I would love a scene in Spy x Family, post-reveal, where Anya gets kidnapped/is in danger and all the highly dangerous adults she's met and endeared herself to all team up to save her in a high-intensity, super satisfying series of fights all set to No Sleep 'til Brooklyn by the Beastie Boys

The Briar Siblings' Lies
It's very interesting that in the family of lies and secrets, the lies of the Briar siblings are included, and I'm pretty sure that will play a role whenever they find out about each other.
I expect Yor to be heartbroken and angry at Loid when she'll find out his lies, but I'd also expect her to be heartbroken and disappointed when she finds out how much Yuri lied to her.
Yor might have kept her own very dangerous secrets, but there are huge differences in their circumstances.
Tumblr media
Yor took up her assassin gig when she was just a teenager, orphaned and with a little brother to take care of. Amidst the cold war brewing, there would be various criminal organizations looking for people to drag in, and a poor, desperate, kind, and almost supernaturally strong teenage girl was the perfect recruit for Garden.
Whether this is Garden's initiative or not, Yor has a strong determination to kill her targets as quickly and as painlessly as possible, along with avoiding unnecessary bloodshed. She has studied human anatomy specifically for this very reason, to be able to kill her victims with mercy. She's realistic about the situations she's in, but if talking things through is even a tiny bit possible, she'll give it a try.
Tumblr media
Though her morals are slightly skewed for the average civilian - it's understandable to kill someone in self defense, but her main targets are situations where she plays judge, jury and executioner - she's still retained a lot of her humanity that allows her to be a kind person and a caring sister, mother and wife.
And then you have Yuri.
Tumblr media
Yuri fell victim to a more sinister kind of indoctrination - extremism and bigotry. Having grown up in poverty caused by the war and the deaths of his parents, and having an overwhelming wish to protect his sister, he was the perfect target for Ostania's nationalistic propaganda.
But the tragic background leading up to this choice and the want to protect his family is where his similarities with Yor's case end.
Yuri wasn't left with no other choices. Yor was already supporting him financially when he started working for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and that was a job that he could stay at and be independent. He was older than Yor was when she became an assassin. I can assume that some underhanded methods were used to lead him into the duties of the SSS, but even so Yuri had more control of the situation, more choices to choose from, and more information at hand. It's directly opposite to Yor's circumstances.
Yuri tortures people. The SSS specifically want him, despite his young age and lack of experience, exactly because he won't hold anything back, even when it makes him feel conflicted.
Tumblr media
The SSS may be taking advantage of the ease with which he tortures people, but it's still something Yuri willingly participates in - and again, considering the fame of the SSS among civilians, it's almost certain Yuri knew what he was getting into. He's giving up his own humanity, going down a path of "us vs. them" and while Yor plays judge on who gets to live, Yuri plays judge on who gets to be treated like a human being.
While two similarly dangerous and demanding professions, and (at least according to what Franky says) following the same government's orders, it's two highly different cases. I think Yuri will be mostly horrified to learn what Yor went through for his sake, but Yor will be very understandably heartbroken. Yuri could understand that Yor had no other choice, but Yor will know that Yuri had all the best choices right in front of him, and yet he chose this.
And it's why I believe this is the revelation that will hurt Yor more. She could explain Twilight's lies by the fact that they didn't know each other before, she could explain Anya's secrets by her young age and innocence, but there will be very little for Yuri to stand on - and the thing is, Yuri knows that. He knows that what he's chosen to become isn't what Yor raised him to be.
Tumblr media
Currently he may be seeing himself as a martyr for his cause, that he needed to potentially break his sister's heart in order to protect her and "the country she lives in". He'd rather have her feeling heartbroken and betrayed by him than with her life and safety in danger. He'd rather her hate him than get hurt.
How will it hit him when he realizes she's already been doing the same for him, and has already been endangering her life for over a decade for not only his sake, but for the world in general too? When he realizes all the work he's been doing to protect her was in vain because she has been walking into danger herself all along?
It's a really interesting dynamic, because the revelation could either break them or make them. They both have a very heartwarming background together, they both love each other deeply, but it's a trial they'll both have to go through at some point.
(Anime only fan here, don't spoil me for the manga)

Hi there is it okay if I could please have some headcanons on how yor yuri and loid from spy x family would react to meeting their younger siblings s/o for the first time the reader in this scenario is their younger sibling and they've just been invited to meet their partner for the first time how does it go down ?
Meeting Their Little Sibling (Reader)'s Partner
Fandom: Spy x Family
Character(s): Loid Forger, Yor Briar, Yuri Briar
Note(s): Ngl, this is so interesting. Especially since Loid is a spy on enemy lines so meeting your partner means you're also in the same country as him. (I mean I could've written before the mission, but that's no fun).
I also wrote Yor and Yuri together because that sounds like a chaotic mess and I'm here for it.
Tumblr media
Loid
He only had you after mom had died. You were the only one left and he promised to keep you safe and alive. Learning that you moved to the country that he's infiltrating as a spy made him want to tear his hair out. But then he learned that you were dating someone here too.
He feels a mix of emotions, none he outwardly displays. But there is a bit of coldness radiating from him towards you and your partner when he meets them. Of course, he brings Yor and Anya in hopes those two help scare your partner away.
He pretends to be happy, smiling at meeting your partner, but in his head he has all the details of them. He knows all of their previous relationships and how they ended. All of which he had looked into before meeting them so he knew rather this person is good for you or not (considering you're both on enemy lines, he already has them as a no).
Might have a long talk with you two after this meeting. Just because, this country is the one that caused your mother to die and now you're dating someone here? Yes he's married, but it's for his job (which he kept all details away from you). Seriously, Loid would've put up with you pretending to date Franky (a thought that he hates) if you were just trying to not be suspicious too. He just can't help feeling a bit betrayed.
Yuri + Yor
One is an assassin, the other part of the secret police. Both of them have it as a secret from you, but man do they use their jobs as an advantage when they hear you have a partner.
Yuri wants to arrest your partner. On what grounds, who knows. Hell, he would plant fake evidence if he didn't care about his job as much as he does. He doesn't even pretend to like your partner.
Yor does. She smiles and acts nice and sweet, but she probably breaks a couple bones when she shakes your partner's hand. When you're put of the room, she is still smiling as she promises to end them if they hurt you. Yuri thinks she's being an overprotective sister and he joins in with the threats.
The threats end up being a bit too detailed and specific, but your partner is too terrified to piece anything together. And the two are idiots. Then you walk into the room and it's more happy smiles from Yor while Yuri pouts and tries to find a bottle of wine.

Seems like today's new chapter is hinting at another new arc - the final exam arc maybe?!
Tumblr media
I still think Endo is planning something special for chapter 100 that may be connected to this arc. Regardless, it's nice for the whole "Anya's good at classical languages" subplot to be highlighted here...so curious if it'll end up being important.
Tumblr media
I was cracking up at Anya's whole "snotaconda" joke 🤣 She's such a kid, and Loid is so done.
Tumblr media
This is now the third chapter that the Authens have consistently appeared in since their introduction (except for the short mission of course). It's really making me think that they're going to be important for something, if not in this arc then later on.
Tumblr media
Like many others, I'm on the fence as to whether they can be trusted or not. They've been portrayed only favorably since they've appeared, having several sweet moments with Anya. Plus, Sigmund is shown to not have his wits about him a lot of the time, which would be very detrimental to someone who's tactically trying to deceive others - unless his whole "senile old man" thing is just an act! If anything, he could have some connection to Anya's past, since he has so many books on classical languages...but he was a professor after all...so many mysteries!
Tumblr media
Tiny Twiyor crumb of Yor being embarrassed talking about Loid. She doesn't seem to get embarrassed when she praises him in front of others when he's not there, like with Becky, but if he is there...yeah 😅
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was a lot of wordplay in this chapter that I think the translator did a good job conveying. In the above scene, Sigmund says he's "a pro at exposing secrets," so Anya mistakes the word "pro" for "furo" (bath).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this scene, she mistakes Sigmund's "eureka" for "yuukari" (eucalyptus).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here, instead of "booger constrictor" she says "hanaconda," a combination of "hana" (nose) and "anaconda."
Tumblr media
This is actually the first chapter that Loid has played a significant role in since the end of the Mole Hunt arc. Since that ended with a big character development chapter for him, I'm curious to see how much he's changed, even subtly. In this chapter we can see that he's even more hesitant to interact with Yuri, which makes sense.
Tumblr media
Also, Sigmund opens his eyes to a new way of acquiring knowledge he had never thought of before outside of his cold, calculating spy training. In addition, we see Sigmund being openly affectionate with Anya, patting her on the head and even hugging her when she says that she strives for world peace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, nothing so far has portrayed him as anything but good-intentioned, perhaps as a way for Loid to eventually learn to be affectionate with Anya too. But that doesn't mean Sigmund isn't hiding something, even if it's not malevolent.
Loid's line here towards the end of the chapter was particularly ominious.
Tumblr media
Ugh, so many mysterious and potential plot twists! In addition to a cliffhanger, the chapter ending gave us cursed facial hair Anya 🤣
Tumblr media
Two weeks to see if she passed or failed! 😳

twiyor eden au headcanons 📚
• [redacted] adopted the name loid after imigrating to ostania with his mother, partly for assimilation reasons and partly because he wanted a fresh start. his mother changed her name as well so he wouldn't feel alone in that.
• loid achieved the highest score in eden's admission tests to date. there was quite a bit of opposition to him joining the prestigious school, but ultimately it was decided that a flow of students between both countries could be a good step toward peace. that's how the characters from westalis are accepted into eden.
• yor is not particularly academically gifted, but she's insanely physically gifted. an increasing number of sports trophies in eden's trophy room are only there because yor was part of the team. she excels at sports.
• no one really wants to approach a guy from westalis first and loid isn't particularly talkative. he keeps mostly to himself—until this girl in class speaks to him. apparently, the teacher paired them together for class. not that loid hears her at first, too fixated thinking she'sprettyshe'sreally pretty. they finish their activity without any issues, and yor admits that she's been wanting to approach him for weeks because he looked lonely on his own.
• franky is in a different class, fiona is his junior, and sylvia is his senior.
• yor herself doesn't have many friends (and the ones she does have aren't all that nice to her), so she can empathize with loid. while loid himself didn't feel lonely, he finds yor quite pleasant to be around. they quickly grow close.
• loid's favorite subjects are history and literature. yor's favorite subjects are pe and arts.
• yor's parents aren't home a lot of the time. she ends up going to loid's mom for advice/help.
• i've never had those so i'm not sure what they're called, but you know those classes where students learn how to take care of a household (as in, doing cooking, finance management, etc)? so, that's where loid finds out just how terrible yor is at cooking. he exchanges their dishes so she won't get scolded by their teacher. yor gets quite emotional about it and vows to do better.
• it's not uncommon for loid to bring cookies he's baked to yor. since they can't eat them during classes, they try to be subtle about it. it turns out they're great at being sneaky.
• yor's grades start improving after spending time with loid. in turn, loid is not as stressed anymore. they balance each other out.
• when he starts thinking of yor in a less platonic way, he does absolutely nothing about it. it's yor that holds his hand first. she pulled her hand away in 0.2 seconds, but she did it! he becomes a little braver after that. not much though. he might get kicked. it happened to some guy that confessed to yor, or so he heard.
• he thinks he might kiss yor during a summer school festival, but she almost passes out after eating from the same spoon as him.
• high-school age loid has real beef with middle-school age yuri. it's a little embarrassing for him.

The First (Dumb) Twiyor Fight Chapter by ao3 writers...l mean, by Endo 🤣
First, don't worry Yor, most of us have made a fool of ourselves in front of our crush 🤭 Nice to see she remembers 👍
Tumblr media
Right: Asking your wife if she slept well.
Wrong: She didn't drink heavily. She just has very low tolerance (opposite of Twilight who has plenty of alcohol tolerance).
Wrong: Loid doesn't have a gripe about you oversleeping. And the girls are not right.
Wrong!: You don't need to have a mandatory gripe just because someone has a gripe.
Wrong (Overthinking alert!): Yor is not drowning away her sorrows in alcohol 🤣
Tumblr media
Yor: Loid is upset at me because I'm not upset about anything 😱!
No, Yor. Men are uncomplicated creatures. The less amount of complaints, the happier they are.
Tumblr media
Remember this big monologue about how good Twilight is at reading his wife?:
Tumblr media
How did we go from that to this:
Tumblr media
Twilight's face is priceless 🤣🤣🤣
Twilight: What do you mean l don't make you happy 😱😢?
Wow, it really looks like a legit fight from here...
Tumblr media
By the way, this is how Twilight sees his wife: 🙂 little ball of sunshine 🌞
Tumblr media
Thought like a true (married) man: apologize first, find out what happened second 🤣🤣🤣
The poor man doesn't even know what his wife is talking about but there he is apologizing...
Tumblr media
Okay, this is important. I think this panel is foreshadowing!! When everything is discovered, Yor will probably be very upset at him for lying to her and there's a chance Twilight is going to say this to Yor. Meaning: He's going to show her how much she loves her with his actions and dedicate his life to making her happy 💖
Tumblr media
Help me out: Did Twilight told Yuri to shut up or was it Yor? I don't see her saying that to her little brother, so it must have been him 🤔🤣
Tumblr media
Well, look who's having some nice character development 😏 lt's great seeing Yor set some boundaries with her brother. Our girl is becoming an assertive woman 😌 Well done,Yor!
Tumblr media
No, Twilight, you don't get it. Yor is not going to slip and say her marriage is fake because for her it's not fake anymore. This whole dumb fight is about one very important thing: Yor wants her marriage to be normal. That's why she tells Yuri to butt out and calls herself Mrs. Forger. (Even Yuri notices it).
Tumblr media
Replace "patients" for "spy work" and Yor has a point. And after hearing this, Twilight will do his best to spend more time with his family 😁 That's how the ball will start rolling 😏
Tumblr media
And look who watches cartoons with Anya 😏 He's more like an older sibling than an uncle 🤭
Tumblr media
Yor isn't fake married anymore. That's why she's relieved her husband is not cheating on her. And yes, not having gripes is a good thing! (Alcohol is bad for relationships )
Tumblr media
There's more serious stuff to talk about in this chapter but I'll do a separate thread for that with a couple of fun theories 😉

(Very late) Christmas special! Yuri Briar
Tumblr media
Yuri Briar x Fem! Reader
Beware! This fic DOES contain SPOILERS for the manga and for the Yuri Briar x Fem! Spy! Reader series: An Alliance (part 1)!
This can be read with or without reading my Yuri Briar x Fem! Spy! Reader series: An Alliance (part 1).
Series information: Setting is AFTER the reader rejoined WISE (so Yuri and [Y/N] are married and [Y/N] becomes an official double-spy).
This is NOT a replacement or part 10 for the Yuri Briar x Fem! Spy! Reader series!
Tumblr media
The city air smelt like hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts. The town’s street lamps were decorated with yellow christmas lights and green wreaths. Children squished their faces against the cold windows of toy stores, gazing at what they want on their Christmas lists. Candies filled with marshmallows and peppermint advertised at the local grocery store. Yuri and I strolled through the town hand-in-hand, looking for gifts for the Forger family.
“Do you have any idea what they’d want for Christmas?” I questioned, looking into store windows for anything that caught my eye.
“I’m not sure. Yor said that she was fine with anything.” Yuri spoke, just as lost as me.
“Well what about Loid and Anya?” I asked, turning my head to look at Yuri.
“Do we have to buy them gifts?” Yuri grimaced.
“They’re family.” I huffed. “Don’t be mean. And don’t even think about going to the Christmas party with an attitude to Loid. I’ll whack you.” I threatened.
“I don’t even know what we’d give Loid. He’s so… reserved?” Yuri spoke. “He doesn’t talk much about himself other than work.”
“I see what you mean.” I hummed. “So work is obviously an important thing in his life.”
“His main priority should be caring for Yor…” Yuri huffed.
“We can talk about this later. The shops will close early because it's Christmas Eve, so we have no time to be complaining about stuff like that.” I pointed out. "Loid values work, we could get him something for work. Like, maybe a new journal to write notes? He is a psychiatrist after all.” I suggested.
At least his public cover is. I thought to myself.
I tried to think more deeply on what Twilight likes without accidentally revealing to Yuri that I know him more than just his sister's husband. Of course I know things about him that Yuri and Yor won't, I did basically grow up with him almost my entire life, so I consider him like a brother and my best friend. The more I thought about it, the more I realized I basically knew nothing of Twilight's interests or hobbies. He's always been so work-oriented compared to my laid-back nature.
My realization led me to questioning everything I knew about Twilight. Is the personality I've associated with him almost my whole life a cover personality? Am I such a bad sister and best friend that I don't even know his favorite damn color? What he likes to do in his free time?
While I had an internal existential crisis, Yuri dragged me out of my thoughts.
"Hey, there's a bookstore over there. We can go find Loid's journal there?" Yuri suggested, pointing his finger at a small bookstore.
"Yeah, okay." I nodded, dragging Yuri into the store with me. "Along with a journal, we can get Loid a book too. I'm just unsure of what types of books he'd enjoy."
"We have to get him more than one gift?" Yuri sighed, obviously displeased at the idea.
"Just wait till we get to Anya." I hummed. "She's a child, so she should get the most presents."
"When I was a kid, I didn't celebrate Christmas." Yuri pointed out.
I did. Growing up as a West spy, the Handler would put time aside and host a Christmas party at HQ. She made sure to give small gifts to all spies (most likely to avoid promotions). Since I was a kid and the youngest on the team, she made sure my gifts were a little more special than my fellow spies. I remember the first year I joined WISE, she gifted me a warm sweater with comfortable short fur inside and the exterior was soft and gray, along with a raspberry candy cane. I cried so hard that day because I was so touched she bothered getting me something despite our relationship being something of a teacher and student. Now a days, I see her more of the closest thing I have to a mother in my life, and I make sure to give her a present every year too.
Speaking of the Handler, I need to find a gift for her too. I might be able to sneak out later and buy something while Yuri is sleeping. I thought to myself.
"Maybe a book on psychology?" Yuri questioned.
"No. I wanna get him something for him to enjoy that's not all work-related." I spoke.
Besides, me and him already know quite a bit of psychology as it is. I thought.
Maybe something like mystery? No, he'd figure out the mystery too quick. Suspense? No, he'd just get mad at the character's decisions for being stupid. Romance? Nope, he seems to have little interest in the subject. Maybe something dystopian? Eh, we've faced a war together and live under oppressed governments with the possibility of war, we have our own silent dystopian going on. Maybe something involving self-help, like how not to be robotic. It'd be a good gag gift, but like I said, I want him to enjoy it. Historical? No, we know just about everything in history.
"Ah! Science fiction!" I exclaimed loudly.
        "Like... robots?" Yuri questioned.
"I dunno, maybe. I think Loid would enjoy the genre." I spoke.
        "How so?" Yuri questioned.
"He's smart, he is a psychiatrist after all. He'll probably like something that's mixed with reality but still have hints of fiction in it. Smart people like smart things like science! It'd be something to get his brain working and still enjoy it." I spoke.
"Pssh, anyone can listen to a person's problems and give out solutions." Yuri huffed.
"That's not all they do, Yuri. They also—" I paused, deciding it wasn't worth going in depth. "Ah, never mind. Let's just find something good for him to read."
Me and Yuri walked to the science fiction section, looking for anything that caught our eyes. Yuri didn’t exactly do much of the searching since it included being “too buddy-buddy with Loi-Loi” so I did the searching myself.
“Oh, what about 1984? I heard that was good.” I spoke. “I remember hearing it was featured in the newspaper, it’s relatively new, published in 1948.”
I might steal this after Twilight finishes reading it. I thought to myself.
        “Yeah, sure.” Yuri spoke.
“Hm… what do you think Yor would like? I was thinking of giving her a new set of earrings as my gift. What’s on your mind?” I questioned.
“Well… she likes apples, specifically this Whistle Candy we had as kids, the apple flavored ones.” Yuri explained.
“That’s a good start. We can go to the market and buy those.” I smiled. “I want to stop by a jewelry store and buy her a set of gold earrings, I noticed her jewelry was gold so I figured she’d might appreciate it.”
“You noticed.” Yuri spoke, tears in his eyes.
“Why are you tearing up?” I questioned, a little confused.
“Just… you’re so thoughtful of her too. She loves you so much as her sister-in-law so it’d make her so happy to know you paid attention to her interests.” Yuri cried, wiping his nose.
I resisted the urge to tell him I was observing her to make sure she wasn’t an obstacle in STRIX’s mission or a hazard to Twilight’s mental health (now that I’ve spent time with her, I’m aware she’s a wonderful person, but I was on my guard when we first met, especially knowing how hard she can hit someone).
“Of course I care, Yuri. She’s family to me, just like Anya and Loid are.” I smiled.
The names of his sister’s husband and daughter leaving my lips immediately dried his eyes and made him grimace. “Blegh…”
“Wow. I should use that more against you when you’re upset if it makes you forget what you were crying about in the first place.” I smiled, a little impressed.
“Don’t you use those two… imbeciles... against me.” Yuri threatened, a glint in his eyes.
“Yeah, yeah.” I hummed. “Let’s find an empty notebook now. I'm thinking something blue, or blue and white."
Yuri nodded as we walked together, looking around to find a journal. I've seen empty journals in bookstores before, so surely this bookstore can't be an exception. I took Yuri to the front of the bookstore where there would usually be little souvenirs or many pens. I found a plain midnight blue journal and held it up to Yuri.
"What do you think?" I questioned.
"Looks like a journal." Yuri spoke.
"Helpful." I hummed sarcastically, before opening the journal.
I felt the texture of the pages and the cover, along with the page colors, the spacing and colors of the lines, and the sturdiness of the spine before deeming it acceptable.
"Okay, Yuri. Let's go pay for these then we can go for Yor's presents." I spoke.
Yuri nodded, grabbing my hand as we walked to the cash register together.
"How about you pay for Loid's and Anya's gifts, and I'll pay for Yor's? Her earrings will probably be expensive." Yuri spoke.
"I mean, I have certain earrings I'm looking for, so I can buy them." I explained.
"No. I got them. Loid's and Anya's gifts will probably tally up to around the earrings price." Yuri explained.
"And you wanna buy your sister's presents yourself?" I smiled.
        "Yes." Yuri admitted quickly.
"Well, if you really insist." I sighed, deciding it wasn't worth fighting him.
When we got to the cashier, I took out my wallet from my purse and handed the cashier the amount of dalc they wanted from me. The bagged the books and handed it to me, telling us "happy holidays" as we left.
"Okay. Let's go to the jewelry store first, then the grocery store for that whistle candy you were talking about." I hummed, rearranging the fluffy red scarf wrapped around my neck.
Yuri nodded as I grabbed his red mitten, having him follow me. During our walk, I looked around at the shop windows to see if I could find any present for Yuri. I wasn't exactly sure what to get him; he was a pretty simple guy who'd love just about everything I'd give him, but I wanted to give him something that was actually meaningful and something he could really enjoy. The problem is Yuri doesn't have many interests besides Yor and work, so I'm really limited with potential gift ideas.
"Why are you glaring at me like that?" Yuri questioned, confused.
        "I'm cold." I lied.
I'm glaring at you because you're a troublesome brat to make happy. I thought.
"Even in all those layers? We'll be at the store soon enough, so don't worry." Yuri spoke.
I nodded, thinking of what I could get him. Maybe he likes whistle candy like Yor? But that's so boring, not to mention unoriginal since we're getting Yor it. I could get him something like a candle? But that's not long lasting, and I have no idea what his favorite scents are.
"Yuri, I'm thinking of changing my perfume sometime soon. What do you think I should go with?" I questioned.
"I don't know? Something floral or citrus like most perfumes? It's your perfume." Yuri hummed.
"Yeah, but I want your input. You're my husband so I don't want to get a scent you don't like." I explained.
"I doubt there's a perfume that I don't like. Just don't have it too strong?" Yuri spoke.
Sometimes I wanna punch his stupid face for being so damn hard to shop for. Seriously, how can someone simple be such a challenge to shop for? Even Twilight is easier to shop for!
Yuri and I walked to the store to get the whistle candy Yuri said Yor liked. During the time, I thought of what good gifts Anya would have. I wanted to spoil the kid and give her a good Christmas. I've always wanted to be a cool aunt but now that I lost my entire family I can't do that anymore.
No, I didn't lose my entire family, only a part of it. I still have Twilight and the Handler, and Yuri and Yor and Anya. My mother is still out there too, somewhere in this world. The thought left me feeling a little better from the other sudden intrusive depressing thought I had.
Anya likes peanuts and stuffed toys, I know that. She likes that one spy tv show too, whatever it was called. The episodes I watched with her are a little interesting, I might watch it myself to be honest (perhaps I can learn a thing or two I'm unaware of). I briefly thought about getting her a coat or a cute dress, but then I remembered being a kid and disliked getting clothes as gifts. She does like sweets too.
Oh! They have dog too! I remember Twilight telling me about that, trying to train it to attack on command. Apparently the dog is a rescue from Project Apple, where he was trained along with many other dogs to become highly intelligent military animals. I wonder if the dog is huge and scary, like a German Shepard or a Pit Bull with that kind of reputation? Hey, maybe I can convince Yuri to get a dog or a cat!
Wait, focus. We're here for gifts.
"Yuri, when we get the candy let's go to the toy section next." I spoke.
"Aren't you a bit old for toys?" Yuri smirked, earning him a glare from me.
"Shut it." I huffed. "It's for Anya, I wanna see if there's any good toys around here she might like. I always wanna get her peanuts and stuffed animals."
"Peanuts?" Yuri spoke, making a face. "What kid wants peanuts for Christmas?"
"Apparently Anya." I shrugged. "Don't question it, kids are weird and have weird Christmas lists. Besides, it's better than like, I dunno, a 20 dalc dolly or something."
"I guess that's true." Yuri hummed, grabbing a bag of candy from the shelves.
It was the whistle candy Yuri was talking about. It's comes in a pack of eight circular candies with a hole in the middle. Yuri grabbed two apple flavored packs, holding them in his hands since we didn't grab a cart.
"Hey, it looks like the American candy Life Savers!" I pointed out. "This whistle candy you speak of, does it actually make you whistle?" I questioned, glancing at the candies.
"Yeah. You can whistle through them." He nodded.
        "That's cool." I smiled.
I took a look at all the candies, grabbing a few chocolate peanut candy bars and other candies like gummy bears, Fun Dips, marshmallow Circus Peanuts, and Jolly Ranchers before my eyes spotted a familiar and bittersweet candy—M&M's.
"Oh hey, I remember these!" I spoke, grabbing a tube. "Hey Yuri, do you know how these were invented? Or more specifically why?"
"Wasn't it something about the war?" Yuri questioned.
"Yeah. During the war, normal chocolate bars couldn't be transported or eaten because it'd melt in the heat, so Ostanian soldiers couldn't eat them. Forrest Mars Sr copied the idea of Rowntree's Smarties, a British-made sweet small chocolate candies covered in hardened sugar syrup, when he saw soldiers from the Spanish Civil War eating them." I explained. "I had a buddy who would eat these like no tomorrow." I chuckled, before frowning.
Well, I guess he did eat them like no tomorrow, cause he's not alive anymore.
I remember infiltrating a small town and killing a couple Ostanian soldiers. Rancher was looting the bodies to see if there was anything interesting or see if there's any extra ammo that matched his gun model. While he didn't find ammo that could be shot with his gun, he did find a small brown and tan tube with the title "M&M's" on the tube. He opened it and ate one of the small candies, then he became hooked and popped them in his mouth like a pill junkie. Sometimes, I think he killed soldiers just to see if he could find some of that candy on them.
Yuri noticed how my smile faded and patted my shoulder, an attempt to console me. While it didn't quite work, I was happy to know he was trying, especially considering that war was where he potentially lost his parents and started his hate for the West. He doesn't talk about them, but I can naturally assume he lost them in the war considering Yor was the one who raised him.
"Do you have a favorite flavor?" I questioned, breaking the silence.
His hand left my shoulder as he thought, before speaking, "Maybe cherry?"
I nodded, making a mental note in my head for later.
"Well, we got the candy. Let's head to the toy section and see what's there." I smiled, keeping the M&M's in my hand along with the other candies I grabbed.
We both walked to the toys as I tried and figured out what toys I wanted to buy for Anya. I didn't want something lame or boring, and I didn't want to give her something too generic that every other kid has. Knowing Twilight, he probably got her stuff that's popular with the other kids along with things she liked, I wanna give her something meaningful other than snacks.
I noticed the toy guns and thought about getting her a toy cap gun, a small toy that made a small bang to represent a bullet and came with it's own bang roll cap refill that even made a smell, before I realized that not only would they have to purchase more paper roll caps every time it ran out, but I also didn't want to influence her with violence and guns (especially after I heard about her punching Donovan Desmond's son, Damian). I thought about those toy handcuffs, before realizing how boring they were since she couldn't really do anything with that when playing alone. Maybe snap-its? Nah, I don't want her throwing it at her parents or other kids, not to mention the hassle it is to clean them up. Maybe I can code a little morse robot for her to learn morse code (by me coding, I mean Franky).
I decided to ditch the entire idea of spy things in general, she's too young for such things, and I don't want her to start getting suspicious of Twilight and I's second-lives, children have an insane ability of calling out bullshit and having some damn accurate hunches. Maybe if I find pajamas or a jacket of her spy show, I'll buy it.
I grabbed multiple different teddy bears, a blue one (Twilight), a pink one (Anya), a red and white one (Yor), a red and black one (Yuri), a white one (their dog Bond) and a grey one (me) to represent her family. You can't do much with stuffed animals, so I grabbed other toys too such as a rainbow slinky, a Candy Land board game, silly putty, dominoes, and some coloring books.
"Does a kid really need that much toys?" Yuri questioned.
"Yes. Yes she does." I nodded. "This is her first Christmas with us! Christmas is a day that kids are always thinking about, she deserves a good one."
"Well, if you think so." Yuri sighed, deciding not to fight on the matter.
Yuri carried most of the toys while I carried most of the candy. I noticed the struggle between us and mentally scolded ourselves for not getting a basket, it sure would've made this whole process easier.
"Why don't we get a wagon?" I questioned. "Like a toy wagon for Anya?"
"That's stupid. What would she use that for?" Yuri questioned.
"Don't call it stupid without hearing what I gotta say." I huffed. "It can be used to carry her toys around the house, or when she's out and about with Loid and Yor, she can sit in the wagon as they roll her around—it's cute and convenient." I explained.
"Sure, whatever you want." Yuri waved off.
Yuri just doesn't understand the importance of Christmas. For an energetic and cheerful kid like Anya, Christmas probably means a lot to her. I remember when I was a little kid and still had the income, I was excited for Christmas too; Yuri probably stopped caring for Christmas when Yor started raising him instead since they would need to direct their funds to something nonessential that doesn't include food or shelter, so I can see his perspective on this matter.
Even though he doesn't quite care about Christmas, I still want to be able to buy a gift for him, I mean, I have some festive spirit this year and I'm excited to spend Christmas in a place that's not Wise HQ with people I have genuine attachment to outside of work.
Me and Yuri grabbed a red toy Radio Wagon, placing all of Anya's (and Yor's) candies and toys inside of it. I also grabbed a classical music and a IIse Werner vinyl record for Loid. I thought and decided that I'll come back to the store later when searching for Yuri's gifts, that way I can get Franky and The Handler a gift too. We grabbed red and white striped wrapping paper (Yuri’s choice) and white snowflake wrapping paper (my choice, along with green and blue ribbons. We also grabbed Bond some treats, I heard he was a big dog so I got him large bones and chew toys.
Yuri rolled the wagon to the receptionist as I followed, paying for all the gifts and gift paper. We paid and left the store, heading to the jewelry store next. I wanted to get Yor a set of earrings. I noticed she wore gold spike-like earrings (the only set I've seen her wear really), so I wanted to get her a different pair instead, a pair where me and her match together so that the gift is meaningful. Yuri rolled the wagon down the streets as I guided him to a jewelry store, opening the door for him so he can walk in with the wagon as I advanced.
"Do you have a set of earrings in mind?" Yuri questioned.
"Yep. I have a perfect vision for what I want." I nodded.
I spent three days going to every jewelry shop to try and find the perfect set of earrings for Yor that I actually liked and that would match her taste. It took some work and searching, but I found The Set. I lead Yuri to the jewelry shop I wanted to go to called "Himmlischer Ketten."
"The wagon is probably going to be troublesome inside of the shop, so you just wait outside with it, okay?" I spoke.
Yuri looked at me with a blank face, thinking, before making a pout.
"But I wanna see what you're buying for Yor." He whined.
"I'll show you after I pay for it. I'll be in and out in a flash, you'll barely know I left." I smiled.
Yuri sighed, his pout still relevant on his face but it had decreased, "Fine. Just hurry up."
I nodded and walked into the store, looking around to find the set of earrings again. I found the ones I was looking for and told the jeweler, grabbing my wallet from my purse and payed for the price. I also got the second set of earrings so Yor and I could match together. She handed me the two boxes of jewelry inside, handing them to me in a small bag. I walked back out to Yuri and placed the bag of jewelry inside the wagon where the rest of the gifts were.
"How much did it cost?" Yuri questioned.
"One hundred dalc in total." I answered.
Yuri reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet, handing me a bit over 100 dalc.
"Whaddya doing?" I questioned as he took my hand, placing the currency in my palm.
"I told you earlier that I'd pay for the jewelry." He spoke.
"Yeah, but it's my gift to Yor." I pointed out. "Besides, I got a set for myself too."
I can very well pay for it too since I'm working two government jobs...
"Consider it one of your Christmas presents." He reasoned. "Besides, you spent enough at the store for Anya and Loid."
"Wow, you actually said his real name without much thought." I chuckled, causing him to glare at me.
"Shut up. It just came out of my mouth before I could stop it." He huffed.
        "Sure, hon." I smiled.
"Doesn't matter, let's get home and get these presents wrapped." He spoke quickly, changing the subject as he rushed ahead of me, dragging the wagon with him.
He can be such a tsundere at times... I thought. Though I guess it's a little endearing in its own stupid way.
I followed Yuri back to our apartment, getting home and wrapping the presents in our chosen gift papers we bought. Yuri did the wrapping while I placed bows and ribbons on the boxes since it turns out, I'm terrible at wrapping presents. I wrote the names of who the presents belonged too (most belonging to Anya, but it's still fun to write the names).
Yuri and I conversed as we did our own assigned roles together.
"You sure like going out for Christmas, huh?" He commented.
I hummed, thinking of the comment and what to say to that.
Perhaps I'm making up for loss time? I don't have a family I can spoil, so I should spoil this one while it lasts. I might not live long being this double-agent, whether I get backstabbed from one of my jobs (most likely the SSS), or whether I die on a mission, or even just some sickness or such, I want to die knowing I at least meant something to someone, or die someone I can be semi-proud of. It's not like there's much I can ask for in life after all I've done, or even deserve much really. Sometimes I wonder if I should even be allowed to enjoy myself with this family, even if it'll potentially be my death.
Oh well, I guess it's a bridge I'll cross (or jump off) when the time comes.
"I like Christmas. I like the pretty lights, the snow, and buying presents for people I care about." I spoke, deciding to go for a simple answer.
It's not technically a lie or anything, so I'll go with it.
Yuri nodded, cutting wrapping paper for one of Anya's stuffed animals to wrap with. "Well, I think it's kinda endearing. You seem very excited when you were choosing the gifts, and I could tell that you were putting much thought into it."
I blinked, surprised at his sudden adoring words.
"Are you tryna get something outta me? Like a hint for your gift or a kiss?" I joked teasingly, choosing to ignore how my heartbeat sped up at his words.
"I don't got any ulterior motives. I was just pointing out an observation of mine." He huffed, his face turning red.
"Well, thanks." I chuckled. "I guess I just like Christmas so much since I didn't really experience much of it as a kid."
That's true, even when I still had my parents, Christmas wasn't much except a few toys and candy. Buying presents for five kids a lower-class town like Luwen, it was hard to find money to spoil my siblings and I with when we had to pay for necessities like food or water.
"Well, you can experience it more now." Yuri smiled. "Besides, Chihuahua Girl will probably appreciate the gifts, even if she is spoiled enough just being in Yor's presence." He huffed, envious of his niece's everyday life.
"You're weird." I sighed, placing a blue bow on one of the white snowflake-wrapped gifts. "But I guess that's kinda my fault for agreeing to marry you." I chuckled, writing Anya's name onto the present.
"I'm not that bad." He huffed. "I think I'm a pretty good husband."
"Whatever floats your boat." I teased, causing him to send a pouting glare at me. "I'm just messing with you, honey." I laughed.
"I know that." He lied defensively.
"Sure." I hummed. "Let's finish this up so that we can make some desserts for tomorrow. I don't want Loid and Yor to do all the cooking."
He nodded, agreeing. "Yeah, I'm ready to get all this done and go to bed so we can see Yor." He smiled.
"And Loid and Anya." I added.
"Ugh..." He groaned, his face contorting into disgust. "Yeah... those two."
We continued finishing up wrapping the gifts until we finally finished, heading to the kitchen and preparing sweets and appetizers together. When we finished, we put them in containers and aluminum foil, calling it a night. While Yuri slept, I carefully snuck out of bed and changed clothes, sneaking out of the apartment to go get gifts for Franky and the Handler. I got the Handler red camellias and dutch chocolates with a red envelope that has a thank you card and 100 dalc. I got Franky the same thing too, except I gave him an extra 100 dalc so he could have extra money for his inventions.
Speaking of Franky's inventions, I decided to go to Franky's place to give him his gifts (and get a favor out of him). After spending the whole day with Yuri and trying to figure out what to get him for Christmas, I finally came up with the perfect gift idea. I walked to Franky's apartment and knocked on his door, waiting a minute or two before he opened the door.
Franky looked surprisingly awake for it being two in the morning.
"Oh? I didn't expect you to be awake." I spoke, a bit surprised.
"I'm working on some new inventions. Did you need something?" Franky questioned.
"Actually, I have something for you..." I spoke, handing him yellow roses.
"Oh? Really? Thanks!" he smiled, accepting the bouquet. "What's the occasion?"
"Merry Christmas." I cheered. "Did you forget or something?"
His face paled as he turned his attention to the calendar on his wall. "It's Christmas Eve already?!" he exclaimed.
"What?! You didn't know?!" I shouted back, surprised. "How long have you been cooped up here working your ass off?!"
"I don't know?! Maybe the 14th? Or... or like the end of November?" He spoke, his brain looked to be scrambled.
"Sheesh man, take a break from work." I suggested (more so demanded).
"Yeah... Good idea..." He sighed. "Uh, you wanna come in?"
"Yeah, I got a favor to ask anyways." I accepted as Franky opened his door wider, allowing me to slip in.
"Just don't mind the mess." He spoke, having no embarrassment.
It's not the first time I've seen his place like this. I've known him since the war, and we rekindled when I joined WISE, so I've seen him in this pitiful state many times. A good inventor is always has a scrambled brain (or workspace).
"So, what's the favor? Do you need me to get intel or something?" he questioned, sitting down on his blueprint map-scattered couch.
"I actually need help learning something." I spoke. "You know how to weld, right?"
"Of course I do. I've invented all sorts of powerful and useful machines and inventions." He smiled pridefully, glad to boast.
"Can you teach me how to weld? I wanna make something for my husband for Christmas, and I wanna do it myself so that it's more meaningful." I explained.
"Huh... So Twilight was lying when he said you and Briar's marriage was fake?" Franky commented.
        "Oh..." I paused, thinking.
Well, shit. I kinda completely forgot about that.
"Well... we got recently engaged, however it's best not to tell Twilight. You know how he is, 'don't form attachments' and yada yada." I spoke quickly.
"Yeah, that's Twilight there." He spoke, before smirking pridefully. "Once again, you and Twilight come to me for help, pleading for my assistance."
"Dude, don't start it." I sighed. "I don't got time for this. I gotta get this done in at least six hours, so I need you to help me get it done as quickly and as perfect as possible."
"Six hours?!" he spluttered. "How do you believe that I can teach you all about welding in six hours?!"
"Don't teach me everything! Just what I need to know to get this done!" I retorted.
"Fine. Fine. Let's hurry up, I wanna get back to my inventions as fast as possible." He sighed. "Do you have an idea on what you're trying to make?"
"I got the perfect thing." I nodded.
Franky helped me create the perfect gift I had in mind. Surprisingly, it ended with not much cuts or burns, so I feel happy about that. I only needed three band-aids for my fingers! I gave Franky an extra 200 dalc for all the trouble. In total he's received 400 dalc from me for Christmas, so I don't ever want him to complain about helping me again. I also convinced Franky to give my gifts to the Handler since I wasn't going to WISE's HQ anytime soon (and I didn't want to be stuck giving an update on what's going on with the SSS. I want to enjoy the holidays, not think about work).
I made it back home to Yuri and I's apartment, deciding to ditch sleep since Yuri will be awaking soon; I don't want him to know I snuck out while he was sleeping and if I sleep now then I certainly won't wake up in time for the Christmas party. I changed back into my pajamas so that it looked like I never went anywhere, and I used some light makeup to hide the evidence of no sleep under my eyes. I decided to get started on breakfast since I wouldn't be sleeping, making apple pancakes, sausage, and coffee.
Yuri came out of our room in his pajamas and bedhead, looking a bit tired but refreshed (compared to how I currently feel).
        "Morning." He yawned.
"Morning, hon." I smiled, placing breakfast on the table. "How'd you sleep?"
"Slept good, though it felt a little cold last night..." He spoke. "Must be cause of the winter weather."
"Yeah, I thought the same thing too." I agreed, ignoring the fact he was so in tune with my body heat that he subconsciously knew I was missing during his slumber.
"What are you doing up so early? It's unlike you to be awake in the morning." Yuri questioned, taking his seat at the dinner table.
"I was so excited for the Christmas party, I couldn't sleep." I lied, taking my own seat at the table.
Yuri and I ate our breakfast, Yuri doing the dishes afterwards since I cooked. To pass the time, we did our own things such as reading and watching TV in the living room together, waiting until it was time to get ready and leave.
When it was time to leave, I changed out of my pajamas and grabbed a grey coat and red scarf to protect myself against the cold. Yuri and I grabbed the sweets and appetizers we made together yesterday; pfannkuchen, bethmännchen, and bratkartoffeln.
Yuri and I walked to the apartment, Yuri dragging Anya's wagon filled with all the gifts while I carried all the food, my gift for Yuri inside of my purse. We made it to the apartment and I watched Yuri struggle to find a good angle to pick up the wagon and carry it up the steps (no, I didn't help him, I wanted him to suffer a little since it was so hard trying to find the perfect Christmas gift for him). When we got to the Forger's front door, Yuri knocked for us, being greeted by Twilight and Yor.
"Yuri! (Y/N)! Welcome back! Always good to see you!" Yor greeted, a big smile on her face.
        "Hi-ya, sis!" Yuri cheered.
"Thank you for coming. Come in." Twilight spoke, opening the door further, causing Yuri to glare at him once he realized Twilight was present.
I placed the food down on the table as Yuri placed the wagon near the Christmas tree in the living room. Anya was sitting on the ground near the TV watching her spy cartoon while the Forger's dog laid next to her.
"Hi, buddy." I smiled, crouching down and slowly placing my hand near his nose so he could sniff me. "You're a good boy, huh?" I spoke, petting his head as he let out a 'borf!' "Hi, Anya." I greeted, sitting down on the couch as Yuri took a seat next to me.
"Hi, Auntie." Anya spoke, keeping her eyes on the TV screen.
Yuri looked disinterested in the show while I stared at it every now and then. Yor joined us on the couch and talked with us as Twilight was in the kitchen cooking, jumping into the conversation easily whenever he pleased. After an hour, all the food was done and ready, allowing us to eat Christmas dinner together and converse with each other. Twilight and Yuri talked about business together (Yuri sending him his infamous glares) while Yor and I talked with Anya about her cartoons and how school was for her.
We finally got to presents and watched Anya open her gifts, each one she unwrapped having a big smile on her face and her voice getting to loud enough volumes to potentially disturb other residents.
Yuri and I gave Twilight his gifts. He seemed appreciative of them, mentioning how he'd put them to good use. Twilight gave me a book and Yuri an expensive bottle of wine (to repay him for the expensive wine Yuri bought the first time we came over).
I gave Yor the set of earrings I picked out, a set of golden suns, and showed her the golden moons I bought and told her the symbolism of us matching and being sisters now. It was enough to make her cry and earn one of her death hugs. I'm almost 99% positive that she would've broken my rib if Twilight didn't calmly tell her to not squeeze so hard. Yuri also gave her the apple whistle candy along with some other gifts he bought her. In return, she gave me a fruity perfume and Yuri a comfortable sweater.
Anya was happy about all of her toys and candies, excited and hyper about it all. It was like it was her first time celebrating Christmas. Even Bond was happy, showing his joy by jumping up and down with Anya and barking (borfing). Bond seems like a surprisingly emotionally intelligent dog, though I supposed that's probably expecting considering it's Twilight (and because Twilight got him from the Project Apple situation).
We all stayed and talked more before it was time for Yuri and I to go home, considering how late it was getting. Yuri and I walked back home, getting to our apartment before I gave him his gift.
"I got you something. I made it myself." I spoke, reaching into my purse and handing him a small wrapped up box.
Yuri opened it, revealing a small square card, made out of pure silver (just like our wedding rings) and a small poem on the card
Your eyes shine like the twinkle of mars, How I wish to claim and explore every part of you as if you were a new constellation. Your lips are like warm pillows, How I wish to forever rest my own against yours. Your voice could never compare to the delicate silk of Asia, the waves of the Pacific, or the luminous of the Aurora Borealis. How you make me lose my voice to utter sweet delicacies in your ears, so let me express it to you in another way: I love you, Yuri Briar...                                                                                    - Love, (Y/N) Briar
"I just found a stupid poem for you..." I muttered, suddenly feeling a little flustered for how stupid and cheesy the writing sounds now.
"You liar." He smirked, a noticeable fondness in his eyes. "Thank you. You said you made it yourself?"
"Yeah." I nodded. "It took some time, but I made it from scratch. I welded the silver together and welded the words... Of course words from a poem in a book." I coughed the last part out.
"You don't gotta be shy~" He teased.
"Whatever..." I chuckled. "But I figured I'd get you something you can always have with you. You can put it in your wallet or pocket or something."
"Thank you. Really." Yuri smiled, grabbing his wallet and placing it inside gently. "You really beat me this year in presents." He chuckled. "I kept tryna think for a while what I should get you, you're surprisingly difficult to shop for even though you're so expressive."
        "I'm a little eccentric." I smirked.
"That's an understatement." He smiled. "But, here."
He walked to our room and I heard him rummaging through drawers, before walking out with a large heart-shaped chocolate box, candies I enjoy, some books he noticed I've been eyeing over the months, and some fake flowers.
"it's definitely not anything compared to what you got me." He spoke.
"Nonsense." I smiled. "I love all of it. I really do."
"Yeah, I knew how much you liked sweets and books." He reasoned. "And I figured it must be a bit annoying replacing the flower bouquets whenever they die, so I decided to get some fake flowers, to make it easier to tend to, and to show permanency in our relationship since we're married."
"How romantic~" I teased. "Thank you, Hon."
        "Merry Christmas, darling." He smiled.
"Merry Christmas, love." I hummed, kissing his cheek.
"You know, you didn't have to get me anything. You're the best gift for me, (Y/N)!" He spoke, a light blush dusting his face.
"Yuri please, never say such sappy words again." I sighed.
Tumblr media
I apologize sincerely for the huge delay! I had a hard time trying to figure out what I want, and I got busy indulging myself in reading about German foods and such, and I had little time to write due to work so the only time I had to write was when I was supposed to be sleeping or relaxing, but I finally got this done! Better late than never!
I honestly do feel a little silly writing that poem since it's my first time ever writing poetry/a love note, so I do hope it wasn't too bad or cringy!

two things i believe must be avoided at all cost when talking about anime is misogyny and incest. It never ends well for anyone involved because no one is willing to take the l and admit that what they're watching is fucked. But i'm an asshole so i will.
One of my favourite pairings in sxf is Yor and Yuri (PLATONIC) but my least favourite pairing is also Yor and Yuri. There are two sides of it: the actual relationship vs how it is actually portrayed in the manga
**Now this is media analysis and social commentary. It's not about me or what i think. IT IS ANALYSIS. I hold this pairing very near and dear to me and i want better for them but you cant improve if you dont know what's wrong in the first place. this is about what's wrong. not me.**
The actual relationship: an interesting plot about two siblings who have to manage their shared trauma and learn how to have a healthy, non-codependent relationship with each other. It's complex, it can really add layers to Yor as a character and just overall elevate the story in a wonderful
Then there's how it's portrayed: Yor has a weird and clingy brother hehe who is obsessed with her because she's his sister.
There is a lot to be said about the portrayal of the relationship and the different social connotations it pulls from. And a lot of this has to do with the subtle individualist natalist ideology present throughout the series.
tldr: the story wants to portray yor and yuri's relationship as something perverse and unnatural in order to stigmatize sibling relationships in adulthood. also misogyny hehe
On one side: it's done for cheap laughs, it sexualizes Yor (that would require a whole other post) and it make Yor out to be some poor weak defenseless soul who can't even set boundaries with her own brother
On the other more in depth side: it is a rejection of the extended family model. it takes what could just be a close sibling relationship and morphs it into something so perverse and uncomfortable.
Individualism and the nuclear family have a joint impact on siblings. It encourages competition and separation. There's a reason they normally portray it as a girl and a boy. Within the nuclear family, children should not have a relationship with each other only with the corelating parent. It is expected that your children will grow up and branch off into their own personal families and stay apart.
And so media tends to stigmatize adults (especially of opposite relationships) have close bonds to their siblings. It is again seen as a flaw or almost childish. A well adjusted adult won't even speak to their siblings or touch them.
And then Christianity gets in the mix and purity culture and it just falls into chaos.
Yuri's affection for his sister is treated as a very childish attitude. His love for his sister is so strong it hinders his ability to even do his job right. Being around his sister makes him act stupid and juvenile.
His attachment to Yor is also implied to negatively impact her. She joins the Garden for his sake. He's blocking her from being with Loid in a genuine way. Their relationship blocks Yor from being a woman and so it's seen as growth when she pushes him away for Loid and Anya, adapting to her role as a mother and wife.
And that's not to say Yor cant have boundaries with him but Yuri is written in such a way that the only reasonable boundary is to cut him off. And while that can happen greater context makes the whole thing feel icky. You can give them a more nuanced relationship without getting rid of what makes their dynamic so interesting (ie the codependency) but the story isn't interest in that narrative.
And this is not exclusive to sxf it is a common problem in anime and other forms of media. When you have a culture that sees grows as separating yourself from your family, incest becomes very common as a way of compensating for it. If you're constantly being told that it is inherently sexual to want a relationship with someone... then shit like this comes about idk what to tell ya

Anime only watchers and people who aren't caught up with the Manga, BEWARE... Cuz I'm about to discuss Spy X Family Mission 86... You have been warned...! 👌
[SPOILERS AHEAD FROM THIS POINT ON]
KYAAAAAAAAAAAHH!! 💗 THIS CHAPTER, OH MY GOD...!!! 😆😍😆
Today's chapter has marked the end of the mole arc and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! 😆So let's talk about it, shall we...? 😏
The chapter begins where the last one ended, with Fiona BEATING THINE ASS of Wheeler...!! 😆 When suddenly, someone tells her to stop...:
Tumblr media
And it turned out to be Twilight!!
I honestly didn't expect that he was gonna get up this soon...! Especially after everything he's been through in these past few chapters...!! ✊😤
But because Twilight is up now, Fiona, of course, rushes towards him! Only to land flat on her face (because her broken leg...!! 😌)
After that, Fiona starts freaking out (in her head) about the possibility that Twilight heard what she said to Wheeler, while Twilight thinks that she's mad at him for being taken down by Wheeler...!! 🤣
But after all that silliness, Twilight brings up how he believes that he might actually be losing edge which leads to this conversation:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PART!! 😭
Not only did Twilight bring up why he couldn't kill Yuri and frame it as though it was only to protect the mission, but Fiona was able see past his "For The Mission" shtick yet again...!! Everything about this part was *chef's kiss* 👌
After that amazing part, Agent Mustache (still disguised as that SSS agent whose name I don't remember how to spell 😅) comes to get Fiona and Twilight out of there (and also Wheeler...!!) But since Fiona's leg is broken, she has to be carried...:
Tumblr media
...BY TWILIGHT!!! 😆
Which she understandably freaks out (in her head) about...!! 👌😌 (I know I'd probably freak out too if Twilight carried me-- 😏)
Uhh, anyway...!! Twilight finally gets home (after Agent Mustache offered to get some drinks with him but declines) and is greeted by his beautiful fake wife, Yor...!! 💗🤗💗
Tumblr media
...AND HE COLLAPSES TO HIS KNEES!! 😆 (Probably because of Yor's beauty...!! 😏)
But Twilight was able to get back, only for Yor to tell him that she wasn't really upset with him and he ends up like THIS...:
Tumblr media
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂MY MAN IS LOOKIN' GOOFY RIGHT NOW!!!
Loid then tells Yor that he'll need her help around the house for a few days, which makes Yor happy and she tells him why...:
Tumblr media
MY HEART!!! 💗😭💗THIS WAS BEAUTIFUL AS WELL...!!! 💗😭💗
When suddenly, Yuri shows up...!! 😵 AND THIS HAPPENS...!!: 😱
Tumblr media
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS CHAPTER...!?!? 😵 ENDO JUST KEEPS GIVING US SUCH FANTASTIC MOMENTS...!!! 😍
I did not expect Yuri to show up AT ALL!! 😆 And his reasoning for backing off of suspecting Loid was just amazing as well...!! (KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK, ENDO!!! 👍)
And then... I died... Because...:
Tumblr media
Twilight... SHIRTLESS... IN THE SHOWER!!! 😵
Tumblr media
Shiro-S2E2-Erukinzu.exe has stopped functioning. Must reboot... 🤖
...
...rebooting... 🤖
...
...reboot successful. 🤖
GAH! WHAT HAPPENED?! 😲 Oh right!! *Ahem* as I was saying... The chapter comes to a close with Yor catching Twilight's shirt on fire from ironing it...!! 🤣🤣🤣
And that was Mission 86, such amazing end to an amazing arc...!! 😆 I can't believe how many amazing moments were pack into this one chapter!! 😁 It really solidified this arc as my favorite in the series thus far...!! 😊 You knocked it out of the park again Endo!! 😄
Speaking of my favorite moments, I really wanted to know what Twilight was gonna say about Yor when he was taking about his weakness...! 🤔 But, I'm pretty sure that we all have a pretty good guess as to what he was gonna say...!! 😏
MAN!! THIS CHAPTER IS SO GOOD, I COULD TALK ABOUT IT FOR HOURS...!! 😆
But, I don't have that kind of time... 😌 So I guess I'll just say my goodbyes now...!! 😁
As always; take care, be safe out there and spread kindness...!! 💗🤗💗 I'll see you all in the next Mission...!! SEE YA!! 👋😄

They're already far but still far.
Majority of the posts I'm seeing about the new chapter is always about Loid's love for Yor. It's sweet and nice, I know. I'm just as happy. I respect everyone's cheer for our beloved ship. But, I simply don't see it the exact same way as many others do.
Of course I'm not pretending like I've forgotten that Loid spared Yuri or that he dodged Fiona's further questioning. It's just that Loid could have simply done that because Loid feels like he owes Yor something. Also, because Loid doesn't take Yor for granted, who is supposed to be someone to be used for mission's sake. Loid respects Yor, that's obvious. And perhaps he thinks it wouldn't be fair if he killed Yor's only family.
I'm not saying that it can't be love. My point is that it can be anything else other than love. It can be "trust" or "reliance", both of which can be applied on the situation. Wheeler said not to trust anyone but Loid trusts Yor when it comes to Anya. And this chapter, Loid had just put some reliance on Yor by asking for a favor. Their interaction in this chapter is definitely a big milestone but at the same time, still ways to go. I know that everything of this will lead them to love but not yet.
What I'm waiting is, for Loid and Yor to have some sort of intersecting point that will eventually lead things towards the romantic path.
Am I pertaining about jealousy? Not necessarily. Mutual hardship? Maybe. Lol it could be even Anya, since she is their matchmaker. Just any plot mechanism that will pull them both towards each other.
And since I'm already on LoiYor/TwiYor love game I'll just be putting my bet on who does first–
The first one to fall in love is Loid.
The first one to realize their feelings first is Yor.
The first one to confess... maybe Yor.
Loid have dealt with many women but Yor is nothing like them. Yor herself said that she's "abnormal" and Loid himself admitted that Yor throws him off balance. And even more than that, Yor brings out many sides of Loid and gently peeling her way to his heart. Loid will keep on thinking about her words and action and unconsciously will fall for her. Loid will probably have a hard time accepting but well... he can take care of himself with that anyway.
Yor is simple minded and quite slow at times. She is simple-minded most likely due to the fact that her assassin job makes her work in a simple manner. Of course she has to analyze the target but there's only one goal, that is, to kill. That comes with exceptions like during the Cruise liner arc but still, Yor doesn't deal with lots of mind games as Loid do. So when Yor finally falls in love too, it will be like a clear sound echoing within her heart. And Yor is a very honest person so eventually she'll try to talk it with Loid or more likely do a drunk confession.
That's all I have to share. My thoughts have been bothering me nonstop while I was taking a bath. Thanks for reading

Tumblr media
I did it again. I'm drunk in front of Loid.
I know I shouldn't but I couldn't say no to Millie! I have to keep a good relationship with my coworkers and learn to act normal. They said that drinking after work is normal!
"Yor? Were you out drinking with your coworkers?"
"Hm? I'm shorry. I… My corwokersh said it'sh nowmal to afterwork drunk. Shorry, Loid… Art you mud?"
"Don't worry, I'm not mad. What's important is that you're not feeling unwell and nothing bad happened."
I nodded slowly.
"O… Okay… I'll make tea-"
"No, let me do it. I'll make for both of us so you can sober up a little. Or do you want to rest now?"
"Tea ish fine. Thenksh Loid."
I watched him.
Do I deserve this man at all? Even when he's tired from work, he takes care of a drunkard wife like me. Maybe I'm the one leeching off our deal. While he's good at everything, I can barely cook and I'm only good at cleaning. Even after many times he's assured me, I still keep on downing myself sometimes.
I love Anya and this family. This place is so warm and comfortable. Especially when…
"Loid?" I called once he's done.
"Yes?"
My mouth stayed silent. I think moments have already passed but my mind is blank. Did I answer at all? I can't remember. But he smiled at me. That, I know he did.
Even when we drank our tea, I couldn't think straight. I don't even know if I talked at all. We were both silent.
As much as I want to stay a little longer, I already finished my tea and it's time for me to rest.
"Tenksh for the tea, Loid. I'll go to my woom."
I thought after drinking tea, I'll feel better. But when I rose from my seat, the world started spinning again and I felt like falling back right away. Carefully walking step by step, I tried to cross my way to my door.
It's wiggling! When did our floor become shaky? No, no, no! To the left, then to the right…
I can't figure out which side I turned to, but the first thing I saw was Loid. He caught me so swiftly and grabbed me by my shoulders.
He's so close to me… It's making me so-
"This way, Yor."
"Hn? Loid? I'm fine. I cam walk. The floor ish jush shakey! I think there'sh earthquake. Be careful Loid!"
"You're just drunk. The floor will be back to normal once you're sober. Don't worry."
And in every step, I started leaning more towards Loid.
His warmth is just so comforting. And his smell… He smells like minty soap. Staying like this doesn't sound bad. Would Loid mind if we do?
No no no no, Yor! He's just your fake husband! Have some respect for his dead wife!
"Yor? Is there any problem? Is something on my face?"
"H-Huh?! N-Nothing!"
I was staring at him?! Yor! You must stop!
Just when I thought we're still far, we finally came in front of my bedroom. Loid opened the door. The time seemed to stop, we stayed there standing.
"Get your rest now. So you can forget this once you're sober." He finally said.
"Furget wha-"
Before letting go, he leaned and kissed the top of my head. He…
He did what?!
"Good night, Yor."
Before I could speak, Loid was already gone.
No way I can forget this, can I?
I changed my clothes and prepared to rest but I could only think of what Loid did. Was that a goodnight kiss? It's normal right? I used to give Yuri goodnight kisses too when he was little. It's normal, I guess…
But still.
This is probably just alcohol, this confusion I'm feeling in my chest. I have been telling myself over and over that whatever I feel when I'm with Loid is simply caused by our situation and the tension around us. But this feeling is hurting me the more I suppress it.
What if it's just me who's only fazed by everything?
I shook off my thoughts and did not dare to go on any longer. If I do, I might as well totally lose my mind and let my words loose for him to hear.

Episode 31 reactions!
Okay, first off, mind. blown. There's some VERY good action in this one!
Yor's coworkers are at the "Well, we're still better off!" jealousy stage. It's a small thing but something I can definitely see people like them do. Sharon seems to be the most passive-aggressive one, so it was a bit revealing that she was the first one to go like "Hey I got beer and sausage, I'm not jealous at all!" Our truest selves come out in the hardest times...
A very beautiful shot of the ship!
Tumblr media
By the way, if Yor's coworkers knew what she was going through, they'd definitely stop being jealous.
Tumblr media
Yor appears a little too nervous, if you ask me. Granted, we only saw her once before working, and when she was imagining what she'd tell Anya she sounded quite secure in her abilities. But now that she's been living in a family, her way of work has indeed changed, if anything else because she's worried they may find out the truth about her.
At first I thought McMahon had kicked her in the shin, but upon rewatching I realized he kicked the leg of the chair. I'm sure if it were the Shopkeeper he'd probably kick her leg, if not stomp down on her foot just to get her to focus.
Gram was sneezing again? Should I pay attention to this or is it just a baby being a baby?
Yor is smart to try and think how the enemy would think in order to be prepared for their plan, but she doesn't take into account the fact that some of the assassins are actual psychopaths who don't care about taking innocent people's lives in their effort to do their job. That's what being too kind of an assassin will do to you XD
Tumblr media
And it's driven to the point even more with Yor being cute like that - and probably remembering the times she played with Yuri when he was little - and Olka saying she doesn't look like a criminal. She really doesn't. Sweetest assassin ever <3
The "mmm" Yor made at the end was the exact same "mmm" Anya made while stuffing up her face with food XD
Tumblr media
Loid is not impressed, and this is only the beginning.
It's so fun having the actual, physical copy of the manga in front of me as I watch the episode! I notice here that when Anya talked about Yor missing, she also told Loid "You miss dinner all the time", but the anime omitted that. STOP DENYING US THINGS!
Anyway, Anya calls him out for catching feelings, and Loid is quick to drop his voice a couple octaves to show how secure he is.
Tumblr media
I AM NOT LONELY I AM NOT.
Sure buddy, sure.
The office guys are on the opposite side of relaxing and actually enjoying themselves on this trip, going out and drinking a little too much, while the "Greys", Yor and McMahon are walking on eggshells.
The anime team obviously had enough time available for this chapter, as they have a couple of added lines from the office guys, so I doubt they omitted Anya's line about Loid missing dinner due to time issues. I wonder what might be the reason - it's not like they're trying to make us think he doesn't miss dinner? We know the guy's schedule is tight as a drum.
Anyway. Assassin-ing time and holy shit.
Tumblr media
I'm pretty sure I gasped at this.
And the rest of the scene, of course!
Obligatory mention that it's been proven time and again that torture is not an effective means of interrogation. People can and do lie while being tortured for information, so the things they say may or may not be accurate. Torture may make them speak, but whether they speak the truth or not is another issue, unrelated to torture itself. So while there can be various goals of torturing someone (illegitimate, of course, like punishment, making an example out of a "traitor", or in very few real-life cases, gratification), obtaining information has proven to not be a feasible one. I understand the point of the scene was to show McMahon's abilities and to establish that there are multiple people on board after Olka, I just needed to say that.
I've been certain they'd go the "dumping bodies into the ocean" route. A cruise is a great setting for that!
The knock on the door was intense! Especially since it's put right after the scene of McMahon and Furseal walking back to the room, but just those few seconds of slowed down tension make you think "Oh no. It's not them. It's them".
I expected the "Oh, it's just room service!" and of course, I expected the "I didn't order any" reply.
Great animation of the attack and Yor protecting Olka and Gram though I'm begging the animators to look a bit into trigger discipline, at this point whenever I see a gun my eyes go immediately on the trigger and I go D: whenever there's a finger on it that shouldn't be
But oh, McMahon is good, and resourceful!
Tumblr media
The assassin points his gun at them, Furseal freaks out while McMahon marches on.
Tumblr media
We also finally see one (1) eye under the reflection of his glasses. I get that the reflection makes it easier in animation and such, but still I appreciate this detail, especially in such a moment.
And more action! Yor being a badass and at the same time caring for the baby!
Tumblr media
"I can excuse murder in self-defense but I draw the line at scaring a baby"
THE GUY WAS STILL WIGGLING. WHILE HE HAD A DAGGER THROUGH HIS SKULL.
(probably last uncontrollable movements from his dying nervous system but still. it was fucking chilling and I love it)
Also, I can understand Yor being strong enough to break the door. But I think it takes a different kind of strength to throw an object, even a sharp one, and make the object break through the door, a human skull, and then latch onto a wall. Absolute unit.
Seeing the body was freaky, too! If I'm correct, I think this is the very first time we see a person being murdered on screen in the story.
Ah no wait we do see a guy in the second episode getting a dagger to the back and falling down. But it was much more palatable than seeing a dagger go through someone's skull and practically nailing him to the wall.
I'm gonna think about this for a long time, lmao. It was brutal!
Tumblr media
I just noticed this on my rewatch! McMahon is wearing a ring in the shape and place of a wedding ring! He then goes on to tell the ship's services that the "mister and missus had a fight" though in the manga he says "me and my wife" so is his cover that he's on board with his wife?
Tumblr media
And here's the same thing that shows Yor's side. She sees assassins as people doing their job and "cleaning out trash" especially in her case, not people who do this job just because they have no issue killing.
I mean, I don't want turtleneck guy to defeat Yor, but he's got my respect for now.
He also says there are other members from the gangster family on board? Just how many people did manage to get on this ship XD
The eavesdropping guy tells turtleneck guy that he sells his information equally and practically tells him good luck getting ahead, so now I'm thinking, there's another eavesdropping guy, or is he selling all his intel to other assassins that weren't there in that scene?
Also, good luck getting them to work together without getting greedy and/or paranoid, lol
Tumblr media
Furseal was actually blushing while wearing the mask XD and the plague doctor mask on the baby!
The poison guy thinks he's some dude. He has no idea who he's dealing with.
Tumblr media
This arc will be perfect for creepy shots of Yor, won't it XD
Furseal asks for his button back and dude! Priorities much? This button saved all your lives XD
Blonde mask guy tries to go for Olka right in the middle of the crowd like wtf and the moment Yor grabbed his hands I went like "BREAK THEM. BREAK HIS FINGERS." And then she did <3 We stan <3
Tumblr media
That's it. That's their dynamic in one shot.
While Anya is having an overdramatic tantrum, we see how even when Twilight is trying to not be on the lookout - he even says he just has to stay away from suspicious people - his skills are so fine that they kinda work subconsciously. He spots the listening devices (I mean, there are a ton of them) and notices all the suspicious people even if he doesn't make a conscious list of all of them.
Then Twilight has a fucking breakdown over one (1) silly keychain. I mean it is a skeleton keychain so his mind immediately went "IT'S EITHER THAT OR MY OWN DEATH" is anyone even surprised
Tumblr media
Anya is still learning how easily Twilight overreacts. And like the scene with the sandbox in the hospital, she realizes she caused him a little too much anxiety and tries to take some burden off.
Tumblr media
This entire tension is going on and Twilight is still stuck on whether he should buy a stupid keychain. This man is incapable of relaxing, you tell him to relax and he goes like "Okay spy mode on standby, parent with anxiety mode is on".
Tumblr media
I love how this reads a bit like "Papa considers hating frogs as much of a dealbreaker as being an assassin!"
It's so weird - though fitting - to think that Anya believes she can keep this up indefinitely. She has no idea how easily they could discover each other's identities and believes she can stop that from eventually happening. It makes sense for her age, though.
It's also a bit sad, how quick she is to think that she would be abandoned if they found out about each other. It's probably what makes her go "I have to keep this up as long as possible". Her young mind can't comprehend an alternative.
And oop! Taking part of the next chapter too, I see!
I might have lost it during these shots.
Tumblr media
"You go around having battles" is definitely something Anya would come up with. It's why she's so hard to write and why Endo should receive an applause for how accurate to her age and experience he writes her.
Next, Twilight's biggest foe; the unreadable expression of a five six year old who is trying to take responsibility for her actions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love how when Twilight is facing actual danger and difficult missions he's all cool and collected. Meeting Desmond? Piece of cake. Taking down entire groups of people aiming guns at him? No problem. Anya acting unpredictable? THE WORLD IS ENDING.
However funny the scene is, it slowly drifts into a sadder territory. Twilight actually worries over Anya's mental state, and though he has no idea Anya is having the time of her life, there must be a part of his understanding of her trauma that is true. Now why he undermines completely his own trauma... It's projecting, isn't it?
Anyway, he concludes that the Handler knew from the beginning that Anya needs some vacation in order to recover from her trauma, and for some reason, instead of going like "Yo give her a break" she conjured up this entire idea for a vacation... But in reality, the Handler was only saying that in order to justify his time off in paper.
Like, the man can be so off sometimes that I want to shake him and then hug him because god I cannot imagine going your entire life like this and not even comprehending the idea of actual time off.
Anya: Have fun! Twilight: Cannot compute!
Tumblr media
Like yeah it's funny but how am I supposed to not feel just a little bit sad with how he's completely unfamiliar with the concept of relaxing and having fun 😭😭
Tumblr media
This is going to be a disaster XD
Anya prepares to run for it, realizes he can change and wear everything within seconds, and freezes... But then Overanalyzing TwilightTM takes control and he starts spending long minutes in front of the mirror freaking out about how his weird ensemble will manage to fix Anya's mood.
This truly is his most difficult mission. Anya is the perfect age to teach him about how sometimes he cannot control how people will react to his manipulations... and then there's the mind-reading, too.
Anyway. I love how Anya goes like "That's not how I expected to win some time but it works" and just steps back into the corridor XD
OH MY GOD
Tumblr media
I love me a good fight choreography! Here Yor pushed Olka down from the shoulders, and at the same time pushed Furseal's knees to the front so they'd bend and he'd go down just enough to miss the sickle. Awesome!
The guy just starts a fight right in the middle of the crowd. And Yor has no choice but to stop him, Anya has to hide and also keep Loid from coming out of the store...
That IS a very interesting cliffhanger! I nearly screamed when it ended there, lol. It even ends in the middle of the page! I had to cover it with my hand to avoid spoilers XD The things I go through in this crazy experience XD
Overall, awesome episode! Though I felt that the Twilight panicking scene dragged on a bit. I don't know why. Maybe it's just that I'm an angst ho and I wanted a bit more angsty vibes from that scene. It's not bad, but maybe I still haven't realized just how much on comedy the show belongs in. It has a peculiar but for some reason very efficient balance on everything.

Another thought on chapter 86 and a possible implication for the future
They brought up the whole 'couldn't move on this overtly' thing again this chapter, so I can't help but think it's significant somehow
Tumblr media
Here's the SSS guys talking about it earlier for reference
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While it's possible that tge SSS guy is correct in that the the current admin just wants to be able to deny the op, the fact that the WISE spy squad is somewhat surprised by them keeping the op on the down low does suggest that mobilizing the police wouldn't have been out of character in the past.
I suppose this could all just be signs of relations slowly thawing between the east and the west.
Then again, and I'll admit this is a bit of a reach, perhaps the director is afraid of getting offed by Garden or something if they find out about this op? There's still a lot we don't know about Garden - like we don't know what vice minister Brennan from the auditing department did to earn him a visit from Thorn Princess in the beginning of the manga. If we assume that Endo was trying to setup a parallel between Twilight and Thorn Princess in the beginning of the story, then I'm inclined to believe the vice minister was doing something that could restart the war. Twilight saves the Ostanian foreign minister who I assume was helping to keep the peace, while Thorn Princess takes out the vice minister who I assume was trying to restart the war.
If the above assumptions are correct, then perhaps Endo is setting up a conflict between the SSS and Garden, or maybe just setting the stage to have Thorn Princess take out their director or something. Perhaps we'll get a twist where Yuri just so happens to be in the room with the director when this all goes down and Yor will also end up sparing him when she should have killed him (although her getting into a situation where she really should kill someone like Franky or Fiona for being in the room with the target when she shows up, but spares them for Loid's sake, may be the more satisfying scenario.)

I was surprised we got another Yuri-focused chapter so soon, considering we just finished the Mole Hunt arc...but it was a good chapter nonetheless!
Tumblr media
Chloe is a great character to help with Yuri's development, the reason being because she not only knows his true identity, but she also has known him for many years, as this chapter reveals. Unlike his superiors, Yuri seems more comfortable with Chloe, probably because she doesn't have authority over him, but she's also not afraid to point out his flaws. So yeah, I'm glad she's becoming a reoccurring character. Yuri really needs someone he can talk to with whom he doesn't have to hide anything from, but who also sticks with him despite knowing how cringe his personality is. I do hope we'll see more of Chloe bringing out Yuri's relatable side in the future.
Tumblr media
Speaking of which, Twilight has Franky (and Sylvia somewhat) who fills this role for him - someone he can talk freely with who knows his true identity, but they also sense the goodness in him that he tries to hide. Yor, however, doesn't have anyone like this, at least not yet. Olka filled that role well during the cruise arc, but it's very unlikely we'll see her again. While McMahon and Shopkeeper know Yor's true identity, their relationship with her has been very business-like, not casual like Twilight/Franky and Chloe/Yuri. It almost seems like Melinda could fill that role for Yor, except for the important detail that she doesn't know Yor's true identity...OR DOES SHE???
Anyway, back to today's chapter, we find out that Yuri can also withstand getting hit by vehicles, and both siblings can smell/sense the other's presence!? And yet, a slap from Chloe hurt Yuri more than getting hit by a truck?! I would say that's too much, but I guess it's not that unusual for characters in shonen series 😅But I have to agree with Chloe on this line...
Tumblr media
I also find it a bit sad that Yuri thinks Yor wouldn't like the idea of him having a girlfriend. I wish they discussed more about this, but it just goes to show that, as close as Yuri and Yor are, there are some very obvious things about each other that they don't know. Of course we as well as Chloe know that Yor would be happy if Yuri is happy with a girlfriend, or any friend really. But to Yuri, it seems like having an intimate relationship equates to not being diligent enough at his job, maybe? Or maybe he thinks Yor would see it as a betrayal of his dedication to her? Either way, he's flat-out wrong about that obviously. Hopefully he'll realize it someday.
Tumblr media
I cracked up when we got the glimpse of all the Yor photos in Yuri's house 😂 I hope Anya visits his home one day...would love to see her expression about this! (also he names his attacks after Yor too, I can't 🤣)
Tumblr media
Even though Yuri misunderstood what Chloe meant when she told him not to be so reckless, by the end of the chapter he did have a thought on his own about how getting rid of Loid would make Yor sad. Of course he tries to deny that by bringing up the gripes she supposedly had with him, and of course Yor, who's always so flustered about her feelings, can't straight up tell him that she likes/loves Loid. So back to square one I guess...?
Tumblr media
But even though this chapter may turn out like the last one and just be a standalone that doesn't lead to the next big arc, I can't help but think it's hinting at a "Yuri discovers who Twilight really is" scenario. For all we know that could be the first identity reveal of the series. It makes sense since, unlike identity reveals among the Forgers, this wouldn't necessarily result in the series heading towards an end. Even if Yuri discovered Twilight's identity, he could choose to keep it to himself for a while and nothing else would change. I don't like to speculate too much, but I feel this is a possibility with all the "Yuri vs Twilight" mentions we've had lately.
Tumblr media
As always, just gotta wait and see!

Chapter 86 Thoughts
OH MAN. OH MAN. WAS THIS CHAPTER REAL? HOW WAS IT EVERYTHING WE ALL HOPED FOR???
- Twilight comes to, and he finally takes that damn mask off!! And he looks pretty good for having just got his ass beat
Tumblr media
- Fiona flops (literally)
Tumblr media
- They decide to leave Wheeler alive, and this makes me wonder if we may see him again at some point. He escaped WISE's clutches once, could he potentially do it again? It's also interesting that he now has an important piece of information on Nightfall herself, which would probably be very effective blackmail material.
Tumblr media
- I wanna talk about this for a sec because I had brought up the toy knife panel from Ch 31 a few times throughout this arc to show that Fiona's love for Twilight is not conditioned upon him being 'perfect', and that she wasn't going to snap out of her obsession with him over losing to Wheeler as some people has said. So I was kinda happy to see a call back to that exact line this chapter. I get that her wanting him to be 'perfect' would be a nice juxtaposition with Yor telling Loid that he doesn't have to be perfect later in the chapter, but I think Nightfall's feelings are truly more complicated than that. While she may not know him as well as she thinks she does (because Twilight's family is uncovering a side of him that even he didn't know about), her feelings are rooted in respect, and I think she has a deep admiration for his determination and commitment to his goals. I also think there are components for her feelings that haven't been revealed yet. And that's okay- Nightfall's feelings don't have to be shallow to validate that Yor is a better match for Twilight than she is.
But it felt important to me that after all this time Nightfall spent being in love with him, she wouldn't just flip a switch after losing a fight. I'm still very much hoping she'll learn to accept that he's fulfilled by his family.
Moving on...
- Poor Mr. Old wise agent guy. No name, and no one to drink with 😢
Tumblr media
- Loid comes home to his actual angel
Tumblr media
- This scene is just everything. It's a bit ironic how Yor imaging Loid being so perfect in 79 when asked if she has gripes about him sort of is, in a way, a gripe. Obviously she very much appreciates what he does, but she doesn't want to be a burden. She wants a partnership, or you could say, a more authentic marriage.
Tumblr media
- Loid's next line very clearly indicates that he's acknowledged Yor is a point of weakness for him. However, I'm not so sure he can accept that he does not have to be perfect, and I think his cut off line may have indicated that. I think in future chapters we may see him try to withdraw, but I think he will find himself unable to do so.
Tumblr media
- And yes…. I'm actually excited for Yuri to show up for once??? I thought we wouldn't get a scene like this until a few chapters later. And even though Twilight's identity is safe for now, that seed has been planted in Yuri's mind, and that's significant.
Tumblr media
- Yor remains the cutest thing in the world:
Tumblr media
- Fun fact about the final scene: When Loid says "Pull yourself together", he's actually talking to ME
Just call me Nightfall bc I'm the most embarrassing Loid simp in the world.

sugar, spice, and everything nice

rating: G
genre: fluff, humor
synopsis: After the fifth time Loid turned around to see Yuri feigning immense interest in their coffee table, he sighed, long-suffering and in disbelief of what he was about to say. “...do you want to come see what I’m making?”
a/n: this is the first fic i'm posting that was not written in one sitting past midnight :D milestones yall! also i think the first fic which isn't twiyor centric? anyways i know some people love yuri and many, many people loathe him. i'm more on the neutral end, where i acknowledge he's a funky guy and if i ignore the weirder aspects of his love for yor and pretend its just intense attachment issues due to trauma etc then i think he's swell. i didn't really know how to write him since in the series itself he's used more as a plot device than anything else, and loid's view on him reflects that, so hopefully this doesn't feel too weird. also ending fics is hard im sorry 🙏🙏
anyways i've talked enough, one last thank you for everyone who leaves reviews and kudos, i don't get to respond to them but i do read them all and appreciate the love <3 enjoy
...
“Yooor!” Yuri sang as he shoved the door to the Forger residence open, bouquet of flowers in hand. “I got off work early so I decided to come… and…”
His voice petered out as he took a better look inside the apartment he’d just forcibly entered. The chihuahua girl and her polar bear of a dog were in the living room with some noxious cartoon blaring on the TV set. That damned Forger was in the kitchen, messing around with something that definitely didn’t smell good whatsoever. Most importantly, there was a glaring, offensive lack of Yor!
“Where is Yor?” He asked, accusingly pointing a finger at Loid who finally looked up from his work. “What did you do to her?!”
Loid’s eye twitched. What made Yuri assume he could just barge in whenever he wanted and find Yor waiting for him? “She got called out for a late night shift.”
“Don’t lie to me, you—” Yuri’s other senses finally caught up and he begrudgingly confirmed that whatever Forger was messing around with did smell good. Really good. And vaguely familiar? He sniffed the air deeply, trying to figure it out.
Anya looked up from her cartoons. “Are you acting like a dog, Unkie?”
“I’m not the dog here!”
Loid debated with himself as Yuri stood in the doorway, neither coming in nor leaving. The polite, Loid-Forgerly thing to do would be to invite him inside to wait for Yor to come back. That was what upstanding gentlemen, good members of society—far from the blacklists of the SSS— acted like; gracious, affable.
The thing was, he didn’t really want to.
He watched Yuri argue with Anya about dogs (“there’s an actual dog, and then you, chihuahua girl. I am a normal person!”) and groaned. Come on. What would Yor think if she heard Yuri came by and I turned him away? It would be no good if he displeased her. He had to do this for the sake of Strix.
“Would you like to come in?” He called from his spot in the kitchen, none too welcomingly.
(Doing it for the mission didn’t mean he had to be happy about it.)
Yuri was torn from his impassioned argument with a literal first grader. “Tch… I guess since I’ve brought flowers, I might as well put them in water,” he muttered. “No other reason!”
He came in. He split the gargantuan bouquet up into six different vases. He made some comments about how Anya’s cartoon was impossible according to the laws of physics. Then he just stood in the living room, trying—and failing—to act like he wasn’t peering at Loid’s activity in the kitchen, still loudly sniffing the air. Really, even if Loid didn’t have senses sharpened to a knife’s point, it would be difficult not to notice Yuri. To make matters worse, every time he turned back, Yuri would suddenly whip around and act like he definitely wasn’t loitering, the way they did in bad sitcoms. Is this the way the SSS carry out their own covert operations? he wondered.
Aside from Anya’s cartoon playing in the background, it was painfully quiet, the only sounds coming from Loid's activity in the kitchen. It seemed like Yuri wasn’t going to strike up a conversation, and Loid wasn’t inclined to, either. But then why is he just standing there?
After the fifth time Loid turned around to see Yuri feigning immense interest in their coffee table, he sighed, long-suffering and in disbelief of what he was about to say. “...do you want to come see what I’m making?”
Yuri squinted at him like he was affronted at the mere notion. “Hmph. I guess I could.” The speed with which he made his way to the kitchen offset his haughty tone. He glanced down into the various bowls Loid had set out on the counter, one filled with sliced apples, another with some uncracked eggs, and a third with flour, sugar, and spices laid out, but not yet combined.
“Apples,” Yuri said, almost dumbstruck. He forgot to keep the scowl on his face as he picked up an aniseed from the third bowl and brought it to his nose. It seemed like he finally found what he’d been sniffing around for. “You’re making apple cake?”
“Close,” Loid said, surprised by Yuri’s flip in demeanor. “Apple streusel pie. Do you make apple cake?”
“Not me. But… this smell is…” Yuri mumbled, smelling the anise. “I don’t really remember, but this thingy smells familiar to me.”
“It’s star anise. And people often say that smells are stronger links to memories than visuals,” Loid offered. “Maybe it’s something you used to have.”
Yuri’s eyes widened. “Oh. Now that I think about it…” He held the aniseed up to the light. “I think Mom put this in apple cake once, on Sis’ birthday.” He cut a glance to Loid. “Apples are her favorite.”
Loid knew—that was why he was making apple streusel. But he was more astonished at the fact that Yuri brought up an old memory to him at all. Right now, with Yuri looking at the aniseed with an almost wondrous expression, it struck Loid how much of a kid Yuri was.
Yuri was only twenty years old. When Twilight was twenty years old, he was still new to WISE, training hard and getting his ego beaten down even harder. He’d thought he knew everything there was to know back then.
Could he blame Yuri for thinking the same way?
For the first time, Loid found himself regarding Yuri with something that wasn’t annoyance. Sure, the guy was more attached to Yor than superglue, but again, could he be blamed? He was a kid clinging onto the only thing left from his childhood.
Yuri turned to him with a grim expression. “I think I should take over this baking project of yours.”
Any feelings of tenderness were dashed in an instant. “What?”
“Apples are Yor’s favorite, and I know her best, so I should make the apple cake.”
“Apple streusel. ”
 “Whatever!”
Loid resisted the urge to physically kick Yuri out of the kitchen. Don’t tussle with an SSS officer. Don’t tussle with your wife’s brother. Don’t tussle with a kid! “Are you forgetting the last time you came and destroyed the kitchen?”
“You may have won then, but I won’t back down from this fight,” Yuri hissed. Loid gaped, a headache building in his temples. Since when was this a fight?
“Is this round two?!” Anya’s voice suddenly piped. The two of them turned to see her standing by the counter, looking strangely excited. She’d abandoned her cartoons to stretch up onto her tiptoes to see the counter. “Papa versus Unkie?”
“We aren’t doing that,” Loid said at the same time Yuri declared “I’m going to wipe the floor with him.” They turned and glared at each other.
Bond trotted up to Anya and nudged her with his nose. She paused, turned to the dog, and then brightened up.
“I just thought of a way better idea,” she announced. “Let’s all bake for Mama together!”
“What?!” The evening was spiraling way out of control. All Loid had wanted was to make some apple streusel for Yor since she was working late so often and deserved a treat (because if she got too tired or fed up, it would reflect badly on their fake marriage). Now he was meant to bake with her hyperactive brother and his equally hyperactive daughter—two people with an entire lack of abandon in the kitchen?
“No way,” Yuri sniffed, and for once Loid wholeheartedly agreed—until he continued, “I'm gonna make such a good apple streusel Yor will forget why she ever married you."
“This is not your kitchen,” Loid said, patience evaporated. “You aren't making anything, not here at least.”
“What, are you scared?”
“I'm not going to argue with you about this—”
Anya sighed loudly and tutted as if she were an exasperated adult. “Mama will be happiest,” she said slowly, “if we all make it.”
That got both men to pause. Well, thought Loid, I am making this to cheer her up in the first place. Anya's not wrong…
Agh. If it makes Sis happier, then shouldn't I…?
Anya smiled in satisfaction. In the snippet of the future she read from Bond's mind, it seemed like everyone was getting along and Mama was smiling really wide, so Papa and Unkie had to stop fighting in order for that to happen. As fun as round two sounded, that future seemed better.
(Also, in that version of the future, everyone was too distracted and happy to notice Anya sneaking extra dessert. Double win!)
“Yay! What do I do?” Anya asked, eagerly hopping up on a stool. “Can I put the crumblies on top?”
“It's not time for that yet,” Loid replied. “Though you can help me make the topping if you want. Er, Yuri, if you want to get started on the custard, you can crack the eggs…”
“Right, eggs,” Yuri repeated before picking one up and smashing it into the bowl, shell splintering. Loid and Anya jumped.
“Not like that!” Loid cried.
“Even I learned how to crack eggs,” Anya unhelpfully supplied, leading Yuri's face to glow red. Loid felt a tinge of pity (he knew how Anya's words could burn firsthand) and cautiously asked, “Did you ever learn to crack an egg, Yuri?”
“It was fine to do it this way before Yor ate your food,” he mumbled in response. Loid was silent for a few seconds before turning to the fridge and pulling a fresh egg out. “This is how you do it.” He demonstrated over the bowl, noting how Yuri carefully tracked the movement. “Tap gently enough to make a crack in the shell. Then pull it apart like you're opening it. Yor learned this way too.” He threw the empty shells away before adding, “Not everything has to stay the way it was before, you know.”
A muscle in Yuri's jaw jumped, but he said nothing and instead set to cracking the other eggs, a little clumsy but decidedly better. Loid then got Anya to whisk the powders together ( “Gently,” he insisted, since it seemed Anya had some sort of floury vendetta) and he cut the butter in for the streusel topping. Yuri began haltingly asking for instructions on what to do next, which Loid was glad to provide.
Time passed like this, with Loid and Yuri slowly warming up to each other via baking. During the process of whisking, mixing, pouring and arranging apples, it seemed like Yuri forgot to be thorny with Loid, and Loid forgot to be cross at Yuri's presence. Anya, too, quickly forgot why she was helping at all and went back to watching cartoons, in wait for when the streusel would be ready for her to eat.
It was when a warm, cinnamon-sugary smell was filling the apartment and Loid and Yuri were cleaning up that the front door opened. Yor trudged in, tired and sore from the night's assignment and ready to collapse into bed. She froze upon seeing six fresh vases and a very familiar pair of shoes in the doorway.
The TV was playing one of Anya's cartoons, but the living room was void. Yor, weary and blood still pumping, immediately assumed the worst. Oh, no. What if Yuri came and got in a fight with Loid? What if he found out we're fake married?! Where's Anya? And—
She, too, had to pause and finally breathe in the mouthwatering scent hanging in the air. There was just something about it…
Abandoning all caution, Yor slipped inside, keeping her steps light just in case something really was wrong. But it smelled too good for there to be any real damage—was that sound logic, or was she just hungry? In any case, she made sure not to draw attention to herself as she poked her head into the kitchen.
“And for pots that have a lot of gunk in them, you can just boil a bit of water with soap and vinegar  and wait till it foams. Makes it easier to clean,” Loid was telling Yuri. “Yor taught me that, actually—oi, Anya, don't open the oven yet.”
“Makes sense.” Yuri was scribbling something down in a notepad, punching down on the dots and lines. “I'll triple-star that one since it's a tip from Sis.”
“Is it ready yet?” Anya was alternating between excitedly jumping in front of the oven and plastering her face up against the glass. Bond, too, was sat next to Anya with his tail furiously thumping on the ground. “It smells sooo good!”
“It'll be just a minute. Come on, back up from there, both of you.”
Yor was so shocked at what she was seeing that she dropped her purse, alerting everyone of her presence. They all gawked at each other; Anya and Bond were the first to react, scrambling up from their spots.
“Mama! You're back!” Anya exclaimed, hugging her mother's knees. Bond barked and Yor pet his head absentmindedly, still trying to process what she was seeing.
“I am,” she said faintly. “Yuri…? When did you get here?”
“Sis!” Yuri said, also snapping out of his stupor. He sheepishly tucked his notepad away. “Um, a bit ago, I guess. I came to visit you, but you were out, and…"
“Did you guys bake together?” Yor asked, daring to hope. Yuri and Loid exchanged a glance before Loid smiled.
“He's a quick learner.”
"Loi-Loi is an okay teacher, I guess,” Yuri reluctantly added. “We made apple streusel. Do you remember Mom's apple cake?”
Yor inhaled, closing her eyes. The memory was fuzzy, but distinctly sweet, as if the taste of the cake remained. “Yeah. This smells really similar.”
“Yuri had the idea of adding cloves and cardamom,” Loid said. “It worked out quite nicely.”
“Yeah, it was my idea,” Yuri said proudly. Loid rolled his eyes but said nothing more on the subject. No wonder it smelled so familiar, Yor thought. She could hardly believe Yuri even remember the apple cake. Or that he'd shared enough about it with Loid that they were able to replicate some of it in the streusel.
Something warm and sweet  was filling up in Yor's chest. Was it the sugar in the air? She breathed it in, cheeks apple red and sore from how widely she was beaming, previous tiredness all but forgotten. She hadn't realized how much she'd subconsciously wanted Yuri to warm up to her family before. Her family. His family now, too. It didn't have to be just the two of them.
“Ah—are you crying?!” Yor's eyes had gotten a little shiny, which naturally led to Yuri bursting out bawling. “I missed you toooo!”
The oven dinged and Loid pulled out the streusel as Yor joined them in the kitchen. As the adults got to chatting, Anya snuck around and victoriously stabbed a forkful of the piping dessert, blowing on it vigorously before chomping down. She grinned around her fork.

Victory was sweet.
