THE ISLAND
Read the entire fic on AO3
Chapter 11: On board
Ian and Anthony meet a boatload of sillies <3 Ian and Amanda meet again, Ian and Anthony reconnect, and they meet everyone on the boat (Lonely Island playing in the bg lmao)
Chapter word count: 1.580
Rating: general
âWhoa!â
The engine of the speedboat screeched to a halt as Anthony steered around just in time not to hit the oncoming boat. He did, however, splash green water all over it, dousing a tall woman who stood on deck.
âHey! What do you think youâre doing!â
âAmanda?â
âMister president?!â
âDo you know her?â
A couple more people appeared on deck of the trawler, all excited and surprised at the presidential encounter.
âYeah, she interviewed me a couple times.â Ian scowled at her. âAnd then she sold out to all those big companies she said she wanted to fight against!â
âNo, Ian! Please, I didnât! My editor ruined that entire piece!â
Damnit, even with her hair in a simple bun and wearing casual clothes â which were now soaked â Amanda was still a smoke show.
Anthony instantly joined in the argument on Ianâs side. âAnd you just let them write a false story in your name?â
âNo I didnât! I quit! Why do you think Iâm on a boat now! Wait. Who are you? Anyway, Ian, why are you on a boat? Why has the sea turned green?â
âWell...â
âAnthony!â
âNicole?â
As Ian and Anthony climbed on board, everyone but Amanda was âmister presidentâ-ing Ian, and Anthony got why he didnât like it.
Nicole pushed her way through the crowd, though, and pressed him into a hug.
âI thought you were dead, bro.â
âHey. Itâs okay, Iâm here. Iâm sorry I left without notice.â
Anthony addressed the rest of the group.
âSo⊠I miiight⊠have turned the sea green?â Anthony tried to look his prettiest so this bunch of silly looking people wouldnât kill him.
âAnd why would you do that?â Damien asked.
âUhh, to, you know, save the world and stuffâŠâ
âWhy is it green?! Itâs greener than Noahâs hair!â Olivia demanded.
âItâs algae, they are gonna clear up all the worldâs CO2 and lower the temperatures,â Ian said knowledgeably.
âNot all the CO2, but enough to reverse the climate disaster, hopefully?â Anthony was already doubting himself, and whether it had been a good idea or not.
âAnd why is the president here?â Angela looked genuinely confused.
âOh, there was a coup attempt, my plane crashed and my best friends are probably dead,â Ian replied. Only now did Anthony understand what Ian must be going through right now. He was apparently very good at hiding his feelings. And it had all gone so fast. Ian was out here at sea, alone. Anthony felt very protective of his new president friend.
âShould we call someone?â
âNah, I donât really feel like being president at the moment.â
A breeze picked up. Everyone breathed in.
âWow, is that a FRESH gust of wind?!â
âItâs working, Anthony,â Amanda stage-whispered, in awe.
âSo maybe we donât have to brainstorm anymore, itâs all fixed now?â Angela looked a bit disappointed at the thought.
âWe can still party at the island though,â Chanse winked at Angela.
âHaha, hell yeah! Letâs go to the island!â
âWhat island?â Ian and Anthony asked, puzzled.
~
It was a few days later. They were well on their way to the island. Ian and Anthony sat on the back of the deck. They were smoking. Both had a stubble and they wore loaned t-shirts and shorts. Anthonyâs curls were blown all in one direction, and Ianâs hair fell over his eyes, a very different look than the carefully coiffed wave he had made his signature.
âNO way dude, she was your girlfriend?â
âYeah, until we bumped teeth and the romance kinda died.â
They laughed.
âSo yeah, I follow a vegan diet and I do yoga to stay in shapeâŠâ Anthony did a few yoga poses, almost toppling over as the trawler hobbled over a big wave.
âThatâs hella impressive,â Ian complimented. âI canât do any shit like that.
âYou donât need to, youâre fit already.â
âLike hell I am. Anyway. I wish I had my phone, I have so many memes to show you,â Ian lamented.
Anthony was studying the middle tress of hair on Ianâs forehead. Its waywardness intrigued him.
âSo, whatâs the deal between you and Amanda? Sheâs pretty hot.â Anthony was gauging how Ian responded. Was he into her?
âYeah, I mean I guess I thought we had a thing, but itâs kinda dead now. Very dead.â
âBut she didnât write that article though.â
âTrue, but the damage has already been done you know. Ugh. I have such bad luck at romance.â
âMaybe youâre not looking in the right places,â Anthony said while moving closer to Ian. He wiggled his brows like a giant dork.
âAre you trying to get a presidential pardon for committing ecocide?â
âYeah, obviously!â Anthony laughed. But he moved closer still and licked his lips while reaching for the strand of hair. It was ever so slightly in the way of Anthonyâs first class view of Ianâs ocean blue eyes. Was âocean blueâ even still a thing?
Ian wasnât fazed by Anthonyâs flirting, though. And that excited Anthony more than he liked to admit.
âWhat are you willing to do for it?â
âAnything.â
âIsnât that kinda slutty though, like, have some standards, man.â
âNo. Iâm a slut and proud of it.â A wide grin formed on Anthonyâs face. He raised his eyebrow while squinting his eyes. He yawned, leaned backward and spread his legs as wide as humanly possible.
Ian sighed. âWhy are we stuck on this boat full of crazies, I want us to get out of here.â
Anthony raised his head. âUs?â
âYeah, I want to see what kind of slutty things you have in store for me!â
âIâm afraid we will have to go and live on that island if you want to stay hidden from the world.â
A cloud obscured Ianâs eyes for just a second. But then he smirked. âImagine we were on a dating show and these people were our only options.â
âEw! Ew, and we had to go on dates with them and shit.â Anthony laughed. It was such a wonderful sound to Ian, it was almost exactly like he remembered. He wanted it to go just a little higher, a little louder, all-outâŠ
âWho would you smash and who would you pass?â
âHmmm,â Anthony thought about it. He was having more fun than heâd ever had in his life. Ian was matching his freak to a degree he didnât know was even possible.
âI mean, Olivia is kinda pretty I guess?â
âShut up! Youâre not into her. I saw you checking out Amanda though.â
âNooo, dude, youâre projecting! I think thereâs still something going on between you guys!â
âI donât know⊠maybe⊠Whatâs going on between you and Nicole, though? You havenât talked about that story yet.â
âListen, I love Nicole. But weâre colleagues, that would be weird!â
Anthony was trying to remember everyoneâs names. âWhat about⊠Arasha though?â
âEw, too young!â
âOkay. What about Keith?â
âNow weâre talking. Iâd smash Keith. What about you?â
âIâd pass. Iâd smash⊠Okay okay! Iâd smash Amanda. She is kinda scary though.â
âTrue, isnât that the exciting part about her, though?
âAbsolutely. She could probably dominate us both at the same time.â Why did Anthony say that? He was really walking the line now.
âShe totally could! Sheâd make us do some butt stuff probably, to each other.â Wow. Ian was still one-upping him. Anthony couldnât help but laugh uncontrollably.
âThere it is! I remember that laugh! Dude, you would always laugh the hardest at my jokes.
âI thought you found it mega-annoying.â
âOnly when youâre being cocky. Actually, it was what I lived for in high school.â
âYou would always make the best jokes,â Anthony said, tears in his eyes from laughing.
âIâd try my best to be funnier than my friend group.â
âI wasnât really happy in mine,â Anthony admitted, the bitterness of the memory clearly showing on his face.
âNo, what was up with that anyway? I heard there was some drama.â
âYeah. It was basically a bunch of gothic kids who tried to out-emo each other. It was a hierarchy thing. I tried to stay out of it.â
âYou should have totally hung out with us, I mean, youâre pretty funny yourself.â
âAnd be a school clown and put tables on roofs and shit?â
âWhy not? Whatâs wrong with that?â
âFair.â
âWould you smash me?â Ian looked at Anthony seriously, adding to the moment. Anthony fell back into hysterical laughter.
âI mean,â he finally recollected himself, âif it was you or Chanse, I would definitely pick you.â
âValid. Chanse has really intense, pretty eyes though.â
âYeah, but yours are even betterâŠâ
âAre they?â Ian batted his eyes at Anthony, who laughed again.
âWait, we should totally be like, moles on the show though,â Ian said. He was very much in his element, coming up with crazy scenarios. âSo we could sabotage everyone elseâs relationships for prize money.â
âWe would work together as a team.â
âYeah totally. I would be the mastermind, and youâd go and seduce them with your slutty yoga poses or some shitâŠâ
âYes! That way I could fulfill my slutty needs and fuck everyone on the island.â
âIncluding me of course.â
âOh absolutely, every day.â
âAs a treat.â
âAs a motherfucking TREAT.â
âAnthony? Mister President?â Angela walked up to them.
âPlease just call me Ian,â Ian repeated in vain.
âWeâre almost there! See? The island is right there!â
A beautiful green island with white beaches had appeared amidst the green sea.

Trump
I have something to do with it I came up with a lot of it not all of it the siren went off and I thought of it and he was thinking too of somewhere to start I was thinking fort Myers and he's thinking it's too big and it is so do a microcosm and we'll check it out this is a great idea we're going to go ahead and do this
Camilla we have three or four neighborhoods
We have about 5:00 no we have 25 neighborhoods and some buildings too and some of them are crap this is a great idea I think this is the best idea I've heard yet we're trying to arrange a meeting and we're trying to find a Hall that's down there or near it and it says anyhow you can find a hall and don't forget to the coffee the donuts and other such things and we won't that's a good idea
Bja I mean it's so damn boring here that people will come down to the meeting because he had free food so I'm going to have a catered and I think I'm going to pick if there's probably not one down there but maybe a Chipotle or something I don't know what's down there anymore
You know it's down there it's going to be McDonald's or Burger King so going with Burger King they have those family meal packs and we'll buy a ton of them

Garth
Bja
Brad
Bg

We're going to do that too it's a good idea I can help kind of get it going and I'm going to look for a place to meet if anything we could meet at a park or something have a barbecue and they say it's open and then we can hear it I said we're talking about construction and keep it clean for the most part and they say everybody knows what else you can try and we agree
Thor Freya
I think you find a hall that would be great but if you can't you can say we can't find a hall cuz we're all s***** and there isn't one here that's not contaminated but if you find one it's probably going to stink anyways which will help the cause
Zues Hera good
We approved this message to go out Olympus

pls talk about your thoughts about chanhee and also the other concepts!! I always have such a hard time interpreting music and videos but i love to read about it
âbestie pls share ur thoughts on make your own concepts specifically chanheeâs but any others that are ur fave too đ€- marâ
omg mar thank you for enabling me all day today đđ„ș𧥠thenks bestie ily :,)) and thank you too anon ! i should preface that T-T i have not read any other theories or analyses so these are just my opinions / impressions but i hope itâs entertaining to read about haha :p ! (feel free @ anyone to add on or share your thoughts too ! :,))
HYUNJAE - okay so audio cues... if you listen to the beginning thereâs a sound of a bomb going off before the music starts ? and that ties into the dystopian / cyborg aesthetics that jump out at me of course, but what i immediately thought of was their no air perfo ? like we know hyunjae in the no air mv got that shot where heâs laying in the bathtub filled with water but also their kingdom performance with it also had those underwater shots ! so i think it ties into that... i feel like we saw in gen z, heâs a very straightforward person he says things on his mind which can come off as blunt but he thinks itâs better than not saying it ? which is interesting bc i think that speaks to his self- determined personality, heâs much more inclined to do whatever it takes to get something done, which i think falls perfectly in line with the âmake your own airâ phrase that he gets, if itâs something he needs he makes it himself, in a situational sense methinks u.uÂ
JUYEON - JUYEONâS DJSKHDG iâm waiting for driâs essay but in essence we see the gen z âjuyeon is not such a good boyâ shot and these text bubbles that pop up that say âsexyâ âyou so hotâ âsuch a bad boyâ and tbh i like this âconceptâ ? for him better than his gen z one ? itâs not bc of the concept itself but i like the idea that he can âmake your own characterâ as in he has the capability and power to be whoever he wants to ! you see him throwing white paint at the gen z canvas and i think ?! thatâs symbolic of like a fresh canvas ! of remaking himself to whatever he wants bc the canvas is now blank again thanks to the white paint and flowers usually indicate spring ? so renewal and stuff like that ! i really like his, itâs also fun word play on âcharacterâ which has been juyeonâs intro in tbz (bc his name sounds like main character in korean) but yea :o ! i really love his the idea he can just repaint / paint over a literal image of him gives it the possibility of becoming smth new and thatâs so so cool
CHANGMIN - SCREEEEECH okie um oh boy um *windows shutting down noises* this was so so so very different from his gen z stuff but i actually think BOTH are equally perfect for him ? the way that he set up the sparklers and neon lights on this very obviously trashy and kind of rundown rooftop with the cityline behind him is so ?!?!? LITERALLY making his own stage as his tagline goes, sort of like how the physical stage itself does not matter but rather itâs changmin himself that makes the stage special ! i talked about this in gabiâs set that i rbed ;-;/ but changmin puts a lot A LOT of stake in his position as a dancer it means almost everything to him as a form of expression from what i can see ? so heâs always trying his best to put forward the best performance possible and seeing this segment makes me feel like heâs doing just that ! pouring himself into it to make his stage pls i care himÂ
HAKNYEON - god iâm a jusadan but just u.u rest in peace me, iâll ... T_T be kind of honest this one confuses me a little ? i have assumptions and i feel like i know ... quite a bit about haknyeon (LMAO) my best guess is it has smth to do with self assurance ...? the way heâs framed and the fact that heâs sitting on a bed in the middle of a church surrounded by candles gives me christ figure symbolism (where my ap english takers at :/) and the light that perfectly frames him in a halo gives me angel vibes too, but the tagline of âmake your own romanceâ paired with him kissing his reflection makes me think itâs about self love ;;;; from what i can tell haknyeon has always been someone who really likes feeling validated and praised for the stuff he does well, which he does for himself a lot of the times too ! but sometimes i think the self assurances he compliments himself with is more for reassuring himself rather than bragging (which i think people misinterpret) so itâs more about becoming the person he wants to fully love and being happie with himself which *tears* i might be reading too much into who knows i just love him ok ... U.UÂ
KEBINNN - i know !!! dri mentioned this in my gifset tags but ! kev on kpop daebak (? was it) or smth mentioned how he strives to keep a childlike wonderment for the world around him, which is a reason why i think he loves drawing and sound / music production, he talked in a fancafe post once about an artist who turned mediocre everyday objects into art and he said he really loves that sense of wonderment so peter pan who ânever grows upâ is actually perfect for his worldview ahhhh T^T also kev really likes disney lmao, the way heâs doing this outside in this âneverlandâ garden on a balcony which is a part of this very typical apartment backed by a typical city bg also i believe ties into this turning a mediocre everyday thing into smth wonderful through his sense of childlike wonderment and his tagline of âmake your own fantasyâ (i also care him a lot this concept >>>>>>) and keeps to his referencing movie plotlines like he did in gen z jddkfj
SUNWOO - i also mentioned this in my tags on sunuâs set but this gives me 100 degrees vibes which i still to this day think is one of the most âsunwooâ vibe things ever, itâs a lot of him having fun and doing his own thing, and mixes both more mature and youthful aspects together in a way that iâd only ever describe as sunwoo vibes LMAO like the roller skating around and all the soap bubbles ! cute and youthful ! the crop top and celine wasitband (donât laugh at me we all noticed) more mature and a callback to his gen z look methinks U.u, think sunwoo has always been a more go-with-the-flow or do whatever he feels like doing sort of person and so âmake your own vibeâ fits well with him in that sense to meÂ
SANGYEON - .... *silence* *more windows shutting down noises* *jess.exe has stopped working* OKAY i feel like ! sangyeonâs is also more self explanatory :p i love the juxtaposition of boxing AND the arcade type fighter games ?? like both require very different sets of skills i feel like one is more physical the other is more mental ? but both require adapting to changes whether in the game or the boxing ring which as leader sangyeon would know a lot about, esp being flexible and quick to respond to different situations, and the âmake your own gloryâ i feel is maybe more on the nose, but tbz are this manâs pride and joy you can see it literally anywhere and for him, as leader, to have made it this far with tbz, winning rtk and building their popularity through their hard work and efforts really is building his own glory and i just HHHHHHHHHH
YES EYYSFDHSHF CHANHEE YES - i said it in the tags of my srb before deleting it so iâll just repeat it here but CHOI CHANHEE !!!!! this detail i didnât quite process first watch was the continuous flashing of lights in all his scenes, like ... from the shots and the set it looks REALLY empty ?? but the flashing seems to indicate cameras and photos being taken of him despite there being no people we can really see in any of the shots ? WHICH IS SO COOL i think the implication is like âall eyes on himâ type which SO TRU i love that idea, like i said the walking past the wedding dresses ? v heavily implies fashion designer which i think you mentioned mar :o ! and i see it in the sense of his tagline âmake your own stereotypeâ bc white wedding dresses are the very traditional / typical choice and obviously feminine in stereotypes, whereas chanhee is wearing a SUIT which is all black in a very clean b/w set with no color which i feel is very stereotypically MASCULINE and the glasses too, itâs such an interesting contrast of his âstereotypically feminineâ features (in my view) with very masculine symbols, like glasses we usually associate with more soft hearted / meek stereotypes ? but the geometric shape of the windows and again his suit seems to indicate the very opposite ? itâs a mixing of stereotypes which i think is the point, by putting those together he quite literally makes his own stereotype and puts on the crown while the cameras continue flashing while pointed at him AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
YOUNGHOON - okie might have less to say about this one :o i feel like both hakâs and younghoonâs i donât see the connections quite as readily but ! i think itâs interesting that his tagline is âmake your own classicâ but then in the scenes itself he has a flip phone ??? with an antenna (okay boomer /j JDHFKFG JK PLS) and a teddy bear while in PERIOD stylized clothing and setting where those two things are more modern / contemporary in origin (but also not modern enough bc ,,, itâs a flip phone LOL) like 90s kid vibes ? you know but as an emperor in the joseon era haha :p while eating shrimp chips and reading a (comic ?) book, like idk too much of what it means but itâs a cool dichotomy LOL, think it might also tie into actor ! hoon bc itâs make your own classic and i think acting has become a very important aspect to him :o after seeing what heâs capable of in love revolution and his atbz video so itâs interesting u.u (need help w/ this one)
JACOB - think my explanation in hanâs setâs tags didnât really make sense so lemme ... reexplain LOL,,, so ! similar to his gen z video ? like heâs talked about how difficult it is to open up about his own feelings etc. and he said itâs less bc he realizes he needs to but rather just to make other people feel more comfortable when it comes to understanding him, and like the whole breaking the mirror with his reflection in the wanna be angry jacob, itâs about freeing himself to the point he can express the emotions he wants to ! in gen z it was about being able to be angry when he felt that way instead of being tied by his image of being just nice ? and in the video with his pilot uniform not only does he control the ride but he also rides on it himself ! quite literally making his own freedom (symbolically), a sort of realizing he can free himself ? from whatâs been tying him down and i think the really big smile he has while riding it just comes to show how he wants to feel :,))) (jacob bae i care you)Â
ERIC - last one :p AHHH this is one of my favs too, the quite literal âmake your own prideâ I LOVE IT ! sooo i think the biggest takeaway i got was that of course in this video his âprideâ is symbolized by the hot pink car (that heâs going to pick up his christmassy date in of course u.u if he has a license which he does n- his driverâs license in this was literally his aaa / boy version of reveal photo which in no dmv anywhere would a license picture be allowed to look that good-) and LITERALLY when he finished and takes it for a joy ride while sitting on the roof heâs STILL covered in the dirt and grime stains ! from working on it ! which i think is so symbolic ! itâs my favorite detail actually, he literally put sweat into this car which is his pride and now that heâs finally riding around in it, it feels accomplishing ! his pride ! love that, also when heâs grabbing a stub from that flyer i noticed he chose âyouthâ over the others (which was like .... ca$h, beauty, ice cream, hamburger...) which i think also just indicates that despite all this hard work he put in he still cherishes his youth and still lets that be a huge part of who he is (i mean pink car so of course) so idk i think itâs very neat go bestie mwah
#sunnew#anon#asks#not tbz#jess.replies#be your own king analysis#I WROTE SO MUCH PLS#even more than my gen z analysis i think#anyway if anyone reads all of this oof thank you#HHHEEELP#i just did all of them ....#my weakest ones are def hak sunwoo yh#idk but i like what i came up with for the others ! ^^#i've seen a few twt threads but haven't read any lol#wrote the most about chanhee but no one is surprised of course

Repetitive Listening - hereâs a youtube video playlist I found about it a few days ago.
Short summary: listening to audio in a language youâre trying learn, to the point of more than you feel like you need to. To where you can remember a lot of whatâs said, the words/phrases sound familiar/pop into your head, and where if you have questions you could maybe say the chunk youâre wondering about out loud and ask about it. So like when you like a song a lot, and play it a lot, to the point its sort of in your head sometimes and you can remember lyrics somewhat. The idea is that if you listen to it enough you will get better at recognizing sounds and words and word chunks, and even if you donât understand everything this will at least make looking unknown things up easier - and it should make your pronunciation/speaking better, and improve your comprehension of words you do know/have studied.
The videos give 80-100 times suggestions, but I do think as long as its a point where you feel really comfortable, thatâs probably enough. The videos suggest: pick voices you like listening to, since youâll listen a lot, and since you may pick up pronunciation/your voice sound from them. They also suggest using 2 minute to 20 minute clips depending on your level of comprehension in the target language, your comfort, etc.Â
So songs will easily be good material for this, along with youtube video audio, radio drama episodes, audiobook chapters, podcasts.Â
---
Tested it out a bit (listened 5-10 times so far):
Iâve decided to test out this a bit with the Guardian Audiobook chapters avenuex made. I think the podcast Slow Chinese would be better for beginners, since its shorter at 2-4 minutes.Â
I just figure I might as well use something Iâm listening to anyway. Also, before I heard about ârepetitive listeningâ as a technique, I was noticing a Tangible difference in my comprehension of the audiobook chapter from the first time I listened to it to the second. So if nothing else, I figured it would definitely help boost my listening comprehension up to the point of being able to catch most/all words Iâve studied - instead of just some when listening. Â
I do think its helping me a lot with picking out words/phrases - to the point where I am picking up most words Iâve studied with text/flashcards, and to the point where I can catch the unknown words/phrases enough to type the pinyin in pleco to look them up. Also, for me personally, because an audiobook is based on a more literary text, Iâm getting more used to the flow of the narrative writing - hearing time transition words, adjectives, descriptive phrases that usually get used more in writing like âturned his headâ âscratched his neckâ âgave a smileâ âhung up the phoneâ âput his hand in his pocketâ etc. I could sort of recognize those phrases anyway when reading, since theyâre words I know just in ways Iâm less familiar with (Iâm more familiar with dialogue sentences like âi did/he did Xâ). But hearing these phrases again and again is helping me to âprocessâ more quickly what they mean instead of having to work so hard to parse it out.
Iâve still only listened maybe 5-10 times, so I canât say for sure yet if 30 or 40 or more times would see even more noticeable improvements. I can definitely say, even just doing this repetitive listening a little bit, seems to help a lot with listening comprehension of words you already have some familiarity with (have seen in text, or studied, or know some hanzi of) and it seems to help with recognizing pronunciation. By that second part I mean that often learning materials will speak slower, evenly, with a bit less natural variation, and if you learn a decent amount from flashcards or dictionaries then you know how often the automatic text audio can sound robotic and âoffâ compared to once you hear it in real context like a convo or show.Â
Avenuexâs voice is really crisp and clear (and lovely I think) so sheâs still really comprehensible for beginners, but her voice also says the tones so much more naturally than a lot of learner texts I hear (which exaggerate tone sound so you can hear it better/are more evenly paced) - her pace gets faster and slower depending on the suspense of the scene, and the flow of the sentence. I think its a nice example of how to break down word-chunks when saying a sentence too. She changes her voice a bit too for each character (and the bg music changes, which is all really cool and funner to listen to than a lot of audiobooks Iâve heard!). I can hear some of the more natural-sounding ways of things getting pronounced, but she still speaks clear enough that it doesnât get as slurred as those same words/phrases sometimes get in dramas I watch (I started rewatching Guardian and wow the amount of times Zhao Yunlan slurs/is muffled because heâs talking with a sucker in his mouth lol, or in many dramas when its short lines of common words theyâll get slurred quicker a lot).Â
When I studied japanese, our teacher had us shadow the audio scenes in Genki, and record ourselves trying to say the dialogue and we were graded based on how close we sounded to the original bookâs audio. What I noticed, back when I had to do that, is that I had to pay attention enough that I started noticing where the natural word-breaks were. Basically, which words you sort of âsay togetherâ more quickly almost like theyâre one word, versus the areas youâre more likely to leave empty space for to slow down or breath or change the pace. Iâm guessing a lot of languages have this kind of natural word-breaks flow. I might break some of these sentences down in english like âI-might break some-of-these-sentences-down in-english like.â Thereâs a few different natural sounding ways to do it, but thereâs definitely clear WRONG ways. It would sound less natural to pause after every single word - and depending on the sentences, there are sometimes odd places to pause that will stand out to native speakers.Â
Well for chinese, its easy for me to put probably more unnatural sounding word breaks, if I donât consciously try to emulate a chinese sentence exampleâs word-phrase breaks. I do think repetitive listening is helping me to get more of a âfeelâ of when to do it, the way when my teacher made us try to exactly emulate japanese audio I started to notice much more âwhenâ to choose to put breaks in my sentences and how to chunk saying the words together.
Listening to the audiobook chapter a lot is helping me sort of get used to picking out the word chunks, instead of just the individual words I know as âseparate.â I think in the long run, this will probably help with comprehending audio faster, and it may eventually help with me speaking with a more natural flow when Iâm not thinking as consciously of it. Hopefully, Iâll have to find out on that second benefit over time lol!
There is other benefit Iâve noticed - and Iâm not sure if its because of repetitive listening, or because I have been reading a lot more, and adapting sentence-example flashcards with Audio into my flashcard study. Iâve noticed when Iâm typing its easier for me to gather my thoughts and word them in chinese. Before, when writing I would struggle first to think the right words, then on how to even phrase it in chinese/general grammar, then on word order. Iâm still double checking my written sentence on word order (mostly on time placement, since I know it goes toward the beginning but I just tend to think of it when typing toward the end, so I insert it at the end). But for the actual words/how to phrase them Iâve been a bit quicker - its easier for me to go âna jiu haoâ, âwo juede na ge,â âzai zheliâ etc. Pretty basic stuff to word together, I know. But in the past it was just taking me longer to figure out how to phrase âthatâs good,â âI think thatâ âHere...â even though I knew the words, just because Iâd be double checking whether to use na/nage/naxie/naben (which still kind of confuses me but I can tell seeing/hearing it more is helping me get used to when to use which easier), and where to place zai/mian/cong.Â
If anyone else has tried repetitive listening, or used this study method a lot, I would love to hear about your experiences with it. How it helped you, how you used it, how it fit into your study plans. Whatever you feel about it lol.

Hey Steph, Brownie here, yes, I'm alive and well! First off, I wanted to ask if you had some proper (and possibly long) Reunion Johnlock fics post season 2 that just majorly ignores Mary. I don't care how old, I'm craving that and I can't seem to find anything on AO3 that fits, maybe because it's so far buried in the archives. Second: How is the fandom doing? I'm uploading a two years old german Johnlock fanfiction now, edited it yesterday and fell back into the Johnlock hell. Oh well... :D
Hi Lovely! Ahhh Iâve got a few fics for you with my reunion fic list, as well as an update to that list!
As for the fandom, honestly? Iâm not really sure⊠I stay so deep in my happy corner of fic recs, playlist recs, and the occasional meta writing-or-hunting because my mental health needed a break so I stick to things I enjoy :P Itâs not as big as it used to be obviously, but I think we have a great little niche here, LOL
Anyway: back to the initial recs! :)

FINALLY iâve finished @actualbirdâs christmas present! since they live on the other side of the world from me and sending them a physical present would cost both my life savings and my firstborn, and i donât know how to draw and iâm in a writerâs slump at the moment AND iâve already made them a mix, i decided to put together the soundtrack i had in my head for their fic, is this a forest? âcuz there sure is a lot of pine (yes i know thereâs a comma instead of a question mark in the picture but iâm too tired to go fix it). the art is by @savedbythemell (xx)! also, since the fic hasnât been finished yet, this is technically a work in progress. merry christmas, bird! <3
unfortunately, spotify didnât have a couple of the songs on the soundtrack so i made the playlist on youtube.Â
check out the soundtrack here!
the soundtrack explanation is under the cut.Â
Ayuz - Rico Blanco
Second chapter. Michael finds that song on spotify, goes to school listening to it. Camera shows him listening to it at his desk in his room or something, his foot tapping to it as his face morphs into a pleased expression. As the first verse plays, you see him texting Jeremy on his phone. Jeremy is asking him where he is, probably, because for some fucking reason Jeremy is early to school. He has a text convo with Jeremy that gives some insight to their relationship with each other and how Michael is pining before the chorus hits, Michael huffs out a sigh, shoves his phone in his pocket, swings his backpack over his shoulder, and heads out the door. Cut to him in school, the camera focused on his back as he does his little dance-walk through the hallways, people passing by maybe kind of looking at him strangely. The song fades as he comes into contact with Jeremy at the lunch table, sound focused on Michael singing it.
Your Universe - Rico Blanco
End of second chapter. Even though Michael doesnât find this song until heâs home after being at Jeremyâs, it still plays as weâre shown them hanging out and havinâ a good time. When we finally see Michael at home, heâs in bed with his headphones on, laying on his stomach and staring at texts from Jeremy again, face expressionless. He sighs and sets his phone down, rolls onto his back, digs the heels of his hands into his eyes and the camera is looking down on him. As it pulls farther away from him, the scene fades out with the music, âIâll always be the lucky one.â
Hope You Do - Cinders
End of chapter three. The song comes in, Jeremy saying, âWhat are gagos for, right?â and Michael laughing in response. The guitar comes in as Jeremy heads up to the kitchen to get the brownies for Nikki. Lyrics start, Michael leans in the hallway and watches Jeremy and Nikki with a small but sad smile on his face. Nikki looks at him, and in the silence between, âi want your heart and i hope you want mine to, but itâs just so hard to tell you,â and âbut I hope you do,â Michael shrugs, and the camera immediately cuts from him to Jeremyâs face as he talks to Nikki. The scene fades out. Episode ends.
Henrietta - The Fratellis
Beginning of chapter four. The episode starts out silent with Jeremy in class, where he finds out that Christine has been assigned his partner for their English project. He seems to be fine, but the second that he hears Christine is his partner, the smile falls from his face, his eyes widen, and he looks over at Christine whoâs looking back at him with a smile and a wave. The guitar at the very beginning of the song starts as he looks over at her, and you can see the color drain from his face as the camera switches to show Christine smiling at him. She waves, and the camera flicks back to Jeremy right as the little, âHello!â comes in. Cut to a birdâs eye view of Jeremy sulking through the hallways on the way to lunch, then cut to Michael at their lunch table waiting for Jeremy to join him. Jeremy sits down and the song cuts off right before the lyrics can start. Queue Jeremy screaming into his backpack. Thatâs all that plays of this song.
Landslide - Oh Wonder
End of chapter four. Okay, so like, the thing with this chapter is that in all the parts where it says âThe thing about [character name] is,â I imagine it as Michael like, writing this in a journal to himself. Like throughout the episode, weâd hear Michaelâs voiceover saying the whole âHereâs the thing about Jeremy,â but since itâs Michael writing, there would be âIâs and âMeâs instead of âheâs and âhimâs when referring to Michael because, well, heâs referring to himself so you get it. So we hear Michaelâs voiceover throughout the episode doing that, and for the last oneâthe one about Christineâwe cut to Michael in his bed writing this in some journal heâs never used before because heâs always thought the whole write out your feelings coping mechanism was bullshit but heâs sort of desperate at this point. So we cut to the, âMy point is, Christine, should she ever like Jeremy backââ and this song is playing. The weird pulsing sound at the beginning started playing when Jeremy laid his head on Michaelâs shoulder. So the first verse is playing as heâs talking over it while writing, and then the chorus hits and he just kind of shakes his head and groans and closes the journal and lays down, tries to go to sleep. The episode fades out.
Nothing Lasts - Bedroom
K, so, this episode (chapter 5) begins with no music, and that lasts until after the incident where Michael tries to text Jeremy while heâs at the mall. Then this song starts playing as confusion comes to Michaelâs face, wondering why Jeremy wonât reply to him. Transfer into a, like, semi-montage with this song playing in the BG of all the incidents where Michael is trying to get Jeremyâs attention and failing. It cuts off abruptly when the camera quickly cuts from Michael looking all antsy in the hallway to a closeup of their hands as Michael grabs Jeremyâs wrist.
Some Boys (Demo) - Death Cab For Cutie
Okay so since this song starts out kind of abrupt, like SUDDENLY IMMEDIATELY THEREâS A GUITAR yâknow, Iâd change it so that it fades in. This is what plays when Michael has his panic attack in the bathroom! It doesnât seem fitting at first but like, the lyrics are p good for it and also if you think about it like I am, itâs pretty fitting. So like, Jeremy leaves, the door closes. The song starts fading in as Michael locks it. We see him stare at the door handle, see his eyes well up, and see him sink to the edge of the tub. Then the camera changes to a birdâs eye view of the bathroom and like, we cycle through seeing Michael in the tub, at the sink staring in the mirror, curled into a ball against the door, hyperventilating in the middle of the room with his hands in his hair, and then finally leaving when âsome boys donât know how to loveâ is sung. The song fades out as the camera cuts to Michael backing out of the driveway and driving off, the screen fading to black as well.
Oo - Up Dharma Down
This is here for obvious reasons. Itâs the song that comes on Michaelâs spotify when heâs smoking and going through burning shit Jeremyâs given him. It plays again at the end of the episode from his headphones, but then fades in louder as the episode closes out of the hospital room with Michael sitting next to Jeremyâs bed.
Midnight Movies - Saint Motel
Chapter 6 opening. Michael and Jeremy are back at school, it seems like things are more or less okay between them. We focus on Michael in a sort of montage as he goes through a couple weeks of interacting with Jeremy and doing his best to make things normal again, but we always see him falter when Jeremy isnât looking or when one of the kids from the squip squad talks to him. At one point, we see one of the kids asking Michael if he wants to come hang out with them; the music quiets down just enough to we catch the gist of the exchange. When the music officially fades out, itâs when the camera pans down on Michael trying to light his cigarette by the bleachers after having been asked to hang out and Christine approaches.
O Pag-ibig - Bailey May and Ylona Garcia
This is playing on Michaelâs car stereo while theyâre on the way back to Jeremyâs house after school. I think itâd play again at the end of the episode while Michael is thinking about how everything is going to be okay after Jeremy snuggled him in his sleep.
Green Tea - Observer Drift
Chapter 7, after everyone sits down at lunch with Michael and he starts to get a little overwhelmed. Christine offers to watch a dog video with him. The song starts playing as Michael leans over to watch it, a smile forming on his face. Jeremyâs fingers are touching his wrist, the table is laughing, and Michael looks a bit more content now. We see Christine sneak a glance at him as she shows him the video, her own smile mirroring his own. Itâs soft and resembles something like pride.
Cut To The Feeling - Carly Rae Jepsen
Michael picks Jeremy and Christine up, Christine plays this song in the car on the way to the arcade.
Sporting Chance - Observer Drift
The very end of this episode as Michael watches Jeremy head over to the air hockey table. Seriously the lyrics in this fuck me up. Make a list of all your friendsâ close your eyes and walk away from me. I couldnât ask you this just one time; did you write me down? Doesnât matter how many we have, what matters is how much they care. The episode fades out with this song.
Ligaya - Eraserheads
The only song in chapter 8. Michaelâs guitar cover of this at the end of the chapter fades into the actual song as the episode closes.
audioscan - ambient noise transformed into music
Chapter 9 opens up with Michael staring at the shelf of condoms in front of him at 7Eleven, this playing on his headphones. (Thanks, Jenna.)
Major Tom - Peter Schilling
Really this is just strictly for comedic purposes/background noise. This is whatâs playing on the storeâs speakers after Michael takes his headphones off and starts to (accidentally) text Rich. Itâs got a weird floaty feeling to it and I imagine itâd be, like, subconsciously calming to hear while having a crisis in a 7Eleven.
Start Somewhere - A Yawn Worth Yelling
Okay, so like, Major Tom ends and after Michael talks to the cashier and goes to leave the store, he stops outside and takes a deep breath. This wasnât written in the chapter but itâs what Iâm imagining if this were a TV show. This song starts playing as he exits the store, and he stops outside for a second to get his bearings. The drums kick in right as Michael takes a deep breath, gets this Well, guess Iâm really fucking doing this look on his face, and continues to march towards his car. We see him drive away, and the episode cuts to the next day or something where we see Michael sitting and making the flowchart of this chapter. The song fades out.
Silakbo - Milesexperience
The song that comes on Michaelâs Spotify right as heâs about to confess to Jeremy in his car.
Soft Clouds - Parks, Squares and Alleys
Plays right as Jeremy says the last words of the chapter, and the camera pans out and above the car up into the sky before the lyrics can start. The episode ends.

season three episodes nine & ten
Okay everyone, after a short hiatus, Iâm back and ready to reenter the world of Siesta Key, much like Alex after his long-awaited return in episode three of this season. Thereâs a lot of ground to cover here, (over yonder and hither north), and a lot of bare ass to see. So letâs just cut to the feeling!
The summerâs third most important event on the Key, following closely behind Alexâs birthday which didnât happen, and the Kompothecras Autism fundraiser which has yet to happen, is the Fourth of July. We all know how much the cast loves a themed bathing suit party and an excuse to take as many blueberry and watermelon Smirnoff Jello shots as possible, so this day is an honored tradition! But this year, we discover Juliette will not be participating in the annual debauchery. Sheâs under the impression that Alex and Alyssa will attend BGâs pool party, so in a rare moment of maturity (sorry Jules, but you know itâs true), she decides to work the holiday instead so that Blend, the boutique she works for, will be ready for its opening party. We love to see her contribute so thoroughly to Floridaâs flourishing haute couture scene. But sheâs mistaken â Alex and Alyssa are actually planning to head to Alyssaâs lake house in Georgia. (Go Dawgs! Sic em! Woof Woof!) Alyssa has invited Alexâs self-proclaimed âposseâ consisting of JJ, Jared, Amanda, and Chloe. Her best friend Madi will also be there. I love being introduced to cast membersâ friends because the company people keep is very telling of their overall aesthetic and vibe. Madiâs Instagram bio says that âchaos makes the muse,â and from that, I can assume that sheâs a basic white girl who is obsessed with Show Me Your Mumu and uppers. How fitting!
Every girl who exclusively wears Show Me Your Mumuâs feed
While everyone is finalizing their FOJ plans, Madisson is enjoying a romantic evening at Opheliaâs On the Bay with Ish. This classic Siesta Key establishment is reserved for special occasions, so Iâm already at the edge of my seat wondering what is going on in Ishâs shiny, bald head. Ish pulls a small jewelry box out of his pocket, and Iâm breathlish. I mean, breathless. Is Ish going to propose?! Madissonâs face lights up, then falls when she sees the box has a necklish in it instead of a ring. Bummer! But rest assured, the jovial grin returns to Madissonâs face moments later when Ish asks her to move in with him! I mean, sheâs quite literally giggling with excitement. Whatever happened to playing it cool? In fact, Madisson is SO jazzed that she suggests Ish come to lunch with her entire family soon, since her older sister, Paige will be in town. You may remember Paige as the girl who hooked up with both Pauly and Canvas, two major SK players. Fabulous track record. I canât wait to see her again.
Country roads, take me home! We have arrived in Albany, Georgia and are ready to hit the lake and celebrate America! But before the celebration can begin, everyone must decide who is rooming with who. Chloe quickly nixes the possibility of Amanda rooming with JJ, and later chastises Amanda for even thinking about rooming with her toxic ex. Between you and me, Amanda looks quite peeved with her friendâs overbearing orders. After everyone gets settled, and Jared makes a connection with Alyssaâs friend Madi, Chloe walks inside and sees Alyssa shucking corn, something Alyssa apparently thinks only happens in the south, even though everyone literally everywhere who eats corn needs to shuck it. Alyssa confides in Chloe about Alexâs recent shuck up â his confession that he was on the phone with Juliette for six hours. Chloe lets it slip that Alex only admitted his wrongdoing to Alyssa after Chloe pushed him to do it, which makes Alyssa angry. She confronts Alex about it, and all I have to say is that if this is any indication of how Alex responds when presented with damning evidence, I do not want him representing me. He immediately gets defensive and angry at Chloe, and as much as I hate to admit it, Alyssa holds her own. She gets mad at Alex for attacking Chloe for simply telling the truth. Instead of just owning up to what heâs done wrong, Alex stammers out a half-apology and looks ready to fight Chloe. Oh no.
Cut to JJ and Amanda, grilling up some burgers and a hot conversation! After discussing their rekindled flame despite their tough past, Amanda tells JJ about another wrench in their road to romance â Chloeâs blatant disapproval. JJ looks really annoyed with the intrusion. I mean, heâs had to deal with BG, the fact that he cheated on Amanda multiple times already, and now this?! Itâs so unfair. Speaking of BG, back on the Key, Brandonâs party is in full swing. You know what else is in full swing? The bare ass of a girl attending the party. Listen, I know the show loves to transition scenes by showing close-ups of scantily clad females, but this is just not something I can get behind. (Ha!) In all seriousness though, readers, please consider using something more than floss to cover your asshole if you ever find yourself on national television.
Thereâs more than one ass at this party, and her name is Kelsey. Sorry Kelsey stans, but this scene is just so violently cringe-worthy that I almost threw the remote at my screen. Kelsey can be so off-putting when she tries to flirt. But sheâs hot and on a reality show so Iâm not too worried about it. G Baby approaches Kelsey and asks her where âJakey-pooâ is. Itâs worth noting that the robots controlling Garrett are becoming increasingly upsetting as well. Kelsey informs the Robot Garret that Jake is âover yonder, hither northâ and then giggles/hiccups. Iâm actually grimacing as I type this. Their nauseating display reminds me of why theyâre actually perfect for each other. Foreshadowing, maybe? Kelsey then asks the question weâve all been wondering â are Cara and Garrett still talking? Garrett says that they are not talking anymore, which is exactly what BG says about Amanda when Madisson asks. And as the fireworks explode in the night sky, I canât help but think about the lack of fireworks in the love lives of our beloved cast.Â
Back at the lake, tensions are rising faster than the current unemployment rate. Chloe seems to be the common denominator in everyoneâs annoyance, and at dinner, everything comes to a head. Looking directly at Chloe, Alex asks, âChloe, I know you like hanging out with us, but are you more of a team Juliette girl?â Chloe warns him ânot to go there,â but Alex keeps pushing, accusing Chloe of being âfinnicky.â Alex Merriam- Webster Kompothecras back at it again with the BURNS! Nice try buddy, I guess they donât have vocab in law school. (I believe Alex meant to say âfickle,â but let me know your thoughts.) Chloe fires back by asking Alex a question â why hasnât he made things official with Alyssa yet? Future Lawyer Alex blesses us yet again with a genius rebuttal: âWhy? Because⊠Iâve⊠learned that⊠you shouldnât push things. And when⊠the time is right...â Chloe cuts him off by reiterating that Alex still continuously hits Juliette up. At this point, I feel so bad for Alyssa who is just sitting there like a vegetable. But before I can focus on how painfully awkward she must feel, Amanda randomly starts butting in and yelling at Chloe for inserting herself in everyone elseâs relationships. Chloe inserting herself in other peopleâs lives is literally the core theme of the show. Please get over it. Amanda keeps yelling because sheâs clearly annoyed with Chloeâs criticism of JJ, and as JJ sits there, harrowingly silent, Chloe tells Amanda to fuck off and storms out of the lake house. Letâs all pray she didnât drive home. The night isnât all bad though â after the fight, Jared ends up sealing the deal with Madi, who insists that she âusually doesnât do this on the first night.â Okay, sweetie. After Jared is unable to perform, the night, which began on an explosive note ends on a rather underwhelming one.
The fourth may be over, but the aftermath from the day remains. And what better way to catch up on the dayâs events than over lunch? As Chloe meets up with Juliette to explain what happened at the lake, Madisson takes Ish to meet up with her entire family and break her news to them. I predict that while Chloe and Julietteâs lunch will go swimmingly, Madisson and Ishâs lunch will turn sour quickly. And Iâm right! Juliette drinks in every last detail of Chloeâs public fight with Alex. Iâm proud of her for steering clear of the drama this time, but Iâm not naĂŻve. Juliette can only be on the Key drama-free for so long. Letâs check in with Madisson. As anticipated, this is not going well. After Madissonâs mom asks if she is pregnant, and Madissonâs Dad refuses to acknowledge that she and Ish are anything but âjust friends,â Madisson tells her family that she plans to move to Los Angeles with Ish. They appear less than pleased. It is a stark contrast from Madissonâs giddy reaction when he initially proposed the idea. Ish gently reminds her family that while Madisson would like their blessing, she is a grown woman and can make her own decisions. He knows their situation is âso uniqueâ, but hopes they will grow to accept their relationship. Paige, Madissonâs sister, breaks her silence. While Madisson was hoping she might be an ally for their relaysh, she turns out to be team parent. âUniqueâŠ?â Paige questions. âIsnât this more of a clichĂ©? The old Hollywood producer sleeping with the actressâŠâ Ouch! And here I thought her father was the harsh one!
While Madissonâs relationship becomes increasingly rocky, Alex decides to take things up a notch with Alyssa. During a bizarre conversation in which he essentially admits that he still has feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Alex seals the deal with Alyssa and asks her to be official. I wonder what prompted him to take the next step! Could it have been Chloe point-blank asking him why he hadnât made things official with Alyssa the night before? We may never know. Regardless, Alyssa accepts the clearly sincere offer and Siesta Key has a new power couple. âWait,â you might be thinking. âNew power couple? But what about Ish and Madisson?â Oh, thanks for the reminder. Alex and Alyssa are only able to overthrow this couple becauseâŠtheyâre done. Gasp! In a shocking scene, Ish breaks up with Madisson on national TV. If Iâm Madisson, a stunning 25-year-old girl who is D-List famous and kind of intelligent, Iâm furious. How dare my old, overweight ex-producer dump my ass in front of all of America. But after Ish says he needs space and doesnât think they should be together, Madisson just starts to softly cry and runs off-screen, away from her now ex-Father ex-boyfriend. I am torn because I know that Ish means well. Itâs like that time in Stephanie Meyerâs classic American novel, New Moon. When Edward realizes that his relationship with Bella puts her safety and ability to lead a normal life at risk, he knows he must leave her. Even if itâs the last thing he wants to do. He must act out of selfless love. Eventually, though, he comes back to BellaâŠwe can only hope for the same fate for Dadisson.
Speaking of exes, letâs check in on everyoneâs least favorite exes, Boring Robby and Juliette! Boring Robby is throwing some sort of strange soirĂ©e, and itâs a little awkward that Juliette is there considering the last time these two saw each other it ended rather abruptly. But Juliette, on a mature streak, pulls Boring Robby aside and apologizes for the harsh convo. She invites him to the Blend opening as a peace offering, and even though he accepts, Boring Robby canât help but push for a few more answers. He asks Juliette why she would ever say she loved him, and Juliette responds by explaining that while she did love him, she wasnât in love with him, because she felt like he was âfatherly.â Okay yâall, youâve heard of getting friend-zoned, but today weâre introducing you to a new dating trend, getting âdad-zoned!â She ends the talk by saying that sheâs ready to make her own decisions without the influence of any man. Yas kween! The only other notable thing that happens at this party is that Garrett refers to himself as the âG-Slanger,â which to me, is really thrilling.
But not everyone is dartying today. Despite their blowout, business aficionados Chloe and Alex must meet at the Crescent Club to âwork.â Before they hit the books, Chloe expresses her frustration with Alex. She explains that Alex is now doing the same thing Juliette did at the beginning of the summer. Heâs mad at Chloe for continuing to be friends with Juliette. And WHY canât she be friends with both!? Alex vehemently denies this claim but agrees that they need to find a way to smooth things over with everyone. On a more somber note, Jake comes over to Kelseyâs house and tells her that his father passed away, so he needs to return home. He also breaks things off with her. :( One of those rare actually intense moments in this show.
Blending business and pleasure never works, so when Alex shows up at Blendâs sign hanging, Juliette looks less than amused. Instead of gearing up for the opening party that night, Alex whisks Juliette away from her boss and coworker to have a chat with her. The chat goes absolutely nowhere â theyâre literally talking in circles, saying the same things weâve heard for three seasons. Juliette tells Alex sheâs going to pretend like he doesnât exist, and Alex responds with a menacing smile and says, âsee you later.â Iâm scared.
Itâs time for the official opening of Blend! While Iâm still confused as to how they were able to pull it together in time when Juliette went to Greece instead of helping out, Iâm so proud of Juliette, Julietteâs random friend Kelly, and Julietteâs bitchy boss Courtney. Great job, ladies! Everyone seems to be having a good time until Alex and Alyssa waltz in. The party crashers, making their debut as an official couple, make their way across the venue. But while Alyssa passes Boring Robby without a second glance, Alex, who has yet to see his âex-friend who dated his ex-girlfriend,â stops in front of Boring Robby and flicks him on the face. If Iâm Alyssa, Iâm breaking up with Alex then and there. He might as well take the microphone and scream âIâM NOT OVER JULIETTEâ into it. But of course, Alyssa turns the other way and pretends to barely notice it. Boring Robby is still visibly reeling from the flick. Even though heâs trying to pretend like it was funny, you can tell heâs taken aback. Alex approaches him AGAIN, slaps him on the ass, and threatens to âknock [his] fake-ass teeth out.â In true Boring Robby fashion, he simply walks away, refusing to engage and keeping things as boring as possible. Luckily, Boring Robbyâs spunky friend Joe is there to keep the reality show on track and talk a lot of shit. He starts by flipping Alex off and saying that Alex âhides behind his money.â Alex responds by bringing up Robbyâs penis size. Maybe weâve gotten it wrong this whole time. Maybe Alex is really into Boring Robby, and is mad at Juliette for getting in the way. Eventually, Alex lunges at Joe and threatens to fight him. As a future lawyer, Alex should know better than to physically attack anyone in public, specifically someone who is a literal walking hate crime, but then again, Alex isnât known for his intelligence.
The next day, Kelsey heads to Boring Robbyâs to make sure her job is still secure in light of all of the chaos that has ensued. (Remember that heâs randomly her boss, lol.) He assures her that all is okay, and has no problem with âcontinuing to use and abuse her.â I donât think he got that quote from his collection of bizarre inspirational sayings, but it still made me cringe just the same. When Kelsey brings up the fight, Robby describes it as âpar for the course.â I cannot get enough of his expressions! Theyâre never-ending! Later, when Juliette checks on Boring Robby to make sure heâs okay after the fight, he also assures her that heâs okay, that the fight was âpar for the course,â and that âsome zebras never change their stripes.â Iâve said it once and Iâll say it again, Boring Robby is truly the Confucius of our generation.
In the wake of the big fight, Chloe, resident shit-stirrer, is more determined than ever to mend all of the strife in her friend group (that she primarily caused.) Summoning her inner Mother Teresa, Chloe sends out a text to her friends demanding they meet up to hash things out. The text ends with a sweet message â âYOU ARE REQUIRED TO BE THERE SO I DONâT WANT ANY FUCKING EXCUSES.â Chloe certainly knows the way to peopleâs hearts!
In the final scene of this lengthy, two-episode extravaganza, we see the OG crew plus Jared at a bonfire. Itâs nice to see all of the original cast together. Madisson kicks off the meeting by explaining how important everyone is to her. She breaks down, detailing how badly she needs a support system since her family hasnât been there for her and Ish is gone. Chloe quickly glazes over the heartfelt cry for help and changes the direction of the conversation towards Alex and Juliette. As she tries to get them to see eye to eye, a very wasted Juliette calls Alex a âpiece of shitâ while Alex laughs in her face and tells her to go âbob her headâ in the corner. I hate myself for laughing, but Juliette definitely nods her head weirdly when drunk. They peel off and have an emotional conversation that everyone can hear, and it ends with Alex holding a sobbing Juliette, assuring her that he would jump in front of a bullet for her. I donât know about you, but I probably wouldnât be chill with my boyfriend doing that with (or for) his ex. Either way, at least they arenât screaming at each other.
The episode ends with Brandon announcing a trip to Nashville. Heâs going to record a song and wants to bring everyone along for a vacation. The two-part finale will take place in Nashville, and I cannot wait. In the words of Alex Kompothecras, future lawyer, âSara-nara!â See yâall in Nashville next week!

Life Is Like a Box of... Diabetes Goodies? (Giveaway Contest!)
New Post has been published on http://type2diabetestreatment.net/diabetes-mellitus/life-is-like-a-box-of-diabetes-goodies-giveaway-contest/
Life Is Like a Box of... Diabetes Goodies? (Giveaway Contest!)
The medium-sized priority mail box arrived by mail the day after Thanksgiving, on Black Friday. A label stating "D-Box" was stuck on the top, hinting at the mystery lineup of "diabetes goodies" inside.
And that moment, right before I ripped the box open, was probably the highlight of my experience with HealthEngage's new D-Box offering, that's pitched as a "Diabetes Products of the Month Club." Inside each box is a hodgepodge of D-item samples that can range from food, drinks, topical creams, books, electronics, jewelry, to "anything cool and useful for someone with diabetes."
I was pretty intrigued after talking to the head of the Arlington, VA, company behind this D-Box. It's a new service started this year that you can get for yourself or someone else as a gift - $35 for a single month, $75 for three months, $190 for six months, or $340 for a full year (!).
"We kept hearing from our users that it was difficult to find new and interesting diabetes-related products," HealthEngage president Michael Slage said about how the D-Box came to be. "It was troubling, getting emails from people saying they can't afford supplies and test strips... so we wanted to help them save some money. We decided to try to take the hassle out of finding and trying new products for people who can't spend all day on Google trying to find something."
So my imagination got away with me as I anticipated what might be inside my box: maybe it would be the run-of-the-mill sample packs you get at conference booths, but just maybe it would be something totally new and interesting and useful in ways I'd never thought of before.
Unwrapping the Box
When my D-Box arrived on Black Friday, I found seven sample items inside:
Roasted Seasoned Seaweed from Korea
A 6-oz tin of Bear & Wolf Pink Salmon
Nature's Hollow sugar-free maple syrup
A five-day sample pack of six Nature Made vitamins without any gluten or artificial flavors/preservatives
An 18-oz jar of gluten-free and blueberry-flavored bai antioxidant infusions Superfruit juice
a 1/4-oz sample of Formula II Skin Care Cream
Stick of ultra-hydrating Desert Essence lip rescue with shea butter
As soon as I opened the box and surveyed the contents, I started laughing and OMG-head-shaking, because I was thinking:
"Seaweed... are you freakin' kidding me?! And vitamins? And lip balm?"
My conclusion: What an utter disappointment. I was really hoping for so much more.
Honestly, it wasn't the kind of stuff that's "fun, interesting, exciting, or useful" to me. And it certainly didn't seem worth the price tag of $35 a box.
To me, what was inside was reminiscent of stuff I've seen at every diabetes or health conference I've ever been to (and I've been to a lot in my 28 years with type 1). Sort of neat, but just not stuff I would spend my hard-earned money on.
Opinions can vary, though. And maybe I should step back and give this particular D-Box a fair shake.
I may personally not take "healthy eating" to the level many fellow PWDs do, but there are a growing number of PWDs who make these D-Box items a fixture in their lives. People outside the U.S. eat seaweed and it apparently has some health benefits (so Google searches tell me). Vitamins are good for you and the mix included appears very health-focused for PWDs. And the rest of the package contents surely have their own health benefits and people certainly buy these.
Yet, it just seems to be missing something for me.
Was it the surprise element that let me down? The notion that I'm getting some mystery box of D-Goodies that could potentially surprise me or change my D-Life? Maybe that's it. The box didn't even contain a single one of its pitched "helpful diabetes tools" like medicine organizers, electronics, emergency or heat packs, self-exam mirrors for foot inspections, or USB identification bracelets, books or D-publications. There also weren't any coupons or vouchers as I was expecting.
I had higher hopes, to be sure, but that doesn't mean some folks won't enjoy this monthly grab-bag service.
The Man Behind D-Box
A telemedicine guru, Slage formerly worked with NASA on developing advanced technology for astronauts to manage their health while in space, and on sharing that data with docs and ground control. His focus was on telemedicine, space stations and astronaut health. He left NASA to start a company assisting Pharma companies worldwide with patient applications, doing glucose calculations on handheld and web applications. Slage - who doesn't have diabetes himself - later started his own company, HealthEngage, in 2010 to forge his own path to using technology to help people better manage their health.
Now two years old, HealthEnage offers free online tools for people with diabetes (PWDs) to log blood sugars and other health stats and share info with docs. They offer a free diabetes widget that can be added on Google, Facebook, or mobile phones to log and track BG data.
The D-Box mailing offer has been around for about six months now and is the latest venture of the company that now reaches people in 176 countries speaking 58 languages. Diabetes is just one of the company's main focuses at this time, Slage says. The company works with about 300 diabetes vendors across the globe and proudly notes its support from Pharma's JnJ, NASA, and the Department of Homeland Security.
"We want to focus everything on the patient, to help them feel better and do better in their health. So much of this can get lost on insurance claims and product pitches from Pharma, so we want to make this all a little easier for people," Slage said.
Each D-Box includes five to ten "conference sample" style items (really whatever fits in the box), and Slage says his staff tries to mix it up between small and large vendors and include newer and lesser-known items that might not be available to everyone everywhere.
Curious about the dollar-value of this offering, I turned to Google and did a quick search, that showed the seven-item list might cost somewhere around $25. After paying somewhere around $10 for shipping, we're not too far off from the price actually paid... but it's certainly no discount deal.
And then there's the wait time. I placed my order a few days before the end of October. My D-Box arrived the day after Thanksgiving â just about a full month later. Wow!
According to Slage: Items are pre-selected and then boxed once an order's placed, though sometimes they add a last-minute surprise. Four staff members are specifically assigned to "scouring diabetes vendors around the world to find the coolest items from a wide variety of categories related to diabetes to send to our subscribers." At least one of those individuals has type 2 diabetes and another has a mom with type 1, he said.
So far, Slage says HealthEngage has sent out several hundred boxes already, and interest has gone up with the holidays approaching. They recently did some Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions and discounts. If you're thinking of gifting, Slage says the deadline is Dec. 14 for orders to be sent and received by Christmas.
The company's planning some holiday-specific items, and in the future also plans to toss in some kid-friendly stuff. Preferences can also be included, Slage said. They also plan to add a review feature to the company website allowing people to add feedback about the included D-Box items they receive.
"We understand people aren't going to like everything in there, but this is an ecosystem we're building that's all centered around a person with a chronic disorder."
OK, I get that. YPMV (your preferences may vary).
Still, I don't find the D-Box is worth the cost or the near-month it takes for delivery. Not by a long shot. However, if a D-Box was offered as a giveaway that I wouldn't have to spend my own money on, that could be different...

Three ballsy that you said it it's very ballsy because the the current circus up there thought it would be hit because he's here and he had some attention when he went up there and it kept it going for like 7 years literally and it's still going now and now what he's saying is making it grow they're bringing back Acts and they're bringing back other acts and they're going to do the animals on the weekend and they're coming from down the street and he said that the carnival could be near it and it would bring back the garden and it's bringing back the garden and people are donating to the fund for the rescue rangers they call it something else no they show it as US Army Rangers. And these guys are part of it they have unit that's going on and they're going and searching and getting their findings and they're putting it in a hall and it's in New York City these things are awesome and it's helping and the circus is very grateful and said you'll have a job up there when he gets ready and he says BG has a laundry and he knows who Chris is and so does Ray and he'd be willing to announce the show let's try it once and he can kind of fit in a suit and the top hat wants to do the whole nine yards though like look the part and maybe I don't know probably not a whole show though they say they have a part for that it's the ringmaster he says great that'll kick off Lord of the rings and that's an area to look and he would be in disguise and they already have a name for you and he says that's great I'd like to see it though case the code is bad.
