i think for a lot of people shipping is just a way to squeeze out more entertainment from a character, but it often comes at a cost of ignoring the platonic relationships that character has. and to swing this back to ada and leon... the platonic relationship canon has provided is actually so fascinating and there is just so much to think about, but everyone wants to enjoy their strange and complex yet also very simple relationship in favor of smashing them together like barbies with complete disregard for their actual feelings for one another.
like... do they have to be involved romantically for their interactions to matter? like... let's take a minute to admire the characters and their interactions for what they are before we start adding and subtracting random things to make their ship work

The loud music and thumping of the walls were the last thing on Leon’s mind as he scanned every single room of the house. Chris decided to throw a housewarming party for Claire at her new place, and of course Leon was invited.
Leon refused the initial invitation, but quickly changed his mind when Chris told him that you would be there. It seemed as though the brunet had long since grown sick of his friend’s moping and knew he had to do something about it.
Pretty much everyone that Leon knew was here, yet he couldn’t seem to find you. The house wasn’t big, and it didn’t have very many rooms, but it seemed like it was still impossible to locate you. Not that he even had a right to.
If he does manage to find you, what would he even say? “I’m sorry for everything, and for letting you leave without trying to fight for you. Also, I don’t blame you for ignoring my calls and not texting me back, I deserve that.”
He couldn’t remember the last time he sounded that desperate. Back when he was a dumb twenty one year old, he supposed.
Leon has been here for over an hour now, and he still hasn’t seen you once. He was beginning to think that Chris lied to him just to get him out of the house he used to share with you. While he wouldn’t put it past him, Leon wanted to give Chris the benefit of the doubt and believe that he had good intentions when he invited him to this thing.
Nearly giving up on his search, Leon heads back to the kitchen, where Jill hands him a bottle of beer. She leans against the counter and he does the same, his eyes still expertly scanning the room, just in case.  “Hey, Kennedy,” she greets as she sips on her own beer. “Haven’t seen you in a while. Been busy with work?”
Leon shrugs, his face almost emotionless. “Yeah,” he lied. Of course he had been going to work and successfully completing missions, but he hadn’t left the house outside of that. Work usually took up a good portion of his time, and the rest of it was spent thinking about how badly he fucked things up with you.
It wasn’t even worth it. Ada.
He hadn’t seen her since he broke off their little agreement a month before he confessed to you, despite her texting him and asking to meet up so he can fuck her in exchange for information he thought was worth more than you.
It really wasn’t.
He’s been ignoring her texts for months now, just like how you’ve been ignoring his.
Leon had never blocked someone’s number ever in his life, but Ada was about to be the first if she didn’t take the hint and leave him the fuck alone.
As much as he wanted to put all the blame on her, he knew it was half his own fault, as well. He couldn’t believe he had gone back to Ada Wong when he had you, his entire world, waiting for him at home.
He knew he would never forgive himself, even if you somehow managed to move on and forgive him for the worst mistake he had ever made in his twenty nine years of living.
Four months.
It’s been four months and he was still beating himself up for what he did to you.
“Yeah, Chris and I are looking into this new virus that is spreading down in Oxford. The cases have been going up daily, might be something you can help out with,” she offered, leaning closer to him so he could hear her better over the loud music. “You’re more experienced with viruses than anyone else I know.”
Leon gave her a tight lipped smile. “Sure, Jill,” he replied. “Whatever you need.”
“Great,” she says as she finishes off her beer. “You staying long? I never took you as the party type.”
He really wasn’t. He hadn’t been to a party since he was nineteen. Even the frat parties he was invited to were boring, so he never had the urge to go to anymore after the age of twenty. Until now, because he was told that you would be here.
And he wanted to see you so badly.
“I’m not, really,” he agreed and brought the bottle up to his mouth. “I just thought someone I know would be here-”
He wasn’t able to take a sip of the alcohol before his eyes landed on you as soon as you entered the room.
All words had died on his tongue and the bottle was raised half way before his hand froze.
You looked beautiful. Your cute white dress fit you well and showed off the concerning amount of weight you had lost. He hadn’t seen you that small since the beginning of your relationship, back when you didn’t know how to take care of yourself and listen to your body’s warnings.
Leon felt his heart constrict at the thought of you going back to your old ways of ignoring the signs your body tried giving you. You were barely getting by when he met you, and you hadn’t gone completely back to that since leaving him, if your makeup and pretty hair were anything to go by.
You hadn’t given up on yourself entirely, and that gave him enough hope that you would be okay. Even if he was given the chance to talk to you and explain things, he knew you weren’t completely broken like you were when you first started dating, and that you would be fine if you decided to never forgive him.
Looking as shy as ever, you inch further into the room, seeming to have not noticed Leon yet as you ventured over to the bottles of booze that had been set out on the counter. “Oh, shit, is that Y/n?” Jill asked as she squinted in your direction. “I didn’t know she was coming, but that pretty much explains why you’re here. Are you okay?”
Leon watched as you browsed through the drink options, dropping his arm back to his side and not caring about the beer that splashed onto his hand at the quick movement. He didn’t take his eyes off you as he slowly shook his head, a quiet “No,” leaving his mouth afterwards.
Jill looked between the two of you, unsure of what to say. “Do you want to move to another room?”
Leon shook his head again. “No. You said it yourself, Jill. This is why I’m here,” he muttered and watched as a younger guy moved to stand next to you. He helped you pour a large amount of vodka mixed with ginger ale into a cup, and he quickly recognized the guy as one of the new agents Claire had befriended named Kegan.
Kegan stepped closer to you and Leon could instantly tell that you were uncomfortable. He knew you like the back of his hand and could tell when you got nervous or anxious, like how you are right now.
Leon stood up straight and placed the untouched bottle of beer behind him on the counter before making his way across the kitchen.
Within four strides he is behind you and towering over Kegan, who noticed Leon long before you did. “Kennedy? Leon Kennedy is actually at a party? Wow, never thought I’d see the day,”
Leon glared at him and it was then when you realized who was standing behind you. “You don’t know me,” Leon stated as you turned to face him, but he just kept his eyes on Kegan. Leon had quite the reputation at work, and he was well known as the guy who is more than capable of completing any mission, no matter how tough it may be.
That being said, his superiority often annoyed the new guys as they tried to live up to the high expectations and standards of Leon Kennedy.
“And you don’t know her, but I do, and I know she wants you to leave her alone but is far too nice to actually say that to you, so I’ll do it for her,” Leon continued and felt his heart skip a beat at the quiet gasp that left your lips.
Kegan looked between you and Leon, and more specifically the protective look in his eyes, before backing away with his hands up. “My bad, man,” he shrugged. “Didn’t realize she was with you.”
He disappeared in the crowd as you turned completely to face your ex. “You didn’t need to do that,” you muttered and Leon could feel his face heat up at the fact that you were actually talking to him. You wore an annoyed look, but still, you’re talking to him. “I could’ve done that myself.”
Leon forced a grin to form on his lips. “But I bet you’re glad I did it, instead,” when you just shook your head and began to leave the kitchen, Leon stepped in front of you, refraining from grabbing your hand like he so desperately wanted to. “Wait, please.”
“What, Leon?” You asked and you sounded so exhausted, it made his heart physically break a bit. “What could you possibly have to say to me right now?”
“Everything,” he answered instantly. “I want to say everything I didn’t say the day you left. Please, give me a chance.”
You narrow your eyes and cross your arms. “It’s been months, Leon,”
“Four,” he confirmed, watching the brief shock that flashed across your face. “And I’ve thought about you everyday for every one.”
You give him a conflicted look that is quickly followed by a sigh. “There is nothing you can say that will fix what happened, just so you know,”
Leon nodded and held his hand out to you, surprise filling him when you actually took it. “I just need you to know that it wasn’t your fault, and that it’s all on me,” he promised as he led you towards the front door, missing Chris’ look of relief as he passed him.
While he didn’t know the full story of what his friend did to you, he knew Ada had been involved in the reason you were no longer together. Chris was never a fan of Ada and how she treated Leon whenever the two crossed paths, and he was sure the blond felt the same way after being her little pet for years. He was sure the two of you would end up getting married, so he could not fathom how the fuck Leon had let Ada get in the way of what you and he had.
All in all, he was sick of Leon’s bad moods, and wanted his friend to go back to normal. Well, as normal as Leon Kennedy could be.
Leon led you out onto the front porch, and with one look from him, the two guys who were standing out there quickly scampered back into the house. Once you were alone, he turned back to face you with guilty eyes, his mouth opening and closing as he tried to figure out what to say to you.
He had wanted the chance to talk to you again for months, and now that you are actually here in front of him he was blanking.
But he wouldn’t let his inability to form a proper sentence be what cost him his once chance at explaining to you why he did what he did.
An apology would be a good place to start, right?
“I’m sorry,” he said quietly as he finally allowed himself to look into your guarded eyes. You looked at him as if he were a stranger, and he supposed he kind of is now. The person you both thought he was would’ve never done what he did to you, no matter how important those fucking files were. “I’m a fucking idiot.”
You nod and lean back against the railing, crossing your arms as you stare at him with a soft glare. “I’m really glad we agree on that,”
He knew he deserved that. He deserved worse, actually, but you were simply too kind to completely go off on him, and he simply never deserved you in the first place. “That’s fair, you’re being hostile,” he mumbled and felt his skin begin to heat up under his dark leather jacket. “I know I have no right to even be talking to you right now, but I just need you to know that what I did with Ada was the worst thing I have ever done, and I’ve done a lot of bad shit in my life. None of them cost me you, though, so they’re not very high on that list.”
You tense up at the name you’ve hated since the second you heard it, and the mention of her sent your insecurities right back to the front of your mind. “Yeah, well,” you trail off, kicking a stone that was on the porch away from you as you avoid his stare. “I hope she was worth it, because I haven’t been able to wrap my head around the fact that Ada fucking Wong is the reason the best relationship I had ever been in ended.”
“She wasn’t worth it,” he said instantly, taking a cautious step towards you. “She was never worth it, even back when I was a stupid twenty one year old and trying to start my career. She never cared, and I wasn’t smart enough to see that. I’m not smart at all. If I had half a brain I would’ve never gone back to her ever again.”
You shake your head. “You can say that now, but it doesn’t change anything,” you mumbled. “You cheated on me with the one person I’ve been worried about since day one. You promised me that she was in your past, and that you were over her. I can’t believe I was stupid enough to believe that. Guess we’re both fucking dumb.”
“No,” he said sternly. “You’re the smartest person I’ve ever met. Ada hasn’t had control over my heart for a long time now, it’s always been you. I haven’t stopped thinking about you since the day we met, and that was years ago. I know I fucked up, but I’ve never stopped believing that you’re it for me. I don’t want anyone else, and that was clear after I met you.”
Your lip was quivering just slightly and you blinked back tears, trying to stick to your promise of never crying over the man in front of you ever again. You weren’t sure how much longer you could keep that promise if you were to continue to talk to him. “Then why did you do it? Why did you ruin what we had?” You regretfully ask and quickly add, “And I want the truth, not some bullshit story you always seem to come up with. Be honest with me, Leon.”
Leon really felt pathetic at this point as he felt his heart jump a bit at the fact that you said his name. He missed you so much, he missed hearing your voice, and he missed the way his name sounded when it came out of your mouth.
He knew his answer wouldn’t satisfy you at all, but he said it anyway, “It was just about work,”
“Oh, don’t give me that,” you say angrily, wiping under your eyes before he could see your tears. “Don’t waste anymore of my time, Leon. I refuse to spend another second with you if you’re just going to lie to me. You’ve done that enough.”
Leon shut up after that, shifting from one foot to the other and beginning to feel anxious. He shouldn’t feel this way around you. He had known you for four years and been with you for three, he should feel comfortable around you, but he supposed he lost that right, too.
At his lack of words, you turn away and are about to head back inside when he grabs your wrist and pulls you away from the door. “Y/n, wait,” he begs, blue eyes clouding over with desperation as he stares hopelessly down at you. “I can’t tell you how sorry I am. There are no words that could ever describe it. I hate that I hurt you and I hate that I fucked up the best thing I had going for me. You’re the best thing that has ever happened to me.”
You fell silent as your eyes flickered from his lips then back to his eyes.
What if….for just one more night…what if.
“I should’ve never let you walk out that day without explaining to you that it was all my fault, just like how I should’ve never let Ada come anywhere near me. But I’m weak,” he was saying all the words he should have said to you the day he confessed that he had been seeing Ada. God, even her name made a feeling of disgust creep into his bones. “I’ve always been weak when it comes to you and my job and everything. I’m not cut out for this kind of thing, but you made me feel like I was. I can’t believe I took that for granted.”
Your eyes burned once again and you moved to lean back against the railing when he inched closer.
“You’re everything to me, sweetheart,” he sounded so genuine, you almost thought you could believe him. He placed his hands on the railing behind you and leaned down so his face was close to yours. “You always will be. She is, by far, the biggest mistake of my life and I promise that I haven’t seen her since. I can’t stand even thinking about her-”
He wasn’t able to finish that sentence as you leaned in and pressed your mouth to his.
Just one more night.
You just needed one more night with him, one where you could pretend you were still happy and still in love. One where you were still oblivious to the affair he was having with his ex…or whatever the fuck they were.
Just one more night to fuck him out of your system, then you’ll never have to see him again after this.
Leon got lost in the feeling of having your lips on his for the first time in months. His hands immediately grip your waist and his body presses right up against your own.
He missed you more than anything else in the entire world. Every single inch of you, he craved it everyday. He was so fucking angry with himself for how he destroyed your relationship and for how he hurt you after he swore he wouldn’t. After he swore he was different.
Really, he wasn’t far off from the assholes you had given your heart to in the past, even though he tried so hard to be.
His fingers bunch up the fabric of your dress and he wanted to take you right there, right against the railing of his friend’s new porch, but you deserved more than that. He wanted to give you more than that.
Your hands slide up to tangle in his hair and he never thought he’d ever get to feel your soft yet firm touch again. He couldn’t help but melt into it.
Your lower back pressed against the cool metal and the contrast of it had you gasping against his mouth.
Leon groaned at your quiet sound of pleasure and couldn’t deny how it went straight to his dick. Sometimes he really hated being a man who had no control over that part of his body. “Missed that sound,” he mumbled against your mouth. “Missed everything about you, pretty girl.”
You moan into his mouth and he swallows it like the greedy man he is. “Take me home, Leon,”
It was like a switch had been flipped. He pulled away but kept his hands on your hips. Now that he had gotten a taste of you again, he never wanted to let you go. But he needed to focus on why he sought you out tonight. “I don’t think that’s a good idea,” he trails off, noting the brief look of embarrassment that flashed in your eyes. “I don’t want you to think that this is all I wanted out of-”
“I want it, Leon,” you cut him off, pulling him closer by his jacket. “I want you. I know you don’t want me anymore, but-”
He shook his head and pressed another kiss to your lips, against his better judgment. “I do still want you, baby,” he promised. “I want you, always.”
You bite down on your lip and don’t miss the way his eyes flicker downwards when you do so. “Then take me home,” you pressed, watching as he seems to have an inner battle with himself.
You weren’t sure what result you wanted out of this; him agreeing and getting you off one last time, or him rejecting you of what he so gladly took from Ada.
Either way would provide you with some closure, you’d hope.
A few more seconds pass before he’s moving away and taking your hand. He leads you to his car and drives the familiar road to the house you lived in with him not too long ago.
As he guided you through the very door you walked out of the day he told you what he did, he gave you a conflicted look as he said, “Just so you know, this isn’t all I want from you. I meant everything I said before,”
You give him a blank look as you move closer to him. “I don’t care,”
Leon looked like he was in agony as you grabbed his jacket and pulled it from his body. “Don’t say that,” he begged. “Please.”
You don’t say anything else as you pull on his hands and walk backwards until your knees hit the edge of the couch. Sitting on the armrest, you run your fingers down his toned chest and try to remember that this will be a one time thing. He wasn’t yours and this wouldn’t be like all the other times you and he had been intimate.
“I don’t want to talk anymore,” you whisper, grabbing his wrist and guiding his hand to your chest. “So please, don’t say anything else.”
Leon could only nod, regret filling him at what he knew he made run through your head. You thought this was all he wanted, when in reality he just wanted you back.
He leaned down and gently grabbed either side of your face as he kissed you deeply, pushing you back against the very couch you broke up with him on four fucking months ago.
It was too much, but he couldn’t stop. He was too afraid you’d leave him forever if he did. He really was fucking weak when it came to you. He was selfish.
He wanted you back so badly, his brain couldn’t keep up with his body. His lips were placing kisses desperately to your mouth as he felt your legs wrap around his waist.
Leon wasn’t sure if he would ever be able to function again if you were to never talk to him after this. He didn’t even want to think about it.
But it seemed as if you were doing the opposite.
He kissed along your neck for a few seconds before hearing a sharp intake from you that was followed by the push of your hands against his shoulders. “Wait,” you nearly gasp, sitting up when he instantly pulls away from you, proving to you that he is at least a little better than your past boyfriends. They would have ignored you and continued touching you until they got what they wanted.
Leon stood back and put a bit of distance between the two of you, his eyes guilty and his heart on his sleeve. “I’m sorry,” he says and you just shake your head, straightening your dress back out.
“No, I initiated this. I’m sorry, I don’t know what got into me,” you apologize and stand up. “I should go. This was a mistake.”
Leon felt his heart break as you quickly stood up and made your way to the door. He got flashbacks to the day you left him, and he knew he wasn’t prepared to see you walk out that door for the second time.
Maybe he didn’t have to.
You passed by the counter and abruptly stopped, your eyes fixated on something on the granite. Leon held his breath as he watched you move towards the island, your hand reaching out to grab his keys. “Leon,” you gasped quietly, your fingers gently moving something on the chain. He knew what was on it. The ring haunted him every time he used his keys, and that was the exact reason why he attached it to the chain in the first place.
He stayed still when you turned to look back at him, his keys held tightly in your hand.
“You kept it?” You asked in a hoarse voice. You would recognize that ring anywhere, even after only seeing it one time. You couldn’t believe he kept it instead of selling it, and you were heartbroken to discover that he saw it every day whenever he entered or left his house.
Your question offended him, but he’d never show it. “Of course I kept it,” and yet another flashback flickered in his head.
You weren’t sure you wanted the answer, but you asked, anyway, “Why?”
Leon hardly moved as he answered, “As a reminder,”
And it was the truth.
And then you broke your promise as the first of many tears began to fall.
You wished you never met him. Never said yes when he asked you out on a date, said no when he asked you to move in. You wished you didn’t agree to come to that stupid housewarming party, because now you felt lost all over again.
Setting the keys loudly on the counter, you turn to face him fully. “Why?” You asked, your voice angry and shaky as you tried to keep your cool. “Why did you do it? I loved you more than anything else. You saved my life, Leon. Why didn’t that mean anything to you?”
Leon felt his own eyes burn as he stepped away from the couch but made no move to walk over to you. “It means the world to me, Y/n,” he promised, his heart begging his body to take you into his arms, but he held back. “So do you.”
Your lower lip trembled as you moved to stand in front of him. “Why?” You ask again, much quieter this time around. You reach up and push on his chest just slightly, knowing damn well it wouldn’t faze him one bit. And it didn’t. “Why did you go to her?”
Leon refrained from taking your hands that were still on his chest in his. “Because she had something I needed,” he regretfully answered.
Your brows furrow and he knew he accidentally offended you with his poor choice of words. “What, I wasn’t good enough? Didn’t put out enough for you?”
“No,” he said immediately, going against his better judgment again and wrapping his fingers around your wrists. “You’re more than enough for me. You always have been and you will be forever. The thought of doing that with her made me sick and I hate myself for it, but it was the only way she would give me the information I needed for my job.”
Your eyes softened a bit but your whole body was still guarded. “Your job you can’t tell me anything about?”
“Yes,” he whispered, his face twisting up in agony when more tears fell from your eyes. “That’s the only reason I went to her. She had something I needed, but if I ever had to do it all over again, I’d tell her to fuck off and I’d get it some other way. I can’t stand the fact that I hurt you like that.”
You tried to process his words, but you didn’t know what to think anymore.
You believed him, and it was clear he felt awful about all that came out of his encounters with Ada. But you also weren’t sure what he wanted out of this encounter with you. Yeah, it appeared he wanted to fix things, but who’s to say he won’t shatter your heart again?
You couldn’t take much more. You knew that.
“It was just for work?” You asked quietly, avoiding his eyes as he pressed your hand flat against his chest. “You’re not in love with her?”
“No,” he said quickly, shaking his head to further get the point across. “No. I don’t love her, not anymore. Maybe I never did. She never made me feel the things you did and still do. My heart was never hers. It’s yours. Even after tonight, I’ll still be yours, even if you aren’t mine.”
Your eyes were begging for a break, but the tears kept coming. “My heart is yours, Leon. It’s yours to break,” you whisper. “And you did.”
He couldn’t stop himself from taking you into his arms. He wrapped you up and let out a sigh of relief when you let him, and even held onto his waist. “I’m so fucking sorry,” he says, kissing the side of your head. “So fucking sorry. I swear, I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. I’d use my last breath for you, baby. You’re my entire world. You’re everything.”
“Leon,” you beg, bunching his shirt up in your fists. “Don’t do this to me again. Don’t hurt me again, I-....I can’t take it.”
“I won’t,” he promised, cradling the back of your head in his hand as if you were the most frail and fragile thing in the world. “I love you so much. It’s you who I want for the rest of my life. I never doubted that. I never want you to doubt that.”
You nod and press your head to his chest. “It’s going to take some time,” you begin, your voice barely above a whisper. “Maybe a lot of time-”
“I’ll wait forever for you,” he swore, leaning back and pressing a kiss to your forehead. He was shaking now, disbelief filling his entire being at the fact that you were letting him hold you like this again.
You look over at his keys before meeting his eyes again. “I won’t forget about what you did, Leon,” you murmur, watching the guilt seep back into his blue orbs. “But I’m willing to forgive….I just need time.”
Leon nodded, wrapping you back up in his arms. “I’ll give you all the time you need, I promise,” he rasps. “Just don’t leave me again.”
He had no right asking you that, but he also had no control over his words at this point.
But you just pressed your lips to the side of his neck. “Don’t give me another reason to,”

Going to ramble about RE2R Ada again because she is just so genuinely fascinating to me. It's so very interesting that Ada goes back on her initial decision to have Leon help her out and tells him to get out one last time, when he finds her injured in the sewers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She does this after going all in on her lie, mind you. Their relationship is legitimately so fun to pick apart, and the way Ada keeps bouncing back and forth between taking advantage of Leon's drive to help and urging him to prioritize himself is interesting to think about.
So many talk of their interactions in RE2R as solely Ada maliciously manipulating him, when in text it's... honestly not at all like that? At least not as surface-level.
Up until their encounter with Kendo, she constantly tells him to get out and refuses to engage with him. It is only when he basically offers himself to her on a silver platter does she makes the choice to actually use him to her advantage. Which does not make any of her future lies or actions okay in any way, obviously, but it is interesting how she never once pushes him into following her up until that very moment.
She's dismissive and irritated with him if anything, no signs of purposefully manipulating in sight. She doesn't have to save his life, either. And yet, she does. Two times in a row, in fact.
Even after going all in and using Leon's determination to save the city against him as the conclusion to the Kendo scene, she constantly reminds Leon: 'Are you up for this? It's not late to turn back.' It's interesting to me how she keeps empathizing it over and over to him, almost annoyingly so. That's not necessarily her manipulating him with pure malicious intent, is it?
And then there's the sewers scene. The dialogue is so fascinating here, because it honestly feels like the most genuine Ada has been through the entirety of the game. She tells him to get out. One last time. She doesn't even have a good justification for doing that, besides a weak: 'you don't understand. The situation's worse than I thought.' It honestly feels like her jumping to the first excuse she can think of, because what does that even mean exactly? Compared to how measured and convincing she sounded before every time Leon questioned her, it's a massive difference, to say the least.
But Leon comes through again. Showing genuine kindness and determination to stick by her no matter what. In other words, she's in too deep now. Not like she can just spill the beans right then and there and tell him that, no, she actually never intended to save anyone at all. So, she can only go through with the lie.
It's honestly very bittersweet, because, at this point, she's way in over her head, and probably fully realizes that. Leon was nothing but an annoying and naive rookie cop to her before, but now she sees him as he is. A genuinely good person that doesn't deserve to be involved in any of this, or to be taken advantage of. Especially so after him literally taking a bullet for her earlier.
It honestly contrasts the aforementioned Kendo scene pretty neatly, too. Back then, Ada probably just viewed his compassion and drive to help as foolishness, hence her deciding to make use of that in the moment. But in the sewers, she seems genuinely moved by those same exact qualities of his. It's so interesting how her perception of him flips like that. All by Leon being himself. Which, in hindsight, is actually very sad. Because from Leon's perspective, those same qualities he showed her are what made hum fail to save anyone in the end.
Out of everything Ada does, her biggest point of genuine manipulation with malicious intent happens in the cable car. Before and after that, she either dismisses Leon outright, or tries to stir him away from the situation instead. I'd love to pick apart the whole cable car sequence in itself one day because it's deserving of its own post, so I won't go Amy further into it here.
It's honestly a bit upsetting how little nuance their relationship in RE2R is often given. It is largely viewed as 'Ada manipulating and using stupid Leon' game. When it's honestly so much more nuanced than that. And I think this complexity feeds right into Leon's petty grudge against her in RE4R. He wouldn't be nearly as petty with her if it was all just a cold ploy from her. That's what makes it so very hurtful and frustrating to him in the first place. Ada giving major mixed signals. And she continues that same trend in RE4R. Helping him and seemingly showing more care than necessary, but simultaneously refusing to be open and truthful and sometimes straight up taking advantage of him without him knowing.
Remake-verse Ada continuesly struggles with picking a side and sticking to it, something her OG self doesn't display nearly as much, and that's an aspect of her character I very much appreciate.
These two are so very complicated, and I love it.

Leon entered the large room with a deep sigh. He doesn't want to be here. What's the point? To earn some good agent points from President Graham? He doesn't care what he thinks of him, he simply works for him. Leon doesn't want to be in a totally crowded place. He can hardly see what's in front of him with all of the people in the way, dancing, eating or conversing with others.
He has to do this though and he knows that.
Convoying further into the elegant estate, Leon was offered a glass of champagne. "Thanks." He gave a nod to the waiter. They even have fancy waters. The stereotypical type with the rag over their arm and the platter of drinks. Leon scoffed and sipped the light tint of yellow drink. It was good, he can't lie. Leon is only here to meet with some other agents and higher ups. Hopefully they're not the talkative types. He just wants to say hi and get out of here.
Leon is wearing a typical suit. He didn't even pick it out, it was decided by Graham (What he'd wear). Leon hates dressing up for formal events such as this. He doesn't want to look like a total fool. Then again, he's so out of place at parties like these, he probably looks silly the moment he walks through the front door. Leon sighed to himself, shooting the rest of the champagne down his gullet and setting the clear glass onto the bar beside where he was standing.
The music is not Leon's forte either. It's very classical; Leon likes metal and rock. He really can't vibe with a song unless it resonates with him and this blues shit, no, it does not make the cut. It's bad. Leon took a seat on the barstool and looked around the area. He scanned it, analyzed it. Yeah, there's a load of people here, none of which Leon knows or has even been aquatinted with. Leon would much rather be at home right now.
Glaring down at his watch, he checked the time. It's almost six, he wants to be gone by seven. Hopefully he is able to meet at least one person before he has to go or he can paint this 'mission' as failed. He stood up and grunted, turning around and looking at his glass. "Not my problem." He whispered beneath his breath. He left the glass there as he began to amble through the crowd, hoping to find someone with a name tag as him.
That is how he'll know if someone is in the same department as him-color coded name tags. It's rather childish but it gets the job done.
Traversing through the crowd, Leon didn't see any name tags that matched his. Everyone smells of strong perfume/cologne and alcohol. He isn't surprised. At this type of events, people take it as free range to get absolutely hammered.
As he continued to travel to the side, he suddenly heard someone call his name. "Leon! Leon, over here!" He turned around and sighed deeply. Patrick. Fucking Patrick. Whatever, it's better than no one. Leon walked over to him and gave him a fake smile. "Hey Pat." "What's up Leon? I didn't even think I'd see you here tonight." "I wish I wasn't here, but it is required." Leon stated to him. Patrick snickered and nodded. "You are funny."
Leon just raised his eyebrow and looked around. "What are you doing?" "Nothing much. I did just dance with a lady, so that was fun. Anywho, wanna meet some guys? This can go down on your record." Leon nodded, "Yeah, please. Bring me to them." Finally, Leon will be able to leave sooner than he thought he would. Patrick smiled and patted Leon on the upper arm. "I knew you'd want to. Follow me."
He began to be led by Patrick to the other side of the room. There were three men standing around a table. They had drinks and a board of food. "So these are the higher ups then?" "Yes, they are. Be cool!" Patrick said in a loud whisper. Leon scoffed. Who is Patrick to tell him how to act? He isn't an idiot. Patrick paused in front of the table, Leon did too. "Gentlemen, this is the Leon S Kennedy."
Leon waved and nodded. "Hello gentlemen." He said in a friendly manner. The men all stood up with a smile. "Good evening, Mr. Kennedy," One of the men spoke up, "I am Mr. Carter Hawkins. This is Mr. Collins Richards and Mr. Pete Fisher." Leon shook all of their hands and nodded. "It's a pleasure to meet you all." It really isn't. Leon hates this all facade. He feels like a prick when doing this stuff because he doesn't actually care.
In the business world, you are for yourself and for yourself only. As for Leon, he's for the people. These men though? They're in it for the money and fame. There's always a dark side to each organization and these men are a part of it. It's sad. Working for the President, Leon didn't realize how shitty it would turn out to be. He supposes that's the price he has to pay. He didn't choose to work willingly under Graham, he was forced. He has to deal.
It's all just superficial. Leon thought that his line of work would be for honesty and truth, but of course it isn't.
As they were talking amongst themselves, Leon couldn't help but feel as if there were a pair of eyes on him. He gandered around the room, but nothing. It made him feel nervous. Who could be here eyeing him down. Leon leaned in closer to Patrick and murmured something to him. "Have you seen anyone that seems suspicious by chance?" "No." Patrick whispered back and looked around. "Why?" "Doesn't matter." Then Leon went back to speaking with Mr. Richards.
Within just a few minutes, Leon decided to turn around and that's when he saw her. It was Ada. He knew something was up. He recognized her immediately. It's only been a few months since he last saw her in Spain. After that, they hadn't spoken at all. Leon even figured he'd never see her again. He was wrong. He also often times has a feeling he'll see her every time he's out on a mission. He can't deny the fact he does look for her on those days.
Ada glanced at Leon and nudged her head before she then entered through a door.
"Gentlemen, excuse me, I have some business to attend." Leon nodded. The men said their goodbyes and Leon made way to said room. Did she even notice him? Was she nudging to someone else? He doesn't care. What in God's name is Ada Wong doing here?
Once Leon got closer to the door, his hands began to shake. He's anxious. Gaining the courage to just open the damn door, he did. When he entered, he saw Ada right before him. Yeah, that's her. He could recognize her anywhere. She's been on his mind ever since the incident in Spain so of course she just had to show up here of all places.
"Leon." Ada said softly. "I didn't think you'd be here." "I'm sure." Leon didn't buy that one bit. She chuckled and walked over to him. "Why are you here, Ada?" "Business, you know I don't work and tell." Those are the exact words she used on him back in Spain. Leon scoffed. "This is where I work, you can't just show up and-" "Leon, stop talking. I'm not here to do anything bad, I am simply here to meet someone." "Who?" "It doesn't matter."
So many thoughts are racing through his head. In a way, it's so upsetting to see her. He doesn't want to deal with any of her antics. At the same time however, he's glad. She's been on his mind. Ada is a part of Leon that he knows he'll never fully be able to let go. Leon loves her, he's never even tried to deny that. He doubts she feels the same all things considered. He's tried to get over her, but he never can.
Ada is sly and sleuth. She's always reminded Leon of a black cat on the prowl. She's seductive too, that's clear. Ever since that dreadful night back in Raccoon City, Ada has had him wrapped around her little finger. She uses him at her own discretion-at least that's what Leon is told. He knows Ada better than that. There's no way she doesn't feel something for him. She has to.
Leon sighed deeply. "Ada, if you're here to cause any mischief, just tell me so I can leave." Ada rolled her eyes and placed her hands onto his chest. "Leon," she hummed, "you don't trust me one bit, do you?" Ada questioned him. Leon breathed in a sharp breath as her finger tips trailed down his body and right above his waistband. What is she up to? "How can I when all you ever do is deceive me?"
She smirked and pulled away from him. "My apologies but you do remember that you're the one who clung to me back in R.C, correct? I tried to leave you be, you kept coming back to me like a lost puppy." She isn't wrong. It's only because Leon wanted answers and felt it was safer to stick beside someone. It's not like he knew who Ada was or what she was doing. Leon stepped back and hit his back on the door. "Just do whatever you plan to do." Was all he said before he went to leave the room.
Before he could, Ada grasped his wrist and shook her head. "Leaving so soon?" "What do you want?" Leon asked in a low voice. He's actually curious at this point. What's her deal? Ada's eyes went really soft as she looked up at him. That's exactly what captures him. That's why he kissed her back in Raccoon City, that's why he saved her back in Spain... It's the way she gets. She's manipulative and Leon's aware of that-but she just weaves him in her web.
"I think you should stay with me for a little bit..." Her hands then went to his belt and he went to back away, but once again hit the door. "Do you not want me to?" Ada instantly let go. Admittedly, she's also missed Leon and she's in desperate need for him. It's not as if she enjoys hurting Leon like this-of course not-but work first, hooking up later. For now though, the roles can be reversed.
Leon suddenly grabbed her face and began kissing her. He felt Ada smile against his lips. His hands went to her waist whereas hers remained on his chest. "I've missed you." Leon admitted. He felt pathetic after saying it. "Oh Leon..." Ada whispered against his lips, kissing him passionately. She missed him too, even if she's not ready to admit it. Their kissing was powerful. It was as if the world was going to end and this was their final goodbye.
Of course, neither of them truly know when the last time they see one another will be.
Pushing her up against a table, Leon chuckled. Ada was between him and the white, sturdy table. They both could tell where this was going. Ada pulled away from the kiss and began to work on taking his belt off. "How much time do you have?" "As long as you need me for." Leon said quietly. He feels pathetic, once again. Ada truly has him pinched between her fingers. Leon doesn't even care at this point. Ada will always be Ada.
Removing his belt, Ada set it on the table before lifting herself onto the table. Leon let out a huff as he watched her do that. She's ready for him, she wants him. This just makes the experience to come a billion times more lovely. Leon pulled his dress pants all the way down along with his boxers. Adas eyes went to his member and she smiled before making eye contact with him. "Come here." She pulled on his blazer. Leon snickered and cupped her cheek firmly, kissing her once again.
Her lips were so soft against his. Leon never wants this moment to end. Kissing Ada only reminds him of when they met. God, she's perfect. Leon can't not give in to her. "Fuck I've wanted this for so long." Leon grunted. Ada tittered and nodded. "Me too." She then lifted her waist up to pull her dress up, revealing her lacy panties. Leon nearly lost his breath. What a sight to see.
"I want to taste you." Leon wasn't lying. He's fantasized about this. Ada is gorgeous, she's beautiful, he wants her badly. "Oh? You do?" Ada bit her lip and started to pull her panties down. She did it so painfully slowly, it made Leon whine out in annoyance. Once they hit her ankles, Leon pulled them off and set them to the side. They were a bit wet and that made him even harder. Now they're both naked from the waist down.
Leon grabbed Ada's legs and set them up on the table. Her knees were bent upwards, her pussy directly in front of him. Her legs being spread was insanely sexy to Leon. He leaned down and wrapped his arms around her thighs. They were pale and soft, Leon couldn't stop caressing them. He started to leave kisses from he knees and down to her very inner thighs. Occasionally he'd get a glimpse of her sopping cunt and all it did was enhance his horniness.
Eventually, Leon moved his lips from her thighs to her folds. He kissed both before finally swiping his tongue through them. His tongue licked up all of her wetness. It was so much. He groaned, the taste was a delicacy. "Mmm yes." Ada moaned, her fingers gripped the end of the table she's resting on. Leon's tongue repeatedly slicked up and down through her folds. She tastes amazing. Leon can't believe this is his first time ever being with her like this and that it happened so suddenly.
Leon couldn't stop. He doesn't want to. His lips and tongue suckled on her nub. Ada's little moans and whimpers made Leon start to precum. He's down for her, down badly. He just wants to fuck her. "You taste so good." Leon whispered to her. Ada sighed softly and grasped onto his dirty blonde hair. Her slim fingers ran through it and tugged on it. "Faster." She didn't have to tell him twice. The speed of his slick tongue picked up.
Ada set her legs up onto his shoulders, enabling him to have a different angle. Leon took this opportunity and immediately gripped onto her thighs as he began to feast upon her like a mad man. Ada's legs started to shake and her insides began to twist. She knew she was close. She could tell. "I'm so close." Ada said softly to Leon. Leon chuckled deeply against her pussy before beginning to continuously swirl his tongue on her clit.
This was her undoing. Just a few more twirls of his tongue and Ada was done for. She shook slightly as she came on his face. Leon breathed in deeply as he licked her once more before pulling away. He is respectful. He's willing to give her some time to recoup herself. Ada panted and started to sit back up. Leon wiped the area near his lips and huffed out a breath.
"That was great." Ada spoke, pulling Leon back close to her. "Let's make this quick." She giggled as she spread her legs again. Leon snickered and nodded. "Where are you going after this?" "To finish business. Why?" Leon sighed deeply. "So that's it? We just have sex and you leave?" "Leon," Ada sat up and started to kiss the area on his upper chest. "Don't be upset with me." Ada then kissed his cheek. "Just fuck me." She whispered, leaning back again.
Leon scoffed. "That's exactly what I'm going to do." Leon sighed, pumping himself a few times. There is precum on his tip-Ada makes him feel ways he knows he could never feel with anyone else. Ada wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him closer into her. "Don't hold back. Who knows when you'll see me again." She said seductively. Leon grinned and slowly entered her, allowing her to adjust around him. He can admit, he's big.
Her hands were resting on either side of the table and her legs were encased around his midriff. "You're tight." Leon chuckled, kissing her knee before beginning to move. Ada bit her lip and nodded. She's aware. She knows she feels good. Ada is rather confident and knowing of how great she is, in bed and out. "Fuck." Leon grunted, moving back and fourth into her slowly. He was hitting so deep inside of her, he knows he's hitting her sweet spot.
Ada moaned softly and tossed her head back. "Leon..." She whimpered, holding onto his wrist which his hands were on her fit thighs. "Leon." She stated. "Hmm?" "Didn't I say don't hold back?" Ada giggled, tilting her head to gaze at him. "I was just trying to give you time to-" "Don't hold back." She interrupted him. Leon then began to thrust into her at a fast & hard rate. Ada nodded and tossed her head back once again. She isn't surprised that he is able to fuck her senselessly.
"Come here." Leon groaned out breathlessly. He pressed his lips against her roughly. Their making out was erotic and sloppy-but so meaningful. This is the last thing Leon expected out of this evening. Seeing Ada isn't too surprising but making love to her? Leon never expected that. As he pumped himself into her, he could feel how tight she was getting. That meant she was close. It's not surprising-she is still sensitive from what he ate her out.
Ada hooked her arms around his neck. She was clinging onto him like a spider monkey with a tree. Leon brought his hand down to her clit and started to gently rub it. "Yes Leon, god, just like that." Ada huffed out, kissing him again and licking his lower lip. She was begging for entry. Leon opened his mouth again and kissed her lovingly. The way his thumb rubbed over her clit was enough to get her so close to the edge. She knows she'll finish any second.
Leon swiftly raised his other hand behind her back and tugged on her black hair, pulling her neck backwards. Ada giggled as Leon kissed all along her neck and collarbone. He was sure to leave marks. He wants people to know she got fucked. "I'm so close." Ada whispered to him. Her arms were resting on his back now, primarily for support but also just because she needs him close to her. "Cum for me."
With just a few more thrusts into her, Ada was finished. She came around him. Her liquid fluids seeped onto his cock as he fucked her fast and roughly. "Mmm fuck." Leon grunted, continuing to move into her. Ada moaned and held onto him tighter. Her entire area down there felt more sensitive than ever before since she's orgasmed twice in one night plus, Leon isn't stopping.
All Ada had to do was kiss him softly and run her fingers through his hair to get Leon to finish. He pulled out of her and released his semen all over her inner thighs. He panted heavily. That was the greatest sex of his life. He was so happy it was with Ada. Ada smiled and pulled a rag out of her wallet, wiping herself off. "You are a goddess." Leon whispered to her. "Oh?" Ada didn't expect such a compliment.
"You are great at sex." Leon stated, adjusting his pants. Ada nodded and fixed her dress. Leon went to grab her panties to put them back on her but she shook her head. "Keep them." She winked before getting off of the table. "You're really just going to go?" "Hm? Yes. I said that." Ada began to amble towards to door. "You know you'll see me again one way or another, Leon." "Yeah... Hopefully." He looked down, fidgeting with his fingers.
Ada tilted her head and made an "Awe" noise. She traversed to him and pressed a gentle kiss to his jawline. "You fucked me very well... I promise, that won't be the last time..." She kissed him once more and went to the door. Before she left, she turned her head and spoke. "So long, Leon." Ada then left the room. "Bye." He murmured beneath his breath. She's probably off to manipulate someone else for money or something.
Looking down at her panties, Leon chuckled. He can't believe she just gave them to him. He stuffed them into his pocket then fixed his hair. "Fuck me." He grunted before leaving the room. He never saw Ada again for that entire night.

Leon Kennedy’s wiki page is filled with lies and bullshit
And whoever is running the wiki is so afraid of being told that they’re wrong that editing on it is currently disabled -- so I figured I’d just compile a list of errors on my own.
This isn’t fully comprehensive, because my eyes started to glaze over at a certain point, but. It is color coordinated and fully explained.
If you need to reference Leon’s wiki for any reason, please make sure that you have this post up also as well, so that you’re not pulling bad information. Most of the wiki is fine, but there are some things in here, man. People really do just be going on the internet and telling lies.
Tumblr media
Notice how there's no citation for this. The source that's actually being pulled from is an offhanded comment the RE2 concept artist made in an art book that Capcom released called Capcom Design Works. It was only ever released in Japan.
Concept artists don't have access to the script and aren't involved with the actual creation of the character. Concept artists are given a general description of what a character should look like and what their general demeanor is. The devs told this artist specifically to make Leon look tanned, so the artist wondered if maybe Leon's heritage was from somewhere in southern Europe — maybe Italy?
It is important to know that Leon's character was conceived and had art drawn of him back when Resident Evil 2 had a completely different story. A different version of RE2 reached 80% completion before being scrapped and completely redone from the ground up. The story changed dramatically. Claire Redfield wasn't even in this original version of RE2; it was a different character entirely named Elza Walker. (source one, source two)
Ergo, even if the intention was to give Leon an Italian background originally, that story no longer exists and has nothing to do with the version of Resident Evil 2 that actually released.
This isn't a big deal, but "offered" is a really funny way of saying "threatened into."
Leon also was never in USSTRATCOM. That's a bullshit lie based on an old build of RE4 that never got released and was, in fact, turned into the game Haunting Ground instead. The wiki says that the proof of this is in a file in Darkside Chronicles. No such file exists -- and, even if it did, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi (who's been a producer and writer for RE since the original REmake) said recently that Darkside Chronicles is no longer canon anyway.
Tumblr media
None of this is ever stated in the games. This is pulled from a promotional marketing interview from 1997 — so, before RE2 was even finished or released. There's a decent chance that this interview was done right after 1.5 got thrown out and 2's final story wasn't even fully realized yet.
Capcom has actually given Leon several different backgrounds throughout the years, and none of them have ever made it into the games.
The official Resident Evil 2 novelization has Leon fresh out of college and moving to Raccoon City from New York.
Welcome to Raccoon City wrote that Leon's dad was a cop, and that's how he got into the force, too.
But there's no indication of any of them being true for Leon as he exists in the games. There's no reason to think of the crime background as any more or less canon than the other two, except maybe that someone just likes it better?
In fact, part of that crime backstory is outwardly and explicitly contradicted in Resident Evil 2 itself:
Tumblr media
So take that for what you will.
Tumblr media
The wiki cites "Official GuideBook" as the source for this. No book with that title exists.
What they're actually referring to is The Resident Evil Archives, which is a book that is filled to bursting with factually incorrect information about the games. Here's the full excerpt of the passage containing that backstory:
Tumblr media
Is this really what we're taking as canon fact now? Claire and Sherry being Leon's "single focus" in RE2, with absolutely no mention of Ada at all? Leon being mad about Claire "making her own decisions"?
Here's something else fun from the RE Archives:
Tumblr media
I don't see anything on this wiki page about how Leon willingly gave Sherry up to the US Army, nor anything about him reaching out to the federal government himself in order to willingly join their ranks. It's very interesting how only the "drunk at a motel" part made it in.
Citation needed???? The citation is the Resident Evil 2 Remake. This is something that's actually stated in a game — and the wiki is treating it as fanfiction, listing it as secondary to whatever bullshit the RE Archives book is spouting.
This is also the single only glimpse we have ever gotten into anything Leon was doing prior to the intro of RE2. The games do not go any further back in time to explain anything further about where he's from or what his life was like.
Tumblr media
This is straight-up not true. It's just an out-and-out lie.
Tumblr media
So, Leon and Benford only started working together ten years prior to Benford's death in June of 2013 — making the genesis of that partnership land in 2003. 2002 at the earliest. Neither of those years are 1998, which is the year that Leon was coerced into government custody.
It also makes no sense as to why Leon would like, trust, and respect Benford so much if he was the man responsible for threatening Sherry and ruining his life. It also makes no sense for Benford to be a child-threatening piece of garbage and then also be described as having integrity and being a man of his word.
The only thing that RE6 actually says about who Benford was prior to becoming President was that he was "in the military." 2002 makes sense for Leon and Benford to have met, then, since 2002 was the year of Operation Javier. Leon's status in the government isn't exactly clear during the events of Operation Javier — Leon isn't sent in as a federal LEO; he's sent in with military special forces.
The likeliest explanation is that Adam Benford was the lead commanding officer overseeing Operation Javier — who, upon suspecting he might be dealing with B.O.W.'s, went "Hey, get me the Raccoon City guy. I want him going on this one."
And the rest, as they say, is history.
This is all purely conjecture on my part and cannot be proven or disproven either way — but it, at the very least, makes more sense than just assuming that this one particular file in RE6 got the year of the Raccoon City incident wrong. It also makes more sense than assuming that Leon has some sort of weird Stockholm Syndrome concerning Adam Benford, when he (Leon) is so angry and cynical and jaded in literally every single title after RE4 about his career and about being shackled to the government.
Adam Benford being the guy behind Leon's kidnapping is so beyond the pale and absurd, and the only real basis for it is an advertisement for an airsoft gun, and I'm not joking. I don't know how anyone tries to argue that that ad is more canon than what's both stated and shown in the actual series, but here we are.
This is something that is only true in Resident Evil 4 Remake. Originally, Operation Javier was the first time that Leon and Krauser ever met, per Darkside Chronicles. It is very weird that this detail exists in the wiki, but then the wiki goes on to only describe the DSC version of Operation Javier, with no mention given to the complete overhaul that that story got in RE4make. You wouldn't be able to even asspull a "Krauser only started training Leon after Operation Javier" explanation, either, because in OG RE4, Leon is under the impression that Krauser actually died almost immediately after returning home.
Tumblr media
There's no citation for this, but the source is the box art for the Wii version of RE4. However, no other version of RE4 ever makes mention of what school Ashley was going to. The only hint we have ever gotten in a game as to where Ashley was going to school is actually in RE4make, because the sorority stickers on her phone correspond with a sorority out of New York.
Tumblr media
There's no citation for this, because the source is RE: Umbrella Corps, which has no provable basis in canon.
Tumblr media
This isn't true. Here's the citation that the wiki uses:
Tumblr media
There's no year given there, and there's no indication that this happened at some sort of TerraSave reunion. In fact, them meeting in 2010 makes no sense, because this file establishes that there were no open lines of communication between the US government and the BSAA prior to this moment — so how the fuck would Chris have gotten his hands on Leon's report outlining the events of RE4 back in 2009?
Considering the fact that Lost in Nightmares took place in 2006, and that explicitly involved remnants of Umbrella via Oswell Spencer, chances are that that's probably closer to the time that this meeting between Leon and Chris actually happened.
Or, if you wanted to be cheeky about it, you could say that this happened in 2008 so that Hunnigan's "hadn't seen each other in ten years" thing is actually at least a little bit true — since Leon and Chris actually first spoke back in either late 1998 or early 1999, per Code Veronica and Darkside Chronicles.
But there's really no canonical indication of it either way. You can't even use Benford as a benchmark, because Hunnigan could've been reporting to him as POTUS or as a military officer. There's really no way to know.
So, that’s that. I hope we all learned something today. For future reference, don’t look outside of the actual games or movies for information about the series, because it is constantly being contradicted by either other supplementary material or actual game canon. This is the formula you should be following:
numbered game entries are the most canon. numbered game entries will always have the final say. period.
spinoff games starring the recurring cast* (Revelations, Code Veronica, etc) are the second highest tier canon.
CGI movies starring the main cast are the third highest tier canon.
spinoff games not starring the main cast (Outbreak, Dead Aim, etc) are the fourth highest tier canon.
anything else should be ignored.
*spinoff games that have a story, that is. things like The Mercenaries 3D and RE:Verse clearly don’t count and are there for fun gameplay purposes only.
In an instance where things on the same tier contradict each other, the most recent installment wins out.
So, Sherry’s age in RE2 is 10 because RE6 said so – even though OG RE2’s manual had her age listed as 12. Her age of 10 years was then also reaffirmed in RE2make. So, she was 10.
And Gaiden’s not canon, despite it starring Leon and Barry, because RE4, RE6, and Revelations 2 do not acknowledge it as such.
It is very easy to follow this canon if you follow that recipe.
I also have an essential canon list already typed up and ready to go. These are the only titles you should ever have to even think about committing to your brainspace.
Please don’t let bad faith actors lead you astray, and stop leaning so hard on the wiki until it fixes its problems.
My inbox is always open for questions.

re: about Leon's emotions and feelings towards Ada and vice versa. This is my little attempt to break it down and offer a perspective that evidently not many in this fandom have and here's how: it's been romanticised to hell and back, I wouldn't be surprised if one day the division at Capcom reveals a big "well actually it was never about love between them, but rather a plethora of events that attached them to each other"
Because it can't be about love, it's just too ludicrous. It's not love. It's trauma bond, and like you said it's a sense of comfort and familiarity. But people in our society are too simple minded and once again viewing things through such short sighted romanticised lens to ever be objective about the reality of it. Nothing that Leon and Ada have is written in stone to set some "relationship" to flourish because it's not that, it's a situationship and nothing more.
This is why they resort to trying to use what the devs say and conveniently put words in their mouths to try and justify their biased perspectives. Just because they won't change their dynamic of the usual Ada being one step ahead of Leon and always leaving him in the dark and being a weakness of his, does not mean that it's love. Because it isn't, that's not what they're doing and it's emotionally inept to think so. Because everything they've done has shown the exact opposite. Leon's character was never about Ada and Capcom removing the "romance" from their dynamic isn't what's gonna alter the entire plot, it's the nature of their typical two steps ahead alienation that would wreck it and that's why they'll keep the core of it. But it was never romance.
Hope all this makes sense lol, if you got anything to add, please do :)
"Leon's character was never about Ada"
Everything you said here is 100% correct but I think that specifically stands out a lot, because I think a big issue with hardcore Aeon shippers is that they see Ada as an extension of Leon and vice versa. Like you can't have Leon without Ada, and Leon can never have feelings for anyone else because Ada is such an integral part of his story or whatever. Ada is no more significant to Leon's narrative than Claire or Sherry; the only difference is that he developed feelings for Ada, but having feelings for someone does not equate to love.
I've said this before, but I understand shipping from the perspective of 'these two characters look good together/have a dynamic I like to explore through fanon.' When it extends to taking developer comments out of context to prove canonization of a relationship dynamic that obviously doesn't exist, foregoing common sense and any understanding of nuance? That's touchgrass behavior.
Yes, the only canon longstanding love interest Leon has ever had in the franchise is Ada. This is a fact. However, love is something that is developed over time, and Leon and Ada barely know each other. A loving romantic relationship is not what has been established between them. It's very clear that they both have feelings for one another in the original continuity, but any chance of a normal romantic relationship is ruined by the complexity of their personal situations and moral standing. That's the interesting part about their dynamic, which is literally why they're written that way. That dynamic doesn't even entirely change in the remakes; it's tweaked and built upon, like everything else. Whether or not Leon has feelings for Ada, his story doesn't change, and neither does the foundation of their relationship.

So I finished the Ada campaign, which means I've now actually played all the campaigns of Resident Evil 6 between the original release in 2012 and now. It's been quite a while since I've played the other campaigns, though. My feelings toward this game are still mixed, which probably isn't surprising, but it's hard to give a full recommendation or caution for this game. What you want to get out of this game will impact whether you like it or not. There are a few things that I can criticize absolutely, though.
Okay, so this game in whole is absurdly long for a RE game. The longer games in the series historically were RE4 and RE5, which can feel a bit lengthy on the first playthrough but are single campaigns broken into very digestible chunks. RE6 campaigns tend to feel just a little longer than they should given the material they are working with. That's to say nothing of their much poorer pacing at times. Ada's campaign actually ends up mostly fine, and it's also shorter than the others in terms of playtime. Thing is, the game is also often very action focused, pushing you to move quickly and fight rather than run due to the often enclosed spaces, which I find tiring for long play sessions. Between the thin hallways of a submarine to the surprisingly restrictive construction of an abandoned street market, RE6 is less interested in offering you ways to run than ways to fight. This is, to me, often fun and a good time, but the tension it creates isn't really right for the horror that RE tends to invoke. It's less George Romero's Dawn of the Dead and more Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead, and I'm far more of a Romero fan at the end of the day.
Speaking of differences in storytelling, RE6 does another thing that I find to be particularly troublesome. See, Resident Evil has always been a story of conspiracies, corporate malfeasance, government corruption, and how the best any of the so called "good cops" can ever manage to do is get a few people out of a bad situation without being able to actually change anything. Something RE has usually avoided is excessive sexualization. There are exceptions, most notably character designs like Alexia Ashford's first boss form and alternate costumes, with special mention going to Sheva Alomar's Tribal costume from RE5 being another example of that game being genuinely quite racist as well. Sadly, RE6 has nearly enough moments that are fairly sexist to nearly equal the rest of the series before it put together. Ada and her doppelganger Carla are shown naked twice (no details, of course), Sherry is the only returning character who isn't the title character in her campaign, and then there's Deborah, a boss fought in both Leon's and Ada's Campaigns who is a naked woman writhing like an exotic dancer while attacking you with giant tentacles. There are other moments, but Deborah is enough by herself to justifiably put people off from the game. As an aside, the entire game's conflict is the result of one very powerful man having a certified incel moment and forcibly transforming a woman to look like Ada Wong because he has a sexual obsession with her. It's pretty bad in general. Chris, Piers, Jake, and Sherry fair far better narratively IMO by being mostly unconnected to that crap, but it's still overall a low quality story.
Mechanically, the game is mostly fun. Like I said, Zack Snyder Dawn of the Dead, even having a moment where you have to defend a bus full of survivors from zombies. Every character has a slightly different style based on their unique weapons and melee skills, and it makes everyone fun to play for someone once you get the hang of the controls. The Combat bar (your stamina meter) is the central focus of moment to moment combat, minimizing ammo consumption and allowing for many fun combat opportunities. Ada, for instance, can quickfire her crossbow to either immediately stick a bomb to a target while reloading the weapon in one move, or can use a regular arrow to stick an enemy to the ground or wall for an easy finisher. Leon's handgun has two modes, one for staggering for melee followups, and one that lets you pour bullets into an enemy to maximize damage. Combined with the skill system that lets you unlock, purchase, and equip bonuses to fit your playstyle, the game is able to be tuned to your liking. The controls take time to get used to, and the quick time events are overused to the point where turning them off in the options menu is quite tempting, but there's a lot here to like in terms of pure play.
Resident Evil 6 didn't get a fair consideration when it was released, but it didn't really ask for one either with the name and legacy of Resident Evil attached. RE6 is an action focused thrill ride that outclassed the Paul W.S. Andersen Resident Evil movies in how much action and fanservice they could cram into the product without seeming to get the core of why people loved Resident Evil for over a decade prior. Capcom didn't let RE6's fairly impressive sales numbers prevent them from course correcting, though. They thankfully went on to give us the fantastic Winters storyline of RE7 and RE8 while dialing back the adrenaline for the more action oriented Revelations 2 and later REmakes. Resident Evil 6 therefore remains a very fascinating game from a unique time in the franchise's soon to be 30 year history, and is unlikely to ever be revisited outside of ports for modern consoles. It's a historical piece, and for people who are interested in the shifting nature of game design over the years, it's definitely worth checking out. I'd recommend waiting for a sale, though. XP

hai! speaking of RE’s storywriting, I’d like to hear your thoughts on what you personally think is the best, and worst story in the franchise? (Remake games included) :o
🚨First of all, thank you so much for this ask 🫶
Okay so, I'll list the games I've played first:
RE1 remake (Jill scenario)
RE2make
RE3make
RE4 og
RE4 remake (+ DLC)
Revelations 1 and 2
RE 5
RE0 (not finished)
RE6
RE7 (+ Chris and Zoe'sDLC)
RE8 (+ Rose DLC)
As you can see, I can't speak for much for the original trilogy + Code Veronica (1-3) because I haven't played them, I know very specific things and the story in general, but I haven't played them.
The worst is definitely RE6, by all means. The only campaign I genuinely liked was Chris' and that’s because I like his dynamic with Piers, but everything else? RE6 doesn't work because it tries to do everything and doesn't end up nailing anything down. Having so many playable characters may sound like a great thing, but everyone's time is so limited that none of them feel complete.
On better storytelling,
I would like to give more credit to Ethan's saga because I love that character (cof cof I have daddy issues cof cof cof) but other than that we control someone outside of the main cast it offers...nothing substantially interesting story-wise.
And I would LOVE to give the spot to RE2make because my critical sense goes with that game, but I won't. Because there was wasted potential there. Still, I think the characters and how Leon and Claire's campaigns are developed respectively are fine and respect the essence of these characters giving them even more charisma than they had in the originals in my opinion.
And finally answering the question I must say RE4make.
And it's no surprise to anyone, I think it's a popular opinion. When I touch RE4 og again I'm surprised because now my mind instantly thinks about the remake first and I've only finished it about...2 times?
But think about it, you have your protagonists: Leon and Ashley, their personal conflicts are simple but completely understandable and even relatable. The dynamic between them is so organic that sometimes I get the impression that they had more interactions than were written.
RE4's story has always felt like fanfic to me (lol) but Leon and Ashley hold that simple story to give us something memorable and it closes on all sides.
Even Ada and Luis who are secondary characters have their moment to shine (DLC for Ada). The writers saw these characters and said "Let's make each character to have something to say" and everything they said was consistent and fair.

I know that a lot of people write smut just because they’re trying to purge themselves of impure thoughts (what if I wrote this entire post like I was trying to lead a sermon), but that’s like. A basic bitch approach to smut writing.
Smut is one of the best opportunities to do a character and/or relationship study, because sex is when characters are at their most vulnerable. The most powerful sexual organ in the human body is the brain -- so, if you’re not digging into a character’s brain when you’re writing them fucking, you’re not doing it right. Characterization matters in smut. A lot. More than it does in other types of scenes, I’d argue. And, chances are, your audience is reading your smut because they’re also fans of the character you’re writing for, so they want to get the emotions and perspective of that character.
So fucking stop taking generic porno dialogue and putting it in your goddamn smut fics, you jackals.
If you’re writing Remake Leon specifically...
... and you actually have him saying the words “cock” or “pussy” I need you to close whatever PornHub tab you have open and focus on what the hell it is you’re actually writing.
In RE2make, Leon actually self-censors a lot and seems to actively try not to swear. It still comes out here and there, but he’s very mindful of the words that he uses and seems like he doesn’t ever want to come off as rude -- even when he’s pissed/heated.
In RE4make, that has changed and now Leon throws f-bombs around like they’re flash grenades -- but he’s still not really openly vulgar with it. He ignores and doesn’t comment on all of the sexual passes that get thrown at him -- and, in some cases, aggressively ignores them (Ada literally offers him sex in their very first conversation, and he just says nothing) -- and he even seems kind of uncomfortable just calling Krauser an asshole, but there just isn’t a better word to use that would capture what he’s trying to convey.
And that’s the word “asshole” not even being used literally. Just figuratively. Colloquially. And even that’s kind of like “ehhhh” for him.
I don’t really think that this is the guy who’s going to actually say to you that he wants to taste your pussy. I just don’t. Even though I’m sure he super does want to do that.
He’s also probably not the guy who’s going to say explicitly what he’s going to do to you.
But what Leon does do a lot is give affirmations and seek validation and constantly check in with Ashley. He also has something to prove. Like, this is the guy who will say out loud, even if there’s no one around “Not bad, right?” after killing some dudes -- so, that’s probably more along the lines of what you’d hear him say in bed. It’d be a lot of:
“Like that?”
“Is this what you wanted?”
“I’ll take care of you.”
“That’s so fucking good/hot.”
“I know how you want/like it.”
“How’s that feel?”
“I’ll give you exactly what you want.”
Probably the most explicit he’d get would be something along the lines of: “You make me so fucking hard.”
By the time of RE4make, he’s also very comfortable with giving commands -- and I think that’s where a lot of smut writers get tripped up. Commands don’t have to be vulgar to be explicit and hot -- and since Leon doesn’t seem comfortable going vulgar with it, his commands would be very simple, very stern, and hot due to what’s left unsaid.
“Come here.”
“Eyes on me.”
“Turn over.”
“Talk to me.”
“Louder.”
“Keep going.”
“Take this off.”
And, for this, probably the most explicit command he’d give would be something like: “Touch yourself.”
So, like -- yeah, the implication there is “rub your pussy/stroke your cock” -- but “touch yourself” still gets the job done and even leaves the door open for some creativity. You don’t have to use the words -- and, I don’t think he would.
If you’re writing OG Leon...
Most of the above still applies, but you could probably get away with being a bit more vulgar, because he has that uh. Chronic Whoring Problem. But I still don’t think he’d be too over the top with it. He’d pull out the vulgarity very sparingly and only for effect.
OG Leon is the kind of guy who will smack your ass and say, “Take your pants off, slut” because he thinks that’d get you excited, but then he’d proceed to call you “sweetheart” and “good girl” for the entire rest of the time you’re in bed with him.
He’d also probably pull out the vulgarity if he was with someone who was too shy/embarrassed to ask for what they wanted, so he’d just say it for them in the bluntest, dirtiest way possible -- and then never talk like that again for the entire rest of the time, because he’s also kind of embarrassed by having said it, though he’d never admit that out loud; he just wanted to get his partner to come out of their shell more.
There’d also be a bit more ego/arrogance to what he says vs his Remake counterpart. Like, instead of just “Talk to me” the command from OG Leon would be something more along the lines of “Tell me how good that feels.”
And that
That is a whole fucking post I just wrote.
This post exists now.
Here it is.
I’ll never get the time back that I spent writing it.
Also don’t forget to put emotions in your smut, people. Goddamn it.

What did you think of Leon and Ada's new relationship in the remakes? Meta wise
I think it's an interesting and more nuanced take on their relationship! Which I definitely like. I see no point in judging OG RE2's love story between them, no matter how cliché and nonsensical it is. It's a product of its time, and it's charming in its own cheesy way. Teenage me cried over Ada's death in there, so I do have a soft spot for it.
But the Remakes offer a fresh interpretation of what happened between them, and I'm definitely interested to see where they will take their relationship in the future (that is if they do, because I wouldn't mind them just having separate story arcs from now on).
If we're talking actual analysis, I'll put down my thoughts. I don't know if you can call it a full-on analysis per se, as it's more just me writing out my personal interpretations on things. So keep that in mind please!
Long post under the cut. I'm talking almost 4k words and way too many shitty gifs (I have no time to make them all polished). I have way too much to say. I'll basically be going over their entire relationship throughout RE2R and RE4R so... yeah.
RE2R and RE4R are two games that offer a full story for Leon's character, and that's a very awesome thing that Capcom has done. I'd even say it's one of the best things they've done with RE recently. Making RE4R feel like a direct continuation to Leon's arc in RE2R makes total sense, and it makes many scenes in RE4R that much more satisfying to play through.
While RE2R does end on a somewhat positive note (much like every RE game has to), Leon's arc in it is very much negative. He loses more than he gains, he's unable to save anyone, and his good intentions end up being used against him. Claire ends her RE2R story by saving a little girl she has come to care for. Leon ends his RE2R story by losing the G-sample, 'losing' Ada without getting much, if any, closure from her, and not saving even a single person he has encountered. Claire and Sherry don't really count in Remake-verse (which I kinda don't like) because their storylines mostly happened separately from each other.
And that's not mentioning that he gets (assumedly, and I am very much hoping we'll finally see more concrete scenes of how it all happened in Remake-verse) pretty much kidnapped and forced into a life he never wanted right after. To say that Leon can't get a break in RE2R is like saying nothing at all. Poor guy gets put through the wringer on every level.
Now, onto his relationship with Ada, and how it ties into everything... It should be said that, while he obviously grows to care about her throughout their short time spent together, he remains suspicious of her. RE2R Leon is naive, but I often feel like people make him too naive. He's not an idiot. He tries over and over again to get answers from her, and he clearly feels apprehensive with her. And I mean... that makes sense. While she does save him multiple times, she keeps her distance from him.
Tumblr media
I'd say he starts opening up to her on an emotional level after witnessing Robert having to kill off his own daughter. He directly confronts her, demanding for answers and voicing his drive to do what's right. In a way, that's him showing his vulnerability to her. And Ada uses it against him. After all, it's a perfect opportunity to play on his (rather naive) determination to be the hero to help her achieve her own goals. Ada is also the only figure of 'authority' he has at the moment. Even if her claim of being FBI seems kinda off, she's the only one he has.
And I'll go over Ada and how I interpret her later. For now, just keep in mind that her using Leon is more of a gray area than just some horrible, disgusting thing. I'm just going over the events from Leon's viewpoint here.
Tumblr media
So, they team up. Ada starts softening up to him. They share light banter with each other: 'A: After you. L: Gee, thanks.' She expresses concern over his safety (the alligator scene). I'd say that's the point where he starts to care for her on a more personal level from before. As you would.
Him taking a bullet for her was instinctual. I'd say it's a more pivotal moment for Ada's character here rather than Leon's. In Leon's case it's moreso her taking care of him right after that matters. He directly mentions it to her later on (at least I'm pretty sure his 'you protected me' referred to that). I'd say him waking up to find himself tucked in with her coat and his wound taken care of was the moment his 'I care because it's another person who's in this with me' turned into 'I care because I feel genuine attachment to this person'.
Was it romantic? I'd say that's left for you to interpret how you wish. I like to think of it as him just caring for her as a person. Leon is someone who cares very deeply for others, and he's always striving to be the protector to those around him. I kind of think that someone caring for him when he's weak and vulnerable is something that is very meaningful to him. Now, Ada saves him multiple times at that point. But that's the first instance of her arguably going beyond what's needed. Sure, taking care of his wound was necessary, although she could have just let him be as he was for all we know. But tucking him in on top of that? Yeah, that's an obvious 'I care' gesture.
From then on, Leon is following Ada because he wants to trust her. And I do want to ring this home. He wants to trust her. Doesn't mean he does trust her. Because even though he shows genuine care for her, it's clear that he knows she's might not be telling him everything.
He wants her to trust him, so that she'll tell him what she is keeping from him. So that he can trust her.
The kiss scene is a perfect representation of exactly that, I'd say. Honestly, I'll just link this analysis right here, because I pretty much interpret it in almost the exact same way. But I'll go over it in my own words as well.
Leon's growing frustration is in full display here. He turns around from her, he paces, he tries to appeal to her. To just trust him enough to be honest with him. It's clear that he knows Ada might not be telling everything, but he chooses to believe her regardless.
Tumblr media
Hence the exchange that follows this:
Ada: 'Hey Leon, trust me?'
Leon, walking up to her: 'Trust me?' (Reversing her question)
Ada: 'Honestly, if I didn't, you'd probably be dead.' (A genuine answer as far as we know, but it's not one Leon wanted to hear, so he shakes his head, mutters 'Right.' and walks off.)
And I do feel like Ada knows that Leon is suspicious of her here. Her reaction once he walks off comes off as kind of panicky to me. She knows she might be losing him, and she can't have that. So, she once again appeals to what she knows is his weak spot. His drive to help others and 'save' the city. It does work. Somewhat. But he's still swaying, so she does the first thing she thinks of. She kisses him.
Tumblr media
She, quite literally, cuts off his line of thought so he stops thinking about it. Because him thinking is dangerous for what she's really doing here.
I think it would be very disingenuous to say that that was a kiss of love or affection. It is not presented as such, nor is it addressed that way in all. It was Ada's last attempt at stopping Leon from questioning her any further. How much of it was her focusing on her goals, and how much of it was her effort to 'protect' him from potentially figuring out the truth, is left to your interpretation. But whatever intentions she had, good or bad, it was a kiss of manipulation.
It does shut Leon up, as he's visibly stunned. He doesn't even say anything at that. He just stares at her, then at her hand on his knee. Now, here's the tricky part of it all. Do I think Leon felt romantic affection/attraction to her here? On some level, I'd say yes. But it's definitely no 'love at first kiss' or anything like that. He's confused, mostly. While he spent arguably little time with Ada, it was a time full of meaning. Surviving side by side and protecting one another is no small feat. And Ada did show her care for him.
I think, he chooses to trust her in that moment, because he, once again, wants to believe in her. Even if her kiss felt out of nowhere, and so much of what she says (or rather doesn't say) makes no sense. He chooses to trust her because he wants to think that she's a good person who cares for him.
Tumblr media
And so, we come to the pivotal bridge scene once he learns the truth. I do like how he confronts her in a blatantly emotional manner rather than logical. It's not so much about her being a mercenary itself, as it is about her using him and lying to him. That's what he's actually confronting her about, whether he realizes it or not. That's exactly why he tells her to shoot him, fully resolute as he holds her gaze. He wouldn't do that if he was just trying to apprehend a criminal like a good cop would (as he tries to present it at first).
But, he never gets that closure or resolution he was aiming for. Ada lowers her pistol. He breaths out shakily, probably wanting to continue talking, to figure this out. But he doesn't get that.
I do think Ada telling him to take care of himself as her 'last words' is a very painful thing for him. Because it leaves him with no actual closure on what happened between them. Ada chose to not harm him, and her last words to him are ones of selflessness. But she also lied to him and used his vulnerabilities to achieve her goals. And it's not like Leon knows anything about her occupation, and just how much she's involved with it on an emotional level. Maybe she's someone forced to do this against her will. Or maybe she enjoys doing such dirty jobs for all he knows.
That's the thing. Leon doesn't know. And that must be both frustrating and painful. He's basically left questioning all of his interactions with her, how much of it was genuine, whether she was honest with him at all.
And, most importantly, his time with Ada basically proves to him that his drive to protect and save, his willingness to give people the benefit of the doubt - is a flaw, and a weakness. It directly ties into his arc in RE4R. (And his relationship with Krauser, in a way, but I won't go over it here.)
He throws away her bracelet on the train, and I think that kind of shows that he chooses to believe in the pessimistic way of interpreting their time together. He throws it away because he doesn't want to hold on to something that reminds him of her. And, simultaneously, of his mistakes.
Now, let's go through the same events from Ada's POV, shall we? It's a bit more challenging, since we don't get to be in her shoes, but it's still a fun exercise.
Ada's initial interactions with Leon are ones of annoyance. She basically scolds him like a kid for always getting in danger and acts like saving him is a chore. But chooses to help him out regardless. I think it speaks of her humanity despite her line of work. It's an interesting dichotomy that follows her every single appearance pretty much, though not much is done with it (thanks Capcom). But yeah, despite her visible annoyance with him, she saves him time and time again.
Tumblr media
She doesn't visibly soften up to him up until that same Robert scene. She's pretty observant from what we can tell, and she probably already had a good idea of Leon's righteous nature, but it's the first instance of her actively playing into it instead of making small snide comments about it ('Trying to save the world?' 'Good luck with that.'). That doesn't mean she doesn't care, though. It's subtle, but the little sighs and changes in her facial expression do show that she's at least a little bit conflicted at the prospect of lying to him on such a huge level (though you can't see most of it with her sunglasses).
Tumblr media
It's one thing to say a passing lie about you being an FBI agent, and it's completely another to play the long game by using someone like that. But she needs to accomplish this task, and it already proved to be more difficult than she expected. Remember, Racoon City was Ada's first time dealing with anything of this sort, too. She might be a mercenary, but it's not like she had to deal with zombies and B.O.W's before that. She's out of her depth, and she has someone pretty much offering themselves to her as her assistance.
So, she takes the risk.
While she does join in some passing banter with Leon after that, she still keeps her distance. She's dry and mostly unemotional in her mannerisms. Remember how I said that Leon taking the bullet for her was more pivotal to her in the story? Let's go over that.
It would be disingenuous to say that Ada is a complex character, unfortunately. Most of the complexity she does have, we pretty much have to add on to ourselves. Hell, I'm doing it right now with this entire section! Capcom is doing a way better job with her in the Remakes, but she's still pretty flat as a character. Maybe this'll (hopefully) change in future installments. But for now, we work with what we have.
Either way, we do know that Ada is someone who's self-sufficient and chooses to work alone. She keeps her distance from everyone, and she lives by 'everyone for themselves' ideology. Basically, a total opposite of Leon's 'protector' role. All that to say... someone taking a bullet for her is definitely not something she would expect. On some level, specifically because she would never do that herself. Especially for someone she basically just met. But Leon risks his life for her. Furthermore, telling her to go ahead instead of anything else.
Tumblr media
I think that's the moment Ada starts caring for him on a personal level. Maybe she feels like she should repay him for this. Or that she owes him a debt. Regardless, she takes care of him and tucks him in, before proceeding further.
That care only grows once they reunite. Now she's the one injured, and he takes care of her, despite her protests: 'I can do it myself'. Ada is self-sufficient, but Leon offers her his companionship time and time again. We don't know whether that's something she lacks in her life or not. We don't know enough of her as a character to say that. But she's obviously someone who's not used to getting help from others. Again, on some level, because she doesn't do that herself.
Tumblr media
Remember, while Ada did save Leon numerous times before, she always acted visibly frustrated by it, like it was a chore she was forced into, despite her choosing to help him herself. Leon, on the other hand, is quick to offer and insist on helping out, very much eager to do that for her. She already made the choice to use him, but now she learns that he's a genuinely good person with a kind heart, and not just some stupid naive rookie.
And so, the kiss scene, again. I already said that her kiss feels like a last-ditch effort to stop Leon from questioning her any further. And I do think she acted on impulse. Thus why she follows up with a hand on his knee and the: 'I'm counting on you'. And I, personally, think she kind of regretted doing that right after. Or maybe felt extra conflicted about the whole ordeal as a whole. The way she slouches and sighs heavily once Leon leaves is very reminiscent of that. It's kind of a mix of 'Fuck, I messed that up, didn't I?' and 'What the hell am I going to do after this?'
Tumblr media
It also should be noted that Ada never meant to tell Leon the truth. It would be convenient for both of them. Leon would feel like he did something good, and she would complete her mission with no further issues. Both sides win. But... things go haywire. And she's confronted with the consequences of her initial choice to use him.
It'll be silly to say that Ada doesn't care for Leon. If she truly was this heartless mercenary some would like her to be, she would shoot him on the spot. Her pistol being empty doesn't really matter, either. Leon was basically offering himself up to her, again. Even without any bullets on her hands, she could have easily knocked him out or something.
But, she can't bring herself to hurt him. Because Leon really is a good person that doesn't deserve that. And she knows that, and she cares for him on a personal level on top of it all. We don't know what she was going to do, before Annette shot her. Maybe I'm actually talking out of ass here, and she really was planning on knocking Leon out cold. But, we'll never truly know.
And her last words for him are to take care of himself. Because, in a way, Ada, more than anyone, knows just how selfless Leon is. On some level, it's a wordless 'I'm sorry', if you wish to interpret it that way.
Boy, was that a lengthy mess! Their first introduction to each sure was tumultuous. But we still have RE4R to go through! Though it'll be more about Ada than Leon.
Nevertheless, let's talk about Leon's interactions with Ada. I think we all know he's noticeably harsher and colder to her. It's an interesting change, and it does show that he feels resentment towards her for what happened in Racoon City. We don't know how his initial conflicted feelings morphed into this resentment, but they did.
I don't think nearly enough people mention that he's genuinely being very damn rough with her in their little sparring session. While yeah, you could make an argument that he's holding back, he's not being careful either. Ada has to put in actual effort to fight him off, which she doesn't even succeed in because he takes her off-guard with his intensity.
Tumblr media
And he also puts the sharp end of his dagger to her throat. Just to rub more salt into the wound.
I don't think this was him wanting to hurt her or threaten her, though. It was more of a show of strength. Ada approaches him by taunting him and teasing him, like she can do whatever she wants to him. But he's not that same naive rookie anymore. And he shows her exactly that.
A kind of: 'Don't think you can play the same trick on me twice, or you might get burned' message. A message that I think Ada does get.
As for him smirking at her, I don't think that's him being 'happy' to see her or anything. I think that's just him being amused that she still thinks she can play him like that. He grows all cold and distant with her right after.
Leon obviously has a grudge that he hasn't let go of. I actually like how he's almost needlessly petty with her in RE4R. Making snide remarks, calling her heartless and dismissing her on numerous occasions. It shows that he does care. If he didn't, he would cooperate with her with no further complaints on his part. He's purposefully being cold to her to show that yes, he is still upset about what happened, and he will use every opportunity to demonstrate exactly that. It's petty and kind of childish, in a way. But it makes sense for him, and it adds extra flavor to their relationship at this point in time.
Though, he does offer an opening to her in the boat.
Tumblr media
'Have you changed, Ada? Or are you trying to use me again?'
It's a good parallel to his: 'Trust me?' In RE2R, and both phrases are used for a similar purpose.
He gives Ada an opening to trust him and be open with him. One that she doesn't take, again: 'What do you think?'
She gives him no answer. Just like she didn't in RE2R. I think, in a way, that kind of gives Leon an answer by itself. He trusts Ada and relies on her when push comes to shove, but he doesn't give her any more openings from then on. I'd say that's his 'I think we both know this is where we go our separate ways' moment.
With Ada, things are way more complicated, in a good way. Separate Ways gave us so much to work with, and that's amazing.
Throughout Separate Ways, we see Ada bouncing back-and-forth on what she wants to do. She's initially very cold and resolute in her job, helping Leon out more like a passing convenience than anything else. She does still help him, though. She's still dealing with the dichotomy of what she presents herself as, and what she actually acts as.
I really like her confrontation with Luis in particular. She's cutthroat and blunt. Almost chillingly so. And she only relents once Luis mentions her own infection. Him telling her of Leon's infection has little effect.
Tumblr media
'And why does that matter to me?'
I think that's a question she's asking herself just as much as Luis here. Though, she's still in her cold, self-sufficient mercenary role here. To be honest, I find her relationship with Luis in particular much more interesting in RE4R, but since we're talking about her and Leon here, I'll just say that Luis is the catalyst to her change (so to speak, Ada doesn't really change as a character per se, I'll elaborate on that later). Not Leon.
She confronts Leon face-to-face, quickly being met with the truth that he is not as easy for her to push around now. And I do think she has zero bad intentions there. She was genuinely just playing around and teasing him. Only to figure out that that approach won't work at all. It's kinda cute, honestly. So, she gives him an opening of her own instead. She tells him to leave Ashley, to prioritize his own safety over hers. Because that's what she would have done in his place. Leon is quick to shut that down. Something that Ada probably expected, as she just huffs and gives a knowing 'Right.' to that.
That's the moment Ada knows Leon hasn't changed. Not really. He might be colder, more ruthless and dangerous, but he's still that same guy, wanting to protect others, no matter what. She knows she'll have no success in swaying him at that point. Hence why she tells him exactly that on the boat later.
The next pivotal scene, I'd say, is her watching Ashley wake up and learn of Luis' death. Ada mostly treats Ashley like a nuisance, something Leon has to protect. Because that's his job. But in that moment, she sees the genuine connection they share with each other. She sees that Leon cares. And not just because Ashley is an innocent person he has to save, but because it's Ashley.
Ada's arc throughout Separate Ways is not that connected to Leon, which is a good thing. Similarly to Leon concluding his story from RE2R by saving Ashley and proving to himself (first and foremost) that he can protect someone he cares about, and that his humanity is a strength, not a weakness, Ada learns to accept herself, too. She's visibly conflicted at the start of SW, but by the end of it, she knows what she has to do, and she made peace with that. Her hesitating before going against Wesker in the facility is one of the last moments of her hesitating with her intentions.
Tumblr media
But, again, that scene is more about her and Luis. Luis is very important to Ada's character in SW, and I think that's neat.
While the scene itself is kinda awkward, her encountering Ashley during the final battle is another arguably important one. Her watching Leon and Ashley before that was about her witnessing Leon's care for her. Now she sees that Ashley fully reciprocates that care. They are on equal ground with each other.
And so, the final scene between them. I already said that Leon settled on his answer concerning Ada before that. But Ada makes one final opening to him. It's a selfish one. After all, what exactly would happen if Leon agreed to come with? Would they just leave Ashley to die and fly off into the sunset? On some level, I think Ada knows that what she's asking is unrealistic, especially for Leon. But I think it also speaks of her progression throughout Separate Ways. Ada learns to be more genuine with herself, even if it means being selfish or asking something that she knows will be rejected.
Tumblr media
So, she shoots her shot one last time. Leon gives his answer. Ada is not surprised by it. But she is visibly upset by it. She knew it was coming, though.
So, they do exactly that. They go their separate ways. At least for now.

I may or may not have just sent the 3 word challenge in my real account instead of anon... I'm sorry. Please don't answer there. :)
When you post, post answering here please.
Again, much love,
📚🌻
Don't worry dear! Your identity shall remain a secret 🥰 Here's yet another fic with my Resident Evil OC: Gwen Winters (she’s an adult guys, don’t worry. However this is still an Older Man/Younger Woman relationship)
The words dear  📚🌻 Anon gave me in their previous ask were: Unruly, endurable and system. Please enjoy!
What happens in the gym....
Pairing: Chris Redfield x Female OC
Warnings: Swearing, Spoiler Free 😊
Genre: Angsty Romance
“Sure, throw me in the fire like you always do, Leon!“ Chris snaps, clenching his fists tightly as he glares at his best friend while the two stand in the dimly lit gym.
“Chris, you’re a BSAA captain, for the love of God! You should know better than to complain about something as little as this!“ Leon, while significantly calmer tone and demeanor-wise, is glaring daggers of his own.
“Why me, damn it?! And why her?!“ Chris is not done with his attempts to get out of the situation Leon’s trying to land him in and his partner’s honestly done with it.
“And why not?! You see the same potential I see, why would it be so hard to train her? She’s a quick learner, she’s disciplined when she wants to be and she’s already skilled to a certain degree. You’ve made soldiers out of total wimps before, why is she such a hassle to you?!“
“Because she’s disciplined when she wants to be and I guarantee she won’t want to when she’s around me. She’s unruly, selfish, arrogant and a Chris-phobe. I’m telling you, she hates me!“
It’s about time Leon’s had enough of this conversation. To be honest, he was done with it as soon as it started but he stayed, thinking he’d be able to change Chris’ mind but seeing as how this is a hopeless case, he’s just been wasting his time. “Does she? Or are you projecting your hate for her onto her?” Slinging his duffel bag containing his training gear over his shoulder, Leon finally makes that realization that these are ten minutes of his life he’ll never get back and storms out of the gym without another word.
Chris doesn’t attempt to stop him, in fact, he’s relieved he left. He sighs, silently hating himself for all the shit he said and how he meant none of it. It was all hard bullshit and he doesn’t know whether to be thankful or disappointed that Leon didn’t realize. Either way, he’s been cleared of possible suspicion, even if training the newest BSAA rookie still remains as his task.
Gwen Winters, she’s such a fucking handful. One cannot tell if it’s because she’s angry with the world, angry with herself or just straight up picked up on the habits of the family that took her in when she was rescued from Raccoon City where she was held as an experiment hamster. A chemistry project basically. Ethan and Mia were recovering from the events back in Louisiana at the time, still probably are, that is not some shit you get over, so they thought having another person in the house would help them. And help Gwen did. See, Gwen isn’t a handful with everyone. In fact, she’s a real sweetheart and Chris knows it too, despite his bogus claims. He knows she’s got a heart and soul of gold and is built with the will of a BSAA soldier already. All she needs is a bit better fighting skills and she’s good to go.
He sees how she acts with everyone around him. She’s been quick to make friends with Jill and his sister Claire and she’s even got Leon’s liking and trust which is hella hard to get, especially after all the shit with Ada. She’s overall a super sweet and lovely girl, even with him from time to time. He’s seen her welcoming, friendly smiles whenever he stops by the Winters’ home. He’s heard her laugh at the jokes he rarely cracks.
Then why does she act like she hates him so often? And why does he claim he hates her?
Chris is snapped back to reality by the sound of rough impact. It’s a very distinct noise, one he places immediately: the sound of fists hitting a punching bag. It’s the middle of the night, almost midnight actually, and knowing how lazy the soldiers on his team are, he can only assume it’s either his sister or Jill, given that Leon just left. However, they’ve had people sneak in to train for free before, so it’d be for the best if he went to check who was releasing some pent up energy on the poor punching bag. Judging by the intensity of the punches being thrown, sounds like the person might be angry as well.
And they have every right to be. Because they are Gwen.
Chris’ face goes a bit red at the sight of the infuriated rookie giving the punching bag her all, punishing it the way she’d want to do to her superior she just heard call her all the names she hates being referred by.
“Winters I-“
“Unruly?“ Punch “Selfish?” Punch “Arrogant?” Punch
She stills herself, sighing and wiping the droplets of sweat from her forehead with the back of her hand, “You say all that and expect me not to be a Chris-phobe?” She lets out a bitter laugh, rolling her shoulders before continuing her wrath over the piece of equipment she’s threatening to destroy. She hasn’t spared him a single look yet, something he’s rather grateful for because the last thing he wants to see is whatever her gaze is hiding right now. “I’ll talk to Leon.” She says, her voice leveled and breathy, far from the pissed off tone she was just using. This calmness is a lot scarier though. “I’ll tell him I don’t want you to be my trainer. To be perfectly clear, I never wanted you to train me in the first place. I’m just not the type to complain, you know. I’m not picky. Beggers can’t be choosers. I take what I can get. And you were all I was offered, but...” she trails off, delivering a particularly hard punch, “It’s not gonna work. I may not be picky, but I know when to draw the line. I know when I deserve better.”
“Kid, you really have no idea what the case really is here.“ He attempts desperately, taunted by the thought of acting on his instincts and approaching her even if that means being the recipient of one of those hard punches.
“You know, I’m strong. I’m skilled. I can hold my own in a fight quite nicely. I’m endurable. I’m not afraid to work my ass off and sweat and pant like a dog after workouts. There’s not a line I wouldn’t cross, but you still choose to make me feel lesser than any soldier you’ve ever come across, that’s really lovely of you, Captain Redfield.“
“Winters, please...“
“It’s ok, I won’t tell Ethan and Mia. I’m sure they’ll send you to hell over it. I’m not petty like that.“
He’s had enough. He’s had enough of hearing that hurt tone in her voice. He’s done hearing these words she’s so certain are true but aren’t. He’s done lying to her and to himself. Before he can even think twice about it, he grabs her by the arms gently but firmly, turning her to face him despite her hostile attempts to free herself from his hold like a wild animal caught in a trap. He’s surprised when she relaxes, probably seeing that as a quicker way out of the situation rather than struggling though if she tried to free herself any longer he would’ve probably let her go.
“Fucking hell, Gwen, listen to me.“ He looks her dead in the eyes, catching onto the spark of shock created by his use of her first name. But he also sees something else, something that looks dangerously a lot like tears. He knows she won’t cry, especially not in front of him, but knowing that he’s the cause behind the welling of those crystal droplets in her always shiny, always smiling eyes breaks him. When she doesn’t look away nor protest, he continues, “I can’t be your captain. I can’t be your trainer. I can’t be any of that. I’m a strictly professional man, and it’d be highly unprofessional of me to take you in as my soldier.”
“But why?“ She’s fully aware she sounds like a whiny kid - exactly how she thinks he envisions her sometimes - but she couldn’t care less. She wants and needs answers. She knows she won’t be able to fall asleep or keep coming back to the training center if she doesn’t get them.
It’s blatantly clear this is far from easy for Chris. His first instinct is to look away, let go of her, run away like he always does - not that she’d let him do such a thing but still. He’s finds the words impossible to spit out yet he oh so desperately feels the need to get them out of his system. And so, he gathers all the strength within him and finally forces himself to say it.
“Because a captain isn’t supposed to look at a soldier the way I look at you.“
Sure, it sounds cryptic as heck but he has no doubt she’ll catch on. Gwen is a smart and sharp girl, among many other things. She confirms this when barely three seconds after he’s said it, he notices her eyes widening
“Sir, I-“
“Don’t.“ He says simply, a small, regretful smile playing across his lips as his hand slides down her arm to take hold of hers, “I just admitted my dirtiest secret to you and you are still gonna remind me how unprofessional I am by using my title, Kid?“
She purses her lips, the shock momentarily replaced by her signature mild glare, “Well, you just admitted your biggest secret to me and yet you still choose to call me ‘Kid’, huh?”
He chuckles, letting his other hand repeat the movements of the first, “Sorry, force of habit.” His thumbs brush against her knuckles briefly as his head falls, his gaze fixating on where their bodies are connected, “You know, I didn’t tell you this to get myself any pity or anything. I just wanted you to understand and....wanted to get it off my chest. Ethan will kill me if he finds out, won’t he?” He suddenly asks, regaining the courage to look up at her once again.
She giggles, “Who says he’s gonna find out?”
Chris bites the inside of his cheek, shaking his head, “You’re right, there’s nothing really to find out abo-”
Gwen has never been a chatter nor can she tolerate when people beat around the bush so she’s quick to cut them off sometimes, no matter how rude that may seem or sound. However, just to clarify, her chosen method of cutting a person off isn’t always kissing them. Just saying - this is a special situation requiring special methods.
Taken aback by the sudden feeling of her lips on his, Chris’ eyes close automatically but not even a second later he responds to the kiss properly: wrapping his arms around Gwen’s waist as her hands travel up to cup his face. The kiss is short - too short if either of them is to be asked - but it’s worth all the words they didn’t say despite wanting to.
When they pull away, Gwen gives him a mischievous smile, “Now he could find out about that and then shit would go south. That’d suck, wouldn’t it Chris?“
He’s only ever heard her say his name twice, once in passing conversation with Claire and once earlier when she paraphrased his term ‘Chris-phobe’, both time spoken with some dose of dislike he now realizes was a cover-up all along. Turns out the two are a lot more alike than they initially thought. Regardless, hearing her say his name with fondness instead of bitterness makes his heart flutter, his body yearn to have her closer, his lips wanting to be in contact with hers again. But he’s a patient and self-controlled man, he’s nothing if not willpower sculpted in a human body, so he keeps his distance, waiting for her to pick the moves, waiting for her to make the decisions just like she’s his captain.
“Big time.“ He manages to say, voice coarse all of a sudden, barely able to leave his throat. “So it stays here, right?”
She giggles again, bringing her lips within an inch or two away from his, taunting him, threatening to break his self-control, “What happens in the gym stays in the gym, Redfield.”
Golden rules of discretion, ones he mustn’t break ever. Especially not when his captain - Captain Gwen Winters - holds so much power over him.

Capcom really made me confused. Like you said, I think aeon is dead in remake verse. But, in Re2 remake, Leon actually told himself on the train after he escaped "I can't believe I actually miss her..." while smiling. And, in Re4 remake, we can see Leon's smile when Ada said "You can stop right there, Leon." when they met again after six years. And, when Leon said,"Ah, so aren't heartless after all. I guess I should be...thankful?" to Ada, Ada actually bit her lower lip. I think that shows the attraction between them. Maybe, Capcom made more realistic about their relationship? And, someone from Tik Tok who made analysis of Resident Evil Universe said that Leon's ending should be which he retires and settles down with Ada. So, what do you think?
Anon
I want you to stop and think about how absurd what you just said to me is.
You think Aeon is dead in the Remake-verse, presumably because all of the character dialogue and all of the body language and all of the thematic framing of their dynamic.
But Leon smirked once.
And that's enough to make you confused??
Ada IS attracted to Leon in RE4make. We've been over this. Leon is a Thing that she wants; she objectifies him. She's not only offering him a ride on the chopper at the end; she's offering him a ride in her pussy. He knows that. That's why his reaction is so incredulous.
Capcom IS being more realistic about their relationship. They did that by not making it romantic. You can want to fuck someone without being in love with them. It's heavily implied that Wesker and Ada have had a sexual relationship, and Luis is clearly attracted to her, too. None of that has anything to do with love. RE4make is just a horny game; everyone wants to fuck everyone -- and they especially want to fuck Leon. And that has nothing to do with any relationship being romantic.
I think that person on TikTok doesn't understand character arcs or emotional throughlines within narratives or the concept of catharsis, because if Capcom's writing staff is worth half of a shit, they'd know that the story between Leon and Ada is over. It ended in RE6 when Helena told Leon to go after Ada and he said "no." That was the moment of catharsis; that was the closure; that was his answer to the push and pull will-they-won't-they relationship between them.
The story is over. And Leon chose to not be with Ada.
And it makes sense to be over, because the true crux of Leon's character deals with his relationship with the government. For Leon to just... peacefully retire robs that arc of its moment of catharsis. He needs to have a moment of reckoning regarding what they did to him and what they've been doing to him since he was 21.
If Leon's story ends with him just hanging up his guns and saying "I've had enough" -- that is the worst possible outcome for his story. There's no payoff for so much of the build-up of his character arc.
Imagine a version of Lord of the Rings where Aragorn never becomes King and he just decides "nah fuck it" and goes back to being Strider. All of that build-up about being Isildur's heir and his destiny just tossed away at the last second; none of it ever mattered at all.
That's what Leon retiring would be.
Fucking abysmal.

No, Mia isn’t  "low-tier" compared to Ada (morally speaking, or w/e) – a measured answer?/essay
So, a couple of Ada haters tried to put up a false symmetry between both of these characters there on twitter, and it inspired me to put my own thoughts down in a more articulate essay as to why that's (Ada's somehow being morally worse than Mia) not sustained by canon in Resident Evil.
standing there, killing time
can't commit to anything but a crime
all the good girls go to hell
'cause even God herself has enemies
and once the water starts to rise
and heaven's out of sight
she'll want the Devil on her team. ⁕
First things first: let us debunk the false symmetry that they tried to establish between these two characters with extremely distinct archetypes – and worse, the following replies to this false symmetry and its poor arguments trying to validate it, pointing out that, in fact, no, character B (that would be Ada, btw) – which is so evidently and ridiculously different from character A (and that would be Mia) – is, in fact, WAY WORSE than character A, and then proceeding to assert some unsupported propositions about misogyny in Resident Evil (which, tbh, definitely IS a recurring problem in the franchise, but that in this case particularly, little or does not apply AT ALL) and how Ada contributes to "the perpetration of a biological cold war".
Starting with what differentiates Mia from Ada grotesquely: we know NOTHING of Ada's true alliances in RE's world. Mia, however, canonically worked for a group that participated in the importation and exportation as well as the manufacturing, testing and marketing of biological weapons: "The Connections", a CRIMINAL SYNDICATE which, amongst other things, was also involved in money laundering, assassinations as well as weapons and drug trafficking. I don't care at all about Mia, so I don't intend to waste much of my time going on about her role in the plot, but people should've already realized by just that much how infinitely dishonest is to try to put these two characters as "similar" ones, or argue that Ada is somehow worse.
Another detail that shouldn't escape anyone's attention too, are the origins and nationalities of both – and yes, I intend to briefly bring up racism against eastern-Asian looking characters (a silent plague that takes form by each passing day in all fiction fandoms) and anti-China xenophobia, but for now, hold this tea there just before I drop it: Mia is canonically American, and previously a Texas-state resident; meanwhile, we have no confirmation of Ada's nationality except for her pretty evident Chinese ancestry. But, as I said, hold it there for a while.
i) espionage — the job
red so silent
wait a minute
or just a little while.
what are you looking for? ⁕
At all times that Ada's "job" was brought up in this franchise, in ALL of her cameos, she has NEVER been called a mercenary in the original Japanese. She's always referred to as a SPY. Even in RE2R, the most recent title in which she's featured in, the original text of the game makes a point of labelling her as a SPY (and not a mercenary) in the dialogue that transpires between Annette and Leon.
It's the North-American translation and correspondent localization that now and then falls for the equivocal use of this other term. This distinction is important since espionage NECESSARILY implies operating in an organized service for, perhaps a country, or a political cause, or a class/group, or a corporation, or whatever. While a mercenary is someone who's acting per their self financial interests, indiscriminately selling their specialized "labour" and skills to anyone who'll offer more.
Ada's not a mercenary, she's a spy. But Mia, in addition to being hired to a canonically criminal company, was also the handler personally assigned to Eveline. I don't care how exactly Mia got in that predicament but the fact is: Mia was canonically employed by a company that profited over illicit activities and directly watched as a family was destroyed and toyed with by this new killing machine (Eve). Yet, we can't state for sure that we know to whom or to what Ada is truly affiliated with.
ii) sources — check them
who's a heretic now?
am I making sense?
how can you make it stick?
and I'm on a trial
waiting 'til the beat comes out. ⁕
This fandom should put a little more thought into which translation and localization of the game texts, dialogues and files they are using to support their arguments. I know that in some cases the United States people have a bit of an inclination to think of themselves as the owners of the planet and deem English as the only language that matters in this world, but let's not forget that RE is a Japanese franchise (wow, insane, right?!). Therefore, the most valid script, with the greatest amount of details, and highest credibility, is the Japanese original. Throughout these years, there have been several errors in translation and localization of the Japanese original to North-American English. And, believe me, curiously enough, plenty of those concern Ada, since she's often mentioned or referred to in a very vague way – without the use of pronouns or adjectives or adverbs that could help in indicating gender. This ended up causing those details and mentions to her to get overlooked, even though in the Japanese text it was a clear reference to her character (per observation of context).
iii) the good guys — one of
head in the dust
feet in the fire
labour on that midnight wire
listening for that angel choir
you got nowhere to run
careful son, you got dreamers plans
but it gets hard to stand. ⁕
Yes, as much as haters try to minimize it, it is SIGNIFICANT that Ada saved so many important characters and stood for unquestionably heroic actions in so many moments - like stopping everything she was doing so she could help completely random Chinese civilians with the helicopter she managed to pilot in that chaos in China (yeah, I know you haters love to forget about this, but it happened, it's there in canon, and no, it wasn't her direct OR indirect responsibility what was going on in China: REPLAY RE6 and for the love of GOD, never again argue that what she did was somehow "the equivalent of evacuating a city after selling a WMD to destroy that same city". It's a case of pure intellectual dishonesty to say such a thing. It's canon that Carla was the one who caused what happens in China, PLEASE, PLAY RE6).
Furthermore, Ada shows compassion on some occasions even for characters who are directly putting her in harms ways, like Annette (in RE2 OG, right after - in order to defend herself - she slaps Annette leading her to lose balance and collapse over the sewers fences, Ada makes an effort in trying to pull Annette back and prevent her from falling) and Carla.
Replay RE4 and pay attention to it, pay attention to her solo campaign: getting involved with Leon's journey in Spain hasn't brought any real benefit to her mission or herself: Ada deviates from her main path several times due to worrying about him and trying to help him and almost ends up dead in several of these occasions over her insistence in doing so: by saving him from Bitores Mendez, by helping him and Ashley against Sadler, by confronting Krauser and stopping him.
It's so lazy to only read/listen to a file in which she says in English that "Leon might be useful to her plans" (this is way more nuanced in the Japanese original of Ada's Report), and ignore everything that was SHOWN in the game: every effort she made to ensure that Leon could rescue Ashley, remove the parasite from his and her bodies, and escape from that hell-island.
The jet-ski she left for their escape was ALREADY there before she was captured by Sadler (or you think she arranged it while she was caught?). Leon having to intervene and save her from Sadler WASN'T her plan. It WASN'T her plan to take the sample from Leon's hands. She wanted to help him get out of there with Ashley and she guaranteed he could do so, she wanted to get the sample by herself and escape too while sending that hell to kingdom's come. But, because she chose to help Leon rescue Ashley right in front of Sadler, she ends up captured.
On her end, Mia never did anything minimally compared to that, and all of her "selflessness" or self-sacrificing actions involved a much, MUCH smaller scope than Ada's: wanting to help her husband and HERSELF is not at all comparable to saving a few dozens of unknown Chinese civilians. So no, they aren't "cut from the same cloth". They don't come from the same place, nor do they share the same intentions or goals, and their contributions to the RE storyline are quite different.
iv) unknown true purpose (shades of grey)
lining up in the background
waiting for the crowd shot to be seen
in the shadow of the big screen
everybody begs to be redeemed. ⁕
In databooks, Ada is recurrently described as "a Chinese spy with extraordinary physical abilities, vigorous health and composed mind and spirit, capable of coping with grim situations and handling even the most difficult requests without losing composure". If we are paying attention to the storytelling ingame, however, we know that this isn't always the case: Ada did let her mask of unswerving emotional and physical strength fall and showed a very fragile side under strenuous circumstances a couple of times already.
Also, in these databooks, they often point out that "she has her own 'true purpose' and has FREQUENTLY betrayed organizations and clients to achieve it". Huh, we can AGAIN, by this only, see how completely different she's from Mia, who personally watched an entire family being driven to insanity by Eveline's hand.
Furthermore, in these databooks, it's often said that "this true purpose is still obscure and whether she truly cared for anyone or simply used her charms to manipulate people that crossed paths with her isn't ever clear". If people are willing to be open-minded and exercise their text comprehension skills, though, they'll see that in multiple occasions of emotional confrontation it has been established time and time again that yes, Ada DOES care. She wasn't capable of shooting Leon and there has been a couple of other times that failing to choose a cool, sociopathic calculation and pragmatical demeanour over empathy and humanity towards others has put her in harms ways: nonetheless she still chose it.
v) positive impact
I'm gonna break the cycle
I'm gonna shake up the system
I'm gonna destroy my ego. ⁕
To this point, RE's plot systematically leads us to believe that Ada has been covertly acting behind the scenes of multiple biological incidents COLLECTING INFORMATION (the job of a spy, who would've thought! lmao), that is valuable to numerous organizations, companies, groups and different contexts, but at the same time of allegedly offering to handle this knowledge for the right price to the big players involved with bioterrorism and clandestine trading of bioweapons, she's also working to sabotage said players.
This is evident throughout the franchise: she intended to hurt Umbrella's business. She outwitted and deceived Wesker multiple times. She even undermined Simmons, someone who was in a position of power in the US government and actively using that position to lead bioterrorist ventures on the parallel side.
There's no concrete evidence or hint as to what she does with the information she collects, and for all purposes and effects, I can presume that she's gathering this knowledge to assist in the discovery of countermeasures and vaccination studies. I might as well argue that she is a Chinese spy who is working against European and North-American capitalism and the imperialism that creates such monsters like the biochemical and bioweapons industry and that her real objective is to dismantle the market for bioweapons and bioterror supported mainly by the USA (see: Simmons and The Family).
That is, as long as it is unclear what her true purpose is, I have the freedom to surmise whatever the heck I want and that all of what she's been doing was for the sake of the greater "good" - and I'll even have canon moments to support this reasoning as it's clear that she regularly sabotages her customers (customers that are unquestionably established as playing for the "evil" side, with perverse intentions) - throughout the franchise. She did this on RE2, RE4, RE6 and Damnation. It's there, transparent in canon, people just choose to ignore it.
She laughs in the face of whoever she's talking to by the end of Damnation, saying she doesn't intend to deliver the Plaga; she scoffs at Simmons; she betrays Wesker and kills Krauser. She had been sabotaging Wesker for so long, that he sent Krauser to be the main agent in the mission in Spain, and Ada was just a "side effect" that he didn't have in control and had to keep an eye on, so he ordered Krauser to keep tabs on her. It's not a mutually beneficial dynamic. Ada doesn't want Wesker to succeed, she despises him; this is clear in the games in which they interact. There are even files that indicate that she was trying to double-cross and get in the way of his plans for at least 2 years before Spain, and he was constantly catching up with her. See here and here.
On her end, Mia was employed by and consciously working for a criminal syndicate.
vi) a (secretly) helping hand
oh, I'm a master pretender
just felt more alone
the further I'd go
but I'll stick around
I'll be your master defender
yeah, I'll stick around. ⁕
Ada approached characters such as John Clemens and Luis Sera, and both had a canonical intention to, in addition to putting an end to their connections with the criminal companies and organizations they've been working for, also expose and denounce them for their crimes. It's in this context that Ada comes into contact with them. And why is that?
Check John's background: he had made up his mind about disclosing Umbrella's crimes to the public. Check Luis' background: Ada went to Spain to assist in his extradition since he feared for his own life if he resolved to turn his back on the cult of Los Illuminados, and also dreaded the consequences of the liberation of Las Plagas on an international scale.
Keep in mind that Ada handed over to Wesker a USELESS Plaga sample. Wesker only got the sample currently circulating in the underground market because he went after Krauser's body. We don't know what Ada did with the master Plaga sample she obtained. We only know from Ada's Report and the Plaga Recovery file that she didn't deliver it to Wesker, and he needed to go out for a plan B to get it.
Even the G-Virus sample that fell into the hands of the clandestine business, it's possible to argue that Ada's involvement in it was flimsy, since Simmons CANONICALLY made over a thousand laboratory tests in Sherry, and, as we know, he was a leading figure in bioterrorism and bioweapons trading with the aid of his position in the US government.
But, guess what, Ada clearly is a non-white character with obvious Chinese heritage and Mia is white, so of course, OF COURSE, someone can so nonchalantly affirm that Ada, this "vile bitch", is somehow WORSE than Mia. The same Mia who watched the Bakers being destroyed. Right.
Also: trying to validate one's point by claiming anything related to the misogyny present in RE franchise, while IN THE SAME BREATH AND TWEET reducing Ada's entire character arc to that of "a sociopathic bitch cured by the magic dick of her love interest" is supposed to be a joke, right? No, really. Joke.
conclusion and a word against misogyny
we are waiting on a telegram to
give us news of the fall
I am sorry to report
dear Paris is burning after all
we have taken to the streets
in open rejoice, revolting
we are dancing a black waltz
fair Paris is burning after all. ⁕
To any Ada fan that has been reading this so far: PLEASE, I ask to consider refraining to use the "oh yes, Ada did some bad shit, bUT" take to defend the character because that isn't sustained by canon in RE, lmao. She didn't do anything evil that had an indisputable bad impact on the plot and other characters arcs. For one, I myself do love some villains, but that isn't the case with Ada.
She did do some unconventional shit yes, since she's a morally GRAY character and an anti-heroine, but by the end of the day, each and every action of hers had a positive impact on the journey of other characters and main plot. Just pay attention to it.
Like idk man, Black Widow, Elektra Natchios, Scarlet Witch and Black Cat from Marvel, Catwoman from DC, Yennefer from The Witcher (some pop culture examples that come to mind).
Saying that this is an "extremely selfish prototypal bad bitch except when it comes to the magical redeeming dick of her love interest" it's a grotesque reduction of a complex female character, and, in its attempt to critique the misogyny present in RE's franchise an expression of misogyny in itself.
Remember: Ada has actions and impact on the franchise ASIDE and IN ADDITION to her romantic involvement with Leon.

How do you feel about an AU Chreon, Leon's 9 months pregnant and has been kidnapped, And Chris comes to save him but he going into labor... and their B.O.W's (I got the idea from some movie I've seen about a deaf girl and her mom going into labor in the bathroom... I can't remember the name of it, but it's good) Sorry this is so long, I hope you enjoy it :)
(Yeah, I’m not really good at that kind of stuff and that movie made me a bit uncomfortable so...
I have a preview of an upcoming fic if that makes up for it?)
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
And yet, here he was, in a hospital room with a peeved and annoyed Omega. The peace was over and the old Leon was back, glaring at Chris as he held their son, feeding the baby. He couldn’t read Leon as easily as he could before, the Omega’s body language a bit more difficult to decipher than before. Leon’s eyes were obviously angry, but at the same time, it looked like the scowl he always wore.
The doctors and nurses fluttered in and out of the room, checking on Leon and the baby, offering to fetch Leon food and running tests just to make sure both the mother and child were in perfect health. They acknowledged Chris as well, of course, asking if he needed anything and how he felt about being a new father.
“You two must be so happy!” One of the nurses gushed, “Congratulations!”
Leon merely hummed in reply, not looking Chris in the eye at the moment and instead focused on the little television at the foot of the bed, watching whatever it was that they had put on for them. Either way, he couldn’t look Chris directly in the face without wanting to punch him in it. The nurses and doctors finally gave them privacy, congratulating them once more before closing the door behind them, going out to tend to the other patients.
It was quiet, neither speaking to the other. Chris cleared his throat, trying to get Leon’s attention, but the Omega deliberately ignored him. Ollie cooed as he fed from his mother, Leon gently pulling him off to burp him. Chris watched intently, making sure Leon didn’t try anything that would end up hurting the little baby. Or maybe he was watching out of his own paranoia, to make sure Leon didn’t try to pull something that would end up hurting Chris.
“So…” Chris began, “Ollie is absolutely perfect.”
Leon raised his brows for a moment, but said nothing in reply, rocking the baby in his arms slowly. His attention was focused solely on the little one, pretending Chris wasn’t right there in his space. He was afraid he might do something he might regret if he looked up at the elder.
Chris sighed, “You’re mad at me.”
“You think?” Leon asked with a dark chuckle, “Boy, I can’t imagine why!”
“Hey! You can’t be mad at me! I wasn’t the one who assisted an international terrorist!” Chris hissed.
“She was a key fucking witness, you Fuckwit!” Leon argued, “You let the actual terrorist walk free and then had me fucking facilitated! And then, you fucking took me to your home and fucking took advantage of me!"
“One: Ada has been involved with numerous terrorist organizations and worked with the likes of Wesker and Neo-Umbrella. You could have apprehended her at any time, but each time you let her walk after you two exchanged goo-goo eyes and played Patty-Cake! Two: Simmons is clean, we found nothing. Three: You had yourself facilitated! That was on you!” Chris hollered, the commotion disturbing Ollie’s nap and making the baby cry loudly, "And I took you home because no one else would-!"
Before they could go any further, another nurse came back with Leon’s lunch, both Chris and Leon freezing and looking at the nurse. The man apologized for interrupting them, asking if everything was alright in here. Cold blue orbs met equally cold brown briefly, exchanging angry looks as Chris gave a nod, and a faux smile, telling the nurse that everything was just peachy. They were just having a conversation...a very loud conversation and had accidentally woken the baby from his nap.
The nurse beamed, setting the tray of food down on the little side table next to Leon’s hospital bed. Leon gave his own faux smile, noticing the nurse examining him. The man canted his head, asking Chris if Leon was one of those facility Omegas. He recalled Chris mentioning it prior to the baby’s birth, saying that Leon was one and had been prepared for these kinds of things.
“Oh...yeah. He is.” Chris confirmed, “Why? Is there something wrong?”
The nurse looked to Leon again, the Omega clearly confused and annoyed, “I don’t know...but aren’t those types of Omegas supposed to be...happy and sunshine and rainbows twenty-four-seven? Leon seems a bit more...doom and gloom. During the birth, he seemed a tad...feral.” The nurse explained.
Chris scoffed, “What? No! He was in pain! Of course he seemed feral! Birth isn’t exactly a ticklish process! He’ll be fine once I get him back home! Right, Leon?”
Leon looked between the nurse and Chris, giving an even bigger smile and a nod, looking more unhinged than friendly, “Absolutely! I am absolutely ecstatic about the birth of our precious baby boy! I cannot wait to go back to my Omega duties and care for my mate and child!”
The nurse raised a brow, a bit disturbed at the unnatural smile Leon wore and the overly happy and kind of robotic tone that Leon spoke with. He merely shook his head, mentally saying that maybe he was just a bit too tired due to the long shift. He apologized for his prodding and congratulated them on the birth of their child before excusing himself from their hospital room.
Chris gave Leon a look, “Yeah...I think that was definitely convincing. Not at all suspicious…” he said sarcastically.
“Oh, fuck off.” Leon said with a sigh, digging into his lunch.
________________________________________________________________
Leon and Ollie were kept overnight, Chris not leaving their side for even a second. Leon asked exactly what had happened between now and China, saying that his memory had been really fuzzy after China. He could only minimally remember the facility, up until a certain point. And then it was nothing but painful white noise, drawing a blank.
Chris held Ollie as he contemplated telling Leon the truth. He then told him what had happened without going too in depth with the details, saying that Ada Wong and Neo-Umbrella had been disposed of, Ada having been killed by suits in a helicopter and the facilities in the gulf had been taken care of. Piers had been lost in the process...thanks to Ada's pet project, but they had been in the process of looking for him, saying that it was possible that he could still be alive. Or at least locate a body so his family could have a body to bury in New England.
Then, there had been news that Leon had gone "feral" and due to his behavior, the courts and DSO had facilitated him. Helena had been incarcerated for assisting Leon and Ada in the attacks and agents within the DSO had been arrested as well for helping and colluding with Neo-Umbrella operatives, including Ingrid Hunnigan for assisting Helena and Leon after Tall Oaks.
Leon listened intently, feeling sick to his stomach at the news. Christ...he failed Helena, Hunnigan, Adam, the people of Tall Oaks...and even Ada. Christ, how had Simmons gotten away with all of this? Why would Ada do this? Wasn't she above all that?
"As for the facility bit...they had me fill out paperwork and then made me wait two to three months until you were "Fixed" and showed up at my doorstep all Stepford Housewife out." Chris explained, "What do you remember happening?"
Leon tried to remember but grunted, holding his head in pain. He tried...he really did, but he only had small flashes of memory, the sound of a machine, a loud whining sound...bright fluorescent lights...almost like...Christ! Why the Hell did his head hurt so much? Why couldn't he remember?
"I don't know...I can't remember…" Leon admitted, "Head hurts like a bitch to try…"
Chris hummed, "That might be due to the electro shock therapy they put you through while you were there." He explained, "You showed up with these marks on both of your temples, and Dr. Policki said that it was all part of your treatment."
"Yeah, cause that's legal…" Leon replied sarcastically, "So...when can I go home?"
"You and Ollie will be dismissed tomorrow morning if all the tests look good and you feel good enough to do so." Chris explained.
"And what about you?" Leon asked, wondering if the Alpha had previously understood what Leon had been implying.
Chris caught on, "You don't have an apartment to go back to...or a job. They ransacked the apartment and your office...you live with me now for a reason." He reminded him, "Legally, and I hate to be the one to tell you this, I own you."
"I'm not property." Leon growled, "I should be able to come and go as I please."
"Not anymore." Chris pointed out, "Not after all the shit you've been involved with. You were considered a threat to the public...hell, you're technically still a threat now that the hypnosis wore off. The government stripped you of everything and declared you feral."
Leon scoffed and shook his head at Chris, asking the man if he was serious. Chris only gave him a look, saying that he was dead serious and Leon wasn't going anywhere unless he had an escort or Chris was with him. He was lucky to be allowed to go outside at all. Leon argued that he wasn't a threat...because he didn't have anything to do with the Tall Oaks incident. Yes, he shot the president, but the man had already turned by the time he did so, and he even hesitated when he did so. That it was Simmons who was behind everything.
Chris shook his head, waving Leon off, "Leon, enough." He said sternly, "The BSAA and the DSO have their evidence that you and Agent Harper colluded with Ada Wong and caused all of this. From Edonia, to Tall Oaks."
Leon narrowed his eyes, "What...the Hell is Edonia?" He asked, sounding genuinely confused.
Chris sighed and shook his head again, "I don't want to talk about it. Not now."
"Why? How can I be responsible for any of that if-?"
"Enough!" Chris repeated, "I don't...just, for once in your life, shut up. Please."
"No! You're accusing me of something I didn't do! I was arrested for shit I had no involvement in and now you, a man I thought I could trust, won't even let me explain myself!" Leon protested.
"What is there left to explain?" Chris asked, "We have all the evidence. The DSO does too and you've already been convicted, done your time and now you're serving your sentence. Just stop before you make things worse for yourself."
Leon let out an over exasperated growl of frustration, choosing to shut up and sit back in the bed. He crossed his arms and merely glared up at Chris. The Alpha gave a sigh and relaxed in his seat, looking from Ollie to the Omega, watching Leon.
This wasn't going to be smooth sailing from here on out.

Text
for reasons unknown, reasons that escape her beyond any hope of remembrance, Leon calling her name always freezes her in her tracks and this is no different. she stills without thought, eyes finding him immediately and what Ada knows as relief floods her. you're okay. that is the main thought which crosses her mind and after weeks of not knowing why this one person chased her thoughts without reprieve, she had learned the answer.
she says nothing at first, choosing to let him speak. something about it felt necessary. different than the banter and aimless back and forth she saw from eyes that did not belong to her. there's parts of us that are missing. her gaze drifts to the light within his hand and something pulls. ah. how fitting. they had each found what the other lost, like something out of some silly television show or novel but nothing about this felt make believe. it felt quite the opposite.
like years of a dance was finally reaching the climax and there was no way to stop it.
" You were always terrible when it came to listening to me." not when it counted, never when it counted. and maybe trusting her belonged in that category now despite her every action saying otherwise. but she had seen it.
a kiss that wasn't just something throw away. the reluctance in letting her fall, even after everything. the goodbyes that always came with a tinge of longing. the dedication in still doing what he could to save her. even going so far as to draw his gun against someone considered a friend in her defense.
Tumblr media
for once, there is no cat and mouse here, no coy words. he was right-- whatever he held....it meant something to her, for why else would she feel this strange hole deep inside? it aches in an unfamiliar way, an ache tied to him. her own hand is offered forward, it too holding the warm light of something that maybe she's always known but never chose to acknowledge. until now. it's a choice she makes when her hand touches memories that once belonged to her, the light fading as what was once lost is returned and that ache in her chest is finally silenced. there is nothing loud about it, nothing that would give her any shock. she has known. she has known for a long, long time now the reason why she goes to such lengths for Leon, no matter the risk to herself.
her eyes find his again and for once, she takes a moment to find the right words. she has only one chance to say this. for once, Ada decides that the truth is what Leon will have. " Against all reason, I do. " the hand which reclaimed her memories comes to find a place against his palm. " I spent the last few weeks wondering why you were so important, trying to figure out what the reason could be but even without these memories, I think I knew deep down. That despite everything, it was because I love you."
@spydress
"Ada...!" Leon knows this woman. It's hard to piece together exactly why; it feels like his memory is in shambles. How does he know her? Where had they met?
He can't focus on any of it, but there's one thing he does know. She's important to him. And he's not about to let her walk away without telling her how he feels. Not this time.
"I heard the message about what's happened. I know there's parts of us that are missing. And while I don't know what you've lost..." He closes his eyes with a sigh. He's never been good at this sort of thing-- a corny one-liner comes more easily than a candid discussion of feelings. But this is too important to mess up.
"I think I found something that's yours." He offers it forward, a gentle hand careful with precious memories that aren't his own.
What he'd seen from it was enough to give him pause. All things she had seen with him, and yet his own memory of that time is filled with gaps. A night on the run, a kiss, a train... a ruined village, and all of their many goodbyes. The memory had played out scenes he'd never known about; Ada and Wesker, talking about Krauser. In every scene he was shown, she was looking out for him, whether he knew it or not.
"I know you have no reason to believe me, but I think--" (I'd like to think) "--that these mean something to you."
Tumblr media
"Even when I can't be sure of myself, I'm sure that I can trust you. What about you, Ada? Do you trust me?"
