Hi I was wondering if you have any tips to optimise ts2??
hi nonners! i'm reading optimise as in make the game work smoother/better? sorry, weird day, feel free to correct me if i got it wrong! tbh my game has been unbelievably smooth lately and i'm kinda scared that saying that will jinx it, but here goes. hope it helps!
i use sims 2 rpc launcher with the included 4gb patch, i don't use the higher quality lot impostors as i've found that it bogs way too much memory for not much improvement (i never find myself taking pictures where the other neighboring lots aren't blurred due to reshade)
use graphics rules maker to recognize your graphics card. i also use it to force memory size estimate to be higher, following @/anachronisims tips (i recommend following them for some cool posts on optimization!). i currently have mine set to 13268 and it's been doing good
i have the whole suite of anti corruption mods, which i'm not going to link here but should be easy to find a guide on. if corruption is an issue take some time to set all objects.packages to read only, i recommend april black's excellent video on the issue
i usually delete my caches between opening my game, but this post by @/anachronisims has me questioning my practices. will update when i test it out
in the last couple of months i've been making sure that neighbors and decorations are off when loading into a lot. i reenable it when i've loaded into the lot, and disable/reenable everytime i go from lot to lot. @/anachronisims has summarized this really well here.
every once in a while i make sure to run the compressiorizer on my downloads (not my mods) and merge files. @/eleysims has a great post summarizing their process that i recommend as a starting point. personally, i've had success merging my object textures even if it includes masters and repo'd textures, i just never merge meshes. i also have merged my hair textures, haven't tried merging clothes textures yet, but will attempt doing so in the future.

Services Discontinued, Hardware Failure.
Summary: Courtney finds something entirely wrong with Hoenn. Or the author got sad about his 3DS and its SD card having problems.
CW: Hardware failure, software deletion, data deletion as a metaphor for death, mass death, mentions of interpreted suicidal behavior (Team Magma, Project AZOTH). Intended to be read on light mode for hidden text at the end.
The end of the world usually was a plan in her head.
Leader Maxie and Team Magma’s plan.
Team Aqua’s plan if she really had to include those brutes…
Project AZOTH and the meteor.
But this? This was comparable to her thought process.
That thought had chilled her to the bone. Something she did not like. Her worldview, she could agree was a strange one, it was in a way… ‘robotic.’ She was an analytical woman. She understood how it worked, fixed on it to the point of unnerving her grunts, and did it all with a singsong in her tone.
So why did Courtney had a sudden feeling of dread in her stomach when something flashed in her head? She couldn’t put her finger on it. What it really was. It had started a while ago. The servers of the former Team were down. Nobody could send anybody anything. Which was very. Frustrating. Indeed. It had come back. And then it continued turning on and off. Tabitha had huffed about it. She could not blame him, she had gritted her teeth about it too.
Then Hoenn’s communication was cut completely. Nothing went in. Nothing went out. The power was still on, but phones, computers? No calls, no internet access, nothing. It was unanticipated. People tried making their own servers, vpns, and the like, but it was… pointless. Also unanticipated.
Of course, people blamed both Team Magma and Aqua. They of course did not do such, and it left a sour taste in her mouth to sully Magma’s name like that. The boy and the girl had to come out and say that they had no part of this, which was anticipated and somewhat appreciated, but it also was not their fault so the baseless accusations commence an experiment.
The experiment… was unanticipated. She traded her own Pokémon remotely, and they were fine. Trying to connect to the internet to do the same thing despite she was in the same room? It didn’t work. She tried again. This time borrowing a Rotom from the boy and a Porygon from the girl. They were from Kalos and Mirage Island, respectively. Though trading wasn’t her only motivation.
She was sure researchers were already using Porygon to look inside this strange phenomenon, but Courtney didn’t care, wanting analyze for herself. Her target was locked as she browsed many a sleepless night through trying to understand this all. She squinted at Rotom’s origin. What was… GER? She couldn’t figure it out and that was frankly anticipated given she was locked on her more important current goal.
Eventually Porygon found something corrupted while it was searching, placing it onto an SD card for her to open and look inside.
“Ah… thank you… What do we… have here…?” She remembered herself saying to it. The Porygon chirped, bitcrushed, but happy to help. Rotom made a slight blink, perhaps jealous it didn’t find anything first. But the problem wasn’t the motors, she knew for a fact.
It was slow. Too slow. Courtney knew slow and she knew big files like this could take a while but… These were the scientists’ computers. They could handle these things. And then her memory cut out like a switch.
The next thing she remembered was a black light. Not a blacklight. It was black yet it was gleaming. When she blinked, she saw Camerupt poking at her with her snout. Did she faint? Porygon and Rotom were worriedly racing around. Perhaps due to her spell.
“I am… alright… Do not… worry.” Courtney said as she stood up on shaky legs. She pulled back up her hood, trying to think. The spell reminding her of the first flash in her head. She swore it was gray. But this was pitch black. …Strange, it was strange.
“Deleting…” She mumbled as she went back to Rotom and Porygon… Z. She turned her head. It was not a Porygon2. There was not a disk of dubious nature. That was… impossible from her current perspective. Rotom shivering side to side as it looked on now to its corrupted friend. Courtney stared at its erratic movements. Her target locked, she slowly reached out a gloved hand towards it. Physically, it seemed fine, besides the twitching, but internally…
Her eyes moved back to the computer. She immediately went towards it, feeling a shiver down her spine. Her own Pokémon was wary, but she didn’t touch it, just stared at the error. The program was corrupted. But how? That was the question. She touched the keyboard and it zapped into her head again. She might’ve yelped. She wasn’t sure.
Everything was gone. It was pitch black again and yet it was bright like a light. Words in front of her that she couldn’t read like she was in a dream. Somehow she understood them.
Courtney just started to cry. Her breath in hitches.
“Aha… hah… haha…” It wasn’t funny.
Why was she so scared?
She was so scared.
Why did this feel worse than before? She was never scared before. Why was she suddenly trembling? Hot tears rolling down her cheeks. She did not want to face the inevitability. She hated it. She hated it.
She was never a hugging person. Or maybe her friend and boss were never hugging persons back. She did not remember hugging them tightly as she sobbed into their uniforms. Courtney did not like to cry in front of them. Not since they told her not to. It was embarrassing.
Somehow she had the analysis that in this moment both Leader Maxie and Tabitha didn’t care. Did they know? They had to have known. They could see it too, right? Did everyone in Hoenn see it?
They had to. They had to have seen it. Courtney buried her face. The words engraved in her mind as her eyes shut down. The world becoming bright with darkness.
An error has occurred. Hold down the POWER Button to turn off the power, then turn it on and try again.
For help, visit support.nintendo.com.
Maybe adventures can be taken again… but they’ll never be the same, never interacting with the outside world and the journey never the first.

/chin on hands I would like to hear about Jak X and why it's your favorite! If you're up for it/don't mind.
OMG YES *OPENS PANDORA'S BOX*
sO I played this game when I was like 8-9-10 y/o. I met the saga through The Lost Frontier lmao but my English was very bad so I couldn't play much of the game and sent my dad to change it. iirc, the game he came back with was Jak X, if not then I got it another time I went to the store and said "surprise me".
since I had tried googling about TLF to help me pass the game, I got familiarized with the rest of the games as well. I had a (very) vague idea of the story through amvs and fanmade content. so then I got to play the game, the story was much shorter cuz it was only one game, and the playing mechanics were basically Mario kart (which I had played a lot previously) so I had a way easier time understanding things. I guess that made me closer to this game in particular. Also I asked the store for the main trilogy but they could never get them.
Plus I actually replayed it a dozen times cause of the fucking save file corruption bug, it was years of frustration cause I could never reach the end of the game without losing my progress. I eventually got a second memory card and tried again, this time with a strategy of cloning the save on each card. But by that time I had already watched the cutscenes on YouTube cause I genuinely thought I could never do it on my own. Still, getting to finish the game was like a life goal being achieved
Tldr years long frustration + learning to like bad guys lmao
NOW since I was a small kid I haTED Mizo's crew with a passion cause they were evil bad guys and that was all I could see. I had a special hate spot for Razer and UR-86. And the fact that I couldn't beat the game felt like they were winning against me and I was failing to save Jak's team from the poison. But then puberty hit and I admitted to myself that I had a crush on Razer LMAO and I became Mizo's crew #1 fanboy. Before I realized I was thinking of backstories, headcanons, ships, self inserting myself on the team or as their rival who ends up warming up to them
I got to play the other games when I was 15 (it was around this time that I got to beat Jak x too) and that made me appreciate X even more because they really didn't need to go THAT HARD yet they did!!! and I'm so glad!!!! It gave us more time with Jak + a different side to him, a lot of depth in world building, character development for Keira (I had very protective parents so I feel her) AND THEY FINALLY KISSED OMG TOOK YOU BOTH DUMMIES LONG ENOUGH + that plot wist with GT and then the Rayn one at the very end holy shit
IT'S JUST SUCH A MASTERPIECE SORRY THIS IS SO LONG
now a lil on my love for the baddies: we get literally zero stuff from them except for Mizo's daddy issues and Razer's sassyness so this part is mostly me going full delulu. Most of my attention at first was on Razer obviously and I always love/hated him, I feel like I wouldn't stand him but God he's so cool. Then one day I randomly started adoring Shiv?? I just thought he'd be such a chill guy and started picturing us as besties??? Edge I feel would be Shiv's kinda close friend, we see them together most of the time they have in X after all. And then Cutter's the most reserved one, I picture him being actually really sweet but you Have To Get There.
Now I need to draw my self insert so bad omgggg
Also I can recite the Spanish version of the opening scene by heart
OK THAT GOT LONG ENOUGH thank you so much for asking I loved writing all this and would love to hear your thoughts on the game (ʃƪ^3^)
#clover.txt#jak x#jak & daxter#holy moly that was a lot#the details of how i got to know the games and in which order are fuzzier than i though#but honestly it was such a fever dream that i dont think it matters that much#i was v small and knew little to no english so all i could rely on were amvs and crack videos

Blaze of Glory
Reincarnated into a trashy Fanfiction to play a trashy character and just have the pressure put on reader also in an omegaverse. Being the villain does not sound that bad becoming the bad guys does not sound that bad. What Blaze doesn’t realize is that he has a harem building. They don’t mind sharing this light that they found in this world.
Chapter 1
This shit show started when <Name> woke up in the body of Blaze Wakaba. A scummy F-Rated Villain.
Great.
Blaze was somehow taken to an omegaverse alternate reality Fanfiction of My Hero Academia. Blaze was a scummy villain the one who messes with Toga on Shigaraki side and on Midoriya side Ochoco in this world there are two super villains. All Smite and All for one are two separate villains grouped that’s why no one wants to help Japan in this crisis. The Next problem would be the Hero Commission and their twisted ways but not the main point.
The nasty thing to this is that it’s in a Omegarverse.
Fuck This. Blaze thinks as he takes into consideration his situation. He is a Shitty villain in an omegaverse where everyone will kill him because everyone is corrupt.
‘Why did I get reincarnated or whatever, I should have stayed home.’ Blaze thinks to himself as he sees the shabby looking apartment that looks like a child could knock over. Searching around the apartment he finds an Id card.
To where take a guess that’s right……..
Yuuei High School.
Fuck.
Okay he’s at the begging at the story where he is a second year to the first year to the first year’s main story. He is a kid sponsored by The Hero commission to spy and to infiltrated and shut down Nezumi.
“Jesus these kids never got a break”. Blaze says as he looks over the files and takes in the mess, he is in.
Well at least he was an alpha.
Looking at HIS student file under REDACTED he was taken by the hero commission and was violated. He had all his glands removed that made his scentless he had to take hormones for a bit, but the Commission only wanted him to grow to his prime best. There was a hard headache that attacked Blaze in between his eyes and the memories flew in. The other body experience he felt it was cold and a part of himself wanted to reach in himself and rip his heart and gnaw on the flesh. He wanted to smash his face he just wanted to disappear. His room in the Hero Commission gave him felt disgusting and he felt like it wasn’t his. It was ripped, clawed, and just sliced with his quirk.
The commission doctors had to give him relaxers and slowly adapt him back. He was given even harsher training and more conditioning. Then was the fact that he was transferred to Yuuei as a spy, not to mention that the Commission put in some of their people as instructors. They were relentless with his training. Everyday he would be pushed to the limit puking after lesson, broken bones, chained to the treadmill, etcetera.
This sucks ass.

Haven't done a computer status update in a little bit. Raspberry Pi media server has been psuedo-retired. It's currently still functioning as a media server for a christmas display at my wife's work until the end of December.
It has been successfully replaced by the Dell Optiplex that I got from work. I was able to skip the process of building a migration script for the server (to allow files to be moved and refound via filename & hash), but only because I've been mapping storage outside the server's webroot via link files in the upload directory. So on the new HD the files are actually in the upload directory rather than linked to it. As far as the server knows they're in the same place.
I transferred the software between machines by making a new install of vogon on the optiplex and then importing a mysqldump of the existing install into it, bringing the user accounts, media data, and other configuration elements with it. I did end up changing the storage engine of the data and data_meta tables into innodb (from isam) and adding some additional indexing. There were some noticeable performance differences on the generated join queries between servers. We were looking at 7sec+ lookup times for searches in the audio module. I'm still not sure if it's a mariadb version difference between raspbian and ubuntu lts, if something got corrupted in the export/import process, or if it was some strange storage lookup difference between running the database off of a SETA Hard-Drive versus an SD card. I initially thought maybe it was a fragmentation issue, but the built in optimization processes didn't really impact it, but with the adjustments to the indexing we're regularly getting query times measured in microseconds versus seconds, so it's working pretty well now.
The x86 processor and the faster storage (without the power dropout issues) have really improved the experience. Especially with reading comic books.
If I haven't explained it before, the way the CBZ reader works is that it sends a file list from the archive to the browser, the browser requests an image, and the server extracts the image data into RAM, base64 encodes it, and sends it back to the browser. It's a process that is bottlenecked by both CPU and storage speeds, so it's noticeably snappier on the new machine, even if the CPU is over a decade old at this point.
I'm actually considering taking a crack at forking mozilla's pdf.js to work a similar way, sending a page of data at a time, to decrease transfer times and allow lower memory devices to open large PDFs without having to actually download the whole thing. I suspect that means I'm going to have to build smaller single page PDF files on the fly, which would mean coming up with some kind of solution for in document links. I'm still in the phase of deciding if it's enough of a problem to put effort into solving, so I haven't done enough research to know if it will be easy or difficult. It's always hard to tell in situations like this because just about every web reader project assumes downloading the whole file, and the question is do they do it this way because it's hard to sub-divide the format, or do they do it because full clientside logic can be demoed on github pages.

Just about the last thing I needed to have happen whilst I’m in the process of trying to move out/away from where I currently live and into my very own place (and stressing about just how ridiculously expensive that is when you neither have a partner/s.o nor want a roommate to split the bills with) was for my gaming computer to die. And yet that’s exactly what happened when I got home after work last night. After 7 long years of arduous, faithful service she’s finally calling it quits… kinda. It all started with me trying to boot it up & it getting stuck in an endless loop of “Windows is attempting to diagnose/repair your computer” before restarting and doing it all over again. I was absolutely terrified that the hard drive had died/become corrupted because although the GTX1080 is the most valuable part of that computer in a monetary sense, it’s only the hard drive that is completely irreplaceable as it contains damn near a decade of photos & memories that I have no backup of. So imagine my relief when I was able to access the BIOS & confirm via Command Prompt that the hard drive was totally healthy. But then that begged the question… wtf else could possibly be causing it to fail to boot?
I turned off/unplugged everything, opened it up, and began disconnecting & removing everything that wasn’t essential. First the graphics card came out and in its place I used the motherboards onboard graphics card – and then after that the SSD & disc drive was disconnected. Now I only had a motherboard, hard drive, and RAM - which was all I should have needed. But when I plugged the computer back in and turned it on I found, to my dismay, that absolutely nothing was happening. The fans were spinning and the lights came on but there was absolutely nothing being displayed on the screen – not even the BIOS. Great, I thought, you’ve just fried the mother board.
And so I went to bed feeling absolutely defeated.
But when I awoke at 4AM I decided I wasn’t ready to accept defeat just yet and began stripping out even more parts until the only thing I had was the motherboard itself, and from there I began to troubleshoot by plugging components in one at a time & then turning it on to see what would happen – until eventually I once again had the BIOS being displayed on my monitor (it turns out that swapping the RAM chips with one another was the solution… although I have absolutely no idea why) and from there it was just a matter of dicking around in Command Prompt until I was able to force Windows to boot properly by ordering it too repeatedly.
So now I have access to my computer and all its files – minus the SSD, which I’m too afraid to try and reconnect just yet. And I had time before work this morning to slide on over to Walmart real quick & pick myself up an external hard drive which I’m now in the process of backing up all my important things onto. But, sadly, the reality of the situation is that I don’t think this computer has much of a life after this. I might be able to squeeze a couple more rounds of CoD out of it tonight; but I’m hesitant to even try lest I somehow kill the graphics card in the process. This computer has been showing its age in a lot of weird ways lately and I think it’s time for me to stop being in denial about the fact that I need to start looking to replace it. Like, a couple months ago I turned it on and immediately smelt this burnt metallic sort of smell and subsequently discovered that something must have short-circuited because all but 3 of the USB ports were dead - meaning I could no longer play Microsoft Flight Simulator because I can’t plug in the joystick & flight controls that I spent like $700 on. So now that I’ve had this much of a hard time just booting the damn thing so I’m calling it: she’s reached the end of her life.
Which like I said is just about the last thing I need right now.
Because a new gaming computer isn’t cheap, and neither is trying to live on your own. At all. Like, I’m earning more money right now than I ever have at any other point in my life. More than all but 2 of my friends even. And yet it’s still barely enough to be able to afford to live on my own. I already knew there was a housing crisis and everything… but I had no idea just how bad things really are until just last month when I started looking at places - and it flung me into a really horrible depression when I realized that the average rent around here for a 1 bedroom apartment (that isn’t a shithole) is $1,500 – $1,850 a month. Excluding utilities, of course. And if you think that’s bad just wait till you hear that bachelor apartments around here so small that I wouldn’t even be able to fit my computer desk in them are about $1,250 – $1,450 a month. Again excluding utilities (and often without so much as a parking space.) Hell, even renting a room around here and sharing a kitchen, bathroom, etc. with strangers is about $800 a month.
I could get a monthly mortgage payment on a house for the same sort of price (or even cheaper) than it’s going to cost me to live alone… assuming I had like 50k in the bank to give them upfront, of course.
It’s a fucking nightmare. And I’m starting to understand why so many people I know are in relationships they don’t actually want to be in or living with roommates that they can’t stand/don’t get along with. It’s not just about loneliness. It’s because what other option do they have? They need the financial assistance. Especially those working minimum wage because a “living wage” here is about 4 dollars an hour more than what minimum wage is.
I’m fortunate enough to be earning more than that - but at the same time I’m going to be really tight on money if I try and gain true independence rather than some illusionary version of it. Like, after paying for rent, utilities, car insurance, gasoline to get to/from work, and groceries I’m not going to have very much money left to spend on anything frivolous. And I certainly won’t be able to save money the way that I’m able to right now. I’ll essentially be back to living paycheque to paycheque again. And that fucking sucks. Especially now that I’m going to have to get a new computer.
I really don’t know what to do.
Signing a lease and forking over first & last month’s rent is going to practically obliterate my savings – and what’s left over I feel I should hold onto in case of some sort of emergency (like my car breaking down) so my only options are to either save up at such a slow rate that I’ll be able to afford a computer in a year or two… or finance one. But even then… would I be able to afford the monthly payment?
Because computers, like vehicles & rent, have become insanely expensive these days. So much so that even if I maxed my credit card out I wouldn’t be able to purchase one. I mean, hell, even a GTX1080 like the one I have is more expensive now than it was when I bought it back in 2017. So in order to upgrade rather than just replace what I already have (guess I should say had) I’d probably be looking at having to pay about 4k. Or even more. And in order to replace rather than upgrade it would probably be about 2k.
Like I said, I really don't know what to do. And it’s honestly humiliating/embarrassing to even be talking about it all like this because it feels like as a man the solution is simple: make more money. Like, being in this sort of situation is emasculating in a way that I cannot articulate. Hence the reason for that aforementioned depression. Men are supposed to be all about self-reliance and providing for yourself. So I feel like a complete failure in that regard - because despite the fact that I’m doing better at it than almost anyone else I’m friends with, I’m not doing better than them if you consider their income as the combined income of them and their partner/roommate. Like, a teenage couple who are both working full time and receiving minimum wage have a combined income that is slightly higher than my one friend who has a union job. Let that sink in - you’re financially just as well off shacking up with someone as you would be by learning a trade & joining a union. But the even worse part is that there are ways I could be earning even more than I am right now and I know that. There are careers that I’m qualified for & capable of doing - but pursuing them would take me away from the area I currently call home. And I’m not yet ready to do that because, for various reasons, my heart is stuck here. And I can’t bring myself to leave it here. Not yet, at least.
It’s all got me stressed out & depressed as hell. And the worst part is that once I’m off work this evening instead of being able to go home and distract myself by playing CoD with my friends I’ll instead be messing around trying to get that damn computer functioning - all the while worrying about how I’m going to replace it.
Kinda ironic that I’m more stressed about money now then I ever was at any point during my years of minimum wage work.
I miss how much better things were pre-covid.
Evidently living through inflation & and global economic recession is about as fun as I thought it would be 🙃

PS1 Bugs life, I never had a save file for it, either the game was corrupted or I just never bothered to use a card for it. Which was fine, you could pause it leave come back keep playing. Heck even turning the game off would be okay it'd save your place in the local memory and you'd pick up where you left off so long as you didn't swap the disks. But if you died without a save file it'd drop you back at the beginning. And I was a dumb, but persistent child. I played that game until I got a perfect run. It took years off my life.
saw a poll on here where one of the categories was “I have over 300 hours in a single video game” and people were picking it and saying “I have way more than 300 hours!!” but they were all talking about games like ffxiv or overwatch where there’s a prolonged play element. that’s just not impressive to me. you’re SUPPOSED to have 300 hours in those games. what game do you have over 300 hours in that you absolutely should not be able to have 300 hours in? mine is the ace attorney trilogy

So my xd save got corrupted. I traded a lot of my guys to emerald but some of them got deleted. One of them that was on corrupted file was my solrock and mac's brother NacToday. So now he has dead sibling trauma. Thanks, gamecube memory card.
He seems like he would drink his sorrows away but I also imagine he has a comically pitiful alcohol tolerance and would order milk at a bar. Also he has a wife, who is a hariyama named 1 Ply. Just a twink and their massive wife.
Also, I put him on my tomodachi life island and I put him in the cinema room.

Back-Up Important Media Files: Instead of relying solely on your SD card, create copies of your media files and store them on alternative mediums like an external hard drive or cloud-based services such as Google Drive or Dropbox.
Appropriate Storage for SD Cards: If you own multiple SD cards, consider investing in a case to organize and protect them. Ensure your SD cards are stored safely, without excessive heat or moisture.
Safely Eject from Your Computer: Always use the proper procedure to eject your SD card from your computer. Removing it without proper ejection can disrupt the read/write process, potentially leading to file corruption.
Stop Using the Card if Errors Appear: If you encounter errors or issues with your SD card, cease using it immediately. Retrieve any essential files from the card promptly. Errors signal potential card failure, and continued use may result in significant data loss.
Conclusion
So, we saw, losing valuable videos can be distressing, but with the right approach, recovery is possible. Utilizing backups or advanced tools like Wondershare Recoverit can effectively retrieve deleted videos from SD cards. Its Enhanced Video Recovery feature and comprehensive data retrieval capabilities make it a standout choice. Why.
So, I've been having this issue of my old PC from like 2018 is starting to feel a bit lacking in terms of performance. I'm not like a computer expert by any means so I've given alot of thought as to wether I should get a new one or upgrade this one.
My mind was set on just buying a whole new one so I could run my stuff better. I stumbled upon a video that talks about graphics card performance over the years up to now being not quite as exponential as expected gave me a bit of hope that my smelly 1060 can still do good.
Alittle after that too, my friend was buying a new PC since he's never had a dedicated gaming one. While the friend group was on call, we were just talking about ram and how 8 gigs used to be the alright but now it's the minimum. After that conversation I realized "WAIT A SECOND ALL OF MY PC ISSUES FEEL LIKE A RAM PROBLEM" since I only had 8 gigs.
Without much thought, I went online and bought an extra 8 gig stick which would give me at total of 16 gigs. With great difficulty due to the size of my graphics card, I was able to slot it in properly (2-4 slot thingy) and upon my first boot it was wonderful.
It was like my PC's asthma was cured. I could actually like play my games properly and tab out to discord to talk without it exploding. I tested a bunch of games and felt a giant weight off of my shoulders.
I should preface this by saying I bought a somewhat expensive set of digital isntruments (I don't actually recommend the one I bought) and because it ran terribly but still useable. I had the idea to upgrade my PC because of that.
You could imagine how I felt when the next boot a few hours later things felt "normal". It was like I didn't install that new stick of ram.
To my surprise, the task manager said something like 4.8/8 gigs memory, despite my PC correctly seeing that it has 16 gigs of ram. I didn't quite feel a pit in my stomach but my first thought was "ah fuck I paid for that".
I spent 3 hours or so troubleshooting, taking the PC apart several times, cleaning, slotting in different slots, messing with windows settings and eventually I got it to fully use 16 gigs. It was only shortly lived as during my testing I noticed that on a stress test the memory felt like it was capping at 8 gigs and after a bit more pushing, it just BLUE SCREENED.
It gave me the error code of not being able to access the ram and it rebooted. It started up as normal again but before it can hit my desktop, this time it blue screened againt this time maybe telling me about corrupted system files. At this point I felt like the gif of the emoji disintegrating.
It reboots up one last time and everything seems normal and I can access my desktop.
I check the task manager, it only sees 8 gigs.
I eventually give up and go to bed deciding to take it out when I wake up which leads us to now.
I suppose I'm lucky I didn't catastrophically destroy my PC since I don't have a back up for my files yet (hehe) but like, come on man, I paid money for that stick.
As a last resort I check the listing for any semblance of warranty I could use and behold I see it, the prime reason as to why forces beyond our comprehension decided to mess with me: "Not compatible with AMD processors"
CURSE YOU AMD FOR HAVING A GREAT DEAL FOR PROCESSORS WITH YOUR RYZEN 7
So, lesson learned: Read your tooltips (I'm an ffxiv player)
In all seriousness though, I'm kinda glad I went through the whole process because it gave me insight as to what I need to look out for when I actually get one whole money and buy a new PC.
It also gave me a newfound appreciation for the people in the computer repair industry that do this for a living. I imagine idiots like me walk into the store 200x a second with an easily remedied solution. Can't imagine the patience required haha.
I suppose when I can afford it, I can buy another ram and give it another go. It shouldn't be too hard this time since I'll be walking into the physical store and asking for what I need with my specs.
As for the ram, I might just give it away since it might still work with a non AMD processor. I did pay for it and I wouldn't want it to go to waste.

how’s my day, you ask?
First time I’ve slept over at my girlfriend’s house in a month (she had illness followed by overtime work followed by attitude) and that started the day with a win.
Weather was kinda cool and kinda grey, so I consider this good too because it has been beastly hot.
Went thrifting and the only thing I found was a record from 1962: “Joy To The World: Everybody’s Favorite Christmas Music - The Rainbow Sound of Bianco, His Harp and Orchestra”. I consider a win for the price (seventy-five cents when the place has been marking even the most ridiculously niche stuff $3) and because I only have one other harp Christmas album.
Goodwill has three photo scanners on the shelf. None that I need -- one flatbed that says it does 4800dpi but I know they mean interpolated from 2400dpi, two standalone units which both do 1800dpi and that’s too low. Take photos of them.
Got home and apparently one of my landlady’s four dogs has tummy trouble. It’s not mere husky dogshit in the air today, it’s doggie diarrhea (which can invoke vomiting in even small doses) and even the upstairs hallway is dense with the smell.
Go in my room, it’s like 82 degrees for some reason, so open the window. Oh, that causes a vacuum making the hallway air come through the doorcracks, and my computer is five feet from the door. Orange spray outside, close the window inside and suffer for awhile.
Sit down to get the pictures off my phone. My phone is suddenly doing that stupid thing where it is corrupting the memory card but the thumbs are still there, and before I can plug in it now says there’s no memory card at all so they’re gone. Replace the memory card, still more stupidity. Here’s a photo of the phone and I cannot find anything in Google about this issue:
Decide it’s time to do a factory reset of the phone (AGAIN, just did that a few weeks ago) since not only does it think there are four missing SD cards, under Files the phone claims there’s no internal memory either.
Spend a few hours fixing the sounds and settings and logins, and a visit to the store for a namebrand SD card Just In Case that has something to do with the matter. (Motorola, I know you like programming phones to wonk out after two years so you can sell more phones, but I’m sick of your shit.)
While the morning started cool, by noon it was beastly hot.
Did laundry, which would be more of a win if I had the energy to put it away.
