not to be meta abt my rook and how i went abt creating them but there is something abt starting them solely with the idea of "you will have no relation to my warden and inquisitor, who are family and had almost a real-life decade of my life dedicated to developing their world" that really gets me going. like. from the very beginning you are on the outskirts. in-game, you were needed as someone new, someone out of the loop, and so narratively, your history is inconsequential. in-game, your backstory is murky at best, and so narratively, you will be by yourself until you find the people you will later be defined by. there is no intricate red string of fate weaving you into decades of families and history; you are the one on the outside who must be brought in. you have no family and thus the family of heroes that came before you will be folklore. you must learn what was inherent to them - what made them. you are thrust into a world that has already been crafted before you, and your creator has leaned into you being no one before your existence.

There has been some ongoing discussion about Chris and Cathy’s relationship in the books. (All posts with commentary about their relationship are in this tag.) The relationship is controversial and we’re not all going to agree and that’s OK. I don’t want to participate in or facilitate a debate because that’s not what I want to focus on, but I recognize there aren’t really any other great places for that to happen, so I apologize that I can’t be a better host for that. I appreciate the interest and the participation. I’m going to answer the most recent asks I received on the topic, and if anything else comes in, it will be added to this post instead of posted as a new post. Thank you everyone for sharing your thoughts.
Anon:  No hate to the anti-chris anon, i also appreciate the respectful way they disagreed, and i have no dog in the fight personally, but i thought it brings up a bit of a funny concept to me that an incestuous pairing needs to be declared as toxic when most people would consider the fact it is incestuous to be toxic enough, like, we kind of have to grade on a curve here, lol. In most cases, especially with canon incestuous couples, it is going to have some aspect of their relationship be "toxic", because the people that are making this content are afraid to show a loving, happy and healthy romantic relationship between relatives, that doesnt have a tragic backstory, like being abused and neglected, that as a result, encourages their forbidden love. Or at least it makes normies feel better about the fact that it could never happen in real life, except in these super specific dysfunctional situations. Its very rare for these characters not to have toxic traits, such as being controlling, jealous, violent, or straight up criminals if the pairing is canon and not just imagined, but we take what we can get in that department. And i personally enjoy some angst, its part of the appeal to me, but the darker parts (i.e m*rder and r*pe) i am able to dissect from a pairing i like and just pretend it doesnt exist in my head canon, especially in the cases where there is a tragic ending, because otherwise it'd hamper my enjoyment severely. Not to mention, these are fictional characters, i dont necessarily think we need to apply real life judgement on them, yes they are toxic by real world standards, but thats why they end up together, if they werent abused and neglected, they probably would have ended up with "normal" lives, and the ship wouldnt even exist, its just the nature of how incest shipping goes. 
You’re very right that most content creators are afraid to show loving, happy, and healthy romantic relationship between relatives. Even independent content creators are reluctant. Even if they’re not afraid of backlash, it’s like there’s this fear that it’s inferior because it’s unrealistic or something like that. Ironically, it’s the edgiest thing you could do. 
There are going to be two different kinds of fans - those who are willing to “grade on a curve” (I like that analogy a lot) and those who aren’t. I have nothing against those who have to approach it objectively, but as someone who has suffered through so many ships that have gone sour or ended in ways beyond saving, I’m definitely prone towards being forgiving to the few that aren’t as bad as the others or taking what I can get. 
I also think it’s OK to ship something as if some event or whatever had never happened. It’s basically just an AU fanfic in your head. 
@sassybisquit:  So, I have to say something in response to the anti-Chris anon. These books are not romances. They are, all the way through the fourth book, primarily about how victims become villains (while still remaining victims) and various consequences of that and trying to work off the bad you've done and not pass on the bad way you've been treated. And still failing. That's the plainest way I can say it, and I'm annoyed I have to. That's all I'm going to say, besides the fact that I don't think Chris was bad for Cathy or treated her badly (besides the very important plot-wise, but not romantic, rape). But everybody can have different opinions, which is great.
FITA gets marketed as a romance sometimes, but in my mind, it’s in the horror genre. 
I do think that VC Andrews - and as a result, Cathy - puts the blame for the sexual assault on what was done to Chris and not as much on Chris himself. And readers are going to approach that differently. Authorial intent is a whole debate unto itself.

Have you given your in-depth thoughts on Esme before? Thanks to many in the fandom yourself included, I’ve grown to like Jane, Rosalie, and Leah. I wanna love the women so bad (minus Alice). But tell me, do you think Steph just did her dirty? Do you think she’s a doormat? Is there something in her that you like that I can’t see yet? She’s gorgeous, but her characterization is hard to want to defend.
I have to agree with you anon, love Elizabeth Reaser but Esme seems to be lacking. Its no ones fault but SMeyers, but we are just not given enough. And what we do get is pretty strange.
I don't necessarily see Esme as a doormat but as someone who needs is clinging to this illusion of a perfect family. She's a stay at home mom for kids who don't eat, don't make too much of a mess and don't need to be coddled/cuddled. What on earth is she doing all day? They don't even have any dust to shed, so she cannot be cleaning endlessly. Does she just watch daytime soap operas and Ellen? She doesn’t even have a car, I’m so serious it’s in the illustrated guide. She can’t even pretend to be human. I mean we know her control isn’t great so it’s probably for the best but still, give her a minivan for gods sakes. As another woman with a terrifying tragic backstory, you would think there was more depth but the more you peel back on Esme we just get nothing? No thoughts head empty kind of vibe. I say this because upon trying to find exactly what chapter it was (Eclipse CH 9 btw) Esme suggests that a vampire might be in Bellas room because they are curious about the Cullens and they might not have any bad intentions. Ma'am, your future daughter in law is walking safety hazard to herself, please get it together, no random vampire is going to come in a humans room looking for more vampire friends.
She also does not seem to care for human life as much as the Cullens all say they do, since we see in Midnight Sun that when Carlisle sent Esme to try and get her to tell Edward he should stay away from Bella, Esme is perfectly fine with him eating her if it makes Edward happy and less stressed. I--
And while we are on Edward, there does seem to be that weird boy mom energy with him. She tells Bella hes the best out of all the Cullens, like her other "children" aren't right there??? I mean most likely Edward reminds him of the son she lost and what he may have turned out to be, but Edward is quite literally a weirdo. But at least if SMeyer had dug into that maybe it would have made her character more interesting. Instead she is given the ability to love? I just dont really get that. Shes also more than happy, and not at all triggered by Ragdoll. Bella is the hero once again because her daughter (that she never takes care of) has given Esme, and Rosalie the fulfilment of the baby they lost or never had.
I would have loved if after Bella took Rigatoni, she pulls Carlisle aside and says she needs some time away because shes realizing that it isnt her baby and it never will be. And the sped up process probably would hurt her too.
There isnt really anything to hate about her, she is the only Cullen besides Carlisle that doesnt call Jacob and the rest of the Quileute's dogs or mutts, so she does get some bonus points there. I think my biggest disdain of hers is how much she enables Edward. Not in the way Alice does, just in the way that he can seem to do no wrong. Rosalie even calls herself and the others substitutes. Which is so sad, but Esme is only like 26, so the Cullens probably cant fit into the ' i need to protect these babies at all costs,' it probably breaks the illusion. Which is why I imagine Edward, a boy that was probably skin and bones about to die of the flu probably brings out her maternal side, he is going to be permanently look like a sick child that needs her care, because as much as everyone loves Rob, Edward was only 17. A sick, almost dead 17 year old boy from the 1900's, mans was itty bitty (theory???that thats why Bella also was drawn to him, since she always feels like she has to take care of people)
Honestly, I think I wrote her as an unhinged antagonist once because I feel like she could be in the right circumstances, but because of the lack of information she could go either way. She's just another character we have to like because she likes Bella. Even then, its always to serve Bella. I have my own headcanons on how she should be because in the end, if we go by SMEYERS CANON then we know that the mindset you die in, is the mindset you stay in. Meaning Esme should be terrified of being intimate with a man even if it is Carlisle. Probably more so since her first husband was so charming until he wasnt. She should be in a state of constant depression because she literally unalived herself. But she was turned and wheee I get to be with the man I had a crush on when I was a teenager (we are not digging that up) and wheee I get to be a mom to an angsty emo child.
To give her some hope, I will say that its all a trauma response, which should be plausible thanks to canon but in my world it can. But boy, getting her to open up to some kind of vampire therapist and who knows what they could find.

QUESTIONS FOR OC CREATORS
Haaaa ok so I am doing this cause i saw @fallout-lou-begas steal it from @tarberrymentats and they both looked like they were havin hella fun so i am commandeering this for my own purposes. So lucky for yall its Emi time (art by the dearest @yesjejunus because yall need to see more of her work)

A) Why are you excited about this character?
Because she's an older woman (57) that breaks a lot of moulds and I love to see it. Aside from just enjoying older characters, Emi isn't a sweet old lady and she isn't here to try and mother anyone. Her drives are entirely her own and while she prioratizes herself and her sister before anyone else, its not always due to complete selfishness and just due to growing up in the wastes (I try to keep her character true to a fend for yourself setting as possible). I think Ill go into detail in another question with this, but I went through a lot of concepts and personalities for Emi before settling on someone who was seasoned and very much a product of the wastes. I think after seeing a lot of other couriers I finally figured out what I wanted to do differently, and that sort of helped guide her to become what she is today.
B) What inspired you to create them?
I think my last line there sort of short answers this. I wanted someone different from the other couriers I saw, and wanted to make one that was distinct or even juxtaposed against some tropes. She's a woman in her late 50s that doesnt try and play mom/granny to the companions, she very much has no stake in what happens to the Mojave, she doesnt care about Benny or that he shot her in the head (such is life in the Mojave, but she did have a job to complete so ripperoni him), and a lot of her motivations are selfish or exist to benefit her sister. She doesnt act 'old' in the fact that she isn't a wise caring soul or a grumpy old man, but rather her age is shown through her experience, and this also shapes her personality. She's never had to formally 'grow up' so she can come off as immature and irritating for her own entertainment, but she doesn't have youthful ignorance for how the world works. She knows how to be responsible but she doesnt have to act like it outwardly, even with her Tragic Caregiver Backstory.
C) Did you have trouble figuring out where they fit in their own story?
To a large degree in the beginning, yes, and to specific degrees now, also yes. Writing in general isnt my strong point though I did know what I wanted for her. The main image is there but the details are funky, and Ive been slowly hammering those out as I work along with her and Camila's stories. There's been some huge changes along the way that help push both of them towards an ending I like and that fits them, and even if it takes forever and I never actually write a fic, I'll be happy when she finally feels completed in New Vegas.
Aside from that, she kind of fits in anywhere in regards to AUs. My friend @yesjejunus and I have probably like 40000 fucking aus for our OCs and all of them feel just as organic and their canon stories.
D) Have they always had the same physical appearance, or have you had to edit how they look?
So I know I have an 'original concept Emilia' art on here where she looked like Laura Croft and had aviators but that wasnt even her first concept. I had originally wanted to make a petite southern belle type from Louisiana who used a shot gun and had a mean streak, but as I kept playing with concepts Emi really started to lean other places. Another huge change was her personality. Even when her concept got settled as a sniper from Mexico, she was suppose to be an early 30s caravan guard who was way too sure of herself. While there are reminents of that concept still in her, she has a lot more experience in the wastes and in think-on-your-feet situations to back up her attitude. Another thing she required was dropping her "take me seriously" personality with more goofy "i do what i want cause why not" traits.
E) Are they someone you would get along with? Would they get along with you?
Emi can get along with anyone at a surface level, for a small while, if it will benefit her or she wants to pass time. She really doesn't have interest in folks who arent interesting or beneficial in some way. Since I don't really offer her much, and am a bit of a wet bag, she might yank my chain for her own funsies or she'd have no interest.
And while I did indeed give Emi my go with the flow attitude, I think I wouldn't be able to keep up with her. Emi is very fast paced and doesnt necessarily have regard for those she decides to pick up as drinking buddies for the night. Def dont trust her with my life, and knowing the shit she gets into I'd def want to steer clear of it....like a trainwreck its much better to watch her from a safe distance, lol.
F) What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)?
A lot of affection from a meta standpoint? I've worked with Emi and Cam a lot since creating them, and they've def come a long way since their original concepts. I wouldn't say their story is quite where I want it yet, but I am quite happy with it overall.
That, and Ive met so many awesome writers along the way with Emi. Not all of my friends have posted fic but the amount of world building and having our characters interact and talking OCs ive done with them has placed both Emi and their OCs in a special place for me. Sure her having her own story is fun but I much more prefer the bonds Ive created with people over OCs and I think thats a bit more of a cherished component to character creation for me.
G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most?
Literally? That she likes to be irritating if she feels she can get away with it (or even if she cant). Actually? That she has a very "I shelter you and feed you therefore I make the rules, period." stance on how she takes care of her charge. She lets a lot of shit slide with Camila but things get very Rapunzel-esque at times.
H) What trait do you admire most?
How sure of herself she is. Even if its to a fault, she trusts herself and her judgements. That sort of confidence is something I strive to have haha.
To a lesser degree, and more of a meta point I wanted to make with her, just...her appearance I suppose? To me she's attractive, but she also has a lot of traits that aren't conventionally attractive and that's played a lot into how Ive wanted her to be. Again she's 57 years old. She has age to her body, her skin wrinkles and droops, her tits sag, she has the body of someone who uses chems, and yet despite her age and breaking of beauty standards ive made it a point to show that she is desired or thought of as attractive in non fetish specific circumstances. She herself, while aro, also still has an active sex drive and I really wanted this to be a backseat part of her character, as I feel like fandom in general shafts older women in this department (this also goes for a lot of her non 'old lady' traits I give her too). She still has sexual needs and is still very much sexually active, and she is still found to be a regular sort of attractive and is desired by those she gets involved with.
J) Did you have to manipulate or exclude canon factors to allow them to create their character?
Yes? Ish, to a degree. I didnt have to but I wanted to. I also did a lot of headcanoning with post Mexico for her early life which, afaik is free real estate for lore/nothing super detailed has been given in canon.
Given that she and Camila both shape their stories as individuals, I did have to split up some canon elements to follow two seperate characters, but other than that I really just had to make sure Emilia's story wasnt "boring" in the fact that she again, has no real stake in what happens to Vegas/the Mojave.
I) Do you prefer to keep them in their canon universe?
Cackles in 'which au will I obsess with today'
For the most part yes, however I love placing her in new things or different stories. She may be 'my courier' but really shes just the frog granny that goes into whatever au I am feeling at the time.

PokeV3 AU – Boys!
Rantaro
Flying Type
His theme is loosely based on travel.
He got delibird because he canonly likes to bring back souvenirs. Mantyke was his first pokemon and hes been using it to travel around on the water. The rest he got just by traveling to different parts of the world.
Rantaro is a traveler for sure, but when he finally settles down I imagine he would become a pokemon breeder and he studies for that while traveling.
His family is different than canon so heres some info on them too:
His dad is like a green haired Saxton Hale. Used to adventure a lot but then settled and became a business man, and a surprisingly good one at that. He owns the poke center chain and a certain mansion where he let's people visit and battle the staff for fun. Absolutely loves the fact that his son is adventurous like he was and will pay for whatever he needs. Not worried about Rantaro because he turned out all right, so why wouldn't his son? Adventure runs in his veins haha! He's just a happy go lucky guy that really loves his kids and supports them.
His mom is VERY worried about Rantaro in stark contrast to her husband, and gets mad that her husband is so carefree about their own child. She waits impatiently for the day Rantaro finally settles down so she doesn't have to worry anymore. Very doting and cute!
His sisters arent lost, they're the poke center nurses!

Ryoma
Fighting Type
His theme is competition and teamwork!
Ryoma used to be one of the youngest people in the elite four until his pokemon got stolen by the antagonist team. He barely made it out alive, but lost his pokemon and hasn't been the same since.
Would only adventure if someone gave him hope that he could find them again. The adventure ends when he finds them all because he'll want to go back home and settle down now that he's finally got them back.
He wouldn't necessarily get back into the elite four after finding them because he's just not as enthusiastic as he used to be about fighting, but he would probably become someone that gives advice to young trainers around his town.
He used to be super famous when he was in the elite four, and everyone knew him for his competitive spirit and his good sportsmanship. Lots of people still remember him and wonder what happened to make him quit so suddenly.
While he's still missing his pokemon he would hate it when people would be like "omg weren't you in the elite four?!?!" but when he gets them back he just kinda cracks half a smile and chuckles, not really answering but also not saying no.

Korekiyo
Ghost Type
His theme is ancient culture to absolutely no one's surprise.
Frosslass was given to him by his sister. He found golett, yamask, and duskull in different archeological digs that he visited. Banette and misdreavus just took a liking to him, so they joined up with him. He's surprisingly really good with ghosts types? They just like him for some reason...
Korekiyo is an anthropologist like in canon.
His sister is alive but she's really frail after her health took a dramatic turn and has to stay home instead of exploring like she used to. She was super into ice type pokemon, but cant go catch them because her body can't handle the weather anymore.
Kork wants to show his sister the world she cant go out and see anymore and so he travels and brings back souvenirs and pictures for her. She's a little sad she can't go with him, but tries to keep her spirits up despite not being able to fulfill her dream and supports her little brother's dream instead. She's still getting used to the thought of not being able to adventure like she used to.
She was a kinda famous ice type trainer that was about to make it big before her health started failing.
Her health problem is hereditary and her mother died from it when Korekiyo was born because her body couldnt handle the illness and giving birth to Korekiyo at the same time. She won't die as long as she's careful, which includes not going into cold areas and not engaging in strenuous activity. Only the girls in the family get it, and no one really knows what it is.
They dont know where their dad went, but he left after their mother died because he couldn't stand the grief.

Gonta
Bug Type
Fun bug fact: he somehow managed to accidentally catch all the bug types people that freak people out (spider, centipede, wasp/bee hybrid, bugs with pinschers, the parasite one, etc). People have run away from battles with him before and he feels bad about it but cant figure out why they ran.
Gonta doesn't really battle so much as he goes looking for new bug type pokemon. Really enthusiastic about bug types and helps his professor by giving him all the field notes he writes.
Oddly doesn't seem to have any parents? The professor has basically adopted him at this point and they don't talk about it.

Kaito
Dragon Type
His theme is any pokemon he thinks is cool.
Kaito wants to be the champion and if he calls someone his sidekick it means he wants to have them be in his elite four.
He has a penchant for doing things he thinks other people would find cool. Probably has a fucking cape and sunglasses. Wants what Leon has so fucking badly but ends up looking like an egomaniac and a try hard on accident. Totally lies about his adventures to try and look cooler to people, but little does he know that no one ever believes him.
Hasn't actually traveled much despite what he may tell you, but you could get him to tag along as long as there are no ghost types involved. He's scared of them.
Hates cold weather.

Kokichi
Ghost Type
His theme was childish looking pokemon, but then they evolved so it's mischievous pokemon with cool and spooky lore
If the dex entry mentions anything about children, odds are he's caught it already. He's a magnet to those types of ghost pokemon for some reason.
The way he caught his drifloon was cuz it thought he was a little kid and tried to steal him lmao
Kokichi "haunts" (read: terrorizes the townsfolk of) whatever place he's at until he gets bored, then he goes to a new place and starts again. He's another one that oddly doesn't seem to have parents.
He gets excited by adventure and challenges, but I dont think he would leave his country unless he had people he really cares about ask him to go with them, and he'd only go because he doesn't want them to leave him. He'd eventually come around to the idea of traveling and really enjoy it, you just have to give him some time to adjust.
Kokichi in this AU gets really attached to places/things/people that leave an impression on him and doesn't wanna let them go kinda like how ghosts possess places and things and dont want to leave until they get exorcised or find closure. Luckily for Kokichi he "definitely doesn't" let himself get attached to things anymore. I wonder why...?
His tragic backstory is that he's always had an affinity to ghost types and that freaked everyone out so they basically cast him out when he was younger and he's lowkey traumatized by it. Was kinda raised by ghost types in an abandoned, haunted mansion after that because they liked him a lot. Raised in that place but eventually forced to leave because it was so decrepit that it finally collapsed.
Once he meets someone he likes who actually likes him too, he sticks to them like glue and doesn't let go. So much for not getting attached.
Scared of bug types.
Likes Falinks and Pawniard even though they're not ghost types.

Kiibo
Electric/Steel Types
Kiibo is human in this AU. He's a technology enthusiast and a huge fan of Miu's work.
Knows a lot about pokemon like Shuichi and would absolutely geek out with him, but his interest is mostly directed towards steel and electric pokemon rather than all of them, unlike Shuichi's interest in ALL pokemon.
Heir to his father's tech company and that's how he met Miu; she works for his dad. They're really good friends and have been for years.
Magearna has been passed down through his family.

Psychic Type
Shuichi is a pokemon fanatic and is probably in a pokemon fan club.
Studies all day about everything from type matchups to berries but gets overwhelmed and forgets everything he's learned until he really gets into the battle.
Not bad at battling when he's not overwhelmed.
He's good to have around because he's basically a walking wiki page.
He has a knack for finding pokemon and his life goal is probably to try and discover new species or types of pokemon.
His uncle is a detective and he still lives with him like in canon. He's tracks down lost pokemon more than anything though because those are the only cases he really enjoys working on. I imagine he would be like a lost pet/pokemon detective when he's older because that's his specialty.
Solved a big case involving the antagonist team when he was younger and wears a hat to hide his face so they don't recognize him and try to get revenge. Really, really hopes that it will eventually blow over.
He would be nervous about traveling very far, but looking on the bright side of things he gets a change in pace, some new experiences, a chance to avoid the antagonist team, and new friends. He would accept for those reasons, but he would only go with someone he trusts.

dong gu, joon ki, and doo shik are long-time best friends who run a guest house/hostel called Waikiki. in addition to the guest house, they have dreams of making it in the film industry: dong gu as a director, joon ki as an actor, and doo shik as a writer. they’re barely getting by when one morning they wake up and there’s a baby hiding in a bunk bed.
the show’s a lot better than what im selling, but it follows these three, yoon nah, seo jin, and soo ah as they go through nonsense, love, and more nonsense

tragic backstory so long the show had to finish it off-screen. sick beats. terrible present giver. so cute people almost die from it (people is dong gu)

the screenwriter seems to have a Weird Thing about girls farting. it only happens like 4 times throughout 20ish hours but it’s still really...something

i fucking cackled from beginning to end on this one. like. gross, ugly, loud laughs that woke up my spouse at 3am. it’s legit the funniest kdrama i’ve seen 
the. ships. they’re all so amazing. there’s three main ones and they’re very distinct and heartwarming in different (and, in one case, very strange) ways. we got tall and small, grumpy and happy, friends to lovers, found family, sensual face shaving-
HERE’S MY FAVORITE: so the show sets up all these kdrama scenarios that im so tired of and then subverts or sidesteps them. for example:
The Ex-Girlfriend Moving In........has the male lead constantly yelling that he doesn’t like her anymore while low-key checking for the new love interest’s reactions to make sure she doesn’t believe he likes her. the ex-girlfriend also has zero interest in the male lead and gets along great with the New Love Interest
Oh My God She’s A Single Mother.....so don’t be an asshole to her (TAKE NOTES CAMELLIA)
spoiler A Friend Wants To Date A Friend’s Ex-Girlfriend..........literally no one cares. it is, in fact, not even brought up that the ex-girlfriend is an ex-girlfriend
spoiler the Rich Stable Man in the love triangle plans to confess his feelings....and tells the female lead to go after the guy she actually likes. he also helps the other side of the love triangle win a camera because his broke and he can’t afford a new one
spoiler The Baby’s Father Shows Up Wanting A Second Chance......and is told to leave 3 times then does. he doesn’t even get a name tag
it does play some relatively straight (ex: brother finding out about his sister and best friend dating and Not Taking It Well), but they’re done in an entertaining way and the melodrama throughout the story is really light/over quickly

I like it much better if reimi was just a random attack. Not involved with kira or a crush or anything. Neither shinobu. At least until much later when he was masquerading as her husband.
It makes more sense and is way more realistic and less too convenient.
Plus it keeps unnecessary shipping out of the equation.
(Look its different with self ship and inserts and aus, But if we wanna develop a backstory to something plz leave shipping out so we can actually focus on development)
Like Kira,like most killers. To have a zone of comfort. But his attacks were at women who were nasty,kinda bitches and not very nice. Maybe a bit snotty. Reimi n shinobu are not those kinds of girls.
Most of kiras women he attacked n killed were not people he knew or cared for.
So if he did care for a young reimi or shinobu. It wouldn't make sense.
Most of the ship stuff it feels kinda too convenient. And not necessarily interesting at all. There is no oomf.
Now i can get behind Kira's parents being abusive coddling dicks. That is a fan theory i love and makes sense for a majority of kiras serial killer tendencies. Besides messed up, brain trauma,intrusive thoughts, etc.
But it's better to keep it as a random girl he just happened to see. And she was just at the wrong place,wrong time to cross him. And she didnt even know it. It happens more often than you think.
A random outburst towards a stranger you dont even know and they can unhinge due to abuse at home and just like...snap.
Like it's too weird and convenient and boring for the young shinobu thing. And too oof for reimi.
I dont care if you like a ship. Whatever. But please leave it out of making backstories for serial killer villain archtypes.
Look i love yandere territory as much as the next person. But even i know when to take a step back and actually analyze something.
Reimi is amazing. But what happened to her is tragic. Dont make a mockery of a good story for any kind of shipping.
Maybe she wanted to be friends but was weirded out? Who knows. Why does it have to be romantic? Maybe kira wanted a friend who was a girl but didn't know how to do it due to his parents and society.
You do forget he was from a very traditionalist and strict ass family right?
Like i can go on and on bout this type of crap. I dunno i feel like people go for boring and vanilla type of explaining of kiras brain. But i like things from a different perspective. And less shippy type of explanation.
Not everyone has to know each other. Or care or be in a crush or some shit. Some shit just happens. And sometimes bad shit happens randomly to good people.

So please. Less shippy reimi,less shippy shinobu(unless its at the appropriate time where he was kosaku,because that makes more sense tbh) and more actually understanding the point and center of why. Why he killed. Why he does what he did. Or even didnt do. Like i love some yandere like i said but i know when to detach the uwu heart eyes hun.
Love Kira. My fave jojo villain of all time. But like i said. There are ways to write this type. And ways not to.
And so far. I have seen some good stuff. But eh. Not much.
Like fluff kira. Good shit. Husbando material,definitely. Spicy kira. Mmmmm. Good shit.
But you still have to remember ..... HE KILLED PEOPLE. AND MAYBE STILL DOES(if you keep him alive or have aus). even if you wanna wrote his where he redeemed himself. And only kills people who do deserve it. Aka criminals or really scummy people. Sure. But he still has apeshit,cat goes boom,tendencies. Don't forget who you are writing.
I love my villains to be honest villains. Redemption or not. Kira at the end of the day is still Japanese david Bowie,norman bates,with a hand kink.

FEH Villains Ranked
from best to worst, excluding book 4 cause its still ongoing
lif: genuinely surprised me by being an alfonse with pathos. well he started book 3 as a kinda generic number 2 type, the revelation of his identity as alfonse (though rather obvious at that point) as well as his goal of essentially destroying other worlds as a penance to restore his own is both suitably threatening and tragic. Creating that sense of pathos i mentioned that works so well for him, especially when hes shown to still be a kind person at heart thats been pushed into such horrific actions because of the devastation he had to endure. Especially when you consider that hes carrying the weapon that could kill hel with him which, although kinda lazy that he just has it, is a) a hel of a lot less contrived then anything book 2 pulled off and b) further deepens that sense of pathos when we consider that not only is it a memento of ‘player san’ and presumably everyone else hes lost but that it can also represent, in a way, a symbol of his own failure of will and bowing the knee to hel. Him prioritizing his own happiness and fulfillment in the form of hel resurrecting his world over the good of the ‘fe multiverse’. Point being, its a complexity of character that I honestly wish we got to see more of, and one I really wasn’t expecting from fe heroes given its track record. you’ll see what i mean down the road.
hel: well not terribly complex in motivation, she basically just wants to kill everything to increase her own power, she gets points for a strong presentation and utilization within the story book 3 creates. The limitations on her insta death power being kinda silly aside, though gustavs gambit to circumvent that i honestly really like more so then alfonses rules lawyering, the overhanging presence she has in the lives of book 3′s characters works really well and the pressure to defeat her because of her effectively endless legions works better as an overhanging threat anyways. When I say presentation though I mean more so in how her words, actions, and motivation intersect because well her words on the face of it have the usual villain posturing, her motivation and actions (such as her relation to eir and her generals, and the world she rules over and created) creates an interesting intersection where one can argue that her posturing words are empty of any true feeling. Shes cold and lifeless like the dead she rules and the world she creates, those around her are simply tools to an end but hardly in a cackling manner and more so in the unthinking manner one treats a toothpick. she gets angry or shocked but even then its in a muted manner, almost performing the emotions rather then truly feeling them. Hel lives in an unchanging world, a stillness brought on by the finality of death, and in a way one can argue that its her unspoken desire to spread that stillness, that perfect unchanging world she controls, to every world. Like lif, its a degree of complexity that I wish we got to see more of, especially in her case, and its something i honestly wasnt expecting from heroes.
helbindi: solely because the man goes through a lot of shit, and is an effective portrayal of a sympathetic villain. Hes effectively a camus if a camus was foul mouthed and more thuggish and that works for him, and is rather endearing in its own way when he acts concerned for his little sister and does the ‘im a thug who hugs kittens when no ones looking’ routine which i like when its done well. point being, he could have been a generic thug but hes a lot more interesting for not being one. However, his general pointlessness to the story, aside from giving us an indication that shock of shocks surtrs a shitty king and an excuse to escort ylgir around places who also does jack shit in the story... heroes is always going to suffer from having to compress its story telling but that fact they waste so much time with helbindi and ylgir and hrud when so much of what they do is either unnecessary to the story or themes present in book 2 or could have been given to other characters and make those characters better for it... helbindi gets to be up here for sympathy points and favoritism, but i am stretching here for ya mate.
thrasir: stronger character wise then helbindi, an interesting relation to lif of enemies turned into close friends over a shared trauma and servitude, plays into some of the same strengths of hel and lif that make them so engaging, yadda, yadda, yadda. So why is she below helbindi? because she doesnt get to do anything, and only starts to get interesting right before her death. If she had been given a bigger role comparable to lif, or just more time to stew in her own motivations she’d easily surpass helbindi. its also not helped that thrasirs own desire to resurrect her brother is similar to veronicas pre established selfishness, which isnt as strong a contrast as lifs selfishness and guilt against alfonses character. Her relation to lif does hint at a stronger sense of kidness and morality instilled within her because of that relation, which is interesting and would make a strong contrast against veronica, but again we get like five seconds of it before shes killed off and then a little more of it again at the end. Deserved more time on screen then she got, and would have probably been number 2 here if she had gotten it. 
veronica: bratty child becomes evil sorcerer emperor, more at 11. I like the concept of veronica, its something fes never really touched on much aside from maybe a little bit with julius with his more childish antics. Veronica however cranks that up a lot more, shes impatient and gets bored easily, she wants more friends but in a selfish ‘friend is someone who does everything I want right?’ way, shes emblas ruler and she has the emotional maturity of an evil 10 year old and i just kinda like it. Especially since she tempers it with an air of sophistication and intelligence, much like the classic evil sorcerers fe loves to utilize in villain roles, and it helps balance out the bratty child from being too annoying in the villain role. It helps lend a sense of her trying to present herself as a grown up for the respect and authority that brings, well simultaneously maintain all the perks of being a kid who gets everything she wants. It’s a shame then that the narrative keeps sidelining her, either by focusing on other villains, her god damn brother getting in the fucking way, or with the overhanging implications of magic dragon possession being the root cause of her behavior. I can forgive the magic dragon possession though since that is an fe staple and could works towards more interesting character aspects rather then undercutting her. Regardless, she sure is great when things are actually about her, and i really wish things would get back to being about her.
Laegjarn: solely here because she loves her sister, shes rather flat as a character otherwise. It would have been one thing if she displayed a sense of brutality instilled in her by a childhood being raised by surtr, only dropping the shell when it came to her sister and reigning herself in for the sake of that one familial bond she treasures... instead shes just kinda nice and loves her sister, and yet still works for surtr for some fucking reason. @agoddamn and @ezralahm mention an aspect of learned helplessness to xanders character in fates that people tend to gloss over (heaven knows why, cause its fairly in your face even in the english translation), and that should be something that comes across in laegjarn, but its doesnt really. not as much as it should anyways. Another victim of book 2′s pointless writing.
loki: evil sexy lady with big boobies and a one leg cutout tights pants thing. heres someone who can transform into anyone, and yet she never really does anything with it. oh she does ‘things’, just not things that have much point to them, or really feel like they fit into some larger scheme. she’d be right at home as a recurring villain in an episodic story, coming up with some inane scheme for todays episode that gets foiled and she gets sent ‘blasting off again’. I dont necessarily hate the sexy seductress character, the noire bombshells and the like, they can be fun when done well. loki just doesnt do it well, coming off as more grating and annoying then tempting honestly, and as a villain she lacks anykind of actual menace. My feelings on her are similar to my feelings on aversa honestly, heres someone who should be so cool and threatening, a real menace to the heroes using their skills and abilities behind the scenes to move threats against the heroes, never taking to the field unless they can benefit from it and have an assured chance of victory or safety... but then they never actually do anything, as any of the actions possibly attributable to them either happen offscreen or probably would have happened without them doing anything. Loki and aversa could have stayed home twiddling their thumbs and nothing would change, and thats the real shame about them. Doesn’t help they aren’t particularly fun or entertaining as villains either due to lackluster writing.
surtr: garon 2.0, but with even less complexity. Well garon may have been a blatantly evil prick, he at least had backstory that provoked some degree of complexity and even sympathy, both to him and those hurt by his evil dragon possession personality change. Surtr lacks even that, acting more like a petty thug given way to much power then an imposing ruler. He garon without the backstory complexity, and in a way hes walhart without the air of regality and charisma that helped elevate walhart from being god awful in his own right. And well it could have been interesting if the story made any attempts to comment on that or work it into a central story theme or flow of some sort, it doesnt really do that and instead treats him as if he has and indeed deserves the same credibility and impression walhart or garon or any of the other fire emblem emperor kings have left. But the game doesnt ever actually work for that with him. Hes the emeperor, so he automatically deserves respect as a villain. and thats... so typical of book 2′s writing.
laevatein: shes boring as sin, even with her relation to her sister and the tragedy of losing her. Like her sister, she would have benefited from an impression of learned helplessness but the game never really bothers with it. moving on because i can barely give a shit about her.
bruno: this mother fucker... an annoying detraction that overtakes veronicas spotlight and screentime, an excuse for alfonse wangst that never really lands, pointless and useless... the benefit of book 2 and 3 so far has been his reduced importance, but i fully expect him to come roaring back to steal veronicas position once the story shifts back to an area she should be the focus of. the only thing he has going for him is the sense of a camus struggling with dragon possession but thats more so used for alfonse wangst then it is for anything constructive. What do i mean by alfonse wangst? I mean angst that really serves no narrative purpose then for the sake of unnecessary melodrama, as opposed to informing us anything about the characters or themes of the story. he makes veronica look worse, his drama with alfonse is a waste of time, and he really provides nothing else then a recurring boss fight and get out of jail free card for the story. I’m putting him below laevatein because well i dont give much of a shit about her, she atleast doesnt actively annoy me and still had the potential for something. Bruno however? the story would be better off without him. So fuck him.

hi all !! this is an introduction to my freshest muse and newest baby yeo eunchan otherwise and more commonly known as ‘chan’, he’s a sweetheart but of course because its me and i can’t resist giving my muses slight torture, he’s a tormented sweetheart. if you look at his pinterest here you’ll get an idea of his style better since that’s pretty essential to him as a muse in this case hshd. below the cut you can find out a bit more about him and if you hit the like, i’ll be sure to throw him at you for plots !! lets get into it: 
BACKSTORY: 
chan’s childhood wasn’t particularly dark or strained. he is by far the least tragic out of all my muses. but for me, that’s still pretty tragic by mosts standards. growing up he always had a very supportive father in regard to his homosexuality and androgynous qualities. he grew up in a happy home and despite not being rich he was very fortunate to have rich opportunities come his way. to be fair he’s pretty easily pleased but most of his experiences thus far have been plentiful
perhaps that is why his luck has to run out somewhere down the line, in the worst way it possibly could. his mother passed when he was young due to cancer. it was a grave and difficult time for his father as well as the rest of the family. his father crumbled eventually, in the hospital with health issues now that are so severe he’s due to pass any day and is basically in a vegetative state already. chan was left to raise his five year old sister nari and take on the responsibility. 
for this reason, he could be considered a struggling single father as he’s pushing his own dreams and goals aside to accomodate for nari and make sure she has the best upbringing which is comfortable for her, where she can see chan as a father figure as well as an older brother now, who can be relied upon and responsible. balancing the line and the roles between brother and father isn’t always easy though when the lines are constantly blurred. he has sacrificed most of himself and his youth to keep nari happy and healthy and mostly untouched by the death of their parents. 
this hasn’t been easy though, it’s left chan isolated and with no one to speak to but the five year old girl a lot of his feelings get locked in a box and left unexplored, he cannot have a moment of hesitation or weakness because then that will affect nari. his mourning process and grieving has been put on a backline, and he only really allows himself to break down in quiet moments without nari. such as when walking through the forest to be with nature, visiting their graves or on the edge of his bed having a good cry when nari is fast asleep due to the feeling of living in the empty space where his parents used to fill it all up. 
PERSONALITY: 
chan is a makeup artist, he does it professionally for models and artists all throughout the industry but he also does it for fun, becoming pretty popular as a person who gives tutorials on youtube and instagram as an ‘influencer’ but he really hates that label and prefers to simply think of himself as an artist. he also does the bit of fashion blogging and photography on the side. 
he considers himself an adventurer and for that reason he also travels a lot, usually while he is there he’ll study as he does photography for a course as well as a part time student and his main interest is in ancient architecture and art. most of the time he’ll roadtrip in his styled up vintage pick up but occasionally its flights to more beachy area’s, his two favorite places are greece and italy and he spends most of his time in those places if he can.
chan has a very vintage sense of style and he enjoys doing most things the traditional and old school way. although he does add a modern mindset to a lot of it. aesthetically style wise envision chan as fingers full of plenty of rings, ankle bracelets and arm cuffs with loose puffy sleeved shirts and ripped up mom jeans or high waisted ones. he cycles mostly everywhere on his vintage style bike. 
very much a gentle soul, little bit of a nerd and activist in the sense he wants to save the earth. he can be really intense about learning about nature and how to preserve it. he has always felt the most in touch with the natural world compared to the hum and chaos of the modern world and city life. he’s no saint of course and he’s still a sucker for coffee but other than that he likes to think he does his best. 
paints and draws very amazingly likewise, he prefers to draw flowers and people the most but he’ll work with whatever he’s got on hand. usually you can only catch him whipping out a sketchbook if he’s feeling stressed or overwhelmed as a form of escapism and quiet time. 
he is a little bit of a quixotic type so sue him, like one of the ‘have you ever fallen in love’ 'five times a day’ types but it’s not obsessive, it’s more of an admiration he considers all people beautiful and worthy of love in their own way and would state most of them are art to him. you could be the worst person and he’d be all ’ you dont have all the facts’ 'which are?’ 'i love them’.
although he doesn’t identify as genderfluid, he has a very genderfluid and androgynous sense of fashion and often wears clothing and makeup typically labelled as being more feminine. he likes a soft and classy look that usually consists of a good lip tint or ultra glossy lip and a natural but glittery smokey eye look. think kinda like the instagram influencer ivanbaaaaah for reference. 
MISC: 
growing up chan struggled with religion a lot, he and his family are very religious but his sexuality caused some issues. his father had always been supportive but his mother was a different story, unfortunately his memories with her aren’t the fondest. though he has a very dark history with religion, he loves to be in churches that are empty or abandoned for moments of reflection. often he wonders if he doesn’t even have god as the one consistent and reliable thing in his life, then what the hell does he have. he feels even now sometimes that he’s letting god and his mother down for the way he is but there is less shame now than what he suffered when younger. 
everything in his life basically revolves around nari, she goes most places with him and any task he’ll find a way to make fun for her, he doesn’t spoil her but he also doesn’t ever leave her to go without even if that is at his expense to do so. they love to bake together and he does that pretty often. 
has a part time job as a barista on night shifts and also in a patisserie. he works from home on his influencer content again to accommodate for nari and he also takes his course in photography and media online to best suit nari so he doesn’t have to leave her with a babysitter too often as he believes that’s no childhood and him just being lazy in his duty towards her as her parental figure at this pivotal time in her life. 
he’s putting off most of his dreams and aspirations right now for until nari is older, he could’ve been much more famous as an influencer but he chose not to be and put those opportunities to broaden his career on hold for a while because having a famous sibling in her life wasn’t the kind of overwhelming attention and pressure nari needed to be surrounded with right now. 
he honestly just wants to make sure nari grows up feeling safe, comfortable and happy as well as confident in herself and chan. she’s his primary responsibility and he considers himself her closest bet to a father now so he wants her to feel she has that bond with him as well as the bond of him being her brother. 
PLOT BUNNIES: 
a babysitter plot would be great, someone who he can rely on and uses often to leave nari with when he has no other choice and particularly on nights when he has to work. ideally it would be someone nari felt very close to and idolized so he knew they had an amazing relationship and she’d be happy and relaxed when he was gone. he’s very over protective of her so he’d also have to feel pretty close to the person. it could go any way really, it could be a pining thing, a best friend thing, whatever honestly. 
this boy definitely needs a confidant so throw that at me any day. 
friends who can help him reconnect with religion and spirituality in different ways so he knows there’s always a way for him to feel tied to god somehow and a god who loves him and best suits his needs somewhere even if it isn’t necessarily in the religion he grew up with. 
work buddies at the cafe he works in or patisserie would be amazing too. 
maybe a tutor/study buddy kinda person he met online through doing his course of media and photography to make sure he was making up for the classes he was missing out on by not being able to attend day lectures in college. 
just people with the similar hobby of photography would also be awesome or models even that he can do a couple of freelance jobs for on the side when they need him. 
muses for him to draw they’d be very special people indeed bc chan will rarely whip his sketchbook out in front of anyone let alone ask to draw them. 
more single parent muses would also be awesome eventually or older siblings who kind of take on that role half the time so have some idea of what its like who he could meet through taking nari to things like nursery, etc. 
neighbor bc who doesn’t love a good single dad and his neighbor plot  who’s all like woah that guy is super young and he has a kid but im also sure there’s no woman on the scene and wow they’re noisy and its kinda infuriating but its also cute as hell cause he’s a hella good dad and in the mornings i can hear them baking and doing food fights or playing together and i often see them messing about coming back from grocery shopping etc and actually its kinda touching?? 
gay pals cause we love gay pals as well as ur everyday pals we love a platonic bond between fellow gays. 
love interests of any kind rlly, pining situations, crushing, flings, ex’s ( they’d have had to have ended on good terms tho bc chan just can’t hate anyone ), first times e.g. sexually, boyfriend, kiss u get the idea

For April Fools, I’m actually going to update this blog. I know, right? It’s been a little while.
I’ll have you know that, if I had more time, you were *this close* to getting a recap of this hot mess movie.

Buuuut it turns out that movie is a lot longer than I thought. Soooo many bad wigs. Maybe another April Fools.
Anyway, back to Yugioh, are you ready for MORE BUSINESS?
Cuz if you wanted to watch a kid’s show with stocks in it well, I had no idea it would be the one about the playing cards. Really didn’t see that one coming. Stocks are going to be traded in a little bit, but currently, all we have to worry about is that Tristan is a monkey and Kaiba’s about to die.
He seems cool with it, both with being “dead” (still unsure if Tristan can be human ever again) and watching Kaiba become dead.

Joey has completely run out of his thimble full of patience, and he’s taken over the part of Den Mother in lieu of Tristan being too horny/monkey to manage it himself. Watching Joey slowly become more and more too frustrated to Even Deal With This Right Now has been his character growth this entire arc.
And the team’s somewhat amusement and concern that one of their best friends--who they saw...pretty much die--and is now a very horny monkey is like how you would notice that your engine light is on. Like they just have so many other problems right now. They’ve decided they will get around to deciding what to do about this...later.
They’re definitely going to deal with the monkey later. Eventually. So they just tied him to the truck and continue driving.
Like that’s what they actually did, they actually just tied him to the truck and kept driving.

Eventually, they do make it to the scene of the Kaiba card crime in their 3 wheel pickup truck, but unfortunately, so does the weird satellite laser, so once again our team does not make it in time to really make any difference. The Yugi team is consistently like...3 minutes too late. Should be their team motto.

So Noah’s big plan is to make Mokuba watch Leichter--the hard to spell Big 5 with the very Dixie accent--explain in great detail all the ways Seto screwed Mokuba. And it was...something that I don’t think most kids would get. Last week it was a .com analogy, this week we’re straight up jumping into hostile takeovers. Seto decided to use the Big 5 to buy up a majority of the stock and fire his Father, but realized that Gozaburo would absolutely not let that happen.
So, Seto set up a whole plan to make it appear like he was losing the stock race, by leaking the whole plan that they were secretly buying allll the stock straight to Gozaburo but while pretending to be Mokuba (I assume by pinching his nose while shouting through a telephone) and then driving Mokuba to Gozaburo by attacking him point blank.
Did any children watching this show understand this? Did any of you?
Anyway, for some reason Mokuba is shocked that this happened.

And then we get a flashback to remind us that yes, Mokuba was here when this happened. Maybe didn’t understand it at the time, but overall, should know by now that like...this happened. Noah revealing this to him really shouldn’t have been such a shocker, right?

Mokuba describes it as “the worst day in his life” which is kind of a lot since two seasons ago Mokuba was chained in a castle cell for several days (possibly weeks), turned into a playing card while his body was a zombie that did dishes for Pegasus, died in a VR game because his brother couldn’t play nice, then last season, got abducted and then was suspended from the bottom of a flying helicopter by one single rope tied around his waist, was imprisoned in a box warehouse where he barely escaped, found out one of his good friends is pretty sure he’s an Egyptian Pharaoh dont-think-about-it, only to find all of his other friends were now attached to torture devices and about to be drowned in the bottom of the sea or squashed by a couple tons of cargo container. And then the next day, 3 people got sent to the hospital during the tourney he’s the manager of and only one of those people isn’t still in a coma, and now there’s at least one serial murderer on board his blimp and there’s nothing he can do about it.
But sure Moki, this is your worst day.
Convinced that Gozaburo (I will never spell his name right, PS, my apologies) thinks Moki is on his side, Kaiba decides to do the deed. In his school clothes. Not entirely positive that baby Kaiba has any other outfit than his school clothes and that purple coat.
Like did Seto get off school early to go and do this, or did he honestly clock in at 8 AM, harass Joey and Yugi for a bit, maybe take a test, turn in his diorama of mitochondria that he made out of twizzlers or whatever, eat lunch while making fun of the skater kids who botch it on the stairs, scribble some art in art class until 3 PM, and then take the bus back home to do THIS?

And so although the Big 5 were still majority shareholders, they couldn’t really control Seto Kaiba--which leads me to think that at some point he managed to get their stocks away from them...somehlow...probably more insider trading, he seems really into that.
Anyways, long story short the Big 5 really screwed it on this one. I mean the company has to be run by a Kaiba per the Kaiba rule that we learned in S1 (kind of a weird rule this family enforces, when all of the Kaibas are SO BAD at romantic relationships that they can only date trading cards, or can’t stop getting abducted long enough to even go on a date with a real human ((Reminder that Mokuba and Serenity are the same age, but he’s 1/millionth as horny as any of these High School Juniors that are into Serenity)))
Leichter (who is the light purple font here, I uh...forgot to cap Leichter’s face so it’s somewhat confusing) decided to just continue explaining, mostly for Mokuba, I assume, because...everyone here already knows what’s happening.

And at this point he reveals that he does have a Blue Eyes.
Again, very surprised Noah gave him that card but youknow...the power of...whatever the hell is going on there between Kaiba and that paper card.
Anyways, the Blue Eyes gives him a win, so I guess he’s figured out somewhat how to use this card? Like it’s significantly less bad than it was in the previous seasons. Maybe that separation between him and the paper card in S2 was good for him. Got his relationship back on track.

So like, something that is kind of vogue right now in more adult TV is this tendency to try and make all your characters relatable by making them realize and obsess over how they messed up to the point that they can no longer make any moral choices.
And that was the thing I was worried about in this arc, I was worried that the one guy on the writing staff who SUPER stans Seto Kaiba would make Seto into some sort of Bojack Horseman, who becomes so obsessed with his guilt that he kind of becomes a victim of what society did to him rather than a guy who ever made a choice. And Bojack’s not a bad show or anything, I did watch all of it, and it’s supposed to be more about society than the characters. But, as his problems from his youth compounded, he loses all of his agency as a character. If you are forced to be an ass then...well you can’t be one, by nature of what it means to be an ass.
Does that make sense? I see that more and more in shows these days, just a constantly apology fest whenever writers do a villain background episode.
But yes, Seto was trained to be a shark, but he was already a shark from day 1. He was always like this from the moment he was put in that orphanage. No apologies on behalf of the writing staff are needed and I’m glad they didn’t make any. It was somewhat refreshing that Seto never once apologized during this entire episode. He is awful, and he is completely fine with that.

And like, Bro hates it when you do this type of parallel comparisons between characters, but I freakin love it because he might be an English major but he majored in technical writing, and I was minoring in film for a hot minute so I love analyzing stuff and he can just deal. So lets dive in. We just came off of a whole arc talking about Marik’s tragic backstory and it’s really interesting that Seto’s tragic backstory mirrors Marik’s a great deal (especially since Kaiba was the one who was supposed to inherit the magic rod) but the two of them have a very different response to it.
Marik’s background gave him absolutely no agency. Even when he did lash out against his father--that was the rod rather than Marik himself. He lost his nut because he got tortured by his Father and lived a very shelted life underground, there was no choice there. He even has a brother that he threw into the coals (well, stroke of lightning) for his own ambitions.
Seto, on the other hand, was also tortured by his Father, but lived a shelted life so far above everyone else, that he never really left that lifestyle. But, unlike Marik, when he got the chance to make a choice, instead of getting out of the Kaiba house to save his Brother, he decided to freakin destroy it, even if it involved torturing Mokuba (momentarily) in the process.
Both are destroying their Father’s legacy while also trying to rule the world at the same time, two different villains, two different ways, one isn’t necessarily better written than the other, but it does feel like Seto has a lot more control of his own life than Marik, who is currently bumming around in Tea’s brain.
But I dunno, maybe Seto will have a big moment where he will feel an ounce of guilt and we’ll find out that everything he did was secretly a good thing or The Only Way something. I might eat my words later and be somewhat disappointed. We’ll see.

right so i’ve been reading some posts and mainly it’s all ‘rian johnson u asshole’ and ‘star wars is ruined forever’ BUT i dont think it is?? not completely anyway?
i thought the movie was. good? i mean. coming out of the theater i thought to myself i like this, it’s fine. and it is fine, but not. not it, you know? it had its ups and downs and honestly im surprised it’s getting so much hate, because i actually kind of. liked it? but there was some bullshit, yall

right, so. i believe that luke is a nuanced character with flaws. and i believe that there have been times when he struggled with his own grasp of light and dark, this being one of these times. but?? trying to murder his nephew??? 
during the movie i thought that maybe luke looking into ben’s darkness made him fall into his own a little bit? because i just don’t see luke that way. luke always believed in the good in people. he saw the good in vader - v a d e r - who was so far gone he didn’t even believe it himself anymore. and you’re telling me he truly didn’t believe kylo could be saved? or even helped? that he deserved to die, even if he believed this just for a moment?
other than that. i found luke had his good moments in the film as well. using the force to trick kylo, so that the rebellion had time to escape. or the beautiful moment where luke was looking at the sunset, the end of his journey in parallel to the sunset in anh, the beginning of his journey. pure poetry. a+
sitting with yoda and watching the tree burn? turning into a force ghost? threatening to haunt kylo forever?
leia and luke sitting down together? luke kissing leia on the forehead? good shit
but. the scene with luke squeezing milk out of that creatures tits and drinking it savagely. i... that could’ve been avoided. i mean. it did make rey see that she didn’t necessarily find what she had been looking for, but? honestly this movie disrespected my son, luke skywalker, so bad but also. the scene where he wiped nonexistent dust off his shoulder? such a badass move

LUKE FAILED KYLO OK. he truly did. luke was afraid of ben and he could never truly offer him the support that he needed because /fear/ *cue to yoda cackling like a maniac (what the fuck was that all about, also)* drove him to madness, i guess?
but then again kylo also burned everything down right after he collapsed a whole building on his uncle and went on a 10 year long murderous rampage, so? how am i supposed to defend u kylo get it together already
BUT THENNNN, like. this snoke character manipulated him all along? that doesn’t excuse kylo’s actions but ya know. hm. idk. all snoke did was abuse kylo and then he was like “ah my shining beautiful strong apprentice i have always believed in you”. what the fuck. at least be a little intimidating. 
honestly kylo should’ve just clocked him in the face with his dumb fucking mask instead of ruining the elevator, what a missed opportunity and waste of resources

honestly. i mean. im not here for or against this ship. because i see both sides of it (like, kylo is a murderous asshole that abused rey and murdered millions, but also - redemption arc? i love a redemption arc bitcc fuck me up)
personally i’m less interested in their ~love bond than i am in their force bond because it’s so fucking epic, my dudes. e p i c 
we always had anakin or luke as these two all-powerful people that carried the entire balance of the force by themselves but now we have two people, so completely different and y e t they r two halves of one whole and i love that so much
they’re both incredibly strong. i like that there is both light and dark in both of them. they complete each other. i don’t see their ~relationship happening tbh like we won’t get an anidala level of romance, i just think this force bound destiny thing is an interesting idea

mmmm. i keep seeing people complain she isn’t a skywalker. i was 100% sure she was but now i’m kinda glad she isn’t? the force sure loves her tragic desert children
she came from nothing but now she’s the very last jedi, the last hope for the galaxy, and i LOVE THAT. 
the rebellion
ok. ok. i am devastated
the rebellion truly did lose so much in this movie. sooo much. i’m crying. what for? was that necessary? 
and poe? my son. i love him. general hugs? i cried laughing. my son
but whaaat the fuck was the deal with admiral purple hair? ever heard of communicating like a normal person? like, telling poe what she was planning would’ve saved them sooo much bullshit? but telling poe would’ve cut the movie in half sooo
so many lives were lost because?? felt like really no reason at all, just miscommunication and people - the good guys - fighting each other?? it was sooo unsettling
like. so much of this movie i felt like the characters started out doing one thing and in the middle of the writing process the writers were like mmm no wait let’s go in a completely different direction which has 0 to do with anything at all yes brilliant
but then poe’s speech at the end? the last of the rebellion all together in the falcon? there is hope there is always h o p e

You can be as nosy as you want lmao, I love doing these!! It’ll probably be super long tho so apologies for that. To make this a little easier, I’ll exclude my parame from this (also for personal reasons) and only talk about my two main paras: Zazie & Tatsu.
ENJOY MY RAMBLING 💀
2. Do your daydreams get violent? How do you feel about them? How do you respond to them?
Violence is like, one of the most common themes in my daydreams. It ranges from the occasional fight or accident to actual murder and abuse. Mostly abuse tho. This sounds bad, but after so many years of constantly having such violent daydreams, I’ve become kinda numb to it. In a fucked up way, it gives me comfort. Because in some fucked up way, I chose this. Being hella masochistic and broken and dependent on Zazie, my parame doesn’t actually realize what’s happening to her is bad and absolutely not normal. She just goes with it. She doesn’t know better. She enjoys it, to a certain degree. I’m not sure what a “””normal””” person would think of this, I just don’t know how weird it seems to others, but to me, it doesn’t actually seem abnormal to have such thoughts. It’s just how it is, I just happen to have a violent mind.
7. How do you feel about your characters/paras? Have you ever fallen in love with them?
I wish there was another word for it. Saying “I love them” feels like such an understatement. Zazie & Tatsu mean everything to me. And I know how bad this sounds, considering I actually have a boyfriend of almost 3 years (which seems to be a rarity for people with MaDD). Now, don’t get me wrong - I do love my boyfriend. I live with him and he helps me so much with everything and he’s just a great person overall. It’s just that I feel a lot different about my paras. It’s not a matter of “being in love” with them or something, it’s that they’ve been with me through everything that has happened. It’s on another level, something that goes far beyond what happens between people. People can’t see what’s going on inside my head, I can choose what part of my mind I’m showing them, they’re their own people, they can disappear at any moment. They’re temporary. My paras, are not. Throughout all my life, they’ll be with me, no matter what happens. They cannot leave me because they literally live inside my head. So yes, I do love them, but not like someone who loves another person.
17. Do your paras have tragic backstories? Will you share a few?
Achievement unlocked: The Tragic Backstory ™No but seriously, not one of my paras has had a normal or easy life. It’s always tragic and complicated, some more, some less. It also slightly changes depending on the story I’m doing. Since listing them all would just be too much, lemme tell you a little about Zazie, my favorite dickhead. His parents didn’t want him. In their eyes, he was just a nuisance to them. So they abused him. From the moment he was born, they neglected him, hit him, yelled at him and not once gave him the love and attention he needed. He was still quite young when he was taken away from them and taken in by a new family. He never understood why this super rich couple adopted him, but as long he did as he was told, they gave him everything he wanted. When he got into his teenage years, he learned that they’d do literally anything to keep him from misbehaving. So whenever they wanted him to be quiet or polite or whatever, he’d manipulate them into giving in to him. He grew up into a horrible human, always manipulating people, getting into fights and generally just being pretty rude. He started taking drugs, smoking, drinking and sleeping around a lot. The only reason he hasn’t gone completely insane is Tatsu, his best friend. Tatsu has his own problems as well, but is far more stable compared to Zazie. He doesn’t want to admit it, but losing his best friend is like his greatest fear - so sometimes he does some questionable things to make sure Tatsu doesn’t leave. Zazie is incredibly smart, he knows exactly what he’s doing and what consequences his actions have. He just chooses to ignore them because, well, he doesn’t care much about other people or the world. He’s a sadistic, narcissistic asshole and I love him, alright.
21. Have your characters commit crime? Have they been to jail? Are they legally innocent? Are they socially innocent?
I mean……. if you consider theft, murder, drug dealing and assassination a crime…… then yes lmao. They’ve done some pretty fucked up shit, and have definitely been questioned and followed by police and others, but they never actually have been to jail. I’m just not very interested in that. They would absolutely not be legally or socially innocent. You just don’t have enough proof to lock them away. 🙃
22. Do your paras often find themselves in dangerous situations? How/why? Do they go looking for trouble? Does trouble look for them?
Yes. All the time. Mainly Zazie. He gets in a lot of trouble, constantly, be it his own fault or because of someone else. He loves danger. It makes him feel alive. That’s why he’s always living life on the edge, it gives him a rush and he’s addicted to it. He loves driving too fast, taking drugs that give him that feeling, stealing things, getting into fights - whatever makes him feel good. Tatsu doesn’t necessarily go out looking for trouble, but always ends up in it because of his best friend. He doesn’t mind tho, he gets the same exciting rush from it. They especially love racing, and often fight over which one they’re gonna take - supercar or motorbike. They absolutely love racing through the city and on the highway, the more dangerous, the better. Bonus points if they have to escape from police. Being such a damn good driver, Zazie wins most of the time. 🚨
25. Has a para ever made you physically cry?
Heck yeah. Wait that shouldn’t be something good… ANYway, I’m hella emotional and even just start tearing up when I don’t get my favorite ice cream or something ridiculous like that. Now imagine me killing off a para or Zazie abusing someone again or taking too many drugs and completely losing it. Daydreaming is really intense for me, so I often just start crying (or laughing), I make weird faces and all that shit. Crying doesn’t necessarily mean I’m sad, it simply means I’m feeling too much of an emotion in that moment. I don’t really show negative emotions irl (except for frustration), I have trouble showing happiness, so I try to keep things in check and preferably far away from me. When I daydream, I can let go of that, and then I just happen to cry a lot. 🌊
40. Do you do research for your daydreams? How much? How often? How deep?
I do a lot of research, actually! It really depends on the story, but I mostly look up cities and street systems, buildings and interior. I pick what I like and what fits, and so create my own cities and maps. It goes pretty in depth, to a point where I know exactly where things stand and what objects are in the rooms, even if it’s a piece of glass that’s behind a closet somewhere. When my story involves anything that I don’t have knowledge of, I research it as well. That can be super/hypercars, certain industries like music or YouTube, how the mafia works, foods from around the world, disorders and illnesses - I’ll just research whatever I need for my story or world.

I know the only person this is going to matter to/apply to is me because nobody else hates Bakugo as much as I do and everyone hates Mineta, but I just want to clarify that how much I hate Bakugo and Mineta are on very different levels.
That is to say, they arent comparable.  Not because I hate Bakugo significantly less than Mineta, but because of the difference between intentional and unintentional hatred.
Bakugo is a character that you’re...not supposed to hate as much as I do, necessarily?  But you’re not supposed to love him unconditionally.  He’s not some precious uwu baby, he’s a big bully and a dick to the main protagonist.  He’s supposed to be an interesting antagonist.  Not a villain yet, but still an antagonist.  You’re not supposed to sympathize with him like you’d sympathize with Izuku, or Uraraka, or even Iida.  I probably hate him more than I’m supposed to, but you’re not supposed to see him as the good guy, you’re supposed to see him as a dick, so it kind of works out.  Alternately, it makes it HELLA cathartic when the narrative decides to give him his just deserts, so again, it kinda works out.  (Unfortunately Bakugo is also a bit of a prodigy so those cathartic moments are few and far between, but even knowing that almost everyone else hates him is super satisfying)
Mineta is a comic relief.  That’s, like, confirmed from the creator - he’s just supposed to be a comic relief.  There are very few other characters that are solely/primarily there for comic relief but I guess the main characters he’s up against are Hagakure and Aoyama.  And you know what?  Hagakure and Aoyama make me laugh.  I take one look at them and they make me laugh.  Not everything they say makes me laugh (Aoyama in particular doesnt make me laugh all the time) but they never make me angry at the characters themselves.  (Especially Hagakure, Hagakure is amazing and I’d die for her)  In fact I like both characters, and I’m not a very comedy-driven person (just take my word for it, I know my tumblr presence doesnt reflect that but shh).  But Mineta?  His design doesn’t really bother me, but god, even his voice is annoying.  He’s only ever said one thing that I can think of that I didnt lowkey or highkey want to punch him for (I dont remember what it was, but it had to do with Izuku pushing himself too far) Even if he’s just, like, scared, everything about how he’s written and voiced makes me want to smack him into another anime.  Like it’s not even his sexual perversions that annoy me, although to be fair if he was just a big baby he’d be a lot more tolerable.
I’ve analyzed both Bakugo and Mineta and how they relate to other characters in their respective tropes.
For all intents and purposes, Bakugo is an extremely well-written character - thus far anyways/from what I can tell with the information we’ve been given in the anime, and currently without any character development.  It’s possible this is more of a western thing but whenever I think of classroom bullies, I think of dumb assholes who even my overly nice ass could probably beat in a roasting competition because they aren’t even remotely intelligent - or if you want to get really deep, the same character except with some tragic backstory that causes them to bully like their mom died and their father is hard on them.  And then they get redeemed and suddenly they do well in school again.  But Bakugo absolutely subverts this as being intelligent, calculating, and not even a braggart about his intelligence - whenever someone points it out, he just kind of brushes it off.  He’s much more concerned with how physically powerful he is.  Which is interesting, because he’s always been praised for his quirk and physical powers.  And I think that’s what he prioritizes over all else, and why he acts like the fucking dick he is.  Because he’s always been the best, because of his quirk, because of his physical prowess with said quirk, and he needs to prove it to everyone or else he isn’t valid.  (Bakugo you’re already not valid you problematic shit but i digress)
But Mineta?  Ehh.  Not to sound like a Mineta apologist but he isn’t the absolute worst that the “sexually perverted child” trope has to offer.  Having said that, even by the low, low standards of the very existence of the trope, he isn’t exactly a great one either.  I mean you can make any trope work if you try hard enough and bend enough of the rules, but Mineta doesn’t do that.  He doesn’t do anything particularly horrible for the trope, but he’s just uncomfortable because the trope itself is horrible.
And Bakugo here is interchangeable with almost any character in BNHA.  Most of the major characters have something setting them apart from a trope, albeit some less than others, and even more minor characters like Kirishima feel well-rounded and interesting and like they’re avoiding or even downright subverting tropes (I lov Kirishima because he seems like someone who should be angry all the time like Bakugo but in reality he’s a giant sweetheart and I LOVE HIM).  The other pure comedy reliefs aren’t quite as well rounded as, like, Iida, obviously.  But even then, Aoyama’s quirk is really unique and Hagakure does have a relatable personality despite usually being reduced to a joke.  Nothing sets Mineta apart from his trope besides also being another trope - a big crybaby, which actually isnt that uncommon in the sexually perverted child trope either.
