like im sorry but i dont like that 'fictional characters are objects' post that acts like caring about the real life implications of how you treat a character is going into a purity spirals or what have you bc like. fandoms can be and are racist about characters of color. it doesnt reallly matter if the character isnt real, if you're racist abt a fictional character that can and does bleed over into real life and it does make fandom spaces actively hostile to actual poc. has anyone else here ever heard of RaceFail this has been going on for years and acting ignorant abt it isnt cute

it doesnt even really matter if op wasnt thinking abt race when they made that post bc if they make an incredibly broad statement like "any sort of 'unpleasant' treatment of a fictional character is ok bc its fictional and it doesnt reflect what kind of person you are in real life" that shuts down any criticism of it as being obsessed with purity optics then they are in fact giving a pass to people being racist, sexist, pedophilic, etc to various characters. people are in fact racist in real life because of fandom and it starts with how they treat characters like that bc it then gives a message to other people in the community what kind of behavior is allowed and who is welcome there (and who is excluded)

Im..... That statement is so ableist I cannot even imagine the worldview you'd need to have in order to come up with that.

They really think the only way anyone learns anything is through verbal-speaking-words-noises? No one has ever observed something before? Not even once?

OH YES. I remember my first day of Society Lessons as a hearing person, where the everything was explained to me. Via Audiobook. FIRST they spoke and said, "you are standing on the ground." It was a life changing revelation, and the world began to spin.

But it did not stop.

THEN they said, "there are fingers on your hands." The sensation of flesh and bone crackling into existence is indescribable, but I did not yet know pain, until they told me, "that hurts." I began screaming immediately.

And yet... it continued.

They explained so much. Chairs. Tables. Walls. The sky. Frogs. Ionizing radiation. Breathing. I was told all of it, in one sitting, and only then did I understand. Only when my ears were bursting with normal hearing knowledges, did they begin... my final test.

A strange wall-chair-finger emerged from the sky-of-the-wall, stood on the ground several times, until it was in front of me. A second one came behind it, this one slimmer. The audiobook gave these things names;

Human. Father. Mother. Door. Walking. It was completely impossible to know what these things were until that very moment.

I watch a human dip a hook into water and produce a fish, and I recall my Society Lessons where they called that "fishing." I am decked in the face by a nefarious hooligan, and I have only the audiobook to thank when I know I have been "punched" by a "bad guy." It was only the magic of verbal-speaking-words-noise that made me understand that there are "other people" and that they "do stuff."

Sometimes, even, in "groups."

Before the Society Lessons Audiobook, I knew nothing. I was pure, innocent, uncorrupted by concepts such as "parents" and "door." I am grateful every day that there is no such concept as "being shown things" or "simple logical reasoning" or "looking."

Blessed be those amongst us who escape the horrors of the Society Lessons Audiobook. I pray that you never learn what anything is. Be free! Free as a bird, which also knows nothing and famously cannot learn. 🤗

Not to sound like a gatekeeper or a boomer or whatever, But the whole entire social media intense marketing environment clip creation and The whole entire "new to (Doctor )who" YouTube shorts/tiktok series Pisses me the fuck off because, unless you're from the UK, you should not discover Doctor who not through intense marketing and shiny adverts etc et cetera.... You should discover it at a low point in your life and randomly on some regard. In the fact that they've cut out certain information from these little videos that is cannon in the actual show.... Fucking sets my teeth on edge.

watching kev's post-race interview as well as his radio from the race, I will say that I absolutely agree with him on how ridiculous his penalty is. not the getting a penalty but the severity of the penalty.

danny ric almost sent nico into the wall at high speed. 5 seconds with 1 penalty point.

kev had some contact with gasly because he locked up while entering a corner at low speed, contact which in the end didn't really affect the race for either of them and there was no damage, no real "dangerous moment". 10 seconds and two penalty points.

I'm not excusing kev or blaming danny or anything like that. kev had contact, it was on him. daniel pushed nico off, that's on him. that's that. I'm calling the FIA out on their bullshit. if the purpose of penalty points is to penalize drivers for "dangerous or risky driving", how do you excuse giving 2 points for low speed contact that really set no one at risk and 1 point for a moment that could've ended up with a driver seriously injured if nico had lost the car there. I understand that for them, locking up means he isn't in control of his car which is the "risky" part. but that is half driver, half car. if you push a driver off track, almost causing them to crash at 300km/h, is that not worse?

again, I'm not pointing a finger at any driver being like "oh you're at fault more than others". this is not on the drivers. I want some braincells in the FIA. you can't have a square shape mold for what you give penalties for and forcefully squeeze ten different shapes into it.

sure lol i’ve considered it but the older i’ve gotten & the more i’ve learned abt how the publishing industry actually works the less it’s become a priority… “author” was like my dream job as a kid but it takes a lot of time & money & connections that i simply don’t have rn 2 write & publish novels so! maybe one day i’ll give it a go but 4 now i’m more focused on writing & publishing nonfiction articles/research as part of my work…of course that is not something i will make money from lol but it’s what i’ve gotta do if i want a shot at building a career in my desired field so. current priority lies there…
