#in stars and time#isat#siffrin#josh art tag#been wanting to practice less “literal” drawings....#like people doing a certain thing or being in a certain place or even just standing there#and instead do more like conceptual stuff?? idk how to word it#but i love doing stuff like this#and i feel like i havent done it in a while#i think last time i did was early in the year when i was still really into the Magnus Protocol#and was illustrating lines from each episode#some of which are my best performing art ever lol#i still remember my sibling telling me they had come across my art on their dash and later on their insta explore page#they had apologized since me and my sibs have an agreement to not search for or interact with each other online just for privacys sake#but i found it both funny and kinda insane#was not expecting my art to get big enough to find its way to that sib lol#uuuhhhhh anyway back on topic#ive had this idea of a siffrin illustration where either have their face or the back part of their head being a clock#and i tried a couple drafts in my sketchbook#and ended up liking this one! it had the addition of the shooting star and from then i toyed with the idea of adding the title text#i have another less literal piece for zelda that i wanna do#but i also wanna work on my isat animatic#....and i also wanna play stardew....#i need more hours in the day 😔

#ace attorney tag#maybe i should tag this narumitsu or something. but i dont really care.#gearing up to rereading/illustrating bits of my fic i suppose...i think nick really is too dense to realise he's in love with edgeworth#without some scheming fop trying to intrude. i love villains like kristoph..villains can be fun..witnessing their pathetic folly..#or more like edgeworth would never have mentioned his feelings ever in his life if he wasn't sure phoenix reciprocates.#i want to see it this way because Falling in love during childhood with the person you're going to end up with. is not relatable#there have to be Situations that make you Realise.#as with orufrey i adore the idea of people not working out their romance with that person until their 30s+#but... i mean. even with orufrey i often think how alaira could be qifrey's ex. and oru having been pursued by noble fops through his work#there is that delicate sliver of time before orufrey start living together that such believable situations could have happened.#Then the relief of politely and amicably extricating themselves from those untenable situations#the idea of falling in love age 7 and saving your first kiss for age 35 or something is all very well but more relatable is#people realising how they really feel whilst trying something that ends up feeling wrong.#The comfort and joy of living with your dearest one as if it's platonic - much preferable to trying anything more with anyone else.#But i doubt i will ever portray that or mention it further. it is indeed very delicate to me.#and i really am an OTP FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kind of person who can barely bear to consider this anyway...NOT a polyshipper i'm afraid !#so i wouldn't mind either if they do have their first kiss in their lives age 35 with each other either. How do you get watercolor to look the way it does in your art?
Well, you see, I do it by simply... not using watercolor to begin with!
I use Copic markers - but I'm bad and I don't always use them on proper marker paper.
Alcohol markers have a tendency to bleed through paper real bad, and some paper textures won't allow for optimal blending of the colors. But I think that experimenting with the papers I have - and I have a lot of papers, I'm a chronic stationery buyer - leads to a lot of really interesting results, some of which look a lot like watercolor!
Of the samples of how different paper make the marker look, I like the way the MUSE memo book croquis paper takes the Copic the best. Sure it necessitates putting a paper or using a shitajiki board underneath it to protect the next page, but I think that soft, saturated look is worth it.
I did take a watercolor course while I was in college and I enjoyed it a lot, but I've still got a lot of work to do to be like... as confident with watercolor as I am with markers.

Woah dang, waking up to 99+ notifs on tumblr almost always means that an old Homestuck piece is going around again... imagine my delighted surprise to see it was all notifs about Soli! That was a great thing to wake up to. Felt an actual flutter in my chest. Thank you so much, everyone! And apologies for how Elias' hair keeps subtly changing. You always kind of figure out exactly how a character looks and how to draw them as you go along with sequential art. It, funny enough, largely comes from figuring out their acting (so lots and lots of different angles and features that need to shift/change slightly to carry the weight of looking like they should feel, for lack of a better way to describe it ) At any rate, glad to see people are excited for chapter 3! next update will be next week, and will be a two page spread.

i havent even read enough gl to justify the feelings and emotions i have about kyle i just have the lovers heart and also something wrong with me. and my projection. in my mind he's just like me. and he would have loved college vending machine frozen cheeseburger and heating it up in the microwave at 1 in the morning because he was bored and didn't want to work on a drawing assignment on 20" x 30" paper that was due tomorrow in his freshman year. he would have loved going to the club to push off finals work that's creating the worst stress known to man in his brain. and he would love to annoy the fuck out of his roommate when high and avoiding homework on a saturday.
#IN MY MIND HE'S JUST LIKE ME and i understand why he dropped out of art school also.#i need to get back to my readings but im too into thinking about the couple dozen issues i have read#and then going i wonder what he was like in college. and the answer is definitely fucking annoying.#if i knew him i know we would be not arguing in art history class. i would be saying his takes are stupid outside of class during break.#and he would go i dont know how somoene can defend british utilitarian furniture so vehemently and try to liken it to bauhaus design#our arguments would also stem from having very different art history and therefore philosophy education. his background would be from a pro#who would focus on european canon as per usual while my prof was coming from the perspective of someone with a phd in asian art history#and a curriculum based mostly around exploring and investigating non euro art work and how movements like modernism and#post modernism functioned in other continents.#this is such a main blog post but idont care. I actually did my physical therapy exercises tonight for the first time in a long time and I am Sore and probably gonna regret it tomorrow, but it was very much needed. I did a thing to take care of myself! The bar is low but I'm proud!!
#rambles#personal#fr tho like. i cannot describe how Bad my health/mobility has gotten in the last couple years alone#to illustrate: I have about the same strength and range of motion as my near-70 y/o mama#who is also severely disabled and on oxygen#and I'm in my 30s#i avoid exercise and activity a lot bc im so scared of the pain. I've dislocated and subluxed so many times#but avoiding it is actively and drastically worsening my health#and im getting to the age where it's time to stop fucking around and actually make changes#if i want to live longer AND have any kind of quality of life#so. PT to start#work back up to walking longer distances and cardio#and quit fucking smoking (which i have an appt to get some help with)#chronic pain
