Chapter 6: it's nice to have a friend...

Your mind replayed the convo you had last night with Chan. you couldnt think about anything else. Chan Chan Chan was what your mind kept thinking of. Absent mindly opened your fridge to pick up the cartoon box of milk. You stared at the fridge for a few seconds as you forgot why you opened it. Then you remembered. You picked out the cartoon box and shook it but it was empty. You sighed and decided to go to the nearby supermarket. You put on your jacket and left the house.

You walked down the road listening to music. You entered the supermarket and went directly to the dairy aisle. There was only one bottle of milk. You rushed to take it but someone took it before you.

“Fuck.” you said under your breath.

“y/n?” you heard someone call you. You turned around to see who it was. It was Chan.

“Chan, hey. Didnt expect to see you here.”

“We ran out of eggs so I came here to buy them.”

“Oh I see. I came here to buy milk but there is no milk. So I'm gonna just head back home. See you later, chan.”

“y/n, did you have your breakfast yet?”

“Not yet.”

“Umm.. do you wanna join us for breakfast. It's just me and the boys you know.”

“You want me to join you? What if they dont want me there?”

“They won't mind you joining us.”

“Fine, I'll join you.” you said.

You and Chan went to the dorm in his car. You knew jyp building was near your house but you didnt knwo it was this close. It was only 3 buildings away.

“Guys, look who we have here.” Chan said removing his jacket and hanging it in the jacket hanger.

Minho didnt look up from his phone.

“Did you bring home a stray cat? If not, I'm not interested in whatever you brought home.”

“Minho, be nice.” Chan said in a motherly voice.

“Hello everyone.” you said slightly laughing thinking about what Minho said.

“You are y/n, right?” Felix said and hugged you.

Then Changbin greeted you.

“Oh my god! is that a gojo on your hoodie? You watch jjk?” Han screamed.

“Yes, you watch it too?”

“Of course I do. I'd be a loser not to watch it. We are gonna be besties.”

“Guys be ready I'm serving breakfast in five minutes” Chan said.

You ate breakfast heartily. Chan had made pancakes and eggs. You all sit on the dining table which could fit 10 people in it. You sat in the middle of Chan and Hyunjin.

“The pancakes are so good, Chris.” You said.

“Thank you, milady.” Changbin and Seungmin coughed from their places hearing Chan call you milady. Others just exchanged looks. You just blushed slightly.

“Do you want coffee, y/nnie?” Felix asked you.

“Yes, please.” You said. He poured you a cup of coffee.

“So like are you guys dating or something?” Jeongin asked out of the blue.

“No.” You and Chan said at the same time.

“We are just friends.” You said. But deep down you wanted to be more.

“Ohh I see.” Jeongin said.

After you had your breakfast you helped Chan clean the kitchen even though he refused to take your help.

“So I'm leaving. See you guys later.” You said.

“Wait lemme walk you home.” He said.

“Okay.”

You both picked your jackets and stepped out of the dorm. You guys took the elevator and went out of the JYP building.

“Umm… so I had fun having you over today.” He said.

“It was really fun to be there too.”

You two made small conversation on the way to your house. You reached the house so soon since it was only 3 blocks away.

You stood in front of your apartment.

You hugged Chan goodbye.

“By any chance would you like to come up?” you asked.

“Me?”

“Who else?”

“Yeah sure.”

HALLOWEEN ENDS- 2022 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The final part of David Gordon Green's Halloween trilogy.....

As a die hard Halloween fan i had a lot of ideas going into this movie as to what would happen. I genuinely cant remember the last time i was this suprised by the direction a movie took.

I also cant remember the last time i watched a movie and couldnt decide exactly how i felt about it. There are bits i loved and bits i didnt agree with at all. Its rated 5 stars for enjoyment not 5 saying its a 5 star movie. As a die hard halloween fan its hard to see a new one on the big screen and not have a blast...

Ill start with the parts i liked or loved:

Giving us the Halloween 3: Season of the witch blue font was very cool. The start of this movie i really loved. The haddonfield radio station and the song playing set a fun tone.

The opening scene itself with Corey and the little boy i thought was really good. I was ofcourse expecting Michael to have been in the house, interesting misdirection. Enjoyed them watching "The Thing".

Loved watching Halloween Ends and not knowing what would happen next.

The film introduces a lot of new ideas, some of them are extremely ambitious and i appreciate that. I get there are some fans that wanted a more conventional Halloween film. But we have those already. This is now the 13th Halloween film. To me, part of what makes this franchise so much fun is that a lot of the movies are so different and go in crazy directions. Even some of the ones that i thought were whack after first watching (Rob Zombies Halloween) i have come to love in there own way and will enjoy an occasional rewatch of.

Alyson and Coreys relationship was pretty interesting. Love Alyson. Andy Matichak was great as her and would love her to reprise the role one day. Corey and Alyson having a sort of doomed love story where they teased running away together was really intriguing and not something weve seen before in Halloween.

There were plenty of good kills in this film (not many by Michael but we'll get to that).

The parts of the ending that i did like were:

Laurie faking suicide to trick Corey.

Corey actually killing himself to frame Laurie.

Liked Laurie and Hawkes flirting in supermarket at start of the movie.

Liked Laurie looking at the photo of her Lynda and Annie from 78.

Michaels body being destroyed in a meat grinder was the most definitive death he has had in any of these movies and i liked that.

The closing shots where it revisited the houses where the killings had happened (like in previous movies) except this time you dont hear Michael breathing, then dont fear the reaper plays.... i loved that whole sequence it was great.

This film really expands Haddonfield a lot....

It feels like a much bigger and more layered place now. In Halloween Ends its almost portrayed as being like Derry in Stephen King books. Like the place holds evil and turns people evil. Did they stick the landing with this idea? No i wouldnt say so but again i like they trying new things.

Now something i didnt like:

CoreyMania.

Corey is essentially the main character i believe he gets more screen time than anyone. I liked a lot of it but thought it would have been better if he had been part of the previous two movies. Im not a fan of when a trilogy waits til the last movie to set up something this big. Like waiting til the rise of skywalker to set up Palpatine wtf.

The moment where Corey looks in Michaels eyes and there seems to be some kind of transference.....

That came out of nowhere and didnt seem believable to me in line with the previous movies have established. Seemed wrong to me that Michael wouldnt have killed him. Them teaming up absolutely shocked me. I would never in a million years have guessed this.

The idea itself isnt that crazy. We nearly had Jamie Lloyd become the protege killer but they turned her into a deaf mute instead. Seeing Michael team up with someone was very interesting but while watching it i was just in shock. Think this will be less jarring in future viewings.

One of my biggest problems with the film and now the trilogy at whole is there handling of Michael Myers....

Theyre description of him is constantly changing back and forth and it gets ridiculous.

Halloween 2018 ignores the unkillable supernatural Myers of the previous now non canon sequels and firmly establishes him as a human man.

Halloween Kills establishes him as now more than human. By killing he transcends and gets stronger. The film ends with him appearing dead after taking considerably more damage than any person could. He then pops up and kills a huge mob of people.

Halloween Ends he is a man again. An old and weak old man living in the sewers. They also establish that killing heals him. Why wasnt he healed after killing the mob? Or after killing people in the film?

The constant changing of Myers strength and ability is bizarre and frustrating.

The scene where Corey takes Myers mask off his face was awful. You cant do that. It felt like a modern day Busta Rhymes moment. Now sure Myers got the last laugh but this was one of many moments that made Myers by far the least scary he has been in any of the Blumhouse trilogy. And theyre his fucking movies!

Myers doesnt show up for at least 40 mins in this movie and has little screen time. Again this would have worked better if part of a spin off and not the last part of his trilogy.

The handling of Myers relationship with Laurie is also puzzling.

Although some people say otherwise, these movies to me, seem to be saying Laurie isnt important to Michael. They started in the first one by changing it so they were no longer brother and sister. Im fine with that but think they then take it too far.

In 2018 Halloween, Michael doesnt seek out Laurie, he is killing aimlessly and is brought to her house by others.

In Halloween Kills he doesn't go looking for her.

In Halloween Ends, the final fight only happens because he goes there to get his mask back from Corey. The final fight which most of the movies marketing is based around just wasnt good enough. By the time it finally happened it felt obligatory and lacking importance because its unclear how much Michael even cares about Laurie anymore.

Some major problems with the presentation of Laurie also.

First of all she seems to have gone at least slightly mental which i understand due to what shes gone through. But a lot of the time i dont see this version of Laurie as being even remotely the same person as we first met in 1978.

Dont even see her as being the same person as in the previous two films? I think 2018 Laurie was the best version of her from the new trilogy.

The whole explanatation that she is now living her life free of fear. That she lives in a regular house not set up with traps is insane. The only reason she survived 2018 was because of how prepared she was. She knows that and knows Myers is still out there? After he killed Karen she would want revenge now more than ever and would have bought bigger and better traps. Shes literally an old woman at this point. So when she just straught up beats Myers in a fight at the end i was disappointed. At this point Myers is a shell of himself but still.

What the fucking hell was this all about?

I was shook!

Halloween Ends was a very surprising film. Despite having lots i disliked i havent been able to stop thinking about it and cant wait to watch it again. David Gordon Green must have for sure known this film would be divisive. But he made the film he wanted to make and i applaud that. And if you dont like it then its fine because before long, someone else will come along and make a different version of it.

Dimitri was speechless.

“Can you repeat that, please?” He said.

“You’re too close with Kit, we’re gonna send you to a vacation house. Dont worry about Roahn, you will see her when it’s the mounting” Layo said across the table. Kit and Danae were playing outside.

“Im…I…when?” He asked visibly stressed.

“Maybe on saturday. The vacation house is on the other side of the country, next to Sunnyhills Beach, I think you know whose property is it”

Dimitri knew.

His last master before them.

The one who had tried to kill him with the prongs collar.

“His son will be taking good care of you, so you better behave and do as he says understood? He wont accept escapes like us. You know his methods already anyways, you will know whats better for you” He said sipping on his coffee. “Ah, but you’re still ours. If he thinks he is entitled to damage you, He wont see the end of it”

“U-Understood…” Dimitri said still cleaning his plates. He had time. If he hurried up, maybe he could escape tomorrow. While they were on their cocktail party.

“I gotta believe I can do it” He told himself

Report came and Dimitri explained how he could the plan for the next day to Kit. How he would take him to that place.

“With Jen and Roahn?”

“Yes with them too” he smiled. “But you gotta tell me if they’re sleeping”

“Master was drinking a lot and Master was already asleep”

“Alright Kit. Ill show you something but you must not say anything ok?”

“Ok!”

He took out the improvised key from a vase and tainted the lock until he opened it.

“You could get out all this time?”

He sighed “No. Only on important moments. Now shhh” he put his finger on his mouth. “Come on Ill get you to your room but silence”

Kit put his lips together and followed him to his room. An spacious yet small little place with only the necessary and some toys. He was relieved he didnt live like them.

Dimitri put him to sleep.

“Goodnight Dimitri see you tomorrow?”

“Goodnight Kit. See you tomorrow” he said as he gave him a kiss on his forehead.

He closed the door silently.

Silent as a mouse, he went to his office. In all those years they had never guessed he had a key. So they had never bothered to lock the office. Dimitri knew perfectly where the copies were, but he knew keeping them would be too evident so he took them and made an improvised and quick copy of them with plaster.

He only needed to wait a few hours for it to harden.

He went as fast as he had gotten in but heard steps and hid quickly.

“Fuck…” Layo’s voice. He was going to the bathroom. And he would pass around the office for that.

Dimitri breathed quickly as he noticed. Was it that way he would end up? He took a stone decoration from a table and was ready to smash it on his head when he heard:

“Master? I can’t sleep!” Kit cried.

“What the…go to bed, Kit” the man said walking towards him.

“I can’t! Tell me a story! please, master!”

“Ugh what a pain is one am…Alright, Alright, coming go to your bed, Ill go take a piss before that…”

Dimitri held tight to the artifact.

“No!! Now!!”

“Argh! What a kid! Ok ok” he heard the door shutting.

Dimitri left the stone on its place and ran quietly to the cell. He closed it again and started working.

At 7 am it was ready. Later, Dimitri was preparing their masters for a full day outside when Layo said:

“Dont try anything funny Ok?” As he was locked up again. He had to hold the urge to laugh on his face.

“Understood”

Kit came running down a few minutes later.

“They’re gone!” He had told him.

Dimitri stood up. With backpacks on hand.

“Its time, Kit”

Dimitri got out of the cell and went upstairs. The house was empty. Or so it seemed.

“Kit” Dimitri held the boy’s small shoulders “I need you to go check on the door if there’s somebody. I’ll go get them ok? If theres someone dont scream it” he took the house phone and made it ring pressing a button “you do this and let the phone ring three times. Alright?”

The kid nodded. Dimitri gave him his binoculars back.

“Go see, explorer” he told him before the kid ran off.

He then made a little jump and sprinted towards the stairs. He went to the door where Roahn was and knocked three times. Her voice was husky.

“Dimitri?” She called

“Roahn, it’s me. We’ve gotta go. Now. Can you handle it?” He asked her through the door. A cough.

“Yeah” she said “always”

“We will take you to a doctor. I swear.” He said looking down and putting the keys on.

Roahn had been very sick for weeks. She couldnt give her enough milk and was very weak. Refusing to eat even. Miraculously, Jen was healthier than ever.

Finally the door opened and Roahn had her baby on her skinny arms. Eyebags dark in her face. Yet the light on her eyes were strong. He held her after giving her a hug.

“Lets go” he said as he helped her walk through the house. “Kit is waiting” that line made her sob happily.

“Our baby…” she said looking nowhere

They streamed downstairs, Roahn almost falling at various times due her legs not being able to move correctly. However Dimitri was there to hold her.

When they finally reached the kitchen Kit was waiting for them.

“Nobody on sight!” He said as if he was a sailor.

“Good” Dimitri told him “Kit, help Roahn out a bit would you?” He said putting her down to open the door. Kit sat besides Roahn and asked her if she was Alright to which she responded with a smile. Dimitri held the concrete key on his hand and inhaling deeply he unlocked the door.

The clicking sound of freedom was on his ears as if it was music.

The four of them stepped out of the house to the secondary door. Not before putting coats with hoodies that covered their faces. Then they ran. Quietly, agitatedly, desperately. The four of them reached the door withut problems.

There was no one apparently.

The door was in a vine wall. It was easy to pass through it because the key Dimitri had was a copy of the master key he used to buy groceries.

He held them down for a bit while he opened the door. It was the last thing.

The last.

When he opened the door he saw the street and a fist on his direction. A man in black suit punched him making him fall. Roahn and Kit immediately tried to run away from the man, but Dimitri, even when hazy due the pain, used a close by rock to knock the guy out by hitting his head. The man fell and Dimitri was alert to anybody else coming to try and stop them. But there was no one.

“Roahn!! Kit! Its ok!” He yelled with blood going down his nose. They went out of their hiding spot and went back to Dimitri.

“Are you ok?” Roahn said cleaning the blood off his face and stuffing his nose with tissues.

“Yes, we just need to go now” he told her holding her hand a second.

“Is he dead?” Kit asked without taking his eyes off the fallen man. Blood came out of his ears.

“No” Dimitri answered him taking the kid by his hand and running past the body “he’s just unconscious”

They ran and ran and ran until they were on a plaza with a supermarket and a pharmacy.

They were free.

“Now where?” Roahn asked him visibly tired.

Dimitri took a look at Roahn holding Jen like she was a precious stone. Impressively calm. Kit was amazed by everything he saw.

“Now…we take these off” he told her taking his hands to his neck. Feeling the belt like collar and undoing it. He took it out carefully and slowly. Holding it in his hands, Kit could see clearly the old scars on his neck. It grossed the kid to think about how he got such hideous scars.

Dimitri knelt down to Kit and took his collar off too. Kit felt lighter than usual and couldn’t hold the instinct to touch his now free neck.

Dimitri smiled a bit and ruffled his hair before doing the same to Roahn.

Roahn dropped a tear when she felt that lightness on her neck. They looked at each other’s eyes for a second but Roahn pulled him closer and gave him a kiss on his neck and then on his lips.

“Yikes” said Kit watching them. They looked at the kid and laughed.

“Sorry Kit” Dimitri laughed.

“What about looking around for a place to stay, hun?” Roahn asked sweating cold. “We’re tired and we will need to hide for a bit…” she said.

“You feeling ok, Ro?” He asked him cupping her face with his hands. She nodded slowly “We will take the bus to Keith City, I’ll go buy the tickets and have a doctor check on you there ok?”

“Ok” she said.

Suddenly Jen started revolving and slapping Roahn’s face.

“Hey hey what is it Jen?” She asked her. Kit moving towards her.

“Dont cry Jen! It will be alright!” The kid said.

“Is she hungry?” Dimitri asked. Roahn blushed in embarrassment.

“I cant… feed her. I need some baby milk powder. Do we have some?” She asked Dimitri.

He started to search but it was in vain and he knew it.

“Kit” the kid shoot his head up from trying to comfort the now crying baby “could you tell that man there where could we get an electric chair for Roahn?” He asked signaling a person with a supermarket uniform not that far away.

The kid ran to him and asked him. The man was almost a geezer but his smile was really bright.

“It’s for your mommy there? Is she alright?” He asked Kit.

“Eh…Roahn? I hope so…” the kid said unsettling the man a bit.

“Not your mom? Its your auntie then? You two look alike a lot” he said again pulling the electric chair to the woman.

“We-we do?” Kit said finding himself a question.

“Here it is lady. Everything alright? You look a bit pale ma’am” he said helping her get into the chair.

“Yes, sir” she answered him not conscious of her formality.

The man found the people on his view with a woman with baby on arms crying out loud, the many bags and the very attractive man with tissues on his nose very strange. But it was a walmart. He had seen all kind of people go there. So he just walked away.

They put some of the bags in the electric chair and the others on the package service. Then they entered the market. Dimitri was used to go so he wasn’t as excited as the others. Yet he couldn’t hide his happiness of not feeling that uncomfortable thing on his neck. It was now in the trash. They went through the isles calming the baby with a toy that hypnotized her long enough for them to look at everything. Kit was amazed. Asking questions about this and that. Roahn looked at the pharmacy isle where there should be a doctor with longing. Dimitri didnt notice as he was coming back with baby milk powder on his hands.

In the end they bought a few more things. Like the toy and a magazine for Kit. As well as painkillers. The cashier recognized him and greeted him “Good morning!” Dimitri greeted back. “Is that your family?” The teen asked looking at Kit showing Roahn an article from his magazine.

“Yes” he answered blushing.

“Your kid is very energetic” she remarked.

“He is!” He laughed a bit “excuse me, Lana, where would I get bus tickets? We’re going to Keith City to visit my wife’s sister, but my card doesnt seem to work now…”

“Oh! Here would be fine. Two adults and a kid right?”

Dimitri payed for the bus tickets that would depart in two hours and met Roahn and Kit.

Roahn was a bit uncomfortable to leave the chair, but they got a taxi to the bus station so she didnt have to walk any longer. She was now green.

“Everything alright ma’am?” The taxi driver asked her while Dimitri fed Jen.

“Y-yes, sir. No need to worry. Thank you” she answered.

Kit extended his bag of chips to her.

“Want one Roahn? You dont look good…” He said.

“Im alright Kit. Just tired, that’s all” she ruffled his hair. Kit pulling it down annoyed. “Ill be taking one, though” she said eating a chip slowly.

She rested her head On Dimitri’s shoulder who gave her a kiss on her forehead.

“Im not ok” she mumbled.

“We will get you a doctor there I promise” he whispered to her, giving her a kiss.

The rest of the way Kit talked with the driver asking him questions about his travels.

When they arrived at the bus station, they were good friends.

They got there just in time and went up the bus. It was a four hour ride, but all of them were exhausted and fell asleep as soon as the bus started moving.

Dimitri woke up an hour before getting there.

It was the first time he didn’t have a collar and walked around freely. It had been strange for him to book sits because of his lacking of last name. But he had come up with one last second.

His name was Dimitri Holberg.

Maybe it was made up, but he had an identity now. He wasn’t bee, yellow, dog or dildo.

He was a human being and his name was Dimitri Holberg.

He had a family and a mission to reunite them all.

With determination they arrived at Keith’s city.

I survived the supermarket. So sleepy now though. I'm supposed to stay up for at least 2 more hours but I wanna go to sleep like now...ugh.

I had salad when I got home. And I used up the last of the ingredient that's most difficult to find...I wanna make my own but I havent figured out a recipe yet and I usually have that for breakfast. I might have breakfast late tomorrow so I can go to the shop for the last bit I'd need. Just so irritating i didnt realise i was that close to running out before i went to the supermarket and i didnt think to get that anyway and blah. My brain is mush.

So I had a walk around the supermarket which is as much as I'd have been able to manage today. I feel like my insides are tying themselves in knots. I hate periods.

850kcal today which is okay. "Proper" restriction will have me passing out or whatever but I kind of dont want to eat a normal amount either... i think 600-1000 seems to be my comfort spot right now. It feels like I've stuck to that kind of level for a little longer recently and I'm trying to figure out why. I had a really bad overeating phase recently so maybe my body hasn't yet adjusted to the fact I'm undereating? Maybe it's because my mood has been so shitty? Idk.

I have been a little bit more stable today. Still bad. But like I had 10% instead of 3% and I was able to just claw myself up a little. I got a fresh hair tie, which is one of my favourite feelings in the world idk why. I have a thing about my hair and it feels really uncomfortable when its tied up but come loose. I feel fresher when it's done properly. And I just looked at pictures of stuff I wanna make that I probably wont get round to, at least not for a long time, but it's nice to think about it I guess. I feel like I did something else as a small self comfort thing but I dont remember what. My brain is mush.

So I'm kind of...slightly less on edge I guess. I still feel terrible, but just slightly less so that I could try to make myself feel better. I've done my 3 days without alcohol as well. 4 actual days, but 3 days by my body clock. So I can drink tomorrow if I want to...I'll see how I feel. If I dont drink tomorrow then itll be Saturday at the earliest and I doubt I'll get that far without horrible headaches and everything else. Idk.

Just now I weighed 158.8 which is kind of annoying because if I'm still about that much before bed, I'll be the same tomorrow as I was today, if not more. I know fluctuations and all...but I'm eating significantly less than I was this time a week ago and I've only lost such a small amount I could easily gain it back in a day or two. It just makes me irritated and worried. I hate the feeling that I'm not getting the reward for the work I do. It makes me not want to try, and then i feel guilty for not trying, so then I try again but I feel cheated when I dont get anywhere, etc etc. Ideally I need to stick with this until at least Monday to be able to see if I'm getting somewhere. My goal weight for then is 152, but I'd consider 154 or below a success. I mean I guess technically even 155 would still be something, but yeah...so I really really hope I have some water weight to drop.

I had to go do something so now it's actually 1h20 until I'm supposed to sleep. That could be doable...I think. I hope. Not the end of the world if I dont, but frustrating. More important that i get enough sleep wherever i can and just try to maintain some energy.

I did promise myself if I dont get anywhere after a while of restricting like this, I'll try something else. I need to not freak out and binge (on either food or alcohol). Its so hard though. When I feel like my body wont cooperate whether I try or not. And I'm not always the most patient person in the world. Bleh

they were out of vanilla bean ice cream, they had vanilla, french vanilla, sweet cream vanilla and cheesecake vanilla, but not vanilla bean, when did everyone all of a sudden get into vanilla bean, everyone was a pig they could not care less about the bean in the vanilla or not, but now apparently everyone was into vanilla bean ice cream because last week there was a full row of umpqua vanilla bean ice cream and now there was none

so I’m waiting in line at safeway with my subpar vanilla ice cream after I had gone on a much needed quarantine run right after spending two hours texting my friend and she was telling me about how google owns all the data in the world and not only has enough data to know me better than myself, but since they know everyone else’s data too, they know my friends data so they know me in context, the whole thing was very depressing so depressing i didnt even want to use a period in my writing anymore because what the fuck was the point of punctuation anyway in this world, i would still be nice and use commas, just to give my fingers a break and be able to get a thought in or so. 

i guess i could also accommodate for paragraphs break at visually appropriate times, it didn't matter if it was contextually appropriate or not, i was going to drop a paragraph break because i know people like paragraphs, charles dickens and dostoevsky and jane austen and leo tolstoy never made paragraph breaks that's why no one ever read their books, people just say they read them to seem smart but they never really read them they just knew it was the right thing to say that they were literary geniuses because their books were so long, see people like to lie and say they know the work of a great author even though they only read a few  quotes by them, but that was enough to say good and bad things about writers without ever knowing what the hell they did, few understand the theory of relativity but everyone calls einstein a genius. 

the thing about quarantine was that at this point i had gotten used to seeing very few people in my life and i was enjoying it so whenever i had to go to the supermarket i had to see all these people and boy were they gross, maybe i would not have seen them as so gross if had gotten my vanilla bean ice cream but i had not so, they were gross, they were all getting so fat, and fat in like weird ways, not like fat on the sides like the michelin tire guy or a cute belly like the pillsbury dough boy or like that kinda funny superfat like homer simpson or peter griffin they were just gross fat, like it looked like they had just been eating garbage and watching netflix fat, like this one guy seemed like if you got a pillowcase filled it up with hot lard and then poked two pool cues on the bottom of it, this other lady looked like a minifridge emptied into a potato sack.

the asses were the worst part, it was kinda hot so everyone was wearing shorts and it was not appropriate when they wear shorts always have that like red line right under the shorts and it does not look that great, the oddest one was the skinny ass but with fat legs, i did not get that one, the person would have no ass mass at all but then the legs were super fat i did not understand what they were doing to get their bodies to look this way, a lot of people were also walking around with wedgies, a lot of people were also walking around in pajamas covered in animal hair and it was gross, its like you have nowhere to go, you are all complaining about not having the right to go out, so when you do go out why not maybe spruce things up, honour life, honour your fellow human, no, screw that we are all going to behave like the whole entire public sphere is a big ass pijama party,

the whole facemask thing, wait before, i start talking about the facemask thing, everytime i start a new paragraph, google is trying to force me into capitalizing the first letter, it doesn't even ask me if i want to capitalize it, it just goes ahead and does it, google is such an presumptuous douche sometimes, now when i write in gmail, it autocompletes all my sentences, great so we can all sound like robots, and it does it like automatically, so i ending having to erase the lame sentence it wrote, i mean i would have probably come up with something similar or exactly the same too, after all there are only  so many ways to say goodbye, but id like to think it was my idea, these engineers had no savoir faire, just so you know, so now i hope that everytime you start to read a new paragraph you imagine me hitting the backspace button to delete their fascist capital letters, and its frustrating because im really trying to write as fast as i can, i bet you can tell

see it happened again, and its not that i just have to hit the delete, i have to get my mouse and put my cursor there so it like detects its not just on mistake i am trying to delete their smartass capital letter, so yeah to the facemask thing, the whole facemask thing was pretty dumb, i mean if the facemask was the windshield to the coronavirus i didnt get how casual people were being about, they would just pull it right down under their noise, oh great now you have all your coronavirus on your nostrils, what the hell, i didnt get it, im pretty sure noone in that safeway store had coronavirus, and it was coronavirus not covid19, what is it about us having to find dandy little names for things, it was the coronavirus and thats that, so yeah we were all carrying about these facemasks that if they were really protecting us from the coronavirus lingering in the air then we were being flagrantly irresponsible in our use, but deep down we all felt it wasnt, but we just had to wear one because it was the rule, but we all knew noone in the store had coronavirus

it may sound weird, but i think you know when someone has coronavirus, its like you can just tell, you know like other things you can just tell about a person, i remember i once went up to san francisco about a month ago, and i saw this guy on the muni line headed to the bayview that for sure had coronavirus, he wasnt coughing or anything, but i saw him and i knew he definitely had coronavirus, it wasnt because he was black or chinese or  anything, this isnt like a hidden racist joke, i could just tell, i freaked out , and i havent gone up to the city since then, and then, lo and behold they announced that a muni driver got the corona and that the bayview district had the most corona cases in the cities, see sometimes you can just tell

im pretty sure that day i even had the corona on me, i mean i didnt get it, but im pretty sure it landed on my hand, but i washed it before i touched any of my mucous parts, but it was there with me, i dont think it was from the guy on the bus thought, i think it landed from this other guy, i went to a deli to buy water, bananas, coca cola and chocolate and this guy was kinda drunk and talking real loud and coming real close and i could feel the air get really moist when he passed by me and my hand was exposed and i know that at that moment some of it got on my hand, but i didnt panic, i knew i couldnt lose my cool, i had to just play it smooth, and wait till i could get to the studio and wash my hand and everything else, i was really thorough i walked the whole way back to the studio with my hand outstretched so it wouldnt touch my jacket or anything, i could feel it was there, it was for sure there, but i played it cool and washed it and nothing happen, but i was that close 

 and thats why you have to wash your hands because you could be that close too to having coronavirus, so see im not that crazy, that the reason they recommend us all to wash our hands, because at some point it could be that close to you, and if you don't wash your hand before your touch your eye, boom you got coronavirus, crazy to think that you too could have had coronavirus on you, and you could have, but now i think there isnt that much coronavirus on things anywhere, i think the coronavirus is like hiding or something, i think the coronavirus are like finding their niches and stuff, like if you ask me i think the coronavirus right now is probably somewhere where the sun dont shine, i bet it like flew to a a dirty dive bar that was totally shut down windows boarded and everything, but its there just chilling on the sticky counter, waiting to come back in the summer, i also think it might be at like some nasty to-go food place, like there is this wing place open till midnite around my house, i bet there is a little coronavirus there, but only a little bit, and its like one of the lazy ones, so i dont think it feels like jumping on anyone

at work i have to tell the staff how to wash their hands, i tell them they have to wash on top of their hand, palm of their hand, each finger, in between fingers, under the finger nails, and up to the elbow, but i mean if they have coronavirus, and their touching my food, i think its going to get on the to go box anyway, but its the rules so i play along, i even translated the rules, and told them to sign a paper, the paper also said that they had to wear a facemask, its not like they have multiple facemasks, i mean we are going to give them a few, but its up to them to wash it, one guy asked me if he could use the same one for a few days, i told him no, but i mean even if he washes his facemask before work and then lets say he puts it in his pocket, what if his jacket has corona but his facemask doesnt, itd be a real shame if his corona jacket infected his noncorona facemask, but i saw him and i dont think he had corona anyway

im repeating the same point and the rant is losing steam, so i gotta ramp it back up, or maybe no, maybe its not all just about ranting, maybe i should tell you some good things, like ill tell you about my run, the day was so nice, it was bright and sunny, and thats really all i gotta say, the point that i have more to say about right now is that i feel like im writing like that kid from catcher in the rye, that kid was a real case, i cant say i disliked the kid, but i wouldnt hang out with him, i mean in general i wouldnt be hanging out with high schoolers, but i might hang out with him after he grows up, i think we were all like that kid at some point, and the ones that arent, are soul dead and just go to work and drink craft beer and probably become those engineers without savoir faire that figure out the code to finish my email sentences

but i also feel that i am writing likes james joyce in ulysses, those are two books that i read from cover to cover ulysses and catcher in the rye, all it takes is a good fucked up guy to write something honest and you can get me to finish it, james joyce was all about stream of consciousness, crazy to think that ulysses is regularly named the best book of the century, and it wasnt even that bad of a century for books, it was a crazy book, and it was daring and new to just expose how he felt a person thought, and i mean it was pretty smart, because that is how we think, we jump around and we get nervous and self conscious and horny and we think in simple letters, and our memories associate things weirdly, i mean dante was the best writer of all the time, but i dont know anyone that thinks inside their brain in metered stanzas, if there was such a person, i dont know if id like to meet him, it would be a lot to handle good novels have taught me a lot, they've confused me too, but overall taught me things, see life is a grey thing, like there arent absolute values, 

for us human beings, its easy to think of things as black and white, good and bad, yes or no, but thats not how it goes, there is a lot of grey area, and thats why i guess i liked ulysses, see the whole book is about this guy that is roaming around dublin, while he knows his wife is cheating on him, the last chapter is a stream of consciousness from his wifes mind, in which she just goes through her mind thinking about her past lovers and this guy she is cheating on her husband with, and ultimately she feels bad and when her husband climbs back into bed with her, shes like thinking oh there he is again, old leopold, but hes my leopold and she i guess kinda does admit to loving him, life hurts like that sometimes, a woman can still love you but cheat on you, a man can do it too, anyone can cheat on you, but still love you, anyone can hurt you and still love you, its a rough reality, remember i wrote an essay on this book, and the teacher said that i should save it and give it to the woman i marry it was so good, i didnt save it so i guess that wont ever happen, i cant even remember what i said, probably something about forgiveness and the abstract beauty of love, i was only twenty, i could have said anything

i wish i could remember what i wrote though, nowadays a lot of people are walking around with fear of intimacy issues, they are scared to open up to people, you know a lot of people are saying that they have intimacy issues, so i wanted to figure out more,  i looked it up on wikipedia and it said there were four types of people, normal people that love themselves and can share intimacy with others, people that think themselves unworthy of intimacy but seek it, people that are scared of being intimate with others out of fear of rejection, and people that have self worth but think others are undeserving of intimacy, i think the whole thing probably comes from parental stuff, that's always the freudian way of looking at things, its kind of a shame because i think people really do like laying in bed and talking comfortably with someone after a wild fuck, when i wrote the essay i didnt have intimacy issues, but i might now, i dont know, and even if  i did i dont know what type of of person i am,  i guess sometimes people do say some stupid things, and stupid things out of  a naked person are the worst kind of stupid things, whatever its wikipedia, anyone could have written, just like the original science study it supposedly based on,

ok this all getting too gooey and it lost its sharp vibe, i think that we were on a roll, when we were on the coronavirus landing places part, but then i get too serious and stuff, i do still want to talk about books i like, you know like thats one of the favorite things english teachers like to do, they like to analyze all the references that an authour made to other books, normally its the bible or the odyssey or some other greek or roman classic, like ulysses was modeled after the odyssey, i remember the teacher always talked about that, ive never read the odyssey or the iliad, ive heard they are great books, but i try not to say it myself, i do say that homer was a great poet though, but i never read his stuff, i mean ive read the first line, but i dont know the whole story or anything, i guess we are all hypocrites at some point or another, i do know however that ulysses was in one of dantes circles of hell, because he was advisor to deceit, the deceit of having that big horse full of soldiers go into to troy, so he ended up in hell, talking about hell that was another book they loved to reference, the bible, the bible doesnt see things grey, they see it black or white, this morning i woke up at four in the morning, and i couldnt get back to bed, so i pulled to a random spot and started reading proverbs, they make it seem so simple, this is good, that is is bad, i wish it were that simple, it used to be that simple like that when i was little kid, maybe it still is but,  i just refuse to see it that way

Transitioning to Veganism

In January 2019 I decided to take part in veganuary with the intention of being fully vegan afterward (bar what was already in my cupboard and needed eating up). It wasn’t a sudden decision, in fact, it had been a gradual choice that I had been considering for months at this point. I had been vegetarian since July 2017 and had been gradually decreasing my intake of animal products so that by the end of 2018 my diet was 80-90% plant based already. I had been avoiding dairy for the most part anyway as it causes my skin to break out badly and cheese was an expensive luxury on a furgal university budget. The only thing that really let me down in that aspect was when I ate out or by not checking labels.

Like most people I had watched the world-famous Netflix document ‘What the Health’ in the spring of 2017 and that was probably one of the first major catalyst that lead to me analysing and changing my diet. I had grown up on a small, rural island off the mainland of England, one of its main agricultures being farming. Every-day I would see cows and sheep grazing in fields both outside my bedroom window and on the way to school, I saw these animals had a good quality of life (in a way that they do not always in larger areas of Britain and the US), and like many people, never really questioned the connection between that and my dinner plate.

I was also notoriously fussy, and although I liked most varieties of meat, the same could not be said of vegetables. In fact I hated every single one until I was 16 and then I could just about stomach carrots. A healthy diet I did not have, despite how much my parents tried to push otherwise. Going vegetarian was simply not a viable option for me back then; but on joining university I started to cook for myself and my taste matured, leading me to today, where I now love 99% of veg (broccoli is legitimately my favourite food) and it makes up the bulk of my diet.

It meant, that when I watched the documentary I was able to genuinely consider becoming vegetarian, and started to slowly phase meat out of my diet. Even then, I knew that ultimately I did want to become vegan, after seeing the impact the meat and dairy industry has on our health*, the environment and on the animals who are subjected to it. But I wanted to do it the right way and for the long-term. If I cut out everything at once I knew after a week or two I would revert back to my usual diet, my body craving things that had always been present. I also wanted to be educated about things I substituted meat for; I go to the gym regularly and I wanted to know that what I was eating would have a good variety of nutrients. And most importantly, I didn’t want my mental health to suffer.

Like most young women growing up in this century I have had issues with food and my body. Although I have never received any formal help or diagnosis I definitely had an unhealthy relationship with food, especially in my mid-teens, though even now some days are harder than others. For the most part I am a lot better, but I was wary that if I suddenly cut out a lot of different foods and placed a lot of restrictive rules on my diet that I would be taking a huge step backwards, that I would go back to obsessing over every little thing that I eat. I didn’t want to sacrifice my health and knew that if I was to do this safely, then gradually converting my diet was the only answer.

And that is what I did. First it was dairy milk, an easy swap as there are so many alternatives on the market. I mainly go for soya at home because it’s the cheapest and I really don’t need anything fancy in my bowl of porridge, but oat is by far my favourite and go-to when I’ve gone out for a coffee.

Eggs was one of the biggest changes. In my second year of uni I had eggs for breakfast nearly everyday that I wasn’t on placement, and I genuinely didn’t see myself as able to give them up. But in third year I found a love of porridge and overnight oats, or tofu scramble if I fancied something closer to what I usually had eaten. And eventually I was only having eggs when eating out, there is nothing nicer than an eggs benedict (and if anyone can link me to a good vegan recipe for it, I will love them forever).

Like I previously mentioned, cheese wasn’t a large part of my diet, because as a university student it just wasn’t worth budgeting for. I’ve never had a problem with any of the vegan alternatives I’ve tried, though this may be because I ate cheese so rarely that I couldn’t really directly compare the two.

Chocolate, the crux for many people, was a big one. “But how do you live without chocolate?” I’m normally asked by my horrified coworkers, and the answer is that I don’t. In fact, I probably have it in some form everyday, it just took a bit of getting used to looking for the vegan friendly alternatives in tescos. But there are plenty, and even some of the major brands are accidently vegan (looking at you bourbons).

Eventually it just left occasions where I was eating out (laziness would sometimes lead to me choosing the vegetarian option, and other times it was simply because that was what I wanted to eat), and items where I had not checked the label for hidden ingredients. Milk powder is in bloody everything, and if it’s not that, it’s normally eggs. Quorn in particular is well-known for this, though their vegan range is steadily growing.

By December 2018 I felt ready to take on Veganuary. I no longer felt like my diet, or lifestyle would be negatively impacted by it and I saw it as a great chance to draw a line under the sand. When speaking to my dad on the phone two weeks in he asked if I was struggling yet. And honestly? I hadn’t even noticed, as there had been so few occasions where I would have chosen the non-vegan option anyway. To me it just made sense that after January I continued to eat plant based, and now, at the end of February I haven’t regretted it once. I am a giant advocator of eating a vegan diet. I feel so much healthier than when I ate meat, am more active than ever and can’t remember the last time I fell ill. I do understand it’s not possible for everyone, people who have had or have eating disorders may definitely struggle, and placing a load of rules on what they can and can’t eat wouldn’t be beneficial to their mental health in the slightest (just as it wouldn’t have been for me once upon a time).

I also understand that if you’re not educated about nutrition and the aspects of a healthy diet, then becoming vegetarian/vegan doesn’t automatically mean you’ll be any healthier, especially with the wide range of plant based foods and meals now out in supermarkets (I’m not berating any of these releases in the slightest, it’s amazing to see so many options and makes it a lot more accessible than it once was, it just means navigating for a healthy option isn’t always the easiest thing). Being vegan is still a privilege, I only have to support myself on my wage and it leaves plenty of room to opt for the more expensive meat alternatives and keep my diet balanced. A single parent with two kids however doesn’t have this option, and places like Lidl and Aldi are brilliant for selling a large quantity of meat for a relatively low price.  

But reducing your meat and animal product intake is good for the planet, and I do think that every little thing, whether that be partaking in Meatless Monday or swapping dairy milk for soya helps. No-one has to be perfect or commit to the most severe of changes, especially if they feel it is what they should do because Instagram told them to, but making a substitution here and there helps massively.

*I am not saying that meat and dairy cannot make up a healthy diet, though like anything in large quantities it isn’t beneficial. There is also plenty of evidence against cows milk and how we digest it. In early 2019 the Eat-Lancet commission (linked below) was published, outlining global targets for the world population to achieve a healthy, nutritionally balanced diet whilst keeping food production sustainable. The diet consists mainly of fruit, vegetables, grains and legumes, with a small amount of meat and fish. It is fairly similar to the Mediterranean diet, and emphasises that you don’t need to cut all animal products out, but reducing them would be highly beneficial on a number of levels!

In the middle of the night in the front of a closed up train station I think my options.

I remember how life was before. I think about mom kisses, about my dad playful mood. I remember their laughs, their kisses, their words. How I used to be the center of their world.

Why did they stop loving me?

Just learnt that my mom gave away the photos she had of my childhood. Last time we spoke was 25th May, 2021. She has a new family, a brand new baby. Looks like there wasnt any space for me, she has only love enough for one of us. So, she stole my money, made bills on me behind my back, acted like she didnt know me at the supermarket, blocked me on social media, and change everything to only my little brother's (Which I never met) name. I just dont get why. What did I do for her to just stop loving me?

I am disgusting disaster. I hate myself.

My dad just dont want to deal with me anymore, because I am not what he thought I would be. I left the church that he chosen for me, I didnt go to college, I married early, I am tattoed, I like fireguns, I am an anorexic shit. He has a new family and my mess is not his problem anymore.

dream last night

i was at a museum with two other peeps that i cant really identify anymore and they had like a special exhibit with monet stuff and i wanted to see the giant water lily painting and when i ran into the exhibition room, there were a bunch of stag beetles and i called the other cause i fucking love stab beetles but there werent any monet painting in the room just some weird decorative leather work. so we went looking for the paintings from exhibit to exhibit and like they were all about furniture design and there was a room full of medieval kitchen stuff and it was like, interactive and kids were playing with it. the next room was full of textiles and cushions. the next was like, fashion ads from 2000s and there was like a paper cut out of a model wearing basically the same outfit as me and i called the others to see and they said i dress bad cause i wear sneakers with long skirts and that pissed me off so much and i wanted to go further but they dragged me back the way we came and when we were at the exit i said to them yeah im going back you dont have to come with me and there were sooo many ppl and i took the escalator upstairs again but they followed me. but i got on the wrong escalator that went like three levels up at once to a platform to a rollercoaster that brought you back into the museum ?? and i remembered that i was here with my family before and we took this rollercoaster and it was brutal so i told the others we should go down again but maybe next time they should try the rollercoaster. there was only one escalator going down to the second level and from there another escalator down and we thought it would take us to the entry of the museum but it lead into some weird bar with neon lights and the bartender said we must take a quiz on the museums exhibits now to get out again and i panicked cause i didnt read any of the plates and said i cant take this quiz but he said its sufficient if i looked at the paintings and the room started filling with water and the bartender had a floating tire and a cocktail with a straw and handed us the quiz and started a cd playing the questions. but it just playing jason derulo music and then britney spears and the others were ticking off answers on their sheets and i didnt understand a thing and the music was so loud so and the water was rising and i told the bartender i couldnt understand anything cause of the loud music?? and then i was just fuck it and swam out the door and my friends were like oh boy its gonna have a hard time going from this cold water in this room to the warm water outside. and yep like the entire huge hall was flooded and it was indeed harder to swim in the warm water. i swam down to the exit and there was a flowers sale place like near the exit in supermarkets they always sell flowers. and i was like, oh im here already i could buy a plant. and even though i didnt even go near the cacti there were so many thorns sticking in my legs.

i had more dreams that night i woke up a bunch but i dont really. recall enough to write down more.

My registration was suspended because I didnt show proof to the DMV that i had car insurance. I recently bought car insurance but I cannot show proof to the DMV until I receive my Insurance card in the mail which the insurance rep said it may take 2 weeks! I already paid my fee to the DMV to reinstate my insurance but i have to wait until the insurance card come inorder to submit my insurance to the DMV. I want to get life insurance, but I am not sure whhich type of insurance I should get. I have done lots of research and majority of the research tells me to get term life insurance, but I am still confused to why. Here is a little about me: 30 years old, married, and have a baby. Due to an illness/ disability in our family, despite having health insurance, we still owe thousands in medical bills. Those that would not work with us turned them into collection. They now show on our credit report. Despite being insured for both our auto insurance and our home insurance for 20+ year with the same insurance company, we got a notice saying our auto insurance had gone up hundreds of dollars per year based on a credit report they obtained. We have never had an accident, ticket, etc. and the amount automatically comes out of our checking each month. Suspended Registration in California due to Car Insurance?

My registration was suspended because I didnt show proof to the DMV that i had car insurance. I recently bought car insurance but I cannot show proof to the DMV until I receive my Insurance card in the mail which the insurance rep said it may take 2 weeks! I already paid my fee to the DMV to reinstate my insurance but i have to wait until the insurance card come inorder to submit my insurance to the DMV. I have my temporary insurance card and my car registration in the car. What would be the consequences if i get pulled over by a cop? Thank you in advance.

Do we really need animal experiments?

Hi, as an animal activist I want to note something here about animal experiments. I really am tired of telling people about my past ignorance status and how I was postponing my dreams for long years for not being a part of animal experiments; when they blame me of doing experiments on animals. Lets start Do scientists who do animals experiments are curiel creatures with no mercy in their hearts? - no, we are not. We do love animals, may be more than you think or may be more than you do. and no, we dont mastrubate on killing animals - yes I am tired of your accusations like this. Is there any other way for science except trying or experimenting on animals? - depends on the area on the topic on the result that you expect and you want to use. Yes there are some cases in which may be if you dont do animal experiments, it is okay but mostly you have to do it. For example, up to me, the technology is developing so fast. and now in some schools they are using computer simulations in order to teach children about the internal organs of animals humans etc. Due to my opinion, sacrificing a mass of animals in the first and second years of bachelors - each animal for each student just to see the internal organs.. come oooon / I am not talking about physiology etc - is not really important. A secret: it was my first and last academic lie.. I told the assistants I was feeling sick and run away from that lecture. I didnt lost anything.. Really. however if you are going to do science, you have to study on animals. Let me tell you the situation basicly. It was the first time when I understood that there is no escape from this even though doing animal experiments were against my moral values. I was taking lectures from Cancer Institute of Hacettepe Medical School and I had a proffessor named L. D. - whom I still in love with and take as an example to myself for my future studies and still in contact - We were studying cancer signal transduction and hypoxia and epigenetics together and one day she suddenly said, "the cell is a part of us however clever than us. We even cannot rule a single cell... " I just remember looking at her grey blue eyes which were shining with curiosity and passion for science. I was like "shit, I have to...I have to do animal experiments. We even cannot rule a single cell completely and we are trying to find a cure for sth in a whole system. a cell changes its signal transduction pathway to find its way itself, and when they are two cells now there are two unknowns... when it becomes a whole organ it changes when it becomes a system the reaction changes." So this is basicly, depending on the study that you do, "for now" - for now, because there is always a probability and expectations in science-, doing tissue cultures and trying to see the effect of the drug that you produce is just a fantasy. yes you can use these methods to decrease the animal numbers that are going to be sacrificed - like , doing in vitro first then doing the experiment on the organ tissue culture and then on a whole system - but you know what ? then stop consuming everything. because neither in vitro nor organ cultures are not really cheap ways to do experiments. stop consuming for yourselves, get on with your neighbour countries well, so you wont need any military and the money will directly be used by the science..... - upst ... but then if you have that money to use on science, why dont you just try to feed the people in Africa or why dont you just try to spend that money on first the conservation of species. I cannot believe that I am saying these, but this is the truth. The only thing that a scientist can do is, 1. we should be ethic. We should really work for science and development and for the sake of other living things - and non living things because it is nature together - instead of working for money - I mean I dont wanna be a silly romantic. We need money we work for it yes, however what I mean is not selling the ethical values to money 2. we should try to design the experiments in detail, try to decrease the bias - pls no bias - , and we should study carefully not to lose any animal for nothing - sometimes it happens but our faults are also contributing to science right? -there are other things which were on my mind but I forgot. I wanted to explain because I really am sorry the accusations of people. and they say that they are against animal experiments right? And they are blaming scientist right? so be sincere... dont use drugs, dont eat from supermarkets, dont make up, dont go to doctor.... then.

On the brink of Brexit, voters reflect: I feel more strongly now. Let’s get out

As article 50 is about to be triggered, how do people feel in Smethwick, a Midlands town that voted to leave?

I moved to Bearwood in Smethwick in the hot summer of 1976. We were moving up, leaving behind the sixth floor of a block on the sprawling Lee Bank council estate for a house and garden in a safer area with large parks and better schools, a few miles from Birmingham.

I grew up there in the 70s and 80s, when there was optimism about our future. The colour bar experienced by a first generation of immigrants in the 60s, in some shops and the bingo hall, had been replaced by our own Why would I want to go there anyway? self-induced bar. The days when a Conservative party candidate could run, and win (in 1964), on the slogan If you want a nigger for a neighbour, vote Liberal or Labour seemed distant.

My mother is Jamaican and, like many of my generation, I failed the Norman Tebbit test completely. I didnt support any England team. I would rehearse long debates about how I might reject a call-up for the England rugby team, even if my ability meant that call would never come. Jamaica was great for holidays, but didnt feel like home: everyone there called me English.

So while I was always a Smethwick boy, I can still pinpoint the moment I first felt British: in 1992, when Linford Christie won the 100m at the Barcelona Olympics, this most Jamaican of men running around the track with the British flag. We had grown up hearing songs like There aint no black in the Union Jack; what Christies gesture said was, Im British: deal with it.

A mistrust of foreigners has been singled out as the driving force behind last years vote to leave Europe. But why did places where more than 50% of the population have recent origins outside the UK vote for a policy of exclusion? Smethwick is in many ways typical of the radical changes to Britains racial demographic since the second world war: in the 50s and 60s, Commonwealth citizens from the Indian subcontinent and the Caribbean emigrated here to alleviate job shortages, particularly in the NHS and transport. A large number of Sikhs moved from the Punjab to work in Smethwicks foundries. Later waves of immigration brought asylum seekers, students and workers from around the world.

When I was growing up, my white British friends liked the same music, played the same games and ate the same food as we did. We knew people who joined far-right groups; but the various gangs were largely multiracial, affiliated to the area more than anything else a loose Smethwick posse. There would be running battles with skinheads from Quinton and beyond; I cant remember a Saturday night that was not punctuated by someone being glassed or having a pool cue wrapped around their head.

Today Smethwick is home to a more diverse range of communities. It is still a relatively cheap place to live, so new arrivals often start off here. You will see Eritrean church services in Victoria Park, eastern European supermarkets on Cape Hill, a Ghanaian wedding at the community centre, alongside the more established Sikh temples and African Caribbean churches.

Speaking to Smethwick friends from white British and second-generation immigrant backgrounds, you hear support for Brexit from a diverse range of perspectives: there is the Fortress Europe argument (people of Commonwealth origin not being able to move to the UK, because preference is given to EU citizens); British Asian shopkeepers who dont like the Polish shops stealing business; an objection to the Thatcherite capitalist structure enshrined in the EU. Underlying all these things is a powerful revolt against what is perceived to be a self-serving political elite.

None of the second- or third-generation immigrants I met on a recent visit to Smethwick thought Nigel Farage would deliver a harmonious society founded on principles of social justice. But the supposed social justice champions, Labour, today have far less connection to the people they seek to represent than they once did. Todays politicians speak relentlessly about engaging and understanding these alienated communities. But even their use of the word community is loaded often based on race or religion or class, as if there were no diversity of opinion among them.

What does the future hold for Smethwick in a post-Brexit Britain? My more pessimistic side worries that inequality will increase, as the fight for a share of an ever smaller pie is orchestrated by a privileged few who use alienation, fear and loathing to divide and rule. But a bigger part of me is optimistic: a younger generation has always found ways of creating new relationships with other like-minded people, be they Italian, Irish, Ghanaian, Nigerian or Indian. It might feel claustrophobic at this moment in time, and Smethwick will struggle with the macro issues. But there are enough people there with goodwill, who want to come together, who will want to get on with it. Hamish Crooks

My little boy and I moved here from Birmingham in 2009. I had separated from his father, and when I got here we didnt know anybody.

Smethwick is an interesting area because the diversity works really well. Everyone seems to get on where we live. But there are some negative aspects of multiculturalism. For example, there is no non-halal butcher around here, and I dont want to eat halal meat because they dont always stun the animal before they kill it I feel its a bit cruel. Ive had a row a few times with shops advertising places to rent, with signs saying Indian family wanted. I said, You do know thats illegal, dont you? I remember when they used to have signs up saying No Irish, no blacks.

My little boy is the only white English kid in his class, and they dont celebrate any English things at all. They didnt do anything for the Queens jubilee or birthday. I dont mind him celebrating Jamaica Day or whatever; I just wish theyd also incorporate English things. On VE Day, I took him into Birmingham to see the celebrations, because he has to celebrate his history as well. But he is absolutely oblivious to the fact that other people are a different colour to him. I think children of his generation are integrating more.

A lot of immigrants here say they dont want any more immigrants, but I havent heard many white people say they voted Brexit because of immigration. I dont know whether its because theyre scared of being accused of being racist. I voted Brexit because of all the money thats wasted on the EU. I dont think it will stop free movement and I dont think it means we wont have any trade; I just think it means well have a bit more control.

A lot of people have had enough of MEPs making so much money and not doing anything. Who can name an MEP, really? We dont seem to be getting any more rights out of it. Why not trim off all that excess spending and use it on things we do need? Theres a crisis in social care, and health services are being cut; the schools are constantly fighting cuts.

When you read about Brexit in the paper, they say, The people who voted for Brexit didnt know what was going on. Its hugely insulting to assume that just because were poor, we dont read newspapers and were all thick. Theyve got no concept of what its like to be poor, and how miserable people really are. I think it was a good result, and I think it taught the government to be careful what they wish for, because they did all this with no plan whatsoever; they were so sure remain was going to win. It serves them right.

Ive lived in Smethwick all my life. My parents came from north India so my dad could work in the foundry. They were invited over, just like the Europeans were. Ive never had an issue with anyone thinking Im less British than they are. But when Punjabi people came here, they couldnt speak English, so they were victimised. Once my dad took me for a drink in the local pub and this guy at the bar started talking to him inappropriately, saying, Butbut dingding. I asked my dad, Why does he do this? and he said, Hes been doing it for years, its not an issue. I took the guy aside and said, Have you been taking the piss out of my dad for 20 years? He said, What do you mean? He never said anything. To this day that guy still buys me a drink in the pub, because he remembers that chat. I changed the way he thought.

Everybody I know voted leave. I voted leave because of my daughters, who are 12 and 15. They go to a grammar school and they feel held back because the foreigners coming into the school dont speak English well; it makes the classes go slower. It was also because Polish people are cutting off my work. Im a painter and decorator, and Im not getting the rates I used to because the Polish people are undercutting us. Thats the case generally in the building trade.

But Im angry that my parents voted out. Im very bitter about that. Its the hypocrisy of it, because they came over from India and they had an opportunity to integrate and they havent: my mum still barely speaks English. Theyve made lives and families for people like me, they worked hard; everyone else is just trying to do the same as they did. I think the way the Sikh community voted was hypocritical.

Sometimes I regret voting Brexit. In hindsight, without a shadow of a doubt, we didnt have enough information; it was turned into an immigration issue, which it wasnt, and as a whole were going to lose out. Other times, I stick by my decision. I need to think about where my works coming from.

I moved to Smethwick in 1976, looking for work. I also had a pen friend here. We belonged to different divorced and separated clubs; I was the vice-chairman of the one in Portsmouth where I lived, and they used to have a magazine and she advertised for a pen friend. We were writing for two years before I moved here. We married in 1977 and were together for 39 years. She ended up having two major strokes, one of which should have killed her, but the hospital brought her round; I got another nine months with her.

Smethwick has changed a lot much of the old industry has gone. There were dirty factories, steel works and car component workshops; now theyre all new factories or houses, so in that way its better. Weve got more immigrants than whites. The shops are virtually all Asian, and the well-known ones, like Woolworths and David Greigs, are gone.

Its less British, because Ive found, working with some of them, that half the Asians dont want to mix. A very nice lad used to sit with us during the tea break, and he came in one morning and told us that someone in the factory had told his dad he sat with us, and his father had said, You are not to sit with them, you are to sit with your own people. It makes you feel, whats wrong with us?

I voted for Brexit because I think the common market has got out of hand. I think they waste an awful lot of money moving their offices once a month from Brussels to Strasbourg and back again. What were paying them is unbelievable, billions a year, which would do our own health service and schools good. Id like to see free movement from Europe cancelled. This country cant keep on taking people; the services cant cope with the influx, and there are not enough houses. When we won, I thought, Great, lets get on with it. I feel more strongly now. Lets get out.

Ive been living in Smethwick since 2002, when I migrated from Bangladesh to study for an MBA at Birmingham City University. After completing my MBA, I managed to secure a job. Now Im living here happily with my wife and two children; my son is nine and my daughter is seven.

Smethwick has become overpopulated and there are more new faces, with a slight increase in antisocial behaviour over the past few years; the demand for housing has increased.

I had heard about that campaign slogan [If you want a nigger for a neighbour, vote Liberal or Labour from the 1964 local election], and that Malcolm X came to visit the year after, which is amazing. But to be honest, I dont think racial tension is a big issue now. From my experience, people do understand others their religions, their values, their cultural dimensions and characteristics. It could be an isolated judgment, but I havent seen the nasty side of community cohesion. People get along quite well, basically.

I felt Brexit was a protest vote, to show a lost trust in politics; traditional politicians are failing to deliver. People feel European migrants are putting unnecessary, undue pressure on public services, the NHS, school places, housing, and that if we come out of Europe that will ease the pressure. These are the day-to-day issues that people are fed up with.

I voted and actively campaigned to remain. I was really, really shattered by the result, because in the age of globalisation and connectivity, and at such a crucial time, this isnt the right decision. It is going backwards, and it was not an informed decision. The message were sending to the rest of the world is that were not open or collaborative. We dont want to work with other people: we are detaching ourselves.

Nine months on, I dont feel any more positive. Ive given up on trying to give reasons to remain because Im in the minority. But I know people who regret voting Brexit; they justify it by saying the politicians misled them.

Ive lived here my whole life. I was born in Hamble near Southampton, but my mother died having me, so I was brought here to live with my grandparents.

Smethwick has changed enormously. My road used to be full of bank managers and teachers, and there were no foreign people of any description. I remember seeing men wearing turbans for the first time when I was 10 or 11 and had taken my two cousins out for a walk. One of them said hello, and I said to my cousins, Run! because I had no idea: Id never seen Sikh people before.

My father was very racist but Im definitely not. The priest at my church is Nigerian and we have 22 other nationalities, people of all colours, shapes and sizes, and we all get on. The first foreigners who came were West Indians, and the others have come gradually. I consider them all friends. A lady down the road, Surinder, and I were once opposite each other in the hospital and weve been firm friends ever since. She called me when I came out, asked how I was and said, If you need anything at all, let me know and my family will get it for you. There are lots of kind people about.

I voted Brexit. I didnt vote for us to go into Brussels; I voted for the common market and I think we were cheated in that respect. We havent only got to trade with Europe, theres a whole world we can deal with. Im looking forward to getting back to how we were: running our own farms, being able to look after ourselves. Perhaps Im wrong but this is how I feel, that we werent told the full story back in 1975. We were just told it was good to be part of a common market; we werent told they would be ruling us. Im not really into politics, but the vote happened and I get cross when they try to reverse it. Now I think: lets just get on with it.

I was born in London. My parents were from Zimbabwe, although it was called Rhodesia at the time. We left the UK in 1977 to go to Nigeria. My dad was a civil engineer and had a job with the Nigerian government, building several highways. Towards the end of 1982, we went to live in Zimbabwe. In 1995 I moved to Brighton, where I met my wife Catherine, and in 2008 we moved to Smethwick with our month-old daughter.

I wanted to study mental health nursing at Birmingham City University, but changed my mind after three weeks. I didnt think it was something I would cope with emotionally. In 2009 I started a course in International Business and Economics at Aston University instead. We had three other children (they are now eight, seven, four and two) and they all settled in school, so we stayed. Ive spent the majority of my life in this country, and I am British.

The main change Ive seen here is the people coming from Poland. I dont think theres a lot of tension between the different communities everybody just gets on. What I worry about is the self-imposed segregation, these monocultural ghettos that are springing up: Pakistanis in one area, Polish people in another, white working class in another. It seems everybody is more comfortable with people who look the same as them, which is quite sad. Whether thats a conscious thing or if it just happens naturally, I dont know.

I was shocked by Brexit. I voted to remain. At university I learned to critically analyse things, and I was always arguing against the leave campaigns points of view. Usually when theres an election, I stay up late to find out who my MP is going to be, but this time I was confident we would remain. It was a big surprise. When I spoke to some of the parents at my childrens school, most had voted to leave. I was surprised and upset.

My point of view hasnt changed. It doesnt make sense to me that people want to leave the biggest market, then try to negotiate a good deal within that market. But I have accepted it. Its democracy, right?

Day 009 : The Happy 29th - First Otaku Mania on Batangas [1/2]

I have no idea why I have this urge of hating the number 29.

Anyway, months prior January, Otaku Mania Batangas (FB ACCT) announced they will be holding an event and time added, January 29th became something to look forward to. It was the same day that Undertaker will join the Royal Rumble and Philippines is set to hold the Miss Universe pageant . Quite avid fan of the two, mostly to the first Otaku Mania at Batangas. -- 2017/ Jan 29       I convinced my cousin, Shervee to watch the event with me. My previous classmates on highschool to join us later that day.It went well, with the plan. Taking a bus to the SuperMarket and riding tricycle to reach the event venue.

        The venue is not as big whereas the yearly event my school is celebrating. But it was sufficient enough to comprise the number of people attended. It wasn't as crowded I imagined it would be. People attended come in groups, it was definitely threatening to feel alone upon our arrival.

       Time before the twelfth strike, we decided to eat outside the mall and saw by Jollibee's window, everyone followed the same, to eat their lunch too. After, the eerie group sense became clear and everyone roamed for a selfie/groupie to those friendly cosplayers.

        I was stuff with what I eat so moving around the event, became a harder course. I decided to check the GunPla Build Off Challenge. Day after, one of my bet won, I'm overjoyed ( because I have a good eye ) hahahha. JK. Nah. It was definitely impressive, not to mention, when I was skimming the gundams I heard a familiar voice. I thought it was my arts teacher but there's a big body difference between the two. Haha. Chesie noticed it also.

PS: I dont have good camera to bring with me so I ask Chesie to take it for me.

    The two in black were looking good together, not romantically but their chemistry as characters I guess. They were this playful and so cute when they made that pose.

Nishinoya is full of energy, "chicking" this Nico Nico and one girl, cant remember who, says he was the senpai. More importantly the kid on Hyakuya costume was adorable. haha. You can graduate in peace towards cosplaying if you see other kids living the same passion. Ah! Let it Go sisters, though late, managed to perform on stage too.

Yep. My first time interacting with crossdressers too. Everyone was welcoming, and just being themselves free at the open. (There are countries managing to block crossdressing on events you see)

The last two photo's hot me in awe. It was coincidental (Mekaku Cosplay) and each came from different group. Chesie is in the middle btw. Yep. That is her. Funny moment. Yuri on Ice, howver, idk where did Phichito went, I saw him before , I didnt manage to get him/her a photo.

      At the end of the event, during the event, I was able to make one friend, her name was Mary Hime. Accidentally, while waiting for the cosplay event to start, the stage is left for volunteers to perform, singing or dancing. My friend, Celestia, I guess, knew her personally so we asked her if it was possible for us to do so. She responded for the call and allowed us, I wasnt able to sing because i dont have the necesseties with me that time. It wasnt even included in the event details so I wasnt that prepared. Naming a song is out of that time too. She constantly roam the room communicating with the event staffs and I was able to took photos of her that time. Celestia is good at singing btw. Haha. Wow!

Anyhow, it was definitely something was lacking at the event, to the organisers and collaborators. With that fact in mind, it was definitely more than enough the fun it brought towards the invited. Raffle Draw and Costrip or not, the staffs encourage the others to join the catwalk for documentation. At the end of the day, we took the bus again , lingering the feeling how successful it have been towards the audience and it's staffs.
