KHTober 2023 Day 7: Guardian of Light

Ienzo was continuing to skim old reports in Master Ansem’s study when Lea came back.

“I’m off again right after this,” said Lea, before Ienzo could get a word out of greeting. “Just thought you guys might want to know I’m doing my own thing now. They want me to be one of their lucky seven, so I’ve gotta train.”

Ienzo had been having a hard time identifying each of his emotions since he had regained his heart, but this one was one he’d known from a young age, and something even Zexion had felt: frustration. Though, this time, he wasn’t sure if it was the usual frustration at being out of the loop, or if it was directed at Lea himself. Perhaps both. He bit back a scathing remark, a little too Zexion for his taste. “Who is this you’re talking about?”

Lea scratched his head. “Y’know, Sora and Riku and Kairi, King Mickey, some fuckin’ wizard guy, uh…”

As helpful as ever.

Shh. Don’t say that out loud. Ienzo kept quiet, waiting for Lea to continue.

“There’s this big war thing that’s supposed to happen between some keyblade wielders called the Guardians of Light and the ‘Real Organization’– guess we weren’t cool enough for old Norty, heh– and the lights want me to join ‘em.”

Ienzo blinked. 

They must be desperate if they asked you to join them. 

Knock it off. “Good… job?” He shook his head slightly. “I’m missing too much context. You’re a keyblade wielder?”

What convenient timing.

Lea grinned. “Yup! Managed to summon mine a bit ago, check this:” He held a hand out, narrowing his eyes at the empty space where the keyblade would appear, and waited.

And waited.

Oh, wow. They truly must be desperate.

“Eh, whatever,” Lea shrugged it off. “I’ve got plenty of time to figure it out. Doesn’t really matter if you see it or not.”

A second, stronger surge of frustration. Ienzo fiddled with the edge of one of the papers. “Make sure not to waste that time.”

Lea rolled his eyes. “Knew you’d say that.” Ienzo mentally cursed himself for letting that one slip out. At the very least, the good-natured smirk didn’t leave Lea’s face. “Sayonara, good luck with whatever you guys are doing nowadays.”

Good riddance.

“And good luck to you as well,” Ienzo said quietly, though Lea was already gone.

To elaborate on my ruekirtho throuple thoughts, sometimes I think about a world where their shared love for mytho brought rue and fakir together instead of driving them apart. They’re both incredibly lonely kids who have lost too much and, as much as they care for mytho, a heartless doll isn’t replacement for real human companionship. So they find each other.

Rue knows it will never last. No one beyond her Prince will ever love her. She sees the way Fakir throws rocks at the flock of crows that gathers around her. When he discovers her identity—and she knows he will discover her identity one day—they’ll go back to being enemies. He is the Knight and she is the daughter of the Raven, his killer. Still, it’s nice to have a friend even for a little while. So she lets herself forget. She forgets who, what, she is. She forgets that there was ever a before. She forgets that they won’t last.

Fakir knows there is something very, very wrong in Rue’s life. He sees the deep scratches that stand out against her almost unnaturally pale skin. She speaks in a hushed tone with a haunted look in her eyes when it’s time to go home. She won’t tell him anything, though. He doesn’t even know where she lives; it’s as if she disappears at the end of the day. He just hopes that one day, when it comes down to it, he’ll be able to protect her from whatever haunts her.

By the time the story goes into motion, the two, along with Mytho, are near inseparable. When Mytho begins regaining his heart, Rue and Fakir work together to put a stop to it. When Rue begins losing track of the days, feeling as if someone else is trying to claw their way out of her chest, she almost goes to Fakir for help. Almost.

It is, of course, Fakir who shatters the illusion that is Rue. Her one and only friend calls her an ugly crow, and in that moment she remembers what she is. What she’s always been. They’ve been enemies from birth. This “friendship” was nothing more than the a sad illusion created by a lonely girl—a girl who no longer exists. And she knows now, in her father’s absence, her “friend” will die at her hand. This is their fate and fate cannot be changed. Still, it was nice while it lasted.

so, uh, idk how to say this since this is a tricky topic... but a week ago, i came across a Pearce Joza/Matt Cornett smutty fanfic, and it was just.... it felt wrong on so many levels. I didn't read it fully. I just skimmed through it. I should not have let curiousity get the best of me.

that's it.. i don't want to get into the topic of RPFs and I just hope that the two actors involved won't ever see that fic for their sake.

okok i couldn't resist flipping immediately to the chapter on tianjing and thinking about jun

and growing up as an aasimar (now called empyreans but... yknow) in a nation of mostly aasimar. a nation known for closing a wound similar to the worldwound and guarding against it ever opening again. lots of pressure to live up to that legacy of heroism, surrounded by monasteries and temples and this expectation of goodness and holiness because of his bloodline. and he finds it extremely stifling

so he leaves to travel tian xia. falls into a small fringe cult of zon-kuthon and ends up making the journey across the sea to Nidal (where ZK worship prevails) and still... finds himself in mendev at the worldwound, so similar to the thing that the foundations of his home country are built on. the history and legacy he'd run away from. and then devoting himself to closing it.

we love circular narratives and recurring themes and character development.

he originally goes to mendev undercover as an inquisitor of abadar, although truly he's seeking to deepen his devotion to zon-kuthon in the chaos going on there, after having a mini crisis of faith.

i know he alignment shifts from lawful evil to lawful neutral but i'm still thinking about if he'll reject Zon-Kuthon entirely or just adapt his worship of him (other deity options would be jin li, desna, tsukiyo)

maybe retraining entirely from an inquisitor to something more distant from the gods (i have already decided in pf2e he'd be the upcoming commander class, which is like focused on team stuff similar to his pwotr inquisitor build)

i'm gonna cry ugh when kevi couldn't remember but he could still feel the emotion and started crying but he didn't understand why bc his memories had been changed??? the way that's definitely a parallel for mc...

mc has always been a sweetheart and her going through these things probably helps her understand how to approach them <///3 (also you're right kudos to those parents!!)
