I am reaching the point of being dangerously stressed about money. The "I can't breathe when I think about it" point. The "I don't see any way out of this" point. The "I'm being unforgivably selfish for not dropping out of school and getting a job that crushes my soul" point. The "I'm nothing but a burden on the people who love me" point.
I want to say I'm doing everything I can. I've worked retail jobs until I can't stand for more than an hour without being in pain for two days. I spend as much time as I can manage doing gig work, which of course is putting my car through hell, and I won't be able to afford repairs if it breaks. I can't cut down hours and earn enough to live. I can't keep working this much and keep up with school. Loved ones who can't afford it have been incredibly generous to me, and I'm still behind.
Why can't I just drop out of my grad program and get a normal job? What makes me think I deserve to do this? It's the obvious solution, isn't it? Does it matter that I've tried before and ended up financially better off but dying inside? It's my fault I'm in this situation. If I were just...
Fuck, I don't know how to finish that sentence. The world is the way it is, and I'm not in the category of people it allows out of this kind of situation.
This isn't a plea for help, and I don't need a bunch of "have you tried ___?" (I probably have tried ____) I'm just. Tired. I'm so tired of being scared and flailing and feeling like I'm never going to get out of this.
I've failed or given up on so many things in my life. I don't want finishing grad school to be another one. I don't know how to keep it from being another one.
People say it'll get better, but how could anyone know? We hear about the people it got better for, not the ones it didn't.

i'm struggling with what i wanna do in grad school...
and i was just gonna tag rant but yk what i'll put it in the post
i'm in my senior year of my bachelor's program in information systems (business + computer science = where dreams go to die) because apparently the degree will be useful for the next year or two until the inevitable AI takeover (itsfineitsfineitsfine)
i always thought i would go into grad school for library science and be a librarian, but the farther along i get in school, the more my options look...bleak. i've applied to my local library maybe half a dozen times and got one interview that i thought went well, though they didn't hire me (i think they had someone else in mind already). most people in the field say it took years of volunteer work, networking, and endless credits just to get their foot in the door. although my research says the field is not dying (it's just highly competitive), it feels like i would be screwing myself over if i got this degree.
really, i just want a job associated with fiction, something fun. i would be happy working in a library, managing the system & organizing events & talking about books with students. i would be happy being a creative writing teacher. I would be happy working in publishing, maybe reading over manuscripts or editing. i'd even be happy working on a movie set, if that's in writing or something else to bring a fictional world to life.
i have to decide something quick, because i graduate in may. i wanted to get my master's at the cheapest online school [redacted]. i thought i could maybe do a dual degree program for library science and english teaching or something. my parents want me to use my college money (both through them and my acedemic scholarships), to go to a different school [redacted], that costs twice as much for the same online degree because the reputation is better and it might lead to better networking opportunities.
my worry is just that no matter how many credits i need, i will always be short something. i'll have to go back to school for education or something else. and this isn't a situation where i get the job and they pay for me to go back to school--it would be like they don't hire me, and i have to pay to go back to school anyways because i won't have a chance at even getting another job interview otherwise.
i just don't know what to do, and i'm scared. i'm wondering what degree to do, what route to take that won't just make me happy, but will also get me a job at the end of the day. i keep seeing all these things about unemployment, the housing market, the job market, how hard everything is and i feel like i'm speeding until i crash into a wall. i haven't done any internships, all of my job experience is in food and retail and i'm terrified that's where i'm gonna stay for the rest of my life (no offense to anyone working those jobs, obv from this post you can tell it's virtually impossible to work anywhere else so like i get it).
i know i need to do my research and email the different schools and figure things out, it's just a really hard situation to work through.
if anyone has any advice or take on this situation at all, i would really appreciate it. i just feel really lost

Not that this is like, a hot new take or anything, but I can imagine that they both might be going through a bit of a crisis. Like their careers have finally died down but like, what do they do. They haven't done much else but be YouTube personalities (which is more than just YouTube, obv) for like, nearly 15 years. They are probably afraid to venture into new territory, because at this point that will likely mean risking either their brand or their bank accounts (like how Dan had to risk money to do the tour / offer to put up his own money for Dinok). Not that that's a good excuse, but I can understand being afraid and Phil just trying to hang on to his usual content for the both of them (as he also figures out work/life balance). Dan only did DD for the tour and it definitely felt kinda forced. Just doing their old stuff but with their older/out-of-closet selves isn't going to be successful in a way it's safe, for now.
As someone with a lot of the same kind of mental health struggles Dan has, I imagine he might be beyond burnt out and doesn't really want the attention anymore because of the work it requires. And even though it's like, okay it's been months since the tour okay what's next... idk what we'll really get out of him for a while (maybe a few years even?) besides random contract work like the channel 4 thing. Like, projection time, but I just got through grad school with extreme ADHD/executive dysfunction/procrastination etc, and was so burnt out by the end idk how I did it. And I'm like, oh well it's been about 6 months I should probably have a job in my field by now (which I'm probably insane for thinking that anyways because the job market is in so wild). But like, I've been kinda burnt out since 2016 (when I was 16 and a junior in high school, at the end of my og dnp phase) and all I can muster the mental energy to do now is the same part-time / retail work I've been doing the past few years. Which like, I'm barely getting by and I do ultimately feel disappointed that I'm not trying harder to put my fancy new degree to work because I'm barely applying for anything. But I just can't get myself together enough to do that right now. I imagine Dan might be going through something similar, like, he could be doing something creative but he probably is just tired and wants to just live life without any expectations and go on vacations and rely on Phil to be the content creator. He's probably aware that it's not ideal. But he also seems done with compromising any creative vision either because he doesn't want to do sponsorships or anything that isn't a deeply personal piece of art. And he probably doesn't have many deep ideas now that WAD is done and Dinok is stalled and there isn't much he seems to want to do commentary on (because if he just sucked it up he would actually be a pretty good commentary YouTuber lol).
I think they also have a lot more stuff to work through mental health wise too before they are ever really able to not be cryptic about their relationship, since when ex-phannies or random people who remember them see their tiktoks or whatever it's what they all ask about. Like to some degree I don't know if they ever wanted to be out and famous but it got to the point where they couldn't keep denying it either. I'm so glad they came out because it's clearly so much healthier, but beyond the trauma of being closeted that they had to overcome they probably now have trauma from years and years of people being weird towards them about their relationship and it's like... now they have get through that in order to take the next step. do they really want to go through all that just to help open themselves up to a new era of content? Idk.
(this turned out to be wayyy longer than I anticipated woops. can't even remember if some of this was in response to what was on your blog or some of the other similar conversations I've seen about this today but yeah).
i'm almost crying. i hate us so much. this is exactly why the phandom needs meet ups irl or "bubbles" where we could have conversations. because trying to answer THAT without forgetting something is hard, and also i can't imagine how hard it is to write these mini-essays and get bullshit in response.
i appreciate it a lot. and i basically agree with your message. i see how it can be true. and i know that in case of burnout, Dan can let himself step back. the problem i have with him disappearing and coming back after 2018 is that he thinks that the audience will wait for him and accept everything he puts out with the same passion, participation, and amount of money as when he and Phil were making content without long pauses. but book sales, merch sales, tour ticket sales, views and god knows what else that we can't see show that we aren't willing to wait. and it started in 2019 i guess, so you would think that by 2022 Dan would understand what went wrong and just book smaller venues (or make a smaller stage for it to not be a problem). i'm using wad just as an example. you said Dan could not want attention anymore. but he repeatedly says that he loves attention. and it's not only words, you can see it irl. ofc after tours there is a period of time to rest. but before that, there was a clusterfuck of something that was barely content while the merch releases were consistent. either because it was pre-made or because Dan was still living in a rose-colored world thinking that we would buy stuff without content. i'm not sure what i'm arguing here anymore riuehdfsidxkl apologies, i guess it's related to Dan wanting to fuck off. and he CAN. i don't care, 2019 taught me a lesson. (doesn't mean i can't bitch about it <3)
anyway. i understand your struggles with work and degree. basically, i was in the same position after graduating, and now it's even more difficult but i get it. choosing to work part-time, in retail and similar "easy" jobs because you can't deal with the weight of expectations that come with a degree, that's... yeah. an adult reality that no one told us about. i wish you the best, and i hope everything works out well. whatever you decide to do, remember you don't have to use your degree if you don't want to or just don't feel like you can at this moment. you know, getting a fancy "serious" job is such a commitment, bruhh. and you can always walk out of retail :)
Dan would be a brilliant commentary youtuber, you're right! he just knows how to talk and make people listen.
their brand is already fucked, nothing to save here. i mean, Dan and Phil brand doesn't exist. Dan's youtube brand is all over the place. AmazingPhil is the only consistent thing. and yes, it feels like Phil is terrified of shifting in any direction. we're stuck with 2016 content, it's like a real-life time machine on youtube. and if it works for him, fine. i'm just sad that there is no "trying new things" anymore and that he can't even get old successful things back.
i'm not commenting on their relationship because it would be too long. fuck tiktok though. i think dnp jumped to this "new popular" platform with no actual regular content to present as a distraction and that bit them in the ass.

You rolled your shoulders, walking into the apartment, throwing your shoes in the vicinity of the others, just wanting to lay down.
The sound of the TV was playing from the living room around the corner, Bucky slouched down, scrolling through the channels.
Muttering a hello to your boyfriend, collapsing down, your head resting in his lap.
“Hi baby.” He whispered, petting your hair. You hummed, your eyes starting to become heavy. Bucky knew how much you worked since he got laid off from his job, taking extra shifts to keep up rent.
“Did you find any openings?” You asked, turning so your shoulders were resting on his thighs, letting you look up at him.
“There’s a new development of houses about to start, I might be able to snag a job there.” His thumb smoothed over the crease between your eyebrows. “Babydoll, I hope you know this isn’t the life I planned for us.”
The two of you stayed on the couch, Bucky continuing to watch TV before you fell asleep. Bringing you up the stairs, changing you out of your uniform into pajamas, he pressed a kiss to your forehead before going to sleep himself.

-
You were up and out of the house before Bucky got out of the shower, leaving him enough coffee as you drove to work. The diner you worked at was the same one you worked in during grad school, finally getting promoted to lead server the past year.
The pay was well, but the customers were shitty. You can’t even count the amount of times you’ve been yelled at, poked and prodded by older gentlemen, and just rude people who think they were always right.
“Lighten up sweetheart.” The man at the bar laughed looking at you as you wiped the countertop. Giving me a sickly sweet smile, returning back into the kitchens, shoving his food towards him.
The diner was fairly empty at 7am, the calm before the storm when most come in for the morning rush. It was male at the counter, a woman and her son at one of the booths and the man who had walked in a few minutes still looking over his menu.
“What can I get started for you today?” You smiled, your notepad in. Pushing his menu down, the man looked up to you. You could tell he came from money, the suit was well tailored, the shoes he wore retailed for over $1,000 and you just assumed the rolex on his wrist had to be real.
“What’s good here, first time.” His teeth were perfectly aligned, his lips curved into a smile.
“Then I’d walk out the door and head over to the next block and go to McDonalds.” You were serious, he let out a breathless laugh, noticing how you weren’t joking.
“A coffee then.” He gave you the menu. You nodded, walking back towards the machine. Hearing the giggling from the side, you turned to see another one of the servers.
“He likes you.” She squealed.
“Vanessa what are you talking about?” You furrowed your brows.
“He couldn’t take your eyes off you, he’s still looking now.” You didn’t turn around, ignoring your friend and returning back to his table with his table.
“Here ya go, if you need anything else, just let me know.” You smiled.
You didn’t have time to check back in with the man, as the morning rush started, hustling around the diner to clear up tables and sit everyone. When you started to clean his table, picking up his bill and coffee cup, you noticed the $20 bill. Your eyes widened, the coffee was two dollars, you weren’t even expecting a tip.
Staying until the afternoon, getting off, you headed home, Bucky gone and you started on dinner. You didn’t say anything to him about the tip when he got home, Bucky gushing about how the new job was well and paid him well.
Continuing on your schedules, the two of you worked and worked, taking extra shifts, working overtime, wanting to reach that goal you were both desperately wanting.
Steve, the man who tipped you $20, came in every few days, always getting a coffee and occasionally a pastry or a piece of pie, still leaving the $20. He was handsome, you had to admit, and you had learned he was the CEO of his own business in the city.
You thought about it time and time again, why he would come to your shitty little diner to the edge of the city for coffee that was terrible for diner coffee.
“Coffee and a slice of pie.” You walked towards him.
“And maybe a date.” He asked.
“Steve, I've told you, I have a boyfriend who I dearly love.” You said, shaking your head slightly.
“Then bring him too.” He said all too calmly, you stared at him, trying to detect any sort of lie.
“I like you and want to get to know you and your boyfriend.”
You were flustered and shocked, there was no denying that he was handsome, and you remembered him telling you he just wanted company at times.
“And you said yes!” Bucky exclaimed looking at you, arriving home you already knew this wasn’t something Bucky was going to agree to right away, some man asking out his girlfriend and him.
“B, it’s dinner, he’s nice.” You said.
“Dude probably wants us to watch us bone.” He shuttered.
“Bone, really.” You rolled your eyes. “Bucky, I think he wants us to be his sugar babies.”
“What?” He looked at you confused. “You’re serious.”
“I think so, he’s rich, and he said he wanted company and he invited you to dinner. Just dinner, that's it and if he wants more, we can leave.”
The thought of adding another person to your relationship was a shower thought when the two of you were in college, both of you wanted to spice things up.
Neither of you were expecting the type of restaurant Steve invited you too, pulling up, already seeing him standing outside.
“Holy shit, you weren’t kidding, dude is loaded.” Bucky watched as he handed the valet his keys to his Rolls Royce.
“Y/n.” He smiled seeing the two of you come hand and hand, “and this must be your boyfriend, I’m Steve.”
“Bucky.”
“Well come on, then.” Opening the door for the two of you, his hand resting on your lower back walking to the table he reserved for the three of you.
Dinner was awkward, Bucky could barely speak to him, practically glaring at him. You tried to lighten him up and the constant amount of times you pinched his thighs, he wouldn’t let up.
“What are your intentions?” Bucky asked, finishing his dinner, he sounded like a father interrogating his daughter’s boyfriend.
“I’m surprised you haven’t figured it out yet.” Steve laughed. “I want you two to be my sugar babies.” You paused your chewing, looking at both of them, you already assumed that was what he was going to say but you were surprised that he was so blunt with it.
“I understand your financial difficulties, and I would like to help in exchange to weekly dates and outing and someone to bring home so my ma won’t pester me about dating.” He continued.
You looked at Bucky, noticing his blank face, looking at Bucky. Bucky’s sexuality was always in the open, he freely told you about it on your first date, clearing out any supposition.
“You into dudes?” Bucky raised an eyebrow.
“I have had a few male partners in the past, yes.” Steve answered. “I understand this a lot for the two of you, and I'll let you two decide on how you would like to proceed.”
Coming home from the dinner, Bucky was quiet, both his hands were on the steering wheel, you looked outside through the window, actually thinking about accepting it.
“Buck-”
“I’m tired and gonna head to bed, we’ll talk in the morning.”
You were truly terrified in the moment thinking you had just ruined your relationship, you nodded, staying downstairs for a while before heading up.
Both of you took the day off the next morning, sleeping in for a while. Bucky was the first to get out of bed, making the two of you breakfast, waiting for you to come downstairs.
“Hi.” You whispered, taking the seat next to him.
“I’m sorry about last night.” He apologized.
“It’s okay, I get it.” You shrugged. You didn’t expand on the topic, because even if there was something in you telling you to accept, you wouldn’t say yes without Bucky agreeing also.
“I think we should.” He looked up at you. You stared at him for a moment, swallowing down your food.
“Are you sure, you don’t have to say yes because I thought about it.” You said.
“It’s okay babydoll, I think it’ll be good, we thought about this in the past, adding another person into the relationship, this will show us how it is and maybe in the future we like Steve a lot, maybe our relationship can change into something different.
“I still love you, you know.” You reassured not only him but yourself.
“I love you too babydoll.”

Costumes Galore - One Shot
a/n: this one was based off a few asked for my Halloween themed one shot requests. A lot of you wanted to something around a costume rental store, so I just made Harry the owner of that store! Feedback and reblogs are helpful, hope you enjoy! (not proofread)
Warnings: pining, smut, friends to lovers
Words: 8.7K
Tumblr media
Don’t ask him how, but Harry is the owner of a costume rental shop. He was a business major in university, and with some luck and patience, he was able to take over the very shop he worked in as a teenager. Halloween was his busiest season, of course, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t doing well year round. He would give deals to the local schools and community theaters, and people who dressed as characters for parties would come see him. So, needless to say, business was steady. He often had big sales right after Halloween, and people would come in and clean him out.
Preparing for Halloween was his favorite thing to do. As soon as it was September 1st, he would transform his shop, pulling out tons of decorations, and putting out different bowls of candy. He liked making his customers happy, and everyone usually left satisfied. His changing rooms were comfortable and spotless, and he even set up backdrops in the lounge area for people to take Halloween pictures of their kids. People would come in to do that all year to save time and money. He was a smart business man. Harry did most of the work himself, he had a couple of teenagers that worked for him after school, but other than that it was all him. He didn’t mind, it gave him the control he needed over his shop, and he just didn’t have the money to pay someone for full-time help. He was only entering the fourth year of owning the place, after all.
Harry enjoyed the small traditions the downtown area had. Every year on October 30th, all of the shops would open their doors so kids could come trick or treat. It was a great way to give out pamphlets and coupons, while also getting to know the people that lived in the area. He loved kids, so when Harry was told about the tradition by his shop neighbor he got right on it, splurging for the king sized candy bars.
It was getting to be that time of year again, just about the end of September, his shop was looking good, and the Halloween crowds had slowly been trickling in and out. He was at the register when he heard the chime of the bell he keeps above the door to signal someone was coming in. It was a beautiful young woman, and she made Harry’s mouth run dry.
“Hello.” She says shyly as she walks up to the counter.
“Hi.” He swallows, and then smiles. “May I help you find something? Picking a costume up?” He moves to walk into the back door to see what reservations he had left for the day, but she stops him.
“No, um, I was wondering, actually, if you were hiring seasonally? I’m a grad student at the local university, and I could really use the extra cash before the holidays approach.”
“Oh.” He wasn’t expecting such a blunt and honest answer. “Well, I usually only hire high school students…it’s a bit easier to pay them under the table.”
“I don’t mind! I have another job at the university I get a pay stub for and all that, I really just need the extra money for the season. If you’re not hiring it’s okay, I can check with the other shops, I just figured since this is a costume shop you’d be getting really busy soon.”
“You figured correctly.” He sighs. “Do you have much experience in retail?”
“Oh, sure, tons! I worked in a grocery store when I was a teenager, so I know how to work a register, and then in undergrad I worked at an Old Navy, so I know how to fold clothes properly and check inventory.” She pulls a folded piece of paper out of her back pocket. “Here’s my resume, not the most professional way of showing it, but I brought it nonetheless.” She unfolds it and slides it on the counter towards him.
Harry takes it and furrows his brows as he reads it over. Seems like she was in her first year of grad school, but had graduated from her undergrad a couple of years ago. Her undergraduate degree was in social work, and it looks like she had been working in an office for a couple of years. Now she was going for a graduate degree in school counseling. She had plenty of experience, that wasn’t his worry, he just wasn’t sure he would be able to properly compensate her.
“My busiest hours during the season tend to be between 3 and 7PM, and then I’m swamped on Saturdays. How many hours a week do you think you could work?”
Her features soften as she perks up from his question.
“I’m honestly free by four most days, and Saturdays are no problem. Well, as long as I don’t have to be up at the crack of dawn.” She chuckles. “I’m no good early in the morning. I could do Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday if that works for you?”
“I wouldn’t be able to pay you more than ten dollars an hour, and you’d need to keep track of things on your own. I expect the honor system too, no trying to stiff me.”
“That’s perfect!” She was doing the math in her head. “Do you close right at seven? Would I stay after to close up?”
“Probably would need you here until eight. Saturday I’m open eleven to five, would need you here ten to six for that.”
She furrows her brows as she thinks about it. That would roughly come to about twenty hours a week, which was exactly what she was looking for. Then that would be $200 extra in her pocket a week, or $400 if he decides to pay her bi-weekly, and she wouldn’t have to worry about a dime of it coming out for taxes.
“Well, uh…”, she squints at his nametag, “Harry, I think we have a deal.” She smiles and extends her hand for him to shake. He takes it gently and smiles at her. “When can I start?”
“Why don’t you come in this Saturday around 9:30? I can go over everything with you without have to rush. There’s a little kitchen in the back and all that so feel free to leave food here if you feel like packing a lunch or snacks. I also keep a lot of snacks around.”
“Works for me.” She shrugs. “If you’re here until eight most days, what time do you usually open?”
“Around ten, I get here for nine.”
“Those are long days.”
“I don’t mind it, there’s always a lot to do.” It’s quiet between them for a moment.
“Well, I’ll let you get back to it. See you Saturday!” She beams.
“Wait, uh, the door will be locked when you get here, and I can’t just give you a key, barely know you.” He chuckles. “But here.” He grabs a business card and writes his cell phone number on it. “Just text me when you get here, and I’ll let you in.”
“Perfect.” She looks at the card. “Thanks, Mr. Styles.”
“Stick with Harry, we don’t need to be so formal.”
“Alright, thanks, Harry.”
Out the door she goes feeling way better than when she walked in. He wondered how close in age they might be, she had to be around the same age as him, if not only a year or so younger. It would be nice working with someone he could actually talk to. He likes the teenagers, but sometimes he just had no idea what they were talking about.
//
Saturday morning Y/N isn’t sure what to wear. Harry hadn’t said anything about a uniform, so she decides on a pair of khakis and a black polo to at least look the part of a retail worker. She tucks the shirt in to look professional, and to make sure she looked cute. She puts her hair up in a ponytail, and out the door she goes. She grabs a coffee from the shop across from Harry’s, and takes out her phone to text him.
Y/N: Good morning, Harry! It’s Y/N, I’m outside the shop 😊
She sips her warm drink as she waits for him to appear in the windows. She smiles as she sees him walking up, and he opens the door for her.
“Morning, Y/N.” He smiles, voice still a little gravelly from sleep. It makes her blush.
“Morning.” She nods as she walks in. “Oh…I should have asked you if you wanted a coffee.” She frowns at herself. “I’m sorry.”
“No worries, had mine a little while ago. I should’ve asked you if you wanted anything.” He runs a hand through his hair. “Anyways…”, he looks her up and down, “don’t feel like you need to dress so…well, I should have texted you about attire. Um, you can wear pretty much whatever you want. I just ask if you wear jeans that they’re not ripped, and if you wear leggings make sure you’re bum is covered. You never know what kind of old creeps might be coming in here to steal glances.” She nods at him and follows him behind the register and into the back room. “So this is where I keep reserved costumes. People will call ahead sometimes with their measurements and what they need.” He opens another door that leads into a breakroom. It was small kitchen with a slop sink, decent sized fridge, microwave, blender, toaster, and hot plate on the counters.
“I think you have every appliance known to man.” She laughs.
“Well, I can’t exactly have an oven in here, so I stalked up on other things. There’s some small pots if you feel like having pasta, that’s why I have the hot plate, you just need to remember to unplug it when you’re done. Turns out a lot of clothes are flammable, go figure.” His jokes makes her giggle, and he likes the sound of it. “And then through this door is the office. I have some lockers in here so you can hang your coat up, or put a bag away. Bring a lock if you feel like it, but I promise not to steal your things if you promise not to steal mine.”
“Promise.” She nods. “Where are the bathrooms?”
“In the back of the store along with the dressing rooms. We’ll get there in a moment. Every night I have a cleaning crew come in to make sure everything is spick and span, but accidents happen during the day sometimes so it’s on us to clean that up when it occurs.”
“No problem there. I used to clean the bathrooms at the grocery store all the time. Not my favorite thing to do, but I’m no stranger to it.”
He nods and then leads her back out to the register. He explains how he bookkeeps, and how important it is to save every receipt. Then he takes out what looks like a magazine that explains all of the types of costumes and accessories he keeps. He essentially had the shop on a grid system so everything was easy to find. She would need to learn this so she could properly help the customers. Then he leads her to the back of the store, shows her the dressings rooms and bathrooms, and then to the very back room where all of the storage was.
“Holy shit.” She says to herself. “You could get lost in here.” She swallows.
“You shouldn’t need to come back here too much. I usually have what people need out front, but sometimes you may need to snag some things from here. Mostly shoes.” He takes her back into the main area and into the office so they can sit. “I have cameras just about everywhere. Kids can sometimes pocket the costume jewelry. I have security codes for the doors as well, but I’ll always be here before you, so you won’t ever have to open, or close for that matter.”
“Okay.”
“What’s your class schedule like?”
“I have classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, and then on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays I go to a middle school for my practicum hours. I’m hoping to become an adjustment counselor, you know, helping students with more serious issues.”
“At the middle school level no less, wow.” He runs a hand through his hair. “Good for you.”
“Thanks.” She smiles.
“You said you had a job at the university too, how do you have the time for that?”
“Oh, I get a stipend as a TA.” She shrugs. “The classes I actually take are online, so I have plenty of time. This is just for the season anyways, so it’s fine.”
“Right.” He opens his desk drawer and slides a nametag towards her. “There you are, no you’re a proper employee.”
“Thank you.” She takes it and puts it on, her tongue slightly peeking out as she does so. “So, how do I get paid? Are you gonna sneak me an envelope every week?” She chuckles.
“That’s the plan, yeah. The pay period will be like Saturday to Saturday, so I’ll pay you on Fridays, sound good?”
“Sounds great! Thank you again. I’ve been budgeting just fine and making things work, but things add up during the holidays: dinners, gifts, parties, all that stuff, and I just wanted to have some extra cushion.”
“I think that’s really smart. It’s nice to see you don’t mind working hard.”
“How did you come to own a costume shop?”
“Worked here as a teenager, so after uni the old man was selling it and he took a chance on me. Been running it for four years now.”
“Shit, you’re really young to be doing all of this.” She looks at him wide eyed. “I still have to call my mom to ask her if I should separate my delicates from the rest of my wash, and here you are…owning and running a business.”
Harry swallows, and nods at her.
“Um, let me show you how the register works, and then we can open up.”
They get up and go back out front. He shows her the prices for everything that he keeps on a laminated sheet of paper. She listens to him intently, nodding along and taking mental notes.
//
It was a little slow in the beginning, so Harry has Y/N put away some costumes that people left in the dressing rooms. A small rush comes in right at noon, and they work together to get everyone settled.
“No, I wanna be Batman!” Y/N hears a small girl whale out at her father.
“But you’d look so pretty as Cinderella, honey.” He pleads with his daughter.
“Pardon me.” Y/N says. “We have tons of Batman costumes in girls sizes.” She smiles.
“You do?” He asks her.
“Sure! Lots of girls like dressing up like super heroes, and their costumes cover up a lot more, so it’s much more practical. She’ll stay warm and won’t trip over a long dress.” She leads them over to the area. “And she’ll still look plenty cute.”
“Alright.” He sighs with defeat. “Batman it is.”
“Yay!” The little girl exclaims as she snatches a costume off the rack.
Y/N looks over and sees that Harry was watching the interaction. He gives her a thumbs up, and goes back to the register. They take their lunch breaks at different times, and when the end of the day comes she lingers while he checks everything over at his desk.
“You can go, Y/N. Good first day.”
“I…well, this is sort of embarrassing, but I walked here because I live close by, but it’s raining…”
“Oh…you need a ride?”
“If you wouldn’t mind.” Her face flushes. “I can order an uber if you-“
“I don’t mind.” He gives her a soft smile. “Sit on the couch if you like, I’ve got a few things I need to finish up.”
She nods and does as he says. She scrolls through her apps on her phone while she waits for him. She hears him sigh, and he knuckles at his eyes before standing up.
“Alright, let’s go. Where do you live?”
“Just over at The Ledges.”
“No shit? I live there too.”
“Seriously?!” She stands. “Okay, now I don’t feel bad.” She chuckles.
“No need to feel bad regardless.” He puts his coat on, grabs his keys, and they head out. He double checks that the doors are locked, and they make their way to his car. He even opens the door for her. “What building are you in?”
“Five, you?”
“Three. Got a roommate or anything?”
“Yeah, I live with a girl in the same program as me. She’s nice enough, we’re still getting to know each other, but we like a lot of the same movies and music, so it’s been easy to hang out when we have time. What about you?” She tucks some loose strands of hair behind her ear. “Got a roommate?”
“Nope.” He says proudly. “Can finally afford to live on my own, which has been nice.”
“Doesn’t that get lonely, though?”
“Not really.” He shrugs. “Most of my time is spent at the shop talking to people all day, so I don’t really mind the quiet once I’m home.”
“Not even a pet to keep you company?”
“I’ve just learned to take care of myself properly, I don’t think I’m quite ready to keep another thing alive.” She laughs at that and it makes him smile.
“You’re really funny, you know that?” He pulls up to her building once he’s turned into the complex. “Thank you so much for the ride, I really appreciate it. I definitely would have caught a cold if I walked in that rain.”
“Anytime, seriously, don’t be afraid to ask.”
She nods and gets out. He makes sure she’s inside before making the turn to his own building.
//
Harry drove Y/N home most evenings. Her help was the best he’s had in a long time, maybe he could afford to hire her on like a regular employee…only if she wanted. She was personable with the customers, and he noticed she’d pick an accessory to wear during all of her shifts to get into the Halloween spirit. One day it was a tiara and a sash, another day it was cat ears, and another it was devil’s horns. Harry would mostly wear graphic tees with old movie posters on them. She thought it was cute. Y/N noticed how well Harry was with the customers too. The kids adored him, so it seemed.
It really didn’t take much for Y/N to develop a crush on Harry. From the moment she walked into his shop she thought he was handsome, but as she got to know him she realized his personality was just her type. She tried to be sneaky decipher whether he was seeing someone or not. There were no pictures of girls on his desk, other than a family photo of him, his mother, and sister. Harry wore a lot of rings, but nothing that screamed he was in a relationship or married. Surely he would mentioned it by now if he was, right? She even got a glimpse at his lock screen on his phone, and all it was, was a picture of a sunflower.
“Just ask him out, Y/N.” Her roommate, Ronnie, says to her one evening over wine and popcorn as they watch The Addams Family. “What do you have to lose?”
“My job.”
“You’re a seasonal employee. As soon as Halloween hits, you’re done there.”
“Not true, he asked me to stay through November. He has sales throughout November so people can buy costumes at a discount. Also, a ton of people come to get fitted for Santa costumes, so I’ll be there a bit longer than anticipated.” She takes a sip from her glass. “I think that if he liked me he would have made a move.”
“He could be thinking the exact same thing about you! And from what you’ve told me, he seems either too shy or too respectful to do something like that. I mean, you work for him, he wouldn’t want you to think he was harassing you.”
“Hm, I never thought of it like that.” She chews on her bottom lip. “Maybe…maybe I could ask him to dinner one night after work. That wouldn’t be totally weird, would it? He drives me home anyways…”
“I think that’s a great idea. Totally casual, off the cuff.”
“Exactly, like, smooth…cool.” She takes a bite of some popcorn. “I don’t know if I can do that.”
“Y/N, you wrangle middle school kids for half the week, asking a guy out should be a cakewalk.”
//
Saturday Y/N decides to wear a sweater dress over some leggings, and goes with a small witch’s hat that’s on a headband to add some flare to her look. Harry had given her a key since he trusted her, so she lets herself in. She goes right to the back to go say hello. Harry was in the kitchen finishing up his coffee.
“Morning.” He says to her.
“Morning.” She takes a deep breath. “Um, do you have plans tonight, like, after work?”
He furrows his brows as he thinks about it, taking one final sip of his coffee before rinsing his mug in the sink.
“Don’t think so, why?” He almost wished he had made something up. It was sort of lame to not have plans on a Saturday night, wasn’t it?
“Well, I was wondering if I could take you to dinner…” His eyes grow wide at her, so she back-peddles. “You know, as a thank you for being so great to me, and driving me home and stuff.”
“You…you don’t have to thank me for anything, Y/N. You’ve been the best temp I’ve ever hired.” He watches as she looks down at her feet. “But, um, dinner sounds good either way.”
“Really?” She perks up as she makes eye contact once again.
“Yeah, where were you thinking?”
“Nowhere special…do you like Mexican? We could go to Chipotle…” It sounded awful leaving her lips, but it was all she could really afford at the moment.
“I love it there, that sounds good.”
“Great.” She smiles and walks over to the coffee maker to pour herself some. She slips around him to get the creamer out of the fridge. “I’m looking forward to it.”
Harry was distracted all day. Y/N rarely wore dresses to work. Had she dressed up in hopes they’d be going out together later that evening. He looks down at himself, and he’s thankful he decided on a black jumper. Was this a date, or was this to be a casual dinner between two people who work together? He really couldn’t be sure. He thought Y/N was insanely attractive, she was lovely inside and out, but he was her boss so that made things a little…sticky for him. She was around the same age as him, so it wouldn’t be weird if they went out, and she was the one to initiate dinner. So it’s not like he was using any sort of position of power over her.
Around lunch time a boy that works at the coffee shop from across the street comes in. Harry greets him, and he says he’s looking for Y/N.
“She’s in the back on her break.” Harry says. “Do you want me to get her?”
“That’d be great.” The boy smiles.
“Hey, Y/N? There’s someone here to see you.”
“Oh?” She swallows the bite of veggie wrap and stands up to see who it is. “Hey, Charlie.” She smiles.
“Hi.” He smiles back at her. “I…I snagged you some of those chocolate chip cookie squares you like so much.”
“You didn’t have to do that.” She comes from around the counter to hug him. “That is so sweet, thank you.”
Harry’s jaw tenses as he tries not to pay attention. He was looking over receipts at the register, but he couldn’t help but be a little nosey.
“No problem.” He hands her the small bag. “Um, I know it’s last minute, but would you wanna catch a movie tonight?”
“Oh, that’s so nice of you to ask, but I actually already have dinner plans tonight, so I can’t.” She gives him a soft smile.
“Alright, another time, maybe?”
“Sure.” She nods, and then he makes his way out. She goes back behind the counter. “Harry, you have to try one of these, they’re so good, nice and chewy. I get them all the time.”
“Clearly.” He reaches into the bag to take one out. “You know, if you wanted to go out with him…you could have…”
“Why would I break our date that I literally just asked you to this morning to go out with someone else?” Ah, so it was a date, he thinks to himself as he bites off a piece of the cookie. “Good, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Charlie’s nice enough, but I don’t like him like that.”
Harry leaves the conversation as that when she goes back to finish her lunch. Did she like him like that? Was that it? Dinner couldn’t come soon enough.
//
The ride to Chipotle is comfortably quiet, the radio could be heard just over the rumble of the streets. Y/N bumps Harry with her hip when he tries to pay for their food, shoving her card into the chip insert. She told him to go grab a table in a snappy way that made him smirk, but he listened to her regardless. He finds a quieter table for two and sets their things down. She comes over with some napkins and sits down.
“You really didn’t have to pay for me.” He says.
“Try again.”
“Thank you.” He sighs.
“Much better.” She smirks and dives into her burrito bowl. “I see you went with the tacos, those are my second favorite.”
“I love tacos, obsessed with them really. I must make them for dinner twice a week.”
“Really?” She asks with a giggle.
“Only because I usually have leftovers. I try to meal prep and stuff like that.”
“Same here! Every Sunday I go to the market, and cook up a storm when I get back. Then it’s all done, and you don’t have to worry.”
“Exactly.” He smiles and takes a bite of his food. It was a little messy, but she didn’t seem to mind. “So, what made you wanna grab a bite tonight?”
She nearly chokes on her food, and she takes a sip of her water.
“Um…I…well…” She stops talking and just looks at him. “I just thought it might be nice to do something outside of work for a change. It’s nice sharing a meal with someone, you know?”
He nods at her and takes another bite of his food. He asks her questions about school, and how things were going balancing working at a middle school and being a TA. She explains that she’s very organized, so she hasn’t been terribly stressed. She was looking forward to her school’s winter break so she could just work at the middle school and not teach at the same time. They had lost track of time, sitting there for over an hour talking. He drives her to her building, and she lingers in his car for a moment.
“That was fun.” She says to him.
“Yeah…thanks again for paying.”
“Don’t mention it.”
“Do…do you have plans on Halloween?”
“Aren’t we doing that trick or treat thing at the shop?”
“That’s the evening before.”
“Oh, right! Here I am telling you I’m organized and I can’t get my days straight.” She takes her phone out to look at her calendar. “I think Ronnie and I were planning to put a bowl of candy out in the hallway and watch movies…why?”
“Well, I have a party to go to…my mate Niall throws a Halloween party every year…would you like to come with me?”
Her eyes widen, and he feels like he’s made a mistake. Had he misinterpreted everything?
“That’s only a week away, where on earth am I going to get a costume on such short notice?” She looks at him seriously, and then she laughs.
“Good fucking thing I own a costume shop, or you’d be shit out of luck.” He laughs. “Is that a yes, then?”
“Yeah.” She smiles and leans over the console to give him a peck on the cheek. “See you Monday.” She gets out of the car, tummy full of butterflies, and goes inside her building.
//
Ronnie was thrilled for Y/N’s upcoming date, and didn’t mind her breaking her roommate date at all. When Monday rolls around, Y/N can’t wait to see Harry. He was running around when she got in, and he basically yelled at her to get busy. He texted her Sunday night to warn her that the week of Halloween was usually wild with last minute costume buyers. The two of them run around, and don’t close up until nearly nine.
“I can come in tomorrow and Thursday if you need me to.” She tells him as they walk to his car.
“I don’t want you to be stressed out.”
“I won’t be! I’ll be stressed knowing you’re doing all of that alone. Please, you don’t even need to pay me.”
“Y/N.” He chuckles as he drives her home. “Don’t be silly, I’ll pay you. You can come in if you need the extra hours.”
“Alright.” She nods. “Have you already decided on your costume?”
“I think while we’re at the store it would be fun to dress up as a witches?”
“Definitely, and for the party?”
“You…you wanna dress as a pair for that?”
“Well, we’re going as a pair, so I thought that would be fun…but we don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
“Okay.” He pulls up to her building and he turns to face her. “Niall’s dressing like Barney from the Flintstone’s and his girlfriend is gonna dress up like Betty, so I was wondering how you’d feel if we dressed like Fred and Wilma…”
“Do you have those costumes at the shop?”
“Yeah, in the back.”
“That sounds like a great idea.”
“Really? Not too cliché?”
“Not at all, I think it could be fun.”
“Great, I can pull everything out for you tomorrow, and you can tell me how it all fits.”
//
It was a busy week, but worth it to see all of the little kids come by the shop. Y/N and Harry made quite the pair of witches. He had invited her back to his place for a movie after everything was all said and done. Tomorrow would be another busy day with the really last minute people, but he wasn’t worried about it.
“Right, so, make yourself at home. I’m just gonna get us some snacks. Can I get you anything to drink?” He says to her as he leads her inside his flat. “I’ve got water, soda, seltzer water…”
“Anything with alcohol in it?” She chuckles. “Long week, you know?”
“Oh, sure! I’ve got these pumpkin ciders you might like, they’re really good.”
“Sounds perfect. Do you need help with anything?”
“No, go sit.” He smiles, and she goes to make herself comfortable on his couch.
Her eyes scan over his living area, it was nicely decorated. He had some decals in the windows for Halloween, little black cats and pumpkins, it was cute. He comes in shortly with some cheese and crackers, and a couple of ciders.
“I threw some pizza rolls into the oven, thought this could hold us over for now.” He says as he sits.
“Good thinking, thank you. This is a nice place, just a one bedroom?”
“Mhm.” He smiles. “I like living here a lot, it’s the perfect location if I need to get to the shop quick.” They each take a sip of the cider as he grabs the TV remote. “You like it?”
“Yeah! It’s delicious. So, what are we watching?”
“How do you feel about Beetlejoice?”
“It’s one of my all-time favorites.”
“Thank god.” He says with relief. “It’s one of my favorites too. I don’t love super scary movies, but ones like these are fun.”
“I’m the same way. I don’t get that thrill other people do from being scared.”
He queues up the movie and presses play. She takes her sneakers off so she can sit with her feet under her, and he likes that she’s able to get so comfortable. He hears the ding from his oven timer and goes to retrieve the pizza rolls.
“They’re really hot, gotta let them sit. I don’t want you to bun yourself.” He grabs the blanket from the back of the couch. “Here, you look cold.” She smiles and takes the blanket from him, draping it over her legs. “Let me know when you want a refill too.”
“I will, thank you, Harry.”
He sits back on the couch and pops a cracker into his mouth. This was normal behavior him. He often doted on her in the shop. If she fell asleep at the table during her lunch break she’d miraculously wake up on the couch in the office, or with a blanket draped over her shoulders and the lights dimmed. He knew how tired she had to be, working so much. She didn’t mind it one bit. She was used to taking care of herself, it was sort of nice to let someone else take a turn.
“We can share if you want.” She speaks up as she sees him cross his arms over his body. “If you’re cold too.”
“Are you sure?”
“It’s your blanket.” She chuckles, and places some of it over his legs. “There, all cozy.”
They devour the pizza rolls, and drink three cider’s each during the movie. They laugh at the funny parts, and are quiet during the more serious parts. She looks away a couple of times, and even squeezes his hand during one of the scarier scenes. They didn’t touch other than that, though. He didn’t want to make things awkward before the party.
“Oh, I love this part at the end with the football team.” She giggles and finishes her last drink. “I’m really glad we did this tonight.” She turns her body to look at him.
“Me too.” He stands up, and starts cleaning everything up. She follows him into the kitchen with the empty cans. “You don’t have to do that.”
“I don’t mind.” She tosses them in the recycling bin he has next to the trash.
“I can walk you home if you want.”
“That’s okay, I think I can make it.”
“I really don’t mind.”
“Don’t be silly, Harry.”
“Will you…at least text me when you get back?”
“Sure.” She nods and gets her shoes and jacket on. He walks her to his door with his hands in his pockets.
“I can pick you up before work tomorrow if you like.”
“That I’ll definitely take you up on. It’s gonna be cold tomorrow, I think.” She throws her arms around him and kisses his cheek quickly. “Thanks for a nice night.”
“Bye.”
He sighs as she leaves, and sighs heavier as she makes her way out of the building. She gets inside her own flat and tells Ronnie everything.
“Shit! I forgot to text him!”
Y/N: so sorry, I got in like 10 min ago
Harry: no worries, glad you got in safe
Y/N: thanks again for a really nice night…you’re fun to watch movies with
Harry: you’re welcome, and so are you
“God, why does he have to be so sweet?”
“So, he really didn’t make any moves?”
“No.” She sighs. “We shared a blanket, but that was about it, and I was too nervous to do more than to touch his hand a couple of times.” She groans and sits down on the couch with a huff. “Like…are we dating? Just friends? I’d love to know.”
“You should ask him.”
“You can’t just ask that sort of thing!”
“Why not?!”
“Because it’s awkward. Ugh, I just had to go work for someone like him. Why couldn’t it have been some old lady?”
//
The work day goes by like normal. Y/N uses ladies room to get into her Wilma costume. Harry had given her an orange wig for the hair, and she got it up into a decent enough bun. The dress was really cute on her figure, and she felt good about it. She’d be cold, but only for the couple of minutes she’d be outside. Harry was waiting for her in the main area with his Fred costume. He was not wearing a wig.
“I’m pretty sure Fred Flinstone has black hair.” She runs a hand through his curls and his face flushes. “But I suppose this will do.”
“You look great, Y/N.”
“You think so?” She does an innocent twirl. “Not too skimpy?”
“Not at all.” He smiles.
They drive to Niall’s, and Y/N is welcome with open arms from the second they walk in. Everyone at the party had great costumes, and she was happy her and Harry went all out. There was music playing, plenty of snacks and drinks, and even a few games. People were playing beer-pong in the kitchen, others were playing some card games. There were some people dancing in the living area. Y/N wondered if some other grad students were mixed into the bunch.
“Want something to drink?” Harry asks her and she nods yes. He takes her by the hand and leads her to the drink cart in the kitchen. He looks at her with raised eyebrows.
“Vodka tonic, please.”
“Coming right up.” He makes two drinks, and hands her one. “Let me know if It’s too strong.”
“Mm.” She takes a sip. “It’s perfect.”
Much to her surprise, Harry keeps an arm around her shoulders for most of the night as they mingled with his friends. It was loose around her, but he was making it pretty clear to anyone else looking at them that she was spoken for. They didn’t drink too much, enough to have a healthy buzz, but not so much that Harry wouldn’t be able to drive later.
“Are you having fun?” He says into her ear. She looks up at him and nods yes. He smiles and goes back to the conversation he was having with Niall.
Y/N liked Harry’s friends. They were all really nice, and did their best to include her in the chit chat. It was a fun night. A little after midnight they decide to call it quits, and head out. Y/N takes the wig off and shakes her hair out the second they’re in the car.
“Man, that thing was itchy.” She runs a hand through her hair and looks at him. “What?” He was already looking at her.
“You’re…you’re just so…” He reaches for her and cups her cheeks in his large hands. They were barely an inch apart, and she could feel his breath fanning over her face. “I really want to kiss you.”
“Please.” She nods slightly, and then he does it.
His lips slot between hers, and her eyes flutter closed. His lips were soft, and he tasted like the mint from the gum he was chewing. Her hands move to the collar of his costume and she tugs him closer to her. He pulls away just as she was opening her mouth a little more, her lips moving towards him. His forehead presses to her.
“Fuck, I…I’ve wanted to do that since the day you walked into the shop, but-“
“Do you wanna go back to my place?”
He nods yes, and throws the car in drive, speeding to their complex. His hand rests on her thigh, squeezing it occasionally, reminding her that he was there and this was happening. He parks in one of the free spaces in front of her building, and gets out of the car. He jogs around the other side and opens her door for her. The air was cold, but the heat radiating between the two of them was scorching. He helps her out of the car, and his lips are on hers again. They shuffle to the main entrance, and she keys in. He’s about to push her up against the wall, but she pushes on his chest.
“Cameras.” She says against his lips, and she tugs him down the hall, and to the elevator.
He keeps his hands to himself while in the elevator, unsure of more cameras, but when she gets them to her door he puts his hands on her shoulders as he stands behind her.
“Is Ronnie home?” He whispers in her ear and goosebumps raise on her skin.
“N-no, she decided to visit some friends for the weekend.”
She keys into the apartment, and she just barely gets the door closed when she’s being pushed up against the wall. If she had the strength to pick him up and carry him to her room she would, but she can’t, so she just tugs on him to move further into the flat. His lips felt so good on hers, and she sucks his bottom lip into her mouth, causing him to groan against her. She finally gets him in her room, and she pushes him back onto her bed. She straddles him immediately, and his hands squeeze at her hips.
“Are you sure you wanna do this?” He asks as he looks up at her. “It’s not too fast?”
“Consider it third date sex, I’m good with it if you are.” She reaches for the hem of her dress and lifts it off herself, revealing a white lace set of underwear. His hands slide up and down her sides.
“Third date, huh?” He smirks.
She leans down to kiss him.
“Chipotle.” Her teeth tug at his bottom lip and she lets it snap back. “The movie last night.” She sucks a mark into his neck, just under his earlobe. “And tonight.” She sits back up. “So, no, I don’t think this is too fast, do you?”
“No.”
He flips her over onto her back, and she giggles as he works to get his costume off. He hovers over her, and kisses down her neck. He mouths over her covered nipples and sucks on her through the fabric. Her hips buck up towards him as he continues working his way down her body. Her heart was about ready to beat out of her chest.
“Wh-what are you doing?” She asks just as his lips go right below her belly button.
“Uh…I was going to take your underwear off, if that’s alright.”
“And then what?”
“I’d love to have a taste of you, if you let me.”
“You really wanna do that? It…it doesn’t gross you out?”
“What’s gross about it?” He smirks. “This right here?” He cups her mound and she whimpers. “One of the greatest wonders of the world. So, can I?”
“Yes.”
He hooks his fingers into her panties, and he tugs them down her legs. He kisses on her hips as he opens her legs. He sucks on each of her lips before licking up her slit. He swirls his tongue around her clit, which was positively throbbing for him. He wraps her lips around the small bud and sucks. Her mouth falls open and her hands fly to his hair.
“Oh, fuck.” She moans.
He moans against her, and it just makes her pool between her legs even more him. He was really enjoying this, which was making her enjoy it even more than usual. It was usually a force with guys her age, but Harry had no problem with it. If she didn’t want to suck his dick before, she definitely did now.
Harry removes his mouth from, only for a moment, to suck his middle and ring fingers into his mouth. He slides them through her folds, and then carefully slips them inside her center. She gasps from the stretch at first, and then she feels like she’s melting into the bed. His mouth goes back to her clit while his fingers curl up inside her to pet against her front wall. Her hips start moving along with the rhythm of his fingers, chasing her release.
“Shit, Harry, ngh.” She was panting now.
Her legs move over his shoulders and her heels dig into his back. He groans against her as she falls apart underneath him. He works her through it, giving her clit slow licks as he pulls his fingers from her. He sucks his fingers into his mouth. They make eye contact, briefly, before she’s pinning him down, and she’s yanking his boxers off. Her eyes widen when she sees his length slap back against his lower tummy. She pecks his lips before getting situated between his legs.
Y/N licks up the underside of his hard length, and his head falls back. Her mouth wraps around his tip and she suckles on it before popping off. She spits into her hand and wraps it around him to pump him slowly. She cradles his balls and moves to suck and lick gently on them.
“Oh, dear god.” He moans. “Y/N, I’ll come if you keep doing that.”
“Do you wanna just fuck now? Wanna fuck me, Harry?” She pouts at him.
He was surprised by her. He nods at her, and she smirks at him. She gets up and takes her bra off while she walks into her bathroom to grab a condom. She tosses it to him as she knees back onto the bed. He rips it open and rolls it on, and he gets back on top of her. He rolls the head of his cock between her folds and around her clit before pushing inside her.
“Still sure? I can stop.”
“No, please, I want it, Harry.”
He smiles and continues to push inside her. She grits her teeth at the feeling. Once he’s all the way in he gives her a moment before slowly pulling back out. He sinks back inside her, and that’s when it starts to feel good. She was nice and tight around him, not that he really cared. He knew it would feel good because he liked her so much. He did wonder, though, when the last time someone had the privilege to stretch her out like this.
“You feel so fucking good.” He says and leans down to suck on her bottom lip. His hands move to knead her breasts, and she moans.
She wraps her legs around his waist to pull him even closer. She just want him to smother her. She moves her hips up to rock along with his, and she gasps when she feels him hit her g-spot.
“Fuck, just like that, don’t stop.”
“Yeah? Like that?”
“Fuck, Harry, yeah, keep going.”
He had per panting again, and her nails were scratching down his back. It felt good, though, to feel her just about breaking his skin because he’s making her feel so good. Her back arches off the bed as she comes undone again, and he presses hard inside her so she can really feel it. She thought maybe he had come too since he was pulling out, but he grips her hips and flips her onto her stomach. He pulls her back, spreads her apart, and pushes back inside her.
“Oh!” She gasps.
“This okay?” He grunts.
“More than okay, fuck.” She pushes back against him and he nearly chuckles.
Quick, deep strokes were entering her. Her bed was shaking, and her cheeks were straight up getting clapped. It was such a breath of fresh air to be with man who knew what to do with it. He grips the back of her neck to steady himself as his thrusts get sloppy.
“I’m gonna come.” He groans. “Shit, I’m gonna-“ He moans out as he spills into the condom.
He was so vocal, and she really liked that. He pulls out of her slowly, and takes the condom off.
“Trash is over there.” She breathes and points towards her desk. He nods and gets up to dispose of it. She gets up and waddles into her bathroom to use her toilet. When she comes back out he’s getting his boxers back on. “You, um, don’t need to leave if you don’t want to.”
“Normally I’d stay, but…” He runs a hand through his hair. “Sort of embarrassing to walk back tomorrow morning as Fred Flinstone.” He smirks.
“Right.” She nods as she throws on a bed shirt, suddenly feeling exposed and vulnerable.
“But I could stay a little longer, lay with you a bit.”
“I don’t want you to be upset if you fall asleep.”
“I won’t be…suppose it would be funny.” He comes over to her and gives her a kiss on the forehead before going into her bathroom.
He gets into bed with once he’s done, and she snuggles up to his side, laying her head on his chest. Her fingers trace around his various tattoos. He rubs her back, and it lulls her to sleep.
//
The next morning she wakes up to an empty bed. Where he was laying wasn’t even warm so he must have left soon after she fell asleep. She sighs and takes a shower, washing her night away. She checks her phone, and smiles, all worry leaving her body.
Harry: slipped out after you fell asleep, hope you don’t think I’m one of those guys…I had a lot of fun, talk at work Monday?
Y/N: definitely don’t think you’re one of those guys…now lol yeah, let’s talk Monday
She sighs and sits at her desk to get some grading done. Or she was hopeful to get work done. The ache between her legs was proving to be pretty distracting.
//
Y/N takes a deep breath before walking into the shop Monday afternoon. There were plenty of customers buying discounted costumes, so Harry’s only able to smile at her as she slips into the backroom to hang her coat up.
“I guess…do you think he’ll still like this in a year?” The woman asks Harry.
“I’m not gonna like to you, he easily couldn’t, but if I know kids, they like to have options. If he ends up having a couple of parties to go to, he won’t want to wear the same costume to each event.”
“That’s true…alright, you’ve sold me, Harry.”
“Excellent! I’ll you ring you up.”
Y/N brushes behind Harry as he works the register. The whole evening was busy, so when he’s finally able to put the closed sign up, he’s relieved to see her sitting standing in the office.
“Hey.” He says to her.
“Hi.” She blushes.
His hands grip her hips and he effortlessly lifts her up onto the desk. He presses his forehead to hers.
“Y/N, I know we’ve become close, but I’ve been feeling conflicted because I’m also your boss, and the last thing I wanna do is take advantage of the situation.”
“Hey.” She says, cupping his cheeks so he’ll look at her. “We weren’t even at work…everything we’ve done has been outside of this place. You didn’t do anything wrong. Do you regret the other night?”
“No, not at all.” His hands rest on her thighs as he stands between her legs. He tucks some hair behind her ear. “I just don’t really know what to do here.”
“Well, it’s not like I’ll be working here much longer, just until the end of November, right?”
“Right.”
“So…do you wanna, like, keep dating? Going out and stuff?”
“I’d really like that. I want us to keep getting to know each other. I wish I had stayed the whole night the other night. I felt like such a dick for leaving.”
“Don’t, it’s fine. I would have done the same thing.” She smiles and then bites her bottom lip. “Besides, you’ll have plenty of other opportunities to sleepover.”
“I will?” He smiles.
She nods and he leans in to kiss her. Harry was a simple guy who owned a costume shop, and thanks to the girl in grad school he hired for the season, he made it through Halloween yet again. This time, instead of celebrating his profits with Niall down at the pub, he was kissing the very same girl that took his breath away when she walked in.

Oh thank goodness I found you. I know that's a random introduction but as a post grad MLS haver, I need some solid career advice. I've been trying for 3 months to get a job at a library doing LITERALLY ANYTHING so I can work up to being a librarian. I was even interviewed twice for the same position at a library. I was rejected the first time bc I had 'no library experience' even though it was an entry level job and the second time bc 'it looks like you really want to be a librarian' and even after explaining that I want literally ANY JOB in a library I was still rejected. It's super fucking frustrating, how do I differentiate myself from other candidates? I've been using a short resume and a cover letter and even linked my ePortfolio. Any help is appreciated! :)
First of all, I'm sorry that you've had such a frustrating search, when it's clear that you've worked very hard to accomplish your MLS. So, before I give you any advice, I want to make two things clear:
Luck is a huge factor of career success.
With #1 in mind, don't beat yourself up over failures. Sometimes, you're just unlucky, and that's all.
Because of a lot of factors, this is going to take time. Most of these factors-- the fact that the library profession is aging and shrinking, among them-- are going to be out of your control. What's in your control is your skills and your experience, so while you're casting around looking for a library job, try to keep those relevant. One way is through volunteering. Another way is through finding work similar to the library work you want. To start, think about what in library work you like to do the most. Do you enjoy reference? Reader's advisory? Event programming? Metadata and cataloging? There's work out there related to that, even if it's not in a library. Reference and reader's advisory happen in most retail spaces, especially for books, movies, and games. Event programming can be akin to party planning. And metadata and cataloging-- my gods, anywhere you look, people selling things, especially on the internet-- need it cataloged and listed properly. Also, don't be afraid to cast your net wider than libraries. Museums, art galleries, parks, schools, and even book/journal/database vendors all can have places for librarians and folks with library degrees. Same with public facilities like your local Parks and Recreation department. When you look for volunteer work, look along those same lines too. Be upfront and honest that you're looking to pad your resume and get some career experience. Plenty of places will understand, and will help you make connections that you can later ask for references. And finally, look around at your local and state-- if any-- library associations. They're a great way to meet people and learn new things, and a lot of times, they'll have opportunities and discounts for library school students or people new to the profession.
Good luck!

thanks for being open to questions! firstly, where did you get your degree & what was your program like? anything in particular you liked or disliked? did you have any particular focus? where did you hope your degree would take you & how did you expect to apply it? i’m asking these questions as someone interested in museum studies and hoping to pursue the field of museum education (unsure if u know anything about that), but my interests lie in art + fashion history & dress + performance theory
No problem!
I got my degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, in the Fashion & Textile History, Theory, and Museum Practice graduate program, and it was great. The program is focused on learning museum skills, most specific to clothing and other textiles as well as decorative arts (it started as a broad “historic house skills” program and has gone through a number of changes to get to where it is now), and you choose between the curatorial and conservation tracks. Both tracks are largely the same, since everyone takes the history of fashion/textiles, costume mounting/handling, and introductory conservation courses, but in the third and fourth semesters the conservation students take a more advanced conservation course plus two history- or theory-focused classes (and the exhibition practicum) while the curatorial students take three history/theory classes (and the exhibition practicum). Outside of that, any focusing you do is informal - most papers and presentations are assigned with broad requirements as to topic. I didn’t really twig to this myself, so my papers tended to be kind of like “what’s interesting to me today?” which is fine too. It would probably be smarter to have tried to keep to a theme, but nobody’s going to make you.
What’s good about this program:
Lots of alumnae in lots of collections, so if you’re good at that kind of thing you could probably network well
Gives you a thorough overview of fashion and decorative arts history, especially from about 1700 on
Instructors are very knowledgeable, and some of them are from other institutions so you build more connections and get the benefit of their on-the-job expertise
FIT has its own museum, which gives you some advantages in access to extant pieces beyond a study collection
Being in Manhattan, there are dozens of possibilities for your internship(s)
Students are all ages, from people directly out of undergrad (like I was) to longtime museum workers having their knowledge certified, which is a great experience for everyone
The downsides are really more downsides for everyone. I mean, the only program-specific ones I can think of are “I found the department chair extremely intimidating, which was partly my fault because I kept screwing up around her”, “they never really teach you what collections management is, which can be a problem if you apply for a collections management job”, and “the exhibition practicum is hell for every class and the Museum at FIT has the potential to make it Extra Hell if they choose to punish you for very silly reasons”. The bigger issue is that the Recession tanked the museum job market as lots of positions were eliminated and grads from all programs had to compete with experienced professionals for the openings, and COVID just went and tanked it even more, since it had never actually recovered. When I started in the program (in 2009), the placement rate for graduates was at something like 50% - for my cohort, I think it worked out to something like 25%. In my class of ~16, I can only think of one other person who is currently working in a museum (well, fashion archive - Calvin Klein) and one person who’s a professional conservator. A few others are working in the fashion industry more broadly. I had to volunteer while working retail etc. for years and then be badly underpaid for a few more years to get to where I am now, and I imagine that at this time and for the next couple of years, nobody is getting hired at all.
On a lighter note, you will learn all kinds of things and still have to watch people get applauded on social media for the dumbest and wrongest takes on historical fashion. Despite the fact that the degree is very versatile, I personally think having "fashion and textile history” on your resume when applying for jobs in more general museums is a strike against you, although I don’t know for sure.
What I was really hoping for out of this degree was to work in a fashion museum or collection, like the Fashion Museum in Bath or the Costume Institute at the Met, where I could drill down and work specifically with what I’m really good at. I would still like that, but to be honest I don’t think I ever will. 1) I’m putting down roots here and buying a house. 2) It’s kind of nice to be The Fashion Expert in a history/art museum rather than just someone who does the thing we all do (and I disagree with other fashion historians enough that I think I would get annoyed in that situation). 3) From what I’ve heard about the Costume Institute, it’s a pretty bad work environment and I’m very sensitive to that kind of thing. To be honest, collections manager at a small/medium-size museum in upstate New York is a pretty good gig and I’m very contented right now - plus, I still exercise my expertise in fashion through AskHistorians and my burgeoning pattern company.
My interaction with museum education is limited, but the impression I’ve gotten is that a degree/experience in education is a lot more important than museum skills or, uh, knowledge of history. It can be a really rewarding thing to do, though! That usually involves dealing with school programs and managing interpreters (or being the interpreter, obvs), so in theory the curators will be providing the information and you would be presenting it.

If There’s a Place I Could Be - Chapter Eight
If There’s a Place I Could Be Tag
November 20th, 2000
“You’re absolutely sure you’ll be okay over Thanksgiving break?” Emile pressed Remy.
Remy rolled his eyes. “Yeah, Mom, I’ll be fine,” he said with a little scoff. “I don’t have to talk to my parents about dropping out of college, or moving out of the dorms, and my siblings don’t know either, so they can’t spill the beans. It’ll be five days of sleeping in my parent’s house and wishing they didn’t host Thanksgiving dinner for my family every year so I don’t have to be swamped by my cousins and aunts and uncles. I’ll be fine.”
“If you’re sure...” Emile said. “Just know my parents’ offer stands. They wouldn’t mind feeding five mouths instead of four.”
“I know,” Remy said. “But you don’t have to worry. I’ll be okay. I promise.”
  November 23rd, 2000
“So, let me get this straight,” Emile’s dad asked. “You met a boy in college, became friends with him despite his great reluctance to do so, and found out that he would hurt himself if he continued going to college, so you decided to offer to move in with him, and take on a job so that you can help with rent? And we have to pay less for your tuition because you’ll be living off campus?”
“Yeah, pretty much,” Emile said. “Remy hasn’t dropped out officially, yet, but he’s working through the papers and trying to find a second job to help in addition to Starbucks that means we won’t have to stretch our money as thin.”
“That’s amazing, Emile,” Dad said. “I can only see you doing that sort of thing. But it somehow makes complete sense when it’s you doing it.”
Emile ducked his head and continued to help peel potatoes for the Thanksgiving dinner. “I’m just really worried about Remy, honestly,” he said. “He had to go back to his parents’ for Thanksgiving because we don’t have the apartment yet, and they don’t know that he’s dropping out of college yet.”
“Wait, what? What do you mean, ‘they don’t know’?” Dad asked, placing a hand on Emile’s shoulder.
“I mean they don’t know, Dad,” Emile said. “His parents aren’t very supportive. He was going to college on his own dime, not theirs, because he wanted to go into whatever major he wanted. And he’s told me before that...that his parents favor his siblings over him.”
“What?!” his dad asked.
“He’s said it in passing multiple times, Dad. Even if it’s not true, he genuinely believes it, and based on everything else I’ve heard about his parents, I’m inclined to believe him on this,” Emile said, biting his lip.
“Well why couldn’t you invite him over here, then?” Dad asked.
“I tried!” Emile defended. “I said he was welcome to come home with me if he wanted, but he said he didn’t want to impose, and that his parents were expecting him home anyway. They don’t even know whether or not he has friends at college, Dad. He was worried that they might cut him out of the family if he didn’t go home, because the dorms definitely close over Thanksgiving, and they’d assume he’s gay if he decided to have Thanksgiving with us!”
“Is he gay?” Dad asked.
“Dad...I’m not comfortable sharing his preferences without his permission,” Emile whined in a whisper.
“So, that’s a yes, then,” Dad said knowingly.
“Yes. He’s gay, told me himself. Something tells me he doesn’t care who knows it, but his parents don’t. And I don’t think he’s anywhere near a safe enough spot to tell them,” Emile hissed.
“Tell that boy that if you two don’t have an apartment by Christmas, that he’s welcome over here. Those people sound like horrible family, and his parents ought to be ashamed of what they did to him,” Dad said firmly.
“Thanks, Dad, but we already have the money for a safety deposit and first month’s rent, it’s more a matter of me finding a job after the Christmas rush,” Emile said.
“Should I make a couple calls?” Dad asked.
Emile shook his head. “I don’t think so. It’s going to be a low-level retail-type job that I get, because that’s what I can work with school. No need for you to pull strings if I can’t even take the opportunity to use them.”
“Just remember, all you have to do is say the word,” Dad reminded him. “I’ll put my ear to the ground and see if anyone needs help out there.”
“I know,” Emile said. “Maybe when grad school happens, depending on how many classes I have to take. For now, though, I’m content working at, like, Target or something.”
“Who’s working at Target?” his mother asked from the edge of the kitchen.
“Hey, no, out! We don’t want you burning any of the food!” his dad said, playfully whipping a dishrag at her.
His mother took one step backward until she was out of the doorway to the kitchen, before crossing her arms. “Who’s working at Target?” she repeated.
“Well, it’s one of the places I’ve applied to,” Emile said. “Nothing definite. But...my friend Remy and I are going to be getting our own place off campus, and that’s my way of helping to pay the rent.”
“Oh,” his mother said, surprised. “Would this be the same Remy you told us about at the beginning of the school year?”
“Yeah, the one and the same,” Emile said. “College is killing him, but his parents aren’t nearly as supportive as you guys are, so I’m going to help him with rent on a place so that he doesn’t have to keep going to school.”
“Oh, okay then,” his mother said. “If you ever fall short the money for food or anything like that over the summer, let your father and myself know. We’ll come over armed with half a grocery store.”
Emile laughed. “I hope that won’t happen, but I promise to let you know. And when we can afford a landline, I will call you still. Until then, letters are going to be my new best friend.”
His mother smiled at him. “I really hope this works out for the both of you, Emile.”
“I do too,” Emile said, smiling.
“Now, I’ll go back to talking with your grandfather, you two just make sure that nothing ends up burning.”
“Will do, Mom,” Emile said with a playful salute.
She shook her head fondly and left sight quickly. Dad nudged him. “So, are you going to tell me more about Remy? We only really know his name, at this point.”
“Well, he’s got a pretty hard exterior,” Emile said. “It’s very hard to get past that, honestly. But he’s kinda sweet once you get to know him. I say ‘kinda’ because his parents did a number on him. But I’m slowly teaching him people skills, and he’s actually really good at making conversation, even if he doesn’t always read people correctly. He’s learned to not play off hurt feelings as a joke, by now, which is a huge improvement.”
His dad smiled at him and Emile offered a confused smile back. “What?”
“Oh, I’m sure it’s nothing,” his dad waved off.
“I’m sure it’s not,” Emile said. “What is it?”
“You seem rather fond of him,” he said.
“Well, yeah, he’s my friend,” Emile said, shaking his head as he started to mash the potatoes. “I don’t see your point here.”
“You’re bisexual, Emile,” Dad said. “He’s gay. You’re both in each other’s dating pool. You’re moving in together. Are you two...involved at all?”
“What?” Emile asked.
“There’s no shame in it if you are,” Dad rushed to assure him. “You just appear to be very fond of him.”
“Yeah, like, as a best friend thing, not in an I want to date him thing! I mean, he’s cute, sure, but like...he’s not...he’s not very nice, still. Like, he’s made so many improvements, and I’m proud of him for that, but I don’t think I could be with him the way he is right now,” Emile said. “He’s still mean sometimes. And I know that no one can be nice one-hundred percent of the time, even I’m not nice that much. But...I’m mean at maybe ten percent of the time. He’s mean, like, forty percent of the time.”
“Ah. I understand why you don’t like that ratio,” Dad said knowingly. “You always were the type who wouldn’t hang around the mean kids unless you could make them a little less mean.”
“Yeah. And I never dated anyone who didn’t act nice to people they didn’t know, because everyone deserves kindness,” Emile added. “Remy isn’t quite there yet. I like to think he could get there, but he isn’t right now.”
“He most certainly could get there, with you as his teacher, I have no doubt about that,” Dad said. “But he has to want it, first, and that’s the key to getting real progress.”
“I know,” Emile said. “And he doesn’t want it. At least, he doesn’t want any friends outside me. Has too many bad past experiences, apparently.”
Dad sighed. “Those are the hardest ones to gain trust from, Emile. I sincerely hope you never take advantage of the trust this Remy puts in you.”
“I would never dream of it,” Emile said with absolute certainty. “Remy is my friend, and I would never want to hurt him, ever.”
“Good,” Dad said with a nod. “Now, at the same time, you can’t be his therapist all the time, either. He needs a friend, not a clinical perspective. An outside view is healthy in moderation, but you have to make sure there is just that: moderation. It’s crucial to any friendship that you have an agreement that when it comes to priorities, each of you come first in your own respective lists. I know you want to help, Emile, and I know it’s hard to see people self-destruct. But if you’re not in a position to be helping that person without damaging yourself, the both of you will only end up more hurt.”
“I know all this, Dad,” Emile said patiently.
“I know you know it. But a refresher never hurts,” Dad replied easily.
Emile sighed and nodded to show Dad he understood, and they went back to cooking. Emile mashed the potatoes while Dad handled the gravy, and both of them kept one eye on the oven to make sure the turkey was being cooked properly. Emile took the cranberry sauce while Dad handled the corn, and soon enough, they had enough food prepared to feed themselves, Emile’s mom, and his grandfather.
Together, he and his Dad set everything up at the dinner table, and Mom and Grandpa came in as they heard the shuffle of feet and plates. “It looks amazing, as always,” Mom said.
Emile beamed. It wasn’t easy to set everything up for Thanksgiving, but it was worth it. And every year, he was becoming a bolder and better cook.
They sat down, said grace, and started to eat. Conversation was light, mostly about Emile’s time at college, the friends he had met, and his plans for the future. He mentioned that he was planning on moving in with Remy to his grandfather, but wisely chose to leave out the part about Remy’s abuse, and didn’t even touch the subject of him being bisexual. As much as he absolutely adored his grandfather, he did have a few...less than savory views on the queer community.
Once dinner was over, Dad and Grandpa went to the living room to watch the football game, while his mother pulled him aside, her face worried. “Emile, can we talk about your friend Remy for a minute?”
“Sure, I guess,” Emile said. “Should we go to my room, or something?”
“Somewhere private is best,” his mother agreed.
They went to his room and Emile sat on his bed, watching his mother pace the length of the room after the door was closed. “Are you certain that you want to move in with this friend, Emile?” she asked.
“Yeah, Mom, I’m sure.”
“You’re not just doing it because you think it will be better than the dorms? You’re aware that you’ll have to pay half the rent and utilities, and maybe even the food that isn’t covered by your meal plan?” Mom clarified.
“No, I’m not trying to escape the dorms, Mom. I’m doing it to help Remy, so that he doesn’t kill himself from overworking and stress. I know I’ll have to work hard over the summer, and even during the school year, to ensure that rent is paid. I know the risks.”
“And you know that Remy will hold up his end of the bargain? He won’t just skip out on you the second he gets the chance?”
“He doesn’t have a choice, Mom. I’m the only option he has if he doesn’t go to college,” Emile said.
Mom looked a little upset but nodded. “If you’re sure, then you have my blessing. Just, be careful, Emile.”
“Always, Mom,” Emile promised.
She left the room and Emile’s cell phone rang. He answered it without a second thought. “Hello?” he asked.
The shaky breathing on the other end of the phone made his hackles rise. “E-Emile...” Remy stammered out. “I...I thi-think I need help...”

Acceptance
I need to stop forcing myself to be something I am not. Today marks the first day where I am not in COMPLETE denial. I am okay with acknowledging that I may not be as good in International Relations as I hoped to be. Now that I think about it, “being good” isn’t even the problem. The problem is that I do not hope to pursue a career in International Relations, a degree I worked five years on in hopes of landing me my “dream job”. Actually, after spending so much of my early twenties forcing myself to become an expert in International Relations, I’m struggling to find my true identity. My life has been riddled with the aesthetics of my education as opposed to chasing what my honest heart truly desired. Now that I’ve accepted this fact about myself, I hope my journey to self-determination becomes easier. It explains why papers and in-class discussions never came easy to me. I worked my ass off to achieve good grades, but in the grand scheme of things, it was just for grades - it did not really benefit me in any other way (other than maybe having an edge in political discussions... or trivia). My interests for International Relations partially stems from the hope to be viewed as an intellect. To prove to everyone (family, friends, coworkers) that I could accomplish a university degree in a complex subject where I was somewhat interested into the topics. But is there passion? Is there a drive to throw myself into the depths of international politics, economics and history? On my free time, I do not delve into current events and listen in on world news podcasts. I confess, I am currently working as a sales associate for a fashion brand that I’ve admired since I was young and I am ACTUALLY enjoying what I do. It’s the first time I’ve felt that my skills truly matched a profession and even though I cannot fully accept this minimum wage job as a university grad, it makes me happy. Yes, I don’t want to work in retail forever but it’s the first step into a different direction (slightly more creative that political science perhaps). I need to tell myself that IT’S OKAY. I work with high school graduates and IT’S OKAY. I don’t earn as much as my friends who have full-time positions in laboratories, hospitals, and companies and IT’S OKAY. I have days where I feel incompetent and a failure and IT’S OKAY. You know why it’s okay? Because I know that this isn’t forever and there’s something greater for me. I want to believe in myself and to persevere in order to achieve a goal - it’s been awhile since I’ve had a sense of purpose. But it’s okay to be lost as long as you keep looking. My happiness derives from positive social interactions and my ability to create meaningful relationships with different types of people. I hope to take myself abroad and to gain experience through new opportunities. Maybe that’s why I chose International Relations. I needed context for the places I hope to visit/live. I want to be educated on topics such as colonialism, economic relations, and sociology so I am not ignorant towards foreign cultures and people. My degree was not an error, it was a stepping stone for what I want to do next. I realized that it is okay to change direction (however to actually change that direction is another story...). It is okay to admit that others are better than you. It is okay to not stay in academia. It is okay to be the least academic in your group. My abilities are unique and it makes me different, not worse-off. The post-grad depression hit me hard a few months ago, still is if I’m being honest. But I want that to change. And I can be the only one to change my life story. I can no longer base my success on how I do in relative to those around me. They do not write my story, I do. And it is time to get out of my slump and to brainstorm my next course of action. The first step is denial but I am now on the second step - acceptance. For those who feel the same way, know that you’re not alone. We are in this together and we’ll get out of this together. Keep on making mistakes as long as you keep on trying. Sending positive vibes and lots of love <3

hey Sara! 🌸🐇
this might be a personal or difficult question, so if you don't want to reply, that's totally fine!! 💕
i went to a school where i was lowkey taught that uni is the only option after graduation, that anything else isn't as "good" and we weren't even taught abt anything other than uni either. no one ever mentioned apprenticeships or voluntary years, let alone spoke positively of them. it honestly installed in me this fear of being seen as lesser if i don't go to uni and now it's been almost 4 years since my graduation and I'm still struggling with the inferiority feeling of not feeling like uni is the right place for me. i think i want to do an apprenticeship, but by now i feel almost too scared to start anything in fear of not managing.
did you deal with this kind of thing in your schooling/ upbringing as well? and how did you get over those feelings? :( if you have even the tiniest advice, id be super grateful 💙
Hey love!!! Happy new Year <3
I can totally relate to what you’re feeling!! I def had those same feelings and thoughts, and i am not gonna lie, it took me a while to figure out what i want to do, and how i stopped focusing on what other wanted of me. but i’m going to try to explain my thoughts, so please bare with me.
i had to put this in “keep reading” cause i word vomited lmao
I was lucky that i grew up in a family that always thought me, that i do everything in life for myself. I should always focus on what I want to do. BUT, i had extended family and a few friends that always talked about uni and doing something in life that is “not working in retail” (just an example) All they “wanted” me to do is make money.
My dad never finished high school and my mom started two apprenticeships that she never finished. I always knew i wanted to do more than what my parents did. And i don’t mean it a mean or bad way. (i hope you know what i mean)
i was a “gifted” kid in school, and good grades came easy to me, until i finished 10th grade and i started my A-level. Then i hit rock bottom. I actually never planed to do my A-level, but i had no idea what to do with my life in year 10, so i decided to go to school for 3 more years, so i have a little more time to figure stuff out. (Spoiler: i didn’t) When i decided to do my A-level (In germany you need it to even go to uni) i thought uhMm maybe i should go to uni because many people around me where starting to talk about it and made me feel that my decision of never going to uni was me planing on becoming “nothing”. Which is totally stupid. Not going to uni does NOT mean you’ll never become anything!
by the i finished my A-level, which i barely passed, i still had no idea of what i wanted to. the only thing i knew was, that i wanted to do something that brings me happiness and joy! And the only time i found happiness and joy was in books (and one direction lmao). So i started to think about the idea, that i could start working in a bookstore. But at that time, my friends already started Uni (med school, law etc.) and others went to go abroad to study. And i felt like i was worth less. But i also knew that going to uni would only further the descend of my mental health. So i really focused on working in a bookstore and do an apprenticeship as a bookseller.
Through a friend i got the opportunity of working in a bookstore (I applied before but i was sadly rejected). After the first day of work, i knew, this is what i wanted to do with my life. My mom always pushed me into applying for apprenticeships that i didnt wanna do, which i told her i didnt want, but it only caused many fights between us. but tbh ... i didnt care. i wanted to do what i wanted to do! So i focused on my carreer in the bokstore. i stopped focusing on what other people want to do in their lives, but rather focus on what I want to do.
so i worked at the bookstore for 2 years, then started my apprenticeship, then i worked for 4 months as a bookseller and now i’m the deputy manager of the store that i did my apprenticeship at. now i know i only got to this place and position because i stopped focusing on what other people wanted.
end of my biography but i feel like it needed to explain this to validate my points lmao
and heres what i can tell you, do what you want to do!!! if you dont want to go to uni, do not go. is there something that brings you joy? clothes? books? try working with something that you like, and figure out what you wanna do that way.
Other people think they help you when they try to push uni, grad school etc. into your life, cause they think that whats best for you. but you are the only one who knows whats best for you!
in bookseller school, half my class was people who dropped out of uni to start working. not going to uni or dropping out of uni doesnt make you any less amazing or capable of reaching your dreams.
the sad thing is, we need money to survive in this world, so you need to make money one way or another. and people always promote the narrative of figuring out what you want to do immediately. which is fuckign bullocks. you can start over and over again of you need to. if you start a job but after a few months you realize, its something you dont want to do, quit and find another job. Starting over and trying out jobs is nothing bad!
but i think the first step you need to to, is to realize that what you do in life, is for you and only you!!!

“I have never voted for a candidate in my life. But I will be voting for Bernie Sanders in the democratic primary and the general election. If I’m doing that, there are probably tens of millions in that same position. Let me explain why I’m doing this now:
I’ve spoken out many times over the years about the dangers that electoral politics hold for mass movements- reducing involvement to this one moment, this one person, and making it unclear to masses of people that power under capitalism comes at the point of exploitation. That politicians are beholden to the ruling class- not simply due to campaign financing (although that’s part of it) But that they are beholden to those who wield power through control of the economy- by taking the wealth that we create with our labor and controlling industry, controlling markets. And that elections, often leave people feeling disempowered after- if their candidate wins, people take a “let’s wait and see” attitude. If their candidate loses, people either wait or organize for the next election. Never creating a mass movement at the point of contradiction under capitalism, which would mean organizing on the job in a way that could withhold labor collectively and shut down industry when necessary.
I believe that we need a world in which the people democratically control the wealth that we create with our labor. This would be real, actual power in the hands of the people. Actual “democracy”. You can call that communism, you can call it socialism, you can call it pancakes. I don’t give a fuck what you call it, but that’s the world that we need.
Right now, we have a new era in the movements we see growing in the US. Several polls over the last few years- Gallup polls, university polls, polls by rightwing think tanks- have consistently shown that 51% of millennials would prefer a socialism and 43% of all age demographics in the US would prefer socialism. If you account for the folks that wouldn’t say that to a stranger on the phone, I’d bet that those numbers are higher.
Over the past 20 years, we’ve seen things like the Anti-Iraq War movement mobilize literal millions of people onto the streets all over the world, but was unable to stop the war. We learned that power cannot be simply shamed into capitulating to the demands of the people.
We’ve seen the Occupy Movement come along and surprise everyone. In every town and city in the US, there was an Occupy encampment that put forward the closest thing to a class analysis we’d seen in the mass media: the 1% vs the 99%. Studies showed that before Occupy, mainstream news had only dared utter the word “capitalism” less than a handful of times in the 20 years before. After that, for at least a short period of time, it was being uttered several times a day. And although the encampments were a small percentage of the population of each town, there was a large percentage who saw the encampments and agreed, even if they wouldn’t or couldn’t go there themselves.
Occupy Oakland was started by dedicated radicals who understood the spectacle that was happening and wanted to further radicalize it. So a one-day general strike was called, which also shut down the ports- as a symbol of where power lies under capitalism. 50,000 people- organized by nurses, longshoremen, teachers, students, transit workers and others involved in Occupy- came out and shut things down.
We’ve also seen the Black Lives Matter movement grow and valiantly respond to the epidemic of cops killing Black folks and also learning that the people that make the decisions governing our lives, don’t change their actions simply because they know that the community is upset.
We must have movements with teeth. Ones that are able to force the hands of power.
Over the past few years we’ve seen a sharp rise in people organizing on the job. I don’t mean just the traditional labor unions- although those unions are growing faster and some are becoming more militant than they have been before (largely driven by their ever more radical rank-and-file). I’m also talking about everything from previously unorganized retail workers, baristas, ride-share workers, grad student workers, farm workers, fast food workers, theater workers, tech workers, and more.
We’ve seen wildcat strikes in places the media told us was too right-wing and anti-union like the very militant West Virginia Teachers Wildcat Strike. And things like the Chicago, LA, and Oakland teachers strikes- militant strikes which were welcomed with open arms by their communities.
Some of the militancy is becoming more radical in some instances, with folks striking in solidarity with each other- like when Wayfair furniture workers went on strike last year to stop Wayfair from working with ICE and their detention centers. And the workers won. Or when grad students in many instances across the US went on strike in solidarity with custodial staff. Or when 20,000 Google workers did rolling work stoppage walkouts to have management address many issues, including sexual harassment.
People are looking for ways to exact power over their own lives. More and more they’re realizing that in order to do that we need a mass, militant, radical labor movement that can collectively withhold labor as a tool- not only for higher wages and benefits- but as a tool for larger social justice issues as well (What would have happened if radicals had been organizing a labor movement for the decade prior to Mike Brown’s murder and a general or even targeted strike happened? Indictment, real quick). People are realizing that this sort of a movement will need to break the current labor laws, ie Taft-Hartley, that prohibit solidarity strikes. This will take radical leadership.
In order to get some of the reforms that Bernie Sanders’ campaign platform calls for- Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, free university and trade school tuition, building 10 million more homes in an effort to address homelessness- it’s going to take movement tactics. We are going to have to have strategic targeted and general strikes to force the hand of the folks who have some of these politicians in their pockets. Imagine BART and AC Transit workers striking until Pelosi commits to Medicare for All. Or West Virginia teachers striking to force the vote of Joe Manchin. If we have a movement that can shut down industries through the withholding of labor, we can make politicians do what we want. We’re going to need radicals to get us there.
I’m not voting for Bernie because I don’t disagree with him on things (Venezuela, for instance). Nor do I believe that the reforms he proposes will be the socialist world that we need.
What I am endorsing is the movement that has grown around him that involves millions of people who are willing to consciously and openly engage in class struggle in order to make these reforms happen.
These struggles will radicalize millions of people and have the potential to organize the working class in the US to a point we haven’t seen before. We keep going from there.”
- Boots Riley’s official endorsement of Bernie Sanders

No I'm good it just that I had some problem in the past that effected my mood and I'm just interested to see how you are these days with what happening
Glad you’re okay, anon :)
Most relevant sections bolded for skimming because I know I’m long-winded.
I’m dealing as well as anyone, really. Also, I have a gross amount of priviledge, being a white person living in the boring-ass suburbs currently. I also don’t work in food service or retail and my place of employment has been taking fairly reasonable steps to keep employees safe from COVID. I didn’t lose my job and I’m not struggling to pay rent like many people did and are right now. I’m not sick. I haven’t lost any loved ones thus far. I really should get a four-leaf clover tattoo or something because I’ve been incredibly lucky during this whole thing.
Have I had my moments of panic and dread and etc. etc.? Of course, same as anyone. I almost quit my job on a whim after seeing a post about just how badly COVID can fuck you up. I even got as far as emailing my boss. And I’ve had my obligatory “oh god what the fuck” moments nearly every day, especially as America spirals (even further) into a disgusting fascist dystopia. But overall I’m doing (relatively) okay.
I think in the last anon you asked what gives me a drive to go through my days or something. Right now that’s my craft. Witchcraft! No, kidding. Actually, it’s writing, filmmaking, and storytelling in general. I have a “gap year” (read: “I don’t have the money to go to grad school as soon as I wanted” year) this year, so I’ve been trying to use the time to build up my portfolio for grad school applications and to study. Working on what I’m passionate about has been a wonderful backbone for me, a sort of throughline. And it’s a way I can fight back, eventually. Stories and media have much more power and influence in society than many people give it credit for; I fully intend to do what I can to influence society for the better, whether I’m just writing fanfiction and making my little projects or whether I ever actually get a career in the field.

I can’t believe I missed ace awareness week. I wanted to blog a little about it, but my computer charger failed on me and it’s taken about a month for me to prepare for the bill to replace it. I feel yucky right now so I just felt like writing about what’s going on in general instead.
I’ve been on so many interviews. I was screwed over on my last big job interview (the one I ranted about last time) partially because I think my old boss that said she be a reference flat out told me she wasn’t going to do it AFTER I submitted her as a reference to the job, so I’m almost 98% sure I was passed over because of that. In addition one of the committee members that interviewed me got mad at me for calling her “ma’m”. She explained she wasn’t from Texas, and I apologized and said something on the lines of it must be a culture shock for her and I didn’t mean to offend. Somehow people think the term is used as an insult now, and that is beyond me. I guess I’m old school lol age is catching up with me and I’m not even realizing it.
So I’ve been on plenty of interviews since then but I keep getting passed over. The last one I had to take a aptitude test, and after receiving feedback from them as to why I was rejected, it’s apparently because I’m a slow calculator/clerical worker. Big whoop because I already know that. I am really feeling the negativity now as an adult looking for work about neurodivergent people trying to find a place in a neurotypical working world. I don’t want to disclose me being ADD to anybody in pre-employment screenings because I don’t want that label to penalize me. But one way or another being ADD does just so anyway.
Because it’s been about 9 months now without work I’ve been seeing my savings decline heavily. My medication bills are at least 155 a month, and on top of that I’m still paying off a stupid hospital bill from 3 years ago that was roughly 2,000 dollars for swallowing barium and a doctor looking at an X-Ray. So that comes to immediately at minimum 200+ dollars a month just on that. Add in the other stuff and I’m fucked without an income. I’ve applied to so many retail jobs too, but nobody gets back to me either.
I don’t go out much anymore because I can’t afford to charge for dinners, so I eat whatever my mom cooks. If she is too sick from her RA, then I try and cook, but because we don’t go to the store as often anymore to save on bills (my parents are having a hard time too) I have resorted to eating canned beans, soups, and others of likeness that don’t go bad. My father is also emotionally abusive to both me and my mom, and it’s gotten worse ever since he started having problems with his job. I can’t leave because I don’t have the money to live on my own. My hobbies have heavily declined. I used to make at least two big cosplay’s a year, and go to conventions, but I can’t do that because, OH NO, I don’t have enough money, and I can’t get a job. I cry all the time because I am so bored. I go out of the house only to volunteer once a week because gas money is tight, and to take my mom on errands. I dream constantly of going on trips. I feel trapped in this house I might as well be a ghost. I stare at my phone all day in hopes of either getting a response from an employer or validation from my social media, it’s pathetic. Imagine being so bored and trapped in your house AND being ADD. It’s like my mind is constantly going places and running around, and I just get emotionally exhausted because I have to tell myself, “no, I can’t afford to go eat at that place, I can’t afford to go on a roadtrip, I can’t buy the material to do my hobby”.
Here is what I learned from all this, which I’m sure a lot of you have already learned, or will learn. Getting a degree doesn’t do you shit. The world hates you and doesn’t care about you, yet values you only on how productive you are and how much money you can make. I see my friends trapped in this mindset right now, but what am I supposed to do? Tell them to give up on their dreams? My cousin is going to grad school for her SECOND Master’s because her other one isn’t getting her good jobs. She even has a full time job on top of it, but her car broke down, and with a full-time paying job she CAN’T AFFORD TO FIX IT. My friend is going to college to get a degree in computer engineering of the sorts, but she’s already 40,000+ dollars in loans. Tbh I’m so glad my brother dropped college. He was trying to complete a degree he didn’t even like, loathed as a matter of fact to the point of attempting suicide. My dad always told him trade school was bullshit, which is A LIE, so I’m sure he felt like he didn’t have any other options when he started. The trades are an awesome career path, and I have a deep respect for anyone who can become a welder, plumber, or whatever. Whatever he ends up doing I’ll be proud of him regardless. I’ve learned that there are other ways to make something for yourself. The traditional route of college doesn’t bring the American Dream, only our persistence and spirit does.
If you’ve gotten this far reading this, this is NOT to say drop out of school. But plan ahead. Don’t jump into college right after HS just because it’s expected of you. Don’t do a degree that you think is good just because it will make you money. One thing college did for me was teach me about myself. I have a massive learning disability, and I graduated. I worked hard for YEARS, thinking I’d never graduate because I had such a hard time keeping my grades up, managing my health, and all the sorts. But I did it! I graduated. The world has told me that doesn’t matter. The world is going to tell YOU that nothing you do matters or is of worth. But it is. You matter. You are NOT a burden.
I will say that all that has happened to me makes me a fierce advocate for those with disabilities and mental illness. My last job working at an ABA clinic showed me that babies (yes, literally BABIES) that don’t act neurotypical will be punished for it. I’ve seen in the work world that if you don’t act neurotypical, you are punished for it. Where I currently volunteer now there is a huge respect for disabled individuals. I see a lot of kids with cerebral palsy, autism, ADHD/ADD, and even physical disabilities. This one boy with CP couldn’t even walk before, let alone stand up, and now thanks to Equine Assisted Therapy, he can sit up and walk with assistance. He did that! That was his accomplishment and I am so proud of him. And yet a lot of people in the world will look at him with just another kid with disabilities that will probably not amount to much. See where I’m getting at? I’m so protective of these people because I am like them. One way or another, we have to stand up for eachother. My story with ADD may not be the same as a particular person with autism, CP, or mental illnesses, but we have to look out for each other. Going through all this has made me a stronger person and I will defend us with everything I’ve got.
FYI if any of you reading this wants to donate to a good organization this year for the holiday’s I’d HIGHLY recommend SIRE Therapeutic Horsemanship in TX. Great wonderful group of people and animals.
Yes, I’m in a horrible place right now. But I’ve learned. I sincerely hope things will change for me soon so I can better take care of myself and my mom, but of course I’m human and I’m going to suffer anyway in the moment. I hope 2020 is going to be better for me because this year was terrible. I crave financial independence, the ability to travel and see and experience new things, and be in a better spot professionally, and personally to do the things I want to do. Graduate school isn’t even an option right now because I can’t afford it, and as of now, I don’t care to go to graduate school. Maybe someday, years from now, but at this rate I’m so sick and tired of expectations from society I just say fuck it. I’ll get there at my own pace. And I’ll be successful without the worlds opinion on what makes me successful.

I feel really stuck. I'm trying to move fowards but something always comes up. I still live with my family and I have no privacy and have to explain where I’m going and what I'm doing all the time. I really want to get back at uni and I’m trying but that means no time to get a job and won’t be able to move. I can’t stand the city anymore, i can’t stand being so useless. I feel like I haven’t lived at all, i’ve never been in a relationship, haven’t travelled, how do i take control of my life?
It’s tough to make a step-by-step guide or action plan for getting your life together when I don’t really have a ton of information about your goals or financial situation, but I will give it my best shot:
Go easy on yourself. While there are some people out there in this world who manage to be world-travelling Instagram stars, planning their dream weddings and moving up in their glamorous careers at age 25, those people are very few and far between. Many of them come from incredibly privileged backgrounds or have the types of parental support that most of us can only dream of. Being unworldly, directionless and living at home with your parents is the normal 20-something experience. What you’re going through is common. You feel like you haven’t lived yet because your life has barely begun; you haven’t fallen behind, you and your peers are still on the starting line. You have a lot of time ahead of you, and it’s important to be kind to yourself, and to be realistic about the progress you’ll make. You aren’t going to go from being broke in your childhood bedroom to being a high-flying career person with a spouse and a ritzy apartment overnight. Be gentle, and don’t beat yourself up for being young and inexperienced - you have a long journey ahead of you, and you’ll need to save your emotional strength to make it through.
Focus on finishing university. At this point in your life, I think your top priority needs to be finishing your degree as quickly as possible, even if it requires some short term sacrifices. I know that your living situation is irritating and that you are tired of not having privacy, but if you can tolerate your parents and your city for a little while longer and keep going to school while living at home, you’re potentially setting yourself up for a huge advantage in life by completing your degree with minimal debt. The problem with putting off university to get a job and move out is that once you’ve taken on financial responsibilities like rent and bills, it will be a lot more difficult to find the time, resources and motivation to go back to being a student, and your options will be limited for moving into a higher paying job. It’s very easy to get yourself stuck in a vicious cycle of living paycheque-to-paycheque in a low wage job, and not being able to improve your situation because you can’t afford to quit your job and go back to school - my high school friends are in their mid-to-late 20s now, and many of them are now stuck in retail or service industry jobs because it’s difficult for them to give up their source of income and return to school, especially now that some of them have kids or partners. A degree is not a guarantee of a good job, but it’s certainly a mandatory minimum requirement for most opportunities now, and it opens up possibilities like grad school or law school; the sooner you get it out of the way, the sooner you can start building a career, gaining independence and saving up money for travel. University is also a valuable social resource - by getting involved on campus, you can start making meaningful friendships, meeting potential partners, and building useful connections.
Try new things. One of the keys to living an interesting life and gaining valuable experiences is to actively try new things. It’s hard to gain life experiences by doing the same things over and over again. Challenge yourself to do at least one new thing per month. You don’t necessarily have to like it - you just have to try it. Sign up to volunteer somewhere new. Take a zumba class. Sign up for a new dating app. Write a short story. Change your hair. Start a blog. Go to a restaurant you’ve never been to. Join a local D&D group. You might be surprised by what you end up liking. I ended up in my current career because I took a psych elective to fulfill the social science requirement of my computer science program - sometimes trying something new can lead you down a whole new path you never imagined. It’s also a great way to meet new people that you might never otherwise have met.  If you’re feeling like your life is in a rut, new experiences are a great and easy way to un-rut yourself.
Have side projects and goals. It’s easy to feel like your life isn’t going anywhere when you don’t have any way to measure your progress. Even while you’re stuck living at your parents’ house, there are ways to keep moving forward with your life. Always have a project or hobby or goal in your life that you can work on. The possibilities are pretty much endless - you could work on your physical fitness, an artistic project, knitting, improving your cooking, journalling, photography, restoring furniture, learning a language, playing an instrument, etc. Anything that captures your attention. Set small, manageable goals and track your progress. Feeling like you are improving in one area of your life can go a long way to calming your jitters when you are feeling stuck in other areas of your life.
Don’t rush into a relationship or “settle”. It’s hard to predict where or when you’ll get into your first relationship - you might meet your first partner next week or five years from now. Some people meet the love of their life on Tinder within weeks of signing up, some people use dating apps for months without success. All you can really do is put yourself out there, keep working on yourself as a person, and see what happens. The one thing I will advise, though, is that you be cautious of settling for the first person who comes along. If you’ve never been in a relationship and you really want to be in one, it can be tempting to rush headfirst into a relationship with the first promising person you meet - especially if you’ve had to watch your other friends be in long-term relationships for a while now. If you meet someone who seems great, it can be easy to get very serious, very fast, and rush straight to “let’s move in together”, especially when you are already looking for a way to get out of your family’s house. Don’t rush. It’s okay to be disappointed that you haven’t had a relationship yet, but remember that a relationship should be something you get into because you truly want to be with the other person, and not just because you want to check “dating” off your list of adult milestones. If you meet someone, that’s fantastic, but remember that it’s okay to take things slow - if this is really the person for you, they will still be there six months or a year or two years from now. Getting too serious with someone too quickly can mean missing some glaring red flags, and tying yourself financially to someone you haven’t been dating very long can be a recipe for unwanted stress.
Remember that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. It’s easy to blame your problems on the city you live in. The world is full of people saying that everything would be better if they could just get out of this town. Thousands of people dream about moving to NYC, and there are thousands of people walking around NYC who dream of getting the fuck out of here. No matter where you live, there is someone who dreams of moving there, and no matter where you want to go, there is someone there who is desperate to leave. No place is perfect - every place has its perks and its downsides (for instance, NYC has lots of things to do, but every square inch of this place smells like stale urine and hot dog water). Unless you are making a drastic change in setting - like from rural to urban, or from one country to another - you’re going to find that most places have very similar problems; high rents, rising cost of living, too much competition for jobs, bad dating scenes, overcrowded public transit, crumbling infrastructure, etc, etc. There might be legitimate reasons to want to leave your current location - you live in a dying small town, the climate where you live is affecting your health, you want to work in an industry that only exists in a specific location - but it’s important to keep in mind that location isn’t everything, and you can still make progress in your life while living somewhere that you don’t necessarily love or want to stay in.
I can relate a lot to what you’re going through - while most of my friends moved out on their own right after high school and started what I thought were glamorous adult lives, I lived at home with my incredibly overbearing parents for four years and took the bus back and forth to a sensible, commuter campus university in a city that I didn’t like. I had friends and I did my best to make the most of my time in college, but part of me felt like I was being denied the formative experiences that other people were having - moving in with their partners, getting an off-campus apartment with roommates, partying all night and not having to answer to their parents, and so on. After graduating, though, I was able to find a full-time job in my field earning more than double the minimum wage, and I moved into an apartment with my best-friend-turned-boyfriend. The money I had saved by living at home during university allowed me to go after my dreams of attending grad school in NYC, and that decision led me to all kind of experiences I never expected to have and friends I never expected to meet. At 26, my life isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely well beyond what I expected when I was a frustrated 21-year-old commuting to school and having my mother constantly ask when I’d be home. Change takes time, and your 20s are tough. Have patience, and keep doing the best you can.
Best of luck to you!
