i just read an article and apparently jonathan kaplan (who played jason in the falsettos obc and was 11 at the time), watched his voice teacher who helped him through the show's auditions decline and eventually die from aids related illness during the show's previews.

in this same article michael rupert mentioned how there would be patients who came and saw the show and would go to the stage door just to be near the performers and tell them how much the story meant to them.

one day, heather macrae (charlotte) attended the funeral of her friend paul jabra and immediately after went straight to the theatre to perform in the evening show.

stephen bogardus recalls leaving the theatre and walking through the audience (about 15 minutes after the show had finished) and people would still be there holding each other.

It's looking like there's a growing divide between Campaign watchers and Tlovm watchers in terms of like. We're here for the characters. 12-episode seasons aren't. They can't be. I'm already making peace with everything we'll lose in the Mighty Nein show, and I know I will enjoy it for what it is but I also know that almost nothing that made the story so special will translate to the screen, because turning it into a show automatically means (in this day and age) that plot must be the number one priority. They've already come out and told us it's going to be different, the characters we know and love but new stories.

Because that's how this has to work. And I feel bad for campaign one lovers, because while it is certainly the easier of the two to translate to a big, overarching story, even though it's a more "traditional" high fantasy story with easier archetypal characters, the archetypes and the plot aren't what cemented most people's love for the campaign. So much of the love for critical role is stored in the interpersonal dynamics and the payoff that comes from hundreds of hours of tiny interactions that one day become cornerstones of development and even affect or dictate the plot.

There's no room for that. There's no room for Bard's Lament in a story that cannot afford to remove and replace a main character. A lot of tlovm is for people who have been here for all of campaign one. Most of it, however, isn't. It's for a new crowd. While CR may have creative control, you can bet your ass that there were months and years devoted to figuring out how to map a character-focused love of the show into a plot that hits the right beats to be viable in the show market.

And it worked. Tlovm has consistently high viewing numbers, and its popularity has brought and will continue to bring new people into the universe who have never interacted with CR previously. That's not a bad thing - imagine finishing your favorite show and discovering it has another FIVE HUNDRED HOURS of the equivalent of behind the scenes content. That's incredible for these newcomers. But man, it is in many ways a loss for us.

where shang qinghua is on the verge of flunking in uni. theres nothing he can do about it, honestly. his parents wouldnt help him economically, he needs to pay for too much stuff that the uni would not cover. his too many jobs and side gigs are consuming him and they dont help his already failing grades whatever, he will get off university's wild ride, maybe he wasn't made flr it. who knows. but before dropping out he decides to make one (1) of his wishes come true, that being going to one of the last big uni parties and being able to have sex with his crush, mobei-jun. he knows the other doesnt like him, but he knows he had looked at him at least twice when he was using his very short shorts. small graces.

when the day comes he arms himself with liquid courage, his shorter clothes, the tiniest bit of shiny lip balm and goes to mobei jun who is definitely surprised that it was the other man who decided to take the first step before him.

shang qinghua gets what he wants. its horrible. none of the know how to sex. thing that makes it absolutely more easier to drop out from uni and block everyone from there to be never recognized by anyone again.

around seven to ten years later, they find each other as boss and subordinate in the same big conglomerate, and god it is awkward to live with the memories of being absolutely horrible at sex but seeing the other a bit more changed, a bit more mature. they both have more experience and not just in life, but maybe they need more than a little liquid courage to talk about that night again
