You ever think about how the effects on the body that Purple Haze's virus has can lead to over a ton of body horror imagery in a Pannacotta Fugo route?
I do indeed.
++++++++++++++
While Fugo is very fearful of his stand, and he tries his best to keep it repressed, he does have moments even he can't get out of without its help. He tries to avoid those moments as much as possible, as the rabid apparition could kill its owner easily; Fugo is not immune to the virus he creates with his stand. Should his manifestation turn towards him in ire, Fugo needs to act fast to repress the spirit again, before buboes of phlegm swell his throat, cutting off air while splatters of blood and plasma erupt from a rash of blisters on his skin, the torn flesh melting and merging with itself as it gets covered in new blisters, each layer covering itself in torn shreds of skin from the previous layer that only emerged seconds before.
If Fugo is unlucky enough to be "saved" by a healer stand before he dies, after suppressing the stand, his skin will carry the scars, stretching and straining under the evergrowing disease under his skin. The disease never left, always mutating at an incredibly fast rate inside of himself.
In mere hours, his body is bloated, and cumbersome, unable to lift parts of himself off the ground and instead dragging them behind, tearing gently at the skin that gets raked over the concrete, oozing viscous strings of colgulated blood and dotted with white, shaving-foam consistency pus. His face is obscured under bulging, beating bulbs of flesh, with thin blue veins visibly trailing clots of blood through his body like threading a bead on a string slowly, and with great difficulty as his cancerous arteries lead back into each other, enough times that some of his- at one time- extremities turn a sickly necrotic purple and black.
You'd barely recognize the shambling mound of flesh as Fugo if it weren't for the fact you'd seen him get attacked by his stand after trying to deter it from you.
And if it weren't for the fact you'd seen birds and dogs die from the same disease as he got close to them, you'd be tempted to offer comfort to the former man. Despite lasting this long with the disease unable to kill him, it seems he's still a carrier for the original death Purple Haze entails.
You'd been running from him for hours now-- though he's not particularly fast, his persistence despite what must be agony is what keeps you moving. Resting in any place for too long will only let him close the distance. The blisters and swelling have no doubt gotten to his brain, killing whatever could have been left in him, causing him to act irrationally and chase you in the open, undeterred by pain, threats, bribes, empty promises, or gunfire. He's not Fugo anymore, unable to call upon his Stand, or even understand his old name (and you've tried to use it to escape before, attempting bargaining with the creature). He's just... A monster. Determined to follow you wherever you go, until it can absorb you with bubbling stomach acid, or infect and fuse with your melted, blistering, corpse.

there's an essay jumbled up in my brain about dunmeshi's beginning and how clever and deceptive it is as a sleight-of-hand trick that distracts the audience from the depth and scope of the worldbuilding and foreshadowing that's being set up the entire time by dangling zany characters and wacky dishes and biology fun facts in front of us, and how that serves to catch invested viewers off guard when those elements come to the forefront, but also how it works against it with other viewers wanting "more" and not seeing it because the plot bait isn't laid out up front
how people getting frustrated with the characters "not taking things seriously" is mirrored and refuted in the confrontation between Laios and Shuro. how the characters' attitudes aren't just a result of shallow low-stakes "comedy rules" where nothing matters, but are an extension of their personalities (Laios's nonstandard expression of emotions being offputting even to people he knows) and the world and social environment (adventurers being desensitized to death and injury because resurrection magic is commonplace). the way the party refers to "saving Falin" instead of "retrieving Falin's corpse," indicating that they still see her with full personhood, and how that phrasing leads to some readers/viewers believing that Falin is alive in the dragon's stomach, conscious of being slowly digested while the party carelessly fucks around "wasting time." how the weird tonal dissonance makes sense in-universe and yet is deliberately challenged more and more the deeper the party goes
all the character building and pieces of lore slowly weaving together the shape of the larger world, laying the groundwork for the major themes that will surface later. so much is right there in the "low-stakes" early episodes if you know what you're looking for (or pass the perception checks).
it can be so satisfying to see new viewers/readers pick up on the clues even in the earliest "simple" episodes, or notice new things and make connections yourself....and it can also be frustrating to see people dismiss oddities and dissonance as shallow or bad writing because they don't expect a "cooking anime" to have depth like that. why try to question and understand and peel back the layers when you don't expect there to be any layers?
why can't laios take things seriously for once?

Was tagged by @oceancamp to post my current five favorite songs! (They should invent a stages-of-grief-esque model that encompasses and accurately describes both types of anguish I had to go through making this list - the one of limiting myself to only five songs, and the one of trying to put as little videogame music on here as possible so that I don't end up looking like an absolute goddamn geek, which... I am... Oh well!)
Thank you so much for tagging me - here are the songs!
Heaven Pierce Her - War Without Reason
Tatsuro Yamashita - Love Space
This specific arrangement of Death And Republic + Meet Again
Winger - Junkyard Dog (Tears On Stone)
The Protomen - Light Up The Night
Is it courtesy to tag other people after you've been tagged in a post like this? If that's the case, I'll tag @spiralled-fury, @solradguy, @swamppossum, @five-by-five, @northstarring, @ineedmoredragons and @tbonechessor!

Maybe this was already mentioned and I just forgot, but based on your tineline post, Grian got kicked out while Mumbo was still away on his long break? Was Mumbo told it happened while still gone (and it perhaps made him come back early), or did he find out once he returned?
Also hi I'm the anon that told you about one of the new 1.21 soundtrack songs being called Watcher, so I guess if the headphones emoji (🎧) hasn't already been taken as one of your anons I can be that?
-🎧 (potentially)
AYYYYY ANOTHER EMOJI ANON LETS GOOOOOO consider it all yours!! :D
HMMMMMM okay logically yes, but i did also write that he was there for when Grian was found out. I think the absence wasnt a complete and total absence, in-universe?? He probably came back every so often for brief visits and such, and it was during one of those that Grian got confronted. Its admittedly not something ive thought super hard about until now 😂😂😂😂 but if i were to write it, thats probably how i would go about doing it

I want to see more Robin!Jason and Batgirl!Barbara content. But like in a very specific way. I want Babs to be the unintentionally bad influence sibling. The chaotic sibling. Dick already isn't there (he is busy with the Titans who are falling apart every other day, his absence is understandable), so let Only Child Babs connect with Jason who's *at least* 10 years younger.
I want her to be the one who curses around the baby and then curses when she realizes what she just did. Like, "You see this shit Robin." "Fuck. I mean-shit fuck, damnit-"
She's the older sister who keeps Jason from drinking coffee by stealing it from his hands and downing the mug like a shot then smarmily being like, "Too much coffee is bad for you little bird," even though that's her fifth cup that morning.
I want them to have their own nicknames for one another (I actually *like* the fanon tendency of having Jason calling Barbara 'Barbie').
edit: Turns out this isn’t fanon and just straight up canon from Batman Eternal and she called him Little Bird in Gotham Knights. Thank you anon who sent that.
I want Jason fake-flirting with Barbara where both of them know he's just fucking around. (And because his ability the flirt is inversely related to how much he actually has a crush on someone, it should mean that he's actually really good at it. Mostly so Barbara can make fun of Bruce and Dick that scrawny runt Jason Todd is a better flirt.)
She's the one who tells Jason all of the embarrassing stories about Dick.
Jason (12): "Why doesn't this costume have pants?"
Barbara (23): Because Dick's an exhibitionist.
Or
Jason: "I can't believe Dick never got mask acne that's not fair."
Barbara: *wheezing because she remembers the days Dick refused to leave his room because of acne*
She and Jason are patrolling and they do the fast-ball special because Barbara's like, "I was able to do this with Dick at this age still." But forgot to account for two things.
She's much stronger than she was at 16.
Jason is much lighter than Dick was at the same age.
So Barbara just accidentally yeets Jason off the rooftop.
I don't know if Barbara was already running for Senator but Barbara using her adorable baby brother to help get votes.
Senator Batgirl and Robin's adventure in figuring how who's trying to kill Barbara. Bruce is fucking around thinking it's the mob. It's actually just wealthy business owners getting rich off of exploitative practices Barbara is trying to shut down. All of them are legitimate business owners and at least a third of the Wayne Enterprises Board is involved. Barbara still ends up never getting re-elected because she was too leftist and most of the people who tried to kill her got off with a fine. (Am I trying to make a point that Bruce has massive blind spots and the people who are doing to most damages are the ones he grew up with along with the system that has afforded him the power to be Batman. Yes.)
I know Barbara was a mentor to both batgirls and Misfit etc. But I want to see her stumble first (but in a funny way). And Jason's Robin run was so isolated that even if Babs was retiring there's no way only Bruce and Jason could deal with a whole city and she would have been out more often than just the once. Plus these two should interact more.
