warnings: this imagine is not based off the justin bieber song, but i think it suits the imagine. i also used they/them pronouns for the reader since those are annie’s pronouns.

“who wants to go shopping?” you asked, poking your head into the living room area of the house. “nobody,” mackie mumbled, eyes transfixed on the television. “oh eddy don’t pass to him,” he said, fingers flying over the controller. you were supposed to be hanging out with your friends. everyone was gathered at the sophomore’s house: mark, mackie, ethan, luke, duker, a handful of the media girls, and you. then, you remembered that you still needed to buy a gift for your sister. 

you were going home for the holidays, and while your family had their issues, you still tried to bring some holiday spirit. “please. i just need one buddy, that’s it!” you begged, making prayer hands. 

“sorry y/n/n, but we’re all busy,” mark answered, a sympathetic smile on his face. his attention left you quickly as something exciting happened in the video game. “i can go with you tomorrow,” lauren suggested, patting your shoulder. “thanks, but i have to pack tomorrow. at this rate i’ll just go alone,” you answered, giving her a grateful smile before walking away to gather your belongings.

the vampire diaries universe really has a difficult time letting their female characters be simultaneously kind and nurturing while also showing them to be strong and capable women, which is why hayley is so refreshing to see. yes, she’s a mother and a voice of reason within the chaotic mikaelson family but she’s also ruthless and petty at times. she’s headstrong and able to speak and fight for herself, but she’s also vulnerable and longs for someone to take care of her (which I think comes from her being forced to grow up with herself as her only form of protection)

What I actually came here to say is I started reading a darker shade of magic three days ago and I can’t stop. 160 pages in rn and I gotta say I owe Holland an apology bc when he showed up and started acting all sketchy towards the prince I had NO IDEA what kind of bullshit he is dealing with in his own universe.

Like booktok thinks Cardan has problems with his shitty brother?? Wait until they hear about those psychopaths at the white London (if that’s not the name in English nevermind me, I’m translating)????

I am SCARRED.

But if you ask me from a writing standpoint I will say I find it a fascinating parallel to the conflicting thoughts Kell currently has about himself and the royal family, and how his kind are seen more as goods than actual people. What happened to Holland is the perfect example of the life he could be leading if his king and queen were a little less nice.

That said I am also curious if Holland’s flirting with the prince comes from himself, or if he’s being ordered to do that as well, and the implications of it. I’m horrified. And fascinated. Can’t wait to read more tomorrow.

Having thoughts about Ray's relationship with his grandparents...

My headcanon for Owynn's parents is that they're dreadful people who treat their son like shit and would treat their grandson even worse if allowed, so I don't think he's met them except perhaps in passing. Owynn doesn't like his parents, so he has no reason to take him to them, and you couldn't force Owynn's parents and Eak to interact civilly for more than a minute- so no attempt has been made to create any sort of relationship from either side. Ray is curious about what they're like, but what little he knows about them is enough to assure him that he's not missing much by not having them in his life.

Eak's parents are messier territory. There's a lot of resentment on both sides of the relationship, but Eak does still love and somewhat respects his parents to an extent, and wants them to be grandparents to his kid. But the bad blood between them makes it kind of hard for that bond to truly blossom. Especially since what imploded the relationship in the first place was Ray's existence.

Still, Raymond does have a decent relationship with his grandparents from Eak's side... So long as they're not talking about Eak himself. Ray is a huge daddy's boy, and feels exceedingly awkward and frustrated when his grandparents occasionally shit talk Eak about his life choices and beliefs and associates. Like wtf people don't bad-mouth your own son in front of your grandkid.

Also they're... Really Bad about Eak being a teen parent, even years later when things have cooled down. And when I say bad I mean the first time the topic was brought up they told the kid that he was a mistake and he ruined Eak's life, an event they only survived because Eak wouldn't risk ending up in jail for their murders since he has a child to raise :) But it did make him stop all contact with them for a long while, until Raymond asked to see them again. And all subsequent visits with them were supervised because there was no way Eak was going to allow that shit show to happen again.
