Samuel Seo: the most reserved out of these terrible four. He has appearances to keep up, and cares about propriety... to an extent. But will always keep a hand on your thigh or your ass. A way to claim what is his, if you will. Once he gets you on his own, his hands are roaming.

my own interpretation of underswap:

us! chara:

chara replaces frisk so they're now the 8th fallen child. they retain some key characteristics of their og/ut version though (dislikes humanity, has a soft spot for nicer monsters). i heavily see chara as a sassy, firecracker and trouble making child <3

personally, i think of ut! chara as an entity similar to flowey - they have no soul and can't really "feel" love and compassion. depending on what route you as the player takes, they go along with the ride. their beliefs and goals rely on how much exp/lv you've earned. i think of them as a pretty chill souless kid

us! sans:

im not a fan of infantilizing us! sans (honestly this applies to all "papyrus-types"). like chara, he retains some characteristics of his og version. he likes puns (and loves annoying his younger brother with them), a sciency type, and LOVES greasy food ("sans, for the last time, stop buying grillby's overpriced food"). most noticeable difference with his undertale counterpart is that he's a bit more active & more or less has his shit together a lot more than ut! sans.

you can actually die in his boss fight unlike og papyrus. he's aware of what "capturing humans" entail, & he's not really a fan of the whole killing children thing. but y'know, monsterkind just.. needs one more soul don't they? like og papyrus bossfight, you just need to tire him out before he goes "YOU KNOW WHAT, I CAN'T KILL A KID" & spares you.

(if you die thrice in his bossfight, he'll see your expression & just lets you go. he's unnerved & thinks chara's expression will haunt him for the rest of his life)

he can actually make edible food & is popular with snowdin's residents. he has the qualifications to join the royal guard, he just chooses not to. alphys approves of him and would gladly accept him into the team, but eh - he's content with being an unofficial member.

acquaintances with alphys. you could have considered them friends a.. long time ago, but the past is the past. the best big brother - cares deeply for papyrus and his severe lack of friends. pushes the human to hang out w/ him & papyrus (instead of a date).

us! papyrus:

following the trend of retaining some of the og's traits, papyrus can't cook very well. he's slightly above the category of being capable of burning water. he's talented when it comes to making and constructing puzzles - a great engineer tbh. papyrus still has the racecar bed & has dreams of driving one on the surface.

and for the record, he doesn't smoke - it's a lollipop. he's also anxious and socially awkward - guy's got ZERO friends (okay im exaggerating, he does have at least TWO). nevertheless, he's a loser and i love him; a certified babygirl.

similar to ut's events, paps makes a promise to a man behind the ruins' door to guide the human who passes through, and he intends to keep it. unlike ut! sans who tends to watch over the human from a distance (& occassionally intersects with their journey), papyrus is a bit more involved. he keeps chara company during some sections of snowdin/hotland & likes to keep check on them by calling on the cellphone.

although papyrus is lazier and more easy going than ut! papyrus, he's just as compassionate & kind. during his fight's first phase in genocide, he tries to force the human to give up and rethink their ways. his attacks generally consist of blue attacks - a defense; to push you back. he doesn't like the idea of killing someone (even if that someone happened to be the one who killed your brother and all your friends), but if the human does happen to die - it can't be helped.

if you spare him, you don't get dunked on dw. he'll let you off the fight but doesn't allow you to proceed any further. he'll keep blocking your way — the only way to get past him is to kill him. as a result, his bossfight is a lot easier than ut! sans, but still very difficult. when the second phase happens (you attack him when he spares you), he pulls all stops & tries to full on kill you fr.

on a lighter note, he's bffs with undyne. they construct wild and destructive experiments. BESTIES(tm) IN EVERY UNIVERSE <33

some things I love about my perfect CR (aka the reality I'm going to live soon):

• revised my entire life to my desires; revised my age to 16, and went back to September 2020 from March 2024 (well I guess it's 2020 right now so... I made it so that this year was 2020)

• my skin is never bumpy or pimply, or itchy (this was Hell for me in my past reality)

• my room is big, Baroque-style-fancy + whimsigoth, light blue, and looks a lot like the room in time princess; with lots of pretty furniture, a balcony, a reading nook, two altars for the deities I worship; and a huge gorgeous, gaudy four-poster bed (think princess-like), etc. (I used to have a small, white room that I had to share with other too many other people 🙄 I had to keep my altar in a miniscule cabinet, and only had space for one... my room is now the size of my OR apartment, so I no longer have that problem lol) + decorated with my fave fandom stuff/interests + full of amazingly beautiful furniture

• life like a fun teen movie or slice-of-life anime (in a good way, not the racist, fucked up way... Anyway, I used to barely go outside for fun, and didn't have much money to do stuff, and sure as hell didn't get invited anywhere... still salty about that)

• I never get headaches, stomach aches, cavities, most pains, etc. (I left period cramps cuz I wanna feel human... But yeah in my past CR I was sick and in pain a often, it was almost a personality trait at a certain point 😭 But not anymore!)

• I'm always hygienic and clean no matter what + I have the most perfect skincare and hair care products for me + I always smell like cotton candy and/or caramel (I used to be stinky and had weird shit going on w/ my body... Embarrassing)

• I have lots of Hot, Rich and Intelligent friends who absolutely adore me and listen to me and low-key worship me (let's just say this was very much not the case in my OR; most of my friends were NOT ride-or-dies for me... and most we're hot HRI...)

• homework is extremely easy for me because I just revise/wish it done + extremely high IQ, even though IQ is technically bs (I was only book smart in my OR, and even that started the die w/ age cuz of short attention span) + kid genius to adult genius pipeline

• family is super kind to me and are emotionally intelligent and perfect + spoil me and dote on me endlessly w/ money and affection (my OR family were nice 60% of the time, but were 40% toxic and stingy, which is still too much... 60% is barely a passing grade!)

• gigantic mansion.

• no but like, GIANT MANSION. It's literally something out of a fairytale, it's interesting and magical and full of secrets, lore and history (and, as I've stated before... My room. Is now. The size. Of my. OR apartment.)

• well-behaved younger siblings (they barely exist rn, but they will, and I'm excited to have younger siblings that don't make me want to kms when watching them)

• I was never parentified or had to raise anybody's kids

• immediate family won the lottery so we never run out of money + I have a magical, interdimensional job (it's fun but I won't share any details cuz it's top secret... Just know I make bank)

• really great and talented artist + great at the all the arts, whether sketching, painting, musical, performing, martial, etc. (in my OR I was barely so-so at drawing, and DEFINITELY behind my peers + I didn't know how to fight or play instruments)

• I have a HRI, kind, responsible and brooding bodyguard/personal assistant around my age (he's not in my life yet, but he will be... I shouldn't simp for him, but... 😩)

• now a triplet (I remember seeing a success story where anon manifested being a triplet, so I was like, yeah! I want that, too! I used to be a twin in my OR) + I have good relationship with all of my family

• me and my family are super intelligent + my parental guardians now have their dream jobs and are super educated (one's a lawyer with their own firm and the other is has their own restaurant and is now studying to be an engineer, plus we make a lot from stocks w/ 0 losses)

• me and my siblings have amazing singing voices (amazing range)

• I go to an extremely beautiful, fancy high school (my OR high school was super mid)

• manifested a fancy, wealthy and fun town into existence (used to live in a good but unwalkable town in my OR that is now next to my CR town)

• fancy walk-in closet and my own fancy bathroom (trust me when I say this; your jaw would drop at the beauty, just as pretty as my room)

• full health, whether mental or physical, for my immediate family

Let's look at the facts:

1. Sirius Black was born into a prestigious pure-blood family (all Slytherins) who put a great deal of importance in the purity of blood, very much like Draco Malfoy. That's all he knew most of his life. He likely never spent time with non-pure blood children prior to going to Hogwarts. He had no reason to assume his parents were wrong. He knew no other way of life. Then he met James who spoke of bravery as the most important attribute. We know the Sorting Hat takes personal choice into account, arguably before any actual personality traits. After a single train ride with James, Sirius chose to be in Gryffindor rather than continue his family's tradition.

2. We have no evidence to suggest Sirius was ever romantically involved with anyone. Sirius was good-looking, wealthy, talented, intelligent, and popular. We know girls noticed him from Snape's memory of their 5th year. The books speak of girls looking at him with admiration and imply that Sirius doesn't seem to notice. He had posters of muggle girls hanging in his room to annoy his parents but no pictures of girls he dated. Sirius is aware of himself and of his friends, especially James (I think James knew of his friend's quiet affection and though he may not have had the same romantic feelings, enjoyed being the object of Sirius' attention).

3. We never really hear Sirius speak much about Lily except as James' crush. We know they developed a friendship once Lily & James were wed because of the letter Lily wrote to him. I think Lily also knew how much Sirius loved James and that's what bound them in friendship, the fact that they both were in love with the same man. Sirius often said to Harry "me & your father." Not "our friend group" or "me, your dad, Moony, & Wormtail" or really even "me & your parents." He spoke of "your parents" when they first met but after it was usually "me & your father" the way a widowed mother might say it. Sirius speaks of how Harry looks like James and reminds him of James. He never mentions that he has Lily's eyes.

4. Sirius panicked when he couldnt find Wormtail & there was no sign of a struggle in his hiding place. He went straight to the Potters to make sure they were safe. He found them dead, house destroyed, and Hagrid there rescuing Harry. Sirius was a brave & wreckless youth whose first instinct upon seeing the destruction must have been vengeance but instead he asks Hagrid to give him Harry, the last piece of James left on the earth. Only when Hagrid refuses did Sirius give him the motorcycle to help transport Harry safely and then leave to seek vengeance. I think if he could have found Voldemort, he would have gladly confronted him as well. I think he would have happily died trying to get revenge for James' death. He wanted to kill or be killed or both for the loss of James.

Sirius loved Harry & Lily because James loved Lily and after they died, Harry was all he had left of James. When he broke out of Azkaban to kill Wormtail, he went to Privet Drive to get a look at Harry first and surely saw young James as he gazed at him. He could have announced himself to Harry or tried to help him. He was alone in the dark and only 13, carrying his baggage clearly running away from home. But he just looked and left. He could have attempted some form of communication with Harry while he was at Hogwarts but his focus was not Harry's safety, it was Wormtail's death. Only after Wormtail fled does Sirius finally turn his attention to protecting Harry.

People ship Lupin & Sirius. Maybe Lupin had feelings for Sirius, maybe not. But Sirius loved James comparably to how Snape loved Lily but in a much purer form. Snape loved Lily selfishly but didn't care about the things or people Lily loved until she was dead. He was jealous of those things and wanted them out of the way, hoping Lily would someday be his. He didnt share her beliefs about dark magic or the unimportance of blood status or anything that made her such a surpassingly impressive woman. Sirius loved James and accepted that their friendship was the most of him he'd ever have. But he loved what James loved, believed for what James believed, and fought beside him for the same.

I feel that once he learns to he'll be a gentle love kind of dude, specially to karma, in fear of fucking up and hurting others. (he gets called out about it, even by karma). it is a journey™ and it mostly happens after púlsar but he'd eventually give tough love when necessary (mostly to sadaf. she's a little brat. she's also like 5. some would call it parenting)

as for himself, he's extremely tired of the tough 'love' his father gives him :) also he's already hard enough on himself he could use some gentleness

karma did use to fake a smile a lot when his mom was still alive. he didn't want to worry her about his problems so he told her everything was okay (it wasn't). now he just doesn't have reasons to pretend to be okay or happy anyways so he doesn't even bother :)

I’ve always been someone who struggles with comprehension when I don’t have all the context.

When my friends (s/o to snipey and cam) first pitched the webcomic to me, they gave the option that many people prefer to skip to act 5 where you are introduced to “the grey kids with the candy corn horns”, as anyone on tumblr in 2011- regardless of fandom affiliation- could have recognized.

This suggestion was due to the first couple acts of Homestuck generally being seen by young audiences at the time as dense and irrelevant to the plot, and while I admit I barely followed what was going on tutorial-wise at the time, getting to know each beta kid was and is profoundly important. From page 1 there are themes and symbols echoed to the very end with enormous ripples of influence along the way.

Yesterday on 4/13/23 I read through the first 214 pages, right up to the introduction of Rose, which felt like a good stopping point.*

I am thrilled to declare I could follow nearly everything this time, as I wouldn’t dare claim I catch every single bit of information given out in any given page. That being said every 10 pages or so I had the recurring thought that I am thrilled to be revisiting this as an adult with so much more experience reading all sorts of documents and being exposed to a wide range of fields of study. I’m interested to see how my opinion of John evolves as I remember hating him for a large portion of the years I spent reading updates as they came out. I honestly can’t say what I think of him anymore, but from the introduction alone he’s just a kid and life is a nightmare. So, no harm no foul, yet.

Dave Strider I was an enormous fan of from the get-go back in 2011 and to this very day I ride or die that kid. He’s marred deeply enough in irony that he thinks he can get away with just being real and saying how he really feels and no one can tell.

He loops right back around and ends up being a hilarious, startlingly talented, complex, compassionate and cool genuine individual. It just takes him time to figure that out himself. He also reminds me of someone possessing all those traits as well…someone admittedly more ornery from the compassion he extends…someone who is constantly fighting for his life from infancy as well…someone with the exact same demonizing eye color…hm, guess it’ll come up later.

Rose Lalonde was my favorite character by far back in the day. I am also interested to see where that goes nowadays. I’m one of those people who came out of the 2020 quarantine as a completely different gender/person. ABOUT

 tw parental death :  there were complications during birth - and gregory goyle ended up being born into a world without his mom. his father wasn’t a warm or thoughtful wizard before and he certainly wasn’t after. 

it doesn’t excuse how goyle turned into an angry kid, always looking for someone to pass it onto like he had been taught, but it does give a background. his father is very pro-pureblood movement, always wanted gregory to impress the sacred 28 whenever they were invited around. there was a certain level of performance done when the two of them would interact in public, but it was still noticeable 

in school, his bad grades are primarily because he finds himself getting into trouble too much, doesn’t apply himself on his homework. it continues on like that until he’s genuinely behind his peers, saying or doing dumb things that has him as the butt of the joke. depending on his mood, he’ll let it slide. 

he finds friends that he actually enjoys, that treat him better than his family does, and pledges his loyalty to them pretty early on. he’ll do anything to protect them. 

the one thing he actually finds himself doing well at is dueling - he’s a bit slow to respond at first, and can’t really think ahead - but his spells have power, have force, and he finds himself as a worthy opponent. 

plot twist time ! the summer before his first attempt at fourth year, gregory is bitten by a werewolf. the details are blurry to him - he was out, close to pubs that the students would often frequent. he thinks there might’ve been a fight - but there often is. and then he’s on the ground and can’t remember what happened. 

a healer is called, he’s taken to saint mungos, and the headmaster and his father are called. it doesn’t go well with his father - his blood is sullied, he’s a monster. the headmaster assures him that they will have resources for him when he gets to school and that they will keep it a secret. 

fourth year is a rough year ! he hates himself ! is terrified of the full moon ! keeps this secret to himself ! he’s failed a class or two before, barely passed many, but it’s the first time he completely fails the year. 

last summer he barely goes home - he crashes with friends, crashes in hotels - anything to avoid his father and their (small) manor. 

fourth year part two ! this year ! he’s back, still hating himself and others rip, but he’s a little better ! he’s a bit given up which makes him a bit more reckless but ! who knows !

Its one of those days where I share my views with the world and then go die from crippling anxiety.

The whole: "If you cant take kids being kids in public spaces dont go there." take

I agree. A lot of posts stating that sentiment I have reblogged because I agree with the sentiment. If you cant handle loud kids dont go visit a kids playground just to complain about the kids present.

But as someone who really "cant handle kids being kids" ive always felt the statement off somehow to me. I dont go to places where loads of children are to be expected aside from the schoolgrounds I need to cross every once and again to get to the train station. I avoid them because I do sincerely not have the capability to handle a bunch of kids being loud and I recognize that being loud is just a huge chunk of being a young and small individual.

However, I cant always avoid kids. I too need to go groccery shopping and so do parents and sometimes they bring their kids along for a multitude of possible reasons and sometimes for a multitude of other possible reasons the kid starts screaming or crying or having a tantrum. As a person who "cant handle kids being kids" I cant avoid them entirely. Believe me, if I could I would. Kids overwhelm me to the extreme and its no fun, I can barely handle my own two year old brother when I visit my family sometimes and there have been moments where I just had a breakdown because of him. Just because I cant deal with loud noises or overlapping noises very well, I cant deal with sudden movements well either, I have my very specific icks about what, who and where I am touched. All these things are things kids just do (aside from the touching thats specific for my brother because he doesnt understand it yet but we teach him and hes doing great) and those things get to me really quickly.

And frankly even for situations where it is "my choice" like being on a public train to get to meet my family and friends and a child also being there the notion of "just stay home" just bugs me somehow. Because sure. I could totally stay home and if I did I would have seen my fiance once since I moved out and my mother zero times. Simply because they dont have the resoucses or time to visit me but I can visit them. I hope people can understand why thats a thing id dislike. I want to see them even if its taxing to take on a six hour train ride and even if theres loud people some of which may be kids (but honestly most of them arent but thats a long tangion)

And to top it all off, while on the Toilette in my own home today I heard a child screaming too. I want everyone reading this to have the context that I live on the second floor of an old building with an extremly high ceiling. My own at least 3m if not 4m high. So ive been at least 6-8m (not counting the fact the kid wasnt screaming upwards from right underneath my window) away from the child in height and still heard it loud and clear while being in my own home.

Point is.

You cant avoid kids and I dont think making struggling with some things kids are prone to do out to be the trait of a bad person is a good thing to do.

Ive just been wondering if instead of telling people to "just stay home" to avoid the volume of kids being kids we could find ways to deal with that instead so that neither an adult has to limit themselves nor a kid has to be banned from certain places. Because obviously parents are allowed to take their child into the groccery store with them. I dont want to ban them from doing that. Id just like to figure out how to deal with the screaming child in line behind me if I also happen to be in the groccery store. Because my current tactic is "try not to cry and run for it as soon as you can" and thats just intensly taxing.

So yeah

I was reminded of this post so here’s a few more fun facts about Ash’s Lopunny:

#1 Paul Hater. If no one hates Paul he is no longer on this Earth. Ash is super nice and constantly going “well maybe Paul has a point :(” and it gets on Buneary’s nerves so he is slowly aiming his hyperkinetic ass towards Paul every time they battle.

He bites. He keeps biting Ash’s hand and breaking bones and Ash is like “ah this is just like Charizard!” despite being in extreme pain. Everyone who isn’t Brock and therefore wasn’t there for the utter sociopathic weirdness of season one Kanto is just getting increasingly worried.

He DOES mellow out by the time the Lily-of-the-Valley conference ends, but it’s only enough to make him stop attacking people on sight. We later get an omake sometime around the Decolore Islands where we watch Buneary and Ash’s Tauros training together. Buneary has taken out half of them.

Buneary comes back sometime in the middle of Kalos (because for some reason Serena wasn’t allowed character traits until the show was nearly over) and he’s there because he’s his twin sister’s number one stan, so of course he’d like Showcases since Ash got from the explanation that they’re “local Contests”.

Buneary hates them. He DEMANDS that Ash, as the only other motherfucker in the audience to have experienced a real contest, to get down onto that stage and let those hoes HAVE IT. (As translated by Pikachu, of whom Ash gets the gist of it from.)

As Showcases are girls only because Kalos is weirdly sexist, Ash then has to disguise himself as a girl once more (as helped by Team Rocket because like. You’d think Contest Veteran Jessilinabellagram wouldn’t also think this shit was nonsense? None of these girlies would last a second in the same room as Jessie’s bestie Harley.)

Anyways midway through the Showcase, Ashley is like. She’s not exactly doing great, but she’s having fun, and she and Pikachu are in the groove with Buneary also there, and he’s going through this like. Crisis. That he’s basically been treating Ash like SHIT and Ash is still taking the time to be his friend??? Hello??? He’s putting his own wants and needs on hold for Buneary??? You TREAT Buneary like a friend since the first broken rib???

At that point that’s the entire storyline i have planned for Lopunny. I wouldn’t have to make him the mega evo if Gamefreak just let the kalos starters properly mega evo but here we are i fuckin guess

this has no bearing on anything but two days ago i had the phrase "ash's lopunny" beamed into my brain during a nap dream and all i can think about now is Ash catching the twin brother of Dawn's Buneary, but Ash's Buneary fucking despises Ash and keeps trying to shatter his sternum, and it isn't until Kalos that Buneary likes Ash, and that causes him to evolve from "fuck this one dude in particular" Buneary to "fuck EVERYONE ELSE i respect YOU" Lopunny.

Also Lopunny has razor sharp teeth and no one comments on it, to add to the surreal air every single normal type had in Sinnoh

the secret garden: dickon sowerby throughout different adaptations

given how many different adaptations of the secret garden there are, it is inevitable that some of them would use the same ideas. @isfjmel-phleg did a great post on the integration of mary’s mother and colin’s mother being twin sisters that has been used throughout different versions of the story, starting with the 1991 broadway musical. however, there is one popular change that particularly irks me, and that is what i like to call the “left-out dickon trope.”

so just what, exactly, is this trope? it’s simple: dickon sowerby is used as a plot device to “fix” colin and mary, restoring them to their childlike glory, and is cast away at the end of the story. in most adaptations that use this trope, dickon is painted in an almost otherworldly way, as an omniscient character who can sense when it is time for him to leave. he is not a cheerful, childlike boy full of life as he is in the original text; rather, he is dark, mysterious and ethereal. 

the trope, as far as i can tell, started in the 1987 hallmark film. it is also present in the 1993 warner brothers film, and after that, the 1994 animated film. however, it is most prevalent in the 1987 film, where dickon is played by barret oliver (“the neverending story”).

oliver plays dickon in a cocky, overly confident way. he is much older in appearance than mary and colin (although colin, played by the two-years-younger jadrien steele, is significantly taller) and acts like he knows more than they do about…everything. near the end of the film, mary and colin are fretting about how they will eventually be sent to boarding schools, and dickon makes an off-handed remark about how they will “be parted” (“we’ll be parted, you and me. but remembrance will keep us friends.”). after this, he leaves the garden—right before archibald walks in to witness colin walking for the first time, the emotional climax of the film. in the final scene of the movie, an older mary returns to the garden and talks with ben weatherstaff. they discuss a letter sent that details dickon’s death in a field during the war, and mary says that dickon always knew he would die surrounded by growing things. 

throughout the 1987 movie, there is a black cat, specifically in the scenes featuring future mary. this cat seems to represent dickon, as he is not there in the final scene; perhaps it is supposed to represent his spirit or something otherwise. it paints him as something different than the cousins—someone magical and immortal, which he is not and should not be. this, combined with his arrogant superiority complex, is extremely frustrating and not accurate to the book at all.

in the 1993 movie, dickon carries a bit of this arrogance. he’s a bit of a showoff in my opinion (that scene where he eats the grub, for example). the trait is handled better than in the ’87 version, though, because it can really be passed off as him being older than the cousins and them being slightly in awe of him. however, also like the ’87 film, dickon is completely excluded at the end. he’s set up to be mary’s best friend (or maybe more), but in the end, he is not included in the family’s reunion scene, looking on as a bystander. dickon is constantly seen with a white horse (oh, hello, 1991 musical fans—he actually does have a fine white horse. or pony? you know i think it’s actually a pony. i’m not one to trust on my equine knowledge), and with this steed, he rides away after bringing mary and colin to archibald—it’s almost like he was strictly there for plot convenience the whole time. i really like andrew knott’s dickon, more than many other versions, so it’s very disappointing when he doesn’t make the found family at the end. the 1994 animated adaptation follows this example—there’s a scene at the end where colin asks his father something along the lines of are they a “real family” now, and archibald responds “yes. you, me and mary,” while dickon and martha are never spoken of again).

obviously the 1993 film is the most popular and universally beloved adaptation, and it’s beautifully made. i think that it deserves the spotlight it gets, although i personally am a sucker for the 1949 film (hm. perhaps it’s because dickon isn’t left out or changed to be an ethereal character unlike his book counterpart?!). but the 1993 film tends to focus more on aesthetics and visuals rather than actual character development. for example, colin has his puppet theater, which is adorable, and a beautiful prop, but it doesn’t add much to his character. its existence means he’s more imaginative, right? couldn’t there have been a scene in which he plays with it by himself, showing his neglect and ability to fend for himself mentally as he has no one to do that for him? but there isn’t (although the clip of heydon and kate goofing around with the theater is sweet too). another example is dickon’s exclusion: the overhead shot of him riding away on that white pony going “my work here is done” is much more “cinematically beautiful” than him being a part of the group hug at the end.

in the original book, dickon is so lovable and helpful to mary and colin only BECAUSE he’s so down-to-earth and realistic. mary and colin are almost like caricatures of children in the beginning of the story: old-fashioned, idealistic, and not relatable. they don’t know what a real, “normal” childhood is like until dickon, a real boy with rosy cheeks and life inside comes to meet them. but dickon does not bring mary and colin back to life; he’s just one example to them of the life that they could be living when they begin to heal and grow. he’s not this magical, all-knowing, omniscient being with a superiority complex, and his character doesn’t need to rely on “fixing” mary and colin for plot convenience. they need to grow and learn by themselves, and dickon’s whole character should not be thrown away for the cousins’ sake.

favorite thing about them

i love how she makes things worse on purpose. and i love her sense of humor. its so inspiring how she was dedicated to making things hurt more for everyone involved, at everyone's expense. girlboss of all time

least favorite thing about them

the most frustrating aspect of kaeru's character is probably that she had the ability to change things, but wasn't interested in doing so, and didn't try. as the reader you constantly are wishing that kaeru would let go of her belief that there is no point in changing "canon" because the cycle will continue, no matter what... but it is also a really excellent part of her character that makes you think again about what kind of lasting change kaeru could have made, if she tried. could she have stopped the deaths of her clan? what about the oncoming wars? and what of the fighting that would continue even after naruto swore he would change everything?

having knowledge of canon events, kaeru knows that naruto & sasuke & everyone else will fall into the exact same cycle that they swore to change. kaeru doesn't change because the world around her doesn't change. she doesn't see a point. she has the people she cares about, and fuck the rest, really. she's a great distorted mirror of the naruto world i think, so even though her refusal to change is her most frustrating aspect i also think its one of her most interesting traits. queen

i think that when orochimaru left akatsuki it was because kaeru kept driving him to tears by virtue of her insufferable personality. and i think it really hurt orochimarus feelings that kaeru thought his attempts to experiment on & kill her were funny and amusing more than anything else. he wanted to be taken seriously but he just couldnt get any dignity from her. itachi chased him out of akatsuki on purpose but kaeru wouldve been perfectly happy letting him stay in the same space as her so she could keep poking him forever. he just could not take it anymore

unpopular opinion

is there such a thing as an unpopular opinion about kaeru? i think people who are mad that kaeru didnt go on a power trip with all of her cool abilities are just haters with no understanding of how much funnier it is that she couldve done something but didnt. "you wouldn't get it" -- me to all the SV commenters who do this
