- I take hundreds of screenshots + download promo art and a create collage of it , use it as a ref sheet. I study on the shapes , proportions , and style of each character.

- Then I pick an image from the pile to see if it’s a good pose (if not, I find poses from other resources to draw) or expression I want to use as reference for my drawing

- then I start sketching , adding the sharp details . Clean up on lineart and color later

Other Notes :

- Tales of the TMNT artstyle uses sharp sketchy lines to give it that sketchbook artstyle

- In some frames from the show, Their eyes are pentagon shaped & pupils are not fully colored in. Mask tails have different styles too

- Each turtle not only have different headshapes , they have different plastron shapes too (these are fugly examples I accidentally deleted the OG layer of this and had to redo it LMAO)

- Looking at Tales crew art also rlly helps! (There’s a lot of them on the #/talesofthetmnt tag on insta & twitter)

the Tales of the TMNT artstyle is easy to nail imo , it’s like more of a simpler version of the rise of the TMNT artstyle if that make sense ?? That’s how I personally feel lololol

If you never drawn TMNT before , just go slow on your art process , look at references, & take your time . Draw the characters in your own style first if you want :] just to feel more comfortable and less stress trying to replicate the iteration’s style . overall , have fun <3

So, I’m making my own pj masks au and I have already like a summary of the au so I decided to make some character design/fan art because I can 🐀✨ (I made drawings in my sketchbook🤓)

This au is basiclly like the original show but if instead of the pj getting their powers since they were little they got them in their teen years, I’m so original I know 😛, (It's sarcasm but just let me be happy 🐒).

I don’t want to explain the au right now because I’m tierd and because it’s still is progress but anyway, here I have the first character design of my au and i decided to start with one of my favorite characters… Octobella 🗣️🗣️🗣️ (Just for u to know, my artstyle is a bit messy 🥹)

So this is like her octopus from or how ever u want to call it. I was going for like something similar to her original design and gave her some more jewelry because queen loves crystals!!! Love my sea witch 🐙✨

Next is her human form??? I’m still figuring things out…

Yes I have her headcanons because it would make my life easier. Well, Her name is Isabella because when I was doing reaserch o found out that “Bella” means “beautiful” or something like that and I found it quite fitting for her. Her last name is Havström because I found out that It’s a swedish surname that means “sea ​​current” (please correct me if I’m wrong because I’m not familiar with it) She is swede because aperantly sea witches are very popular in Norse mythology. In the au, Bella comes frome a large line of powerfull sea witches and they are known for their potions and crystals, she can change her appearance at will between her “human form” and octopus form. In short, she is interested in the pj masks because they get their powers from a crystal and she LOVES crystals.

I made her a short queen in her senior year of high school, (she is older that the pj masks since they are in their junior year). Queen dyies her hair blond 👀.

In my au, Bella is part of a really wealthy family from Sweden but moved to the states arround middle school because her family’s business started growing very well in the states ,(yes, my au is based in the states even though the pj masks is from france but oh well). I imagine that she meet Greg before the other pj masks, they were neighbors in a quite a wealthy neighborhood, Greg went to the same middle school as Amaya and Connor but Bella’s parents and his parents were friends and they saw each other very often. At one point, Bella and Greg where good friends but when Greg started high school, Bella changed schools to go to the same school as Greg and she made his life miserable when she was a sophomore and he was a freshmen, but when she was in her junior year she went to study abroad and greg was in peace (at least until she came back). There is gonna be an episode arround season 2 that shows when Bella comes back from studying abroad (I want to make her apear untill season 2 so this is like spoiler and I’m sorry 😔, and yes, I’m planning the au as if it was a series ☝️🤓).

And to finish this, u might already have noticed that Dylan (Armadylan) is in the corner with Bella, so in a part of the au they are like a couple but like a toxic kind of one because Dylan genuinely likes Bella but she only uses him, I’m planning that she wants to use him to do some kind of spell that would put Dylan in danger but I can’t say much now ,I don’t want to give a lot of detail because this post is already really long and I’m too tired but I promise that in a future post I will explain about it !!!

This post only had like the main idea of what I want to do with Octobella in the au but in future posts I’ll go with much more detail 😨.

More concept art and as usual my insane ramblings below.

I NEED TO GET THE CREATIVE URGES OUT OF MY HEAD!!! It has been bothering with my motivation to finish my gazillions of homeworks lmao. I have so many ideas I need to let out!!! It's suffocating. I hope this will satisfy my creative urges for a while... Or not I will yap about my FOP AU on a separate post (when I'm able).

I can't stop being sad thinking about this family lol. Timmy 😭😭😭

I am not kidding when I say that my head is just filled with so many things that I want to contribute in the FOP fanworks lol. There's a lot I want to do, but so little time...

For now, I've decided to practice my take on the FOP artstyle. I wanted to do something simple as drawing and coloring practice. That's why the coloring this time is flat with no shadings. I think the show doesn't focus on shaded colors too much (except on scenes where there's a heavy implication of day/night, for shock value, etc.).

Just wanted to draw something cute because I haven't been feeling so swell lately. Nothing too poetic or detailed this time.

Other than that, two of the outfits this time is actually inspired by @suki-na-kumo for Peri and an image I found floating around in Twitter/X (sorry I don't remember who shared it) for Timmy's design. Suki-na-kumo's FOP family redesigns are so cool and adorable! I like that they always include flowy attributes in Peri's outfits lol. It makes him look like a pampered brat (which he kinda is seeing how his family coddles him), an otherworldly prince and also a Twink TM (that is unavoidable lol). I kinda want to draw their other FOP redesigns, but I'll just go with Peri's first.

I am not sure where that 18 year old Timmy design is from, but it kinda can be his design for those who theorise him on becoming a lawyer as an adult. There's a lot of instances where Timmy is wearing a suit in the show, but this design is one of my favs due to the hairstyle change. My adult Timmy designs in the future will be influenced from this piece of official art. I wonder if there are more Timmy designs in the wild wild west out there that I haven't seen... It is certainly an interesting find (Teen AJ is also there, and his design also looks cool to me).

Cosmo and Wanda's oufits are something that I cooked up. I don't think the coloring looks good... I just did this on a whim, and for about 13 hours. Damn, I am procrastinating on my work lmao.

Still, the context this time is, that they've had a family dinner to celebrate on Peri's achievement on finally obtaining his godparenting license!!! Good for him!!!

This is an AU if Timmy somehow was able to find a loophole in the "losing your memories of your fairy godparents after you become an adult" rule. Because of that, he continued his life as normal (as Timmy's chaotic life can be), but this time he is able to keep in contact with his fairy family even if they're not contractually obligated to stick together. Timmy does live with the Fairywinkle Cosma's around his college to early work years, but he eventually was able to move out and live on his own at where he works as a lawyer after a while in his adulthood. (His birth parents eventually went on a lifetime vacation without him or just went away for too long that Timmy just lives on his own a lot after he is 18 and above...)

Despite living on his own nowadays (In a New Wish context), Timmy does keep in contact with his fairy family and visits them when he's not busy with his job. Cosmo and Wanda still took a long vacation in this AU, first due to, yeah, Timmy is no easy feat as a godchild lol, and second, they actually want to take their time to raise BOTH of their children (even if Timmy is no longer a child/godchild) and guide them until they're stable adults. Timmy during college years actually only stays with the Fairywinkle Cosma's on holidays, so when Timmy's busy with college, that is when Cosmo and Wanda take their time relaxing lmao.

Sometimes when they really want to have some time alone or when Peri wants to see his bro, they will send Peri to Timmy's college for a day or more. Timmy babysits Peri so much during his college years lol. They both had fun though! With a lot of Peri newfound nuclear fairy power shenanigans at Timmy's college lmao. Studying law and taking the bar exam has never been more chaotic with babysitting a nuclear powered fairy child.

There's a lot more on this AU that I've been thinking, but I'll stop here for now. I need to gather my AU ideas in one post sometime later.

Also, Peri and Timmy are both adults here, Peri's around his 20's here and Timmy is on his early 30's I think. Cosmo, Wanda, and Peri are in their human disguises here, because they want to learn more about human culture (A New Wish context) while also having the desire to be more in Timmy's life.

I headcannon Timmy to be kinda short in his adulthood. This is also a nod to that episode when his fairy family used imperfect human disguises, even Poof/Peri was taller than Timmy in his human baby disguise lol. And also hey, wearing braces during his teen years paid off! (his big teeth are visible only when he opens his mouth lol)

it was really nice to hear more about howdy’s family, AND THERE IS SO MANY OF THEM, HIS FAMILY IS ACTUALLY MASSIVE, I loved all their voices and character designs so much, they were all great, I WAS SURPRISED WE GOT TO HEAR ALL THEIR VOICES TOO, I was completely blown away from this update

THE LORE WE GOT ON EDDIE TOO WAS ACTUALLY CRAZY.

I felt so bad for the guy he was so stressed and exhausted from everything, it was also really sad to see how he was getting frustrated / upset when nobody was coming to visit him 😕 FRANK KEEP YOUR BOYFRIEND COMPANY PLEASE…

It was also really nice to see how worried Frank was for Eddie when Eddie was zoning out, THEY WERE SO WORRIED FOR HIM, I ACTUALLY STARTED CRYING NEAR THE END OF THE 22 MINUTE VIDEO, THE ANGST FOR EDDIE WAS SO SAD, ESPECIALLY THE PART WHERE FRANK STARTED TO WORRY.

anyways, that’s all I have to say for this update, I literally loved it so much and this is definitely my favourite update so far, the voice actors, animators and clown did such a good job with this update and it was definitely worth the extra wait 🩷

I’m actually not that good at anatomy myself and if I have to draw parts of naked body I surround myself with references 🥴 in any other case I just use blocks to make a rough sketch which I then dress up like a doll, so it’s not so much about anatomy as it is about proportions and shapes (which I suggest to learn first thing bc that’s what we started with at art school :p)

I really don’t think you need to know the name and exact form of every bone from the bottom to the top to draw people well enough, IMO all you need as a core except for named above are the very general things like the way leg bones connect with pelvic bones, or the rib cage shape and how it can differ, or, for example, those anchor points where the bones are practically not hidden by anything, like the collarbones or upper anterior iliac spine and etc etc. what I’m trying to say is you don’t have to memorise skeleton and all the muscles in all details, especially in the beginning 🤓

in terms or advices I probably won’t say anything new: when I get an annual urge to learn anatomy more or need a reference I go through Anatomy for Sculptores since everything is very clearly shown there or straight to youtube and watch channels like Proko. he actually has a very useful practice in homework to find muscles or bones on a photo and draw it on top/separately. I myself rarely do it and I’m ashamed bc when I actually did it was so helpful for understanding 😭

I also have a few pinterest boards for anatomy and love to look at pics like these, gives me a better understanding of volumes and the way shading should go

I tried to read Bammes too but it has A LOT of (not so necessary on practice IMO) info (and a lot of typos in russian version) which is too much for my one and only braincell and I can’t remember a single thing for a dear life of mine from there 😭😭😭 schemes are good tho 🤓

heard good things about Figure drawing, Design and Invention by Michael Hampton and Morpho series (especially Simplified Forms) by Michel Lauricella but haven’t gotten my hands on them yet

and ofc looking at and drawing real ppl helps not only to understand how anatomy works but also how our body parts can hugely differ, even if it’s the exact same muscle

Try to surround yourself with artists that fit your tastes. I started to monitor everything I consume online, creating this "taste". I cleaned my environment from things that don't inspire me and which make me doubt what I want and it helped me to focus more on improving & creating a stable artstyle.

To me it's important to have a an example to follow, such as existing artist or a big mangaka, a person who knows what they draw and how they draw.

(but everything I've said up there is only from the aspiring artists point of view. In reality I respect every artist regardless of style they use and I enjoy their works same way.)

Also study a lot on real photos, but don't try to recreate it hyper realistically and just draw how you see it, that's a very nice way to find out what style suits you best. Sometimes it's good to collect some examples of artstyles you like and just try to recreate it too, use it as study as well. Artists of all times did the same.

idk. To me the greatest way to develop an artstyle is to find yourself artists who inspire you and to try to recreate their style, breaking it out piece by piece, from brushes they use to the way they start their sketching.

It sounds strange when you say it, but when you try it out you can never recreate it 100% in the same way, you always have something unique, something yours that will make difference anyway. And that's the way you develop your own artstyle, in my opinion.

I hope this isn’t super unsolicited but I’ve been following you for a LOONG time and I always thought u were just anither artist that has been non-stop dedicated to their craft since they were a kid but reading ur pinned shocked me to my core 😭😭 You’re so good what!! Do you have any tips for a beginner artist that starts later in life (i’m 22) like what kind of tutorials to watch or how to study? you’re my #1 inspo when it comes to artstyle

OMG this is soooo touching really! The best feeling is to inspire others and honestly, you are making me tearing up😭😭 Yea, I'm on the beginning of my journey only, and I'm trying to observe everything I see to grow as fast as possible, since I lost pretty damn much years aswell. But to cheer you up a little, I believe that the older you get, the easier it is to learn, since you understand many things better. So what would I suggest so far and what I'm doing myself: 1. Rule numba one - observing. Literally. Become a sponge and soak up information as if your life depended on it. The thing is that in drawing, as in almost all crafts, OBSERVATION is very important. Your brain needs to get information from somewhere on how and what to do, it cannot generate from 0. And this means that your task is to fill it with information. What I advise is to collect drawings of everyone you like, no matter how cool they are. Watch speedpaintings, surround yourself with creativity, so that you slowly remember all sorts of little things. Speedpaintings are a treasure trove, you will unconsciously remember other people's ready-made solutions and make them in the future. 2. The second piece of advice is to try to repeat other people's work for learning purposes. This technique is also used in graphic design. You see the finished result - try to come to it. It doesn't matter that it won't turn out the same, but try to look at every detail and figure out how to achieve it, this will help in your own future works. 3. The third piece of advice is anatomy and fundementals. Yea-yea, it's boring, I always want to get to the fun part faster too. But literally in my last work I laughed at myself, like: "Wow, I literally draw simple shapes in the body and just smooth out the corners to make it more natural. You need to learn shapes." 4. It will probably take me a million points, so I will make this the last one as the main advice - references. Remember, your head cannot generate solutions from nowhere, so use references!! The more you draw, the more will be stored in your head and in the future you will be able to come up with everything yourself, but now, it is important to repeat what already exists. Photos are a must have! Other people's drawings - only in general, details and not a complete work. For example, I have not yet figured out how I want to draw noses - I go to see how my favorite artists do it and learn from them. And here I do not know how to paint clothes, I go and collect a collage of clothes that others do and try to understand how they came to this. 5. Last advice will be practical. Anatomy book that saving my ass - https://anatomy4sculptors.com/ Youtubers - NIRO, Pikat, Proko, Angel Ganev. Main advice - References are the most important part. Preparing for an art is important. For art tips! I'd say learn more on anatomy and texture! I believe those are the two main principle that artists often forget! Try not to stick on one references! Use as many as you can!

I learn most of how i draw by experience and sometimes copying off of my fav artists traits (for personal practice, i never post it anywhere else besides to study only) also i got some helpful criticism from my professor! (Sweet man he is)

For coloring, this helpful tips by @/darrencalvert is helpful for beginners! Its basic knowledge for coloring too! Im trynna find good sources, i usually dont do this hue

HAHA YEAH HIII…. I’m so normal guys I swear (<- lying). BUT SERIOUSLY IM SO SO GLAD THAT THERE ARE OTHER ALICE FANS BECAUSE SHE GENUINELY DRIVES ME SO NUTS SHE IS SO INTERESTING AND I NEED OTHER PEOPLE TO SEE THAT. Like lemme write you this whole ass essay about her because ohhhhh my godddd I’ve thought about her way too much (also tysm for the compliment I really appreciate it wehee ^^)

So to really appreciate Alice, I feel like you kinda also gotta appreciate that first extra bit that the movie adds because I think it expands on Dog Man and his origins in a really interesting way. The scenes in the early parts in the movie that weren’t in the books touch on an idea that isn’t really ever acknowledged in the books, and that is like, the genuine tragedy of dog man and the fact that knight is effectively dead. I think showing Dog Man having to adjust to his new body and mourning his old life is such a good route to take and it was portrayed in such a genuinely heartbreaking way and I adored it. The thing then with Alice is the fact that we have to acknowledge that she was also grieving, but also consider the other circumstances of the situation. Really, Alice could not have even been been given the CHANCE to grieve properly considering as soon as Dog Man came to be, he was revered as this superhero and praised and adored by basically everyone for being “the ultimate cop” because of his half and half nature, so how in the hell was Alice meant to process the loss of her boyfriend when this is what happened literally IMMEDIATELY after? And like, I think it’s important to also understand that one of the biggest recurring themes and ideas in dog man is grief and how people respond to grief and hardship and the fact that people don’t always deal with difficult things in good ways. It’s easy to hate alice for the whole immediately getting a new boyfriend and dog thing, but really I think this was so clearly her way of coping with the situation, and obviously it is not a good way of coping, but again, how can you expect her to cope properly given all of the circumstances of the situation? If everyone is immediately gonna move on from the loss of knight and act like nothing happened, why wouldn’t she feel the need to immediately move on? And the fact that she doesn’t stick around for Dog Man, although upsetting, is again, completely understandable given the circumstances. Like, yeah man, I think if my dog’s head got sewn onto my dead boyfriend's body, I also would not want to stick around to see that extremely horrific reminder of the immense tragedy and loss I literally just suffered. And obviously Dog Man is more than that, I’m not arguing otherwise, but considering him from Alice’s perspective, I cannot blame her for not wanting to be around him. And the really tragic thing about it is the fact that really, the only other person who IS actually actively grieving knight and understands her grief about him is Dog Man, and while he mourns not only knight, but also his old life, he needs and misses alice as well, but I can’t imagine alice being with dog man possibly going well or being beneficial for her right now, ESPECIALLY considering that, again, she was not given the time nor grace to be able to properly process what happened to knight and grieve him. I’ve thought a little bit about a scenario where alice does actually encounter dog man at some point, and it really just cannot end well. It is sad and upsetting and unfair to both of them, but alice has not been given the space and time to work through the loss of her boyfriend, and so she responds and deals with that in a way that is not at all beneficial or constructive for anyone really, but she doesn’t feel that she has much more that she’s really able to do. I think it’s unfair to interpret what alice does as “oh, she never really cared about knight or greg” because there is just so much nuance and tragedy imbued into this whole situation and to expect her to deal with it well or be able to just accept it is doing her such a disservice. I think she should be allowed to deal with a messed up situation in a messed up way because why wouldn’t she in this scenario?

So like, TLDR I think Alice is a realistic character who is put into this extremely unrealistic situation and doesn’t respond to it healthily because she has not been given the opportunity or environment to do so, and I don’t think that should warrant hatred towards her.

She’s a fascinatingly characterized character even if she has literally no screentime outside of flashbacks and I think more people should open their minds to the complexities of her character because she is so so interesting. It IS sad and it IS upsetting what she does and dog man needs support in his time of need and mourning, but so does she, and the lack thereof makes her make bad decisions to cope in whatever way she can, even if it is not a good way.

3rd) i remember someone mentioning that the wordgirl fandom went through a "lactose intolerant doctor twobrains" phase. So i wanted to make this. And i was gonna make it better but i lost motivation halfway through-

4th) alot of people consider becky a lexiconian princess due to her overpowered abilities. So i actually designed her lexiconian dress. I didn't draw her body btw, i just took a picture from the heatwave episode as a base to draw my design on her (lazyass😶). I didn't post it on it's own because it just didn't look interesting enough, and consequently not deserving enough for it's own post.

5th) this one of my concept design for becky in wonderland AU. Based off of the becky in blunderland fanfic. I wasn't in the mood to draw her in the original show's artstyle so i just used one of my own styles. also i swear i USED the skintone that the show provided DIRECTLY with the eyedropper tool. On god She doesn't have liver failure 😭

6th) also a concept design of how i think grown up wordgirl would look like. Simple, yet mature and authoritative. I didn't intend for this to look good, i just wanted to draw my design.

i don't hate the pirate aesthetic at all, but i wanted to really push his bougie ass forward with a more distinctly modern sailor's captain look

the long hair and ponytail was mostly to make his hair more distinct from ginro

plus, l'oreal surfer locks on this dude just seemed like a really funny idea

leaving his arms open and the informal coat-tying felt like a good way to show his confidence; with a pop of blue on the underside to match his cap up top

i bet most of y'all had no idea she was only 4'9" (145 cm), did ya? this was more of an artstyle thing on boichi's part than a strictly design-based flaw, but i wanted to correct it anyway

gave her something that would actually imply being a gymnast lmao

since cherry blossoms had gone extinct, i think it'd be cute if she made little cloth flowers to add onto her outfit to remember them by

wanted to keep the fur linings that tsukasa's people mostly share without looking like yuzuriha's chest fur, so around the neck it goes; gives a circus-esque vibe too

ballet flats with ribbons would keep her cute and make it a lot easier to do her flips and jumps in than knee high pumps

wanted to tone down his outfit to smth resembling traditional Japanese archer garb, since his personality's much more on the reserved side

trimmed down the amount of brim and collar to give the archer as much visual room to work with while shooting his bow lmao

added a hat strap to allude to his being in the Japanese military

i added so much to his arms to give a layer of protection against bow string recoil

as goofy as the shoes are, i kept them because they're unique to him, and just trimmed them into slippers
