So I'm genuinely wondering - he's under your label, he's insanely popular in your favoured market - why are you treating him like this? It's too much to not be deliberate. So why? It's not popularity - RM and Hobi are way less popular than Jimin and they got treated better. So what's the deal? I just don't understand
im going to say it and there's a conversation to have that pjms just don't want to have.
simple answer is because they care about their solo work and put importance to it way more than jimin does.
and no I don't mean jimin doesn't work hard or half asses I mean it the ambitious way where rapline genuinley want to be successful as a soloist where for jimin this is all just temporary to go back to BTS đ€·ââïž
This isnât a new convo, so you not shaking anything with this cause Iâve seen other people also bring this up as well
BH is supposed to support the members careers and give the adequate resources to be successful in their endeavors regardless of anything else, period. Idk how you people have started to believe that company support equals how bad you wanna be a soloist outside of BTS. Be fucking for real. And If rapline was that much more concerned about being âambitious soloistsâ than being in BTS they wouldâve left already to pursue that, but just like Jimin their priority is also BTS so theyâre still in the fucking group. Thatâs why that reunion exists. Rapline simply just had a head start and more opportunities to do solo work that Jimin and the rest of vocal line were not afforded before now. And then you have TH and Jin for example. Neither which have said or alluded to having any big soloist aspirations in music outside BTS. Even TH said that he works better in the group and singing on a song on his own is hard after putting out Layover, but both have still gotten far better promotion than Jimin ever has with his two albums.
All these excuses yâall continue to give on account of why HYBE has been treating him like shit when heâs simply not who Bang PDs has in his plans to be big. They throw rapline their lil bones whenever they have their comebacks and they donât have to monitor any of them if they go beyond a certain pre approved metric, because they never do. So again no it has nothing to do with them taking their solo careers more seriously.
But why does Jiminâs love for the group have to be used against him to say heâs not serious about having a solo career in the first place? Why does a member have to supposedly be entirely self concerned and willing to put the group on the back burner to be seen as ambitious? Why canât Jimin exist as a member of BTS while also still putting in the obvious work he has been doing in solo era if thatâs what heâs choosing to do at the moment and not have his work be delegitimized just cause yâall continue to put rapline on some imaginary ass pedestal?

Honestly, tae has always been a distant third when it comes to streams. Most of his fans are the definition of visual stans and he is the main person that kpoppies token stan and they don't stream for their actual favs. His most recent ost debuted with 1.7 million streams, so they doubled that for his solo debut.
Jungkook and taehyung are mostly token stanned by other kpop stans. But here's the thing, those kpop stans might watch their fancams or whatever but i dont think they go out of their way to stream or buy for tae and jk's music. Those people usually don't care about the music.
We all know why jk is doing good on charts. I'm not gonna talk about it again and again.
But well.... Taehyung didn't get the things that company gave jk. And the promotion mhj might be going with for tae is not working either. Not yet at least. So tae only has his stans left. Those who token stan him don't support his music. And the funny thing is that his own fans mostly stan him for visuals and don't really care about his music. I even saw a tweet from one of his stan talking about how they should do a project on weverse to tell taehyung to go for promotions that will make him do better on charts.
Like as if tae doesn't know what he's doing. He's not a rookie. His two songs till now are just not good. That's it. I think it's not most people's taste. And seeing that tweet just showed that his fans don't care about music and are just obsessed with charts because otherwise how will they prove that tae is the most popular?
So i think it's better to have a strong, dedicated fanbase who actually cares about your music, works hard with streaming and buying, and cares about the artist's artistry. Like pjms. I know pjms have some rotten eggs too but almost all of them genuinely love jimin and not the y/n type, they care about jimin's music and respect his artistry. I'm glad that pjms are growing more and more. Jimin needs a strong and established fanbase.
Also I saw some anons in other pjm blogs talking about how they feel bad for tae and I was like "dude why?" Why are they feeling bad. First of all it's their fault that the promotion that they were going for is not working for tae like how it works for newjeans. And seriously I can't bring myself to pity him when we have seen the way Face got treated, it was jimin who actually got sabotaged and it's worse because jimin's music was actually good.
Taehyung is not being sabotaged at all, it's just that his two songs till now are boring af. Nobody is talking about it because there's literally nothing to talk about. The mv is not some art masterpiece. The lyrics are basic, the song sounds underwhelming. So people are just not talking about it. Both songs didn't create any hype for his upcoming album.
And I'm sorry but tae stans were the ones who are always actively hating on jimin, they didn't feel bad when jimin got sabotaged (yeah actual sabotage) so i can't bring myself to give two fucks about tae nor do i feel bad for him. I don't. There's nothing to feel bad about. He's not been done wrong, he's not sabotaged, why should I feel bad? I've never cared about tae and I'm not gonna do it now. Some pjms are too soft hearted I swear to God.

https://x.com/fjimindata/status/1724548947698688502?s=46 see now im REALLY pissed off
first of all, it makes sense that they wouldnât get certifications for the much older songs that theyâre not interested in promoting, i get that part. but when you have it all laid out like this its just obvious that thereâs no excuse and they didnât have any interest in acknowledging him.
the 7 certification came just in time to push his album release and the grammy push and yet, that flopped.
jimin is the ONLY member to have literally every main solo song (Lie, Serendipity, Filter, and now Like Crazy) to qualify. Itâs established that he sells in the US and each of his songs is great in both quality and overall appeal. so why not make more of an investment in him.
thereâs at least three possible scenarios i can think of:
1- this is all part of the plan
sometimes, the cynic in me wonders if they forced him into an underdog role bc thatâs the brand they felt would sell for him. the members themselves have spoken about the concepts they were given pre-debut. i remember jin talking about how he was meant to be a cold serious type of guy but eventually that just didnât work for him and he became the handsome and confident but goofy one. we can assume it was the same way for others.
at first, jimin was the âladykillerâ type with the ab flashing antics and then he became the sweet, kind, charismatic but âself-consciousâ guy most of us became extremely attached to. he already had the âhard-work geniusâ title (đ„Ž) that has been pushed for ages so it would make sense for the underdog-that-thrives-against-all-odds narrative to be the next step.
bc jimin has always performed strongly in the us they knew he wouldnât flop no matter what and fans would feel incentivized by the âmistreatmentâ narrative so they would work even harder for him.
much like with bts, there was always a social-justice-oriented motivator for how hard armys worked since BTS had been treated like shit by racist/xenophobic/homophobic/elitist people in both the domestic and Western industries. meanwhile, the only real competition bts ever had was a group of attractive but averagely talented individuals who got all their material, promotions, and mediaplay handed to them on a silver platter. this only motivated armys that much more to work hard for the ones that actually do the work and âdeserveâ it.
does that sound similar to a certain someone? do you see where iâm going with this?
i could write an entire essay on the parallels i see here but iâll leave it there for now.
2- the company really only cares about jk
another scenario is the worst case scenario pjms have been talking about all year. the company has a one-track mind of who theyâre trying to push and they know the other members will follow even if theyre mistreated by the company bc they simply wonât do that well elsewhere or by themselves.
3- for some reason, they see Jimin as a liability so = not worth investment
something we donât often talk about (because we donât know much about it) is the topic of sponsors. jimin must have some but we donât really have a clue as to who they are. for th (and probably jk) itâs obvious that that paradise hotel group family sponsors him. i donât doubt thatâs one of the reasons why he made such a big deal over those dating rumors. dating the daughter of the people funding your career sounds a tad bit icky if you ask me. now we now it was also bc he was actually dating a friend of the daughterâs (who also appears to be sponsored by them đ¶) but i digress.
***this next part is purely gossip based on my observations and is 0% grounded on any legitimate information. ***
i suspect that jimin had pretty big sponsors circa 2019 while jk didnât and now it is the opposite. when the whole paris clubbing scandal dropped even though the videos were everywhere on stan twt barely any korean media picked up on it. on the other hand, when the jk scandal triad happened (tattoo girl, car accident, and mid-covid itaewon outing) that shit was everywhere and he got dogged on real bad by knetz. itâs possible that jimin just got lucky that it coincided with jkâs scandals and got off scot-free (outside of stan twitter). in contrast, when jimin had the whole insurance payment evasion/stolen mail debacle that got covered extensively in k-circles even if stan twt didnât gaf about it. now we know after face era was jimin was struggling around that time which inspired his songs and then he decided to âget his head straight onâ. since that time period, which was the first half of 2022, heâs almost become ultra conservative with his image. i suspect the company took the blame for the insurance thing even though it was on him and that that was his wake-up call that he wasnât doing well mentally.
if jimin, like the rest of hyung line, doesnât have sponsors that are that influential anymore then maybe more of the brunt of funding his solo debut relied on the company and they decided to be conservative about it in case it was a risk at any point.
Is a very different approach to the situation I've never heard anyone analysing the situation like that it is very different and baby armies and them stupid ass ot7s would eat that one up.
But I think we all agree it's two. I'm trying my best not to post about Hybe because the festive season is here and I don't want nothing and nobody to ruin my spirit.

not gonna miss this chance
Characters: Han Seojun & soloist!female reader
Genre:Â fluff
Setting: true beauty au, set a year after the tv showâs ending timeline
Summary:Â Your career is on the verge of ending, hence your management puts you up to do a duet with the infamous Han Seojun. You have heard too many rumours about him to keep track of and yet, none of them could have prepared you for the feelings that came with meeting him.
Words: 4.1k
Self indulgent little snippet because he deserves happiness too.
You had heard of Han Seojun before meeting him, of course you had. Everybody who was in the industry had heard of the hot trend of a Newstagram star-turned idol and his band's shining debut from a year ago. They were told to have snatched teenage girls hearts all over Korea with their good looks and soulful music. You had heard their title track and you had to admit it was nice but nice wasn't enough in a cut-throat industry like entertainment.
Look at you, starting training at twelve, debuting at fifteen and now barely twenty-one you were on the verge of becoming a thrown away doll. Once you had been called cute and the it girl of your generation and now? People were saying you got boring just because your music had matured. Gosh, you couldn't keep singing about first love like your hit song had been for the rest of your life for god's sake. Your last album had been a flop, your company had been losing money and you were still afraid that even with a year left of your contract, they would cut you. But your manager had begged them for a chance and here it was: a collaboration with the newest love of Korea.
But the thing was, Han Seojun had quite a reputation and you didn't know who to believe. Some said he was well-mannered and hard-working. Others gossiped that he was always flirting with his makeup artists and Chen claimed he had been rude to her even when he had just been a ânobodyâ. Not that you were particularly fond of Chen either but as a fellow solo female singer you were a tad bit worried how the infamous singer would treat you.
Well, standing in front of Move Entertainment, you were just about to find out. Taking a shallow breath you followed your manager's lead, bowing to the receptionist and getting into the elevator after taking your visitor's badge. You had heard the company has gone through many changes after the executives were replaced due to the revealed Seyeon scandal but everything looked expensive, shiny and new, unlike in your small agency.
âHey, Iâm Lim Heekyung, nice to meet you. Seojun will be in a minute, too,â a woman in a pantsuit walked up to you on the right floor with a confident smile as she introduced herself. She led you to a meeting room which was apparently customized for a few people only and started preparing papers. She looked excited which was a relief and nice to see, at least someone from Move Entertainment was happy for this project apparently. You were a bit afraid they would see you like a leech, trying to cling onto their new starâs popularity.
âShall we start? Seojun is a fan of dramatic entrances anyways,â Miss Lim laughed joyfully as if it wasnât new to her that the idol didnât make it on time. Ah yeah, you had heard rumours saying that he had something on the company and that was why they were so lenient with him.
You sat in silence, let your manager do the talk about the collaboration project. Seojun could play the guitar, you could play the piano, apparently it was perfect for a ballad duet, though if you used instruments yourself it added to the preparations time. But luckily, there was a songwriter named Leo at the company who had already sent in a few samples specifically for Seojun, so you didnât have to start from zero.
âAh, I see you started without me. What did I miss?â A tall boy opened the door wide and flipped down onto the chair across you casually. He had grown into his lanky limbs and with those wide shoulders hugged by the leather jacket, helix earrings in one ear and soft brown hair brushed to one side, it wasnât a surprise how many female fans swooned over him. But there were a lot of handsome boys in the business, just his looks â no matter how confident he was in them based on the way he carried himself â wouldnât make a difference.
Miss Lim patiently let Seojun know about the advances and only when she mentioned your name, did the boy glance at you. His dark brown eyes had a sharp form, just as piercing as his gaze, but the cunning smile spreading over his lips softened it a bit. He looked at you as if he wanted to see through you, to figure out how he should have approached you. You expected a snarky or arrogant comment, but in the end, he just flashed a blinding smile at you, one you could see on his posters, before turning back to Miss Lim.
âWhatâs the schedule?â he asked simply and you both were notified about the deadline of deciding and finalizing the song, the dates of planned recording sessions and the photoshoot. Since there would be no promotion period, it all would be done within a month and half from start to finish. You were a bit relieved hearing that and leave Move Entertainment without any confrontation.
You thought you were good at masking your wary feelings since the further meetings went well and the first recording session went okay-ish. Although both of you had been a bit scolded by the producer for not putting enough feelings into your singing. He claimed that the demo sent by Leo was much more emotional which made Seojun scoff and mumble under his nose. The PD called it for a day, making you promise to practice for next time and one by one they all left. Your manager told you that he would bring the car while you refresh yourself in the bathroom, so you really didnât expect anyone to wait for you when you stepped out of the restroom, much less Han Seojun.
"Spit it out," he bit out barely glancing your way as he leaned against the corridorâs wall.
"What?" you spluttered as you were really taken aback by his out of blue appearance and question. The guy let out a tired sigh at your obliviousness and pushed himself away from the wall just to walk up to you, towering over your height with his.
"You look at me as if I killed your hamster or something. Which rumour about me bothers you? I fucking can't keep walking on eggshells around you, especially when it's just the two of us," he tsked and you gulped at the sudden called out. You didnât think it bothered him, or that he was considerate enough to âwalk on eggshells around youâ, you merely thought he was so distant from everybody. It was still better than what Chen had told you.
"Oh, I⊠nothing. It's stupid. Sorry," you mumbled, feeling embarrassed for your your actions but Seojun apparently wasnât satisfied without a real answer as he carried on:
"I didn't bully kids in high school but I threatened ones that deserved it, I didn't only get a pity chance from the entertainment, one of our makeup artists is actually one of my best friends, I'm notâŠ"
"Chen told me you are rude and arrogant and have no respect for girls," you blurted out to stop him from speaking because you felt like you didnât deserve to hear all that. He didnât owe you any explanation for the way he was. You were just co-workers for a project after all, you had no place in his life, nor he had in yours, so he shouldnât have been that bothered by your opinion but you understood that he felt uncomfortable due to your silent accusations.
Hearing your hasty interruption, the singer scoffed, a laugh-like sound leaving his mouth.
"Well, I have no respect for girls like Chen who harass my friends and turn their lives into hell just to go on a date with me," he said and it made you blink slowly.
"Oh."
"Yeah, oh. Check your facts before you go around believing such crap," Seojun stepped back with a roll of his eyes.
The whole situation made you feel made about how you acted, so you wished to apologise but it fell from your lips all too carelessly: "Sorry, I was just worried. This is my last chance, soâ"
"Last chance?" the guy quirked a brow at you, curious but you quickly waved his question away.
"Nevermind, I just need this song to do well."
"Of course, it will. I'm Han Seojun, it will turn to gold under my hands," he grinned and made eccentric gestures as if he was about to do magic. You couldn't help a smile. âOr well, vocal chords.â
And turn it to gold, he did.
The rest of your recording sessions went smoother, even the previously grumpy PD complimented your for the development in your chemistry. Funny, you wouldnât have thought that the wall pulled up between the two of you mattered that much, but at least you didnât have a knot in your stomach, nor did you worry about every small thing you did around Han Seojun. He also acted more casual, more playful, joking around when both of you had a bit of time to take a breather. He snapped silly pictures, showed off with his height, smirked when he got too close but despite all his bravado and lowkey flirting, you believed even he wouldnât have jeopardised his career over something like this.
Maybe that's why wrapping up the recording felt a tad bit weird: you got used to his presence, his jokes, his beautiful, deep voice that you could have fallen asleep to. Sure, sometimes he was cocky, a bit rough around the edges but he was a great singer and a fun guy. The project seemed to work out well and you loved it a lot, so you hoped the listeners would appreciate it as well.
But before all that you had one photo shoot together for the promotional pictures and the single's cover. You were grateful for the simple pastel colour background and elegant setting. The warm light latte colour and the clock in the background really fit the song's vibe. Luckily, your dress was decent and pretty as well, you didn't have to feel uncomfortable in it at least. However, you didnât expect that happy yelp coming from one of the makeup artists stepping into the dressing room. You turned to face the girl, wondering whether she was your fan judged by her excitement.
"Oh my! I'm so happy to finally meet you! Seojun told us about you so much!" she beamed at you which obviously took you back. Well, that you didnât expect at all. He spoke of you to others? Ah. Apparently to the makeup artist who was most probably that certain one of his best friends he had told you about?
"Don't exaggerate, Imju, I mentioned her like what⊠once?" Seojun walked in on cue. He rolled his eyes and cleared his throat, trying to avert the topic. "How's Suho?"
You had know idea who that said guy was but after a moment or two you could breathe properly once again while listening to their chatting.
âJust the usual. Heâs excited about your duet.â
âOf course, he is,â Seojun grinned, a bit snarky but you could hear the proud undertones of it. When he looked at you, you were surprised by him leaning close though as he quieted down until only you could hear it. âDonât worry, Jugyeong is really good and just stop her if she gets too gossip-y.â
âAre you talking about me behind my back, hah, Han Seojun?â The pretty girl called Jugyeong raised her fist as if she was about to hit the idol but he just laughed it off and left you two alone when he was hurried onto the set to start with his individual shoots.
âHave you known each other for a long time?â you couldnât help but wonder as you were seated to get your makeup from her.
âAh, almost 4 years, I think. We went to high school together. Plus, heâs best friends with my boyfriend. Though, they are always bickering like a married couple,â Jugyeong chuckled joyfully as she started with the cushion. You closed your eyes, listening as she kept going on about the time when Seojun had been obsessed with his motorbike, getting into trouble with his mother. It was strange hearing about a whole other side of him, mama's boy but the image tugged on your mouth, making you smile even though you weren't sure you had the right to know all that. You also learned that Seojun's sister was dating Jugyeong's brother and you felt so involved with the girl's trust albeit it was your last meeting, you were sure Seojun must have only told good things about you.
Hence, you felt shy under his knowing gaze when you walked out of the dressing room. He must have known that Jugyeong couldn't shut up for the life of her, so he looked a bit uncertain, too, stretching the back of his neck, forcing a cunning smile onto his smile when you took your place next to him.
To fit the ballad's theme, the setting was a piano decorated with flowers and you were instructed to sit beside him as if you were about to play a four hands piece. As you did what you had been told, you were very much aware of the way your arms brushed, his long fingers over the keys close to yours, his smile small but genuine.
"Great, great, guys! Someone help her onto the piano and Seojun, stand in front of her," the photographer directed the next scene but before any staff members would have rushed up to you, the singer next to you shushed them.
"I can do it," he insisted as he stood up and looked you in the eyes, silently asking for permission. You nodded while holding your breath back before Seojun put his hands on your waist above the fluffy tulle skirt part and counting on three, he lifted you onto the lid of the beautiful instrument.
You crossed your legs, watching in awe as your pink skirt fell down on waves but your breath hitched for an entirely different reason when you looked up, gaze meeting Seojun's feline eyes trained on you. You had never seen him look at you like that, lacking playfulness or suspicion or curiosity. He looked open, vulnerable, outright starstruck. Your lips parted meaning to ask something but your brain shut off when you heard the shutter of the camera go down and the director yelling compliments at you. It made you snap out of it and later, you blamed the evident blush on your cheeks on the makeup. Seojun blinked too, his guarded expression back in no time, finishing the photo shoot professionally, always lingering close to you, but never touching you. Even though you wouldnât have minded.
"Hey," Seojun peeked into your dressing room just as you were about to leave, packing up, with a smile on his mouth and sparkles in his deep brown eyes. But unlike half an hour ago when he wore a fancy suit and looked at you like a prince would have looked at his princess, he acted just as casual as he looked in his denim jacket over dark tee. "Wanna grab something with me if you finished for today?"
His question took you back but first thing first you glanced towards your manager, eyes begging for permission which you had gotten with a sigh.
"Just be discreet and call me if you need me to pick you up," your manager shrugged, leaving you two alone with a knowing look that told you to be careful. You didn't need to be told though, you knew how much depended on the current public response to your image.
"Seems like a green light. Have you thought of anything specific?" you turned back to the boy with a subtle smile.
"Not really but I know a few less frequent, secluded places to avoid much talk about us," he said and you nodded, following his lead. Masks, caps and hoodies on, you barely talk on your way to the tent with the lovely ahjumma who welcomed Seojun (two heads taller than her) with a pinch of his cheeks and told you to get seated.
"Are you a regular here?" you inquire, carefully pulling down your mask since not many people are around.
"You could say that," the boy hummed letting you adjust to the place at your own pace, not pressuring you with extra reassessments about how safe it is there. Yet, he is so casual as if he wasn't afraid of a getting mobbed by Dispatch out of the blue. Not that it happened to you a lot of times but you heard stories and at such a crucial time in your career, you feared something like that more than anything.
"Do you want to come up to mine instead?" Seojun blurted out suddenly which made you wide eyed in a span of a moment as you splattered out a surprised yelp. "Come on, I don't mean anything by it. You just look really nervous being in the public," the singer said, his deep voice softening, soothing by the end and you needed to take a breather before answering. You didn't think it was so obvious but apparently you had never been a good liar with him.
In the end, you decided on going over to Seojun's place, so he asked the ahjumma to pack your food to go and you headed towards his flat a few blocks from the company. It was a small but cozy place, much softer and brighter than you expected, lots of pastels and photos of friends and family. While the boy busied himself in the kitchen, getting you plates, chopsticks and beer, you were encouraged to look around and you couldn't help but smile at his photos with not only his band members but high school friends, too. You had seen photos of his graduation with Jugyeong, then another one of his debut with her and another guy. He was a recurring person on a lot of pictures, so you assumed that he was the so-called Suho.
"He's Jugyeong's boyfriend," Seojun affirmed as he walked up to you which you acknowledged with a hum and smiled at his photos with his sister and mother. The makeup artist was right when she said he was only tough on the outside.
"You knew Seyeon?" you whispered as your gaze shifted of a picture of three boys smiling widely into the camera. The middle one was the talented boy you had known from the news of his committed suicide. Such a tragedy.
"Uhum. We were best friends. Him, Suho and me," Seojun nodded and without having to ask, he told you how they had gotten to know each other, what were their favourite past time activities and how they fell apart when he died. You could see he was hurting even now as he was talking about it, so you grazed your fingers against his knuckles as though to say you were there for him to listen, or whatever he needed.
Talking about his best friends and how a group of guys including someone named Chorong stuck by his side over the years warmed your heart. It was nice to know that not everyone had it as lonely as you who basically missed out on high school and memories from that time to be able to turn your dreams into reality. Your only friends were also in the industry but it made things both easier and harder.
"What about you? What did you mean by this being your last chance?" Seojun asked like a loaded gun but after everything he had just told you, you knew you could trust him with this and being in the industry for a while now, he must have understood, too.
You told him about the rising expectations, about your image and your company's ultimatum. It actually felt nice to talk about with someone other than your manager. Especially since Seojun seemed to understand exactly why you felt conflicted over the matter. You have given your youth to this dream of yours, so giving up on it would have felt like betraying yourself and everyone who believed in you but you weren't sure you could give it another 10 years of your life no matter how much you liked music. You had decent CSATs result, maybe you could have applied for a university program. Seojun even offered to arrange a meeting between you and Suho who was studying to become a proper songwriter.
You talked for hours and ate the tteokbokki even though it had gotten cold long ago and you couldn't remember when was the last time you had felt so light. You felt giddy even with just the tiny bit of alcohol in your system by the time you knew it was time for you to go.
Once you had felt relieved knowing that promoting your duet would be only one performance but recently, you started dreading the moment because that meant that you wouldn't have any more excuse to see Seojun. In the backstage, this time around you greeted Jugyeong like an old friend and teased to give Seojun a funny makeup before walking up to your own assigned staff members. Your look was full of sparkles and glow fitting the silver colour of your dress, completing the ethereal vibe off the stage you were going to do and the beautiful song you had grown to love so much you held it close to your heart. The last rehearsals went smoothly and if you noticed Seojun's gaze lingering a bit too long, you didn't comment on it.
"Are you nervous?" he asked before the final recording and you knew it would have been unreasonable to deny it, so you replied with a small smile.
"A bit."
"Don't be. You're pretty and you'll do amazing," he reassured you and the way he said those words oh so easy. As if they were natural. As if he believed in you and maybe this was all the reassurance you needed because when you walked up onto the stage, not taking your eyes off his, it felt like it was just the two of you there. All the stress about not being good enough, about being judged for who you were and what you wanted to do with your life was subsided as you focused on the moment, just to sing this one song with one while trying to fight your heart's crazy beating.
You didn't really have the luxury to have crushes. You had always been concentrated on your work, you couldn't let yourself have distractions, especially since love scandals always affected girl worse than guy. At least that was what you told yourself for always putting up a wall around you and guarding your heart all too well. But during the past few weeks, between playful or flirty remarks, between smiles and ruffling hair, Seojun took apart your wall brick by brick even if he wasn't aware.
So it might have been only a few days since you had last seen him but in that rare moment of boredom, alone in your room, you realized that you missed him. Hell, you liked him and the feeling made me want to scream into your pillow as if you were a silly teenager. As if on cue, your phone buzzed with a new message and seeing the KakaoTalk ID made you shy.

Hey love, hope you're having a nice day
My mom strongly believes Taemin has a thing for using some sort of element to cover his head in most of his MVs. Obviously we're both too dumb to catch the symbolism (if any) so I thought why not ask someone who knows?
So what do you think? Is there any deep reason behind the head bags or is it just an aesthetic thing?
anon!!!! mwah!!! i'm having a better day because you sent this in!!!!
your mom is right, taemin absolutely has a thing for covering his head, specifically his face! you can see masks and/or veils (under the cut):
in the hit the stage performance of sayonara hitori
in the offsick concert teaser
in the nippon budokan performance of iâm crying
in the move mv here (there are several shots from this scene), and here
in the want mv here
thereâs a quick shot of him pulling off a veil in criminal
and of course, advice. and again.
also some other images:
1. from the ngda act 1 promo photos
2. from the 2kids promo photos
3. from the move album scans
4. the cover of ngda act 2 messiah version
5. an actual bag over his head in the criminal mv
6. from the most recent short vcr in the ngda beyond live
7. from the sayonara hitori album scans
this is not an exhaustive list because i know iâve missed some; i'm 80% sure there was a mask with the red outfit in the ngda act 1 scans but this is enough examples i think to show that itâs definitely deliberate. and i'm not even bringing up all the times he physically covers his face with a body part or itâs obscured through an effect, because then we gotta talk about the famous choreography, the idea choreography, the just me and you vcr, and countless promo photos and album scans from essentially every era in his entire solo career.
the backbone of the kpop industry in its current state is the idols' faces. human nature has proven time and time again that the easiest way to catch an audience is through a pretty face (by whatever the standards are at the time), and in an industry built on militant commercialism, of course the emphasis is going to be on those faces. you can see it in every bit of content. turning physical albums into mass collectibles, with multiple versions, giant photobooks, photocards. an idolâs face IS their uniform. when an idol doesnât want to be seen, what's the first thing they do? cover their face. (and people still take pictures of them anyways). iâve seen countless times on vlives and ig lives where an idol is wearing a mask and there will be a stream of âshow us your face <3ââs until they do. their face is their brand. every decision a stylist, a publicist, a company makes is to optimize exactly how beautiful they can make their idols look, because thatâs by and large what the fans want. obviously it's a product of the larger trend in unattainable beauty standards fueled by social media, but i'm not going to talk much about that, because it's a lot. if youâve followed me for long enough (probably just for more than a few days tbh, since i talk about it constantly), youâll have noticed that i'm a huge proponent of âuglyâ hair trends, and i'm a huge proponent of ugly styling in general. when idols have to be fashion models as well as inhuman performing machines, youâre setting them up to everything that plagues that industry as well, which means massive complexes about their faces and bodies, in the most mild of terms.
âuglinessâ has freedom in it. part of the reason why iâve gone extra insane for advice as a whole is because it IS ugly. taeminâs extensions ARE awful. his hands are blackened and dirty the whole mv, and so are portions of his body. heâs visibly flaunting his real tattoos*, which are still deeply stigmatized in the east. we see him get in a car crash. in arguably the most flattering/conventionally attractive outfit, heâs got heavy mascara tear tracks. the song isnât particularly melodic, the choreography is childish and jerky, the lyrics directly call out the people that treat him like an object. and of course, the mask. all of these are cracks in the facade, confronting us, on purpose, with the crumbling of his perpetually pretty, perfect persona. he's hurt, he's angry, he's got his hands deep in the grime of living in the public eye that the public refuses to see, and now he's going to smear it all over himself until you DO see it. at the end of the mv his triumph is not that he washes himself clean, but that he paints overtop. gesso on an old canvas; a fresh start, but fundamentally informed by the things underneath.
taemin uses masks as a way to deface himself. both in the literal sense of removing his face from the equation but also in the synonomic sense of the destruction, the obliteration, the vandalization of himself. of his brand. known as smâs pretty boy since he was 14, who is he if he doesnât have his face?
as a general device the masks are an entreaty to address him on his own artistic merit. but they do often have specific meanings within their contexts. in the iâm crying performance it is to remove himself as an entity all together; he is anonymous now, an unseen narrator to the performers on stage.** in move and want itâs for emphasis on his body; proof that he can still ensnare you with his limbs alone. pulling off the veil/reversing it back on in criminal as a revealing/concealing of the two sides of himself on display in the mv. the literal suffocation of one of those sides with a plastic bag. the voice in idea says âyou are my messiah,â but the cover of the album denies confirmation of that identity.
thereâs more to be dug into here, especially with the ngda act 2 photos but iâd have to go back through my catholic iconography notes again and this would be a lot longer than it already is. iâm also looking at this from a western perspective, there are undoubtedly double meanings specific to a korean context that i havenât clocked. but thatâs the reason i love his work so much! it stands up to a lot of rigorous analysis and thereâs always going to be something that i donât catch right away, something more to learn.
---
* we learned like yesterday that his hip tattoo is a peony, which he named as symbolizing freedom. peonies tend to have primarily positive meanings across east asian cultures, but in victorian floriography, they mean shame and sometimes anger.
** this style of performance is very common in cirque du soleil shows, especially the older ones from the early 2000s. it's pretty common to have a ballad or operatic singer featured as a ânarratorâ to a specific story section of routine. iâm sure this is probably frequent in other places as well, but iâm naming cirque specifically because thatâs where iâve seen it the most, and also because there is an actual circus performer on stage during this. plus thereâs a guy in a pierrot costume, who is probably the most famous clown***. (although the costume is technically wrong because pierrot is supposed to be unmasked. (ironic plays loudly in the distance))
*** clown of the technical variety and not clown of the honk honk birthday variety.
#taemin#im not just saying i like ugly hair because i have a neon orange mullet with an undercut#but also i do have a neon orange mullet with an undercut so that should give you a pretty good indication of my opinions#frankly im just for ugly clothes in general because im tired of looking at the same types of faces/outfits/whatever#thats been propagated by instagram and tiktok#also by celebrity culture and beauty standards in general#that being said none of what taemin is doing is actually ugly ugly#he definitely has waaaaay too much pride to deface himself physically that far and i doubt sm would ever allow it#this is just looking at his public persona and how it interacts with his art#his solo career in particular i think you would be hard pressed to find anything of shinee's that covers their faces#the odd concept photos are the only ones i can think of that come close#i think youd be hard pressed to find any group that willingly has covered or distorted faces in their main promotional material#without the purpose of like 'oh who is this going to be~~~' surprise type reveals#ok tags and the post are very long now i will stop#anon please give your mom a kiss for me i think it sweet you talk about kpop with her!!!#taemin meta#kpop analysis#text#anonymous#fun additional fact about me which is very indicative of my current path in life#i used to make my parents tape cbc broadcasts of cirque shows#those tapes and art attack were the only tv i watched with any consistency until i was like#12#i didnt watch a single disney movie until i was like 14 maybe?#did watching only art attack and cirque irreparably fuck me up as a child? yea probably#but at least i dont have a sentimental relationship to the disney corporation so i won in the long run#kpop questions#group analysis

WATERMELON SUGAR
Summary: Breathe him in, breathe him out.
Pairing: Loki x Reader
Warnings: very brief smut, (public) oral sex (female receiving)
A/N: This is Chapter Two of my âFine Lineâ series! This one is inspired by Watermelon Sugar, the first song I actually listened to by Harry (as a solo artist). I know he means for the meaning of this song to be open ended but come on, we all know that this song is about doing the dirty.Â
I hope you like this series! If you do, please reblog and leave feedback. I heavily encourage you to listen to the album (because itâs phenomenal), or listen to each song before you read each chapter. Speaking of chapters, they will be uploaded every Sunday at 12:00 PM EST.
A NOTE: EACH CHAPTER'S PLOT WILL BE A TIME SKIP FROM THE LAST CHAPTER. NO CHAPTER'S PLOT WILL OCCUR DIRECTLY AFTER ANOTHER.
Read Chapter One, "GOLDEN", here!
Find the âFine Lineâ masterlist here!
The sun shines, and the waves of the ocean crash onto the rocks and the shores of the beach. The sand is a beautiful white, and people laugh and talk as they lay on it, relishing in each othersâ company.
And you are no exception to this. Loki lays beside you, on a pink blanket that you brought. He had mumbled, âIâm not laying on that,â but once he saw you lay down, he sighed, though not with annoyance, and went to join you.
âIâm not used to this heat,â he says. Black sunglasses cover his green eyes, but you can tell he has his eyes on the water in front of you. âI was born on a planet of snow. I am forever cold. But this⊠this feels quite nice.â
You can hear laughter and cheers from a group of people to your left. They are all dressed in bathing suits and sunglasses, and they lay on towels as well. It seems they are being well-fed as well, as they all snack on fruit â you can see some of them eating watermelon slices. As you glance over to them, you see other people, people who are not in the original group, being offered the fruits as well.
âWant some watermelon, sugar?â you ask, a grin on your face.
âHm?â Loki asks. âWhatâs that?â
It takes a second for you to register it. âWait, youâveââ you stammer in disbelief, âyouâve neverâŠâ You stand up, looking determined. âYouâve never had watermelon? Iâm getting you some.â
âLove, you donât have to ââ Loki tries to object.
âNope, youâve awakened my curious side. I wanna see how you like it.â You grin down at him again. âHold on a second.â With that, you start to speed-walk down the sand.
Loki looks at you as you leave. His eyes roam all over you, and they spend a second longer on your ass than anything else. You wear a thin, small pair of bikini bottoms, and your legs are waxed and smooth.
He sighs, contentedly, laying completely on his blanket, letting the sun warm his face and his bare chest. He closes his eyes. He knows he canât sleep, not in this midday sun, but simply resting is good enough for him now.
A cool drop of something lands on his face a few minutes later, and it startles him a bit. However, he relaxes when he realizes itâs just you standing above him, holding something in your hand.Â
âEat up, babe.â
Loki reaches up and swipes the drop of the wet something off his face. Tentatively, he licks it. âHm,â he muses. âThatâs sweet.â
âTry biting it, youâll love it.â With a little grunt, you sit next to him again, offering him a piece of watermelon. He takes it.
After a bite and some slow chewing, he hums again in approval. âThatâs nice. Quite refreshing.â
âGlad you like it,â you say cheerfully. You nod over to the party to your left. âYâknow, those people were awfully friendly. Extremely kind. Very, uh, open and cheerful. They didnât seem to care about whether or not anyone was a stranger, they let them join anyway. It was justâŠâ You stop, trying to search for the words. âLove all around. There was plenty of food to go around, more than just watermelons â also raspberries and blueberries. They were awfully cuddly, too.â
âPerhaps theyâre on something,â Loki says smugly. âMaybe theyâre all high.â
âYou might think that, but maybe thatâs because itâs not⊠not widely accepted to be cuddly and open in public.â You roll your eyes, though not at him. âWhy canât everyone just treat people with kindness?â
âYouâre human. You have your faults. Those people? They mightâve just learned to move past them. We can all learn from them, canât we?â
âYeah,â you say. âThey might also just be relishing in the fact that we can be close to each other again. Physically, I mean. I donât know if you were here in 2020, but... uh, there was a ââ
âI remember,â Loki smirks, though not at the unfortunate memories of what had happened back then. âPerhaps we can learn from them about that, too⊠would you like to stay here until dark, my love? We could walk around, do whatever it is you humans do in the ocean, find some supper, just spend the whole day here?â
âWhatâs that look on your face for?â you chuckle. âDo you have something planned?â
He gasps, faking surprise. âMy darling, why would you ever think that? Itâs just an innocent day at the beach. Besides, theyâre not getting⊠too intimate.â
âWhatâs âtoo intimateâ supposed to mean?â you ask, a little something creeping into your head and making you smile.
He smirks but says nothing. Instead, he changes the subject. âDid you meet anybody when you went down to that group of people?â
Playfully, you roll your eyes at him. âEveryone there said hello, but I really didnât get to talk to anyone besides this one man. He was dressed as if it were spring, not summer â he was wearing a multicolored shirt, a freakinâ vest, and some sort of jeans. I donât know what he was thinking, but he certainly looked nice. I also liked his nails, they were colored as well.â
You look at the water as you chew your fruit. âYouâd look nice with black nails, maybe even green ones.â
He hums in thought. âMaybeâŠâ
The day passes quite slowly, but you donât mind. It stays hot and the sun stays visible. Clouds are almost nonexistent, which is always a plus when you want to swim.
Loki joins you, and you make great fun of splashing each other. When you go deeper into the water, he finds enjoyment in diving deep, coming up in front of you, holding your face in his hands, and kissing you before going back under. Youâre taken aback the first few times, then you get the message and kiss him back with a breathy laugh.
Drowning is of no thought to you. You can swim, but even if you couldnât, you know Loki would take care of you. He always stays close and you keep your eyes on each other.
When it gets a little later, you get out of the water and dry off. Many people have already left, including the little party you encountered. Only a few people remain, some of them in couples, and they either rest on their towels or walk on the shoreline.
âCould we stay here a little while longer?â Loki asks. âThereâs one more thing Iâd like to do.â
âYeah, sure,â you say amiably, though you wonder what âone more thingâ might be.
You both wait until everyone else has left. By this time, youâve put your shirt on, for your bathing suit has dried but it is getting colder. Loki has not put anything more on him. Perhaps he welcomes the cold.
When Loki starts to move, you look at him. He shuffles to you, practically crawling to you. You gasp as he lightly pushes you back onto your towel. Your head lands not on the hardness of sand but on a little pillow that was not there before.
âLoki, Loki, wh-what are you ââ
He shushes you, and just that alone makes you shiver with arousal. âIf you allow me, I would like to give you something⊠Iâve been here all day, resisting the urge to take you in front of all of those people. Do you know how difficult that was?â
âN-no,â you answer. âBut ââ You interrupt yourself with a nervous chuckle. ââknowing you, you probably couldnât hold it in for long.â
âHence,â he grins, looking down at you, his eyes lingering on your âquimâ. He likes that word. Heâs used it before. âWould you mind if I go down on you? I just wanna taste it. Maybe give you an orgasm. Whatever works for you.â
You nod frantically, but then you look around. No one else is on the beach, no one else is present to look at you.
âDo not worry about that,â Loki says when he notices your worried glances. He laces your fingers with his own, holding your hand and running his thumb across your skin in comforting little motions. âNo one is here, sweetness, just look at me. Do that, or look up. I know how you are when I do this. Sometimes youâre too self conscious to see me doing this to you with all my enthusiasm. So, if you want, look up. I wonât mind.â
You breathe out shakily, and your breath gets caught in your throat as you see Loki pull your bottoms to the side. Immediately, he begins, latching his tongue and lips to your most intimate parts. He licks and sucks all around, paying special attention to your clit â he knows what you like. Your stomach heaves as you breathe.Â
âI donât know if I could ever go without this,â he moans. âYouâre so wonderful and... and warm...â
You established long ago that Loki actually takes pleasure from pleasuring you, but it never fails to catch you off guard.
After a particularly hard suck to your clit, you moan, and it is louder than intended.
Loki seems to like it. âSounds just like a song. Sing for me.â
A laugh then. âOkay, Phantom.â When Loki looks up at you in confusion, you shake your head. âIâll show you later.â
Soon, itâs not long before youâre squirming in your chair, breathing heavily as Loki holds you down. The coil in your gut is rising, and rising fast. Lokiâs drive to please you is incredible, and you can tell heâs determined.
You moan, quite shamelessly, out loud as you reach your end, and it takes quite a long time for you to regain your senses. Loki smiles up at you once he gets his mouth off of your quivering pussy. âWas that good, love?â
You laugh, breathlessly. âYeah. Yeah, that was good. Thank you.â
You leave without saying much else about it. He takes you home, and kisses you in the doorway as you move to leave. The sun is long gone, and the moonlight fills the air with a white glow.
You turn to close the door behind you.
In a split second decision, you pull him into the house, and he doesnât resist. He stays the night, in your house and in your bed.

20 - Rockin' in Rio
Greetings one and all A quick return from the Bondi Bard. Last weekend there was a surprise party for Gerry and Sylvia in San Francisco, and judging from the email I got from Ratty a good time was had by all, and a few of our old mob were there. I would loved to have been there but I was committed to go to the wedding of a good buddy of mine. James and his new wife Suze got married on the original Manly ferry, which has been converted into an amazing houseboat and is moored at Balmain. The ceremony was at 7pm, just as the sun was setting to the left of us, and the Harbour Bridge to the right, very picturesque. An Aussie band called Leonardo's Bride sang their top five hit to the couple (of course I can't remember the name of it) and the girl singer has an incredible voice, and is also gorgeous and a very charming lady, who is shacked up with a DJ mate of mine. Lucky bastard. The booze was good, the food even better and a fun night was had. I can hear that question again, "Whats this got to do with Queen?" Well I shall tell you. James worked as an engineer at Metropolis Studios in London, along with the lovely Heidi, where the Queenies did a lot of recording, he also did some work with the band, but did a lot on BM's first solo outing. The next link is even weaker. I spent a good part of the evening chatting with Rob Hirst, who is the drummer with Midnight Oil, and is also a fabbo chappie. And being a typical drummer, while the Oils are not working he is recording his own solo album, as a singer/guitarist.......sound familiar. We had a couple of drinks and swapped a few stories, and as his wife was with us we managed to keep them all clean.
Staying on the subject of drummers I had an email, via Jacky, from a drummer who didn't seem that amused by the joke I told in my last ramblings, they might hit things but they are really quite sensitive deep down. So I suppose I should say I'm sorry, well I'm not. But here's another little jest to piss him off some more. Q: Whats the most asked question to a person with an IQ of 2? A: What sticks do you use?
Onto Sonia's request for some info on our trips to Brazil. What can I say about Rio except that it is a fun city and we all had a great time there, maybe that's why we went back a second time. On the first venture there I was still looking after the kit, and on one night myself and a few of the crew hit the town and got very drunk on the local drink, I think it was made from sugar, which I can pronounce but I've no idea how to spell it. (Help me out Sonia) We were in a bar getting louder and louder when a Welsh Rugby team came in, and they were big boys, and they are also on the tipsy side.
I'm 6ft, Jim Devenney makes me look small and Bob Bickleman made him look small, and the rugby players are of equal size, so we now have a contest on our hands as to which team can sing the loudest and dirtiest rugby songs. To start with the Welsh were winning because they had a couple of good looking women with them, and even though it was loud it was also in good fun. Devenney then comes up with the great statement that rugby is a girls game, the Welsh reply that at least they don't need padding when they play, unlike Gridiron, to which our team say, "OK, lets have a game on the beach tomorrow morning." This to me sounds like a really daft idea as I hate Gridiron, Rugby and Soccer, so one of the lighting guys and myself decided to leave, which means the Queen crew won by default cause neither team turned up on the beach to play, and as the two of us were leaving the bar we took their gorgeous ladies with us. Sorry Wales.
Our second visit to Brazil, when I was traveling with the band, was for the first Rock in Rio which was a two week festival with a host of big names on, each playing two nights. We did the opening night with three Brazilian acts, then Whitesnake who had Cozy as drummer, then Iron Maiden and then us. The second show was at the end and our opening acts were the B52's and the Go Go's. After the show I ended up in my room with a couple of Go Go girls, and boy were they party hounds. Apart from the bands I've mentioned there were other big names like Rod Stewart, AC/DC, Yes, George Benson and more. It was fun because we got to see old friends of the road, but it was also a nightmare cause we were almost prisoners of the hotel, due to the fact there were far to many fans outside the hotel, so we hung around the pool most of the time. The press were paying guests with poolside views so they could use the room and snap rockstars by the pool, which, of course, put an end to that.
The only thing left to do between shows was to get out of Rio and Roger and I heard of a great place called Buzios (Hope I spelt that correctly) which I suppose is about 100 miles away. Deaky and Wally decided to come as well, and being wimps they took a limo, unlike us drum type people, we don't eat quiche, we're gonna drive. The locals were all driving around in beach buggies, they look like fun, thats us, lets go. A buggy is basically a VW beetle with a different body, and our gleaming white buggy turns out to be the biggest pile of crap ever allowed on a road.
I take the wheel and we're not too far into our journey when 1st gear goes on the missing list, I don't care, I'm a good driver, I can start in 2nd. The gearstick decides to loosen on us, so trying to get it in gear was like stirring soup, who cares, onwards and by now our buggy decides to dump the clutch, so when it came to pulling away I just pushed the stick, and whatever gear it went in was the one we drove in. At least we can see the funny side of it all. What else can God give us to make this mission harder, how about torrential rain, which is great fun to drive in when you don't have a roof on the car. Needless to say the buggy rapidly filled up with water. Five minutes of this downpour and we get our next treat, the wipers pack up, so RT has to stand up and lean over the top and wipe the windshield so I can see where I'm going. By this time we look like a couple of soaking wet tramps, but we are killing ourselves laughing as we watch the red mud flow down the hillsides into the river we are trying to drive through. As we go round a bend we both screamed out "OH F***" at the same time. A huge truck was heading in the opposite direction to us, and as it passed at high speed a tidal wave of red water engulfed us and our crappy little car. I have to be honest here, that did wipe out a bit of the humour. We got to our destination, found the hotel and as the drowned rats walked in, the wimps were sitting in the bar, very dry with very cold beers. Next time, I'm with you Deaky. You would think the first thing I would want was a shower, nope, top of the list was a nice quiet chat with the company that rented us our friendly little buggy, and after a couple of well placed words they didn't charge us. Once there we had a good time. Oh, I nearly forgot, we did a couple of great shows as well.
Loads of the usual stuff

Ahn Hye Jin is a goddess. Everyone who has seen her either loves her, or hate her because they want to be her. With beauty, fame and charisma that goes off the charts, who could blame when you were to be drawn in like a moth to the light? Of course given the opportunity, you chose to chase after her disregarding the fact there were probably many others like you. It was a chance given, and it would be foolish not to grab at it. Be it getting your manager to buy her favorite drinks so you can drop it off for her whenever she was at the company practicing, leaving little notes with a container of food for her to heat up when she stays back for more practicing on her own or even occasionally popping by the studio when you had some free time off your schedules, you did you best to let your presence be known to her. Management didn't know of your crush, brushing it off as admiration for your senior whose group literally built up the company, and you'd prefer for it to stay that way lest you get kicked out barely a year into debuting. Hyejin however, knew of your intentions. You've made it clear to her when you gathered up the courage to manage to stammer out a "I like you." Before you could hear whoops from Wheein and feel the stares coming from the other two older members directed at you.
Over time, you've managed to also worm your way into the rest's hearts as they realized how pure your intentions were, and how far you'd go to try take care of their strong-headed maknae. Seeing as to how Hyejin has never properly rejected you, they slowly started putting in words for you whenever they spot your gifts for her, planting what they'd hope to be the seeds that will help make their youngest happier. It started from "Look at how thoughtful she is!" To âHey look, guess who dropped by again today~?â Each time, she would only smile and wave away at her memberâs teasing as she accept her gifts with a smile.
The small interactions with Hyejin and the rest of her members were great as you slowly got to know them more, just as friends. Sharing jokes and they would sometimes even invite you up for a meal together. It wasnât until a few weeks later of skirting around your very obvious infatuation with Hyejin did you actually put up your mind to do something. Nodding to yourself, you gathered up the courage and knocked on the door. Cheers were heard from inside and as routine, Hyejin came to the door to open it for you. Passing over her drink with a smile, she stood waiting accepted it with a small chuckle and thanks. Right before she turned away, you called out to her. Looking back at you questioningly, you took a few deep breath to try settle your pounding heart. âOne date. Just give me one date. Iâll show you that Iâm serious.â You could see her eyes widen in surprise and slowly cover her mouth with her hand. You shift nervously, not daring to break the eye contact. She was the one who looked away first and her gaze fell to the ground, seemingly deep in thought. Noticing the longer than usual interaction, the rest of the members curiously peeked over one another to observe the situation. Putting the pieces together, Wheein shared glances with the older members and back to her best friend and voiced out her thoughts. âWhy donât you give it a shot?â Slowly looking over to her, Hyejin studied her expression, followed by the encouraging looks Moonbyul and Yongsun was giving before going back to her own thoughts for a bit longer. All the while you stood, head slowly lowering, feeling your throat and chest slowly coiling and tightening on themselves while you prepare yourself for the rejection incoming. âSo what do you have in mind?â Snapping your head up, you find her staring right at you. You could almost hear your own heartbeat as you let out a breath you didnât even notice you were holding. Glancing past her, you see the enthusiastic nodding and thumbs up given to you by the rest of her members and you pulled out your phone. âIâll text you the details?â
As far as records go, the company only saw this meet up as a nice meal between a member of their top girl group and their solo artist. Youâve managed to book a small table at a cafĂ© that you were introduced by a few friends. It was a cozy little place near an alleyway, just a little out of the way of where the crowd would usually go. Settling down in the corner, you were both handed a small menu. Skimming over, you decided to place an order of a cup of coffee and a macaron for a sweet treat. Hyejin took a little longer to look through the menu but also ended up with just a cup of coffee. There was an awkward tension in the air as you constantly try to find topics to speak about to engage the woman sitting opposite of you when all you could get in reply was a few words in reply. With a smile, you could only nod and let the silence blanket the both of you as your drinks and snack came. Every time you looked up from sipping your drink, you could see her silently in her own thoughts and decided not to bother her lest she finds you annoying. It was when you were on the last few sips of your drinks did Hyejin finally speak up.
âI donât want to be harsh but I donât think weâd go well together.â
The words echoed in your head as they processed into what she was trying to say. You swallowed down the harsh reality that hit you right in your chest and nodded with a small understanding smile. âThank you for at least giving me a chance, and of course, being honest with me.â Nodding back, Hyejin went back to sipping her drink as the silence once again settled between the both of you, this time for you to quietly nurse your heart. Setting down the empty cups, the both of your stood as you pulled out your phone and texted your manager to pick the both of you up. While waiting outside the cafĂ©, Hyejin couldnât bring herself to look at you. A part of her felt that she had led you on, despite it just being that she couldnât understand of her own feelings. To make everything simpler for everyone, the best choice would be to reject and ignore it. A hand coming towards her in the corner of her eye surprised her, and with that she finally look at you again. âFriends?â Raising your eyebrow, you silently prayed that whatever happened wouldnât ruin whatever relationship you had between her and her members. âFriends.â Raising her hand to shake yours, a smile bloomed across her face in relief that you held no anger towards her.
You understood that it will definitely take time to get over the fact that you had a crush on Hyejin, so you chose not to avoid it. Instead, you faced the rejection straight on, and went up to Mamamooâs studio even more often to interact more with everyone whenever you had the time. Every now and again, youâd also have a member or two pop up in your studio to join in the chaos, much so adding up to your managerâs headache of trying to keep your appearance as an idol intact, knowing well fully that the random moments you shared with the group would most likely air out as update episodes in your mini vlog series. It took a while to realize that by taking a step back from pursuing Hyejin, that you got so much more closer to her. The awkwardness melted away and what was left was a healthy friendship.
It also took a while for Hyejin to realized how much more she had been looking to spend time with you. Or that the increasing number of comments in your vlog series were commenting on how much and fondly she looked at you. It became almost a daily thing to exchange greetings from dawn and annoy one another through text till dusk fell. It got to the point where whenever her phoneâs notification rang, does she perk up and rush to it and if it was not a reply from you, she would falter and according to Wheein, âLook like a kicked puppy.â If you had a schedule when she was free, she sometimes tag along with an excuse to keep you company but if you could see her behind all the staff, youâd notice her intense gaze as she studies you. The way you moved, the way you laughed, and even to the way your chest rise and fall as you breathed. Part of her knew what was happening, but she refused to act upon it. It wasnât fair that you were the one who risked your career to chase her only for her to reject you, and now suddenly changing her mind. You on the other hand didnât seem to notice all the extra attention you were getting from her and it annoyed Hyejin to a certain extend. She wanted the smiles you gave to everyone directed to only her. She wanted the jokes you shared and the laughter you gave to just be shared between you two.
It drove her crazy, the more she explored her feelings for you. It made her feel things that scared her. Scenarios would appear in her head as she watches you interact with others. Your words would race through her mind as she goes about her day. Images and memories of your gifts and notes pulled on her heartstrings. Maybe. Hyejin silently thinks to herself. Just maybe, I might be crazy. Chuckling to herself as she stopped in front of a set of doors, she sighed. Thatâs still better than letting someone else hold you, right? Looking up at the sign that stated the opening hours, she pulled out her phone to do a quick check of the time and pushed open to step through the set of doors.
The bass vibrated throughout the entire room as music boomed from the speakers in the practice room. Your eyes were trained upon your form as you connected each movement of your body to flow with the beat of the music. Seeing how focused you were on perfecting the dance routine, your manager could only sigh in failed attempt of trying to make you promise to not overwork yourself when your comeback was right around the corner before leaving for the night. At some point through the evening, you had shed your hoodie, leaving you in a cooling sports bra and sweat pants. Despite the lesser layers, you were drenched in sweat, and your hair had fallen from their ponytail, leaving them sticking uncomfortably to your face and body. Your body cried out in exhaustion as you slowed to a halt along with the music and panted to catch your breath. Slowly pushing yourself upright again, you groaned, body resisting the idea of one last run through of the routine. Right as you were about to hit the play button on your phone again, the soundproofed door of your studio swung open.
Your squeak echoed the room and your eyes darted up and widened in surprise to meet hers through the mirrorâs reflection. It took a second for your body and brain to relax when you realized that the intruder meant no harm when you noticed both her hands were occupied. Slowly turning and walking over to the back of the studio where she had moved from the door, you look at Hyejin questioningly before your gaze dropped to the contents in her hands. Instead of putting it down onto the table, she waited for you to walk over to her to pass you the warm cup of coffee and a paper bag. Carefully hold the cup in one hand, you opened the bag to see a lone macaron sitting inside. A wide smile bloomed on your face when your body understood that the sweet treat was a form of energy for you to function and you eagerly pushed it up the bag to take the first bite. You then remembered the very person that delivered it to you and with your mouth full, you could only smile even wider to her as you closed your eyes in bliss as the sugary snack awoke your senses again.
âOne date.â
Your eyes snap open as your jaw stopped its movement.
âOne date. Just give me one date. Iâll show you Iâm worth your time.â
Your smile slowly dropped as you processed what you just heard. Looking back down at the bag and the cup of drink, you recognized the name imprinted on its sides. It was from the very cafĂ© you two went to on your first and last date. Forcing yourself to look busy by continuing to slowly chewing the one bite in your mouth, you subtly turned your head towards the mirror to look at the woman, not daring to risk eye contact by looking directly at her. Even from the mirror, you could see her intense gaze, as she fidgeted her hands behind her, anxiously waiting for your answer.Â
âSo? What do you say?â
Swallowing the now mushy mess in your mouth, you slowly looked right back at her. Lifting the drink to your lips and taking a small sip, you looked for traces of this encounter merely being a bad joke of the rejection you faced at her hand a few months ago. When you could find none, you slowly lowered the drink and sighed. Even at such mundane actions, you could see her tense up in anticipation.
You chuckle suddenly, breaking the silence and causing Hyejin to flinch. That in return made you chuckle even harder when her look of confusion and surprise slowly melt away as your laughter went on. Finally taking a breath to stop, you smiled and answered her.
âI was hoping it will be more than just one.â

Not intended to depress us more, but what do you think will happen to Up10tion in september? I really hope they won't disband, but...
firstly i wanna apologise cos i have a lot to say so this might get long. i'll put a tl;dr at the bottom (if i remember) and also this might come across a little scattered cos i'm having a lot of thoughts all at once...
the sad truth is that top media literally has no reason to keep them. they dont make enough money to keep the company going (which is topmed's ultimate goal, one group that can sustain the company) and the company has proved multiple times they dont want to make the effort to make up10 that group. top media have been proving for years that they dont actually know how to handle more than one group and seem to equate letting sunyoul do his covers or sending a member on masked singer with them promoting up10. it doesnt, its just laziness. we're living in an age now where instant success and a music show win or you're done mentality is very high with companies and up10 dont have a win because of poor management (and the fact that fandom size is the most important factor for getting a win these days...)
more importantly, the company have done nothing to make any of the members want to stay or fight against disbandment
top media have done nothing but cause pain. they've taken two of their members away against their will and shipped another off to do his military service while he was on hiatus for unspecified reasons. both jinhyuk and wooseok have said countless times that they do not want to be soloists, they want to be back with their group. to some it may not seem it but what jinhyuk and wooseok went through with pdx/x1 (and everyone else that was affected) was traumatic and top media did not give them the support they needed or allow them the comfort of being with their friends that they have spent potentially 10+ years living as family with when that was what they needed. what they did was make them record solo albums and segregate them from their group, even going so far as to make them deny they were ever in up10
personally, as much as it will absolutely destroy me to lose them, i want them out of there. top media is not a good company and given how the company treated 100% and teentop, they've made it clear they only care about mcnd for now and up10's time may be over. the members all opening personal instagram accounts (and not following jinhyuk or wooseok and vice versa) was phase one, the moment the first one opens their own youtube channel it'll be obvious that the end is coming
tl;dr: it might be the end for various reasons and i half want to be proven wrong but also mostly dont want them under top media anymore cos they deserve better and to be up10tion
#sorry to go off on a rant#i get too riled up about how poorly top media treats their groups#i had to stop otherwise i'd just keep going

After reading the Brian bits posted here by @riaaanna, I read the article and pulled a few more of the things I wanted on my blog, most specifically the part about Another World.
Lots here about the We Will Rock You show. For those interested, the musical will be starting again February 2022, per Neil, below.
Bassist Neil Murray on His Years with Black Sabbath, Whitesnake, and Brian May
Murray spent decades playing alongside the biggest names in hard rock and metal, but was plagued the whole time by poor timing and bad luck
by ANDY GREENE (September 1, 2021) Â (rollingstone.com)
[...]
But it wasnât a very musically satisfying situation for myself and Cozy. I stuck it out a bit longer than him. We were both at the point of rejoining Brian May having done sessions for him over the preceding five years. Thatâs how long it took Brian to get another solo album. That was also, I think, a big mistake. It took him far too long to follow up the Back to the Light record, so people werenât that interested when he went out with Another World in 1998. There wasnât a hit single. There were too many covers on the album. Whatever momentum had been built up in 1992, â93, it was gone by 1998.
And then, tragically, Cozy had his fatal [car] accident not long before we went out on tour. Brian had to be strongly persuaded that he should carry on. He was really hit sideways by Cozy dying.
RS: Iâm sure you were as well.
Absolutely. It was a stupid situation that shouldnât have happened. There were lots of factors involved. He could quite easily be with us now. It was not something that was bound to happen. Youâre not talking about some really outrageous rock & roll character who is going to die at 27 no matter what. But it was a very sad loss for me, and for lots and lots of other people.
RS: When did you start playing in the Queen West End musical?
That was 2002. I did it for the whole run in London, which was 12 years. That was another situation where I had become good friends with Brian. When that came along, when they were putting the musical together, the normal thing is you have what you call a âfixer.â Iâm not sure what you call it in America on Broadway. But the fixer will choose the musicians along with the musical director, and they will place the guitarist or drummer or bass player in a particular musical.
But for We Will Rock You, they wanted rock guys in the band. They auditioned, for example, 30 different bass players. I had to prove that I could follow a conductor and read music to some extent. There were two guitarists brought in that were much more touring rock guys compared to your typical West End musical where you have guitar players who can play anything. They might struggle to sound like Brian May.
It was very much a situation where Brian and Roger were very involved at the start, and Brian has been ever since in all the different productions. But when youâre part of it, although we had more status because of Brian being very involved in the band, you realize after a time that the musicians in these West End shows are kind of the lowest of the low. Itâs assumed that producers and the director and the stars are at the top of the pyramid. And then the people in the company, and then the crew.
Right at the bottom are the musicians because, generally speaking, you hire them just before the musical premieres, and they have about two days of rehearsals. Theyâre expected to come in and read the charts and be note-perfect and play exactly the same every night for the next 10 years, and for somebody else to be able to step in and read all the notes and do exactly the same job.
Theyâre sort of treated like robots. But then also, the musicians tend to behave that way as well. âCan you stand in for me tonight? Iâm going to play in Blood Brothers or Les MisĂ©rables tonight instead.â Thereâs a lot of swapping around to keep things fresh for people. Itâs a different attitude from putting your heart and soul into it, like in a rock band.
Compared to a lot of musicals, it was more like being in a band. But compared to being in a band, it wasnât really the same. But it was very enjoyable, very pleasant to get regular money every week for 12 years. It was the longest lasting and reliable situation that Iâve been part of, financially anyway.
RS: And youâre still involved.
Yes, but there have been gaps. At first, the production was only in London. And then there were touring productions and productions in other countries. I stood in during a couple of different weekends at a couple of different U.K. tours, and then for five years I had nothing to do with We Will Rock You. But ex-members of the cast and band would do some Scandinavian tours playing Queen songs, so it was sort of a more band situation, but still very much geared towards musical theater in a way.
And it came out that there was a U.K. tour starting in the fall of 2019. I had so little going on at that time that I asked Brian if heâd considering putting me in the band for that. At that time, it was a completely different style of production. They were going to use all young guys. The way things are now with diversity, they are more likely to have chosen a female bass player. That wasnât a possibility for a couple of months, and then suddenly, out of the blue, everything changed and the production changed. They brought in reliable guys, like the two Australian guitarists that had done many different productions of the show. And so I did that for six months, and then we suddenly had to stop because of the pandemic.
Itâs restarting again next February. And although itâs very hard work, six days a week, eight shows a week, itâs nice to be earning regular money.
The problem is that it doesnât really allow you to do very much else, although in the intervening time between the London We Will Rock You and the touring We Will Rock You, I had a band called Snakecharmer and we did a couple of albums. It started off being a sort of Whitesnake tribute band, but it morphed into something much more where youâre doing similar style of songs, I guess, and a few Whitesnake songs live.
[...]
Some of the most satisfying times, musically, are when youâre doing something absolutely on the spur of the moment, maybe somebody else has played something, Ian Paice has played a drum fill or Brian [May] has played something on guitar, whatever it might be, and Iâm stimulated at that moment to play something different or play something completely outrageous because of this synergy, this interaction between musicians, which, speaking selfishly, I donât get enough of. In a way, itâs harder and harder to get into that kind of situation nowadays for all sorts of different reasons.
My hope for the future is to somehow be in a musical situation where you really couldnât be enjoying it any more than you are simply because of what everyone is doing, not just what youâre doing. But weâll see.

Regardless of the results I hope pjms can objectively self-assess following this release. I think there'll be some positive and negative. The truth is we're jimin's driving force as an artist and now more than ever members will be relying a lot more on their solo fanbases for success. Obviously company support plays a big part too but having a solid fanbase as artists even more so as idols is important. Tbf I think jimin has one of, if not the strongest solo fanbase among k-soloists right now but we have room for improvement. I hope this doesn't sound like I'm treating stanning like a job cause it's def not one and the priority should always be enjoying the music first. We all try our best to support jimin and help him reach new career highs because he's that amazing and that's what matters most.
All members will be seeing drops from the results they saw in their debut because a lot of armys aren't tuning in as much. The initial hype from solo debut is gone and now it relies on dedicated fans (armys / solos) to carry. Even with who and muse I know jimin will gain new fans and continue standing out as an outstanding soloist and that's best part to see him reach more people with his talent. Since face there are parts where we improved like streams it's fair to say pjms really learned to stream well and that's a strength but we still rely a lot on free streams as opposed to premium. We're starting to take AM a lot more seriously though so I'm happy about that since it's crucial for charting and longevity. If we keep improving there along with adding youtube and Spotify premium it'll be great. In terms of buying though we're definitely lacking and it's an issue we'll have to address eventually bc it was already obvious with the drop in sales from ctt to sgmb. I think people are so concerned about filtering now they don't buy as much. Now we finally got a lot of tools from bighit for muse and for who so I'll be looking forward to see if we can do good with that. Early predictions for bb 200 show our sales still kinda low but I'm assuming they didn't include the new tools we got. We also tend to not know how to focus on both single and album. For worldwide sales I'm not surprised it's much lower bc jimin doesn't have a bar that helps with buying his albums and truthfully I think that number doesn't matter as much. I know it's a big one in Kpop but in the streaming era no one except Taylor Swift is pulling millions of sales like that and most Kpop groups only do so because of inflated numbers due to never ending versions. I think jimin doesn't have to be limited to Kpop standards for achievements when he gets so much more.
On a more positive note it seems UK fans will be giving jimin his highest charting single there so that's another place where there's been growth.
I'm curious about what's your assessment.
I agree with all of this, donât have anything to add tbh.

haikyuu!! music idol au (karasuno ver.)
at long last here it is!! also most of this is based on my knowledge about kpop groups and the industry (as a kpop fan) but i made a lot of tweaks and iâm basically imagining this in a world where the kpop industry wasnât so hard on its idols and churning out commodities. but yeah! this is going to be the first part of a series so stay tuned for more! also this is p long because i added hcâs for kiyoko and yachi >~<
okay so in my head karasuno (or KRSN im sorry im bad at coming up with names) is like one of those really large groups that hav sub-groups kinda like NCT
they're from a fairly small entertainment company called umm KS Entertainment (im sorry im bad at names hnghn pt. 2)
its headed by ukai who's also like a really awesome choreographer and takeda who's like YG if YG had an exact opposite really kind twin who actually values their idols
(sorry im really salty)
takeda is honestly the sweetest, he's responsible for scouting and judging auditions
he'll basically let anyone who appears to put their all in pass the audition
he also likes to take care of all the trainees and make sure ukai hasn't made them dance to death
production crew are: ennoshita, kinoshita, and narita
kinoshita's like responsible for planning the concepts for every comeback
sometimes he thinks of really wild ones and ukai's jus like whoa there lets tone it down a bit
narita tag-teams with kinoshita by being karasuno's amazing stylist
his favorite person to style is suga but dont tell anyone that
and lastly we have ennoshita who singlehandedly produces every track on every album
he's also a really good vocal coach
and he's very tired because he's the producer and he also has to deal with tanaka and noya knocking on his door every five minutes
subgroup (night) KRSN-N
consists of: daichi, suga, asahi, noya, and tanaka
ok so karasuno has basically two main types of concepts: night (which is more like rugged and bad boy) and day (which is more boy-next-door and sweet)
the night subgroup has like a very strong rap line consisting of daichi, noya, and tanaka while for vocals we have suga and asahi
daichi is their leader ofc
he, suga, and asahi were in the same batch of trainees and had to (survive) live with each other for quite a while
his rap skills are really consistent and he has really good flow. also tends to start off their songs
his dancing skills are also impressive and basically just a great all-around guy
he's also really stressed from managing his group members esp because they're all children
asahi is one of their only two vocalists but he also has some good skills with music production and likes to work with ennoshita
he has a really deep but mellow voice
really shy when it comes to being onstage and meeting fans but he has the sweetest smile
tanaka is part of their dance line because boy can he bust out the moves
doesn't mind performing without a shirt. kinoshita has styled with him just wearing a jacket most of the time
his stage presence is just woah
the kind of performer who'd really get up close and personal with cameras and also people's phones
everything about him screams bad boy except for when he's really sweet in fansigns
noya is like their lightning-fast rapper who always comes in during the bridge
takeda heard him rap for barely a minute and quickly signed him in
more often than not enters the stage while piggybacking tanaka or asahi
also an amazing dancer who does all the gravity defying flips and jumps
he was invited more than once to collab with other artists
he and tanaka are trainee buddies and were inseparable ever since they ran into each other naked in the shower room
now for suga
he's like main visuals also main vocals also main dancer
was talented ever since he sprouted from the womb
he actually didn't audition his mom posted a video of him covering 'euphoria' by jungkook which takeda happened to come across
his voice is very high and he often harmonizes with asahi during the chorus
also tends to be really affectionate with daichi onstage and everywhere basically
so many 'daisuga being karasuno's parents for 15 mins' videos
subgroup (day) KRSN - D
NOW WE HAVE THE CHILDREN CHILDREN
okay so these guys have been together since their trainee years and basically had to live in the same room
which was like chaotic because they were always fighting and only yamaguchi knew how to do laundry so everyone was trying to be his friend
until daichi and takeda gave them a little pep talk so they don't hate each other so much now
n e weigh
first up we have yamaguchi who is basically jus very boy-next-door and also the unofficial leader of the group
he has an amazing voice and can hit the highest notes and he has a tendency to wink at the cameras
main vocalist and visuals
his fans love him because he's just so sweet
sometimes daichi comes in to check on how he's doing and treats him to a meal
he likes to check on other members during live shows
looks stunning in white suits also the fans made a petition for him to grow out his hair and now his hair is long
he and tsukishima have both dreamed of becoming idols and auditioned together
tsukishima's the main (only) rapper of the group
my brain: hnGhh rapper tsukki nskdkssm
he had to work on his stage presence but when he finally Got It he is such a master at it
also had to work on his dancing because he looked like a wiggling beanpole at first
most of his lines are actually written by him esp because he didn't want to say anything that felt embarassing for him and ukai was like 'why dont u write ur songs then?' and he's like 'mAYBE I WILL'
hinata's our other main vocalist, also main visuals and main dancer
his voice is p ordinary but whats great about him is that he's able to keep it consistent while busting out the hardest moves
personally learned a lot of his dancing from noya and tanaka
also he's always in the center because he's short and he looks adorable
he can nail the high notes too btw
he's the kind of idol who has the most random and funniest videos on twitter
kageyama's like their genius maknae
he had been training for such a long time and he actually wanted to be booked for another entertainment company but was rejected (hmm i wonder which company this was ??)
but he was a fan after seeing suga practicing when he toured the company and decided to join KRSN
he's in the vocal line as well and also main dancer
his voice is a lot lower so he harmonizes with yamaguchi and hinata
he and hinata were very competitive when it came to dancing during their trainee days
but they balance each other out pretty well and like to choreograph dance breaks together
super shy around fans and fansigns
most of the pics of him have kageyama doing the peace sign because he's awkward af
KRSN as a whole
takeda and ukai really encourage all of them bonding together and taking breaks in between all the stress of practicing and performing
they all live in one big house and its really chaotic
very few people know how to cook and do laundry
also there is an average of 2 accidents per week
but they do get along when it comes to practicing for the next comeback, especially when the subgroups have to collab
ennoshita's studio is a mess of sticky notes and crumpled up paper with probs asahi, daichi, tsukishima, and ennoshita napping on a couch
suga loves being able to train hinata and yamaguchi with vocals and they have a project of covering a new song every week for the fans
tanaka, noya, kageyama and hinata also spend a lot of time in the dance studio
whenever there's a new song they like to come up with movements to add to the choreography
after a really hard day of dancing they end up falling asleep in the studio and waking up to take-out courtesy of takeda
photoshoots and styling sessions take forever since there are so many of them but also its a good time for the members to get some sleep
but kinoshita and narita do not but in the end its all worth it when they see the photos and the reactions from the fans
their music and performances are very varied since they like to show that they're versatile as much as they can
they don't really prioritize being precise and flawless, more on channeling the emotion of their songs and power in their dances
no two performances of the same song are ever the sameÂ
KIYOKO
okay so takeda also had this genius idea of bringing out solo acts and after another round of auditions, kiyoko caught his eye
she's a bit older with idol training and recently left the group she was supposed to debut with because the company didn't treat them right
my girl kiyoko knows her rights
she's basically an all-around talent: good at singing, dancing, rapping, and visuals
takeda knew he would be dumb to overlook her and even though they've mostly been producing boy bands, maybe they'll have success with a solo female idol
kiyoko was very clear abt wanting to have more control over how she was going to be presented and also wanted the opportunity to write her own songs
and takeda and ukai were jus like well yeah duh, that's why we scouted you
kiyoko was like an immediate success
her style is def very sassy and sexy, especially with her dancing ability
kind of like Chungha or Hwasa
but her fans also like her more melancholic and deep songs that are accompanied by her piano playing
she's also super confident and loves to use her platform to empower women
sometimes she does get together with the KRSN members
she collabs pretty often with suga esp when it comes to dance covers and performances
the day she asked tanaka and noya to be back-up rappers for one of her songs was the happiest moment of their lives
kiyoko's a fucking queen
HITOKA
because i wrote hc's for kiyoko i have to make one for yachi too
she's quite interesting because yachi joined like one of those idol training shows and kiyoko happened to be a guest judge
watching yachi sing made her sense some sort of potential so kiyoko being the bad ass bitch she is convinced takeda and ukai to work with her
yachi almost died hearing that Queen Kiyoko thought she had potential
her first years training to be an idol were really tough on her, esp since she was aiming to be a solo act
but she spent a lot of time training with the KRSN - D group and they really helped boost her confidence
everyone in KRSN and kiyoko asked their fans on twitter to support her when yachi's first album dropped
yachi's music is super mellow and light and she has a very sweet, high voice
comeback stages and music video shootings are pretty scary for her but she really shines in live, studio sessions
also knows how to play guitar
writes her own songs !!!

SUMMARY: This were the 6 times you really wished you had kissed Harryâs lips. And time the one time he kissed you. A Harry Styles x male reader fic because there arenât enough of these around.
Tags: Harry Syles x male reader; angst; fluff
I said iâd fucking do it. Might make a malls series out of it, not sure yet.
~~~~~~~~
The first Time you really wished you could kiss The Harry Styles was, well, after he became your crush. Teen years and all, who could resist the pop sensation of 1D? Not you, thatâs for sure. All it took was watching a goddamn talent show on TV to develop a crush on a curly haired boy with a dimpled smile who you would never know.
But you could dream, literally. After your diehard crush left the show and became part of band, you dreamt of it. And you had an embarrassing dream where you kissed the boy. You blame the YouTube videos really.
Nonetheless, it was an impossible crush, idealized at best. Thatâs what you told yourself.
~~~~~~~~
A year later, you were dragged to yet another social event that you really wasnât a fan of. It was on a very fancy estate that belonged to a media CEO your father was friends with. The kind of event where you had to go to have lunch, listen to some live musicians, pretend to like everybody, kiss some ass, be up to date on everything from politics to the personal lives of the present. It was just a tiring afternoon altogether.
What you didnât predict on your tiring plans was that your fatherâs friend, was also a friend of the agent of a particular band that the crush you still hadnât gotten over was on. Luckily, you dressed to impress on these occasions. Maybe fate was on your side and you had a shot?
Arriving at the lunch party, you and your parents were immediately lead to the host, and you lost a good hour saying your greeting to many of the present. Since most of the people were a little older than youâd like, the conversations tended to drag on. Only when you heard one the guests comment on one of the performing bandâs name your head did a whiplash.
After a while you found them, they were there with their agent who was introducing them to many influential people. Even if the boys werenât very comfortable. And Harry was there too of course. You wanted to go and introduce yourself, but that would be way too awkward. So you decided to just keep some distance and wait for the universe to save you from yourself.
And yet again it happened.
You were on phone, pinning over the boy a few feet away to your friend, when you heard the voice you only knew from music and TV beside you. Lifting your head, you saw that Harry looked like a deer in headlights when a man you recognized was inquiring him about many subjects you were pretty sure were internal secrets from SyCo. You doubted he knew any, and couldnât believe someone would do it so blatantly in public.
So you stepped in, right between Harry and the old man.
âHey, Mister Stone, long time since we last saw! Iâm so sorry to interrupt, but I have to steal Harry here, we have some urgent business we need to discuss right away.â You said, giving Harry a wink and a chance to leave.
âYeah, thatâs right! I had forgotten it, we need to leave right now.â Harry said with that deep voice of his.
âOh, hello (Y/n), but of course, if he had already made plans with you, Iâll take my leave.â The man left without question.
You guided Harry to a more secluded place you knew, where there was a bench near a small lake, having been there way too many weekends for this kind of parties.
âThanks for that.â He started. âI really didnât know how to run away from him.â
âNo problem, these people are crazy sometimes. Just donât let them smell the fear in you and all should be fine.â You responded with a smile.
He returned it, and damn seeing it up close his smile was even better. âYou could have come sooner you know?â
âComplaining to the people who save you mister Styles? Not very British or polite of you to treat your hero this way is it?â you teased with a smirk.
âNo, thatâs not it!â He quickly responded, waving his hands. âI saw you earlier, when I was with the boys, itâs just that⊠you could have said hi before.â
âOh⊠you saw that⊠Well, thatâs embarrassing.â You averted your gaze, making him chuckle.
âAnd are you gonna properly introduce yourself? You know my name, so I should know yours.â He offered giving you a sympathetic look, which only made you blush a little.
â(Y/n) (L/n), nice to formerly meet you.â You said, extending your hand.
âHarry Styles, but you already knew that.â He said with a smile.
When you shook his hand, you swore he held it for way too long, and when you were going to let go of it, he kept holding your hand. Boy, you were definitely blushing and in heaven. But these things never last, and his vibrating phone ruined it.
âSorry, I have to go; we are going to play in a few. Are you going to watch?â
âSure, I might know a few songs.â You probably knew them all.
âHere.â Harry handed you his phone. âGive me your number so we can meet later. Never know when I might need rescuing.â He gave you a wink.
And that was the second time you really wished you could kiss Harry Styles.
You watched the show. But you never got to meet him after it, their agent ushering the boys out because of some appointment they had later on.
~~~~~~~~
That night you a text message that read:
Hey, itâs harry, bummer we couldnât talk after the show⊠but we can text Going to put your name as (y/n) my hero x
- H
That was the third time you really wished you could kiss Harry Styles.
~~~~~~~~
Over the next two years, you and Harry had only grown closer, but unfortunately, not physically, as you wished. You still had a massive crush on him. And you both talked nearly every day. But through texts, voice messages and video chats. One Direction was always on never-ending world tours and interviews and whatnots.
And you, well, you had been forced to join the family business, had your university classes, and a very demanding schedule that you didnât really like. The both of you had met here and there, but only for a day or two every year, when both of your schedules permitted.
It would soon be your 20th birthday and you what you really wanted was to have a day off, go to a gay club, and maybe have the guy you liked with you. But you knew that was impossible. Just imagining the headlines on the papers could already give you headaches. If your father even let the papers run to tell the truth, he would probably wrap it up and just kick you to the street, saying you died in some accident. Or worse, they only were the accepting kind in public.
Harry knew, not that you had feelings for him, but that you werenât straight, he had already admit not being exactly straight himself, but the impact of admitting it to the public, well, management had already said it was a big no.
When the date came, you sneaked off from the big party that your parent threw you to answer a call from Harry. He was all sweaty and tired, probably had just ended a show and really needed some rest if your math was right, but he called to wish you happy birthday, to tell you everything would be alright and it would get better.
That was the fourth time you really wish you could kiss Harry Styles.
~~~~~~~~
Later that year, One Direction announced a hiatus. And you thought that maybe it was finally it, your chance. You could tell harry how you felt now that he was going to build his own career. You were even prepared to face the consequences with your family.
He told you himself how he would be able to be his own person, do stuff he liked, make his own choices, how happy he was. And you were so happy for him. But along with the news, came the news that he was starting to see a girl, a model or whatever.
That night you cried yourself to sleep. And hated yourself for spending three years liking a guy that you talked to everyday, who became such a big part of your life, one your best friends, and not admitting it. And you hated harry, because you pretty sure he knew how you felt, even if you hadnât admitted it. But all that you really wanted before you finally got to sleep in the midst of your tears, was him to make it better.
And that was the fifth time you really wish you could kiss Harry Styles.
~~~~~~~~
After that you both slowly fell out of contact. You started making excuses about classes that you werenât really taking, exams that you had already taken, you even began working more on the familyâs company, making a name for yourself and earning quite some money.
Harry went on to become a solo artist, released his first album. Went from your crush, to your best friend, to the guy you probably even loved, to a friend, to a guy you used to talk.
When his second album was released, he only sent you a ticket and backstage pass with the message:
I hope you havenât changed your number and this is still (y/n) my hero
Can we talk?
- H
You never replied to it, but took a plane and went to the show anyway.
During the show you became certain, time had not fully mended your broken heart. You still felt an ache looking at him, listening to his voice, seeing his smile. But neither of you had said a word to each other in three years, since you congratulated him on his first album, so you owed it to Harry to at least listen to what he had to say. It was not as if he knew why you had stopped talking to him.
After the show you went to meet him backstage, a member of the staff leading you to Harryâs room. Absorbed in your own thoughts, you didnât even knock, just let yourself in, only realizing what you did after you slammed the door shut.
He was the first to speak, startled by your bursting in. âHey (y/n)⊠You are here.â He got up from his chair, taking a step into your direction.
âHi Harry.â You gave him a half smile.
âYou look nice⊠I didnât know if you were really coming. You never answered my text.â
âYeah, about that, must have forgotten it⊠But you look nice too. The new hair looks good.â You gave a genuine smile, your hand rising to feel it, but you stopped yourself.
âThatâs a lie.â He said calmly.
âWhat do you mean?â
âThe text, you didnât forget it (y/n). I still know you, I know when you are lying to me, I always knew.â He said looking deep into your eyes, voice firm.
âIs that what you wanted to talk about Harry? You called me here to call me a liar?â You defended.
âNo. I asked you here because I missed you, and there is something I needed to know!â He sighed, tiredness showing in his voice. âI have been wanting to ask you something for the longest time, it just keeps me awake at night, so I need to know.â
âYou could have called.â You spat, crossing your arms. You werenât really sure if you had said that to him or to yourself.
âWould you have answered?â
âI⊠donât knowâŠâ And that was the truth. âI missed you too you know? Like, every dayâŠâ you laughed bitterly. âYou were my best friend, and not talking to you was so fucking hard... What do you want know Harry? Ask away, apparently I canât lie.â You looked at him for answers, what could he want after all this time? It had been over four years since you two fell out, you were pretty sure there was nothing more left of your friendship to savage. You wish there wasnât, at least it wouldnât hurt looking at him.
â(Y/n), look me in the eyes and tell me truth, did you like me? Did you ever like me? Not like as your best friend, but really like me?â
And âwell fuckâ was all that you could answer. It was such a clear and quick response to an unexpected question, that no further answer was needed. And that made Harry smile till his dimples showed.
âSince when? Why didnât you tell me?â He took another step closer to you.
âReally Harry? For someone who can tell when Iâm lying you are pretty daft. Since when? Since fucking always.â You started pacing the room. âSince we first met. I had a crush on you before, but when we became friends and I got to know you, I started to have real feelings for you.â You were angry and it all just started spilling out. âAnd it only got worse, but you couldnât date a guy because of one directionâs management. And when you became solo I was gonna tell you, I was gonna fucking confess my heart out! But you said you were dating a girl you never mentioned before.â Tears started to appear at the corner of your eyes. âSo thatâs why!â
âOhâŠâ He stared dumb folded at you.
âOh?! Is that all you have to say Harry? I expected at least a verbal rejection.â You half yelled, balling your hands into fists.
Harry got in front you, grabbing your hands and stopping your pacing. âDo you still like me?â
âI just really want to punch you right now. If thatâs why you are asking and holding my hands?â
âNo you donât. I know youâd never punch me.â He said with that smirk that you hated yourself for finding so cute right now. âIâm asking because I also liked you. I still do, never really stopped you know?â He said intertwining your fingers. âSince you saved me from that creepy old man. Why do you think I saved you name as âmy heroâ on phone? I had the biggest crush ever on you. But I didnât know if you liked me. Even after you said you were gay, I kept thinking that I had no chance, because we could never see each other. So I just⊠I settled with having casual relationshipsâŠâ He shrugged.
Your tears were now flowing, so Harry caught them with his thumb before continuing. âWhen we stopped talking, I assumed you had found someone. But I couldnât get over you⊠Thatâs why I called you here.â You could see tears starting to appear on his eyes as well.
âI couldnât get over you and that stupid smile of yours either, you know? Or over those eyesâ You said laugh bubbling from your chest.
âIâm so fucking happy to hear that.â
And looking at him smile at you after all that was said right there between the two of you, that was the sixth time you really wish you could kiss Harry Styles.
But this time, when Harry saw you looking at his lips, his hands left yours and cradled your face, his eyes slowly closed and you could feel his breath nearing yours. This time, it was Harry who kissed you.
The meeting of your lips was everything you wished for and so much more. It was both soft and delicate like you always wished, but also a little rough with desire. You could literally feel the knots in your stomach, your hands going to Harryâs waist. Both of your lips soon opened way for your tongues, looking to explore each otherâs mouths, it was a fight for dominance, a longing to recover the lost time. Both your and his hands began mapping your bodies while you breathed the same air. It was like dancing to a silent song you always knew but never heard. It was perfect.
When you parted, both breathless and cheeks tinted pink, looking into Harryâs green eyes and stupid dimple smile, you knew. He felt the same as you. And for now, that was all that mattered.

Dust Volume 7, Number 9
Les Filles de Illighadad
Another collection of short reviews closes out this week at Dusted, with selections ranging from avant garde classical to free jazz to whacko punk to an unusually gender-inclusive guitar band from Niger. Â Writers this time included the usual stalwarts, Bill Meyer, Ray Garraty, Jennifer Kelly, Jonathan Shaw, Bryon Hayes, Tim Clarke, Andrew Forell and Chris Liberato. Enjoy.
All Set â All Set (RogueArt)
youtube
In 1957, serialist composer Milton Babbittâs All Set applied his language-transforming compositional tool kit to the sonic resources of a jazz orchestra. Six decades and change down the road, such ideas havenât exactly infiltrated the mainstream of either jazz or orchestral music, but theyâve become as handy for some music makers as hammers and nails are for carpenters. So, when saxophonic colleagues Ingrid Laubrock (who sticks to tenor here) and StĂ©phane Payen (playing the straight alto) needed to come up with a framework to make music together, out came Babbittâs notion, which they did not play straight, but used as a suggestions for writing their own tunes, and for good measure named their band after the Babbittâs piece The formative influence manifests in zig-zagging intervallic leaps, but instead of treating these of ends in themselves, the saxophonists carry on constant overlapping dialogues. The rhythm section of Chris Tordini (bass) and Tom Rainey (drums) canât help but swing, but they do so in a shifting, discontinuous fashion that occasionally leaves it to the saxophonists to play the gaps as well as the horns they use the fill them.
Bill Meyer
Rodrigo Amado Motion Trio & Alexander Von Schlippenbach â The Field (No Business)
The Field by Rodrigo Amado Motion Trio & Alexander von Schlippenbach
Motion Trio is one of tenor saxophonist Rodrigo Amadoâs more enduring combos. But itâs not one that has played often in the years preceding this concert, a consequence of the growth and success of its members; Amado, cellist Miguel Mira and drummer Gabriel Ferrandini all keep busy with other projects. So, this encounter with pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach, which took place in Vilnius, Lithuania in 2019, was not just a reenactment of the trioâs favorite tactic of improvising with a strong fourth musician, but a reunion of the trio itself. This means that the process-oriented can listen for three comrades finding reviving a common language at the same time that they confront with an outsiderâs efforts to deal with it. Schlippenbachâs playing brings an unusual harmonic density to Motion Trioâs music, which seems to coax an especially dynamic and at times reflective response from the saxophonist. Ferandini, on the other hand, proposes shapes and timbres that seem to build out from Schlippenbachâs intricate constructions, while Mira keeps up a steady, almost subliminal stream of contrapuntal commentary that is simultaneously assertive and nearly subliminal. But some of the concertâs most exciting moments come when the pianist lays out for a second, and you can hear Motion Trioâs members responding to each other.

BangGang Lonnie Bands â H2K On the Way (TF Entertainment \ Anti Media)
youtube
Lots of artists have watched small projects intended only as appetizers grow to surpass their grander efforts. BangGang Lonnie Bandsâ recent work, especially his King of Detroit albums, contained a few gems but were bloated in length. There was an ironic twist, as Lonnieâs claimed the throne to the city where he no longer resides. While it remains to be seen what the rapper brings after H2K On the Way, this 15 minutes long EP is his leanest work in years, leaving a long list of LPs behind. Lonnie no longer flirts with scam rap and returns to murder music, fusing gutsiest Michigan-style punchlines with no hostage Californian approach to verse spitting. Heâs the naughtiest when heâs trolling the music industry: âCopped a 100 pounds of crank \ should have bought a verse from Drake.âÂ
Ray Garraty Â
Buffalo Daughter â We Are the Times (Anniversary)
youtube
Buffalo Daughter always caught in the cracks between mainstream and experimental, layering vocal sweetness over chopped up blippy beats, not as wildly original as OOIOO, but not exactly girl pop either. This latest album comes after a long break and a slightly less lengthy COVID lockdown, and itâs got some prickly, dreamy jams, part dance, part pop, part funk, part inscrutable. âET (Densha)â is the mad, moody single, full of low-end synth blasts and thundering drums, but leavened by high whispery vocals. Itâs like Shackleton sound-tracking a Hello Kitty movie. âGlobal Warming Will Kill Us Allâ is similarly ominous, with vocoder chants and trippy pop choruses and blown out by phosphorescent blots of synth, but I like âDonât Punk Outâ the best, because it struts like an animatronic James Brown, the funk percolating through gleaming futuristic swells of sounds. If discoâs going to come back, can it be this weird and disorienting?
Jennifer Kelly
Fashion Pimps and the Glamazons â Jazz 4 Johnny (Feel It Records)
Jazz 4 Johnny by Fashion Pimps And The Glamazons
This new EP from Fashion Pimps and the Glamazons manages to fit into the tradition of whacko punk records from Cleveland (and what a tradition that isâŠ) and to comment on the problematic nature of tradition itself. Thereâs a decided No Wave vibe to Jazz 4 Johnny: listen to it, and youâll flash on Buy Contortions and on Robert Quineâs attempts to channel Miles Davis and Pharoah Sanders through his guitar. At points youâll swear thereâs a sax somewhere in the buzz and thunder that the Fashion Pimps create â but thatâs just Richard Glamazonâs skronky guitar tone, which does Quine one better by not only aping the cadences of a free jazz solo but also the sound of a brassy axe. Thatâs fun, but we should also recall No Waveâs sharp antipathies for concepts like âtraditionâ or âperpetuity.â A lot of those bands wanted to neutralize their own existence and thus evade the ultimately conservative action of canonization. Other tunes on Jazz 4 Johnny are more engaged with the later Downtown noise rock scene. The guitar on âDream Policeâ gestures toward early Sonic Youthâbut even there, the band canât quite help themselves. Vocalist Steve Chainsaw shouts, âShow me your DNA!â Most of those references are based in Manhattan, so what about Cleveland? The city often recedes into the background when conversations turn to rock-n-roll history, which is too bad. Fashion Pimps and the Glamazons donât sound all that much like electric eels or Pere Ubu, but the band is tuned into a similarly feral, post-industrial ethos and an avant-garde sensibility that makes anti-art into art you can dance to. Or break things to. Or both. Which may be the best response to the wild and smart tunes on this record.
Jonathan Shaw
Les Filles de Illighadad â At Pioneer Works (Sahel Sounds)
At Pioneer Works by Les Filles de Illighadad
The entrancing At Pioneer Works documents the American touring debut of Niger-based Tuareg ensemble Les Filles de Illighadad, specifically a pair of shows at the eponymous Brooklyn venue. Travelling as a four-piece ensemble, the band created a swirling three-guitar maelstrom, as captured on this pristine-sounding recording. Founder Fatou Seidi Ghali â the first known woman Tuareg guitarist â and her cousin Alamnou Akrouni were joined by Fatimata Ahmadelher, the only other known woman Tuareg guitarist, with Ghaliâs brother accompanying on rhythm guitar. Blending the traditional calabash drum and call-and-response vocals of the tende song form with the electric guitar, Ghali and company steep the communal origins of their sound with a gentle clangor. The music is simultaneously hypnotic and driving, the four performers acting as one multi-limbed, multi-throated being. For the most part, Ghali is content setting the pace and playing along with the melody. One exception is the trio of deftly executed solos during âChakalan,â where she demonstrates her prowess with six strings. Reports from those Brooklyn shows indicate that the band completely enraptured their audience, and if At Pioneer Works represents only a fraction of how powerful Les Filles de Illighadad are live, this writer doesnât doubt that at all.
Bryon Hayes Â
Henri GuĂ©don â Karma (Outre National)
Karma by Henri Guédon
You donât have to be a big fan of R.E.M. to feel overly familiar with âItâs The End of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine).â In dire times, itâs such an easy go-to tune that even adherence to lockdown prescriptions wonât keep it out of your ears. So, deejays, weâve done your research for you, and found a new tune to soundtrack defiant frugging in the face of disaster. Itâs called âFin Di Mond,â by Martinique-based singer/percussionist/sculptor Henri GuĂ©don. It, and eight more similarly motion-motivating tunes, can be found on Karma, a predominantly celebratory set of retro-futuristic, Franco-Caribbean grooves. Mind you, this music wasnât retro when GuĂ©don recorded it 46 years ago; the synth lines that swoop through its massed percussion were probably the height of modernity back in the day. Heard now, this music is just the thing to put time itself on pause.
Bill Meyer
HTRK â Rhinestones (Heavy Machinery)
Rhinestones by HTRK
Rhinestones is a sneaky one from Melbourneâs HTRK, a slight but incisive release that seems minor compared to their previous albums but cuts just as deep. Running to a brutally economical 26 minutes, most of the album is built around delayed guitar, drum machine and Jonnine Standishâs ghostly, dejected voice. To a world laid low by the pandemic, Standish sounds startlingly apposite for these times, and track titles like âSunlight Feels Like Bee Stings,â âReal Headfuckâ and âStraight to Hellâ signpost the vibe clearly. This is sad, skeletal music, sure to offer a degree of solace if youâre weary, wrung out or wasted â 2021 in a nutshell.
Tim Clarke Â
Matt Jencik â Matt & Lyra (Trouble In Mind)
Matt & Lyra by matt jencik
Matt Jencik is a member of doomy, spacey Chicago band Implodes, plus heâs released two solo guitar albums: 2017âs Weird Times and 2019âs Dream Character. For his latest, Matt & Lyra, part of Trouble In Mindâs Explorers Series, Jencik focuses on the thick, fuzzy tones of the Russian-built Lyra-8 synthesizer (hence the album title). Having said that, he does pull out his guitars to add some acoustic strumming to âCmellow Ayellow,â and builds 16-minute closer âClandestine Half Pipeâ around electric guitar drones before the Lyra begins to dominate the frame. Jencik apparently made this music to help him sleep, and while this music is suited to nocturnal listening, with an all-enveloping warmth, thereâs also the sense of something looming in the darkness. Whether this presence is reassuring or threatening probably depends on the frame of mind with which you approach this immersive 35-minute release.
Tim Clarke
Joakim â Second Nature (Tiger Sushi)
youtube
French producer and Tiger Sushi founder Joakimâs Second Nature is a reflection on the state of the world. It combines samples of whales, elephants, toads and other wildlife with the kind of pop facing ambient techno from aughts chillout compilations. Â It is testament to his skill as a producer that the record doesnât wear out its welcome despite the occasional lapse into the anodyne and the associations this kind of gentle background music evokes. When Joakim disturbs the tranquility on tracks like âSferics & Whistlersâ with its crackles of static and breakdown of discordant notes, Angel Bat Dawidâs klezmatic clarinet on âWaves Aheadâ and the komische roll of âKepler-39â that one is jolts from reverie and pays close attention, but at 16 tracks it feels like Second Nature needs more such moments.
Andrew ForellÂ
The Killing Popes â Ego Kills (Shhpuma)
Ego Kills by The Killing Popes
Thank god this unfortunately named combo isnât someoneâs absurd scheme to crossbreed the sounds of Killing Joke and Smoking Popes. Instead, the Berlin-based project exists at the crossroads of jazz and electronics. I know what youâre thinking, and no this isnât a modern take on acid jazz; this crew makes a jazz-on-acid sort of racket. The core Popes are drummer-percussionist Oli Steidle and multi-instrumentalist Dan Nicholls, who together conjure up a brew with a myriad of ingredients. Their genre-defying fusion of disciplines does have a center, however. Steidleâs dextrous drumming and the elastic band bass proffered by Phil Donkin serve as an anchor point for the other elements â both melodic and bizarre â to revolve around. The addition of vocals inserts the sense of narrative, creating a gravity that tugs at the sounds and prevent them from spiralling out of orbit. As zany as Ego Kills may be, itâs jazz-like enough for afficionados to appreciate. On their own, each of the instrumentalists demonstrates a mastery of their craft; together, they create an uncanny sort of magic.
Bryon Hayes
Norman W. Long â BLACK BROWN GRAY GREEN (Hausu Mountain)
BLACK BROWN GRAY GREEN by Norman W. Long
Chicago soundscapist Norman W. Long walks his southeast Chicago neighborhood, listens deeply and records the ambient sounds of nature, the echoes of railyards, wasteland and industrial sites both working and abandoned. Adding subtle electronics and treatments to his field recordings, Long conjures atmospheres that speak to space, atrophy and the delicate symbiosis between nature and humanity. On BLACK BROWN GRAY GREEN he immerses listeners in the often unnoticed aural richness at the intersection of the built, neglected and the natural. His choices about when to augment or to present his sources as are forms a narrative of associations, displacements and tensions. Longâs is also a story of reclamation and recognition, a rumination on the situation of the largely minority and migrant populations who live in the neighborhood, many of whom toil as essential workers across the city in the face of ongoing prejudice and hostility. Site specificity is integral to Longâs art but his themes are universal.
Andrew ForellÂ
Andy Moor â Music For Safe Piece (Unsounds)
Music For Safe Piece by Andy Moor
Music For Safe Piece is the antidote for every piece of childrenâs music thatâs ever made you want to not hear another played or sung note, ever again. Electric guitarist Andy Moor (the Ex, Dog Faced Hermans) and dancer Valentina Campora have included their sons, Elio and Milo, in onstage performance ever since they were so young, they had to be swaddled and strapped to one of their parents in order to participate. The recorded results of this shared adventure are raw, unpredictable and exhilarating. Moorâs guitar, occasionally augmented by a childâs vocalization, a foot pounding the floor or some choice tune fragments on a cassette tape, blazes a trail of reverberations, scrapes and wobbles. In performance, the boys are known to get in on the act, helping pop to make his sounds while mom handles the movement. This music isnât particularly pacific, but itâs pretty close to the way kids actually play when no oneâs stopping them. The technologically adept will find a QR code inside the CDâs gatefold, which unlocks the short film, âSafe Piece.â
Bill Meyer
RXM Reality â Advent (Orange Milk)
Advent by RXM REALITY
Long-time Hausu Mountain dweller Mike Meegan has relocated to the Orange Milk abode, taming his frenetic brand of electronic mayhem in the process. The blown-out, off-the-grid beats are still plentiful, but with Advent Meegan injects his tunes with melody. Heâs also allowed himself to slow down and relax. The vast expanse of âCharacter Limitâ literally breathes deeply as Meegan allows it to swirl around. He drinks up the pleasant melodic aromas of the track before switching gears and unloading burst after burst of explosive beats. âThese Daysâ comes off as an electro-shoegaze hybrid, with gauzy synth pads that float effortlessly among bouncy percussion clusters. Of course, the signature RXM Reality sound â a hybrid of 1990s video game and blockbuster movie â is present and accounted for in tracks like âAllure,â âScreaming,â and âGrip of Evil.â Yet even these balls of energy are tempered with shades of consonance. Having blunted some of the jagged edges of his frantic brand of electronic music, Meegan fits in nicely among the kooky ranks of the Orange Milk imprint.
 Bryon Hayes
Macie Stewart â Mouth Full of Glass (Orindal)
Mouth Full of Glass by Macie Stewart
You might already know Macie Stewart as one-half of the complicated indie rock duo Ohmme or for her regular appearances as violinist of choice in Chicago jazz and experimental music scenes, but this solo LP shows another side.  These eight songs are lushly, intricately arranged with strings, orchestral instruments and brass, recorded with precision and clarity, but nonetheless personal and introspective.  âGarter Snakeâ sheathes flaying honesty with baroque instrumental flourishes. Stewartâs voice is bare and unaffected as she confides, âI am addictedâŠto indecision,â but she makes riveting choices in framing the melody.  Old-fashioned movie strings swell in the spaces between talking-right-to-you verses; agile guitar chords mark time.  âFinallyâ begins in bare, Bahian guitar play, as Stewartâs voice flutters and floats an unpredictable but fetching tune.  Strings swoop in at the end of the phrase, lavish and lucid.  The title track unlooses massed, harmonized vocals on the spare architecture of picked guitar, a shock of extravagant sung beauty in an otherwise restrained palette.  Like Wendy Eisenberg, but with different instruments, Stewart weaves post-modern complexity into the delicate fabric of pop songs.  The difficulty â combined with the beauty â makes this music memorable.

Stingray â Feeding Time (La Vida es un Mus)
Feeding Time by Stingray
In places where heavy music is played and endlessly debated, 1982 might be most strongly associated with English street punk â see the ersatz âgenreâ of UK82, which enshrines the year and ties it to acid green liberty spikes and scuffed Doc Martens. Fair enough. But street punk was thoroughly informed by the dirty working-class metal being made by bands like Motörhead and Venom, and this new EP by Stingray celebrates those noisy intersections of influence. Of course, Stingrayâs version of celebration likely involves several cases of Bass Ale, an eightball of something white and a fistfight or two. Or five. The English band features members of other current hard-driving acts, including Subdued, the Chisel and Chain of Flowers, but Stingray doesnât prize currency. The songs are short, hard and nasty, landing their punches like a âBomberâ and also like a bunch of âDeath Dealers.â The guys in Stingray understand the past theyâre drawing on, but does music like this have a future? Fuck knows. Do any of us have a future? Does the earthball? The tunes are less interested in such flights of existential angst, and more intent on their rapacious appetites for speed, sweat and raunch. Itâs Feeding Time. Get it while you can.

Nick Storring â Newfoundout (Mappa)
Newfoundout by Nick Storring
Youâll miss some towns if you blink. The ones that have given their names to the compositions on Newfoundout might confound both eyesight and your GPS, since they are all ghost towns in Ontario, Canada. The music that Nick Storring has made to go with these titles is correspondingly elusive. Performed entirely by the composer, using strings, percussion and whatever bric-a-brac happened to be at hand, it is by turns lush, staccato and propulsive. âThe sounds are never particularly difficult, but they rarely telegraph where theyâre going, so if you listen passively, sooner or later youâll look up in dismay, wondering how things got from where they were to where they are now. âKhartum,â for example, starts out sounding a lot like âIn A Silent Way,â and finishes up sounding like a respectfully paced conference of grandfather clock chimes. So, put your head back and your ears forward, and let Mr. Storring do the driving.Â

Ten Ka â Sonic Geometry: Structures, Patterns And Forms (Jersika)
sonic geometry: structures, patterns and forms by TEN KA
Ten Ka is experimental side project of Deniss Pashkevich, a Latvian woodwinds player. The album titleâs invocation of mathematics is apt, since this music is produced by dissimilar musical values acting upon each other. Pashkevichâs sound on tenor sax is full and soft around the edges, which is probably what it takes to be a working musician in a part of the world that doesnât have much of a jazz tradition; on flutes, and especially the Bansuri, he hints at a far Eastern vibe. He also plays Fender Rhodes and prepared acoustic piano, bringing in further elements of user-friendly jazz, but also some sharp, Cage-y edges. But most of the nine tracks on Sonic Geometry: Structures, Patterns And Forms feature modular synths, which provide a foundation of pulsing bass patterns and some intriguing disruptive, acidic sizzles. Â It all adds up to something simultaneously familiar and out of the ordinary.

Luis Vicente / Vasco Trilla â Made Of Dust (577 Records)
Made of Mist by Luis Vicente & Vasco Trilla
Not many improvisational settings are more exposed that the drums and trumpet duet. The two instruments are sufficiently different in timbre and frequency range that you canât help but hear everything each player does, and also how those actions fit together. Trumpeter Luis Vicente and percussionist Vasco Trilla approach this situation with a combination of relaxed consideration and wholly earned confidence. Vicente can power-play when necessary, but for this session, he exercises restraint, using mutes to extract the most lyrical and vocal sounds he can muster. Trilla likewise seeks out the extremities of his kit, drawing continuous ribbons of widely differing characters, such as the alarm clock-like clatter and low-scrubbed drumskin heard on âSwirling Mist.â Their interactions are not just sonically novel, but trusting and deeply intimate.

Simon Waldram â So It Goes (Self-released)
So It Goes by Simon Waldram
Simon Waldramâs refrain-heavy eighth solo album, So It Goes, is a song cycle on love, loss and acceptance influenced by classic indie pop bands like The Field Mice, The Fat Tulips and The Go-Betweens. Indeed, it was the Grant McLennan-channelling âDonât Worry,â a plaintive reassurance to a past lover, that initially caught my attention. But âI Miss The Sunâ betters it, really laying on the Hammond, and squeezing in something noticeably absent from the other songs: a bridge. âWhen will we see the lull again/Feels like these dark days will never end,â Waldram sings, reestablishing buoyancy as it winds down repeating the title phrase. Thereâs promise elsewhere, like on the 1960âs-flavored psych strummer âBoats In The Sky,â before it lifts its bow in harmonic repetition a few too many times without checking its fuel gauge first, stranding itself in the firmament. âThe Wild Wanderings of Wildebeestsâ is another one with potential, but its flawless first verseâs worth of strum and fuzz just recurs instead of building towards something of greater impact. The record hits its lowest point on the nearly nine-minute âWindswept,'' a âPrimitive Painters'' rip that goes nowhere productive. When Waldram starts repeating ad infinitum âI miss you so much/ I canât let go of this dream of ours,â you wish you could step in and save him from himself. A pleasant enough acoustic instrumental with birdsong follows in the form of âOne May Afternoon,â serving as a much-needed palate cleanser and bridging the gap to the albumâs closer. However, âShimmerâ is another moaner that never quite rounds into shape and instead fades out and then, unremarkably, back in. Â Thereâs an EPâs worth of good material on So It Goes, but as an album it only ends up burning itself with the flame its carrying, leaving the listener wondering, âWho hurt you, Simon?â

dream the night away
title: dream the night away
characters: (fem) reader x hwang hyunjin of stray kids
genre: slice-of-life, romance, angst, best friends to lovers au, idol au, idol!hyunjin, hyunjin centric, inspired by 3rachaâs cloud 9 but not really?
warnings: minor character death, sometimes heavy, slow burn (aka i wanted it to be but i wasnât patient enough), i tried to proofread, i gave up trying to format text convo on tumblr, i think they kiss a lot.
word count: 11.6k iâm so sorry
synopsis: one night, hyunjin wonders how he long can stay floating on cloud 9 before he loses his balance and falls all the way down to the pits of hell. After that, nothing feels right.
disclaimer: this is idol!hyunjin so i just wanna say that this is not how hyunjin is in real life and im not trying to convince you that he feels the things in the story. some parts are inspired by the things theyâve said but everything that happens here is pure fiction... which actually goes without saying since this is a fanfic, but i just feel the need to say it. for my personal long ass authorâs note, you can read it below.
Hyunjin is met with darkness when he steps into the dorm. It used to be more packed, it used to be messier, and it used to be really loud. Now he only shares the dorm with the 00z who are surprisingly quiet if you think about it. Seungmin sleeps early, Felix has his headphones stuck to his ears and plays games until the sun rises, and Jisung is snugged somewhere watching movies. On busier days, Seungmin and Felix are at the company for lessons and Jisung spends the night at the studio with Chan and Changbin. Hyunjin, meanwhile, usually has some photoshoots.
However, tonight feels unnaturally quiet, especially since Hyunjin has just won his first Bonsang as a solo artist. He switches the lights on, and his friends are soundlessly huddled together by the fridge, Jisung holding a small cake.
âSurprise!â Seungmin exclaims rather flatly as Hyunjin drops to the floor out of shock, shouting profanities. Felix proceeds to grab some candles from the kitchen counter and lights them up. âCome on, blow the candles."
Hyunjin lets out an amused sigh, rising to his feet before blowing all the candles out. âPlease tell me these arenât those candles that stay lit nâwhat the hell.â
He continues blowing, his friends giggling while Seungmin groans. âWhy did you have to curse? I was about to post that on Instagram Story!â
âWhy are we doing this anyways? Weâre not 18 anymore,â Hyunjin protests half-heartedly. He canât really remember the last time they gave each other a proper surprise. It feels like ages ago. Jisung scoffs, searching for a knife inside one of the kitchen drawers. Slicing the cake, he retorts, âYour dramatic ass loves surprises, stop denying it.â
âAnyone has anything to do tonight? The hyungs want to come over,â Felix informs while typing on his phone. Hyunjinâs vibrates after a few seconds; everyone on the Stray Kids group chat must be congratulating him.
Seungmin opens the chat, frowning. âWhereâs Jeongin?â
âHe hasnât been replying since hours ago. That brat probably fell asleep. Just ask his bro if heâs home,â Hyunjin suggests, about to reply to Chanâs message when another message pops up.
y/n: sorry i couldnt watch the show
y/n: but i saw the news! congratulations!!
y/n: so proud of you, as always!
Hyunjinâs eyes light up at your messages. Itâs been months since he saw you; heâs been busy with his solo debut and youâve been busy with school. When both of you were children, you often pictured how life would be. Hyunjin would be a famous soccer player for Manchester United and the captain of South Korea national team. You would be studying to become a doctor.
He finds it funny that youâre doing the exact same thing while heâs doing something he never even imagined before. Hyunjin is always amazed at how well you planned your whole life and executed every single plan, albeit not always instantly.
After all these years, though, he dares to say that both of you turned out okay. Amazing, even.
âOrder whatever you want. Iâm eating outside but Iâll be back soon,â Hyunjin tells his friends, bombarding you with messages before you turn your phone off, the thing you always do when youâre about to cram.
Seungmin arches an eyebrow. âY/N?â
âYeah. I asked whether she wants to eat gopchang with me.â
âYou should really be careful.â
âEveryone knows weâre best friends. No one will make a weird rumor or anything.â
Jisung clicks his tongue. âWell, do you?â
Whenever someone talks about you, it always leads to this very conversation. Hyunjin decides to let Jisungâs question (sarcasm) hang in the air, but he knows the answer. Yes, he knows you and him are just best friends. Does he like it that way?
Hyunjin knows the answer to that too. He only pretends that he doesnât.
Youâre already slurping your soup when Hyunjin says hi to the restaurant owners, Mr and Mrs. Jang. âOh Hyunjinnie, I just watched you on TV. You won something, right?â he asks. His wife ushers him to sit down, putting extra servings of kimchi on the table.
âWhy didnât I get extra kimchi?â You pout, shooting a jealous glare at Hyunjin whoâs busy explaining what a Bonsang is to the owners.
âYou did a good job, then,â Mrs. Jang coos. âYou donât need to pay today. Itâs on us!â
You quickly put your spoon down. âWhat about me? I barely sleep thesedays, and Iâm not as rich as Hyunjin!â
âAigoo, you started eating before your friend came then demand for free food. Youâre lucky we love you as much as we love Hyunjin.â
The couple laugh at your reaction, jokingly scolding you for being whinier than Hyunjin when it used to be the other way around. He smiles, remembering all the times he forced you to eat his eggplants for him and the times when he begged you to help him study because he needed to beat all of his friends.
âEat,â you scowl. âYou only have half an hour to brag. I have a night shift.â
Out of the times youâre being petty towards him, you were only seriously petty once: when he beat your English score in ninth grade although you were the one teaching him. He had to bribe you with a weekâs worth of Haribo jellies before you stopped ignoring him.
Hyunjin giggles. âWhenâs your exam? Tomorrow?â
âNext week,â you whine. âBut I have so many things to do! And I think someone stole my notes, I canât seem to find them anywhere. Do you even understand half the pain Iâm going through right now? All I need is one solid hour of sleep.â
âHmm,â he hums. âTell me something I donât know.â
You widen your eyes, eyeing Hyunjin from head to toe. âSometimes I forget youâre Stray Kidsâ Hyunjin.â
He pretends to stab himself on the chest. âThat h-hurts,â he fake-groans. âThen who do you think I am?â
âMy neighbor,â you answer. ââwho doesnât even live at home anymore.â
âTo be fair, youâre practically holed in hospital now.â
âYeah but I go home every two weeks? You go home twice a year.â
âExcuse me?! I went home on your birthday⊠in the middle of a tour! I couldâve been sleeping or practicing, but I came home!â
He always âarguesâ with you until both of you are out of breath, clutching your chests because it somehow feels hilarious. You drink the last few drops of the soup right from your bowl, setting it back on the table and empty your glass in one go.
âI donât have enough energy for this,â you sigh dreamily, prepping your head on your arm. âTell me about everything. Your first Bonsang.â
Hyunjin can still hear his fansâ voices chanting his name and cheering for him as he delivered his speech while sobbing (this is what he hates from solo promotions, nobody else is there to stop him from crying or taking over the mic from him so he could calm himself down). He remembers every single word he said and the proud faces of his fellow artists. The thrill, the triumph, the satisfaction, the love⊠itâs making him emotional all over again.
He grabs a tissue to blow his nose. âI was surprised when the company said that I was invited. Our group hasnât made a comeback this year, and although my song did chart quite well, I never expected they would even invite me.â
âThey gave me a 5-minute stage! I was so happy, I sent you my rehearsal videos, right?â
You nod, imitating one of the moves in his dance break.
âEverything was even more amazing on stage, with Stays watching me. I think I was possessed during the performance⊠I was goddamn nervous though.â
âYeah, I watched it on the way here. You kept licking your lip, I donât care if your fans think thatâs hot. To me youâre just a nervous messâŠâ
Hyunjin has started to pout when you add, â⊠who did a very great job nevertheless! Itâs just that Iâve known you so long. You canât hide anything from me.â
He notices how youâre holding your breath, waiting for him to respond. After years, Hyunjin thought he would take negative comments much less seriously, but apparently it didnât become easier. It became harder, so hard that he had to take a 3-month hiatus last year.
With you, everything is different. You can tell him that he sucks big time and heâll take it seriously, but he never gets offended. There are a lot of times when people treat him like heâs made of glass (or a snowflake, Seungmin once said), but you treat him the way youâve always treated him and he loves it. None of his other friends understands, but your honesty is priceless. Itâs what keeps him going; he knows youâll never cherish him less no matter what you say about the way he dances and raps, or the way he looks and behaves. And heâs sure that his honesty also means the world to you. You are each otherâs toughest critic, but it will never change anything.
âHyunjin.â You place your hand over his, eyes wide. âIâm sorry. It just slipped out of my mouth.â
He chuckles, flipping his palm to squeeze your hand. âYou idiot. You just stated the facts.â
You squeeze his hand back before pulling away. âIâm looking at Hwang Hyunjin of Stray Kids who sold over 100.000 copies of his first solo album, who won Bonsang for the first time, who gets worshiped by everyone he locks eyes withâexcept for me of course. Iâm a very proud friend.â
âStop it.â Hyunjin rolls his eyes, but unable to hide his smile once he sees you grinning like a happy child. âHow much time do we have left?â
You glance at your phone, sighing when a reminder for you to study pops up. â5 minutes. I have to go back to the hospital soon.â
âCan you even study during your shift?â
âI have to,â you mumble. âAnyways, thanks for dragging me out. I did miss you after all.â
âI missed you too,â Hyunjin says, probably too quick for his own good but he doesnât regret it.
âIâll be going now.â You stretch your limbs, grabbing your bag and slinging it over your shoulder. âAny last words before I go to war?â
âI should be the one asking you that.â
âOh, right.â
Chan is the only one awake by the time Hyunjin gets back home. He huffs in regret, knowing that the hyungs decided to stay over to celebrate his Bonsang win. The leader greets him with a bear hug, carefully avoiding Felix and Minho who are fast asleep on the floor. âWeâre so happy for you!â he whisper-yells. âHow was Y/N?â
Hyunjin returns his hug with an even tighter one. âThanks hyung. You composed the song after all! And sorry I came back too late.â
Chan shakes his head. âNah, itâs fine. At some point we forgot why we were here and just started playing mafia.â
âY/N is fine, anyways, just tired.â
âSheâs always tired, isnât she?â
âYeah. It turns out that medical students are probably more tired than us.â
Hyunjin leads Chan to his bedroom. Each of the 00z has their own bedroom now. Itâs much more convenient and they can arrange their stuff however they want to (they avoid entering Jisungâs room as much as possible), but Hyunjin misses the mess at times. The old dorm was cramped, either too hot or too cold, and way too noisy, but it was home for quite a long time.
Chan seems to be having the same thought. âWe miss you kiddos sometimes,â he laughs. âBut we fixed that sliding door. It closes properly now.â
âAs long as Changbin hyung keeps opening it with too much force it will be broken again in no time. Trust me.â
Both of them are lying on Hyunjinâs king size bed, staring at the sideboard table he dedicates for his music showâand now, music awardâtrophies. âThe kids donât really say it but theyâre all so proud of you. Iâm proud of you. I raised you well, didnât I?â
âYeah, you kinda did.â
âKinda?!â
âIâm joking.â Hyunjin scrunches his nose. âYou raised all of us. We raised Jeongin. And we raised each other.â
â3racha are almost finished choosing the final songs, you have 2 weeks to relax then weâll start production right away. Our next tour wonât start until May, so we have plenty of time to prepare everything.â
âOhhhhh I can feel my bones breaking already. Weâre getting old,â Hyunjin whines.
Chan pats his thighs, cracking his knuckles before jumping out of bed. âYouâre getting old,â he teases.
âIâm glad, though. Everything finally works out the way we wanted to. I guess we can say that weâre doing well now, right?â
Chan doesnât wait for Hyunjin to answer and leaves the room right away. The latter ponders the rhetorical question for a while, recalling the goals they have reached for the past few years. Entering the Melon chart (and staying on Top 20 for a week), having one of the most successful world tour, winning prestigious awards at prestigious music awards, 3racha getting acknowledged as the industryâs top composers, 00z winning music shows for their unit debut last year, Jeongin getting drama roles, and last but not least, Hyunjinâs successful solo debut.
Feeling nostalgic, he scrolls through his phone, looking at old photos and silly videos. Looking at the lyrics he wrote on his note app. Then he goes through @realstraykidsâ posts on Instagram, from when Jeongin still had braces until tonight. The latest selcas on his own official account are still getting likes, the fans showering him with praises.
Hyunjin has ticked off everything from his wish list. He has reached every goal he set a few years ago. They are doing well. Heâs doing well.
He looks at his surroundings, immersing himself in the space and peace of his room that he once craved desperately. Heâs supposed to be at peace now, but his mind wonât stop buzzing, asking himself what to do next.
For the very first time, Hyunjin realizes that heâs now floating on Cloud 9. Everything is perfect, heâs living his dream life. But at the back of his head, he can hear the clock ticking, ready to push him over the edge the moment he loses his balance, watching him fall all the way to the pits of hell.
Everything is perfect, but why does his heart feel so empty?
Hyunjinâs brows furrow as he tries to catch some comments the fans are posting. When he was a rookie he couldnât get used to how fast the comments come in, and itâs something that doesnât quite change. Probably he got used to it at some point, but they kept gaining fans that the comment section is always extremely active.
âHyunjin oppa,â he pronounces the words slowly. âSpo-spoiler please!â
He lifts his head to give the viewers a secretive smile. âNope.â He wiggles his forefinger. âYou have to wait for the teasers!â
âOhhh the comments! You guys are so excited I canât keep up!â
More comments flood in, and Hyunjin has to press his phone screen in order to read the one comment heâs been trying to read. âRecommend me a song, please!â
âUhhhââ He takes some time to think of the songs heâs been listening to, tapping his fingers against the surface of the table while the comments keep coming in, but this time he spots words that stab him right on his gut. With trembling hands, he lifts his phone, clicking the report button as subtle as possible. His vision grows blurry as he reports every single comment that has the word âfuck youâ, âdieâ or âtalentlessâ in it.
The pause has become too long and too awkward, so he stops himself from reporting more and stares at the lens. âAh, song recommendation!â he exclaims. âI have quite a lot but thesedays Iâve been listening to 00z songs a lot. We had so much fun promoting together.â
Hyunjin feels his other phone vibrating in his pocket, probably his mother checking in. It gives him a boost of energy, and he tells his fans heâll stay with them for 10 more minutes. âWhen weâre just talking like this, Iâm always reminded that weâve come so far,â Hyunjin says, a smile on his face. âIt feels good to know that all of you are making time for us, for me, after your busy day. And no, Iâm not sleepy. Donât worry, everyone!â
He reads some more comments, mostly cheesy pickup lines to cheer himself up as his brain is still trying to get all the hurtful words out of his system. âAh, I think I have to go now,â Hyunjin announces lowly. âI have to go back to practice, if not Chan hyung will barge in and drag me back to the practice room.â
âWhat? You want me to get scolded by Chan hyung? Why are you so mean?!â
Hyunjin ends up staying for 20 more minutes before finally ending the broadcast. Conversation with his fans is something he values a lot; it gives him strength and makes him laugh. It makes him feel loved and he wants his fans to feel the same.
But itâs equally tiring. He has to brace himself for some less-than-nice comments, sometimes they are way too severe for him to handle that the company sues all the commenters. Youâve told him over and over again that those people arenât his fans.
Everything couldâve been worse. Hyunjin still considers himself very lucky that he has much more fans than haters. Still, he often imagines how it will feel if he has no hater at all, since he does have some friends who seem to only hear pretty words.
Hyunjin stays inside the room for a few more minutes, replying to Seungminâs messages and assures him that heâll be back soon. He idly plays one of their songs he hasnât heard for years, the song that was always included in their setlist before being replaced by some other songs. Hyunjin initially thought he wouldnât need that song anymore, but tonight, he needs it. Maybe he needs it more now than before.
After making a mental note to ask the other boys to add the song back to the concertâs setlist, Hyunjin leaves, cursing himself for taking too much time to regain his composure.
Should I stop or not? Should I give up or not?
âHwang Hyunjin, stop coming into my room without my permission! You literally trespassed into someone elseâs property!â
Hyunjin groans into his pillow, instantly regretting his decision to pick up your call at midnight. âI didnât!â
âDonât lie to me. You took Gureum with you!â
He takes a quick glance at the rabbit plushie he placed on top of his pillow. Last night, he did go home because Kkami (everyone calls him old man now) got a little sick. âI miiiiight have made a quick detour next door when I was about to leave.â
âYouâre pathetic. You got soooooo many plushies and toys and cute headbands from fansigns and you stole my Gureum.â
âStop guilt tripping me! I missed Gureum, okay? Why didnât you take him to your dorm?â
Hyunjin senses your hesitation as you clear your throat. âWell, sometimes seeing Gureum only makes me miss everyone more, so I just left him at home.â
Now he feels guilty. Your parents are currently staying overseas to take care of your sick little sister. He pictures you coming to an empty home every two weeks, exhausted and not having anyone to welcome you.
âDo you want me to come over?â
âOur superstar isnât busy?â
âI am, but Iâm willing to sacrifice my precious time for my best friend.â
You scoff over the phone, but telling him to hurry up before ending the call. Hyunjin packs his clothes and toiletries, along with Gureumâhis birthday present for your 11th birthday. You almost never sleep without it, yet the plushie still looks brand new.
Unable to hide his smitten smile, Hyunjin grabs his keys.
The apartment complex where Hyunjin lives has changed a lot over the years. The soccer field he used to play at is now a playground. The little bookstore you loved so much is now a bakery. Now thereâs a big shopping mall right across the building. After saving up for a while, Hyunjin asked his parents whether they wanted to move to a bigger place. He kind of hoped that they wouldnât want it because he wanted to stay close to you (although coming home is a real challenge for him). Luckily, his parents said no.
He enters your door password leisurely, recalling the time when your parents told him to take care of you.
So far, youâve been the one taking care of him.
Hyunjin heads straight to your bedroom, opening the door and sees you curling on your bed. The mattress he sleeps on whenever he stays over is already laid on the floor.
âGureum!â you yell when he throws the squishy rabbit to you. Hyunjin drops his bag and settles himself on the mattress, staring up at you.
âHowâs your sis?â
You scoot towards the end of the bed, showing him a photo on your phone. Your sister is smiling; she looks much better than before, but still very pale and thin. âI havenât called her,â Hyunjin admits. âBut she got the albums I sent to her. Sent the ones signed by the others too. That kid loves Jisung, do you know that?â
âI got her into Jisung.â
He sits up, looking almost offended. âYour bias is Han Jisung?â
âThis world doesnât revolve around you, superstar.â You flash him a cheeky grin. âI wanted to ask you to let me go to the backstage again last tour, but I restrained myself. As your kind best friend, I shouldnât abuse my privilege.â
âYou know that he never cleans his room, right?â
You hum, âNobodyâs perfect, Jinnie.â
âOh come on!â Hyunjin protests. âIf itâs Jeongin I understand although he also never cleans his room. But Jisung? And youâre calling yourself my best friend!â
âHeâs funny!â you argue. âHe has a nice voiceâitâs really sexy when he raps, he dances well, he wrote all my favorite Stray Kids songs, and he actually had the balls to fight you. A real champ.â
Hyunjin rolls his eyes, making a gesture to snatch Gureum away from you. âAnd at the end of the day, you love him,â you add. âHe makes you laugh too.â
Well, itâs a fact he canât refute. You ask, âDo you think I should hit on him or something? Will people call me out? Does he have someone?â
âWe are not having this conversation Y/N. I donât care if both of you are my best friends, youâre not dating Han Jisung. What happened to that âhot seniorâ Jung Jaehyun? The last time we called, you were so in love with him.â
The mention of Jaehyunâs name causes you to slump into your bed, covering yourself with your thick blanket. âI sort of blew it up,â you mumble. âHe asked me on a real date and I said no.â
You seem to hit realization thatâs way too late, and now youâre hollering, âI said no to Jung Jaehyun! Oh my God Hyunjin⊠Iâm such an idiot!â
Hyunjin canât contain his giggles. Relief washes over him; you and Jaehyun seemed rather serious and while he wished you well, the thought of you being with someone else always pains him. He knows heâs not allowed to feel that way just because youâre best friends.
Most of the times, he canât help it.
âHeâs a real gentleman and he said he was into me. ME. Everyone would throw themselves at him but he came up to me and I flat out rejected him. What the hell is wrong with me?!â
Youâre rolling on your bed, whining and kicking at the air. âI tried not to think about it but⊠it was just a date? Even if I didnât end up dating him at least I could tell my grandchildren that I went on a date with Jung Jaehyun!â
âIs he really that great?â Hyunjin asks, out of curiosity but laced with jealousy he hopes you canât see. His words sound distant to his own ears, triggering his fear of losing you.
âYeah, I guess?â
You nudge his legs when he doesnât respond. âHow about you? Everythingâs fine? You donât look happy thesedays.â
Hyunjin never lies to you. You have a full access to his heart; he lets you in on his happiest days when life feels like the shiniest summer. He also lets you in even after the messiest thunderstorm when he feels that everything is fucked up. This time, he wants to lock you out. Thereâs nothing to see, thereâs nothing to fix.
His heart is emptyâhe is empty, and he wants to protect you from the bleakness of it.
âIâm fine, just been arguing with Felix and Minho hyung over the song weâll perform. It feels too monotone for me, but they think itâs perfect,â he explains, not completely lying. âI donât know if Iâm being selfish but somehow I just canât let it go.â
âHave you tried explaining to them? Not how you feel, but how the song is. You can always go technical, you donât need to worry just because Minho is more experienced.â
Hyunjin sighs. âI did, but probably itâs just me.â
âDo you wanna talk things out?â You yawn, squishing Gureum into your chest. âOr do you want to just sleep?â
He glances at the clock. âWe both need sleep. Itâs almost 3A.M.â
âAlright. Good nightâI mean good morning!â
Hyunjin stretches his neck to look at you, your eyes are already closed. He relaxes his body and tries to sleep, but his jumbled mind keeps him awake. Hyunjin waits until youâre fast asleep before scooting closer, softly taking your hand in his before closing his eyes once again. He did it a lot when he was younger, holding your hand until he fell asleep. You nagged at him because it woke you up, but you never told him to stop doing it.
Tonight is no different.
âHyunjin?â
âSorry.â
You turn to him, âItâs okay.â
He mumbles a thank you, ready to go to sleep when you move to the mattress. Hyunjin gulps at the close proximity, itâs been too long since you slept on the same bed as him.
âHyunjin, I missed you.â
Hyunjin heard a theory somewhere: 3.A.M-conversations are the most honest. Itâs a little over 3A.M now, and he doesnât how much of that theory is true, but your words fuel something deep within him. The feeling so strong he has to tear his gaze away from you. Hyunjin slowly pulls you into his arms, patting your back in rhythm with the clock.
He grazes his lips on your shoulder, mouthing his reply quietly, âI missed you too.â
You nod against his chest, pulling your hand out of his grasp so you could circle your arms around his torso.
Hyunjin falls asleep almost immediately, succumbing to the warmth and comfort you radiate.
Heâs going to be alright.
âDo you think Iâll ever debut?â
Hyunjin takes off his SOPA jacket, plopping onto the bed while youâre munching on a pack of jelly. âLet me sleep for 10 minutes. I have to go to the company after this.â
You slap his thigh. âWhy do you always sleep in my room? If I got a dollar everytime you sabotage my bed Iâd be really rich now. Get out, you have practice!â
He reaches for your knee, using it as a pillow. Hyunjin feels you soften as you card your hand through his hair. âIs it hard? Are those mean hyungs still bothering you?â
Hyunjin shakes his head. âChangbin hyung told those motherfuckers to mind their own business.â
âStop cursing!â you hiss. âItâs not cool, and what if you accidentally curse on broadcast later? You have so much to learnâŠâ
Hyunjin opens his eyes and smiles when he meets your gaze. âDo you think Iâll ever debut?â he repeats his question.
âHave you seen yourself dancing? Youâre better than most of the trainees I saw at the open showcase. Plus you have so many girls screaming your name. No offense, but that is definitely a plus point.â
You give his head a little smack when you notice doubt flashing through his orbs. âI believe in you, Hyunjin. Donât doubt yourself,â you tell him softly. âAnd if you need someone to give those âmotherfuckersâ a lesson, just call me. I know some people who can shut them up.â
He lets out an obnoxious gasp. âAre you a gangster now?! Your parents are going to be so disappointed in you. Looks like you have to say goodbye to medical school nowâŠâ
You sigh, now itâs your turn to look at Hyunjin with doubt in your eyes. âIâll get in, right? What if I flunk my results later?â
âThis is why I hate smart people,â he bemoans. âYou rank first in the whole school, stop saying nonsense.â
Both of you a few more minutes lying in silence. When he waves you goodbye, Hyunjin feels like he can soar.
Heâs safe with you, and youâre safe with him.
âHwang Hyunjin, get off me!â
Hyunjin wakes up to you trying to untangle your legs from his. He catches your flailing legs, removing his before examining your face. âItâs almost noon. Arenât you running late?â you pester, pointing at the clock.
âLunch?â he asks.
This is supposed to be awkward. Hyunjin canât recall what happened a few hours ago before blushingâheâs never been that intimate with you before. You two have had a fair share of platonic cuddle sessions, but last night felt different.
âNot yet,â you mutter. âI just woke up. Oh God my back hurts.â
He wants to know whether you feel the same, but youâve made your way to the bathroom before he could ask anything. âWhat do you want to eat?â you yell, almost incoherently due to the toothpaste in your mouth.
âYouâre not going to shower?â Hyunjin playfully shrieks.
âItâs my day off!â
âMy mom mustâve cooked something. Gimme 10 minutes.â
Although heâs done this at least a hundred times, itâs still hard for Hyunjin to leave home. Seeing his heâs never able to stop his heart getting heavier at the sight of bidding his family goodbye until God knows when.
âPlease come home more Y/N,â his mother asks you, raising her eyebrow. âHyunjin seems to randomly pop up whenever youâre here, so please, come home more.â
You smack his back loudly, causing him to let out a choked groan. âIâll teach him a lesson, donât worry.â
Hyunjin gives his mother a sheepish smile, knowing all too well what she meant. He pulls you out before she starts grilling him for information, yelling one last goodbye before closing the door. You search for something inside your bag, stopping him from pressing the elevator button.
âYou left something?â
âMy dorm key,â you answer, walking back to your own unit. âYou should just go,â you say. âItâs in the middle of the day anyways, we shouldnât be seen together.â
Hyunjin follows you inside, watching you rummage through one of the buffet drawers. He notices how your shoulders are slumped and the way your eyebrows furrow. As his mind wanders to last night once again, you jab at his stomach lightly. âHey, youâre spacing out.â
âOh,â is all Hyunjin can say. He takes a good look of you, something he always does before he parts ways with you. Before he can stop himself, Hyunjin has wrapped his arms around you, letting you hear his erratic heartbeat. He still misses you, even after spending the whole night together.
Eventually, you pull away. âIâll go first.â You ruffle his head. âSee you when I see you?â
âSee you soon,â he corrects you.
You smile, taking your bag from the floor and when he blinks, youâre gone.
Hyunjin still misses you now, even when you were just in his embrace a few minutes ago, burying your head into the crook of his neck. The empty space in his heart seems to expand whenever he thinks about you.
It hurts.
Minho ends the dance practice and everyone collapses on the floor the moment the music stops playing. Hyunjin immediately restarts the discussion they had before practice started.
âWe used to sing both Grow Up and You Can Stay, why do we have to choose one now?â he demands while all of them are sprawled on the floor. âOur fans miss it too, I think itâs the perfect chance to bring it back.â
Chan takes a deep breath, nodding at Hyunjin. âI canât see why not,â he says with a chuckle. âI donât even remember why we abandoned it in the first place.â
Hyunjin does, and he knows Chan does too. It was simple, really. The song that once gave them comfort turned into this big monster made out of their worst nightmares. Each member had cried to the song during some of their concerts, and now performing it in front of everyone always brings back the painful memories.
âYeah, we should sing it again,â Felix adds, kicking Jisungâs leg so the latter would sit up and voice out his opinion. âWell.â Jisung scratches the back of his head, âIâm cool with it.â
The rest of the group mumbles similar answers and Chan claps, giving Hyunjin a thumbs up. âHyunjinnie is all grown up,â he praises before gathering his things and leaves. Hyunjin snorts at the leaderâs compliment, but his sparkly eyes canât fool anyone.
He pulls out his phone to relay the happy news to you, but the sparks in his eyes quickly fade when his messages from hours ago are still unread.
âWhat time are we leaving tomorrow?â he asks.
Seungmin checks his phone. â5A.M.â
Hyunjin wipes his sweat, chugging his water. Their American tour starts in a few days, and while heâs ecstatic because theyâll be performing at LA Staples Center for the first time, he also feels uneasy.
He takes out his phone, opening his contacts and stops when he sees your name. He stares at the number he remembers by heart.
âYou okay?â Seungmin asks. âIf youâre worried about District 9âs formation change, donât. You nailed it today.â
âDistrict 9âŠâ Hyunjin trails off. âWeâre getting too old for District 9.â
Jeongin grunts in agreement. âWhenever we finish my head always spins for like a minute. Itâs been too long.â
âYah,â Seungmin scolds him. âYou need to get it checked. What if thereâs something wrong with your head?â
The youngest does an exaggerated head banging, earning a kick from the puppy-like boy. Hyunjin chuckles at the twoâs antics; some things never really change, and heâs grateful that this is one of those things.
Seungmin throws a playful punch at Jeonginâs stomach one last time before focusing his gaze back on Hyunjin. âSeriously though, did something happen?â
Hyunjinâs brain has a lot of template answers to questions like this, but the clichĂ© words on tip of his tongue feel burning. His friends wait patiently as he fumbles for words, blinking his tears away when he fails to find the right words.
âI donât even know if thereâs anything,â he finally concludes. âItâs justâever since Bonsang, itâs been hard. Itâs been⊠nothing. Empty.â
Seungmin and Jeongin only nod, as if they understand how he feels. They probably do, Hyunjin thinks. Maybe heâs not the only one. Maybe all of his members have experienced it at some point, although at different times. Hyunjin feels slightly relieved at the thought. Iâm not insane.
When he was a trainee, he thought everything would be fine once he debuted. It was, to some extent. But he was young and naĂŻve, and when things beyond his control happened, Hyunjin barely managed to stay afloat. People told him how to handle stress, how to voice out his concerns, how to manage his body, mind and soul. He knew how to survive, theoretically.
No one actually taught him nor the other boys, and for an 18 year-old boy, feelings got intense quickly. After some trials and errors, everyone figured that it was best not to bottle up their feelings. Once again, it sounded easy in theory. In reality, with so many things happening at once, most of them eventually created a space in their own heads to seal everything in. They endured.
Jeongin looks at him with hesitation, rubbing his hands together. âIt happens,â he reassures him. âItâs okay to worry about it, hyung. But worry about it with me, please!â Jeongin raises his tone. âYou can barge into my room anytime. You can annoy the hell out of me, but stop suffering alone, will you?!â
Seungmin canât miss the chance to tease the maknae. âSays the one who cried alone all night long in the bathtub after losing his voice.â
âIf I hadnât found you, you wouldâve passed out,â Hyunjin adds. Jeongin lifts his hands in defeat. âWhatever. But I meant what I said.â
âOur Jeongin is so dependable,â Hyunjin coos.
âYou say that all the time.â Jeongin rolls his eyes. âAnd then still baby me.â
Seungmin takes Hyunjinâs phone from the floor, passing it to the owner. âCall Y/N.â
Hyunjin panics a little. âWhy?â
Seungmin shrugs. âBetter days start after meeting the person you want to see the most!â
âSpeaking of you and Y/N,â Jeongin quips. âYou guys arenât in high school anymore, stop flirting with each other and date already.â
Hyunjin gets a surge of bravery and dials your number, but immediately regrets his decision with each passing minute. He almost ends the call when you finally answer. âHyunjin?â
âH-hi,â he stammers. âBusy?â
âKind of... What? What happened?â
âCan we meet? I only need a couple of minutes. Youâre in Seoul, right?â
âI am. Hyunjin, whatâs going on? Youâre scaring me.â
Itâs scaring me too.
âI want to tell you in person. Where are you? Iâll come to you.â
Hyunjin isnât sure when the lines between best friends and something more started to get blurry. The worse thing is, he realized it way too late and things got complicated before he could do anything about it.
âItâs too late to back out,â he mouths to himself while opening the stairwell door in the hospital youâre currently at. Youâre sitting on one of the steps, dozing off as your head hits the wall every now and then.
Hyunjin runs his hand through his hair, guilt consuming him. He sits beside you, pulling your head to his right shoulder. The two of you always attended the same school until high school, when he decided to enroll in SOPA instead of a regular school. Since then, he never really knows whatâs going on in your life. You told him about your close friends, the small fights, medical studentsâ inside jokes, the good looking boys, all the knowledge and experiences youâre grateful for despite the never-ending suffering and constant lack of sleep. You told him everything, but heâs never actually seen you in your world.
Youâve seen enough of his worldâyouâve gone to his concerts, awards shows, even fansigns (as a prank because you wanted to see him getting all flustered while pretending not to know you). Hyunjin never has the time or makes an effort to do the same, and while itâs completely understandable due to the nature of his job, he feels like heâs going to lose you.
As he brushes your hair out of your face, Hyunjin asks himself whether heâs good enough for you.
âWhoa,â you suddenly whisper, straightening your body. âDid I fall asleep?â
Hyunjin stops you from getting up. âYou must be tired.â
âSo are you.â You remove his hand from your head. âSo tell me. Whatâs going on?â
Youâre here, sitting beside him, only wanting truth to come out of his mouth. Hyunjin bites his lip, the urge to just let go is eating him up, his soul begging him to get some answers. The familiar hollowness is back, and tears start to roll down his cheeks.
This isnât the first time he cries in front of you, so you just pat his head, waiting for the tears to stop. âIâm sorry,â he groans. âIâm so sorry Y/N.â
You lift his head, eyes looking straight into his. âWhat for?â you mutter. âHyunjin, please tell me.â
Hyunjin makes a silent plead at himself to toughen up, but itâs hard when youâre staring at him like this, wide eyes filled with raw concern and sincerity that never fail to touch the deepest part of his heart. âHmm?â you prompt, still patting his head ever so softly.
âItâs been hard,â Hyunjin sniffles. âItâs hard to look forward to the future. I feel restless all the time. I have nothing to fight for. ItâsâŠ,â He makes gestures with his hand in attempt to explain it better. â⊠empty.â
You wipe his tears with the sleeve of your white coat. âDo you know why you feel that way?â
Hyunjin nods. âWeâre doing well, we really are⊠and thatâs probably why. Everything is going too well I donât know what thrills me anymore. I thought Iâd feel content once I reached all of my dreams, but thatâs not the case.â
He examines your face, rehearsing the next lines in his head again and again. You cock an eyebrow, encouraging him to continue. And the last bit of Hyunjinâs defense crumbles with every blink of your pretty eyes.
âAnd you⊠I miss you all the time. Even when youâre right here with me, I still miss you. I have to hold back whenever Iâm with you because I donât want you to run away from me. I love you, Y/N. I donât know when it all started but maybe Iâve always loved you and it hurts me not being able to tell you that. The emptiness⊠it gets worse whenever you tell me we shouldnât be seen together or that you have to go or when you have other boys like Jaehyun who are clearly better for you than I am because they can be there for you. I love you so bad you donât know how hard it is to go through days without you, without kissing you good night, without hearing you laugh for me. I keep thinking, âwhat if youâre suddenly gone?â Maybe youâll leave me someday, maybe youâll tell me that you canât be my friend anymore, but I need you, Y/N. I love you and I need you here with me to keep going. Iââ
Hyunjin watches you slowlyâvery slowlyâretract your hand from his head as words fail him, and he feels as if his guts are being hammered to pieces. He canât read your eyes, canât even try to define what your gaze means.
You eventually stand up, pulling him up with you. âIâm not the answer, Hyunjin,â you mutter. âYou canât expect that youâll never feel empty again once I say that I accept your feelings. Itâs justâitâs not fair. This isnât just about us not being together.â
âButââ
âI know,â you cut him off, your body start shaking due to all the tension. âI know. Thatâs how you feel, and I canât dictate you what to feel and not to feel. Think about it like thisâŠâ
You pause to check if heâs still listening to you. He nods, weakly.
â⊠you spent years working your ass off to get recognition from everyone, and you did it. Donât ever forget that, Iâm begging you. So all of your dreams have come true and you feel lost now⊠itâs okay. You have a lot of time, Hyunjin. You can always have a new dream, you can have a thousand more. Donât make me the answer to everything just because you havenât found any other answer.â
You wait for him to respond, but Hyunjin is frozen to his spot. His world is now upside down, and he doesnât know how long it will take to fix everything.
Your phone rings, snapping him out of his trance. You look at him apologetically. âI have to go.â Those damn words again. âAsk Seungmin to help you ice your face, you donât want to show up at the airport with swollen eyes, do you? Call me before you take off, okay? Hyunjin?â
He can only nod, trying his best to give you the most reassuring smile. He feels everything all at once: shock, shame, sadness⊠but mostly regret because youâre right.
You always are.
âHave fun on tour! Send me all the photos you take!â
Now itâs turn for Hyunjinâs phone to ring as you make your way out, leaving him alone. Heâs about to press the green button when the door opens once again. Hyunjin lets his phone ring, watching you fidget with your hands.
Heâs still pretty much tongue-tied, but forces himself to ask, âDid you ever⊠love me? As more than friends?â
To his surprise, you take quick steps towards him, tiptoeing to press your lips on his. Your eyes are closed, your hands are tied to your sides and it takes Hyunjin his whole willpower to refrain himself from pulling your body closer, wrapping his arms around you and kissing the life out of you. He closes his eyes and just stands there, accepting whatever youâre willing to give him because thereâs nothing he yearns more than your love and trust.
Hyunjin almost whines when you pull away with red cheeks and teary eyes. âCome back to me when youâre ready. Iâll wait for you. Only you.â
Itâs Hyunjinâs 10th (or 11th? He canât really remember) visit to New York, but heâs still as excited as a kid with his lollipop. After years of traveling from country to country, Hyunjin realizes that he just doesnât get bored, ever. Each place holds a special memory he keeps close to his heart, something sentimental that motivates him to go back every chance he gets.
âStand there,â he motions at Seungminâthe only one whoâs willing to accompany him walking around the Empire State Building for the nth timeâto stand at the spot he points at. Seungmin follows his instruction, smiling when Hyunjin starts counting. They examine the result and Seungmin shoves his leg. âI guess you finally learned something.â
Hyunjin feigns hurt, setting his cameraâs focus on a group of kids, holding his breath before pressing the shutter. âAs if you taught me anything.â
He glances at his bandmate whoâs busy taking photos with his own camera. Photo hunting with Seungmin is always in Hyunjinâs âlimited free timeâ itinerary. Theyâve strolled around so many cities together, sometimes it takes the whole day if time allows them. Strangely, Seungmin never gets bored of it either and although itâs no surprise since he loves photography more than anything else, Hyunjin is grateful.
âYou never say no whenever I ask you to take photos with me,â Hyunjin states. âWhy?â
Seungmin frowns. âWhat kind of question is that?â
âJust wondering,â Hyunjin mumbles. âWe do pretty much the same thing everytime. Sometimes I force you to go to the places weâve been to⊠donât you get bored?â
âItâs always different everytime, I thought thatâs why sometimes you take photos at the same place? Itâs never exactly the same, donât you think?â
Hyunjin goes through the photos he took in New York last year, smiling at some of them as he recalls the funny anecdotes behind them. When he slips his phone back into his jeans pocket and lets his eyes wander⊠yes, nothing is exactly the same.
âYou truly are a photographer. Whenâs your next exhibition, Photographer Kim?â
Seungmin snaps his finger. âAh! Exhibition! I forgot to ask you, why donât we held a joint exhibition this time?â
âYou want to show your photos along with my photos?â
âWhy not? Yours are amazing too! And youâre my best friend, itâll be fun.â
Hyunjin imagines having his photo framed on the wall. Small placards pinned underneath, containing the words he constructs to explain each of them. The fans will come to feel how it feels like to be here behind the lens. Maybe people who donât even know him will come too, and get a chance to actually know him.
He reaches his phone to relay the idea to you, smiling to himself when he finds messages from you instead.
y/n: [sends a picture]
y/n: ahreum finally woke up today! isnt she pretty?
me: everyone is prettier than you
me: you must be happy!!
y/n: ??????
y/n: oh. she asked me to recommend boygroup songs
y/n: i made her listen to every single skz song
y/n: and your solo songs!!!!
me: awwwwwww
me: and you cant be doing this for free right?
âIs that your best friend slash girlfriend?â Seungmin is suddenly standing behind him, reading over his shoulder. âYou guys are so cute itâs making me feel sick.â
Hyunjin sighs, gazing at the busy street upon him. âWeâre not dating. At least not yet.â
âWhat happened? Just realized that I never really asked.â
âShe asked me to come to her when Iâm ready.â
Seungmin looks at him quizzically, but decides not to press him further. âAre you ready now?â
Theyâre flying back to Seoul next week, and while he thought he wouldnât be able to enjoy the tour, he truly did. He thinks of all the good things that have happened: the sold out shows, the happy tears, his improvement, the upcoming exhibition with Seungmin, and lastly, youâthe one whoâs patiently waiting for him.
There have been a lot of times when Hyunjin feels like heâs everywhere but nowhere at the same time. It sounds scary, but now he realizes that he only needs to admit that heâs indeed everywhere, but never nowhere.
âAlmost.â
The instrumental of Grow Up starts to play and all the boys rush back to their designated positions. The atmosphere turns a bit more sentimental as the bridge approaches, theyâre just looking at each other while Minho is singing his part. In the past, they often teased each other during this very part, afraid that they would break down if they let their emotions overtake them. Hyunjin averts his gaze to the audience, watching the beautiful color of their lightsticks light up the huge stadium. As he gestures at some of the fans to stop crying, Hyunjin thanks himself for convincing the others to add the song back to their setlist.
The song comes to an end, and Chan gathers everyone to make a circle. Hyunjin feels pats on his head and back, Chanâs voice drowned by the fans who are still singing. He canât resist the urge to turn around, so he does just that, and what he wonât trade what he sees for anything.
Their fans are standing there, eyes focused on everyone on stage as they sing each syllable perfectly. Changbin follows his gaze, and soon all of them are facing the audience again, listening to every wish, every hope, and every message relayed through the lyrics of the song.
Hyunjin lifts his mic, eyes darting to Chan who gives him a nod of approval. âThank you,â he begins. âThis is our last stop for this tour, and I canât be any prouder and thankful to all of you.â
He lets the translator translate his speech before continuing, âI had a lot of worries before the tour started. I honestly thought I wouldnât be able to go through everything.â
âYou made our dreams come true,â Hyunjin continues. âYou made my dreams come true and I naively thought that was the end of everything. But I learned a lot during this tour, and once again, you made this happen. All the pretty words you told us, they mean a lot. They always will. I realized that this will always be my dream, no matter how many times this has come true. I want to make you, who stay with us throughout everything, happy. I want to be here for a very long time. I want to be with you, to be with the members and our family, for a very long time.â
He stops when he feels he canât continue anymore, letting the others take the spotlight. He gives each of his bandmates with a loving gaze, stopping at Minho who lets tears roll down his cheeks this time. Jeongin is giggling beside him, walking over to wrap the tsundere hyung in a firm hug.
Hyunjin thinks theyâve really come a long way.
Being back home usually gives Hyunjin a peace of mind, but when he sees no notification on his phone, he feels weird. He dials his motherâs number, his heart grows even more anxious when she picks up.
âOh Hyunjin-ah, did you just land?â
âYeah.â
âCan you come over here? Or do you have an important schedule?â
âNo, we get 2 days off. Whatâs going on?â
âY/Nâs sister passed away. Sorry we didnât tell you sooner, we didnât want you to panic.â
âEomma! How could you?â
âIâm sorry. This is Y/Nâs request as well. Sheâs been here for 2 days and no one can make her eat anything. Can you take her home?â
âIâll be there soon.â
âYouâre going to live in Germany! Youâre such a lucky kid!â
The little girl smiles bashfully as you pout at her. âThe luckiest girl on Earth,â you add, fixing her messy hair.
âIf youâre so jealous of me, why donât you come along?â
âAre you kidding?â you exclaim. âIâm on my way to be the greatest doctor in this country. You canât change my mind.â
âAlright, itâs time to go,â your father interrupts, giving you one last hug before whispering things into your ear. Hyunjin steps back to allow you say goodbye to your family, tearing up at the painful sight. Your father, a doctor, accepts an offer to work in a hospital in Germany and takes the whole family with him since your sick little sister needs more intensive treatment.
But youâre staying to become a great doctor like your father, hoping youâll get a chance to cure your sister later.
âPlease take care of her, Hyunjin. We trust you,â your mother tells him. Hyunjin nods, enveloping your hand in his. âDonât worry, Iâll be here monitoring her every move and drag her back home whenever she spends too much time at the academy.â
Your sister laughs, bowing to Hyunjin. âI also want a boyfriend like Hyunjinoppa! Please take care of our unnie.â
You yank your hand away from him. âHeâs not my boyfriend!â
Hyunjin seems unbothered by your statement, bowing to your family to annoy you more. âOur family will take care of her, you can trust us.â
Your sisterâs smiling face greets Hyunjin as he enters the funeral home. He stares at the photo then closes his eyes to pray, whispering strings of apologies thatâs always too late. Iâm sorry I never visited you. Iâm sorry I failed to take care of your sister. Iâm sorry I didnât call you enough.
He bows to your family, the first bow since years ago, and he wishes he could turn back time. Hyunjin turns to you, gazing into your tired eyes. Your mother pulls him towards you. âShe hasnât eaten at all. Can you please bring her home, Hyunjin? I hope youâre not too busy. Iâm sorry that we meet like this.â
âHyunjin just landed in Seoul. How could you force him to come here?â you snap, returning his gaze. âGo home. Iâll call you later.â
Hyunjin almost yells in frustration, but swallows everything before dragging you out, only tightening his grip on your wrist when you try to pry his hand off of you. You keep shouting at him, yelling at him to stop, but Hyunjin doesnât budge. He drags you all the way to his car, opening the passenger door for you.
âGet in the car, Y/N.â
Without waiting for you to move, he lifts your body and sits you down, fastening your seatbelt. âPlease donât push me away,â he pleads. âWhy do you always tell me go home, go back to practice, to leave⊠why?! I promised your parents to take care of you. I promised your sister, why arenât you letting me do that?!â
âI never asked you to do that,â you mutter through gritted teeth, causing Hyunjin to grip your shoulders.
âYou only said that to hurt me,â he replies. âEven now youâre still trying to push me away. I want to be here Y/N. Donât you want me here?â
You avoid his eyes, keeping your gaze on your clasped hands. âTell me,â Hyunjin challenges. âTell me that you donât want me to stay with you, and Iâll leave.â
He waits for you to respond, letting out a relieved sigh he doesnât bother hiding when you shake your head. âWant you here. Thank you.â
âHave you cried?â
After your sister was born, you were told not to shed tears in front of her. Your parents always scolded you if you started crying when you saw her in pain, and after some time, it became a habit. A habit that Hyunjin absolutely despises since it makes you suppress your feelings, as if punishing you for having feelings.
âI donât know⊠maybe I havenât.â
âYou lost your sister, you can cry. Your parents cried a lot too, itâs fine.â
You nod, resting your head in the crook of his neck when tears start to well up. Hyunjin presses a kiss on your temple, finding himself tearing up the moment you start sobbing, something he has never witnessed although heâs known you for almost his whole life.
âIs this your Armani suit?â you manage to voice in the middle of sobs and snorts. He takes you into his embrace, chuckling, âYes, but you can ruin it however you want. Another privilege as my best friend.â
âCan I abuse this privilege?â
âRuining my expensive suits?â
âNo,â you laugh airily. âCrying when youâre with me.â
Hyunjin cups your wet cheeks, gently pushing your hands away when you want to wipe your tears away. âAnytime. You can cry, laugh, curse, get angry, get drunk⊠you can do anything when youâre with me.â
And thatâs all it takes before you start sobbing into his suit again. Hyunjin is standing there for the longest time, sandwiched by the passenger seat and door of his car with you in his arms. He doesnât care, he will do it all over again, and he will do much more. For you, and only you.
âWhere are you? Itâs past midnight already!â
âHwang Hyunjin, youâre lucky Iâm willing to go home when I have a morning shift tomorrow,â you scold him over the phone.
âItâs my birthday! Wait, it isnât even my birthday anymore!â he whines in an obnoxious tone that never fails to upset you. He giggles when he hears you huff, the sound of the elevator signaling that youâve already arrived.
âYou asked me to buy you a cake right before I left,â you hiss. âNow open the door, Iâm outside.â
The call ends and Hyunjin rushes to the door. Youâre carrying the red velvet cake he requested, the candles already lit and Hyunjin tries not to melt at the way you look at him. He did ask you to buy him a cake and âsurpriseâ him at your apartment, but he is nowhere near ready to see you like this: all smiley and cheery for him despite sounding annoyed over the phone.
âHappy birthday,â you sing song, your smile growing wider as he blows the candle. Hyunjin returns your smile before taking the cake from you, pulling you towards your room. âGo get changed, Iâll slice the cake for you.â
A few minutes later, both of you are seated on your couch, talking about every little thing while enjoying the cake. Hyunjin tells you about Stray Kidsâ upcoming comeback, a very special one since Minho choreographed the title track. You tell him about various cases that happened in the hospital while wondering if youâll ever finish medical school and actually be a doctor.
Everything feels the way Hyunjin expects it to be, until you put your empty plate on the table and look at him straight in the eyes. âHyunjinâŠâ
He quickly swallows and places his plate on the table as well, never breaking eye contact with you. âWhat?â
You gulp. âDo you remember when I asked you to come find me when youâre ready?â
âFeels like yesterday.â
âWell,â you murmur. âIâm just wondering if youâre⊠ready.â
Fire lights up in his stomach, and before you can continue, Hyunjin is already trapping you between his body and the couch. âI am,â he says. âAre you?â
You brush his fringe with your fingers. âYou were waiting for me?â
âYou told me to start dreaming again, so I did,â Hyunjin recalls. âAnd I realized that all of my dreams are right in front of meâyou, my family, the hyungs, Jeongin, the fans⊠keeping you guys with me is something Iâll always dream of although all of you are already here.â
You pout at him, but Hyunjin doesnât miss the proud gleam in your eyes. âThen whatâs taking you so long?â
He pinches your nose. âI waited for you to be ready, as you said before, it wasnât just about us being together. I donât want you to choose me only because you feel like you need me. I want you to⊠want me⊠to love me with a clear head. Just like what you wanted me to do. I want to give you the world, but only if you allow me to.â
You circle your arms around his neck, sighing happily, âYou gave me the world, Hyunjin. You listen to me, you console me, you give me a shoulder to cry on. Youâre the only one Iâve ever waited for, and Iâm so glad that you came back to me.â
Hyunjin is sure that his whole system has stopped working, the words you just uttered feel like the strongest, yet the sweetest liquor heâs ever tasted. He is drunk on the love you offer; heâs drunk on your touch, your smile and everything you want to give him. Youâre driving him nuts, completely nuts, but itâs the only thing he wants to feel. You are the only one he yearns to feel.
You seem to sense his burning gaze and start nibbling on your bottom lip. âSo this is the part where you kiss meâŠâ
âThis is the part where I kiss youâŠâ
You shake your head. âThis feels weird. Youâre my best friend.â
âYou kissed me,â Hyunjin reminds you. âItâs not like weâve never done it before.â
âNo, butââ You pause to let yourself breathe. âI kissed you. This is different, Iâm not going to survive you kissing me.â
âFor the love of God Y/N, justââ
You point at your lips. âAnd I still have my lipgloss on!â
Hyunjin is caressing your reddening cheek now, trying to destroy the last bit of your defense. âAnd whatâs wrong with that?â he asks softly.
âItâs sticky! Our lips will get stuck and it wonât be romantic.â
âSo what do you want to do? Go into your room and wipe it off with a cotton pad or something?â
âYeah, letâs doââ
Hyunjin doesnât let you finish as he finally dives in, capturing your lips in a searing kiss that set both of you on fire. He hums when he feels your body relax in his hold, allowing him to savor you with so much longing and want. Hyunjin lets his heart take the lead, kissing you harder whenever you tug the ends of his hair and making him putty under your touch. It never feels enough, it feels like he only gets hungrier everytime you return his kiss, the feeling of your lips moving against his almost destroys him.
Nothing is stopping him now, he came back to you and you welcomed him with open arms. Hyunjin leaves one more open mouthed kiss on your lips before pulling away with a loud pop, taking in the sight of you trying to breathe. You slowly meet his eyes with flushed cheeks, eyes mirroring his own and Hyunjin tries to remember every single detail. âGod I love you so much,â he hears himself whisper.
You smile, lifting your hand to trace his face delicately. âI love you.â
âAre you mine now?â Hyunjin knows this is childish, but he wants to hear it. He longs to hear it.
Thankfully, youâre willing to play his game tonight. âOnly yours.â
âNo more mourning over Jung Jaehyun?â
âJesus Christ, do you need to stoop that low.â
âYes.â Hyunjin pecks your nose. âHe doesnât listen to K-pop, right? Introduce him to me.â
You roll your eyes. âI love you, why the hell are we talking about Jaehyun now?â
âThen what should we talk about?â
âSince weâre on a competition to ruin the mood, lemme burst your bubble: my parents are moving back in next week so we need another place to do... this.â
âOkay,â Hyunjin answers. âWhat are we gonna do now?â
You wrap your legs around his torso, making him gasp. âI donât know, kiss me again? Iâm gonna tell you this just once, but I, along with thousands of other people, have always wanted to kiss you. It made me feel pathetic, but it is what it is.â
Hyunjin blushes, but refuses to lose to you. âYou tried to make me not kiss you a few minutes ago and now youâre desperate to kiss me. Was I that good?â
âHmmm I guess so,â you hum.
He swiftly lifts your body, grinning when you tighten your hold around his neck. âWell, Iâm yours to kiss now,â he teases, trying to walk into room without knocking into things. You leave soft kisses all over his face, prompting Hyunjin to walk faster so he could just kiss you already.
When your back hit your bed, Hyunjin stops to admire your face. âI kissed you a long time ago, donât you remember?â
Your eyes widen. âYou? Kissed me? With those plush lips? When?!â
âYou donât remember? But it was our first kiss!â
You spend the next few minutes racking your brain before nodding. âAh, it did happen a long time ago.â
âItâs okay, maybe you wanted to forget that moment. It was your darkest time, and I probably shouldnât have done that.â
Shaking your head, you run your thumb along his lip. âThank you for staying with me all these years.â
Hyunjin closes the gap between you once again, hoping to chase away all the sorrow inside your soul. You pull him closer, making him practically lying on top of you, feeling your chest rise with each touch of his lips on your skin. âThank you,â a kiss on each of your eye, âfor,â a kiss on the tip of your nose, âmaking me,â a kiss on your lipsâthis time he lets it linger, âdream,â a kiss on your chin, âagain,â and a kiss on your neck.
It took Hyunjin so long to understand the world, and now he still hasnât understood even half of it. But in the middle of his journey, he met you. He learned to dream, he learned to love you.
And he learned to love himself.
The door opens with a bang, revealing an incredibly panicked Hyunjin. He just finished training when he received a call from you, who said nothing but, âI wonât let you walk home alone.â You wouldnât end the call throughout his way home, but refused to say anything else and almost making Hyunjin dash to the police station.
Hyunjin sees your shadow, letting out a small scream when he spots you lying on the floor in the dark. He runs to you, about to carry you back into your room when you stop him. âI feel like crying,â you rasp, choking on your saliva. âI canât stop it.â
Itâs been a month since your family left, and while youâre trying your best to be a big girl and live the way you always do, itâs not easy. Hyunjin lies beside you, eyes locked on the tears rolling down your cheeks. You never cry loudly. You never sob nor wail. You just cry silently, mostly in the dark so you canât see yourself crying.
Hyunjin takes your hand in his, hovering over you before tracing your tears with his lips as if it can stop them. He pecks every wet spot, slowly getting to your lips. He leaves a chaste, barely-there kiss before wrapping his arms around you, whispering comforting things until you start falling asleep on the hard floor.
Hyunjin hopes youâll allow yourself to cry however you wish to someday.
a/n: i was so happy writing this that i almost cried when i finished because i know iâm going to miss writing this one. this story feels so sentimental, happy and sad at the same time and probably thatâs why i feel so attached to it. ive wanted to write this since last year, even before âgive my heart a chanceâ. i always wondered what would happen after we reach our dreams and i hope youâll feel a little better after reading this (especially if youâre experiencing the same thing). this story is a long journey, but i hope youâll enjoy it.Â
