Thinking about the weird camaraderie that exists between demons but not angels in GO.
Have we ever seen two angels who are actually friends? Or even friendly to one another? We have met angels with a capacity to be friendly in general, but I think the closest we've come to two angels actually getting along would be Gabriel making a point to laugh at Sandalphon's terrible "can't have a war without War" line in S1.
Most scenes between the angels actually seem to have an undercurrent of absolute hostility. Teeth-clenched teamwork. No wonder it took them so long to notice that Aziraphale wasn't on the same page as the rest of them! The rest of them are barely on the same page as one another, either! When Gabriel goes against the majority vote, no one bats an eye at demoting him and wiping his memory. Michael and Uriel immediately begin vying for his job. The only times we've seen angels team up is when they're working together to bully someone else, like when they're trying to intimidate Aziraphale in S1 or going to the aftermath of the bookshop raid in S2.
Saraqael's overall neutrality towards Muriel is the closest we get to two angels in Heaven getting along, and it's more a lack of hostility than any kind of friendliness. At least until Gabriel loses his memories and Muriel shows up to spy on Aziraphale, and Aziraphale decides to be kind to both of them.
Demons, on the other hand, actually seem to form alliances and even friendships among one another. Hastur and Ligur are awful, but Hastur seems genuinely distraught over Ligur's death, not just fearful of suffering the same fate. Shax and Furfur conspire together and even though the 1940's investigation into Crowley's fraternizing doesn't work out for Furfur, it's not due to any double-crossing on Shax's part. Unlike the angels, who stick almost exclusively to making threats until the Metatron decides to try dangling a carrot at the end of the season, demons actually offer rewards to other demons when trying to work together. Beelzebub offers Crowley a promotion if he can bring them Gabriel, Furfur offers to back Shax up politically if she goes for the Duke position opening, and Crowley successfully stalls Hastur in S1 by pretending everything was a test and he's going to be put in charge of a legion as a reward for passing. They're still not great at socializing, but they're significantly ahead of the angels.
Of course, it's a fact that demons are awful to one another (Eric's treatment is really bad, they throw that random demon into holy water just to test it, "it'd be a funny world if demons went around trusting one another", etc) but they still seem more capable of forming friendships than the angels do.
I think that's because Hell cramps and crowds everyone together to try and increase their suffering and hostility, whereas Heaven isolates angels to decrease the odds of questioning or rebellion. Hell's methods are unpleasant, but it still ends up putting demons together, and some of those demons inevitably forge alliances and make friendships. Because as Crowley and Beelzebub demonstrate, demons are still social creatures with the capacity for love and affection, even if it's strongly discouraged and buried under nine million layers of trauma and a cultural mandate against kindness.
Angels are the same, but isolation makes is harder to form connections than overcrowding. Muriel and Jimbriel are both so eager to make friends, but Muriel's spent the past millennia shut in an empty office, and Gabriel has been distanced from his peers both through his position and also through Heaven's culture of fear and surveillance. He only breaks away from it when he finds something that's stronger than "choosing sides" (stronger than the fear of being rejected by Heaven and Falling, in fact strong enough that Falling seems worth it if he gets to be with someone he loves). Both Muriel and Gabriel are only able to start forming connections when they're away from Heaven.
I just think it's interesting that demons, despite being supposedly devoid of love, have an advantage in forming relationships compared to angels. Angels are supposed to love, but have far fewer opportunities to actually do so. Demons aren't supposed to love, but they make connections anyway.

I honestly think we don't appreciate enough how much this whole sequence says in terms of Sera's characterization
Right from the incredibly transparent "wrong kind of elf" phrasing and down to the "let's help him in a way that's consistent with his beliefs so he can live well, but also let him know that being threatened with being ostracized for literally being disabled it shit and offer help there too"

the thing about being a disabled grad student is that if you want even half a chance you constantly have to not only reveal but interrogate and explain your softest most vulnerable parts. while people around you act like this is just completely normal and actually that is not the softest most vulnerable part of you and actually you are exactly the same as all of them. so you feel like you are in disguise as exactlythesame while also completely exposed. and you just have to live like that. absolutely insane

please forgive me if this is just a jumble of nonsensical words - I just woke up, heh - but I really wish more people understood that not everybody in this community only selfships for fun/comfort. that's totally valid to do, of course, but for some of us this is much more serious. and that often ties in to why we can be so uncomfortable sharing. seeing my f/o with someone else literally feels like someone seeing their spouse with another person. because that's what he is to me. of course I'm gonna be uncomfortable seeing it. and it's nothing against the people who ship with him as well - I would never march up to them and say anything about it, they have the right to do whatever they want, too. but I will block them for my own personal comfort.
this is my actual relationship to me as a ficto person, not just something I do for fun... I'm genuinely and unironically in love with him! I know it's silly, and a bit unorthodox, hah, but I wish people could just be a bit more respectful about it. and understand that this isn't something I can control, and it's not me being petty. it just actually hurts sometimes. I'm allowed to curate my own experience online.

The Flashback shows us Chosen and Dark being destructive across the web, but it doesn’t really give any indication of why they did this. This leaves us to come up with probable reasons that might fit. It also leaves us to come up with probable reasons why Chosen changed his tune before Dark.
And there are a lot of those XD but while so many of us talk about why Chosen stopped, and what might’ve changed to motivate his shift, I haven’t seen as many suggesting that…maybe, from the start, they were being destructive for different reasons.

Huh, I didn't even realize it'd been a year since BG3 came out until I opened tumblr this morning. Kinda wild. I didn't think much of the game's release: I like Larian's games, and I like the BG series. I wasn't ever going to skip the game, but I didn't think I'd play it at launch because I was busy working on a novel in 2023 and not doing well financially.
Thankfully, circumstances left me with a little bit of extra money last year just before launch and it meant I could spend on a video game. I needed a pick-me-up after said 2023 novel failed to go anywhere, and BG3 was right there. Like most CRPGs, I played it in basically every moment of free time that I had and did as much as I possibly could in one playthrough.

It's so odd how these small happenstances can snowball into coming back to fandom, finding some friends I might've never met otherwise, and writing a lot of fanfiction along the way. I'll probably have something more interesting to say/share when it's the 14th, AKA when I sat down and wrote my first fic for this fandom.
Anyways, it's been a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to more years to come 💜
#random fandom thoughts#there's a fair few tidbits about that first fic that will be more fun to share on the 14th#but there's some fun facts about the early parts of my first playthrough:#Asheera killed Us because the player thought it was going to be a hostile intellect devourer and didn't want to deal with that at lvl1 lol#It took me several hours to recruit Gale because I didn't want to interact with the glowing portal until I was “ready”#I (the player) sent Barcus flying at first because I have a very silly sense of humor#I did reload that one because Asheera wouldn't BUT I was satisfied#and finally the one that is always entertaining considering how things ended up#I originally thought nothing of Shadowheart and didn't go into the game with any idea about romance or the companions whatsoever#all I noticed about her was that she wore Sharran symbols everywhere but tried to hide her faith#then she tried the most miserable attempt at manipulation I've ever seen in my life (when she tests you about Raphael's deal)#and she exposed herself as the Worst Sharran Possible#then came her confession of her faith and I knew something special was happening#the confession sounds so robotic and prewritten almost like it's from a canned speech she's practiced and rehearsed#and sounds more like regurgitation and being Told what to believe rather than an impassioned plea borne of bone-deep faith#the sudden shift in her tone had me thinking: “this is either atrocious character writing or fantastic characterization”#and lo and behold#anyways if you've read this far then bg3 is a very special thing for me and I love getting to create for the fandom

Seeing all the people online (especially on tiktok) saying "why would rtd expect us to know who sutekh is" and calling it a let down that he's the season finale's big bad because they don't think he's iconic enough is baffling me so much. Like, I'm sure from the perspective of someone who's only watched nuwho sutekh may seem like a weird choice, but sutekh is pretty well loved by classic who fans! Even people who don't really like pyramids of mars think sutekh is really neat!!!
Also I just think him returning makes pyramids of mars better because so much of that story is spent hyping up just how powerful sutekh is, and it's been left somewhat anticlimactic when we haven't seen sutekh onscreen since and seemingly hasn't managed to break out of the trap the doctor put him in. Now he's back (and we have much better special effects) we can hopefully see him fulfill his potential a bit more next episode.
Also also I didnt see nuwho fans complain this much when the Zygons were the villain for the 50th, or when the sea devils were brought back. It seems to be a new phenomenon to see nuwho fans dismiss the classic series so strongly! It's easier to read up on sutekh than ever before- fandom wikis, YouTube reviews, and even the episodes themselves (if you can access them) are a really great starting point if you wanna learn more about next week's villain!!

It's funny how much gravity entering the neutral zone is treated with in TOS when in future series both Humans AND Romulans are taking trips to the neutral zone like it's Old Mister Mcready's house which the neighborhood kids think might be haunted but if you don't sneak in they're gonna call you chicken
