Love Sea episode 1 Commentary
So yesterday the first episode of Love Sea was released. After watching it, I decided to put down my thoughts and impressions. Hopefully I can keep it up until the end of the drama.
First, a few things:
I have bought and read the Love Sea novel. I will try my best not to spoil anything, but this knowledge informs my perception and my commentary. I have also read Love Sand, which chronologically happens before Love Sea, and I will spoil minor plot points if I think they can help understand elements in the drama.
There will be no Mame hate in this post, or in any other posts.
With that out of the way, let’s start:
The drama opens by separately introducing the main characters. Masahamut is diving, checking and noting damages, while Tongrak is on his way to the island, wearing the most impractical travel outfit he could have possibly worn. We learn that his stay on the island was booked by Connor Warrington, a close friend of his.
The character introduction is pretty well done. Masahamut is set up as a character who deeply cares about the well-being of the island he lives on. He is shown interacting with his friend Palm (they are not biologically related, they are senior/junior) and we get an impression of someone who communicates well with others and has a joking, playful side to him. Meanwhile, Tongrak is shown alone, even as he talks with Connor, we do not hear his replies, so we get the sense of someone cut off from other people. His outfit is also very fancy, showing his financial comfort, but also wildly impractical, showing that he is not very down to earth.
To explain who the characters are in the Mame universe, Masahamut is the best friend of Khom, who is Type’s childhood friend (from Tharntype). Khom is dating Connor, who is close friend with Tongrak. Tongrak is also a novelist, and his novels have been adapted by the movie director Aphros, who is Prapai’s uncle and the director who inspired Sky after his breakdown (not going to lie, with all those connections, I am low-key surprised that the closest we ever got to incest was Tum and Tar’s relationship).
At the docks, Tongrak is not exactly impressed with the place he will be staying at. We have it confirmed that Connor booked his stay because Tongrak’s next novel will be about the ocean (Connor my beloved I love you so much you asshole). Masahamut meets Tongrak at the docks and decide to piss him off by speaking in a Southern accent and not driving an appropriate vehicle to transport his suitcases. After Tongrak blows a fuse, Masahamut cuts him off and borrows a cargo tricycle.
This develops the characters a bit further. Tongrak shows a rather childish side and a lack of control over his emotions, while Masahamut’s confidence and capacity to adapt is set up. We also see more of his playful, “troll” side. I also like how his popularity on the island is subtly shown by having him borrow a bike from someone with no issue whatsoever. People trust him!
Tongrak immediately calls Connor to complain and demands to go home, further showing his childish, needy side. We get to hear Connor, who is mostly amused. Meanwhile, Masahamut unloads Tongrak’s suitcases with an amused expression and grabs the phone to chat up with Connor.
For more explanation about Connor and Masahamut’s relationship, they met when Connor stayed at the island for the holiday. He met Khom, who was working as Masahamut’s assistant and as Connor’s guide, and Masahamut helped Connor in his pursuit of Khom (in exchange for monetary compensation. Truly a win/win situation for everyone involved).
I love how entertained Masahamut is with Tongrak’s prissiness. He doesn’t care or take it personally, just rolls with it and takes advantage of it to troll him.
Masahamut escorts Tongrak to his room, who immediately pushes him out and ignore his offer to be at his disposal if he needs anything.
Sidenote, but I love Tongrak raging against the suitcase and later at the blankets. It is so cute, childish and relatable at the same time. I have definitely “scolded” a zipper because it wouldn’t open or the printer because it had issues.
We cut to Mook, Tongrak’s assistant/secretary, who is looking very busy and overworked. She is so far the most relatable character in the drama for me, down with the messy hair. She is called by Vi, Tongrak’s best friend, who promises to keep her busy. I love her, she is such a troll! Also a cameo appearance by Ja, which is definitely great to see! Hope he’s been well!
We cut back to Tongrak as he goes to a bar, wearing a really awesome sheer shirt and enjoying the attention he gets. Palm is his waiter, and immediately start hyping up Masahamut. We get confirmation that Masahamut is really popular both with the residents and with the tourists. We also learn that he is bi, which is great! We always love to see bi representation.
Tongrak seems pissed both at the fact that Masahamut is popular and by the fact that people would assume he is attracted to him, which he is definitely not! One hundred percent not! Not a trace of attraction here! Who cares if Masahamut is handsome anyway? Not him that’s who! And his sulking has nothing to do with it.
Next morning, we get to see how much Masahamut is involved in his community. While it may seem a bit heavy-handed, I do like that this aspect of Masahamut is so strongly enforced. It gives him a lot more depth and shows his maturity.
This mature impression is immediately countered when we see that he has a double of Tongrak’s keys and didn’t tell him. He immediately takes on the caretaker role and as he cleans up the room, we learn that Connor paid Masahamut to serve as Tongrak’s caretaker/nanny/guide/sitter during his time on the island. Is it like some kind of gift reciprocity? Masahamut helped Connor date his best friend so Connor helps Masahamut get with his own friend? I also really like the comparison of Tongrak to a cat. It suits him so well. We also have it mentioned again that Tongrak is very lonely (initially, Connor filled that loneliness void, but once he started dating Khom, he could no longer give as much attention to Rak as he used to, hence why he is trying to find a solution.)
Connor wakes Tongrak up. Not going to lie I would punch him! Do not bother me before I had my tea and breakfast! As he tries to punch him Tongrak falls on the ground, giving Masahamut a perfect view of his body.
The “seduction” scene is really well-done. You can see the switch as Tongrak finds himself in a more familiar territory and tries to seduce Masahamut by removing his robe/shirt. He really seems to enjoy having power over Masahamut, especially since the latter has annoyed him so much. However while Masahamut is admirative, he does not lose his head and starts commenting on Tongrak’s lack of body hair. You can really see the switch back as Tongrak loses his confidence. Peat acted really well in that scene!
I love how offended Tongrak is by Masahamut’s lack of sexual interest. Poor kitty got his pride hurt! Speaking of which I also love how Masahamut speaks of Tongrak like a kitty he is taking care of.
Tongrak tries to provoke Masahamut by constantly asking for a different breakfast and being picky, to no success. I always enjoy seeing Tongrak’s bratty side, especially when his brattiness doesn’t work.
Masahamut is such a troll! I love him already!
Meanwhile, Tongrak has found out a way to get Masahamut to do what he wants (to some extent). He pays him to get him to speak in a Central dialect. It really sets well the economic difference between them. Tongrak has money to burn and Masahamut will do anything for money. I love how much he doesn’t care about being bought and getting money from his clients. Masahamut is there singing “Material Girl” and doesn’t care about what anyone thinks!
I love it any time Tongrak’s more vain side is shown. The way he jumps when Masahamut mentions wrinkles. Also he is supposed to be in his late twenties/early thirties.
Masahamut offers his sexual services and can obviously see that Tongrak is more interested than he lets on. “Even if you were the last man on Earth, I still wouldn’t want you”. Oh hey! I heard a cool girl named Elizabeth Bennet say the exact same thing. I wonder what happened to her….
We cut back to Mook rehearsing her speech to Vi to not have to work as her assistant. By the way I love her shirt! As she dares Vi to call her, she answers her prayers and does so! We get to see that Mook has an itemized list of how to deal with Vi! That is some thoroughness! Anyway Vi claims a light bulb in her room is busted and that Mook needs to come and change it. I see Vi subscribes to the “pulling her hair” strategy in courtship. Meanwhile Mook is getting more and more erratic and her faces are amazing! She looks offended, outraged and confused at the same time. Also I love how messy her hair is.
“I’m a frail lead actress who can’t do anything on her own” as she sits on the ladder she used to bust her own light bub to get her crush to come to her place! I love Vi she’s such a troll! Also does she have Mook’s picture? I can’t really see well.
In his room, Tongrak is having trouble writing the sex scene and we learn he needs to have sex or to hug someone to properly write sex scenes. It really is interesting that Tongrak needs an intense physical situation to describe a romantic sex scene, because it suggests that he cannot conceptualize the intensity of the emotions involved unless he experiences a “similar”, physical sensation. It really goes with him being lonely but also suggests he never truly offered his heart to anyone.
The next day, Tongrak is working on his novel, looking extremely cute with his round glasses, while Masahamut is waiting. He soon gets bored and starts reading what Tongrak is writing. I wonder if the sex scene he reads out is a random scene that was written especially for this or if it was taken from another of Mame’s novels. I cannot place it.
Anyway Masahamut is bored of it and takes Tongrak on a boat to show him around. I love how Masahamut gently scolds Tongrak and tells him to sit properly so that he doesn’t fall, causing Tongrak to sulk. It sets up their future dynamic. Also Masahamut don’t scold the kitty! He’s a city kitty and has never been on the sea before.
Tongrak is called by Mook and doesn’t hear her well. Yeah in the middle of the sea it is a lost cause. Masahamut decides to take a dive while Tongrak is on the phone, causing him to panic. I actually agree with Tongrak here! For safety reasons Masahamut should have warned him.
Tongrak freaks out and starts crying. Masahamut tries to reassure him by poiting out that he’s fine but is unsuccessful. I love how he takes the freak out seriously and only reaches to touch him after Tongrak has been unresponsive. Tongrak scolds him and Masahamut reaches out to hug him and apologize. I love the light little kiss on the forehead and how Tongrak slowly accepts Masahamut’s hug.
Afterwards, Tongrak is embarrassed about his crying episode (don’t worry baby it happens to the best of us) and plays the shy Victorian maiden when Masahamut moves to remove his shirt as if he didn’t wear a sheer shirt in public two days before. Masahamut offers to show him the good stuff, and just like Tongrak I was not thinking of clams when he said that! Again, I love how confident Masahamut is! He is aware of his charm and sees well the effect he has on Tongrak. The episode ends with them still on the roof of the boat.
Overall I really enjoyed this episode. It was a good set up for the characters and I love the atmosphere they created. I look forward to seeing more of it.

10 BL Characters I Want Carnally
AKA I'm just a person with two keen eyes and dubious morals when it comes to enjoying media so don't take it seriously, I'm here for a good time.
Thank you @sndrys for tagging me! This was an eye opening experience putting this together. As it turns out I might have a type (ew).
1) Guy from Bake Me Please (2023)
The sole reason for me creating this list! Look, I dropped Bake Me Please almost immediately because it just wasn't for me BUT I've been lowkey watching through my dash. And let me tell you, my fingers gain consciousness and hit reblog everytime this baby's face pops up because...well...LOOK AT HIM. He is beautiful and he should get the guy (hehe get it) in the end idc.
2) Yok from Not Me (2021)
Yok is such a beloved character and for good reason! He is sexy, he is gay, he sets buildings on fire and steals cops' wallets on accident because HOW WAS HE SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT GUY HE WAS STALKING WAS A COP??? I love you Yok, never change.
3) Palm from Never Let Me Go/ OurSkyy2 (2022-23)
The anger I felt for all the injustice and mistreatment our beautiful Palm had to face in this show took literal years off my life. It's rare for me to get this passionately protective over a character and yet here we are, in the Palm Protection Squad headquarters. Even Nueng is on the watchlist!
4) Tonhon from Tonhon Chonlatee (2020)
Not to out myself as an enjoyer of silly goofy times , but I did have fun watching Fish Upon The Sky and Secret Crush On You, so OFCOURSE I thought I would like this one too but GOD was it rough. Did I still finish it? Yes. Did I fawn over PoddKhao pairing and have been quietly praying for some kind of reunion ever since? Also yes. Was I foaming at the mouth barking everytime Tonhon AKA Podd was on my screen? I'm not gonna comment without lawyer present.
5) Tew from My Dear Gangster Oppa (2023)
Speaking of Tonhon Chonlatee...AH! Ai Long Nhai (TC's spiritual prequel of sorts) was sure...something. And by something I mean I saw Meen and decided I will never speak ill of men ever again, feminism quite literally left my body. And then a year later My Dear Gangster Oppa came out and guess what??! MEEN IS THE GANGSTER OPPA! Dreams really do come true, kids.
6) Wen from Moonlight Chicken (2023)
(or Tian from ATOATS or Mueang Nan fron FUTS). Mix...I will eat you. Always so dewy and healthy and sparkly-eyed. But Wen from Moonlight Chicken is something out of the realm of my imagination. The sex appeal? The maturity?? The gentleness??!! Somebody sedate me before I say something I will not be able to justify in court.
7) Vee from Love Mechanics (2022)
He is a pretty bisexual who makes the most abhorrent stupid decisions known to men and then weeps and suffers for them WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED? Once again, is the show flawless or even remotely coherent? Absolutely not. That being said Vee brought me so much joy by being stupid I'm forever grateful.
(also YinWar are so back GO WATCH JACK AND JOKER TRAILER)
8) Prapai from Love In The Air (2022)
To a certain extent I've enjoyed every MAME show I've watched. To do that you need to possess the rare ability called "I abandoned every shred of moral integrity to gawk at hot men". And Prapai? MAN is this bitch hot. Tall dark handsome? Check! Bisexual on a bike? Check! Stubborn and annoying? CHECK!
9) Xiang Hao Ting from HIStory3: Make Our Days Count (2019)
*incoherent wailing and sobbing* IM NOT EXPLAINING SHIT ABOUT HIM LEAVE ME ALONE
10) AlanJeff from Pit Babe (2023)
My newest obsession! I refuse to separate our local senior citizen and his favorite prophetic mechanic. Both of them are hot as shit in their own way. Alan is a sexy dilf with so much weight and responsibility on his shoulders it's a miracle he retained his optimism and youthful awkwardness. And Jeff is a prickly baby-cow-baby-deer eyed baby that is so touch starved it's actually a little funny. SO I GUESS ALANJEFF SANDWICH IT IS.
(don't be shy tag yourselves besties <3)

10 Favorite Moments of Snark in BL
This one came is as an ask from the lovely @solitaryandwandering and there are tons of options so I just picked some of mine and labeled them top 10. I reserve the right to change my mind if a remember better.
Quite a few of these came from truly terrible BLs, I wonder if that has to do with me remembering them. Like they stood out as moments of delightful charm in a sea of sewage?
1. Just talk!
Ae getting annoyed with TinCan in A Chance At Love.
Of course it’s MAME first, but the idea of her using one of her most popular characters (whom she fucked over) to criticize miscommunication as a narrative driver (which is her fucking calling card) was just the ironic poop version of a chef’s kiss. (Sorry, I don’t know how else to put it.)
2. Saucing out of jealousy
Let’s just get MAME out of the way, shall we? Type (in TharnType) is an absolute banger at the pithy quip in a very agro way and I love a lot of his lines. I mean calling your lover “crybaby” when you finally tell him you love him? Epic snark. Also the “you can finally stop complaining about us” to Techno is so good.
But my personal favorite, hands sown, is the throwing a sauce bottle. Talk about product placement. (Although said senior’s snarky, “It’s fun to see a big baby agitated” about Type, was also pretty darn great.)
3. I’m so gay
In Rainbow Prince, the fact that Art’s focused pursuit is patently obvious and his subordinates are still careful about it was just really funny to me. It reminded me of my youth when friends got surprised when I came out. Don’t get me wrong, my coming out was perfectly serviceable at the time, but also the ones who were surprised I was like...
4. Ate the phonebook
Bright in SOTUS (played by Off) is a wonderfully snarky character. I love the way he is self deprecating about being a bad student, even in front of his juniors, and the time he leads them in prayer? So funny.
But my favorite is his one shot “Did he eat the national register” when Kong is showing off his memory for names in one of the hazing sequences.
Shout out to the one I do have a screen cap of, this from SOTUS S:
Like serious moment of scripted brilliance.
Ah me, back in the days when most Thai BLs had really good scripts....
5. Goodnight, you fucker
Kao’s fandi-way in the Kiss series.
This is a linguistic one. It’s just I already had grocked the notion of fandi na as being a cute thing couples use with each other (kind of like “sweet dreams, please?”) to see Kao make this super rude when Pete is begging him for it, is so much THEM, their dynamic, it’s particularly snarky and on character.
Also, you know me, i had to pick a linguistic one.
6. Rome getting his own back
Rome in Puppy Honey is such a sweet soft character but also so much owning his own identity, and so steady about it. It was just really fun to see him get one up on Pick.
Even if they both know it’s actually a compliment.
Also should out to Porsche’s moment of quip, “I enjoy this scene a little too much” when he catches his bestie rolling around in paint with cute boy.
7. Invitation?
Tian actually has quite a few moments of snark in Tale of a Thousand Stars. (”You know how to sweet talk now?’). But honestly this is a phrase I use constantly IRL so I was just happy to see it show up in a Thai BL.
8. Just alpha bitch bitching it up
Look is this level of confrontation actually considered snark? I don’t know but Miriam’s defense of Chon in Tonhon Chonlatee is epic. Top level. It’s a real pleasure to watch a female bestie take out an evil femme fatale machine-gun style.
Yes there are others, the bffs (best female friends) in Together With Me and Dark Blue Kiss spring to mind.
9. Calling out the industry moments
There are quite a few of these, and a BL that is already bad and full of tropes has to be careful because they are reviewing themselves badly. And yet they do it anyway. This example comes from one of this year’s worst, My Secret Love:
Our Days has
“Can I love you, my tsundere”
“This year so many Y series came out”
“I think the script writers are at fault”
“Your acting skills suck”
all of which come off as more rich and inappropriate than snark in such a terrible show.
It’s not always bad show tho.
Cherry Blossoms After Winter scene card calling out the “only one bed” trope.
And in on of the Taiwanese BLs there is a moment where a side character tells on of the leads that “tsundere is so out of fashion” but I can’t remember which show.
10. Seme subscription service
Best of the best (IMHO) comes from Korea, who generally specializes in earnest, not snark. But...
Semantic Error is one of my favorite BL’s because the two leads are nearly entirely comprised of snark. SangWoo’s “if my heart wasn’t beating I’d be dead” was perfection, since it also takes a common trope to account.
And when JaeYoung is grouchy and says "No lettuce, eat perilla leaves instead” I bark laughed. Also the “oops my hand slipped” after he shot that dart at the drunk asshole in the pub. Both of these also involve physical comedy moments, so they aren’t strictly just snark they're visual gags but still? *kiss kiss kiss*
But I had to pick seme subscription service as my favorite moment of snark from this series. Because it is both of them, snipping back and forth.
And that’s it. That’s my top 10.
Other good ones?
KinnPorsche Pete has a few the time at the table with the minor family and the time in chains when he’s reading a book.
Most of Team’s responses to Win in Until We Meet Again. from “You’re so picky” to “Don’t even think about it.”
Half of what Pond says in Love By Chance.
All of what Pure says in My Gear and Your Gown.
I don’t love Theory of Love but Third’s internal dialogue (when he’s not whining and pining) and his occasionally take downs are pretty darn great.

AI3 predictions + headcanons
Aitsf and AINI spoilers ofc
Date will come back looking like Falco wearing a Vochlocho with the Greg Chun voice in it
It is revealed that Horadori Institute’s sole sperm donor was So Sejima
I scared myself with this one, this sounds like something that would actually 100% happen
Meaning Iris and Mizuki would be bio half-sisters
So gets murdered finally
And the detectives are like uh oh, we have no leads, the killer could’ve literally been anyone ever
Date and Hitomi actually spend time together and reconnect fr and it’s good
Iris’s next somnium is Among Us themed
She witnesses something important, but her somnium hides it under a puzzle where we have to do tasks and correctly identify the impostor that symbolizes what actually happened. The AI ball is crewmate-shaped like Shovelforge Aiba
We’ll be able to play as Marco/Maruko
If the effects of somnium make Aiba more silly instead of logical and Tama more nervous instead of confident, maybe they make Marco loud and expressive while they’re usually shy and quiet in eye form
Aiba returns to Date and Mizuki gets a new partner
We learn significantly more Adorabbit lore (is it a cartoon or something, or is it like a fucked up parody of Sanrio characters?)
There is a character named Adorat that Bibi likes
They put Shoma on some sort of hormone therapy
He starts working for Pewter
Maybe gets a scholarship/grant from ABIS so he can go to uni for robotics. This way he can get the education without debt and then support Mame when she gets out so she can get back on track and have the ability to find something better than Sunfish Pocket.
Go go Boss blackmailing Riichi to help the Enda-Dois as a parallel to her blackmailing So to save Iris
Unlike Pewter, Amame actually stays in prison for a while, but not a super long time
We meet Mrs. Doi as an NPC and she’s comically normal
We will psync with Moma (hopefully they’ll dial down on his A-Set obsession)
Omg imagine psyncing with Ritsuko the secretary
Naix starts revering Tokiko like a deity
The game starts with Tokiko speaking directly to you, the player, as a sort of narrator figure
The characters call on Lien to pick locks again but his role is very minor like that of Moma in AINI
Bigger Hitomi role please
We get to go to Boss and Bibi’s home as was apparently planned for this game at some point
Screw it, throw in Ryuki’s place too. He probably lives in a fuckin mansion
Mizuki inherited two companies from Ren yet she lives in Date’s studio apartment. Sure, she secretly loves him and wouldn’t actually want to move out, but what does she do with the money she must be making? Donate a ton of it? Saving and investing?
Minor subplot where Date and Tama end up working together for some horrible, terrifying reason
Aiba’s interest in bugs and fish becomes relevant to the case
Another iteration of that hilarious highway scene where all the psyncers are driving to the same destination in their own ridiculous vehicles instead of everyone just going in the limo. Or would it be funnier if they were all in one car? How about both in one game.
In AI1 they said there were six psyncers at ABIS. We’ve met Date, Ryuki, and Bibi, plus Mizuki, so there must be at least three other psyncers and AI balls we haven’t met yet.
The game title will obviously be full of puns so what if AI3 (AI san) is about the first psyncer and AI ball? I’m not thinking a prequel, but it could explain the origins of ABIS and be related to the first case solved using psyncing.
It’d be neat if the main character is a more senior detective, like maybe a Jane Marple type figure. It would be cool to see an old protagonist since the end of VLR
Idk what Marco/Maruko’s gender settings are supposed to be since Marco is a masculine name and Maruko is feminine, but I hope we get a male AI-ball in general
What tacky vehicles would the new character(s) ride? A convertible? Badass futuristic motorcycle?
The English title will have the number 3 represent the letter E and “AI” somewhere in it. Perhaps they will use <3 to reference ai as in love
Polyamorous relationship between three people to represent “ai 3”
Man imagine AI4… knowing that one of the ways to say 4 sounds like “death” and is considered super unlucky in Japanese, they’d go crazy stuffing the title with double meanings
Canon wlw representation please,,, there aren’t enough gay women in the Uchiverse
Mentally undoing the Michael Bubleification of Ryuki’s solo in The Song, pure homophobia
(Feel free to add on)

I’ve been seeing you reblogging Love is in the Air and I’ve never heard of it but I’m curious. Is it good? What’s it about?
Knuckle down, you just gave me a free pass to rave over one of my latest obsessions - hope you are ready!
The show is based on two novels by Thai author MAME; "Love Storm" and "Love Sky". It is about the separate (but connected) love stories of two friends, and the ups and downs they both faces along the way.
The first half of the show starts with the character Rain, whose car breaks down during a thunderstorm. A handsome stranger stops, and helps him out.
Rain later discovers that the man is the legendary Payu (= 'Storm') that everyone at his architectural faculty talks about, but who Rain himself never met as Payu graduated before Rain started. When Rains car breaks down again, Payu is there to help once more, this time taking the car to the garage his family owns and operates. Payu is under the impression Rain is flirting with him, looking to hook up - but Rain refuses him. Payu wont accept money for the reparations to Rains car, rather opting for a payment in the form of Rain being/talking respectful to him as a senior. Payu also clearly loves to tease and rile Rain up - and as Rain gets fed up with him and this behaviour (as he quickly turned from lovestruck-by-the-stranger-who-helped-him to annoyed-by-the-cocky-senior-who-his-classmates-worships-as-a-hero), he vows to make Payu fall in love with him.
Payu is definitely amused by this (and very much not opposed to his challange...), and gives him a month to accomplish his task. What follows is Rains mission to juggle schoolwork and making Payu fall for him, all while falling for Payu himself.
The second part of the series focuses on Rains friend and classmate, Sky, who during Rains arch helps Rain sneak into an illegal streetrace that they hear Payu is attending/helping out with. Sky is able to get this information from his ex, who also moves in these circles. During the race, Sky meets Prapai (= 'Wind') - a racer and also a friend of Payus - who helps him escape the guards that discovered him. In exchange for helping Sky out, Prapai hints heavily that he wants to sleep with Sky. Sky, clearly upset by this still just replies "just take what you want", and they end going back to Prapais place (and I will die on the hill that notorious sleeps-around-Prapai sees this as playful flirting, although we we all wished for better communication and clearer consent..)
Afterwards Prapai tries to ask for Skys name and number, but Sky refuses. As Prapai remembers Sky coming to the race with Rain, he eventually convinces Rain to give him Sky's number - and Prapai starts his journey on pursuing Sky. Sky, who clearly suffers from a lot of trauma, keeps rejecting Prapai - sure that Prapai only wants him for sex. Prapai - never giving up - is very determined to prove him wrong.
I could write for days about this show, but I'm going to try to hold back haha - and I think I managed to avoid spoilers? (Like, Payus identity is literally revealed in ep 1, Sky's trauma is also revealed early on, but the viewers learns more about it as the show progresses).
This show has literally become one of my all-time favourite BLs, I love the story and the characters to bits. I really didn't think that would happen when I started the show - I don't know how well versed you are with BLs, or Thai BL-shows but the author MAMEs works are.. well, people love to hate them and there are reasons for that. Not only does her works often include themes of (past/) trauma (which in itself is not a problem, but rather how its portrayed/dealt with), pretty stereotypical 'top-bottom'-roles and the stories are usually pretty... mid.. but consent in general is also most often portrayed a bit.. iffy, although that is a problem with the majority of all BLs despite author and country of origin.
Love in the air - or rather especially the novels which it is based on - is not an exception to scenes that is playing way too loose with consent, although I am really (pleasantly) surprised how this adaption handles it overall. It's one of the few shows we actually see the characters asking for consent and respecting boundaries, and although the bar is on the ground, the times they do adress it, its done pretty good. In adapting the novels to a show, they made some really good changes to the story and characters, and the actors are phenomenal! The chemistry between them, especially Peat and Fort who plays Sky and Prapai are out of this world! And the story between Sky and Prapai are really the strongest bit in the show - Rain and Payus love story is more lighthearted, more humours and sweet (with some darker bits in the mix) and it's wondeful - but Sky and Prapais story are much more complex, more serious and it has some real gut-punching moments in a way I never expected after watching the first arch.
There is also some of the best adult scenes I've watched in BLs.. Like, whats up with Thai BL and NC-scenes (NC=No children 17 and under) lately???
Like, look at that shit??
Who signed off on this??
Spice aside, there is also so much more to this show, but yeah - trying to not spoil too much and to hold back (this is long enough as it is...)
If you are interested in watching it, I would really urge you to give it a chance - and to keep in mind that (at least in my opinion), the show just gets better by every episode.

hey hi hello ma’am Luta
so it’s been a while since i sent an ask
how are You doing ma’am? i hope everything is going well.
thank You for writing all of your reviews. they mean so much to me, You have no idea.
my question is about Love In The Air. You’ve said You’ve read the books. how do you rate them as D/s representation? is it worth reading or not? is the D/s aspect developed or rather skimmed over? is the series accurate so far? are there scene You would like to see adapted that You don’t think will be? and will You be including some kind of note of scenes that happened differently in books than in the show?
and not really a question but more of a thing i wanted to gush over. so i’m lowkey in love with P’payu any time he touches rains head or neck. it just does things to me.
and i’m also lowkey in love with rains speech paterns (if i can call it that way). the way everyone knows he has a bit of a foul mouth and swears regularly. as well as speaking kind of down to people by in polite form (if that makes sense? at least that how i interpret his speech. i don’t know thai so don’t take my word for it). so comes of as slightly crass (would be good word i guess) but still polite boy to his seniors. but with P’payu he speaks politely and kind of softly. at least he tries, even when it hurts him to do so. since he knows that’s what P’payu likes. and when he forgets himself and is corrected he immediately apologizes. which shows he learned his lesson well.
i can’t wait for the Ep 3 review. i’m super interested in Your opinion on the last part of ep3. which might’ve been my fav part of the whole ep. i love when characters get vulnerable.
sorry that it got so long.
please have a great day/night wherever You are ma’am 🥰
Hey minnie!!!
I really appreciate that. Thank you very much! 💜💜💜
I have read the book and Mame is part of the community. Now keep in mind that BDSM does have some cultural differences. As I myself learned by talking to different kinksters around the world. I have found the author to be relatively accurate though the series has in my opinion perfected it. Mame is messy and doesn't always know how to relay the kink correctly, which I get but hello not just kinksters read your shit. I'm laying this all at Mame's feet when in all fairness it could be an error in translation as well.
The series has been very accurate as far as scenes. Even more accurate at portraying a D/s lifestyle than the book. Thank you Mame for giving us the bones and thank you script writers for fleshing it out. Is the best way I can put it. Mame is a vibe and I enjoy them but I'm also a kinkster with a background in book reviews so I've learned to read between the lines.
I have no plans to add book related commentary to my reviews. As I don't want to give spoilers and they are making changes so stuff might not be relevant. That's not to say I won't ever make a book comment but only when I think it's necessary.
The head and neck touches are everything to me. Le Sigh. Really truly I'm there with you.
Rain is rude as fuck so it makes him going into respectful tone all the better. Seriously. I Love It!
I got the episode 3 review out yesterday! Sorry it took so long but I was actually kind of bummed about the whole TikTok thing so it was hard to get hyped like I needed. I got there though and I hope you enjoy! 💜💜💜

Love in the Air messy Review 1-4
Hellooooooo guess who is back for a messy review.... It has been some time. I think it has been a year since I wrote my last messy review BUT I have a new obsession and I need to scream about it. So I am back but seeing as I have seen 5 episodes so far, It will be a messy review of 4 episodes. I will do one later this week for episode 5
Here we Go "Love in the Air" EP 1-4.
Now before we dive in, I think MAME did right by splitting up de couples because this time we don't have to focus on other couples, which suits me just fine!!!
youtube
So we start the first episode with Rain being stuck in de well no pun intended rain.... pouring rain for that matter and of course his car broke down, at this point, I didn't realize yet how cute he is but anyway.. Here enters Payu, who drives up on his cool bike and well his hotness🔥 (It surprised me that the steam wasn't coming off of him🫠) And magically he is a mechanic and helps out Rain, Rain of course thinks he is handsome but after fixing his car Payu disappears and we skip to Rain at college, where we also meet Sky, his best friend, who has the most amazing facial expressions! Rain at this point has a crush on Ple and tries to win her over but anyway. He asks about the senior they were discussing and after hearing he is a god, he asks for his name with is Payu...
Now after pursuing Ple, which fails big time, he goes to this party that his seniors are giving, and here enters Payu, wet and with a man bun and just hot.. Rain is happy to see him and feels disappointed when he thinks Payu doesn't recognize him and instead of thanking him he leaves without talking to him but then of course you are guessing it right his car breaks down AGAIN (maybe just buy a new car but hey..) After hearing him honk, Payu comes to check...(what a coinicindence..) long story short, he begs Payu to help him, and at this point it's safe to say Rain's love language is touch.. because he keeps touching Payu, what of course makes Payu think he wants him(but seriously who wouldn't want him...)
Payu is nice and takes him back to his house(garage) and after Rain changed his clothes, Payu offers him to help dry his hair and I'm sorry but Rain was way into that and I get why Payu thought he wanted him... Anyway Payu makes his move by kissing him in THE FREAKING NECK!!(remember w are only in episode 1!!!!!!!) Rain fights it at first but he is STRUGGLING!! (can't blame him😇) and even he knows where this went wrong because yes boy you were definitely flirting(unintentionally but still🤭) after "fighting" Payu off, Payu tells him to sleep on the couch but the sneaky bastard doesn't give him a blanket and has the aircon at 16 degrees(I'm european I don't do Fahrenheit) after trying he sneaks into Payu's bed, which is quite funny as he is poking him to check. The next morning he wakes up and even checks to see if he is still wearing his pants...this boy but then of course Payu teases him and tells him
"just because you are wearing your clothes doesn't mean nothing happened"
which shocked Rain as he fell out of the bed, which must've hurt🤭 Now as he tries to escape, Payu comes close AGAIN (LIKE let us breathe sir!!!!!) and kisses him on the cheek(I can safely say I screamed and clapped at this) LIKE YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love how the next thing we see is Rain curing at the weather as it is storming(Payu means storm) and Sky is there being all confused, wondering if his bestie lost his damn mind(I would say yes but you know🤭)
Episode 2 starts off with Rain being at the garage to get his car. It's funny because P "oaf calls him Payu's boy, which Rain does not like🤭 Me on the other hand loves it!!
P Aon tells him about everything they did to the car and the instant panic on his face, made me giggle because SAME!!! also that "Shiny" hahahaha I couldn't help but laugh. The way he asked about the price and finding out it was free because he is Payu's boy (nothing comes for free my dear Rain but...) the way he quickly left and the way P Aon told Payu he was right and that damn smirk on his face, Like boy you are up to no good and I am living for it!!!😏
Rain is enjoying his newly fixed car when Payu calls and tells him that he has to pay by behaving and then hanging up while Rain is still in the midst of yelling at him, makes my day! The next day at college is the funniest thing the way he tries to hide because he got a message telling him Payu never lets anyone off and the way Sky is enjoying this so much and scares the living daylight out of Rain🤣 I love Sky!!
The way his voice goes an octave higher after denying him hiding for someone and the way Sky goes along with it, I love that(I need friends like that as well)🤣 Of course Rain walks right into Payu the next scene, and the way he shuts him up (Also wondering something, what exactly did Rain let him touch👀)
Side note: The way Rain moved his arm to get away from Payu is just too damn cute, such a cutie!!)😍😍😍😍😍😍
Rain talks him to the bathroom and Payu corners him and the intensity is way too much to handle, calm down boys but also don't. Payu tells him again he doesn't like foul mouthed boys, which triggers the rebelliousness in Rain and he tells him he is not afraid (If Payu came this close to me, I would just kiss him)
Two guys enter, which makes Rain push Payu into the toilet stall, which is the stupidest thing he could've done and not only for himself (BUT WHAT ABOUT MY FREAKING MENTAL HEALTH!!!🫠☠️) DAMN IT. So now Payu has him exactly where he wants and this heats things up drastically like I wasn't even breathing at this point plus my face was almost attached to the damn screen, my mouth was on the damn ground because Payu was seducing Rain BIG TIME(AGAIN WHAT ABOUT MY MENTAL HEALTH!!☠️) you know he wasn't even kissing Rain but he was just moving so close that it's hot, I seriously would melt right there and Rain my man did as well, he was turned on big, the way he let Payu do whatever he wanted, was something else and it even surprised Payu.
he took advantage by making Rain tell him exactly what he wanted and the way Rain just did exactly what he asked, this boy was a goner and after literally falling out of that stall, where Payu tells him he is a debt collector and that he just wants Rain to speak politely he leaves but Rain is not Rain if he didn't curse at him while he was leaving!! Sky enters and tells him to get up BUT RAIN CAN'T GET UP BECAUSE HE IS ALREADY UP!!!!!! I laughed so hard, istg...🤣🤣🤣🤣
Of course, Rain wants revenge and tries to force his senior to tell him where the street race will take place (i just like to know how he knew about that though...) anyway his senior gets pissed and walks off, luckily he has Sky who dated an asshole who was into illegal street races and he helps him out, which of course doesn't end well because Rain gets caught and captured by no other than Payu and then we have the most surprising and shocking scene ever. HE GETS SPANKED BUT IN THE ACTUAL PUNISHMENT WAY!!!! I am still at loss for words about that and the way I choked in my laughter, just wow..😳
After yelling at each other Rain gets upset about Payu calling him stupid again and because he is so angry he decides to just kiss Payu, he definitely tried to prove a point, which was that he would make Payu fall head over heels for him and as Payu gets over the shock he kisses Rain back. LISTEN Rain literally made Payu bleed with his forceful kiss and the thing is Payu did not mind one bit the way he smiled while he walked out, said enough. Payu has fallen completely for Rain (tbh I get it, everything about Rain is cute..)
The next morning Rain wakes up and regrets his life choices🤭 and Payu walks in like the god he is and gives him clothes, you would think this is innocent but nope Payu loves to tease him and gives him the small underwear and the way he throws it off the bed, made me giggle way too much.🤭
Rain the cutie comes down eventually and starts eating but seriously why is he so cute!!! the way Payu keeps staring at him, ugh just eat him already... I never thought I would fall for someone with long hair and drinking coffee but here we are, I am in love with Payu. I love how Rain gets interested in Payu's work and is all cute while checking it out (WHY DO THEY NEED TO LOOK AT EACH OTHER LIKE THAT AND ALSO THAT CLOSE, MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT!!!)🫠☠️ of course Payu sees this as an opportunity to see if he was right about the underwear size, which made me laugh again. the way Rain goes back to eat the damn sausage while hiding his D lol!!!
sir can you please not drink your coffee that sexily, thank you!!
Payu brings him home and unbuckles Rain, I would also think he would kiss me, as he again came way too close!! (damn you for giving me a solid heart attack again) Rain actually thinks Payu doesn't like him, can someone just tell him he is being stupid and cute at the same time because if only he knew but anyway Rain and his bets. Making Payu fall for him in 1 month. I laughed out loud because Payu is already in love, but hey good luck Rain!!! And yes Rain you are dancing exactly to Payu's tune!😏
Ep3....... (can I say, just in case this wasn't clear yet... I love Payu and Rain is the cutest man alive)
This episode starts with Payu and Prapai(his best friend) who chat about having a good mood, which is just a small crumb to the Sky and Prapai tl...anyway😇, Payu is waiting for Rain to make his move, speaking of which, Rain is stressed because he doesn't have much time to get on with his plan and asks Sky for help. First off Sky is surprised that Rain is going after a guy after having a crush on Ple but goes along with it and tells Rain to just show up in front of the guy he likes so he can't go around Rain. Now we can all just predict that this won't work....
Rain, of course, tries his best but every time he shows up at the garage Payu isn't there. He is desperate and as Sky talks to him he tells him to go a step further(Let's not forget about that hickey....😏) P Aon eventually feels sorry for him and leaves him a clue that Payu likes polite boys who call first. After taking a frustrating breath he finally sucks it up and calls Payu, who tells him he will come as soon as possible (which is 2 hours later but in Rain's defense I would also stay if I was waiting for a hot guy like Payu) As he is snacking in the office with Payu's brother Saifha, Payu finally shows up, which annoys Rain immensely and he is about to leave when Payu hold him back and pulls him along to get food. Little note here, it's obvious Rain is already falling hard for Payu, I mean did you see that smile on his face as he leaves the office while holding Payu's hand...😍
At the restaurant Payu makes Rain tell everyone he is trying to win over Payu's heart, making him feel annoyed again but not so annoyed as he lets Payu feed him. As I said he cutest boy ALIVE!!😍! Rain is still annoyed with Payu after they have eaten and storms off making Payu apologize and stop him. This brings us to the most endearing moment, where he removes a bug from Rain's face and the way Rain looks at him, sigh...my heart.🫠 Then Rain complains that Payu keeps calling him stupid and then Payu finally gives in and tells him as a reward that h has to replace idiot with cute. I giggled when he realized it and went down like that telling Payu was cheating with the biggest smile on his face. Such a cutie!!!😍 After that things are going smoothly between the two. They text and hang out more often but Rain also has a deadline which he ignores because he wants to hang with Payu, this gets him in trouble because he had to pull an all-nighter and overslept the next day, which makes him fail.
He somehow ends up at Payu all wet because he stood outside in the rain, which broke my heart, poor boy. I love how Payu came running when Saihfa called him and the way he crouched down and told Rain to come to him. The way he gave in and cried in Payu's arms, my heart just broke and my love for Payu became bigger. The warmth I felt in that hug, ugh Payu is the best and the way he cares for Rain is just amazing. He just hugged him without knowing the reason for his tears, where to find a guy like that!!🥺
now Payu does find out the reason and scolds Rain about it because the teacher was right. Rain needs to prioritize his life because it really is a test for the actual world. I do love the way Payu tells him this. He is not harsh but also doesn't beat around the bushes. That last hug in the episode made me smile because you can tell Payu loves him deeply already.
Ep4 (this is a long review, jeezzzz!! next week it will just be one episode!!!)
Episode 4 starts with Payu staring lovingly(okay not really more like worried) at Rain. I love how Rain gets tricked into telling Payu to kiss him again, he really doesn't realize this does he..but sadly Payu does not instead he tells Rain not to come over anymore. The way Rain instantly gets upset makes it even more clear how much he likes Payu and I kind of feel sorry for him but Payu is not wrong here.🥺 Payu tells him he wants Rain to have some balance, which is necessary because College is important(also expensive...)and as long as Rain doesn't have control over his life Payu doesn't want to date him because he wants a steady relationship. He wants Rain to be responsible for his own life first because if he can't do that how can Payu expect a serious relationship, and if he can't do that he can't come over anymore. Payu is definitely smart because he has given Rain a challenge with this and that is to prove to him he can be responsible. I love that Payu has that faith in him.🥹 The tenderness of this scene is something that I loved. The soft and patient tone Payu uses to an upset Rain, to make him understand that he does want him but not before he takes responsibility, ugh again where to find a man like that.🥹 In the remaining episode we see Rain working hard on his projects and we see him spend time with friends. Sky also helps Rain through everything, as he sits down with him and actually listens and gives him advice without pushing his opinion. I love this friendship. The way Sky can give Rain comfort, I just love it!! 🥰
Rain isn't Rain if he doesn't find a loophole though because he wants to show Payu that he is working hard and asks to work in the office, they first tell him no so Rain asks for a chair and ends up working outside. Payu eventually gives in and goes to Rain and tells him again that he told him not to come here. Rain is a smartass though as he tells him he needed a change of scenery, Payu doesn't like it so much but he can't help but smile at him(same Payu, this boy is too cute come on!!🫠 ) When he walks away P Aon comes and tells him he can work in the office. Payu let them know it was okay because he didn't want Rain to get sick as it was raining. While Rain works hard, we come to this scene that I personally love a lot. Rain has fallen asleep in the office, with his cute belly showing when Payu walks in. Instead of waking him he checks his work and makes little notes, which is the cutest ever. Payu can't help himself and gently caress Rain who is still sleeping(yes Rain we know you woke up when he touched your cheek) but as Payu went lower Rain started to moan softly (LIKE COME ON WHYYYYYYYY) AHUM ANYWAY... Payu tests him out by going under his shirt but as Rain still doesn't open his eyes he gently slaps his stomach, which makes Rain open his eyes. Payu told him something before he woke up and asks him if he wants to know and as Rain gets curious, Payu comes in closer with the intention to kiss him and Rain just waits for him to do this when Saihfa walks in, this made me curse and laugh, especially the way he left🤣 "Go on 3-2-1 *CLAP* 👏and he left!! awesome.
only to disturb again a few seconds after while telling not to forget to lock the door I was laughing so hard!! After that second time he told Rain "great job, smart boy" the way he praises Rain, and the way Rain touched his hair after Payu did. UGH MY HEART!!!!!!😍🫠
Of course, this motivates Rain enough to finish everything on time and when he is finally done he gives up on his sleep to go see Payu, who firstly scolds him but then gets jealous because Saihfa wanted to teach him how to ride a motorcycle. The way he told him that he would deal with Rain, ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I mean Payu even wanted to rush through his own work to spend time with Rain and here we see the character development of Rain. In the past he would want that but now he was satisfied with just seeing Payu's face. I know this must've made Payu proud and as a reward, he gave Rain a kiss, which I LOVED SO SO SO SO MUCH,😍 because it was such a sweet moment. the way they are already in love with each other, ugh, also again the smile while touching his hair after Payu touched it🥹😍
Now after Rain's presentation, he hurries back to Payu's house because he couldn't reach Payu(this is my guess because his phone had died) but again it was raining heavily and he stood there for god knows how long when Payu finally gets there. Payu is seriously upset and starts to scold Rain for waiting in the rain. He doesn't want him to get sick, when Rain takes his face between his hands and tells him how the teachers praised him and then the question comes "Am I good enough now, Can I stand by your side?" I loved this so much and the way Payu looks at him while making up his mind. SIGHHHHHHHH then he just grabs his hand and pulls him with him.
they moved to the bathtub to get clean and warm again. I love how they are just sweetly kissing at this point. The warmth it radiates and also my heart which was about to explode. I think it's cute how Rain stops him by telling him to get a bath by himself and how Payu keeps saying they are doing just that while hugging him.
I loved everything about this scene but the moment Payu started to apologize and the way Rains expression changed, I just wanted to scream so loudly because it went from confusion to love. and the way he initiated the kiss after he accepts his apology.!!!!!! I am in love!!
NOW THE NC SCENE.......WHICH NO ONE EXPECTED AND IT WAS LIKE A DAMN ATTACK ON MY SOUL, LIFE AND HEART AND EARS!!!!!!!!!! I AM NOT COMPLAINING!! BUT DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I have to say I love how Rain tried to stop it by telling, he didn't come here for that but Payu is like. "Didn't you want to know if you could stand by myself, this is my answer so just don't stop me" and Rain was like (OKAY) ..... (SAME THOUGH DAMN IT)
At this point, I turned down the sound and stopped breathing. Like this scene was hot and the moans, my dear people were very realistic!!!! Also, the body spasm and the facial expressions of Rain, like damn. at one point I asked myself if I was watching a softp*rn..also the ripping of the condom foil..... why is that sooo damn hot!!!! (You teach him Payu......) and then after the climax, Payu's words...
"Rain belongs to P' Payu now, Let me hear it"🔥☠️☠️
Yes, it is clear as daylight Rain belongs to Payu now....I think at this point we ALL belong to Payu, especially after this scene, because I might've said the same thing as Rain and on that note see you with the next messy review somewhere this week!!!

Joe Austin
I entered high school at the age of 13 due to a November birthday and no inclination at that time to give an immature little imp like me a cushy, extra year of pre-k. We called it nursery school back then and if you could flush a toilet you were on to Kindergarten.
So, barely out of my tweens, I remember exiting the bus, walking through the doors of Williamsville South High School and bracing for verbal attack. The kids here were intimidating. I felt so very naive and unsophisticated. I was a chubby, pimply open target. But as I navigated my way towards homeroom, I quickly noticed that nobody noticed me. Middle school had been so stocked with nasty. But refreshingly, High School kids seemed too busy getting to where they were getting and doing what they were doing to side-eye a dorky, incoming Freshman.
And so the year proceeded. I had my Mill Middle School friends and I welcomed new ones. I joined chorus and theater and the newspaper staff and made my way through the year.It was immediately clear to any incoming member of the student body that the biggest name on campus was Joe Austin. He was quarterback of our football team, The Williamsville Billies. (We are a suburb of Buffalo, home of The Bills, and our town name is Williamsville. Our mascot is a billy goat. It’s adorable.)
Anyway, when I told Media Path Podcast producer Dina Friedman that the star quarterback’s name was Joe Austin she said, “Oh, my God. It may as well have been Johnny Football.” But honestly, that was his name. Joe Austin. I was an obedient Freshman. I went to the obligatory compliment of games and pep rallies. “Go Billies!” I was in dutiful awe of the team, led to victory by our own Joe Austin. We all understand high school football stardust. It's like having celebrities on your campus. If we passed Joe Austin in a hallway, we’d jab each other and jerk our chins in his direction. You didn’t want to stare but, come on. It was Joe Austin, walking right past us. Carrying books, like a person.
I was so insignificant a high school ripple that the yearbook misspelled my name in the homeroom photo. As you can see, I defiantly carved an “r” IN INK over the “z” in Palankez. The year progressed. The seasons changed. From football to baseball. Joe Austin played baseball because, of course he did. We had absolutely nothing to do with one another. I never spoke to him. I never even imagined speaking to him.
That’s the year I enrolled in an acting class at The Studio Arena Theater and got to take the Main Street bus downtown and ride home with my Dad. That’s the year I skipped that acting class one day to watch The Cowsills on The Mike Douglas Show in the TV section of AM & A’s department store. That’s the year I become obsessed with the three part vocal harmony stylings of The Lettermen and began collecting their rich catalogue of records. That’s the year O.J. Simpson came over to our house for dinner! That’s the year our theater department put on Mame starring Bob Hinshaw, my actual senior crush. He could sing and dance and by the time he graduated, he had a beard. What a man. I had auditioned for the show with Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head and It turns out that Bacharach is very rangey. So, I was on the stage crew.
There was a lot going on during my Freshman year of High School. Joe Austin and I were in very separate orbits. The school year came to an end and that summer I decided to learn golf. I believe I was searching for acceptance. My natural interests had met with a ton of interference in our household. I wanted to play the drums, join a little league team, have a paper route, wear baseball caps, hockey skates and high tops. None of the above was “for girls.” So, OK, let’s try golf.
Every golf course has a driving range and a putting green. That’s where you take lessons and practice and both are situated fairly closely to the first tee of the course where there is a tiny building called the starter’s hut or shed. The Starter is an employee who is responsible for the orderly and timely movement of tee times, controlling the pace of play and thus ensuring that golfers are less likely to get beaned by the foursome behind them. The starter was equipped with a clipboard, a watch and a list of names organized into threesomes and foursomes. The job requires comportment, multi-tasking and grace under pressure as country club personalities can often be described as "challenging."
That summer, the starter at our country club was Joe Austin. And that summer, Joe Austin and I became best buddies. Nothing romantic. Just great pals, roaming the Westwood Country Club together, sharpening our games and talking about whatever mattered to us as dusk settled on the golf course. He was a delight. Bright, funny, kind. There was nothing mystical or magical about our friendship. We just liked each other.
The Universe had presented me with a perfect leveling of compatible humans removed from societal sorting systems such as High School. That’s how it felt from my perspective. To me, Joe had seemed unknowable. It’s possible that to Joe, a country club kid like me was from a different world. It’s hard to know. But absent any organized hierarchy, caste or strata, we were pals.
My friendship with Joe Austin lasted only the course of that summer but the lessons it taught me are sustaining. I belong anywhere I aspire to go. I may have to work to earn entry and acceptance but I can get there and I can build meaningful friendships with kindred souls.
The summer ended. I moved on to three more years of high school. Joe headed off to college or somewhere outside my view.
We enter each other’s lives to share lessons. I learned a lot from Joe Austin.

Wei reads 2Moons + The Ambassador (DOUBLE BILL)
Written by chiffon_cake The translations I read have been removed for obvious copyright issues. But if you dig, perhaps you might find someone else attempting the task.
It's been a long time coming. 2Moons Season 1 was literally one of my first forays into the Thai BL sphere, the other first introductions being Make It Right and SOTUS. With a spread like this, it makes you wonder how I stuck with it. Anyway, I had read someone's translations of 2Moons a few years ago, but didn't want to do this write up because I was hoping for official translations. It looks like that's never going to happen, despite chiffon_cake wanting it to happen at one point. Same with WHY R U (originally the official Eng version was supposed to be out last year) and Love By Chance (still salty that the fucking KlaNo book got translated to Eng over the other books but whatever, who cares about MAME anymore). As such, I do just want to give a fair warning that the summary after the cut will not be all encompassing and comprehensive. But I will do my best to remember the major story beats.
WARNING THIS RANT/REVIEW WILL HAVE SPOILERS FOR THE NOVEL SO EVERYTHING OTHER THAN SYNOPSIS IS UNDER A CUT.
Weilongfu synopsis: Ever since high school, Wayo Panitchayasawad (Yo) has had a secret. He has loved Phana Kongthanin (Pha) with his entire heart. So much so, that he has even chosen to go to the same university! So when Yo is chosen to be the Moon of the Science Faculty, it's a chance to get close to the handsome and talented Pha who was made the University Moon last year! The rest of the novel also follows the love story of Yo's best friend Ming as he chases Pha's friend Kit and the tumultuous love story between Pha's other two friends Forth and Beam.
The Ambassador is a story which follows the love story of Suthee, the Medical Faculty Moon picked the same year as Yo, and how in his second year, he is constantly flirted with by the Moon of the Dentistry Faculty, Nic. (At least, if I remember correctly, the translation I read said Nic is a Dental Faculty, despite how Google Translate says Faculty of Agriculture?)
Official synopsis on Meb (Google Translate): 2Moons Book 1: Do you see that man A person with a handsome face with a strong aura, holding a dark eyebrow, but always likes to look sick all the time. It was that person who made me choose to study at this university. And made me stand here at this time to participate in the Moon Stars contest to want to be close to him. Because he is a senior that I have been secretly crushed on since high school - Wayo Phanichsawat (Yo) Do you see that boy? A person with a simple, thin and tall look doesn't look very charming. That person who I am extremely annoyed. Look at it and know that it is the young mistress. As well as a child without etiquette But I'm standing here right now because I was last year's university month. So he had to become a mentor for the next generation of contestants, and that kid was also one of them. - Phana Kongthanin (Pa)
The Ambassador: Do you see that man Handsome guy Wear a lot of silver jewelry if asked how handsome I can say that my relatives 'Pee Pa' class handsome. But it had just appeared when the month of the contest had ended. If that guy came faster I would not have to put my face to sell to the name of the group with the position of vice plum ... This year's ambassador contest, I have to make it a representative to compete - cold wind, do you see that man? People who look cute The owner of the month of the Faculty of Agriculture this year looks like that side is a little bit offensive to me. But the point is, I don't like how he looks down on himself and forces me to go to the ambassador contest. What do I have to do? Since the person who represents it should be a month like him ... Even if the other party will use the lure of the ball collide. I would definitely not fall into the noose to represent the contest.
Overall Plot Assessment and Summary: As my frame of reference for having read these books was a while back, I'm going to just break down what happens for each couple, including the couple from The Ambassador. Gentle reminder that I'm obviously going to forget some key events. But this is the best I can do.
PhaYo: Yo had a crush on Pha since high school. He always followed him around to look at him. When Pha was going to graduate, being a year ahead of him, Yo planned to confess. However, Pha had been confronted by Kit and Beam and said that he wasn't gay or ever interested in boys. Yo ran away after that and Pha did not meet him again. Yo was then admitted to the same university as Pha. Pha, Kit, and Beam were in the Med Faculty while Yo was in Science. Yo's best friend Ming is in Engineering along with another friend that Pha, Kit, and Beam made, Forth. Over the course of practicing for the Moon and Star competition, Yo keeps interacting with Pha, but it's all antagonistic! Pha keeps picking on him and Yo gets more and more sad that maybe he'll never confess to Pha. Forth also starts hitting on Yo and making it clear that he intends to date Yo. Things take a turn when Pha comes in one day to observe the juniors practicing and sees Yo in GLASSES. Suddenly he realizes he is a dumbass and that Yo is his little Wayo that he had a crush on back in high school. Pha decides to really pursue Yo in earnest. He offers to help Yo find a place to practice playing the piano for his talent and makes things happen so that he can stay with Yo in the same room during a beach trip to take photos for the competition. However, at the same time, Pring, last year's university Star, also comes along and flirts with Pha. Pha does not push her away which upsets Yo. Yo pushes Pha away and Pha ends up with no choice but to confess on the way home that he remembers Yo and sends him a picture of a note. Back in high school, Pha found a note that Yo had dropped as he ran, confessing that "P'Pha is the best for me." Yo and Pha start their relationship in earnest from there, with Yo giving Pha the gift he intended with his confession, a bracelet. Yo sings a special song just for Pha as part of his performance. Voting for popularity is done by giving roses. Pha buys a hundred roses just for Yo and even more in his car. Yo wins Most Popular, but comes in 2nd Place. Ming wins as University Moon. Pha gives Yo a matching bracelet after the competition. Over the course of Books 2 and 3, Pha and Yo work on their relationship. Both are exceptionally jealous. Yo gets mad that Pha isn't paying as much attention to him and still being nice to Pring and so he goes out with a guy from Chemistry named Park. Yo at another point comes to see Pha as he's studying, but is told to go away via text. However, it appears someone else is using Pha's phone. Pha takes the opportunity to introduce Yo as his boyfriend to all the people he's studying with. Somewhere in the middle, the two have their first time and Pha is apparently very ravenous because he goes multiple rounds in one night. Yo's room is often their love nest for such activities, much to the annoyance of his neighbor until his neighbor gets a girlfriend who finds the sounds of Yo and Pha having sex hot. Towards the end of Book 3, after one such night, Pha goes out to help Pring because she's drunk under Yo's insistence to be a good person. When Pha comes back, nothing seems amiss, but the next morning, photos of Yo naked and in compromising positions are spread all over campus. No one is able to contact Yo and Pha finds out that the person who spread the pictures everywhere is Park. Pha kicks his ass along with Forth. Pha then finds out Yo has gone back home to his father, one of the richest men in Thailand. Pha waits outside Yo's house until late and is let in by Yo's father. Yo's father gives Pha his blessing and lets Pha into Yo's room for the two to work things out.
MingKit: While Pha is wooing Yo, Kit wonders if Ming and Yo are actually dating. He intends to check if they are. Ming starts to talk to Kit and Beam, joking about, and particularly poking at Kit before they leave for the beach. At the beach, Ming bugs Kit some more to buy ice with him for a drinking party held by Forth. Ming uses this opportunity to trick Kit into giving him his phone number. Kit gets so mad, he tells Ming to stay on the beach and never talk to him again. Ming stays out there until another senior that came to the beach spots him and makes him come to the drinking party. (Pha was supposed to attend the party as well but claimed to stay behind with Yo because he suddenly didn't feel like going.) Kit and Ming have a bit of an awkward and stilted conversation during the drinking party, but Kit leaves to answer his phone. Ming follows and apologizes for his actions. When everyone returns to the university, Ming continues to bother Kit. Especially at the gym as Ming practices his martial arts demonstration. After his workout, Kit finds his car won't start and Ming calls for people to come fix it and asks if Kit wants to eat something while they wait. Ming takes Kit to a noodle place. Ming asks Kit to cheer for him at the Moon and Star competition as well as to eat with him again. Kit initially refuses, but finally is worn down into agreeing to cheer for Ming, but not as much as he'll cheer for Suthee (his faculty Moon) and Yo (because you have to support the boss's bae). In order to get Ming to shut up, Kit also agrees to have a meal with Ming again if Ming wins the competition. Ming does win and takes Kit for the meal, despite how Kit tries to hide or run away. As they drive to the meal, Ming gets a call from his ex, Moowan. Kit is put off by the way Ming talks to her because it sounds like Ming is still dating her but trying to pursue Kit. Ming clarifies what the situation is between him and Moowan before calling her and telling her that they can't talk the way they do anymore because Ming is chasing someone (Kit). Ming also accidentally leaves his University Moon sash with Kit after that dinner. The next day, Ming actually needs to go to a photoshoot as the winner, and needs the sash. Kit brings it but also finds that Moowan came to surprise Ming and is currently doting on him plenty. Ming eventually drags Kit away to explain that Moowan came to surprise him and that nothing is going on. Things accelerate from there as after exams, Ming finds Kit about to go home for his father's birthday. Ming bugs Kit until Kit agrees to let him drive him home. They stop at a mall to buy Kit's father a present and wind up meeting Kit's ex girlfriend. Ming gets worried for a second, but then gets along with her fine and she entrusts Kit to him. When they get to Kit's home, Ming pushes for a kiss, and the two are caught by Kit's older brother Kieng. Kieng tries to test them, and in the end, after dinner, says that its fine for Kit to date Ming, but they must not tell their parents about it yet. Afterwards, Kit asks if Ming really does love him and accepts all of him. Ming replies that he does and the two officially are boyfriends.
ForthBeam: Somewhere between Book 2 and 3, Kit pretends to date Beam during the whole fiasco with Moowan coming to visit. After that all gets worked out, Beam gets upset and goes drinking because he doesn't want Kit to date Ming and contemplates if he really has feelings for Kit. At some point, Beam and Forth end up drinking at a common friend's place. Forth carries Beam up to a bedroom to sleep and Beam refuses to let go of Forth, not wanting to lose another friend. In their drunken state, the two have sex. Beam is understandably not feeling so well from a rough night of not very well prepared anal sex. Forth realizes he likes Beam and runs after him. Forth then spends a lot of time trying to get Beam to open up to him, acknowledge Forth's feelings, and to accept them. At one point, Forth finds Beam drinking again and takes him away from a woman trying to take advantage of him and saying Beam is his "wife." Forth drives Beam home dangerously on his bike until Beam agrees to be his boyfriend, but it doesn't really click until Forth goes on a service trip with other Engineering students. Beam decides to come along as well to keep an eye on him. Forth tries to tell Beam not to exert himself too much during the trip, but Beam doesn't listen. He ends up doing a slightly poor job and Forth gets hurt keeping the junior students safe. Beam feels bad and goes to keep an eye on Forth at the hospital, where the two finally come to a better understanding and become actual boyfriends. Later that night, Forth and Beam share a sleeping space after Forth plays a trick on Beam to get him a little upset. All of this does happen before the final PhaYo confrontation about Park.
The Ambassador featuring Suthee and Nic: The following year, we find out more about Suthee, the previously well mannered and nice Medical Moon. Turns out, he's smart and all that, but he's surprisingly foul mouthed and likes to sleep in. He gets a call from a number he doesn't know and gets annoyed that they keep waking him up to ask for his name and such. Suthee also finds out that he's been roped into helping with this year's Moon and Star competition. There, he meets Nic, the Moon of the Dental Faculty. Yo and Kit tease their boyfriends about finding Nic handsome. However, Nic appears to only have eyes for Suthee and sticks to him like glue. More and more, Nic keeps on flirting and trying to get Suthee to like him. We also find out Suthee was in what he calls an abusive relationship with his ex boyfriend and Nic goes with him to confront him for the last time. We also find out that Nic has his own issues with a (famous) ex girlfriend who claims Nic made her pregnant. Nic denies it and eventually comes up with proof that he's not the father, although I believe it's just that he'd broken up with her and never had sex with her without a condom. I don't think a genetic test was done. Eventually, Suthee agrees to date Nic and accepts that he's got feelings for him after the competition ends. Towards the end, we find out Nic never wanted to be his faculty Moon. In fact, the only reason why he agreed was that during orientation, they showed a slide show of all the cute boys on campus, most of which were previous Moons. PhaYo, Ming, and Forth were on the list and marked as unapproachable due to being attached to someone already. Nic immediately is interested when Suthee's picture shows up on screen and he agrees to be his Faculty Moon just to get his number.
Bonus chapters and books are primarily either post 2Moons books epilogues about their life after graduating (very cute) to a bonus scene where the med students have to go on a trip to Japan for a conference with one of their professors. They're very sad to leave behind their boyfriends and plan on skipping to see them or take them out, but then they get caught by the boyfriends who came to visit and get punished.
Unsurprisingly, 2Moons has a large amount of stuff going on, lots of characters you have to keep your eyes on (Park and Pring show up as obstacles to PhaYo several times), and lots of lead up to each couple. The Ambassador is probably the weakest link in terms of story and plot, the overall arc for it seeming kind of weak, but we'll get into that. I definitely do wonder if chiffon_cake's other novels are quite so long and full of couples.
The Gripes: So during the airing of 2Moons1 and 2Moons2, people would complain about PhaYo being boring and dismissing them in favor of MingKit or ForthBeam. Or they'd bring up the fact that PhaYo actually have rather toxic obsession and jealousy issues.
I'm here to say that while PhaYo aren't boring, yes, they have issues. I'm already on record saying NONE of the 2Moons couples are free of sin, and if that's really a gripe FANDOM has, then okay, let's talk about it.
So are Pha and Yo unhealthily obsessed with each other? Yeah. Kinda. They're also very bad jealous monsters. They're also supposed to be the, "I loved you from first sight and I'll always love you," couple. So showing that level of possession, jealousy, and obsession is kind of par for the course. Is it right? Well it's an ancient trope that hasn't aged well. I am not sure when 2Moons was written, but I am sure that this level of jealousy and possessiveness is not well taken these days. So we'll just put that on the list for now.
MingKit's problem is communication. The two are just fucking awful at it. Ming doesn't take things seriously enough and then has to run his mouth like crazy when he finds out Kit is mad, see Moowan. Kit likes to bottle things up inside and not say things until he's about to explode. I do think they get better at it later on, so at least they improve.
ForthBeam have the issue with the fact that they had a drunken hook up and maybe Forth coerced Beam into agreeing to date him until finally Beam accepted of his own volition at some point. I will say, Forth at least worked his ass off to make it up to Beam and show he could be a good boyfriend.
With NicSuthee, I would say their book suffers from being the weakest. The plot arc is not well constructed. Suthee seems so WILDLY different from the way he is portrayed in the original books, but perhaps we can excuse that because of the trauma he's gone through dating an asshole. And I just did not feel the chemistry between him and Nic. Do I think it's great that Suthee got himself a nice boyfriend that's rich and handsome? Yeah. But that's par for the course for these things. Give me something new chiffon_cake! Everyone always ends up dating someone rich and handsome!
No, I'm not jealous, shut up!
Pros? Cons? Would you recommend? For the pros, I'd definitely say that although it's your usual college story, there is enough interesting happenings within the framework as you watch three couples dance around each other.
A good example is one of my favorite scenes is from a special chapter in the books where the Wild Doctors (Pha, Kit, and Beam) have to go collect donations. This occurs shortly after Bean and Forth had their wild drunken night of sex. All the doctors are tired from collecting donations. Yo, Ming, and Forth show up to see them. Yo feeds Pha fish balls very cutely and Pha is proud that he's the one with no relationship problems. Ming tries to get Kit to accept his donation, but Kit refuses to face him because he "accidentally" sent a cute love related sticker to Ming. Pha gets him to accept the donation. Meanwhile, Beam is getting donations from some one and every time they donate, Forth donates more money. Beam collapses though from not feeling well and Forth tries to give him water, but Beam refuses. Pha intervenes to get Beam to drink the water, but only after confirming that Forth is serious in his pursuit of Beam. Ming then tries to trick Pha into leaving without Kit and Beam so he can whisk Kit away, but finds out it's a lie since Ming lured him in with the idea of a date with Yo and Yo didn't even make the plan in the first place. Pha then pulls his friends behind him to protect them from the advances of Ming and Forth, but Yo hits him and calls him a bully, causing him to lose his chance as while he placates Yo, the other two boys whisk their love interests away. It's very cute and funny and shows just how whipped each boy is for the other.
In The Ambassador, I guess one of the better scenes is Suthee confronting his ex and being able to fall back on Nic to help him when his ex gets rough. I think it was good to show Suthee standing up for himself, especially after an abusive relationship.
As to cons, I would say it's a bit dated. But many of the novels that have become dramas are dated. They're popular because of how long they've been around. And that means they come with tropes that are not looked at as fondly anymore. These include very large amounts of jealousy, drunk sex without previously discussed consent, presumed sexual assault (there are pictures of Yo and a picture of a bruise on his neck, but it's unclear if Park ever actually did anything to him), and straight girl that interferes with boys.
Do I recommend 2Moons? I wouldn't say it's required reading, but it is an overall, mostly fun novel series. The few issues it does have are not terribly distracting unless they're things that really are not for you. I would even chance to say that even The Ambassador isn't awful, but I just wouldn't put it up high on the priority list either unless you wanted MORE 2Moons but just not about the actual 2Moons boys. If you can find a translation, give it a shot. At least you're not paying for it at the moment. If an official translation ever does get released for sale, I'll definitely consider it because I always feel like the fan translations skipped something!

After appearing on-stage in "Peter Pan", "Auntie Mame", "Little Shop of Horrors" and "The Music Man", guest parts quickly followed on television series, including Firefly (2002), ER (1994), CSI: Miami (2002), NCIS (2003), and The Guardian (2001). After guest-starring in several episodes of Summerland (2004), Zac joined the regular cast as girl-crazy Cameron Bale. TROUBLE WITH NAMES
June 19, 1973
Los Angeles - Like Jack Paar, Lucille Ball has trouble with names. At a party at her home, a lawn bash catered by Chasen's and attended by more television editors than you'll every see in one place, she was mentioning some of the stars who will appear in her show this year, among them John Davis, better known to the public and Miss Ball, when she gets it straight, as John Davidson.
Miss Ball, looking much better in person than she did on the Jack Paar show where she was lighted by Jack the Ripper, did as she usually does, fraternized with her guests before dinner then stood at the microphone where she answered questions from her guests.
One of the first, not surprisingly, was about Watergate; because so many performers have become politically vociferous, they are being asked to give their opinions on the matter.
"What the hell do I know about Watergate?" said Miss Ball, who then went on to say that she did feel television was giving the hearing good coverage.
"People can stop saying that television is no good for anything. I don't mind missing some of the other programming while it is on," she said.
Not too easy with the question, Miss Ball was pleased when someone said he hoped she didn't mind if he changed the subject. "I'm glad you did," said Miss Ball, who then discussed her film version of "Mame," saying the same things she did on the Paar show, that she hopes the people who see her on television will go see the film, that the dancing she does in the film has helped strengthen the leg she broke while skiing and that it is absolutely not true that she did not want Bea Arthur to play Vera.
It is true, however, that Miss Arthur was omitted from the photographic displays Miss Ball had arranged in her garden, pictures showing Miss Ball dancing, Miss Ball with Robert Preston and Miss Ball looking marvelously young, like no more than 45.
The actress' children did not attend the party. Lucy, Jr. was doing "Cabaret" in Flint, Mich., and Desi, Jr. was in parts unknown to his mother, maybe on a date with Joan Crawford.
A New York columnist asked if Liza Minnelli had coached Lucy, Jr., in preparation for the "Cabaret" production, and Miss Ball said no, she did not, that Lucy would have been overwhelmed by the experience.
Most Important Question
Then came the most important question of the evening, was Miss Ball surprised when her son and Miss Minnelli ended their relationship?
"I wasn't," she said. "I've known Liza since she was a little girl and you know you can't domesticate a dynamo.
"Desi was shocked, though. In fact, he was devastated. Then he got a date one night, and I haven't seen him since."
Someone asked the name of the girl and before Miss Ball could answer, someone said it was Merle Oberon, some one else said it was Gloria Swanson, and someone else, more playful than the rest, suggested Dame Edith Evans.
Miss Ball didn't hear any of this, or pretended not to and said she always seemed to get custody of the dogs involved in the romantic affairs of her children.
She now has seven, she said. Liza left Emaline, and Pooky is Desi's dog, and when the visitors recorded that information, Miss Ball said, 'Does that make a story?"
Not really. Not the story Miss Ball is. She has been on television for 22 years now, consecutive years, and is seemingly indestructible. In 10 years, she will probably be announcing the stars who will do her show, among them, no doubt, Merle Oberon.

FOOTNOTES FROM THE FUTURE
Lucille Ball was then getting ready to premiere her sixth and final season of “Here’s Lucy” on CBS. Although not specified here, some of the guest cast Lucy might have announced at the party were Danny Thomas, Ed McMahon, Jackie Coogan, Andy Griffith, Joan Rivers, Foster Brooks, O.J. Simson, Steve Lawrence, Eydie Gorme, Eddie Albert, Frankie Avalon, Chuck Connors, Milton Berle and Phil Harris. The final season of the series was a rotating roster of celebrities, most playing themselves - or something close.
“Jack Paar Tonight” (1973) is not to be confused with “The Tonight Show” on NBC, a program he hosted in 1957. This was an ABC TV late night talk show that was supposed to rival his successor, Johnny Carson. It failed to do so and was gone by Christmas. Judging by this June 1973 article, Ball must have appeared on the show in its early days, although records are unclear.
The press seems intent on trivializing Desi Arnaz Jr.’s recent break-up with singer Liza Minnelli. Arnaz previously dated actress Patty Duke when he was 17 and she was 23. He accompanied Duke to the 1970 Emmy Awards ceremony where she won the Emmy for Outstanding Single Performance. The relationship became tabloid news and his mother did not approve of them together. Arnaz was subsequently involved with Liza Minnelli, seven years his senior. Arnaz accompanied Minnelli to the Academy Awards ceremony in March 1973 when she won the Oscar for Best Actress for Cabaret. The reporters joke about Desi dating such senior celebs as Merle Oberon (born in 1911, same as Lucille), Joan Crawford (born in 1904), Gloria Swanson (born in 1899), and Dame Edith Evans (born in 1888).
Speaking of Cabaret, Lucie Arnaz was then playing the plum role of Sally Bowles on stage in Flint, Michigan. With Minnelli winning the Golden Statuette just a few months earlier, one can certainly see why having your brother’s Oscar-winning ex-girlfriend coach you might be an “overwhelming experience”. This would not be the first time Lucie would play Bowles. She also did the role closer to home in 1972.
Liza’s father, Vincente Minnelli, directed Lucy and Desi in MGM’s The Long, Long Trailer in 1953. Liza was seven years old at the time.
Meryl Oberon died in 1979 - without ever guest-starring on a Lucille Ball sitcom. A year before her death, in March 1978, however, Oberon and Ball were both in attendance at “The American Film Institute Salute to Henry Fonda” - as close as they ever got.
