When Sylvie Brett arrived at Firehouse 51 for her first shift, she was nervous walking in. Or rather, she was terrified.
When she was in the floater pool 51 was one of those houses that everyone had talked about - the people who worked there were too close, they spent time together off shift, there was a couple working there together, the Chief even got married there - but she didn’t mind that. The way they talked about it kind of reminded her of home, of living in a town with less than 300 inhabitants. Plus, she’d learned her lesson. Don’t crap where you eat. Or, rather, don’t date someone who you spend a huge amount of time with because it’ll make your life utter hell when he leaves you at the altar and you run away with his car.
At least, that’s what she thought she knew. But as Sylvie walked across the app floor her eyes met a pair of blue ones that were filled with so much pain, and all Sylvie could think was she was a goner.
“Hey, I’m Capp. Welcome to 51.” A tall man came over to her, and she held out her hand for a shake.
“Sylvie Brett, I’m the new paramedic on 61. I need to meet Chief Boden?”
“Yeah, of course. C’mon this way.” He led her through the double doors into the common room, then out the side door. There were people turning to look at her as she walked through, but she just followed Capp straight to the office. He knocked on the door, motioning for Sylvie to go on in with a smile.
“Come in!”
“Chief Boden? I’m—“
“Sylvie Brett, originally trained as a paramedic in Fowlerton, Indiana. You moved to Chicago two months ago and joined the floater pool, but any firehouse I’ve asked have spoken about you very highly. I’m just the house that had an open position first.” The tall Black man held out his hand, Sylvie taking it and shaking firmly.
“I’m glad I have a good reputation already. Is there anything I need to know about the house?”
“I’ll get your partner in here. Are you aware of the reasons we needed a new paramedic to join second shift?”
Sylvie nodded. She’d just arrived to Chicago and had joined CFD when the news of the paramedic killed in a bombing had reverberated through the fire department and the city as a whole, everyone feeling it. Paramedics were supposed to be the safe ones.
“Leslie Shay, right?”
“Yes. It’s still hard for everyone, she had a lot of friends here. I’d appreciate your patience while people are dealing with everything that’s going on.”
“I understand Chief. Thanks for the warning.” There was a knock on the door, a dark haired woman appearing in the doorway.
“Chief?”
“Dawson. Meet Sylvie Brett who’ll be riding on 61 with you. She’s been a floater, but we’ve high hopes for her.”
“It’s good to meet you, I’ll show you around the firehouse.”
Sylvie took the roll of painters tape and sharpie from Dawson when they were in the locker room, writing her name and sticking it up. Her bag was pushed into the locker and her radio belt thrown around her neck as the bells went for the ambulance and they were off.
The day flew by for her, going from being introduced to people at her firehouse to meeting people at the hospitals they went to. They were kept busy, but she and Dawson - Gabby as she was informed on their second run with a patient - seemed to get along well. The woman was quiet, an engagement ring on her finger and a smile for her fiancé, the Lieutenant on the truck crew, but having someone in her corner made Sylvie feel at ease.
But she saw the double takes that some people did when she walked into the common room, the head shakes and darkened faces that cleared quickly. So she pulled out her phone to do some googling of her own. When she searched for Leslie Shay she saw the woman’s official academy portrait, blonde hair and similar features to Sylvie. She could have been her big sister. Suddenly the awkwardness made sense, and Sylvie was determined to just be herself and get through the rest of the day without any weirdness.
After one more run they made it back to the house for food, Mills serving up dinner for everyone with a smile. He was the newest member of Squad 3, and an excellent cook to boot.
“Welcome to 51, Sylvie Brett,” he said as he handed over a plate of spaghetti, Sylvie smiling back at him.
“Glad to meet you, Peter Mills,” she replied, sitting down with Gabby and the guys from Truck. There were introductions and handshakes, Sylvie trying to keep the names straight in her head. Cruz, Otis, Mouch, Herrmann, and Casey. Gabby and Casey were engaged, Mouch was dating a cop from what people had said about him, Herrmann was a father of five and co-owned a bar with Gabby and Otis, and Otis and Cruz were roommates. There was so much to remember about everyone on her shift.
But finally the first 24 hour shift in her new firehouse was over and Sylvie walked out to her car with Gabby and Casey, the man she’d first seen when she arrived at 51 walking out beside Casey.
“Sylvie. Have you talked to Severide yet? He’s the Squad Lieutenant, he lives with us.” Matt gestured between the two of them as he spoke. “I didn’t see the two of you talk on shift.”
“We didn’t have the pleasure. Sylvie Brett, it’s nice to meet you.” She nodded at Severide, getting a grunt in response before he spoke properly.
“Kelly Severide. Welcome to 51.”
Before she could ask him anything else they were at the silver Hyundai, so Sylvie waved goodbye and drove home. Or at least what counted as home now. It was a one bedroom apartment that was beautiful, even if it wasn’t in a great part of Pilsen. But the rent was cheap, the architecture was original to the building, and it had come mostly furnished. When you were running away from everything you’d ever known and loved accepting those pieces of help was important.
Once she made sure that her front door was locked, the chain was on, and she’d pushed a chair against the door Sylvie got into bed. It was her first shift in her permanent firehouse and she hadn’t disgraced herself. Maybe moving to Chicago was a good thing for her after all.
The next week went by in a daze, constantly busy but enjoying every single moment of it. The nights after her shifts she went to Mollys. It was owned by the members of 51 and seemed to always have first responders there so it was a good night. She’d sit at the bar and order a glass of wine while talking to her new coworkers. It didn’t pass her notice that Severide basically ignored her when he didn’t have to talk to her on shift, and others had begun to realise it too. But Sylvie wasn’t letting his bad manners bring her down, it just wasn’t worth it.
She’d met the other members of Squad Three properly apart from Mills and Severide. Tony was a sweetheart, welcoming her to Chicago and offering to help her if there was anything she needed to get used to the city. Capp was like a giant golden retriever, and when he saw her in Molly’s for the second time he wrapped his arms around her to give her a hug. Most of the time if a tall man had swept her off her feet into a hug she’d have freaked out, but Capp was lovely and a genuinely nice guy. 51 was a good house to be in with good people, and she was acutely aware of how lucky she was to have gotten her spot.
On shift they were called to an accident a few blocks away from her apartment, and when she mentioned that she was near home she didn’t miss the look that passed between Gabby and Casey at her words. She was from Indiana, not an idiot - no matter how much people from Illinois liked saying it was the same thing - and she had a sudden sickening feeling that an intervention for her living space was in her future. Gabby even let her drive the rig back to the firehouse, just cementing Sylvie’s worry.
But nothing was said and she waved goodbye to everyone before getting into her car to drive home. When she pulled up outside her apartment Casey’s truck pulled in behind her, and Sylvie just glared at them as she got out of the car.
“I’m a grown adult, folks, I can do what I want and live where I want. I’m fine, seriously,” she said as she watched the couple step out of the truck and look at her.
“You can live where you want, Brett, but we care about you. 51 is a family, and you’re part of it now. If you want to live here that’s fine, but can you please let Matt take a look? He’s a contractor, he can add some locks or something for your door to make sure you’re secure. Please?” She looked at Gabby’s serious eyes, at Casey’s posture standing behind his fiancee and relented, spreading her arms to welcome them into her home.
“Come on in. Do either of you want some coffee?”
She could see the moment the beauty of her apartment hit them as they took in the features, Matt nodding at the original crown moulding and decor. Casey took a look at her front and back doors, nodding at the lock and going out to his truck while Sylvie brewed and poured coffee. She put one of the mugs in front of Gabby who pushed it away from her.
“I shouldn’t be telling anyone yet, but you’re my partner so you need to know. Matt and I are having a baby. I found out the day you joined 51, so I can’t drink coffee. I’m just trying to get through the day without nausea.”
“Congratulations!” Sylvie really was thrilled, she and Gabby had become fast friends since she’d moved to Chicago, and she felt lucky to have her in her life.
“Thanks.” Before she could say anything else Matt came into the kitchen, smiling and taking the mug of coffee that Sylvie offered him.
“I’ve added a dual action bolt lock to the front and back doors. It’s super easy for you to use, but it means you don’t need to worry about your security. I’d recommend getting a full security system put in. There’s some designed for renters that would work pretty well for you. But you’re as safe as you’re going to be here. It’d still be a good idea for you to move, but I know better than to suggest that to you.”
“Ha, thanks. Maybe in a few months when I’ve saved up some money. Thanks for this Matt, you didn’t have to do it.”
“Any time at all. We should probably get home, I’m exhausted. See you tonight?”
“Sure.”
As the weeks passed she felt more sure about what she was doing, that she’d made the right decision when she moved to Chicago. She’d shown off some of her skills from working in an underfunded and overtaxed EMS unit, improvising with tubing to intubate a child and getting Gabby’s seal of approval. Her partner had announced her pregnancy, confirming that she’d stay on ambo until she hit twenty weeks. It was a disappointment for Sylvie that she’d lose such a good partner so soon, but every single time Gabby mentioned being excited to be a mom she just grinned and enjoyed the joy on the soon to be parents face.
But things were nearly going too well, and when they arrived back from a run one day there was a dark haired man standing on the app floor, talking to Matt and Severide.
“My fiancee, Sylvie, works here apparently. We’ve all been so worried about her, it took me time to find out where she is.” It was Harrison standing there and he was the last person Sylvie ever wanted to see. She could hear him talking as she walked up, straightening her spine and preparing for whatever was about to happen.
“Ex fiancee, Harrison. Ex for a reason, or do you remember why things ended?”
“The briefing room is free if you want to talk in there,” Severide offered. Sylvie gave him a nod in response, indicating for Harrison to follow her through the building. Her strides were quick down the hallway and she didn’t bother looking behind her to make sure he was following her. If he wanted to talk, he could follow her lead. And that he did, coming into the briefing room and shutting the door behind them, looking closely at Sylvie as she crossed her arms,
“You need to come home, Sylvie. We’ve been worried sick about you, you’ve done enough damage with your games. Think about what this is doing to your Mom.”
“I talked to her last week, she knows exactly where I am and has my address to send me stuff. She just didn’t tell you because I told her not to tell anyone else. We’re not in a relationship anymore, Harrison, you don’t get to know anything about my life anymore. We’re done. You ended it when you said “I don’t” and left the church halfway through our wedding ceremony.” She kept her face still, watching as he took her words in.
“We need to make it work. C’mon, Sylvie. You don’t belong here at all. What happens when you get hurt? You won’t be able to make it in a city, come home. I can forget about you taking my car, about all of it. Just come home and we can have our life like we should.” His words were soothing, and Sylvie nearly agreed with him. She so very nearly decided to go with him. Because yes Chicago was scary and she’d realised she lived in an awful part of town.
But she’d built a life here. She had friends. She was crocheting a baby blanket set for Gabby and Matt, and she’d created a routine for herself. Herrmann had invited her to dinner with his family so she didn’t spend every night alone, and she’d already been told she was going there for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She and Peter were becoming good friends. Fowlerton may have been her hometown, but it wasn’t home anymore. And his words ran through her head. Those words of how she couldn’t do it, how she couldn’t make her way in the world without him.
And he was wrong because she had. She was Sylvie Brett and she’d been living in Chicago for more than three months. She’d floated between multiple firehouses and saved lives every single day. She’d saved a baby the week before. She could do it and she was thriving. She couldn’t let the nerves and distrust that her ex made her feel win. She deserved so much more than that.
“I forgot what it was like. That pit in my stomach that made me feel like I didn’t deserve anything. That feeling’s been completely gone since I left.” He looked surprised at her words, and Sylvie dug through her pants for her car keys. “Take it. Take the car and get out of here. I never want to see you again as long as I live.”
“You don’t mean that. You know I love you, Sylvie.”
“You didn’t love me when you shoved your tongue down my Maid of Honour’s throat before we were supposed to get married. Hope told me everything after you left the church. I’m done.” Sylvie walked away, opening the door as he yelled at her.
“Get back here!” Before she could even think about turning around to him Severide was there, waiting in the hallway.
“She told you to leave, so you should leave. This is a workplace, not a social club. Brett has a job to do.” He was his usual gruff self, but Sylvie nodded as she turned around and watched Harrison shake his head.
“Fine.”
She watched him leave, taking a deep breath when he went out the doors by the tower to the app floor. Sylvie leaned against the wall to support herself, taking a moment.
“Are you ok?” Severide asked, Sylvie nodding in response.
“Yeah. My ex telling me I can’t live my life or do my job? It’s totally fine.”
“I know I don’t say it, but you’re a good paramedic. Seriously. I’m glad you’re at 51, Brett.”
Sylvie smiled in response, but before she could answer they were interrupted by the bells calling them out to a car crash. The rest of the shift passed, and she was exhausted. But even with how tired she was she had to work out how to get home because she no longer had a car. The money that was in her “move somewhere better” fund would be going to get a vehicle she could use instead of moving, but it was an essential purchase. At least she could walk home from work, it was bright and it wouldn’t be too bad.
As Sylvie walked across the app floor she heard her name being called, turning around to see Severide jog across the floor to her. She was immediately confused. He’d always been standoffish so seeking her out twice in one shift? That was unusual to put it mildly.
“Look, I know this is weird. I booked a trip to Vegas leaving in a couple of hours and Capp was supposed to come with me. He’s had to pull out from going, do you want to come? I’ll lose the money on the flight and hotel if you don’t want to, so you may as well come and enjoy some sun.
Sylvie thought for a moment. Would it work? Was this even a good idea to get on a plane and travel halfway across the country with a guy who seemed he could barely stand her? The idea to get away from Chicago and forget about what had happened with Harrison. Some sun, a few drinks, time away? It seemed idyllic.
“Sure. Can you give me a ride to my place so I can pack a bag?”
And less than two hours later Sylvie was sitting in the passenger seat of Kelly Severide’s car as he pulled into a parking spot at Midway. Sylvie was fully packed and ready for two days and a night in the sun, away from Chicago entirely.

“Excuse me.”
A rough gravely voice made 8 year old you look up at the imposingly tall figure above you. You squinted as flurries of Chicago snow fluttered around the two of you, sticking to the cracked cement and dried up grass on the sidewalk. The man had short dark hair and what your child’s brain thought of as “Dumbo-like” ears. He wore a blue and black police uniform and had a shiny silver star badge pinned to his chest.
“Hi,” The man said, moving down to kneel so that you were both around the same height. “Are you lost?”
You stared at the police officer for a second before shaking your head no, “I live around the corner.”
“Oh okay, how about I walk you home? Your mom and dad must be worried about you.” He offered. Again, you shook your head.
“I don’t want to go home. I don’t have a mom and my dad’s mean.”
“Mean?”
“Yeah, he yells and-and one time he pushed me into the tiny table in the tv room and it really hurt.” You explained, not really understanding your situation but something clicked in the police officer’s eyes. “But a lot of the time he gets sleepy from the bottles of smelly juice and the needles.”
The police officer nodded, and looked down the road in the direction you pointed out where you live. There is a long silence as you shifted on your tiny feet, not really knowing what was going on. Then the police officer turned to you and smiled, his eyes warm as they looked at you.
“What’s your name, sweetheart?” He asked.
“Y/F/N Y/L/N.”
“Well Y/N, my name is Officer Hank Voight. How would you feel about riding in a police car and seeing a real police station?”
For the first time since he found you, Hank saw your sad expression change into a huge smile, your eyes lighting up like the skyline on Chicago he loves so much. And he knew then that he was gonna help you out in anyway that he could.
                                                           ---
23 years later...
“Hey, Voight! You got someone outside asking for you!” Lieutenant Kelly Severide called out. You looked up from the cards in your hand and then looked around at your friends on Truck 81 who you were playing cards with.
“Who is it?” You asked, already putting your cards down.
“A woman? Says her name is Carla Jennings.”
Still confused, you got up and made your way out to the bay where the trucks and ambo sat waiting for action. Capp and Joe Cruz were sitting at the Squad table, looking up when you walked in and Joe pointed out a woman who was standing just outside the station. Her light brown and gray hair was pulled into a ponytail and she looked around jittery, her hands popping in and out of her jacket pockets. It was gray outside, another Chicago winter just started and soon enough the snow would fall down on the Windy City.
You walked over to the woman, her jittery motions stopping when she saw you approaching. A smile came on her face, and for a second you thought that you saw her eyes water a bit from the sight of you. “Carla Jennings?”
“Yes, hi.” Carla said, pulling out her hands from her jacket again. It looked almost like she was going to go in for a hug, but stopped and then held her hand out to you. “Y/N, right?”
“Yes, Y/F/N Voight. Is there something I can help you with ma’am?” You asked. Her smile that she had on before dimmed a bit when you said your name, but she forced it back on after you shook her hand and let go.
“Wow, look at you. You’re so grown up now.”
“Excuse me?”
“I-I just, I’m sorry.” Carla wiped away a couple of tears and sniffled, trying not to look away from you. “It’s just its been so long.”
“Ma’am, I’m sorry but I think there’s been some mistake. I don’t know who-”
“Your last name. It wasn’t always Voight.”
You stopped, and looked at her as she walked a little closer to you. You could feel the eyes of your fellow firefighters watching this interaction, then being just as confused as you were. “I’m sorry?”
“Your last name, it was Y/L/N. I’m right, aren’t I?” Carla said.
“Who are you? How do you know that?” You asked. Carla’s eyes started to water again, and she looked at you and sighed.
“Y/N, I’m your mom.”
You look at her, eyes scanning over her trying to piece together what she had said. You weren’t stupid, you knew that she was probably referring to your biological mother, not your mom, Camille Voight who raised you like her own and died of cancer. You had no memories of this woman standing in front of you.
“My mom died in 2011 of ovarian cancer.”
“No, I’m your real mom. I gave birth to you and held you and-”
“Left? You left and you left me with that man.” You said, your voice a little louder then before. She looked stunned, like this was news to her. “I’m sorry but whatever you want, I’m not interested.”
You go to turn away and walk back into the firehouse when Carla grabbed your arm and stopped you. “Please! Please I’m you mom, I’m your blood!!”
You pulled away and turned back to her, “No, you are not my mom. You are a woman who was supposed to take care of me and left me with a drunk of a man before my dad came and took me in. So I owe you nothing.”
“Is everything okay here?” Chief Boden asked, finally walking over to the two of you and trying to catch your eye.
“Yeah, everything is fine. We’re done here.” You said as you took one last look at Carla and walked back towards the house. Herrmann tried to stop you but you walked past everyone and straight into Boden’s office, sitting down and waiting for him to come back inside. The anger you felt before in front of that woman started to settle down, and overwhelming emotions of loathing, sadness, and abandonment bubbled up until you were trying to hold back sobs. The office door opened and Chief Boden, and Lieutenants Casey and Severide walked in, all three circling you in worry.
“Y/N, what happened?” Severide asked, slowly putting a hand on your back and rubbing it up and down. Your crying started to subside, and once you got to a point where you were just sniffling and whipping tears away, you finally looked up to the three men around you.
“Um, so that was my biological mother. And... I haven’t seen her since I was maybe 3?” You explained. You turned to Chief Boden and took a deep breath. “Is there any way I could clock out early? I-I need to see my dad.”
“Of course, you shouldn’t be working with this going on anyway. Take a couple days and come back with a clear mind.”
“Yes sir. Do you mind if I wait inside until she is gone? I feel like she might still be out there waiting for me.”
“How about we drop you off at the 21st?” Casey said, then turning to Boden, “We’ll have our radios on in case there is a call.”
Boden looked at you then nodded, “Go.”
“Thanks Chief.” You said, getting up and patting both Casey and Severide on the shoulders before passing them and heading towards the locker room to change. Your mind was racing as you got out of your work clothes, memories of what felt like a past life, waking up with beer and condiments in the fridge, hand-me-down clothes from the family 2 houses down that felt bad for my situation, but said nothing. Once the image of the red-hungover eyes and gnarled and matted hair came into your mind, you shut your locker, snapping yourself back into the present.
                                                         ---
Once everyone was on 81, the truck headed off into the city to your dad’s district. It was silent as the truck stopped at lights and turned corners, finally you got to the 21st and was about to jump out of the truck when Lieutenant Casey called out to you. “Yes, Lieutenant?”
“I hope you’re able to work everything out.”
You sent a small smile his way, thanked him and jumped out. “See you guys later.”
“See you around, kid!” Herrmann yelled just as the truck took off back to the house. Turning, you started walking towards the station, the patrolmen mingling with others on the steps outside. Once you got in, you saw Sargent Trudy Platt manning the desk as usual and that put a small smile on your face. Trudy was always funny and nice to you growing up, and she treated you almost like a daughter. When she saw that you walked in, and by how observant she is probably catching your puffy face and red eyes, concern completely took over her stature.
“What is it? What happened?” She asked, coming around her desk and over to you, rubbing your arms comfort.
“Is my dad here? I just need to talk to him about something.”
“He’s out right now with Olinsky right now, but I think he’ll be back soon. You sure you don’t want to talk about it?”
“Maybe later,” You said, taking a deep breath and shrugging, “I want to talk dad first.”
Trudy took a second before nodding, “I’ll buzz you up so you can wait in his office.”
“Thanks, Trudy.” You said as she gave your arm a gentle squeeze and walked back to your desk.
“You know you are the only person that I can tolerate, Y/F/N Y/M/N.” Trudy called out. She and Alvin Olinsky, your dad’s best friend, were the only two who got into the habit of calling you by your first and middle name. Instead of it feeling like you were in trouble like it would when you were a kid, it was always met with love. You were just about to start walking up the stairs to head into Intelligence when a male voice called out.
“Y/N? Y/F/N Y/L/N?” You froze, that voice immediately sending anxiety through you like a bucket of cold water. You slowly turned around and found a man trying to stand up from a bench, but was handcuffed to it. He looked exactly the same as he did when you were 8, exactly from when you would see him in your nightmares after moving in with the Voights. His hair was matted and looked unwashed, his eyes red and teeth yellow, and even from how far you were from him, you could smell beer wafting off him. “It is you. Where’ve you been, girl?”
“Danny.” You said, trying to keep your cool. You could see that Trudy had picked up the phone and was whispering something into it, you only catching your name and “get here now”.
“Danny? What happened to dad, huh?”
“You stopped being my dad the minute I left that hellhole called a house.”
“Sorry darlin’, but that’s not how gen-et-tics works. You’re my kin and I will always be a part of you no matter who raises you.”
“Shut up.” You yelled. Others in the station were watching your interaction, you even heard the gate open at the top of the stair and figured that whoever was up at Intelligence came down to see what was wrong.
“Oh, don’t like that now do you? You can try and hide where you came from and clean yourself up, but you will always be Y/F/N Y/M/N Y/L/N, and you will follow in your families footsteps. You’ll either leave like that junkie-whore mama of yours, or you’ll end up like your dear-ol’-daddy.” He smirked as you started shaking, him noticing your reacting and smirking more, “You can’t run from what you’re made of.”
Just as he said that, Hank and Alvin Olinsky rushed into the building, Hank noticing you and turning to Danny who looked like he just won something. “Get him out of here.” Hank said, pointing to a patrolman near Danny. As the officer uncuffed Danny from the bench and recuffed his hands together, he started yelling.
“Ha! Now you got your crooked cop to come and save the day! Just like when you were a kid!” Danny started putting up a fight with the officer, trying to stay in the area, then turned to Hank, “You can take her and gussy her up, but trash is still trash.”
“Get him out of here!!” Hank yelled again, and two more officers ran over and finally took Danny out of the space. You were still staring at where he was when you felt a hand on your arm and harshly flinched.
It was just Hank, and he frown at your reaction to him, not seeing that happen since you first came to live with him and Camille. “Hey, lets go upstairs.”
You nodded, and the two of you walk up to the Intelligence Unit, you can feel the people downstairs all watching after that spectacle. Once you were both safely in Hank’s office, you both sat down in the chairs in front of his desk, Hank’s eyes still on you as you avoid his.
“Why aren’t you at the firehouse?”
“After what just happened, you won’t believe me if I told you.”
After a few seconds of silence, you finally looked up at your dad, and he gave you a look you remember a lot from your childhood with him. It basically said, ‘try me’, which made you sigh and rub your hands over your face.
“This woman came to the house asking for me, Carla Jennings, and ended up telling me that she was my mother. My biological mother.” You explain. Hank looked shocked, him never even knowing your bio mom. “I wanted to come see you so Chief Boden gave me a couple of days to get my head straight. And then that happened.”
“Yeah, Trudy said he was arrested on a DUI that almost killed a little girl.”
“Jesus Christ.”
You sighed, hating that you came from him in the first place. You dropped you head into your hands as the information sunk in.
“Hey,” Hank said, putting a hand on your back and rubbing soothing circles, happy that he didn’t have to see you flinch because of him again, “Don’t you dare listen to his words.”
“Isn’t he right though? I was lucky to get out of that hell of a home because of you, but his and that woman’s genes are in me. Its a matter of time before I screw everything up.”
“Genetics don’t mean shit. Hey, look at me,” You looked up and he had a determined look in his eye, “You may have came from them, but their mistakes don’t rule over what you will do. Look what you have done without them here; you graduated top of your class in high school, and then again when you graduated from the Fire Academy. You showed all those sexists bastards that you are just as good, if not better, than any man on that truck, and now there is word that you might be up for a promotion to squad?”
“What?” You said, shocked with the information.
“Boden called me last week saying that you had been taking the classes needed to get on rescue squad? And because you are amazing and smart and strong, there was word from the higher ups that you might get that open spot on Squad 3 as the first woman in the Chicago Fire Department history to be admitted to rescue squad.” Hank explained. You started to smile as some tears escaped out of a mix of happiness, confusion and some residual feelings from what had happened earlier today. “They’re just finalizing some things but they’re going to announce it at the Fireman’s Ball later this month.”
“Oh my god.”
“And you did that all without them. They had no say on these things, and they will not have say on the rest of your life.” Hank said, pulling you into a hug. The two of you hugged for a while, your tears subsiding as you basked in the feeling of love you were getting from your dad.
“Thanks dad.” You said as you finally pulled away. He smiled and patted the top of your head, sneaking a kiss into your hairline while he was at it. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Goose. Taking you in was the best decision I ever made.” He said, making you smile wider than you were before. A beat of silence passed before there was a knock on the door and Alvin came in, his eyes bouncing from you to Hank in worry.
“Everything okay in here?”
“Yeah, I’m okay. Thanks Uncle Alvin.”
“Yeah, no problem kid.” He said, smiling at you and messing up your hair before turning back to Hank, “Ander’s girlfriend was picked up, she’s in interrogation.”
“Okay, I’ll be there in a minute.” Hank said, turning back to you as Alvin leaves.
You turn back to your dad and smile, “Can I stay in here? I kind of don’t want to go back to my apartment right now just in case that Carla woman knows where I live.”
“Yeah, take a nap on the couch in you want. We’re winding down with this case so when we’re done, you and me can go grab some dinner and we can talk about getting a restraining order on this lady.” Hank said. You were about to argue but you knew he was right. So you you nodded as Hank stood up and left one last kiss on your head before heading out of his office. “I love you.”
“I love you too. Be careful.”
Hank turned just as he was passed the doorway and smirked, “I’m always careful.”
“Oh-kay.” You said, sarcasm in your voice as you could hear your dad chuckle then head towards the interrogation rooms.

“Ethan! Breakfast is ready!” I call out into the living room where my 4 year old son was sitting. I then headed back into the kitchen to set the table, and as I put the last plate on the table, Ethan ran into the room. “Would you go and get your dad for me?” Ethan nodded eagerly and left the room, returning a bit later with his father, and my husband, Kelly Severide.
“Something smells good,” Kelly mumbled and pecked my lips quickly.
“Mommy made pancakes,” Ethan squealed. “I love pancakes!”
“I put extra chocolate chips in yours, just how you like it,” I say and ruffle the little boy’s hair. Ethan grinned widely and took his seat, pouring a boatload of syrup on top of his pancake.
“Slow down there. You’re going to drown the pancakes,” Kelly pointed out and sat down. I took the last seat at the table and ate my pancake slowly, careful not to make myself sick. The past few weeks, I hadn’t been feeling too well, but I kept it hidden from Ethan, and especially Kelly, because I didn’t want them to worry.
“All right Ethan. We’ve got the day off. What do you want to do today? We can go to the zoo, the aquarium, downtown,” I list.
“I want to go to the firehouse!” Ethan cheered and shoved a huge piece of pancake into his mouth.
“Buddy, you’ve been to the firehouse dozens of times,” Kelly said.
“But I love the firehouse. Can we go there? Please,” Ethan begged. I looked over at Kelly, who shrugged. If he didn’t care, then I didn’t either.
“I guess we could stop by for a little bit,” I state. Ethan’s smile grew larger, and he shoveled more and more pancake into his mouth. The rest of breakfast was pretty silent, and after we had all finished eating, Ethan shot out of his chair.
“I’m ready to go now,” Ethan chirped.
“Ethan, it’s 8 o’clock in the morning. We’re not going over this early. We’ll stop by after lunch,” I tell him.
Ethan sighed. “Fine.” The few hours following breakfast were very relaxing. I watched a bit of TV, did some chores around the house, and played a few games with Ethan. It was nice taking days off. Kelly and I were always on the same shift, meaning we didn’t see him for 24 hours at a time. He stayed with my parents on those days. So every now and then, Kelly and I would take a shift off and spend some time with Ethan. After lunch, Ethan was practically bouncing off of the walls. He was so excited to go to the firehouse even though he’d been there dozens of times. Once the three of us were ready, we all climbed into the car and drove off. It didn’t take us long to get to the firehouse, and as soon as Kelly parked the car, Ethan was trying to climb out of his car seat. And right as we got to the door of the firehouse, Ethan spotted one of his favorite people in the entire world. “Uncle Herrmy!” Ethan shouted and ran towards the older man, who caught the little boy in his arms.
“Hey kiddo. I didn’t know you’d be coming over today,” Herrmann said.
“We told him that he could pick anywhere to go, but he wanted to come here,” I confess.
“You’ve got a junior firefighter on your hands,” Herrmann claimed.
Kelly shook his head, a small smile on his lips. “We’ll see about that. Come on, Ethan. Lets go say hi to Capp and Tony.” Ethan nodded and hopped out of Herrmann’s arms to follow his father.
“Ethan’s a good kid. You guys raised him well,” Herrmann told me.
I smiled. “Thanks. It was more my mom and dad then us, but I’d really like to change that. I want to spend more time with him.”
“I’m sure if you asked Boden for some more time off, he wouldn’t say no,” Herrmann spoke.
“Yeah. Maybe I’ll take you up on that offer,” I admit. Herrmann smiled and gave me a pat on the shoulder before making his way into the back half of the firehouse. I then walked over to where Kelly and Ethan were at the Squad table and joined in on the conversation. About half an hour later, it was time for the shift to have lunch, but because we already ate, Kelly, Ethan and I just joined them and didn’t take any food. As Kelly talked with Matt, and Ethan was busy playing rock paper scissors with Sylve, I was consumed with my thoughts. I had been meaning to tell everyone something recently, but I couldn’t seem to find the time. But now, since we were all together, and because Ethan was here, now seemed as good of a time as any. I got out of my seat and made my way to the front of the room, which didn’t go unnoticed.
“What are you doing?” Kelly asked me.
“I’ve uh, I’ve got an announcement to make,” I answer. “These past few weeks, a few of you have commented saying that I looked sick, and I blew you guys off. And then there’s the fact that I’ve been on Ambo 61 instead of Truck 81, and most of you questioned that, but I didn’t give you an answer. Now I’m ready to. The reason for both of those things is because I’m pregnant.” Sylvie was the first person to react, and she clapped before standing up to come and give me a hug. And then, as the rest of the firehouse congratulated me, Kelly pulled me in for a big hug.
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me,” Kelly said.
“I was waiting for a good time. We’ve been so busy between work and hanging out with Ethan that I didn’t really think about,” I tell him. Just then, Ethan ran over and hugged my legs, a huge smile on his face.
“I’m going to have a sibling?” Ethan asked happily.
Kelly ruffled his hair. “Yeah, bud. You’re going to have a sibling.”
“Yay!” Ethan cheered. “How long do I have to wait?”
“Seven more months, give or take,” I reply. “But don’t worry. It’ll go by faster than you think it will.”

she's her daddy's girl, her momma's world - chapter 13
Tumblr media
now you see me, now you don't
hide and seek in the firehouse; what can go wrong?
Read on AO3
From the outside of Firehouse 51, things were calm but inside those brick walls things were anything but.
Capp quickly walked back into the common room. “Where is she?!”
“I don’t know!” Tony answered, entering the room. “You and Gallo were supposed to be watching her!”
“We were playing hide and seek! Watching means cheating!”
Cruz stood by the TV, his arms crossed over his chest as he watched his teammates tear through the common room and briefing room over and over again. Gallo had even opened and looked through all the snack cages, despite being able to see through them. “Severide is going to kill you.”
“Yeah, and I’m going to bring you back so Stella can have a turn.” Brett announced from her spot at the table next to Violet. “I can’t believe you lost my goddaughter!”
Gallo sighed and came to stand in the middle of the room. Suddenly an idea came to him and he smiled, snapping his fingers. “Does anyone have anything with Maya’s scent on it? Maybe we can get Tuesday to track her?”
“Dude,” Ritter sighed, exasperated. “Are you for real?”
Gallo shrugged, helplessly.
“Please tell me you at least shut the bay doors to keep her in the firehouse.” Violet questioned.
Capp and Gallo looked at each other, horrified. Their eyes grew huge, and they ran out of the common room to check, only to run straight into Mouch and Herrmann.
“Where are you two going?” Herrmann asked.
“Have you two been out here a while?" Gallo asked. There was an almost desperate tone to his voice.
"Yeahhhhh," Mouch answered curiously. “Why?”
“You didn’t happen to see Maya run out here, did you?”
“You lost Maya?” Herrmann asked, indignant.
“We didn’t lose her,” Capp argued. “We’re just
. playing hide and seek and she’s really good at hiding.”
Herrmann rolled his eyes then shared a disbelieving look with Mouch. The two older firefighters turned to look back at their teammates.
“So you lost her.” Mouch clarified.
“Fine! Yes, we lost her,” Gallo groaned out in frustration. “Now will you please answer the question? Did you see Maya run out here?”
“We were out on the apron the entire time and Maya never came outside,” Herrmann finally answered. “So wherever she’s hiding, she’s still in the firehouse.”
Their answer got a sigh of relief from everyone, not just the two firefighters responsible for the current situation.
When Maya’s babysitter Sadie stopped by the station earlier that day with Maya, everyone assumed they were just there for a visit. It wasn’t unusual for family members, kids included, to visit the firehouse but this visit was different. Sadie seemed stressed and, after a quick conversation with Stella and Severide, she left without Maya.
Stella, with Maya, had come into the common room a few minutes later. She said Sadie had a family emergency and needed a few days. Stella sat Maya down on the ground and the one-year-old immediately toddled over to Brett.
“Kelly and I have to try and find another babysitter or find a floater that can come in and finish one of our shifts. Would you guys mind keeping an eye on Maya for a little bit? Now that she’s mastered walking, she doesn’t like to sit still anymore.” Stella asked her teammates.
They’d all agreed immediately and began taking turns trying to entertain the toddler. Cartoons and cell phone games only kept Maya’s interest for minutes at a time and it was clear with her constant squirming that the little girl wanted and needed to move around.
Gallo was the one to suggest they play hide and seek, a game Capp was more than eager to participate in. The two firefighters explained the rules to Maya, and laid ground rules of acceptable places to hide. Cruz had butted in and tried to tell them that the chances of Maya understanding the rules were slim but Capp and Gallo just seemed to ignore him, too focused on their game.
They turned it into a competition, though that surprised no one, and it only took two rounds before they realized Maya was nowhere to be found.
Capp and Gallo searched high and low, leaving a path of destruction through the fire house in their search for Maya. They eventually roped everyone else in to searching with them, checking rooms and spaces Maya couldn’t possibly even know about on the rare chance the toddler somehow ended up hiding there.
That’s what brought them all into the bunkroom, looking in closets and officers’ quarters and under beds and mattresses—every nook and cranny was being searched. The others had figured out that Maya wasn’t in the bunkroom just moments after they got in there and they were hanging back, just amusedly watching as Capp and Gallo frantically searched.
The sound of someone clearing their throat caused the two firefighters to stop their search and look towards the direction the noise came from. There, in the doorway, was Casey and Severide.
“Lose something Gallo?” the Captain asked.
“Uh no, not me Captain,” Gallo stuttered out. "Capp did. I’m just helping him look.”
The two officers turned their attention to the Squad member. Severide spoke this time, raising an eyebrow. “Yeah? Capp, what’d you lose?”
“Uhh,” he stumbled for a minute.
He struggled to come up with an excuse and before he could come up with one, Boden joined the group, followed quickly by Stella who had Maya, safe and sound, on her hip.
“Why is the firehouse a disaster?” The Chief asked.
Stella chimed in immediately after. “And does someone want to tell me why I found my daughter in the turnout room?”
Gallo and Capp stared at Stella, Maya and the others, mouths opening and closing in shock. The others were trying hard to hide their smiles and muffle their laughter at their coworkers’ reactions. It was understandable of course; firefighter Stella Kidd was intimidating when she wanted to be but mama bear Stella Kidd? She was terrifying.
Finally Capp spoke, breaking through the shock and pointing at Gallo. “Gallo was the one who suggested we play hide and seek!”
Gallo scoffed. “Well Capp was the one who was playing and not watching her!”
“I already told you, watching means cheating!” Capp argued, throwing his hands up in disbelief. “Does no one know how to play?!”
“Guys!” Stella interrupted, affectively putting a stop to their bickering. “You’re not answering the question.”
“I don’t know how or why Maya was in the turnout room. We closed the doors to everything to keep her in the common room,” Capp explained. “But closed doors and a room full of firefighters apparently are no match for baby Houdini over there.”
Capp threw a funny face at Maya who, from her spot on her mom’s hip, giggled. She had no idea what the adults around her were saying, nor what they’d been through over the past several minutes while looking for her.
Stella bounced Maya on her hip, drawing the sixteen-month-old’s attention to her. “How’d you get in the turnout room? Huh?”
“I no no,” Maya answered, shaking her head. She looked at Capp and Gallo, her honorary uncles, before turning back to Stella. “I win?”
Snorts of amusement and laughs from the adults filled the bunkroom. Severide leaned over and placed a kiss on Maya’s head and even then, there was no hiding the smile on his face.
“Yeah baby girl, you won.” Stella answered Maya’s question with a smile.
The toddler smiled and clapped her hands happily, causing another round of laughs from the adults.
Stella handed Maya over to Capp, the little girl going willingly. “We couldn’t get another sitter, but there’s a floater coming in. Can I trust you not to lose her again in the few minutes it takes for me to change?”
“We didn’t lose her,” Capp grumbled, but there was no heat behind his words. Truthfully, he was just thankful Severide and Stella took the situation as well as they did.
“Actually, I’ll take her,” Casey declared, stepping forward to grab his goddaughter. “Because Capp and Gallo have some cleaning to do.”
“What?!” Gallo and Capp called unanimously.
The others laughed, filing out of the bunkroom, leaving Capp and Gallo alone. Cruz and Tony both threw a ‘get to it’ over their shoulders, unable to pass up an opportunity to poke fun at Capp.
Once alone, Gallo turned on Capp, angrily picking pillows up off the floor. “I thought you said you checked the turnout room?!”
“I did!”
"Apparently not, because you would’ve found Maya and all of this,” Gallo exclaimed, gesturing to the cluttered bunkroom, “wouldn’t have happened!”
Capp huffed. “Hide and seek was a terrible idea.”

Communicating through eye contact in a crowded room - for Severide and Kidd 💕
Ok so fun fact: this is actually the first time I've ever written uniquely for Stellaride. I loved getting to write for these two! More Stellaride prompts are more than welcome, I seriously do not talk about them enough on my blog!
********
Stella mastered the act of subtly sneaking off with Severide pretty quickly when they first started dating.
Ok, so maybe subtle wasn't exactly the right way to describe them. Once they were together, they made no attempts to lower the volume or be discreet. In fact, making noise while they were in the firehouse seemed to breed very positive reactions from Kelly. He always was a bit of a thrill-seeker, she thinks, and she'd never really been ashamed of sex. (How could she be? No one could blame her after taking one good look at Kelly Severide and his piercing eyes.) But they were subtle in alerting each other of when they were in the mood to goof off and fool around-- in his quarters, in the showers, in the laundry room. Anywhere, really. They'd mastered the ability to quietly communicate their pent-up energy to each other and slowly slip away for some alone time.
This time, a wave of that pent-up energy hits her pretty hard.
She doesn't really know why. She's been on sort of a high ever since they got engaged, and ever since they'd pulled Severide out of that sinking boat three months ago. The relief of him being alright along with the excitement of being engaged could be enough. She's also been taking about wedding plans with Sylvie all morning, which is most likely the cause. Either way, come lunch time when everyone is crowding the common room and causing a huge ruckus to get to the trays of tamales that Gallo made, she feels the undeniable urge to slip away with her fiancé and jump him. Hard.
But there's at least a dozen people in between them, bumping together and scuffling to get to their food. When did these firefighters suddenly get so damn hungry?
Kelly's over by the island, she notices all of a sudden. From across the room, she can see him scooping out his tamales onto a paper plate and back up so he can let the rest of 51 have their share of the food. Cruz, Capp, and Tony are next to him, joking around and poking at his sides teasingly. He shoves them away, chuckling slightly. Something about it just feels so... him. Her love for him is constant, she knows that by now, but that moment makes it feel especially prominent. His eyes then move from the food, to the crowd, then over to her. That's when it happens.
She doesn't know what it is, exactly, but she's learned the exact change in her gaze that happens to let him know what she's hoping for. He tilts his head curiously, his eyebrow lifting ever so slightly as if asking for confirmation. She smiles, her lips arching more downward then they do upward as she gives a small, subtle nod. For a minute, she's worried he didn't pick up on it but then he starts pushing his way through the lunch crowd and over to her and she knows he's picked up what she laid down. Kelly Severide is all about wordless communications, after all. Sometimes, it's vague and confusing as hell but in times like these, it's their saving grace.
He finally reaches her, shaking off the crowd and then inching closer to her. He gives her elbow a small and playful pinch, grinning wide. "Hey there," he greets her.
"Hi."
"You called me?" He asks.
"Right, I was just wondering what the Squad guys were teasing you about," she starts, playing it cool. Severide knows it's far from what she was thinking though, and happily plays along with it.
"Just wedding stuff," he tells her. "They keep calling me Mr. Kelly Kidd."
Stella laughs through her nostrils, her smile growing even wider. "Kelly Kidd," she echoes with a chuckle. "I don't know, that sounds pretty hot."
"It does?"
"Uh-huh," she nods, grabbing onto his hand and lacing their fingers together gently. Her brows furrow after that, feigning seriousness. "Y'know, I think we should go to your quarters and test that name out. You know, so we can hear it without all these other loud people around."
He gives a sly smirk, nodding amusedly. "Definitely."
After that, he moves the entrance of the common room and motions for her to walk by. "After you, Lieutenant."
"Ooh, I like that one too," she replies teasingly as she walks by, already starting to kiss his cheek and neck as they stumble down the halls and over to his quarters. It doesn't take long for their CFD standard-issue uniforms to be ripped off after that. Quite literally, she should add-- Kelly's navy polo gets a slip tear in the collar from her excitedly ripping it off his shirt. He doesn't get angry though, just sits there and chuckles before laughing into the trail of kisses being pressed along Stella's neck.
And hey, if this is what a little glance in the common room gets her, then she considers herself the luckiest woman in Chicago. She'll take a fraction of those kinds of moments with Severide over a lifetime of anything else. Although, preferably, she'd really like it to be a lifetime of those moments with Severide. 'Til death do them part, right?

Surprise! (Chicago Fire)
Chicago Fire
   Y/N tries to throw a surprise birthday party for her brother Kelly but it seems like everything just has to go wrong that day.
Warnings: None
Requested = Yes
Y/L/N = Your Last Name
Tumblr media
“Hey, did you pick up the cake?” You asked Brett, your voice hushed as you managed to catch her in the halls of the firehouse.
“What cake?” Brett replied, her voice matching yours in volume.
   You felt your stomach sink, “The one for Kelly’s birthday?”
“Oh...” Brett grimaced, “Yeah...um, about that.”
“Don’t tell me you forgot,” You pleaded.
“Forgot what?”
   You and Brett stopped in your tracks before turning around to see Kelly standing there with an amused look on his face.
“Nothing,” You and Brett responded simultaneously.
   Kelly raised an eyebrow, “Okay then.”
   You gave your brother a quick smile before grabbing Brett’s wrist and hurrying away.
“What do I do?” You hissed, once you guys were out of earshot. “You can’t have a birthday party without a birthday cake!”
“I’m pretty sure you can,” Brett reasoned but you ignored her.
   You groaned, “What am I going to do?”
“Hey, I can maybe pick one up after the next call I get,” Brett offered, “On our way back to the firehouse just drop by a bakery or something.”
   You nodded quickly as you tried to formulate a plan, “Yes, that would be amazing Brett, thanks so much!”
   Brett smiled in return, “Of course, I was the one who forgot in the first place.”
   You thanked Brett again before hurrying off to find the others who you had asked to pick up stuff for Kelly’s surprise birthday party.
~~~
“So you’re telling me that everyone has forgotten to bring or even get ahold of what they were supposed to bring today?” You asked the crowd once you had gathered everybody in the common room.
   Well, not everybody...Cruz was trying to keep Kelly at the Squad Table so that you guys could have this meeting.
“Yes?” Capp replied, though it sounded more like a question.
   You took a deep breath and assessed the situation again, trying to figure out what to do from here.
“Alright!” You clapped your hands together, “I’m drawing a blank right now, does anybody else have any ideas?”
“We still have cake...” Brett offered.
   You sighed, “You mean the cake that Cruz dropped while bringing it in?”
“What if we just celebrate after shift at Molly’s?” Ritter suggested, “We can get a cake on the way and there’ll be drinks.”
“That would be a wonderful idea, except, practically everyone here has told me that they have other plans this evening,” You said and pursed your lips.
   It wasn’t that you were mad at them for having other commitments tonight, it just seemed like everything was just going wrong.
   First, Brett forgot to bring the cake. She was actually the one who originally volunteered because there was a bakery close to her apartment and she could get a fresh cake for the occasion.
   Then, when you thought things would be okay because she said she would pick up one on her way back from a call, things took a turn. Brett did manage to get a cake, but when she gave it to Cruz to bring in while she did inventory, he dropped it, right on the apparatus floor.
   Now, just when you thought you now had to somehow manage to get a birthday party going without a birthday cake, it turns out Capp, who was supposed to bring the balloons, forgot them.
   And Cruz who was going to bring the drinks (alcohol free of course since you guys would be on shift), forgot about that.
That wasn’t the end either...it just kept going.
“Maybe we can just postpone it,” Ritter tentatively proposed. “I mean, for a different day.”
   As much as you hated doing it, you were now seeing that you might now that you might not have a choice to do otherwise.
“Yeah...I guess that’s what we’re going to have to do,” You said, feeling deflated.
   You were really hoping you were going to be able to do something special for Kelly.
   You two were close, always have been, even when you guys were little. Two peas in a pod, that’s how everyone described you guys.
“I’ll figure out the details later and I’ll text everyone the new plan later,” You told them, “I need a nap right now.”
   Without another word, you left the room and headed for the bunk room before collapsing onto your bed.
~~~
“Psss, Y/L/N, wake up.”
   You groggily opened your eyes to see a smiling Cruz staring at you. You groaned and folded the pillow so it covered your ears.
“Come on, get up,” Cruz ordered, grabbing the pillow and pulling it away from you.
“What?” You snapped, the impatience evident in your voice.
   Cruz chuckled, “Just get up.”
   Getting the feeling that he wasn’t going to leave you alone until you did what he said, you tiredly swung your legs over the side of the bed and stood up before following Cruz, your eyes still half-closed.
   You didn’t fully realize that Cruz was leading you to the common room until you actually saw that you were standing in front of the room.
Except, all the lights were off and it was completely dark in there.
“What?” You were confused, “Did the power go out?”
“Surprise!”
   You jumped as the lights suddenly shot to life and everyone popped out of their hiding places.
“What’s this?” You asked, walking into the room, now fully awake.
“Well, since you’re always focused on me on this day every year, I didn’t want you to forget that it’s your birthday too,” Kelly explained, a huge smile on his face.
   You opened your mouth but nothing came out. Instead, you went over to your twin and he wrapped you in a hug.
“So, did you guys purposely forget everything?” You asked, “Did Kelly put you to that?”
“He sure did,” Brett grinned, “You know I would never forget cake.”
   Capp shrugged, “Speak for yourself, I actually forgot about the balloons.”
“Which is why we have everything for this birthday party except the balloons,” Mouch said and turned your attention to all the food spread across the counter.
Including a birthday cake.
“Awww, guys!” You looked around at all of them, “Thank you, this is incredible!”
“That’s what family does!” Stella replied, smiling at you. “Now, I say we dig into that cake.”
“I second that,” Mouch raised his hand.
   You laughed, “I think that’s the best idea I’ve heard today.”

Cant Love You Back
Tumblr media
*Not My Gif*
Because the song was stuck in my hand and apparently I am a fucking narcissist that loves pain so here ya go. @gottaboopthesnoot
There was a time in Kelly's life he was simply coasting through. He'd bust his ass at work then either go home to an empty apartment or go get drunk and go home with a girl whose name he had forgotten by the time he left her place.
That changed the day Chief Boden announced fifty one was getting a new addition. You stood at the front of the room as Boden introduced you. Kelly offered you his hand and from the moment you smiled at him he felt something start to flutter inside him he had never dreamt of giving the light of day.
You fit in as if you'd been a part of the team from the start. Everyone that met you seemed to be drawn to you, Kelly worse of all. He'd find himself scanning for you after a tough call just to see for himself you were fine. After shift would end he'd make any excuse to spend more time with you
--------------------
"So when are you gonna bite the bullet and ask her out?" Matt asked after watching Kelly follow you around like a puppy for two solid months.
When Kelly cut his eyes at him he raised both hands defensively "Just saying man. It's painfully obvious how you feel. I can't blame you she's a great woman and beautiful. I think she feels the same but you're her Lieutenant and she's not going to admit anything that may make her seem as if she's ladder climbing"
"That you or Gabby talking?" Kelly asked looking out into the bay where you were currently helping Gabby and Sylvie restock their rig. "Little bit of both. I'm just saying Kelly you've changed since she got here and it's not bad changes. Go with your gut. It's never led you wrong"
Kelly felt Matt patt his shoulder before hearing his footsteps walk away. Had he changed that much since meeting you? When he thought about it he didn't remember the last time he'd drank over a couple beer and he'd been content with an empty bed knowing he'd see you the following shift
You threw him off balance in the best way possible. You wouldn't blink an eye going into a fire but volunteered in the n.i.c.u. on your days off. You were a perfect combination of that fire he'd always crave and the peace that he desperately needed.
Hearing your laughter drew him out his thoughts and he glanced up to see you walking into the common room laughing about something Slyvie had said. When your eyes met his you smiled even further "Hey Kelly" "Hey Y/N can i talk to you for a minute?" The moment he asked Slyvie and Gabby shared a look then made up some excuse to be scarce.
"What's up?" You asked smiling up at him and Jesus christ he felt like a teenager with their first crush "You think you may wanna grab dinner with me sometime?" "Kelly Severide are you asking me out?" You questioned and he nearly blushed "Yeah?" You took a step closer to him and leaned up to leave a kiss on his cheek "good cause I am doing absolutely nothing Friday night and I have a new outfit sitting in my closet that desperately needs to see the light of day"
"About frickin time!" Both of you both turned when you heard Mouch who was sitting on the couch watching t.v. but it was apparent he'd seen your exchange. "Excuse me?" You asked with a laugh so Mouch shrugged "I had the two and a half month mark in the betting pool"
Your mouth fell open in shock and Kelly couldn't help but laugh when you recovered enough to say "That's it! I'm calling sergeant Platt!" and Mouch started backtracking trying his best to apologize but you winked at Kelly then ran off already dialing on your phone.
--------------------
Kelly pulled up in front of your apartment building around seven and slowly walked inside. Your apartment was on the second floor so headed for the elevator while he sent you a text that he was on the way up.
By the time he stepped off the elevator you were standing in the hall waiting on him. You were wearing black ankle boots with a black dress and a red leather jacket. Your hair was down in loose curls around your face and he'd never seen a more beautiful sight. "Wow" he breathed and a smile spread across your face "Does that mean you like?" He nodded quickly "Very much"
--------------------
The night went by too quick in Kelly's opinion. The two of you went to dinner and a movie then stopped at Molly's for a drink before he took you home. When he walked in with his arm around your waist it just felt right. Otis slid two drinks across the bar with a smile "These are from Mouch and Trudy"  you leaned back in your seat and spotted the two so you raised your bottle to them with a smile then turned back to Kelly "So Severide I was going to wait until you take me home but you owe me a kiss. I mean i technically kissed you first"
"Is that right?" He asked with a smirk that only deepened when you said "oh yeah definitely. I mean I've heard that you're some sort of ladies man yet all night the furthest you've went is home my hand or putting your arm around me" he cut you off mid sentence with a kiss. The kiss was gentle, barely a brush of the lips but when he pulled back a smile was on both of your faces "So does that mean this is going to be more than one date?" He asked and was answered by you grabbing the collar of his shirt and pulling him in for another kiss.
-------------------------
The first time you told Kelly you loved him was after a huge fight between the two of you. You'd been staying at his place more and more so he was on the verge of asking you to move in but it just so happened a friend of yours had stopped by the firehouse to catch up. That friend just so happened to be male and Kelly's jealousy flared up.
The night had ended with you storming out of his apartment slamming the door behind you. You didn't answer any of his calls or texts and when he came over to your place you opened the door long enough to say "Kelly if you care about me at all you'll leave"
The next day he was miserable walking into fifty one. He spotted your car and prayed you'd talk to him but you stayed close to either Gabby and Sylvie or once they left on a call you walked over to where Herrman was sitting and struck up a conversation with him.
A call came out for an apartment fire with civilians trapped. Kelly was watching you take your orders from Matt and wanted nothing more than to tell you to be safe before you went  in but didn't want to distract you if you were still upset.  You started to walk past him but stopped just long enough to say "I love you Kelly" then jogged to catch up with your crew who were headed in. He had just a few seconds to process what you'd said before heading in the other entrance with Cruz.
The moment the building was cleared you were outside helping roll the hoses up. Kelly had just got through talking with Matt and chief Boden when he saw you. He caught your hand when you bent down to pick up another hose and the moment your eyes met his he said "I love you too. I'm sorry i was a jealous asshole. I've just never felt this way" you rolled your eyes but the smile you had told him all he needed to know even before you said "Good because neither have I. I'm not going anywhere Kelly"
----------------------
You and Kelly were coming up on your two year anniversary. Your present had been sitting in the top drawer of his dresser for weeks. Gabby had went with him to help pick out what cut and style of ring she thought you'd like and of course she'd somehow managed to find out your ring size as well.
He had everything planned. Where he was going to take you, what he was going to say. The thing about plans is that sometimes the unexpected happens.
--------------------
The call had been simple enough. A warehouse had caught fire on the south side. You'd went in with Matt to clear the base floor where a few workers were trapped. You were following close behind Matt "Fire Department call out!" The haze of smoke was bad enough you could barely see in front of you.
You took another step and heard the crack right before your footing gave way. One moment you were falling the next you felt a sharp pain rip through your abdomen. You looked down to see a piece of rebar sticking out an inch above your navel. Your hands were shaking as you touched the wound trying to apply pressure but the slightest movement ripped a scream from your lips. "Y/N!" You could hear Matt's voice and knew you just had to hold on.
A moment later you heard him across the radio "Floor collapsed. Y/N's hurt. I need assistance" when his face appeared next to you the look on your face told you everything you needed to know about your injury. "Matt if something happens. Help Kelly please" you begged him your only thoughts being what would happen to the man you loved. Gabby told you how bad he'd gotten about Shay had been killed. You didn't want him falling in that hole. "Hey don't talk like that. You'll be fine. Your anniversary is in two weeks you'll be on your feet by then"
Matt's hand found yours and gripped it tight. You could hear voices and knew everyone was working their way to you.
Kelly was fighting to get inside to your side but Boden called him back "You'll be in the way. Let them get her out then you can ride with them to med" it took everything in him to not argue. The moment he saw Cruz and Capp emerge he ran to your side feeling himself weaken when he saw how severely injured you were.
"Hey baby" you managed weakly as he climbed into the ambulance next to you while Gabby worked to stop the flow of blood. "Hey beautiful" he said with a smile that was marred by the tears flowing down his face. Every bump the ambulance hit caused a grimace to flash across your face. "Kelly I don't want to die" you whispered right as your grip on his hand loosened and the heart monitor on you flat lined.
--------------------
"If love could have saved Y/N she would have lived forever. Love from her aunt and uncle who raised her, from her family at firehouse fifty one and from her loving boyfriend. Sadly fate as it seemed had other plans. We don't know why she was taken from us so soon and as we grieve today may the loving warmth of her spirit live on in all of us she held close"
Kelly sat in the front of the church staring at the photo of you that had been chosen. Those eyes he loved looking into that never opened again after you whispered how you didn't want to die. That smile that always made even his worse day better that he'd never see again. He never got to ask you to marry him. He never got to see you pregnant with his child. He'd never get to tell you again just how much you meant to him.
He'd love you every day for the rest of his life. If only he could manage to love you back to this world then maybe his heart wouldn't feel like it had been ripped out his chest the moment you took your last breath.

PAIRING:  OC XJimin/Namjoon/Yoongi ....Now how that happens..you’ll just have to wait and see

High school/Drift racer AU
Running Back Jimin-
Point Guard Yoongi-
Not soo “Mr. Perfect” School President Namjoon-
Wild child Cheerleader OC...
***They all drift on the weekends *****
SMUT/Humor..ish.../mentions of drugs/alcohol
**Written all in good fun, for purely nostalgic reasons...the men in question are grown as all hell IRL and that’s all that matters lol! So for this particular AU yes... strap yourself in and take yourself back on a ride for a NEW highschool experience! ****
4.5K
Based off my headcanons I made for this threesum..it will play on those “characters” IE...my version of an Americanized..non art school BTS!
***I paint a very detailed picture...aesthetic wise for all three of the boys and the OC
(STYLE wise) I never get into physical looks with my OC’s***
It was 7:25 in the morning, I.E too damn early as three cars eased in one after the other to the already full parking lot, yet for some reason there normal spots remained untouched. The school itself was a “school of choice” and often attracted people of all walks of life due to its exceptional sports program. Everything from a Range Rover to a rusted out beater filled the lot, the students just as diverse as the cars. A white BMW 430i, led the pack, followed by a sublime green challenger scat pack, and ending the brigade was a very well taken care of satin black 70 Chevelle, two white pinstripes lying along the hood! The threesum almost making a untentional triangel, ironically enough the BMW eased into the spot that read “Reserved for class president”. Not even giving it a second thought before doing so, yet, it’s the first day of school and elections havent even taken place yet. Presumptions for him to assume for the third year in a row he’d reclaim his title!
Black loafers graced the gravel, lying beneath a pair of light gray slacks, which were tucked into a loosely fitted cotton polka dot dress shirt which sat slightly unbuttoned. A thin black Gucci belt laced around his waist. Hair currently ash blonde, messly waived out of his face, while cat eye glasses framed his button nose. Was Namjoon Kim a TA...or a Junior in high school!? Were still trying to figure that out too, the tiny bud of a joint pinched between his fingers kinda answered that question though. Leaning down to rub the end against the concrete to halt the remaining smoke, giving himself a couple sprays of cologne before throwing it into his black leather backpack. Placing his ice capp on top of his car before popping his trunk..removing 4 bright orange cones...placing them on either side of his car..
“This motherfucker!!” The playful scoff, in combination with the most dramatic eye roll you’d ever seen in your life came from the one in the scat pack as he sipped on his Bahama Mama. A pair of Puma RS-X TRACKS laid on his feet,accompanied by a pair of extremely tight,distressed, dark wash “Copper 9” skinnies. With the way your school's star running backs thighs were set up you’d swear these bitches were painted on. Ya know... the amount of rips that laid along his thighs mixed with how low the white Calvin Klein V-neck sat..the combo would definitely be a write up if worn on a female student! Well... actually
. nah, your school was very laxed on dress code just due to everyone constantly breaking it and your principle basically giving up! Jimin's caramelized complexion glowing under the sun.. his dark wavy locks locks sat tucked behind a backwards red Supreme snapback! A set of rhinestone 2G plugs sat in his ears while an array of other piercing traced of the outer frame of his lobes. Arms and fingers, also coated in a menagerie of gold and silver accessories.
Lounging casually against the hood of his car, a smug smirk tugged on his pouty lips observing the way his best friend gave his car one more one over before grabbing his coffee, dropping his gaze down to his watch. The diamonds visible from across the lot... strutting his way through the brigade of cars as if he owned the entire school.
“Is he aware that when he does that dumbshit...it just makes me wanna fuck his shit up!? I've never been so tempted to kick a car in my damn life!” and last but not least..that growl came from the proud owner of “The Creeper” AKA the Chevy Chevelle
 lazily making his way in the running backs direction. A fitted black and white “DGK” baseball jersey draped his frame,paired with black skinnies to offset the primarily white jersey. His burgundy locks tucked under a matching black “DGK” bucket hat, all white Jordan 11’s dusted his feet. Of course the look wouldn't be complete without a “Tropical” Red Bull and his earpods wedged in both lobes..which essentially let you know he really didn't wanna be bothered. A helpful hint with Yoongi, wait for HIM to approach you...
Still trying to figure out why school couldn’t just start in November..or in layman's terms...during basketball season. Since that’s the only reason he comes anyway...just needing to keep his grades up so he can continue leading the school to their third consecutive championship. One of if not the best point guards in the state...you didn’t have to necessarily be the tallest to succeed in basketball you just gotta know your angles!
Sharing an all knowing smirk with the fellow athlete as the two of them coly strolled towards Namjoons car, casually kicking the cones one by one away from the premierter in the process. A gritty chuckle leaving their lips as they did so
 before nonchalantly making their way towards the building, “Well, aren't you sexy
” The words purred from Yoongi’s lips making Jimin’s head snap around, but the minute it did he already knew the point guard wasn’t talking about a girl per say. But a car, a royal purple Camaro that clearly had drag tires on it
.
“Fuck yeah she is
.” The level of arousal that dripped from there lips ...at the site of a car was almost comical, yet not at all surprising. Incase you havent noticed they all have a thing for cars..even Namjoon’s BMW. It may look like the car of a businessman but thanks to Yoongi and Jimin under his hood was straight fire! The car itself peaking interest as neither of them had seen it before, and considering the fact that they raced every Sunday night...they’d know if there was another drift car in town! Shrugging it off for now, already well aware they’d see the owner at some point in the day
.
The minute they entered the building it was just utter chaos, the school itself was huge, spread along three floors. Typically hovering a little under 2k kids a year between all four grades, it was clear as day who fresh meat was. The building clearly more than overwhelming as they ran frantically  through the halls, a combination of excitement and fear dancing along their faces! The pair smirking in amusement as they maneuvered through the crowd, unbothered wasn’t even a strong enough word to describe the two of them.
“Hey Park over here!!!” Jimin didn't recognize the voice, that shot through the air, yet he still adjusted his direction to follow the sound anyway. Not too surprised to see it was a couple underclassmen with cameras in hand. Probably on the school newspaper, or the yearbook committee...Jimin didn't care either way. You put a camera in that boys face and the charm goes on full blast! Quickly tossing the remainder of his drink in the garbage so he had freedom to ...I guess pose, suddenly this must've became a photoshoot in Jimin’s mind!  Eyes turning into tiny crestins as he smiled in the youngers direction, not hesitating to switch up his angles, poses, the stairs somehow became a prop...suddenly he was taking his hat off.......all he was missing was a damn fan!
“Yoongi you tooo
.” Words slowly dying off his tongue at the glare the point guard gave him in response. Though he ultimately ended up complying due to a sharp nudge to the ribs from Jimin.
“Stop being a little shit!” Growled through clenched teeth as he continued smiling and posing for the camera.
“How about you stop telling me what the fuck to do?!” Reaching up to give Jimin one hell of a purple nurple ripping a low growl from his throat. Triggering the first genuine smile and chuckle to leave Yoongi’s chest all morning, as he glanced over in his direction.
“You said you wanted me to smile
” An almost menacing tenor rang through his throat as he spoke, still grinning ear to ear, gums on full display .
“You fuckin sadist!!” Nudging him in the shoulder before both randomly deciding they were done with this little importue photoshoot. Heading back to their initial mission..Tv production ...or as Yoongi called it..an extra hour of sleep before school starts!
“OH! So what your saying is you didn't enjoy that? “ Brow arched at the implied question cutting him off with another one before he even had a chance to respond.
“So now the rumors about our star running back #81 being into BDSM suddenly aren't true!? You suddenly lost your pain kink!? How about a little breath play action? Choking? Would you care to confirm or deny this accusation Mr. Park!?” Shoving his Iphone in Jimin’s face as if it were a mic..a shit eating grin playing on his lips

The smirk that crawled up Jimin’s face at the sound of that should’ve already told Yoongi he was going to wanna kick his ass “Oh yeah, I fuckin love it ..in fact..your mom sounds soo damn good calling me daddy I just-” Insitnally cut off by Yoongi shoving him into the nearest locker, ripping a loud cackle from Jimins throat..laughing until he was almost weezing eyes completely dissapered into his face!
“Cool, I’m glad we decided moms are fair game this year..especially because your father travels a lot..I’m sure mama Park gets lonely...” Playfully wagging his tongue in Jimin’s direction earning a well deserved dual middle finger from the running back!
Stumbling their way down the hall as they, kicked, nudged and shoved each other in the process if people didn't know any better they’d really question the terms of their friendship! The pair finally danced upon there missing link, a combination of fondness and embarrassment laced along there face as they watched Namjoon network..or flirt..or both depends on perspective!
“Yes, of course I’m very confident in that and I think I did a very good job last year, and the student body will remember that..and hopefully vote accordingly when the time arises
”  Flashing the girl to his right his award winning dimply smile...nothing subtle about the way she damn near melted at the sound of his voice alone. Namjoon knew what he was doing though as his hand soothed over her shoulder. Eyes burning into hers, as he awaited her to remember how to breathe and close out her podcast recording.
“KIM NAMJOON!!!!” Squawked from Jimin’s lips..he didn’t even have to turn around to know who it was..just the simple stylization of his name alone let him know it was probably only one of few people!!
Glancing over his shoulder in there direction, ya know it’s funny..if you saw the three of them separately..you probably wouldn't assume they’d be friends. Unless your basing it solely on ethnicity, even there styles screamed different ‘Cliques” if you will. First you got Jimin who dresses like a...tendy, slightly boujee skater, Yoonig, who leans more towards “High end” urban street/lounge wear..and finally Namjoon. This boy either looks like he’s heading to a corporate meeting, or like he just got a Champs endorsement..there’s NO inbetween. Yet this threesum have been best friends since the 6th grade and wouldn't have it any other way!
“Yeah...were actually gonna make shirts that say “Daddy Joon for president
” so ugh look out for that merch coming real soon, I’ll slide the link on my Instagram..make sure you're all following me, it’s “ParkJimin81” in case your not
”
Tongue playing at the corner of his mouth as he casually draped his arm over the brunettes shoulder after shamelessly plugging himself .Now it was his turn to make this poor girl's knees go even weaker. Dropping his gaze down to meet hers not missing the way her body shuddered slightly at the contact. Or how her eyes zoned in on his cherry stained lips, a smug smirk tugging on his cheeks, as he slid his hat off, ruffling his figures through his hair. “Aeygo” left his tongue in response to how blatantly flushed the underclassmen’s face was before abruptly moving in Namjoon direction. “Alright playtimes over baby boy we gotta go!!” Tugging him down the hallway...
“Andddddd THAT ladies and gentlemen, was a free lesson on how to clout chase and be a hoe  with Jimin Park..he’s here 5 days a week..for at least 4 of the 7 hours of the day! But if you wanna learn how to do that thing where he looks like he’s going to rip every hair follicle out of his head...we can probably set up some private facetime sessions for like 20 a pop! Lemme know..Yoongi Min, manager and the only functioning brain cell for those two! Thank you!! ”  Extending his hand dramatically, dropping down to a sad excuse for a curtsey, bowing a couple times before tailing after his friends!
~~~~~~~
The boys managed to make it to the halfway point...they all had fourth hour together which meant they had the same lunch period. Which was ironically enough B lunch..none of them were actually signed out by there parents as they casually walked out the back doors. Not even remembering the last time they actually properly got signed out for lunch. The parking lot buzzing with students, during the summer months a lot of the time lunch was actually spent in the parking lot. Hints why there was one school security guard outside.. he wasn't doing much, though. Hell Larry actually looked like he was smoking a damn cigarette!
“Whoes car are we -fuck I knew it! I fuckin knew it” Swatting at Namjoon’s chest, smiling ear from ear compaly obviouslious to the current abuse. While Yoongi and Namjoon glared in his direction...
“Could you not abuse your president
I’m fragile...” Gently dusting his fingers over his pecks..
“Man! First off your the biggest motherfucker here! And if you don't shut the hell up about this damn election, you havent even won yet!” The phrase left Yoongi’s tongue with more bite than Namjoon expected, faltering back in surprise. Eyes blown out as he dramatically clutched his chest
“Alright FIRST off, RUDE!” Pausing to make sure there was enough emphasis on the fact that he was clearly offended! “ And are you doubting my skills Min Yoongi!? Listen I don't need this type of negativity in my political-”
“Oh for fucks sake!! Nobody cares about your damn election right now Namjoon!! Look!” Physically grabbing the taller of the threes head between his palms...turning it to the far left.
“On top of the hood of the Camaro..I told you little shits I saw her at the scrimmage!” Nothing subtle about the way Jimin pointed you out in the sea of cars as you reclined against your hood. Posing for a couple pics for Instagram with some friends, long story short 2 years ago your dad took a different job and you guys moved an hour and a half away. Due to the size of the school you transferred to you guys were still in the same division. So you saw each other occasionally on game nights or on the weekends and during summer break!. But nothing compared to bullshittiing and gossping all day in class with them, or actually being on the same team again! No surprise to anyone that you made varsity cheer for the third year in a row
“Troubles backkkkk
.” The words left Jimins lips sing song like as he gazed over in your direction, a cheeky little grin starting on his lips, before seamlessly shifting down the line.
“Well boys, I think Y/N deserves a formal welcome back..and who better to do so... then your class president, and two of the schools top athletes?” The grin on Namjoon's lips quickly changed from innocent to pure mischief as he glanced in his buddies direction!
Your LBD was without a doubt breaking every centimeter of the dress code, it looked like a standard cotton bodycon dress for the most part. But the very bottom flared out slightly almost like a skater skirt...which was currently playing “Chicken or go” with the wind! The leather chunky heeled booties didn't do much for that either. Only making your legs look longer and your dress look shorter, an oversized distressed denim jacket hung loosely off your shoulders. Finishing the look off with a pair of extremely tiny sunglasses so much so that they were actually useless..nothing more than an aesthetic! Hoops damn near the size of your head hung from your ears, hair half up, half down. A messy top knot sat in the middle of your head while the rest laid in loose curls..the sun catching your overly glossed lips and highlight perfectly as you posed along the hood.
Eyes zoning in on the pack making there way in your direction, you'd be lying if you said you hadn't already scopped them out prior to. The four of you followed each other on social media so you were well aware of how good purbirty was to the three of them over the past couple years! In addition to the fact that you guys weren’t necessarily super close but you were..comfortable if that makes sense! Naturally running within the same circle...so when you’d come down for the weekend, or summer break you’d still hang out or at least run into each other at parties!
You were always known for being a little bit of a wild child, the girl that was always down to cause a little trouble, and so where they..soooo it worked out! Only this time around, you got the opportunity to spend the majority of your summer abroad, so it was a bit of a surprise to most that you were coming back to finish out your junior and senior year!
“Well, well, why am I not surprised your all still connected at the hip?” A playful smirk tugged on the corners of your lips as the pack swarmed you, Jimin closing in first. Not hesitating to scoop you off the hood and into his arms for a hug, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“Hiii..” slipped past your lips and into his hair, as the sweet musky scent of his cologne filled your nose in the process. A slight squeal leaving your lips as he twirled you around before placing you back on the ground.
“Hii, welcome back...” He naturally carried a very warm tenor to his voice,not the deepest but it was effective, calm..inviting...intimate.You could damn near feel every muscle in his body when he picked you up. Puberty hit Jimin damn near perfectly..even though you’d never tell him that!
He was always a little..’thick” I guess you'd say,nice ass, thighs..and the cutest chubby cheeks even though he hated them! Now..he turned all that into muscle..still thick just toned..Jawline chiseled to the GODS, you could damn near cut glass! Like I said, you saw them damn near evrry sumemr, but it seems you miss one and now it’s like..FUCK!!!
“You missed us that much you had to move back aye? Or was Brighton a little too...boring for you?” A smile that was almost too damn smooth played on his lips as he glanced down at you. Tongue slowly grazing against his teeth,reclining against the light post adjacent to your car. Funny how it was a question yet his tone indicated as if he was telling you, you missed them and you moved back because you got bored...
“Meh, I don't know about all that, but the three of you aren’t the worst ammently this town has to offer so I won't complain. Also you already know..lifes far from boring if I’m involved...”  Casually flipping your hair over your shoulder as you shifted back along the hood of your car, eyes now zoning in on the other making there way in your direction.
“Princesssssss..” Namjoon sauntered over to you..moving past some random that appears to just be observing or taking notes...it hard to tell. Fuck, did his voice get even deeper!!!??? How many times is this boy going through puberty shit!
Taking in his frame from head to toe, a slight snort  leaving your lips at his attire, hopping off the hood swaying in his direction. Letting your hands play with the collar of his dress shirt
”You do know you don't actually work here right? And like this whole student body president gig means nothing when you drive off the lot?” Brow arched at the implied smart arsed question, a smirk playing on the corners of your lips as you watched him roll his eyes. Ripping a cackle from both of his best friends lips in the process.
“I’m soooo glad someone else gets it!!!”
Instantly whipping a middle finger in Yoongi’s direction without breaking eye contact with you.
“Aww Joon! I’m glad you finally pulled that thing outta your ass!”
“Yeah, yeah, fuck the both of you! Now give me a damn hug girl!!” A playful growl ripped from his throat,as it was his turn to scoop you into his arms. Giggling into the side of his neck in the process, eyes fluttering open in enough time to see  Yoongi damn near salivating over your car. Palm coming over to caress the curve in your hood, yes, there was something extremely sexy about how delicately he stroked the frame of your car.
“Hasn’t anyone ever told you not to touch something that doesn't belong to you without permission Min? ” Lashes fluttering in his direction, your tone of voice let him know you really weren't bothered
A smirk playing on the corner of his lips as he gazed over at you, still not removing his hand from your car though. “I mean ..yeah they have..but to be honest I don't really wanna touch...I wanna ride her..” Eyes locked with yours as he said it, you knew what he meant, he was a car guy, and right now he had a car boner! But he also knew what he was doing in the obvious change in tenor as he spoke
“Oh yeah?” Brow quirked in amusement as you sauntered over in his direction, Namjoon and Jimin overseeing in silence.
“Mmmmhmm...she’s sexy..what can I say...I’m a man..I like sexy
” Kneeling down slightly trying to see if there;s anything under the frame of the hood.
“Is he stock..or a tease?” This time the question came from Jimin, as he slowly started to circle the perimeter of the car
“Hmm..why don’t you find out yourself? Reve her up a little..she’s a big girl..she can take
” Wiggling your key fob in Yoongi’s direction. A cheeky grin spreading across his lips, which looked extremely wet right now....
“Shit, you don’t have to tell me twice, get it baby girl!!” Extending his hand to catch the keys
“You two are more than welcome..I’m riding shotty though, my whip, my rules
”
The pair didn't even have to think about it before hopping into the back seat.
The minute Yoongi revved up the engine and they heard how sweet your baby girl purred, a literal moan swept through the car. Triggering a gritty cackle to leave your chest “I told you she's no bitch!!!!”
Easing out of the parking lot, and making his way down the main road, which was essentially all rural, your city itself was initially a resort town. Downtown itself was huge but for the most part there's just a lot of trails, backroads, lakes,and land, a lot of land..beware of mounds of horse shit in the road during the warm months!
“Do you mind if I smoke in here?”
Eyes whipping back in Namjoons direction dramatically as if you hadn't seen him hit a bong at a party “Oh my god our future class prez smokes!? Shit, I might actually vote for you instead of actually running my damn self!”
The look on Namjoon’s face was utterly priceless, while Jimin and Yoongi damn near weezed
“Ohhhh shittttt
” Jimin’s entire body slouched into itself as he laughed until he was practically in tears!
“You would not
.” Tone blatantly daring taking on a more dominant effect that your use too! But you didn't care shrugging nochanaly in his direction.
“Aww what’s wrong Joonie? Worried because for once you might have some actual competition, or because you may actually lose!? But don't worry I’d make sure you were like my treasure or something ...”
Reaching over to grab the joint from between his fingers positioning it between your lips, if you didn't know any better you’d swear he damn near growled in response. Turning your head in Jimin’s direction who leaned down to light the joint for you. Taking a long slowly drag before pulling it back from your lips, coating the tip in the leftover residue from your lipgloss.
“Nah, not even, phased honestly go for it baby ! To be real I’ve been craving a little competition anyway...and don’t worry there will be no hard feelings on my end. I’ll still invite you to my celebration party at my lake house because I gotta respect you for at least trying!” Smiling down at you before snatching the Joint out of your mouth with zero warning, placing it between your lips. Causing you to blow the cloud of smoke dead in his face, eyes shifting into tiny slits as you glared back at him.
“Don’t fuckin’ tempt me Namjoon
” Tone taking a sassy turn as he was now testing your patience.
“Oh no I’m not tempting I’m begging..and I don’t do that often..please..please be a good girl for me and do as I say...and run for class president!” Intentionally taunting you as there was now an almost whiny condescending tinge to his voice. shooting you a quick wink before reclining in his seat.
A short scoff leaving your lips in response, hating how quickly he could get under your skin “ Oh don’t worry..I’ll be damn good for you!! Game fucking...on..Joonie...you wanna play we can play...speaking of
” Brining your attention to the driver's seat
“Min, what the fuck are you doing? I thought you wanted to ride her not babysit her...I know you don’t baby stroke the gears on your Chevelle like this. Show me what you got..put in work, I bought these tires for a reason sir!
Adding a purposely taunting tone to your voice as you glance in his direction, knowing damn well you were pushing his buttons. Observing the way his eyes glanced up into the rearview mirror, catching Jimin’s, the pair sharing a smirk before a deep slow breath left his body. Adjusting the grip his handheld on the gear shift, lowering your steering wheel and reclining his seat back even further.
“Alright kids buckle the fuck up, you heard her, she want’s it fast and loud....well.. daddy’s about to have a little fun
.”  Eyes shifting in your direction briefly..
“I’m waaaiiitingggg
.”
You could see Namjoon in your peripheral pulling out his phone, aiming it at the additional speed gauge you bought for the car since nothing under the hood, including the engine was stock. It legitimately felt like your body melted into the seat as he seamlessly alleviated for 45 to 60 to 75-to 90....before you knew it he had her purring at a solid 150 and it barely even felt like it!
“ FUCKKKKKKK YEAH!!!” Ripped from your throat once you felt him flour it, feet hammering straight into the floor! Going a good 4 miles, at full blast before actually approaching a more
”Civilized” part of town.
A loud howl ripped from Jimin’s chest as Yoongi drifted down a slide street that was actually a dead in...which lead to the parking lot of a roller rink. Purposely easing in sideways as your tires rutted along the concrete, cradling the wheel until he completed 3 seamlessly donuts. Still, hovering at close to 100mph before slowly bringing her down, gear shift by gear shift, all four of you starting at each other breathless in complete silence as your car finally came to a halt
.
“Holy shit I have to fucking PEE!!” Swatting at the back of your seat until you scooted over, almost onto Yoongi’s lap so Namjoon could hop out of the car. Passing Yoongi the joint in the process so he could finally hit it too now that he was parked.
“She’s fucking NASTY!!!!” Yoongi glanced over at you between puffs..placing the joint in front of your lips which you welcomed. Leaning down to take two more puffs, slowly inhaling a cloud of smoke releasing the remainderer through your nostrils.
‘Oh...” Leaning down again, causing you to lean forward thinking he was going to offer you the joint again ...but instead  “Welcome back by the way..you were missed..” Taking another slow drag before releasing a cloud of smoke from his lungs, concentrating the smoke in the direction of your lips. Reclining your jaw slightly, sucking in, recouping the remaining cloud of smoke . Fuck, when did Yoongi get so damn smooth!?
“Thanks, I’m glad to be back honestly” Clearing out your lungs a little before continuing “And thank you! I told youuuu..she’s  my little baby...a straight beast!” Chest swelling with pride, even though this wasn't close to half to what she could do.
“There’s a race...this weekend...Either after the first game on Friday orrrr sunday night...that parts still undecided!I think it’s too late for a buy in but...you definitely need to come...it’s at the trail down by Marine city.”
Nose scrunching into your face at the location...not too fond...at all..you hated the drive even on the bus for games !
You reaction caused Jimin to smile over at you , already well aware of your issue, as he ruffled his fingers through his hair. Slowly tailing his way down to caress his neck “You could always ride with one of us if you want-”
“Shit!!” Namjoon hopped back into the car slamming the door behind him, luckily you still hadn't fully shifted off of Yoongi’s thigh or else he would have crushed your ass! “I think I saw a -”
Before he even had time to finish his thought...a blacked out charger pulled in..unmarked but the sirens said it all
.
“Everybody out of the car!!”
THAT’S ALL SHE WROTE FOR THE INTRO CHAPTER!!! If you like it and you want me to continue with this fourseume..then “Like” this..leave some feedback and come hit up my ask box!
NOTE- IF I continue this..it will be a one shot series..as in it won’t go into EVERY detail of day to day life but have a main focus. I.E the first game, the drift race, the election, Namjoon /Jimin’s birthday ETC
I’m also still undecided on how the smut is going to work between the 4 of them. There could be an array of scenarios that take place as “smut” means any type of sexual activity, so that’s not to say she’ll go the full 9 with all three of them...or maybe she will...IDK!!!! LOL
NOTE- I know realistically they would be staggered year wise, but to make it easier I’m making them all juniors (If I add in the other boys in another series, Hoseok would be a Junior while Tae, and Kook would be Sophomores and Jin would be a senior)
ALSO- The boys are all going to graduate at 18 or In Yoongi’s case he turns 19 right after!
Love you guys as always,
Rocki!
Tumblr media
Since Albany is the stay at home parent, it’s he who is up in the small hours of the morning trying to persuade a toddler to use the potty.
Tumblr media
Still it pays off for him as he makes best friends with Ariel.
Tumblr media
And then puts her back down to sleep.
Tumblr media
The next morning he’s trying to work out when the last time he had any woohoo whilst sorting out his broods breakfast, surely it’s ben since Ariel was born? How are they to have any more babies, if they don’t do any babymaking?
Tumblr media
Hal thinks the slop Ariel is spreading all over her face is probably still more palatable than whatever is in the oven right now.
Tumblr media
Miranda had managed to sneak some of the leftover pancakes, so she’s pretty happy with her decision to get up earlier than was necessary.
Tumblr media
Whilst Goneril grabbed the last plate, she thinks it’s only fair since she’s the breadwinner and all the money that funds their lifestyle came from her family.
Tumblr media
Hal discovers his One True Hobby is Gaming during a quick chess match with himself before breakfast.
Tumblr media
The toaster pastries are done.
Tumblr media
And everyone gathers around the table to enjoy them as a family. Miranda has second breakfast, and tries not to laugh at her baby brother’s inappropriate conversation.
Tumblr media
Goneril heads into the office.
Tumblr media
And the older kids head to school, with Miranda holding everyone up until the last possible second she can leave.
Tumblr media
Albany messes around on the piano, Goneril expects him to return to work as soon as Ariel starts school. And so she wants him skilling as much as possible. he is planning on at least one more kid before that happens.
Tumblr media
Miranda gets home, with less than stellar grades.
Tumblr media
And Albany prepares an afternoon snack for the kids now they are home from school.
Tumblr media
Miranda picks up a part-time job. It’s not in the field she eventally wants to go into, but it’s a job her parents and Grandfather will approve of.
Tumblr media
Goneril returns from work full of excitement.
Tumblr media
And with a work colleague whose namer I don’t know. I think he must be an AL townie who generated before I got a mod to populate apartments with Townies, Downtownies and NPCs.
Tumblr media
Miranda heads off for her first day knocking on doors.
Tumblr media
Goneril does love her kids, she’s just not the stay at home type. Still it would be nice if she actually looked at what Desdemona is doing rather than staring off into the distance whilst she thinks about work.
Tumblr media
That’s better Goneril! Dangerous and probably very unwise, but at least you’re are engaging.
Tumblr media
Albany tries to get Ariel walking before she ages up.
Tumblr media
And Hal makes a start on his homework.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Desdemona wasn’t ready to give up her mother’s attention, so she asked for help with her homework. And learned to study.
Tumblr media
Miranda returned from work and got on with her assignments too.
Tumblr media
Goneril gets in some skilling before bed. At usual she’s the last one up.
Tumblr media
The next morning Miranda is on breakfast duty, which does not go well. Goneril is relieved that there are leftovers from yesterday.
Tumblr media
Albany is busy upstairs with Ariel, so he forgos the charcoal for now.
Tumblr media
Bathtime for a stinky toddler.
Tumblr media
And then she gets started with maximising her skill points.
Tumblr media
Skipping ahead a few hours Miranda returns home with an A+
Tumblr media
And a friend. Lilith seems very excited to talk about toys.
Tumblr media
And she’s pretty sure her family drama is worse than Miranda’s. I wouldn’t count on that Lil.
Tumblr media
Goneril returns home with a promotion to Vice President.
Tumblr media
And Hal comes home from school with a big smile on his face.
Tumblr media
Desdemona is a complete Mummy’s girl, and so it’s she who congratulates Goneril on her huge piles of money.
Tumblr media
Miranda is so happy to have made a friend who is removed from all the Veronaville feuding.
Tumblr media
Goneril gets straight on the skill points needed for that next promotion.
Tumblr media
But that doesn’t mean it can’t also be a chance to bond with her kids.
Tumblr media
Albany and Desdemona do some reading. That thought bubble is just perfectly Desie!
Tumblr media
Meanwhile Ariel wakes from her nap not at all happy.
Tumblr media
And Desdemona moves onto some piano playing.
Tumblr media
Now free of her crib, Ariel joins her sister in her musical pursuits.
Tumblr media
Whilst Albany learns about Fire Safety. This will become important very soon.
Tumblr media
Now it’s Goneril’s time to tinkle the ivories.
Tumblr media
There is not much time until Ariel ages up and I really wanted to get her all her toddler skills. Alas I forgot to check Albany’s aspiration colour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I have a very bad feeling about this.
Tumblr media
No! Do not give that poison swill to your daughter!
Tumblr media
This looks like it could go very wrong very fast!
Tumblr media
Meanwhile at the dinner table Alabny makes besties with first Miranda.
Tumblr media
And then Hal.
Tumblr media
The next day Goneril gets a chance card. Did I choose the right way?
Tumblr media
I chose wisely!
Tumblr media
More money for the Capps.
Tumblr media
And Miranda works on the charisma skill point she needs for work.
Tumblr media
Outside Ripp Grunt walks by and I send Miranda out to greet him.
Tumblr media
This proves to be a very good idea.
Tumblr media
With mere hours until Ariel’s age transition we give the smart milk another go.
Tumblr media
Looks like Goneril was in a good mood. Now for getting those toddler skills!
Tumblr media
Drink the milk Ariel!
Tumblr media
And it’s all too late!
Tumblr media
Ariel still aged up well, but wait what’s going on?
Tumblr media
Apparently Albany decided that Ariel needed to have her life in danger, the second she was capable of dying. Thank fuck he learned Fire Safety!
Tumblr media
Meanwhile upstairs Hal also ages up, alone and forgotten by the rest of his family.
He rolls Fortune for his Aspiration, but I seem to have forgotten to document his Life Time Want.
Tumblr media
Still he ages up very well. If not into a terribly in character outfit.
Tumblr media
Miranda carries on talking to Ripp, unaware that she’s missed two of her siblings birthdays and a housefire.
Tumblr media
A quick makeover for Hal and I send him and Miranda out to Stratford Strip.
Tumblr media
Miranda wants jewellery.
Tumblr media
Whilst Hal picks up electronics for himself and his big sister.
Tumblr media
And a computer game I believe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some photos to commerate Hal’s first night as a teen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then home for some makeovers, one more appreciated than the other.
Tumblr media
Ariel also has a makeover and she finally gets to play someonthing bigger than a xylophone.
Tumblr media
Goneril and Albany have a game of chess once the kids are in bed.
Tumblr media
It seems getting cerebral makes them frisky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But have they just made the newest Capp?
Tumblr media
You will find out next round.
Loved You Once, Love You Still.
Loved You Once, Love You Still.
___________________
Matt Casey x Reader.
Requested by: Anon
Could you possibly do #25 with my bby Matt Casey? xx
#25. "I still love her/him."... "Yeah, kinda figured out when I caught you both locking lips together."
Warnings: little bit of angst, small cursings, and yeah lol.
____________________
"Y/N? Guys, Y/N is back!" was the first thing you heard the second you walked in the fire house.
You let out a small giggle and watched as almost everyone made their way to over to hug you. "Hey guys, I'm back from my supposed sabbatical." you teased.
Kelly was the first to reach you, and just as he hugged you, he felt the roundness of your stomach, he looked down at your covered belly, he placed his hands on your belly, and looked at you in pure awe and surprise. "Matt's?" he whispered.
Hearing the name of your ex boyfriend, who you loved dearly, made your heart race. You nodded at his question, and watched as his face scrunch up in sympathy, you gave him a confused look, and just as he was about to say something, you heard him.
"What's going on? What's with all the commotion?" Matt asked.
Cruz turned to face him, with a huge smile on his face. "Y/N is back!" he said eagerly, pushing everyone out of the way to hug you, careful, now that they all saw Kelly touching you belly.
Matt's stomach fell, and felt a lump form in his throat when Cruz said that you were finally back. He looked at Kelly and then at you. You looked at him and gave him a small smile. "I'm back." you said weakly.
Matt just nodded, and stood there frozen, he had no time to react or say something, before Gabby strolled in, and decided to greet him with a kiss. Your face fell when you saw that.
"Y/N, so how was your sabbatical?" Herrmann asked, as you let him and Kelly guided you towards the couch.
You carefully sat down and gave them a relieved smile, and turned to Herrmann. "It was good, well I mainly took sabbatical because I left to take care of my mother."
"How's she doing?" Kelly asked, you froze his question, and have him the weakest small smile you could muster, but he seem to catch on. "Oh, Y/N, I'm so sorry." he said, pulling you in for a hug. From thr corner of your eyes, you saw Matt's stony expression, and sat next to Gabby.
"Mama L/N, is gone?" Otis asked him a small voice, you looked at him and nodded sadly.
"Yeah, I was gonna come back, but I needed time to process things, and not be under a lot of stress." You told them as you took off your jacket.
"What do you mean under a lot of stress?" Cruz asked.
You rubbed your belly, felling the kicking of your baby. "I had a scare in my first trimester, I put myself under a of stress when my mother passed, that I almost my little peanut. I was rushed to the hospital, I called Chief Boden and he said that I should take time off. "
"So Y/N, did you leave the baby father behind your hometown?" Stella asked, curiously.
You hesitated, but shook your head no. "Uhm, no, the baby's father lives here in Chicago." you replied, looking at Matt for a split second and turned to the others.
"How far along are you, darling?" Boden asked. You turned to him and smiled.
"Today mark seven months." You replied. "By the way it's a boy."
Everyone let out a small cheer, and walked over to you, asking if they can touch your belly, which you allowed them too, and giggled when Tony and Capp let out a small shriek when they felt the baby kick. The only two person who seemed to ignore you was Matt and Gabby.
**********************
For the next few weeks, you worked alongside Connie, helping her. Everything seemed so tense when she told you hand Matt papers that he needed to sign, and you also seem to noticed that his relationship with Gabby was also strained.
You waddled up to Matt's door, and knocked, looking down at the papers ignoring that Matt and Gabby were making out. "Matt you need to sig- oh crap, I'm sorry." you squeaked out.
"God did you even knock" Gabby snarled at you.
"I did, I would say I'm sorry to interrupt, but I'm not because I really Matt to sign these papers." you quickly replied.
"It's alright, Y/N, Gabby could you?" Matt asked, Gabby just let out a small sigh, and gave him one final peck and left without looking your way.
You watched her leave and you let out a small scoff. "I don't think your girlfriend likes me very much."
"Do you have a name for him?" Matt asked, ignoring what you just said. You turned to him in surprise, but didn't reply. "I'm sorry that I haven't stepped up."
"Well it's not really your fault, I didn't tell you." You replied as you told him where to sign.
Matt let out a sigh and looked up at you. "Still Y/N." he said. You gave him a small smiled and rubbed his back. "I'm sorry about your mom."
"It's okay." You whispered. Matt nodded and he finished signing the papers, you started to walk away, just as you were about to close the door to his small office, you felt a sharp pain on your stomach and then wetness, and then another sharp pain which made you cry.
Matt's head snapped up at your sudden cry and saw that water pool your legs. "Y/N, did your water just break?"
You nodded when you felt a contraction hit you. "Oh my god." you groaned. Matt quickly rushed to your side.
"Guys! Y/N's water just broke!" Matt yelled loudly for everyone to hear. As soon as those words left Matt's mouth, you heard everyone rushing over to you. Another contraction hit you and you gripped Matt's hand.
"This is your fault." You yelled as you gripped his hand even harder. You heard Matt let out small cry of pain, and heard Kelly let out a small laugh, so in revenge, you grabbed his hand as well, and gripped it hard, then you leaned back to who ever was sitting behind you to support you. "Shut up Kelly."
Matt let out a small chuckle and the others joined, around you. "Y/N, have you been having small pains before?" Sylvie asked, you nodded and started taking deep breathes in. She just nodded and Gabby rushed in.
After that, everything seemed to blur by, Kelly and Matt both help you on the gurney so Gabby and Sylvie can take you to the hospital. Matt was about to leave when you held his hand tighter, and send him a pleading look not to leave you.
His eye's soften up, and joined Sylvie in the back while Gabby sped off to the hospital, not once did he leave you, Matt held your hand as you delivered your baby, muttered words on encouragement, cried
when he heard the baby cry, and cried when you gave him the chance to name your son. After a while, the nurse took Y/S/N.
"Thanks Y/N, for letting me take part of your kid's birth." Matt whispered to you. You looked in Matt's eyes and nodded.
"I know you're still with Gabby, we can have a joint custody." you whispered weakly.
Matt just stared at you for the longest time, when suddenly, he leaned down and kissed you, for a bit you laid there frozen, until you finally started to kiss back, Matt leaned more closer as he could, to cradled your face, so he can kiss you even deeper, you let out a small moan.
"Hey mom- oh crap!" Kelly's voice rang.
Matt quickly pulled away, he looked at you with an amused smiled, but soon dropped when he noticed that Gabby was also there, letting out a sigh, Matt left to talk to Gabby, while Kelly walked over.
"So that kiss huh." Kelly teased.
"Shut up Kelly." you whined. Kelly chuckled, you let out a small sigh, and relaxed back in the bed. "I still love him."
"Yeah, kinda figured out when I caught you both locking lips together." Kelly said, smiling at you. "And he still loves you too, I think he just got with Gabby to try and move on, but I can see he couldn't."
"He looks happy with her." You said.
"But he's more happier with you, Y/N." Kelly replied. "You're the one he wanted to build a future with, a home with, have kids with."
You smiled softly at him, and let out yawn. You closed your eyes and began to drift, before you fell asleep, the last thing you heard was the door opening, and Matt say. "Loved you once, and love you still Y/N, this time, we're getting our happy ending, we deserve.." That smile never left your face.
I was gonna make this angsty, but I was like naaah lol.
Dangerous Woman
Tumblr media
Pairing: Agent!Y/N/!Military!Michael
Rating: All
Request: No
Words: 2.500+
Summary: Living the double life, Agent Y/N and military Michael are married together but do not know know they secretly beat each other’s asses every single night.
“Hey honey. I won’t be home tonight, there’s leftover lasagna on the kitchen counter in case you’re hungry and if you need me just leave a leave a text.”
Your phone was pressed between your shoulder and ear but even if your attention was supposed to be put on the phone, your eyes were glaring somewhere else.
Your boots were echoing in the dark hallway and you had to squeeze your eyes to find the only source of light. It was far away and streaking under a door that was closed and most probably locked.
“I love you. See ya.” You lifted up to take the phone away from your ear and hung up with one press with your thumb.
“It’s showtime.” You whispered and ran your hand through your hair to pull it up into a high ponytail.
There was nothing that was gonna prevent you from finishing the mission that was set for tonight.
Noises were loud once you came inside of the large building, it definitely wasn’t the quiet zone. You reached down to grab the gun that was attached to your belt and with one second turned around by the sounds of people approaching you.
“Woah, watch out with that Agent Y/L/N you’re aiming it at the wrong person.”
An award winning smile came to your face when you realized who it was and with a hurried placed the gun back in its place.
“Agent Capp, Agent White, what a pleasure to meet you again.” You said as if it wasn’t just last night you had been going through the exact same thing as today.
It was like meeting your second family, seeing all the others standing prepared for the activities that were going to happen. It was amusing to all of you, you loved the danger and every single thing that came with it in the package.
You were standing on the top of a balcony, most probably one that had been used many years ago. The place didn’t look well cared and the silence indicated a storm was about to happen.
“How many will there be?” You asked and placed your hands on the top of the rack, black dust appearing on your hands but you brushed it away.
“We don’t know yet.” Agent White responded with furrowed eyebrows and looked between your colleagues.
“They say around 10 but you can never be too sure. This is a part of the military government and they can never fully be trusted.”
A shiver ran up your spine but it was in full excitement. The military was the best ones to fight, it was the ones you loved because it was never a boring fight. No one was ready to surrender already.
Since you were a little kid you had been a part of this. Your family was raised in the shadows of agents and what so ever, you had your own family but also spread between colleagues and bosses.
You had never actually been a fully part of the group as your parents wanted you to attend school. They said it would be for the better so you could make a greater career than they had done.
But it seemed as the apple didn’t fall high from the tree.
You could hold and control a gun already at the age of five and you witnessed your first battle at the age of seven. There was nothing you were scared up, on the contrary. You loved every single bit of the danger you constantly put yourself through.
It was all about trusting your people. Knowing that as long as you put your heads together you would all manage to survive and win.
When you were a teen it was officially where it started. Your parents didn’t have much to say as they still wanted you to be in school but they could tell your passion was set to be somewhere else.
It just had to be passed by in the family and you enjoyed every single bit of it.
At day you would be working at a coffee house as barista. The money was cut low and you didn’t get much out of it besides spilling coffee on boring teenage girls with lack of trust because of their social media addictions and skills.
Most of the time you just wished to be somewhere else. You could be standing behind the cashier thinking of how many ways you could blow the standing person in front of you’s head.
Not the most caring thoughts but you hated your job. If you could you would have done the exact same thing as you did at night but it wasn’t the slightest possible.
You were forced to live the double life.
It wasn’t that you were the full on innocent, you did have a big mouth. But you were ten times more lowkey when being in public and being a normal person. You didn’t want to stand out from the public and it was the reason why you had taken such a standard job.
You took a few extra classes here and there when you had the time but nothing of it could compare to the afterlife.
Once you were finally home you could relax but not for long. No matter where you went life would always be a secret, even for your closest ones.
It wasn’t until you were standing in the crowd of people surrounded by guns you could feel like you were yourself 100%. They all knew your secrets, there was nothing to explain and you didn’t need to kill someone afterwards.
“For how long?” You asked with a low voice and looked down at Agent White with a suspicious look on your face.
Voices had quiet down and you could tell something was about to come up. You knew what was waiting behind that old rusty wooden door that was situated right under the balcony you were standing on.
“It’s time.” Agent Capp whispered when he heard the faints sound of feet walking.
“We just gotta prepare then.” You said in a singing tone and leaned down to grab your gun. This was where the fun part of the night started.
“Two down, one per each person and promise me one thing.” Agent White announced to everyone right before the sound of the door opened.
“Don’t hesitate to either shoot or kill.”
You smiled widely and looked between everyone as the queue started. With one loud banging you could hear the vibrations coming from the door beneath and you moved down to the rack to point the gun between the fences.
Inside came a group of ten but you knew they were much more than that. Not something you weren’t ready to handle, the less the boring. This was just what you needed to cheer up and feel like living.
The green military colors stood out from the dull house and it was obvious to tell that they were armed. Some liked to fight with bare hands while others thought they could hide behind a machine gun.
“They want the thing before we do. They think they’re alone so this is gonna be the best surprise they’ve had in a very long time.”
Agent Capp leaned down in his pocket and took out a small grenade. Just by the sight of it everyone knew what was supposed to happen, it wasn’t something that was going to harm you just a little something to shock the enemies for a few five minutes.
“Surprise the government, isn’t that what we always say?” You asked with concentration in your voice but the smirk was growing.
Being unaware of the events happening above your gun was pointed right towards the head of a blond haired boy. Frame was tall and precisely in your reach but you waited just a bit to make sure you wouldn’t draw attention just from that.
“To the shitty government thinking they’re better than us.” Agent White nodded his head in agreement and everyone else nodded as well.
“To the government.” Agent Capp whispered below his breath as he let the grenade fall from the balcony and within a second the whole place was filled with smoke.
It was only a mix of a few chemicals here and there that created the smoke, nothing to harm but just to cause confusion and troubles with the sight.
You still had your eyes fixed on the blond haired guy as they all reacted with bending down to the floor. It was a surprise they didn’t expect anything because every time you were up against each other things like this would happen.
Only once they’d surprise you. It was a second of death you had almost pictured because if you had been standing centimeters from where you were your head would have been blown off.
“Sweet dreams, pretty boy.” You whispered and were ready to trigger the gun but that was when he moved around fast by everyone else, his shadows disappearing into the smoke.
“Dammit!” You cursed below your breath, when the victim was found you weren’t supposed to hesitate.
“I’ll take the floor. Just keep continuing.” You yelled over the loud sounds of gunshots and brought along two others to attack the floors.
You were sprinting down the stairs that were rotten and most probably not supposed to be used by the circumstances it had but god how you could care less.
If you had to fall through the floor it would be more successful than finding a victim and actually blow their heads off.
“Is that a girl?” Someone said as if it was supposed to surprise them that another gender was among them.
“I prefer the word woman.” You smiled like he didn’t bother you at all and with one swift movement hit him square in the face and let him fall to the floor.
“Idiot.” You rolled your eyes and that was when you spotted that blond hair that stuck out from beneath the thing he was wearing on his head.
“Success.” You smiled and looked over your shoulder to make movements with your hands and show where you were headed at.
“Cover me in case something fails.” You yelled and hurried around the mob of idiots that didn’t seem to understand what was going on. The smoke was still there but to a point where you could see the shadows of each other.
There was no doubt you wanted revenge after the last time you had stumbled upon this dude. You hadn’t been the one to pay fully attention and with one push he had managed to make a cut in your uniform.
“What a pleasure to see you. Not dead yet?” You greeted over the loud noises as if it wasn’t a huge thing that people were getting killed behind you.
“The pleasure is the same. Got a new uniform?” He yelled back but his mouth was muffled in the fabric he was wearing.
“No, but you wished, didn’t you?” You said as your final words before the fight actually started.
You didn’t need guns to beat each other asses no you loved the fact that a punch gave much more and were much more humiliating for a guy like him.
“Well let’s just say that should be the last thing to worry about.” He laughed when you forced your foot towards his unrecognizable face but missed.
“Exciting.” You spoke as the last word and used one of his military men to pull him in front of you as he forced his fist towards you.
“Oh I’m sorry,” You laughed when the guy you had grabbed was hit square in the face, “Seems as if you missed.”
“Not for now.” He replied back in a temper tone, he didn’t like when things were going as it planned and it was the reason why you always seemed to be drawn to each other.
No matter how many times you fought, you never seemed to actually end each other. It was like you enjoyed the battles it was with that and the verbal discussions you had during the act that kept you together.
“Aw you’re gonna spare me like you did the last time. It’s almost as if you don’t enjoy seeing me in pain.”
“Don’t be too cocky about that princess,” He said through gritted teeth, “Pain is my middle name.”
“Well you must enjoy it from a woman very much then.” You dryly laughed and pushed the guy out of your hands to continue the fight.
You leaned over to pull a wooden piece from the stairs and broke it into two pieces. It was only if it was really needed that you would use the gun and since Agent Capp and the others were on their way to get what you were trying to protect all you really needed was to distract the militaries.
He was aware of your action and rolled over a table to make sure you wouldn’t hit him square in the face. It wouldn’t be long from now until you could leave because the smoke was starting to clear.
“I only enjoy beating yours.” He spoke and bent down twice as you forced the wood towards his face but his reaction skills were just as fast as yours.
It was almost as if you were the same person.
“Oh yes, the only difference is tonight I’m not the one getting my clothes ruined.” You said and with a fast hand forced the wood towards his stomach, not in the way that you forced it inside but it gave a large cut.
His hand came down fast in reaction to the sudden wound and blood was starting to leak out from where the cut in his military suit had been.
“We have it! Get out!” Agent Capp yelled from above the balcony and you didn’t hesitate to throw the wooden piece from your hands with a laugh.
“Until we see each other again pretty boy.” You grinned and pushed past him to get out where you had arrived from.
It looked like a bloody mess and he definitely wasn’t the first one to be injured. Some were a lot more injured than he was, his only looked like a simple cut but it wasn’t what made him this mad.
“Michael, are you okay?” The first one was to yell once you were all out of the building and not ready to harm.
“Please.” Michael spat and removed the cover from his face.
“I’m fine, Ashton.”
“It doesn’t look like it.” Ashton commented and removed his hair through his curly sweaty hair.
Michael looked up at him scolding by his question, it wasn’t his wound that hurt. It was the fact he had almost gotten his ass beaten once again that never seemed to not impress. God how he hated it.
“That woman.” He spat again and ran a hand through his hair frustrated. He lacked concentration already and now he suddenly had to take care of a wound.
“She’s dangerous.” Ashton replied with a smirk, no doubt that he was just as impressed as Michael. He was just louder about it.
“Let’s get out of here before she blows up the building.”
Michael nodded his head in agreement and bit his lip not wanting to focus on the pain, how the hell would he be able to cover this up once he got home to his wife Y/N?
Are we gonna see how Beth's parents reacted to the fact that she has a boyfriend? If not, can you share how?
Beth tapped her fingers on the edge of her desk, her eyes looking anywhere but the laptop screen in front of her. This was a moment she’d really and truly thought she’d never have to go through and in part she was revelling in the novelty of the experience. The other half of her was waiting for the floor beneath her chair to open up and swallow her whole.
“Beth?”
“Hmm?”
“I asked if you’ve booked a ticket home yet. One of us will come pick you up from the airport, perhaps with an iced capp in hand?”
My parents sat on the grey sofa in their living room. It was evening here but there was still daylight filtering in through the open window behind them, an ocean and a continent away. It had been easy to put off their questions in emails but nearly impossible to do it in FaceTime. They wore matching expectant expressions.
“Harry and I are dating!” I blurted out.
The concept was still shockingly foreign to me so I couldn’t imagine how my parents, left wholly in the dark as to the progression of mine and Harry’s relationship, would react to the news.
I watched my parents exchange a slow look, my mother with her perfectly red lips, freshly home from work, my father with his shock of wavy grey hair and his laugh lines creasing his face. I missed them but not as much as when I’d first come to England. Things had changed. I had changed.
“That’s wonderful,” my mom finally said. “I know you’ve been spending a lot of time together lately. But when are you-”
“There’s something else,” I interrupted her. “I applied for a transfer to King’s and it was accepted.”
“Beth Marie Hartley! Could you not have spread out all your big news? You’re going to give your old man a heart attack!” Dad slapped his chest dramatically.
“That’s not funny,” I scolded him.
“Neither is waiting this long to tell us that you’re not coming home at all,” he pointed out.
“I’ll still come home. I need to apply for a new visa and I could use some more clothes. And I want to see you guys of course.”
“Oh, of course,” Dad sarcastically replied but his grin said he didn’t mind.
“Changing schools is a huge deal, Beth. I hope you’ve really thought this through. I know you and Harry are getting close but your education has to take priority.” I’d known my mom would take the news of my staying in the UK harder than my dad. Dad rolled with the punches whereas Mom took things more personally. We had that in common.
“King’s has a fantastic geography program which, if you remember, is the reason I came here in the first place. I’m not sacrificing my education by staying here. Harry isn’t the only reason I want to be here, Mom, I promise. If you think otherwise, you don’t know me very well.”
I held my breath while my parents exchanged another meaningful look. I was an adult who could make her own decisions but sometimes I still felt like a child with them. I could already hear the conversations between my mom and my aunts, the disbelief on my relatives’ faces when they found out their meek little niece was not only surviving but thriving in a place all on her own. I really had found a home here and it wasn’t solely because of Harry. I enjoyed my classes, my school. My friendships here were rock solid. I loved the city and the small portions that I’d seen beyond London. I liked my newfound independence.
“We’d like to meet Harry sometime,” my mom finally said.
“Of course,” I nodded. They both rose their eyebrows and I hurried to add, “He’s not here right now.”
Lie. Harry was upstairs, probably scrolling through the boxing news websites on his phone. I wasn’t ready to handle a parent-boyfriend meeting yet though.
“I’ll book a flight home in the next couple of days and send you all the details,” I promised.
“Okay.”
“Will you still bring me an iced capp when you pick me up from the airport?”
“Of course,” my dad smiled.
“Good. I miss you guys! I’ll talk to you soon!”
“We miss you too, Beth! Say hi to Harry for us, welcome him to the family!” Dad grinned mischievously.
Mom rolled her eyes. “Ignore him. Talk to you soon, Beth!”
One moment, I was driving home from work. The next, I was being t-boned by another car on the driver’s side. After that, I fell in and out of consciousness for a bit. Now though, I was fully awake, and I was freaking out. I could hear sirens approaching the scene, and I tried to focus on them, but it wasn’t working too well. My head was throbbing, and I could feel blood trickling down the side of my face. My side also hurt like hell, and when I tried to move, it felt like something was stabbing me. My legs were pinned beneath the dashboard, so I couldn’t see if they were hurt, but I could barely feel my left leg, so I was going to assume something was wrong.
“Y/N! Y/N!” Kelly shouted and appeared at my passenger window. “Don’t move, okay. We’re going to get you out of there.”
“Its not like I can move anyways,” I mutter weakly.
“Capp, find a way to move that other car. We need to get Y/N out of here,” Kelly ordered.
“Got it,” Capp responded.
“The guy in the other car, is he okay?” I ask.
“Don’t worry about him right now. Just focus on me” Kelly spoke calmly.
“Its hard to do that when I feel like I’m going to die,” I mumble, tears leaking from the corners of my eyes.
“Hey. Don’t say that. You’re going to be okay,” Kelly said.
That’s when I coughed, and my side exploded with pain. I winced and closed my eyes, taking a few deep breaths. I didn’t want to die. Not here. Not now.
“All right, Y/N, we’re pulling the other car away now. That way we can get to you and get you out of there,” Kelly explained.
“Okay” I murmur and cast my eyes out the front windshield, which had sustained some serious damage, seeing as a huge crack spanned the whole thing. I took another deep breath, causing more pain to arise in my side, but I ignored it and tried to stay calm. After a couple of seconds, the huge weight that was pressed against my side was lifted, meaning the car of the other drive must’ve been moved.
“I’ve got the spreaders, Lieutenant,” Cruz said and held up the tool.
“Okay. Lets get Y/N out of here,” Kelly told him. Cruz stuck the spreaders into the door, but as soon as he turned them on, an immense amount of pain arose in my side.
“Stop! Stop!” I cry out.
“Y/N, what’s wrong?” Kelly asked me.
“There’s something lodged in my side. Whenever you guys use the spreaders, you jostle it,” I explain through the pain.
“Get me cutters,” Kelly demanded before turning to me. “Y/N, I’m going to put my jacket up to block the sparks from getting to you, okay?”
“Okay,” I say.
Kelly held his jacket up against the side of my face, and I heard the cutters go on, but I ignored the sound. After a few seconds, I felt my side disconnect from the car door, and Kelly took the jacket away from my face.
“We’re going to get a collar on you, and then we’ll get you on the stretcher,” Kelly informed me.
Kelly took a collar from Sylvie and leaned through the missing driver’s side window, placing the collar around my neck. Then, as soon as my door was removed, and my dashboard was lifted a bit, Kelly carefully maneuvered me from the car onto a stretcher. Everything hurt like hell, and somehow, I managed to keep it all in, but internally I was freaking out. It didn’t take long to get to Chicago Med, and right as my stretcher was rolled into the ED, my older brother Connor was hovering over me.
“Y/N! What the hell happened to you?” Connor asked.
“Car accident,” Kelly replied from his spot next to me.
“All right. Lets get her to Trauma 2,” Connor said and rolled my stretcher into the nearest room.
“Connor, I can’t feel my left leg,” I tell my brother. Connor glanced down at my leg, and his face paled.
“You’ve got compartment syndrome. We’ve got to get you up to surgery right away to decompress that leg” Connor explained.
“You’re going to be okay” Kelly said and pressed a kiss to my forehead. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” I mumble.
The next thing I remember was waking up in a hospital bed. My left leg was wrapped up in thick white bandages, and my side had a piece of gauze taped over the wound I received from whatever was lodged in my side. I was still a bit groggy from the anesthesia, but it only took a few minutes for the rest of it to wear off. I glanced around, hoping to catch sight of a familiar face, but no one was around. I groaned and shifted in my bed, moving myself into a more comfortable position. That’s when Kelly entered the room with a cup of coffee followed by Connor, who held a tablet in his hands.
“Hey, babe. I’m glad to see that you’re awake,” Kelly spoke and took a seat in the chair next to my bed, squeezing my hand.
“I am too. I can’t have my baby sis dying on me,” Connor exclaimed.
“I’m only 2 years younger than you, and I’m not a baby anymore,” I point out.
“Well, you are to me, and you always will be. You feeling okay?” Connor asked me.
“My leg and side hurt like hell, but other than that, I feel all right,” I answer. “When will I be able to get back to work?”
“Man, are all members of the Rhodes family workaholics? Because it seems like you are,” Kelly said.
“We prefer to say work-driven. But to answer your question, Y/N, you should probably be able to get back to work within two weeks. Your leg looks like its healing well, and as long as your side is bandaged up, it should be good. Might I add that I did a fantastic job,” Connor admitted.
“Connor, your arrogance is showing,” I joke. “But thanks for saving me.”
“Yeah, man. Thanks,” Kelly spoke.
“No problem. You take care of my sister, all right,” Connor told Kelly.
“Of course. When we’re able to get back home, I won’t let her out of my sight,” Kelly confirmed.
“I’ll talk to you later, Y/N,” Connor said before leaving my room.
“Thanks for keeping me calm earlier,” I tell Kelly. “I don’t know what I would’ve done without you.”
Kelly smiled and kissed my hand. “I’m just glad you’re okay.”
“So, when I get out of here, can we have pizza for dinner? Please,” I beg. “You know how much I hate hospital food.”
“Whatever you want, babe. For now, just focus on getting better,” Kelly said.
“Okay, but I will be counting on that pizza,” I input.
Kelly laughed. “I love you so much. Did you know that?”
“It may have occurred to me once or twice, but you could always tell me again just so I don’t forget,” I say.
“I’ll say it as many times as you want me too. I love you,” Kelly confessed and kissed me.
I actually didn't see much of her for the next week. First and foremost, because Comeau took a week off to go do something arty so his shifts fell in my lap, and secondly because
Well, I don't know. She just wasn't around. It started to worry me after the first few days. Did I just act too surly and actually drive away the only ray of sunshine in my otherwise drab world? Listen to me wax fucking poetic. Been talking to Steph too much, maybe.
But when she popped back up again, it was where I was least expecting it.
I had gone into Tim Horton's to use the washrooms — that's all, I think they're just barely better than the swill at Starbucks and equally overpriced. While I was peeing, I heard from the next stall
"KIM?!"
So this next thing isn't all that easy for me to tell you about. I let out a HUGE fart. I mean, she literally scared it out of me so I think I can be forgiven, but the entire washroom went pretty quiet right after that was pretty loud. Just about the most embarrassing moment of my short, sweet existence.
Clearing my throat, I tried to make my voice higher and reedier, like an old lady's voice. "Sorry, dear, I don't know who Kim is!"
"Come on, Kim, I know it's you! I can see that freckle on your toe!" My toes scrunched in on themselves, digging into the flip flops. "Too late!"
"Why would you even have noticed that?!" I demanded, hating that she caught me like this. Seriously, if the toilet flushed and sucked me down into an unknown subspace pocket, I'd have been grateful.
"Last week, while we were kicking back at your coffee table and listening to music?" Her running shoes scuffed nervously at the tile. "Noticed you have a freckle there since we weren't doing much of anything else. Dunno why, guess I just think it's cute."
"I have plenty of freckles. Why is this one cute?"
"Because it's in the middle of your middle toe? Not really sure
" Then I heard her flush. "So, whatcha up to?"
"Trying to pee. Which I did, a little prematurely. But at least I already had my pants down, so I guess it could have been way worse. Why, what about you?"
As I emerged from the stall, I expected her to be out there already. But she was going, "Hang on, just getting things situated
" There was a little rustling, and then she emerged with her arms spread wide, as if giving a glorious reveal
Wearing a barista uniform. For the antichrist conglomerate slowly devouring Canada.
"You work here now?!" I exclaimed, glancing up and down the brown-and-black uniform, at the little visor perched atop her head. "Why? I thought you had a job at Second Cup."
"I had to quit when I went to uni," she said reasonably as she went to wash her hands, glancing down at her slacks and then back over at me when I joined her at the sink. "But um, I wanted to have a little more spending money when I get back for my second year, y'know? And Second Cup is fully staffed right now, and so is Delicious Cup — I already asked. And with Julie working there
"
"Nah, I get you." Seriously, somebody needed to smack some sense into Powers.
Towelling off her hands, she asked, "What are you doing here? I thought you hated Timmy."
"Well, 'hate' is a strong word
" An accurate one. Though I'll admit, I got some really shitty service in Montreal one year that kind of solidified it from disinterest to hate. "Just needed to use the can."
"Right. Well, we do have one of those!"
"Yeah. Um
" My voice was quavering a little, I felt stupid. "Sorry for
 y'know, when I
"
"Didn't say 'pardon me'? It's cool," she laughed. A sigh of relief erupted from me; I really was grateful she didn't make me say it, or say it herself. "This is the place to do that, right?"
Nodding, I towelled off myself. It was weird. We were being weird, and I couldn't quite figure out why
 until she put her finger on it for us.
"But yeah, starting the job has been pretty crazy. I meant to drop by sometime this week, but with work, and my mom's birthday, and stuff
"
"Oh, don't worry about it," I said with a smile of relief. She wasn't ditching me. That shouldn't have mattered as much as it did, but I was seriously soothed to know that. "Been quiet around No-Account." At the last second, I stopped myself from adding "without you" to the end of that.
"I'm really, really sorry. But I can make up for it! This week is less crazy. Wanna go to the zoo?"
For some reason, that made me chuckle. Something I almost never do lately, and her suggestion of going to the zoo was enough. "Really? But it's so far away, and so pricey
"
"I just got my first paycheck. My treat, to make up for being gone lately."
"Well
" Again, she did that weird thing where she enchanted me with her warmth and enthusiasm so much that I couldn't say 'no'. "What day? I'll probably be working."
"Then you pick. I get off at five today, so that's not enough time, but I'm off Saturday
"
"Me, too. Around noon?"
"Sure," she answered with that sweet, shy smile that made me want to flush her down the can. "Meet up there, or at your place first?"
"We can just meet there." I turned toward the washroom door, but something was holding me back. "Um
" I wanted to say something about how much I missed her, even though I didn't fully comprehend why. "Hey
" I wanted her to know that despite how shitty of an attitude I had sometimes, I really truly valued our fucked-up, almost-one-sided friendship.
And while I was stammering, trying to get past my hangups, she hugged me from behind. "Yeah." Then she released me and held the door open. "My break's probably way over by now."
"Right," I sighed. "Go back to slinging brown water. See you tomorrow."
"See ya!"
And she went back behind the counter, while I went down the street shaking my head so violently that it almost came loose and bounced across to the other side.
                                      ~ o ~
The zoo was fine. I'd visited it before, of course, but it had been years. More or less you can expect the animals to do the same things they did the last time, so it's not like a repeat visit will reveal anything new.
But the animals ranged from cute to interesting; giraffes and cheetahs and hyenas, oh my. Knives wanted to look at literally everything, and who was I to stop her? This was the reason we came, so it would be dumb for even me to act like that was strange of her. Meanwhile, I walked around with an iced capp I got from near Tundra Trek and mostly watched her reactions, skipping around in that white babydoll tee and jean shorts, eyes wide and mouth flapping about how much fun she was having, and how big this animal was or how small that one was. That was the real attraction for me.
Which began to worry me a little. Really, this whole thing with Knives already did. Not because I was developing some big gay crush; I didn't think that was it, and I'm no homophobe. But if I wasn't crushing on her, then what was I doing? This was such a weird friendship, and kind of the opposite of the casual relationship I normally enjoyed with my sparse acquaintances. Something about it was so
 intense. But that was probably all Knives, and very little from my end. She was a force of nature.
Once we had seen and done most of everything there was to do without paying extra, like buying souvenirs that nobody would care about in two days, we headed back to catch the bus toward our respective homes. When she brought up dinner, I almost jumped on it.
"Let's do Sneaky Dee's. It sucks, but if we get there early enough, it might not be deafening and full of annoying college kids."
"Like me?"
"Yes, like you. One is enough."
"Hmm, I was gonna head back to my house, but
" Her cheeks bunched in a smile. "You think we could get Stephen or Julie to show up? Make it a real reunion."
"Oh. Yeah, I guess."
Her smile slipped a notch. "Do you not want them to come?"
"Nah, it's fine. Even if Julie is a cunt lately, especially to you."
"That's just Julie," she laughed it off. Not that I thought she should have; the way she acted toward Knives was totally unacceptable, and I still wanted to give her a piece of my mind about it. "Just Stephen then."
Shrugging, I stretched my arms overhead and crossed them behind my neck as we rode along. "What about Neil?"
"He probably wouldn't want to see me. Too many awkward memories." Then she cleared her throat to push past that detail. "Steph could come, though."
"Sure. She's been acting like she wants to hang outside of practices and shit lately. So
 I'll invite her, maybe Stephen and Joseph. Julie can eat a bag of dicks."
That seemed to startle her slightly. At first, I thought maybe I had gone too far, but instead she whispered, "I've never heard that phrase before. It's hilarious! Because like, a whole bag of dicks!" She giggled, and I giggled with her. Sometimes I just couldn't help it around that doofus.
                                      ~ o ~
Not too much later, we were in Sneaky Dee's. It's kind of a grubby hole, but the food is pretty good, drinks are medium-cheap and sometimes they play decent music. Steph showed and so did Stephen, though Joseph stayed back because he was busy "mixing". Probably a lie, but who cares? Knives made a dumb joke about "Steph and Stephen", which made Steph laugh while Stephen and I just rolled our eyes at each other.
It was nice. We talked about the Sex Bob-omb days, and the Sonic and Knuckles days before that. Made noises about getting a band together ourselves, but with Dynamite Headdy doing as well as it was, Stephen had no real motivation to spin more plates.
Everything was going fine
 until we started talking more in-depth about the end of Sex Bob-omb.
"Haven't heard from him since then," Stephen confirmed as we stared at the mostly-empty plates, patting our stomachs. In his case, scratching at his stubble. "Can you live in subspace? Like, I still don't really understand that whole thing very well."
"No, I don't think it's a place you get to stay," I went on. "Of course, I've only been there once or twice. Scott dragged me through a door so we could escape from a crazy samurai." I tried not to glance at Knives, and she didn't seem to notice, either.
"I think there are subspace pockets along with the highways," she said as she sipped at her lemonade. Guess she was serious about not drinking. "But there aren't buildings or restaurants or anything there. So they must be living somewhere in normal space, right?"
Steph shrugged, leaning against the table on her elbows. "Wouldn't know. Never had much experience with it myself. So Scott dragged you through, Kim?"
My body was already freezing up, a response to being needled about my past with Scott so much. "Yeah."
"He was always kind of self-centered, in that dopey, doesn't-realise-he-is way," she mused as she stared across the restaurant at the back of the neon sign in the window. "Even when you two were dating
"
"Oh yeah," Knives said as she turned to me. "You never talked about that much." And I didn't want to now. But she wasn't going to let it drop, was she?
"What is there to say? He was an idiot, I was an idiot for not seeing how much of one he was. He liked to pretend that he rescued me from Simon to make himself more 'heroic'. I'm better off without him."
"That's what you say about Jason, too," he laughed, and I felt myself growing even more earnest in my desire to be silent and not have to react to any of this. "And
 that's probably true. Sometimes I worry about Hollie going through the same thing eventually."
"She deserves it. They both do."
Pointing her fork at me, Steph said, "You always do that. Blame everyone else for all your problems. Not saying they're all your fault, either, just
 maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle?"
"Always," Stephen sighed.
"Well, I think you guys are being too hard on Kim," Knives put in with a little pout, picking at the communal plate of nachos. "Scott dumped me, too, and he wasn't very smart about how he did it, but that's just Scott; he doesn't know how to handle serious stuff until he can't avoid it, I think. That's not her fault."
"Yeah, you and she both dated Scott," Steph said with a slightly suspicious smile. "Funny that you're hanging out together now, despite that."
"Why is it funny?" It was a genuine question, not an accusation. Of course it was. Knives was such a wide-eyed marshmallow.
"Uhhh, because normally you don't get along with your ex's exes?"
Shrugging, Stephen grumbled, "I get along with Julie better than most of you do."
"That's because you turned out to be gay."
"What does that have to do with it? We still broke up when I started dating Joseph."
"Have you ever noticed all our names start with an S, a K, or a J?" Knives observed out of nowhere.
"Yeah
 well, except for Neil."
"Or those other guys," Steph said. "Like Lucas Lee, and the other people who Scott beat up?"
Stephen shook his head. "No, they don't count."
"Why not?"
"They aren't part of 'us', they're the bad guys," he went on reasonably, gesturing to the table with an open palm as if the gesture would help sell his argument. "But then they still do that supervillain thing." When both Steph and Knives kept staring at him in confusion, he sat up a little straighter in the hard wooden booth. "You know
 Lucas Lee, Roxie Richter, Gideon Graves
 Ken and Kyle Katayanagi. That thing."
"Alliteration," she breathed. "The highest form of evil."
"Ohhhhh," Knives said with a hand in front of her open mouth. "That's so weird how I never noticed! But what about Todd Ingram? I mean, I hearted The Clash At Demonhead, so I remember him better
"
"He's the outlier. I mean, not every villain has to adhere to the trope for it to be a trope."
"What's a trope?" Steph asked. But Stephen wasn't listening; he was staring at me, eyes squinting slightly. I tried to ask what he was staring at
But I couldn't. My lips wouldn't move, and my eyes wouldn't blink. Nothing happened despite my best efforts.
"Oh shit," he whispered. "Kim turned to stone again."
Pixels: Untold
This wacky ass thing happened out of something on here someone said about Pixels!Josh (Ludlow) x Dracula Untold!Luke (Vlad), so I wrote the thing! It’s set after the events of Dracula, and during the events of Pixels.
This seemed like such a crack pairing, but they’re actually kinda cute together guys 😭
It's been centuries. Vlad Tepes is enjoying a coffee in NYC one day when the entire town falls into anarchy- lucky for him, the most ill-equipped, insecure, and clumsiest man he's ever met is determined to save the day...
Ludlow Lamonsoff may have no luck with Lady Lisa, but if he plays his lives right, he may have a little with this sexy ass vampire who seems to be the one protecting him at the moment.
Vlad sat on the patio of the coffee shop, sipping the cappuccino he had been enjoying for an hour or so. It was a lovely day, one of the loveliest times of year, Vlad had noted over the centuries. This decade was a particularly nice, albeit busy one, everyone bustling by him on their mobile devices- he owned one just to keep up with the times, but rarely used it at all.
Everything seemed ordinary about this spring day... until he heard a  window crash two streets down, and the sky began to cloud over with strange looking ships.
What in the fresh depths of hell is going on?
Vlad had never seen anything like it.
The vampire just took another sip of his coffee- he'd seen worse in his time, and he'd be damned (again) if he was going to leave this delectable square of cake they called 'banana bread' he had bought. It was a marvelous substitute for human blood, truly, and it made him wonder frequently how he or his people got on without it back in his native time.
Taking another bite and humming to himself thoughtfully, he saw another chunk of the building across the street fall off as a gaggle of pink pixels smashed into it.
Curious. Hopefully no lives were lost... Vlad thought about doing something, but he was hesitant. He had already spent decades building up a respectable persona in this city, he didn't need superhuman speed, morphing into a colony of bats, or fangs to ruin it just yet.
As he was licking the sweet residue of the bread off of his thumb, he heard the sharp sound of footsteps approaching in a run. He calculated they were far away but fast approaching, and prepared himself for an attack.
That's when he heard the loud, high voice running right in front of him.
"Come with me if you want to li- HOLY SHIT, WHAT AN ATTRACTIVE MAN!"
"I beg your pardon?" Vlad asked, eyeing the short man with the ray gun in front of him. He had curly black hair, glasses, and a fuller figure. Narrowing his eyes and inspecting him closer, Vlad raised an eyebrow. He wasn't bad looking, in that dark blue and black jumpsuit... he was intriguing, and his scent was uniquely sweet, something Vlad hadn't come across before.
"No, no, no, let me start that over, I messed it up." The man cleared his throat as Vlad frowned at him, then he lowered his voice a couple of octaves and roughened it up, posing with sucked in cheekbones.
"Come with me if you want to live." After the line, he beamed widely, displaying a row of white teeth with a small, adorable gap in between the two fronts. "Better?"
Vlad considered this, stirring more sugar into his capp. "Significantly."
"I've always wanted to say that. I mean... let's be honest here, you probably won't live if you come with me, but I'd be really happy if you did, 'cause... you're kinda perfect."
Vlad looked back up. "Am I?" he smirked- not smugly, just in amusement.
"I don't get many run-ins with perfect men." The short man thought for a second. "Y'know what, no, that's a complete fabrication. I do, but it usually involves laughter and/or mocking. On their part."
"Mocking?" Vlad asked, finishing off his coffee with a slow gulp. "Why would anyone mock you? You seem like a..." he searched for words that would suit these times, "Cute, capable fellow."
"You think I'm cute?" the man asked, a huge smile blossoming on his face. Just then, a huge pixilated block dropped right beside them, and Ludlow screamed at the top of his lungs. Vlad raised an eyebrow.
"Cute, yes... possibly less capable than I initially imagined."
"Come on," the man suddenly said, scrambling forward to tug Vlad up, "Capable or not, the city's under attack and Brenner and President Cooper sent me to help civilians."
The vampire rose, if only to appease the man, and followed him inside the cafe.
"Oh. I'm Ludlow," the man grinned, holding out a hand as they hid under a booth, "Ludlow Lamonsoff." Vlad shook it, nodding once politely, but tensed slightly as Ludlow's eyes rolled back and his mouth opened.
"Ohhhh my god, your handshake is so firm," he murmured, biting his lip, and then grimaced. "I'm sorry. I'm not smooth. I may be a good gamer, but don't expect A game from me in that department."
Vlad's interest was piqued again. It was no secret he was a sexual creature, and if Ludlow interpreted their interaction as something more than friendly, then... he wasn't opposed to anything.
"Pleased to know you. I'm Prin- I'm Vlad Tepes."
"Jesus Christ, please tell me you were born with that name. I won't judge you if you changed it, because that's totally something I would do, but dude- that is badass."
"You think so?"
"Yeah, like something out of a game!"
"A game," Vlad deadpanned.
"Yup... Vlad. Huh- wasn't that Dracula's name or something?!"
Vlad opened his mouth slowly, unsure of how to answer that, but thankfully (or not) a huge pixilated block fell behind them, caving the roof in. Ludlow let out a piercing, effeminate scream, and Vlad grabbed his arm, pulling him out from the wreckage and leading him out. They looked up, and dodged just in time another few pixels that ended up crashing and setting aflame the table Vlad had just been occupying.
"Damn mushrooms. They're not supposed to fall..."
Vlad began to get very confused.
"We've gotta go, Drac," Ludlow mumbled, tugging Vlad's sleeve, "Now."
They both ran down 5th avenue, dodging cars that were flying across the street and  more burning pixels dropping from the sky.
"It appears you know a lot more than I do about what's going on!" Vlad called, "Care to enlighten me along the way?"
Ludlow whipped around, expression nervous and eyes wide. "Umm... you're going to think I'm nuts."
"If I told you my entire life story, you would think I was mad as well."
Ludlow seemed to take comfort in this, and after a few seconds of mulling it over, he came out with: "Okay. Aliens kind of found a time capsule we, as a nation, collectively shot out into the sky in the 1980s, and interpreted it as an act of war. Now, they're challenging us to these... games?"
"Aliens," Vlad muttered, running a hand through his shoulder length black locks, "And I thought Turks were bad."
"Turks?" Ludlow frowned, "What the f-" Just then, Vlad grabbed him roughly by the collar, yanking him out of the way of a toppling hot dog cart. Ludlow blinked up into Vlad's eyes, then his gaze flickered down to the red lips that were inches away from his own...
"That wasn't a moment, was it?" he squeaked softly, still far too close to the taller man, "I'm imagining this. It was just you saving me, right? Not a moment..."
"It could... be a moment," Vlad swallowed, eyes never leaving Ludlow's, "If you... wish it to be one."
Ludlow breathed out, hands closing around Vlad's biceps, but they were interrupted by the obnoxious honking of someone's van.
"Hey! Lud! Fuck're you doing to that poor civilian?!"
Ludlow's eyes slid closed, and Vlad looked up to see a man, middle aged, almost past his prime, squeal to a halt in a tech repair car. The man got out, and shook his head.
"Sorry sir. He gets this way sometimes with beautiful people, it's a condition- I've seen him lick arcade screens before, be glad he hasn't gotten that far with you yet. Anyway, jesus, what the hell were you doin', Lud?"
"I was... uh..."
"Saving me," Vlad cut in, shrinking his proud, princely posture just a little for effect, "This man was saving me. I was just sitting there, minding my own business, when out of nowhere- aliens! And then Ludlow here came along, and told me to come with him if I wanted to live. Who was I to argue? So I did, and he's saved my life multiple times on the way here."
The guy who pulled up blinked in disbelief, and turned to Ludlow. "That true?"
"Fucking ass, Brenner, of course it's n-"
Just then, a radio crackled inside the van, and Brenner cursed. "There's a situation in Central Park. Keep sharp. Gotta go!"
"Yeah, you... go!" Ludlow called after his friend weakly, then slumped back.
"That wasn't a... fabrication, you understand," Vlad smiled slightly, "You're incredibly brave."
Ludlow deflated, looking genuinely dashed. "Yeah, sure... in the video game universe. I could fight Pacman with a joystick, easy, and my Mario could probably get the Peach... but in real life... I'm just a loser who lives in his grandmother's basement."
Vlad was about to offer him some sort of consolation, but he really had no case to- he was born in a castle.
Ludlow went on ranting. "I mean, that's not even mother's basement level weird- that's like, one generation weirder. And she's always asking me for diet root beer, like I don't have a life or something."
Vlad studied his mannerisms, his nervous ticks, and was surprised to find himself growing fond of this man and his slightly nasally voice. Just as they resumed their intent stare from before, something huge passed over them, and seemed to hurtle down directly toward them. Vlad knew what he had to do.
"Wait!" Ludlow shouted, "Don't do anything to their bodies- it's all in the headshots!" With this, he shot at the creature's head, but Vlad had already transformed- he circled the pixel centipede with his colony of bats, and tore it apart- into six more centipedes.
"Shit on toast," Ludlow muttered, not knowing if he meant the extra centipedes or the fact that the hot guy who saved him that he was crushing on just turned into a bunch of actual bats.
"Ah..." Vlad murmured, once he had morphed back into human form, "I didn't mean to..."
"There's six!" Lud shrieked, "I don't know how to... I c-can't- I'm- when I was a kid, the most I ever took in this game was four, but-"
"Wait," Vlad said, grabbing him by the arms and fixing with a stare. Ludlow tried to ignore the fluorescent red he saw in Vlad's dark eyes- he was imagining this, right? It was just another trick from the aliens, don't fall for it, Lud. "You said you were working for this country's leader- how did this come to be?"
"What?!"
"Why are you working for the president?!"
"I..." Ludlow swallowed, then thought about it. Vlad was right. He was working for the president. And for what reason? "Because I'm a badass," he nodded, locking and loading his gun, "Here comes the Wonder Kid, baby!"
With that, he ran underneath the centipedes, blasting away as purple and green pixels fell around them like dead flies. Vlad helped deflect the debris so that they wouldn't fall on Ludlow, incinerating each piece. Soon, the skies were clear... for now.
"That's what happens when you mess with me and motherfuckin' Batman!" Ludlow shouted at the sky, opening up his arms cockily, "YEAH!!" He sighed, and scratched his head. "Wow. That happened." He suddenly looked over to Vlad, cautiously this time. "Hey. Was that... god, please tell me I imagined that."
Vlad shook his hair off of his face, and exhaled. His chest wasn't rising and falling nearly as much as it should be, and he should have a lot more scratches all over his body after that... "I'm afraid you didn't. I'm..."
"You're legit Dracula?!" Ludlow squeaked, "Fangs and the whole deal?!"
"Well," Vlad murmured, "I'm known to the Elder as Dracula, yes."
"The 'Elder', oooh, sounds like some boss you've gotta beat to move onto the next level."
"I have no idea what you just said."
"Vlad, are you actually... a vampire?" Lud asked hesitantly.
"Aliens and such falling from the skies and attacking us? I could argue I'm not the strangest thing here," Vlad shrugged, smirking.
Ludlow huffed a laugh. "At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the US army turns out to be highly trained werewolves." He squinted at Vlad. "You're sensitive to silver?"
"Coming in contact with it is less than pleasant."
"And what about sunlight? It's sunny today."
"I've grown accustomed to it over the years."
"Dude... this is fucking awesome!" Ludlow screamed, and Vlad walked a little closer. They shared a look, and the shorter man began to stumble over his words. "Now I get why you're so handsome... you're other-wordly." He suddenly teared up. "Why is everyone I like either 8-bit or undead?"
"Listen to me- I find you... interesting," Vlad told him, reaching out to fix Ludlow's crooked glasses.
"Seriously?" Ludlow asked, lifting his eyebrows.
"Mmm. You see... there has only been one other person who has intrigued me in this way. We were husband and wife at the beginning of our time, before she..." he looked down, as if centuries did nothing to dull the pain of it, "Slipped through my fingers." Ludlow sniffed, and wiped his eyes at the story. "Over the lifetimes, we've grown apart, and our destinies have aligned separately- I was told it was a possibility. But you," Vlad's eyes narrowed, "You're new. Refreshing."
"Refreshing," Ludlow managed out, voice cracking, "You make me sound like I'm sangria. Human sangria."
"I escaped the... drinking aspect of the curse, if that is what you mean," Vlad smiled assuredly, "I no longer crave blood. I do, however... crave a date with you."
Ludlow blinked, suddenly dumbfounded. "Did I just get hit on... by a sexy vampire? Furthermore, did a sexy vampire just use a cheesy pickup line on me?!"
"It appears one did," Vlad nodded, allowing his fangs to grow a little teasingly as he grinned. Ludlow swooned, then righted himself.
"You're really charming, and this is absolutely crazy. I'm inclined to say yes, but the last time I said yes to a stranger, I accidentally spent $4k on an old Atari console that only ended up playing the Super Mario 3 theme on repeat. There was no off button, Vlad. Made me wanna fucking end it all, until I discovered my grandma's shovel. Buried the bitch, 6 feet under. The console, not my grandmother."
Vlad tried to mask his confusion again with a smile. "W-well, whatever you're comfortable with. I've got nowhere to be for a long while, so I'll always be around."
Just then, Ludlow looked across the street at a couple who were crying and kissing each other in relief, hands all over each other, and his eyes narrowed.
"On second thought? I'm not gonna let this one slip through my fingers." With that, Ludlow stood up on his tippy toes, and brought his lips to Vlad's. The vampire breathed in, filling his lungs with that sweet scent of the man in his arms, and kissed back with a passion he hadn't reciprocated in decades. After a few blissful moments, Ludlow pulled away, grinning and wishing this uniform jumpsuit wasn't so tight on his dick.
"Well... we may have beat this game with barely any XP to spare... but it looks I'm gonna high score tonight!"
Vlad winced. "Never say that again, as long as you live."
"Yeah, sorry."
You can also find this oneshot on ao3 haha.
