Despite different games being assigned each day, it all felt the same — as if you had just stepped inside this odd room, surrounded by strangers that held far too many similarities with you. You couldn’t count the amount of times you flinched or teared up as you watched and heard bullets tear people apart, how their strangled cries escaped in a last ditch effort to somehow convince the ruthless guards to spare them. You nearly screamed yourself when blood hit your cheek, tainting the already sweaty area — which you gingerly cleaned up the moment you got time to.
You somehow survived, in just the nick of time too. You wondered if you had any right to be happy for your victory, or you should be remorseful for all the lives lost today. You pondered it for a complete moment before deciding doing so was useless, and not impertinent to your current situation.
Getting out with enough money was of the upmost importance, nothing more and nothing less.
Which is why you were quick to settle into bed the moment the opportunity arose, slipping out of your socks and jacket, pulling the blanket up over yourself, and shutting your eyes. The world around you seemed to cease — aside from the old man’s snoring beside you — your body melting into the mattress. Sleep was the only comfort you could afford to cling to in this situation, anything else was an unnecessary distraction.
Including the one that stood infront of you, taking form as a purple-haired devil.
You never intended to get entangled with any of the other contestants. You could smile and cheer together, but it wasn’t a secret how quickly that relationship could turn sour. Mixing any type of deeper attachments just seemed like a bad idea.
But you fucked up horribly, one thing leading to another, with you in the arms of a man named Thanos, who said just the right words at the time.
You promised yourself that one time was it, you wouldn’t slip up again. You couldn’t afford to slip up anyway.
“Thanos.. go away.” You murmured, courteous of the other contestants around you. You wondered if the two of you were the only ones awake.
Through the dimmed room you could spot Thanos tilting his head, elbow pressing against your bed as he leaned closer.
“C’mon don’t be like that.. just checking on you.”
You rolled your eyes, growing more frustrated by the minute. You desperately wanted sleep- actually, you needed it. You refused to suffer the next morning, especially since your life was literally on the line. You adjusted your pillow, basically staring daggers into the man.
“I’m fine, now, go to your own bed—“
“And.. I’m also cold.”
You blinked rapidly, nearly slapping that stupid smile right off his face. You decided to turn your back to him, ignoring that soft sound of disapproval he released.
“Wear your jacket or something.. hell— steal your friend’s blanket. Just let me sleep.”
You chose to ignore the second sound he released, which seemed to be an unusually pitiful whine, mixed with an obnoxious groan. You wanted to tell him off for his volume, but decided not to— trying to seem as stern as possible so he could finally leave you alone.
But Thanos wasn’t the type to let up, something you quickly learned the moment you met him. Seeing as his fingers began to graze your blanket, rising closer just so his lips were hovering over your ear.
“But you’re right here.. can’t we share some warmth until morning? You wouldn’t want me to freeze, right?”
Thanos’s words were tempting, as usual. Whether you liked to admit it or not, he knew just what to say. Which is why you called him a devil, a sickening demon with that silver tongue.
You bit the inside of your cheek, desperately trying to fight mind over matter. Not only was this bad for your sleep, you were also at risk for breaking some unknown rule. And if you got shot over cuddling, you would definitely haunt this place like a vengeful spirit.
But in the end you gave in, the reason fleeting at the moment. You could only focus on the fact he would hopefully shut up when he got what he wanted. So, wordlessly, you brought up the blanket behind you; hearing his small giddy voice as he climbed in with you.
At least the man was nice enough to allow most of the blanket to cover you, the rest of your exposed self covered by his larger frame. Thanos made quick work of wrapping his arm around your waist, tugging you closer to him as his face found your neck.
“You have to leave before morning.”
Whether acknowledging you or not, the man just let out a hum, lips treading across your warm skin in the process. With a shiver you attempted to focus on sleep, admitting to yourself that the extra warmth was comforting. It also allowed you to truly relax, knowing your back was covered— literally.
Your hand found the back of his, fingers spreading along it as your eyes settled shut. You felt your self slipping in slowly, body growing heavier as that relaxation began to reach its peak.
Only to tumble down the moment you felt a thumb play at the waistband of your pants.
“Thanos..”
“Hm?”
You slowly turned your head, tight-lipped and squinting at him through the darkness. “Don’t fucking hm, me— what are you doing?”
The shit-eating grin that developed was telling, his thumb now slithering under your shirt and rubbing small circles into your skin.
“Not a thing.. yet.”
“We’re supposed to be sleeping!”
The man was quick to raise his free hand, placing a taunting finger to his lips. “Don’t wake the others Señorita, that’ll be just plain rude.” The circles on your skin continued, Thanos closer as his lips brushed against your own yet didn’t fully touch.
“This will help you sleep better. Erasing alll your worries in the blink of an eye.” He breathed, eyes flicking low as if attempting to see beneath the blanket. Instead his hand did the seeing for him, fingers breaching your pants and underwear; tips stroking your soft cunt. He couldn’t help the little twitch of a smile the moment he felt you release a strangled breath, using two long fingers to spread you open to his hand.
And when your lips parted to speak, his own covered them; a gentle kiss that caused your mind to grow dizzy. You couldn’t help your legs spreading, hand wrapping around Thanos’s wrist the moment you felt him at your clit. He rolled his thumb so perfectly, applying delicious pressure to the little bud that caused you to see stars.
The moment you needed to breathe you regretted leaving his lips, seeing as you struggled to keep your voice down. He wasn’t even touching you much yet here you were, panting and releasing the softest moan. With a quick raise of your hand, you covered your mouth— teeth biting into the flesh the moment you felt a finger slowly sink into your wetness.
“Wish I could see..” The soft comment made you groan softly, hips rising the moment he began to piston his finger. Within moments a second was joining, scissoring you open and plunging deeper then your own fingers could. Your eyebrows knitted close, the pain of your bite washing away with each thrust of his digits.
“Thanos.. please..”
“Oh no.. keep your voice to yourself— I wouldn’t want anyone else to hear how pretty you sound.”
As usual his words held such a teasing tone, face moving back to your neck to kiss and bite gently. Even with his small request the man wasn’t making the situation any easier, especially when his thumb moved right back to your sensitive clit; rubbing those same dizzy inducing circles.
You felt way too good right now, your body practically shaking with how much you struggled to keep in. The thought of anyone waking up right now with you in this state — under the mercy of a certain purple-haired, tattooed rapper — was a thought you couldn’t even imagine without your heart pounding with anxiety.
The best thing to do would be to push him off before things progressed. You hadn’t a clue how far he wanted to take this, nor did you think it would end in time for the lights to cut on. And Thanos wasn’t a creep, he would listen to you the moment you expressed actual discomfort from the situation. But you weren’t, that pain you felt all day, that anguish; did truly wash away in seconds just from the flick of his fingers.
The thrusts against your velvety, soaked walls were perfect— your eyes rolling to find your skull the moment the ferocity increased. A metallic taste invaded your mouth from how bad you were biting yourself, but you didn’t care; it was a concern for morning [Name], not horny [Name] who was currently being cared for by the hottest contestant in this god forsaken place.
“Oh, all this clenching— you’re close aren’t you? Can barely get my fingers out.”
The smile in his speech was obvious, breath fanning against your skin as he urged you more and more; curling his fingers just right to hear your muffled sounds peak into a small squeal.
Your nails dragged across his tattooed hand, feeling it flex with each movement of his fingers. Your mind was growing cloudy, barely being able to register the words that were being pressed right against your ear.
“How about I get a taste, huh? Wanna come all in my mouth, mama.. it’ll be such an easy clean up.”
Before you could even think to speak Thanos was pulling his hand out from within you. You had little time to protest when you felt him grabbing your blanket, pulling it over his body as he crawled down your own. Your eyes slowly widened, realizing his words and actions; a new sheen of sweat finding your skin. Your nerves were on fine at this point, inner mind screaming to tell him to do anything else but that.
However, the moment you felt him pulling down your pants and his lips finding your pretty cunt, all hope was lost. The back of your head quickly found your pillow, hand going right back to your mouth to bite down even harsher than before. His tongue exited his mouth in a long stride, gliding across your wet center, and parting you easily.
Thanos created similar ministrations with the tip of his tongue like his thumb, circling your bud and slowly pulling it between his lips. There, he began to suck, the sound noisy but muffled by your blankets and other’s snoring.
Muffled gasps pushed against your skin, hips rising and legs closing around his head; bringing him even closer to you. The peak that was steadily approached seemed to pick up speed far too quickly, your mind turning to mush.
No more were you number so-so, victim to madmen and their sick games. No, you were simply [Name], moaning wantonly with little care for the environment around you.
Your other hand slithered under the blanket, finding his hair and tugging the soft tresses; feeling them stick between the gaps of your fingers. Shamelessly you rubbed against his face, desperate for that sweet release. Your pussy convulsed with each struggled breath you took, stars impeding your vision as you got closer and closer.
You felt it before you heard it, Thanos’s sweet urges right into your pussy. His wet words of make me a mess, pretty girl— don’t hold back on me now, causing you to tip over the line.
His mouth latched to you, drinking up your release as if you tasted better than any drug within his cross. It didn’t help he was practically praising your taste, a sloppy groan being delivered right into your pussy. Gingerly, Thanos licked you clean, assuring not a single drop was left.
Only when the man was fully satisfied did he let up, climbing up from the blanket and popping his head out to look down at you.
“See, it helped— you can barely keep your eyes open right now.”
You released a soft breath, a mix of a chuckle and a sigh as you stared up at the man. “You gonna let me sleep now?” You spoke softly, watching his wet lips curl into a gentle smile.
“Of course. Good night, [Name].”

This cultural mechanism of denying humanity of certain individuals (most often villains) has a name. Rene Girard wrote about it in his book called The Scapegoat. I tried finding ANY reblog of this post which actually mentions this, but despite scrolling through at least half of reblogs, I couldn't find it, which means even if someone did point it out then it still went pretty much unnoticed.
We all know who or what a scapegoat is. It's that thing or that person, the root of evil, the source of chaos, the troublemaker, the trickster disrupting the long established safety and order (which is, ofc, the ultimate good). If you only get rid of the problematic individual, everything will be okay again. That's how it works. But there's a problem with it. There's never one scapegoat. After one comes another, and another, and another, till you get hundreds and thousands of them and you can't fit them in one neat grave or prison anymore. They keep coming and there will be more and more of them, this will never stop, because it's a cycle. A cycle of violence. If you really want for "things to be okay", you need to break that cycle, instead of finding YET another scapegoat, yet another villain to bury for all of our sins. By sacrficing another villain, another victim, another scapegoat on the altar of society, you only support the cycle to keep on going.
Yes, you heard me right. Villains are scapegoats. But victims ARE scapegoats as well. Anyone we forcefully silence and refuse to give agency to is the scapegoat. The homeless, the LGBT, the mentally different, any disabled people etc. Anyone who fits into a very broad category of "otherness". But here's the catch. Because this category is so broad it's very easy to become that "other". That's why people are willing to go to extreme lengths just to make sure no one sees them as "other". They will deny their disabilities, they will deny they're not like those "others", they will even deny their own struggles, just to fit into the safe mold of "normal". And if you silence yourself just because you're afraid you might be the next one victimized or villainized, you're also a scapegoat, btw. Your inner life and self-consistency is the sacrifice on the altar of society that doesn't care if you actually have a heart. All it cares about is for you to make sure you're "normal", which has a very murky definition too. Who's normal? The one who acts like the majority of others? The one who has the applause? (applause can be shortlived and depends on trends, it's dangerous, you're dancing on the edge). Every time we see someone as the "other" we judge, we're scapegoating them. Yes, all of us, by succumbing to our fear of being judged, contribute to this mechanism. Otherwise the seams of the society might fall apart and we can all turn against each other, we can rip apart the system, they warn us of anarchy, you might get killed in the middle of the street, there will be no police to guard the order, no prisons to keep the bad eggs away from you. Stay quiet, endure, it's for the safety of all of us.
No one should have to carry that weight of the whole world on their own shoulders. Not like this. But we do, every single day.
We're all capable of being bad people and often are. But we also all want to believe we're good. People think if someone didn't get love there's a reason of why they didn't receive it. That belief didn't come out of nowhere. It's internalized violence and judgemental mentality. You prefer to doom someone else as long as it saves yourself from being doomed. You're not only hurting others with it, but YOURSELF as well in the process. You get rid of your true empathy for others, you decide whose pain or suffering is the one "worthy" of acceptance and which is not and needs to be condemned. You can't afford that empathy for anyone else than you after a while, after all you live in constant, silent fear of "being next" if you just stop for a moment and look too long at the scapegoats buried around you. And what you fail to see is that you're also a scapegoat. If we all accept each other and ourselves as "others", if we're all just different people and no one is normal anymore, will this finally break the cycle?
You want to feel like a good person? Of course, we all do. But you can't achieve that if you're too afraid to look into the abyss/mirror and realize you also do bad things. You also need to redeem yourself. You can do better, but it's not easy. You know what's easy instead? Finding a scapegoat and blaming them for their own misery. Literally requires no work, the world will applause you and all you need to do is repeat same words after others. The mechanism works like a perpetuum mobile at this point, it will mostly do this job for you. Just take a stand, deem the villains, blame the victims, ignore the struggles and pain of others.
But here's the catch. If you're too cold, you're also gonna be judged and called a psychopath. That's also a no-no, you're becoming the unacceptable "other" again. You have to show, in specific, allowed circumenstances, that you feel sorry for others. That you know how to choose the "right" side. That you understand "good" needs sacrfices and sometimes you're even expected to cry for them. And if you see those sacrfices as not-human "others", it's easier to accept it all.
Many people claim how scary it is to face certain truths, like "victims can turn into villains too", but the real truth no one wants to face is actually this: we allowed this to happen. We allowed the villains to be formed, all of us. Every time we engage in judgemental actions, every time we police someone dealing with their pain "in wrong way", every time we call someone "born evil". Every time we point a finger and call someone a villain, a victim, a barbarian, the other. By doing that we trap them in endless world of pain and suffering and abuse. They also want to be out of that cycle, but we keep trapping them, by silencing them and adding our own narrative on top. They suffer for our sins. Because they're our scapegoat, the sacrifice we made to keep on going, thinking how good this world is and how much worse it could have been, just look in the right places. Just don't look at the scapegoats too long. They corrupt. Maybe their otherness is even contagious, so stay as far away from them as possible.
You're allowed to be mad about this, btw. Anger is a neccessary emotion, it points at injustice done to you. But the society wants you to throw that emotion away and supress it, so you're tamed and silenced. It might even create a "safe space" to vent it out, by encouragig you into physical activities or taking part in some entertainment, so you can lose your steam in a way that doesn't challenge the system. It's a distraction. (the point here isn't to condemn sport or popculture btw, it just serves as an example, ok?)
All communities work like this. We're all trapped in endless cycle of violence. We bury endless scapegoats under our communities, they become our foundations. After all, nothing unites different people better than finding a common villain, it's us (the good) vs them (the evil). Wait, did I just say "different people"? But we're supposed to be all the same! No, that's a myth. We were all always different. We just have to choose who is "more different than others", so we can unite ourselves against them.
You know what that reminds me of? "We're all equal. But some are more equal than others". Animal farm was about power structures. By accepting easy scapegoats, by abiding to this mechanism, we support the power system that oppresses us. Think about it. Our civilisation is build on this and it would not thrive the way it did without the scapegoats.
And all of you blaming christianity for this instead, you need to understand one thing. What Jesus taught was actually the reverse of scapegoating. “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her”. This is literally Jesus telling people "you all have sinned, so why are you judging them if you don't judge yourself?". What you all mean by christian/puritanist beliefs is how christianity got distorted and institutionalized into a power abusing system called religion. Swallowed up by what it tried to fight against. Always identify the actual source of abuse, instead of doing more scapegoating. I'm in no way inclined to defend christianity (not in the form it exists now), but also if we keep on muddling the truth we will always make the same mistake, so, always dig deeper to avoid it. Thank you.
not to post even more Villains Discourse on main but it really bugs me how people read giving villains tragic backstories as inherently excusing their actions and/or demonizing trauma survivors.
the actual message of Tragic Villains is (almost) always “people who are never taught or given any healthy, constructive outlets for their emotions will often find unhealthy, destructive outlets.” it’s that people who are traumatized and never learn how to cope with that trauma can become a danger to themselves and others. the message isn’t “trauma makes you evil!!!!” or “genocide is okay if you’ve been sad before!!!!” it’s “people need compassion and help to recover from trauma instead of becoming increasingly angry and harming themselves and others in the process.”
this site takes an alarmingly behaviorist and punitive approach to everything and it’s literally the most annoying thing. y’all have this concept that “if we just punish people hard enough, if we just scare them enough, if we just make them feel guilty enough.” that people just Do Bad Things Because They Do Bad Things, I Guess, and Because We Didn’t Threaten Them And Shame Them Enough. but humans are an innately social species. at our very core, we need compassion and kindness. we need healthy relationships with other humans.
you can keep looking at traumatized villains and being like “haha this dumb pathetic sadboi thinks murder is okay because his parents died” but as a survivor myself, unaddressed/untreated trauma absolutely can make you ragey and destructive. i was lucky enough to have support and eventually get the treatment i needed. but it’s not hard at all for me to imagine how, if that hadn’t been the case, that could’ve been me. obviously not on a movie-villain scale like murder or war crimes, but it’s so irritating as someone whose trauma has always manifested as anger to watch people on this site be like “this is just bad writing!!! real survivors/good survivors don’t end up like that the writers just hate survivors and want the audience to condone murder!”
#I have more thoughts about redemption boundaries consent prisons and power in general#but I just wanted people to know about the scapegoat mechanism and the cycle of violence so this post will have to do without#just please we have to understand one distinction here: just because someone hurt us doesn't mean we have to excuse that person#you need to draw that boundary but you can do that without scapegoating#and you don't actually have to forgive anyone#we don't have to constantly scapegoat someone in fear of not being scapegoated ourselves#we can understand someone did a bad thing because they were coping in bad way#and at the same time not villainize them and condemn them and deny them humanity and silence them#yet we're allowed to not want them anywhere near us at the same time#this can coexist. that's what boundaries are for!#scapegoat#cycle of violence#rene girard#power structures#anthropology#anthropology of otherness#philosophy#sounds like controversial conspiracy theory post? I'm not actually sorry for this#I'm used to the fact that lots of philosophical subjects sound like conspiracy to people lol#I could write whole thesis about scapegoating in cultures#there is just so much material and angles to it#all I did here was explain the very basic mechanism of the cycle of violence and how it feeds on itself#it's just the tip of the iceberg#I couldn't even touch on how the scapegoats get dehumanized for the sake of the system#yes victims are dehumanized as well which is why people try to change the discourse and use words like “survivor” instead of “victim”#to reclaim the human status back#in summary: you choose people who stand out; ostracize them; and in time of crisis put the blame on them#no one will defend them but instead unite against them; the conflict gets resolved by cutting the scapegoat off#everyone is happy again (besides the scapegoats ofc)#I'm sure you saw this process repeated to no end (video games? blamed for making kids violent; abuser? provoked by the victim etc.)

𝚁𝚒𝚍𝚍𝚕𝚎 𝚁𝚘𝚜𝚎𝚑𝚎𝚊𝚛𝚝𝚜:
You felt a hand smack the back of your head. “Must you always look so grim? You’ll wilt my roses if you keep staring at them that way!”
It wasn’t the roses Riddle was worried about, but he’d rather die than admit otherwise. No matter how many parties and events he prepared, how many gifts he showered you in, you always looked on the verge of tears, and the housewarden was beginning to lose his patience. Riddle stepped in front of you, in all his 5'2 glory, and held his head high. “Pay attention. I demand that, from now on, you attempt to improve your smiling skills.” You blinked once, twice. Was he serious? A silly question, really. Riddle was always serious. “Are you deaf? Go on, try it! And make sure it reaches your eyes, like so.” He gave you a fake grin that more resembled a pained grimace than anything else. The entire situation was so absurd that you couldn’t help but snicker and chuckle. The sound made butterflies go wild inside the boy’s stomach. He wanted to order time itself to freeze so he could capture that rare image of you on canvas. A smile, genuine this time, tugged on his lips. “Ah, there it is. Much better. I’ll keep in mind that you’re an easy one to amuse.”
𝙺𝚊𝚕𝚒𝚖 𝙰𝚕-𝙰𝚜𝚒𝚖:
It wasn’t flattering anymore. You were being forced to carry around entire pantries worth of snacks and bouquets of flowers as if it were your wedding day. And when you turned a corner to see Kalim, you’d have to quietly sneak away and pray he didn’t see you.
Because if he did, you’re in for at least a full hour of endless yapping. And then an invitation to hang out, which meant more yapping. Kalim knew you weren’t fond of it. Of him, perhaps. Even so, he couldn’t stop himself from buying that one flavor of soda you said you liked, or that cute teddy bear that reminded him of you. It’s not like he couldn’t afford it all. But one day, while handing you yet another handful of roses, he suddenly looked...insecure. “Hey, uh, by the way...” He averted his eyes and cleared his throat. “You know I’m just worried, right? I-I’m not trying to win any favors or whatever. You just look like you need some cheering up, I guess. You know, ‘cuz you’re always...frowning. Sorry, is it too much...?”
It was. But right then and there, looking at those puppy eyes, you realized that you didn’t mind.
𝙻𝚎𝚘𝚗𝚊 𝙺𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚜𝚌𝚑𝚘𝚕𝚊𝚛:
The first time you noticed it was when Leona turned around one day to find you standing behind him. He flinched. But it was a fast, subtle reaction, and he managed to play it off. But strange things kept happening: He would avoid walking past you on the corridors. He would shift uncomfortably in place when you’d enter a room. He’d actively avoid picking on you, to everyone’s surprise. Leona would usually love the opportunity to mess with a newcomer.
Suddenly, it dawned on you: he was scared. And the man himself confirmed it, because when you asked, he might as well have run off to hide. Leona tried to vehemently deny it, mostly by stuttering out insults and empty threats. But when it became clear you weren’t falling for any of it, the lion gave up. “Listen, y-you just...” He ran a hand through his messy hair and grunted. “You look creepy as hell, okay?! Is it my fault that you look like a goddamn ghost?”
The man pointed a clawed finger at your face and narrowed his eyes. “Don’t you dare spread this around, y’hear? Creepy or not, I can still snap you in half like a twig.” You nodded, but said nothing else. There was a beat of silence while you two kept eye contact. Leona’s expression shifted, and you thought he was about to back off in fear...
...but was that a blush on his cheeks?
Before you could comment on it, he used the finger he had been pointing at you to shove your forehead. “Stop staring at me with those big ol’ eyes!”
𝙼𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚎𝚞𝚜 𝙳𝚛𝚊𝚌𝚘𝚗𝚒𝚊:
Malleus had been watching you from afar. Someone else might have realized that that kind of behavior was inappropriate at best and creepy at worst, but the prince was too infatuated to care.
Then, one night, while you were out for some fresh air, he gathered enough courage to approach.
“Are you unhappy, human?” It was such a nuanced question, yet he asked it so casually. “You don’t have to share your struggles with a stranger, of course. But I see pain behind your eyes, and it bothers me.”
You did, in fact, not share. But you let Malleus stay. You kept finding each other outside, almost every night, and it was not a coincidence: a secretly scheduled date of sorts. He’d walk with you under the moonlight, in complete silence at first. Then, he began talking about his day, asking you about yours, going on tangents about his interests... His voice was soothing, it almost sounded like a lullaby. You thought you could fall asleep to it.
And you did, a few months later, while you were both sitting on a bench and Malleus spoke about this one book he had found interesting. Your head came to rest upon his shoulder, and your eyelids fluttered close. The prince only realized you were not listening anymore when a soft snore interrupted him. He smiled. Had that always been the issue? Were you simply tired, and it reflected in your appearance? It didn’t matter, not in that moment. In that moment...you looked happy.
𝙸𝚍𝚒𝚊 𝚂𝚑𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚍:
“Your eyes are so pretty... Have I ever told you that?” He had. Many times before, ever since you began dating and he managed to come out of his shell. Idia would make sure to remind you often: personally, through text, and you’d often catch him staring with a lovestruck expression, silently admiring your features. You couldn’t understand it. All your life, you’ve heard many adjectives directed at you, but none of them were exactly positive. Lifeless. Gloomy. Sickly. The fact that Idia insisted on complimenting you felt almost like a white lie, then. A way to make you feel better. When you voiced those concerns to him, his arms tightened their grip around you protectively. There was a beat of silence as Idia considered what to answer. “You know...People used to make fun of my smile a lot. Because of the sharp teeth. So I just...stopped smiling often, so no one could see it. But you find my smile cute, don’t you?”
You nodded. “Yeah, well, see what I mean? When I’m with you, I smile all the time, don’t I? We might look weird to others, but, between you and me...” He moved a strand of hair off your eyes with a lanky finger. ”...we’re the cutest.”
𝙰𝚣𝚞𝚕 𝙰𝚜𝚑𝚎𝚗𝚐𝚛𝚘𝚝𝚝𝚘:
“I just want to have a nice, civilized talk with them. What do you take me for, hm? A brute?”
Azul had been trying to pry the name of the person who made fun of your appearance off your lips for half an hour now. The thought of being indirectly responsible for someone being either beat up or cursed didn’t thrill you, so you refused to tell him. “What a miserable soul they must be if they can’t see your beauty...” Azul caressed your hair, looking genuinely disappointed. You knew these kinds of low insults got to him the most. “Saying you look lifeless, when you’re the person who brings life to my world. People can be so cruel, can’t they? Don’t listen to what they say, dear. I know best.” Evetually, you caved. You knew he wouldn’t drop the subject. And a few days later, Azul was walking around the corridors with his chin high and a big smile. When you asked what had happened...
“I just made the most wonderful deal!”

Vil used to pad of his index finger to gently apply the golden dust to your eyelid, his face scrunched in concentration. When he was done, he leaned back to take a good look at the finished product.
“Ah, much better!” He held your chin to have a better look at your painted face. “The light makeup did wonders for you. This shade of blush brought you back from the dead, darling, you look-” He stopped talking when you frowned. Vil couldn’t understand why at first. Were you not satisfied with his makeover? And then, he considered the possibility of you not wanting a makeover at all. That maybe he shouldn’t have said the makeup ‘brought you back from the dead’. Vil cupped your face between his hands, guilt tugging at his heartstrings. “Look at me, dearest. I...I didn’t mean it that way. You know I find you absolutely breathtaking, with or without makeup. In fact...it’s not your appearance I’m most concerned about.” His thumbs traced the eye bags under your eyes. “You don’t look healthy. Have you been sleeping enough? A-And you haven’t been skipping meals, have you? You should use some creams, too...” The housewarden reached for the wet wipes he had been using to clear off any mistakes. “Change of plans, dear. We’re having a spa day, complete with skin care and scented baths.”

Red | The Salesman
Pairing: The Salesman x fem!reader
Summary: After a tiring day, you're just trying to go home, but while you're waiting on your train, a handsome man in a suit stumbles on you.
Warning/s: betting, money in exchange for a game, slapping (on the face, you nasty), salesman trying to recruit you for the games, smoking cigarettes, people on the station being kind of weirded out, maybe some cursing (idk), reader is in debt, possible grammar and spelling mistakes
Author's note: So this is like the prequel to my story Russian Roulette, but it really doesn't matter whether you read that fic or this one first. You do you. I really love the request, btw. Hope you enjoy!
Request: hii can u make more stories in this story line between the reader n him? like i rlly wanna know what they were like tgthr before this situation since we r told they had smth tgthr at some point tyyyy
Part 2 here!!
The bench where I was sitting was quite cold, which, of course, wasn't surprising considering how cold it was tonight. My hand slightly shook as I wrapped my fingers around the lit up cigarette that I was smoking for who knows how long. My flimsy jacket that was wrapped around me did not bring exact comfort to me that I had hoped it would.
Shivering there, I sat as the announcer's voice rang around the train station, signaling that the train that I was waiting for to go home would be slightly delayed, forcing me to wait there for entire hour more than I should be waiting. It was already late and I was so done with today's day.
Trying to earn money was hard, especially when you're in a lot of debt. Being chased by the people who you owe money to, threatening to cut out your eyes, possibly even kill you in the end, wasn't fun either. You had to learn to sleep with one eye open. Constantly on edge, just like I was right now.
The job that I worked did not provide as much money as I needed it to. There was simply no way for me to earn enough money for food every day, to pay rent which I was already three months behind. My landlord was truly a fucking angel for letting me live in that house as long as I did, but I knew that that wouldn't last forever either. There was no way that I could afford to pay everything that was essential, let alone pay off my debts.
In frustration, letting out a deep, disappointed sigh, my hand slid into the pocket of my jacket, reaching for yet another cigarette and a lighter.
"Hello, miss."
I practically jumped from my seat, startled by a sudden voice next to me. I whipped my head around, finding the face that this voice belonged to.
Right next to me, smiling, was a very handsome man that looked like some kind of salesman. He was wearing a very expensive suit. His hair was as black as the night sky. His piercing eyes just as black. There was little to no facial hair, but that really suited him. He was very handsome and I quickly found myself surprised when I realized that he was actually talking to me.
"Can I talk to you?" He asked once he noticed how startled I was.
"I'm not a prostitute, sir." I said, sliding away on the bench further away from him.
"Don't worry, miss, it's not that." He chuckled gently, his eyes never leaving mine. "I just want to let you in on a great opportunity to win some money."
There was just silence for a while. I sad nothing all the while he kept looking at me.
"Um..." I looked at him and, for a while, just couldn't bring myself to speak up. "No, thank you."
"'No'?" He asked.
It seemed like I caught him by surprise, but after a little while I noticed something else in his eyes that I just couldn't seem to figure out. Some kind of amazement? Respect even? But there was definitely something that I couldn't label quite yet.
"There is definitely a catch." I smiled slightly. I would love to get some money, of course, but I know that it won't be that easy.
"Miss." The salesman smiled once again, his eyes surprisingly gently just like his voice as he spoke. "Would you like to play a game with me?
"Wha-What kind of g-game?" I found myself stuttering a bit. "Look, if this is some sort of sick perverted thing you're doing 'cause I swear if you try something, I am going to scream." I threatened, a newfound confidence overwhelming me.
He chuckled once more, "No, nothing like that, Miss."
All of a sudden, he quickly turned his face away from me as he reached to open his suitcase. I could swear that for a split second I saw him blush, but then I realized that I probably imagined it because there's no way. I mean, sure, he is very handsome, but the two of us are a whole world apart, too different from each other.
"I'm sure you've played ddakji before, right?" He spoke and I looked at the open suitcase that was resting between us.
There were a few piles of money on one side and two different colors of ddakji on the other side. Red and blue. I looked at him with surprise.
"You-You want me to play ddakji with you?" I asked, raising my eyebrow in question.
He nodded with a smile.
"For money?"
He nodded again, "Play a few rounds of ddakji with me and each time you win, I'll pay you a 100,000 won."
Damn.
I mean, sure, why not. I loved that game when I was a kid, and I didn't have a chance to play the game in what seemed like forever. Plus, if I win, I get money. It all seemed amazing, but then I realized what the problem with all of this could be.
"And what if I lose and you win." I asked, he continued to smile as he answered.
"Then you pay me 100,000 won."
"Sir, this is amazing and all, don't get me wrong." I gently said, "But I'm afraid that I don't have the money to pay you back."
"That is all right, miss." His smile unwavering. "We'll figure something else regarding that if it comes to it."
For a moment, I just sat there in silence, pondering the offer. But after a while I finally decided.
"Ah, sure," I sighed before matching his smile and meet his eyes, "Why not?"
"What color would you like to play as?" He asked me, taking both red and blue ddakji as I stood up. He followed me almost immediately.
"Red, please." I said and he smiled as he handed me the red ddakji.
As I reached for the red one that he was handing me out, our hands touched. For a moment we both froze, but then I quickly took the ddakji and moved away.
It was so strange. The feeling I got when I touched his hand. It was as if some sort of electricity went straight through me, forcing me to quickly move away due to the shock of it all.
He cleared his throat before extending his right hand, pointing to the floor, "You gotta first, Miss."
I nodded, and with that, he placed the blue ddakji on the ground, and I stood over it. I took a stronger hold of the red ddakji and stood up more straight as I glared at the blue ddakji. Goodness, I haven't done this in years, I thought to myself, letting out a shaky breath.
I took a deep breath.
I could feel his eyes on me.
I swang my arm behind my head before powerfully striking his blue ddakji. Apparently, I must have done something wrong because his blue ddakji moved but did not flip over. I let out a sigh, looking kind of defeated.
He stepped forward, grabbed his blue ddakji, and stood back up. I moved away, giving him more space, his eyes folowing my every move. Almost immediately, he swang his arm behind his head, slaming his blue ddakji on my red one, flipping it over with ease. I sighed as he turned to look at me, teasing smile making it's way on his face.
"So..." I spoke up, kind of unsure and slightly intimidated, "So what now? I lost."
"Don't worry about money." He spoke up, kind of surprising me with that one, "We'll discuss it at the end if that is okay with you, Miss?"
"Sure." I answered him, meeting his eyes.
His smile widened a little bit more as we, for a few moments, just stood there taking each other in. All of a sudden, he cleared his throat, snapping himself out of it.
"One more round?" He asked as he fixed his tie, I nodded, not saying a word.
Turns out, one round meant about five more. I lost every single round. It truly began to seem like luck wasn't on my side that day.
We got to the last round, the sixth one. I was getting annoyed, constantly losing. I took a deep breath. His blue ddakji stared at me, my red one locked in my hand. I flipped my ddakji over and decided that that was it. I swang my hand behind my head and delivered the most powerful swing yet. I stared at his blue ddakji and my red one as both of them flipped in the air before his blue ddakji landed on the cold floor. It flipped over... I won...
I couldn't help the laugh that escaped my lips as he gave me a little applause, smiling as I jokingly bowed.
"Wow," I chuckled, "I finally won the round."
"Well done, Miss." He chuckled lowly, but somehow so softly as he reopened his suitcase handing me 100,000 won. "As promised."
"Thank you," I said, taking the money, "but I lost like five times. Tell me, what can I possibly give you to make this even."
"How about you give me the pleasure of taking you out for dinner, Miss?" He spoke up almost shyly in a way that was so endearing, and even though it seemed like that look wouldn't fit him, it somehow did. "Only if you want to, of course."
"I..." I spoke up stuttering and blushing a bit, surprised by his offer, "I would love to."
After that interesting interaction, we went out to get dinner. I had a great time with him, and even though I hated to admit it, I started to like him. We talked on and on about random things. We were truly having fun and that made my day so much better.
Before separating, he gifted me a blood red rose, and he gave me a card that looked really strange. At the front of the brownish card was a circle, a triangle, and a square. I flipped the card over and saw what looked like a telephone number.
"Miss, there are other games like the one that we played where you can make even more money than you did. So much more." He started to explain, but his expression became different. His smile was gone and there was a sort of gloomy gaze in his eyes. That seemed to surprise him. "Think about it."
He stepped closer to me, looked me deep in the eyes before he started to slowly lean in. I found myself doing the same. Our lips met. We were just standing there, outside of the restaurant, rose in my hand, his hands on my face deepening the kiss.
As we parted ways, he told me that he hoped to see me again if I made it. Whatever that meant.
I took another look at the card that he gave me, staring at the number, not knowing that I will meet my childhood friend Gi-hun, not knowing what the games will do to both of us and to all the other people, not knowing the amount of money I was gonna win, not knowing that I will spend the next three years of my life chasing the man of my life, trying to haunt him down, not knowing how dangerous the last game that we'll play will be.

Hi! I adore your writing! Could I request Fiyero comforting a reader with a bad fear of thunderstorms. Maybe the reader hides the fact they have this fear until he finds them during one. Feel free to ignore.
Fears, and Comforts For Them
Fiyero Tigelaar x gn!reader
Trigger Warnings:
Summary: Fiyero never found himself questioning why you tended to make yourself scarce whenever a storm appeared on the horizon; that is, until he stumbled upon you during a particularly bad one.
{Thanks so much for requesting! I hope I did it justice!}
When the first rumble of thunder had curled across the sky on his walk back towards the dorms, Fiyero had thought nothing of it. Naturally, a few moments later, when the sky opened up above him, showering him in clear, cold water, it caught him by complete surprise.
He glanced up at the dark, turbulent clouds that suddenly taken over the sky for a long moment, before taking off for the dorms again, at a much faster pace as thunder and lighting began to crash down with more ferocity.
Inside, the main common room was dark, as if no one had been, (or been bothered) to turn on the lights when the storm began. Other than the dim light from outside, the only light in the room came from one of the smaller desk lamps from a corner table.
Fiyero could just make out the shape of you, hunched over the table, as he shucked off his now soaked jacket. He started making his way toward you, letting out a laugh, "Can you believe this weather? I was barely out there for a minute and I'm soaked through!"
You glanced up, barley meeting his eyes, and let out a forced chuckle, "Yea..."
Fiyero frowned, giving you a once over, "Darling- you're trembling... What's wrong?"
"I-" Another peel of thunder burst through the air, and you cut yourself off with a flinch.
Fiyero's face softened, understanding, "Oh darling..."
You buried your face in your hands, mumbling, "It's stupid-"
"It's not stupid," He said, kneeling beside your chair, and gently pulling your hands away from your face, "What can I do to help you, darling?"
Lighting flashed in the window, lighting the room harshly for a brief moment, and suddenly your thoughts were scattered, and you couldn't seem to draw a full breath, "I- I don't-"
"Hey, hey, look at me darling," FIyero reached up to cup your face, "Breathe. C'mon, breathe with me, alright?"
He took a nearly exaggerated, deep breath in, and you copied in him, in and out, for a few long minutes before either of you moved again. His thumb brushed back and forth across your cheek, gently, "How about this: we'll go back up to my room, and I'll get out of these wet things, and then you and I can cuddle up, and ignore this whole thing until it blows over, yeah?"
You swallowed thickly, before nodding, your voice coming out small, nearly drowned out by the next groan of thunder, "Yes, please..."
Fiyero took your hand, and soon enough you found yourself wrapped up in his blankets, head tucked close to his chest, so that you could hear his heartbeat- a steady, comforting rhythm.
One of your hands was all but knotted into the soft fabric of his shirt, fingers clenching with every new roar of thunder. But Fiyero's grip on you was firm and gentle all at once.
"'yero?"
"Yes darling?" His voice was soft as he shifted, pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
"Can you- can you tell me about your day? Or about Vinkus or- or- anything, really?"
He took in a breath, thinking for a moment, before beginning to speak quietly about his childhood. As the storm wore on, he continued, and you listened intently, until you swore you could hardly hear the thunder at all.

Butterfly, Fly Away (part one)
Aizawa feels out of breath. Despite the fact that he drove to the daycare center, it feels like he ran the whole way. He doesn’t run inside, but he does do an awkward half jog to get in there quickly without looking like some sort of lunatic.
The room, as expected, is a disaster. Kids are crying. Drawings have been torn up and thrown around, chairs have been overturned. Eri is at the center of it all, with an uninterrupted scream at the top of her lungs that he’s sure has lasted at least a full minute by the way her red face is slowly starting to show hints of purple.
Eri has been kicked out of another daycare.
She skips alongside him merrily as he walks back to the car with him, her little purple bag in one hand while the other holds her own pudgy little palm. You would think that she was a perfectly well behaved little angel if you saw her now, no traces left of her hurricane of an outburst mere minutes ago.
There was a familiar throbbing pain forming like a tight band around his skull.
Once they were in the car, Eri kicking her feet in her carseat and playing with the straps of her bag, Aizawa couldn’t help but spare glances at her in the rearview mirror when he stopped at all the stop signs on the way back to the high school. His daughter was the best, most important thing in his life. He loved her more than anything, no matter what. He just didn’t know what to do with her anymore.
As he parked in his designated spot, five minutes left of his lunch break, Eri hurriedly tried to unbuckled her carseat before Aizawa could get to her. It was a game she liked to play, despite the fact that her clumsy fingers hadn’t yet grown strong enough to fully press the big red button that released the clips. But Aizawa didn’t get out of the car to come around and unbuckle her yet.
“Hurry daddy!” she taunts, grunting as her fingers slip as they always do. “I’m gonna beat you this time!”
“What happened, Eri?”
She paused, looking up at him with those eyes that look almost too big for her head in the sweetest way. She looked unphased. Unashamed, unapologetic.
“I didn’t like it there,” was the simple answer she gave. “Daycare is stupid.”
“But honey,” he sighed, “you know that you have to go. And don’t use the word stupid, please.”
The little girl starts to shift uncomfortably in her seat, no longer trying to unbuckle her restrictive straps, but attempting to pull them down her shoulders instead.
“Why?” she asks, an edge beginning to form where a smooth curve used to exist in her voice. “Why can’t I just come with you to big kid school?”
“Because next year you’ll have to start going to kindergarten, so you can learn new things and make friends. I won’t be able to just drop everything and come get you. Instead you’ll be forced to either sit in your classroom or sit in the principal’s office for hours until big kid school is done.”
Eri slumps in her seat. The tears are welling in her eyes and Aizawa has to look above her head in order to keep talking with her.
“This is the fourth daycare you’ve been kicked out of, honey. That’s not good.”
Eri turns her face away. “Guess you’ll have to maybe take me to a new one then,” she says.
“I can’t.” At this she perks up, catching the feeling of excitement in those little hands of hers before it slips from her grasp and runs off when she sees her dad do that thing where he drags his hand down the entirety of his face and then rubs at his scruffy jaw. “This was the last daycare in our area that I can afford. No more daycares.”
“So I’ll have to come to school with you now, right?” she asks, hopeful eyes shining with a few embarrassed tears that hadn’t yet gone away.
Aizawa doesn’t say anything. He gets out of the car, opens her door, and helps her out of her seatbelt.
“Come on,” he says, holding her bag in one hand and her palm in the other. “Today you get to watch my students take a pop quiz.”
Class 1-A loves Eri. They love to dote on her, like she’s their princess and they are nothing but her humble servants. They don’t bat an eye when she shows up during the second half of the day anymore, used to their visibly stressed teacher sitting her down with coloring pages and an old cd player (there’s no way in hell he would ever put an ipad in her hands) in a poor attempt at a fort under his desk. They felt bad for him, really, knowing how hard he’s had it since…
They also like to sneak little snacks and fidget toys to her when he’s not looking. They get passed down the rows of desks like contraband, making a wide loop around the goody-goodies that rat them out. They think they’re helping, really they do. And it’s endearing. But it makes it more difficult for him, in all actuality, when he’s trying to convince Eri that his classroom is not the place for her to be and they’re doing everything to make it friendly for her. They even stopped swearing when Eri made her little visits. (At least, they tried their best.)
“They’re like her gang of babysitters,” Aizawa explains to Mic as he pulls out a bottle of scotch from the baby proofed cupboard above the fridge and two glasses. Eri had been put to bed an hour prior, after having her bath and getting her hair braided and insisting on TWO stories tonight; one from her dad and one from her godfather. “It just makes her want to be there even more.”
“Maybe that’s what you two need,” Mic says from the sofa, helping himself to some chips and dip.
“What?”
“You know, a babysitter,” the blond elaborates. “Or a nanny, in this case.”
Aizawa’s brow furrows. His lips turn down. Mic can already tell this is going to take a lot of selling. “What’s the difference?”
“Nannies do more,” Mic says, his mouth partially full. He gave up on manners around Aizawa sometime around… well, they met in middle school, so he probably never had them in the first place. “Babysitters are for, like, date nights and stuff.”
“I definitely don’t need one of those,” Aizawa grumbles, handing Mic his glass before settling onto the couch himself.
“Nannies are more long term,” Mic continues, not addressing the comment, “they would stay with her at home the whole day while you work, maybe do some tidying or run some errands for you. It’s like daycare, but more personal and actually not at all like daycare. You just have someone watching your kid all day.”
Aizawa groans, gulping down most of his drink in one go. “I don’t want some stranger in my house alone with my kid. That sounds terrible.”
“Man, they call them nanny cams for a reason. And when you use the websites they do background checks.”
“How do you know so much about nannies?” Aizawa asks suspiciously. Mic had no kids. He had no nieces or nephews. All he had were a bunch of elementary school students singing the same ten annoying songs off key.
“Remember the lady with the two kids I was hooking up with while they were with their dad? She had a nanny.”
“And how long after you stopped seeing the mom did you start sleeping with the nanny?” Aizawa asked, an eyebrow raised.
“Hey, it’s completely a coincidence that I met her nanny out at a bar one night, okay? Swear on my life. Not like I ever met her before then, I never met the kids!”
“Whatever,” Aizawa says, downing the last of his drink before pouring another. “I’m not getting a nanny.”
“You at least gotta think about it,” Mic says, “you don’t have many other choices here. Unless you want to call your mom and have her-”
“Absolutely not.”
“Then I recommend you take the weekend to research nanny websites,” Mic says. “You can’t bring your kid to work with you every day. It’s not good for her. It’s not good for you.” Mic leaves his unfinished drink on the coffee table, knowing Aizawa will just drink the rest himself after he leaves. “I should tuck in for the night. Think about it, alright? And I’m right down the street if you ever need anything. And-”
“Good night, Mic.”
“Later.”
Aizawa stays on the couch, sitting in the same spot, staring at the wall in front of him for an hour before he finally sighs to himself.
“Don’t have many other choices,” he grumbles as he pulls his laptop out of his work bag and starts his google search, Mic’s unfinished glass of scotch in hand.

ao3 / masterlist
PREVIOUS - ACT ONE: HOW CAN I MAKE IT OK?
NEXT - ACT TWO: (idk yet titles are hard) (WIP)
The thing about Natalie Scatorccio is that she always seems to find you when you least expect it. It’s like she has a sixth sense, some radar that tells her exactly when you’re trying not to think about her—and then she shows up, smirking like she knows all your secrets.
Today is no different. You’re sitting on the steps outside the library, flipping halfheartedly through a history textbook, when her shadow falls over you.
"Studying on a Friday, Princess?" She lets out a low whistle, "Now, that's tragic."
You roll your eyes and let a scoff fall from your lips, "Listen, not everyone can afford to just… throw caution to the wind or whatever. Some of us actually need to study."
Nat snorts as she fishes a cigarette out of her pocket, bringing it to her lips and lighting it, "I do study, just not on Fridays, like a nerd." She gives you a pointed glare, but it lacks any actual heat.
Without giving you a chance to object, she throws her duffle bag down on the steps next to you and sits down with a grunt. "Seriously, though." She ashes her cigarette, "Why're you sittin' alone out here, head in your…" She glances at the cover of your textbook, "history book when you could be doin' anything else?"
You shrug and close your textbook with a sigh, "I dunno. I guess it's just… the way things are, or whatever. Never really been the type of person who goes out on Fridays." Nat nods in understanding as she takes a slow drag from her cigarette, "Yeah, I get that. Nothin' wrong with that. But it gets boring after a while, yeah? Doin' the same thing every week, set in some constant routine?"
"I guess," You sigh and move to put your textbook into your backpack, "But don't you have routines? I mean, soccer and all that?"
"Yeah, I got some routine. Some days, I get up earlier than others to make it to practice. Some days, I spend some time after school kicking around a ball in the field. But that's not my point." Another drag of her smoke, "My point is that you can have some routine, but life is so fucking boring if that's all your life is." She rolls the end of the cigarette between her thumb and pointer finger for a few seconds before looking at you, squinting against the harsh light of the sun that beats down from behind you. "You gotta have something to shake it up every now and then, yeah? You don't gotta go to a party every week, but what's stoppin' you from goin' to one now and then?"
"It's just never been my scene, I guess. My friends and I don't really… do parties, you know? Like, we have small get-togethers or whatever, but we don't party. Never really seen myself as a party person, either." You shrug, zipping up your bag and moving it to rest on the step in front of you, "I dunno. I guess the…" You wave your hands around as you think of the proper words to use, "loud music and annoying people isn't exactly what I consider fun." A fond shake of your head and a gentle laugh, "But, hey, all the power to you if that's what you do find fun."
"You ever been invited to a party?" Nat chimes in after considering your statement for a few seconds.
You have to think about that question for a few seconds. "Yes." You finally manage, which earns you a skeptical look from the woman sitting next to you.
"Then why'd you have to think about it?"
"Oh my God." You roll your eyes, "Because it's been a while since I got invited to one, alright? Like I said, I don't hang out with the type of people that go to parties. So…"
Nat hums at that, seemingly accepting the answer you've given her. "Alright. So what do you do on Fridays? Or the weekend? Or whenever you aren't with your nose in some book." She gestures to your backpack and the textbook inside of it by extension. "Nothin' wrong with it, but you gotta do something else, yeah?"
A huff leaves your mouth before you can stop it, "Well, you've caught me sketching once or twice, yeah? I'm a pretty big fan of that. Uhhh…" You think for a few seconds, feeling like this is an awkward first date where the person is asking, "What do you do for fun?" and it takes everything in you not to give out the most generic answers possible. "I think I mentioned meteor showers to you before? I, uh, I like stargazing. And I guess I kinda play games sometimes? Although it's usually just… simulation games or whatever. The mindless stuff."
"Right." The girl smirks to herself as she muddles over your hobbies in her head. "Drawing, stargazing, and simulation games. Yeah, you, my friend, are a walking funfest, you know that?" One last drag from her cigarette before snuffing it out on the step, "That stuff is fun and all, but you need some more excitement in your life."
"What? Like… stealing BuzzBalls from corner stores?" A faint smirk tugs at your lips, "Or taking joyrides in stolen Maseratis?"
"First of all," Nat cuts you off before you can continue, "It was a Mazda. There's a huge difference. Second of all…" She hums and leans back, resting her elbows on the next step up.
She looks over you in a curious sort of way, appraising your form and being. "You could skate. Could convince Kev to teach you a thing or two at the skatepark, as long as you aren't gonna cry if you fall. If you play simulation games, you might not be half-bad at pool or darts. Hell, even thrifting or something. Refresh your wardrobe. I swear, every time I see you, you're basically wearing the same thing, just in different variants." Then, a sly grin. "But the fun stuff? Bet I could teach you to tag stuff without getting caught. You're already an artist; you should leave your mark on some places, yeah?" Her grin widens, "Maybe I could even convince you to bust into an old factory with me." A beat, "Unless… you're afraid of ghosts?" Then, she's laughing to herself.
You try to fight the grin on your face, but it's hard when you find her smile to be one of the most contagious things you've ever seen. "I'm not afraid of ghosts, thank you." A dramatic roll of your eyes earns another laugh from Nat, her smile wide and plastered on her face like she's having the time of her life. "But, also… I dunno. Maybe I could be convinced to try something new." "Maybe?" Nat parrots, still half-laughing. "Nah. I will convince you to "try something new"; you just haven't seen how convincing I can be yet." A self-satisfied grin replaces the smile she was wearing, and she leans in slightly, lowering her voice. "And I can be real convincing, Princess."
And… yep. You're blushing again. Nat, of course, notices this. Her grin gets ten times toothier, clearly satisfied with herself, and she leans back again. "But," She shrugs—as if she didn't just fluster the shit out of you with a single sentence. "That's for a later date."
Before you get a chance to respond to that, you catch sight of two girls wearing practice uniforms approaching—a simple grey shirt with the mascot's name on it and some shorts. You've seen them around before; it's a small town, after all.
Jackie Taylor—homecoming queen and captain of the girl's soccer team. Beside her, Shauna Shipman—who you… honestly don't know much about. You're pretty sure the two of them are best friends despite the fact that they seem like polar opposites.
Something something opposites attract, or whatever.
"Nat." Jackie stops in front of the two of you, regarding you with a half-assed smile for a fraction of a second before turning back to Nat, "You will be at practice today, right? You aren't gonna ditch again to do—"
"Yes, Jackie. I will fucking be at practice, alright?" Nat cuts her off with a scowl and a roll of her eyes. You swear she's gonna add something else but opts against it.
"Well… good." Jackie nods, then glances at you for much longer than she did initially, a curious expression on her face.
You don't have to guess why the expression is there, either. You aren't that dumb. You don't really look like the type of person Natalie Scatorccio hangs out with—not with your textbooks, sketchbooks, and meekness. No, you've seen the people she hangs out with. Misfits, mostly. There's that one goth kid, that guy with curly hair, and the redhead chick—who also plays on the soccer team with Nat. Then there are the… less than savoury characters. The people who she isn't seen around as much, but everyone knows she is around. Not hardened criminals per se, but people who are very, very rough around the edges. People who have longer rap sheets and far more "experience" being criminals than Natalie does.
Either way, Jackie doesn't comment on the stark difference between Natalie's usual crowd and you.
You give the team captain a tense smile as she looks at you, which she quickly returns before looking back at the girl sitting next to you, "We start in thirty."
"Yeah, I know, Princess." Natalie rolls her eyes, "I'm well aware what time practice starts, thank you."
"I was just trying to—" Jackie huffs and crosses her arms, "Whatever. Be there." Then she walks off, seemingly pouting, and Shauna gives Nat a shrug in apology before following.
Once the pair are out of earshot, Nat groans and pushes a hand through her bleached hair, "See, that's someone I call a princess in a derogatory manner."
You snort, "But it's not derogatory with me?"
"Nah." She shakes her head, "With you? It just… feels right. Dunno. Like that one chick we called "Crystal the Pistol" a few times. It's an affectionate nickname, or whatever." She waves a hand dismissively, "Not my point. Point is, when I say it to you, it's…" A beat of hesitation as she tries to find the right words, "Ugh. I don't know. I'm not good with words. Just know it's a good nickname, not a bad one."
"Right." Your eyes narrow slightly at that, but you don't push the topic further.
Which Nat seems grateful for, anyway. "Anyways. What the hell were we talking about?"
"Uhhhhh… hobbies, and how mine are, apparently, drastically boring?"
"Oh. Right." She nods, thinking about the previous conversation for a minute, then she gives a fond roll of her eyes and turns to you with a soft grin, "I mean… you said it. Not me. I just said you need some excitement. I'm not the one that goes stargazing for fun."
"Right. And most of your suggestions were…" You hum in mock thought, "Illegal, no?"
"'s only illegal if you get caught, actually." Nat shoots back, "And where's your sense of adventure, huh?" She nudges you with her elbow, "Gotta live a little, Princess. I know that BuzzBall was probably the first time you've ever… partaken in something illegal."
You roll your eyes and lean your back against the railing as you turn at the waist to face her, "Sorry, I don't willingly rob stores for fun in my free time. My bad."
You think you see Nat's jaw twitch at the comment, making you think you said the wrong thing, but before you can dwell on it too long or too hard, she lets out a hollow laugh. "Yeah, well, certified adrenaline junkie and all that. What can I say? Robbing stores gives me a rush." But the words come out slightly strained—like she's not telling you the whole story.
She clears her throat, clearly eager to move on from that particular line of conversation. "Whatever. Still. Like I said, I can… get Kev to teach you how to skate. Or… hell, you ever kicked a soccer ball around before?"
"In PE, yeah. But that's about it."
"Hmm." The blonde considers this, "You any good at it?" You snort, "Hardly varsity material, but I'm not, like, terrible at it or anything."
"Yeah? Well, maybe I can show you how to be junior varsity material. Shouldn't be that hard to play better than a few freshies, yeah? Maybe I'll even teach you some soccer tricks." She grins to herself, "Teach you the basics of freestyling soccer balls."
"Mm, promising a lot here, Nat. First, you're saying that you'll teach me to play good enough to beat some "freshies" in soccer, then telling me you'll teach me tricks?" You click your tongue, "How do I know you aren't gonna completely bail on me?" "Oh, make no mistake, I don't go back on my word. If I say I'm gonna do something, then you can bet your sweet ass I'm gonna do it, yeah?" A toothy grin, "And that's the Scatorccio guarantee."
You snort, "Yeah, you say that like your last name holds a lot of value when it comes to trust—"
The words are meant to be teasing, they come out in a teasing tone, but you still feel like a piece of shit the second they leave your mouth.
"I… I didn't mean it like that. Sorry. I wasn't thinking—"
"Nah, no," Nat shakes her head and waves her hands, "no. Don't worry about it. I'm not mad at you or anything." A grin, likely to ease your nerves, "You're not exactly wrong either. But I'm giving you my word anyway. Which… you should take."
"Hm." You take some mock consideration to that, "I will take it for now. But I make no promises for whether I keep it or not."
"Won't regret it." Her grin becomes slightly more genuine, "Promise."
You spend the next… ten, fifteen minutes? talking to Nat on the steps of the library, actually getting to know each other, rather than those single-minded adventures that the two of you have been on the past little while.
You trade off on the typical "first date" questions: Favourite food (Hers is apparently pizza, which you said was boring, then she rolled her eyes and dropped "Ribollita" and refused to actually tell you what that means.), fast food (Said "Taco Bell" immediately.) music (Matches her. Veruca Salt, Blondie, Nirvana, The Pixies… you get the idea. You asked her if she played the music on tape decks. She said yes. You don't know if she's joking or not.), books (She called you a nerd. Then proceeded to say, "The Anarchist Cookbook".), least favourite teacher (Mr. Miller, who teaches Auto Shop and keeps telling her repair work is sloppy.), and most importantly: the meaning of life ("ask me after I've had a tab or two"??).
After spending the past three minutes trying to convince her you don't get straight A's in every class, you decide just to show her your most recent in Physics and you… realise you left your binder in your locker.
"Crap." You sigh as you peer into your backpack, "I think I left my Science binder in my locker."
Nat snorts, "Didn't you open your bag earlier to put away your textbook? How didn't you notice it then?" "Because I wasn't thinking about it then." You sigh and close your bag, "I need to grab it from my locker. I don't—" "I'll come with you. Need to head to the locker room and change into practice gear." She cuts you off, pushes herself off the stairs, and, much to your surprise, actually waits for you before she starts walking. You try not to act surprised by this as you grab your backpack and throw it over your shoulders. When she does catch you acting surprised, because of course she does, she grins and rolls her eyes. "I said I was coming with you. Which means I am following you, and you aren't following me. Therefore, I have to wait for you. I still don't wait for people to follow me, Princess."
You can't fight the way your eyes roll and lips purse at that comment, "Right." Once you're standing, the pair of you head off in the direction of your locker.
"Dude, your locker is all the way in the old science hall? Who the fuck goes here anymore? There are zero classes near this place anymore. It must take five minutes to walk from class-to-fucking-class." She mutters, more to herself than you, and shakes her head as you two reach your destination. "Yeah, if I could have chosen my locker, it would be in the English hall. Right in the center of all my classes. I'm also pretty sure I'm the only person who has their locker in this hall." You sigh as you start to fiddle with the lock, "I've basically only seen the janitor up here. I don't know what I did to piss off whoever assigned lockers, but here I am." A sigh leaves your lips as the lock clicks open, "Admin won't even let me move lockers." Nat snorts and leans on the locker adjacent yours, "Yeah, sounds about right. They don't actually give a shit about the students here. I mean, for all the money going into athletics, you'd think they'd give us uniforms that don't chafe." An exasperated roll of her eyes, "So stupid."
"Sounds about right. Didn't the money go to the boy's baseball team or something?" She seems slightly surprised you know that but gives a nod of her head. "Uh, yeah. That's right. Which makes no sense considering we won states last year, and this year we actually have a good chance of—"
Her eyes zero in on the binder you're grabbing. "Holy shit. Is that colour-coded?" Her jaw drops in awe (or shock?), and she takes it from your hands, flipping it open. "H-o-l-y s-h-i-t. It is."
"I like having things organized by unit, whether it's a worksheet or notes!" You defend yourself, grabbing the binder back from her with a huff, "Sue me, okay!"
"Shit, I should." She lets out a low whistle, "Damn. All this for a…" She peers at the test you were going to show her, "B? Damn, Princess. That's unfortunate."
"You're making fun of me." You murmur petulantly, slamming the binder shut and shoving it into your backpack, "What's your GPA then, huh?"
Nat hums as she considers that answer, "Three point three."
"Wait." You turn to look at her, "Seriously?"
She laughs, "Yeah, seriously. I can't play soccer if I'm failing all my classes. Just because I don't show up to class doesn't mean I don't do the work for them." A roll of her eyes, like it was an obvious answer.
"Mm. And do you do the work for them, or do you pay some unsuspecting nerd—"
"What makes you think I have the money to pay anyone to do anything?" The girl cuts you off with a snort and crosses her arms, "Trust me, I do all my work myself."
"Hey, who said anything about money?" You grin at her, "You have… dubious tendencies. For all I know, you're paying them some other way." You offer a teasing shrug, "Like stolen BuzzBalls or…" A faux gasp, "Oh my God. Am I the unsuspecting nerd?" Nat scoffs once and looks away, "Yeah, right." Another scoff. Then another.
…wait. Is she blushing? Did you just fluster Natalie Scatorccio? On accident?
Between the way she won't meet your eyes, fiddles with the hem of her shirt, her usually pale cheeks now with the faintest hint of colour in them, and she swallows nervously? Wow. You think you did. How the tables…
You don't get too long to reflect on that before she's seemingly recovered and trying to act unaffected. "What if I am, nerd?" She leans into your personal space, "Maybe I'm looking for an unsuspecting nerd to do more than just my homework."
Now you're the flustered one. Again. "Uh—"
"I mean, think about it." She licks her lips, "The unsuspecting nerd and the resident burnout. Talk about opposites attracting. I could show you so much shit." A feral grin crosses her features, and your entire body heats up without your consent, "I could make you feel real—"
You take a step back, putting up both a metaphorical and physical space between you two. "Natalie. I don't—"
"Don't what? Oh, come on, Princess. Don't act like you haven't been thinking about it. I'm not dumb. I've seen the way you've been looking at me. Don't act like—"
You look visibly uncomfortable. Flustered, yes, but also uncomfortable. You're wringing your hands together in a subconscious act of anxiety, and whether that's because of her proximity or the situation, you aren't quite sure. Either way, Nat notices this.
You swear you see something like guilt flash behind her eyes once she realises she made you uncomfortable, but no outward attempt at an apology is made.
Natalie clears her throat and takes a small step back, the bravado dropping in an instant. "Whatever." She crosses her arms again, "Whatever. Let's just…" Her jaw tenses, and she shakes her head. "Nevermind."
There's some very tense air that passes between the both of you as you awkwardly close and lock your locker, neither of you bothering to glance at the other, letting the awkwardness fester.
It probably would have kept festering, too, had the sound of Natalie's phone vibrating not broken the silence.
"Goddammit, I swear to God if Jackie is—" Her mouth snaps shut as she looks down at her phone, and a slow grin finds its way onto her mouth. "Ooooh, fuck yes." She looks up at you, "Say, Princess, you doing anything tonight?"
"Uhhhh…" You shake your head, "No? I was just planning on staying at home and…" You shrug, "I dunno. Relaxing, or whatever."
"Mm. I have a better idea. You should come to a party tonight."
"Oh."
"Oh? That's it?" Nat rolls her eyes, "Come on. What was it I said about needing to get out of your comfort zone? A party is the perfect time and place to do it!" She shakes her head (and hands), "Look, it's a bonfire. If things go poorly, you can just… sit and stare at the fire and ignore everyone."
An unsure breath leaves your lips as you consider all the possibilities in your head. Of course, your mind heads to the worst-case scenario first, like a completely normal person would.
"Dude, seriously." She says, softer this time. "No pressure. It's just… a bonfire party… no, get-together, with some friends. That's it, yeah? Not like the entire town is gonna be there." She reiterates, throwing some emphasis on the fact it's "just a bonfire get-together," as if that will soothe all your nerves.
More hesitation on your part, but you can't deny the curiosity that seeds its way into your mind at the idea of seeing Nat in her element for once. "I… I don't know, Nat. It really isn't my scene—"
"It doesn't have to be your scene. It's just gonna be the place you spend a single Friday night. That's it. Don't ever gotta come to one again if you decide you hate it. Won't even bring it up again. Promise."
Even more hesitation. Even more curiosity you can't shove down and hide, for better or worse.
You don’t belong in the scene she frequents. Not really. But the way she grinned—like you were some project she couldn’t wait to take on—made you want to, even if it was just for one night.
"Come on. Drinks are free. Maybe they'll have more coolers you can try. Really dip your toes into the world of alcoholic beverages." She snickers.
Man, peer pressure does work, doesn't it?
You’re not a party person. But then again, Natalie Scatorccio isn’t just a person—she’s the reason you’re even considering it.
"I can't believe I'm gonna say this…" You shake your head and sigh, "But… fine. Fine. I'll… I'll go to this stupid party."
A wide grin crosses her face. Wide and very pleased with herself. "Perfect. Good choice. Best choice, really. Won't regret it, promise." She pushes herself off the locker beside yours, "I gotta get to practice. But I will… see you tonight, yeah?"
"Yeah. Yes." You sigh reluctantly, "I will… see you tonight, Nat."
"Hell yeah, you will. Maybe I'll even convince you to crack a beer or two. Smoke a cigarette. Real delinquent shit." She laughs at that as she begins walking off toward the gym, "See you tonight, Princess!" Nat calls from over her shoulder, "I'll text you the address!"
You watch her leave, blinking a few times in shock that she was able to convince you to go to a high school party so quickly.
"Well." You mumble to yourself, "Guess senior year isn't the worst time to go to your first party." You rub your forehead, mildly frustrated with yourself and your ability to say no, "Goddammit."
Well. Guess you have a party to prepare for, huh?

When you get into batfam content you automatically get dragged to Danny Phantom apparently (not complaining)
So anyway I made an oc shut up you knew it was coming
Her name is Rafaela "Raf" Saunders and her ghost self's name is The Revenant
I wandered about the possibility of another halfa that was made before Danny and the what ifs that came with the idea; the most fun being Vlad having another one-sided beef with them if they were to mentor Danny after he "offered"
It would mostly be Danny's way of getting under Vlad's skin. He doesn't tell Vlad who The Revenant is or anything about them really. All he knows is this silent, 2m+, humanoid halfa carries themself so elegantly it pisses him off.
For Raf, being The Revenant was like performing on a stage, and if she broke character she turned back into Raf. And she could not afford that while someone could still be watching. The show must go on (cough cough theater kid cought).
Danny became familiar with The Revenant's game of charades when they didn't project any text. They COULD talk, but their voice was overlapping with their own and others that sounded too different to be theirs, so understanding them was hard at times. Danny got used to that too, but they keep the game of charades on whenever Plasmius appears.
I just imagine how The Revenant would just wave Phantom to go catch whatever ghost was left while they dealt with Plasmius and the latter being absolutely furious because how can Daniel not even argue back and just do what they say??? (The kids talked about this a lot before as another way to annoy Vlad. After each meeting they discuss what was affective and what not)
Since Danny told Raf who Plasmius is and their previous encounters, she had an upper hand when talking to the man. He's manipulative yes but so can Raf; especially because unlike with Danny, she didn't have any personal relation to the guy in any way, plus the lack on identity identification, she had all the cards! Danny, Raf, Sam and Tucker would often come up with things to say to the guy to aggravate him.
The best part was that Vlad would look for an adult when searching for Danny's "mentor" and never thought to look twice at the boy's little friend group and a certain colored hair kid who got integrated into it recently.
Is this oc an excuse to mess with Vlad? Mayhaps.
Also have this height chart just because

All electron jobs suck? Help!
Why do all the job options on atomjobs suck? Everyone wants a "personal assistant" and when I say everyone it really feels like everyone. Do other jobs just not exist for us?

How to leave job without upsetting employer?
Quick story time: So! A few years ago my financial situation wasn't the best, and I had been recently traded away to a different atom, so I was really in need of a job! I would have taken practically anything if it paid decently. One very dodgy interview later, and I had landed myself a job- unfortunately, as I should have gathered from the interview, my employer was full of absolute shit.
Not going into any details as to how full of shit they were, but it should be saying enough if I'm asking for advice on how to resign from my job without making my employer go ballistic. Working with my employer's taken a big toll on my mental state and I fear that if I stay a moment longer I'm going to be charged for murder.
Any help would be very much appreciated!
-
fate_my_ass : 3 yrs ago : Is your employer a proton? Because if so, you're better off just rebirthing yourself. No offense.
tzrbro11 : 3 yrs ago : None taken. Just wondering if there was another way I could leave without having to end up as a missing persons case with amnesia.
fate_my_ass : 3 yrs ago : Sorry. Unfortunately I don't know of any alternate ways to resign and end up in one piece - I would know. I've been legally "dead" (we technically can't die, but whatever) in my home area for a few years now. A friend of mine was sent to the hospital when his (proton) boss "found" him injured in a dumpster. Lawyers never helped - if we could even afford them.
tzrbro11 : 3 yrs ago : Could I just flee the area and become a squatter? That seems like a viable option.
fate_my_ass : 3 yrs ago : Oh, yeah. But you'd better be good at hiding.

CEO of Produce Plus discusses electrons
Excerpt from the interview you can watch here.
"...it honestly upsets me to see how violent these people are - I mean, they're more animals than people at this point. They- committing crimes in abandoned houses, assaulting their atommates[3], forced rebirth? They're all... they're all crazy. I don't want them near any of my employees, I don't want them near any of my friends, I don't even want them working in any jobs under me - surely they've got a disease that's making them act this way, right? No normal person would ever act the way they do."

Just a cold - Another quote by Shen Yi
Shen Yi knew the day was going to be rough as soon as he woke up. His head throbbed, his throat felt scratchy, and his body ached all over. Yesterday’s work—chasing leads in the drizzle—had done its job. He fumbled for the medicine cabinet, downed a couple of cold pills, and pulled on his coat. Despite the pounding in his head, there was no time to rest. They had cases to solve, and he couldn’t afford to fall behind.
"Just a cold," Shen Yi muttered to himself as he grabbed his bag. He took the cab instead of riding the bike.
When he arrived at the station, Li Han was already waiting with a folder of witness statements.
"Morning, Shen Yi Laoshi," she greeted him, her eyes narrowing slightly. "You don’t look so good."
"Uh…Just a cold. Already took medicine," Shen Yi replied, brushing off her concern. He took the file and started organizing his materials. His movements were noticeably slower than usual. He had three suspect sketches to finish—one based on the hazy evidence they’d collected the previous night. One from Li Han and the other one from an urgent case of a nearby precinct.
Meanwhile, Du Cheng was busy interrogating suspects and questioning witnesses. Li Han had already informed him that Shen Yi is not feeling well. So he glanced over at Shen Yi occasionally, his brow furrowing deeper each time he noticed how pale Shen Yi looked.
By mid-morning, Shen Yi’s cold had worsened. He coughed into his sleeve, his breath hitching slightly as he tried to stifle it. His hand trembled faintly as he adjusted his sketchpad. Du Cheng noticed how he paused more often to rub his temples or press a hand to his forehead.
But his hands were tied as well. He could not let Shen Yi take a leave considering the severity of the cases they had to finalize. Well, if he can’t let him leave, he has to take care of him.
As the hours dragged on, Shen Yi’s condition became harder to ignore. His sneezes echoed through the otherwise quiet office, and he shivered visibly despite the warmth of the room. His normally steady lines on the sketchpad wavered, and he had to erase and redraw more frequently than usual.
Du Cheng knew Shen Yi would let himself collapse before he took a breather. Finally, during a brief break, he approached him.
"Shen Yi," Du Cheng said, crossing his arms as he stood by the desk. "You look like you’re about to keel over. Take a few minutes off."
Shen Yi didn’t look up. "It’s fine," he said, his voice hoarse. "We need this sketch. The sooner it’s done, the sooner we can catch him."
Du Cheng sighed as his eyes narrowed. "You can barely hold the pencil steady. When was the last time you ate something?"
Shen Yi hesitated, then mumbled, "Breakfast."
"Yeah? And what did you have?" Du Cheng pressed, his tone skeptical.
Shen Yi sighed, his exhaustion making it harder to mask his frustration. "Look, I’ll eat later, okay? I have to finish this first."
Du Cheng frowned. "Fine. Just don’t blame me if you pass out."
He left immediately and asked Li Han not to give the rest of the statements Shen Yi and ordered her to try and find some additional footage to find the suspect.
By evening, Shen Yi’s exhaustion was painfully evident. His head drooped over the desk, and he blinked furiously to keep his eyes open. The pencil in his hand slipped occasionally, and he had to grip it tighter to regain control. His breathing had grown heavier, his chest rising and falling with more effort.
Du Cheng, who had just returned from speaking with another witness, came to check on Shen Yi. The younger man’s face was ghostly pale, his lips slightly parted as he struggled to catch his breath. For a moment, Du Cheng just watched him, his jaw tightening.
"Shen Yi," Du Cheng said sharply, walking over. "Stop. That’s enough."
Shen Yi shook his head weakly, his voice barely audible. "I’m close to finishing it."
"You’re close to collapsing," Du Cheng retorted, pulling the pencil out of Shen Yi’s hand. "How do you know this is accurate when you’re too sick to think straight?"
Shen Yi tried to protest, but his words were slurred. "I can’t let another... life be taken."
Du Cheng sighed heavily. He walked out of the room and returned minutes later with a cup of tea, a packet of biscuits, and cold medicine. "Here," he said, placing them on the desk. "Take a break. Eat something."
Shen Yi stared at the items, his tired eyes widening slightly. "I don’t—"
"Just shut up and eat," Du Cheng interrupted, his tone gruff. "I don’t want to hear excuses."
Shen Yi pouted a little before grabbing on to the tea slumping on the chair, relaxed. ‘The pout is new. He must be feeling super off.’ Du Cheng thinks.
Du Cheng was right. When he looked at the sketch after the break, he noticed that he had missed some details. By 11 PM, Shen Yi finally finished the sketch. As he stood to hand it to Du Cheng, his legs wobbled, and his vision blurred. He swayed, then stumbled forward. Du Cheng reacted instantly, catching him as his knees buckled.
"Shen Yi!" Du Cheng exclaimed, his voice tinged with panic. He pressed a hand to Shen Yi’s forehead and grimaced. "You’re burning up. Damn it, I knew this would happen."
Shen Yi mumbled something incoherent, his eyes half-lidded as he struggled to stay conscious. "My legs fell asleep…s nothing..."
"It’s not nothing," Du Cheng snapped. He eased Shen Yi into a chair, then grabbed the sketch. "Stay here. I’ll handle this and get you to a doctor."
Du Cheng handed the sketch to Jiang Feng, giving firm instructions to run a match immediately. When he returned, Shen Yi was slumped over the desk, his head resting on his arms. His breathing was shallow, and beads of sweat glistened on his forehead.
"Come on," Du Cheng muttered, lifting Shen Yi to his feet. "We’re going."
“Home?”
“Hospital!”
Du Cheng drove Shen Yi to the nearest hospital. The doctor confirmed a high fever and prescribed rest, some meds, fluids, and assured that there’s nothing to worry about. Du Cheng thanked him curtly and helped Shen Yi back into the car.
At Shen Yi’s apartment, Du Cheng guided him inside, practically carrying him to the couch. "Sit here," Du Cheng said firmly, his tone leaving no room for argument. Shen Yi’s body felt unnaturally light, and his head lolled to the side as Du Cheng eased him down.
Du Cheng frowned, crouching to study Shen Yi’s pale face more closely. He touched his forehead, "Still burning up," he muttered under his breath. Without wasting time, he went into the kitchen, rummaging for a clean bowl to fill with cold water and grabbing a soft cloth. Returning quickly, he knelt beside Shen Yi and began dabbing his forehead and neck gently.
Shen Yi stirred slightly, his lips parting in a faint murmur. "Stop…fussing…too cold," he whined, his voice so weak it was barely audible.
"Who’s fussing?" Du Cheng shot back, his hands never stopping. "You’re the one who decided to play the hero while running a fever."
Shen Yi’s lashes fluttered briefly, but he didn’t argue further. His head tilted slightly into the touch of the cool cloth, a barely perceptible sign of relief washing over his strained features. Du Cheng noticed this and softened his movements further, muttering, "See? Not so bad."
He fetched a blanket and tucked it around Shen Yi, making sure he was warm but not stifled. Then, he prepared a glass of water and gently tilted it against Shen Yi’s lips. "Drink," he urged. "Small sips."
Shen Yi obeyed, though his hands trembled slightly when he tried to hold the glass. Du Cheng steadied him without a word, his brow furrowing as he watched Shen Yi’s delicacy up close. "Why do you always push yourself like this?" Du Cheng muttered, almost to himself. "You’re allergic to asking for help."
That was a statement. Shen Yi gave a faint smile, his voice rasping out, "Teamwork, right?"
Du Cheng huffed, half amused and half exasperated. “Teamwork works when one of us isn’t half-dead."
Over the next couple of hours, Du Cheng stayed close, rewetting the cloth and ensuring Shen Yi stayed hydrated. He even coaxed a few spoons of porridge into him when he stirred again. Shen Yi’s fever gradually began to drop, and the tension in his features eased, though he remained deeply fatigued.
Du Cheng fetched the damp towel, gently wiping Shen Yi’s face and arms for the last time. He then adjusted the blanket around him. Shen Yi stirred slightly, his lips parting in a faint murmur.
"Du Cheng... don’t fuss," Shen Yi whispered, his voice barely audible.
"Who’s fussing?" Du Cheng muttered again, his hands never stopping.
When Shen Yi finally drifted into a deeper sleep, his breathing was steady, Du Cheng leaned back in relief. He ran a hand through his hair and let himself fall asleep on the couch next to Shen Yi’s bed.
Du Cheng woke to Xiao Xuan’s soft meowing. The cat had climbed onto his chest, pawing at him insistently. Groaning, Du Cheng sat up and checked on Shen Yi. The fever had finally broken, and his breathing was even.
"Shen Yi," Du Cheng called softly, placing a hand on his shoulder and shaking him gently. The younger man stirred, his brows knitting together before his eyes fluttered open, still glassy with exhaustion. For a moment, Shen Yi’s gaze was unfocused, and his lips parted as if to say something, but all that came out was a faint mumble.
"You awake?" Du Cheng asked, crouching to meet his eye level.
Shen Yi sat up, blinked a few times, his expression adorably dazed before rubbing his eyes from his paws palms. "You stayed? What time is it...?" he rasped, his voice scratchy from sleep.
"Morning," Du Cheng replied with a faint smirk. "Don’t push yourself. Fever’s down, but you look like a ragdoll that’s been through the wringer."
Shen Yi gave a weak huff, somewhere between a laugh and a sigh. "I don’t... look like a ragdoll."
Du Cheng raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. "Oh, no?" he teased, ruffling Shen Yi’s messy hair even messier to make a point, "Take a look in the mirror."
Shen Yi tried to bat Du Cheng’s hand away but missed, his movements sluggish.
Du Cheng wasn’t sure why he did that. He gained his grumpy cop personality back on. "Alright, sit tight. I’ll get you food. Don’t try anything stupid while I’m gone."
As Du Cheng walked off, Shen Yi leaned back against the cushions, a small smile tugging at his lips.

OKAY I WAS TALKING ABOUT THIS IN A DISCORD CHAT A FEW MONTHS AGO AND LEMME JUST SAY... I think Reboot Vergil was David's weakest performance and part of me questions if he actually liked playing the role.
This is supposed to be a character who uses his charisma to sway people into his cause and manipulates them into doing his bidding but I just don't get that from Reboot Vergil at all? He sounds way too dry, like David's just reading the lines without much effort. I've only watched a little bit of Westside (I still need to continue Outrageous Fortune first), but MAN, that is how you do the "charismatic criminal" character right.
And even at the end of the game where the mask slips off and Vergil shows his true side, which is supposed to be cold and menacing and , it's only barely a step up. He has some more emotion, but he doesn't sound menacing. I finished watching Dark City: The Cleaner a month ago since David was in that show too and I wanted to compare it to his other roles; In that, he plays the antagonist Robert Calhoun, a cop who's suspected to be committing murders copying off of another serial killer.
if i had a nickel for every time David de Lautour played a character named Robert, that would be two nickels
But anyways, he is fucking TERRIFYING in that. The scene in episode 5 where Calhoun is confronting Joe (the protagonist) about his plans to expose him, and even though Calhoun's already yelling and threatening Joe, you can see how much he's still trying to hold back and afford at least one more chance before going completely berserk.
Reboot Vergil just sounds like he's trying to imitate Original Vergil, but the really flanderized version of Original Vergil that doesn't understand what made that character's performance so intimidating.
I have no way of confirming how David de Lautour feels about his time as Reboot Vergil, but considering just how much hell Ninja Theory was put through due to Capcom's restrictions and having a lot of angry fans breathing down their necks, I would not be surprised if that was reflected in Reboot Vergil's performance.
"So there's this one character; He's this goofy ahh guy who seems all silly and carefree but is smarter than he lets on, and is an excellent mentor to those he carries under his wing. Yeah he's also half-human, and he has an internal conflict about refusing to let his nonhuman side take over out of fear that it'll hurt the ones he holds closest to him. Also he really likes pizza."
...Yeah you're gonna have to be specific.

I'm sorry but the irony of Nico calling Max unprofessional is sending me so bad like sir there's an entire garage full of people, who were literally in the trenches trying to survive the Brocedes fallout while just doing their jobs, who might have a few things to say about your (& Lewis') level of professionalism at that time 😭✋️
#f1#formula 1#formula one#max verstappen#nico rosberg#lewis hamilton#brocedes#like niki lauda had to try multiple times to literally parent trap them to try and get them on speaking terms it never worked#because one would arrive they'd see the other and the other would leave#& if i remember correctly the garage crew would swap around from race to race as a like see we aren't favouring anybody gesture 😭#and thats no shade to nico because it was both of them contributing to that environment#his comment re max is just making me laugh#like if i was a part of the pr/media team - which is a part of the degree I'm working on irl - at merc that year i would've lost the plot#like its insane reflecting on it nearly a decade later but the poor souls just trying to do their job in the eye of that storm#truly gods strongest soldiers#ngl the professional comment irks me a bit because its not like max is engaging in inappropriate work place behaviour#he's engaging in another aspect of racing that his involvement raises awareness of & that makes racing more accessible#& we all know how inaccessible not only getting into racing is but also to continue to pursue the further along you go#theres so many stories of 1 sibling giving up racing so the other can keep going because the family can't afford for them both to race#its a huge financial strain & we only see a handful of drivers talk about that & try to do something to change it#and nicos fellow sky sports commentators are routinely unprofessional on so many levels#additionally max had a lot of valid reasons to be annoyed at his team today#but alas he's not english so he's ungrateful#i hate that drivers can't criticise their teams or car without immediately being branded as bratty & ungrateful#ESPECIALLY WHEN THEIR JOB IS TO GIVE FEEDBACK#you can see the double standards from sky when say Lando or George have complaints with their team/car v the likes of Max and Yuki#especially Yuki my god the things i would do to get the British media to leave him alone#this was a jokey post at one point and then became a rant whoops lmao#I'll leave it that before i write an actual essay here 😭✋️
