What is your brain’s canon timeline for the mauraders era?

So, I'm going to be vague for now but if I feel ambitious maybe I'll make an in-depth one. This is my VERY not canon-compliant, in-a-happy-world timeline. I am also partially high on the fumes from wood stain, so take this with a grain of salt. I can also do a canon-compliant one if you like.

First year: End of the year, Sirius, James, and Peter find out about Remus being a werewolf

Second and Third year: Regulus and Sirius have a falling out because family trauma.

Thirdish year: idea for the Marauder's Map is formed, they spend a year or so perfecting it but are constantly adding to it

Third year as well: Remus realizes he's in love with Sirius. He's more emotionally aware but also hates himself so he pines silently.

Fourthish year: Dorcas and Marlene make the quidditch team, become rivals. Dorcas is Out and Proud. Marlene is not. She probably hooks up with Sirius at some point but they're better off as friends.

Third-fifth year: James wants Lily. He is an idiot. Lily does not want him back.

Beginning of fifth year: Sirius, James, and Peter succeed at being animagi. Remus has to resist kissing Sirius because he was the one who came up with the idea. Poor Remus.

End of fifth year: The Prank. The Dark Ages.

Summer between fifth and sixth year, Sirius runs away, Remus forgives Sirius because....Sirius is hurt and he just loves him, okay?

Sixth year: the year of pining for Wolfstar. Sirius has realized what it's like to lose Remus and Doesn't Want That Again, realizes his feelings but won't share them because he is terrified.

Also sixth year: James cools down about Lily. Lily is a raging lesbian. She hooks up with some randoms, but it doesn't really work out.

Also Also sixth year: Marlene is like, oh shit, lesbians. Women. Girls. Is like ooooo all those issues with Dorcas are sexual tension. This is not solved quickly because both of them are stubborn.

End of sixth year: Wolfstar gets their shit together. As do Dorlene. Perhaps with dramatic confessions.

Summer between sixth and seventh year: Regulus runs away to James's house because he is Very Gay and probably fucked Barty at some point, but just because Barty is arguably attractive and they both were bored. Barty still insists that he's not gay. Oh, Barty.

Seventh year: James has a Gay Crisis and falls for Reggie because Reggie is beautiful to him but everyone else thinks he's an asshole. Eventually Reggie returns said feelings because he's apparently attracted to idiots.

Also seventh year: Because Dorcas and Marlene, and Reggie and James are together, Lily meets Pandora. Yay, Pandalily!

Only after Reggie gets his shit together do Rosekiller realize, hey, we are Also Gay- For Each Other. Better late than never.

This isn't the timeline that any of my fics follow exactly, but this is my ideal timeline lol. Hope that helps!

okay heres a list of reasons why regulily makes sense bc i love them so much but every time i talk abt them on any platform other than tumblr ppl are like “ew, regulily is gross” like yall just dont get them the way i do 😤

we know that regulus wasnt like the rest of his family. most purebloods think of house elves as vermin, below even the lowest of wizards, but regulus was kind to them, kinder than he was to most other wizards. he was good at masking to put on that pureblood facade, though, but lily, well, she could see right through it. she was, afterall, “an uncommonly kind person with a habit of seeing the best in others, even when they could not see it themselves”

do yall seriously think that lily evans would have been put off by regulus’ standoffish slytherin demeanor? the woman was best friends with the most standoffish slytherin to ever slytherin. she was one of the few gryffindors who actively befriended slytherins and she likely would have defended regulus against sirius if he ever spoke badly about him in her vicinity, even if they werent friends. thats just the kind of person she is (and we love her all the better for it)

regulus and lily both had complicated relationships with their siblings. both of them were the younger sibling, and both of them were also the sibling preferred by their parents. regulus would understand the grief lily felt over the loss of her close relationship with petunia and lily would understand the betrayed bitterness regulus felt over sirius being happier without him in a way that no one else could. theyd see each other more deeply than anyone else

now ive seen some people (mostly og marauders fans that dislike regulus) say that it makes no sense bc they were on opposite sides of the war at first, but regulus is one of the few death eaters we know of that canonically defected. he literally sacrificed himself trying to stop voldemort, knowing that he would die but accepting it on the off chance that his efforts would eventually help end the war. to act like he was evil is just stupid

and lastly, ive seen some version of “regulily makes no sense! regulus and lily are both gay!” repeated ad nauseam and, well, my question to you is… why cant they be gay together? why limit yourself to the canon cishet normativity when you can have them be bi4bi, or t4t, or nonbinary lesbians, or any other queer relationship you can imagine? like, my personal fav regulily dynamic is lesbian lily and trans girl reg. the options are literally endless. go wild! live out your gay dreams to your hearts content! no one is stopping you!

And that's because Sirius has known about them for longer than any of them realize. They're childhood friends and Sirius has watched his brother and best friend fall in love, he's seen the way that they're perfect for each other.

You Please Yourself by Pleasing Me Jegulus oneshot, M, wc: 1,424 Reggie loves hickies. He loves the look of them, not necessarily the act that accompanies them. Luckily, James has an oral fixation and is all the more willing to give him a necklace of hickies.

The Restricted Section JonMartin oneshot, T, wc: 2,020 Sasha and Tim are having a hard time getting a book they need for a follow up on a statement, because it's in a restricted section that they just can't access. Jon, however, happens to be able to help them--because of course the nerd would have access to a restricted section in an academic library. But that's not the only thing the two assistants learn about their boss because who is this Martin guy helping them?

You're Severely Mistaken JonMartin oneshot, T, wc: 1,788 Tim and Sasha are nervous about dressing up for pride month because Jon, to them, seems like the old homophobic boss that grumbles about 'kids and their sexualities and blue hair.' Turns out, they were wrong.

Love is an Art (And You're a Professional) Jegulus oneshot, T, wc: 7,628 James is a potter and Regulus is a painter. They share a studio and each other's hearts but neither of them know of their association with Sirius (just as he doesn't know about them). Just cute, fluffy moments between Regulus and James in their lives and prepping for an art gallery, and learning about their intertwined lives.

Fluorine Uranium Carbon Potassium (Barium Boron Yttrium) Jegulus oneshot, M, wc: 2,458 James is taking chemistry though they constantly complain about it. i do not give a fuck about dorlene. i cant see it. it very often seems like forced lesbian representation to me. like, oh, lets throw them in here so that people dont say maybe i should have some sapphic women in my art if im trying to write about the queer experience. i read only one fic in my entire life that made them interesting and fleshed out characters. usually they are incredibly boring and i dont like it

marauderstok makes me a gatekeeper. i hate gatekeeping but then i see someone on tiktok talking about bartylily or sunkiller or moonrose or peter x barty and i just cant deal with that. they dont get them!!!! i dont even like most of these ships that much but i have moots that do and im overly protective of their blorbos. those people on tiktok dont understand bartylily!!! they are just into it cause it seems weird and unusual!! they dont see the vision of the pure hatred between barty and james that turns into sexual tension! they dont understand why barty would fall in love with peter and they try to make all of these ships into sketches!!! they are not!! those are my children youre talking about!!!

sorry for all that about sev. i am just very passionate about the way he's treated in this fandom. on the topic of characters being treated poorly by the fandom - dumbledore. some people truly believe that it's all his fault which is just so weird to me. he's obviously a deeply flawed man who made a lot of mistakes and i don't necesserily like him but i think we can all acknowledge that he's not the one who killed lily and james? like. he should've fought harder for sirius, obviously, but he didn't murder dorcas. he's not the ultimate villain that people make him out to be

honestly. im very grey in this area. i like making fun of his hair unfortunately, but in other contexts i also think sevs greasy hair has a swaggy seductive lesbian flair. depends on how he’s being characterized. i saw a post today that was like ’cant help but laugh at people being angry about people objectifying fictional characters when they’re fundamentally dependant on being objects’ which i fully agree with. it’s part of litterature and film making that the (im gonna talk in film terms bc im a film student) that the mise-en-scene is an active choice, meaning that the way characters are dressed and presented is meant to, on purpose, reveal things about said characters. and often its driven by stereotypes that the audience has. severus is meant to look like a loser because he’s portrayed like a loser / and as someone who will be the victim of bullying. its simply the way his characters is canonically written and portrayed, and writers and viewers pick up on that. also im unfortunately one of the people who think bullying fictional characters is funny. it’s fictional and fandom, and never once have i stumbled upon a person who can’t balance the made-up fandom rules regarding fictional characters and their actuail real life morals. not saying these people don’t exist, but i certainly don’t kiki with them. fandom just doesnt affect real life issues in way some people sometimes seem to think. im personally a severus Lover and his biggest hater depending on the setting/hc’s/etc

i love albus, but i love him because i genuinely think he’s despicable. im not interested in his supposed reedming qualities and i personally dont think he has any….. he allowed teenagers to fight his wars and canonically didnt deny that he doesnt care for harry / and that he raised him like a pig for slaughter. its what makes him interesting. his childhood and early adult years make him one of the most fascinating characters in the fandom.. like i have so many feelings about him. he breaks my heart, he’s awful, he believes he’s good because he has good intentions, he yearns after grindelwald all his life and it was a 2 month summer romance, he killed his sister, his brother barely speaks to him. he’s a tragedy, but still despicable…… but i respect your opinion so much king thank you for sharing

🔥 Topic: Marauder Era characters :D

Ooooo ok so I'm not sure how many of these are actually unpopular because other's opinions about fake people don't usually stick with me but yk

1. I don't mind the babygirlification of characters like Sirius or even Regulus as much as some others seem to. They were teenagers and young adults in the Marauder's Era who hadn't yet experienced the trauma of war. Let them be silly.

2. I don't mind the nickname "Slytherin Skittles" too much. I just don't like skittles.

3. Changing the teenage versions of Slytherin characters that are Death Eaters later in life doesn't bother me. Again, they're young, let them be silly. And let them develop differently. The only character traits these people really had before fanon was a name and the general understanding of "this guy bad" to identify them. Let people imagine differently. It would be different if they were real people, but they very much are not, so let's just chill.

4. I don't know how much of a thing this is on Tumblr, but I hated when Remus was being headcanoned as mean. He might be sassy but like, mean?? Moony?? The mildly cowardly werewolf?? To each their own, but I just don't see it.

5. That being said, I like when James is just a bit of a smartass rather than a bully. Canon doesn't exist to me ok, if there's anyone I'd rather hate, it's Snape. (A thousand apologies, I just have never vibed with him. Love his character though, he's a great part of the story.)

6. I fully understand why people complain about there not being enough appreciation for the women of the Marauder's Era, but the main characters of the story in every era are men, and we just know more about them in general, so it does make sense that it's the way things have turned out, even if I do adore the lesbian ships and the women in general. The fandom is honestly doing them pretty well all things considered. I might just be in a safe corner though, so I wouldn't put too much weight on those words.

I didn't read a ton in March -- between my birthday, attending SXSW Film (16 movies in one week!), and then getting over the cold I caught at SXSW -- and what I did read was mostly… Harry Potter fic? Yeah, I was surprised too. I've bookmarked only one fic in the last few years since JKR went off the transphobia cliff, so it was a bit strange, but I was pleased to see fandom is persisting in being aggressively queer and/or 'fuck canon' about it.

My journey through fan fiction that spans 18 years and a sexuality crisis

I was a weird kid, I had gone to catholic school at the beginning of my elementary years and then moved to public school when my mom got a job as an elementary teacher. I didn’t know how to dress because I had worn a uniform before then and I didn’t know how to act in a not strict environment.

I found solace in books, we had a program at my school where you would read a book and then take a test on it and earn points for passing the test. The bigger the book, the more points you got. Naturally as this was 2004 Harry Potter was very popular, and they were the books that got you the most points as they were larger. I read the first one and was hooked, this world was amazing, I was at my bookstore the night the half blood prince and deathly hollows came out. I devoured the books, and then I devoured them again, and again.

Eventually in the summer between 5th and 6th grade (so 2006) I discovered fan fiction. I was HOOKED, now not only did I get to have basically unlimited access to my favorite characters, I got to read about them in different ways than JK put them. Fan fiction was…unhinged back then to say the least. I was more into the golden trio and I wasn’t really into romance stories as I was 12 but I can distinctly remember wolfstar (that’s not what they were called back then it was like SS something or other) being in the background of A LOT of stories I read and liking it but also not caring cause I just wanted the adventure as a 12 year old does.

I fell into this rabbit hole and would be reading fan fiction at an alarming rate for a person my age, but I was weird and being bullied and was DEFINITELY struggling with my sexuality so it was my way to escape. I stayed firmly in fan fics until I went to high school, at the end I was definitely reading “slash” fics and they were definitely not straight but I was riding the denial train hard.

When I went to high school it was 2009 and “hipster” was cool, my weirdness combined with becoming “hot” granted me way less bullying. I started to get friends so I dropped the “weird” Harry Potter obsession and let myself slowly combust with a sexuality crisis that spanned a good 12 years. I would dabble in fan fiction many times from the ages of 15-26 but I really got into a couple weeks after my 27th birthday.

I was, well, I was actively dying. I was so mentally ill I wasn’t really functioning. I was in a horrible marriage (to a man, if you haven’t caught my subtle hints I’m a lesbian) I had nothing of my own, no autonomy and I just didn’t want to be here anymore.

I fell into reading all the young dudes (I know, I know) because of a TikTok I had seen with someone saying they loved reading Marauders fics because it’s easy to take a step back from JK when reading them. To say I was hooked is an understatement.

When I started reading it I didn’t know about tags or even how to work AO3 so I didn’t realize it was a wolfstar fic, when they kissed on the mouth I was like 😱. Sometimes I wish I could relive that moment again because I was an idiot. I was hooked though and thus began an insane journey into discovering that queer love can actually be amazing, that I can leave my husband and survive, and taking your mental health meds is a super good idea.

I have been through a journey and am about to turn 29 on Saturday, so almost 2 years later I need to just thank everyone in the community for your words that saved me. I am now obsessed with wolfstar, I don’t know what I would do with out you guys. I’m trying to be more active in the fandom but I thought I would get my story into the world even if no one sees it! 💕

hot take i'm not actually super invested in jily. i love them as a couple and once they're together it's just like beautiful spectacular rainbows and sunshine (until they're brutally murdered in front of their precious bb boy ofc) but the progression of their feelings don't make any sense to me. like i personally don't believe in love at first sight so james being deadset in love with lily since 11 and then her calling him a toerag and showing complete indifference doesn't deter him, a teenage boy who definitely has his own insecurities, but then "nah, she didn't" hate him? i just feel like lily put so much effort into hating james but not as much effort into loving him especially not as much as he loved her but also nobody can really love like james. but i also haven't read atyd so don't come for me pls i feel like i'm just too cynical for love at first sight tropes

okay but lily as a character i find super cool her whole friendship with snape was so interesting and i wish we talked about that more like imagine her confidence and sense of self during and after her friendship with snape? that one interaction by the great lake ("snape's worst memory") is such a PIVOTAL point in her development and there's only one person who i think does this justice and it's @embrassemoi in surrounded by the moon and stars. i wasn't particularly interested in lily but ok after reading this [discontinued] series i am such a fervent believer in queer!lily. lily spends years wondering why she doesn't like james, why she can't like james, because by every measure of common sense she should like him! he's charismatic, rich, gryffindor quidditch captain, attractive, pureblooded, and interested in her. why doesn't she like him back?? ugh. she's frustrated. cue self-hatred and projection. omg she's a lesbian. that's why. lily the lesbian. there's alliteration. it was meant to be.
