Young Daughter Reader asks JJ, while at the pool, about her scar (from when she was taken). Daughter walks into Jemily room while em is changing and asks Emily about the scar she has from being staked. Daughter reader wonders why she doesn’t have a scar to match her mommies (bc she is to young to understand how scars come to be).
Scars
Jemily x Daughter!Reader
Summary: You had noticed both Emily and JJ’s scars and couldn’t help but ask them about it.
———
The sun shone brightly over the pool, its rays dancing on the water's surface, casting reflections onto the surrounding tiles. Your laughter and splashing filled the air as you enjoyed a bright summer day by the pool. JJ sat at the edge of the pool, her feet dipped in the cool water, watching you swim around with Emily who was holding you to keep you afloat as you couldn’t swim yet.
As you and Emily came towards the edge of the pool, your little legs kicking under the water, JJ couldn’t help but smile. Your hair was clinging to your forehead, and your eyes were sparkling with joy. Reaching for JJ, you were picked up by Emily and placed onto the tiles of the side of the pool. You plopped down next to JJ, water dripping from your small frame.
JJ quickly wrapped a towel around you to keep you warm, you smiled and looked up at JJ in curiosity. You had noticed something while swimming and you wanted to ask her about it. “Mummy, what’s this from?” you asked, your finger gently touching the scar.
JJ’s heart skipped a beat. She glanced at Emily, who was looking right back at her. It was a question she knew would come eventually, but she hadn’t anticipated it so soon. JJ took a deep breath. “It’s just an old owie that Mummy has, but don’t worry, I’m okay!”
Your brows furrowed in confusion. “How you get your owie?”
JJ sat in silence for a second, trying to find the right words to explain something so dark to you while also trying to keep it age-appropriate and not worry you. “Sometimes, people do bad things because they are very unhappy or because they want to hurt others... and a bad guy did a bad thing to Mummy..”
You seemed to ponder this for a moment, your young mind trying to grasp the concept of someone hurting your mummy. “You all better now, Mummy? It still hurt?” Your tone was filled with concern and worry for JJ.
JJ smiled and hugged you tight. “Mummy is all better, I swear. It doesn’t hurt anymore because it’s all healed and better. I don’t want you to worry about it, my love. Mummy is okay, alright?”
———
Later that evening, after a fun-filled day at the pool, you were all back inside. JJ and Emily busied themselves with dinner preparations while you played in the living room. As bedtime approached, you wandered into JJ and Emily’s bedroom, clutching your favourite stuffed animal, Mr Monkey.
Emily was changing into her pyjamas when you entered. Seeing your curious eyes on her scar, Emily looked at you with a small smile. Your gaze moved from the scar to Emily’s face, your expression a mixture of curiosity and concern.
“Mama, you got owie like Mummy?” You asked, pointing to the scar.
Emily smiled gently, sitting on the edge of the bed and pulling you onto her lap. “Yeah, I’ve got an old owie just like Mummy does.”
You looked at the scar, then back at Emily. “Why you and Mama have old owies, but I not have one? I get owies and it not stay like your old owies.”
Emily’s heart ached at the innocence of the question. She wrapped her arms around you, holding you close. “These old owies are called scars and scars happen when our bodies heal after being hurt. When you scrap your knee, you get an owie but it only leaves an owie for a little bit before it goes away completely. Sometimes when you get bad owies, they stay and you get a scar.” Emily pointed to her scar.
You nodded in understanding but a frown was still present on your face. “Why I not matching like you and Mummy?”
Emily kissed your temple, wrapping her arms tighter around you. She didn’t want you to get hurt at all. “You don’t have any because you haven’t been hurt like we were, and we hope you never will be. We want you to always be safe and happy.”
You nodded slowly, your small fingers tracing the edge of Emily’s scar. “I want to be strong like you and Mummy.”
Emily smiled gently, cupping your cheeks and looking you in the eyes, watching the way you copied her eye movements, she always loved how beautiful your eyes were. “You are strong, Y/N. You’re strong and brave and wonderful, and we love you very much.”
JJ had been putting away laundry when she started to listen to the conversation from outside the door. She joined the two of you in the bedroom, sitting on the bed and wrapping her arms around both you and Emily. “You don’t need scars like Mama and I to be strong, N/N,” JJ said softly.
You giggled and nodded, kissing both JJ's and Emily’s cheeks. You held your arms up to try and flex your ‘muscles’. ”I super duper strong!”
JJ let out an exaggerated gasp and poked your little bicep. “Woah! Oh my gosh girl, you’re so strong! Is Uncle Derek teaching you his exercises?”
You nodded, trying to deepen your little high-pitched toddler voice. “We super muscle guys!” You tried to hide the little giggle that slipped from your lips but it was too hard.
You were in fact not muscly, you had tiny arms but your parents weren’t about to stop your fun. Emily laughed and tickled under your arms. “Alright, super muscle lady! You’re so strong, I think you could beat Uncle Derek! He wouldn’t know what hit him.”
You giggled loudly and jumped on the bed before jumping into JJ’s lap. “I luv you, Mama and Mummy!” You smiled and cuddled into them.
JJ smiled brightly and kissed your little cheeks. “We love you more, silly little lady!”
As the night settled in, the three of you lay together, you were safely tucked between your mothers. JJ and Emily shared a silent vow to protect you from the darkness they had faced, focusing on the light you brought into their lives. They would do everything to make sure you never got a scar in the same way they did.

Hey Mars!! Hope you recovering well! I have a request for when you’re feeling better!
Jemily x female reader
Reader is overweight and insecure, also younger than JJ and Emily, kinda insecure to be in a relationship with them. Happy ending please ❤️
Perfectly plump| h&c
*Authors note~ I have missed writing sm so I thought I’d ease back into this with a Drabble that can be quite a subject at this time of year, so this is for all those people like me who suffer*
Trigger warnings~ Weight issues
Tumblr media
Overweight. A term that’s bothered you since a young age, you couldn’t escape it really. You tried to get better, to be what society said you should be, but it led to unhealthy coping mechanisms and a dark spiral path that you were trying to climb back up. All through your training to join the FBI you were taunted on your weight, told to give up as you’d never make it in the field. But thankfully the BAU didn’t think like that, your grades were not exemplary and that’s what they wanted the most, to them your weight doesn’t matter. That is how you met the girls.
Garcia quickly became an ally, a safe haven for you to feel like a normal person. JJ was next to draw you in with her motherly instincts and comforting ways to encourage you to open up more with anyone but Garcia. Emily noticed the problem early on but she knew just how hard it is to let your guard down and was happy to let you open up in your own time. It took some time but eventually you broke down with JJ and Emily as you all ended up sharing a hotel room. The subject of food had your anxiety sky high and you just couldn’t take it anymore. But the women just held you as you cried, group hugging you as they whispered words of comfort and praise to you. Truly, they found you beautiful, inside and out and now was the chance to show you.
That was how you found yourself curled up on Emily’s chest, her slender fingers trailing through your soft locks as JJ ordered you all some food, she guessed asking would upset you more so she used her basic information on you and ordered for you. It was something she was use to doing for Emily when she struggled. When the food arrived you broke down again, the thought and care that went into a small act had you feeling like maybe just maybe it was okay to be your weight. “Em, I don’t wanna get big” you whimpered into her neck.
“You won’t get big pretty girl, you need to eat for us, being in the field is hard enough with plenty of energy” she murmured back looking to her lover for help. If this is how JJ felt with her then she now had a new outlook on just how hard it is. “It’s okay darling, me and Em are gonna eat with you, you can even stay snuggled up on Em here, just eat what you can manage love.” The comforting actions and tones of their voices had you lulling into a safe space where you did eventually eat. That night the women let you snuggle up with them on the bed, now clinging to Emily while JJ rubbed your back. “I love you” you sleepily murmured out causing the older women to smile, “we love you too sweetheart more than you will ever know” they whispered back at the same time.

ooh apologies for the super long ask but here's my controversial cm take (well maybe not controversial here, but in general) the longer i got into the show, the more i disliked reid. like i like the concept of him as a character, especially in the early seasons, but his fandom is so obnoxious and the writers played into that too much imo. like one of the things i like about cm is that there's a cast of characters and no real main character, but it really felt like they were giving reid main character syndrome in those last few seasons. also i feel like most of his fans only like him because he's hot (which imo is debatable but that might just be because i'm a lesbian) and they completely mischaracterize him because of it. wdym spencer reid is a domtop sex god he can't talk to women
also i feel like because reid is a supergenius with an iq of 187, the whole fandom discounts how smart the rest of the team is (except blake and maybe garcia, she gets her flowers). like derek went to college on a scholarship, worked as a cop in chicago, worked the bomb squad, and became an expert in obsessional crimes all before joining the bau and he was only in his early 30s in s1. or emily speaks like five languages, went to yale, worked in counterterrorism, went undercover with doyle, and was only 36 when she joined the team. don't even get me started on how the team underestimates jj's intelligence because she's pretty and she was "only" the media liaison and not a "real" profiler despite the fact that she helped profile them countless times before becoming a profiler. she was literally 27 in the first season and it's implied she had been working for the bau for a few years at that point. the bau is one of the most prestigious units in the entire fbi, and it's insanely impressive that she got such a position at such a young age, but people want to act like she's not smart.
also i commented on what it takes on ao3 (my user is repugaytion) and you asked me what my tumblr is, that was me, hiiii! i did in fact read that entire fic instead of studying for my midterm, but dw i had some time to study beforehand, and i aced the exam. no more prioritizing jemily over studying tho lmao
-🐙
(1) I agree with you! I think he's a fine character, but the fanbase was really loud and the writers just leaned more and more into that without considering the other characters. I also think he's smart, but more so, he's good at memorizing and regurgitating information. He usually isn't the one to make actual connections. He gives facts and it's someone else who puts them together. Also Also other people are so so smart and it's over shadowed by his ability to say numbers quickly. It's so frustrating. Everyone is an expert in something, but the show pretends that he's the only smart one.
(2) I hate when people write Spencer as a sex god or like super hot man in bed because like he's a dweeb ass dweeb and that's what makes him so amazing! he's just this nerdy guy who's sweet because he has no interest in pretending to be something he's not. I think mot of his fandom doesn't actually like him. They think he's hot and then make up whatever they want about him.
(3) hellooooooo! I'm glad you aced your exam haha I was worried!

so i gave jemily a whirl. based on the scene from the first episode with the team playing party games at PG's for her birthday. Emily's here this time, fun ensues.
this was a pretty quick write so mistakes etc are all me. no real spoilers. garvez if you squint because i couldn't help myself.
Spin the bottle.
Penelope was feeling wonderfully buzzed. She couldn’t remember the last time they had all gotten together and shared an evening of drinks and laughs, and on her birthday no less! So much had happened within the last few months, to her as well as her friends and it finally felt as though things were calming down.
Luke had stood, empty wine bottle in hand to assumedly switch it for another bottle from her kitchen.
“Ok my loves, the night is young and so am I.”
Penelope spoke with a grin, holding out a hand to Luke and wiggling her fingers at the bottle in his hand. He tilted the bottle to show her it was empty which earned him an eye roll.
“Just give me the bottle.”
He did, in spite of his suspicion to what she had planned, before moving empty handed to her kitchen to grab another bottle.
She set the bottle down on the table and started making room, shuffling the remnants of their previous game into the bowl. Penelope was fully aware that all eyes were on her but she worked in silence, finally laying the bottle on its side in the middle of the table.
“Time for a new game.”
Amused laughter filled the room, Penelope looked at each of her friends and dared any of them to back out of playing.
“So, as we’re all,”
Penelope paused for a moment to grasp the right term. They were a mixed bunch; a widower, a recent divorcee and victims of failed relationships that didn’t reach past a few months had them all currently in the same boat.
“Sixteen years old?”
If she had anything nearby that wasn’t likely to make more mess in her apartment she would have thrown it at Luke, she instead settled for a glare that he brushed off with a laugh as he rejoined the group.
“Available.” She countered instead, lifting her empty wine glass for Luke to refill before he sat down.
“Penelope, if you wanted to kiss me all you had to do was ask.”
Luke had a grin she just wanted to wipe off his face, he followed it with a wink that had the other women giggling.
“In your dreams, Alvez.”
There was no bite in her words but it earned a chorus of “oooo’s” from Tara, JJ and Emily.
“This is just a bit of fun between friends.”
Dave did not look convinced but remained silent, as if he believed that by saying nothing it reduced his chances of having to spin the bottle.
“So who wants to go first?”
Luke raised his hands with a sheepish smile and shook his head, leaning back in his seat and effectively ruling himself out of the first spin. Dave gave a small nod in his direction and did the same.
“Screw it, i’ll go.”
No one was more surprised than JJ at herself. Her split was Will had been rough, taking more of a toll on her than she had let on to any of the team. Between work, the divorce and the kids this was the first time in god knows how long she felt like she could really let her hair down. So screw it.
Silently hoping it wouldn’t land on Dave; the man had been a father figure to her for well over a decade, JJ spun the bottle.
She downed what was left in her glass whilst she waited for the bottle to stop spinning. In all truth, she hadn’t given much thought about what it would be like to kiss anyone on the team. Having been with Will for as long as she had, and things had been good, great even for a very long time.
Anxiety pooled in the pit of her stomach at the thought of this potentially changing things between her and whoever the bottle stopped in front of. It was just a little fun between friends, thats what Penelope had said. Whoever it was, they would just share a quick peck and go on to laugh about it with the others.
And then the bottle stopped spinning.
In front of Emily.
At least it wasn’t Dave.
Emily was her boss. She had also been one of her best friends for almost two decades. This wouldn’t be weird. It was just a drunken kiss between friends.
No words passed between the two women, Emily was the first to lean in and JJ followed suit. The moment their lips met, JJ closed her eyes instinctually.
Having spent the last sixteen years or so with one person, only kissing that one person, kissing Emily stirred something inside her that she hadn’t felt in a very long time.
There was no timer on the table but when enough time had passed that she deemed appropriate, JJ inched away ever so until she felt Emily’s tongue against the seem of her lips.
Oh.
This was different.
She tasted sweet, it was completely different to kissing Will and JJ found herself drawn further into it. Emily raised a hand to cup her cheek and she wrapped her fingers around her wrist, caressing a thumb across her pulse point that only seemed to get quicker.
It was easy to forget they were in a room with their colleagues, friends; it took someone awkwardly clearing their throat for the pair to return to the present and begrudgingly end their kiss. A chaste peck sealed the deal and they both separated, silently falling back into their seats.
It was Luke that had called attention to the fact that they were quickly swerving towards a pretty heavy make out session in Penelopes living room, a blush creeping up his neck as he tried to avoid the eye contact of either woman when they finally parted.
Silence ensued for a few moments, Dave looked about as awkward as Luke felt and Penelope looked between JJ and Emily as though she wanted to say something but couldn’t quite find the words to do so.
It was Tara who broke the tension, letting out a heavy breath followed by a laugh.
“Well damn.”
That was all it took. Emily and JJ looked at each other before joining in with the laughter, Penelope following suit. Luke gave a nervous chuckle and looked at Dave who looked as though he wasn’t quite sure how he felt.
“Who’s next?”

2 things: that Emily red shirt gifset 🫡 and the shoutout on the Jemily kids I see it gifset ⛲️ there’s no puddle/goo blob emoji that I can find
I swear that gifset is a core memory. Immediately portaled back to those days. I remember clicking on a purged platform bookmark of on of your early works and being scared it was GONE… thank goodness you’re a) still online b) still writing c) on AO3
Also too young to have been chronically online…but the community we somehow found with no centralized hubs was pretty incredible. Kids today have no idea how “easy” they have it. Also the internet is terrifying.
Eek! I can’t believe I’m going to be a mom/parent/haven’t figured out what parental title I want to adopt as a generally masc of center she/they human with sort of traditional gender identity extended family (thoughts?)
Also, sorry everyone. I suddenly feel like I’m spamming your inbox/dashboard but I’m too shy to go off anon.
the jemily of it all oh my goddddd it’s too much. the conversation about seeing emily with kids… literally WHAT was that?!
i remember it making its way around LJ and a few message boards and people were properly losing it. chaos in the streets. what a time. what. a. time.
additionally, so much congratulations, friend. whatever you do decide to go with will be perfect. i’m mama in my house and i was hmm about it at first but it really fits me. can’t see being anything else (and dreading the day i get the bored-to-tears ‘mom’ from one of them). i know other people who go by a nickname of theirs that their kids call them, though. it works for them!
and do not apologize. this is great! i love this!

[I’m replying from my iPad so hopefully I can add all the links I want to without tumblr eating this. I am working with a ticking time bomb right now, but I am too impatient to wait to reply when I get home and have the laptop!]
OH GOD MY PAL, YOU HAVE ASKED ME SUCH A GREAT QUESTION WHICH I HAVE SO MANY EMOTIONS ABOUT!!! Might as well make a master post of all the MomEm content!!!!
First of all, Henry, Lottie and Shelly (Jemily’s kids in my deep lore) all call her MomEm. That’s something Henry started calling her when he was young and it stuck as her name for all the kids.
JJ already had Henry when she and Emily got together. But then they have a second child via sperm donor, JJ carries baby Charlotte bc it turned out that due to her abortion and the damage done by Doyle, Emily couldn’t conceive.
Shelly, their eldest daughter was adopted by them after they learned of her home life. She’s just as much their child as Henry and Lottie and they love her so fucking much.
I’m sure there’s probably more MomEm stuff in my archives but this should keep you busy for a bit!! <3

a comprehensive list of songs im annoyed they never used in criminal minds because their emotional impact might have killed me and/or songs and the scenes i wish we’d had pt 1:
*yes i’m aware some of these songs have since been released since cm finished filming (perhaps they’ll use them in s16+ but im not betting on it. i don’t care.
1. Knocking on Heaven’s Door by Raign.
mama take this badge from me, i can’t use it anymore... mama put my guns in the ground, i can’t shoot them anymore... feels like i’m knocking on heavens door.
Think around season 13. I see this as a team scene, perhaps when someone (preferrably JJ or Emily let’s be honest) has been captured/taken hostage/kidnapped, and they’re close to death after being beaten. The vibe is very 200. It’s a slow motion scene, when the music quietens and slows, when we see the team barge in, in the background. The captured character, lets say JJ, is close to unconsciousness and in focus in the frame, while everyone else is blurred in the background. We see, but don’t hear, Emily scream for medical as Reid kneels at JJ’s side. Luke checks her over, then scoops her up in his arms. She’s hurt, weak, but safe. This is my favourite one.
2. Youth by Daughter.
most of us are breathing through corrupted lungs... setting fire to our insides for fun... one day we’ll reveal the truth, that one will die before he gets there... it was a flood that wrecked this home...
It could be anywhere in the middle of the series, but the scene takes place in the BAU. A scene like the one in Mosley Lane, where the children are reunited with their families. The camera pans from one team member to the next as we see their reactions; they’re happy, but heavy. They know that, for every day like this one, there are ten that don’t end well. Emily and Morgan exchange glances with each other, knowing that nobody quite understands the way the rest of the team does. JJ passes them, folder in hand, on her way to Hotch’s office. They have more work to do. The rest of the team follow her up the stairs and into the round table room, as we see the reunited families hugging their loved ones.
3. Neverland by Zendaya
we can sail away tonight on a sea of pure moonlight... we'll be young, that's how we'll stay... picture a land you'll never have seen where life is eternal and evergreen future of happiness all in your hands, all in this place I created that I call Neverland
Not a happy ending, like the one above. The team at a funeral, I see it as the funeral of a little girl they couldn’t save, perhaps. They’re there to pay their respects. Of course, it’s a voice over scene, probably Hotch speaking. The camera pans across them, standing in a line, perhaps back from the rest of the congregation. All of them in black, all of them in sunglasses. I’m picturing Reid with his crutches, so somewhere at the beginning of s5.
4. Already Gone by Sleeping at Last
all our memories, they’re haunted... we were always meant to say goodbye...
looking at you makes it harder, but i know that you’ll find another... started with the perfect kiss, then we could feel the poison set in....
One for my shipper heart. Could be Jemily, Hotchniss, anyone. But it doesn’t work out. If Criminal Minds were Grey’s is the vibe of this one.  Alternatively, could have been used either when JJ left the team, or when they thought Emily was ‘dead’.
5. Girls by Cardi B, etc.
you know i tamed it, and then I named it. i put the lion in the cage and then i laid with her all night... red wine, I just wanna kiss girls....
Totally self indulgent, I just wanna see a team night out where this song happens to be playing while the girls are on the dance floor. No further comment, your honour.

Slow Down (Jemily x Reader)
Tumblr media
smut
It was stupid, but you had to do it. You’d run out of your cover to protect a civilian. There had been a chance that the unsub wasn’t even going to shoot at her, but there was also a chance that he would have. She was young and had her whole life ahead of her, so you pushed her out of the way. In doing so, you’d drawn attention to yourself and before anyone on your team could react, he shot you.
“Is the girl okay?” you asked as a member of your team ran over to check on you.
“She’s fine,” Emily answered you. You sat up a little bit and saw that JJ was just staring at you with a look of pure fear in her eyes. You glanced over at Emily and tried to use her to stand up. “No, stay down. They’re bringing over help now.”
I’m fine. Go check on the girl,” you said and Emily nodded at Morgan. He ran over to get the girl into an ambulance, knowing you wouldn’t go until she was taken care of. The bit of waiting had amounted in more blood loss than what made anybody comfortable. “Take JJ to the hospital.”
“Don’t you want one of us with you?” Emily asked and you shook your head.
“She needs you more than I do right now,” you told her. Emily kissed your forehead, gave your hand a squeeze, and then walked over to JJ. The two of them walked off together and you watched them get into an SUV as the ambulance doors were shut.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Quit fidgeting, you’ll tear your stitches,” JJ told you. Emily was signing your hospital release papers and then they’d be able to take you home. Your room was clear across from the nurse’s station, where a nurse was helping Emily with the forms.
“I can’t help it, I’ve been here for so long. I want to go home.” JJ turned around and gently pushed you back onto the hospital bed. It was easier to keep you still while you were sitting down.
“We have you take you out in the wheelchair,” Emily told you as she wheeled the chair into your room. You hopped off of the bed, not noticing JJ’s little wince when you did, and sat down in your chair. JJ had your go bag slung over her shoulder as she walked next to Emily, who wheeled you out.
“Can we stop and get something to eat on the way to the airport?” you asked, glancing back at your girlfriends.
“Yes, we will stop to get something to eat,” Emily promised you. You smiled and once you were out of the hospital, you got out of the wheelchair and walked over to the SUV that had to be yours. “Y/n!”
“Slow down!” JJ yelled at you as she chased you down. “You’re gonna rip your stitches moving like that.”
“Sorry, I’m excited to go home,” you said innocently.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Shit,” you swore as you noticed one of your stitches had come loose. JJ was going to kill you. She had let you come work out with her on the condition that you didn’t do anything that would rip a stitch.
The past two weeks had been hard around the house, especially between you and JJ. Both her and Emily had been giving you the benefit of the doubt, but you knew that they wanted to confront you about what happened. The fact that you’d been trying to come back ahead of schedule was not helping one bit. All you had to do was make it to the end of the week, get your stitches out, and hopefully your girlfriends would be a bit more relaxed around you.
“Y/n, are you okay in there?” JJ’s voice cut through the door. You fixed the stitch the best you could, wrapped a new bandage over it, and then stepped out of the bathroom. “What were you doing?”
“Changing my bandage, it was sweaty,” you told her. “Sorry, if I worried you for taking too long.”
“It’s, uh, fine. I just wanted to make sure you didn’t rip a stitch or anything,” JJ said and you gave her a small smile. “I ordered you a smoothie, come on.”
“Remember, we have to stop by the café and get Em a coffee,” you reminded JJ. The two of you picked up your smoothies, then JJ ran over to the café to get Emily’s coffee while you walked out to the car.
“You’re covering your side again. Are you sure that you didn’t do too much?” JJ asked you.
“JJ, I’m fine. Just wrapped a little too tightly,” you said through grit teeth. JJ muttered something under her breath as she started the car and the two of you just didn’t talk for the rest of the drive into work.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I am a free woman!” You jumped around the parking garage excitedly. Emily sighed as she tugged your arm to move you towards the car. JJ had opted for not coming to the appointment today since there wasn’t anything new happening. It was just a confirmation that you were cleared to go back to work and live your life as normal. There’d be some pain and discomfort for a little while longer, but that was expected.
“Calm down. I’m pretty sure that this just means JJ’s not going to be afraid about yelling at you,” Emily told you.
“Why would JJ yell at me?” you asked and Emily sighed. You kept trying to think of reasons why or what you could have done to upset JJ, but came up with nothing. Sure, you could be a bit reckless sometimes, but you’d never do something that put someone else’s life in danger.
JJ was still at work whenever the two of you got home, so you sat on the couch and had a glass of wine with Emily. You didn’t really like wine, but Emily had found one that you could drink without complaining. It was nice to have that quiet moment with Emily, especially since JJ had been kind of tense since you’d gotten out of the hospital. You had sort of hoped that JJ would have relaxed more when she got home, but she hadn’t.
“Hey, do you know if Hotch looked at the email for my field clearance?” you asked as you got off the couch. You were getting up to give JJ a kiss, but tripped over something on your way there and she just barely caught you.
“You can’t walk across the living room, I don’t think he’s gonna clear you so easily,” Emily said and you scoffed.
“I tripped over a sock that I dropped when I carried laundry upstairs. I think I can clear the obstacle course,” you said and JJ sighed loudly. “Something wrong?”
“Yeah, there’s a lot wrong actually. You haven’t fucking learned anything. You’re always going a million miles an hour that you don’t stop to think about what you’re doing. You got shot because you couldn’t slow yourself down long enough to realize how much danger you were putting yourself in. It’s a miracle that you didn’t rip yourself wide open again trying to prove how recovered you were. You’re a hazard to have on the field because you don’t slow down long enough to think about your wellbeing, so Emily and I have to!” JJ yelled at you. You shrunk back into yourself a bit as you glanced between her and Emily. Never in your relationship had JJ yelled at you before and you didn’t know what to do.
“I’m gonna go.” You turned around and looked for the jacket that you’d worn out. JJ walked into the kitchen and once she was gone, Emily pulled you onto the couch with her again. “Em, it’s just a walk. Don’t worry, I won’t get myself shot.”
“You didn’t listen. It’s hell knowing that you could do something impulsive and we could lose you because you couldn’t think twice about what you were doing. You’re so free and that’s amazing, it’s part of why it was so easy for the two of us to fall in love with you, but it’s terrifying Y/n. Come on, I think you and JJ need to talk,” Emily said and you nodded. You let her lead you into the kitchen. JJ was leaning against the counter with her head down against her arms. “Jayje.”
“I know Emily, I shouldn’t yell at her,” JJ replied without looking up. You heard a sniffle and your heart broke at the idea that you’d made JJ cry.
“Jayje, please look at me,” Emily said and JJ stood up. She looked at Emily and then her eyes moved to where you were standing behind Emily. “I think that both of you are frustrated and instead of taking it out on each other by yelling or running away from it, I think we need to all talk.”
“You’re selfless to a fault,” JJ told you as she took a step towards you.
“What do you mean?” you asked and JJ grabbed onto your hands.
“You don’t think about yourself. If you can protect someone else or help them, you will. That’s amazing, but when you don’t think about yourself, you don’t think about us and how much you mean to us. You think that you don’t matter as much as other people, but that’s not true. Nobody matters more than you and Emily to me.” JJ brushed a piece of hair out of your face and for the first time that night, you were able to look her in the eyes. “Don’t stop being selfless. Don’t stop being yourself. Just please, slow down.”
“Slow down. I think I can do that, for you guys,” you said and JJ smiled at you. She kissed you and when she was done, Emily pulled you into her arms for a hug.
“We love you, too much to let you get yourself killed,” Emily told you. You felt Emily’s lips press a kiss to your neck and without realizing it, you moaned a little. When you lifted your head, both Emily and JJ had the same look on their faces. “It’s been a long time.”
“I think you need an example of what it means to slow down,” JJ said as she took your hand.
“I really think I do,” you agreed. JJ and Emily walked you to the bedroom and straight over to the bed. Emily sat behind you, rubbing your shoulders and kissing your neck as JJ sat beside you. The way that JJ was kissing you was more gentle than anything else you’d experienced before.
Emily turned your head so that she could also kiss you and JJ started on undressing you. Since you had gone into that morning, you were still wearing your more formal work attire. JJ start unbuttoning your shirt from the top down. Emily’s hands moved around to help her, going up from the bottom. Their hands met and JJ’s hands moved onto your sides while Emily pulled your shirt off from your shoulders.
Emily leaned your body back against hers so that JJ could lean in over your lap easier. JJ pressed kisses across your clavicle and then started down your chest. Emily’s hands moved behind your back to unhook your bra as JJ just kept trailing kisses down your torso. JJ pressed a kiss to the scar that was forming where you’d been most recently shot. Once JJ had moved on past that, Emily brought her hands around so that she could tease your nipples.
“If things get to be too much, tell us,” JJ said as she unbuckled your belt.
“I will,” you promised. JJ popped open the button on your pants and then bit the zipper to tug it down with her teeth. Your mouth went a little dry at that action. Emily leaned down to kiss you as JJ pulled your pants down your legs.
You were left laying in between them in just your underwear. They felt simple to you, a light blue cotton with a white lace trim. Emily leaned over you and trailed her hand down your torso until her fingers were just over the front of your underwear. JJ was marking a trail along the inside of your thigh. Just as JJ’s head came close enough, Emily tangled her fingers in the blonde hair and held JJ’s face against you.
You gasped at the feeling of JJ’s tongue pressing against you. She moved slowly, almost to the point where it was driving you crazy. Emily sensed that you were getting antsy and released JJ’s head. JJ glanced up at you as she hooked her finger into your underwear and pulled down. Your hips lurched forward in a futile attempt to feel the press of her finger against you once more.
“Stay,” Emily told you as she draped her arm across your shoulders to keep you still. JJ resumed her position in between your legs once more and slowly ran her tongue through your folds. You threw your head back against Emily, moaning loudly as JJ picked up her pace a little bit.
You had to have been dripping by the time that JJ finally decided to push her fingers inside of you. She had started off with two at a slow pace. You could feel her pushing them up and moving in a “come hither” motion inside of you. Your body wanted to twist and turn so badly, but you kept yourself still. It was easier with Emily holding you in place, but once she shifted her body a bit and moved her hand in between your legs, you were a goner.
“Fuck,” Emily swore as she felt how wet you were. JJ and Emily shared a look that you barely caught before you squeezed your eyes shut. Emily and JJ’s movements fell perfectly into sync and that was when your body decided that it had hit its limit. Emily’s hand moved away from your clit to hold your body against hers as JJ’s fingers rocked back and forth inside of you slowly.
Emily was whispering reassurances to you, but you couldn’t focus on her words. Not with how JJ was dragging out your orgasm. Emily moved her hand onto JJ’s wrist to stop her whenever she deemed that your body had been through enough. JJ moved out from in between your legs and sat beside Emily. JJ ran her hands through your hair as Emily played with your fingers until you had fallen asleep with them watching over you.
the holidate
summary: emily and jennifer pair up to be platonic dates for Christmas and New Year’s. little did they know, real feelings would be caught along the way.
pairing: emily prentiss x jennifer jareau (jemily)
word count: 4.9k
☆。*。☆。
Sitting by the bar, Emily took a sip of her second drink of the night. It was nearing Christmas, and the bar was filling up with lonely singles and a few happy couples. At this time in the night, the bar usually would be packed. Now that it was the holiday season, there was less of a turnout. The noirette had been here for a little while, an hour at most, and was drinking her dread away. She hoped to avoid the questions to come at the upcoming family gathering. Every year, on her vacation to her mother’s mansion, all of her extended family members asked Emily one of the following questions:
“Do you have a boyfriend?”
“How’s your career going?”
“What’s it like working in London?”
As she thought about visiting them, Emily sat her head down on the countertop. She had been dreading the visit for weeks. Her family could be a bit much, intense one might call it. There were always arguments between the conservative uncles. Endless gossiping amongst the aunts. Even her grandmother would take her time picking apart all of Emily’s flaws. Never once had there been a quiet holiday without someone (usually Emily) creating chaos, dampening everyone’s festive mood.
Several minutes had passed, her head hanging low from stress, and Emily felt a warm presence standing beside her, leaning against the bar casually. This stranger was able to find a spot due to the bar being at fifty percent capacity. Usually, one would not be able to find a spot to sit down at.
Turning her head at a slight angle, out of the corner of her deep russet eyes, Emily saw the most beautiful woman that she had seen in her entire life. Dressed in a long-sleeved, baby blue mid-length dress with a pair of velvet thigh-high boots, with a black wool peacoat, a petite blonde smiled softly at Emily.
“Drinking your sorrows away tonight?” The blonde said while softly smirking and gesturing at the red lipstick-lined glass. Emily chuckled.
“Sorry. I just hate going back home for the holidays.” Emily sat up from her previous position, gazing into her almost empty drink.
“Don’t worry. I feel the same way. By the way, I’m Jennifer,” the blonde held out her hand, “but my friends call me JJ.”
“Emily.” The women shook hands then JJ took the seat next to the slouching woman. The stranger called over the bartender and ordered a blood orange cosmopolitan.
“A Cosmo. Fancy, aren’t we?” Emily asked with a hint of a teasing tone.
“Liking a fruity cocktail doesn’t hurt anyone.” The bartender hand over JJ her drink and she took a few sips to get the evening going.
Emily shrugged her shoulders and took a long sip of her drink. Indie Christmas music played in the background as the two women sat in silence.
“So… what’s the family like?” JJ decided to start some small talk. What else was there to do at a pub on a Tuesday evening?
“You know… the typical family from the Capitol. A high-powered mother who’s career-driven, a sprinkle of conservative uncles who care about traditions, a dash of gossiping aunts who only cared about themselves, and the cousins whom you haven’t talked to in years. And the crazy grandmother who’s funeral is right around the corner. Then there’s the dead beat dad. And finally, the lonely and depressed single woman who wants to bring someone home for the holidays so then she won’t get pestered by the family with questions. Hint: that one’s me,” Emily shook her head at herself for spilling out the truth of the Prentiss family. “I can only do so much to tolerate them.”
Emily took another sip of her drink.
“Sorry for spilling my guts out. Holidays can be tough, am I right?”  JJ chuckled softly and passively waved her hand, understanding where Emily came from. JJ’s home life hadn’t been the best. Her sister died. Her parents divorced. The perfect brew for a lonely middle-aged woman.
“Don’t worry about it,” JJ gently laughed. “I didn’t travel back home for Christmas this year because my mother and I aren’t on speaking terms.”
“Ah…I’m sorry about that.” Emily understood what it was like not having a caring mother. It was difficult to handle, but both Emily and JJ made it through in their own circumstances.
A shared emotion loomed over the pair: the experience of being lonely during the holidays. JJ felt something stir in her heart. Perhaps a sign telling her to go with her instincts. Maybe something new could be starting between them? JJ furrowed her brow, brainstorming ideas to spend more time with the not-so-strange stranger next to her. The gears turned in her mind. She had to take this opportunity, or else it would slip away — to be forgotten forever.
“You know… I do need a partner for a New Year’s Eve party that I got invited to.” JJ said nonchalantly. The blonde was interested in this Emily character. She had to think of a way to see her again.
Emily raised her eyebrows and did her crooked smile.
“I can take you to the party if I get to take you as my friend-date to a Christmas gala that my family attends every year,” Emily countered, “It gets super lonely when you’re the only single, middle-aged woman there.” The brunette set down her third and final drink down for the night.
“Platonic? As in two strangers getting together as friends? During the holiday season?” JJ said, lifting her perfectly coiffed left eyebrow.
“That’s what I’m proposing.” JJ twiddled with her rings nervously underneath the countertop. She did not want Emily to see how anxious she got.
Emily took some time to think about the situation she was getting herself into.
“So… we agree that we are going to be each other’s holiday dates, as friends?” JJ asked Emily as she took a small black booklet and a pen out of her purse. Emily hummed as she sipped her drink, signifying a “yes.”
Writing her phone number down in light blue ink, JJ said, “I guess you can call me ‘babe’ for the weekend.” JJ winked at Emily when she looked up from her mini notebook.
A slight peachy blush formed on Emily’s chiseled cheekbones. The blonde ripped the piece of paper from her little notebook, folded it into a neat square, and placed it in the hands of a blushing Emily. JJ noticed the blush and tried her best to not stare at the gorgeous woman in front of her.
Placing some money as a tip for the bartender, JJ gestured “call me soon” at Emily, leaving the woman sitting by the bar flustered, wondering to herself what she had gotten herself into.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
December 23rd. Dread showed on Emily’s face. She gave herself a pep talk before knocking on the wooden door with the polished brass door knocker. Already regretting her decision, Emily knotted her scarf for the second time to keep the chill wind from nipping her already rosy nose and cheeks. Wanting to keep warm, Emily took out her zippo lighter and pack of cigarettes. She lit one up as she waited out in the cold. 20 minutes went by and Emily noticed a short dark figure approaching the main door.
Taking her last drag of smoke, the young woman dropped her cigarette and stomped on it to get rid of the evidence from her mother. Just to be safe, Emily popped in a few mints to disguise her breath. Then, the door opened, and behind it was Emily’s mother. Elizabeth Prentiss.
“Hello, mother,” Emily snarled with a hint of disgust.
“Emilia.” Elizabeth had a neutral expression when facing Emily. She opened the door wider, letting her daughter in, along with the frosty winter air of December. As she entered the expertly decorated house, Emily took in the scene of the living room. Her little cousins were chasing each other. The uncles were drinking mulled wine and discussing the current events. The aunts were gossiping and making snide comments about their social circle. As Emily walked past her extended family members, a field of judgy looks followed her. Emily sighed, grudgingly waiting for the influx of questions from her aunts and uncles while putting her coat onto the coat hanger, and headed towards the snack bar. While nibbling on some toasted almonds, Emily felt a looming presence next to her. Without hesitation, Emily looked into her mother’s eyes, saying the words leave me alone silently.
“You’re not still smoking, are you?” Elizabeth inquired.
“Uh… no mother, I’m not still smoking. It was just a smoky Uber.”
“No man wants to marry a smoker.”
Emily rolled her deep umber eyes as she walked away from the one person that she resented all these past years.
“Any time I come home for the holidays, I’m showered in a sea of pity and sad glances,” Emily scoffed in anger. “I mean, why is everyone so suspicious of a happy single woman?”
“We just want the best for you, Emilia.”
“Whatever, mother.” Wanting to stay away from Elizabeth, Emily made her home with the home bar.
 Couldn’t her mother see how disgusted she was at the mention of “man”? Well, how could she even know her, when Elizabeth Prentiss left Emily, only to be taken care of by a nanny. Since Elizabeth was the US ambassador, she put her career first, family second. Emily always felt she was second to her mother’s career. Well, at least her mother was okay with her being a lesbian. Emily would not say the same for some of the extended family.
Not wanting to get too hung up on her problems, Emily lent out her helping hands to set up the dinner, to be attended by all of her aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandmother. Since Emily’s grandmother was the eldest in the family, she was seated at the head of the table. The setting had to be up to the Prentiss standard: skillfully decorated with garlands, candles, dinnerware, and neatly-folded napkins. The main dish was placed in the center to showcase the work put into it. After everything got set up, everyone gathered around to start fueling up their famished selves.
Not even ten minutes passed before one of Emily’s aunts asked her the dreaded question.
“So, Emily. How are your romantic endeavors going? Found a man yet?”
The thirty-year-old gritted her teeth in frustration. This was the exact conversation that she wanted to avoid. Most of the family acknowledge the fact that Emily Prentiss was in fact, a lesbian. However, they would rather keep quiet about it to remain perfect to their elitist friends.
“I’m dating here and there. Sometimes it does take a while to find the right man for you,” Emily lied through her teeth. She hated doing this every holiday season. Making up lies just to satisfy a person whom Emily only sees on holidays. Emily resented playing the role of “ambassador’s perfect daughter”. She always had ever since her teenage rebellion years.
At her aunt's satisfied expression, Emily felt like she dodged a bullet. She did not feel like starting up an argument or an intervention. She only said that to please her aunt and everyone else. She had learned to say such things to avoid controversy, learning from her teenage rebellion that it never ended well for Emily.
The rest of the dinner went on without an uproar, everyone eating and talking with pleasantries.
Sometime after, the family was sitting around the large living, the fireplace crackling and its warmth filling the room, altogether creating a sense of hygge. One of Emily’s cousins stood up, clearing his throat.
“Could I have everyone’s attention?” Jake Prentiss — an insufferable lawyer that Emily never really got along with — nervously called out. “I have something to say.” Everyone in the room became quiet and gave the spotlight to the man in the middle.
He gently grabbed his girlfriend’s hand, making them stand in the center of the room. Emily mouthed a fuck no underneath her breath, standing underneath the kitchen archway in shock.
“Claire Alexandria Scott, I know it’s only been four months and 8 amazing days,” Jake dropped down on one knee and he took out a small black box, opening it to reveal an engagement ring. “Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?”
The whole family cheered in joyous remarks, as the girlfriend-turned-fiancée accepted the proposal and had the ring put on her. Emily groaned at the scene, zipping up her new jacket, hiding her face in the hood. She felt like hiding away in a closet, never to be seen again.
Frustration boiled within Emily. Why couldn’t she find someone to be happy with? Was the universe playing games with her? Emily always felt that life was a cruel witch, waiting to cast a spell to mess with her. However, this year, Emily felt something different. It was like life was giving her a chance. A chance at love. To be happy, free, in love. Does God want me to be with JJ from the bar? I knew that I felt something when I first saw her. Emily snapped from her thoughts, poured some more wine, and left the joyous celebration that was happening in the family room.
Later that night, in her townhouse, Emily laid awake on her bed. She could not sleep as she had a lot on her mind. Grabbing her robe and phone, Emily quietly tiptoed downstairs and entered the kitchen. Usually, when Emily was stressed, she baked. It was the quietness she appreciated as the cookies cooked in the oven. But, her mind was filled too much with anxiety and stress from the holidays, so the brunette chose a simple task.
Few events had happened that day, and everyone expected Emily to find a man and settle down, now that she’s the only one left single and the youngest of those who grew up with Emily. However, Emily usually was not the type to just settle down, even less so with a man. Many thoughts and emotions went through her mind as the young woman silently worked around the kitchen to make a warm beverage to calm her mind.
Twenty-seven minutes went by and Emily checked the kitchen clock. 3:39 AM brightly lit against the darkness. Sitting by the bay window, Emily stared at the winter scenery, sipping on a hot toddy while watching the snow gently coating the evergreen pines. Her mind filled with thoughts. I wonder what would happen if I called her. Would she say no? Oh God, what if after meeting at the bar, she revoked the offer?
Emily worried about being questioned by few family members tomorrow, or worse, being rejected by the one woman she had momentarily shown interest in. The middle-aged woman bit her lips in nervousness. Hoping that she felt the same, Emily unlocked her phone with her thumb and opened the messages app. Her phone teased her with the blinking cursor on the brightly lit screen.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Christmas Eve. The family was scrambling around to prepare for the Christmas gala that was supposed to happen that night. The event was to be attended by the A-listers, politicians, anyone of importance. Emily stood in the background of the large family room, sipping on her glass of pinot noir while watching the chaos run amok in front of her. One of the cousins was wrapping presents quickly as a last-minute ditch effort. The children were running around the house, playing tag. Emily’s mother was shouting at people to get ready quickly to take a family photo for her social media accounts.
“Come on, people. We don’t have all day,” Emily’s mother said in an exasperated tone. “All we need is one good picture, then we are good to go for the Christmas gala this evening.” The ambassador tried her best to gather the younger children to the family room.
The gala. That’s all that Elizabeth talked about. Emily was getting tired of it. She rolled her eyes, knowing that her mother only cared about looking good for the public. Since Elizabeth Prentiss was an ambassador, everything was about appearance and being “perfect”. This put a strain on Emily and her mother’s relationship, as Emily had a tough time conforming to what the politicians and other elite people wanted.
She sighed in annoyance. Feeling slightly anxious, Emily bit her nails as she waited for her friend-date to arrive at the Prentiss house. Honestly, Emily could care less if a few family members caused an uproar over the fact that Emily was bringing a woman as a date. They knew of Emily being a lesbian, but they abided by the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. One could say that this was Emily’s gesture to finally say “fuck you” to all the conservatives in her family.
Some time passed and the sound of the doorbell rang. Emily walked over to the main door. She opened the wooden door to greet Jennifer Jareau, all dressed perfectly for the gala.
“Wow, um..” Emily felt lost for words. “You’re….uh… beautiful.” She tried to compose herself. What the hell is wrong with me? This is purely platonic. Why am I feeling butterflies in my stomach?
Emily’s eyes did a quick scan to take in what JJ was wearing: a mid-length black lace dress with a high neck, accompanied by a white faux fur shawl, her golden honey locks perfectly curled and set in place.
“You look beautiful as well.” JJ whispered underneath her breath, closing in the space between her and Prentiss. Deciding to be sneaky, JJ quickly pecked Emily’s right cheek. The taller woman stood under the doorway in shock, trying to rationalize what just happened. Friends do this right? I mean I know in Europe they do.
Emily tried to cool her rosy cheeks down as she let in her friend-date. That’s all that it was. Platonic. No strings attached. Just friends attending an event together.
Elizabeth Prentiss saw from the living room archway what was unfolding at the main doorway. She walked over to her daughter to inquire what her plans for the evening were.
“Who’s this, Emilia?”
“Oh.. um... This is Jennifer. She’s my... date,” Emily said. “She’s my plus one for the gala.” A few of Emily’s uncles and aunts huffed and turned their heads away in disapproval. A few of her cousins smiled and silently congratulated her. Clearly, they were eavesdropping on what was happening at the front door.
Elizabeth squinted her eyes at her daughter.
“That’s okay with me,” Elizabeth turned to JJ, handing her phone to the blonde. “Can you take a photo of the family before we all head over to the gala?”
“Uh sure.” JJ took the ambassador’s phone and took a position in front of the Prentiss family. Emily stood in her stance awkwardly, wishing that this predicament had not happened in the first place. After a few quick snaps, JJ took the pictures and handed the phone back to Elizabeth.
“Blurry. Boring. Nope. Nope. Nope,” Emily’s mother said as she swiped through the photos JJ took of the family, also commenting on the “style” the blonde took them in. JJ stood there. She felt like she was being lectured by a school teacher.
“Okay, none of these will do. We will try again tomorrow.” JJ made a neutral expression, almost in disbelief that Emily’s mother would treat her like that. But then again, Emily had told JJ that her mother was like this. Nitpicky, wanting everything to be precise. To be perfect.
After the photoshoot, everyone quickly headed out to their cars parked outside. JJ rode in an Uber with Emily to their destination. During their ride to the event, the two women talked. Oh, how they talked like they were friends from long ago. They stopped talking only when they arrived at their destination.
JJ walked down the white marble steps of the venue. Jazz music could be heard all around the place. Christmas decorations neatly brought the whole ambiance together.
“Wow!” JJ was in shock at the number of people on the floor, mingling and drinking.
“I know it’s a lot… Don’t worry, I got your back.” Emily took JJ from the top of the stairs and straight up to the open bar.
Emily ordered a vodka soda while JJ ordered a Moscow mule. They laughed when they realized they both ordered something with vodka, just in two different flavors. After grabbing their drinks, both the women socialized with the other people at the gala — or rather Emily did, while JJ, who did not grow up in the eyes of politics, watched the scene. JJ stood there, smiling at the woman in her sight. She couldn’t tell if it was because of the alcohol or her own feelings, but JJ felt at peace for the first time in a long time. She felt whole. Complete. Loved.
As she watched Emily Prentiss play the role of ambassador’s daughter, JJ felt a fluttering motion in her heart. It was like the universe was telling JJ that Emily was the one for her. No more second chances. She is the one. And for once, JJ was willing to listen to her heart when it came to this matter. After her four-year relationship with her previous boyfriend, William LaMontagne, ended two years ago, JJ felt she had nothing in the world. A few months after the break-up, the events of her sister’s death and her parents’ divorce unfolded. All of it caused JJ to feel nothing for the next two years. All she focused on was her career. Until that fateful day, at the bar, when she met Emily.
When JJ entered through those wooden doors of the pub, her eyes first laid on Emily sitting by the bar countertop. Her heart fluttered a little, but JJ ignored it, feeling she wasn’t ready to go into a relationship. But, as she got to know Emily more, JJ slowly but surely fell in love with the brunette. It was definitely love at first sight. JJ was not the type to believe in concepts like that. But she was sure about her feelings for the brunette.
The blonde, from afar, stared at Emily working her magic to engage the conversation with her mother and a group of elderly men. All of a sudden, Emily’s voice could be heard loud and clear.
“I’m sorry. You don’t think gay people deserve rights?” Emily questioned while crossing her arms across her chest in anger.
“Well… Just so you know, you are speaking to the lesbian daughter of US ambassador Elizabeth Prentiss. And there’s nothing you can do about it. Yes, I am not the ‘perfect’ daughter, but who cares! Perfect is meaningless in this world. It’s subjective. And I am not sorry for who I am.” Emily stood her ground and walked away from the group she was in with her mother. Elizabeth looked absolutely shocked by that speech. After recovering from the initial shock, the ambassador mouthed I’m proud of you at her daughter.
Everyone in the venue watched Emily as she headed toward JJ.
The blonde held out Emily’s drink to hand it over to her. She also poked Emily’s nose, to lighten the mood.
“You okay, Emily?” JJ asked. The taller woman huffed in frustration. Emily felt like she needed space away from the stuffy elitists.
 “Why don’t we get out of here and take a little breather?” JJ offered. Emily nodded her head in agreement and both women took their jackets and walked out through the glass back doors.
They ducked out of the gala quietly. Snowflakes reflected the warm orange lights from the streetlamps. A type of quietness settled between the “couple”. The crisp winter chilled their flushed cheeks, making them sober up a little.
The pair stood in the cold, enjoying the silence. But they knew that this would not last forever, as they would have to go their separate ways once the night ended. Emily and JJ continued their walk around the perimeter of the venue for three hours, just talking about every subject there was to think of. Hobbies. Careers. Art. Music. Hopes. Goals. Dreams. They turned around a corner to arrive back at the gala venue. JJ stopped Emily at the front iron gate.
“Well… tonight’s been fun,” JJ said.
“I agree. This year’s gala was much more bearable having you by my side.” JJ lightly blushed and barely attempted to hide it with her jacket collar. Emily noticed a tinge of color on JJ’s cheeks and softly smiled. The two women had started to fall for each other, twirling around each other like a pair of ivy vines.
Unsure of the time, Emily quickly checked her watch.
“It’s getting late. Want me to drop you off at your place?” Emily offered. JJ smiled happily at the gesture.
“I would love that.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
New Year’s Eve. The music blared from the stereo system. Lights strobed along with the music. Emily and JJ leaned against the stainless steel railing on the balcony, watching the view below. Many drinks were ordered and downed within the one-and-a-half-hour they had been at the party. The slightly drunk women were playing a game where they made up stories about the people dancing below.
“I think the leather-vest-mate’s up now.”  Emily said.
“Oh, okay, he’s an options trader.” JJ pointed at a silver-haired man dancing with his very young date. “Divorced. Two kids at Northwestern. She was his decorator on the new condo, hoping to be wife number three.”
“Very good. Very good,” Emily said, looking at JJ and smiling at her story-making skills.
Both the women turned around and Emily jumped quickly on the scene in front of them.
“Ooh, uh, white satin ruffles. Rented tuxedo. He’s just drenched in sweat. They are definitely getting engaged at midnight.”
“Wow. You’re good.” JJ said.
Emily shrugged at the compliment.
“It’s a gift,” Emily drank some more bubbly champagne, feeling a bit friskier than usual. “By the way, your tits look exceptional in that dress.”
“Thanks. That’s why I bought it.” JJ smiled at the compliment and did a little twirl.
“Overall, you are just beautiful. As always.”
“That’s really sweet of you to notice.” JJ blushed, and she thanked the dark atmosphere of the venue for hiding it. She wouldn’t want her maybe-crush to notice that she was blushing not from the alcohol, but from her burgeoning feelings for the other woman.
Both the women downed their drinks and ordered some more. Once they felt they had enough, the “couple” headed down to the dance floor and had their fun for the night. They danced their feet off. Blew some gigantic bubbles with a long star-shaped bubble wand Beach balls were tossed amongst the crowd. Then the song “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life” came on the speakers. JJ looked towards Emily as the taller woman made way and backed up to provide room for the jump from Dirty Dancing.
Emily smirked and said, “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” JJ grinned as she shook off her heels and Emily threw off her blazer, showing off her lean arm muscle. JJ speed walked over to Emily and as the iconic line went off, Emily caught JJ in her hands, like Patrick Swayze in the film. Several seconds later, Emily’s arms gave out and JJ toppled on top of her.
After escaping the dance floor, both the women nursed their injured heads on a leather loveseat. Shoes were off, splayed across the glass table in front of them. JJ huffed in annoyance after what happened on the dance floor.
“Nobody drops Baby on her head.” Emily crookedly smiled and whispered “sorry”. Both stayed silent as they were becoming inebriated, surrounding themselves with the noise and action. Forty-five minutes passed, and JJ got bored with sitting and moping in pain, rather than having fun on the last day of the year.
“Wanna head up to the roof? We could take a break from the noise.” Emily nodded in agreement.
They left the crowded atmosphere and climbed up to the top of the building. The chill winter breeze cooled down their flushed cheeks. The stars twinkled brighter against the pitch-black sky. The two women watched the glittering lights of Washington, DC. It was time for the countdown.
10
JJ ever so slightly turned her head towards Emily.
9
Out of the corner of her eye, Emily noticed that JJ was looking at her and turned her own head towards her date. There was a certain softness to those baby blue eyes.
8
“I’m glad I get to spend the last seconds of this year with you. You are incredible,” JJ said. Emily blushed a rosy pink, both from the cold and what JJ said.
7
“I could say the same about you.”
6
“I really do hope we get to see each other more in the new year.”
5
“Why is that?”
4
“Because…. Um.” JJ felt nervous telling Emily the reason. She worried that it would ruin what was happening at the moment.
3
“You know what. Fuck it.”
2
JJ grabbed Emily’s face and roughly placed a kiss on her chapped, pink lips.
1
A roar of cheers and a chorus of yelled “Happy New Year!” filled the air as the clock struck midnight. The whole city celebrated. JJ took a deep breath as she parted from Emily’s lips.
“Happy New Year, Emily.”
Emily looked at the gleaming girl in front of her and said, “Happy New Year, JJ.”
Chapter One, Chapter Two
Sunlight streamed into the warm bedroom as Jennifer Jareau awoke and blinked against the brightness. She yawned and stretched, her body wrapped in soft white sheets.
JJ rolled over, coming face to face with Emily Prentiss. She smiled at the sight of the woman still asleep, looking peaceful in her slumber. She gently pulled the blankets up and over her girlfriend's bare shoulder.
Checking her watch, she realized that she had woken up before her alarm, and could have slept another half an hour and still had enough time to make it to Quantico with coffee and doughnuts for the team.
Despite the picture perfect moment, JJ didn’t feel well. She did normally wake up before Emily, as she was much more of a morning person, but typically she basked in the half-asleep haze to watch Emily sleep, her eyes tracing every plane of her face. After years of sharing beds with Emily because of cases, JJ had heard more than one complaint about her own sleeping habits, whether it was her incessant kicking or how she would often wake up before dawn to run before they had to go to work.
Nausea and dizziness hit her like a brick, causing her to sit up in the bed and fight back the overpowering desire to gag. JJ tossed back the blankets, leaped out of bed and ran into Emily’s ensuite bathroom.
She barely made it to the toilet in time to throw up what was left of her dinner into the bowl.
She knelt in front of it, her bare knees feeling chilled against the grey tile floor. As she sat back, collapsing into the wall, the nausea abated slightly. She let her head fall back into the wall, her breaths coming in gasps as the world spun.
JJ frowned and racked her brain for what could possibly be wrong with her. She hadn’t drank anything the night before, as the last time she felt this bad had been after drinking an entire bottle of rosé at Penelope’s a few months back.
She flushed and stood up to brush her teeth, but her dizziness hadn’t gone away. JJ swayed when she stood, clutching tightly on the counter to steady herself. Her stomach protested, warning her not to move too quickly, else she would be back in front of the toilet bowl.
The media liaison then pulled her toothbrush out of her toiletries bag and carefully brushed her teeth, working on getting the sour taste out of her mouth. She wondered whether she had eaten something bad the day before. With all the takeout they ordered, no wonder her stomach was upset.
JJ walked back into Emily’s bedroom, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. She still felt off kilter, but the nausea was subsiding.
Emily had sat up in the bed, and looked at her with concern.
“Are you ok, Jayje?” she asked, her eyes bleary but still full of concern. JJ had clearly just woken her up with her activity in the bathroom.
“My stomach’s upset,” JJ explained, rubbing it slightly, her voice coming out with more of a whine to it than she had expected.
Emily frowned, patting the bed and moving over so there was space for JJ to join her in bed. JJ sat down, allowing Emily to pull her in for a hug. She leaned into her girlfriend, basking in the warmth and comfort that a simple touch offered her.
“If you’re not feeling well, why don’t you stay here?” Emily said, “We can’t have you giving the whole team the flu.”
Emily reached up to touch JJ’s forehead with the palm of her hand, checking to see if the blonde had a fever.
“I’ll be fine,” JJ said, batting Emily’s hand away from her face. “You don’t have to worry about me.”
“I will always worry about you, JJ.”
JJ relaxed into Emily’s embrace cuddling back up onto the bed, deciding to get whatever rest she could before her alarm. Emily’s strong arms wrapped around her, and JJ rested her head on Emily’s collarbones.
The older woman stroked JJ’s hair softly. She immediately felt better at the touch, able to focus on pushing away the nausea.
This was all still new. Them. Their relationship. Whatever JJ and Emily were. They had admitted their mutual feelings in a rush of emotion in a hotel room only a few weeks ago. Since, it has been a whirlwind of nights together, secret conversations and stolen glances across the bullpen. They were girlfriends. They had said that, so far. But, beyond that, the details of their relationship were still being established.
With a team of profilers, JJ could only guess that they had already been made, but they still weren’t making it public to the team, just yet. It was nice to have secrets, since they often knew more about JJ than she knew about herself.
Walking JJ from her comfortable, half-asleep state, Emily’s alarm blared out from the clock radio on her side of the bed, an annoying beep that came as a preset on the device.
“Time to get up.” Emily murmured into JJ’s hair, tickling her sides lightly, making JJ squeal and squirm.
“Stop!” JJ gasped, attempting to escape by wriggling around in Emily’s grasp.
She then leapt off the bed and grabbed Emily’s pillow for protection, wielding it like a weapon.
Emily followed suit, standing with a pillow in hand. The two agents were soon engaged in a pillow fight, jumping and running around the room using the soft pillows as weapons, smacking each other on the head before dancing away.
They fought back and forth across the room, each landing a few solid blows on the other, one notably hitting Emily right in the face, messing up her oh-so-perfect bangs.
JJ overcame with giggles as she leaped onto Emily, forcing her down onto the bed with her hands wrapped around the wrists of the taller girl.
They landed with an oof  and JJ pinned her girlfriend by her arms, who looked up at her with a daring look in her eyes. JJ leaned down, closed the distance and kissed her gently.
Emily strained against JJ’s grip, lifting her head up to deepen the kiss. Their lips moved against each other in a comfortable and familiar motion. Emily’s tongue swept between JJ’s lips, and she opened her mouth sliding her tongue against Emily’s.
JJ let go of the other woman’s arms in favour of tangling her fingers through her dark hair, allowing Emily the freedom to hold onto JJ by the waist.
“If we didn’t have to get to work soon, I’d take you here—again—on this bed. Just like I did last night,” Emily whispered between kisses.
“ Please,” JJ gasped, desperate for Emily to keep touching her.
“JJ, it’s already seven,” Emily whined. “We have to go.”
“I’ll be quick,” she said. “I promise.”
“We’re never quick.”
JJ pulled back, sitting up on the bed, still straddling Emily. Smiling down at her, “Fine. You owe me one tonight,” JJ said.
“Deal.”
JJ stepped down onto the hardwood floor, her socked feet padding over to Emily’s closet. She chose a pair of black slacks and a beige sweater off the hook. She relaxed at the fact that between the cuddles and the pillow fight, her stomach had calmed down and her nausea was mostly abated. She could hear Emily stand up and walk up behind her.
“That’s my sweater,” Emily said.
JJ looked down at it inquisitively.
“No it isn’t,” she retorted, “I’ve had this forever. It was in my go bag and hung it up here last night.”
“I lost it forever ago.”
JJ found herself smiling at her own accidental theft. She must have had it for long enough that she thought she owned it in the first place.
“We can’t keep switching clothing,” Emily said, “We work with a bunch of highly trained profilers, they notice things like this for a living.”
“I can’t help it, I love wearing your clothes.”
Emily planted a kiss on her cheek, distracting her as she pulled her sweater out of JJ’s hands.
“Morgan noticed that I was wearing your blue shirt last week,” Emily said, “He’s close to putting the pieces together. I hate lying to him.”
“I know,”  JJ sighed. “I guess I just like having something that’s just ours. For now at least.”
Emily nodded, then handed JJ another shirt— a white button-up that actually did originally belong to the blonde— to put on. JJ grinned at her, but decided she would steal Emily’s Yale sweater to sleep in that night as payback.
A few minutes later, they both left Emily’s apartment in separate cars, still attempting to maintain the façade of ‘just friends’ for the rest of the team. JJ ignored the lingering worries about her upset stomach, knowing that she’d gone to work feeling worse in the past. She once chased an unsub with a high fever and didn’t blink, she could handle an upset stomach. She had work to do.
 ———
After the sun set that day, the March rain had turned to snow. JJ watched it fall on the drive to the motel, swirling around her vision and covering the ground in a patchy blanket. They had flown to Maine that morning to investigate a string of murders of young men in the woods, and they were staying in a tiny motel off the highway.
JJ was fighting the urge to sleep in the passenger seat, as Emily drove along the dark twisty, hilly road. In the back, Spencer Reid was looking out the windows at the forest that surrounded them.
Her stomach was upset, again. A sloshing feeling that made her scrunch her nose up. The speed that the car was taking the turns quickly and the motion wasn’t helping her nausea.
She opened her eyes, almost certain she was about to vomit . She felt exhausted and worn out, despite having a relatively easy workday.
The media in the sleepy town of Ellsworth, Maine weren’t particularly demanding, as all JJ had to do was give a short statement to The Ellsworth American, which was the name of the local paper. The reporter was a relaxed guy, about thirty, with a scruffy beard and tired eyes. After a short phone call and a promise to reveal more information once the case was wrapped up, JJ was mostly done for the day.
Her normal activities of liaising with the local cops went smoothly and she ended up spending most of her time on paperwork and bouncing theories back and forth with Morgan and helping Reid with his geographical profile.
“Are you ok, JJ?” Emily asked, glancing over at her quickly before turning again to make sure that she was watching the road.
JJ placed a hand on her own forehead, trying to quell the motion sickness by the sheer willpower.
“I guess I’m still not feeling well,” JJ confessed with a groan.
“What are your symptoms?” Reid piped up from the back seat.
She wasn’t surprised that this piqued his interest. For a boy without a medical degree, he still lived up to the ‘doctor’ in front of his name.
“I threw up this morning,” JJ admitted. “It’s nothing.”
“And you’re experiencing motion sickness, now?” he asked.
“Yes, doctor,” JJ said sarcastically, still not opening her eyes.
“She doesn’t have a fever yet,” Emily offered, “She probably doesn’t have the flu.”
“And we all ate the same meals today,” Reid mused, “It’s likely not food poisoning.”
“Unless you went rogue and ate something out of the precinct’s vending machine,” Emily quipped, “Who knows how long those have been there.”
JJ shook her head, still not able to open her eyes against the sloshing of her stomach.
She had actually barely eaten anything that day, as the takeout they had ordered hadn’t sounded particularly appetising. She was just trying to make it back to the hotel without asking Emily to pull over.
“Well,” Reid continued, “You could be pregnant.”
JJ didn’t say anything as his words hit her like a brick.
“Early pregnancy symptoms include missed periods, as well as fatigue, smell sensitivity, morning sickness, food aversions, mood swings and… er- breast changes, frequent urination,” he continued. “Not to mention bloating and raised basal body temperature.”
JJ rolled her eyes in his direction, but not before an awkward silence engulfed them. Emily said nothing, waiting for JJ’s response to the suggestion.
She couldn’t be pregnant, she reasoned internally, she hadn’t had sex with a man in ages. Then, a memory flashed across her mind, reminding her that that wasn’t entirely true.
Just about a month ago, before she and Emily had gotten together, she had spent the night with William LaMontagne Jr., the New Orleans cop that she had met on a case months before.
It was February and Will had called her, asking if he could visit. JJ had said yes, because, at the time, she had all but given up on Emily. She had been certain that the profiler didn’t like her back.
She and Will had drunken, mediocre sex that evening after they left the bar. They had used a condom, obviously. There was no chance she was pregnant. Well, if she had said this out loud, she knew Reid would say there was a zero point three percent chance, or something like that.
Was her period late? She tried to do the mental math, but the mental math and her car sickness weren’t producing a satisfying answer.
JJ ran her hands through her hair nervously, laughing off Reid’s words despite her racing thoughts.
“Don’t worry,” JJ said with a laugh, “I think I would know if I were pregnant.”
Even as the words left her mouth, JJ knew she didn’t quite believe them. She did have morning sickness, fatigue and even what could be described as food aversion. She couldn’t tell if the emotions she had felt that day were the normal turmoil of working with serial murders or a symptom of something.
“Or you could be exhausted by working back to back cases and this is your body telling you to slow down,” Reid said, clearly back tracking.
“That’s probably it, Jayje,” Emily said, glancing nervously over at the blonde, who’s hand was rubbing her eyes against the glow of the street lights leading up to the motel.
“Yeah,” JJ said as they pulled into the driveway, sighing in relief as she stumbled out of the car, desperate for some solid ground to calm her stomach.
She wasn’t pregnant. She was just stressed and overworked. They had had a bulk of hard cases this winter and it was taking a toll. Nothing more.
 ———
The case progressed relatively normally. The team built the profile and was able to track down a few suspects off some suspicious elements from their internet presence.
They had narrowed it down to two men, who happened to live on opposite sides of the unsub’s comfort area.  After a stake out, the team finally caught the unsub on his way to revisit the crime scene.
After a long interrogation, they had gotten a full confession.
Leaving the processing to the local brass, the team was on a flight out of Maine that night.
They were seated side by side on the jet, with the table in front of them and a fast-asleep Hotch opposite to them. His head was leaning off to the side, his arms crossed in front of his chest.
JJ curled up on her chair, her legs pulled up onto the seat, her usual blanket tossed over to Emily, as she was feeling uncomfortably hot despite the climate controlled private jet.
“What’s wrong?” Emily whispered, noticing the face JJ was making, “Still nauseous?”
“I’m just tired,” JJ said. “I think it’s hot in here.”
Emily tilted her head slightly, looking back to JJ quizzically.
“It’s not any hotter than normal, JJ,” she said. “You sure you're ok?”
“Maybe I am coming down with something,” JJ admitted. “It is the tail end of flu season.”
“Take the weekend off,” another voice joined their conversation. Hotch lifted his head up and was looking at her with concern. She guessed he wasn’t actually asleep after all, and was glad she and Emily hadn’t been whispering about other things.“We all need a break after these back-to-back cases.”
JJ nodded, knowing that she would still have her cell phone on, and that with her job, there was rarely any time off, but was happy to spend the weekend home instead of in a random hotel room.
The plane landed in Quantico late that night. It was a rainy evening, and they had to walk quickly across the tarmac under a spare umbrella that Emily had tucked away in the carry-on compartment.
Leaving the airport, once again in separate cars, JJ drove over to Emily’s, trying to clear her mind by listening to some music.
They had a system. An unspoken communication that meant that unless someone said otherwise, they would meet at Emily’s apartment once they were home. It was closer to work, not to mention much nicer than JJ’s tiny one-bedroom.
As JJ drove, Reid’s words were repeating themselves in her head. You could be pregnant. JJ bit her lip, trying to focus on the road.
Nausea she could explain away. She had food poisoning, or the flu. Same with her lack of appetite. And the fact that her period was a few days late. The fatigue was from working so hard.
But together? It painted a picture that JJ didn’t want to see. Pregnant? Off a one-night hookup that convinced her that the relationship wouldn’t go anywhere? Impossible. Improbable. Unlikely.
What if she was?
Still, JJ found herself pulling into a gas station just outside of DC. She parked next to the store, taking a deep breath in and out before working up the nerve to go in.
She hopped out of her car and wandered into the shop, blinking at the brightness of the fluorescent lights and grabbing a few snacks before coming up to the shelf on which pregnancy tests were placed. There were two options: one much more expensive than the other. Assuming that it meant it was probably better, she grabbed two of that brand, adding it to the pile of chocolate and bags of cheetos in her arms.
I’m not actually pregnant, JJ assured herself. This is just to be sure.
okay here's some nice jemily thoughts to brighten up your rough day :) sorry this took so long to send, it took me forever to come up with an idea but then i got slightly carried away writing it. also i swear this is happy and cute at the end but it definitely starts off sadder than i intended
jj and emily start dating post-willifer divorce, while both of the kids are still fairly young. henry is 9 and michael is almost 3. they take it slow at first because as much as she likes emily, jj has enough on her plate between the job, being a single parent, and coordinating pick-ups and drop-offs with will, so a relationship is kind of the last thing on her mind. slowly, emily starts coming over to the house more often (jj kept the house and will got an apartment nearby). she comes over for dinner and watches movies with the family in the evenings, and she sometimes helps by making breakfast or doing homework with henry
she's nervous about this relationship. she doesn't want to screw things up with jj, and she often worries that she's not cut out for this. 45 is too old to be getting into a serious relationship, she tells herself, especially because jj has kids and emily thinks she doesn't know the first thing about being a mom. she doesn't want to overstep any boundaries so she never refers to herself as henry and michael's stepmom, especially since the boys are still struggling to adapt to their parents' separation, and she never thinks herself as really being part of the family. in her mind, it's always jj+henry+michael and also emily. it doesn't help that whenever she makes breakfast, michael will say he wants daddy's eggs and whenever she helps with homework, henry will complain that she's making it too hard and jj explains it better
so when mother's day rolls around, emily isn't really expecting anything. she makes a note in her calendar to call her own mother. she's not entirely sure what the protocol is for when you're kind of seriously dating a single mother, so she orders a bouquet of jj's favourite flowers to be delivered on sunday and a locket with her sons' initials engraved. she figures that will and the boys will have something special planned for jj
emily wakes up on mother's day morning with the sun streaming through the windows of jj's bedroom, which is weird because she had her alarm set to get up early, before the sun comes up. she checks the alarm clock, and sure enough, it's been turned off. she could've sworn she turned it on last night, and now she worries that she looks bad for sleeping in on mother's day when she's supposed to be treating jj. as she sits up in bed, the bedroom door comes flying open and two blonde-haired boys come barrelling at her shouting "good morning, emily!". she groans as michael lands right on top of her and henry squeezes her in a hug, but she smiles despite herself. it's really sweet. she looks up to see jj at the bedroom door, smiling at her and holding two mugs off coffee, and emily happily takes one from her
emily still doesn't understand what's going on until henry and michael leave the room almost as fast as they came in. henry comes back carrying a tray with a mile-high stack of chocolate chip pancakes and some bacon and eggs and a glass of orange juice, and michael shoves a piece of paper in her face. the drawing is mostly scribbles, but there's a crude representation of four tiny stick figures, three with blonde hair and one with black hair. henry's handwriting at the top says "happy mother's day!"
emily looks around the room at the breakfast in bed, the drawing of their family, and jj and her boys surrounding her, and she's so filled with love it brings a tear to her eye. it brings her back to a conversation she had with jj ages ago, years before they started dating: "you, kids. i could see it." at the time, emily thought jj was just being nice. she couldn't really see herself as a mom, no matter how badly she wanted it, but now she saw it from jj's perspective. emily sets aside the breakfast tray and pulls her three favourite people into the biggest hug ever. michael wishes her a happy mother's day in his cute little toddler voice, henry says that she's a great stepmom and he's lucky to have two awesome moms in his life when most people only get one, and jj simply kisses her on the forehead and whispers "happy mother's day, my love. you're a part of this family now, don't ever forget that"
-🐙
Stop this made me so emotional (positive!!!)
I love Emily not realizing that little things like kids complaining is part of being a parent and JJ probably hears that Emily does better voices during stories and Will hears that Emily does better at bath time lol She's a mom!!!!
Breaking Down Jemily Subtext By Episode
Part 3/? (3x01-3x04)
3x01 - Doubt
While Spencer was cleaning out the security officer’s locker, JJ and Emily were standing together in the background watching. JJ looked over at Emily, and they shared a moment where they just looked at each other. Almost like they knew exactly what was going on, but neither of them had to say anything to understand that. They communicated through glances.
JJ and Emily were walking through the college campus together. They talked about how everyone looked so young, and that it’s such a “weird age”.
JJ told Emily that she spent all of her college years “trying to figure out who she was”, and she stared at Emily the whole time, looking for her reaction. JJ could have meant a number of things, but it sounded like she was implying that she tried to figure out her sexuality in college.
3x02 - In Name and Blood
In this episode, Emily resigned from the team because Strauss was putting pressure on her to help her get Hotch fired.
Emily didn’t go with the team to Wisconsin, but she showed up later, which was a surprise to everyone.
Emily asked JJ to help her catch up on the case, and the two were very happy to be reunited. Even after Emily sat down with the case file, JJ looked at her for an extra second with a smile on her face.
The unsub was using his son to lure in women, so Emily offered to pose as a random woman and show up at their door, hoping that the child would let her come inside. The unsub discovered her snooping around, and hit her in the head with a plank of wood.
When the team went into the house, instead of going to the victim like the rest of the team, JJ went right up to Emily and asked her if she was okay. JJ put a comforting hand on her arm and offered to call an ambulance for her.
3x03 - Scared to Death
Nothing significant happened.
3x04 - Children of the Dark
This was the case with Carrie, the teenage girl who watched her entire family get killed. Emily got very emotionally invested in the case, and by the end of the episode, was ready to adopt Carrie because she wanted to make sure the girl had a home now that her family was dead.
Because Emily was having such a hard time with this case, JJ was practically glued to her side the entire time to let her know she was there for her. Anywhere Emily was, JJ was too.
JJ wasn’t as attached to Carrie, but she still stayed by her side and did everything in her power to protect the girl because she knew how important it was to Emily.
At the hospital, when Carrie started screaming, JJ ran with Emily to her room. JJ was the first one to get there, and hugged Carrie until she calmed down. You can see it on Emily’s face how calming it was for her to see Carrie safe in JJ’s arms.
Back at the precinct, Emily and Carrie were talking. JJ was in another room, but was shown watching the interaction.
After the case, once the team was on the jet, Emily was clearly hurting. She was sitting alone, in silence, looking out of the window. JJ sat down with her, knowing that something was wrong.
Emily was worried about what would happen to Carrie, but she never said that to JJ. JJ knew what was going through Emily’s mind, and said exactly what she needed to in order to calm her down.
JJ told Emily that she could see her as a mother, and they both got lost in the idea for a moment. You can tell by the look on Emily’s face how much it meant to her to hear that from JJ.
3x04 | 3x13
Emily wore this shirt, and then JJ wore it a few episodes later. The time jump is probably a few months.
JJ was secretly dating Will during this time.
