hey, word of advice to throw into the void
if somebody opens up to you about a conflict that they have, specifically if they open up to you about there being something that they yearn for but know they can't have, and they talk about how their religion is a factor in the 'can't have' aspect, and they open up to you about how they cope with that struggle of something vitally important to them being what bars them from this desire they have
"well, you never know, one day you might stop following your religion! ^_^" IS NOT A CORRECT RESPONSE!!!!
#AAAAAAAAAAA-#I did not really have time to process my emotions about that response at the time#I kinda just launched into 'that is NOT a possibility and HERE'S WHY [justified religious feelings vomit]'#and it didn't turn into a fight or anything everything stayed civil and my point was understood#but I've had time to think about it now and. That was NOT OKAY#THAT WAS RUDE AND INAPPROPRIATE#Like. Imagine if you said 'yeah I really love cats and really really want one but my spouse is allergic so we can't have one'#and the response you got was 'don't give up hope! Maybe someday you'll get a divorce! :D'#THAT'S WHAT IT FELT LIKE

If you've seen the 2018 Bumblebee, could you do Bumblebee's reaction to his s/o being scared of him after seeing him get angry and his eyes turn red in that one scene where he fights those army soldiers and shoots everything. After Bumblebee turns back to normal, and reaches for them, His s/o backs away from him out of fear not wanting to go near him and runs away. ( temporarily from being scared and needs to collect themselves) how would Bumblebee react to seeing them be afraid of him?
I love scary Bee... he is scary and that's kinda hot... I wrote headcanons and also a fic that is under the read more!! Reader is GN!!
Bumblebee... Is devastated!
He didn't want to scare you... he was worried you were going to die and ew can't have that!
When he reverts to normal and grabs for you and you flinch back... Oh boy does he realize what he's done.
When he sees you running away his spark stops.
You're freaking out, wondering what went wrong (military found you, that's what went wrong...) and then see Bee crouched a little ways from you.
He is so willing to do literally whatever to make you feel better.
He reaches for you again, and you reach for him this time.
Never wants to make you this upset again. The absolute fear in your eyes?? Never wants to be the cause of that again.
When you get inside his alt mode, he will let you talk about what happened. He lets you vent and tell him how you felt. So receptive and understands why you were afraid.
Genuinely so sweet and tries his best to make you feel better.
-_-_-_-_-_-
âItâs okay!â You reassured the military surrounding you. âHe isnât going to hurt anyone!â
Your arms were up and you were trying to be calm. Your voice cracks were giving away your fear.
âStep away from the robot!â One of the men shouted.
You didnât budge. Instead, you stood there motionless. Fear had kicked in fully, and instead of running or fighting⊠you were frozen. Your eyes widened even more when you noticed them closing in on you.
You were snatched up from in front of Bee, who was still being polite and quiet. Like you had asked of him in case anything like this were to ever happen.
âRemember, my love,â You would point up at him, âIf anything ever happens, we have to stay civil! I donât want something happening to youâŠâ
So, he would be civil. For now.
You struggled slightly, your head turning towards Bee. When you saw other soldiers pulling out weird rods, you were growing panicked.
âNo!â You screamed, âI promise! He isnât hurting anything- He wonât hurt anything!â
As soon as the words left your mouth, the soldiers began to electrocute him. A scream ripped from your throat, and your struggling became more violent. You kicked and screamed and your foot hit hard against the soldier's shin. Suddenly, you were flung from the soldierâs arms and you hit the ground hard.
You let out a loud cry and looked over at Bee, who was being held down by the soldiers. You looked back up at the soldier who had been holding you down, and noticed he had something in his hand. A taser.
âFuck.â
Briefly, you were unable to move. You were processing and it wasnât computing. When the soldier was over you, fight or flight really hit, and you were fighting. Violently. You grabbed the soldier's wrist and tried to redirect his hand. Your knuckles were white in an instant and you felt like you were fighting for your life.
âPlease!â You screamed, hoping he would hear you over all the commotion, âWe were just hanging out in the desert!â
When the soldier grabbed your wrist with his free hand and broke your grip, you were sent into a bigger panic. You began to wail. You were pleading for release. For the military to leave you alone. And then, Beeâs name left your mouth. A loud, unmistakable shriek for Bee. For your boyfriend.
Thatâs all it took.
Your eyes shut tight, and you waited for the taser to hit your side. The shouting around you turned into screams of terror and suddenly you couldnât hear the loud cracking of electricity anymore. You swallowed hard and when the soldier above you yelled, you opened your eyes and saw the soldier was gone, and Bee was standing over you. His gun pointed at the military and his stance was firm. Your eyes met his, and your stomach turned.
His optics were red and his brow ridges were furrowed. He was pissed. With good reason. And, you were terrified. Also with good reason.
âBeeâŠâ Your voice was soft, barely above a whisper.
He did not listen. He began to blast the soldiers surrounding the two of you. Their vehicles became caught in the crossfire. Bee moved himself over you and became a shield between you and the soldiers. They were dying, their vehicles were bursting into flames, and all you could do was think âItâs okay! He isnât going to hurt anyone!â.
âBee!â Your voice was louder now. But he was still shooting. Shooting at soldiers who were definitely retreating at that point.
âBumblebee! Stop!â
Your voice was sharp. It was loud and full of command. Bee came to a halt. The remaining soldiers got into the remaining vehicles and promptly left. You stood up, your gut wrenching and your legs barely holding you.
Bee turned towards you, optics still red. You blinked up at him. And briefly wondered if he, your cute alien robot boyfriend, was about to murder you. His optics go back to blue and you take a step back. He leaned down and began to reach for you.
Once you flinched back, Bee did too. He retracted his servo and cocked his head at you. Adrenaline was still going strong, and fight or flight was still kicking, and you were not about to fight Bee.
You took off running in the opposite direction. The desert really didnât have too many safe places to hide, but you did find a large rock. You pulled out your phone, a special one Optimus had made for you. You could reach the bots at any given time.
âOptimus!â Your voice was hushed, and you were trembling. âPlease! The military found us! I donât-â
The sound of metal beside you caught your attention and you gulped. Bumblebee was a few feet from you. He wanted to give you space, but he wanted to be close so badly. He was crouched down and his optics watched you closely. They were still blue.
âIs everything alright?â Optimusâ voice came through the phone.
You wanted to say no, instead you hung and looked at Bee. Your back was against the rock. Your breath caught in your throat, and suddenly you couldn't swallow. You knew deep down Bee was not going to hurt you, but watching him fire at those men, that was fear inducing. Watching him become someone you didn't know was terrifying.
âI- Wonât hurt you.â Bee switched through his radio channels to talk to you.
He reached out for you, once more, his movements slower and slightly more mindful. You inhaled sharply and reached out for his servo. Bee seemed to beam when you reached for him. He gently pulled you up, helping you stand. He was quick to dust you off, sand covered your back and butt.
âHey!â A yell came from a few yards away. You looked towards the direction the voice came from. Crosshairs⊠âWhat happened?â
You blinked a few times and looked back at Bee. âWe were trying to have a date.â
âDate doing what?â Crosshairs examined the destruction. âBlowing up military vehicles?â
Optimus and Drift rolled in behind Crosshair, quickly transforming from their alt modes.
âAre you alright?â Optimus neared you and Bee, âYou sounded scared.â
âIâm-â You paused, âWeâre okay... Thanks to Bee.â
âGlad to see you are both okay⊠Weâll need to figure this out⊠Also,â Optimus looked at you, crouching down, ânever hang up on me again.â
Bee moved himself in between the both of you and you only nodded.
âWe need to get back to Cadeâs.â
âIâll go with Bee.â You looked up at him,and he made a beeping noise, almost a chirping sound.
âObviously,â Crosshairs rolled his eyes, âyou two are-â
âShut. Up!â Drift interrupted. âI donât want to know what they do!â
Bee transformed into alt mode and his door opened. You were quick to get inside. âCan we talk about that back there? I think I need to process all of that..â

Only Friends Ep 6 Thoughts
- Starting right away with TopMew being more close then before, howver said that they thought they would be closer now after having sex was super right. Also awww Mew has two Moms. I knew there was reason he didn't mention his Dad in episode 1.
- The thing is I do believe Top when he says he is trying to better for Mew. Unfortunatly there is still this big thing he is not saying to him. - There will be no problem..... Meanwhile Ray and Boston are barely managing not to hit each other again.
- Look at Boston he is so self satisfied. Because this is just more confermation then he was right. Bastard.
- Is that... A plotline for Cheum and April???? I hope so.
- Ok I understand this is just Friendly teasing. But it is getting a bit annoying. Stop trying to get Boston to settle down. He is 22 he is allowed to be a slut if he wants to be. Why don't you focus on how much of an asshole he seems to be and not on how much he sleeps around!!!!
- I love Nick point this out to Boston but I can't help going, oh so you know that recornding someone without their permission is evil??? Nick is my baby though, I can't stay mad at him.
- BLAME IT ON SAND'S COOKIES?????? HOW DARE YOU!!!!!! Tell him baby!!!- Unfortunatly he is probably right about Nick.
- DRAKE! We were all correct in assuming he was the guy that made the recording. And we got the confirmation that Boston only cares because his father is about to become a politician. Also that look Nick gave thinking about his own recording of Boston. I bet he wants to delete it now that everything is going well for him.
- Ok I know that the fandom likes Sand's Mom, but I am usually more harsh on fictional parents then this. And dear god. You know maybe if she acted like the adult he would not be this focus on caring for everrybody else. Also is teenage life a mistranslation, because they are in their 20s.
- More Sand/Top interactions!!! Their interaction have always the same flare, Top tries to be at least fake civil Sand is not having it. And Top immidiately turns mean. I love it.
- I love that Sand decided to screw over multiple people and tell Ray about the recornding out of spite!!! I love that boy so much.
- Sand!!!! Being sneaky!!! I love him so much!!!!!!
- Also now we know why Sand and Nick fight in the trailer and Nick looks ready to move out.
- I love this interaction between Sand and Ray. It's so different then usual. I also love that Sand let Ray understand it was Nick that did it, so that it could be seen as real, but also didn't explicitly said so.
- Sand is getting revenge in this scene and I love that for him. He waited on that information, didn't say anything, it wasn't his business. But a single interaction with Top was enough for him to say fuck that, I'm gonna ruin that boy's life and fuck the consequences. I LOVE HIM!! Especially since unlike what Boston did he is going by it by telling the truth and he is not the one that did the recording so he even as the moral high ground.
- Sand deserves to be in top spot for that character ranking. He deserves it!!!!!
- Nick is meeting Boston's dad??
- Also we have seen Boston's dad before Top's parents. Does that mean Sand secret brother is Boston? Too early to tell probably.
- Oh look at baby's face fell. Boston is going to NY after graduation no wonder he cares so little of his friends. He will never seen them again. Also I knew Boston was a divorce kid. I could just tell. Then Boston goes for the kill. Why would I want a relationship. Says the guy that just told Nick he wanted to be more steady with someone. Boston learned everything from his dad uhh.
- See this the problem. The issue is not that Boston doen't want to be serious. And it is not 100% his fault that Nick got his hopes up despite all evidence pointing to not doing that. Is that Boston knows Nick has feelings for him and he likes it. He likes the fact that Nick is in love and obsessed. He wants Nick to into him. He gets off on having that power over him. He probably will end the series going to NY.
- WOW
- I am not sure what to say. Just wow. I'm in aw on the skill on display here.
- I bet Sand was not expecting Ray to blow up quite like that when he told him. He probably should have done the easier thing and told Mew directely. Also love that Sand is following after Ray with the bike to make sure he doesn't get into an accident.
- Also I love that this is causing all the couples to fight and break up even Cheum and April. I like that they have a storyline, yes even this one. Because they will probably make up. But it would have been nice if they had more scenes in the earlier episodes. Although I understand they were tight on time so there probably was not that much narrative space left for them to have more scenes in.
- Comunication!!! And forgiveness. Love to see it. They really are the healthiest couple here.
- OH SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mew to the attack!!!!!!!!! Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!! That preview. And that ending. Like damn.

You had learned in your time that the spirits of mortals were ones to watch when you woke. Through the millenia you'd seen all sorts and all types, malevolence and benevolence in equal measure.
They liked their cycles, these humans did, and you always enjoyed being awake when the wheel began to turn.
You flicked your tongue out, tasting the air and the resolve from the mortal before you.
"Tell me, little human," you kept your voice light and stay very still as the man knelt on the precipice between your lair and everything he's known, "do fight only for what you've lost? Is it enough?"
He looks up at you in those moment, his eyes filled with commitment to change and acceptance of death in the face of failure. You knew those eyes well, having seen them cycles past and knowing they can be found in cycles yet to come. You see his jaw tense, hear the conviction when he bites out, "it will be. It has to be."
You blink slowly, mostly for the show of it. Give him a chance to falter, a chance to reconsider. There was a power in having nothing to lose, to be certain, but if there truly is something to lose, anything left and it's a bit of a split on the results.
He stays firm, rounded pupils boring holes into slitted.
Nothing to lose indeed.
You raise your head, settling back from being poised to attack to a more civil state. If it's a ruse they picked the perfect actor, but you smell no backup beyond the cavern entrance, no further iron or steel or leather assaults your senses.
It's you and him, and it will be enough.
"Tell me, little mortal," you let a little more weight into your tone, enough gravity for him to feel the magnitude of the task he has set before the both of you, "who else is there?"
"The king's armies? I," he falters at this, "I know not their plans, only mobilization has-"
You can't help the laugh that rolls through your chest, the human paling at the sound, "I care not for your kings forces or numbers," it's a fact as simple as your existence: you are a dragon. Your will to overcome will be enough or it won't, but you can't yet be bothered. The king has inconvenienced you, certainly, but not to the point you would make your own moves against him. Eventually he'd tire of sending knights against you or the cost of training new knights would stop him, whichever happened first.
You continue to stare at the human until he meets your eyes once more, "I know my strength plenty. Yours, however," you ignored how he was compensating for some form of leg injury as you leaned in, "who else is there?"
His brow furrowed, "I am but one man, I... by myself I cannot face an army."
"No," you agreed, though the fire in his eyes didn't flicker or dim- if you'd told him to he would've. Curious indeed, but not what you asked, "you are just one man, but a man who scavenged armor and sword to climb a mountain with a bum leg to parlay with a dragon nonetheless. You had the resources, certainly, but who among you had the motives to try but for whatever reasons couldn't?"
You could see the glimmer in his eyes as he realized where you were going, "the king has enlisted across villages far and wide across the kingdom, he's taken from what should be winter stores for war rations, any who oppose-"
You huff, the sudden noise cutting him off, "good, you know the abstract. Make it specific. Find the people you speak of. This king certainly has not been maintaining relationships by the sound of it. Find them, take this," you flick a piece of your hoard to him, a simple necklace with an enchanted charm, "talk with them. Learn their stories, learn their plight, and bring them back to me."
He looked at the charm before he clasped the delicate chain around his neck, "how will I know when to return?"
You settle yourself back amidst your hoard, wings shoved back where you had them just comfortable enough before the human disrupted you, "you will. Trust yourself in this, you will," you pause in your settling, eyeing the human and purposely scattering a pouchworth of coins down the pile toward him, "for your trip. It might be a long one, make it last."
------
You doze easily enough after that, only awoken by two different knights challenging you for your hoard before your human returned.
You don't track well the changes mortals go through in their lives, too much of their forms are too similar and fleshy but you can tell the demeanor of your human is changed.
He has friends, now, for one. You can taste the same resolve in them that you could in your human.
All the better.
You crack an eye open as he strides to the entrance to the cave, a hitch in his step not hindering him from walking between the piles of your treasures with eyes that only kept to your form.
You raise yourself up in its own greeting, scattered coins and trinkets sliding as you free your wings from where you'd made yourself comfortable. You huff fondly, "you came back."
A nod, "I did."
You make a show of looking over him to where his party stands at the precipice, the threshold between your lair and everything they've known, "and you brought friends."
Another nod, "I did."
You lower your head to his level, "and will they stand by you? Through thick and thin?"
Nod, "they have before and will again."
You look past him, eye boring into each in turn- a woman, an elder, a man missing an arm, a youngling who shouldn't know who they want to be yet- outcasts all, perhaps, but they didn't look away, "and will they approach?"
The woman approaches first, "I will," fiery eyed and chin held high. You can taste the ash around her, she was burned when hers were taken from her, and she would wield the fire toward those who wronged her.
"I will," the child next, they smelled not of abandonment but of being the survivor- a nest routed and the only one to escape the hounds. Justice from the shadows for the lost and the stolen.
The one armed man merely grunted. He was not to be left behind, strong of body and mind none would argue- but refusal to forge what was commanded? Met with the demand and punishment so he could never return to his trade and lose everything he had from it. He smelled of cold iron and hot coals, the two parted for the moment until he could reunite with those taken to march and his tools returned or reforged.
The elder's spirit did not falter, "I will." The grip on the cane was strong and sure where strides may not be. The scent of generations surrounded, of siblings and children and nieces and nephews and grandchildren all scattered to the winds for a war they did not believe in. The smell of home was one of longing, but what is a home without those you love and care for?
Each response and step further in committed to the cause, a match, a flicker, an ember. You looked to the human who came first, "and do you bring me their stories?"
"Theirs and more," he promised, reverently unclasping the light chain he still wore and holding the charm in his hand, "so many more."
Your eyes gleam in the light of the sunrise as you look at your returned treasure, "and? Do you have enough?"
He looked down to the charm, squeezing it in his grasp, "enough is enough."
------
They took them from me for the crime of opposing another meaningless war. I served before and once I was a lame Shepard that couldn't serve again they took them from me.
You could feel the humans holding on to your back like their lives depend on it as you soar through the skies toward the capital.
We told them our harvest wasn't enough to supply the rations yet, given time we could pay the tithe and have our stores for winter. Instead they took twice what they claimed we owed and burned the warehouse in an 'accident'. We lost many to the blaze and I lost everything.
You clasp the pendant in your grasp, each of the stories told to it swirling in your thoughts as you coast towards your goal.
Nobody cared for the war orphans so we cared for each other. We knew a little bit of everything and we covered what we could but apparently we were old enough to be put to work in a war band. We scattered but I was the only one who made it out. They have to still be alive, I'll get 'em out.
Every story in the pendant, a cacophony of voices and sorrows and rage, each a little flicker of tinder.
Tools can be remade but we were the family we chose and I won't leave them to be frontline fodder, not when they wouldn't leave me.
Ten flickers, twenty, a hundred, a thousand.
We were farmers, I learned from the generations before me and taught the generations that came after. We are people of the earth, not pointless bloodshed for the sake of ego.
Each story unique but the chorus of the same tone from thousands of lips with thousands of hearts praying for the same result.
We're dying, we're trapped, we can't stop this, we need help, we need out.
That could kindle the hottest dragonflame.
you are an ancient dragon, the king has sent many soldiers to slay you all have failed. Then one day a man with leather armor wielding an iron sword. You get into your fighting stance, he then speaks up and says âthe king killed my family and everything I love, will you help me?â
#man i havent written for a prompt like this in ages#i just fugue state wrote this in. a lot longer than i shouldve on the clock#oops#anyway if people like it ill finish it up at some point but i cant find myself getting the words right for a satisfying end to this rn#morg writes i guess

Letâs do the entire Molly and Sirius argument (+Lupin) next đ„łđ„ł gonna grab my laptop for this so hang tight with the screencaps.
So the pre fight context: Sirius being forced to face everything that he went through (everything. From childhood too) for the first time since leaving Azkaban is making him very grumpy.
Molly being forced back into a war with her 7 kids (+ Harry and Hermione) and really worried about the impact it will have on all of them. She is also worried about how close Harry is to Sirius, because she doesn't really think his godfather is doing his role of a parent properly (cue the Mundungus argument)
Cool? Let's go.
Lupin in this argument works as the middle ground, as you are going to see as we go forward. That he is wary of how harshly Sirius approached the topic with Harry is a sign that Molly's concerns aren't unfounded, and Remus himself probably shares them. But unlike her, Remus cares deeply about Sirius too. So rather than judging him for acting up instead of being a proper parent, he is worried (wary) about him.
I also want to preface this by saying Harry doesn't understand the dynamic of this scene. You're going to see that later on. He is 15, and too young to understand. So much so he attributes Lupin's wary look to Voldemort's name being said, and not to Sirius' behavior.
Matching Remus, Molly too doesn't like how Sirius breached the topic. We know she already doesn't think he's fit to be a parent, and how carelessly he brought this up doesn't help, though she is trying to hold back and remain civil. Right now, the argument can be broken down to her believing Harry is too young to know, and Sirius thinks he should. But the other context I'm giving is what makes it escalate.
Sirius is Harry's godfather. He has no legal claim to him as a wanted criminal, but he is the parent that James and Lily chose to be there in case anything went wrong. And to make matters deeper, Harry too considers Sirius a father figure far more than he considers the Weasleys per his own words last book.
And speaking of the last book, Sirius, for his part, was also trying really hard to be there for Harry as much as he could. Down to turning into padfoot and staying in the infirmary with him at the end, despite Fudge being in the castle AND IN THE ROOM WITH HIM.
So that is where Sirius is coming from. He respects how Molly parents her children, even if he doesn't agree (he could have told the twins what is going on but didn't), but where Harry is concerned, he is the parent.
While I don't personally disagree he is the parent, because Harry sees him as such, Siri should remember that in the decade he wasn't there, Harry had other adults in his life. Not all of them awful like the Dursleys.
This was interesting. Molly is clearly hurt for being cut out as one of Harry's parents, but she knows she can't claim Sirius is not Harry's guardian and that she is (for the reasons I cited above, he is the godfather and Harry sees him as such), so she tries to involve Dumbledore.
Up until now in this saga, every single adult and kid on the "good" side respects and obeys Dumbledore. With that card, she hopes to convince Sirius that her views on how Harry should be handled are valid, and that he is too young to know.
Remus is still concerned about Sirius and how he's handling... everything. With Sirius' explosive and impulsive personality, it is also possible that he's afraid Sirius will snap at Molly, which wouldn't be helpful at all on any level. Please do keep watching him, Moons.
This point of the argument doesn't bother me. While I see where Molly is coming from, I agree with Sirius. It doesn't really matter if Harry is too young. It is him that Voldemort is after, and he should be ready.
This stung. All of it, down to Harry's innocence. Do I think there's some projecting going around? Absolutely. Both Sirius and Harry see each other as James to an extent (though I think Harry projects more than Sirius does because Harry wants a father). I have no problem with Molly discussing this with Sirius, but she should do it privately.
To do it in front of everyone, especially the kids, and especially Harry was just uncalled for. Fortunately Harry is too young to understand the implications of that. But if he wasn't, she would have made him question whether Sirius really loves him or not, and that for a kid that really really wants a family would be heartbreaking.
You care so deeply about Harry's safety, Molly? Then why are you trying to scar him for life?
And again, completely unnecessary to bring James up to discuss that Sirius should be more mindful of how he's parenting Harry. She could have just said that. "Hey Sirius, I know you think Harry is a very capable wizard, which he is, but he is still a child. Maybe you should consider making things age-appropriate for him".
Her bringing Dumbledore up again to further her point is a bit manipulative. If Dumbledore didn't trust Sirius because he's rash, he wouldn't have made Grimmauld Palace the HQ, nor would he have allowed Sirius anywhere near Harry.
LOL Arthur doesn't want anything to do with this mess. He knows Molly has a good heart, but that she is taking it too far. And I can only imagine what facial expressions Sirius had to be making when Molly was bringing up extremely hurtful topics to him so carelessly that Remus spent two entire pages staring at him.
And I think this is why he took Sirius' side. Sirius is actually keeping himself in check really well despite what is being said for Harry's sake instead of taking the bait, which proves that he can actually control himself and act rationally. It proves that Sirius doesn't just want Harry involved in the order so he can go on missions with the kid and pretend he's James, but that he actually thought this through.
And here is where it all goes off the rails for good. Molly bringing Dumbledore up for the third time to try and make them bend to her will wouldn't be so bad, if she hadn't implied Sirius doesn't have Harry's best interests at heart.
That, on top of everything else that was already said was too much for Sirius, and so he bit back. Unfortunately, he's wrong. Yes, she shouldn't be trying to undermine his feelings for the boy, but the same can be said from him towards her.
Awful as the circumstances were, he wasn't there. And since he wasn't there, there were other adults that had to be, Molly being one. It's not fair to undermine her role in his life and her care for him anymore than it is for her to do it to him.
Now this was a big yikes from her. She's saying what I said above. That while he wasn't there, there were other adults that had to be. But she is doing so in a very cruel manner. It's not his fault that he wasn't there. He didn't do anything wrong, and he didn't deserve 12 to spend 12 years in jail. This said in this manner is completely uncalled for, and it got to him.
And that is most likely why Remus intervened. He could scold both of them for acting out in the entire convo, but he only scolds her. What she said cut deep, hence the "his face white".
So there we have it! The argument. Let's look at the fallout next.

I came back for you
Word count: 2123
Genre: Angst but happy end
Pairing: Natasha x gn!reader
Warnings: Abusive prison/government (let me know if I need to add any)
Request: Hey, so this is kind of a weird request, but could you do a Nattie x Powered! Reader during Civil War, where Nat, of course, is on Tony's team, and the Reader is trying to keep the peace between the two teams. Maybe the government takes (Y/n) and puts her in a shock collar like Wanda's because they think she was on Steve's team? Sorry this is so weird . . .
Summary: You are neutral in the fight, or so you think before you are told you can't be and are taken away with the rest of Cap's team.
A/n: Thanks @thewidowsghost for requesting this! Honestly I didn't plan on writing anything or posting anything today but I saw that I had a little bit of this done and to be honest my day has sucked so I needed a distraction and this worked perfectly. Also I could someone tell me how the formatting looks? I'm trying the new beta editor and I think I'm doing things right but idk. Anyways I hope you all enjoy!
As you take in the scene that surrounds you you canât believe that you once considered everybody to be a big weird family. Certainly none of them are acting like it now. It breaks your heart to see them on opposite sides, throwing themselves at each other because apparently their personal beliefs are more important than their friends.
Neither of them are right or wrong in your opinion. Thereâs too many factors and both options suck, itâs the governmentâs fault for placing the team in this situation. However you are not happy with the way anyone is handling it, especially Steve, Tony and Natasha. Both Tony and Steve are acting based on what they think is right without considering the other sides to the story, although you canât say thatâs surprising coming from them. You do know that they genuinely do care for others but they can be very hard headed and neither of them like to be wrong.
Itâs Natasha who youâre most disappointed in though, you thought that she would be a better negotiation, helping ease the tension but sheâs out there fighting like the rest of the idiots. You thought that she would agree with you and try to bring together the two sides.
You narrow your eyes and zoom in your vision to the far side of the airport where you see Spiderman. You have no idea who he is but you can tell just by looking at him that heâs only a kid and it was irresponsible of everyone to let him be here and to fight him. You use your superspeed to get to him quickly and take him out of the way of flying cars and leave him by the side where it should be relatively safe.
âStay here.â you tell him.
âBut-â
You glare. âStay here.â
You rush off before you can make sure he listens because you can hear a grunt of pain from Rhodney. Heâs lying on the ground with Tony standing over him and Sam a few meters back. The fight seems to be ending now, you see the plane leaving and the rest of the avengers start to gather but it doesnât matter because the damage is already done. You donât know exactly what happened but it looks like a freak accident, somehow nobodyâs fault and yet everybodyâs fault for getting into this situation in the first place.
The mood is weird, as if everybody is holding their breath and taking in what theyâve done. In the background you can hear trucks pulling up and footsteps follow soon after. The first man grabs Wanda and she blasts him back lightly so he falls down. Immediately a circle forms around her, everyone pointing their guns. Clint takes a step in, raising his arms and trying to calm the situation down but the guns shift to him and one agent steps forward and roughly grabs him, forcing his wrists into cuffs.
They go for Sam next and he looks pissed but lets them cuff him without comment. Scott looks completely confused and out of his depth. You donât know him but itâs obvious that he is not trained for these types of situations and is in over his head.
Itâs Wanda that makes your heart break the most though. Sheâs like a little sister to you so seeing the tears in her eyes and the terror on her face as the agents move in to cuff her makes you want to wrap your arms around her and promise it will all be okay. But you canât, that would be a lie because everything is not okay and trying to hug her would only make things worse.
The agents start to move away, leading Cap's team to their trucks to be taken away. One of them turns back and notices you, murmuring something to the agents beside them. Before you can even understand what is happening they are right back and grabbing at your arms roughly. Naturally you try to pull away but they are strong and once you realize what is happening you stop struggling.
âI didnât pick a side,â you try to explain, âI was just trying to make sure everyone was okay.â
âYou didnât sign the accords and therefore have no right to be here.â one of the men tells you. You look towards Tonyâs team for help but they all seem to be busy. Tony and Vision are trying to make sure Rhodney is okay and the kid is luckily back where you left him. Tâchalla is shaking hands with one of the agents and although it makes you sick because of the way they are treating some of the others you understand, he does have a country to run and his people must come first after all.
Natasha is the only one not doing anything and she meets your eyes. You silently beg her to do something, anything against what is happening. She stares you straight in the eye and shakes her head. You actually shiver at how cold her look is because you never thought that would be directed at you, you thought that the two of you were close.
âIâm not going to help you Y/n, you made your own choice and I made mine.â Is all she says before turning away. You watch her back as long as you can as you are led into the trucks, wondering how everything went wrong so quickly.
---
Nobody talks. You arenât even sure if youâre allowed to. There is no way what they are doing is legal but who is going to argue with the government. A secret prison built just for enhanced individuals and imprisoning people without trial isnât right. You were neutral before but the more you see of how the government operates the more you start to lean towards supporting Steve and the rest of his âteamâ.
You shift slightly because the shock collar is getting even more uncomfortable. Wanda is wearing one too, probably since the two of you are the only ones that have powers unrelated to technology and suits. She looks smaller than ever in her cell and you close your eyes because if you continue to look at her you know youâll end up crying.
Nothing changes throughout the day until you hear the door creak open. Everyone glares when they see itâs Tony and he and Clint share a few words before Tony practically begs Sam for information. Samâs reluctant but gives in, seeing that Tony is sincere and knowing that although he disagrees with Tony itâs not really his fault that youâre all here, itâs the governmentâs.
When Tony leaves things go silent again for a few hours. You havenât been fed since youâve gotten here, you realize, but you arenât hungry anyways, your mind canât stop picturing the fight, being arrested and most of all Natashaâs attitude towards you. It hurts even more than you would like to admit. You considered her your best friend but you also had feelings for her and you were dumb enough to think that just maybe she felt the same things about you. Obviously that is completely untrue and you wonder if even your friendship was a lie.
âHow long do you think weâll be stuck here for?â Wanda asks finally and although her voice is quiet you wince at how it breaks the silence.
âI donât know kid.â Clint responds. âToo long. My wife is going to kill me and my kids-â
He stops himself, getting a little choked up which surprises you. Youâve never seen him this emotional before.
âI already miss my daughter.â Scott adds on and there is a moment of understanding that passes between the two of them.
âI donât have my own family but Iâm going to miss my sister.â Sam says. âShe probably wonât even find out whatâs happening until itâs on the news, if the news even covers it.â
âI miss the team.â you add. âBefore this fight, we werenât perfect but I considered everyone family.â
âSo did I.â Wanda says and you all take a moment to miss what used to be.
âI miss pizza.â Sam jokes, trying to lighten the mood. It works and soon everyone is adding on ridiculous things they miss and things they want to do when you get out (you canât even think about the fact that the âwhenâ might actually be âifâ).
Your eyes snap to the door when it opens and everyone shuts up immediately. You look warily at Natasha, unsure of why sheâs here. Maybe the government sent her in to interrogate, god knows she is amazing at that and you honestly wouldnât be able to not talk to her, as much as youâre mad at her right now.
She doesnât speak, going straight towards Samâs door and kneeling down, fiddling with the lock. After a few seconds it clicks and the door swings open.
âWhen did you switch sides?â He asks, raising his eyebrows, impressed.
âI donât pick sides, I do what makes the most sense and right now breaking you out is the right thing to do. Besides Iâm wanted now too, apparently the government doesnât like it when you aid fugitives in escaping.â she responds smoothly, moving onto Wandaâs cell and repeating her actions until it opens.
âDo you know how to take the collar off?â she asks and Sam nods. He gets to work while Natasha moves on. Both Clint and Scott pass at her offer of freeing them. They both look like theyâre itching to escape but you respect that theyâre putting their families first.
Youâre surprised by how emotional you get when she unlocks your cell. You thought she didnât care about you so to have her here now is amazing and makes you feel bad you ever doubted that she would do the right thing.
âY/n, itâs okay, Iâve got you.â she tells you as she undoes your shock collar carefully, doing her best to not hurt you.
âI-I thought you didnât care about me anymore.â you admit, a single tear dripping down your face.
She wipes it away with her thumb. âOh sweetheart I care about you so much, more than you could ever know and I want you to always remember that, promise me.â
You nod, sniffing. âI promise Tasha.â
âGood because I came back for you and I will always come back for you.â she says, leaning in closer. You look down at her lips as she continues to lean in because she is so close and it seems like sheâs going to kiss you.
âGlad to know Y/n was the only reason you came back.â Sam says, smirking. You love him but you also want to strangle him right now, that bastard could totally see what was happening and ruined the moment on purpose.
Natasha flips him the finger but otherwise ignores him. âSteve and Bucky are waiting in the jet outside, I was able to dismantle alarms and cameras but we only have a few minutes left so follow me and be quiet.â
She grabs your hand as she moves out of your cell and you walk with her, the others trailing behind slightly. The halls are clear and itâs only a few turns before she ushers everyone into a vent. Itâs a tight squeeze but you make it through and you pop out to find sturdy wires attached to the side of the raft coming from a nearby jet. Wanda and Sam each take one and their wires retract, pulling them into the jet. You gulp nervously, heights are definitely not one of your favourite things.
âWe have to go Y/n.â Natasha whispers just as alarms start to sound, the noises loud with flashing lights.
You take a deep breath and grab the remaining wire and once youâre secure Natasha grabs it too. Closing your eyes tightly so you donât look down you feel a strange whooshing sensation before it disappears and your feet touch down on the jet floor.
âSo what next?â Sam asks once youâve all collected yourselves, directing his question at Steve.
âWe lie low and try to help as best we can.â he responds, sighing heavily. âWeâll figure out the details as we go, what matters is that everybody is safe.â
Natasha holds your hand again and squeezes it tightly. âAnd that we are together.â she whispers into your ear so only you hear.
You squeeze her hand tightly back. Your relationship with her has gone through a rollercoaster of a day and is mostly undefined but sheâs right, all that matters is that youâre together now and you wouldnât rather be with anyone else.

Let You Go And Move On
Donât forget this was the song (pls listen)
Etho was going to scream. Iskall hadnât talked to him once since their fight in Fantastico. He would admit, what he said was a bit out of line, but sue him. His best friend told him he was leaving. He didnât understand what it meant to be gods. There was so much to learn.
Maybe he was being selfish. Even before X lifted the ban and Iskall knew about the gods, Etho thought they would stay together somehow after college. Maybe Iskall would work close by and they would still be friends. He was stupid, yeah, that wouldnât happen. Mortals had such short lifespans. Heâd never been friends with the mortalâs heâs known.
Itâs dangerous to get attached to a human, Etho. Never do it. All the gods told him. He wasnât stupid, he was one of the oldest gods. He knows that.
But Iskall was a god like him now. It was different. Gods didnât fight because one was going away. They didnât stop talking because one of them said something that hurt the other. They lived too long to let every comment hurt them.
Iskall was a human originally, though. He thought like one and lived like one. He had the emotions of one. Thatâs what made this so complicated. Iskall couldnât see what Etho did. But then again, Etho didnât know what Iskall was seeing.
He got what he meant, really. Iskall wanted to be in his element, they all did. But he didnât know. He didnât realize what he could do with something as mole as finding treasure.
Neither had talked for days. Etho was sure he had spoken with Hbomb because thatâs just what one does. He was like the collegeâs unofficial therapist and advice giver. Despite never taking his own advice, he dished out some wisdom every once in a while.
Iskall was at his desk. He could apologize and everything would be okay. Everything could go back to normal. He could finally go get some ramen.
But He was still going to leave. He would make mistakes because no one was there and all of their friends were here. If he didnât stay sorry, maybe he would stick around until he did.
âIâm sorry.â Etho admitted.
Iskall turned in his chair. âIs that all?â
Etho sighed. âIâm sorry for being a bad friend. I shouldnât have said that stuff to you.â
âWhy did you though? What the hell got into you?â Iskall demanded to know.
Etho didnât even know where to begin explaining. There was so much to talk about. Well, there wasn't actually, he just didnât know what to say. He was horrible at social interactions. Can't he just wait a thousand years until he forgave him.
He could show him.
"Take my hand" Etho insisted.
Iskall hesitantly grabbed his friend's hand. "Is this gonna be like that scene from aladdin? I swear if you toss me out the window I'll kill you. God or not, you will die."
"First, do you forgive me?" Etho asked.
Iskall kicked his leg. "Oh my, yes, now what do-"
Iskall didn't get tossed out the window. It was much worse. His world went black and the air was sucked out of him. He hated teleportation. He never did it himself, but he was told it was much easier on your own. He didnât want to try it out just yet. Heâll stay on his own feet.
Light came back and he sucked in crisp air. They were on top of a tall mountain. Snow was gently falling, covering the already white peaks. The area they were at was large and flat, big enough to fit a couple of the university buildings. The view was beautiful, he had never seen anything like it. It was untouched by human's, far too cold for any civilization. So why were they there.
âI was born here.â Etho said, simple and straight to the point.
Iskall shivered. âThat why your hair is like that?â
Etho laughed. âMaybe. Did I tell you how I became a god?â
Iskall felt the cold drip away. He looked around. They were in the same place as before, snow was falling gently around them. But it was warm, like the side of a campfire. âNo.â
âThe mortals who lived here barely survived. They prayed to the gods to give them something to protect them, and sent weapons that they would kill animals with. Thatâs how beef was born. But there was nothing to cook the meat with. So a young girl pulled some tricks and brought it to them.â
âHumanityâs first invention was fire. It took one person to steal it from the gods for them to find something to survive. Thatâs how I happened. I was created because mortals needed to survive, and to do that they invented the first tool for it.â
âSo, what are you trying to tell me?â Iskall asked. âWhatâs your point?â
âMy point,â Etho poked his arm. âIs that every god is needed by humanity on different levels. Grian and Pearl are needed to run the entire world. Niki helps in certain situations. We help with innovation and creation. Creativity doesnât exist without us.â
âWe donât have to operate on huge scales across the world. Sure, we can if we want to. X definitely does. But no one has to do anything. I'm not good at letting go, I've never forgotten anything I've created. That's why if you leave, I won't move on."
âBut I want to. I want you to go with me. I want to discover new civilization and languages and species. You can help figure out what the inventions were. We can make new inventions from the past. We can do it.â
Etho tilted his head. âDo you know why the NHO exist?â
Iskall was surprised by the question. The others were a bit understandable, but where did the NHO come in. âOnce again, no.â
âGods get so caught up in their work, we can get lost in it. We need people to tell us to slow down and stop. The NHO have told each other since the beginning to stop if we went too far. Do you know what happens when we canât stop?â
Iskall shook his head. Etho took a deep breath. âWhatâs something that happens when humanâs are at war with too little sleep and too much time to invent and construct.â
âYou meanâŠâ Iskall started.
âGods arenât just destruction themselves, they let humanâs create them in their own form. If a human hurts another using you, itâs your fault. Thatâs why we canât go too far. If you discover the wrong think, Iskall, thatâs on you.â Etho explained.
âHow do I stop?â Iskall asked him. He hated hearing he could be the cause of misfortune, but he needed to know.
âThatâs what weâre for. Bdubs tells me something is too dangerous. I tell Doc not to give the right tools. We hold back Beef from a fight. We make Bdubs let his hold on dreams go.â Etho made it sound so simple.
Iskall would be on his own and could be consumed by his own element. He could hurt people. Even doing the thing he loves, it could end in devastation. âHow do I do that? How do I stop myself?â
âYou donât, I do.â Iskall spun his head to the side. âAnd if you think I go too far, you hold me back. Youâre a god now, you can tell me in whatever language you want. Where was that flyer for? Peru. âSo in Spanish just yell at me to stop being stupid and take a break. Simple.â
âYouâre coming?â Iskall breathed. His breathe was foggy in the freezing air he couldnât feel.
âOf course! The original plan was to get you to become a god, but everything happened and boom you were one. I didnât want my favorite human dying. Now we donât have to worry about that!â Etho said it so simply. He said it like it was obvious and Iskall should have seen it coming.
The mountain was steep. The first village mustâve barely survived until Etho.
He didnât believe in fate or gods or soulmates or any imaginary stuff before this. Before a ton of gods crashed into his life and he died, he would have laughed at someone saying he would spend all of time adventuring with one. But if the old gods of fate had it written this was his path, he wouldnât complain.
He saw a flash of memory that wasnât his. He was sure it wasnât one of his past lives he remembered now that he was a god. He knew it was someone, whether it be X, fate, or some other god. They were showing him the future.
He saw himself standing in front of a flat field with half dug houses sticking from the ground. All around him were archeologists working to uncover whatever was hidden beneath. Besides him was Etho, directing someone on how to use some kind of tool. It was one he invented just to help that particular excavation.
The file ended and he was back on the mountain. âReady to go?â He nodded.
Iskall felt a tug followed by darkness. He was prepared for the black hole and loss of air this time. They were back in their dorm room, everything just as they left it.
Iskall threw a bag at him. âLetâs go then. Pack up what you want.â
âRight now?â Etho yelped, bag hitting his shoulder.
âYep.â Iskall opened his drawers, throwing random clothes in. âYou said weâre going, so weâre gonna go. Or are you backing out right away?â
Etho grinned. âYou think iâm gonna let you go that easy? Who else is gonna buy me ramen at 2am.â
Iskall smirked. âThere might not be any ramen where we go, maybe we should stop by Fantastico. Give them one last scare.â
âI think I can deal with you for an eternity.â Etho jokes.
âYou better, you canât get rid of me.â
Bdubs found the note a few days later, having not seen his friends in a bit. He shared it with the others, not bothering to give chase. He knew even if he went after them, he would never win that fight.
âOn an adventure, be back soon.

She doesn't believe him, but even if he meant it she likely wouldn't; Annalise had many problems, and she was mad at the world and she assumed it was mad right back, including Ezra. It makes a pit open up in her stomach when she senses it from himâ feels like she could handle anyone being mad at her but not him, not right now, not after everything she had been through in the past week alone. Finding her brother is alive, but a vampire seemingly under the thumb of a super bitch who certainly didn't like being shot at, her sister almost dying, being kidnapped herself by someone she â well, trusted wasn't the word, but she had thought that Nolan would never do something like that to her. Now she couldn't even trust humans. She wants to cry, it's all bubbling up and it's far too much, but she can't... she won't allow herself to in front of him.
A sigh leaves her lips, blinking back the tears from bloodshot eyes as she looks at Ezra and tries to analyse what's going on in his mind. This feeling â these feelings â weren't something she was used to and she couldn't place it, couldn't put her finger on why she would feel so hurt if Ezra didn't trust her, didn't take her at her word. Couldn't place why as soon as she was free he was her first thought; Lis had tried but she couldn't make it there to the meeting point, she had almost passed out. "I tried to come earlier." She admitted with soft voice, clearing her throat to try and get the emotion out of her tone. "I wanted to see you as soon as I was free but Iâ, it was dangerous. Almost passed out on the way here." Had to stop at her exes place. "I'm sorry, Ezra."
She had to remind herself that what she was feeling â whatever she was feeling â was likely because of the blood sharing they had been taking part in. It was a tricky thing, could be dangerous, and she had never trusted another vampire. His blood when she tasted it, when she was already in good health, it was like ecstasy roaring through her veins. She couldn't get enough and she couldn't imagine experiencing that from anyone else; it had to be him. It's dangerous, and so is he, but not to her. A danger to others, a danger to all, but blind to the dangers he could pose to her. She either didn't see them or didn't wish to see them, because he's the first she's trusted like this. The first she's even come close to opening herself up to, truly. That was more than the bloodsharing, wasn't it? Even if it was, she doubted that it was anything more than one-sided.
"Yes." She answers far too quickly, snapping out of her thoughts. "I was going to ask you to." Annalise wants to feel him against her, arms wrapped around her holding her in place and pulling her so close they could almost be one as he fed from her. Strangely trusts him not to kill her, but knows she should have the ability to fight him off if he can't control himself. Lis would never wish to hurt him, especially in front of Frank, but if it would save her life she would have no choice, especially when his blood was in her system. "Just rememberâ your blood is in my system. You accidentally lose it, you're stuck with me forever." She teases, but what a forever it would be. They would have all the time in the world to go and see all of the ancient civilizations she longed to see. Two-thousand years old. She didn't know what she expected, but she didn't think he would quite be that old. "Well, that's quite the age gap." Lis chuckles, a soft smile staying on her lips. She didn't care how old he was, not really; it was an interest in him that made her ask. "You've seen all the history I've dreamed about. Lived through it. Survived so much." And he'd survive her too, and someday he wouldn't even remember the little hunter sparring mate turned friend.
"I'm not," he quietly says, but he doesn't know if that's true. His emotions are a soggy black spot of ink dropped on his brain, a stain he can never rub out âž» leaving the text on yellow-edged pages unreadable to his curious eyes. He doesn't know what hides in his head, around the corners of brain veins and nerves, inside pink bleeding meat and theorical soul squeezing his heart. It's a puzzle Ezra doesn't possess the pieces for, his fingers not daft enough to form the picture on the box. He can't tell her with certainty what he feels âž» can't tell himself what the discomfort in his chest means, the restlessness of his bones are trying to tell him. He isn't mad at her, but he is, and he doesn't want to be, but anger is all he can cling to. It's confusion and elation at once. He doesn't know if he believes her, either, but he nods slowly.
He misses the taste of her, the feel of her skin against his lips âž» the pulse of her blood throbbing against his tongue. She is the only thing he craves, lately. The only thing that will settle in his upset stomach. Sparta wasn't build in a day, and Menelaus risked everything for Helen. But is he Paris âž» starved for the attention of a woman who couldn't love him back? Ridiculous. He doesn't like her. He likes her blood. The distinction is thin, but it exists. It has to, he tells himself. Ezra shrugs, unsure of what he can do now. To comfort her, to comfort himself. Is this what a terrible situation looks like? He doesn't know. He doesn't think she is terrible. "Maybe later. Do you think I could drink from your neck, this time?"
He doesn't, normally. Not hers; too dangerous, too intimate. He adores ripping the neck of his victims open, drinking from where the flow is stronger. He can't imagine doing it to Lis, but he wants to press himself entire against her. Wants to bury his face in her neck, feel the weight of her on him, be drowned by everything she is. It's a strange question for an even stranger desire, but Ezra can't help it. His hands feel empty, like the only thing that could feel the holes in his existence is her. He is not hungry, he is not starved âž» he just wants her close. It scares him. It excites him. It makes him admit, "I'm nearly two thousand years old," in a whisper. She asked, before, and he doesn't want to lie. To hide himself from her.

ON THE EDGE ~ Pt. 1
Summary: YN is a Detective and the partner of Gavin Reed, number one douchebag of the Detroit City Police Department. After a forced break, she comes back. Sheâs looking forward to working with her partner again and to getting back into her ânormalâ life between case files and criminals. But, of course, it doesnât stay boring for too long: Gavin seemed to be more on the edge than usual, a Red Ice dealer might be a good lead to something bigger and then, there is Connor, the friendly, handsome android and Hankâs new partner.
Added to the fact that yn has to deal with the criminal world again, she also discovers feelings she hasnât noticed before triggered by a person she hasnât expected.
Her life always resembled a ride on a rollercoaster.
But now, itâs a whole damn circus parade.
Characters: Gavin Reed, YN (FEMALE!Reader), Hank Anderson, Connor
Words: 2.472
Warnings: signs of PTSD (flashbacks in italics), cursing (a lot), mention of blood
"He's totally crazy. He shoots at everything that moves. It's impossible to get close to him.", yn stated. "But we have to stop him somehow."
"Stay here. I have an idea. Over there, the left spot is free. He will barely notice me.", Gavin said and pointed in the direction.
"Gavin, no!", Yn cursed as he slipped through her grip, "Gavin!", she tried again to call him back but her partner was already too far away, "Fuck!"
Gavin ran to the left side like mentioned. Yn stayed behind the hide and watched the scene concerned. She was trying to cover Gavin whenever needed. What Gavin couldn't notice was that the crazy guy had seen him.
Even if she tried everything to get the guy's attention, Yn watched in horror how the suspect aimed at Gavin who sneaked through the room completely unaware that he was the target in the line of fire.
The suspect aimed his gun into Gavin's direction and waited til he would appear on the other side of the pillar where Gavin tried to hide.
There was no way that yn would be able to stop the guy. He was too far away and behind a half broken wall. But she was convinced that she could help Gavin. That was what she did without thinking twice: she ran towards Gavin. As she reached him to push him out of the way, the suspect fired his gun two times.
Of course Gavin was cursing as he hit the ground unexpectedly, not knowing what had pushed him. He hurried to get back on his feet and as he saw that the suspect's gun had been running out of bullets, Gavin shot to stop him.
Gavin made sure that the suspect was no threat anymore. Officers were running into the room to arrest the shooter. And only then, Gavin noticed yn lying on the ground and all the blood pouring from her body...
Gasping for air, Gavin started up from his sleep and sat straight in his bed, "Fuck...", he cursed breathlessly. He was dripping with sweat, his hair clutching to his face. Three o'clock in the morning. Just two hours of sleep but still more than the night before...or all the other nights during the past weeks.
Gavin pushed his blanket away, sat on the edge of his bed and rested his face in his hands to calm down himself. His fingers were digging into his hair violently as he desperately tried to get the memories out of his head. He squeezed his eyes shut until stars were dancing in front of his inner eyes.
A shudder was shaking him. Goosebumps were spreading over his naked chest. To sit around like this, covered in sweat, wouldn't do anything good. And because he was already awake, Gavin stood up, took his boxing gloves and started to train until the pictures in his head would disappear.
He knew this would never happen.
He should have been better.
He had failed yn.
**
To stay in front of this certain building after all these long weeks felt like coming home. At least, for yn. She was nervous but in a good way that shot adrenaline through her body. It was like the first day at school after the summer break. She didn't have to fear anything. Everyone would be happy to see her again. And yet, she extended the moment to go in. It was not an official visit. She just wanted to come back because...she feared to miss too many things.
Yn had heard the rumors of Hank's new partner. An android. Then, there were the happenings that got called 'War of Detroit', the successful android revolution. So many things had changed and yet, yn knew that there was still this one, certain absolute term. Her own rock in this ocean of craziness she could always depend on: Gavin Reed, her partner.
Yn was looking forward to seeing all the familiar faces again and without waiting any longer, she entered the DPD finally.
*
Gavin stood in the kitchen of the DPD at one of the tables, his back facing the office so he hadn't to see anyone. The last thing he wanted was to talk with someone. A cup of coffee stood in front of him. He watched the foam floating around on the dark liquid. It was his third cup. And it wouldn't be the last.
"Good morning, Detective Reed."
Gavin nodded without looking up. Even if Gavin had made his peace with Connor, the nice android from the neighborhood, he was still getting on his nerves from time to time. This morning was such a 'time'. His thoughts always drifted back to his recurring dreams of ynâŠ
"Reed.", Hank greeted Gavin, who nodded quickly. Without asking, Hank and Connor joined Gavin at the table. An own cup of coffee in front of Hank. He sugared it and stirred the liquid that would start his day.
Connor was about to say something, maybe to light up the mood of these two grumpy guys, but Hank stopped him, "Shit! Look who's there.", he said and looked at someone behind Gavin's back.
Gavin looked up and saw Hank and Connor staring at the same spot so, he turned around, "No fucking way!", Gavin called out surprised and approached yn quickly who stood in the passage of the kitchen. A smirk was spreading on his lips as he saw her in the familiar environment.
Yn smiled and waved but as she saw Gavin's predatory glance and the smirk, she stepped back and raised her hands to stop him, "Gavin, no. Stop! Gavin!" The impact of her partner knocked all the air out of her lungs.
He snaked his arms around her waist and scooped her up, "I have missed you, shorty!", he cheered.
Yn chuckled until she got put back down on her feet a moment later, "I have missed you, too, idiot!", she said. Together, Gavin and yn went back to the table to Hank and Connor, "I'm- what? Away for six weeks and everything went south? Detroit fights a civil war against androids who started a revolution? Everything's a warzone, suddenly and I'm not a part of that? Boys, I thought you could handle it better without me.", she said smirking and crossed her arms.
"We did what we could but there were just too many of these things.", Gavin said serious.
As yn looked at Gavin with an amused expression, her eyes fell on the fourth person at the table, "Oh, and who are you?"
"My name is Connor.", the android answered.
"My new partner.", Hank added.
"Your new- bloody hell! I already heard the rumors but- Nice to meet you. I'm yn. Whenever you need help with the old man, come to me.", yn said with a wink.
"Very funny!" Hank grunted but yn saw the grin on his face.
As Gavin saw the glances between Connor and yn, he stepped between them. Gavin wasn't fond of the way the android looked at her.
"So, you're 'back' back?", Gavin asked hopefully.
"I'm still not fully recovered. I have to attend a few dates with the psycho-doc AND I have to pass the shooting test. Then I will be back. I guess one more week. I just have missed all this so much, I had to come over.", yn said grinning.
"I guess, there will be no problem for you to pass everything, kiddo.", Hank said encouragingly.
"Thanks Hank-"
"Of course, she will pass all this bullshit! And then, she will be back. The precinct was way too boring without you!", Gavin said excitedly.
Yn saw his eyes sparkling and the familiar grin. She considered saying something nice but she always loved to tease this douchebag. It was their thing, "No new recruits to torture, huh?"
Gavin's smile faltered and he squinted his eyes as he saw her smirking, "I never-"
Yn nodded understandingly, "Ohh...I see... No women to hunt either? You poor thing!", she patted his cheek to act playfully caring.
Gavin couldn't do anything else than just to laugh before he brought her into a bear hug, completely enveloping her, "Oh, how much I have missed you!", Gavin stepped back, ruffled her hair, and laid his arm around her shoulders before they walked to his desk.
Connor watched after them. Overwhelmed by her entrance, the way she was handling Gavin and how different the Detective was around her, "Where was she?", he asked Hank finally.
Confused, Hank looked at his partner, "What?"
"Where was yn? She said she was gone for several weeks. Where had she been? Vacation?"
"Oh .. uhmm, no. She... During their last case, she got injured. She had to recover. It's good that she will be back soon, tho.", Hank explained, smiling about the fact yn was coming home.
"Detective Reed seems different around her.", Connor stated, still confused about all the smiles and laughter coming from Reed.
"I guess it's her magical power. She's able to handle him where anyone else failed a long time ago."
Connor looked at her once again. Yn stood with Gavin, Chris and some other cops at the desk, talking and laughing. She was truly magical. Nice, funny, cheeky, beautiful. He was looking forward to working with her. Then, she came back to them.
"Hey, I got appetite for the best burger in town. Wanna join?", she called over to Hank who nodded with a grin. Gavin rolled his eyes but she just nudged him in his side. Connor got dragged out of his thoughts and followed his three colleagues. Yn already waited for him to join. Much to Gavin's dismay she linked her arm with the android's one but he swallowed down his annoyance for the greater good.
*
They drove to the Chicken Feed truck. The best burger in town, how Hank had titled them. While the three made their orders, Connor organized a table. All three went to the table with burgers and drinks. Simultaneously, they bit into their burgers.
"You know, this meal contains 1.4 times the recommended daily intake of calories. You shouldn't eat-"
"Shut up!", Gavin and Hank yelled at the same time. Connor silenced instantly.
Yn looked alternating at Hank and Gavin before she stopped at Connor, "Connor, honey, very important rule: don't fuck the boys up when it comes to their food. It's not a good idea."
"But it's unhealthy.", Connor argued innocently.
Yn nodded slowly, knowing what he meant before she looked at her burger closely, "Well, Iâm spotting salad, tomato and even pickles on our burgers. These are three different types of vegetables. It's more healthier than everything else we're used to consuming. Don't forget that we usually got fueled by coffee and donuts. Only."
Connor nodded and let them eat. He had learnt that humans knew how to live the best way but some of them didn't just want to do it right. Maybe it wasnât for him to change their behaviour.
"Hey, sweety. Want some bread?â, Yn asked and threw a small piece of bread on the ground.
Hank followed the way of her attention and rolled annoyed with his eyes, "Oh, these disgusting creatures!", Hank muttered. Yn looked questioningly up to Connor.
"Lieutenant Anderson doesn't like pigeons.", Connor explained.
"That sounds like a story. I wanna know it!", yn said amused with a big grin, waiting for Hank to speak up.
Hank grinned but shook his head, "Someday, I will tell you what I had to endure with this guy but not now.", Hank said and he and Connor said goodbye. Hank hugged yn before they left her and Gavin alone.
Gavin and yn started to walk around a bit, enjoying the sunny winter day, "You look tired. Have you been very busy the last few weeks?", yn asked.
"No, it was okay. Nothing much. The typical stuff, you know.", Gavin said, his hands buried in the pockets of his jacket, playing with some coins.
"Oh, yeah... So, you just didn't want to see me then?", she asked, looking at him from the corner of her eyes, watching his reaction.
Gavin avoided her eyes, looking at the ground, "YnâŠ", he sighed, "IâŠ", but he stopped. Unsure what he should say.
Yn nudged him with her shoulder, a soft smile on her lips as she saw his pained expression, "It's okay. I'm not mad. I was just⊠it was boring, you know. If you would have visited more often, maybe it would have been more fun to recover.", she said jokingly but it wasn't working, the painful expression stayed in his face.
"I really doubt that.", Gavin said low, still not able to look at her.
"What?", Yn asked surprised and stopped.
Gavin stopped as well, facing her with his back, "I- I⊠forget it.", Gavin said and was about to go but yn stopped him with her hand holding his arm and turning him around.
"Gavin, what is it?"
Gavin needed a moment before he looked at yn, as he did, it was with a serious expression, "It's my fault that you got injured in the first place."
Slightly taken aback that it was this topic that still bothered him, yn frowned and looked at him with big eyes and shaking her head, "No. It was the fault of this fucker-"
"No! You wouldn't have been shot if I hadn't been so stupid! I have failed you as a partner and as a friend!", Gavin called out angrily, torturing himself.
Yn intervened right away, "Stop that, Gavin! It's not your fault, okay? Your idea was good. This guy was simply just too crazy."
Gavin dropped his gaze, not able to look into her eyes any longer. For him it didnât feel right to get forgiveness from her, "I should have been in your place instead. Two more scars on my body wouldn't make any difference to all the others I already have."
Yn stepped forward to search his glance, "You feel guilty, I get that. But ... you don't have to, okay? And beside, I know you and your luck. You would have been killed instead of just being injured.", a smirk playing on her lips.
Finally, Gavin looked at her again. He chuckled low by the face she made: a too overexcited grin to cheer him up. No matter how down he felt, yn was able to let him feel better. Always. Even just for a moment. He stepped forward and brought her into a bone crushing embrace, "It's so good to have you back.", he said softly into her hair.
Yn was surprised about the sudden outburst of emotions but she hugged him back, enjoying this moment to the fullest, "Yeah. And you know what? I can't wait to kick some asses with you again."

"He's here."
Crossing the Event-Horizon
That's what that's called. I've always thought that's the most beautiful way of putting it. The words have a certain ring to them.
Crossing the Event-Horizon
It means crossing the point of no return. That itself - the point of no return - could mean a lot of things. It could mean the beginning. It could mean the end. It could mean the infinite. It could mean life. It could mean death. It could mean war, peace, happiness, sadness, or anything in between.
But it means one thing for sure.
Crossing the Event-Horizon means there's no going back.
If I had to identify a beginning to the end of my story, then I think that little red dot on the map of time is where I'd stick my proverbial pin. That one little sentence, those two little words.
Yes, it was that moment, I think.
That was when it all started to go wrong.
"Felix is here," I said quietly, "He's outside."
I didn't know what I was going to do to get my revenge from that point. All I knew was, in order to kill Felix, I would need to get to him. And that meant getting away from Jack. Getting away from the son of the devil is something certainly easier said than done.
I would have to do it in a manner which would compel him and the Winchesters to come 'save me'. Of course, I could just knock Jack out and ditch him, but then I would have no back-up if things with Felix went sour. Now, if there was one thing I had learned in the five years leading up to my presence in that lighthouse, it was redundancy. It never hurts to have a safety net. Mine just happened to be a Nephilim.
"You remembered to lock the door, right?" Jack joked. I huffed a laugh. "We're safe in here. Don't worry, Marty. I'll protect you."
Isaac shook his head. "Felix has hostages. Two of 'em." He informed me.
"It's not me I'm worried about," I said to Jack, "This is a hostage situation."
The Nephilim's expression darkened and Isaac rolled his eyes.
"Personally, I say we go on the offensive. I mean, ya boyfriend here has more than enough juice to disintegrate seven dudes, right? Just waltz out there like we own the place, boom, clap, poof, TA-DA!"
"Ya know, that's actually not that bad of a plan," I said, nodding. I relayed the message to Jack who nodded.
"I could do it." He seemed confident.
"Felix brought six helpers. Have you ever dusted that many guys before?" I asked.
"I have, yes. Many more, in fact."
Well, that was... thoroughly disturbing. He seemed so calm about it. As if anyone who stood against him was nothing more than an obstacle. That could be me one day. That could be me tomorrow.
"Alright then, lead the way," I said, smirking.
Is it bad that I hoped something would happen to Jack? Nothing deadly, of course. Just something that would stop him from using his powers to take my revenge for me. Felix was mine. I needed to be the one to kill him. If Jack did it then what had been the point of it all? So, was it bad of me to hope that the quickest, cleanest solution wouldn't be the one that played out?
Was that wrong?
Did that make me evil?
Did I care if it did?
"Everything's going to be fine, Marty. You'll see." And Jack smiled at me softly and I wondered how long that would last.
I found myself standing beside him at the door to the lighthouse. My blood was boiling for a fight because this was it. Felix was on the other side of that door and in a few hours, I would be free, one way or another. Jack turned the handle.
Across the Event-Horizon.
A vampire, a ghost, and a Nephilim stepped out into the muggy night air. It sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, but it was more the beginning of a new era, at least for me. I stayed mostly hidden beside Jack, maintaining my air of powerlessness. Isaac stepped into place at the Nephilim's other side to match. I could feel the heat of Felix's presence bleeding through the space between us. He carried with him the foul stench of burning tar and just his scent made me want to wrinkle my nose.
He stood about ten feet away from Isaac, Jack, and me, flanked by six other vampires. There was no army, not that I had expected there to be - that wasn't how Felix worked. He didn't need an army, he'd brought two hostages. Two humans knelt on the ground in front of each of Felix's lackeys, poised to die.
Felix's lips stretched into something that approximated a smile but his little ruse was transparent. I could see the hate simmering in his eyes.
"This little game of ours has been fun but a score still stands to be settled and its resolution, I do believe, is long overdue. There is no place left for you to run, child. Are you finally ready to face judgment for your crimes, Martina?" He said. A smile spread across my face to match his.
"Are you?" I challenged, leaving all human emotion out of my voice. I had been so afraid of him before, but that fear was in the past. I had come to witness true power, I had seen it up close and Felix Ashton Monroe was nothing in comparison. I wasn't afraid of him anymore.
"I suppose you'll just have to find that out," He said. "Now, I've just had a rather unsavory chat with one Samuel Winchester. Barbarians those boys are - him and his brother. I do so hope you'll remember the manners I taught you and come along like a civilized being."
"Ready when you are," Isaac reported. His Darth Vader figure was tucked safely in my boot and I counted the fact that Felix didn't know about him as one of the few advantages I had. Both Isaac and I knew that in order to keep that advantage my brother would have to suffer through being dragged behind a car via his attachment to the figure to prevent Felix from noticing his presence. We had decided a long time ago that I wouldn't face Felix alone. Isaac had protested against us facing him at all.
It was ironic, really. He was the ghost, yet out of the two of us, I was the vengeful one. See, Isaac had never sought revenge against Felix. The only person Isaac wanted vengeance against was himself. He sought punishment for his failure to keep me safe, to keep any of us safe. I suppose he got his wish. Ever since that night, Isaac remained trapped on earth with what was less of a mission and more of a duty. To keep me alive. If one looked at it properly, that was another advantage. Isaac had been formidable when he was alive, but as a vengeful spirit and with a threat on my life to power him up, Isaac was alarmingly deadly.
I didn't need to send him a discreet nod to acknowledge his words. The two of us had been preparing for this moment for five years. We knew our roles. We knew what we had to do.
"Marty isn't going anywhere with you," Jack cut in, his voice firm.
"You're Jack Kline I presume," Felix said in his usual drawling tone. His voice too reminded me of tar with the way it oozed lazily around his words. Everything about him was so clean and sharp yet somehow it was all horrifically revolting.
"I am, yes." Jack nodded. He was trying to sound confident and authoritative, mimicking Sam or Dean or Castiel. But he wasn't like them, it wasn't in his nature. Jack was too soft. Felix regarded him with a smirk, studying the boy in a calculating manner as if Jack were merely a rare antiquity he was appraising in an effort to determine its value.
"The boy born to rule..." He hummed, drawing out the words almost reverently. "Yer smaller than the rumors describe ye to be."
"So are you," Jack replied, standing up straighter and lifting his chin confidently.
"Oh, I'm afraid not." That slime ball cracked a smile. "I'm much too careful to allow for rumors of my physical appearance to drift beyond my reach."
"Really?" Jack challenged. "Because it seems like Martina found us. She told us everything about you."
Felix just laughed like he was talking to something as insignificant as a flea.
"Do ye never listen, young one? I said I don't allow rumors to drift beyond my reach. Seeing as Martina is standing directly ahead of me, I'd say she is well within my grasp. That which is mine does not escape me, laddie. She knows that better than anyone," Felix said.
"If you're so careful, then why come here yourself?" Jack asked, struggling to remain impassive. He didn't really have a poker face.
"Why, because unlike an amateur I actually quite enjoy getting my hands dirty every now and again. Especially with a vendetta this personal. Isn't that right, Martina?" Felix taunted. "Will you be coming willingly or not?"
"I said you can't have her," The half-angel forcefully growled. Jack pushed me behind him, shielding me from my creator's gaze.
"Is that so? I was unaware you had a choice in the matter," Felix accosted, seemingly amused. "Were your circumstances not clearly implicit in the situation? No? Very well! If you insist against using so much as a modicum of intelligence, I suppose I'll have to explain this situation to you. See, these dirty, pathetic excuses for intelligent life forms you see trembling before you are called humans, dear boy. I hear you're quite fond of them, and today they are playing the role which we in the criminal world usually refer to as the hostage. Now, their miserable little lives are in your hands, Jack. I am a man of my word thus I will gladly release them, alive and well, upon the prompt return of my property. However, I will not hesitate to rip them both to shreds right in front of you if I don't get my way. Do you understand that , boy?"
Jack didn't respond. He appeared torn between protecting me and saving the lives of the hostages.
"Good," Felix droned, "Now, are you ready to leave, Martina dear?"
" You don't get to speak to her ," Jack snarled. His teeth snapped together with an audible click as he threw his arm out in front of me, not quite ready to give up. Felix rolled his eyes.
"Must we really do this the hard way?" He asked, boredom evident in his tone.
"Yes."
Felix tilted his head and his gaze flicked to me. I could see a hint of amusement in his expression.
"Tell me, lassie. Have you kissed him yet?" He chuckled. Then, abruptly, his expression darkened. "Or is he just that stupid? "
"Who says I did anything?" I replied evenly. Felix huffed, rolling his eyes.
"So you have?" He turned his attention to Jack who just seemed confused. "Did you enjoy it, me boy? If you'll recall, I did wish you a very exciting first, did I not?"
"Marty, what's he talking about?" Jack asked, doubt wavering in his voice. I didn't answer him. Felix was taking a chisel to the wall I'd built in that boy's head. Not causing enough damage to send it crumbling, but planting enough doubt for it to hurt even worse when it did.
"Ah, my devious little Martina," Felix sighed, shaking his head dramatically. "You're as predictable as you are appallingly cruel."
"Guess I learned from the best," I hissed, glaring at him.
"Does that mean you'll be sensible?" He asked, raising a brow.
"You're not taking her!" My angel boy yelled. "She's mine. " A shock ran through my bones as Jack's powers ignited and his metaphysical wings spread out in front of me in a terrifying reminder of what he truly was.
Felix didn't flinch. Instead, he chuckled.
"That's cute," He said, gesturing to Jack's massive wings. Then, he straightened the cuffs of his suit and sighed. From out of his pocket he retrieved a box of matches, pulling one out and striking it. He tossed the match lazily in front of him, the reflection of its tiny flame dancing in his eyes.
The match hit the sand and flickering orange flames erupted from where it landed. The fire spread outward in a ring that encompassed the entire lighthouse, trapping me, Jack, and Isaac inside.
Jack hissed through his teeth as he watched the flames die down. They were low enough to pass easily through, so how were they supposed to contain us?
"In case ye can't tell, that there is holy fire," Felix informed, tucking the matches back in his pocket. "Any angel who finds themselves encircled by holy fire is rendered powerless, and if one tries to step through those flames, one will be instantly vaporized." He looked up again, unimpressed. "Don't get smart with me, boy . I am thousands of years your senior. I'll do with that disgusting whore whatever I damn please."
"No, you won't !"Jack yelled. His wings flared out and a blazing golden light poured from him like molten metal. The air buzzed with a divine power that burned my skin from standing so close. He was like sunlight, and it burned. I cowered away but watched in awe as Jack's veins lit beneath his skin as if gold were pumping through them instead of blood. Because that's what Jack Kline was. He was power. With a sudden ferocity, the flames leaped up, roaring around his body in an effort to keep him trapped inside. But Jack did the impossible and stepped beyond the ring with a cry of effort.
Felix did not cower away as his underlings did; he merely tilted his head with slight interest.
"How intriguing," He mused, folding his hands in front of him. "Tell me, lad. How did you manage that?"
Jack glared at Felix, his chest heaving, for I could tell that act had caused him pain.
"I'm not an angel."
Jack raised his hand, poised to snap the monsters all into dust.
"Oh, I wouldn't do that if I were you," Felix half-heartedly warned.
"Why not?" The Nephilim ground out.
The vampire smiled coolly. "Because these fine specimens here are not my only hostages." Of course, he had more. He was always prepared.
"Where are the others?" Jack demanded, eyes flaring.
"They're safe and sound, I assure ye. Unless, of course, you try to do somethin' stupid, such as kill me. If that's the case, and I do hope it's not, then my people have orders to do some rather unsavory things to a room full of children." Felix raised a brow, daring Jack to make a move against him.
"I can save them," Jack said, confident.
"Please! Ye don't even know where they are!" He scoffed. "Do what ye must, Jack Kline. But I really do fear for the children." Jack gritted his teeth but said nothing. He knew he was beaten. "That's better." Felix turned his attention to me. "Give up this pitiful act of yours, Martina. Come on out. You know this is checkmate."
I stepped away from Jack and stood tall, allowing the thing that had made me to see the steel in my eyes. I passed Jack and planted myself in front of Felix.
"This isn't checkmate, Monroe. This is merely check. I'll be damned before I walk into something with no way out, you know that better than anyone." My voice was calm and cool and I let it chill him. It was my real voice, not that other one I always used to put people at ease. My real voice was the one that makes people do what I want.
The corner of Felix's mouth twitched up. "Oh, yes. I know." He leaned down, his face merely an inch away from mine. "I'm looking forward to it."
"So, where's the car?" I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.
"Right this way, m'dear." He gestured towards the dirt road a ways away and started toward it. I began to follow but Jack's voice made me stop.
"You're a monster," He spat, shaking with rage. His pained expression had morphed into one of hatred and his glowing golden eyes fixed on Felix.
Felix twisted around, mildly amused more than anything.
"Empathy, humanity, and morality make you weak, boy. Alas, weakness is a bitch , isn't it?" He smirked, basking in the pain he caused.
"I SWEAR I WILL KILL YOU!" Jack screamed. His power flared with his anger but there was nothing he could do. The absolute helplessness and hopelessness of his situation finally dawned on him. He never could stand feeling helpless.
"Hold on, I'm confused. Is that not what you do ?" Felix jeered, lifting a brow. Jack froze, his eyes going wide and puppy-like as the vampire's words hit him in the heart. His rage and power dimmed.
"W-What?" Poor thing. His voice sounded so small. He had never been made for this.
"You're the Winchester's attack dog, are ye' not?" Felix clarified. "Playing judge, jury, and executioner for anything you deem a monster."
"You are a monster," Jack scowled, clenching his fists.
"Oh, I know that!" Felix laughed. "But I like to think I've done quite a bit to earn me that title. There are, however, six quite innocent and quite human patients in critical condition at a Manhattan hospital. Six patients, who you put there. Those weren't monsters now, were they?"
Jack's face paled. Sam and Dean had said everyone was fine. Sam and Dean had lied. "H-How did- How did you-"
"That was some stunt you pulled in Times Square, boy," He mused. "Did you really think I wouldn't know about it?"
"Th-that w-was... I-it wasn't... I didn't mean to I-" Jack shook his head in denial. "It was an accident!"
"Why, of course it was!" Felix laughed. "You've not a malicious heart nor the disposition to take an innocent life. Dear boy, you are but a loaded gun for the Winchesters aim at anything they don't like."
Jack shook his head. "T-that's not true! I kill things that are evil because they hurt people." His words sounded hollow like they were something practiced. Like something that had been pounded into him.
"Do ye now? Because as I recall, you killed your own mother and ye' don't even know why. Sad, that." Felix smiled. "You kill because you were bred to; it's your purpose. It's almost cute, the son of the devil thinking he's a hero."
"I am ! I'm a hunter!" Jack insisted.
"You are not a hero," Felix sneered, shaking his head. "You are a murderer, Jack Kline. What else could ya be?" The Scottish man turned on his heel, not caring much to hear what the Nephilim had to say.
"Y-you're wrong. You're wrong about me!" That was all Jack could force out. He tried so hard to keep the tears at bay. I shook my head and turned away from him to follow my creator. "M-Marty?" Jack called out from behind me, his voice laced with desperation and confusion.
I stopped.
In that moment, I finally stripped away the final pieces of the human girl I'd made for him. The girl I'd designed for him to love. Jack would never see her again. That girl was gone now. And good riddance to her; I hoped she'd never come back.
Because she was weak.
And I was not.
Because she was human.
And I was a monster.
Because she was kind.
And I was cruel.
Because she was innocent.
And I was insane.
Because she was honest and grateful.
And I was a deceitful manipulator.
Because she was the blissful mirage.
And I was the horrid reality.
Because she was perfect.
And I never could be.
Because Jack Kline loved that sweet girl.
But that girl wasn't ME.
She never had been.
Of course, I still loved him which only made this harder. But I supposed that in a few hours that would be of no consequence. He wouldn't care. And that fact hurt like a needle to the heart, but pain only brings power to those with nothing left to lose. So, I threw my head back and I laughed as I embraced that pain, just as I did for every other cut and bruise I had ever received. That needle was one in a million and all that pain was what made me real. So, I sighed and turned back to where my angel boy stood, staring at me like some lost puppy.
"I'm sorry, Jack," I said sweetly, "Thanks for getting me this far, I don't think I could have done it without you. Unfortunately, this is something I have to do on my own. This is my last page and nobody can write it for me."
"You can't go," He said, shaking his head. There were tears in his eyes but none in mine. I smiled at him and that was the first he'd seen from me that was real, because, for the first time, Jack was talking to me.
"Why are you worried, Jack?" I was surprised at how smooth and pleasing my own voice sounded, now that I took notice. My real voice was why I was dangerous; when I used it I could make anyone do anything. But there was a reason I had been masking it for so long. It was what had gotten me into this in the first place. "I know you'll come to save me."
"What if I'm too late?" He asked, his voice breaking.
"Then I'll be there waiting for you," I answered.
"You'll die," Jack whispered. I laughed lightly, shaking my head.
"I'm not going to die today, Jack."
"You don't know that!"
"I've known for longer than you think," I said. I watched his teary, desperate expression and copied it to my memory as best as I could. It was the last time he'd look at me that way. At least for a while. "Just do me one last favor?"
"Anything," Jack promised.
"There's a girl you haven't met yet, try not to hate her when you do." I smiled and Jack nodded, trying his best to stay strong.
Then I left him there.
Alone in the sand, he watched a stranger he thought he loved going to what he thought was her death and vowed to save her from it.
Was it wrong for me to deceive him?
Did I care if it was?
***
Sam paced back and forth along the length of the lighthouse as he waited for Dean and Castiel to return. Every few minutes or so he would check his watch anxiously and run a hand through his hair, muttering something unintelligible under his breath before he resumed his pacing.
But Jack wasn't paying attention to that. He was busy staring at his hands. There were too many thoughts racing through his head for him to focus on any one of them. It had all happened so fast and there was nothing he could have done, but it didn't feel that way. Jack felt responsible. Martina was going to die because of him. It was his fault.
It was always his fault.
The door of the Lighthouse burst open, revealing Dean and Cas standing there in the driving rain that had come on before anyone had time to notice. Dean threw himself inside and Cas trailed after him, taking the time to close the lighthouse door while Dean shook the rain off like an oversized dog.
"What took you so long?" Sam was immediately questioning. "Where were you?"
"Gettin' information," Dean smirked. "It took a while, but one of the bloodsuckers squealed. What happened here, Jack?"
"I kissed Martina," Jack blurted out.
"What?" Sam, Dean, and Cas asked in unison, sharing the same disbelieving expression.
Jack hadn't meant to say it but it just sort of came out. It probably wasn't his fault, though. Jack simply couldn't stop thinking about every detail of his time with the girl in the lighthouse. He wanted to focus on what had happened after, but his brain simply wouldn't cooperate.
"I, um... I kissed Martina..." He repeated, somewhat nervously. "And I think I liked it..."
Had he liked it? Jack thought so; he was pretty sure. But something about it felt off.
Why had he kissed her in the first place? What had compelled him to do that? Jack didn't know.
His memories of the kiss were strange. He remembered clearly the emotions he'd felt, and the intensity of them. Yet, for some reason, Jack couldn't seem to recall where those feelings had come from. He had wanted to kiss Martina, but not like that... Or... maybe he had? It felt to Jack as if the decisions he'd made weren't his own. He couldn't even remember making any decisions, really. All he remembered was those feelings and acting on them. Something about that seemed off to him but Jack wasn't sure. He supposed it wasn't that out of the ordinary for him to behave impulsively. On the contrary, he tended to do that quite a lot. So, what was bothering him?
"Wait..." Dean paled, "You and Marty... You- You two didn't, like... do it in a lighthouse, right?"
Jack tilted his head, brows furrowing. "Do what?"
"C-Cas?" Dean's face whitened another shade as he turned to the seraph. "Please tell me your son didn't-" Castiel gave a long-suffering sigh.
"No, Dean. I really don't think they did anything," He said, rolling his eyes.
"Not everyone is like you," Sam added. Dean waved him off.
"Yeah, okay, but why am I the only one gettin' weirded out by this?" He exclaimed.
"Because we have bigger problems, Dean!" Sam pointed out, exasperated. Sam seemed anxious and Jack wondered what he wanted to tell them.
"Well, I think this is pretty big!" Dean insisted, turning to Jack. "Dude, what the hell?"
"I don't understand what you mean. Martina and I kissed." Jack said simply.
"Dean, seriously. I-" Sam tried. Dean held up a hand, sighing.
Dean sighed. "Jack... Y-You don't do that."
"Dean! Listen-"
"Not now, Sam!" Dean cut him off again.
"Why not? Jack asked, frowning.
"Look, ya just- Ya gotta wait a little while, man!" Dean said, running a hand over his face. "I mean, Marty's like, twelve!" He insisted. By then, Sam had decided he'd had it.
"No, Dean! She's really not!" The younger Winchester yelled, throwing his hands in the air.
"What?" Dean was shocked by his brother's sudden outburst. Sam took a deep breath to calm himself now that he had everyone's attention.
"Martina's not as young as we think she is. I-I think she's older, m-much older." Sam said, stress leaking into his tone.
"What are you saying, Sam?" Cas asked.
"I'm saying we've been played."
***
The car ride was smooth and it was the first time I'd been in a limo, so naturally, I took the comforts offered me. I stretched out across the seat, lounging as I stared out the tinted window. I didn't worry about Felix sitting directly across from me. I knew he didn't want to kill me. Not yet anyway.
"I'm curious, how did you manage to fool them?" He asked, watching me with a comfortable expression.
I shrugged. "Long story, lots of boring details."
"Indulge me," He insisted.
"Why should I?" I asked. He shrugged, mimicking me.
"I'm simply curious."
I hummed. "I bet you are."
He smirked. "Well, what can I say? It's just my nature." I nodded vaguely, continuing to stare out the window. We both knew how this would end. There was no real reason not to tell him.
"Sam Winchester and Dean Winchester and the angel Castiel..." I said their names thoughtfully, allowing the corner of my lips to twitch up into a sly smile. "They seem so simple at first glance. You have the poor unfortunate soul who lost so much yet kept his kindness, the perfect killer who spent his whole life at war, and the fallen angel who found a home. But if that was all there was then I never would have fooled them. However, for men who claim to be so faithless, there's so much they want to believe in."
"Whot do ye mean?" Felix asked, tilting his head. I smirked lazily. T
"I'll start with Sam. Sam is kind because he's damaged, but the last thing he is is a fool. When someone's good at unraveling lies, the last thing you do is give them a really big one to unravel. If you do that, then they'll cut right through and they'll figure you out easily. So, what do you do? You give them distractions. Hide puzzles within puzzles and Sam will stop to solve each one because he loves it. But how do you get him to ignore the big picture?" I stopped and grinned.
"It's easy really. All I had to do was appeal to his hate. Sam Winchester is so extraordinarily full of such raw and powerful hate, that if you simply aim it at a conceivable target, he can ignore anything else. And of course, with his hate blinding him to the truth, Sam can't figure out the lie. All one has to do to fool Sam is give him a puzzle to solve and something to hate.
"So, I made him hate you."
***
"How?" Castiel asked, tilting his head.
"It's Marty. We can't trust her," Sam said. Dean scoffed
"After all that lecturing earlier? Why the hell not?" He demanded. Sam took a nervous breath.
"Because she's been lying to us, Dean," He said. "I-I think she's been lying to us this whole time."
Dean's jaw clenched and he crossed his arms over his chest. "What are you talking about, Sam?" His voice was tight and guarded.
"I talked to Felix after I saved the little girl," Sam admitted.
"You just stood there and talked to that son of a bitch! He's a sick, messed up, psychopath! Sam, what the hell is wrong with you?!" Dean yelled. Sam held out his hands in a peacemaking gesture.
"I know w-what he is, Dean. A-and, believe me, I thought the same things you are now and I swear it was over the phone a-and all he did w-was tell me things. But-" Sam hissed through his teeth and tugged at his hair, seemingly at war with himself.
"But what, Sam?"
"I don't know. He- he just-"
"You don't know?!" Dean interrupted accusingly.
"H-He said things, alright! Felix told me things. Things about Marty. A-and they- they made - They just made so much sense! And I hate him just as much as you do and I don't wanna believe him but-" Sam's voice faltered and he shook his head seeming lost.
"What did he tell you?" Castiel pressed, gentle but still firm.
"He told me Martina killed his wife."
***
"Now, Dean? Dean's a little harder," I said as the driver made a sharp left-hand turn. "Dean's not just a hardened killer, though that's mostly what he wants people to see. He wants people to see the machine without a heart so no one will see how horrifically broken he really is." Thinking of what Dean was really like made me laugh and I flicked my gaze at Felix. "And believe me when I say that there's nothing that could fix him by now."
"But there's so much more to him than the killer and the brokenness. Dean's the righteous man who's never known a day away from war. There are so many things he wants so desperately. Dean dreams of walking peacefully along a beach yet he's never even been to one. For all he's never had Dean tries to give it to others. For all the blood and death he's seen he's remarkably full of love. Love is the key, really. Dean Winchester loves more powerfully than anyone I've ever met. If Dean loves someone he'll do anything for them.
"He sees my age and sees in me the child he never was. He sees me afraid and wants to provide me the protection no one gave him. He sees me flinch when someone yells and wants to offer me the security he never knew. He sees an orphan and wants to give me the parental love he never had. All one has to do to fool Dean Winchester is give him a child to love.
"So, I made him love me."
***
"And you believed him?" Dean scoffed. "Marty is a kid, Sam! She's a kid! Just a scared kid who needs our protection! Marty never could have done something like that."
"Why not?" Cas spoke up. All eyes snapped to the angel.
"BECAUSE SHE'S A KID!" Dean roared. Jack flinched away from him, he'd always hated when Dean yelled. It scared him. Though, this time Dean sounded less angry and more desperate. As if there was something he didn't want to believe. As if yelling the words would make them true.
"T-that's what I thought too. But what if we're wrong?" Sam asked.
"How could we be wrong?" Dean demanded.
"What if Marty's not a kid?" Sam carefully spoke, "What if she's not human?"
Dean shook his head. "No," He said, "No, you're wrong. I know what you're thinkin' and you're wrong." Jack shook his head too. There was no way... was there? Something itched at the back of his mind. He didn't know what it was. Did he want to?
"Dean, I know this is hard to accept, but we need to think this through," Sam said, holding his hands out beseechingly.
"We don't have time for that!" Jack spoke up. "Felix is going to kill Marty! We can't just let her die!"
Sam held up a hand. "He's not gonna kill her, not for a while. We have time."
"No, you don't get it! I promised I'd save her!" Jack said.
"Exactly!" Sam pointed out. "Jack, that's exactly what she wants! She's been planning this the whole time."
"What do you mean 'the whole time'?" Dean inquired, crossing his arms.
"Think back to the beginning, w-when we first met Marty," Sam said, walking them through it. "Why were we in Copper Harbor?"
"For a ghost hunt," Jack answered, impatience leaking through his tone.
"You're right, but there was another case there. What was it?"
"Blood was being stolen from the hospital..." Cas said slowly as if remembering.
"Exactly! Exactly." Sam took a breath. "Now, that ghost in the viral video, who was it? Was it whoever's bones we burned?"
"No, it was..." Jack made the connection. Why hadn't he noticed that before? "It was Isaac."
"Okay, so that means..." He trailed off.
"That Marty was lying about the hunt and the bones," Cas finished.
"Right, now why would she do that?"
"I dunno, professor. Maybe so we wouldn't torch her brother?" Dean rolled his eyes.
Sam pursed his lips, sighing. "Well, yes, b-but no! This isn't about Isaac, this is about Marty. What would she have been hiding?"
"The blood theft," Cas said decisively. Dean shook his head.
"That's a coincidence. Marty can't be - She can't-" He couldn't even say it. He could hardly think it. "Marty can't be a vampire."
***
"Castiel was harder," I continued. "Aside from the fact that he's a multi-billion-year-old cosmic being, Castiel also lacks a soul. That made tapping into his emotions significantly more difficult, but once I did that it was quite clear that I could never fool him. At least, not directly. He's intelligent, not easily deceived, and he always tries to do what he thinks is best. Whatever that course of action might be, more often than not, it hasn't been the right one.
"Castiel is, primarily, a screw-up. There's a lot of history and even more drama involving his fellow angels and the Winchesters, and he has consistently attempted to fight for both sides of the war between them. His torn loyalties have caused a great many more problems than they've fixed and it seems as though any attempt to fix one of said problems breeds yet more chaos. Castiel is rebellious. He can never seem to do what he's supposed to. So, naturally, that makes him the most dangerous piece on the board.
"When Castiel sets his mind on something, there isn't much that can sway him. His actions have proven, repeatedly I might add, that he is even willing to go behind the backs of the Winchesters if he believes it's for the greater good. But his destructive pattern stops only for the one person he's never betrayed. Thus, to fool Castiel one has to fool his son.
"So, I got my hands on Jack."
***
"Why not?" Cas snapped.
"'Cause she just can't!" Dean's voice broke.
"She single-handedly killed five vampires, Dean! Remember?" Cas pressed. "There's no way a mere child her age could have done that."
Jack shook his head, refusing to believe it. "Marty can't be a vampire. Dad, she just can't be."
Castiel sighed, his eyes soft. "I know you want to believe that."
"Why shouldn't we?" Dean challenged.
"Because she killed five vampires single handedly! What part of that escapes your understanding?!" Cas repeated with frustration.
"We don't know what happened in there!" Dean persisted.
"Exactly! WE DON'T KNOW!" Cas yelled.
"THEN WE CAN'T ACCUSE, CAN WE?" Dean shouted back. Jack flinched again and Cas took notice, forcibly relaxing his posture in hopes of reassuring his son.
Sam groaned. "Look at the facts, Dean. The research!"
"Damn the research, Sammy! This is Marty! We know her!"
"We know she's an empath!" Sam spat. "She's been playing with all our emotions, we know that! We need to look at this objectively and, as hard as that might be, it means looking at the facts!"
"What about the facts?" Dean asked reluctantly.
"Think about it," The younger brother said. "W-we did the research, remember? Remember how none of it lined up?"
"Yeah, because Felix messed with it!" Dean tried.
"Not all of it," Sam pointed out, "Marty said she was nine when she died, but her youngest brother was ten. Remember that? How could she have been younger than her youngest sibling?"
"Sam, that-"
"Because she wasn't, Dean," He hissed, "She wasn't nine. Marty was sixteen."
"I-I remember..." Dean froze, his eyes flicking up to meet his brother. "Sammy..." He said, his voice tense and shaking, "How did I forget that?"
Dread coated Castiel's tone as he answered instead.
"I think she wanted us to."
***
"Jack is a very special boy," I said, sarcasm lacing my tone. "Although, he is the offspring of a fallen archangel, so I'd assume that 'special' comes rather naturally. Thanks for that clue, by the way. It would have taken me much longer to figure him out if it wasn't for that itty bitty little detail."
"You would have gotten it regardless." Felix shrugged.
"Of course I would've!" I snorted, shaking my head. "I didn't think my abilities were of any question."
"They weren't," Felix replied. "I know what you're capable of, lassie."
I smirked devilishly. "You should." Felix's hand clenched into a fist and he sent me a tight smile.
"Indeed." He forced the word through his teeth. "Which is why I'm surprised you enlisted to lie to that boy so completely. Doesn't that violate whatever moral code of Donoghue's it is that you've adopted?" I nodded and shrugged with a sigh.
"You're right, it does. Jack is in many senses young and vulnerable and on top of that, he's dreadfully naĂŻve. He could never deserve what I did to him." I huffed out a humorless laugh as my face twisted into a sneer. "But you do. So I made an exception."
Felix shook his head as if disappointed. "Now, now, Martina. When one has a goal, one does not make exceptions. Lest they desire to fail, of course. Only hypocrites make exceptions. Did I teach you nothing?"
"I'm not like you," I spat.
"Is that what it looks like from where you sit?" He mused quietly. I flashed him a barred toothed grin and continued.
"There's only one that Jack Kline truly wants in this world. He wants to be good - to prove to himself and those around him that despite his parentage, he can be good. He's been told that there's something wrong with him, so he wants to find a way to somehow purge it. But he can't because there's nothing wrong and there never was. Yet, he can't believe that. So it leaves him with an insatiable desire to please.
"It's pathetic, really. He seeks validation in everything. He thinks he has to be useful to be loved. Otherwise, he's just a burden, one that nobody wanted. Jack doesn't want to believe that; he wants to be told that isn't true. Jack Kline may be powerful but he's also soft - moldable if you will. See, he's so haplessly needy that it's honestly sickening. He'll do anything for you to tell him what he wants to hear. And he'll do anything to keep hearing it.
"Jack is a combination of his three guardians. He's desperate. Like Dean, he doesn't want to see what's right in front of him. But he's not stupid. I had to erase his memory more than once. Then, like Sam, I simply distracted him and, much like Castiel, I had to keep him in line by appealing to that insatiable need of his. To fool Jack Kline one has to give him someone to save.
"He thinks he's saving me." I smiled fondly when I'd finished, glancing up at Felix with a challenge in my gaze.
"Well, we both know that's impossible," He said, eyeing me with a smirk, "There's nothing left in that cold shell of yours worth saving." I grinned, showing him the insane thing he'd created.
"You're damn right."
***
Then, like a memory, there were words running through Jack's head. Words and voices, but he didn't remember hearing them.
'You said you were nine then! But y-you - you weren't!' That was his voice in his ears. But Jack couldn't remember saying those words. 'You haven't aged a day... Five years and you haven't aged a day.'
'I aged about a month, actually.'
The other voice was Marty. The words buzzed like static, making his headache. Jack shook his head. It was like Deja Vue but entirely more vivid. Sam, Dean, and Cas kept talking. It was hard to hear them through the ringing in his ears.
"Cas, are you saying she can wipe memories?" Dean asked.
"I'm not sure," Castiel replied, shaking his head. "But she can certainly suppress them."
"But it-it must only work when she's around b-because when she's gone - I know for me - When Marty's not around I-I start to remember," Sam said.
The ringing in Jack's ears intensified, making him groan and grasp at his head. He clamped his hands over his ears but the ringing only grew louder. It was like angel radio, but instead of being surrounded by fire, Jack felt like he was burning from the inside out.
"Jack?" Cas was calling his name. "What's going on?"
"I-I don't- I-" Jack gasped, the pain growing stronger. "It hurts! Dad, please make it stop!"
"Jack? JACK!"
He stumbled into Cas's arms as another blurred memory hit him like a train.
'I'm gonna need you to forget that,' Marty's voice whispered in his head. She sounded so gentle, so inviting. She sounded like a spider.
'I wish I could,' His own voice shook as Jack listened to himself say words he couldn't remember speaking. It felt like a memory that didn't belong to him.
There was more to it this time. There was a picture frame, but the picture inside was out of focus. There was an image. It was Martina. She had fangs. And there was something else too. Jack could feel it like a phantom pain. It was terror. The paralyzing kind. The feeling of being trapped. Jack felt the shadow of limbs and he couldn't move. He was trapped. Jack couldn't get out. He was trapped like a fly in a web. Marty was the spider. He couldn't get away. He couldn't get away from her.
She wouldn't let him.
'I can make you forget,' She was going to hurt him. ' Take us back to the night we met. '
'What do you mean?' His voice asked cautiously. He was scared. He was so scared. He couldn't get out.
'I'm going to talk to you, and then you're going to forget, and everything will be back to the way it was.'
'You're a monster.' He'd said
The ringing in Jack's ears faded and he bolted upright, gasping and shaking as panic set in. He needed to tell Sam, Dean, and Castiel what he'd remembered but he couldn't seem to find the words.
"S-She lied." That was all he could force out.
"Jack, what happened? Are you okay?" Castiel worried, checking over him. Jack just shook his head.
"She did something to me," He choked out, shaking. "I don't know. I can't remember. Why can't I remember? She did something to me!" He felt sick. There was something wrong with him.
No.
There was something wrong with Marty.
She was sick.
"What? What did she do?" Dean demanded, eyes wide.
"She-She made me forget. I knew. I-I knew and she made me forget!"
"Forget what?" Sam asked.
"I figured her out a-and she made me forget but I remembered." Jack stopped and only then did he realize he was crying. "She's one of them."
Because she had betrayed him. Marty had betrayed all of them. Jack didn't even know what to believe anymore. Had any of it been real? Or was it all some twisted lie?
"I'm sorry, Jack," Cas offered quietly.
"You were right, Sam," Jack whispered. He couldn't stop his voice from shattering. "Martina is a monster. A-And she lied."
There was silence for a moment. Then, Dean spoke up. Because someone had to take the lead and it was always him. It wasn't fair, but it was always him.
"We gotta go," He said, struggling to make his voice sound cold and firm. But he'd lost a daughter today.
"W-Where?" Sam asked.
"Me and Cas know where Felix is taking Marty. That kid's got some answering to do," Dean answered, his green eyes darkening with his tone. Castiel stood, helping Jack climb to his feet.
"Martina is dangerous, Dean. Are you sure you're willing to do what may be necessary?" Cas asked, watching Dean with a somber expression.
"It's not gonna come to that," Dean said.
"And if it does?"
"I will." Jack's voice was quiet but it caught the adult's attention.
"Jack, are you- Are you really sure?" Cas asked gently. Jack shook his head.
"I don't want to kill Martina. But you're right, she is dangerous." His voice faltered. "I can't let her hurt anybody else."
***
Felix's limo pulled into the garage of what was easily a multi-million dollar home. It was four stories and it reminded me of a castle with its dull grey stone and tall windows. The interior of the garage was constructed simply of polished cement and was entirely empty aside from the car now parked within it. I sent Felix a smirk and climbed from the vehicle, slamming the door shut behind me. The car was surrounded. Twenty or so of Felix's vamps stood guard but I knew they were more for display than anything else. Some of them I recognized, some I didn't.
"And here I thought this little girl's night was just gonna be you and me," I huffed dramatically upon seeing them, "You had me feeling all special."
"Sorry to disappoint, Lassie," Felix drawled. "But don't worry, I invited some of your friends too. Well, just one to be exact."
I shot him a curious glance but shrugged before sauntering my way past Felix's lackeys like I owned the place. I supposed I had, but that was so long ago. Were his minions really still so afraid of me? I surveyed one of the vamps as I passed him, taking notice of the bead of sweat dripping down his neck. He was clearly terrified.
So, they remembered who their queen was. Good.
Spinning on my toe like a ballerina, I let a bubbling laugh escape my throat. All of Felix's soldiers turned to face me, watching with careful eyes.
"Hello, Lovelies!" I called, grinning. A few of them shifted nervously. "Just thought you all should know, both your beloved Prince and Princess are dead! I killed them!" Murmurs spread around the empty garage, echoing off the polished grey walls. "That's right! Boyd's head I ripped off with a tractor, though I'm sure your leader was glad to finally be rid of his bastard son." I glanced at Felix who stood there stoically and winked. "I knew about that, by the way. As for Elwyn, I had the Devil's son snap her into dust like Peter Parker in Infinity War. 'Cept she ain't comin' back!" I giggled in reaction to the horrified expressions of Felix's soldiers and send the man himself a smirk before whipping around again.
"Ye know, Martina?" His voice made me pause though I kept my back to him. "I look at you and I don't see anyone looking back..." He trailed off, his tone thoughtful. "Where is that soul you used to have?"
"Just like I told your daughter, I lost it in the woods in favor of something else. You wanted me to learn something and I learned it!" I eyed him over my shoulder. "You never should have sent me there."
"I know that now." Felix sounded almost solemn. "Whatever Sampson brought back with him wasn't the girl I tossed in, was it?"
I shrugged. "That's where you're wrong. It's still me. Like I said, I just learned something over there is all."
"And what did you learn?" He wondered.
"That you were wrong."
"It doesn't seem I was," He said. I chuckled softly.
"You said I was made to be a queen. You were wrong."
"Aye?"
"I'm not a queen, Monroe." I turned to face him. "I'm a damn Empress." I grinned. "And, honey, you should see me in your crown."
I didn't bother to watch his expression. I just turned and walked.
Pushing my way through the garage door, I skipped down a long, dark hallway decorated with dark wooden pieces that I was sure had cost more money than they were worth. I smirked upon hearing Felix's footsteps trailing behind me. Whirling around and walking backward, I grinned at my former torturer.
"Got anything you didn't wanna say in front of your minions?" I taunted.
"I do, actually." He huffed a laugh that held no humor. "For the record, I'm sorry."
My expression soured. "No you're not."
"I am, truly." He placed his hand over his heart in a gesture of sincerity. "I apologize for my greed and my stupidity. I unleashed you upon this world; that will be my greatest regret, I think. I made you into a plague and I lost control over you."
"You never controlled me," I hissed.
"And I the second I realized that I should have put you down," Felix said. "I just hope the Winchester's don't make the same mistake."
I shook my head. "That's the think, Felix. They will."
"Perhaps. Perhaps not." He shrugged.
"I guess I'll find out, won't I? So! Where's this friend of mine?" I asked, rubbing my hands together.
"Two doors down on your right," Felix answered. I glanced at the door he was referring to then back to him.
"Ooh, goodie. Before I open it, why do I get a present?"
Felix shrugged. "Call it a joke."
I nodded. "Dope."
Then I skipped over to the dark wooden door and grasped the handle. It wasn't locked, of course, so I pulled it open. I didn't look for traps. I knew Felix would never stoop that low. The room was pitch black and there were no windows, but I found the light switch easily enough. Bright fluorescent bulbs flicked on and washed the space with light.
Sitting on a wooden chair in the middle of the room, was a rather muscular man. His arms and legs were tied to the chair and his head was tilted down. I may not have been able to see his face, but I would have recognized that old, grungy cap almost anywhere. I crossed the space between us and tapped him on the shoulder. The man inclined his head, squinting against the light, but when he caught a glance of my face, his usually bright eyes filled with terror.
I had forgotten how fun it was to instill that level of fear. I smirked.
"Hey there, Benny! I haven't seen you since the Hunger Games!"
~We'll never get free Lamb to the slaughter What you gon' do When there's blood in the water? The price of your greed Is your son and your daughter What you gon' do When there's blood in the water?
Beg me for mercy Admit you were toxic You poisoned me just for Another dollar in your pocket Now I am the violence I am the sickness Won't accept your silence Beg me for forgiveness~

"I didn't really have your typical upbringing. I mean, I did at first, but then the world ended. I mean, I don't think anyone was really shocked. We always thought it might, and then it just finally happened. But how it happened, now that's where it gets interesting."
"Agatha 616."
"Hey! I wanted to be the one to say that. You totally just stole my thunder, Robin. As disappointing as that just was, she's right. Yep, an asteroid heading straight for Earth. I know. So obvious. So, humanity came together, and we did what we do best."
"We shot a bunch of rockets at it!"
"And we blew it up! And it was great!"
"But it wasn't."
"Once again, she's right. You see, the thing that makes rockets rockets. . .chemical compounds, a lot of 'em. Which rained back down on us, and everything changed."
"And by 'everything,' he means cold-blooded creatures. And by 'changed,' he means mutated and started eating us to death."
"Ants, lizards, roaches, crocodiles. You name it. There's a lot of 'em. Actually, we knew this one kid who was eaten in his sleep by a goldfish he won at a carnival."
"Poor Todd."
"He loved that goldfish."
"And that cat of his that got eaten."
"Rest in piece, buddy. So, for most of human history, if you wanted to kill a cockroach, right, all you needed was a shoe. Well, suddenly you needed a shotgun. And sometimes even a tank. And sometimes even that doesn't work. Especially if you don't stay in the tank, Bob."
"Bob?"
"I was just saying a random name. I don't know if his name is actually Bob."
"Then whyâ?"
"Y/N."
"Right. Your speech, not mine. Sorry."
"Eventually, the really big creatures and our military took each other out. We lost 95% of the human population in about a year. That's a lot of Bobs."
"And a lot of Todds."
"Exactly. Those of us who survived we hid anywhere we could â bunkers, caves, panic rooms, all around the world. So for the last seven years Y/N and I have been living in an underground bunker. And it's not as bad as it sounds. Really. It's a great group of people, and we all love each other. You know, it's kinda what I imagined college would have been like."
"Definitely not, but believe what you want. Anyways, like Joel said, we've been living in an underground bunker for the past seven years. It's not always been the best at times, but we do what we need to in order to survive. But for you to understand our story, we need to go back to the beginning. . .to the day it all happened."
"Seven years ago, back when we were sixteen."

Seven Years Ago
Fairfield, California
The last thing Y/N wanted was to wake up at 5:30 on a summer morning, yet that was exactly what happened on the day the world ended. The annoying beeping sounds filling the air were all Y/N could focus on as she came to, her eyes squeezing shut as she groaned in annoyance and shoved her face into the pillow she was laying on.
She lazily shot her hand out and attempted to reach for her alarm clock, but hesitated when her hand hit what she knew to be the lamp that sat on the table in her living room. Y/N let out a sigh before slowly opening her eyes and looking around. It took a moment for her to realize what was happening, but once she saw the tv that was still on, the pizza box laying on the table with only one slice left, and the figure beside her on the couch Y/N knew what had happened.
Groaning as she looked towards her best friend Joel Dawson who had passed out on the couch beside her, the girl lifted up a pillow before saying, "Joel. Joel, wake up." The boy didn't respond, the only noise escaping his lips being the sound of his own snores. His watch was beeping on his arm, but he didn't seem to be fazed by it.
Y/N frowned before taking the pillow she had picked up and whacking Joel with it. The boy jumped in surprise and fell off the couch and onto the floor. Y/N fell back with a satisfied sigh while Joel groaned on the ground.
"What was that for?" Joel complained, lazily sitting up and rubbing at his eyes while the two looked tiredly at each other.
"Shut that stupid watch up before I do it myself," Y/N murmured. "And by 'do it myself' I mean I'm going to destroy that little fucker so it can never beep again."
Joel cracked a small smile at that before looking down at his watch and turning it off. His eyes flickered over the time and he frowned. "It's 5:30 in the morning? Wasn't it just midnight?" he asked.
"I think we fell asleep during the middle of Civil War. That's what we get for trying to watch all the Marvel movies in a row with no sleep," she said with a yawn as she closed her eyes once again.
"We were behind anyways," Joel pointed out as he pulled himself up off of the ground and back onto the couch so that he could put on his shoes. "We wouldn't have finished before I had to leave. Speaking of which, I've got to go. Aimee should be picking me up soon and I smell like pizza and tears."
"It's not my fault you cry during almost every movie," Y/N retorted.
"They're just so good!" Joel argued making Y/N smile softly as she let her eyes open up long enough to admire the boy. He was tying his last shoe, so didn't seem to notice as she slowly ran her eyes over the features of his face. However, the moment he was sitting back up, Y/N closed her eyes to make it seem like she wasn't watching him.
Joel looked towards her and stared at her for a moment before smiling and reaching out for the blanket that was already falling off of her and onto the floor. He picked it up and shook off the crumbs from the food they had eaten before laying it on top of the girl.
"Why do you have to leave?" Y/N whispered, opening her eyes up a bit while Joel finished fixing the blanket and kneeled onto the ground in front of her. He leaned against the edge of the couch so that the two could be face to face. The lack of distance was enough to make Y/Nâs heart skip a beat, but she knew Joel wasn't thinking anything of it.
"I'm just going to go see Aimee for a little bit so that we can watch the sunrise. I'll be back after, okay?" Joel said. Y/N studied him for a moment before nodding her head. The boy grinned and pulled away to get up onto his feet again. "You try and catch up on some z's while I'm gone." Y/N nodded again and Joel leaned down to press a quick kiss to her forehead, an action that made the girl close her eyes in a moment of pure bliss. "I'll be back soon, Robin."
Y/N smiled softly at the nickname Joel had given her. He liked to refer to themselves as Batman and Robin and seeing as he had insisted he was Batman in their friendship, Joel had grown to call her Robin so much over the years that it now flowed off of his tongue naturally. Y/N had never bothered arguing with Joel about who was actually Batman, instead relishing in the way Joel would flash her that goofy grin of his when he called her Robin.
Y/N got too lost in her thoughts to notice Joel walking away until she heard the sound of the front door opened and closed. She opened her eyes for a moment, her heart sinking slightly as she thought about how Joel was leaving to be with his girlfriend Aimee. However, not wanting to dwell on the fact for too long, Y/N just closed her eyes and willed herself to go back to sleep.
Even after she fell asleep, her dreams were filled of nothing but her best friend who she had found herself falling for more and more since the second grade. Not that she was complaining. This was what her life usually was like. Y/N secretly pining over Joel while he dated other girls. It was hard to see, but Y/N knew that as long as he was happy, she would be happy even if it meant they didn't end up together.
Y/N slept for quite a while, hoping she would wake up to Joel returning and hopping back onto the couch with her. However, what she wasn't expecting was for the sound of an explosion to send her jolting off the couch while her whole house shook around her.
The girl fell to the ground with a groan, but her eyes shot open wide as the ground shook again and another explosion filled the air. "What-?" she whispered before slowly pulling herself up off of the floor and looking out the window. Her eyes widened at the sight of fire in the horizon and she felt a surge of panic wash over her as she heard the screams of people filling the air as families started running out of their houses.
"Mom! Dad!" Y/N called out, her parents running down the stairs not too long after that with their pajamas still on and their eyes still fighting away the sleep that had taken over them only a couple of moments before.
Y/N could barely process what was happening after that. The next thing she knew, they were all dressed and throwing their stuff into their car. Her parents were running around and arguing over what they actually needed, so the brunette took the time to look next door where Joel's house stood. Her eyes flickered over the scene, attempting to find her best friend but only seeing his parents.
"Y/N!" Mrs. Dawson exclaimed as she caught sight of the girl. She frantically ran across the yard to her, her hands grabbing onto Y/Nâs arms as she asked, "Where's Joel? WhereâWhere is he?"
"I-I don't know," Y/N admitted, her eyes wide with panic as she still tried to process what was happening. "He left to go see Aimee earlier this morning. He didn't tell me where they went."
Mrs. Dawson frowned and was just about to say something more when a red jeep came barreling down the road and stopped in front of the house. Mrs. Dawson released Y/N immediately while the girl let out a sigh of relief as she saw Joel stumble out of the car.
"I'm sorry!" Joel exclaimed, barely getting his feet onto the ground before Y/N was running at him and practically jumping into his arms for a hug. Joel didn't hesitate to hug her back, his grip tight as he looked towards his mother.
"Thank God! Where have you been, Joel?" his mother asked.
"We have to go right now. Say your goodbyes, get in the car," his father told them.
Y/N then seemed to noticed Aimee who was watching her warily as if she could see right through the girl's facade. She let go of Joel and squeezed his arm before nodding towards Aimee. "Go say goodbye to her. I'm going to finish packing up and then we can talk," she told him.
Y/N didn't give Joel time to respond before she was running back over to her house where her parents were now throwing the last of their things into the car. She helped toss a few more things into the car before closing the trunk with her father. "Go say goodbye, Y/N. We need to leave. Now," her father said causing Y/N to blink in surprise.
"Goodbye? Aren't we going with the Dawsons?" she asked.
"Honey, we don't know where we're going. Our priority is keeping you safe, not trying to stay with the Dawsons," her mother told her.
"Butâ" Y/N began.
"Y/N," her father sternly said. Y/N frowned slightly and then with a shaky breath turned to begin her way over to Joel who was staring after his girlfriend as she walked towards her jeep.
"Aimee!" he called out causing Y/N to slow down her steps as she caught sight of the look in his eyes. "I love you."
Y/N went rigid at that, the sound of Joel saying those words to someone else making her feel like she may be sick. Tears begin to spring in her eyes and she desperately tried to stop herself, but she couldn't help it. She knew Joel had dated other girls before, but hearing him proclaim his love for one was something she had never had to witness.
And it hurt.
"I love you too," Aimee told him.
"I'm gonna come find you," Joel assured her.
"You better," Aimee said before hopping into her jeep and driving away.
Y/N was still frozen in place, her tears now falling freely down her face while Joel looked her way. His heart broke at the sight of her and he didn't hesitate to run over and wrap her up in his embrace. "Hey, we're going to be okay," he whispered, thinking that her tears were because of them having to say goodbye and not because of the interaction he had just had with Aimee.
Y/N seemed to snap out of her trance at that and she gripped onto Joel tightly, her tears becoming worse as she realized this could potentially be the last time she saw her best friend. "Joel," she whimpered. "This can't be goodbye."
"Hey, hey," Joel said as he pulled away enough to wipe way her tears, his hands cupping the sides of her face. "It's not. We've survived everything together. I'm not about to let this stand in our way either. We're Batman and Robin, remember? We'll always find our way back to each other."
Y/N let her eyes flicker over Joel's face, a few more tears rolling down her cheeks before she held her hand out. "Batman," she said with a small nod.
"Robin," Joel whispered, nodding back at her as he clasped her hand with his own. They held onto each other tightly before Y/N hugged him one last time.
"I love you," she whispered, knowing very well that he didn't understand the true meaning of her words.
"I love you too. We'll find each other, okay?" he said before he noticed Y/Nâs parents anxiously staring at the pair. Sighing, Joel squeezed her tight one last time before pulling away and leaning forward to press a small kiss to her forehead. "Bye, Robin." And then he gave her that small goofy smile of his that only made her heart ache more.
"Bye, Joel," she whispered, allowing herself to look at him one last time before turning and running to the car her parents were already climbing into. Y/N didn't dare look back, knowing that if she did it would only make it that much worse.
We're Batman and Robin, remember?
We'll always find our way back to each other.
- - -
"Long story short, I was right and we did find each other again. Granted it took two weeks, butâ"
"Well, sorry. I didn't exactly have the colony there to pick me up when my parents died. I had to find you guys all on my own."
"And I see my mistake and I apologize. You did better than I ever could and I love you for it. You see, Y/Nâs been my best friend since we were in kindergarten. Some jerk named Harley thought it would be funny to shove me off the swing set and take the swing from me. Y/N thought differently and punched him so hard he flew off the swing as if he had purposefully jumped off."
"I got sent to the principal's office right after, but I gained Joel as my best friend, so it wasn't a complete loss."
"We've been practically inseparable ever since and not even the apocalypse was able to keep us apart for too long."
"And now that you all know how our story began and a little bit about us, we can skip ahead to where we are now, seven years later in an underground bunker."
"This is where our story really begins.â

Spoilers Ahead!
Hi, fellow bored humans! Today is another day to set aside our real-life problems and overthink matters about fictional situations. Because why not? Mochijun-Sensei can make us do that. So, last time I made a post questioning Misha's knowledge of Vani's self-hypnotism. So before anything else, I want to thank you guys who took the time to read, liked, and replied to that post. It is fun to read ideas that even I can not think about.
Grab a cup of coffee and be prepared for a long-ass non-sense.
I am calling human Vanitas = Vani, and Luna = Luna. The pronoun I use is "she" because I would not confuse myself. I know Luna said she is an enby so, do not fight me.
Today, I want to talk about Luna and her death. I know that we have too little information in our hands right now, but my brain cells can still assume something based on what we have. This thought came about with the premise that Luna is an Archiviste.
I can't think of anything that happened to them "that day", but I have a theory of why Vani killed Luna. To make things clear, I will summarize my assumptions and list them down. I made an explanation of each point. Supposedly, those would come first but I didn't expect it to be so long, that's why I decided to just put it at the end. You could ignore it if you want. Check it out if you are curious.
Luna is an Archiviste
Vani is protecting memory from his early childhood
Vani casts the hypnotism while/after he was training to be a chasseur but before Luna's death
Luna bit Vani the day she died
Do you see where I'm going with this?
Here is the idea: I think Vani killed Luna because she forced herself to drink Vani's blood for whatever reason and the self-hypnotism activated. Sound farfetched? Because it is, but I'll show you why I thought it this way.
This is my one and only proof. The eyes are almost the same, right? See, I told you I could make a long-ass post just from two panels. The left one is from the Bal-Masque arc before Vani made a scene. The right one is before Vani and Noe's death fight. I believe that Vani's hypnotism is triggered in both pictures. I actually hesitated if I should do this since Mochijun-Sensei really loves including similarities in the story. You see, Astolfo and Misha made the same eye. But all three of them have the same eyes the moment they thought about why they would kill a vampire.
Vani - to not allow anyone to steal his memory
Astolfo - because vampires shouldn't even exist
Misha - Noe didn't drink Vani's blood.
So yeah, whatever, I'll go ahead and write this one. Vani would be the main focus of this thing.
1. The way Vani's hallucination phrased this is interesting. We know Vani's father died protecting him. What about Luna? If Vani killed Luna intentionally or because of hate, she did not die "because" of Vani. Vani killed her. There's a difference between the two. Behind all that facade that Vani is showing, he's kind. He's not someone who could just kill anyone without any reason when he's in the right mind. Especially if that someone is the one who became his guardian and is helping him to find a cure to make his body normal. Initially, I thought that Luna had gone wild and reach the point of no return. That's why Vani had no other choice. Though if this is the reason, Luna still did not die because of Vani. Now, this phrase would only be right if Luna died protecting Vani or if something happened to Vani. How could this happen if she was killed by the one she's protecting. So, what if, instead of Luna going wild, Vani is the one breaking down. Thus, Luna had really no choice but to make Vani her kin. If she's an archiviste and Vani already casted the hypnotism. It would be triggered and so he had no choice but to kill Luna.
"You give yourself someone to protect that's why you're weak." -Vani to Jeanne
If Luna didn't save Vani and Misha, she might still be alive. If she chose to abandon or kill Vani (when Vani loses his mind), she might still be alive. But Luna chose to save him by making him her kin. She handicapped herself by choosing to protect Vani and she died by doing so.
2. Maybe Luna doesn't want to use this method because it involves blood drinking to leave her mark. If she's an Archiviste, perhaps her reason is the same as Noe does not drink blood "She doesn't want to look at anyone's memory without permission".
3.Vani was never an honest and straightforward guy. If there is someone/thing he wants to protect he wouldn't say it outright. Sometimes we would go full on beast mode, just to hide his real agenda. It already happened a lot (reread the manga for examples). So maybe the reason he strongly disagrees is that he knows that once Luna tries to bit her he would lose his mind and try to kill her.
4. This is just so heartbreaking. Look at how he cried. I think this is not a cry of relief. Vani is crying out of frustration. It's not because he wanted to kill Noe. For me, it's like Vani is saying "I killed Luna, why can't I kill now." I mean, he realized that this ordeal could be solved without killing the other party. But why didn't it happened before?
This is just a half baked theory so of course there are still things that could negate these panels:
If Luna is talking with Vani here, she makes him her kin even before dying. Since everything is so calm. Though I would ignore reality and think that Luna is talking with Misha here. I think that Misha became her kin first since he is breaking down first.
The flashback of Misha shouting at Vani, maybe this is just hallucinations. But if this is true, it means that they spent some time together after Luna's death. And yeah, all of this would be meaningless.
Explanation of each point
1. Luna is an Archiviste. The theory is already out there, so I wouldn't explain it anymore.
2. Vani is protecting memory from his early childhood & 3. Vani casts the hypnotism while/after he was training to be a chasseur but before Luna's death. Going back to my previous post, I mentioned that it is strange for Misha to know that Vani hypnotized himself if Luna is the one who begged Vani to not let anyone take his memory on her deathbed because:
a. The timeline doesn't coincide. The chance that Misha and Vani separated "that day" which is I believe the same day as Luna's death is high. So, there's no way Misha could know.
b. Misha forgot what happened "that day". However, it's not like Vani doesn't want Misha to remember. I don't know but I feel like everything would be civil if Misha didn't mention that he wants to revive Luna. That is the moment everything went a wrong turn.
It is likely that Luna already asked Vani days before "that day" and her death. The problem is if the three are together "why did she only ask Vani and not Misha?". Maybe, Luna and Vani have a shady secret that they don't share with Misha as he's too young. However, if the secret has something to do with Luna, Vani won't even mention something relating to it to Misha, I mean the kid knows exactly the trigger of self-hypnotism. Maybe Luna is not the one who asked Vani. I believe that someone already asked Vani before he entered the church to train as a chasseur. But "who" asked Vani is not my problem today it is "when".
So in short, I suppose that the memory Vani is protecting is something that only he knows at the moment, and it did not happen recently but goes way back in his early childhood. As retracexcviii pointed out, it looks like that the self-hypnotism technique Vani used is the same as what the chasseurs. So, Vani knows this technique way back before he became a lab rat.
Continuing on...
Don't judge but I wasted a considerable amount of time digging information about Vani's childhood (yup, I don't have a life outside). And I found nothing concrete that could help, however, as I said, I could make something out of what we have. So here we go.
In Vani's delirium due to high fever he finally opens up and we had a peak of his life before everything. There's nothing much here, just a simple story, but let's overanalyze this:
a. In the era theyâre living in, vampires are not allowed to attack humans. People are even treating them as folklore or old people's tall tales. Thus, random vampire attacks are seldom. The attacks that we heard are from the cursed ones (e.g., Amelia and Thomas) or harboring resentment (I think this is why the vampires attacked Astolfoâs family). Well, the attack on Vani and co. may be a special case. Vani mentioned that chasseurs are hunting "dangerous" types of vampires that are rampaging in the human world. So, there may be a miscreant group of vampires somewhere that hates peace or being suppressed by humans. Right, Misha's mother was also killed by a vampire.
b. When Misha asked what's a band of traveling players then Luna answered that it's a bit like a circus. Vani answered that "It was nothing like...that formal". He hesitated for a moment, meaning, he wanted to say something different first, but he changed his mind. Or maybe he just can't find the right word. I know that someone already mentioned this, but did you know that according to Wikipedia "Charlatan is a seller of medicines who might advertise his presence with music and an outdoor stage show." Now that's another thing to add to Vani and Naenia's parallel.
c. Vani thinks that his father doesn't like it there very much. So, why stay even if his wife is dead? Even if Vani's father could not go back to his family, he could still opt to cut ties with the band and settle down somewhere. He's a doctor, it's not like they would be helpless if they leave. Travelling is not a safe choice if you think about it. Perhaps, he stayed in the memory of his wife? Or are there other reasons?
d. This guy didn't just come to Altus ones before. "No matter when I visit" he already visited during different periods. The times he possibly could go in Altus is before his father's death and after Luna's death. Maybe Luna's going in secretly for whatever reason. I just want to drop it here because it's interesting to take note of.
e. I'm not sure if I should include this since it may be Luna's influence, but Vani knows way too much about vampires and also the babel incident. Also, Ruthven's statement just gives me a weird feeling. Does it mean "You an average human are running around doing ridiculous things, so tell me about 'yourself', kin of the blue moon vampire"? Or "without the context of being the kin of the blue moon vampire, tell about yourself?" I think it is the latter meaning.
There's nothing important here that proves Vani's childhood should be kept as a secret. But this will do for now, I just want to establish that Vani is more than just kin to the Blue Moon Vampire. His childhood, his father, family, and that traveling players are also suspicious. (Why the hell do I find everyone in this series suspicious?!? oh, except Amelia and Riche).
4. Luna bit Vani the day she died. I can't come up with anything that happened "that day". Did Luna has gone wild? Did someone attack them? Did Vani and Misha lose their mind as an effect of that weird doctor's experiment? There's really nothing but I think that whatever happened "that day" led to Luna's leaving no choice but to drink Vani's blood, or to make Vani her kin. There has no explicit explanation of how you make one your kin, but I'm sure drinking blood is included in the process. They would only gain a mark if they were bitten.
I'm actually not done yet. I still have plenty to say, but this should end here now. This is already too long for me to handle. Does this make sense? Or is it confusing? Don't hesitate to correct me if I'm wrong or tell me whatever you want to say.
So, if what Vani is saying is true, why do you think he killed Luna?
See ya' later folks!
Note: I wrote this to indulge my over-thinking self. This is just a random theory, thoughts, assumptions, and/or head-canons. Thank you for taking the time to read and understanding if I made any mistakes or post whatever it is you donât agree on.

Ch.7: Of burdens and duties (2)
Naruto is sitting at his desk when Hinata wakes. She just rustles and turns until she can see him from where she is and then stares. His back is curled and heâs reading some documents with his eyebrows furrowed and Hinata waits.
She waits till he looks at her. A glance, his eyes passing over her out of habit and then catching her eyes looking at him.
âGood morning,â he smiles and Hinata rises immediately. Walks over him on her knees, grabbing the bedclothes around her naked body.
Naruto receives her with open arms, his hands slide through her waist to her back and he brings her closer to him. âSlept good?â
She rests her head on his shoulder as she nods. Naruto is soft with her, moves her hair out of the way and lays kisses along her jaw. Hinata accommodates herself in between his legs and Naruto keeps on moving papers in front of him. He brings one out for her to read.
âWeâll be going to this one in a month,â he shares. Hinata looks at the document and nods in understanding.
âThe s-summit.â
âEver gone there?â
âNo⊠Neither has f-father. He thought it w-wasâŠâ
Naruto chuckles, âYeah, well, itâs more or less the Beast Tamers putting up a show to check on each other.â
Hinata reads the names written in there, guards and servants and an itinerary. She doesnât really know how to feel. She is excited to go there and actually see one of the biggest festivals the Beast Tamers have to offer, but now she is part of them and it meansâŠ
Naruto moves his hand up and down her body, presses her skin to catch her attention, "I can't wait for us to get there. I want you to meet Gaara."
Hinata stills a second, remembers her classes with Lord Minato before saying, "The One-t-tail."
"The one and only," Naruto chuckles.
"Lord Minato d-didn't tell me you two were f-friends."
Naruto shrugs, steals a kiss from her lips, "Dad usually doesn't say much unless necessary or asked." He lets the papers fall on his desk and buries his face on Hinata's neck. She squeaks and Naruto finds it endearing, "We've known each other since I was like 12."
Hinata opens her eyes in surprise and tries to bring Naruto up to her, "I didn't⊠I didn't know that."
"It was a point in time where I was super rebellious and my dad thought I needed a friend who was actually going through the same thing as me," he has a smile in place still, "he's a year older than me and now is super aloof and mellow, but at the time he was even more annoying than me." He gives a loud laugh, shaking his head in disbelief. "We fought and I got pretty roughed up but I won," he gives her a smirk, pride in his eyes.
And Hinata is still trying to grasp the story, "Why d-did you fight?"
"I⊠actually don't remember," he squints his eyes in effort, but gives up soon after. "At that timeâŠ"
He pauses, gulps down out of nervousness, but Hinata stares at him with nothing but open interest, and Naruto talks, this time softer, this time quieter, "I was just starting to see the outside world. I grew up sheltered and followed my dad everywhere. I didn't know what being a Beast Tamer entailed, I didn't remember anything regarding the sealing so when I had to go under the reinforcement⊠I started to feel pretty resentful, you know? I wanted to be normal... Whatever that means. And I started to act out. My father, bless his soul, did his best and then thought it would be a good idea to put us two together for a while. Gaara's dad accepted under the condition of my dad checking his seal and so they came here." Naruto looks down at her, kisses her temple, "Two kids who hated themselves and everything around them, I don't remember exactly why we fought but it must have been the dumbest of reasons. We were just ready to fuck everything up at a moment's notice. So we did."
"How⊠you s-said you are friends."
"Oh, for sure." He laughs again, shakes his head as if remembering what he wanted to say, "we ended up roughed up and all but by the end we were friends. In the fight⊠I guess I ended up lifting him up? He felt worse than me, that's for sure, and I guess I ended up telling him that we could lick each other's wound, being the same and all. That I understood⊠what he was going through."
Naruto looks lost in thought again, and Hinata raises her hand to cup his cheek. He nestles into it.
"I-I'm glad you two became f-friends."
Naruto locks eyes with her and Hinata can't remember ever seeing him so melancholic. His childhood must have been⊠different. She opens her mouth to say something, anything to help him feel better, but Naruto opens his arms and hugs her again, buries his face on her body.
Hinata squeals in surprise and Naruto laughs. Laughs and kisses her and although Hinata doesn't want to let this topic go, Naruto doesn't go back to it. They talk dates and guards and servants and Naruto doesn't let himself fall back into that lost look he had before.
âââ
Kiba finds her one afternoon. He looks around her before getting closer and Hinata knows he's trying not to meet Sai.
"My lady," he greets. Looking to the two servants behind her, "may I take over and guard you where you are going?"
Hinata smiles at him and dismisses the servants with a polite nod. Kiba may be brash and bold to an absurd level, but he has been nothing but civilized and nice with her and even though his sense of humor might be crass, she has come to enjoy his open-mouthed laughs.
âHas the lady been able to check the name of the guards tasked with protecting you at the Summit?â
Hinata nods, knows where heâs going with this.
âAnd the lady is all right with them?â
Another nod, and Kiba looks at her like she has just told him she hates dogs.
âBecause you can totally tell me that you donât want them guarding you, you know?â
When itâs the two of them, when itâs them and Naruto or the people close to him, Kiba lets go of the way he addresses her normally. Itâs a breath of fresh air. He made sure to check with her if she was comfortable and the moment she shared she rather enjoyed it he had smiled like a child.
Naruto had thought she was doing it because she didnât want to bother him, but Hinata really enjoyed his company and his conversations. Naruto had chuckled, and told her that she was really something. Preferring Saiâs or Kibaâs company over a polite servant.
But sheâs sure Naruto would understand if he stayed in the Hyuga compound for a while, where loud laughs like Kibaâs or the honesty of Sai are never heard. Sheâs sure anyone would understand if her only source of entertainment came from what people told her. She loved hearing Kibaâs boisterous voice narrating the most mundane of activities as if they were big adventures. Or Saiâs overly meticulous explanations that almost fell into comedy at times.
âI mean, Sai you already know and like, donât ask me why,â Kiba walks with a gait that makes him look ferocious. His unkempt hair and the coat with fur lining over his hood only adding to the look. âbut Iâm here to vouch for Shino, all right.â
Hinata smiles, because both of them know Hinata wouldnât turn down Shino either way. Quiet and somber, but polite and nice always. Almost always near Kiba, as their techniques are most suitable for surveillance, and almost always making Kiba groan in frustration. Very much like Sai.
âGloomy, sure, weird, also sure, but heâs good, ok?â
Hinata giggles as Kibaâs lackluster defense of Shino continues. He will stay, as the clan still needs to be protected and his mother asked for him to work with her. His sister, Hana, is away on a mission and his mother, as the chief, refused to let him go. Their master may be away and watchful eyes may go from the compound to wherever he goes, but still, the clan must stay protected.
Kiba leaves her inside her room, with guards outside and servants at the ready. Hinata looks around the room, moves towards the garden and sits right next to the window. Sheâs nervous and excited and although she worries about a list of things she tries to forget, she canât help the giddy feeling that surfaces inside her.
A trip like she had never had before.
âââ
Naruto comes late into the night and does his best to remain silent. But like many other times before, Hinata stirs awake and stands to help him undress.
He has told her time and time again that she doesnât need to, doesnât have to, that she should sleep without worrying when heâs late, and she has evaded his pleas with smiles and kisses he canât resist.
He worries, because he wonders if she feels she has to wait for him. He worries, because her hands always travel places that make him feel on edge and whenever he answers those advances sheâs eager to accept. He worries, because thereâs been hardly a day in which he hasnât spilled his seed inside of her andâŠ
Her body is soft and plump and Naruto never tires of grabbing and dragging her to him. His passion is never-ending and seeing her eyes fill with longing and lust is everything to him. Because if those eyes ever fill with worryâŠ
Naruto feels his stomach tightening, and Hinata clamps around him making him gasp for air. She huffs and puffs and her hands search for his face and Naruto kisses her palms, searches immediately for her eyes. Craving and hunger. He sighs in relief, brings himself down to her and kisses her. Lets his tongue move lazily against hers.
When his hips move away from her, Hinata crosses her legs around his waist, shakes her head no. âDonât p-pull out,â she breathes, and Naruto can already fill his thirst for her washing over his body. âM-more.â
Naruto takes his time. Touches and teases, drinks her, breaths her. Naruto takes his time because this is not a chore now, and will not become a chore later. The moment his mind wanders to unwanted thoughts he buries his face on her body, concentrates on her breath and the way her hands drag over his body, the way she squirms under him and presses to him whenever possible.
He looks at her eyes, feels himself hardening at her rosy lips, her hair splayed out, his hands never quite able to hold her breasts on them. Her moansâŠ
Naruto comes inside her and he grabs hold of the legs over his shoulders. Hinata shivers under him and drags her nails over his thighs, making Naruto gasp in pleasure brought by the sharp feeling.
The pop of his penis exiting her fills his ears and he cleans between her legs with care before giving a fast wipe over himself. He brings her to him, searches for her hand to hold. He has stopped watching his seed fall out of her in fear of giving her the wrong idea. He has stopped caressing her flat stomach after sex in fear of making her fall to the wrong conclusions.
Heâs not worried. Heâs not in a hurry, either, but it pains him to think she is troubled. Makes him want to bring her closer to him and whisper in her ear that there is nothing to worry about.
But he canât. So he kisses her goodnight, nuzzles his face on the back of her head and sleeps with her body close to his.
And he worries⊠for her.

on land where we can touch the moon (2/?)
PART 1 PART 3
A quick note- this is pretty messy. I'm planning as I write, so there'll be information scattered across the words, and it may be overwhelming...kinda. I have added a little note about what happened in this chapter in the end. This series is also up on ao3.
There is, naturally, a reason Azul was stuck with the name 'The Sea Merchant'.
It wasn't a bad name, and there was no hint of degradation in it. It just wasn't particularly suiting. Azul wasn't a merchant. He wasn't even a shopkeeper. He was just invested in a little magic, and this hobby of his got leaked out somehow.Â
His magic was certainly something. It's A Deal allowed him to confiscate another person's valued quality in exchange for their wish. Anything could come to life as long as the deal was equal.
Only the drunk and people in desperate need of help ever went to him for help. After Azul had started mastering his magic, he reckoned that it hadn't been used to its full potential. If the person on the other side of the deal failed to meet the requirement, Azul could take even more from them without suffering any loss.Â
And so he sugarcoated and exaggerated his words, put up the most professional smile he could manage. For a few weeks all was well. He'd gained himself a melodious voice, splendid flexibility and a ton of unique magics, but nothing great ever lasted. He was soon exposed as a scammer and his notoriety was whispered among the streets, passed on and on until every family warned their kids not to ever run into him. And Azul, with his fame and prosperity wilting under the gossip and points of fingers, was forced into giving up his success.
He had been in hiding ever since.
He could never understand how something as atrocious could happen to him. If it hadn't been for the sneers and isolation in the entirety of his childhood, he wouldn't have grown up hating everything and everyone around him that called him ugly, unwanted, repulsive. It should've justified his desire for revenge.
Instead, God decided that his suffering was not anywhere close to enough and kicked him down the cliff where he was crying for help.
That being said, Azul was grateful to have Jade and Leech sticking around after everything. The two of them were also unpopular among others, so they eventually got close as a tight-knitted trio.
"No you didn't," Jade said firmly.Â
"I did, Jade. I did," Azul sighed, "They were dying, Jade, I couldn't just let them die,"
"Well, you should've."
"Don't be so uptight. Azul was doing the right thing, wasn't he?" Floyd winked. "So. Were they good-looking?"
"What?"
"The human. You must've saved them for a reason,"
Azul hated how Floyd's words implied that he would never do good unless there was something in it for him, but one could never lie in the face of truth.Â
"I just didn't want to let them die. It was their birthday,"
"What does that have to do with everything?" Jade asked. "You went above the water. You saved a human. You were almost caught. You could've died up there, you know. How did you even manage to breathe?"
"I just⊠did." Azul said, twirling his tentacles in nervousness. Jade was entirely disapproving of his actions, while Floyd on the contrary seemed to be mildly intrigued.Â
Everything still felt like a fever dream. All the fireworks and cheering and explosion were still vividly scorched into his mind as if they'd been put on repeat. The splendid colors, light giggles and-Â
And those beautiful eyes of yours. The way your hair flowed in the night sky with ease, how you laughed like tomorrow was promised and your life had been planned out before you, a clear and untainted path to success. Azul couldn't decide on whether he was jealous or amazed.
"Well, you better hope they didn't really see you, or that they forgot about it. If the humans come down here to hunt us down-" Jade couldn't even bear to finish the imagination. He simply shook his head in dismay.
"I swear I saw someone! I couldn't have just been washed ashore!"
"Apparently, you were," Jack said, stroding with large steps that had you panting to keep up. "Near-death experiences do things to our mind, your majesty,"
"That may be the case for others, but I'm sure I was conscious," you retorted. "I woke up to a pair of pale, azure eyes, then in a blink they were behind the rock. If it hadn't been for you-"
"I apologize for worrying about you, your majesty."
You bit your tongue. Fighting with Jack always ended with him being passive-aggressive and you stepping back reluctantly. Plus he was as stern as a rock. Almost nothing could move his belief.
Shouting and grunting could be heard from inside the medical room where Ace, Deuce and Grim were being tended to.
Jack flung open the door, and the three stumbled to get into the blankets and put on a excruciated expression.
"I see you're all healed up," Jack said. Ace hummed lowly and slapped his forehead with the back of his hand.Â
"I'm at death's door, commander. It pains me to say this, but I might need to take more days off,"
Jack was quiet for a while, and you could almost see a drop of sweat sliding down Ace's forehead.
"And you, Deuce?" Jack challenged.
"I'm traumatized,"Â
"And Grim?"
You arched your brow, at which he shivered in fear. "I- I'm feeling fine already,"
"So it's just Ace and Deuce, right?" Jack said. Ace and Deuce nodded their heads so hard they could fall off.
"Alright. Your health is of utmost importance to us, so I'll contact the Raven HealerâŠ"
"The what?!" Deuce's voice croaked.
"The Raven Healer. Surely you've heard of him. He's best known for being able to treat any diseases, both mentally and physically,"
You were sure there were sweats rolling down Ace's cheeks now. "But- but doesn't he heal by using bizzare mediciness"
"Oh yes. His magic is what makes him such an infallible doctor. You two seem to be in a lot of pain. I'm sure he'll free you of your suffering."
You turned sharply towards the door and stifled a laughter.Â
"That's⊠not very necessaryâŠ" Deuce's voice faltered word by word. He was fully aware that he'd already lost. "You know what, commander? I think I can dive back into work right this instant!"
Jack smirked smugly. "Splendid. And you, Ace?"
The two of them stared at each other so intensely there seemed to be sparkles between them. Finally, Ace gave in. "I'll start work tomorrow,"
They didn't even wait for Jack to walk completely out of the door to whine. They looked fully healthy, even more energized than you.
"Anyways, did you find your saviour?"
You sighed. Ace and Deuce were still skeptical about your 'story', which you'd corrected to 'experience', but at least they were open-minded.Â
"No clues. I've had guards patrolling about every two hours. Nothing has yet to happen,"
They eyed each other uneasily, then back at you with a worried face. Before they could make assumptions, you defended yourself. "No, I'm not sick. My head's not concussed,"
"Well," Grim scurried to your lap. "Perhaps your saviour doesn't wish to be found?"
That'd be unwanted. You would wish for anything but to create troubles for your lifesaver. Nonetheless, you knew you wouldn't be able to sleep without sending your gratitude.Â
Alright, there might be a selfish motif. You were admittedly curious about those light, pensive eyes and silvery, gleaming hair under sunlight. All these unknown were like a gravity pool, pulling you deeper and deeper into the mystery.
"Well, you ought not to lose hope," Ace patted your shoulder casually, like you weren't the princette of the kingdom he was serving for. "Maybe you'll actually run into him. Fate has a weird habit for setting unexpected traps."
It wasn't so much love as a tender curiosity, but the line segregating them was so flimsy that one's got to mix them up at some point.
Azul found himself in such a dilemma. He couldn't decide whether it was attraction or nosiness that he was feeling. Either way, it's got him hooked like a drug. Something beautiful had finally entered his life like light piercing through a thick fog of ink, and it was possessive. Azul had a feeling that it wouldn't go away until it had drained him of his mind.
The door to his room was thrown open and Azul had to hide the peeled petals and green stem in a jumble. He had been chanting 'they love me, they love me not' for the past hour. To his luck, Jade and Leech didn't seem to have noticed his haste expression. They were both panting when they swam inside.
"What's wrong?" Azul's first instinct was that something had gone south.
"There-" Floyd wheezed. "There's a sta-"
"There's a fallen statue in the Coral Maze," Jade finished the sentence. "People are fussing over it,"
"Okay," Azul eased back into his bed. He'd already lost interest at 'Coral Maze'. It was at the centre of where the majority of sea creatures inhabited. Nothing could make him go anywhere near civilization and its hubristic aesthetic again.
Or so he thought.
"No- you don't get it. It's a statue of a human that sank along with wreckages of a big ship, and it's made of gold,"
A statue made of gold.
He recalled it now. It was supposed to be your birthday present. The consternation of what followed the present revelation had been so intense that it'd washed the memory of the statue out.
"We just thought that it could be the statue you mentioned in your story, you know? It looked really grandâŠ" Floyd sighed.
Azul wanted to get up and swim over right there, right then, but he knew he couldn't. What would others say to him the moment they saw the shadows of their tentacles crawling on their pure and oh-so royal ground? What accusations would they throw his way? How many children will be led away from him like he was some man-eating, brutal abomination?
Not to mention the unforgiving rage he'd evoked in trying to scam them in the past. Dishonesty was highly criticised in their high-class society. It was as if they were saints that had never done one thing wrong. Bet they'd never even stayed up past midnight.
"You ought to come take a look!" Floyd suggested. A casual, friendly proposal.
"No," Azul snapped. "No, no. I'm not going there,"
"They're planning to use the gold," Jade said. "You know how they are. They see one thing from the ground and start screeching in pain,"
They were going to use your statue. The statue that was perhaps the only thing that was related to you, the one way to never have to forget about you again in case that you never met again.
And to imagine the effect it'd add to his collections! A big gold statue in the centre of his grotto, accentuated by the sparkling of other jewelries. It'd be complete.
"I'll sit on it," Azul decided. He was not to act rashly, lest he walked one step wrong and brought upon himself misery and misfortune. If he really was to pay a visit, he would act in secret. Perhaps in the veil of the night.Â
"Just don't act alone, okay?" Jade said. Azul nodded despite not paying any mind to him.
In the dead of the night Azul decided to sneak out. Alone. It was a mistake, really. Azul couldn't stop thinking about your statue, and by the time he realized how absurd it was, he'd already gone to the Coral Maze.
There was nary a shadow except his own. Still, it was much lighter than where he lived even at night. The distorted image of the moon waved from above as Azul made his way through the many identical corals. Then he finally found your majestic statue standing solemnly in the centre. The only beauty in the water.
It was a sight for sore eyes. White, pure light reflected off the gold and created streams of gleams onto the ground. That someone would ever find it to be disgraceful was incomprehensible to Azul. Something like this deserved to be put on display in the museum for all to see.
There was no radiance on your face and no splendid colors in your eyes. It was merely a fraction of what you were. Nonetheless, it was enough for Azul.
"Who's roaming there?" an alerted voice asked. When Azul turned, he saw a silhouette looming from outside the Coral Maze, holding two anglerfishes in hands and waving them in the water.
Panic was the only thing Azul felt as he hid behind the statue, struggling to keep his tentacles out of sight. The light stayed right in front of him for a while before skimming away.
Azul grabbed the statue and swam, pushing his tentacles through the water as hard as he could.Â
"Wait there- oh goodness!"Â
There were several voices now, mumbling and inquiring. Then light was casted upon his flitting figure and there were bemused gasps before someone yelled, "Seize him!"
Azul was out of breath. He wished he excelled in fitness but instead he was stuck with incongruous tentacles that would never cooperate at the most needed times.
A hand grasped the end of his tentacle but slipped off. He kept the statue tight in his arms, as if his life depended on it. He could tell that they were near now, and was trying very hard not to imagine the gruesome outcomes.
Someone grabbed his tentacles. He faltered and was pulled back despite protests.
"Keep him in place!" another person yelled as the crowd moved to keep Azul fenced in.
Azul couldn't see anything. Everything was a poor mixture of shadow and distaste and sneers. He was probably going to die right there.
"I can't believe you have the guts to come back, Ashengrotto. After all the things you've done!" someone spoke up.
"Yeah! How shameless of you!â
"And he's stealing our properties now! Imagine how desperate he is,"
"You guys don't even want it!" Azul said.
Some guy lurched forward. Azul cowered backwards.
"It's disgusting, yes, but it's still gold." he said as if it was a completely just thing to do. "It landed on our ground, so it belongs to us. On the contrary, you don't have the rights to lay your filthy hands on it. What more do you want to steal from us?"
"I'm taking this because none of you understand the beauty of it!"
This evoked a negative reaction from the crowd, but words could never be taken back. Azul could feel his heart pounding like a prisoner hellbent on escaping. He had to escape. No more of this degrading gazes. No more of the points of fingers.
"Beauty?" the guy scoffed, and for a moment his face scrunched up and he was ready to spit out rage, but then it softened into a smug smirk. "I guess only ugly understands ugly, huh?"
Azul's head throbbed.
"It doesn't justify your actions, ink-blasting thief. Hand that piece of trash over right- uff!"
He was flung deep into the water until he disappeared into nothing but a black dot. People around Azul immediately made way as they fled in screams and wails. His tentacle was still tingling with the impact, but he couldn't quite feel it. Even if he did, he couldn't care less as he skyrocketed to the surface of the water. He blinked and blinked, but his eyes were still blurred by what would be mixed into the seawater eventually.Â
He'd had enough. Heard enough, seen enough. If he'd spent one more second down there he would have suffocated to death.
The familiar freshness of air welcomed him the moment he broke through the water's persistence. The land wasn't far ahead. He swam towards it as if it was his sanctuary.Â
There was a man sitting on the rock, face hidden under the hood. Azul considered retreating. He had no idea what would happen to him if he was spotted, but nothing better would happen if he were to go back. So he continued swimming and crawled onto the cool soft sand, only letting his head be seen by the man as he hid behind yet another rock where he placed the much valued statue.
He seemed to be asleep, chest heaving up and down at a steady pace. Just as Azul started sliding out, the man raised his head and looked straight at Azul.
They were a pair of humming, white circles, seemingly void of any sentiments. The man had a mask on that shielded his face except for his tightly shut lips. Two crows were staring right at him with the same uncanny manner.
"You've finally arrived," the man said.
Probably the humans had been searching for him. Azul decided to keep his mouth shut.
"I've been hearing your callsâŠ" he tilted his head. "You can come out. I know what you are,"
Azul still hesitated. But he was much closer to the ocean than to the guy, so he slowly let his tentacles into light.
The man remained calm, not a bit taken back by the revelation.
"Well, I've been hearing your callsâŠ" he resumed.
"I never called out to any humans,"
"Not literally. But you have been calling out a lot," he smiled amiably. "You have to know that it's especially hard for me to hear from creatures undersea, so if your wishes managed to reach me, it means you're pretty desperate,"
"I think you have the wrong person," Azul said and started retreating.
The guy sprang up and his crows curled up together beside him. "Wait- I should introduce myself first. I'm the Raven Healer,"
Azul pondered for a while. "That doesn't explain anything except for the crows,"
"You lots haven't heard of me?" he frowned so deep that his brows and eyes were a cluster. "You guys are really secluded,"
That was when Azul finally realized that he knew about them. About all the lives and creatures that inhabited the deep sea.
"And I mean no harm to your realm. My only target is you," he smiled again, this time at an ominous angle.
"Well, I'm quite famous in this realm. I heal people for a living, whether it be physical or emotional needs. Anything you need, I can grant you,"
That's not very different from Azul's magic.Â
"Sometimes, when someone is really desperate for a change, their thoughts can be heard by my crows. And you, Azul AshengrottoâŠ" his smile dropped a bit and his eyes drooped. "is particularly distressed,"
"Alright. It was nice meeting you," Azul nodded respectfully. The man didn't seem to be harmful. If he fled right now, he could probably throw him off.
The Raven Healer stilled, then burst into piles of blatant laughter. "No, no. I've been looking for you, don't you get it? I'm here to grant your wish!"
I'm here to grant your wish. Like how Azul'd promoted his business as the Sea Merchant.
"I understand that you've been suffering quite a lot, and that you want a change. But nothing ever comes without a cost⊠I'm sure you can understand,"
The healer stood up, the material of his greatcoat fluttering in the wind. He made his way freely to Azul, who could only freeze up as he inspected the statue with great interest.
"The heir to the throne! I see why you're desperate now. They're a real catch," the healer then looked down at the outstretched tentacles without a word. Azul prayed in his mind that he would turn away from them.
"Well, here are my terms. I will grant you a pair of legs in exchange for your magic,"
Wait, what?
Azul was pretty sure the Raven Healer was just imitating him now. A great figure appearing out of the blue to answer your hopes. The catch was that the figure would always take away your most important thing. It was never a fair deal, Azul was aware.
"I don't think you need my magic," Azul breathed.
"Why, I do!" he exclaimed. "Collecting magic is a splendid hobby of mine! It is because of all these magic that I am such a renowned magician,"
He was obviously lying. His smile couldn't reach his eyes, and the orbs where his eyes were supposed to be were humming like a hazard label.
"I think I'll be just fine," Azul hurriedly brought the statue to his chest and started sliding away.
"...How are you going to survive?"
"What?" Azul swiveled, exhausted.
"Up here. With yourâŠ" the healer wiggled his fingers.
"I'll find a way,"
"No you won't," the healer protested. Azul looked up to the sky, took a deep breath and decided to entertain him.Â
"Why so?"
"You're gonna cause ruckus. Chaos. People are not especially used to seeing half-man half-octopuses roaming their land," he said honestly.Â
Despite knowing all this, Azul still considered his word rude. There was a thin line between blunt and disrespectful, and he'd just crossed it.Â
"There won't be anyone dealing with you, will there?"
"...I suppose not-"
"Exactly! I am your only hope!" he exclaimed once again, throwing his hands up in the air like a dramatist. "Unless you want to go back?"
Azul glanced at the serene water. He knew that down there, the mermaids and mermen must be panicking over what'd just happened.
"You can't hold onto that statue forever. If you really wish to stay here-"
"I just came, Mr. Healer. I'm not going to stay,"
"Yet. Come on now," he groaned, as if he was the one exasperated. "I know you want it. You need it. So what are you waiting for? You're never going to see all the beauties in this world in this state!"
He was right. Agonizingly right. He couldn't just walk around as an octopus. It would be like a stain on a quaint painting. Moreover, now that he was here, he couldn't just give up the chance to find you again. It's not like the ocean would welcome him anyways.
As if hearing his thoughts, the Raven Healer reached his hand out, "Deal? Your magic for a pair of legs. It's a fantastic trade if you think about it,"
One second. Two second. Azul didn't wait until the third to act on it. The moment their skin touched, Azul felt a stream of warmth coursing through him, rushing to his throat, where he choked up a luminous blue orb. It was within the healer's fingers within seconds.
"And your legs," he rummaged inside his pocket. There seemed to be numerous tiny objects inside as he dug around. Finally, he pulled up a thumb-size bottle and handed it to Azul.
He downed the slimy liquid inside under the healer's encouraging nods, and almost gagged at the sensation. "Guh! What the hell is-"
His tentacles started glowing a bright yellow, bright enough to attract people in this dead of the night. They started to shrink until they completely disappeared, and a pair of human legs replaced them.
He couldn't believe his eyes as he stretched around and surveyed the changes on his body. It took him quite some time to adjust to it, but he was surprisingly good at it. The fabric of the pants that came with the gift fluttered against his 'flesh' like a mother's caress. He felt normal, for once. Not some ugly monster that preyed on innocent kids. Not a marginalized criminal. Not even a wicked fraud. He was just a human wanting to explore the world.
"Three days," the Raven Healer said.
"What?" Azul was too joyous to pay real mind.
"If you can't find the most beautiful thing after three days, you will dissolve into sea bubbles,"
Azul stilled as he comprehended his words, then he started to chant no in his mind. He'd fallen for his trap.
"You didn't mention it at all!" Azul yelled. "Refund! You're scamming me!"
"The pot's calling the kettle black now. How comical," the healer giggled. Azul's heart dropped to the bottom.
"Consider this your own medicine. It's not like you're completely at loss over here!"
"Wait!" Azul reached out to grasp his fainting figure, which had become an opaque vision.Â
"We shall reunite in three days. Until then, enjoy."
All that was left was the crashing of the waves and songs of the crickets. Bathed in the glow of the moon, Azul finally came to the conclusion that he'd fucked up.
Life never stopped to give him a break. There were haste footsteps nearing from behind. Azul instinctively retracted his tentacles, but forgot about their absence and tripped instead.
"Yikes! That was a nasty fall. Are you okay?"Â
Looking up, two formally looking men were standing above him, one with crimson hair and another navy. There was a sword attached to each of their sides.
"Yeah. I-I'm fine," Azul cleared his throat and stood up.
"Are you homeless?" The redhead asked and was immediately hit by his companion.
"You can't go around asking people whether they are homeless!" he scolded, then turned to Azul brightly. "You must be in search of shelter! Please follow us!"
"That isn't any better,"Â
"Shut up," the blue-haired snapped with the same polite smile. "Come on, Mr"
"A-Azul. Azul Ashengrotto,"
"Yes, Mr. Ashengrotto. We can't have you catching a cold out here,"
Despite his friendly facade, Azul could see underlying motives lurking beneath. But clueless that he was, he didn't have a choice but to follow suit towards the castle-like building in the far distance.
"Your majesty will be pleased to see you," the redhead murmured, but Azul couldn't quite catch that.
"What was that?" he asked.
"It's nothing," was all that he received. "Just that you'll surely love the place."
Conclusion : Azul had once gone around scamming others with his unique magic but was busted and had been further criticised since. The Raven Healer is obviously Crowley, and his magic will be further explained in next chapter.

Imagine disappear, and Bakugo is searching you.
âą That was during a normal day; you peacefully walked during your rest day.
Distracted by the advertising spots where Shoto sold cold sobas with his hero pro suit, and where Midoriya and Bakugo showed up there, perfume with the tittle "wonder duo, wonder smell, Axe."
âą Then, everything exploded.
âą You couldn't think that, your ears whistling and the ground trembling uncontrollably.
You were born without a quirk, but you went to Yuei in general, and you had to do some obligatory emergency formations.
âą So you had the good reflexes, and you seek some shelter, but the notorious villain who attacked, saw you.
After all, you were his target.
He used again his exploding blast wave quirk; you felt on the ground.
âą The other civilians screamed in agony, and some of them desperately tried to intervene, but the exposed floor was instable and their sens perturbed.
And for the communications, the villain's waves probably had been affecting it.
You heard some steps, came near to you.
âą"What if we take the number 1 of the number 1 neh ?"
He laughed mockingly and...
You had a used total black out.
âą A few minutes later, the heroes arrived, but the villain escaped with you.
âą The witness explained the chaotic scene and some heroes were called to search you.
âą The worst inevitably came when Bakugo heard the news.
He was coming back from a stupid mission with a pick-pocked who had the gluing ass quirk and which had fun to steal handbags with sitting on it.
And he heard that.
You...
You, his pillar.
âą The one who he met in his therapy.
The one who helped him with this therapy, who helped him to better understand the no-quirk person.
The one who doesn't abandon him.
âą You had also managed his social medias a while ago and the majority of his follower due to your work, your fucking photography.
(he knew that most of them were while he was with you, because when you're here, he can smile, he can stop screaming...)
âą And you're missing, you disappeared.
He exploded and called the 1-A.
⹠He would never do this before, but he knew that among those extras, some of them like Shinso or Fumikage, were more adapted to him, to find you.
âą Everyone started to search you or wait for the probable ransom because...
"'THEY'RE IN DANGER BECAUSE OF ME !" Bakugo screamed.
"Kacchan, calm down."
"Izuku, it's serves nothing to try reasoning him. Moreover, I would like to contradict him, but..." Momo started
"Y/n was in danger because journalists saw them, with us. More precisely, with Bakugo. Your relationship is platonic, but the gossips were persuaded that you're going out. So the villain just kidnapped the person who the heroes care about, in particularly the number one. And he found y/n." Tenya said.
Bakugo stopped and disproportionately hurt the wall.
He knew it.
But fuck, if he looked out for...or if...
If you lived together, if he had the balls to confess at the graduating ceremony, maybe you would not been in the street but at his home or...
"Bro, you can't do anything to change the past. On other hand, when we will find them, it will be come the moment to be manly, dude !"
âą The red hair was aware of Bakugo's feeling toward Y/n, the class, too. But he was the only who directly had the confirmation by Bakugo himself.
Eijiro even had thought that the blonde will confessed, but Bakugo wanted to be the number one before this, like he didn't deserve Y/n if he didn't reach this objective.
âą "We will put all the means into action to find them. The important thing is to not let our feelings take over us. The more time we waste, the less chance we have found them safe." Jirou said.
âą All nodded their heads.
Flashback :
"I'm sure that you will finish with a pro hero." Y/n said while they were eating with Bakugo on the roof.
That was during their third year at Yuei, all the Fridays lunch were with them.
All the lunch was for them, but sadly the Bakusquad didn't let him the choice. So he negotiated the Fridays.
"Tss why are you saying this ?"
" Well, I'm sure that if you let you carry away, you exploded. So imagine if a normal civil is sucking you and bam you exploded at their face in the both sens of the term..."
"Y/N WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT ?!"
They laughed.
"Sorry, I just wanted to see your reaction. I'm sure that everything is working, even down there."
Bakugo grumbled.
"Tss, sure it works. If you wanted so bad, I will make you a round on it, asshole."
Y/n blushed.
"Maybe one day..."
Bakugo was surprised by the answer, but let this in suspense.
If he knew it...
He would have devoured this lips a long time ago.
He would have said to them so much compliments, at a point so high, that it would equal with his ego.
End of the flashback
"You have to sleep." Kirishima said.
"Fuck no, I stay here."
"He didn't call, and it's been a week. Katsuki, you must sleep. Don't even dare take a coffee, yourself said it was horrible for your "fucking and perfect health, extras." "
Bakugo put the goblet and let a frustration sigh.
Nothing.
Not a fucking ransom.
No demand of money, no explosions or news of them.
They were nowhere.
"WE GOT NEWS !" Izuku screamed.
Katsuki stood up, but a black stain appeared, following by several others before everything turned black, and he collapsed on the ground.
________________________________
"Hello Aurora Bakugo, and welcome to the world of the living." a distant voice said while he painfully opened his eyes.
'Shit even here you placed a Disney reference y/n." Katsuki grumbled
He stopped himself.
Y/n ?
Suddenly he straightened up to see them next to him, with some injuries and a splint on the hand.
'Wait, what's going..."
"You fainted due to the lack of sleep and food. They took you to the hospital, where they did the necessary. It's been 10 hours since this, because like during high school, you're a grandpa who needs his sleep schedule."
" And you, you..."
"'are fine. The villain waited, to make it more dramatic and show my beauty at all the city's screens because "mouahahaha I stole Bakugo's partner", except that unfortunately for him, I'm not your partner. But, well, he was persuaded of the contrary and his ass was kicked."
" You can become it."
"What ? A villain ? Ah no, thanks. I put gloss, so I can't become a Tomura number 2, it will be a failure."
"Tss, I talked about been a partner."
"Deku will be jealous."
"Like you can equal him."
" It's true that his thighs are unbeatable."
"Yours too."
You blushed.
"You must be in morphine."
"No, I'm just under adrenalin because the person I dearly loved was kidnapped, and they're just here because I was a coward."
"You didn't be a coward. You're still a coward. But it had nothing to do with this kidnapping."
"I was unable to tell you, that I love you."
"But you made it today and, that's what it counts."
You smiled at him.
Oh, this radiant smile.
Fuck, he will be ready to fight with All Might just to see it.
"I love you back Katsuki, if your brain hasn't understood it yet, which maybe will the case seen how you stared the wall."
"Shut up, I just observed..."
"Observed ?"
"You."
You took his hand in your free one.
He leaned towards you, but...
"I may be disappeared, but your fresh breath too, above all that you stayed here ten hours. So if you want to passionately kiss me, you have to wait."
"I will wait for the time it takes. I'm the fucking number one."
.
.
.
"With Izuku."
"Shut up."
You laughed.
Yes you disappeared on his life, on his heart, on this city, but now you're back...
He, sure, count to brush his teeth to finally kiss you.
But he wants, too, to give you the envy to stay at his side in order that never this lack reappeared.

The Lone Wolf
Masterlist // 05
Warnings: Swearing
Word Count: 4.2k
I was in my wolf form when my cage was being opened, I looked to the twins' cells, Wanda nodded to me ever so subtly, flickered her hands slightly and I knew. It was time. The guard opened the barred door and I took my chance, I dug my claws into his chest, he began bleeding and I pushed harshly past him. I turned back to my human form and knocked him over the head hard enough to knock him out.
I took the keys to the twins' cells from his unconscious body and swung them around my left index finger. I smiled to the twins and they smiled back.
"So..." I smirked at them, "Who wants to escape from some science Nazis?"
I shoved the key into the lock of Wanda's cell and turned it, opening the door and she smiled at me, she ruffled my hair as she left the cell and we moved onto my beloved's cell. I put the key in and turned it impatiently, wanting to see him free. When the door opened he spared no time running over to me and engulfing me in his arms.
"I knew you could do it mi prinÈesa," he said into my hair and I pulled back from the hug.
(My princess)
"Of course, mo chroĂ, have I ever failed you yet?" I quirked an eyebrow at him.
(My heart)
"Enough," Wanda interrupted his answer, "You'll have time for all that when we are gone."
"She makes a point, a stĂłr," I looked in my love's eyes before turning away.
(Darling)
"Wanda, you got the cameras in here, you have to do that before every room we enter, even then they probably know that we're escaping. Piet, I need you to get me a gun, as quick as you can, without getting caught. I'm busting us out of here and I don't care how many people's blood I spill as long as we get out alive," I order, I may be younger than them, but our escape was mostly my plan and they don't have any less respect for me because of my slight age difference.
"Got it," they replied before doing as asked. Wanda fucked with the camera in the next room and we took down the guards, Pietro picked up a gun and threw it to me, I caught it and felt the adrenaline coursing through my veins as I fiddled with the trigger.
I nodded to them and we began moving through the base. We made quick work of the guards that tried to capture us, a bullet shot here, some telekinetic intervention there, all in all it there didn't seem to be any problems.
We made it to the back exit and began leaving. That was when it happened. When we failed. When we were split up. We were running as fast as we could, leaving the god forsaken place when I turned around, just for a second, and saw Wanda missing.
"Mo ghrĂĄ, I said, "Where's Wanda?"
Pietro looked behind him and saw her gone as well, "I will find her," he told me before giving me a kiss on my forehead.
"Be quick," I told him, "Be safe. Come back to me."
"Always, malen'kaya Volchitsa."
And with that he turned and ran back to find his sister while I kept running away.
I jolt awake, sitting up and gasping for air, eyes wide. It was just a nightmare... no, not a nightmare, a memory. That day was the last I saw of them. The last I saw of him. I didn't even get to say a real goodbye. Now he's gone.
My panting and shaking awakens Wanda, she sits up slowly before taking my hands in hers. She smiles sadly at me as tears stream down my face.
"Este Ăźn regulÄ draga mea, eÈti bine, totul este Ăźn regulÄ," she comforts me.
(It's okay my dear, you're okay, everything's fine)
"NĂl sĂ©, nĂl gach rud i gceart. TĂĄ achan rud ag titim as a chĂ©ile arĂs. NĂ thig liom thĂș a fhĂĄgĂĄil. Fuair duine againn bĂĄs an uair deirneach," I sob to her.
(It's not, everything's not okay. Everything's falling apart again. I can't leave you. One of us died last time)
"Nu, nu este. Ultima data a fost diferitÄ. De data aceasta vom rÄmĂąne Ăźn legÄturÄ. Mi voi fi niciodatÄ mai mult decĂąt un telefon depart."
(No, it's not. Last time was different. This time we will stay in touch. I will never be more than a phone call away)
Phone call. Phone call. My mind sobers as I realise what must've happened back home and I haven't even taken the time for a phone call.
"I- I have to go," I say, slipping out of my mother tongue and into English, stepping out of bed and grabbing my phone.
"Where are you-" I cut Wanda off.
"I need to make a phone call."
"Fianna, it's late."
"I have to."
With that I leave the room, I don't know where to go and so I just kinda linger in the hallway, pacing back and forth. I unlock my phone and go to my contacts, I scroll until I hit it, 'Eo' it's my contact for Eoghan. It's not what I would want my father figure's number as, but I try to keep it professional so...
I hit call and wait as the phone rings. Once. Twice. And on the third he picks up. I let out a breath as he greets me.
"Hello? Fianna? Are you okay?" he asks me.
"Ye-yeah I am," I say before biting the drawstring of my hoodie, "That's a lie. I'm, I'm not okay Eoghan," I confess to him.
"Talk t' me. What's wrong?"
"I uh, I had a nightmare," I tell him, shoving my spare hand into the pocket of the hoodie.
"Okay, nightmare," he repeats and I can practically see him nodding in understanding, "Do you want to talk about it Fi, or do you just want someone to talk to?"
I shake my head, knowing he can't see it, "Talk to someone. I actually called you to, um, to apologise. I know that you probably got dragged into my mess and I wanna make sure that you and Orlaith and the rest of you are doing alright."
There's a slight hesitation before Eoghan speaks again, "What are you talking about?"
"I mean when the feds showed up... right after I busted out of the Raft," I say slowly, confused by his confusion.
"No one showed up here MactĂre," Eoghan assures me, slipping in my merc name. "I haven't a clue what you're on about. What do ye mean busted out?"
"Okay, look, when Wanda called me I was gonna fight a couple of her friends, yeah?"
"Yeah."
"Well basically it all went down in this airport runway. To be honest with ye there was like twelve of us all together and it looked more like a scrap between a few chavs in a Tesco car park than a fricken civil war between the Avengers."
"Okay," Eoghan laughs at that, which was my intention, because he won't be laughing in a second.
"Basically there was this thing called the Sokovia Accords, it basically bans the Avengers from fighting without their ma and da, a bunch of governments, saying they can. Mister America and his old bestie broke that rule and so they became criminals, I and some others helped and that made us all criminals."
"Heh, I'm sorry, what the fuck?" Eoghan asks in a slightly higher octave than usual, yeah, he's pissed at me.
"Yeah... and so we were sent to this superhero jail that was in the middle of the fuckin' ocean. After a couple o' days Stars and Stripes teamed up with some Emo Hello Kitty looking fella and the freakin' Black Widow to bust us out. We're staying in Wakanda right now."
"Okay... let me get this straight," Eoghan says, exasperatedly. "You, and some of America's little mascots, fought the other half of America's mascots. Then you were thrown into a jail cruise ship-"
"It wasn't quite that luxurious Eo, I had a shock collar on," I interrupt with a deadpan tone.
"You fucking what?! Let me continue, you were thrown into a submarine jail, with a shock collar on. Couple o' days later you get broken out of said submarine jail. And now you're staying in a third world country?" Eoghan questions, clearly regretting emotionally adopting me. I don't blame him either, I'm a real problem child.
"I- technically yes. But I'm not coming home is the main point here."
"Why? Why not? Fianna this place is your home, we're you family."
"You are," I agree, fiddling with the zipper of my hoodie nervously. "But if I show up back home then word will get out where I am. I don't want to endanger my family and their jobs. Trust me. Besides, I have a place to stay."
"Where? Where the hell are you staying that would be safer than here?"
"Listen, I hate it as much as you do... probably more. I'm going to New York to stay with... Stark," I sigh, stopping my fiddling.
"Stark? Why would you do that?" Eoghan asks incredulously.
"Because it'll keep us all safe. Me away from that floating ocean pokey and the feds away from you. Trust me, it's for the best."
"But Fianna, you hate him. What about what he did? Don't you remember the pain it caused you? The pain that you caused? MactĂre," he says dangerously.
"Eoghan," I say in a low voice, laced with anger, "Don't go there. I don't want to do this, but it's for the best, if it were up to me I'd be going home... or Madripoor."
"Jesus Christ," he whispers, "Right, well you'll stay in touch, that's for sure. And you'll call Orlaith in the morning, she's worried about you... Tommy too."
I perk up at that, "Tommy? How is he? Is he okay? Have they done anything to him? I swear I'll kill them if they touched a hair on his head," I fire question after question.
"Tommy's fine, he just wants to know how you are, what you're doing etc. They haven't done anything to him, not that I know of at least. Look, I'll get Orlaith to call you in the morning, she'll have Tommy with her and you can talk to them both, okay? It's getting late."
I sigh and look to the ground, "Alright, I have to go back to sleep anyways."
"OĂche mhaith, m'inĂon. Go mbeadh aisling alĂĄinn agat."
(Goodnight, my daughter. Have sweet dreams.)
"OĂche mhaith daidĂ, go raibh mĂle maith agat."
(Goodnight dad, thanks a million.)
And with that I hang up. My eyes fog over with tears and I simply let them fall. I've been crying a lot more lately; I feel like a fricken crybaby. A lot of emotions have been stirring up and I hate it, I hate the weakness that's overcoming me. I can't let myself feel so deeply, especially negatively... not after last time.
I go back into the bedroom and get into bed. I hug myself and shrink into the hoodie as best I can. It used to be Eoghan's, this hoodie, he gave it to me when I first moved into St. Marie's. I barely had anything and he just gave me the hoodie, it's definitely not perfect, it has burns around the cuffs and the zipper always gets a bit stuck halfway up, but I wouldn't give it up for anything. It's like a safety blanket for me, it makes me think of him and feel safe. After a few minutes I eventually drift off to sleep.
° â -------- âąâąâą ------- â ° â -------- âąâąâą ------- â°
I stayed in the bedroom most of the morning, on my phone messaging a tumblr mutual. Her URL is FriendlessGhost17, mine is Coilean07. We met last year, round abouts when a week into me living at St. Marie's. She lives in NYC and so it might be a good idea to talk to her in case we end up running into each other. We've facetimed and called many times but we've never actually met in person.
I say my goodbyes and sigh. Life just sucks a lot at the moment, but what can I say? That's what happens when you go down the road of off-the-books illegal experimentation, I guess.
I hear a knock on the door, "Come in," I say, not looking up from my scrolling.
"You gonna join the land of the livin' today?" I look up and see Sam, arms crossed, leaning in the doorway.
"Uh, yeah, I just- I was messaging a friend," I tell him.
"Nothing revealing though, right?" he raises an eyebrow.
"Of course not," I dismiss, "I'm not an amateur. I told her I was with my sister but have to leave her again. I don't always tell the truth, but I'm always honest. It's a fine line to walk but a good loophole to have."
Sam ventures further into the room, "So you're good at what you do, that's reassuring... I think. Look I know this isn't gonna be fun for you, staying with Stark, but sometimes that's just how it is, that's how life is."
"Not gonna be fun? You really don't know me, do you?" I laugh humourlessly.
"No, no I don't," Sam admits, shaking his head and sitting on the edge of the bed next to me.
"Well, essentially Stark has hurt everyone I love and, I can hold a grudge like nobody's business. It's not just gonna be 'not fun' it's gonna feel like a betrayal. But I don't wanna focus on that, I wanna enjoy my time before I go to that stuck-up, narcissistic ass."
Sam smiles for a second, "You know, Steve would be disappointed if he heard that kinda language out of you."
I raise an eyebrow, "He was in the army and from the 40s, I'm sure he has no room to talk. I bet people make assumptions and he just doesn't dispute them. I bet his birthday isn't even the fourth of July, someone assumed it was and now he lives in fear of anyone finding his birth certificate."
Sam laughed out loud at that and I had to join him, I've been on tumblr long enough to have to many thoughts about America's favourite boy scout. Sam and I talk for a while, about Steve, about Wanda, I even get some stories about his old days in the army. He tells me about the missions he flew and I learn more about his wings. Then he tells me how he met Steve and Natasha.
"So he, he lapped you how many times?" I ask incredulously.
"Thirteen. He lapped me thirteen times! And he kept saying 'on your left' to like warn me he was lapping me, like it felt like he was doing it on purpose," Sam scowls.
"He probably was, I mean I read about him a bit in school and apparently he was always a little shit, he just got away with it since he was a stick and had like every illness to ever exist in the 30s," I tell him.
"Maybe," Sam says, "But yeah, that's how we met. And then a few days later he shows up at my house with Natasha and tells me 'everyone we know is tryna kill us' like no hellos, no 'how are you's, just straight to the point."
"And you just let them in?" I cock an eyebrow.
"Well yeah, Captain America shows up at your door, what are you not gonna let him in?"
"It would make a pretty funny story don't you think? 'Captain America and Black Widow showed up at my house and I turned them down.' I think that'd be hilarious. But naw, I'd let them in surely."
Then there's a vibration from my phone. I look at the screen as it lights up and see that Orlaith sent me a snap.
I look back up to continue the conversation with Sam but he shakes his head.
"You can talk to your friends, don't worry. I just talked your ear off for the last hour or so, you can get back to your friend now," he tells me.
I smile at him softly, "Thanks Sam. And this talk was good, by the way, you didn't talk my ear off. You distracted me and I appreciate it."
He gets off the bed and turns to me, "That used to be my job you know, helping other Vets with PTSD. I thought you'd prefer to be distracted than reminded of what's happening and so I just catered to that rather than pushing you."
"Really Sam, thank you. But now I gotta have a difficult conversation about what's happening so... I guess I can't put it off any longer," I sigh.
"Good luck, Fianna, you can do this," Sam tells me before leaving and closing the door.
I open the message from Orlaith.
I find Orlaith's number in my contact list and hit call.
It only takes one ring and she picks up, "Hiiii, how did it go?"
"It went good Orlaith," I tell her, a smile already on my face from hearing her voice. "And I got to see Wands again which has done me wonders, really."
"That's great to hear, oh and you're on speaker," Orlaith tells me.
"Hey Fi," I hear Tommy's voice and I nearly start crying.
"Mo dearthair bheag Tommy, ta sĂ© ar dĂłigh le do guth a cloisteĂĄil arĂs. Cad Ă© mar atĂĄ tĂș, coilĂ©an bheag?" I ask, slipping into my first language after hearing my baby brother's voice for the first time in a couple weeks.
(My little brother Tommy, how amazing it is to hear your voice again. How are you, little pup?"
"TĂĄim I gceart, MactĂre," he mocks, "Agus an miste leat gan ag cuir sin orm? NĂ pĂĄiste mĂ© nĂos mĂł!"
(I'm fine, MactĂre. And do you mind not calling me that? I'm not a kid anymore!)
"Ach is pĂĄiste thĂș dom. Bheul, ar a laghad is dearthair bheag s'agam thĂș. MĂĄ chuireann sĂ© isteach ort an mĂ©id sin, stadfaidh mĂ©."
(But you're a kid to me. Well, you're my little brother at least. If it annoys you that much I'll stop.)
"Hey! Is grå liom go bhfuil sibh in ann labhairt le chéile ach tå mise anseo fostaaa!" Orlaith butts in.
(Hey! I love that you're able to talk but I'm here toooo!)
"Ceart go leor, sionnach," Tommy says, "Cad Ă© ar mhaith leat a labhairt faoi?"
(Fine, Fox. What would you like to talk about?)
"First of all, that nickname is so old, like first year old. And that was like four years ago. Anyway, let's start with where your big sis is? Huh, how about that?" Orlaith begins, slipping back into English.
"Well... I may or may not be in the palace of Wakanda," I reveal. I can trust them, they won't tell.
"You're where?" Tommy questions.
"Wakanda."
"Get de fuck!" he exclaims.
"I'm not messing Tom. And I'm not staying here much longer either."
"You're coming back home again?" Orlaith asks.
"Not- not exactly, Orls," I pinch the bridge of my nose, trying to figure out a way to tell them, to tell Tommy that I'm not coming home. "I'm going to New York, I'm going to New York, a thaisce, and I have to stay with Stark."
(Love {term of endearment})
"With- With Stark as in Tony Stark?" Orlaith asks.
"As in the one who you despise with a burning passion?" Tommy adds on.
"Yeah, that's, that would be him," I sigh.
"How are you- How will he survive that?" Tommy asks.
"Why do you have to go to that cunt?" Orlaith questions at the same time.
"Orlaith!" I hear Eoghan scolding her in the background, they must be at St. Marie's.
"Sorry Eoghan, sorry Tommy," Orlaith apologises.
"Hey Eoghan," I say into the phone.
"Hey Fia, I'm just making sure these two got through de ye. I still think ye should be here, but never mind me, keep yer chin up, I'll talk de ye later," he tells me, his parental feelings slipping through the professional mask he tries to wear.
"Of course Eo, we'll talk later," I reassure.
"I have de leave now, Liam's looking another pint," he tells me.
"Bye Eoghannnn," I sing.
"Goodbye Fianna."
"Well, back to our conversation," Tommy says, "Why are you going de Stark of all people?"
"Essentially I might have accidentally made myself an international criminal when helping Wands," I say, my voice raising octaves as I speak.
"Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey they rode in on. How did ye manage that Fianna?" Tommy asks incredulously.
"TomĂĄs Ronan McConnell!" I reprimand. "What have I tol' you about blasphemy?"
"Not to," he grumbles.
"Exactly, so would you like to rephrase that?" I raise an eyebrow and I know he can feel it through the phone.
"How did you manage de be a criminal helping your sister?" he rephrases the question.
I smile at Tommy calling Wanda my sister, he might never have met her but he still considers her my sister, and even his in a way.
"Look, it was just a job gone wrong. It's not even... it's not my choice, I have de go t' Stark because he can protect me from the Feds. But... I won't be with him for long," I lie. I don't want to lie, but I need to protect them, if they think I'm coming back then they won't take it so hard.
"Right, well ye better get back soon okay? I miss my bitch of a big sister!" Tommy tells me and tears prick my eyes.
"Yeah, yeah I'll be back soon," I nod, tears falling as I keep my voice steady, "And when I get back we're spending the whole day together, I don't care what Erin and Shéa have to say about it."
"All three of us," Orlaith adds, "And we're gonna have the best time, right? We'll go to The Amusements and we'll go de the cinema and we'll go to Foyleside and just spend the whole day together.
"We will," the tears falling with ease but I keep my voice level, "God, I can't wait to see you two again. When I get back yous'll be sick of me, clinging de yous like a wane."
There's a beat of silence as we think about that day... the day that won't come for a long time. Not that they know that. It still hurts though; I miss my brother and my best friend. But no more tears, I wipe them away and clear my throat.
"We have to go," Orlaith says guiltily. "Mam is looking me back in ten minutes and Tommy needs to get back before they realise how long he's been gone."
"Okay, okay," I inhale sharply "Slån Tommy, slån Orlaith. Is grå liom sibh béirt le mo chroà iomlån. Feicfidh mé sibh gan mhoill, yeah?"
"SlĂĄn Fianna, is grĂĄ liom thĂș. Feicfidh mĂ© thĂș nĂos moille," Orlaith says.
"SlĂĄn Fianna, chonaic mĂ© thĂș nĂos moille. Is grĂĄ liom thĂș," Tommy says and I laugh a little.
"Bye," I say and I hang up.
I hear a knock at the door and wipe my tears quickly, erasing any evidence of my crying. I tell them to come in and it's Bucky. We haven't really spoken much, between not knowing each other and wanting to stay close to the ones we're leaving we haven't had the time to bond, I guess.
"Hey," he says timidly, staying in the doorway.
"Hey," I reply, just as timid.
"The others are discussing their plans, I think everyone's moving out tomorrow," he informs me.
"Okay, thanks for letting me know," I say, putting my phone in my hoodie pocket before standing and making my way to leave the room.
