Masterlist | All Stories Taglist | All Chapters
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wanda checks her watch nervously. She had arrived at the office thirty minutes early to mentally prepare for the appointment. She wasn't sure what she was going to discover in that room. All she knew was that the idea made her feel ill. Her mind jumps to all of the people she slept with and she begins to feel like an idiot. Her leg bounces nervously as she thinks about how she will be judged by the doctor. It won't happen in front of her but she's almost certain it will happen.Â
âWanda Maximoff?â Her head snaps up at her name being called. âI'm ready to see you now.â Wanda nods and rises as she collects her things. She was going to be fine. Agatha swears by therapy. She was going to be fine. This was the next step to getting better and getting on with her life.Â
You are standing in the backyard of your former home. âYou wanted to show me my own craft space?â You ask with arms crossed over your chest.Â
âNo, we wanted to show you our future craft space,â Jean says and Anna waves her arms around as she presents a stack of boxes where your tools and materials used to be laid out.Â
âWhat's this? You know that I need the space when I get an order. I know itâs been a while but itâs not just for me. Iâve been able to help you guys with the money I make from this side job. Itâs not some frivolous hobby,â you walk around the room.Â
âYes, well, itâs actually been a year â close to a year and Iâm pretty sure we were your last customers,â Jean says. âBesides, since weâre going to have all of this time we thought would be occupied by a baby⊠We want to make it into a craft space.âÂ
You clamp your mouth shut as you look at the boxes. It wasnât fair for them to throw that in your face but this scenario was eerily similar to the one youâd witnessed with Wandaâs basement and Vision. You couldnât stoop as low as that man so you sighed and nodded. âOkay, can you give me time to find somewhere to store it all? I donât have the space right now.âÂ
âSure,â Jean says, âjust please donât take too long. I have a lot of ideaâs and Iâm excited. Well. Weâre excited.â She pulls her wife close to her and the two share a kiss. You find their behavior to be odd but you donât think about it too much.Â
âOkay,â you drag out. âI should get going. I need to do some grocery shopping and make some phone calls to see who will be willing to store my things until I can find a better place.â You walk through the gate to get to your car as they allow you to go. You scroll through your contacts to see who you can trust with your tools and supplies. You pause for a moment when you see Daisyâs contact. You know that you didnât love her the way she deserved but it still hurt to see her name. You decide to leave that task for when youâre home because you needed to focus.Â
You walk around the store with this nagging feeling that you should contact Daisy for some reason. You didnât understand it. In the time since she ended things with you, you havenât wanted to contact her once. Maybe it was because things with Wanda have crashed and burned alive. You donât know, but you had to fight it because it wouldnât be fair for you to try and insert yourself in her life again. As you shop you recignize her friend and you canât stop yourself from saying hi. Because you mistakenly feel as though that would be rude. âHey, Jemma!â You greet with as smile.Â
Her eyes go wide and she almost runs but instead turns around smiles back. âY/n, itâs been a while. How have you been?âÂ
You take a deep breath as you mentally run through the chaotic months youâd been having. âIâve been better,â you nod. âYeah, um, how have you been?â
She makes a face and narrows her eyes at you, âLetâs not waste our time here. Iâm not the person you want to know about. Am I?â
Youâre surprised by the implication and you shake your head. âNo, Iâm genuinely curious about you. I wouldnât ever put you in a position to update me about Daisy. She made it very clear that she wanted me out of her life.âÂ
Jemmaâs eyes scan you and she nods. âIâve been well. Daisy, however, not so much. Iâm telling you this because she is going to reach out to you soon. As much as I donât like you, you do deserve the warning.âÂ
Your eyebrows twitch and you frown slightly, that was not what you expected to hear. âOh, I hope I can help her with whatever it is. I just⊠Sheâs not going to try and get back together right?â
Jemma bursts out laughing and you smile and nod as she makes a big show of her amusement. âIâve forgotten how funny you are!â She points at you with a grin. âNo! She doesnât want you back!âÂ
âIâm sorry,â you say as you try not to roll your eyes at her reaction. It was unnecessary. âJust, let her know that she can contact me whenever she wants. Iâll see you around, Jemma. Or maybe I wonât.â You walk away and continue to shop for the week. You go home and put your groceries away and donât think about Daisy the rest of the day.
Wanda sits in her office and goes over her budget proposal for the project she was assigned. The company has been trying to score her former in-lawâs as a client for years. She knew Stark Industries was a big corporation when she married into the family. Itâs what paid for this house. Itâs what allowed her to not work for six months. Itâs what has paid for her new land. But for some reason she still feels weird about using her relationship to the Starks to help this company land them as a client. It made her realize why they probably hired her in the first place even with the unexplained unemployment gap after being fired from her previous firm. She runs through the proposal a couple more times and hopes that this doesnât create a rift with the people she was getting to build a healthier relationship with.Â
When she feels confident about the proposal she sets it aside and starts to work on the digital blueprint of her dream home. It has gone from sketches to utilizing the program on her computer to draft together a more visual representation of what she wants her house to look like. She has lots of windows and an open floor plan. She knows where she wants a dining room and how she wants the kitchen to look like. The second floor has a den space and an office space and multiple bedrooms. Then she considers adding a third floor but thinks it might be too much.Â
She starts to shuffle the rooms around and considers moving the office to the ground floor. Then she adds a basement. Then she takes it away. She plays around with the design until her stomach grumbles and she is reminded that she has to eat. She shut down her work and walks downstairs to make herself something to eat. As she sets out ingredients, she fantasizes about you standing in the kitchen helping her. She wonders if you'd wrap your arms around her and kiss her cheek as she chopped vegetables. She thinks about how easily she could melt against your body. She allows herself to think about moments she could have with you without making herself feel guilty about it. She's tired of feeling guilty for wanting a better life for herself.Â
As she lays on the couch and watches a show that she has been binging lately she mindlessly traces the letters M, I, N, E, on her upper thigh. In her mind, it's a memory of you, but really it's only another fantasy. She doesn't know why she can't just give in. She doesn't know why she pushes you away. She knows she shouldn't have but she also knows that she probably would have hurt you. She takes a deep breath and sighs.Â
She walks up to her bed as her mind prepares her for waking up early the next morning. The mental checklist of what she has to take care of tomorrow. What she should wear for her meeting with Tony. What she should make herself for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Should she go out? Should she anticipate Tony offering to take her to lunch?Â
She thinks about the therapy sessions she has scheduled for the next several weeks. She thinks about wanting to hang out with her friends. Then as she closes her eyes, she thinks about you and a small smile lifts up her lips.Â
You are getting ready to take your lunch break when your phone goes off in your pocket. Your heart leaps into your throat when Daisyâs image covers your screen. You answer and start walking away from the job site. âHello?â You say into the phone. There is a loud drilling sound and someone starts banging a hammer on a wall. âHold on, I canât hear you. One second please.â You cross the street and keep walking until you find a quiet area. You sit down on a park bench. âOkay, I can hear you now. Um, hey,â you say as you remove your hardhat. âThis is a surprise. How are you?â
âIs it a surprise? Jemma told me that she warned you I might contact you,â Daisy says.Â
âUh, she did say that but I wasnât sure when to expect your call. So it is still a surprise,â you reply as you run your fingers through your hair. âShe also warned me that youâre not doing too well. Is there something I can do for you?â Daisy goes quiet and you think that the call has dropped, you move the phone from your face to check but the sunlight makes it difficult to tell. âHello?âÂ
âIâm here,â she sighs and you can tell that she is trying to hide that she is crying. You take a deep breath as you brace yourself for what she might tell you. Maybe Phil is terminally ill. Maybe her mom passed. Maybe this, maybe that.Â
âIâm here for you,â you tell her. âNo matter what, itâs okay. You can tell me.âÂ
âI,â her voice cracks and you wish that you could do something more than sit here on the phone with her. âWhat I need to talk to you about is better done in person,â she finally says through her sniffles.Â
âOkay, um where do you want to meet?â You ask. âI donât have Rachel this week so you could come over to my place because it's a lot more private than yours or if you donât want privacy I can go to your place after work. Um or we can meet somewhere public. Iâm willing to do whatever you need.â You softly offer her options. Your heart is pounding from the anticipation. What could be so bad that she had to see you in person?
âIâm okay with coming over to your place,â she replies.Â
âOkay,â you state, âdoes seven-thirty work for you? Iâve been working twelve to thirteen hour shifts to pay those pesky hospital bills.âÂ
âSeven-thirty works,â she answers. âIâll see you then.âÂ
âIâll see you then,â you say as the call ends. You sit on that park bench a little bit longer as you fear what Daisy has to say. What could she possibly be holding on to? What has her in tears? What canât she say over the phone? Your mind races as you eat your lunch. It continues to run as you get back to work and think about what Daisy needs help with.
Wanda laughs with Tony as they sit together in a nice restaurant. Her pitch went well and Tony said that he would consider hiring her for the project. Then he offered to take her to lunch to celebrate. Now the two were discussing highlights of Visionâs finest moments during past holidays. âOh, remember that time he convinced your dad to let him cut the turkey and he nearly cut his finger off?â Wanda says.Â
âHow could I forget? Iâm the one who pointed out that there couldnât be that much blood on a turkey!â Tony laughs as he lifts his glass from the table and swirls it around. He shakes his head. âI have no clue how Iâm related to that man.âÂ
âI donât know either,â Wanda says. âYou are way more fun to be around,â she compliments and they clink their glasses together as they cheers to that.Â
âYou know, Wanda,â Tony starts as he leans in closer. âWhy are you wasting your talents working for a company like Nexus Developments? You are family,â he puts his hand on top of Wandaâs. âWe could have helped you land a job with the company we usually use or hell, we could have made a branch for you.âÂ
Wanda taps Tonyâs hand as she pulls away and slumps back into her seat. âI know that you would have. But I couldnât ask that of you or your family. Vision would have made it about him some how and lately,â she shakes her head as she feels tears building up. She takes a deep breath. âLately, whenever your brother doesnât get his way, my kids pay a price. Hell, even when he does get his way, my kids still suffer.âÂ
Tony nods and takes a drink from his glass, he sighs as the aged scotch goes down smoothly. âI understand your position. Just know that if you ever need help, we are still here for you. Vision can go fuck himself,â he tells her. Wanda laughs a softly as she agrees with his statement. âWho knows, maybe Iâll be able to convince you into a Maximoff and Stark partnership once again. This one being a profitable business instead of an emotional headache.â
Wanda shrugs, âWeâll see. The future is quite unpredictable after all.âÂ
As you walk through the your apartment building you run through the possibilities of the impending conversation over and over in your mind. The scenarios donât stop until you see Daisy pacing in front of your door. You check the time on your watch and fill with relief that youâre not late, sheâs early.Â
âHey,â you say as you sort through your keys to find the one that will unlock the door. Daisy startles as you announce your presence. âSorry, I didn't mean to,â you notice that she doesn't look too good and you just move to open the door. âLet's just,â you hold it open for her and she walks right past you. âWould you like anything to drink? Water maybe?â
Daisy shakes her head. âNo, I don't know how long you'll want me in here after I tell you what I need to tell you.âÂ
You make a face, unsure what she could possibly say that would have you kicking her out of your home. âI have a feeling this is something we should sit for. Come on,â you sit down on the couch and wipe the sweat from your forehead.
âAre you sure you donât want to shower first? Youâve been working hard all day and I know you how much you hate sitting inââ Daisy rambles on as she paces the living room and you have to cut her off.Â
âDaisy, I hate waiting even more,â you tell her. âCome, sit,â you pat the space next to you on the sofa.Â
Daisy stands still and frowns at you. âNo you donât. You are the most patient person I know.âÂ
You nod your head slowly, âI can be patient, thatâs true. But I still hate waiting.â You admit to her. âIâve been worried about you all day, Daisy. I donât want to be pushy but I want to be able to help you. I canât do that if you donât stop stalling and tell me whatâs wrong.âÂ
Daisy sits next to you and drops her face into her hands. You sit there and wait for her to collect her thoughts and say something. Anything that will explain her behavior. You bounce your leg as your body decides to show your impatience. The movement has Daisy moving her hands from her face through her hair. âThe night we broke up I,â the area around her eyes are red and her nose is pink. She doesn't face you because she can't say this and have you look at her differently. She doesn't know where you stand on a topic like this because every conversation the two of you had on the matter was purely hypothetical. She wanted to keep this to herself because she didn't want you to change in her eyes. She likes you the way you are. âI found out that I had um, sorry this is difficult for me to say.âÂ
You hold your hand out to her, âDaisy, it's okay. Whatever it is,â you trail as she turns her head away from you. âAre you sick?â You ask softly as her shoulders shake.Â
She turns her head to stare in front of her as she shakes her head and wipes her tears. âNo, I'm not sick. That's not the kind of results I had received,â she reaches for the box of tissues in the coffee table and blows her nose. âI found out that I was pregnant,â she finally says.Â
You feel your heart stop beating and drop to your stomach. You grow nauseous at the news. âOh,â you grab onto the arm of the couch as if you're going to faint. âI um,â you blink a couple of times. âIs it someone else's?â The words stumble out before you can process the implication.Â
âI never cheated on you,â she states sharply and she looks at you this time.Â
âI'm sorry, I shouldn't have⊠I mean, can you blame me for asking? You didn't tell me until today. You broke up with me instead of telling me. I can't think of why you would do that unless the baby wasn't mine or ââ you stop talking as you look at her and clamp your mouth shut. Daisy avoids your eye contact as you recall her behavior that night. She didn't want to be a mother. She kept telling you that as she tried to leave. âOh,â you react again. The tension in your body releases and you try to figure out how you can address this conversation respectfully. âYou decided not to go through with the um the uh pregnancy? Is that what you're telling me?â You try to keep your tone even and your features neutral, trying to avoid showing any insensitive emotions out of respect.Â
Daisy closes her eyes as she starts to sob. âI couldn't go through with it. I'm not ready.â She says through her tears. You nod your head because you don't know what to do or how to properly react. âIt wasn't an easy decision, you know? I thought about it for a couple of weeks and I thought about telling you but I was so scared that you would be happy and I would have the baby to please you and I just ââÂ
âDaisy,â you call her name until she stops rambling and you enter her personal space, pulling her against your chest to let her know that you are there for her. âDaisy, I get it. It's okay. Iâm not ready for another kid. Shh, shh, it's okay. It's your body, I would have never askedââÂ
âI know you wouldn't have but I would have done it! For you!â She interrupts. âBecause I know how much you love kids and you're a great parent. You're so great with Rachel and I know how much she wants siblings and I just couldn't. I couldn't be the one to give you that. But if I told you, I would have gone through with it and I would have been miserable,â she continues to ramble. You pull back and get her to look you in the eye.Â
âDaisy, you're not listening,â you say calmly. âBreathe with me. Okay?â She nods with you and you count to four with your fingers as you inhale through your nose. Then you put down the four fingers as you hold. You lift them back up as you exhale. And you repeat the process with Daisy until she appears a little more relaxed. âDaisy, recently I've been asked by my ex-wife to have more kids with her and I told her no. I â this is going to sound horrible but â I wasn't ready to be Rachel's parent. I love her, she is my world. But it took me longer than anyone realizes to be comfortable being her parent. I wasn't ready and I know that a lot of parents will tell you that none of them were ready and that's,â you wave your hand to the side. âIt's quite clear that they weren't and I don't think it should be that way.â You shake your head. âDaisy, I'm telling you right now that I'm not ready for another child. When you told me about the pregnancy right now I nearly threw up. You made the right decision. I'm not mad at you. I don't hate you for making this decision on your own. It's your choice, I'm just sorry that I didn't make you feel like you could come to me about this. I'm sorry that I wasn't there for you.â Daisy closes her eyes and leans against your chest.Â
Neither of you talk for a moment. Allowing yourselves to process and accept the truths that each has shared. You think about how that night mightâve gone differently. You wouldnât have lived with Wanda for almost two weeks. You wouldnât have gotten as close to Wanda as you have. You would have been having back-and-forth conversations with Daisy. You would have developed a stronger relationship. Maybe. It could have turned sour. She could have grown distant and resented you or herself for the decision. Who knows? That wasnât what happened. So it doesnât matter now. But you canât help but think where you could have been now had things happened differently.Â
âDid you deal with this alone?â You eventually ask her. Daisy shakes her head against your chest. Youâre surprised she is still resting against you because normally she couldnât stand the smell of your sweat and the other odors that come from manual labor when the two of you were together. âJemma?â She nods against you. âCan I ask, uh, what⊠or why did you bring this to me now?â You ask carefully.Â
You feel Daisy take a deep breath and this is what pulls her away from you. She wipes her face and sits against the back of the couch. She plays with the rings on her fingers and flexes her jaw. âI didnât get the abortion until a couple of weeks ago,â she admits. âI almost went through with the pregnancy because,â she takes another shaky breath. âJean was at the same clinic I was at to make the appointment. I spilled my guts to her because Jemma had to leave halfway through since it wasn't the appointment and Jean was there when I had second thoughts. It took me a couple of weeks to even go in because I was in denial for a bit. I didnât want to believe it was true. Then I saw the sonogram and I,â she shakes her head and looks up to the ceiling. âI had second thoughts.â She shrugs her shoulders and you take one of her hands to offer your support. Itâs not an easy decision for most. That's assuming that it's ever an easy decision for anyone. âJean offered to pay for my doctor bills and prenatal care if I decided to follow through with the pregnancy and gave her and Anna the baby and never told you about any of this.â You drop Daisyâs hand and turn away from her.Â
You stand up with that nauseous feeling again, not sure what to do about a betrayal of this caliber. You know that Jean has a tendency to do anything and everything to get what she wants when she wants it but⊠This was too far. âI canât fucking,â you shake your head. You want to punch a wall or break something but you canât. You canât afford the injury. You canât afford the plaster to fix the wall. You canât afford to replace the things you have. You canât afford any of this because you thought you were paying off debts before interest can build on them. You thought you were doing everything right. You thought you could trust Jean. You canât believe she would go so far as to put Daisy through something like this.Â
âPlease donât hate me,â Daisy begs, âI was confused and I wasnât sure what I wanted. I only said yes at first because I thought you would be allowed to be in their life and I thought you would like that andââÂ
âIâm not upset with you,â you cut her off. âItâs not your fault,â you try to focus on your breathing but you canât calm down. You canât focus on anything. You donât know how someone can be so deranged. You look at Daisy and you feel so guilty for what happened to her. The position she was put in. It makes sense why one day Jean is ready to cut your head off for saying no and then next sheâs perfectly fine. What kind of person could be so deceptive? What kind of person⊠you huff through your nose. âIâm sorry that you had to go through that,â you say to Daisy in the softest tone you could muster up. âYou shouldnât have⊠She shouldnâtâveâŠâ you shake your head and close your eyes.Â
Daisy stands up and takes your white-knuckled fist and massages the tight skin until you release your grip. âI am going to be okay. I probably shouldnât have told you. I just, I donât know. At first the offer was that I just give them the baby. I wrongfully assumed that also meant giving you the baby. Then she eventually told me that you would not know that the baby was even yours,â she shakes her head. âI couldnât put myself in the middle of this. I couldnât put anyone in the middle of that. I didn't want to be part of why Rachelâs parents grew to hate each other. You guys are such healthy examples for her.â You begin to grow upset again thinking about how Jean deceived Daisy. How she was ready to deceive you. It was one thing to ask you to knowingly not be allowed in your child's life. But to go behind your back and essentially kidnap what almost was your child⊠you couldnât believe it.Â
âWhen I had the chance to think about it, I didnât want to give birth. I couldnât go through with it so without telling her, I went through with the abortion because thatâs what I wanted.â Daisy closes her eyes as tears slip out and she continues to rub your hand. Something she learned that can keep you grounded. âThe only thing that has been tearing me apart about this whole thing is how much of it was being kept from you. I havenât been able to sleep because of it. You deserve to know.âÂ
âThank you for telling me,â you state as you watch her rub your hands. You clench your jaw as your eyebrows knit together. Normally an action like this would calm you down but the information was far too upsetting. âI need to go for a walk or something. I donât know. I just canât be here right now.â You pull your hand away.Â
âI donât think you should be alone,â Daisy tries to pull you back to her.Â
âTrust me, right now, thatâs whatâs best for everyone,â you say as you hold your hand up to stop her from coming any closer to you. Daisy stares at you, wanting to be in your arms again. Wanting to feel that comfort that you brought her. Both in the past and just before she dropped the bomb on you. But you weren't someone that sought after touch when you were going through something. You retreated. You isolated yourself. At least, that's what you did when you were with her. She might never know that there are other sides to you. Especially not after tonight.Â
âOkay,â she says just above a whisper. âOkay,â she repeats as she walks to the exit. âI'm sorry for everything, again,â she says as she steps into the hallway. âPlease, don't do anything stupid.â She disappears, leaving the door open.Â
You stare at the door as you think of what you want to do. You think about getting into your car but you're afraid that if you do, you'll drive into a tree or worse. You'll drive to Jeanâs house. You couldn't do that to Rachel. You check that you have your keys, phone, and wallet in your pockets and then you lock up your apartment on your way out. Stepping out onto the concrete sidewalk outside of your apartment building you look every which way. There are bars and restaurants down each way. You could easily find somewhere to drink but that's not what you want to do. So you start walking.Â
You walk aimlessly for a long time. You walk until your legs begin to ache and your feet begin to hurt. You find yourself at a dock, there are many boats parked but you find a space without one. You sit at the ledge and look out to the water and breathe. The smell of the salty water is calming. You watch as the water moves causing the reflection of the lights to dance. You allow yourself to grieve because even though you didn't want another child, you contributed to almost bringing another life into the world. It was a weird feeling. You're not upset with Daisy for making her choice, you are grateful to her. But you still feel the loss. You didn't understand the feeling but you let yourself feel it. Because even though you don't understand why you feel the way that you do, you don't have to justify or explain it to anyone. You can just allow yourself to feel whatever you want to.Â
Then you grieve the relationship you thought you had with Jean. You can't believe she would pull something like this. You don't understand where an idea like that would come from out of her. You don't know how you'll be able to move past this. You feel like she took everything the two of you built together over the years and tore it apart bit by bit. You feel disgusting. You feel used. You take deep breaths as you feel it all. Hoping to release it in a healthy way. It was done, there wasn't much else that you could do about it now except to confront her. You couldn't do that until Sunday.
When you stand up to leave, you slip and fall into the water. You don't try to swim at first. You let the water move you. Trusting that it won't take you away. That it won't pull you under and shorten your time on this planet. You just float in the water. Eventually, the need for air is too great and you swim up until you break the surface with a big gasp.Â
You pull yourself up onto the dock and start walking home. You are grateful for the bulky phone case when you pull it out of your pocket to find that the phone is perfectly fine. You use the map application in order to navigate your way home. When you arrive at your destination you shower and eat a microwavable meal. You fall into your bed after taking a sleep aid and fall asleep.Â
The next day, at work, Wanda stops by the job site around lunch time. You walk into Pietroâs office and find the two of them laughing with takeaway meals in front of them. You still feel horrible from the night before. But hearing her laugh heals the wounds inside your heart.Â
âY/n!â Wanda grins. âI brought you something too,â she holds up a container. You look at the container and try not to show that you have anything wrong with you by forcing on a smile.Â
âYou didn't have to,â you say as you move to the sink to wash your hands before you join them. âI appreciate this. Is there an occasion I'm not aware of?â You ask as you open the container. The aroma of your favorite food should have made you happier, instead you began to feel nauseous again. It has nothing to do with the food or Wanda's presence and everything to do with the feelings that you're suppressing.Â
âNo, I had lunch with Tony yesterday and it reminded me how much I enjoy having lunch with other people,â she shrugs. âIsolation can become a bit of a downside when it comes to working from home for me sometimes.âÂ
You nod, âMakes sense. Why don't you do the hybrid method? That's what Daisy did with school. She would do online classes and in-person classes,â you suggest before you take a bite. You chew slowly because you do need to eat. No matter how sick you're feeling.Â
âThat's a good idea,â Pietro agrees. âYou could finally get better acquainted with the rest of the staff.âÂ
Wanda makes a distasteful face, âI don't know. Getting to know people always leads to getting stuck in the middle of their drama.â She shakes her head. âI think I have enough of my own.âÂ
Pietro shrugs, âYou never know. Sometimes it's good to hear about other people's drama. It makes your life sound better. Why do you think I still talk to you? Just because you're my sister?â Wandaâs eyes widen and she punches her brother on his shoulder. âHey! It's not my fault, you have the most dramatic life out of anyone I know! Y/n,â he nudges you, âback me up here!âÂ
You are snapped out of your head and try to catch up with the conversation. You look between them cluelessly. âI'm sorry, I probably have her beat when it comes to a dramatic life.âÂ
Pietro shakes his head, âWhat are you talking about? Other than that baby thing, you are relatively drama free. That drama even ended pretty well from what I remember.âÂ
You feel a little light headed as you are reminded by the development of that issue. That there is a new ending to the situation. But you don't tell him. You don't want to tell him. You're not even sure you want to tell Wanda. Not right now at least. You nod, âYeah, I guess you're right.â You turn to Wanda with a playful shrug. âSorry, I tried.â Wanda shakes her head and the three of you share a laugh.Â
âWhatever,â Wanda mutters as she stabs her salad with her fork.Â
When lunch is over, you walk Wanda out to her car. You're quiet as she talks to you about her current project and updating you on her boys. Then she asks you if you are okay because you seem a little off. You shrug and stop when you reach the car. âUm the other day, Jean and Anna asked me to move my workshop out of their shed,â you scratch behind your ear. Feeling queasy saying her name.Â
âYour workshop?â Wanda asks as she unlocks her car.Â
âYeah, just my tools and some leftover materials that I used on my last order,â you explain as you open the car door for her.Â
âLast order? What do you mean?â Wanda reaches over and sets her purse on the passenger seat but she doesn't sit in her car just yet.Â
âI have a little side business. Haven't I told you about it before?â You are surprised with yourself that you haven't mentioned this to her before. You try to think of a time that you might've brought it up before but you come up with nothing. There just hasn't been a reason to. Wanda shakes her head as she does the same. âAh well, I have a small business. I take custom orders. Anything that someone wants built, I build it.â You pull out your phone and show her your website. âJust something to help with the bills whenever I can't get a lot of hours.â She takes your phone and nods, impressed by the stuff you have built in the past. âAnyway, the reason it's on my mind, they want me to move my stuff out of the shed. I can't really afford a place to be able to store everything and be able to have the space to work on orders.âÂ
âI have a shed that, admittedly, could use some care,â she says as she hands you back your phone. âYou could set up shop in there, at no cost, of course.âÂ
âWanda, I can't take you up on that offer,â you resist.Â
âYes, you can,â she insists. âWhy couldn't you?âÂ
You look away and lick your lips as you are reminded of the night she rejected you. âI would need a lot of access to it when or really if I get another order. I don't know if it's a good idea for us to spend that much time together.â
Wanda nods as she understands where you're coming from. âTechnically we wouldn't be spending any of that time together. You'd be working and I would be inside my house or doing something. Come on, we're friends. Let me help you with this.âÂ
You focus your eyes back to hers and you think about just how much she has been helping you. It doesn't feel like there is a balance in the friendship with how often she helps you compared to how often you help her. âI don't know Wanda,â you say as you bite your bottom lip in thought. You can't think of a good reason to say no so you don't. You shrug and nod at her. âOkay, yeah, I will take you up on that offer. Thank you, Wanda. I really appreciate it. Is it okay if I bring it all by on Sunday?âÂ
Wanda smiles and nods, âOf course, come by then. I'm sure the boys will be happy to see you and Rachel again. They were pretty upset about not having you guys there last week.âÂ
âYeah, Rachel wasn't happy about it either. She prefers cooking with you a lot more than she does with me,â you say with a soft laugh. Wanda smiles at her shoes as she thinks about how much she prefers cooking with you over anyone else. She looks back up and locks eyes with you. She feels like an idiot for pushing you away but she doesn't feel ready to tell you how she feels about you.Â
âI'll see you on Sunday,â she says and you nod as you repeat her departing words as you step away from her. You wave as she drives off and you go back to work without thinking about your problems with Jean and instead thinking about Wanda and how pretty she looked today.Â
Saturday night you can't sleep. You toss and turn even after taking a sleep aid. Your heart pounds as your mind races about seeing Jean the next day. You can't stop running through scenarios of confronting her. Are you going to do it right away? Are you going to choke? Is the sight of her going to make you nauseous? Or worse. Is it going to cause you to actually vomit? Will you be able to see her without getting angry? You're going to have to be there longer than you want to because you have to load your truck with your stuff but are you going to make it through? You don't know. And you're exhausted by the anticipation.Â
You are lucky to get in a nap before you have to pick up Rachel. You have to drink two cups of coffee before you feel awake enough to drive. On the drive over, you are yet again practicing what you're going to say when you arrive. You yawn as you park and shake your head to get you ready to knock on the door. You stare at the house as you try to remember that she is your friend. She was your favorite person once upon a time. You loved her. But it's all tainted now. She has slowly burned you out and ripped you to shreds.Â
You step out of your truck and knock on the door. You look at the welcome mat to keep yourself calm as you wait. When there's no response, you ring the doorbell. You take slow breaths as you try to clear your mind. You can't think about what Daisy told you in front of Rachel.Â
Anna is the one to open the door. Since Daisy hadn't mentioned her, you can tell yourself that she isn't someone that you should be upset with and you can tell yourself that she has no idea. At least until you can figure out when to confront them about this. You walk through the house to get to your stuff in the backyard but when you bring the tools to your truck you go through the gate that leads to the front instead of going through the house. You don't say anything to Anna, you don't even ask why she's the only person you've seen so far. You just focus on your task. Move your tools from the shed to your truck. When you're done, Rachel greets you with a tight hug that you are happy to reciprocate. It's a relief to see her and to hold her.Â
Jean is on the phone in the kitchen and you don't feel the desire to interrupt her conversation just to confront her. You decide to leave it alone. You take Rachel to the car and help her get inside. âDid you hear the good news?â Rachel asks as you get settled in the driver's seat. You shake your head and ask her what the good news is. âI'm having a baby brother! My mommies said so. I'm going to be a big sister!â Your heart stops as your entire body freezes. How could they tell her something like that? How do they even know what the gender would have been?Â
âWait right here, I need to ask your mommies something,â you tell your daughter with a tight voice. You climb out of the truck and walk to the front door. This time, you enter without knocking and walk up to Jean as she ends her phone call. âHow dare you,â you start bitterly. Jean is thrown off and her confused smile drops. âHow dare you put Daisy in that kind of position. How dare you tell our daughter that she's going to be a big sister before there is a baby. There isn't going to be a baby! There never should have been. You shouldn't have tried to talk Daisy out of her decision. You are a cisgendered female, you should have some respect when it comes to another woman making a decision about her life and her body. Not only that, you are my best friend. Or at least you used to be. I thought you would have enough respect for me to tell me the moment you found out about Daisy's pregnancy. I was mistaken to believe the lies you told me but I will not allow that behavior to affect our daughter. So you better be a thousand percent certain when it comes to something as big as a sibling coming into her life before you tell her anything!â You take a split second to decide whether or not to continue and with how upset you are, you can't stop yourself. âAnd I was going to let Daisy tell you this herself but I will do what you should have done. She went through with her decision. There won't be a baby. Now I suggest that you either start looking into fostering or adopting â no. You should get your fucking head checked be clearly you are out of your fucking mind, Jean!â Jean slaps you clear across your face. The slap was loud and the impact was hard. It stings and you lift your hand up to your face in shock.Â
âGet out!â Anna shouts from behind you. You are shaking with anger. You weren't aware that you had gotten so furious with the situation. You try to say more but Anna won't let you. Jean is in tears and looking down at her hand, shocked by her own actions. Anna steps in between you and her wife. âGet the fuck out of my house Y/n! Get out! Get out!â She starts pushing you backwards. You hold your hands up and shake your head.Â
âYou're both unbelievable. I'm going,â you walk out after Anna's last shove. You can't believe the reactions. You can't believe the lack of accountability. You storm across the yard and climb into the truck.Â
âWhat's wrong?â Rachel asks in a scared little voice. You feel terrible seeing her shaken up. You sigh and close your eyes before you look at her.Â
âNothing sweetheart,â you say as softly as you can. âNothing, let's just⊠we're going to go home and I'm going to go for a run and then maybe we'll stop by Wandaâs house to drop all of this stuff off later. How does that sound?â You try to make her feel more at ease.Â
âWhy can't we go to Ms. Wandaâs first? I really want to see Tommy and Billy and tell them about the good news!â She asks innocently and you have to close your eyes to calm down. You open them and start the engine. You need to distance yourself from this house. From Jean and Anna. You're starting to wonder if your exâs behavior is being instigated by her wife. You aren't sure how you can find out. But it's definitely something to look into with the lengths she's gone through to make this idea of theirs happen.Â
âHoney, mommies were mistaken. You're not going to be a big sister,â you correct her.Â
Rachel frowns, âYes I am. They said so. My mommies don't lie to me, Baba.âÂ
âI know that sweetheart, that's why I said that they were mistaken. That's not the same as lying, it's more like they didn't know what they were telling you wasn't true,â you take a second to glance at her. âDoes that make sense to you?â Rachel nods with tears building in her eyes. âAwe baby girl, what's wrong?âÂ
âI really wanted to be a big sister,â she says as she wipes her tears. You feel bad as you continue to drive.Â
âI know sweetie, I know,â you sigh as you start to reconsider their proposal. But you quickly shove that thought out of your mind. You cannot allow your daughters disappointment to change your mind on a matter of this magnitude. âDo you still want to go to Wandaâs first?â
âYes please,â she says as she continues to wipe her face. âI want to see my friends.â You want to calm down before you see Wanda. You don't want to pull her into more of your problems. But you feel bad enough for taking away your daughters smile. So you suck it up and drive to Wandaâs house. You text her that you're on the way when you stop at a red light.Â
When you pull up the driveway, Wanda is waiting outside with a smile. She knocks on the window and talks as you roll it down. âI don't care what you say, I'm helping you move the stuff into the shed.â Her wide smiles drops to an expression of concern when she sees the red mark on your cheek. She looks further into the truck and sees Rachel's face is red from crying. âWhat happened?â She looks you over and you shake your head.Â
âNothing, why do you ask?â You say, oblivious to the evidence on your face while you try to hide your frustration from the day.Â
Wanda leans in as close as she can get. âHave you looked in the mirror?â She says in a low whisper.Â
Your eyebrows knit together and you frown before you drop the visor mirror to check yourself out. Then you see the mark and you shut it. You want to curse yourself for not going home first. âI can't talk about it right now. Can we start moving this stuff?â Wanda nods and allows you to get out of the vehicle. You walk to the other side to help Rachel down before you start to take stuff down from your truck. You hand some boxes to Wanda and she leads the way to her shed. She talks the entire way about how she spent her entire Saturday reorganizing the entire space. You hardly listen as your mind replays the last hour. How Jean slapped you and Anna pushed you. How angry you felt â no, feel.Â
Once the pair of you set the boxes down Wanda asks again what happened and the words come out of you before you can stop them. You tell her everything from running into Jemma to what happened with Jean just moments ago. Wanda is quiet as she stands there and processes. She doesn't look at you as she does. You shift your weight uncomfortably as you wait for a response. When she finally moves you don't expect her to hug you the way that she does. She holds you tightly in a warm embrace that breaks your walls down.Â
âI'm so sorry,â she whispers against your chest as you break down in tears and she rubs your back. You let her hold you and comfort you in ways that you hardly ever allowed anyone to take care of you. You allow her to witness a side of vulnerability that you rarely let many see.Â
After a bit of time the both of you stop crying. You and Wanda sneak into the house and each go to a bathroom in order to wash your faces and then get back to work. Together the truck gets emptied of the tools and materials in an impressive amount of time and was put away in the shed. When the both of you finish, Wanda gets a phone call and excuses herself to answer. You follow her inside to wash your hands.Â
You get a message from Nebula and you feel slightly guilty when you do. You open the message and you clench your jaw as she admits how much she likes you and asks when she can see you next. The two of you went out on a date shortly after Wanda rejected you. It was an okay date but with everything going on, it doesn't feel right. You close your phone and head upstairs to check on the kids. As you do so you pass Wanda's office. Her door is slightly ajar. You don't mean to listen in but when you hear the words, âThank you for introducing me⊠yeah he has made me feel things I haven't felt before,â and, âI feel like he understands me better than I understand me.â You feel your heart sink. You continue to walk to check on the kids as you try to tell yourself that you didn't hear the entire conversation so you couldn't possibly know what she was talking about. But a small voice in the back of your head is telling you that she rejected you because she found someone else. A reality that you'll have to accept if you and Wanda are going to continue to be friends.Â
After you check on the kids you schedule another date with Nebula for the next Sunday after you drop Rachel off. Then you continue on with your night with Wanda and the kids. Doing your best to keep your mind off of everything else.
hello no one asked but i brainrotted a bit over a charashamangela church choir/youth group au bc of That games video. thoughts under cut.
tw: minor religious trauma lol
Chanse and Angela growing up in the church. Each of their parents pushing them to be more active in the church through children's choir. Chanse probably starts earlier, maybe like a month before Angela. Chanse is the type of kid who their choir director had to be told to stop riffing because the purpose of a choir is to sound the same, Chanse. But Angela takes to him immediately and they become best friends.
They are eventually invited to join the church's youth ministry and they get so into it, probably dancing to One Way Jesus very enthusiastically. It's a staple for them to play Joseph and Mary during Christmas plays and are like super chill when facilitating prayer sessions. (They understand that people aren't necessarily there for Jesus or w/e but believe that the spirit of the ministry is to find Christ in one another or some shit).
They stay for a couple of years and manage to drag in Arasha, who goes to the same school as them. She's not Christian and is just there because she was sick of inviting them to do shit on Saturday nights only for them to say no and also for the vibes and free food.
Amanda comes in a little later and is forced by her mom to actually join because she was frequently getting into trouble so she'd rather just know that her daughter is praising the lord (or whatever the fuck goes down in youth ministry) on Saturday nights instead of swimming in people's pools or some shit idk. Becomes besties with Chanse, Arasha, Angela.
Making this about Amangela bc I can't help the way I am: Angela welcoming Amanda to the ministry because it's her job as one of its leaders and Amanda is obsessed with her immediately. Probably constantly inviting her to sit right next to her for Sunday service, surreptitiously holding hands during the Lord's Prayer, going out for ice cream together once Amanda gets her driver's license. Something something horny something something repressed, they end up regularly making out (and more?) in Amanda's car without really talking about the implications but they know they feel SOMETHING. Lots of Catholic guilt - but not being able to stop because it feels nice, because it feels right.
And because I like angst - Something something tension because Amanda starts being deprogrammed from Church rhetoric at some point. She still sees Angela doing the thing to appease all the old church ladies and pastors who give her a sense of self because it's really all she knows and are willing to offer her a scholarship for college so there is Even More Pressure.
But Amanda sees all this and sees just how much she's hiding who she is, feeling like she can't really call her out on it because they are Not. Together. Amanda also sees how this is hurting Angela, but Angela is just so young and so confused and just wants to do right by her family, by God, etc... Amanda starts feeling pain and resentment about it.
In my mind, the older active church members think Angela and Chanse are gonna end up together, get married and all that shit. Chanse and Angela never saw each other that way.
Chanse quits out of nowhere and people speak of him like they're speaking the devil's name, basically erasing all history of his contributions (because he's gay.) Amanda soon quits after, and basically stops speaking to Angela. Amanda and Chanse run into each other months later, make comments about not seeing each other in church anymore, and then they reconnect and become besties.
Arasha doesn't quit, she just stops attending because she becomes busy with college. It's just not the same because Chanse and Amanda aren't there. She doesn't really have an obligation to do so, but she still keeps in touch with Angela.
Arasha and Angela become roommates in college. And because this is the first time Angela experiences independence, she goes on a SIN rampage - secular (lmao) theater, drinking, drugs, sex (lmao). All the things the church loves to police. And she has an identity crisis about it, crying to Arasha about it even.
Arasha, not knowing where the fuck all this Christian guilt is coming from calls Amanda and Chanse for backup and it's the first time they all see each other in a while. They all commiserate in the dorm room and bond and it's beautiful.
Angela wakes up. Amanda, Chanse and Arasha remind her that she's worthy of love no matter what. Once Angela finally internalizes that, she unpacks all the ways she hurt herself and how she's hurt others. Angela and Amanda finally talk about the shit that went down between them. They apologize for hurting each other, and decide to try again with a better understanding of themselves.
And they all live happily ever after. The end.
#alexa play casual by chappell roan and maybe also good luck babe#can you tell this is inspired by grace chasity#not gonna write this as a full fic because i have other things on my plate but this did enter my brain so now i'll share it ig#smosh rpf#smoshblr#amangela#angela#amanda#chanse#arasha#if ur complaining about mixing many christian denominations - yes i know. idc too much about making it accurate.#i said that#fic*
Book of Bill spoilers under cut
I know this isn't nearly what everyone's talking about when it comes to this book but the added context and filling in the blanks about Stanford's story absolutely breaks my heart.
For his whole childhood and young years he was ostracized for his birth defect and interest in the abnormal, only getting recognition for his gifted genius and when he finally had the chance to put his smarts to good use surrounded by people who would get him the only person who was ever there for him ruined his chances (albeit accidentally) and sent a wrecking ball to his entire future.
Although he excelled with the cards he was dealt and found a study he was passionate about he was all alone, despite being the smartest person in Gravity Falls (and possibly all of Oregon) he was still very socially stunted and struggled even talking to a waitress at a diner, alone with his studies until he met Bill who while becoming his muse and aiding him tremendously with his research also seemed to truly connect to him in a way no human ever could and they appeared to grow a strong bond maybe even blossoming into a little situationship. Through this he reconnected with his old colleague roommate who was not only willing to help with a groundbreaking technological breakthrough for pretty much nothing but is also the first to show Stanford true human kindness (even at his own decrement) that he most likely hasn't felt since the fallout with Stanley which he reciprocate.
He was thriving in his element, he didn't have many friends but when push came to shove he only needed the two. The future was looking bright and he was happy.
Then in one fell swoop it all came crashing down.
The secrets of his research and progress came out in the end and in the span of what I assume is a week he not only lost his one human friend but his muse, his friend, his sidepiece, the only being ever who truly recognized and understood him became his worst monster and tormentor and what's worse is that the only person that could possibly help him has been drawn away. He's left completely and more alone than he ever was.
Growing maddened, desperate and with no one else to turn to he reaches out the con man who ruined his future 30 years ago despite fears disaster and mockery hoping he can help.
And we all know how that ended...
When I first watched Gravity Falls when I was younger I never gave too much thought about Ford but reading through his pages in The Book Of Bill and piecing everything together made me cry.
But the only thing that made me cry harder was seeing the picture of him in the present day, surrounded by the people who love and care about him.
"I found my happiness and it looks like this." :')
#don't mind me just crying over the tragic relationship drama of cartoon scientist at the tender hour of 4:A.M#Alex how are you gonna crush my heart with the ripped photo and then have bill spiraling about the divorce just waiting on the next page#book of bill got me feeling things i wasn't expecting#gravity falls#stanford pines#book of bill#book of bill spoilers#blatherings of a blathermouth
Chat am I cooked? I just poured my heart out to a girl đ
âFart you need you stop. You have a boyfriend whoâs the same guy you promised me youâd never even consider in that way. You need to stop sending me snaps of yourself on your friends phone. You need to stop liking my instagram post. You need to stop. EVERYTIME I look at my quick add your name is on the list, and it hurts knowing I can click a single button and try to reconnect to you. I donât get why you would ask your friends for their phones to talk to me even though that was only a week and a half after you unadded me and you had already replaced me with the same boy you told me youâd never think of in that way. In my mind and in my heart I still havenât let go of you and everyday I hope to come back to you but I know that cannot happen unless you feel the same way which at this point Im certain you donât and the other thing preventing is your parents. So if both of those things arenât possible you need to stop interacting with me completely even if we arenât messaging your still liking my instagram posts and sending me snaps on your friends phones and EVERYTIME you do that it hurts me because Iâm reminded of what I want most but I cannot have, and I canât have not because something I did wrong or something Iâm doing to make it to where I canât have but itâs because itâs completely out of my control and I hate when things are out of my control because it makes me feel powerless and I canât do anything to change it. Iâve tried telling you to stop in the past by sending your friends messages to send to you and all youâve said in response EVERYTIME is âIâm sorryâ yet you continue to do it. At this point it just feels like youâre doing it to make sure you know I wonât stop wanting you back. And at this point I donât need a reply I need an answer I need an actual answer. Saying youâre sorry proves nothing if you donât change how you act by quitting the actions and decisions you keep making. And whenever you do send me a snap or when you liked my instagram post it just gives me false hope. Every single time I open a snap from your friend and see you it makes we want to cry from how much I miss you and it fucking hurts, it seriously does at this point and itâs destroying me mentally everyday. Iâve been delaying sending you this message for a couple weeks now because Iâve convinced myself that, because you didnât block me or that because you do still follow me on instagram I do still have a chance of having you back. But if that isnât true, you need to leave me alone and I need you to move on with my life even though in my mind right now Iâd rather be stuck on missing you everyday than move and try to find anybody else because even though we havenât talked in over a month I still canât even talk to anybody else without missing you and thinking about you. Part of the reason is because when I said Iâd wait for you as long as you waited for me I was completely serious and I was willing to wait forever for you but unfortunately you didnât seem to feel the same way. Since you had already replaced me so quickly. Iâm sorry if this message seem repetitive Iâm just not good with explaining things so I explained the same things a couple of times to maybe help you understand how I feel. Iâm sorry if this message caused any trouble but I do truly miss you still and I donât think I ever wonât miss you. Because I did make a promise to you and I hate people who donât keep their promises and I hate liars so itâs basically impossible for me to forget about the promise I made. Please read this messsge and try to fully understand it.â
Get Orbed, Losers
Little fic for Dead Boy Ween Day 4, prompt: orbs
Summary: Niko, Charles and Edwin are trapped inside a haunted house with an angry poltergeist when Charles and Edwin are poofed. Niko then has to save the day with only two chatty orbs for company.
London was very different from Port Townsend, not that Niko thought that was a bad thing. She had grown up in Tokyo, so it wasnât like she wasnât used to big cities. But, it was certainly a big change from the small relatively quiet town of Port Townsend.
Niko had expected that it would be hard to convince her mother to let her transfer to a school in London. But, she maybe underestimated how much her mother was willing to do to finally get a response back to her letters. If Niko thought about that for too long, it made her feel sad and guilty. So, she did her best to not think about it.
Reconnecting with her mother was hard. They were very different people and Niko didnât feel like her mother understood her even a little bit, though it did seem like she was trying very hard to do so. Niko hadnât even gotten close to broaching the subject of her new friends, living and dead, and her new interest in being a detective. Not only would her mother not understand, she probably wouldnât believe her.
Admittedly, Niko thought most people wouldnât believe that she spent most of her free time these days helping two dead boys solve mysteries for other dead people. But, she liked the new turn that her life had taken. Even if it ended up with her locked in a very haunted house by herself with only two floating orbs for companionship.
âOh no!â Niko exclaimed. âHow did this happen?â she asked, reaching out a hesitant finger toward the glowing bluish ball of light that she assumed was Edwin. He bumped into her finger and she was briefly assailed by the smell of old paper and a faint feeling of warmth, like warm buttery sunlight on a bright summer day.
âShe dropped a piano on us,â Charles said in a wry tone, his own warm red orb sailing in circles around herself and Edwin.
Niko glanced over at the huge upright piano that was currently half embedded into the floor of the parlor.
âWow,â Niko breathed, tilting her head a little to better see how deeply the piano had sunk into the next level of the house. âShe must be a really strong ghost. I wonder what her work out routine is likeâŠâ
âI donât believe her calisthenic habits have an effect on her ability to throw heavy objects,â Edwin said testily.
Charlesâ little blush colored ball curled tighter on his next orbit around Niko and bumped affectionately into Edwin, knocking him a few inches to the left. There was a little burst of light when they hit that left sparkling afterimages on the back of Nikoâs eyes.
âOi, how do you know?â Charles asked with a laugh. âI donât see you doing any squats. Maybe this calls for an experiment. We can work out every day and then see who can lift a piano easier.â
Even without a face Niko could tell that Edwin was rolling his eyes. âReally, Charles,â he said.
Charles laughed, his ball doing a little spin and then looping in a circle before he went back to orbiting Nikoâs head. Edwin instead floated closer to Niko, getting close enough to her shoulder that she could feel a bit of the cold radiating off of him through her jacket.
âI suppose Iâll keep an eye out for falling furniture,â Niko said faintly as she turned back the way she came and started back toward the kitchen.
âOh, shite. I keep forgetting youâre mortal,â Charles said. âWe really need to get you of here. If this ghost can move pianos, then sheâs too dangerous for you to be around.â
âSo long as our poltergeist friend is holding all the doors and windows shut, I donât think Niko will be able to make her exit,â Edwin muttered near her ear. He sounded like he was just right there, so it was strange to think he was just a little orb hiding behind her hair.
Niko put her fingers up to where Edwinâs voice had come from and he bumped against her fingers again in a friendly sort of way. This time she smelled kerosene and tasted some kind of very sweet candy. It was very pleasant.
âDonât worry about me, guys,â she said. âYou just focus on helping this poor ghost out. I know how to take care of myself.â
Charles scoffed, doing another little loop at the edge of Nikoâs vision. âYeah, well. Iâd have said the same thing about us a few minutes ago and look where that got us.â
âDiscorporation is just a small set back,â Edwin said stiffly. âOnce we gather enough energy from the nearby surroundings we will be back to our normal selves. We can investigate just fine as is.â
It was handy having the boys as orbs for the time being. The servant corridors leading off the kitchen were narrow and had no wiring for electric lights, but their orbs cast enough light for Niko to see where she was going.
âWhat does it feel like to be an orb?â Niko asked curiously. Turning right, she found herself at the bottom of some very narrow, very steep stairs. They looked sort of dangerous. She imagined that it was probably really hard to navigate them when your hands were full of towels or a tea tray or whatever servants for fancy english nobles had to carry around these tight passageways.
âItâs sort of like if you had to sit in a little dark cramped room and like you have a controller with just a joystick to control your body and you can only see out of a little tiny window the size of your hand,â Charles explained, doing a few more flips in front of Nikoâs face. It was distracting, but if that was what it felt like to be an orb, maybe Charles was feeling under stimulated. Doing flips might be the only way he could try and make his sensory input a little more interesting, poor thing.
âA very apt explanation, Charles,â Edwin said, sounding impressed.
Charles must have been happy with the compliment, because he started to spin in tight circles around Edwin, occasionally brushing against him in little flashes of light.
âCharles! Charles, enough! Youâll make yourself dizzy!â Edwin exclaimed, though it sounded to Niko like he was trying very hard not to laugh.
âI donât think Iâve been dizzy a day of my afterlife, mate,â Charles said with a laugh, but did stop spinning around Edwin. âCan you get dizzy without an inner ear?â
They had reached the landing at the top of the stairs. Niko inched the door open slowly to reveal a very tastefully decorated sitting room on the second floor.
Charles dodged past her as she opened the door, his orb partially phasing through her neck as he did so. The flavor of hot spicy curry and thick fluffy rice exploded on her tongue as he did so.
âMmm!â Niko hummed, pressing her fingers to her lips. The taste and the feel of the rice felt so real on her tongue that she almost thought there really was food in her mouth. âOh, curry!â she exclaimed after a second. âI love curry,â she sighed.
âMe too!â Charles exclaimed. âThere used to be this little place on the way home from school. God, they had the best curry. When I was a lad, it was so hot it almost burnt my tongue off, but I just couldnât get enough!â
Niko smacked her lips a few times, savoring the lingering flavors that were quickly fading from her mouth and stepped into the room. âWell, you have excellent taste. I think Iâd die for a whole plate of that,â she said very seriously to orb Charles.
Charles stopped his constant movement for a second.
âWait. Iâm sorry, did you just taste my favorite curry?â Charles asked.
âWhen you two bump into me I smell and taste all kinds of interesting things,â Niko explained.
âWhoah. Thatâs-â
Whatever Charles was about to say, it was cut off by Edwin talking over him. âCharles, Niko! Our ghost is here!â
When Niko turned to look she found that Edwin was right. There was a middle aged woman in a very tight and modest gray dress buttoned up to her chin was standing in the corner of the room glaring at her. The color had completely washed out of her, like she had stepped out of a grainy black and white film, and her eyes dark pits in her angular face.
âNo one ever understands,â she said, her voice wobbling. Her hands were clenched in trembling fists by her side. âNo one ever NOTICES!â she shouted, black tears overflowing and running down her face. âNo one ever APPRECIATES all that I DO!â
âWeâre not your family, lady! Give it a break!â Charles shouted, darting over to hover protectively between Edwin and Niko and the angry ghost crying in the corner.
âCharles, please do shut up!â Edwin shouted back, sounding stressed and more than a little scared.
âIâm sorry that nobody appreciates you,â Niko piped up, clasping her hands in front of her. âThat must be really hard.â
Both of the orbs floated closer to Niko, but she kept her eyes trained on the crying woman. She looked so sad. It didnât excuse her dropping a piano on her friends, but Niko still felt bad for her.
âIt⊠It is hard,â the woman agreed after a long pregnant moment. She dashed her tears away with long delicate fingers and frowned out the window. âIt is very hard when you work your hardest at something and never receive a single compliment or thank you.â
âYouâre so right,â Niko nodded along. âOne time I volunteered to make the collage for a group project in one of my classes. And, I spent all day gluing photos and glitter hearts and string to poster board. And the day of the presentation, none of my classmates even said thank you or said anything about my glitter hearts. That really hurt my feelings.â
The woman started to cry again, pressing her own elegant looking hands to her chest. âThatâs just awful! I am not sure what âglitter heartsâ are, but I would have complimented you for the effort!â
âThank you,â Niko said sincerely. âYou seem like a really kind and thoughtful person.â
The woman started to cry harder. âThank you,â she gasped.
âWhat is happening?â Charles whispered, though it was too loud to go unnoticed in the small room.
âBe quiet!â Edwin hissed.
âI know that it doesnât feel nice when you have to point it out, but can I ask what you feel is going unappreciated?â Niko asked gently.
The woman threw her arms out wildly, tears still streaming down her face. âEverything!â she exclaimed. âI built this house from the ground up! I practically drew up the architectural plans myself, because James was just useless at it. I picked out all the furniture, saw it all delivered and arranged, picked out the rugs, the drapes, the decor! I built this home entirely by myself so that my family could live here and be happy and then I worked myself to death to make it so!â the woman sobbed loudly, the sound wracking her whole body and making her tremble. Faintly, the objects on the shelves began to vibrate. âAll of that and now theyâre just going to tear it down and turn it into-into-â she took another great gasping breath âa strip mall!â she shouted before collapsing into tears.
They all stood awkwardly for a while, avoiding each otherâs eyes while the lady ghost in the corner cried and sobbed.
âThe drapes are really very lovely,â Niko commented, reaching out a finger to carefully trace the line of a faded green stem woven into the heavy fabric.
âThey really are,â Edwin agreed. âThey draw the eye and really warm up the room.â
âThank you,â the woman sobbed. She took a few steps forward and collapsed onto one of the nearby settees. The objects on the shelves stopped shaking. âI worked so hard while I was alive because I loved my family. But, all my work went ignored and now itâs been completely forgotten. It makes one feel rather unloved, doesnât it?â she asked tearfully.
Niko walked over to sit beside her. She took her delicate hands and folded them between her own. The womanâs hands were ice cold, but they were also soft and small, like her own. These hands had worked tirelessly and she loved them just a little bit for that.
âI donât believe for a second that you were unloved,â Niko says firmly. âSometimes people get caught up in their own stuff and have a hard time seeing things. But, that doesnât mean that they didnât love you.â
The spectral hands she held in her own squeezed, sending a cold ache up Nikoâs arms. The womanâs face was folded into bittersweet lines.
âYouâre right,â she sighed. âOf course youâre right. Perhaps Iâm the one who is âcaught upâ as you said.â
âMaybe,â Niko agreed with a tilt of her head. âIt happens to the best of us.â
âQuite,â the woman agreed with a wet sniff.
Then, the room was flooded with a soft blue light.
âEdwin!â Charles shouted, spinning around Edwin in the fastest circles that Niko had seen yet.
âDonât wait for me! Just go!â Edwin shouted back, already speeding off through the wall in what Niko thought was probably the direction of the foyer.
âI have to go,â Niko said, turning back to the womanâs ghost. She was frowning in confusion at the wall that Charles and Edwin had just disappeared through. âBut, a nice woman should be coming to talk to you soon. You should listen to what she has to say,â Niko explained, climbing back to her feet.
The woman nodded, turning toward where the blue light was strongest. She looked younger and happier, the light washing years off of her lined face.
âYes, I will,â she said, not looking at Niko.
Niko gave the womanâs profile a smile. She would be okay. Niko had faith.
She exited through the door in the wall that Charles and Edwin had flown through. It lead to a hallway that took her back to the foyer with the piano in the floor.
âNiko! Thank God,â Edwin exclaimed, flying up to make his own nervous circles around her as Niko emerged at the top of the staircase.
âHi, Edwin!â Niko said, happy to see him doing well. She cupped a hand around his orb and he obligingly settled into it, his touch giving her the scent of beeswax and the taste of honey. âIâm glad you two got away fast enough. I think our ghost friend will be okay now.â
âGlad youâre okay too, Niko,â Charles said warmly, settling his orb near Nikoâs other shoulder. She cupped a gentle hand around him and smelled fresh cut grass and tasted sweet black tea.
The quiet moment was broken by Crystal slamming through the front door, her eyes wild, her hair a cloud of wayward curls flying around her head, and a huge pickaxe held in her hands. The outward facing side of the door had clearly seen the wrong end of said pickaxe, judging by the huge gouges in the ancient wood.
âCrystal!â Niko said happily, letting go of Edwin and Charles so that she could descend the stairs.
âNiko!â Crystal exclaimed, looking distinctly more ruffled than Niko herself. She threw the pickaxe to the side and then threw herself at Niko so hard that she nearly fell over backward. Crystalâs tears quickly soaked through the shoulder of Nikoâs jacket and her thin strong arms were tacky with sweat. âGod, donât scare me like that! Do you have any idea what awful sounds that were coming from in here!?â
âDid it sound something like a piano falling through the floor?â Charles asked curiously.
His voice sounded much stronger than it had for the past two minutes, so Niko partially extracted herself from Crystal so she could look up at him. He and Edwin were both standing at the bottom of the stairs, now in their normal dead boy shapes.
âOh. Yeah, it did,â Crystal said, turning from Niko to frown at the piano that was still partway through the floor a few feet from them.
âAw,â Niko said, turning back toward Edwin and Charles. âNo more orbs, huh? Iâm going to miss Chorb and Orbwin.â
Charlesâ eyes went huge with amusement while Edwin winced like he was in pain.
âChorb!?â Charles shouted.
âNo,â Edwin said faintly.
âAnd, Orbwin!?â Charles shouted.
âNo, absolutely not,â Edwin said louder.
Charles turned to Edwin with a feral grin. âChorb and Orbwin! Mate, thatâs us. Thatâs our orb-sonas.â
Edwin squinted at him. âI donât know what that is and I donât want you to explain it to me this time.â
âGuys, this is cute and all, but can we please get out of here?â Crystal asked, looking frazzled. Niko reached out to hold her hand and felt blisters where the pickaxe handle must have rubbed her hands raw. Niko frowned and pressed Crystalâs hand tighter in her own.
âWhat an absolutely capital idea, Crystal,â Edwin said stiffly, walking across the foyer and toward the front door with long strides that made him look like he was gliding. Edwin had such a pretty way of moving. Niko really envied him that.
âWe can get curry,â Niko suggested, giving Crystalâs hand a pat. âCharles knows a good place.â
âIâd like that,â Crystal sniffled, following Niko and Edwin out of the house.
âOi, itâs been like forty years. The place probably isnât still around,â Charles said doubtfully as he followed them out of the house.
But, Charles was wrong because the little curry place near his old school was still in business. Even though he couldnât eat any of his favorite menu items, Niko was more than happy to order them and assure him that it was just as good now as it was back then. Charles looked a little misty eyed to hear that.
And Crystal fell asleep on her shoulder on the cab ride back into the heart of London. And Charles did eventually explain to Edwin what a -sona was, even if Edwin looked like he wanted to phase through the floor the whole time.
And, overall, it was another excellent investigation completed by the Dead Boy Detectives (plus psychic (plus Niko)) and another great day for Niko Sasaki and her friends.
Elijah King & Egon; The Assistants
@gordonfreemanreal
Image credit: @/gordonfreemanreal
The Assistants, while an unassuming class, are a valuable part of not only their respective teams, but the administration! You could count Pauling herself as the Admin Assistant, but regardless, my girls are here to lend a helping hand (as their emblems suggest)! In battle, they take on a sort of subclass role with anyone who needs an extra set of hands! For example, when helping the Demos, they take on something akin to the Demoknight subclass, a Trapper to help the Snipers, a Batter to assist the Scouts, etc etc. This even goes for any 10th classes (Iâm looking at you, TF3)! When not in battle, however, they usually do a lot of paperwork to help Miss Pauling, or go on any special contracts thatâs asked of them (usually transporting cargo).
Now for a bit about the girls themselves. Elijah King (she/he) was raised in a lab by none other thanâŠ.(drumroll please)....the RED Medic! (We do love a nepo baby.) Soon after the doctor was forced to leave the facility after becoming too close to Eli, she escaped, got a fun little bout of amnesia, and started living her life in New Mexico! She bounced from job to job, getting experience in all kindsa places; mechanic, bartender, and bouncer were just a few jobs she had. But, one day, she was approached by a lovely woman in purple and offered a job. She took it, and the rest is history! Now this bubbly, flirty, fun-loving gal finally has a homeâŠand maybe one day, sheâll realize she found her father as well.
Egon (he/him), in short, is Eliâs clone. He has a fun little secret, though: he remembers Everything. He doesnât have amnesia! It kinda kills him to see Eli on the other team with their father and not even knowing it! The only thing more frustrating than that is the fact that their father is Intentionally keeping it from her! âŠIt doesnât help that he completely rejected Egon when he tried to reconnect. That definitely wonât give Egon issues about Technically being Eli and having to cobble a new identity for himself in a very short period of time. It certainly doesnât make him sad and bitter. Lucky for him, the entirety of the BLU team is sad and bitter in some way, so he fits right in! Now heâs just gotta keep everyone from finding out heâs a cloneâŠNot that eventually getting temporarily kidnapped and re-experimented on helps his odds. Now heâs got even More unnatural eyes, along with other problems. Eh, heâs probably fine.
So, I bet youâre wondering: Why should you vote for these gals? Their backstory seems weird and tragic and probably doesnât fit at all in line with your interpretation of Medic! Well, my friend, come close and Iâll tell you.
BECAUSE ITâS FUN, DAMNIT!! VOTE FOR THE ASSISTANTS TO HAVE FUN AND WHIMSY IN YOUR LIFE!!! GO GO GO!!!!!!!
The Escapist
@waffleincorperation
Image credit: @/waffleincorperation
The Escapist is a lean, mean, not so green Support Class! Heâs a rowdy Italian man all for fighting and getting his teammates out of trouble. Heâs a major trouble maker (willing to break into MannCo asking for a job offer) but that doesnât stop him from roping up teammates and yanking them out of gunfire.
Snap I have to know how does sereshaw get together or do they need a little push from some friends, because I could totally see someone working something just get those two together
Donât worry Sunshine I got you.
Before I get into it. Hereâs a bit more about the twin AU world, focusing especially on the Top Gun elements. First, Ice is still aliveâhis death in the original storyline was a real blow, so Iâve kept him around. Slider is also present, though heâs retired. In this AU, Maverick and Penny arenât romantically involved. Instead, Maverick assumes a fatherly role for everyone, stepping in to support Amelia as she navigates life without her own dad. Thereâs a touch of Icemav in this AU, just a hint, and I absolutely cherish it.
This head canon can also be stand alone.
Jake and Bradley's relationship was tumultuous from the start, shifting from rivals to friends, then lovers, to exes, back to rivals, and eventually to lovers again. They first got together after graduating from the naval academy, initially sparring as rivals until they realized their feelings ran deeper. Bradley made the first move, and their first kiss came while they were still in their dress blues. They enjoyed a few months of dancing together before they were stationed at separate locations. The distance was manageable at first, but after nearly six months without seeing each other, the strain became evident.
Jake knew almost everything about Bradley, and when Bradley was assigned to Top Gun, he became intensely focused on surpassing Maverick. This obsession strained their relationship, leading to its end. Bradley's refusal to explain his relentless drive to outfly the legendary Maverick created a rift, especially since Jake was unaware that Maverick was Bradley's surrogate father. Itâs a topic Bradley keeps closest to his heart.
Despite their rocky past, Jake and Bradley still have lingering feelings for each other. After the events of the film, Coyote, ever the perceptive wingman, straightforwardly told Jake to give their relationship another shot. The Daggers all noticed the way they still gravitated toward each other, especially evident when Bradleyâs remark, "You look... good," fooled no one. Phoenix, though playfully exasperated that Bradley had chosen Jake, also supported the reunion. She recognized that Bradley brings out Jake's true self, the genuine Jake Seresin, rather than the persona of Hangman.
Currently in the twin au, Bradley is in Oklahoma with Jake to visit Tyler. Although they remain cautious and cling to their safe spaces, both still a little nervous to make the move, afraid theyâll ruin their chance again. Being outside the military environment has helped them gain a bit more confidence, especially Bradley.
Now that Bradley has reconnected with him, Maverick, feeling like a weary old man, insists he's not the person to ask for relationship advice. However, he's always willing to listen to Bradley vent over the phone.
âHangman? Really? Out of everyone?â Maverick asked, lounging in one of the mismatched chairs in his hangar.
âMav, I donât think youâre in a position to judge. Donât make me call Sliderâheâll be more than happy to give examples. Or maybe Iâll call Ice.â
âPlease donât.â
Zutara secret scientists âThe Bridges of Madison Countyâ canon compliant AU (Rated R)
Katara married Aang and Zuko married Mai. The time Zuko and Katara get to spend together as friends is limited by all of their duty to their partner and their country.Â
Zuko would look at Mai and sometimes admire her kind of devotion, sometimes feel sorry for her, knowing she loved a man so much she was willing to birth him a child and endure this regal, frivolous and boring life for him.
Aang is off in the temples with young 12yo Tenzin for most of the year. Kyaâs 14yo tomboyish rebelliousness and apathy towards water-bending mastery is pushing Katara to the edge of her sanity with how much she reminds her of a certain snarky Earthbender, and so Hakodaâs agreed to take her to get some grandpa time in the SWT. Bumi is 19 and has been long gone for years, freshly graduated from Republic Cityâs naval academy and now off to basic training with Zukoâs naval fleet of the united Forces, and even though she misses that goofy-but-sensitive little non-bender, the kid who clung to her skirts and sought attention when Aang started flying off with Tenzin on those cultural excursions⊠Katara is glad that Bumiâs dependence on Mom has lessened over time⊠how military school has pushed him to clean his own room and wash his own clothes for once.Â
For the first time, Katara feels like an empty nester, her only company being the air acolytes and attendants who keep Air Temple Island in good maintenance. She spends her days visiting her healing clinics in Republic City, being stopped occasionally by a local for either a thank-you regarding her work services, or to express some city-related concern to relay back to the Avatar when he returns. More often than not, itâs the latter... and Katara has mastered a very specific, very polite smile for those moments. She spends her days handling Aangâs correspondence, writing on behalf of him since his own scribe follows the Avatar everywhere and this task has helped her feel close to her husband when theyâre apart. Sheâs already learned to differentiate the mail that exudes serious business matters over the ones that are glorified love-letters dressed as serious business matters for the young, attractive Messiah of their world. Those pinches of jealousy she first felt when reading these letters had long left her system, now replaced by little eye-rolls of amusement and weighed sighs of deep, deep sympathy. Nevermind that this Messiah has been married for almost twenty years, with three children⊠yet Katara canât blame them.
She knows what itâs like, to idolize something for such a long time that it becomes impossible to let go⊠or perhaps how, after so many years eclipsing the person behind the idea, letting go no longer feels like an option.Â
She takes her meals alone, in the second floor balcony overlooking Republic City and reflects on her work, how she has become a renowned Healer, and gives herself the space and time to read the newest letter with the Fire Lordâs seal. Itâs correspondence that has arrived the last few years-- ever since they last reconnected in Republic City for the global peace summit, when Katara had stood aside when the council debated about the rise of bloodbending in the city. When the time came for Avatar Aang to announce the vote to outlaw it, Master Katara quietly rose her hand. Zuko saw her removed face that came with that handâ Aang did not.Â
And during council recess, it was Zuko who approached her about the vote, and she confessed how this had been a long-pressing debate at home as much as in the cityâ Aang had every reason to want to outlaw it. And when Zuko asks her if there were any potential reason to keep it, Kataraâs eyes lit up⊠thinking about her healing him in the Agni Kai again Azula⊠that maybe there was a way to combine bloodbending with surgical techniques for healing.
She talks about this to Zuko, as if it had been in her mind for years and years.Â
Zuko promises to help her in the effort, and so their correspondence began⊠trying to find various healing techniques that combined sophisticated efforts in the Fire Nation, the traditional holistic methods of Southern Water Tribe and the complex, controversial bloodbending to practice in Republic City. They look at the possibility of invasive surgery methods with some kind of anesthesia ⊠introducing bloodbending as long as itâs not hurtful and as long as patients can give consent to it. All they need is herbal medicines to numb patients enough so as to not feel any pain. Â
They talk about this for years, while bloodbending remains illegal and yet rampant in Republic City⊠and Aang notices the fire in Kataraâs eyes at dinner, when she brings up her research on unconventional healing. She almost gives Sokkaâs scientific brain a run for the money.Â
In their letters, Zuko and Katara become partners in this research⊠and despite the correspondence being strictly professional, it becomes something of a refuge for the two friends⊠a little beating heart that keeps them sane from the everyday political, emotionally invisible parts of their lives. They never talked about their growing children, or the rust taking shape in their respective marriages⊠they know better than to be so indiscreet in a written document.Â
In his most recent letter, Fire Lord Zuko announces that his Minister of Agriculture is planning a summer research trip on the cultivation of holistic herbs in this small island of Hivaleya⊠and not only has funding been approved for it but there is an opening for a healing expert to assist with the project. Without saying it, Katara can hear her friend inviting her to apply for the project that summer to the remote island, and... also without saying it⊠she has a feeling her friend would find his way there, too... even for a small time.Â
Itâs Zuko, after all.Â
Her heart beats like thunder, and she has no idea if itâs good or bad.
At least, not yet.
Katara arrives to the island at the start of summer, leaving Republic City in good hands with Toph and Sokka and Suki, if only they knew.Â
Zuko does shows up the following week after Katara's arrival, on a riveting Fire Nation cruiser with a small staff of attendants. When Zuko bows to her like a friend, she brings her arms to him tightly like a best friend⊠and he returns the favor.Â
They spend an entire day on the island at work along other scientists, planting and testing out leaves of herbs with a local tree oil and getting closer and closer to a formula for anesthesia, which would be a breakthrough for surgical procedures. They almost don't notice that it gets dark. When the attendants escort the Fire Lord to his assigned cabin, Zuko dismisses them, and he and Katara work through the night.
They barely get through any sleep as they work, talking and catching up⊠nothing but their most relaxed selves easing any tension. When Katara leans her laughing self to her best friend's frame, and looks up at him, she doesn't see the age lines of his brow or the peppering grays of hair covering his grin. It's like Zuko is once again the serious, stern boy she had taunted at the Western Air Temple. The golden sunrise of his eyes have returned, and Zuko says nothing but is only looking at her, carefully. Cautiously. And the two friends realize how, perhaps, underneath all of their professional, platonic demeanor since Azulaâs Agni Kai⊠were feelings that never came to pass.Â
Itâs Katara who brings a gentle hand to Zukoâs face⊠the memories of a crystal-lit underground in Ba Sing Se returning to them mutually. Their bodies tense up, but then they hear themselves breathing quietly, relaxing all the apprehension awayâŠ. And their present lifeâ their research, their families, their duty, all honor as they know itâ completely fades into the distance.Â
Itâs Zuko who then bravely leans into Katara, and she meets him... a kind of gravity theyâd never experienced before. They kiss awkwardly⊠and then again, softly. And gently. And sweetly. Â
They rediscover how to kiss as they hold each other, protectively, while the bonfire runs its course. In the dead of night, among the noise of so much unfamiliar wildlife... Katara invites Zuko to her designated cabin in the woods⊠and they remain there, discovering their bodies and fulfilling wishes their minds had entirely abandoned but their hearts had secretly kept safe.
When they kiss, itâs quiet; when they move⊠itâs gentle and giving, loud and reassuring, and oh, so sweet. They can hear the tropical birds beginning to chirp outside as they stir awake, gloriously naked and in each othersâ arms⊠the two of them living a selfish yet beautiful present, for once. They quietly agree to get up before the research staffers arrive back to work, but neither Zuko nor Katara move from the bed but instead look over to the sunrise⊠a sun greeting an ocean. They smile lazily as they rest, as if theyâd rested this way with each other forever.Â
They make every second count during those remaining days, trying to focus on the work without stealing any smiles or glances or soft grazes of a hand. They wait until all the staff have left for the night -all of them oblivious to what two middle-aged adult friends might be up to- to continue their precious little time together.Â
Zuko watches Katara waterbend on the beach and invites himself to spar, already knowing heâs at a disadvantage but not caring about that at all. When they chase each other along the beach at sunset, they look like restless children in their silhouettes⊠laughing as they fall into a wrestling heap in the sand⊠the sun and the ocean bearing witness to all of it. The king struggles a walk in the sand as he carries his queen to his own cabin that night, but they laugh and steal kisses along the way.Â
The second night comes more slowly for them as they kiss and undress⊠reinacting things from the night before, but with less of an urgency to it. They take their time, gradually discovering what they like⊠a language made up not so much of words as it is with touch, and eyes, and breath. Zuko awakes with the sun, and when he passes the soft ridges of a wildflower along Kataraâs back, she stirs her eyes open with a smile.
âDid I disrupt your dream?â he rasps.
She glances at him sweetly. âNo.â
Zuko grins, and as the flower continues to graze her back, Katara canât remember if sheâd ever experienced playfulness like that beforeâ not even from Aang.Â
When Katara leans over to Zuko for their lips to touch⊠and touch, and touch and touch as a âthank youâ, Zuko canât remember if heâs ever experienced that kind of gentleness before⊠definitely not from Mai.Â
Itâs the third day that brings a hungry desperation back to them, forgetting themselves and moving through a sleepless night⊠biting, scratching and clutching... saying things theyâd always meant to keep hidden in the deepest corners of their hearts.... recalling scars, and healing sessions, and council meetings, coronations, weddings, funerals, births.... things they had said in passing, recounting even the smallest details of what they were wearing⊠how a smile, or a laugh, or a single-met-glance had almost driven them mad, made them willing to risk it all for just one brush of their hand... and oh⊠declarations, loud enough for the stars to hear as they switch positions on Kataraâs bed while barely breaking apart and moving some more⊠yet remaining together, moving feverishly as a unit in all of this unbelievable need.Â
This feels right, their eyes say. This was what had always been meant to be.
Him, and her. Â
They hold each other as they finally rest, Katara pressing her mouth to his shoulder⊠kissing everywhere she can to make him feel at home, and whole. Zuko hums.
As loud as they had been all that night, the handful of words they exchange next come barely as whispers, caressing their closest arms for comfort. Zuko breaks the long silence.
âIâm sorry.â
âNo. I wanted this.â
âKataraââ
âAnd if a baby happens, Iâll... take it.â
âAre you sure?âÂ
âYes. Do you want a baby with me?âÂ
Zuko tears up. âIâI always have. I just couldnâtââ
âI know." Katara can only look away, ashamed. "Me too.â
âI wanted a life with you.â
Katara nods in agreement, tears down her cheeks, her body shaking.
 âBut if all we can have is a child, Iâll fight for that." Zuko presses his forehead to hers. "I wonât run.â
âI know you wonât.â
And they kiss, with a newfound bravery underneath a careful sense of fear of what might occur.Â
And yet⊠in their kisses, their exhausted and aged bodies⊠and in the tears that they wipe gently from their respective eyes, Zuko and Katara can already feel that a child will never come.
They know it without even exchanging any words about it.Â
They know their story is not meant to leave the island, but still⊠they remain in that peace for the rest of those days, avoiding every angle of their harsh reality, and then wish each other well... and promise to stay in touch.Â
On their final morning together, they take separate baths. Â
When Zuko returns to the palace⊠Mai is there, sitting in the grand study reading as if sheâd been on the same page for decades. She obediently stands in the Fire Lordâs presence, but doesnât go to Zuko because he asks, âWas there anything pressing that occurred while I was gone?âÂ
In an instant, she knows⊠but it seems her body had known for a much longer time by the way Mai feels her bones going heavy, her frame stiffening, her breath holding back.Â
Mai smiles, but only with her mouthâ it was easier that way. âNoâ nothing.â And so it goes, for the rest of their life.Â
Mai never mentions the way his eyes would light up at breakfast, whenever he got business correspondence from Air Temple Island with a Watertribe symbol on the wax seal. Mai doesnât mention it because she doesnât let him go; she keeps Zuko for herself, even when his little smiles to her cease to exist, when he no longer pays a late-night visit to her bedchambers⊠when she, one night, is greeted in utter humiliation to a locked door to his⊠she loves him so much, she is willing to put up with all of it.Â
Aang, on the other side of the world, lives his days obliviously to what is on Kataraâs mind. She serves him, as she always has, and doesnât put up a fight for the things he wants⊠but his visions betray him. The doubt creeps in like a poisonous rat-viper, but Aang doesnât approach Katara about itâ itâs not his nature to accuse.Â
And anyway, sheâs still with him; that has to count for something.Â
But when they make love, not even the Great Bridge, the divine medium between both worlds could keep away the golden hues of the mere mortal king who consumed the waterbenderâs thoughts⊠despite this king living a continent away. In her sleep, Katara would mumble a name that wasnât his⊠and Aang thought it to be his mind playing cruel tricks on him. Aang never questioned his wifeâs devotion, because she was always there, loving the Avatar.Â
And even when her gaze would fall past him, Aang questioned nothing. It was easier, this way.
Decades later, when Mai passes away... Zuko mourns alone in white to a woman who relentlessly stayed true to her love. He does not write Katara about the news, as this news must have already reached Air Temple Island.
There is a part of Katara who quietly, selfishly craves to go to her old friend when no one is looking. Thereâs a wince of her once-bold self that she sees, already packing her bags and sneaking out of the temple, taking the first boat towards the Fire Nation Capital.
But she doesnât.Â
Instead she writes to Zuko with tears in her eyes⊠âFire Lord Zuko, Iâm so sorry for your loss, and I wish could be there to comfort you in this grief. Letâs support each other with the happiness we have in this life. Iâll be there for you in the next one.â Â
Zuko reads this with tears in his eyes, more of hope than of loss.
A few years later, after Avatar Aang uses his final breaths to ask his wife to guide the next Avatar into this role, Katara does not refuse.Â
For the rest of their lives, Master Katara and Fire Lord Zuko serve the Avatar as allies... the yet the two friends remain at arms length through their letters regarding the progress of the first invasive surgical clinic at Republic City.Â
The project is the closest thing that Katara and Zuko would ever make together, found by courage and dedication⊠a project that would outlive any child they may have ever had.
Decades later, when their times finally come, only a few days of each other⊠Bumi and Kya and Tenzin open the letter their mother had left them for her final burial wishes.
Izumi realizes that her father had written a similar letter to her, too
The letters were asking to let his ashes rest not in the fire tombs of the ancient lords, or hers in the deep crevices of the southern water tribe⊠but instead to be poured together onto the shores of this tiny, practically uncharted island called Hivaleya.
The children look at each other... puzzled from this news. Confused by the cryptic request. Angry from the implications of it⊠and sad, all the same.
Itâs their children who light the candles and pour their remains, praying and hoping that their parents find each other in the afterlife.
illicit nights
âa little less conversation and a little more touch my body.â
shuri x black!reader | 18+
Summary: You were born and raised in Wakanda, but you chose to leave to pursue a modeling career. You've amassed global fame as an international model, gracing runway shows, featuring in luxury campaigns, and appearing in fashion magazines. You're in the spotlight, and the entire world is watching your every move. After a very public breakup, you decide to return home to reconnect with your country and the people you love.
You didn't expect to catch the attention of your sister's best friend in your attempt to get over your heartbreak, let alone end up in a private sexual relationship with said friend. The Wakandan Queen.
word count: 5.9k
themes: model/famous reader, queen shuri, childhood friends, hookups
warnings: sex, drinking, idk i forget yâall read this before
hi! đ€§đ this is actually kinda hard because i never title my stories in the documents and i make copies when iâm editing in case i delete something and i want it so iâm going through so many documents to find the right one and then all the outfits are gone. i canât remember the themes and warnings i put⊠anyways, yâall good sister is back up
When you decided not to attend Wakanda University to pursue a modeling career, you did not doubt that you would succeed. Your parents wanted you to follow in the footsteps of your elder sister, but subjects like physics and calculus never piqued your interest. There was a lot of debate regarding your decisions, especially when you told your family that you were leaving Wakanda. Many Wakandans live beyond the borders, but you weren't looking for a simple life.
You were blessed with breathtaking beauty and the qualities for which others were willing to pay millions. It's hardly surprising with a face like yours, in just a few years, your career has skyrocketed to unfathomable heights, catapulting you into worldwide fame. Every fashion week, you're on the runway, traveling worldwide for campaigns, fittings, and numerous billboards of your face.
While you like the acclaim and spotlight, you quickly learn that being such a public figure in the entertainment industry has drawbacks. You have been in a highly publicized relationship with actress Mya Hope for nearly two years. Maybe it was your naivety, being new to everyone, but you and Mya hit it off immediately. It was lovely initially, but as your relationship progressed, it was just continuous disputes, mistrust, and resentment. You endured it because you expected things to change one day, but then Mya cheated. You learned through a gossip article that several individuals provided you with via text and social media.
Because her infidelity provided concrete evidence that things weren't working out between the two of you, you broke up. It was awful after the public found out. You've had relationships in the past, but they were the silly childlike attachments all kids have as time passes. Nothing has ever been this long or public. Being followed around and pressured into making a statement about something so personal was a culture shock. Who in their right mind wants to expose their private grievances to the rest of the world?
This month was an emotional roller coaster, and after wrapping up a photo shoot for Dior's upcoming campaign, you instructed your manager not to arrange anything else. You needed some alone time and wanted to go home and rest away from everything and everyoneâhome, not LA.
With the help of your older sister, Izara, by the end of the week, you'll be back in the safety of your rightful home, Wakanda.
Your mother never approved of Mya, and despite your best efforts to keep your family informed, she had kept up with your activities in your work through Western media, including your relationship. You guessed it was because she was afraid you'd end up permanently residing outside of Wakanda, but maybe mother intuition told her the relationship wasnât right for her daughter.
When you arrived at the house where you'd grown up and rushed back to your mother's arms, she didn't criticize or tell you that you should have listened. "I expected you to say I told you so." You inform her.
"A mother can only guide her child and hope that they will listen, but it's our responsibility to be here when you fall," she adds as she pulls you tight.
The next day, your sister comes over first thing in the morning. Izara was four years older than you. You two were close; she was your elder sibling, and you naturally respected her intelligence and accomplishments. However, as you matured, you came to see that you had different interests despite your shared affection for one another. While Izara excelled at technology and engineering, you discovered a love of fashion and beauty. You loved your nation and knew you could build a successful career in Wakanda once you found you wanted to be a model, but you wanted to be known worldwide.
Being the baby of the family, it was difficult for your family to accept that you were going, but they realized deep down that there wasn't much they could do to influence you or your choices. As they witnessed your success, your family became increasingly supportive and proud. The only disadvantage is that your career has kept you away from Wakanda and the people you care about. It was challenging to find time to return home while growing your profession. You weren't worried about taking time off now that you were in a secured position in the industry.
âWhat are you moving back in?â Your sister makes a joke about all the things you brought. One packing rule you had was that it was better to be cautious than sorry. Youâd rather overpack than need something thousands of miles away. After all, you didn't arrive by plane. A Wakandan aircraft had no weight restrictions.
Your mother is quick to reprimand her. âHush. My child is always welcome to come back.â
âI- I donât know about moving back yet,â You admit, dismissing any thoughts your mother has about you moving in. "But, I'll be here a little while." Though you did not intend to stay in Wakanda indefinitely, you weren't in a hurry to go. The combination of fresh air and your mom's homemade pastries positively impacted your mood.
Later, you and your sister relaxed in the living room while your mother was in the kitchen. She was so excited to see both of her daughters under the same roof after such a long period that she rushed to prepare tea and lime cake. Your favorites. âNo moping. Your sadness is going to make me sad,â Izara says, frowning at you.
"I'm not moping," you say with a sigh. âIt wasnât even going to last. We fought a lot. I knew I was unhappy, but all the attention was overwhelming. It simply has to blow over." Your sister was the only person who understood the ins and outs of your previous relationship. She was your closest confidante and had warned you to leave Mya so often that she was probably exhausted by how stubborn you were.
Izara hums understandingly. âDonât worry. It will. Those silly foreigners will find something else trivial and pointless to focus on. In the meantime, you need to be out and enjoy being single.â She advises. âLike, whenâs the last time you had sex?â
âIzara, shut up,â thereâs a warning in your tone. You confided in your sister about many things, but that was where you drew the line. She didn't need to know what you did, and you didnât need to know what she did. Though the question did make you think, itâs been over a month since the initial break up, and you and Mya had long stopped being intimate. The passion just wasnât there.
Izara is always persistent and keeps talking. âWhat! Weâre both grown. We can talk about that now.â
âAbsolutely not.â You groan, deciding to change the conversation to focus on your sister, âHow is work?â Sheâd recently been promoted at her job working in the laboratory at the palace. She had called to tell you, but you had been in the midst of a photoshoot. Part of you felt bad you couldnât give her your full attention upon hearing the news.
As the director of research methodologies, she spent a great deal of time in the various villages conducting focus groups to determine where improvements were needed. She then brought the data back to the lab, where they worked to enhance the areas that needed it. âIt's incredible. I feel good knowing that my work has a positive influence.â Your sister has always been active in the community, dedicating her life to helping others.
âThatâs amazing, Izara. Iâm proud of you.â You say because you genuinely are, even though you didnât take after your sister and her love for science. Her drive and passion are admirable. âItâs okay. Itâs your job not to be fucked up so I can be the rebellious one.â
That gets a laugh out of your sister. Youâve missed that sound. âNot to brag, but Iâve been considering returning to University for my Ph.D.. Shuri is encouraging me.â
Shuri. Since childhood, the Princess, now Queen of Wakanda, was your sister's best friend. They attended the same primary school and connected instantly. You recall when Izara snuck Shuri into your home for a playdate, unbeknownst to your mother and the King and Queen. The Dora Milaje arrived at your mother's home with spears in hand before learning that the mischievous princess had sneaked away to play with her new companion. Your cheeks rise as you recall that day. "There's that smile again!"
âJust remember the time you almost got our entire family executed.â You chuckle, and Izara groans. She hates this story.
âWe didnât know any better!â After that day, Queen Ramonda invited your sister to the palace to play to prevent any other misunderstandings. Shuri would occasionally come to your house, allowing the two girls to form a lasting bond. âYou had the biggest crush on her. You used to follow us around whenever sheâd come over,â Izara added, laughing as if it was the funniest thing in the world.
For the record, it was a brief crush. The wooden doll house you had collapsed a few weeks before your seventh birthday, and you cried all night about it. Shuri presented you with a fully equipped doll house for your birthday. You recall looking on with wide eyes as she demonstrated all of the functions, the lights switched on, and water poured out of the sink. Still, you'd never acknowledge it. âI did not have a crush on her. I was following you. I wanted to be just like you until I realized how boring you were.â You snickered. A look of disbelief crosses your sister's face, and you laugh harder.
"I should thank Shuri," you say once you've quieted down. When you told Izara you were planning to return home, she enlisted the assistance of her best friend, who made every effort to ensure your safe arrival. You're not sure you could have endured another moment amid the chaos.
âYou should, and she would love to see you.â Your sister agrees. âI have to go to the office tomorrow. Actually, we can stop over there, and then we can go to the shops. I have to buy Aneka a birthday gift.â Aneka, another one of your sister's friends. She had such a bold personality but was always kind to you. âOh, and youâre coming Saturday.â
"I-" you start, thinking for a moment. There's no justification for you staying at home, feeling miserable over a failed relationship that wasn't going anywhere. It's been a little more than a month, and you're supposed to be unwinding and having fun. Izara squeals and orders you to be prepared by an ungodly hour after you accept.
You and your sister traveled to Birnin Zana the following day. You knew the Golden City but had never been within the Citadel. While your sister is likely to be familiar with both the interior and outside of the high-rise glass tower, you have never stepped foot inside. With all the Dora Milaje present, it was a little intimidating, and you did your best to keep up with your sister in your heels. As Izara was a few steps ahead of you, someone you imagined was a staff member gave you a strange look. âStop walking so fast.â
Izara ignores your request and keeps moving. "No one told you you had to wear those shoes." She lets you catch up by coming to a halt in front of an elevator.
âItâs not the shoes. Itâs you.â You argue, coming up to her as you wait for the elevator.
As you rode the elevator, your thoughts turned to the new Queen. Several years have passed since your last interaction with her. Shuri had always impressed you with her intelligence, and she was extraordinarily strategic and visionary. She undoubtedly carried those attributes with her when she ascended to the throne.
âI didn't tell her you were coming. Sheâs going to be so surprised.â Izara scans her badge and enters the lab. You follow behind her. âShuri, I have the file you asked for; sorry, I was reviewing it over to make sure we caught all the errors from the last trial and-â
Shuri had looked up when she heard your sister's voice, but you saw her eyes widen in your presence. âY/N?â You watch as she blinks a few times, taking you in.
Shuriâs hair was short now, the sides shaved, and her hair coiled into a mohawk. She wore a light gray boiler suit. Truth be told, you did have a crush on Shuri when you were younger but grew out of it. It was the projection of a childish imagination. It faded with time and age as you ventured away from your sister and developed your own relationship with friends, no longer in the same space as the Wakandan Princess. But now, she looks good, very good.
âHi,â you say, happy to see another familiar face. After being surrounded by strangers and new faces for the past few years, the familiarity of home was comforting. "I appreciate you arranging transportation for me to get here." You instantly tell her, knowing the reason for your visit. You did not intend to disturb her.
Shuri is quick to respond, âOf course, Izara said you wanted to visit. It was no trouble.â It was the honest truth. You know Shuri would do anything for your sister and, in relation, you.
Izara smiles, âIâm happy to have my little sister home though I wish it were under better circumstances. Iâm trying to cheer her up.â Your sister pinches your cheeks and immediately moves away from reach when you swat her hand away. She might be a little obnoxious. You are not a baby.
âI am not a baby.â You vocalize, rolling your eyes.
"You'll always be my baby," she replies with a childish pout. "Now, wait right here. Iâll be back. Iâm going to grab something from my office.â Izara says as she walks out of the lab, leaving you and Shuri alone.
You begin to appreciate the painting on the cylindrical pillar in the room, assuming you won't bother Shuri anymore, but Shuri speaks. âTo what do I owe this visit? Not every day, I have Wakandaâs most famous supermodel walking into my lab,â she jokes.
Itâs clear sheâs being humorous, but your face heats up. âOh, I wanted to see you and say thank you. Iâm just following Izara around, and weâre going to pick out a birthday gift for Aneka.â You explain, trying to ignore the sensation in your cheeks.
Shuri is now leaning back against one of the tables, completely focused on you. "What did Izara mean when she said 'better circumstances'?" She inquires, her gaze fixed on yours.
She patiently waits. You pause, unsure how much you should reveal. All the arguments and nights of crying make you question if your sister ever mentioned Mya to Shuri. You make the decision to keep things simple. âIâm going through a very public breakup which means nothing to anyone here but everything to the media out there.â
âYou know how hard it is to be walking down the street and be harassed with a thousand questions about your ex?â It was a rhetorical question. The media was ruthless and would stop at nothing until they could pull enough out of you to exploit for their own selfish advantage.
Shuri, being the intellect she is, probably realizes you'd rather not discuss this and moves on. "Wakanda, thankfully, does not have such an animalistic journalism system." Culturally, there was a high level of respect and awareness throughout the community that your business was private. Wakanda was far more developed and gave little thought to gossip and drama.
You were thankful for that. Breakups arenât easy, no matter how shitty the relationship was. External stress wasnât helping with your mood. You finally felt like you could breathe. âExactly. Anyways Iâm happy to be back.â
âAny plans?â She asks.
You shake your head. âOther than spending time with my family, no.â Further into your stay, youâd probably come up with some type of itinerary, but you were laying low for now. âIzara thinks I should be out enjoying being single.â She or your mom would probably try to set you up sooner or later.
Shuri nods in agreement. âSheâs right, you know? Thereâs no reason to waste time thinking about someone who isnât thinking about you when you could be having fun.â
The bluntness of Shuriâs words surprises you. âI suppose Iâm young. I should be doing what I want with who I want.â You remark in a lighthearted tone.
Shuri glances at you, licking her lips, and winks. "Exactly," she replies. Your heart rate increases. Is she hitting on you?
Izara returns, and you both say goodbye to the Queen before heading to the shops. The brief exchange has left your thoughts in a frenzy. You spent the rest of the day trying to persuade yourself. Shuri was undoubtedly attractive, but there was no way a years-old crush would be rekindled within seconds of seeing her again. A crush you had when you were five at that, but the way her tone held so much suggestion.
Wakanda's nightlife was always lively. People come together, clubbing at the same venue, existing at the same time in the same place. It was an essential aspect of the culture and many people's choice for a social gathering or celebration.
The next night, you're on Elixir's second floor, famed for its massive and powerful alcoholic beverages. Aneka's party had the entire floor to themselves, and she leaped up and down as soon as she noticed you. âAh! Baby Izara! We see your billboards when weâre on missions outside Wakanda.â She tells you, and you feel shy under all the attention. It was nice to know that the people at home were supportive in seeing you thrive. "Thank you!" You exclaim as you hug her. You said hello to a couple more people before ordering a cocktail and settling in. You're seated alone in one of the many round booths. Your sister and a few others had gone downstairs to join the sea of crowded and sweaty bodies.
You had the idea to go down there. Dance on someone, make an emotionless connection, and return to their apartment, but you know in the back of your mind that it wasn't for you. Impersonal connections lack the comfort of knowing each other's bodies and personalities.
There's quite a commotion at the club's entrance, and you peek down to see all the excitement. Shuri navigated the crowd with a small group of individuals following behind her. The woman was dressed in all black, with form-fitting pants and a tailored blazerâdark shades, shielding her eyes from those around her.
You felt something stirring deep within you the entire time your attention was drawn to her.
The sheer strength and command of her presence divides the crowd. She doesnât have to ask. Everything about her screams dominance, and you can't deny that you're drawn to it, trying not to let your imagination wander into the illicit territory. This was not a crush. This was pure want. Shuri makes her way up the large metal steps, where she is embraced by the bubbly birthday girl who has had too many drinks. âShuri! You made it,â Aneka says excitedly. The sweet look Ayo gives her excited girlfriend warms your heart. They're adorable.
Before hugging Aneka, the Queen leans in and says something only she can hear. She fades from view as she moves deeper into the scene, most likely conversing with others. When you see Shuri again, she's walking over to you, drink in hand, her steps purposeful.
She slides into the booth across from you without asking. âIâm surprised youâre not down there dancing. What happened to being young and single?â She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Please," you retort. "So I can have sweaty men press their balls on my back. Thank you, but no." Your lips were pursed.
âSo you came out to sit around?â Shuri comments. âIn such a pretty outfit,â she notes. Her eyes are covered behind those black shades, but her statement indicates she's checking you out, taking in the way your boobs sit nicely and the tiny skirt displaying the silky flesh of your upper thigh. There's a trace of something in her voice as if she's coaxing you to reveal more, understanding there's more to your decision to isolate yourself. Again, a tempting tone.
Youâre not in the mood for mind games. âYou ask a lot of questions. Besides, are you not doing the same thing?â Your voice is laced with skepticism as you eye her.
Shuri lets out a disagreeing sound. âIâm here to celebrate Aneka and enjoy my night.â
If she can tease you, why canât you do the same? You twirl your tongue around the straw in your drink, and Shuri canât look away. âSince youâre here with me, am I a part of the enjoyment?â
When your eyes meet, thereâs a glint of danger in them. âI think you should behave.â Her tone was low and warning.
If she believed that would get you to listen, she was mistaken. That resulted in the opposite effect, as you felt arousal between your legs. "And what if I don't?" You push, your eyes innocent, as if you had no idea how provocative your tone was. She looked damn good in that suit.
You were putting aside the complication caused by the fact that Shuri was your sister's best friend and the Queen of your country. Something enticed you to make a move on her. You notice the cherry in her glass and immediately say, "I can tie that with my tongue." It was a cool trick you picked up from a model in Cannes. People were always shocked at how simple you made it look before trying it themselves.
Shuri glances at you as she takes the cherry into her mouth instead of answering vocally. The stem is just beyond her lips, and her brows are lifted, waiting for you. You bend across the table, making sure not to brush your lips together as you move the stem from her mouth to yours. She keeps a close eye on you while you concentrate on your task, stretching your tongue upward and trapping it against the roof of your mouth.
You stick your tongue out after pushing the end through the loop, revealing the knotted cherry stem to Shuri. She removes her glasses, folds them, and sets them next to her cherry-free drink. Eyes filled with fire. âStop looking at me like that.â You could sense a level of hesitation from the woman. Behave wasn't a no; it simply indicated she was attempting to get you to back off since her resolve was slipping.
You roll your eyes as you remove the stem from your tongue and place it on a napkin. âYou know youâre practically undressing me with your eyes.â You could see a glimmer of hunger in her features, and you knew you had her right there.
âMmm, Iâm not the one showing off tongue tricks,â Shuri smirks, sipping her drink.
Before you can say anything, a breathless voice breaks the tension between you. âShuri!â your sister and two of the girls had returned from the dancefloor. âScoot over. Iâm taking a five-minute break.â Izara says. You can see the sweat on her forehead. You start to shift over to make room for everyone, and youâre forced to be pressed against Shuri, depleting the distance.
Upon their arrival, Shuri redirects her attention to her best friend, âHey, Zar. I was just asking your sister why she wasnât dancing.â Glancing at you with a smug look, she was enjoying this.
Izara nods, âI told her she needed to get down there and have fun. Itâs been five weeks, and the best way to get over someone is to get under someone new.â
As you drum your fingers across the glass table top, a sigh escapes your lips. Iâm trying, you think. "I'm not keen on hooking up with strangers," you answer instead. You were discrete with your words. Sneaking a quick look over at Shuri when you say it, you find her already staring back at you. Her expression has now become unreadable.
Izara sighs. Her sole motive for inviting you was for you to have fun; she probably believed you weren't having a great time, but your attention was attracted to something you didn't need to search for. You wouldnât tell her that, though. "Oh, Bast, you need more liquor." She approaches a waiter and orders a round of shots.
As soon as the waiter places the shot glasses on the table, all eyes turn to you. You reached forward, grabbed one shot, pinched the lime, and tossed back the tequila, promptly sucking the lime between your teeth and dropping it into the empty shot glass. "That's my girl," Izara says, clapping.
The five-minute breaks last a lot longer than five minutes. Your poor sister was utterly unaware that she was cock-blocking. She and Shuri were having a casual conversation about who knows. You weren't paying attention. Maybe she senses you getting restless beside her, but you feel a hand rest on your leg. Shuri continues to converse with Izara while her fingertips brush your left thigh. You let out a sharp, deep breath before composing yourself. The soft touch riles you up. Shuri taunts you by not moving her hand any higher. She rests it there, stroking your skin, knowing itâs driving you crazy.
Shuri is winning this game you're playing together, but you have a plan.
When your sister returns to the main level, she attempts to get you to accompany her, and you make up an excuse, promising to do so after you use the restroom. When you and Shuri are alone again, you slap her hand and glare at her. âYou should move your hand if youâre going to start something you canât finish. Iâm not in the mood to be teased.â
As you get up to leave, you grab a second shot, downing it before smiling. It's a mind-numbing high that blocks all of your feelings except lust. "I'll be really upset if this night doesn't end with me in your bed." You whisper, walking away, not bothering to wait for Shuriâs reaction. There was no point in playing games when you wanted her, and she clearly wanted you. Thatâs why you knew she would follow you.
The bathroom is located down a dim corridor with purple fluorescent lights. You're walking down the hall when you hear quick footsteps behind you. A hand catches your waist, pressing you against a solid body. Away from prying eyes, Shuri holds you against her, moving your hair to expose the side of your neck, âDo you want to dance with me after?â She speaks with hushed tones.
Mission completed.
You shook your head and turned to face her. "I wasn't here to dance." Dancing was a waste of time because neither of you wanted to do it. Every second more you spent in this club was a moment wasted when she could be inside of you.
Shuri paused for a moment, her eyes clouded with longing. "You realize what you're asking of me." Your mind wanders to Izara. All the red flags were flying in your head. This was your sister's closest friend and her most recent boss. Shuri felt off-limits for some reason. But you swiftly block out all of that.
âDonât complicate things. I wouldnât be here asking you to bring me home and fuck me in the middle of a club if I didnât,â you said. You've teased and flirted with the Queen all night, and now nothing stops you from ending the night in bed with her. âNo kissing, no intimacy, itâs just sex.â You assure her.
âFuck, you feel so good.â You gasp as Shuri thrusts back inside, making your body tremble in response. Itâs one of the many compliments youâve given her through the night as she takes you further into euphoric bliss.
Maybe it's because you haven't had sex in what seems like an eternity, but the slide in feels like heaven. The first thrust has you seeing stars, and every move since then has you letting out an endless stream of moans. You were on your knees, Shuri kneeling behind you, going at unrelenting speed.
You're both high on adrenaline and lust, making your body hum and your head spinâsweaty bodies work together as your heartbeats syncopate in a rhythmic acceleration. You can't recall the last time you felt so attuned to another person, so alive.
Her hands are all over you, one of her arms reaching from behind to support your upper body, cupping your chest while her fingers tease your nipple. You figure the mind of a genius is used to focusing on multiple things at once because despite her fast thrust, the fingers on Shuriâs other hand stroke along your clit, gently knowing what you need, where to touch you, and how to touch you.
âHarder, harder- fuck, donât stop.â You reach around to find Shuriâs hips and hold them, following her movements in an attempt to feel her closer. âSuch a bossy girl.â Shuri pants but drives into you with more force.
She eventually removes the arm that has been holding you up and pushing you forward. At this angle, she's hitting the spot inside you that has you unable to speak, trapped in an endless repeat of pleasure as the sensation causes your skin to prickle.
Collapsing onto the bed, you cushion your head on the pillow, and your back arches beautifully. âFuck Shuri. C-close,â you stutter, your voice weakly coming out between your pants. The way Shuri was easily manipulating your body to take her deeper made you want to scream. "I can't wait to see you come looking for me." Shuri breathes and snaps her hips.
"You're going to look gorgeous." She goes on, talking you through it. "Should take a picture and put it on the front cover of every magazine. Everyone can see how pretty you are when youâre getting fucked so good.â
Shuri's comments fill your head with filthy thoughts, even though you've never considered yourself an exhibitionist. Imagine one of the world's most famous models being railed by the Queen of Wakanda on a magazine cover. You two are certainly an obscene sight. âShould I let everybody see what a good girl you are, or is this only for me?â
"Only you," you answer thoughtlessly. Your mind was only centered on pleasure now. As you inhale sharply, the heat inside of you grows, and your body is frozen in ecstasy. Your eyes slip back as your stomach muscles contract in anticipation of eventually feeling that relief. Your eyes widen, your brows rise, your breath stutters, and your eyes close tightly. So tight, and youâre coming. It's quiet for a few moments, and then you're screaming Shuri's name, your voice breaking, your nails sinking into the covers.
As you move your hips back, little gasps escape your lips. âYouâre perfect. It feels so good. Want to keep fucking you.â Her words and tone are desperate as she pants, grinding into you, using the friction and pressure to reach her orgasm. You could get off just from the sound of her moans alone.
When Shuri pulls out, you fall into the satin sheets and turn over, sticky and satisfied, staring at the ceiling. You take a few moments to collect your breath and come down from your climax. You sense the bed shifting as Shuri fades from view.
On shaky legs, you stand up to scan the room for your belongings. There was no need for closeness or caressing. Both of you agreed to just sex, and you needed to get home as soon as possible. Your top is lying right in front of the door. That was the first thing to go.
âIâll have a member of the Dora escort you home.â Shuri comes back into the room from the bathroom, a tee shirt and boxers on now while youâre still struggling to locate your underwear.
âAre you crazy?â You pull the straps of your top on your shoulders and try to situate your breast inside. âIâm not even supposed to be here.â You whisper-shout. The reality was settling in now that the fire inside you had been put out. Izara would most likely interrogate you in the morning, thinking you went home with someone and you had time to think of a lie once you were home.
âImagine going to my mother's house with the Dora Milaje. - have you seen my panties?â Her head wanders sideways, and you follow her gaze to discover your underwear on top of the lampshade on the bedside table.
They undoubtedly landed there in her haste to strip you naked. Shuri takes them and hands them to you. "You're so messy," you mutter as you take them from her, leaning down to slip them on.
"You weren't complaining," Shuri chuckles. There goes that smug tone.
Before leaving, you get dressed, put on your heels, and turn to Shuri. âThis never happened. I was never here." You're both consenting adults, but having your sister in the mix complicates the situation. It was acceptable for the one time you both received much-needed relief, but it couldn't happen again for the sake of preserving normalcy. The elder remains silent. "Did you hear what I said?"
A confused sound leaves her lips. âI canât hear anything. I'm here by myself.â
You roll your eyes and walk out the door. Thatâs the end of that.
When youâre showered in bed and reflecting on tonightâs activities, it's later when your kimoyo beads ring.
Itâs Shuri.
âYes?â you answer, ensuring not to disturb your mom. It was late.
âI just wanted to make sure you got home safe.â you knew her concern was genuine because Izara would never forgive her if something happened to you.
âYes, I did. Thank you.â
She hesitates for a second, staring at you in contemplation before asking, âSo, are we going to talk about it?â Thereâs humor in her voice.
Not this. âDidnât we agree that I wasnât with you?â
"I'm not addressing that," Shuri responds immediately. "There is something far more intriguing on your lower back," she taunts, winking.
Your lips form an unconscious gasp. âShut up!â The first and only tattoo youâve ever received was in Paris after your first fashion week. You and a few other models get tattoos while feeling celebratory and possibly under the influence of a bit too much champagne. A tribal butterfly is permanently affixed to the center of your lower back. "No, we can't discuss it since you've never seen it." You remind her of this, your face heated. You can't believe you overlooked that.
"I completely understand." She responds, but the way she looks at you and bites her lip suggests otherwise.
Everything about her was enticing. You decide to end the call, âGoodnight, Shuri.â
âGoodnight, Y/N.â
You went to bed vowing never to do it again, a commitment tainted by dishonesty because it happened again.
Hello! Do you have any fics like âLetâs build a beehiveâ by GreyHaven?
Thanks for all you do!
Hey! I definitely got off track but here are a few similar fics.
Let's build a beehive by GreyHaven | 25K
Ten years after he last saw Derek, Stiles' life is in ruins and he has nowhere else to turn. He has Derek's address but will he be welcomed?
Not Quite Lost (Not Quite Found)Â by alocalband | 25K | Explicit
A year after the nogitsune is defeated, Derek is living a quiet life in the mountains above a small town in Colorado.
Then Stiles shows up.
The Sun Comes Crashing In by pinetreekate | 18K | Explicit
Coming back to the moment, the guy says, âSo, you got a plan for all your canning? A big family, or lots of friends and co-workers?â
âNot really,â Derek says wryly. âItâs a ⊠new hobby, I guess, and I got a little carried away.â A little, he thinks, thatâs a laugh. Hugely carried away, is more like it. âI have way, way more than I know what to do with.â
âHappens,â the guy says, smiling into his eyes. Derekâs heart skips a beat as the eye contact lasts a second longer than it maybe should. âIâm Stiles, by the way,â he says, holding out a hand.
Derek shakes his hand, has to remind himself to let go. âDerek,â he answers, and feels his ears warm up.
Inertia by apocryphal | 21.6K | Mature
The last thing Derek and Cora are expecting to find outside their motel room is a gaunt Stiles Stilinski, lacrosse bag on one shoulder and the weight of the world on the other.
Gracious In Defeat by yodasyoyo | 18.1K | Mature
Stiles needs to get away from Beacon Hills after the end of his senior year. Derek offers to let him stay with him in SĂŁo Paulo, and they finally act on the tension that has always simmered between them.
The thing is, when itâs time to go home- Stiles doesnât want to leave.
The Moonâs Gonna Follow Me Home by turningterrific | 82.8K | Explicit
Derek doesnât want to call the window repair guy. He doesnât want to sweep up the glass. Heâll inevitably miss a few shards and pull them out of the bottom of his bare feet for weeks.
He doesnât want to try to make this place feel like home when it isnât.
Derek stayed in Beacon Hills and tried to make it work because he wanted pack, wanted purpose. He gave his best effort and found himself back where he started: alone, with a few begrudging allies. Heâs tired, and even though his werewolf body heals quickly, he feels the weary ache down to his center.
He packs his car with the few things he cares about enough to drag them from place to place. He locks the loft and calls a realtor about listing the building heâd bought in a misguided attempt to secure a future.
And then he leaves.
Pretty Melody by thepsychicclam | 30.5K | Explicit
Stiles hasn't seen Derek in six years, so when he shows up at the bar where Stiles works, claiming to be some indie rock star, Stiles can't believe it. Stiles has even more trouble believing that he and Derek are about to have a one night stand.
Soon one night turns into two and three, and seeing Derek causes old wounds to open for Stiles. As Stiles reconnects with Derek, he finds himself painting things he's been avoiding, and he thinks maybe he'll finally start to heal.
hyper heart alone by  hito | 34.5K
When Stiles returns home to help his father recover from an injury, he discovers that things have changed somewhat in his absence: Derek is working closely with Stilesâ father, around the house and underfoot, generally annoying and disconcerting Stiles with his presence.
Well, Stiles isnât sure you could call all the sex they end up having annoying, but he isnât really willing to call it anything else, either.
The Hollow Moon by  thepsychicclam | 180K
Itâs the summer after Stilesâ first year of college, and heâs working a crappy job and dealing with nightmares and anxiety - but heâs okay, he swears. He makes it through most days without too much trouble. Then, a certain werewolf comes back into town. Which Stiles doesnât care about, nope, not at all.
A Californian Werewolf in New York by dancinbutterfly, knight_tracer | 16.3K | Explicit
When Derek finally realizes that thereâs nothing left for him in Beacon Hills, he goes back to New York, gets a life, falls in love and finds his home.
there's a ritual for that by Spikedluv | 34.6K
Six months after Derek and Cora leave Beacon Hills, Stiles gets a text from Cora â theyâre in trouble and need help. Turns out that Derek is being wooed by a neighboring pack. The Alpha remembers his mother fondly and would love to have a Hale in her pack. Especially if that means she might breed in the ability to change into a full wolf. And sheâs not taking ânoâ for an answer, even when Derek lies and tells her that he already has a mate.
Except Derek didnât lie. When Stiles shows up to help with the emergency, he inadvertently discovers that he is Derekâs mate. Stiles tries not to think about it (he knows that the mate bond isnât written in stone, just look at Scott and Allison) as he (and Lydia, and Deaton) research mates and the challenges to the mate bond (because, of course thereâs a ritual for that) and try to keep the Alpha of the Palmer pack from discovering Stilesâ connection to Derek.
Home Is Wherever I'm With You by aussiebee | 9.9K | Explicit
Stiles goes backpacking across Europe and eventually settles with his family in Poland to go to uni there. He's trying his hardest to forget the drama of the past, and to get over a certain werewolf he once knew, but it turns out that's not as easy to do as he'd hoped.
Bumping into your ex at a party wasn't what you had in mind.
It was a night you were meant to enjoy with your girlfriends, being all dolled up in your best dresses and having your makeup done perfectly, you were ready to meet someone tonight. That idea came crashing down when you caught sight of him, Lee Heeseung, your ex.
You haven't heard from him in months after the break up. Although it was a friendly, mutual break up, things just weren't the same as it was. A three year relationship down the drain was painful and hard to fully let go, you didn't even know what went wrong. Somehow you also managed to avoid him most times, but apparently it just wasn't your night, was it?
"Y/N, please don't let him affect you," Wonyoung practically begged, personally witnessing your messy cries after the break up and wishing anything but for you to run back to him when the wound was still healing.
"I'm not," you said defensively, but frowned. "I think,"
"You think?"
"I'll avoid him and he won't affect me. Out of sight, out of mind,"
"You better," she said almost threateningly.
The rest of the hour passed by with you drinking sadly and Wonyoung off to somewhere else, which meant you were all on your own. Heeseung was nowhere in sight and you were glad, hoping it would stay that way.Â
It didn't.
An unknown number flashed on the screen of your phone. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to pick it up, but you did anyway, your instincts were telling you to do so.
"Hello?"
"Y/N?"
That voice.
"You didn't change your number," the voice from the other side said, amused.
"But you did," you breathed out, setting down the cup in your hand. "Heeseung,"
"I'm alone right now,"
"And?"
You could hear him exhaling, a beat passed. "Can you come over?"
"Are you insane?"
"No,"
Even though he couldn't see it, you rolled your eyes. "Are you feeling reminiscent? Or you just needed someone?"
"Not just someone, I need you,"
"Hee," you didn't realise you'd used your usual nickname for him until a second later, it was too natural, he was natural to be with. "I'm not just some hook up booty call you hit up after months of not talking,"
Heeseung scoffed. "You know I don't think of you like that. I never would. I miss you, genuinely, I do. I did some thinking lately and honestly, I want to see you,"
It was most likely a moment of weakness, but you could feel your self respect crumbling. You couldn't lie either, you've missed him as well, and the worst part was him calling you up and you were willing to go back to him.
"Send me your address." You hung up. The more you talked to him, and heard his voice, the more you felt your heart on the edge of combusting.
You were stupid. Your thoughts were practically screaming at you the moment you got out of the house and into your car. You know you were done with him, that you two were through, but God, when you think of him or look at him, you couldnât help but let yourself run back. This time, you were not immune to him. At all.
Seeing him tonight, it was a bad idea, right?Â
Fuck it, itâs fine.Â
Up on the second floor was his new place. There he was standing at the door, smiling widely as you approached. The devilishly charming smile that had you hooked in the first place pulled you in, and thatâs when you knew you werenât leaving anytime soon.Â
âHeeseung,âÂ
He looked as if he couldnât actually believe you were standing there right in front of him. After months of not reaching out or seeing each other fully, both of you were equally surprised by one anotherâs changes. A second passed before he grabbed a hold of your arm and pulled you in, closing the door behind him.Â
âIs it bad to say that Iâve missed you?â his voice came out in a whisper, you were barely inches away from his face, the familiar scent of his cologne welcomed you to melt into his hold further.
âIt is,â
âCan I have you for the night?â
âJust for tonight?â
âIt could be more than that if you like. Just say the word and Iâll be yours again,â
Your brain was haywiring, it was genuinely just going âahâ and you couldnât hear your thoughts.
âFuck it.â
Everything passed by in a blur. The next second you found yourself in his bed and suddenly it was three in the morning where you were wide awake, Heeseung however was sound asleep next to you. Sneaking your phone out and opening the groupchat with your girlfriends, you read over the hundreds of messages, ones where they said they wouldnât be home as theyâre staying over at someone elseâs. You typed in an update, telling them you were about to sleep, but never mentioned where or in whose sheets.
Oh, the walk of shame was going to be something the next morning.
Heeseung ended up dropping you off in the morning and bidding you goodbye before leaving. The casualness from him had you doubting your choices, but you stayed silent as you made your way to your dorm, where your friends awaited you. Maybe breaking the news that you hooked up with your ex wasnât the best choice either.
âYou did what?â Wonyoung stared at you with her coffee mug almost dropping to the ground.
âY/NâŠâ Yujinâs voice trailed off in disappointment, and you sat there swallowing down the dread.
âYes I know that heâs my ex, but canât two people reconnect?â you tried reasoning, but the other two didnât seem impressed. âI just tripped and fell into his bed,â
âSure you did,â Wonyoung sighed before taking a big sip out of her mug.
âHey, whatâs the worst thing that could happen?â you threw your hands up, trying to play it cool. âI only see him as a friend.â
Biggest lie youâve ever said.Â
Return to Nyan Nyaight Love-A Happy Ending in Sight?
Before I begin my analysis for Episode 9's NNL segment, I would like to thank everyone who reblogged my previous post and left kind and wholesome compliments about my analysis. It really warms my heart that so many of you guys enjoyed my thoughts on these segments. Especially if they helped provide a clearer understanding of what thematic purpose they serve in the Bucchigiri series. I'm more than happy to help and I appreciate the compliments.
Secondly, I'd like to thank @saph-yells-into-the-void for providing a majority of screenshots for me to use. Even though you didn't mind not being credited, you still deserve it for these great screenshots!
So just as a quick recap, the NNL segments serve as a Greek Chorus as they parallel the main story of Bucchigiri by using the customer's relationship with Jasmine to symbolize various relations and plot events. This time, their relationship parallels the main relationship of the series: Arajin and Matakara.
Episode 9: A Heartfelt Reunion
The segment starts with the customer being nervous as usual about whether he should go in, only to hurry inside as to avoid being spotted by Arajin who's on his way to the bathhouse. The customer is greeted by the receptionist who is still uneasy with him avoiding Jasmine. And even the customer himself looks less indecisive and more somber when he's asking for Pu'er instead of Jasmine.
As I mentioned in the Episode 1 segment, the customer is meant to symbolize Arajin while the catboy receptionist represents the colorful delinquents that Arajin encounters. And even though the first episode had Jasmine stand in for Mahoro, this time she stands in for Matakara.
The receptionist describes Jasmine as being strong-willed, clingy, and too much at times. Many of which are traits that are associated with Matakara.
-While Episode 9 shows him slowly succumbing to Ichiya's twisted therapy sessions, it's worth noting that it's been several days since when he first merged with the Blue Genie til then. So it's worth noting that Matakara lasted a good while before succumbing to Ichiya's will. And even before that, it was his strong will that helped him become stronger and find a place among Minato Kai while also evading the shadows that constantly haunted him. His determination in becoming stronger helped him to evade those shadows; maybe not vanquish them but not to succumb to them either.
-The clingy and too much at times qualities seem to go hand in hand as most of Matakara's screentime has been spent trying to reconnect with Arajin while holding him on a pedestal. Even as Arajin kept pushing him away, Matakara still clinged on to his idealized version of his best friend. One who constantly inspired him to be a Honki person and do the impossible. The too much at times part also works since Mataraka just wouldn't stop gushing over Arajin to his other friends or tries to force Mahoro to talk with him about Arajin and his involvement in Siguma Squad. While is very much a sunshine puppy boy, he can be quite overbearing when it comes to his old friend.
As of the last episode, Arajin made his true feelings for Matakara painfully clear and how he wants to avoid him at all costs. Only now the rest of the cast have taken notice and how much it's effecting Matakara given his refusal to talk to his other friends Zabu and Sakigake mixed with him running away from home. It's become a serious problem and they're all worried about him.
Something peculiar about the receptionist's behavior, and the whole scene overall, is how it's played for dramedy.
The receptionist treats the customer abandoning Jasmine as something tragic and how badly it's effecting her. There's soft music at play as the receptionist speaks his heart out about the cat's distress and how only the customer can help her.
But at the same time, it's just so ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous! There's no reason that the receptionist should need to be so invested in the customer's preferences in cats. They haven't actually bonded with each other apart from letting the customer in so he can spend time with the cats and spend Lord knows how much money. This is his job so it shouldn't matter which cat some random, pathetic everyman chooses to play with since he's still getting paid rather handsomely at the end of the day.
But it does matter to him.
Maybe (as far as we know) the receptionist doesn't know the customer very well but he (supposedly) knows that Jasmine truly misses him and is miserable without him. The receptionist could try to make Jasmine feel better herself given that he sees her more often and knows more about her. But he knows that she holds the customer in his heart and implores him to go back to her.
And while the Minato Kai boys don't care much for Arajin or flat out tell Arajin to patch things up with Matakara, they do make it clear that their friend isn't doing so well after their falling out. He's in need of help and they unfortunately can't do anything about it given how they were brushed aside. And even Mahoro, who also happens to be a colorful character that Arajin met when he entered the Ichizu gang life, has also picked up on Mataraka's despair and wants him to feel better. She clearly doesn't care for Arajin but she knows how much he means to Matakara, someone who understands her when it comes to valuing an older brother figure. She even flat out orders Arajin to go see how he's doing.
Something to consider is that while the Minato Kai boys and Mahoro have their respective but serious scenes with Arajin, they still have their quirky (questionable in Mahoro's case) personalities at play. Such as Sakigake singing his heart out in the bathhouse with Arajin while in his birthday suit to Mahoro having a tea party with a blow up doll of her big brother before learning about Matakara's brother. They're still weird and silly but they show how much heart they have and how they can empathize with someone who's at their lowest. And while they might not be the best person to help out, they know that Arajin is the best person to help them out.
Just like how the customer is the best person to help out the upset cat. And what does he choose when he's asked a second time?
He loses his mopiness for just a moment, becomes slightly more confident and chooses his precious Jasmine. Much to the receptionist's jubilation.
I'm gonna be leaning on the optimistic side and say that this will foreshadow Arajin reconciling with Matakara.
As much as I find Arajin to be a detestable and disappointing human being, I will admit that he is capable of growth. Particularly with bonding with his old childhood friend.
Right after defeating Akutaro, we see Arajin help out a grievously wounded Matakara while mildly complaining about it. We see them being on speaking terms during the Pro Wrestling Episode and Arajin even took the time to teach him how to make gyoza. Not to mention that Arajin was also willing to stick around for Mitsukuni's Welcome Party. The guy is not a good person (ESPECIALLY towards women) but he is capable of becoming better. Maybe at a snail's pace, but it's possible.
And we see those glimpses of growth in Episode 9 with him secretly admitting that there was one person (Matakara) who actually would like his rock for a gift.
So I want to be an optimist and say that Arajin will be able to save Matakara from his despair and they'll reconcile. Maybe accepting that he took Matakra's feelings for granted and how he should have treated his former friend better. How he was acting like a dunderhead and how he doesn't expect to be forgiven after treating him like yesterday's trash. I don't know if the puppy boy will forgive and accept Arajin again so quickly after everything that's happened (it actually would make for an impressive writing choice if Matakara chose not to accept him right away but with their being hope that they'll be friends in the future) but their relationship status will be a hopeful one.
Random Thoughts
When the receptionist brought up how the customer has seen other cats, I had two thoughts in mind. The first is from the Group Date til now, the customer has seen other cats at NNL apart from Pu'er.
The second is that this could be an implied parallel to Ichiya. I don't have enough information since we don't know much about Honki People and the Pasts of the Two Genies, but it's possible that Ichiya has encountered other masters in the thousands of years from when he was human to the present. The other cats could have been masters that Ichiya encountered and tried to possess to take revenge against Senya. But as the receptionist claims, Jasmine kept waiting for the customer. In this case, Jasmine was Senya. Ichiya's oldest friend who still longs to see and reunite with him after so many years of separation and regret.
Another thing I want to bring up is how conclusive this segment feels. It feels like it was wrapping up the plotline between the customer and Jasmine. I find this odd since this happened in Episode 9 and we supposedly have three more episodes before Bucchigiri is officially over. Does that mean we won't get more NNL segments in the final 3? Or will we still get them but in different formats? Like an epilogue of the customer bonding with Jasmine (along with getting an official reveal of who she is) or maybe we get a new customer who's set up to meet another cat potentially foreshadowing a final plot point in the series.
And those would be my thoughts on this segment. No lie, I did not expect this to be this long. But given how conclusive this NNL segment was, I felt there was alot to say about this. And what did you guys think of this segment? As before, feel free to reblog this if you agree with what I wrote, disagree or have another interpretation for this scene. So if you think of something, please say that you know.
"Do you know? Do you know? Do you know what this means?"
Maybe Reeve and 15, 26, 34 for the ask game? ^^' (15 is a free option. You don't have to do it, if yiu don't want to. ^^'')
Yayyy Reeve!!! i do have several opinions about him
Reeve pretty much 24/7:
same bro same
-15- pets or feelings about animals:
HE DID NOT CHOOSE THE HAMSTERVERSE, THE HAMSTERVERSE CHOSE HIM
-26- interactions with their friends
I don't know Reeve to have any canonical friends aside from Veld (Verdot), before Dirge, and I don't know much about their friendship, but I assume Veld was a hero of his or something because Veld is old as shit, and Reeve is only 35 during FF7. He was willing to risk his ass to help save Elfe, because she's his friend's daughter, even though she's with Avalanche. Yes, he uses his Cait Sith bots to go in his place, but even getting involved that much is a massive risk for him considering he's on the Shinra Board of fucking Directors. This suggests how highly he values friendships and demonstrates his personal integrity.
Reeve actually gets involved in a staggering number of situations considering he's a literal executive at the biggest company in the world, likeâŠReeve my guy when do you sleep buddy? (Also how did you make it to the top of Shinra with your conscience intact??)
I really wanted Reeve to have seen Vincent's file or some of his reports back in the day, like as a young Shinra employee, and been like "holy shit this Turk is amazing in a totally not gay way i am just going to take a copy of his photo for personnel management purposes thank you Veld." ALAS, Reeve was five years old when Vincent died. So no such luck unless he was Shinra's youngest employee ever aside from Sephiroth (lol).
HOWEVER. We KNOW direct from the cat's mouth that Reeve knows all about Vincent, meaning he DID study his files at some point, and was clearly moved by how sexy he was tragic his story was. HERE THERE BE HEADCANONS: Vincent was a pretty impressive guy even before the monster powers, and I absolutely HC Reeve as being a total Vincent fangirl, which makes him scruffing and then throwing the Cait Sith bot at Cloud even funnier. He and Vincent become friends through the Cait Sith bot, during the events of FF7 but they have that falling out because of the Marlene thing. However, he keeps helping the group and whatnot, which earns their and Vincent's trust back, and then eventually reveals his identity to the whole group.
Between FF7 and Dirge, he and Vincent stay in contact and even wind up meeting in person. By "meeting in person" I mean Vincent vampire ninjas himself into Reeve's office and scares the ever-loving shit out of him, because he wanted to meet him face to face, and they have a nice talk, before Vincent vampire ninjas away again, leaving Reeve with an even bigger totally platonic and not at all gay crush on the very dangerous and very sexy vampire man.
Reeve eventually leaves Shinra and starts his good-guy club and all that, and he and Vincent reconnect during Dirge, where Reeve is doing this weird matryoshka doll thing with himself inside Cait Sith inside a suit of himself, but whatever i don't kink shame. Apparently Vincent finds that very cool (or hot if you ship them) because they spend the rest of the game helping each other (or secretly making out). Much like almost all of my ships, whether you ship Reeve and Vincent or not, my HC for their relationship is pretty much exactly the same, except in the ship version they fuck.
Anyway I HC that Reeve and Vincent are friends. That was a long thesis, just to work up to this one point.
ps. my ship name for reeve and vincent is reeventine because it's more prosodic (fancy talk for rolls off the tongue), and also, reevince just looks like re-evince, which is a word already
-34- feelings abut themself
This is important to how Reeve feel about himself i promise: CAIT SITH SPEAKS FUCKING KANSAI-BEN. I have no idea why they chose Scottish accent for the English version but they have inadvertently canonized Reeve's hometown dialect being either Kansai-ben, or Scots-gaelic. Which means that little Reeve had one HELL of an accent, and had to meticulously dialect-train himself, to speak in the accepted nonregional vernacular (Kanto or newscast English) for his Shinra job. HEADCANONS BEGIN: This suggests that he's self-aware enough to know what will help him get ahead, and is willing to do what it takes to succeedâŠbut like, in a NORMAL way, not like the rest of the Shinra execs, who are all literal psychopaths. Not exaggerating. Actual psychopaths. He's a classic overachiever and apparently pretty charismatic, despite never having been listened to ever not even one single time during a Shinra board meeting. Luckily he's also a good person deep down and when it really counts, he does the right thing.
In conclusion, Reeve thinks highly enough of himself to have very strong drive and ambition, and to go against the flow and make conscience-based decisions, even when it puts him at risk, but not enough to disconnect the coffee I.V. and get a good night's sleep once in a while.
unpopular but correct opinion: reeve was hot even back when he was cosplaying some kind of pirate clergyman back in the Dirge of Cerberus days
Thanks for the ask! Hamsterverse forever!
Penny's trying her best to reconnect with her father.
Penny is trying, she's really trying, and she wants to reconnect with her family. She's introduced her dad to Arven, who's clearly starving for parental affection, and she's invited Nemona on one of their Galarian raid adventures. She even brought Juliana over once or twice.
All of her friends say about the same thing. Your dad is really cool, Penny. You're lucky to have him. Arven acts like an old man and is already developing dad hobbies, Nemona is the perfect enthusiastic daughter that Penny could never be, Juliana has a good-natured personality and is willing to try anything at least once.
It's just⊠Penny isn't any of those things, not really. She's quietly snarky and kind of a bitch sometimes. She's introverted and likes her veevees more than people. She's fatigued easily and doesn't know how to communicate, so she does shit like pressuring Juliana into a series of heartbreaking battles because she doesn't know how to talk to her friends.
She wonders, sometimes, why people still like her or hang around. She's depressed and self-loathing to the point of toxicity, feeling guilt for so much as touching people.
"Man, you need to get better taste if you consider me a friend," she joked once, to Juliana.
Juliana had just⊠slowed down. And stopped. Which was a crucial mistake that made Penny feel like launching herself off a cliff. (Not that she'd die, just that it would be a way to escape the social situation.)
"Well, maybe I'm allowed to like whoever I want," she said, quietly at first, then her face screwed up. "I want to yell at you sometimes, that hey! You're liked, actually, and it's frustrating that you won't accept that!"
"Sorry." Poison, poison, poison. That's all she feels like she's made of. Unwanted muk.
"I'm sorry too."
"Why?" It came out more sarcastic than Penny had intended. Why would anyone apologize to me? I'm good at enduring it. I can endure so much. Why would you treat me with this softness?
"Because you deserve better," Juliana said.
If she's poison, if she deserves it, then it makes sense. She knows how to cope with enduring the shame and the guilt. She doesn't know how to cope with knowing full well the weight of what was done to her. She can only ever handle it when it's buried under layers of dissociation and metaphor.
She didn't know how to respond to that. It was a compliment, but she doesn't know how to accept those. Even when her dad compliments her, and her dad is the most genuine person she knows, she just feels an overwhelming wave of embarrassment.
"Do I?" Penny had asked.
"Yes. And just because you've been made to feel like that, doesn't change the fact that you deserve nice things."
Penny had sat with that for a while, thinking about her therapist from Galar who never got far with her anyways because she didn't trust anyone. About the time she cut her hair short, thinking that maybe if she just conformed, she'd be left alone.
It didn't help, in the end. The bullies just found some new attribute to pick on. She thinks those sorts of people are like Sharpedo with the scent of blood, who figure out you're trans and autistic long before you realize it yourself. If she'd come out as trans back then, she would have had the protection of a label and a community, and no one wants to be labeled a transphobe but everyone's eager to harass the guy who is just a bit too feminine.
Making herself miserable in advance never stopped anyone else from tormenting her. Pre-emptive punishment for her own perceived failure was never a viable strategy, and now she's left at a safe school with people who want to be her friends, flinching at shadows. And it's not fair to anyone.
She knows that she's damaged, she's not worthy of calling herself traumatized but she does feel fundamentally altered. Stunted. She doesn't know how to interact with genuine kindness.
But she wants to learn, damnit. She wants to believe that maybe the world doesn't hate her. So she asks her dad for help, for the first time in years.
He's overbearing as usual, broad movements and loud voice. She positions herself against the wall and wears her headphones, fidgeting with the dial so it cancels just enough noise but not too much.
"I'm really proud of you, Penny," he says, ruffling her hair. "Look at you! Getting your own furniture, that's a sign that you're becoming an adult. I can't believe my little girl's growing up so fast!"
"It's⊠not that," she mumbles. "Just. Arven's helping me clean. I wanted to get some of the dust out and sort some piles."
"Arven, huh?" Her dad's working on building the frame of the bookcase, while she's dusting off her books and measuring and figuring out how to sort them. "He's a good kid. Real hard worker, too!"
Penny isn't sure how to explain that it's a trauma response. So she doesn't explain. Except the longer she thinks about it, the more pissed off and frustrated she gets, that Arven has it so bad at home, that he's mature and responsible and won't ever have the chance to be a kid again while she can afford to be a kid for much longer because of her dad's hard work.
"Hey, what's that face for? Turn that frown upside down," Peony jokes, poking at her cheek.
She doesn't smile. "Arven doesn't have a good home life. That's why I invite him over so much." She's fucked things up, she's ruined the mood. This was supposed to be about father daughter bonding and she's dropped this. She's never going to talk about her feelings ever again. Her dad puts down the allen wrench, watching her. She just wants to hide.
"That's good, then. That you're giving him that chance. Ah, I know I'm not the brightest at picking up on these things," he admits, and frankly the autism is probably hereditary but he's not ready for that conversation yet, "but I'll do the best I can, okay? For you, and for your friends. All you have to do is ask."
And asking for help is such a mortifying fucking ordeal that she'd rather swallow a ghost pepper, frankly, but it's supposed to get easier in time. Allegedly. It's such a simple thing, the first thing babies learn, but it's been beaten out of her. She's the sort of girl who can endure anything, who can endure the impossible. But asking for help makes her want to sob.
"I'll try," she says, and this time it's not a platitude but a genuine hope.
