I will admit as a lesbian on the internet that sometimes lesbians on the internet will see two women barely interact and then ship them (which totally cool and correct of them to do). That is NOT what is happening with Trudy and Kelsey those women have layers of homosexuality going on to the point that I am convinced the ghost of a dead lesbian teacher from the 50s has possessed Matthew Arnold and is speaking through him without his knowledge. I hope that Trudy and Kelsey figure it all out and kill Tucker and end up having a wonderful life with their newly acquired murderson Francis Farnsworth. And Freddie’s there too I guess

when a post goes viral, at least one rando attributes to me viewpoints or flaws that I don't think I have and criticizes me for them. main thing that calms me down fast is remembering the flaws I do have and how he could have criticized me for those instead if only he'd known. but he didn't. because I hide them

I swear, the Pale King just organized a conveyor belt for the production of minions from the void and delegated his duties to them
Tumblr media
In my understanding, Lurien and the Collector were the two most reasonable specimens, so the King made them work. For free, of course, only out of a sense of love for its creator. And less autonomous samples became his kingsmoulds
Lurien was obviously entrusted with overseeing the City of Tears, but I think the situation is more interesting with the Collector
I think the King originally appointed him as a scientist who was supposed to study the effects and consequences of contact of living beings with the void. Is it possible to defeat the infection in this way or reduce its impact? It would be easy for him, since he himself is from the void
After all, he has his own tower with a study. But to be honest, the Tower of Love reminds me of one big room with soft walls for a madman, and it stands literally on the very edge of the city, isolated from it. I think the king initially saw that the Collector was not quite adequate, but he needed research, so he simply provided him with a tower with access to the Edge of the Kingdom so that he could catch unreasonable beetles there for research, and not cause problems in the city
The bug with the void flowing out of its eyes, in which we find the key to the tower, thinks that they have been together with someone for too long, and have become one. I think it was one of the assistants or workers in the tower who escaped when the influence of the void on the inhabitants of the tower became obviously detrimental. He locked the Collector up and took the key with him so that he could no longer "protect" everything he could reach

can't believe an anime called buddy daddies did not end up being, in fact, just a silly little comedy of two hitmen raising a child together but instead an actual heartwarming, well written show about (re)learning to love and to be loved, about how the meaning of family goes way beyond blood and no matter how unconventional it may be, it's still as perfect and valid because it's yours and you wouldn't trade it for anything else

I feel like, as a late member of the QSMP fandom, I’m still stuck on the Rusis Potion arc. Like. You’re telling me this Minecraft SMP server casually had a whole arc about drug abuse and addiction and the way they were saved was by one of the people who were addicted (Pac) push through it enough and have just enough hope to find the antidote and everyone stood by them and assured them they wouldn’t be alone??? THAT IS SO GODDAMN BEAUTIFUL WTF. I CAN’T GET OVER IT.

Tommy would be the kind of guy that hates nicknames while also going by a nickname himself lmao. But seriously he does say he knew howie before he was chimney (and howie is also technically a nickname??) so I dont think its a nickname thing necessarily. So like there is actually just no canon explanation as to why tommy calls him evan that makes a bit of sense. My personal headcanon is that buck is like “im evan but my friends call me buck” and tommy just never had any interest in being friends with buck which is why he calls him evan lol. Or hes just too pretentious to call someone hes interested by their (preferred) silly nickname
This is getting really in the weeds about a stupid throwaway thing I said LMAO but I am making a distinction here between like, a nickname and a diminutive of your given name. Like “Eddie” “Tommy” “Howie” “Bobby” and “Hen” are all diminutives. “Chimney” is a nickname. “Cap” is a nickname. “Buck” I guess would technically be a diminutive of his SURNAME but to me that rises to the level of a nickname. (if you think I’m being pedantic about this well yes but also my sister is heavily involved in a sports subculture that takes nicknames VERY seriously so I know what I’m talking about)
The show even makes this same distinction in 2x01 when Buck is trying to come up with a nickname for Eddie despite the fact that Eddie is clearly already a diminutive of his full name. And he DOES suggest Diaz as an option so I feel like the show will back me up on the “surnames count as nicknames” front.
What’s interesting and what always stands out about that scene in 2x01 is that Buck's main complaint about Eddie is that he didn't have to like, put in the time/effort to be basically welcomed onto the team. He's too "familiar." And two scenes before Buck is kind of trying to force a nickname onto Eddie basically saying like, you can't be one of us if you aren't abiding by our in-group norms (having a nickname). Eddie is clearly not interested in abiding by this (he does not volunteer a nickname nor does he really engage with Buck much on the topic). and what is also interesting is like. THAT REALLY PISSES BUCK OFF. to him it's an example of Eddie not making an effort to "fit in" with them. Like in a weird way I think he does take it as a kind of rejection, not just of Buck but of like. something that Buck is using to define the cultural norms of the 118 as a group. (Even AFTER the grenade Buck is still at it lol although his tone is definitely a lot more lighthearted)
And like nicknames ARE very effective in terms of how some groups/teams form and reinforce their bonds to each other. Nicknames confer a level of familiarity, informality & intimacy within the group. which is kind of an inverse of how we usually think of referring to people by their given name--in an environment like the 118, where to BUCK at least nicknames are an important part of their subgroup culture, calling him Buck actually affords more, not less, intimacy than calling him "Evan." (Which actually ALSO gets demonstrated to us in 2x01 when Chimney, being fed up with Buck, calls him "Evan" to intentionally irritate him).
So if I were to actually write meta on the whole Tommy not calling him Buck situation, I kind of wonder if it's just playing up the whole "feeling like an outsider/jealous of the 118" dynamic we've seen come up twice now.

something that really pisses me off is this headcanon that ice would have been or was against mav pulling bradley’s papers for the academy.
like i’m sorry but I need some of you to think for a second. this is a man whose jet wash indirectly also led to the accident that resulted in goose’s death and probably carried that guilt for half his life too. this is also the man who was there to watch mav and carole grieve for the brother/husband they lost for YEARS. not to mention he was close to goose as well since they were both at the academy. like he would have wanted to protect bradley just as much as mav did when he made the decision to pull the papers. it’s a dumb moment for both of them but again. 100% they would have both thought they were doing the right thing for bradley.

Domination in Formula 1: A Blessing or A Curse?
When someone not well versed in the world of Formula 1 thinks about the sport, a few things may come to mind: Ferrari, McLaren, Red Bull, Mercedes; Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna. There is a definitive comparison with all of the names I have presented to you - Dominance. Every team or driver listed here has at one time in their existence or life been the leading image of the sport. But someone winning every race is boring, right?
If a team is performing the best, has the best car, the best drivers. Then you would think there would be no competition. This is not always the case. Since 1958 and the start of the Constructors championship we have seen 11 drivers take the title who were not driving for the winning constructor. This begs the question: is it the car that is dominant or the driver? I think both are true. In order to be given a place in the best teams, you need to be the best driver. Ayrton Senna was given the drive in McLaren after proving his worth in the smaller teams, first with Toleman (where he almost won the Monaco Grand Prix until it was controversially stopped early due to adverse weather), then with Lotus. Winning races in a car that should not have been winning anything proved to McLaren team boss Ron Dennis that Senna deserved a chance. Now he is considered by many to be the greatest driver who ever lived. Lewis Hamilton is another example, incidentally also with the team McLaren, though much later. Hamilton showed such promise and speed in lower categories that when given the chance to race alongside reigning 2 time champion Fernando Alonso in 2007 Lewis almost won the title; missing out by 1 point. (Lewis came second, Fernando third. Lewis beat Fernando by means of having more second places, 5 to Fernando's 4. They both won 4 Grand Prix). Almost out of spite, Lewis went on to win the 2008 Championship driving for McLaren, Ferrari won the constructor title that year.
A new fan joining the sport in 2018 seeing Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton winning endless titles may start to root for Verstappen at Red Bull, or Vettel at Ferrari. Building the foundations of your loyalty to a team or driver stems from whether they are winning or not. A driver who is always winning may quickly become the favourite of many fans. Someone who is always winning may start to become a Goliath in everyone's eyes. Then, and only then, will people start to root for the underdogs. It is worth noting that casual fans may support a driver purely based on nationality. If every race saw a different winner, leading to a champion who won marginally with 15 other drivers almost taking the title, the value of the overall championship would diminish. If every driver is constantly in the run to win every race then people would quickly start to forget who wins at all. When someone like Michael Schumacher starts winning championships one after the other with Ferrari, people start to notice. When people start to notice, they begin to become attached to the names and faces they recognise. Now you have fans who are not going to see a Formula 1 race - you have fans who are going to watch Michael Schumacher race in Formula 1. It is worth remembering, Schumacher joined Ferrari in 1996 when the team was very much underperforming. He helped rise them up to start winning in 1999 with a constructors title followed by 5 more as well as 5 consecutive driver titles - all with Schumacher's name on them. Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are the only two people to have won 7 drivers championships each.
I feel compassion to everyone that say Max Verstappen winning nearly every race between 2022 and now (early 2024) is boring and bad for the sport. Even I have said it becomes boring. But you have to admire his dedication and clear ability. He almost never makes a mistake. You don't win 19 out of 22 races on pure luck. Max often found himself winning races in 2022 by 20+ seconds. But if you take him out of the equation his teammate Sergio Perez was not even always second place and, when he was, he was never clear of the field. I think what we currently find ourselves in is a period where a team such as Red Bull have built a car that has the capability to leave the field behind. Then they have put Verstappen behind the wheel and the two mix emphatically. If we had two drivers driving for Red Bull in 2023 who were of Perez's level, the title would have been much more up for grabs. Red Bull, Mercedes and Ferrari would have all been fighting for wins and the title. But Max drove the Red Bull that year, and the rest is history. People tend to forget history. In 1988 McLaren were so dominant that they won every single race except for the Italian Grand Prix (The First Italian Grand Prix held at Monza since the death of Enzo Ferrari the year prior. It was Almost like fate intervened to make the two McLarens retire in that race. Senna through a collision and Prost with engine failure). Senna and Prost were fierce rivals and in that year Prost won 7 races. Senna won 8 races and took the title. If, in 2023, Max had a team mate who could take the race to him, just as Prost took the race to Senna, then maybe we would not be talking about how Max winning every race is boring, rather how the two drivers at Red Bull make for an entertaining season (even if only between those 2 drivers, arguably better than 1 driver).
I think the debate over dominance being good or bad for the sport is a conversation shrouded in immediacy. One fuelled by our generation's brains that are wired for instant gratification. While it may seem bad for the sport now, for reasons stated above I believe that dominance is required in sport. It brings people together. Forms attachments between fans, drivers and teams. Forms legacy and legend. In five years time, in ten years time, in 40 years time - Max Verstappen will be remembered for his absolutely devastating dominance displayed in the years between 2022 and TBC. As of right now, he is leading the 2024 standings and it looks like, save for multiple retirements, he will go on to win this championship too.
