tease tidbit tuesday!

it's been tuesday for me for, like, 10 minutes, and *hiding from my wips* i started a new fic and i don't know where exactly this is going but I'm in too deep to back out now (this will either be out this week or it will never leave the dropbox lol) so have this with no other information.

Eddie says, still trying not to cry, blinking up at Buck as he takes a step backward as if his words had physically hit him.  The words definitely feel punched out of Eddie. It hurts him to say it and he knows how much it hurts Buck to hear it.  Maybe more than anything else Eddie has ever said. Because this isn’t some heat-of-the-moment thing where they’re trying to hurt each other. It’s not something screamed out out of anger that both of them know they didn’t mean it.  He’s telling the truth, one that hurts him to admit, and he can tell by the look on Buck’s face that he knows.  Can tell because everything about Buck seems to crumble once the words register. His shoulders drop, his fists uncurl, his eyes water, his lips start to tremble.  Eddie also knows he’s not much better. His eyes are stinging, and the knot in his throat hurts, and he kind of wants to crumble to the ground right there.

was just subjected to a self righteous post about how we need to learn to respect second generation atheists (important context: i am one) and how their existence begs the question of if atheism is always in reaction to something or if it can be an independently held position. which then followed it up with a 'summary of responses to this post' that included, peppered among things second generation atheists said or remarks about never hearing about this before, extremely reactionary positions about the necessity of religion in life all couched in the language of simple 'concern' for these atheists upbringing. like omg yesss your post is soooo important we really need to interrogate this group that is persecuted by literally every large religious organization on the planet about if their way of life is legitimate! its sooooooo crucial we open doors to religious mandates. its imperative that we teach them about religion, a thing they are so cruelly denied, but dont worry guys, for some of them, its not their fault! we can help them! by making them religious i mean teaching them about religion! remember that some jewish people are atheists too <3

can we talk about revival religions i want to talk about it... i like cant stress enough how concerning it is that people cant tell the difference between a closed practice that you need to belong to a certain community to understand vs. a revival invented by hobbyists for fun based on the texts of a dead (or...made up) tradition that everyone has equal access to & say things like “percy jackson is problematic because there are people who worship apollo” & get taken in by racists and nationalists bc they say shit like “we need to reclaim our marginalised indigenous heritage”. if u think thatbeing born in a nation state thats landmass roughly corresponds with the collection of ancient city-states that produced some of the most widely-disseminated literature in the world somehow puts you in the same position as an indigenous person begging white neopagans to stop burning white sage you really really need to unpack that...

Funniest thing about christianity to me is that Jesus n his early followers were martyred by the roman empire only to have christianity turned into roman empires state religion 400 years later and people act like they can be 'real' followers of said religion because we can trust most genoicidal empires of the time's version of the events and their 'interpretation' and all
