for The Homebound Project # 2 She also helmed a benefit reading of “Uncle Vanya,” which will be presented online soon on behalf of the Broadway Advocacy Coalition and the Actors Fund, with the starry cast Samira Wiley, Constance Wu, Mia Katigbak, Manik Choksi, Alan Cumming, Anson Mount, K. Todd Freeman, Ellen Burstyn and Taymor’s boyfriend, the Tony-winning actor (for Matilda) Gabriel Ebert. “Heroes was my first experience directing a live show, ” Taymor says, “and I think that liveness is a big part of why it felt so electric on Saturday night.”

In the interview, which has been edited, Taymor talks about what livestream can do that theater can’t, and vice-versa, how they translated the stage to screen, and how she and the playwright have a Wyoming connection, or at least a “Wyoming” one.

How did you react to the idea of mounting “Heroes of The Fourth Turning” online?

I have to admit, part of me had a gut reaction of “no.” How could we possibly deliver even close to one tenth of what we were able to deliver in the theater? Would this be a watered down version? Would we even be able to get the play across?

Then Will, the cast, the designers and I started to talk about darkness, about liveness, about how to best deliver Will’s words and expose the world of the play in a new medium. Honoring the medium of the livestream really helped us figure out what it can do that theater can’t do,

How did you honor the medium of livestream? What could it do that theater can’t?

I think that what we were able to do with the live broadcast of Heroes was the closest thing I’ve felt to “theater” since the pandemic started and we’ve all been isolated, and that’s in some part because we committed to making it ephemeral. It existed in this way one time, on July 18th at 8pm EST, and now it will live on in the memories and imaginations of those who saw it, and nowhere else. That gave the performance itself an exciting danger and buzz and required total fearlessness from the actors.

The biggest tool we had that we don’t have in the theater is the close-up. Access to every tiny miniscule facial movement, every whisper and sigh, every glance. I think that in some ways, the text made a bigger impact at times over the livestream because of the intimacy of the camera and the incredible expressiveness of the human face. Will and I found that this version of Heroes was most compelling when the actors played for each other. We adapted the acting styles and of course modified the staging to play into what Zoom can deliver that a stage cannot. It allowed for subtlety that is sometimes absent in the theater simply because you want to reach the folks sitting at the back of the house.

And what couldn’t it do that theater can?

The biggest difference is the absence of a live, vocal audience. In live theater, the audience is absolutely another player in the piece. Theater brings bodies together in space. It was a thrill to know that 2,200 people were simultaneously watching this as Jeb, Zoe, Julia, Michele and John performed it live, but it isn’t quite the same as sharing space and breathing in the same air. You can’t go for a drink with a stranger that you sat next to and talk about the play afterwards. You lose the physical intensity of live theater, though I do feel that this company brought the ferociousness of their physical performances to the livestream as well.

What’s the most tangible difference between what it took to put together this play, and what it took to put together the Viral Monologue and the Homebound Project monologue?

A huge advantage we had on Heroes is that we all got to spend time in space together rehearsing and performing this play for four months in 2019. These actors fused with their characters, and they brought all that cellular memory to this process. I think it would be much more challenging to achieve something like Heroes when you are building it from day one. Not impossible, but we had the advantage of all that work and time together, a collective memory of the thing and what it felt like. The Viral Monologues were more like gesture drawings to me, quick sketches from the gut that are beautiful and powerful in their simplicity. And those were 5 minutes long maximum. Heroes is 2 hours and 20 minutes, so finding and nailing that rhythm was so important, and we worked hard to achieve it.

Can you walk me through the process of translation from stage to screen?

We did our first read through and it was clear we had to shake off the version we were doing for the live audience at Playwrights Horizons. But we also discovered gems, like the fact that the darkest, quietest scenes could be more themselves in this new medium than was perhaps even possible in the theater. That first read was such a good diagnostic test for us to see how the camera and the performance were functioning together.

The biggest change was embracing a physical stillness, not playing everything dead on to the camera, and letting the space still feel like it was in 360 instead of flat forward. The Playwrights production had so much embodiment, so much physicality and that just didn’t translate. The end for instance, there was an incredible physicality to that moment in the production, and Julia was able to harness that deep knowing of what the monologue needs to do, and lean entirely on the text to achieve the same effect.

The prologue was another thing that needed to be adapted. In the live theatrical version, you encounter the stage in total darkness, live with shadow and light. We knew we couldn’t have a curtain speech, and tried to adapt the prologue as best we could: When the audience entered the zoom, there was Justin (Jeb Kreager), meditative and near invisible in the darkness, pre show birdsong playing. I think we were able to translate that blinking-through-darkness-into-light thing that was so effective in the production.

Each actor also had a costume consultation with our incredible costume designer Sarafina Bush, who went into the actors closets with them on FaceTime, picking out each article of clothing and working with Isabella and myself to get the perfect visual aesthetic of these folks. Justin Ellington, our tremendous sound designer, actually ran sound live on Saturday night because only he had the equipment to make it sound good. Normally a stage manager would run these cues, and it is a real art, and Justin stepped up in a brilliant way. Another distinction was that when characters left the stage, they left their cameras rolling so that their squares could become the dark night.

One distinct difference from a regular Zoom play that anybody who watched the show would notice is that, rather than seeing the actors’ homes in the background, the backgrounds were all black. How did you come up with that, was it difficult to accomplish, is this what Will Arbery was talking about when he Tweeted about “makeshift caves” and “moonlight rigs”?

When we first began talking about doing the presentation in the first place, we knew we needed to preserve the feeling of that expansive Wyoming night. Isabella [Byrd, the lighting designer] had some incredible ideas about how to achieve that darkness, and we scheduled lighting fittings with each member of the cast.

These actors performed that magic in their bathrooms, bedrooms, tiny spare rooms, and each of them created their own lighting setup that allowed for the unified sense of darkness. This was no easy feat, and truly amazing that they could deliver the performances they did standing alone in rooms with their laptops piled up on stacks of books, with black duvateen draped behind them.

If you don’t mind my asking, how did you wind up in Wyoming now? Is it just a coincidence that “Heroes of the Fourth Turning” is set in the state?

Great question! My pull to Wyoming began when I was directing a play by Brian Watkins for Lesser America back in 2015 called “Wyoming.” Actually that play was the first time Will Arbery saw my work too; I think that’s how I first landed on Will’s radar I fell in love with the world of “Wyoming,” and knew that I needed to get out here and see this mystic land in person.

I think I’ve been here five times, including one trip I made the winter before we began rehearsals for [the Playwrights Horizons production of] Heroes. That trip was so important. [Boyfriend] Gabe and I drove from Jackson to Dubois, Wyoming, where good friends of ours run a ranch called three spear ranch. The time I spent at three spear directly inspired so many of the design choices we made in the Playwrights production of Heroes….that darkness, that expanse, the house with the single porch light, the charge of that land, the history of the land and the silent scream you can hear if you are listening hard enough. One night we hiked up a hill near the ranch. It was close to midnight and there was a full moon. When we got to the top of the hill I gasped because all the horses on the ranch, and there are 1500 acres here, were all together on the top of the hill together, lit only with moonlight. That was when I felt the feeling of Heroes and began trying to figure out how to translate that for our production.

The weekend before we began rehearsal [for the livestream), I drove from Dubois to Lander, Wyoming, where Will’s family lives and where Wyoming Catholic College is located. WCC is the basis for Transfiguration college of Wyoming in the play. I was able to spend a few hours with Will’s parents and two of his sisters and their kids. We spent a few invaluable hours talking about the play, about the state of the world, the future and the past. It was an incredible afternoon and it definitely inspired me in a new way right before returning to the play.

Did the Wyoming part of Brian Watkins’ play “Wyoming” have anything to do with why you and Will Argery clicked?

The Wyoming part is definitely a part, but only one of many many things I love and admire about Will and what I think brought us together.

One Last Original Content(TM) Post Before I Migrate To The “Diary-Only” Blog

in case the title is misleading, i ought to clarify that i’m still keeping this blog open, just that it’ll only be for reblogs, while all personal text stuff will be in Falcone Chronicles. (it’s still empty at the moment.) easier to find shit that way. anyway, i thought i should probably give an update on my current life situation, since the last time i wrote at length i think was pre-moving, and stuff was all dicey back then so i’m afraid i might have inadvertently caused people to worry because of the (relative) radio silence. i mean, i do reblog stuff so clearly you know i’m still alive, but probably you might be wondering about everything else i said i was doing/going to do. a bit egoistic of me to assume that the affairs of my life are cause for interest to anyone else, but, well, on more than one occasion i’ve found out that my existence apparently meant more to someone else than i thought it did, and it was really awkward and everything but anyway, the point is, i guess i’ll just be on the safe side and give an update so nobody worries. probably better to be perceived as narcissistic than to accidentally freak somebody out making them wonder indefinitely what the fuck happened to me.

in summary, 3 things happened: a) i graduated from university b) i got a job c) i moved out of my parents’ house technically i start work in august, but i list it in that order because i got the job offer before i moved out, so to my mind that comes first chronologically. so....that’s why i haven’t been writing very consistently in july. there was a lot of stuff going on, pre-work health checkup, two graduations - two (2)!!! i didn’t want to go for either of them, but you know how asian parents get with their kids’ achievements. i figured since i’m already being an unfilial child and moving out of their house and paying some random landlord rent instead of giving them the rent money (i’m still giving them money, just not as much as i could have if i wasn’t also paying rent), i might as well just give them this one pleasure. there’s free food at the ceremonies, anyway, so i saved on two days of food. they’re going to both of my brother’s graduations as well. and yes, that apostrophe is in the correct place. i have one brother. he has two (2) degrees as well. we are overachieving siblings. i pity my sister. maybe by the time she’s old enough for university she’ll be pressured into taking 3.

so.....that’s what i’ve been doing for the past month! enjoying independent life. everything’s.....pretty good so far. i didn’t get as much done as i’d envisioned i would before the move, but that’s fine, i guess. i wrongly assumed i’d have the entire july to draw and write and compose but uhhhh nope there was graduation(s) and there was pre-work health checkup and there was graduation photoshoot and there was me being an idiot and signing up for a career focus group even though i already have a job secured. i did get $20 for participating, so LOL. for a while i attempted to SocialiseTM by joining this “art journaling” club in which you meet every monday night and draw stuff according to a theme the group leader will suggest, and then after you draw you share about the stuff, but uhhh.........nope. HAHA. the point was really to try and become more......i don’t want to say “neurotypical”, because that makes it sound like i’m not - uhhhhh, i don’t know how to explain this - i wanted to be “perfect”. like connor the android from dbh. “my appearance and voice were specifically designed to enhance my integration with humans”/ “i can be whatever you want me to be, lieutenant. your partner, your buddy to drink with, or just a machine, accomplishing a task.” i wanted to be the Model Citizen, “always accomplish(ing) my mission”. and like, i have my academics, i have my music, i have my art - but my social skills.......are shit, to put it bluntly. and like that’s been the biggest problem in my life. that’s why i gave up law to go into scientific research. the workload doesn’t faze me, it’s the social aspect of the law industry that scares me. like, my friends who are working now, they have to go to their bosses’ CNY parties?!?!?! i will just die, okay??! in the lab, i don’t have to worry about the appropriate amount of eye contact to make. i don’t have to make small talk. i don’t have to worry about body language because i’ll just be hunched over my microscope and my specimens all day long. my boss and colleagues won’t care if i can’t understand their jokes over drinks nights. and.....i’m really, really happy to have this job, don’t get me wrong, it is like, 90-95% of the way to an ideal situation already (the ideal situation would be a microbiology or genomic lab, not radiobiology, but what even are the odds of getting exactly what you want? this is already as close to perfect as possible, and i’m really glad for it.) but sometimes i feel like a failure, giving up on a lucrative career because i didn’t want to put the effort into improving my social skills. but then again, i moved out because i didn’t wanna act for my parents, so why the hell should i have to act for strangers? so i decided, fuck it, i’m gonna just - be me, i guess. i’m gonna do whatever the fuck weird things i wanna do so long as they don’t hurt anybody. if i wanna eat the same fucking thing every day imma do it. if i wanna sit at my computer and rewatch a 3-second clip of a cat saying “nooooo” for hours on end i’mma do it. if i don’t wanna hang out i shan’t hang out. i’m done trying to please everyone. i earned my freedom (well, technically still paying for it, i have SO MUCH STUDENT LOANS :O) and i’m gonna spend it damn well how i please. it ain’t illegal nor morally wrong to sit at home and stare at fish all day.

that.....turned into a bit of a weird rant there, but it’s not too overly emotional or depressing so i guess i’ll leave it up, lol. anyway, there you go, that’s what i’ve been up to. see you in the other blog, if you wanna read about my personal life. if not, well - see you in this one, in which i just reblog stuff? lmao.
