I'll kiss you (when you're not about to sneeze in my face)
james potter x gn!reader (friends to lovers)
a/n: is my obsession w using parentheses in titles obvs? duh. also this was inspired from this
c/w: fluff, implied gryffindor reader but not rlly, side wolfstar and rosekiller, cat allergies!!!! (james is allergic), usage of nicknames like 'babe' and 'doll' and 'angel', nothing else i can think of so lmk if i missed smth
The sun is shining prettily through the stained glass of the common room windows. As you stretch on the couch, lazily rereading one of your favourite books, you hear the unmistakable sound of footsteps dashing downstairs. Plopping up from your relaxed position, you turn to look at the staircase just as your favourite redhead-blonde duo appear, talking animatedly about something. Spotting your slacked form, Lily beelines towards the couch, immediately drawing a sound of protest from your lips as you notice her determined expression.
"Come on! You can't waste away a sunny day inside." A petulant whine escapes your lips at her words. "Lils, please, I'm reading!" Marlene tuts in response, now standing behind the couch with her hands on her hips as she looks down at your form much like she's a doctor analysing a patient. "Babe, no. You're turning into a snob."
Lily rolls her eyes at her crass words. "What Marls means is that you should come out with us to enjoy the sun while we can. Winter's almost here, please! You can still read your book too." Scoffing at her pleading form, you cross your arms in feigned irritation, "Stop pouting like that." Marlene nods behind you, agreeing. "Yeah Lils, stop pouting, and help me." "Help you do wha—Marlene McKinnon, unhand me right now!" You shriek with slight outrage as she grabs your hands from behind, giving Lily the cue to tickle you. The redhead looks at you with a devious grin, making you wonder what Professor McGonagall was thinking, making her a prefect. "What's it gonna be, love? Coming with us to the grounds or a merciless tickle attack?" Knowing you can do nothing but yield, you surrender to their whims, making them cheer. Grumbling, you straighten your clothes, glaring at the two, although there is no real heat in your eyes as the three of you start walking.
Chatting idly and affront forgiven, your trio reaches your destination after what seems like an unnecessarily long walk, finding the rest of your friends dawdling about near the lake. "Meadowes!" Marlene hollers, from beside you, her infatuation with the Slytherin painfully obvious as she draws the attention of not only your friends but also half the population on the grounds. You watch as Dorcas, Sirius, Remus and Peter turn their attention to the lot of you as you approach them, immediately taunting the boys, "Where's the funnier one of your group?"
Sirius scoffs, pulling you down next to him playfully. "And here I thought you loved me. It's always the ones you trust the most." You huff in response, swatting him with your hardcover copy lightly. "The truth hurts, Black." You're saved from his inevitable retaliation when Remus beckons you closer. You abandon his other half, scooting up next to the scarred boy with appreciation evident in your expression which drops as soon as he opens his mouth. "James is over there," he nods sassily at the familiar group of Slytherins lazing around further along the water's edge. It's actually not even the entire group of them, just Barty and Evan cuddled up under a tree, with James crouching near them, apparently held in conversation. The sight is so peculiar that you're surprised you didn't notice them sooner. Remus gives you an impish smirk, knowing all about your feelings for the bespectacled boy and you roll your eyes at his nerve. Standing up, you brush off your robes and mumble to your friends who are all giving you knowing looks, "I'll be right back." Sirius eyes you, and then James, teasing salaciously, "Take your time, doll." He receives another swat of the book and a few creative insults before you start walking along the edge of the lake, overhearing the….one-sided conversation he seems to be having? "God, aren't you precious?" he whispers, which makes Barty snicker mockingly, "It's a lost cause, Potter." He looks up at you when your shadow blocks the sunlight from his face, jeering derisively, "Come to collect your boyfriend?" You roll your eyes for the hundredth time and grumble, "We're not dating, Junior."
Before he can say something else that would get him punched, James turns to you, sniffling. "Hi, angel. How are you?" You find yourself horrified as you take in his form. "James, what the hell? Are you petting a cat?" You almost shout, noticing the black little ball of fur near his feet. His face breaks into a grin, even though it looks slightly strained. "Yes! He's so cute, isn't he?" You vaguely hear Barty snicker again as Evan admonishes him half-arsedly but your eyes are on your friend who is apparently stupid enough to pet a cat even when he's allergic.
"Did you forget you're allergic or are you petting that cat knowing you're allergic?" You sigh exasperatedly, suddenly feeling a lot like a single mother of four. James has the decency to look sheepish. "I, uh, didn't forget." He says quietly, like he's disappointed in himself too. He immediately picks up the cat, holding it in front of him like a shield, "But look at him, angel, he's so cute!" You huff in annoyance, immediately taking the admittedly adorable, yowling cat who looks like he is a few seconds away from scratching James' eyes out, and place it on the ground, albeit gently. "Get up, James, we're leaving." James looks down at the cat, almost mournfully before nodding and standing up. "Goodbye, Angel of Darkness." He whispers down to the cat, his voice barely audible, much like a wife's tender farewell to her husband deploying to war. He doesn't see your bewildered expression since he's still bent over the cat, bidding adieu, but the couple under the tree do, Barty giggling like he finds something terribly funny and Evan smirking, although if that is at his boyfriend's laughter or at the supposedly amusing situation, you're not sure. You ignore it, grabbing James' arm and pulling it lightly, making him turn, the both of you slowly ambling towards your friends.
James, his arm still in your grasp, mumbles, "Godric, my eyes are so itchy." You give him a criminally offensive side eye but stay silent, unaware that you will deeply regret this decision later. You almost laugh, wondering whether you should judge him for apparently being so dumb or be charmed by his frankly endearing behaviour, when James stops in his tracks beside you, making you halt as well. You turn to him, questioning, before you freeze too, absolutely stock still. "James," you start in a heavily measured tone. "Did you…did you rub your eyes?" "No." He replies instantaneously, although the way his eyes, red enough to rival a vampire, are watering rapidly indicate the opposite. You sigh through your nose, crossing your arms and levelling a glare at him. "Try again." He meets your gaze with chagrin, a faint blush spreading across his cheeks, although that may just be due to the reaction. "Um, yes."
You shake your head, sighing for the fiftieth time, probably, as you turn around, detouring towards the castle, expecting him to follow. "Angel, I'm sorry!" He apologises immediately, guilt etched on his features like he isn't the one with a runny nose and itchy eyes, and other, probably worse symptoms. Your eyes soften and your pace slows, "Jamie, I'm not mad at you, I'm just worried." His face breaks into a warm grin at that, and even though he looks like shit, a reciprocating smile tugs on your lips instantly. "About me?" He asks, wiggling his eyebrows cheekily and you roll your eyes, the heat on your face matching his own. "Tosser." You mumble, trying to school your features into a stern glare half-heartedly as you scold in fake annoyance. "But you know you wouldn't have survived in the Muggle world, right? You're so lucky you have Madam Pomfrey."
He takes hold of your hand lightly, stopping the both of you from walking further as you turn to look at him curiously. "I'm lucky I have you too." He says tenderly, eyes soft and touch softer where his hand holds yours. "Your sycophantic tactics won't work on me, Potter." You reply, although your heart stutters in your chest, the way he is looking at you making you nervous. "Oh? What about a kiss? Will that work?" He murmurs softly, your eyes widening as you watch him step closer to you, head ducked to meet your gaze. His face is suave, warm eyes flickering to your lips with intention. However, there is a bit of vulnerability in them too, a hint of nervousness that contrasts the coy persona he is putting up. "Well?" His head tilts slightly to the side, your eyes immediately falling to the skin of his neck as your mouth goes dry. "James," you mutter with as much self-restraint you can muster, your eyes meeting his slightly bloodshot ones again. "I'll kiss you when you're not about to sneeze in my face."
That effectively breaks the tension, and his face scrunches up in something between indignation and disbelief. "I'm not about to sneeze in your f-" He is interrupted by a sneeze. You give him a cocky look, simultaneously relieved and disappointed at the change your conversation has taken. "Angel, it's not my fault, you set it off! You said the 'S' word." He calls accusingly, following your smug form to the Hospital Wing. He isn't much disapproving of it later, though, when you pull him in an empty hallway after the matron fixes him up, letting you kiss him to your (and his) heart's content.

THE SUBMISSIVE CONVERSION OF THE CAMPING TRIO
This story can be found as a dedicated page on my blog: Here
This story features a number of kinks, primarily: Corruption \ Exhibition \ Free Use \ Gangbang \ Rape
==============================================
Sometimes the best way to beat the summer heat is a simple trip to a lake in the mountains, camping with friends. It is for this very reason that, as mid-summer brought intense rays, a group of three planned their weekend getaway.
From the blazing inferno of the concrete jungle, three young girls packed up the car. Tent? Check. Cooler? Check. Cookware? Check. Water, clothes, swimsuits and toiletries? Check, check, check and check.
A short couple hours away awaited the relaxing bliss of the mountain breeze, fresh forest air and a late the cool down in. The music was blaring, and the trio was on their way.
At the campground gate, they all climbed out, stretching their arms and legs while giggling about if they should jump in the lake before setting up camp. "Come on, you two KNOW that we'll never get our shit ready before it's dark if we go swimming first!" Maria said with an roll of her eyes. "Oh, pull that stick out of your ass, Mar-mar, we're here for a fun weekend, who cares?!" Jenny replied. "Will you two just cool it while I check in? Once we're at our campsite, THEN we can get our swimsuits on and do whatever the hell we want." Amy said, shutting down the argument before it grew. Maria simply huffed and climbed back in the car as Amy spoke with the park ranger. "Alright, we're all set. Let's get camping!" She said, closing the driver door as the gate lifted.
The engine cut out sharply, a trio of doors opening, followed by the trunk. Maria and Amy began to unload all that they could while Jenny grabbed the drink cooler and cracked open a vodka-seltzer. "Jenny! Just help us unload at least, won't you?" Maria blurted without thought. "Hey, hey! I'm just thirsty, girl. I'm helping, I'm helping." She replied, grabbing a duffle-bag and throwing it on the picnic table.
As the last of their things was unloaded, Maria began to unpack the tent, waving her hand as she called out "Hey Amy, can you help me get this up?" "That's what he said!" Jenny giggled, "But Amy's in the bathroom." Maria turned around and found Jenny half-naked, changing into a bikini in broad daylight. "JEN!" She squealed in surprise, "There's other camp grounds here, we aren't alone you know!" She whispered loudly through her teeth. "That's what Amy said, but I don't see anyone, so whatever. She wanted to use the bathroom, I don't give a fuck. We're off to the lake, come on!" But Maria only shook her head and shooed Jenny away, returning to campsite prep.
"I wonder what's taking her... it's just a silly little tent... maybe we should have helped her." "Don't be silly, Amy. Just because Mar-mar's a tight-assed doesn't mean she's right. She should be here enjoying herself with us. That shit can wait." Amy turned her head hesitantly, looking towards the campsite, but countless trees stood between their site and the lake's edge. She sighed and turned back towards the water, opening her mouth to speak again, but not saying a word. Jenny was no longer next to her, instead she was running down the sandy sediment towards the water... the water where, not too deep in, a group of guys were throwing a ball around. Amy shook her head and whispered to herself "She's acting like a bimbo... why is she so desperate all the time..." And with that, she took her leave, off to resolve her regrets, off to help her friend back at the campsite.
"Amy, if that's you, Jenny already went to the lake. You'd think she's allergic to getting anything done. I'm almost done getting the tent up, but could you help me with the slee-" As Maria turned she found a sleeping bag thrown into her arms, blocking her sight. "O...kay... efficient. I get it, you want to go to the lake too." She said, throwing the bag into the tent and turning around again. As she spun, a hand met her cheek. "Y...you're not..." "Not Amy?" A deep voice chuckled. "Not even close. She your girlfriend, doll?" Maria was frozen for a moment, then pushed the man away best she could. "I'm not your doll, and my dating status and preferences aren't important to you, creep!" "Whoa now, no need to be so harsh. I was just trying to offer some help, I didn't realize I was coming off like that... Sorry... uh... sorry lady? I don't know your name so I can't really apologize proper, can I?" "It... fine, it's fine, just... please leave." Maria's arms were crossed, unsure what to think. "Alright, well... listen, I'm really sorry I came on so hard. I'm just a few sites down, but my friends went to the lake while I set up. It looked like the same happened here, so I... yea... you said go, so I'm out. Bye." And with that, the man turned and walked away. "Maria. It's Maria." She said quietly. The man paused and turned, giving a little wave and smiling as he said "Well I'm sorry, Maria. I'm Tom, by the way."
"Hey Mar... I'm so... Mar?" Amy searched the car, the tent, she found no one at their site. She walked around calling out before she heard a familiar giggle. As Amy approached a nearby campsite, she found Maria sat next to a man, chugging from cans as they laughed together. "And this bitch says I have a stick up my ass? Sometimes I think all she wants is someone's stick up hers!" Maria jested, clearly about Jenny, before taking another sip. "MAR! God I had no idea where you were!" Amy squeaked with excitement. "And who's this?" "Oh hey! This is Tom, he came by to help me finish setting up earlier. Come grab a drink and chat!"
Some time passed as the three gossiped and giggled, and as the sun began to set, Tom stood up and started the fire at his campsite. "Why don't you girls join us for dinner tonight?" He asked. Before they could answer, a yell caught everyone's attention. "HEYYYYYYYYY!" It was Jenny, walking up the path with her arms around two men, one to each side.
All six were now at one site, and as the men were prepping food and whispering to each other, the girls were huddled by the fire. "Ho-ly fuck, like... those two... I mean... I think I'm still stretched." Jenny was biting her lip between each word. "You seriously fucked them both?" Maria asked, surprised. "Welllll... I did kind of interrupt their game. They needed to... punish me" Jenny giggled. "And god how good it was." "D..did they..." Amy kept glancing between Jenny's legs, hinting at something. Jenny slipped her hand in her bikini, pulled her fingers out and licked them, then repeated and stuffed them between Amy's lips. "Their cum tastes so good, doesn't it Amy. You should have stayed. I told them how dumb and drippy you get." Amy whimpered, legs shaking, no words escaping her lips. Maria smacked Jenny "Hey! Cut it out. I don't want some stranger fucking Amy. You can act like a whore all you want, but Amy's a good girl." "Yea, your good girl." Jenny rolled her eyes. "I can hear her every time he use that strap on her, you know. But come on, let her have some fun. You should too!" "Alright girls, foods up!" Tom said, acting like he and the others hadn't watched, and overheard, everything.
As they ate, Tom asked Maria to step aside and chat for a moment. "Listen, I uh... may have overheard everything earlier... I just want to make sure things are still cool... like, if you're not comfortable with my friends, I get it... they did kind of... y'know..." "Rape my friends cunt and ass until she was seeping with cum? Yea, I know, she literally begged them to..." Maria shook her head. "But I don't control Jenny, she's... a wild spirit... Amy on the other hand..." "Is submissive and gets attached?" Tom replied, hand on Maria's shoulder. "Yea... I just don't want her getting hurt... at least... emotionally..." Maria tried to make a joke, but it didn't feel natural coming out of her lips. "Listen... we should get back before Joe starts something else with Jen..." Tom motioned towards the campsite and the two returned, only to find Jenny under the table, lips around Joe's cock, hand on Keith's. "Are you serious..." Maria and Tom said in-sync. Amy was just kicking her legs and eating her meal, giggling innocently before turning to Maria. "Their cum was pretty tasty... at least when it came from Jenny's cunt." She giggled again, hand between her legs.
As the night went on, the two groups sat around the fire. Jenny was in Keith's lap, wiggling, likely cockwarming him playfully as far as everything thought. Amy was sat at Maria's side, holding her hand as she watched Joe making s'mores. And Tom and Maria were chatting, ignoring the occasional moan from Jenny and Keith. But come 11, the ranger swung by for lights-out, and the group disbanded for the evening.
Around 2 AM, Maria awoke. Amy was out cold, but Jenny was nowhere to be found. She stepped quietly from the tent to see where her friend was, and quickly found Jenny squatting down to pee. "You know there's a bathroom right down the road... why are you..." Jenny was quick to reply, clearly still drunk, "Oh hey Mar-mar. What, you want a taste? Get a cup, haha." She stumbled as she stood up, not even finished. Maria had to pull her panties up and guide her back to the tent, shaking her head once more. "At least you left the tent... I swear... you're hopeless." "Just because I like cock doesn't mean I'm hopeless!" She said louder than she should have, "It just means I'm a slut, and so what if I am?" "Just come to bed already..."
Around 3 AM, Maria awoke again to a tearing sound. "Bear?!" Was her immediate thought as she tried to jump from her sleeping bag to get the others. But before she was even on her feet, she felt a hand on her throat, pulling her out of a large cut in their tent.
The trees hid the moonlight well, but even in this dark, Maria, Jenny and Amy could see each other's eyes glistening. They were all three forced down to their chins in the dirt in a circle, made to look at each other. Jenny and Amy were gagged, but Maria hadn't been yet. She tried to call out, but the moment she parted her lips, she found something stuffed between them. "Don't be so afraid, Maria. You're safe with me." Tom's voice was a low whisper, but to her, it sounded as if it was screaming through the mountains...
To escape the boiling heat of the city, three friends took a weekend to themselves, up in the mountains, secluded in the woods, a mere walk from the lake. And as they drove, they devised a game for the weekend. There were five goals, and the first to achieve all five was the winner. 1. Get a girl's number. 2. Get someone else to do any taboo or disgusting act. 3. Fuck someone without protection. 4. Give someone a memory they say they'll never forget. 5. Get someone to ask to come home with them, but without asking them about it first.
Tom thought he'd have it easy, finding a sweet girl left all alone to get her campsite set up... But when Joe and Keith came back and already had the first three, possibly four goals complete with one girl... well that's when he knew he had to get competitive. He knew the others wouldn't break the rules, and he could tell Jenny wasn't the type of girl to get clingy like that. Once he knew Maria was protective of Amy, he knew exactly what he needed to do.
He pulled out the phones of all three girls, using their fingers to unlock each one, entering them as contacts, taking pictures of their gagged faces to use before saving. Then he entered his number in all three phones, and tossed them back in the cut tent. Goal 1 complete.
Tom gripped Maria's hair and pulled her up. As the wind blew, the moon's light shone down upon her. The other girls watched as Tom threw her to her back, ripped off her panties, and forced himself inside her cunt. She was wet. He couldn't help but smile and lean in, grunting "I knew you wanted me. I saw it in your eyes right from the start." One thrust. Two thrust. Three. Four. Again and again, his speed increased, his force amplified until he pressed deep and held still, throbbing. Goal 3 complete.
Maria found her self sat, leaning against the tire of her car, legs spread as Tom pulled Amy over to her. "Eat." He said, pulling the gag from her mouth. "You're a good little submissive doll. So eat all that delicious cum from Mar-mar's pretty little slit." Crying, Amy obeyed. Tom stood and watched, wondering if this counted for goal 2 or not, when suddenly, he felt someone brushing against him. Jenny managed to stand up, hands bound behind her back still, lips held apart by her own bikini bottoms. He pulled the fabric from her drooling lips, asking what she wanted and why she was standing. She only giggled, "They've needed this for years, buddy. Please don't leave me out though? I haven't gotten to taste your cum yet." He shook his head, smacked Jenny across the face and forced her to her knees, fucking her lips while he talked to himself about how stupid this all felt... doing this in the dead of night where his friends couldn't see him beating them at their own game.
"Hey Jenny. You know what?" He said as Jenny used her finger to clean the cum around her lips. "Hmmmm, what, sir?" She giggled. Tom looked at Maria, who was crying, crushed by what had occurred, watching someone she genuinely wanted to date face fuck her friend after breeding her the way he did... He looked at Amy, head still between her friend's legs, eating away, not stopping because she hadn't been told to. "Be a good little whore and piss on them." Jenny laughed, and without a second thought, she obliged, saying, "You know, Joe told me about your game. I liked how they played, but I LOVE how you play." Goal 2 complete. Jenny then pulled the gag from Maria's lips and asked her, "Hey, you're going to remember tonight forever, aren't you? We all are." Maria nodded and whimpered "I can never forget..." Goal 4 complete... "You're welcome, by the way!" Jenny said, kissing Tom on the cheek before skipping towards his campsite.
It was nearly 4AM as Jenny skipped back, Joe and Keith in tow, rubbing their eyes. "Holy shit dude. I knew you were competitive but like... holy shit." One of them said as the moonlight shifted. By now, Tom had let go completely. He needed to to not feel regret. Maria was bound in her camp chair, cum leaking from her cunt and ass. Amy was bound at her feet, lips dripping with seed. Neither was gagged. Neither spoke up. Both looked used... broken...
"So... what's the fifth goal, guys? C'mon, I want to see how messed up this game gets!" Jenny exclaimed, not a clue that the final goal, the one they were all competing for the win based on, was honestly so simple... "The thing is, if we tell you, then you can't be a part of the win." Keith said, scratching his head. But Tom pulled her in close, gripped her ass as he told the others she'd never be the win anyway, then whispered to her, "Whoever gets someone to ask for him to take her back home wins." "Ohhhhh, I see." Jenny giggled, "that's not something I would have asked, but maybe I wouldn't say n-" Joe pulled Jenny back against him with a growl "Well, I don't give a fuck if I lose, I'm keeping her." Jenny giggled again and kissed him "Yes master, this little whore is all yours!"
Tom and Keith stepped towards Amy and Maria. "How we gonna do this?" Keith asked. "I'll take Maria. You get Amy." Tom replied. "Don't hold back!" Jenny cheered.
The sound of an electric motor came whirling closer as the ranger pulled near in a golf-cart. His flashlight cast luminous clarity upon the ground as he stepped out and towards the group. "Got some noise complaints, girls, c'mon, it's like 4:30 AM, git back to sleep, will ya?" "I'm so sorry, officer... ranger... uh... your highness?" Jenny wiggled in front of the light. "We uh... y'see... we... kind of got carried away." She ran her fingers across her body. "We're just a couple of really, really horny little lesbians... we can't help ourselves sometimes. Please don't punish us sir? We've gotten our warning, we'll go to bed like good girls." The ranger was completely dumbfounded at the response, "J...j...just... git to sleep alright? One more complaint and I kick y'all out, okay miss?" "Yes sir. We'll be quiet. Promise." And Jenny waved the ranger off with the blow of a kiss. "Damn... you could get out of a life sentence if you wanted to, couldn't you?" Joe laughed quietly. Jenny grabbed his cock and whispered "I'd never. Not if you're the warden."
When sun rose, Tom and Keith were each sat in their camp chairs, barely awake. Joe had gotten the fire going and Jenny was helping get breakfast ready.
Of the two girls, Amy was the first to awake. She found herself sore, with a strange taste in her mouth. She reeked of piss and could feel that a can had been forced in her ass and was left there. "Well good morning, cutie!" Jenny said. "C'mere, we've got a lot to talk about. You were such a good little girl last night." "What about Mar-mar... what happened..." Amy stammered. "Don't worry about her, just let her get her rest, ok?"
An hour later, Maria came to. She was in her sleeping bag, but she hurt. As she climbed out, she saw bruises covering her body. Looking around, she didn't recognize the tent one bit. As she stepped out, her friends took her hands and helped her out, handing her food and juice.
For over an hour, Maria was told all about the events of the evening. An explanation of every bruise. Every sensation. Her head was spinning, the conversation went slow, she touched each spot on her body as she was told of the actions taken upon her. She cried hearing it all started as a game, but as she learned more, her tears became laughter through Jenny's humor. And as she laughed, she felt some warm fluids seep from her holes, soaking into her... well, Jenny's... panties.
At the end of it all, Tom placed a hand on her shoulder, leaning in as he whispered. "Look at their smiles. I promised I wouldn't hurt them." Maria looked down before looking Tom in the eyes and saying "Do you even know what city where we're from... Would we ever even see you again... or are we all just some strangers?" Tom told her where they came from, told them Jenny revealed where the trio of girls lived... a simple 5 minute walk away... Then he just looked Maria in the eyes and waited. Her eyes darted around rapidly, seeking more answers without a word... And then... "Take us with you... and don't let go..."
By weekend's end, two cars left the campgrounds. Maria keeping close behind Tom. The girls gossiped about their new boyfriends and the dynamics they hoped for. The guys chat was focused on how competitive and fucked up Tom truly is, and talking about how unfair it was that he won their game. As Maria parked next to Tom, she couldn't help but wonder... what was the reward for winning anyway? Before she thought too deeply, Amy's voice chimed through the silence, "Hey Jenny... you already knew those guys, didn't you?"

Original post: 08/15/22 at 9:33PM EST.
Mood Music Monday Submission Title: If Only... For the Night Pairings: Drake x Riley / Past pairing of Drake x Kiara / Liam x Riley Status: Still in the writing process Song Inspiration: Set Fire to the Rain by Adele
The cool wind pushes my hair back as I walk along the familiar path, every step taking me deeper into the past. It’s been years since I’ve been here; everything is different.
Everything is the same.
I’m not paying attention to the present as I walk, I’m too lost in memories of long ago. That’s why I don’t notice the person walking towards me until I hear a familiar voice call my name.
I freeze. It can’t be. What are the odds?
I lift my head as my eyes dart wildly around before finally landing on a face I’d recognize anywhere, even now.
“It’s you.”
I slowly gazed up into his eyes. He had always made me weak in the knees, and when he looked my way for a brief moment in time, I thought I had finally found something I was looking for. I thought I had found love, and I did, but it was only for the night.
“Hello Drake.”
“Kiara, how are you doing? Haven’t seen you in quite some time.”
“Almost three years. What brings you to Portavira?”
I glanced down at my phone to check the time. Zeke should be arriving shortly.
“I came here with Riley for a meeting. She didn’t really need me so I thought I would take a walk through the park. What brings you here?”
“I had met up with Zeke and Penelope for a bit, before I leave for Castelsarreillan.”
“So I’m guessing you didn’t see Riley.”
“No, I did not encounter the Duchess of Valtoria in all her glory.”
“Kiara….”
I glanced down at my phone again. I’m glad Zeke wasn’t on time.
“Kee….”
“You don’t get the right to call me that anymore.”
Drake looked visibly uncomfortable. And he should. This conversation is one the two of us should have had a long time ago, but we didn’t.
“You’re right. I’m sorry about the way I handled things.”
“You didn’t handle them at all Drake. You thought Riley chose Liam, so you chose me, for the night, and then when you found out Riley was in love with you, you ghosted me. I wasn’t even a blip on your radar anymore. You told me you never wanted a title, and here you are now as the Duke of Valtoria. You don’t even look the same anymore. You sold out for her.”
“What do you want me to say Kee…. Kiara? I love her! I always looked at her… the way you looked at me.”
“UNTIL YOU LOOKED BACK AT ME THAT NIGHT!!!” I screamed at him. I turned around to face the ocean, so he wouldn’t see the tears I had in my eyes because of him…. Yet again.
The Good Part (Finale Part 1) The Rotten Apple 🍎 The Book: TRH & Beyond Pairings: Eleanor x Nico (Eleanor x M!OC) Status: Still in the writing process
Nico sat at the table thinking Ana would sit next to him, instead she sat close to Elle.
“Is she allergic to anything Nico?”
“No she isn’t, and she’s not a picky eater at all.”
“Giagiá is the best cook. Papa cooks okay.”
“Papa cooks okay? You always clean your plate when I cook for you.”
Elle laughed.
“Can you cook?” Ana asked her.
“Ana.” Nico’s voice was a little stern when he saw the embarrassed blush on Elle’s cheeks.
“It’s okay, Nico. No Ana. I don’t know how, but I can learn.”
“That’s okay, I can help, so can Papa, and Giagiá won’t let us be hungry.”
Nico smiled as Ana continued talking to Elle. He had never seen Ana open up so much to someone almost so immediately, or Elle for that manner.
Elle smiled and eyes widened as Ana told the story of how she had sneaked out of the house early that morning and hid in the back of Nico’s SUV.
She chuckled harder at Nico’s surprised face, and his slack jaw.
“You are quite the escape artist.” Elle smiled. “The apple didn’t fall far from the tree. That sounds like your Papa.”
Ana rested her head on Elle. Elle seemed surprised at first but embraced her.
“I’m so glad you’re here right now Ana.”
After they ate, they played checkers, then with the frisbee. Both Elle and Ana took off their sandals to play in the grass. And as much as Nico had wanted to spend some time with Elle to figure out what all this was truly going to mean for them, he knew this time with them together rebonding was more important. He had Ana for years, Elle only had the afternoon getting to know their daughter. So Nico let go of the little twinges of jealousy he had with Ana choosing to be close to Elle, and he hung back and let Ana and Elle have that special time together.
“I have something for you. If you don’t like it, that's okay; I’ll understand. You might not even like them anymore.”
“Like what?” Ana inquired.
Elle held out the little pink teddy bear for Ana to take.
“It used to be yours when you were a baby, but you left it. So I kept it for you. It used to smell like you.”
“I love it! Thank you!” Ana hugged Elle again, then afterwards hugged the bear close breathing in the bear’s fur.
“Now it smells like you Mommy.”

“+This face mask feels great. And the smell... What did you put in it?
-Thanks! Avocado, pomegranate and pineapple.
+…. Oh… I guess this is a good time to tell you I’m allergic to pineapple.”
Could you do it with Thomas??
this is so random but so cute, I literally adore it. I based it in canon but Newt is still alive because ✨I miss him ✨
Your fingers smoothed over Thomas’ face, watching as he perched on the edge of your bed. Hair pushed back by a weak piece of elastic, sticking up add odd angles and eyes closed, he let you. Rubbing the mixture into his skin, he hummed a little, fingers flexing against the bedding, and you chuckled.
“Was’ so funny?” He kept his mouth small as he spoke, carefully not to disturb the layers of fruit paste on his skin, and you couldn’t help but laugh again.
“Nothin’, really. Your hair looks funny pushed back, I guess. Of all the people I expected to fill in for Brenda when she bailed on girl’s night, you were probably the last.” He let out a little sigh, lashes fluttering open when you stepped back, and he shrugged, leaning back on his hands further on the bed.
“Who did you expect?”
“Hmm..” Swiping up the towel from the pile of things on the bedside table, including half a bowlful of mixture for yourself, you wiped down your fingers and palms. “Newt, probably. He loves these kinda’ things.”
“Well, it does feel good. Smells good too.” He sniffed dramatically as though to make his point, wiggling his brows and smiling cheekily when you laughed. “What’s in it?”
“Just the things I could get my hands on around here, or Fry would spare from the stocks.” You shrugged, his eyes closed once again, leaning back with a happy hum. “Avocado, pomegranate, I think, and pineapple.”
“Wait, what?” He sat up straight, stiffened a little, and you jumped slightly at the suddenness of his reaction. “What was that last one?”
“Pineapple?”
“Oh..” It was your turn for curiosity, taking a step forwards, fingers tightening against the material in your hands. “Guess this would be a good time to tell you I’m allergic to pineapple.”
“Thomas!” Panic filled you, closing the small space between you and leaning across him to begin wiping at his skin, trying to remove as much of the paste as you could, as quickly as possible. He laughed, leaning back a little as you did, and you weren’t sure what was so funny, but you leaned further. One knee on the bed beside his thigh as you steadied yourself with your free hand on his shoulder. “Oh, my God. I’m gonna’ kill everyone’s favourite hero with a facemask!”
“I’m only a little bit allergic, it’s okay!” He was still grinning, but he gave up trying to pull away, letting you wipe at his face carefully, hands sitting on your hips to steady you as you leant over him.
“That’s still allergic, Tommy!” Sparing your hand from his shoulder, you cupped his chin, twisting his head from side to side, checking for any more of the paste on his skin. He was red in a few areas, places that would likely come up in hives, and you pouted at the state of his skin, guilt crawling through your veins. “I should go get a fresh towel and some water.”
“No, you should stop panicking.” Liberating one hand from your hips long enough to take the towel, and throw it away to the floor, it was quickly returning, fingers spreading out over your skin and tucking just under the edge of your shirt. As you took a deep breath, you became acutely aware of the way you were positioned, only one foot on the floor now, hovering over him, almost straddling him. And he was letting you.
“Your face is all red, now.” He only shrugged, cheeky smile gone, an expression you couldn’t quite read as you stared at him, frown only getting deeper as you took in the damage.
“I’ll be fine. I’ve been through considerably worse.”
Your eyes rolled at his joke, you couldn’t help it, but chuckled nonetheless. “Why did you even let put this stuff on your face? if you’d been off climbing trees and throwing rocks, or whatever you boys do, you’d be just fine.”
“Yeah, but if I was off doing that, I wouldn’t get to spend time with you. Just you, and me. It’s kinda’ rare to get any alone time around here, y’know.”
He was staring, with such an honest and vulnerable expression, that it felt like something raw had been cracked open inside of you. Thomas making your heart race or butterflies fly free in your stomach was nothing new, but feeling like this was. You raised your other leg, kneeling on the other side of him, and sinking down slowly to sit in his lap. He beamed as you did. “You know, next time, maybe we hang out and do something that isn’t gonna’ ruin your handsome face.”
“You think I’m handsome?” He was back to being cheeky, a Thomas you were so used to now, that had once been so startling when he’d started to let it show after everything you’d all been through.
“I think you know your handsome, and I think you know I think it, too.”
“You really think that if I thought you thought I was handsome, I would have waited this long to do this?”
“You’re making it sound like a-” Warm lips silenced you, a soft kiss, tentative and scared and worried of being rejected, but how could you?
Fingers tangled in his hair, tugging a little as his confidence grew. Tongues and teeth and everything that made your head spin, like nothing mattered except for him. His hands inched up a little higher, gripping at your waist, holding you so tight you hoped he’d never let you go, and you hated when his lips trailed away from yours.
Kissing along your cheek to your jaw, his nose buried against your neck, toppling back to lay on the bed and take you with him, laughing softly into your neck when you squealed. “Next time, I promise no pineapple.”
“Next time, huh? What makes you think I want a next time, after you tried to kill me this time?”
“Well,” Your hand cupped his cheek, thumb running across his lips, and his eyes crossed as he tried to watch you, a goofy act that only made him more endearing. “Nobody kisses like that, unless they want to do it again.”
“You gonna’ let me do it again.”
“Let you do it as much as you want.” You promised, his brows raising a little, and the edges of his lips flicked up to smirk. “Whenever you want.”
“Sounds like you’re saying you like me.”
“Maybe I am.” Dipping down to brush your nose with his, he smiled, moving up to meet you, tracing gently, your foreheads resting together.
“Good, because I’m pretty sure you’ve gotta’ be crazy about someone to let them put pineapple on your face when-”
“Oh, shut up.” Your chastising silenced him, another kiss to follow, and for once, he did exactly as he was told.

Only (a salty) human
Marinette is gonna be OOC
“As long as you and I both know the truth, does it really matter?”
Yes, Marinette decided. Yes, it matters very much.
Marinette took hold of Adrien’s hand, blushing furiously as she did so, and pulled him into a private corner.
Marinette: Adrien, I don’t want to humiliate Lila, but her lies are hurting people. They’re hurting our friends, they’re hurting me. Hell, she’s even lying about Ladybug. Do you honestly think Ladybug would like that.
Yeah, Adrien saw firsthand how much Ladybug hated liars.
Adrien: but people lie all the time. And how is she hurting everyone?
Marinette: seriously? Adrien, she shoved me to the back of the class just to sidle up to you. Do you know what it’s like? I let Chloe bully me out of my seat before and I’m not going to let Miss Liar do it again.
Adrien: well, I could sit next to you, if you want.
While Marinette felt thrilled by this, his pacifying nature was also kind of infuriating.
Marinette: you don’t get it, do you? Your silent method may seem all high and above at first, but it’s not. I didn’t protest because everyone kept pressuring me to ignore the fact that they just changed seats without my consent. Is that what being your everyday Ladybug means? Staying silent when you know something is wrong? Because that seems really messed up. The real Ladybug would never have allowed wrongs to go by without speaking up.
And another thing, why do you seem to care so much about Lila being akumatized? I was almost akumatized this afternoon. And once the truth is known, Rose will probably be akumatized. This whole Lila situation will end with someone being akumatized no matter which direction we choose to take. What matters is how we deal with it.
Adrien: you were almost akumatized.
Marinette: yes; when Lila threatened me. She’s not looking to make friends, Adrien. She’s a bully, like Chloé, only sneakier.
Marinette took a deep breath. “And I don’t care if you disagree or not, but I am done letting bullies tell me what to do. I am done with that, even if everyone turns against me, at least I won’t have the guilt of watering the lying tree.”
With another firm breath, Marinette stomped out.
Originally she wanted to call out Lila for the ear comment but thinking through it, Lila could have said it was a slip of the tongue. She needed stronger proof.
Taking out her phone, Marinette made a call.
A few minutes later, Marinette walked up to the group. “Hey Lila, can you tell us again about how you got your tinnitus?”
Raising an eyebrow and suspecting Marinette was looking for loopholes in her story, Lila nonetheless obliged her with the story of Jagged’s pet kitten.
A sound of choking penetrated the air. “Kitten? Is she kidding me? What Jagged fan would believe I ever owned a kitten? I’m allergic to fur!”
Everyone recognized that British accent. Lila paled.
Everyone looked around only to see Marinette taking her phone out of her pocket, revealing Jagged’s face on her phone.
Marinette: but isn’t there more? Didn’t you tell us, Lila, that Jagged wrote a song about you?
Jagged: Why the hell would I write a song about a minor? Please tell me you didn’t believe her, Marinette.
Marinette: at first I did. But then I realized she was nothing but a liar.
Jagged: don’t worry, I’ll sic my lawyers on her. Especially if there are people who believe her.
As Jagged ended the connection to call for Penny, Marinette kept her focus on Lila.
The class stared round at Lila. “So you don’t know Jagged.”
Before Lila could react, Marinette spoke. She knew the dangers of Lila’s acting.
“So if you don’t know Jagged, then why did you rearrange our seating? And since I doubt your medical disabilities are real, why did you have our classmates buy your rather expensive lunch set?”
Recalling how Lila had taken their money, the others now steered clear. Any feelings of pity were now less likely.
Lila screamed, “how dare you?”
Marinette: how dare I? What was it you called the class? Stupid? And since I was smarter than they were, I had better play along or you would turn them against me, as you so easily proved during lunch?
More guilty looks.
Marinette: in fact now that I think about it, if you are so concernéd about who is lying? Why don’t we just ask your mother if you were really in Achu? If she agrees that you were there for months instead of skipping school, then I won’t argue and I’ll even apologize. What do you say Lila? As class president, I even have her number for emergencies. Shall we call her?
Lila paled even further. With rage? With fear? “Don’t you dare! ...she’s very busy with work.”
Marinette: no mother would ever think work was more important than her daughter. And she pressed the button.
Everyone held their breath. The confrontation had drawn such a large crowd that Lila couldn’t run away anymore. She was surrounded.
The call was answered. “Hello.”
Marinette: hello, is this Lila Rossi’s mother?
Mrs Rossi: yes. Is something wrong?
Marinette: oh it’s nothing serious. We are just missing the official documents for Lila’s school leave. We understand that it is a noble cause for helping Prince Ali organize his charities, but rules are rules.
Mrs Rossi: I’m sorry, but what charities?
Everyone stared either at the phone or Lila.
As Marinette recounted what Lila told the class, there was a long silence.
Mrs Rossi: Lila told me that the school had been shut down for months because of the akumas.
Marinette: yes, school does get cancelled because of akumas, but since they are stopped within the day, classes resume the next day.
Mrs Rossi: thank you for telling me this. I think it’s time I went down to the school and had a chat with your Teachers.
Lila: mama, don’t listen to her! She’s been akumatized.
Marinette: if I’m akumatized then why are you even here?
Lila: I’m being held captive.
Student: um, you’re just sitting on the bench.
Anyway, Lila is exposed. The akuma was actually gone. Let’s just say Adrien listened to Marinette and kept watch. Sensing the akuma, Plagg pointed it out and Adrien caught it before transforming to use cataclysm. He doesn’t like killing butterflies but the dangers of this butterfly cannot be ignored.
Lila was expelled the very same day she returned to school. The class apologized to Marinette, who felt weird after being so salty. Adrien apologized as well for not thinking things through.

daybreak | sal fisher x fem!reader - 3. frogger
Previous | Next
[warnings: cursing, smoking, light violence, blood]
"i don't want to be friends. i want all of you."
—
"Can I get your number?"
You and Larry both whip around to face Sal, the person who'd spoken that sentence. You're stood at the foot of Addison's Apartments.
"What?" You blink. "Me? My what?"
You assume Sal mirrors your nonplussed expression because he bats his eyes just as startled as you did. "Uh- your phone number. So we can be in touch easier. You know, for school and stuff."
Eager anxiousness in the form of butterflies batted their wings in your gut and your ribs. You reached into your back pocket, flipped your flip-phone open, and handed it toward the blue-haired boy. "Here," you blurted. "Put it in there." You gloss your eyes toward Larry. For some apparent reason, he's wearing a wide, shit-eating grin.
"You can put yours in too if you want."
He waves a tan hand. Your attention is on Larry, but it somehow drifts and you're glancing toward Sal. His veiny hands are jerking which each movement of his thumbs as he presses numbers on the keypad.
"No, that's okay," Larry replied, stuffing his hands in his pockets. "I'll get it off of Sal."
"Here," Sal holds the flip phone out to you. It's small in his hand.
He has long fingers, you thought.
"Oh, thanks." Your fingers brush his as you reclaim your phone and return it to it's place in your back pocket.
Your heart is beating unnecessarily loud by the time they've walked you to your apartment. Your hands are in your coat pockets to conceal the mild trembling in your hands. You're almost nervous that they can hear the rushing of your blood as your heart rapidly pumps it through your body—because you know you certainly can.
"I had fun today," you smiled, your expression nothing but sincerity. "Thanks for everything. I appreciate it."
Larry grins. "That's cute. No need to thank us, alright?"
You twitch the corner of your lips upward and nod towards him.
Sal tucks a strand of blue hair behind his ear—you'll never get used to the color. In a good way. You could look at it for hours—and fiddles with his backpack strap. "See you tomorrow, yeah?"
"Yeah," you respond, your teeth making an appearance. "Goodnight, you guys."
With that, you're inside of your apartment and shutting the door behind you. You hear their muffled voices and unintelligible words through the wall as they retreat from your door and towards the elevator.
You drop your bag at the door and make haste to your room. You sit on the side of your bed and hurriedly open your phone.
The first phone number you'd ever had—save your mother, which doesn't count— was "c you tomorrow :)", sitting right beneath "Mom" on the contact list. After changing his name to "Sal :)" you breathed out shakily, and slowly pushed enter on his contact.
Should you send him something? Isn't that a bit weird? You'd just seen him a few minutes ago. Should you wait a little longer? What if he's still with Larry, and they see what you'd sent a message so quickly and make fun of you?
You shake your head. That was unlikely. All they'd been was great to you.
"c you tmrw."
You inwardly linger over the thought of pressing the send button.
Why the fuck were you so nervous, anyway? Because a boy with nice hands and a pretty laugh said he'd see you tomorrow?
Yeah.. okay, maybe that was it.
"c you tmrw." The message was sent.
You slapped a hand over your face. Should you have said something else? Should you just have not texted him at all? You fell back into the mattress, draping your arm over your face and blinking into your wrist. The feeling of exhilarated dread churned in your gut.
A subtle vibration reverberated on the comforter. It buzzed in your ears momentarily. You paused, before lurching upward and snatching the phone back into your grasp.
"you too. let's try not to rouse mrs. packerton's suspicions tomorrow like we did today lol."
You grinned, and replied before you could stop yourself. "might not be possible. you may need to answer another math question for me."
Sal replied after a pause. "can't say no to that. goodnight, y/n"
You breathed out slowly, typed out a goodnight message, and slowly dropped your hands back down to the comforter.
Your fingers shook and your heart was beating itself against your rib cage. Not long after, you dozed off into sleep thinking of the way your body felt when the warmth of his palm was flush against the nape of your neck.
Getting up the next day is a bit harder than getting up the previous one. You couldn't seem to rub the sleep away from your eyes, and, for some reason or another—you'd waken up in a cold sweat, and your sheets stuck to your body. Not only that, when you'd went to shower, the water was freezing, for no apparent reason. You'd come to terms with the fact that this building had multiple personalities.
Standing beneath the shower head felt like being pricked with itty-bitty pitchforks. Topped with miniature ice cubes.
You'd gotten dressed in an oversized black sweater (over a long-sleeved, black top for added warmth), along with an a-lined plaid emerald green and blue skirt on top of your sheer black tights. The skirt was not short—not amongst your standards, it was mid-thigh—but nowadays teachers were weird about how girls dressed so you'd have to keep an eye out about that.
Also, surprisingly—instead of the usual beat up and raggedy sneakers you usually wore you decided on some of your chunky Mary Janes you'd thrifted not long back. You'd never given them a go outside before. The only time they'd been worn was in your room and by yourself.
When you were fully dressed, you let yourself examine your outfit in the mirror. While doing so, your phone chimes in your hand. You snap it open hastily and read the notification.
"it's larry. sal gave me your number :P meet us outside when ur ready"
You grinned and walked out of your room. You grabbed your bag and made for the door. When you'd gotten outside, what greeted you there was not exactly what you'd expected.
"Oh! Ashley, is this yours?" You inquired, gazing over the pale silver Ford Fiesta that sat in the driveway. It was a cute car. Ash sat in the driver's seat with the window down and her forest green eyes attentive and on you.
"Yeah! My little brother had an allergic reaction while eating out at some big corporate food chain and we got it in compensation. We already have a family car so it was given to me."
What a nice story, you thought, making sure you maintained your pleasant expression.
"Oh," you passed your gaze over the vehicle again. "Cool!"
You noted Todd's place in the passenger seat. You met his eye and gently waved. He returned the wave, with that neutral look on his face he always seemed to have.
"You're going to be cold," a voice behind you says rather abruptly. You jump, whirling around.
"You scared me," you laughed, your face burning as you made eye contact with none other than Sal Fisher. "What do you mean?"
"Your skirt," he replies, glancing away momentarily. Your eyebrows raise comically.
"You don't like it?"
"No-" he rushes out, a bit too fast. "Uh, no. It's g- it's nice. I meant you're going to be cold in it."
He was right. It was nearing the end of August.
You pass your eyes over your legs, from the a-lined skirt, the sheer black tights, and the chunky Mary Janes. You return your gaze to his—not before catching a glinting glimpse of what seemed to be rings adorning his fingers—and shrugged.
"Oh well. All I'm worried about is being dress coded," you look to Larry, who's near Sal. "Good morning."
"You too," he grins. "Let's get in the car. It's chilly."
You all clamber into the backseat. You're in between Sal and Larry. Hot air blew from the car vents and hit you in the face as Ashley turned the temperature up further. While doing that, she turns on the radio and channel surfs until she's found some sort of soft rock station. She turns it up to a moderate volume.
A car freshener in the shape of a red tree dangled from the rearview mirror and swayed as Ashley put the car in reverse and pulled out of the driveway. It had a charming illustration of what resembled two strawberries on the front.
The car smelled nostalgic—like the smell of the hair on one of those Strawberry Shortcake dolls you owned as a child.
The wistful scent is abruptly overpowered by the smell of smoke and the autumn air. Larry had rolled a window down and had just lit a cigarette to your left. On your right, Sal has pulled out his flip phone and is playing some sort of shit quality version of Frogger.
Interested, you lean over.
"How'd you get that on there?"
He looks over at you. He's close. You can hear him slowly inhaling and exhaling through his nose. "Todd did it for me," Sal replies. He gestures toward you with the phone. The phone makes a sound. The digital frog had fallen into the water. "Wanna play?"
"Oh," you pause, and smile. "I like watching you."
His eyes flicker over your face. "Okay."
He returned to the game. Finally, you had an excuse to stare down at his hands. Multiple silver and black rings adorned his hands. They fit him perfectly—snug on his pretty fingers and accenting his veiny hands perfectly.
During your examination, you hadn't exactly realized it but your cheek was now flush against his shoulder and your hair was tickling his neck.
No, you weren't smelling him, but it was hard not to scent it when you inhaled through your nose. He smelled of delicate laundry detergent—fresh, clean—and of minty vanilla. Breathing that in made you feel what was probably the most at home you'd felt in months.
You glanced up from his hands, to his Adam's apple, to his prosthetic face—his gaze remained attentive on the flip phone, dark lashes moving along to accommodate his flickering eyes. You looked away before he'd noticed, and paid attention to the game.
"You're good," you commented.
He didn't reply immediately, almost as if he'd looked over at you. The side of your face remained on his shoulder and your hair still brushed against the skin on his neck.
"Well, it's only Frogger," he remarked. "I bet you're better. Try it."
The sudden scent of ashy smoke consumed your senses. Larry must have exhaled halfway inside of the car. The vapor floated for a moment before dissipating into nothing.
You took the phone from Sal's hands and shifted in your seat to sit straight up. You pressed play on the game, and within seconds your frog had fallen into the water.
"I suck."
"No, you don't. You're just not trying hard enough."
"Potato, Potahto," you reply, shortly laughing at yourself and pressing play again nonetheless.
Suddenly, the vehicle slammed to a halt. You held onto the phone tight in one hand and steadied yourself on the passenger seat in front of you with your other one.
Sal seemed to have the same idea, except he seemed to panic and had braced yourself on your knee instead. You could have sworn you saw white for a split second, your insides jumping and chills fluttering down your spine. He quickly retracted his touch, catching your eye immediately.
"Sorry," Sal uttered.
"That's okay," you'd done a fine job gathering yourself together. "Perfectly fine."
"Jesus Christ, Ash! What the hell was that?" Larry calls from your left, the cigarette between his pointer and middle fingers. He was halfway through exhaling his smoke when he spoke again. Vapor spilled from his lips as he stared at the front of the vehicle. "Trying to kill us?"
"Whoops! Sorry guys, I almost missed the red light."
"That wasn't very wise," Todd remarked from the passenger seat, turning his head to look at Ash. You couldn't help but shortly giggle, looking back down at Sal's phone.
You heard Sal slowly exhale a breath of relief beside you.
"Yeah, anything but fucking wise," Larry scoffed. "Thought I was about to die, dude."
"I said I was sorry," you could hear the roll of Ashley's eyes in her voice. "My parents would kill me if I got a ticket. Also, who told you that you could smoke in my car?"
"I did." In your peripheral vision, he was staring blankly. "What're you going to do about it?"
In the rearview mirror, Ashley squinted her eyes but said nothing.
"This is a shit show," Sal murmured, looking back to his phone in your hands. You'd returned to the game, still attempting at getting past the first level. The digital frog continuously leaped over lily pads and logs. It was almost therapeutic.
"Sorry you don't want me back here, Sal." Larry's tone had transformed from mildly annoyed to slightly bitter. His cigarette had been held unattended for a decent amount of time so it had begun to burn out. "I didn't ask to third wheel."
You blinked and convinced yourself you'd heard him wrong.
You weren't looking at Sal's face. He was silent for a few seconds.
"Just chill out, alright?"
"I'll say what I want."
"It's too early for this, Larry," Sal bit out. "Cut it the fuck out."
Your heart pumped furiously.
"Where do you want to take this, Sal?"
Ashley jumped in incredibly quick, the car jerking as she turned the wheel abruptly, pulling the vehicle into the school's parking lot. "Fuck no. What the fuck are you thinking, Larry? Going to fight Sal because you're in a pissy mood?"
"I'm not going to fucking fight him, Ashley," He shook his head. "It's just- apparently he's got some kind of vendetta against me today so I guess we could talk somewhere else-"
"That's in your head, Larry," Sal said honestly. "I don't know what makes you think I have something against you today, but I don't. I don't know how you want me to prove that to you."
Larry settles into silence as Ashley pulls the Ford Fiesta into a parking space.
"Just- put the cigarette out and calm down, okay?"
It didn't look like the smoke had much left in it, but Larry still drew one last hit out of it before he stepped out of the car and crushed it beneath his shoe. He throws his bag over his shoulder and slams the car door behind him.
You look over at Sal, who was reaching for the door handle. Ashley and Todd had already exited the vehicle, and Ashley was standing by and waiting for you both to get out so she could lock the car.
"Hey," you murmured before he could leave. The blue-haired boy turned his head and inquired you with raised eyebrows. "Try to be patient with him, when you two talk it out. I haven't known him long—but I can tell he's the sort of person that wouldn't act like that unless something's bothering him."
Sal looks down at you thoughtfully, his Adam's apple bobbing in his throat. You hear him swallow thickly. "Yeah," he muttered. "He is that type of person. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks."
With that, you both exit the vehicle and Ashley locks the car. Todd and Larry had already walked up a measured distance ahead of the three of you.
"Do you know what that might have been about?" Ashley asks, directing the question toward Sal by holding eye contact with him. You walk to Sal's left, looking ahead as to not be intrusive on the conversation.
"Uh.." he trails off. A cool breeze filters past your face and legs and it makes you shiver. "Not really. Usually, it's about his mom. Whenever they've argued about something, it puts him in a bad mood."
Ashley seems to give herself a moment to reply.
"Anything else?"
Sal does the same.
"Not that I know of."
Your eyebrows twitch downward.
Ashley walks slightly ahead of the two of you. She calls your name, and you look up from the ground, startled. "How are you liking the apartments? Anytime I've been there, they're kind of creepy."
You giggle. "Yeah. You could say that. I'd say they're alright—it gets kind of cold. The water was fucking ice cold today. Could barely shower."
Ashley mirrors your laughter. "Anything else?"
You pause. "Larry has this really great treehouse. I don't know if you've been, but it's honestly pretty cool. It's homey."
She looks up to Sal in surprise. "She's already been? When did you guys show her?"
He tucks a strand of hair behind his ear. "Uh, well, we didn't necessarily show her.."
Ashley looks at you curiously. You sarcastically pout towards Sal, finding his eyes to be twinkling with amusement. "I may have broken into it."
"Oh, you didn't break into it," Sal protests, exhaling sharply through his nose in a gentle chuckle. "You just didn't realize it was inhabited."
You look towards Ashley. "Long story short—I found a cool treehouse. Thought it was abandoned. Climbed into it. Coincidentally, Sal and Larry climbed into the treehouse while I was in it. It was embarrassing."
"It wasn't. It was funny," You could hear Sal's grin. "She smoked for the first time that day."
Ashley's jaw dropped in faux-astonishment. "You've tainted her innocence."
You smile. "It was honestly kind of horrible at first."
Before you knew it, the three of you had entered the school. After a few more minutes of banter and friendly conversation, you and Sal parted ways from Ashley to head towards your first class of the day: math.
Once again, Mrs. Packerton had given the class a math sheet. For god knows why she expected you to know all of these things off of the bat and get all of the questions right with barely any assistance. You were stuck on one problem like it always went.
Someone nudged your arm. You looked to your left and smiled at who was looking at you. He glanced down at your paper. "The answer's-"
"Is there something you'd like to share with the class, Mr. Fisher?"
Fuck, you thought, slowly looking up to your elderly teacher. Glancing over to Sal, his eyebrows were raised and he peered up at the woman at the front of the classroom with something akin to surprise in his eyes. "Uh-"
Before he could explain himself, Mrs. Packerton's entire facade did a 180 and her eyebrows were suddenly furrowed and her frown was deep-set. It was almost comical, and you strained to keep the laugh in. You weren't looking to break a rib, so you unfortunately giggled beneath your breath.
Her dark brown eyes slid over to you. After a moment of being examined and feeling extremely uncomfortable, she sighed.
"I'm administering detention for both of you, after school. I will let you finish the test, but next time this happens it'll be an immediate fail for both of you. Understood?”
You and Sal exchange both equally supposed expressions, before nodding together.
Before class is over, you see Travis giving Sal another sour look. Oh my god, you thought, twirling your pencil around in between your fingers. Is this going to have to be another talk, Travis?
The bell rang. You and Sal jumped up and fled the class as quickly as you could.
"Oh my god," he breathed, as you both stepped into the hallway and began maneuvering through the countless amount of students flooding the halls. "She's super fucking scary. I was so wrong."
You abruptly laugh. "Yeah. She's got that look in her eye." You pause. "I'm sorry, Sal. You wouldn't be getting a detention if it wasn't for me."
Sal tilts his head just slightly. "It's no big deal. It was my fault, anyway. It's not like you asked for my help either times I helped you out. It's not like my dad's going to be mad, anyway—he'll probably be relieved. I've never really got detention for anything, especially involving talking to another person. Probably'll be glad I'm being more social, haha."
You frown. "I'm still sorry."
"I appreciate it, but you don't have to be-"
"If only your friend wasn't so dumb, Sally Face. It's a shame that your perfect record is all tarnished."
Sal appears as though he knew who was talking a few words in. He inhales, turns around to face the blond boy behind him, and backs up a step. "What do you want, Travis?"
Your fingernails sink into your palms. It stings. You told him yesterday!
"Nothing. Just wanna know why she's so stupid."
Sal's eyes flicker. "Mm, think you're forgetting about how close you were to failing mid-terms last year. You're not very bright yourself."
Travis grows a bit red but he looks as though he's trying to ignore his growing frustration. It boggled you—the fact he was so easy to anger because of the fact Sal was defending himself. Defending.. you?
"Whatever. Why am I fucking arguing with a fucking satan worshipper, anyway?"
That genuinely surprised you. What kind of insult was that? And where did it come from?
"Whatever, Travis. God doesn't like bullies, either. I hope you don't kiss your daddy with that mouth-"
You're glad the hall is relatively empty because the crack you hear when Travis' fist meets Sal's prosthetic face is loud and startling. Your heart is in your throat. You place your hands on Travis' chest and push him into the lockers. The metal cages rattle beneath the sudden weight.
"What the FUCK is wrong with you?" You shout, red hot anger coursing through your body and pumping through your veins. "Get the fuck away. I swear to god, I'll-"
Sal murmurs your name, gripping your wrist. "Stop. Don't push him."
You give Travis the bitchiest expression you can muster. He scoffs and walks away. You're surprised he didn't throw one last insult into the air—but he instead walked down the hall with heavy footing, turned around the corner, and disappeared.
As soon as you're done watching him down the hall, you whip around to Sal with wide eyes. He was cupping the place where the mask cut off, collecting blood that dripped down.
"He's got a mean right hook," Sal breathily laughed.
The rage you currently felt made your head hurt. You quickly grabbed him by the wrist and hurried him towards the restrooms at the opposite side of the hall. On your way, the bell rings. You couldn't care less whether or not you were going to miss your class—it's not like you didn't have detention already.
"Hey, what're you-"
You pull him into the girl's bathroom, which was empty. You make sure to turn him away from the entrance. His eyes are as wide as two dinner plates.
"Huh. Smells nice in here," he comments. The fact that's the first thing he says tells you he's clearly in shock from being clocked in the face.
You grab some paper towels and look him in the eye.
"I'm going to clean you up now,"
You reach around his head.
"Hey, I- wait, you don't-"
You unbuckle the clasps at the back of his prosthetic and pull the prosthetic off of his face. You set it aside, and set it on the edge of the sink.
He slowly meets your gaze. The amount of internal fear that's held inside of those eyes—fear you know that's been held in for so long—is astonishing to you. Your eyes soften. You slide your gaze over his face, and all you can feel is an unbelievable amount of happiness and satisfaction.
Butterflies swarm your insides and beat against your ribs at the sight of his mouth.
It's just as kissable as you'd imagined.
Shut the fuck up, you snap back at yourself. Not the time.
You're unable to hold in the large smile that grows on your lips as you bring the paper towels toward his face and wipe away the blood that dripped from his nose, down his mouth, and fell down his chin—there was so much of it that it had made its way down to the collar of his shirt, staining the material scarlet red.
"You can give that to me later," you uttered. "I know a thing or two about getting blood out of clothes, haha."
His lips twitched, but he remained silent and let you do your thing.
After thoroughly cleaning his face off, you return the prosthetic to him, handling it with care.
"Here you go."
After he'd put it on, you met his eyes.
"Hey, Sal, I'm-"
"It's okay." He peered at you sincerely. "That went.. better than I thought it would. I just hope you don't think of me differently."
The thought appalled you.
"No!" You exclaimed, a bit too forceful. You gathered your composure and tried it again. "No. Um- I could never. Seriously. Your face doesn't change who you are, Sal. It doesn't make me think of you any different. You're still you. Besides, I- um... I liked it."
His eyebrows jump and he jerks his head upward. "What?"
"I liked it. I liked your face."
He was silent like it was taking him a little bit to process that. Your eyes wandered during this time, and they landed on the collar of his shirt, again. You cursed.
"Shit. Hold on."
Suddenly, you'd crossed your arms around your midriff and began pulling the sweater upward. The noise Sal made was almost comical.
"No, uh, you don't have to! It's fine, I can-"
Before he could stop you, the shirt was up and over your chest and it was off of your head. Thank god that you'd remembered the black top beneath, or else you'd feel really bad that you couldn't give him the sweater—it wasn't like you could walk around in just a bra (as much as you'd like to sometimes.)
He grabbed the article of clothing from you, hesitant. "You're sure?"
"Yep!"
"Alright," he murmured, cautious, pulling your sweater over his head and pulling it down his torso. Once he'd done so, he looked back to your eyes and inquired you with his own. "So? What do you think?"
Heart beating so loudly it thrummed in your ears, you replied: "You've never looked better," and grinned wider than you ever have before.

Masterlist
The soft glide of fingers over her shoulder rouses her. The fingers glide further over her neck before taking the same path back only to start again. Lightly chapped lips press against her shoulder. “Hey, sweetheart. Time to wake up.” Y/N only hums still on the verge of sleep, ready to let herself be dragged under again. “No, come on, baby.” The deep chuckle vibrates through her body. The hands that had gently run over her, now grip her a little harder and soon she feels herself manhandled onto a broad chest. Instinctively she snuggles into the warm body, head resting on its natural place on the chest, right under the chin. “Hey, no. No more napping. The others are waiting for us.”
“But comfy.” She whines, presses her head and body further onto the warm skin under her. “Nope. Come on. I have two options for you. Either you get up so I can pee and we get to eat lunch or you stay put, I pee on the bed and tickle you as long as it takes for you to pee yourself, too.”
“Bucky…”
“Your choice.” She grumbles a little, nuzzling her nose against the skin under her. “…First one.”
“Alright.” Bucky presses his lips against her forehead before he carefully shoves her off. “See you in a few minutes.” Then he’s gone. Y/N stays still on the mattress, only rolling a little to stare at the ceiling. She’s still a little tired. She came home late, together with Steve after they had to attend a small mission. She actually had to sneak into a building this time. The vents were full of dust and she swears she’s breathed in more of it than air. Missions always kick her ass, though. She’s going so rarely and when she does, she feels sore and tired afterward. How Steve managed to get up around 7 am is beyond her. The moment she hears the toilet flush she closes her eyes. “Baby girl, come on. I’m hungry.”
“Noo…” She whines again but startles the moments Bucky grabs her around the hips to throw her over his shoulders. “Fine, then I’ll carry you up like this.”
“No! Buck, I’m not wearing pants! Buck!” Well fuck. Bucky’s not listening just smirking and slapping her ass before he really starts walking out of their apartment. Getting carried into the common room only clad in panties and a long shirt from Steve is embarrassing. Her hair isn’t made either. Thankfully she only earns herself a strange look, a few smirks here and there. Steve seems to be the only one not looking amused. He has his eyebrows raised; arms crossed. Y/N only hangs like a defeated bag over Bucky’s shoulder hiding her face in her hands. Bucky gently sets her on Steve’s lap and she instantly goes to hide in his chest. “Hey.” He kisses her temple, gathers her in his arms, and presses her closer. While the others quickly go back to what they did Steve holds onto her, whispering softly. “What was that about?”
“Bucky is mean.” She starts pouting. “Didn’t want me to sleep any longer.” Steve snorts a little but his hand runs softly over her back. “You can nap with me later, yeah?” She continues pouting but nods. “How are you feeling? Still sore?”
“I’m fine but tired.”
“I don’t understand why you’re tired after missions. You change all the time. Is it the concentration that a mission brings?” Y/N only shrugs and snuggles closer into Steve, her own arms wrapping around his neck. “I don’t know.” They stay like that for a while. Y/N feels herself almost dosing off as Clint’s loud laugh startles her. “Never?!”
“No. It’s not like we had much money to do so.” Wanda shrugs, looking around. “Have you all done it?” A collective of yeses goes through the group. “Done what?” Y/N yawns and rubs her eyes. “Wanda has never ridden a horse.”
“What? Never?” Y/N looks at Wanda, a little shocked. “No, it’s not that big of a deal. I’m sure Steve and Bucky haven’t either.”
“Actually…” Bucky smiles at Wanda with a slight shrug. “My sister likes horses so I took her once to the zoo and she made me ride one too.” Wanda sighs as Clint pipes up again. “Even Tony has ridden a horse.”
“Oh, come on. He was five years old, that doesn’t count.” Tony only sips on his cup of coffee not even eyeing any of them as he listens to Bruce. Y/N turns to Steve. “Have you ever ridden one?”
“No, used to be allergic. Couldn’t get closer than a few hundred feet.”
“Unbelievable.” She shakes her head and jumps practically off Steve’s lap, her almost naked self forgotten. “Clint! You’re accompanying me! The rest is meeting us in two hours down by the lake!” She points at everyone, even at Bruce and Tony who looks confused, then grabs Clint by his collar and drags him behind her with minimal protests from him. She sees Steve and Bucky laugh, Wanda frown, and Nat smirk at Clint as they leave.
While they drive in town Y/N remembers why she never asks Clint to drive her. He’s like a starving man on his way to the next supermarket. They almost need the full two hours to buy what’s needed and not because Y/N is picky. Jesus, clint has some strong requirements on the stuff. But Y/N supposes he knows what he’s doing since he’s the one that owned horses. Back home She slips into the first room that’s empty and close to the entrance. Clint suggested some breeds to her that would fit with the brought equipment but Y/N is a week woman and concentrates on the one she finds beautiful. It takes a bit more time to change but soon she turned into a beautiful, light brown Norwegian fjord horse. She shakes herself a bit, lets her tail swig, and neighs silently for Clint to come in. He gets her fully ‘dressed’ with the blanket, saddle, halter, and rein before he leads her outside. Some employees look funnily at them, some smile but they both don’t pay them any mind. They stroll on but Clint suddenly stops. Y/N almost runs into him and snorts loudly. “Sorry, sorry. Can I get on?” Y/N nods eagerly. It’s been a long time since she carried someone around. As soon as Clint is on top she starts running around, slowly at first but then after. She feels the wind rush past her, her body pushing itself to the pastes pace possible. “Come on now, Y/N. The others are probably waiting.” She slows down, neighs again, and lets Clint lead her around until they can see the others. Some of them look slightly startled, Wanda even looks a bit scared. Steve and Bucky just look amazed and Tony is oddly hyped. Y/N stops right in front of them, shaking herself a little as Clint gets off. “Hi, Y/N.” Nat steps forward her hand stretched out, waiting for Y/N to butt her head against it. She sniffs at it first but then actually presses her noses against it and lets Nat stroke up and down. Bucky steps up as well, softly gliding his hand over her neck, cooing a little. Steve doesn’t step up to her but to Wanda. She looks pretty hesitant. Steve’s quick to grab one of her hands to squeeze it and whispers to her, probably to calm her down. “So, anyone wants a try?” Clint claps in his hand looking around. Surprisingly or not that surprising, since he looked hyped, Tony steps up and swings himself up into the saddle. He guides her around slowly trying to get a feeling but soon he’s dashing with Y/N over the grass and sand. One after another climb up in the saddle to run a few rounds around with her. Some are faster than others. Bucky denies it but feeds her apples in between her runs. Then it’s Wanda’s turn but she backs off as Y/N comes close, hiding behind Steve. “What’s wrong?” “S-she’s so big.” “Yeah, but it’s only Y/N. There’s no point in being afraid. You know her.” Steve tries to reassure her but Wanda backs off more. Y/N keeps an eye on her seeing her stare. She doesn’t seem quite afraid but neither does she seem comfortable. To not scare her off Y/N shuffles a little backward and walks up to Bucky. He immediately starts scratching her neck, cooing in her ears, and feeds her yet another apple Clint passes him. She stays a moment but soon runs off. Being a horse brings a feeling of freedom that she rarely feels. Somehow, it’s a whole different world and another freedom. It’s not comparable with the one she feels like a bird. It’s just… different. She runs around for a while, jumps here and there before she tires herself out. She tastes a bit from the grass around the compound but the apples were tastier so she trots back, hoping to get another one. She’s not coming far because Clint catches her halter. She snorts and neighs a little annoyed but follows him as he leads her a bit away from the others. She’s just starting to wonder where they are going as they reach a tree. “I’m just parking you here for a sec. Wait for me yeah?” She nods and watches as he tightens her reins on a thick branch. As if she would run away! But he still goes through with it and walks off only to return with Wanda in one hand and a basket in the other. “Clint, no. Please.” “Come on. Just pat her and give her an apple. She’s not as scary as you might think.” “No Plea-” Y/N cut ser off mid-sentence. She’s now close enough so Y/N steps forward and butts her head against her shoulder, gently and without nuzzling or nibbling. She just presses it there and holds it. Wanda tenses instantly, almost backing off but Clint now has a hand on her lower back and holds her still. Wanda’s still tense but with Clint takes one of her hands and slowly raises it and places it on Y/N’s neck. At first, her hand just rests there but then she lightly, barely noticeable, starts scratching and stroking and Y/N has to keep herself in check. She wants to snort in pleasure neigh but she can’t. she doesn’t want to scare Wanda off so she waits. It takes a few minutes until Y/N deems Wanda calm enough so she lifts her head and snorts, nudging Wanda carefully, and triples on the spot, eager for some apples she knows clint hides in the basket. Wanda takes one out and hesitantly reaches forward. “Flatten your hand so she won't accidentally take your fingers off.” Wanda’s hand flattens and Y/N tries to take the apple as gently as she can. It takes a while longer to really convince Wanda to get in the saddle but half an hour later Y/N is strolling around the compound at a leisurely pace with Wanda sitting on her back. That is until she gets an idea for some bonding time. “Where are you going? Y/N?” Wanda panics a little on her back turning back to look at the others. No one really notices what they are doing, except Clint who’s still eyeing them. “C-Clint?! Where’s she going?”“I don’t know. Just let her lead. It’s Y/N, she probably wants to bond with you.” Y/N neighs to confirm it and continues on along the shore deeper into the forest. She walks for a while until they reach a smaller path that she follows and that leads her back to the lake. She stops on the sandy ground and snorts. The view is a bit different; this place is more shadowy. You can see the compound and if you look closely, you can see all the others on the pier. “This is beautiful.” Y/N nods eagerly. She likes this spot. When she sometimes changes into a deer, she hides out here, just looking around. Sometimes she can watch recruits and Nat and Steve train long-distance runs or survival in icy water. It is interesting and she’s always glad she doesn’t have to do it. Wanda leans a bit forward, resting against Y/N’s neck. Her hands start stroking each side of Y/N’s neck while she whispers into one of her ears. “Can we do this again some time? I- I think I like it.” Y/N nods again, happy that she could convince her that riding a horse isn’t that scary. They slowly make their way back and Y/N test the waters by falling into a slightly faster pace. Wanda screeches at first but relaxes soon. Back with the others she dismounts her and pats her neck again before happily skipping over to Clint.
Y/N looks around trying to spot her boys. They both stand on the edge of the pier. Well, Bucky is sitting, his feet dangling in the water, Steve’s standing beside him nursing a drink. Y/N’s not wearing any horseshoes so she is relatively silent and could try sneaking up on them. Taking the chance while it’s still presenting itself, she walks as silently as she can. It helps that the others aren’t far off, laughing and chatting pretty loudly. She’s only a few feet away from her boys, able to hear their soft conversation. “She might as well be, I mean. Look how Clint acts.”
“Yeah, well. After Pietro, he has taken her under his wings. He keeps a close eye on h- Ahh!” That’s the moment Y/N uses. She takes a small jump and buts her head against Steve’s back, forcefully enough to push him off balance. Steve staggers a little before he loses his footing and slips over the edge of the pier right into the water. Bucky barks out a laugh while Y/N neighs loudly. Steve swims back up, sputtering and spitting water out. “You!” He points an accusing finger at her but Y/N only snorts amused, though, she’s stepping up to the edge of the pier she lowers her head so her reins hang low enough for Steve to grab on, which he does. She neighs loudly and lifts her head with as much force as she can and steps back, dragging Steve up on the platform again. Bucky quickly grabs Steve on the loops of his jeans and pulls him up as well. For a moment Steve just lies pouting on the ground before he slowly gets up and tackles Bucky, getting him all wet as well. Bucky screeches at the wetness and tries to fights Steve off but he nuzzles his wet hair just into Bucky’s face. “That’s for laughing!” Then he lets go and glares at Y/N. He approaches her slowly at first. Y/N stakes a step back but then Steve suddenly starts running. Normally Y/N would be faster than he is but she starts a second too late to turn around, so Steve manages to catch her on her neck and fling himself around her until he sits in the saddle, getting her whole neck all wet. She continues running just for the fun and because Steve just realized what he’s doing. “Y-Y/N! Slower! Oh my god, I hate you!” His hands tighten in her mane as she continues running through the grass. No! No slowing down. She enjoys it way too much.

Flower Pedals Hisoka x reader Part 2
Part 1
❤️♣️❤️♣️
As the day went on, Hisoka volunteered as a chaperone to your younger cousins. They wanted to play in the water while Hisoka sat under a coconut tree, sipping on a strawberry margarita. It would be pointless for an intoxicated man to be a chaperone but he is quite immune to heavy alcohol. Somehow, the sun’s beautiful reflection made Hisoka look like the man you slowly fell for. His job as a bodyguard for the most dangerous mafia in the country, his ability to speak French like a flipped switch, and of course his bulging muscles. Seeing him interact well with your cousins made him seem father-like. But why did he have to act so egotistical? Why couldn’t he be like the guys you saw on the Hallmark channel? Is being loved that hard to ask for? Then the hurtful incident earlier that day entered your mind once again. You didn’t want to break up with Hisoka but it was the only choice.
A tear ran down your face, something you hadn’t done in a while. A silent weep is something everyone needs to do once in a while but weeping in front of others can feel humiliating. Suddenly, you hear a knock on your door and someone enters without your permission. You quickly wiped your tears away and turned around quickly expecting it to be Hisoka. Instead, it was your beloved uncle smiling with a DVD in one hand and popcorn in the other but once he got a quick glimpse of your sad face, his smile disappeared. This time he didn’t run to your rescue but rather asked what’s wrong from a distance. He already knew it had to do with Hisoka but he was curious to hear more.
“Is it about your boyfriend?”
“Yes…”
“Did he hurt you?”
“Physically, no. Emotionally, yes. He has flirted with many people and disregards that I am there. He used to be all over me and now he acts as if I do not exist!”
“That’s horrible. But I have to break it to you. Some men like it when their significant others are jealous. It’s thrilling to them. If you dislike that, you should tell him.”
“I have! He will not listen to me!”
Your uncle grunted in anger and shook his head. He placed his index finger and thumb under his chin, thinking hard about something. Tears rolled from your eyes and felt like they could not stop.
“Come with me, darling.”
Following behind your uncle like a 5-year-old, he led the way to his newly renovated basement, and in that basement stood something that mimicked a lab. He removed a large blanket that covered a table full of glass test tubes and pink liquid. You were hopelessly confused as to why your uncle was smiling at his little creation.
“Uncle…what is all this?”
“Can you guess?”
“Sorry. I have no idea what it is.”
“It’s a love potion!”
You gasp and step back rather far from him. You frowned, not believing what your uncle has told you. Love potions were depicted and always fictional; they simply don’t exist. Hell, Cupid DOES NOT exist and yet he claims that he has made a love potion?! You have always known your uncle to be a wacky man but NOT THIS wacky! Not only did he have a small test tube of this love potion but he had at least 100 small bottles of it too!
“Uncle….don’t tell me…”
“Maybe Hisoka can take a shot of this…”
“U/N! No! That’s wrong!”
“Huh?”
“If he doesn’t love me anymore, I’ll break up with him. Plain and simple.”
“But y/n!-“
“No buts!”
Gosh, you sound like your aunt!
“Why do you have that anyway? I could have sworn you and auntie madly in love anyway.”
“We are….” He stopped talking for a brief moment as he made his way to the door. He did not want your aunt to overhear him speak or else she’d have his head.
“We’ve had a few tiffs lately and she is being distant. I was thinking of giving her this potion.”
“You can’t just…give her that! What if she’s allergic to any ingredient you put in there?”
“SHHH! It’s not a drug, ok darling? It’s essentially a cupid’s arrow in liquid form.”
“Oh yeah! And Santa Claus is real, right? Come on Unc. I’m going to sleep now.”
“Y/N wait! Wait!” Your uncle ran up the stairs after you to try and have an actual heart-to-heart conversation with you. In reality, The love potion wasn’t anything that would harm Hisoka or your auntie; it was something that everyone had. This “love potion” has many variants in the market already. It has its own juice, pop, and merchandise line. When people gave testimonies about them falling madly in love with their partners, you thought it was an absolute joke!
The day had reached 11 PM. The sun had set for the day and the bright stars shined brightly against the beach. Chrollo and the others had left hours ago probably forgetting that you and Hisoka had tagged along. As you cleared the dinner table, the love potion sat there, in its small slender glass frame. This had been extracted so it could be digested but still, you didn’t go anywhere near it.
“Don’t leave this unattended. If a person drinks too much, they’ll become a fool for you and as romantic as that sounds, it can be VERY overwhelming.”
As you turned the lights off downstairs, the front door barreled open. Your eyes had been adjusted to light for the last few hours; seeing in the dark was nearly impossible. But one thing is for sure, that infamous bubble gum small dashed towards your nostrils.
Hisoka.
The lights turned on once again and this time, they began to flicker a little. Hisoka’s piercing golden eyes were able to grab a hold of yours instantly. It felt like you were paralyzed with sudden fear and anger. So many emotions raged throughout your body; your brain sending many signals to the various parts of your body. Both of your cousins come running in, arms stuck out like airplanes zooming all through the living room. One flew underneath Hisoka’s legs and the other flew many times around you. Their sudden joy made you smile a little; they were so full of joy and hope…that is until they grow up.
“I like your boyfriend, y/n!”
“Yeah! He’s so fun! He taught me how to play Poker!”
“You what?!”
“Hey! She needs to know in case she needs to make some cash.”
“Ok, you two. Up to bed. Mom and Dad are waiting for you.”
Both of your cousins zoom into their rooms making loud airplane noises.
“I must admit, I see potential in those kids. They made their own marshmallows, mingled amongst people their age, and even reminded me when their bedtime was.”
He looked from the staircase to you. “Thank you for—“ he stopped as he looked at your angry face.
“—Are you still mad about earlier?”
“What do you think, jerk?”
“Would you stop playing hard to get? You haven’t given me a kiss today.” He bent down and puckered his lips, expecting you to respond. Instead, you turn the lights off leaving a kiss-less Hisoka in the dark. Hisoka stood in the middle of the dark living room beyond confused at your actions.
Finally! Alone at last. No one to interrupt your thoughts or sleep, just you in your auntie’s guest room. The bed was extra comfy! It was so fluffy that it almost made you get up and inside Hisoka to sleep with you.
“No. He needs to learn his lesson,” you thought to yourself. Besides, a non-married couple sleeping in the same bed together was NOT going to fly in this house. Before you knew it, your eyes were closed for what felt like 20 minutes but were actually 8 hours. The sun beamed through the curtains acting as your silent alarm clock. Stretching your muscles and yawing felt amazing after a good night’s sleep. Checking your phone was a reflex but feeling an odd source of shadows made you freeze. As you slowly turned around, Hisoka was laying in your bed, with his boxers on, smiling, and gawking at you; something he’d never done. You thought rubbing your eyes twice would make him go away, but he was still there in the flesh. Still angry about yesterday's encounter, you stare at him plainly.
“What in the world are you doing here, Hisoka?”
“To be with you, of course, my dear.” His tone was much softer; it felt as if he was barely moving his tongue. His lips slightly puckered as he spoke. Your boyfriend was always mysterious but it can be said that he was never predictable.
“What are you talking about?”
He scoots closer to you; his bare chest rubbing against your right arm. He places his left arm around your neck pulling you closer. So close that you could feel the heat radiating from his body. He took his index knuckle, placed it under your chin, and lifted.
“Oh, how I missed your face…the sound of your voice…my heart aches for you.”
You blink twice.
Am I dreaming? What is going on here?!
“Hisoka—“
He placed his index finger over your lips; his long nail gently scratches the top part. “Shhh….” Quickly but softly, Hisoka gives you a kiss but not just an ordinary kiss, one that is very breathtaking. His lips were much softer than you remember and a lot moister. He didn’t force anything; he gently moved his lips to make you more comfortable. What felt like a lifetime was truly only 10 seconds and on the 11th, he parted. Gazing into his golden eyes this time made your heart skip a beat. You remained silent, slightly afraid to say a word as he stared into your eyes deeply. This was not his blood-lust look at all but awfully similar. His eyes were half-lidded but they were soft, much softer than you had seen before. Just as you were about to say something, he gently grabs your face and begins to kiss you all around without remorse. This overwhelming amount of affection not only made you bluff but be utterly embarrassed if your aunt and uncle caught you two in this state. It’s more of the family “aww’ ing” than anything else.
“How did Hisoka suddenly do a 360 from last night?”
“Might as well enjoy this while it lasts.”
Hisoka continued to place soft kisses. He began to pepper your lower jaw with them, earning a slightly satisfied grunt from yourself. He then professed his love for you as he kissed you in between phrases. The magician himself was as red as an apple while you were a giggling mess. He moved his lips to another part of your body. His hand kisses felt amazing once more. He moved his way up your arm and to your shoulder.
“You smell terrific, kitten,” he said in a lower huskier voice.
You growl in response; something so embarrassing that you are happy your nosy little cousins did not hear.
“You’re so adorable, kitten. So delicate that I’d be afraid to touch. So beautiful like the colors and aroma omitting from a blossom tree.”
“I love you to the moon and back.”
Before Hisoka said another word, he placed his right hand where the bottom of your head and neck met. He gently caressed it as he pressed his forehead against yours. The soft feeling of his nose moving swiftly against yours felt like ecstasy. Nothing could ruin this moment.
“Hisoka’s a simp!”
Both of you jerked your heads to the door. Through the crack, you could see two curious pairs of eyes, staring into your room. Before Hisoka could leave the bed, you jump over him and march to the door.
“You know, it’s rude to stalk people in their bedrooms.”
“And? It’s rude for you to be staying the night in my beach house and not giving us any money. Hand it over sis.”
You close the door and jump back into bed with your new boyfriend. Hisoka practically had hearts in his eyes. It’s as if he saw no one but you.
Maybe he has changed….
Your uncle’s voice could be heard a distance away and that’s when it hit you.
“Don’t leave this unattended. If a person drinks too much, they’ll become a fool for you and as romantic as that sounds, it can be VERY overwhelming.”
Oh shit! Where is the potion?! No! It was left on the table last night!”
"Really, Unc? I think I can deal with this. After all, he is less insufferable. I’ve always wanted my beau back and I hope he remains this way…falling on his knees before me."
To be continued....

花吐き病 - Part 2 – The Clawing of Branches
- Hajime Iwaizumi x Fem!Reader
- Warnings: Angst, swearing, vomiting,
- Summary: The sakura trees were coming up to bloom, and you could feel the creeping of branches throughout your chest, pulling at your lungs and winding around your heart.
—————
She's just so beautiful, I'd never stand a chance.
The petals stopped after a while. You were left a heaving mess, limbs bent at odd angles as you drooled into the porcelain bowl. Your eyes were glassy, refusing to focus on anything but the soft pink flowers dancing across the water’s surface. Your thoughts were muddled as you pulled yourself up, legs wobbling underneath your weight. This wasn’t normal - you mentally scolded yourself, this wasn’t just abnormal, this was unheard of. As much as you willed it to not be true, the creeping feeling that burned your chest and tore at your lungs told you that this was no dream. You replayed his words in your head over and over, tormenting yourself as you stared into the bathroom mirror. Of course he’d like her, she’s little miss perfect. Your reflection was sickening, red puffy eyes and burst blood vessels trailing up your neck. Death. That was the first word that came to mind as you traced the bruises smeared across your skin. Your gaze dropped to the jacket you’d wrapped around yourself in a desperate attempt for comfort and your chest tightened further. You played with the fraying sleeves, twisting the thread before pulling your eyes back up to the mirror, to your reflection. With shaking fingers, you turned the tap on. Cool water started pouring from the faucet as you cupped your hands beneath the stream. It was refreshing to feel the cold against your burning skin, nice to wash your mouth of the dizzying taste of petals. After a while, your skin had settled, your eyes less noticeably puffy and the tear tracks long gone after washing your face. Glancing at your watch you realised you’d been gone for an hour now, more than enough time for Oikawa to worry about you. You moved towards the door, legs still wobbling slightly.
You slowly pulled back the door to the gym, swapping your shoes over and stepping inside. The silence was deafening in a way, practise halting because you’d finally returned.
“Y/n! Where were you? Iwa-chan-“ Oikawa stopped in his tracks when he caught your eyes.
“Holy shit what happened?” He said as he rushed over to you, allowing the ball he was holding to fall to the floor aimlessly. You shrugged, trying to play it off as if everything were okay. But the second Oikawa caught sight of your bruises his face dropped.
“Who did this?” Iwaizumi was quiet, his voice barely above a whisper but the anger was almost palpable. You shook under his gaze, opting to look at Oikawa instead.
“I think I’m ill. I’ve been being sick.” The boys exchanged a look of disbelief so quickly you almost missed it. Almost.
“Well, you were in the gardens, so maybe you had an allergic reaction to something?” Your eyes widened at this, hoping Iwaizumi missed what Oikawa said, but they were so close to you that was impossible.
“You, you were in the gardens?” You swallowed, but the lump in your throat wouldn’t budge. Your mouth went dry, words failing you again.
“Yeah, she went looking for you.”
“Did-“ Iwaizumi sighed, running a hand through his hair. “- did you find me?”
Tentatively, you moved your gaze from Oikawa to Iwaizumi, eyes meeting his. You couldn’t help the tears that welled in your eyes, threatening to spill as you rushed to wipe them away.
“N-no! I…” You wiped at your eyes with the sleeves of his jacket. “I just felt sick.” His hands wrapped around your wrists, and he brought them away from your face. He was bending over slightly to be eye level with you, his face so close to yours. You could hear the whispers echoing around the gym as he stared at you. Your heart was beating so fast you swore he would be able to hear it in the silent gym. Your face flushed as he moved closer, but Oikawa placed a hand on his shoulder, and he relaxed under the brunette’s touch.
“I’ll take her home, you go ahead and finish practice without me Iwa-chan.” With one final look at you, Iwaizumi relinquished and agreed, letting go of you and stepping backwards, drawing back up to his full height. Your skin was hot where he had held you, your body reacting to his touch.
The walk home was quiet, Oikawa not wanting to push you into talking. His hand was just barely grazing yours, every so often just glancing past as if he was trying to hold you but was too scared. Every time you felt his hand against yours, you nearly grabbed him in pure desperation, just wanting these feelings for Iwaizumi to disappear. But no matter how desperate for the affection you were, how much you craved the feeling of just being loved, you knew now that you could never be his, your heart was Iwa-chan’s, and the flowers blooming in your ribcage were proof of that. You lifted your head to look at the tall brunette beside you, but he was looking off into the distance. You cleared your throat, breaking the tension between the two of you as he snapped his gaze to meet yours.
“You didn’t have to walk me home, so thank you Toru.” He smiled softly, raising a hand to ruffle your hair.
“Yes I did, you look like death. I didn’t trust that you’d make it home alone safely.” A light blush crept up his cheeks as he held your gaze. His smile dropped suddenly, and he stopped walking. You paused a few steps ahead, turning to face him.
“What did Iwa-chan mean?” He was fiddling with his fingers, a nervous habit he hadn’t shown since middle school.
“I don’t know-“
“Y/n. Please tell me.” His voice was strained, and he coughed to try and cover the wobble, but you could tell he was upset about something. He was avoiding your gaze now, eyes glued to the floor by your feet.
“When I went to the garden I…” You could feel the crawling again. Slowly at first, but soon you felt each and every branch push against your chest, curling around your heart and threading through your ribs. You struggled for breath, the petals beginning to fill your lungs again as you panicked.
“She… Aoi confessed, and Iwai…” You stopped, tears spilling from your eyes as you began gasping for breath again. You could taste it, the sickly sweet, almost perfume-like, taste of the petals clawed at your throat. You must have looked terrified because Oikawa had never moved so fast to hold you against his chest, cooing into your hair.
“It’s okay. I promise you it’s all going to be okay.” His voice was equally pained, and soon you felt what must have been his tears fall onto you.
As he held you in his arms whispering softly into your hair, as he cried for you, the flowers stopped moving. You could breathe again. The branches didn’t retreat like in the bathroom, but they loosened. Their vice-like grip lost in favour of a gentle entwining with your bones and muscles. You could feel the wood, heavy and thick, but you could breathe through it all as if the flowers had moved to allow your lungs to expand, and the petals had stopped flowering inside of you. You didn’t understand any of this, but if being held by Oikawa, at this moment right now, meant less pain then you would take it. You allowed yourself to fall into his embrace and cry. Your legs were almost too weak to support you as Oikawa wrapped his arms around you, protecting you from the outside world. He curled his body around yours, pulling you flush against his chest and burying his head into your hair as his own tears fell onto you. You remained like that for a while, allowing yourselves to cry on each other until both of you seemed to be out of tears.
“Thank you, Toru.” It was barely audible, your face buried deep in his shirt.
“You don’t need to thank me. God, I hate seeing you like this.” He replied, pulling away from you and looking into your eyes once more. His face was blotchy, skin red and pained from the tears, and his nose running. You knew you probably looked equally bad, worse even. But at that moment, you needed more, needed to feel something other than pain. So when he leant in, lips so close to yours, for once you didn’t pull away. He smiled down at you, placing a softer kiss against your forehead, and pulling away from you fully. He took your hand in his, pulling you along the street again towards your home.
The house was empty and silent, your father still at work which was usual for him. You had given Toru your keys, allowing him to open the door and invite you in as if he lived there. You smiled softly as he helped you take off your shoes and took your bag off your shoulder, placing it on the floor beside his own. He ushered you into the living room, sitting you down and fishing a blanket out of the storage cupboard for you. He turned the heating up, disappearing into the kitchen. You heard him turn the kettle on, some clinking of mugs and called out to him.
“You don’t have to do this you know…” There was no reply, he just reappeared a few minutes later with two cups of steaming coffee and some snacks tucked under his arm. He placed the cups carefully in front of you on the sofa, lazily threw the snacks on the table, pulled back the blanket around you, and sat beside you. He slung an arm around you carefully, leaning forwards to pass you the mug when you asked so nicely. His smile was back again, his eyes no longer watery and sad. Looking at you always made him smile. The evening passed quickly like this, the two of you just enjoying the other’s company and watching shit television wrapped in his arms. Then it all changed. He sat forwards, pulling his arm from around you and sitting upright.
“Are you okay?”
“Do you like me? Could you ever feel what you feel for Iwaizumi for me?” He stared at you, his gaze cold. Stunned, your mouth just opened and closed, your mind searching for an answer.
“I love you y/n. I can’t just stand here anymore and watch him hurt you. I want the world for you, I’d do anything to make you feel happy again.” You paused. Happy? When hadn’t you felt happy around Iwaizumi?
“I see you every day, pinning over him and falling even harder, but he never even notices. He just ignores you, and you deserve so much better.”
“Oikawa I don’t understand.”
“What is there to understand? I’m telling you that I love you, that I can make you feel loved.” There it was his feelings finally fully out in the open. He wasn’t being coy, trying to joke about it like last time. He was baring his all for you.
“I… I’m not sure.” You moved to stand, wrapping the blanket around yourself.
“I need some time. I think you should go. Please.” He was quiet and still for a moment, before standing.
“Please don’t play with my feelings y/n.” He was calm as he left, slipping on his shoes, and bidding you farewell. You stood in the open doorway watching him leave. But your chest didn’t tighten like it did with Iwaizumi. Your lungs didn’t burn at the thought of never kissing him again. But, somehow, he stopped your pain, made the flowers stop growing. Maybe he was your chance at life, at surviving whatever this was. Maybe he could stem the growth, at least for a little while. Maybe Oikawa could save you from the deadly love you felt for Iwaizumi.

can you please write a fic where remus has a really bad allergic reaction, and sirius freaks out for a while after!!!?!?!?
Hiya! This is pretty short but I hope it’s a little bit like what you’re looking for! Sorry it took a couple of days - I had a few allergic reactions of my own get in the way🤣🤣🤣 Who doesn’t love a bit of irony, am I right? (I’m completely fine though no worries)
I feel like it’s obvious but I’m gonna put a warning anyways - this fic revolves around allergic reactions and there is a bit of description, nothing overly graphic though.
“Sirius,” Remus wheezed, and the other three marauders all looked up at the harsh gasp. Remus sat on the grass next to James, jumper lying beneath the tree somewhere and his shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows in the heat, but the skin of his arms was turning red and blotchy and when Sirius looked up, Remus’ face had already begun to swell. Sirius had kissed those every lips not two minutes ago and Remus had been just fine, but now he was almost unrecognisable.
“Oh fuck,” Peter said as he scrambled away. “What’s wrong with him.”
“He’s having an allergic reaction you twat.” James spat as he jumped to his feet, searching the grass around him. “Fucking shit, I can’t see my wand anywhere.”
“Mine is inside!” Sirius cried as he reached Remus and dug through his boyfriend’s pockets. “Cone on Re, you never go anywhere without your wand, work with me here.” He found nothing but empty fabric and for a long moment, Sirius felt the most horrific pool of dread he had ever felt, like a quaffle of steel had been dropped in his stomach, but finally his fingers closed around a cool length of wood. Sirius could have cried in relief when he pulled out Remus’ wand and cast the spell that would offset the reaction.
“Go fetch Madam Pomfrey right now.” He ordered and he didn’t even watch Peter scuffle off as James came around to Remus’ other side.
Remus’s breathing became less raspy and began to even out, the swelling not going down quite yet, but it had stopped growing at any rate.
“There you go Re, you’re gonna be just fine, yeah? Madam Pomfrey’s on her way and we’ll get you looked after.”
James looked how Sirius felt, all pale and clammy. “I knew he told us that this could happen,” He muttered, so quietly Sirius wasn’t sure if he was even aware that he had spoken aloud. “But I never really thought that it actually would.”
Sirius nodded as he carefully brushed Remus’ hair back from his face. “Me neither. I don’t even know what happened, did you see him eat anything?”
James shook his head as Madam Pomfrey came running out the doors of the castle, Peter leading her. “Not since lunch and that was over an hour ago. I thought he said reactions happen really fast.”
Sirius nodded. “Yeah, they’re supposed to anyway.”
Madam Pomfrey finally arrived, taking a quick moment to assess Remus before carefully levitating him, keeping him unconscious as she floated him through the air next to her.
“Alright boys,” She said as Sirius walked beside her, James a moment or two behind them as he stopped to gather their things. “Tell me what happened.”
“We’re not sure.” Sirius told her, truly baffled, his heart still pounding. Remus’ skin was losing its angry red colour, but it was burned in Sirius’ memory. “He was fine one moment, and then he wasn’t. No one saw him eat anything. I cast the spell on him, but I don't know how strong it was, I had to use Remus’ wand.”
Madam Pomfrey nodded curtly, taking another look at Remus as they walked inside. “He looks well enough right now, I’d say the spell you cast worked quite well.” She stopped Sirius when he tried to follow her to the hospital wing and sent him away saying that she needed to look after Remus now and they could come back to visit after dinner.
Sirius felt himself float through the day in a daze. It wasn’t the fact that Remus was sick was the problem (not that he wasn’t worried, he was), but he was far more concerned that he didn’t know why Remus was so sick. No known causation meant Sirius couldn’t come up with a plan of action. He didn’t really like that feeling.
They collected a few things of Remus’ to bring with them to dinner so that they could go straight from the great hall to the hospital wing. Sirius would have skipped dinner completely if he didn’t know for a fact that Madam Pomfrey would check if he had actually eaten before allowing him to enter the hospital wing.
“He’s gonna be fine Pads.'' Peter reassured as he set one of Remus’ chocolate bars on the table so it wouldn’t melt in his pocket. “He’s used to this, he’ll be back and better than before in no time.”
Sirius nodded and picked at his beef wellington, glancing over at James who was filling Lily in on what had happened. “I know,” He replied, but really it was more of a mumble to himself. “But he shouldn’t have to be used to it.”
For a dude who had been nearly unrecognisable just a mere five hours ago, Remus looked pretty good. For a werewolf-wizard-teenage boy, he looked pretty shite.
“Wow Moony, trying to be pale enough so you can be mistaken for the actual moon?” James teased as he slid into the chair by Remus’ bed. Peter sat on the bed by his feet while Sirius stood, brushing Remus’ curls out of his eyes as he searched Remus’ face for any lingering signs of distress.
“‘M fine pads.” Remus assured him, as he caught Sirius’ hand, but he didn’t pull it away. Instead he held it to his cheek for a minute before kissing Sirius’ knuckles softly and letting their hands fall, fingers still interlocked. “I need a haircut, but other than that I think I’m pretty good.”
“I’m not going to lie,” Peter chimed in as he opened the chocolate bar, passing a square to Remus, then popping a piece in his own mouth. “I thought you were a goner for a second.”
“Oi, don’t be rude.” James defended, even as he rested his feet on the bed as he turned to look at Remus sweetly. “We thought you were nearly a goner.”
Remus just chuckled and rolled his eyes. “Nah, I want my death to be super dramatic. Bee sting is totally not how I want to go.”
“It was a bee sting?” Sirius asked, scanning any visible skin Remus was showing as if he could will a tiny puncture mark into being. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah,” Remus nodded, rolling up his sleeve to show a still-red bump on just above the inside of his elbow. “That was a fun way to discover a new allergy.”
Sirius just shook his head, relief flooding through him. Bees were to be avoided at all costs from here on out. That was something he could do.
“Moony babe, I think you and I have very different ideas of fun.”
“And with that, we’re leaving!” James announced, almost leaping out of the chair and pulling Peter with him.
“Hey!” Sirius yelled after them, “I didn’t mean it like that! Get your head out of the gutter!”
James just waved them off as Peter made kissing faces, soon disappearing through the doors.
“Although,” Remus conceded, pulling Sirius down onto the bed next to him so he could wrap an arm around his shoulder. “In a day or two I definitely wouldn’t be averse to you teaching me how you like to have fun.”
He leaned in and pressed his lips to Sirius’ ear as someone walked down the aisle past his bed. “Mind in the gutter or not.”

pairing: Jack Daniels (Agent Whiskey) x reader
wordcount: 3k
warnings: none, tropes on tropes on tropes, weird descriptions of things
summary: good, old fashioned fan fiction chaos
notes: there’s no getting around it - everything I write with Jack is inevitably influenced and inspired by @scribbledghost s version of him, particularly her neighbor!whiskey. I tried not to, but I still feel I should give credit!
>>
It was the kind of razor your grandfather would have used – more of a knife than anything, because of course it was.
Of course this would be edge that your housemate used to slide along his jaw and chin and cheeks to make that perfect mustache before work in the mornings. He was the type to love old fashioned, traditional, dangerous things - it made sense. After all, that was why you were staying in the guestroom of his ranch home while your apartment was being renovated. Old fashioned courtesy between friends, of course.
Dangerous.
Jack had caught you watching him, impressed in spite of yourself as the sharp blade scraped over his neck, neatly slicing the hairs on his throat, and pushing your heart into yours. It was unnecessarily intense, dramatic, the touch of risk for the sake of vanity. It made you swallow, awed that he wasn’t covered in little cuts, and almost aroused at how casually he used something so akin to a weapon. And that alone made him smirk, cocky, as though he had been waiting for you to notice, hoping to impress you.
A few days later he’d coaxed you to him, settled in a chair with his legs spread wide with confidence as he handed you the tool, smug with confidence – almost a challenge. He had gotten wrecked at work – he actually had, and it was the perfect excuse to draw you close, make you bend to his will. Schoolyard tactics, really, but all of this was, and it was worth it to have your eyes on him alone, face a breath away from his.
It was about trust more than anything. Not that you would ever hurt him, but the power of being over him was heightened by the intimacy as you lathered the cream over his skin.
His deep eyes bore into you, not flickering to the blade as you tried to focus on your task. If he had asked you a different time, another day, you maybe could have refused, but somehow his wanting your steady hand felt heavy with implication.
Ignoring the quickening steps of your heart, your fingers grasped his chin, shaving away the stubble he’d let grow just for this. Each slice of smooth skin revealed left a thick line of froth and hairs on the blade, and you got to breathe as your turned away to wipe it off. You could feel his gaze, still, but you couldn’t bring yourself to meet it. Hovering over him while he was seated, touching his jaw, leaning close, and meeting those brown eyes would have been too much.
Your denial was as a solid as a wall with half sunk into the ground with cement – almost rooted in your fear of rejection.
It was a challenge to ignore the shots of adrenaline that filled you when he’d reach around you to grab something in the fridge, his chest against your back, hand on your hip. Already you had shoved down the butterflies in your stomach when he’d offered you a place to stay, carried your boxes, and called you sweetheart. You had spent far to long ignoring the way he hadn’t brought a single girl home since you’d been there to fold now and admit anything. Because if you did, there was a chance you would lose your friend forever, and that was out of the question.
You kept your eyes down to keep your hands steady.
For his part, Jack’s plan was only half working. He liked your attention, liked the way your breath hitched as you wiped him clean. But you were closer than you had ever been, patting in the aftershave and you wouldn’t look at him, wouldn’t open the door for him to push the tools and towels aside and kiss you. All he wanted was to grab hold of you and pull you into his lap and make you melt against him but there wasn’t a moment.
You’d been friends for a long time, been there for each other countless times and he had yearned for you almost as long. At first, he tried to deny it too, grabbing at random women and hating himself when he imagined they were you as he pulled them into his room.
Then he’d given that up, stopped pretending anyone could replace you, that anyone else occupied his dreams, anyone else could be as good a fit for him, and went after you full speed. It had honestly been innocent to invite you to stay, instinct instilled in him from his childhood. Still, he had begun to see the opportunities for the two of you to enjoy intimate domesticity right away, when he’d cooked you dinner and you’d talked at his table for hours, finally not worried about having to drive home. He ached for that – not ever really having to leave you, and he spent more nights than he’d like to admit thinking of knocking on your door.
Only… you were still in your denial phase. Not sleeping around just pretending it was normal to sink into his arms after a bad day, to let your friend play with your hair until you fell asleep, to watch his lips as you gently helped him shave.
It was too vulnerable, to high of a risk to go after you with the chance that you weren't ready. The last thing he wanted was to scare you away.
-
“What, really?” you said, genuinely surprised. When you’d accepted to stay, he’d promised you there would be no problems, but now you felt guilty.
His mama was coming to town, and would more than likely be staying with him.
“I’ll find somewhere else!”
Jack was already shaking his head at you, like you were missing the joke, but he looked… almost nervous? You couldn’t tell, it wasn’t something you saw on his face often.
“Actually, sweetheart, I was hoping you could do me a favor,” he was asking, but it’s not like you could actually say no you him, when he shot that winning smile your way. It was like not petting a puppy – and you were the opposite of allergic to cowboy secret agents.
“You know Mama Daniels,” he said and you smiled, having spent many a summer helping her in her garden, and being thanked with dinners heavy with butter and love. “She’ll like you here, she’ll be over the damn moon.” And you conceded. It would be more than nice, to spend time with such a wonderful woman, an Jack had invested in a very comfortable couch. For a week you enjoyed a hopeful bliss, that she would help remind you Jack was just your friend.
The sun was shining through the windows, the winding almost singing a quiet, breathy song, and everything was as spotless as you could manage. Well worn quilts were clean, and you had set up a little station for yourself in the living room determined to make it your home for the week.
Then she came with a jacket that matched her slacks and shoes with little buckles and a paisley suitcase full of presents for her son, who she insisted wasn’t really grown. She hugged you and scolded you for being at work instead of coming to pick her up, and finally settled at the kitchen table, her intentions clear. You were to sit and catch up - Jack was already pulling the sweet tea you’d made from the fridge and a reused sewing tin filled with butter cookies appeared out of her purse.
Meekly, you sat, knowing if you didn’t eat the cookies in quantity, she would pout her whole visit. You could feel Jack settle at your side as she talked, warm and solid, a comfort, despite the heat of the day.
The cookies disintegrated on your tongue, melting with a burst of sweet before the bite was gone. They were full of love and maternal affection and things that you hated to spend money on and made all bad thoughts disappear. You were thankful your mouth was full of one when she mentioned, offhandedly, how plum delighted she was when she found out the two of you were finally dating. Abruptly, you remembered just how wrong your previous hope was.
The sweet lady had been hinting for you to marry her son since before he’d mastered his first lasso, and apparently, she was sure that moment was well on its way.
“And living together, no less!” she was beaming with pride, tradition apparently irrelevant as she chatted happily about it.
Turning to the man by your side, you found him choking, trying to breathe through the cookie he’d accidentally inhaled. There was a white ring around his irises as he stared at you, panicking and aptly confused. Sure your face matched his, you jerked your head at his mother, a silent argument ensuing.
Did you do this?
No!
What do we do?
We can’t break her heart!
It went unnoticed. You felt helpless, drinking your tea and trying not to have a small meltdown in front of a very misinformed lady who had brought you cookies.
He was your friend! And sure, you liked the weight of his arm around your shoulders or could get lost in the drawl of his voice but that was normal! It was normal to be so comfortable with him as the beginning, end, and highlight to each of your days.
Sounding weak even to yourself, a crack, solid and formidable, formed in the wall you created to protect yourself and the friendship you had built.
“Ma’am, I’ll be back in a moment,” you whispered, grabbing your phone as you grasped at air, hoping beyond logic that you could pretend it was an important call.
You didn’t exactly run away, but you walked very quickly outside, mourning the loss of your little guestroom, and the privacy it offered.
Jack would never, ever smack his mama but he did want to say some choice words. Nothing could have prepared him for the last two minutes of his life, first the embarrassment of the misunderstanding and then… the fear in your eyes.
He hated it, hated it so much more than he ever thought he could, hated that it was probably his fault it was there. And he hated that it shrouded the longing he had begun to see there, these past few weeks. Long strides carried him after you, hearing his own voice distantly saying words, explaining maybe, as he left the table.
There was a tree, trunk too wide to wrap your arms around, thicket of leaves creating bean-shaped shadow on the ground, by one corner of his home.
You were behind it, almost like a child, letting the bark press lines into your forehead. The dappled lighting did wonders for you – you looked the perfect picture of a storybook wanderer in distress.
Jack slowed, overwhelmed with the desire to encompass you in his arms, slay your dragons, and whisk you away. Now was not the time.
He kept his voice soft, reaching for you in place of his hands, trying hopelessly to find the root of your panic.
You were just as quiet, telling him it was fine, you would pretend, as long as you’d talk tonight, after she went to sleep. His heart was creating dramatic movie scenes where you would float into his room, declaring your love for him, before settling in his arms, but he shook them away, agreeing.
Smile over-bright, you touched his smooth cheek a moment too long, before pushing past him back towards the house.
He allowed the afterglow of his daydream to wash over him only a moment before he jogged go catch up with you.
-
The quilt on Jack’s bed had chickens on it, of all things. It was one of those that had clearly been homemade, years and years ago, taken care of, but worn at the edges with memories and use. One pillow had a dent for his head, the other was squashed into an unrecognizable shape
You didn’t know that it wasn’t like that, before. That his arms had only started searching for something to hold onto since you had been around.
All of his room was new to you – it made you feel strange, realizing that for weeks you’d been in his home but not this part of his space.
The afternoon his mother came, he’d been called into the field. You had never quite seen the look on his face as he reasoning fell on deaf ears – desperation and frustration like ants ruining honey on a picnic. The flannel across his back bunched as his shoulders had filled with tension before he stripped it off to change into his work clothes. Jack kissed his mothers cheek and spewed instructions for the both of you, some apologies spilling out and others kept just behind his eyes as he grasped your hand.
His final command was for your ears alone - that you take his room, and you’d been too panicked to refuse. The last three days, the smell of him and the memorabilia scattered around the space kept you company when his mother went to sleep and you slept in his bed for the first time, alone.
It was surprising how sentimental he was. His hooks had another cowboy hat on them, a little wider, brown, and considerably more worn. There was a stack of printed photos in a little box by his bed – it was open, and some of the photos had oil-worn fingerprints along the edges. You found ones of you, and your heart flipped inside your chest.
You should have realized it was impossible to deny yourself, your feelings, with him surrounding you like this. Each thing you learned, each reminder of him practically reached off of the walls, as if he were there, coaxing your heart into his hands. It felt silly, almost, that you even tried to ignore it - you had missed him the moment his hand left yours. Now you had all the time to process, surrounded by his neatly folded shirts and the line of his favorite boots.
The idealized illusion of your relationship had only lasted half a day of living with his mother. Her warm brown eyes were too much like her son’s – you couldn’t lie to them. It was good though, for her to hold your hand a listen to you talk as the birds gossiped outside the window and steam seeped out of the pie you helped her bake. Miraculously, she wasn’t disappointed with you, commending your honestly, and explaining that if she was patient until now, then she could certainly continue to do so.
The more you talked to her, the more you suspected that she was right, all along. She helped you dig up the walls, her kind determination the shovel you needed for those concrete roots.
You would work and talk and tuck yourself into his chicken-clad blanket at night and finally, finally let yourself think of him, allow yourself to be in love with him. You didn’t know he had started actually living in his room again, when he’d started letting himself love you. That he thought of your smile when he’d found his old quilt. Still, the more you thought, the more you could admit to yourself that maybe, just maybe, he loved you too.
That was how Jack found you - absorbed in your thoughts - the whiskey in his hand as forgotten as the mission and the agent he’d played for the past seventy eight hours and twenty one minutes.
He watched through the half open door, words failing him as you sat up, startled and the way your eyes searched for injuries made him want to eat you alive.
There was nothing that could’ve prepared him for the sight of you in his bed, even though he had told you to be there and three days to daydream about it. It was intensely intoxicating, having someone care for you so intimately.
With his sheets sliding down around your waist, you looked as good as the pie on the counter, as if a single snapshot could encompass everything he wanted home to be.
You were wearing a shirt he’d given you, years ago, and he swallowed, hard.
“Are you up for that talk?” his voice was rough. It would have been nice, to relish in the feeling of you checking him over, attention on him as he unwound, but he couldn’t wait. This moment was three days overdue.
“I told your mom we aren’t dating,” you blurted and he smiled, having guessed as much. Smoothing the blanket, your hand patted the spot next to you, your legs crossing.
In that, Jack knew something had changed since he left you. The flickering fear had fled your eyes, and you seemed settled into your skin more than ever before.
He sat next to you, having played over how this talk would go a million times, and still not finding the right words. Confidence was easier to find when he was flirting, poking at you, but seemed foreign in the din lights of his bedroom. Instead he shifted trying to lean back with his arm along the headboard, hoping he didn’t seem like a teenager trying to buy himself time.
You began to talk, saving him, and all the things you’d processed with his mama tumbled out of you before you were realizing that you were confessing how much he truly meant you. In hindsight, it shouldn’t have been strange how comfortable you felt, but in the moment, you were in awe.
Jack was as handsome as always, if a little roughed up, like he’d worn the same clothes a few days in a row. You wanted to run your fingers over the short, patchy beard he had going, and without a second thought, you did, feeling his cheeks move as he smiled crookedly and leaned into the touch.
There was only a moment of quiet, crickets outside, before he said, “I missed you, too.” And then, “Will you stay, sweetheart?”
When you whispered, “Where else would I go?” he kissed you.
It was late, and there were still words unsaid, questions to be answered, but you both let yourselves get lost, exploring each other. Long moments passed, letting all the pent up yearning overflow like cool water after a long, hot day. Then the next steps came out, whispered between kisses and as he moved over you, shucking the final walls between you, you found yourselves actually dating, and maybe even actually living together.
Old fairy tales and historic romances played in the back of your mind, inserting their logic into your life like had never quite made sense before.
And you wondered if you had time in the morning, and his mama didn’t give you too much grief, if he would let you help him shave, and eat pie for breakfast. Because for the life of you, you couldn’t think of a single reason why not.

✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
All my life, all I’d ever wanted was to be a social butterfly. Their lives seemed so easy. People would naturally flock to them, what with their charisma, their confidence, their natural gift of being conversational.
I envied them for the sole reason that I was nothing like them, not in the slightest.
It wasn’t easy for me to keep a conversation going, even if I was trying my very hardest, which was often the case. I could never seem to commandeer the room in the way that someone extroverted could, and it was especially hard sometimes to feel a part of everyone.
It would be too easy to say I was invisible. Instead, I felt painfully visible, and entirely ignored.
Everyone could see my shyness peeking through, everyone could see how alienated I’d become, everyone could see my despondence, and yet no one bothered to change it.
No one cared.
My excruciating awkwardness had reached an all-time high at Krystall’s birthday party.
Agent Rossi was so keen on inviting me, and I was honored to go since it’d be my first bonding experience with the team outside of work. I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to grow closer to them, otherwise, I’d run the risk of isolating myself even more. As if being brought in as the BAU’s new technical analyst to replace Penelope Garcia wasn’t enough of a reason for them to doubt, despise, and disrespect me, I was the introvert who had a hard time making friends - unlike my predecessor, who’ve I heard could make friends like nobody’s business. I knew I could never fill her shoes, much less fill the glaring void she created when she left, but still, I maintained my bright-eyes in hopes that I’d be enough for them, anyway. I was all too eager to get to know everyone as more than just my coworkers, with one exception.
Dr. Reid maintained an arm’s length distance from me at all times, and at first, I understood. I even empathized with him.
Besides SSA Morgan and SSA Hotchner, the only other person that he’d work the longest with was Penelope, and now she was gone, too, but the longer his rejection of me lasted, the more I was curious what he truly had against me, and the more I was less interested in changing that. Why would I work tirelessly at mending this broken friendship, if he wasn’t willing to meet me halfway?
I was more shocked that he, of all people, would be the most displeased with my arrival. When Agent Rossi replaced Agent Gideon, from what I heard, the transition wasn’t as rocky as mine. Dr. Reid was overjoyed to be working with him and to discuss all his books. When Jordan Todd, and eventually Ashley Seaver, took Agent Jareau’s place momentarily, he was happy to be working with them. When Alex Blake and Kate Callahan came in after Emily Prentiss, he welcomed them with open arms. So what was it about me that was so abhorrent to him?
I never outright asked, mainly because I feared confrontation and I also had no way of knowing if my curiosity would make the situation worse or better. But I should’ve. I should’ve marched right up to him and asked, “What’s your problem?”
Somehow, though, I finally got up the courage to do so tonight.
I watched as the team laughed at one of Rossi’s anecdotes, meanwhile, the inside jokes flew over my head, hindering that bonding experience I was so sure I’d get by coming here. So I stepped inside the house, wandering into a spare room, knowing I wouldn’t be missed.
I thought I’d only be there for a moment to get some “fresh air” even though I’d actually migrated from the outside to the inside, where there’d arguably be less fresh air, but that’d be my excuse if anyone came in. But I was forced to stay longer in the office when it finally happened.
I finally reached my breaking point.
It was building up all night. It started when I first stepped into the house. My confidence faltered almost immediately when I accidentally stepped on Rossi’s Italian leather dress shoe as I went to greet him. He told me not to worry, but of course, I did just the opposite. It was a minor bump in the road, something so minute, but still, it weighed on me thinking about how embarrassing it was that I dirtied something of his that everyone recognized as valuable.
My shame didn’t stop there. As I was talking with Krystall, there were many periods of awkward silence that I couldn’t manage to fill with words, so we each sipped at our wine until one of us would try to pick up the conversation. What’s worse was that we each knew the silence was suffocating, and I could tell we were both thinking of things to say to keep the conversation going, and yet, nothing worth saying came to mind.
And worst of all was when Penelope Garcia finally arrived at the party. Don’t misunderstand me - it wasn’t the worst part of all because she was bad - no, she was lovely. She gave me a welcome present - a Beanie Baby to put on my desk, evocative of her own style of decor, and I loved her for it, which made me hate her all the more.
Rossi’s house livened up when she came. Everyone flocked to greet her, laughter erupted and ricocheted off Rossi’s high ceilings. They were positively elated by her presence, truly happy. Which was the first time I’d ever seen them that way because frankly, they were never that happy with me.
It was a painful reminder that I could never bring what she brought to the team, and I could never be as good as her. And the general consensus I reached, sitting in Rossi’s office all alone with my glass of wine, was the same one I’d known for years now - I’m not enough.
And I will never be enough.
I hadn’t realized I was crying until a tear cascaded down my cheek, dripping right under my nose, forcing me to audibly sniffle it away. Using the sleeve of my cardigan, I desperately tried to wipe away the tears faster than they were spilling out, but it just wasn’t possible. In fact, the coarse fabric of my cardigan rubbing against my cheeks only made them redder, making the fact that I was unwell that much more obvious.
The sound of the doorknob turning sent me into overdrive, automatically engaging me into turning around and facing the wall so that whoever was coming in wouldn’t find me in the state that I was in. I sniffled a great big sniffle and fanned my face to dry it of any moisture that my silent sobs could’ve left.
“Sorry, Rossi, I was just getting some fresh air and I thought I’d check out your book collectio-”
When I turned around, Rossi wasn’t standing there as I’d assumed.
In fact, the person standing there was the last person I thought it’d be.
“Dr. Reid?”
He was lingering in the doorway, studying my face, to which I instantly preventing from continuing on any further by cowering my head and looking away.
“What are you doing here?” My voice had taken a tone of anger that I didn’t anticipate to be there originally.
“Are you okay?”
To my surprise, his question seemed sincere, but I couldn’t truly believe it was.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just allergies from being outside for so long. The pollen and stuff, you know?” I rambled nervously.
“Oh, really? Are you allergic to the grass?” He asked in a joking manner, knowing I was lying but still asking so that he’d have the satisfaction of getting to see me try and work my way out of the situation.
“Yes, I am actually. The most common outdoor allergy triggers are trees, grass, weed pollen, mold spores, dust mites, cockroaches, and cat, dog, and rodent dander. Don’t you know this? After all, you’re the one with the IQ of 187 here, not me.” I tried to joke to lighten up the room’s heaviness, but clearly, it didn’t work.
By this time, I’d already turned back to face the wall, so Reid surely couldn’t see me, but I heard the door click shut behind me, and a wave of anxiety permeated my soul.
“What’s wrong, Y/N?”
I scoffed at his question, almost hitting him back with an “As if you care.” But I decided against it in an effort to preserve what little repose we had left between us.
“Will you please tell me what’s wrong?” He sounded like he was begging - like he was practically willing to go on his hands and knees to get me to answer, but all I could focus on was the feeling of his hot breath ghosting over my neck.
Goosebumps rose on my skins once he put his warm hand on my cold shoulder, which was bare from the absence of my cardigan and where it had slipped down to my elbow.
I flinched at the sensation, causing him to recoil.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have done that.” He quickly apologized, regret filling his eyes. “Um, you look nice by the way. I like the way you did your hair. A-and your dress. It looks nice.”
Not even giving a chance to respond to his compliment, I asked again, “Why are you here?” Pressing him to get the point faster before I had a chance to react at another one of his physical advances.
“I saw you leave the backyard and I thought I should check on you.”
“Well, you’ve checked on me, so you can go back now.” I didnt miss a beat when responding, fooling him into thinking that I didn’t catch his words and their intentions.
“I just want to talk.” He replied, finally answering my question from before.
“Okay. Let’s talk.”
He took a seat on a chaise lounge sofa while I stayed standing by the bookcase in preparation for a quick escape if need be.
“I’m sorry I’ve been pushing you away. That wasn’t fair of me.”
Although I hadn’t expected him to apologize, I wasn’t going to be misled and naively accept his apology with no reservations.
“Why did you do it? And for so long?”
“I was angry. I didn’t want another person in my life that I cared about to walk away, so I thought maybe if I made you feel unwelcome, you wouldn’t want to stay. And she’d come back.”
It hurt to say, but at least I knew he was being honest.
“I accept your apology, but it’s not okay.”
“I know that.”
“Okay, are we good now? We’ve talked, so,” My hand gestured toward the door, suggesting he should leave, but he didn’t comply.
“I’m not leaving.”
“And why not?” The wine glass in my hand nearly shattered at the way my hand wrapped around it since its presence hindered me from being able to actually clench my fists.
“I didn’t come here to apologize, even though I should’ve sooner. But I came here because I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
“Like you care.” I chuckled mirthlessly.
“I do care.”
I gave in, not wanting to fight him any longer, otherwise, I might cry some more from the altercation.
“I’m fine.”
“No, you’re not,” He shook his head. “I know you’re not fine. What’s really wrong, Y/N?”
I looked away immediately from his gaze, trying to hide the sheen that was inevitably coating my eyes from the presence of tears, but he would’ve known I was crying the minute I used the cuff of my cardigan to wipe under my nose again.
“I just . . . I feel so unconnected,” I whispered, the pain of my words stealing my volume. “I don’t fit in. And I’ve never fit in before, but I actually thought this might be my chance.”
“It still is. Just come back outside.”
“You don’t get it!”
“What don’t I get?”
“I just needed to take a moment to compose myself so I wouldn’t ruin the energy of the room. And I’d really like to do that alone, okay?”
“I know you don’t want me to go.”
“What?”
“You’re testing me to see if I’ll stay.”
“No, I’m not.”
“So you’re saying that if I left right now, you wouldn’t regret letting me walk away?”
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“I know you’re lying to me.”
“I’m not lying.”
“Yes, you are. I know what it looks like when you lie. Wanna know how I know?”
I entertained his question out of pure frustration “How?”
“Because I pay attention to you. I see your mannerisms. I notice everything. Do you think I haven’t picked up on how you crack your knuckles when you’re nervous? Or how your stutter goes away when you talk about technology? Or how your fists clench, like how you’re doing right now?”
My eyes flickered to my fist that was wrapped so tightly around the glass, my knuckles were white. Out of shame, I loosened my grip.
“I pay attention because I care. And I’m sorry that I made you ever believe that I didn’t. What you do, and say, and think - it’s important. So no, I’m not leaving. I’m staying right here to give you the attention you deserve.” He sighed with a breath of relief. “I care more about you than whatever’s happening out there.”
And slowly, then all at once, that barrier between us broke down.
“I care about you. We all do. And when you’re ready, we can walk back out there together so that you can see for yourself just how much we care.”
. . . That night, I made nine more friends.
And the day we came back to work, with my Beanie Baby in hand, I rearranged my desk.
A folded up sticky note fell out from between two tables. I picked it up, recognizing the handwriting instantly.
Penelope Garcia.
Even when the laughter always seems to come from the other room and the world seems busy as it carries on without you, may you know this to be true. No matter who or what made you feel invisible, unworthy, unloved, or unseen, in this ever-moving world, there is still a place for you. And you are exactly in the place where you are meant to be.

champagne problems (part i)
a/n: back with another fic inspired by champagne problems by Taylor Swift. went circles with this one but it may possibly have a part 2.
themes: angst, heartbreak, and absolute heartbreak.
pairing: jimmy page x fem!reader
Bustling crowds or silent sleepers
You're not sure which is worse
She wasn't sure what drove her to act like she did tonight. Of course she was very much in love and head over heels. She can never fathom the idea of being with someone for the rest of her life other than him. The champagne she was sipping on earlier this evening left a lingering, bitter taste in her mouth, a pungent regret, and a sour truth.
Her ears are ringing and her chest felt like it was being compressed by a large boulder. Every breath she struggles to inhale seems to burn her throat, her eyes are clouded with tears. An experience she never thought she'd go through again, and this time, no comfort of Jimmy's embrace would calm her down. She then slumped back into a brick wall and slid down into the cold ground.
As her breathing slowed down into a calmer pattern, she realized what she was feeling wasn't even a quarter close to what he must have been feeling at this moment.
Jimmy, her darling Jimmy. That little boy who she met under a sycamore tree beside an old building during lunch hours. He stood up from the other side and dusted his perfectly ironed uniform and came over with his lunchbox in hand. He stopped in front of her and stretched his arm down to show the box into her view.
"Take it. I don't like peanut butter. I'm not allergic, it's just disgusting"
He had said in a clipped voice, but it didn't stop her mouth from morphing into a wide smile which exposed her missing tooth. "Hello, I'm new here. It's nice to meet you and I'm Y/N. How about you, what's your name?"
The stoic little boy ended up sitting beside her and she listened as he endlessly expressed his undying hate for peanut butter and how he pretends he does. His love for music and his dreams to study biological research.
He took her to a lake just a few minutes walk away from his home for the first time that weekend. "It's my safe place. I'd go here whenever I feel like I need an escape", he had said.
In his shoulder, was a bag carrying a large guitar. She watched him meander his bony but elegant fingers across the strings creating a beautiful sound which could almost lull her to sleep but his out-of-tune voice kept her laughter bubbling out. They had stayed seated on a blanket until dusk came around.
Her fingers wipe the lone tear which fell on a picture in her wallet. It was a faded photograph of them during their high school prom. Both older and he, a lot taller. What once was a little girl with a missing front tooth, now a young woman smiling at the lense of the camera. And what once was a shy and mysterious little boy, now shares the same smile and possesses the same glint of adoration in his eyes for the woman in front of him. Flowy and white was the dress she wore and a large suit with a funny-looking tie for his lanky form. She could vividly remember her hands shaking as he took her hand in his after she had asked him to leave early and avoid prom pageant schemes. He whisked her away under the same old sycamore tree and rested their expensively-clothed backs on the moist grass in silence. A few minutes, he sat up straight and with a stuttering voice, he confessed his love right there, reciting a long message in which she interrupted with a longing kiss.
He was there to watch her audition and rejected a few times for the football team until she was finally able to get in. She was amongst the crowd of people to watch him at his gigs and push him to work towards his passion and to create music.
His family loved her and her family adored him. As Emily Bronte said; whatever their souls are made of, his and hers are the same.
So when he had her over to his parent's house for Christmas eve, she knew something was up. Everyone had a giddy smile as they seemed to knowingly stare at either her or Jimmy. And he, especially, appeared to be distracted and uneasy. Never in her years of knowing him had she seen him act like he does as he always was well-put together.
After dinner was served, glasses of champagne were being distributed as family members turned to each other to form in small groups of their own as they all waited for countdown.
"What do you want to get for Christmas?", Jimmy's sister cheekily asked, Y/N being unaware of its doubled meaning. She smiled fondly.
"I'm happy right where I am"
"I'd be damned if you weren't", his sister laughed heartily.
They had chatted and shared half-drunken giggles for a few minutes until his sister broke free from the conversation when someone called her over. It was when the room got unmistakably quiet. She turned around to see Jimmy, standing awkwardly in the middle of the living room. Some eyes were focused on him and others were seeking her reaction.
"You were the first one to listen to my hateful rant about peanut butter sandwiches, the first one to believe in what I can do and urged me to do what I desire. I cannot possibly express in any word the fondness I have felt the moment I have laid my eyes on you and your smile many years ago. An outcast like me, you were. But so unaware of the shine you possess and how you have everyone in every room in the palms of your tiny hands…"
It took her a few seconds to discern what was happening. As words spilled from his shaking lips, her ears weren't so responding anymore. So many thoughts were running all over her brain. He was about to propose marriage. She looked around to see looks of expectancy and hope in every family members and friends' eyes, the nervousness in Jimmy's voice and the distinct elephant in the room.
Jimmy and her were only young adults, her being 18 and him only a year older. Her heart pounded at the thought of being a burden and possibly hold Jimmy back from pursuing his dreams. Add the fact that she had goals of her own and even though the idea of growing old with Jimmy was all she wanted, she knew it was too soon. But her idea to explain her reason was impossible when there were so many people around, all expecting her to give one answer; Yes. The pressure was building up from her very core which pushed moist in her eyes and her knuckles to turn white from balling them into fists. Never in her lifetime did she think hurting Jimmy was the only resort to protect him.
"...I am irrevocably in love with every fibre of your being and I want to spend my last, withering days with you, Y/N. Will you marry me?"
There was an impenetrable silence fogging the room. Her heart was pummeling against her ribcage as her breaths came in short puffs. Her mouth opened and closed again as she searched Jimmy's eyes for signs of hoax. His were desperately seeking hers for answers as his fingers gripped the emerald ring from where he was kneeling down on one knee.
"Jimmy… I", her voice croaked out dryly and swallowed. She locked her eyes on his green irises, ones she adored so much. Her lower lip trembled as she searched his face one more time. She was so desperate to say yes, but she knew she would regret it and would only end up hurting him more. Her hands reached down to cup his cheek, smiled sadly and in a small voice, she uttered, "I'm sorry, I can't".
Then she ran outside, leaving Jimmy, her Jimmy, to watch her leave and wallow in tears.
One for the money, two for the show
I never was ready, so I watch you go
Sometimes you just don't know the answer
'Til someone's on their knees and asks you
fogs on windshield glass (part ii)

Day 12
PREVIOUS
The days after finding water we're pretty chill, minus finding out that Jeanette's body was gone. There was still some obvious tension between you and Toni and Toni and Martha and Shelby. You hadn't really interacted with either Toni or Shelby in the past few days either, opting to hang around Fatin. You hadn't talked to Toni because you didn't know what to say after the argument the two of you had and you had revealed your feelings for her in front of everyone. Shelby on the other head, had seemed to be the one ignoring you... Well maybe not ignoring she was just very short with you which was totally against her personality. You all had also made a schedule, seeing as you were going to be here for a while. Everyone got one chore a day and every once and a while a day off. Today happened to be your day off and you were glad, your chest pains had been happening more often and that concerned you.
It also concerned you that you didn't know when you would be rescued. The hospital, who was against the retreat but couldn't exactly do anything about it, had given you medication to help with your problem. It was enough pills for three weeks, just in case, but they had been lost like the rest of your stuff. You had checked the pilot bag that held all the medical stuff you guys had but it didn't have what you were looking for either. You've managed to hide coughing up blood by coughing into the elbow of you red shirt or spitting it out while in the woods. You had also been losing your appetite, which has been harder to hide. You'd force down some food and pretend like it was a lot so the other wouldn't worry. But today, luckily, you were starving and prepared to fully eat whatever Rachel brought for food.
---
"Let's feast!" You hear a Rachel suddenly yell as she stand on top of a little hill, carrying what looks to be a big amount of food. You stood up and attached your leg before joining everyone around the fire. You watch, mouth watering, as Dot cooks all the mussels over the fire. When they're done cooking, the mussels are laid out in a big pile in the middle. Everyone stared at the pile wondering who will go first, since they all understood how little food they had been finding the past couple days. "Eat as much as you want guys, there was enough of them to fill 3 more bags. I just ran out of room." At Rachel's words you all dive in and eat the mussels, except for Shelby. "Why aren't you eating any?" Leah asks as she looks suspiciously at Shelby. Not this again. You think as you eat your tenth mussel, what could you say you were hungry.
"I'm actually allergic to shellfish. Ate one at a birthday party and my throat swelled up like a balloon." Shelby responded as she watched everyone else eat. "That's rough." You say as you grab 3 more mussels. "Damn y/n. Is it good?" Fatin asks jokingly as she grabs another mussels for herself. You roll your eyes and let out a chuckle as you flip her off before grabbing more food. "You know what this looks like..." Toni says, grabbing everyone's attention with a smirk. You mentally facepalm because you know exactly where this is going. "A pussy!" Nora yells out causing everyone to laugh, the girl had definitely come out of her shell more the past few days. Toni nods her head before licking the mussels shell provocatively. "I bet y/n knows what that feels like!" Dot yells out causing everyone to make an "ooo" sound like kids when their peer got in trouble. You and Toni's face both heated up at Dots words and you made sure to give her a hardy punch in the shoulder.
"Can you all stop!?" Shelby suddenly yells out causing everyone to freeze and look at her questioningly. "Shelby, chill out we are just having some fun." Dot says, not really understanding what all the fuss was about. "I am chill, I just don't find that very amusing." Shelby responded, her voice getting a little harsher when she says the word that. "What do you mean by that?" Toni asks as she send you a quick look and you almost immediately understood where this was going. The look was one you or Toni would give the other when known homophobes where in the area or if the two knew you were being judge for doing pda. Was this why Shelley had been short with you the past few days? You did not like where this was going and neither did Toni. "Just... pornographic gestures. I'm from a very Christian home and no one ever does things like that."
You wanted to believe Shelby, you really did, but it explained why you always felt this weird vibe from her. "Don't lie Shelby, I always knew I felt some sort of vibe from you, it's clear now what it was. Toni and I have felt that vibe enough times to know what you really mean." You say, glaring at Shelby. "What... What are you guys trying to say?" Martha asks getting worried now. She knew what you meant when you said vibe, you and Toni had both told her about it. "She's a fucking homophobe." Toni spits out glaring at Shelby. You nod you head in agreement, putting back the mussels you had picked up before all this started. Martha's eyes go wide and she sends a Shelby a pleasing look, hoping she'll deny what Toni had just said.
"Look..." Shelby says as she lets out a big sigh. "I have no hate in my heart for y'all. It was just that I was taught that that way of life is a sin." Toni immediately jumps up and point her finger angrily at Shelby, "Why you little..." Toni was too mad to even finish her sentence. Martha had dropped her head in disappointment and let Fatin wrap and arm around her in comfort. The rest of the girls were just watching as everything unfolded. "I feel sorry—" Shelby starts to say, digging her into an even deep hole. "Fuck you." Toni interrupts her before storming off, you nod your head repeatedly in agreement, not looking at anyone as you finish putting your leg on and following after Toni.
---
"Toni. Toni. Toni!" You yell as you follow the girl. "Goddamn leg... Goddamn sand..." You mumble as you follow Toni down the beach. Luckily, she does finally stop after she deemed that she was far away enough to breathe. Toni kicks the sand angrily, as she stares out into the water. "I can't fucking believe this, no I can I just hoped..." Toni trails off as she wraps her arm around herself. You walk up to her and wrap your arms around her in a comforting hug, "I know, I know..." "We just get so much shit at home..." Toni trails off as she lets herself relax into your hug. "I know." You say again because that's all you can say. You relax for a few minutes before you get hit with a sudden nausea.
"Oh fuck." You mumble out as you unwrap from around Toni and throw up near the two of you. "Y/n?" Toni reacts in shock as she watches you kneel over as you try and spit out the taste of vomit and blood. Toni ends up turning around to throw up as well. "I didn't know you were a sympathetic puker..." You try and joke as you take deep breathes and slowly lay in the sand, feelin exhausted from throwing up. Toni wiped her mouth before turning back around, "C'mon, we can't stay here the heat wont help at all." Toni says as she pulls you to your feet, trying to ignore how she slowly started feeling worse. Toni has to practically drag your body back towards camp. "Help!" She yelled out as soon as she saw people and Fatin came running over. She took your other arm and most of the weight so Toni could relax some.
Luckily, the other girls seemed to be doing better than you and Toni. Both you and Toni were splayed out on the ground with Martha sitting near by as the other girls moved around the camp doing whatever. "Come on, lay on your side y/n." Martha mumbles worriedly as she listens to your labored breathing. Toni was at least a little more responsive and had tried to swallow water, while you didn't even react to someone moving your body. "Fuck, she's getting worse..." Dot said as she walked up to check on the three of you. "Where the hell is Leah with that medicine!?" Fatin almost yelled as she looked between you and Toni. Right as she said that, Leah broke through the tree line and ran towards Dot. "Why are they all dirty?" Dot yells out as she roots through the bag. "Only 2? I thought we had 3, I know we had 3!" Dot pulls out two tablets of halophen. "It's obvious who needs them the most." Shelby stated as she sat a little ways away from the group unfold. Dot bites her lip and looks at Martha, "Martha, you good?" "Yeah, I'll take a Pepto."
Dot nods her head and turns towards Fatin and hands her one of the tablets, "Figure out a way for her to take it." Fatin nods her head as she looks down at you. "Toni, I'm going to need you to take this." Shelby said as she took the other halophen tab from Dot. "I'm not taking shit from you." Toni says as angrily as she can. "It'll save your life Toni. Take the damn pill." "Should Shelby really be the one doing this." Rachel questions. "Am I not allowed to help her!?" Shelby says exasperatedly. She climbed on top of Toni and held her nose closed until she opened her mouth. As soon as she did, she stuff the pill in her mouth and covered it, forcing her to swallow. Shelby got off of Toni and turned her attention to you, ignoring how the other girls were looking at her.
"Have you gotten her to take it yet?" Fatin shakes her head no, "She's barely reacting to anything. I'm surprised she's still conscious." The girls sat silent for moment contemplating what to do. They start to panic when you cough up more blood. "Here, give it to me." Dot says as she snatches the tab and a nearby rock. She starts to crush the tab up as much as possible. "Just pour some in front of her nose and breath deep." The other girls don't really question Dot's idea and just follow what she says. "C'mon y/n, just one big breath and then you'll start to feel better."
---
You were leaning heavily against Toni as you and all the girls sat around the fire. You were still exhausted from today's earlier event. Luckily, they associated you coughing up blood to throwing up to much and you didn't have the heart to tell them otherwise. No one knew about what was wrong with you except for the people at the hospital and yourself. You were finally clear to sleep by Dot because she wanted to make sure the meds had actually worked and that you wouldn't fall asleep just to never wake up again. You were almost asleep when Toni suddenly stands up yelling Martha's name and running over to her. You shake yourself awake and shakily stand up to see what was happening. Your heart stopped when you noticed that Martha had fallen and made no attempts at getting back up.
"Toni you were dying!" "Who cares? I don't matter! fuck, I don't matter. I don't fucking matter."

Hello! I have finally finished the first chapter of my first Jori fanfic. I’m still trying to get a feel for the character interactions but I think I’m starting to get the hang of it! I’m gonna start posting to ao3 once i get that account set up (and figure out a title lol) but I might as well post the first chapter here! Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy!
Jade knew her girlfriend was hiding something.
Tori was not a hard person to read. Hell, the girl practically wore her heart on her sleeve. It was so easy to guess what she was feeling at all times that Tori had all but given up trying to conceal her emotions.
So, when Jade noticed that Tori was a bit more high-strung and stressed than usual, it wasn’t hard for her to conclude that there was something on her mind.
It also helped that Tori was an awful liar.
“What’s up with you?” Jade asked casually during lunch one afternoon.
“Nothing!” the singer squeaked suspiciously. She cleared her throat and attempted to regain composure. “Nothing is up. Everything is great!”
Jade frowned slightly, not at all convinced, but decided just to drop it for the time being as the rest of their friend group arrived at the table.
The rest of the day was uneventful. Sikowitz made them all tapdance while performing a scene to “demonstrate how important it is to stay in character no matter what the character may be doing” or whatever and then spent the rest of the class monologuing about how a squirrel got trapped in his bathroom.
Jade sighed a breath of relief as the final bell rang and cut Sikowitz off just as he was about to go into detail about the standoff he had with the rodent. The only one seemingly more anxious to get out of the classroom than Jade was her girlfriend, who was out the door before the bell even finished ringing. Their friends glanced at each other in confusion.
“Maybe she really hates squirrels?” Robbie suggested. The others considered it for a moment before shrugging and forgetting about it a second later, exiting the classroom.
Jade strode over to Tori, who was frantically throwing books into her backpack from her locker. Jade leaned back against the locker next to Tori’s while folding her arms across her chest.
“You’re in a hurry,” the goth commented while watching the girl struggle to cram a science textbook into her bag.
“Jade!” Tori jumped slightly, seemingly startled by Jade’s presence.
“That’s me,” she responded dryly. “Did you forget about our date after school today?”
The singer’s eyes widened in realization and her hand flew to her forehead as she let out a groan
“Jade, oh my god, I am so sorry! I completely forgot!” she confessed, clearly feeling guilty she had forgotten they’d planned to have sushi after school ended.
“It’s alright,” Jade replied coolly, quirking the corner of her mouth up slightly to convey to Tori she wasn’t upset with her. “What’s got you in such a rush anyway?”
Tori paused for a moment, staring down at her converse.
“Oh, umm… I promised my mom I would help her with… something,” she mumbled.
“Something…?” Jade probed, hoping to get a little more context on what had her girlfriend so worked up. Tori, however, would not offer her any.
“It’s not important. I swear I’ll make it up to you,” Tori slung her bag over her shoulder before stepping towards Jade and planting a short but sweet kiss to her lips. She then turned and began walking towards the exit.
“You better! I can’t have people think I got stood up!” Jade called out after her, earning a hearty laugh from her girlfriend as she left the building.
The goth rolled her eyes, amused by Tori’s refusal to admit what it was she was helping her mother with. It must be super embarrassing or something.
Jade was halfway through entering her locker combination when she remembered something that gave her pause.
Tori’s parents were out of town for the week. Trina had a showcase and they needed an excuse not to show up. Why would she need to help her mom with something if-?
Jade’s phone lit up with a message from Tori directed towards the group chat, asking if anyone could lend her $100 bucks. The goth furrowed her brows. Tori rarely asked for money, and never more than $10 dollars at a time.
Tori Vega, what the hell are you up to?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All Jade could think about for the rest of the day was how strange her girlfriend was acting. She wasn’t responding to her text messages and apparently none of their friends had heard from her either. It wasn’t like Tori at all, and Jade’s curiosity was slowly turning into concern.
She knew it was silly to be worried. Tori was a big girl, after all. Still, why would she need $100 bucks on such short notice? And what was with her skittish and secretive attitude?
Maybe she was in trouble with someone. Maybe she needed to pay them money in order to keep them at bay.
The thought was so absurd that Jade almost burst out laughing as soon as it entered her mind. This is Tori she was talking about. Miss “I have never stayed out past curfew” Vega. Not exactly the type to get tangled up in criminal activity.
Still, Jade couldn’t help but feel uneasy about Tori’s radio silence. It wouldn’t hurt to pay her a visit, right?
15 minutes later she was climbing through her girlfriend’s bedroom window, which Tori for some reason always kept unlocked. Tori wasn’t there, but her backpack was on her bed and her phone was on her desk. Jade let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding as she sank down onto the bed. Not 10 seconds later she heard the sound of footsteps and the bedroom door creaked open. In walked Tori who jumped five feet in the air and shrieked upon seeing someone in her room.
“Jade?” Tori yelped. “What are you doing here?”
“You weren’t answering my texts,” the goth deadpanned.
“So you broke into my house?”
“I didn’t break in. Your window was unlocked,”
“That’s still breaking in!”
“Is it really, though?”
“Yes!”
Jade was about to argue further when she noticed Tori was holding a grocery bag, and its contents looked quite heavy based on how far the bottom was sagging.
“Whatcha got there?” She asked, gesturing towards the bag. Tori glanced at it quickly before fixing her gaze back on Jade.
“Just some stuff for a science project,” she stated, trying to sound nonchalant.
“Tori,” Jade huffed. “We are in the same science class. We’re lab partners. We don’t have a science project.”
Tori stammered helplessly, trying and failing to come up with some explanation for what was in the bag. Jade groaned in annoyance, fed up with whatever game her girlfriend was playing.
“I don’t understand why you won’t just tell me what’s going on! You know it doesn’t matter what it is since my opinion of you can’t get any low-” Jade was interrupted by a strange noise coming from somewhere in the room. She immediately turned to locate the source of the sound.
Tori could only watch helplessly as the goth scoured every inch of her room before finally tearing open the doors to her closet. A tiny fuzzy creature emerged from the darkness. And then another. And then another. They kept emerging from the closet until there were seven tiny kittens of various colors and patterns wandering around the room.
Jade slowly looked back up at her girlfriend, confusion written all over her face.
“How-how did those get in there?” Tori stammered, trying her very best to feign ignorance as all the kittens ran towards her meowing hungrily.
Unfortunately her “very best” still wasn’t very good.
“Tori, why were there cats in your closet?” Jade asked, still absolutely bewildered by the scene that was unfolding.
The singer realized there was no way she could talk her way out of this one, and just gave her girlfriend a guilty look before opening her mouth.
“Remember last week when there was that sudden downpour in downtown Los Angeles?” Jade nodded. “Well, I was walking home from Nozu’s when I heard strange noises coming from an alleyway. I went to check to see what it was and-”
“Wait, you heard strange noises coming from an alleyway in downtown Los Angeles at night and you went to go check it out?” Jade asked incredulously. Jesus, Jade doesn’t know how her girlfriend has managed to survive for this long considering her self-preservation instincts were non-existent. Tori just rolled her eyes in response.”
“As I was saying, I went to go check out what the strange noises were and… well,” she turned to look at the kittens scampering around her bedroom.
Jade brought her hand up to her face to pinch the bridge of her nose.
“So let me get this straight, you wandered into a back alley while it was raining and found kittens and decided the best thing to do would be to take them home?” Jade was still bewildered by her girlfriend.
“Well when you put it that way it sounds like a stupid idea,” Tori blushed while avoiding eye contact. Jade sighed but took a step closer to her.
“I mean, I always assumed you would be one of those lesbians who would have like ten cats but I thought that would start after you moved out of your parents’ house,” she smirked.
“Hey!” Tori let out a mock-offended gasp while swatting Jade’s arm playfully. “I mean, I probably will have to move out once they come home and discover I’ve been hiding kittens in my room despite my father being deathly allergic to them.”
Why was Jade attracted to such a moron?
“Can’t you just give them to a shelter or something?” she asked gently. Tori shook her head softly.
“I thought about it but the pounds are apparently really full this time of year so there’s a significant possibility that they'll get…” Tori paused, unable to even finish the thought. “It’s just… they’ve been through so much in the short few weeks they’ve been alive and I can’t just abandon them now!”
Stupid Tori and her stupid heart of gold. The goth groaned and tilted her head back.
“Ugh, fine. I’ll help you with you’re dumb kitten problem,” Jade’s heart fluttered a little as she watched Tori’s face lit up like a christmas tree.
“Really?” She gleamed. “How?”
“Well, I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who would be interested in adopting tiny kittens. Especially if you go into detail about their tragic backstory and stuff. People are suckers for that kind of stuff,” Jade stated. “You could like, advertise them on The Slap and try to get them adopted before your parents come back.”
Tori chewed at her bottom lip, contemplating Jade’s suggestion.
“That’s… not a bad idea. People advertise things on The Slap all the time,” she hesitated for a moment and her face fell. “Ugh, wait. Trina follows me. If she finds out I’m hiding kittens in my closet she’ll rat me out for sure.”
Jade closed her eyes and sighed deeply. God, she can’t believe she was about to say this.
“I guess… I could… post about the kittens on my page, or whatever,” she grimaced. Tori’s grin got so wide Jade was concerned her face was about to split in half.
“You would do that for me?” she exclaimed. “But, your reputatio-”
“My reputation died as soon as I changed my status to ‘in a relationship with Tori Vega’,” Jade snorted. “Kittens would be nowhere near as embarrassing as you.”
Tori was beaming at her girlfriend despite the insult, chuckling lightly as she wrapped her arms around Jade’s neck and peppering her face with soft kisses before finally connecting their lips. The goth let out a content sigh in the back of her throat and attempted to deepen the kiss while pushing Tori backwards to the bed. However, Tori hummed and broke the kiss leaving Jade more than a little confused.
“Sorry, I-” the singer stammered. “I would feel weird making out in front of…”
Jade quirked her eyebrows up in amusement.
“In front of… the cats?” she asked, barely suppressing a laugh. Tori nodded, cheeks red with embarrassment. Jade just chuckled and rested her forehead against her girlfriend’s.
“Jesus Christ, Tori.”
