the harem trope fascinates me for no reason
#random thoughts#he has glasses and you can't see his eyes and is kind of built like clark kent#i think my ideal anime would be a harem consisting of like 30 women#like 'i am a boy attending an all girls' school' levels of so much wamen#all girls' college has 1 (one) male student to meet diversity quota#and every single girl in this school wants to jump this guy's bones#he's ambivalent about it. mostly flattered#all the girls are super fleshed out with backstories and families and legit reasons why they lust after the mc#meanwhile mc has generic supportive parents#there is an episode where he gets hit in the head with a basketball and gets knocked out and hallucinates an alternate universe#where he's the only girl at an all boy's college#and there are now male versions of all the girls#and he's a magical girl for some reason#he wears a button up all the time#he grew up on a pig farm and he has midwestern farmboy energy and thats why everyone likes him#he's just polite and kind and can lift most things#his mom died when he was a baby and he only had older brothers which would make you think he's incapable of talking to women#but his dad had him involved in his grandmother's knitting circle so he can only not talk to women his age#or maybe his mom left idk that sound more compelling actually

honestly i think maybe i love ace attorney because its so magical girl coded....the formula of a dumbass who has no idea what they are doing but have to roll with whatever comes their way and preserve out of goodness of their heart is so so magical girl (and a step further, pink cure) in essence, just done with evidence and objections instead of magical rods and mascots
*side note: weirdgirl assistants are essentially a mascot role in this reading as they provide advice/help/just moral support while being a very comedic character and also need saving at times

Mindy's not alone in Mission Control when she discovers Mark's still alive.
Her coworker is a nice boy named Danny from some small town in the midwest. The strangest thing about him is his answer to the "so why didn't you apply for the astronaut program?" question: an enigmatic "Oh, I didn't need to go through all of that." He's smart, though, and she can see that he's had the same realization without her saying a word.
What comes out of his mouth isn't what she expected, though.
"Call Medical, tell them to prepare for Mark, then get Mitch and Vincent down there. I'm not leaving him up there until NASA can get their asses in gear."
What?
He must see her confusion, because he continues. "Go get everyone ready. I'm bringing him back."

I was doing the dishes and thinking about the Beauty and the Beast AU when it hit me... The Little Mermaid but make it DickJoey. Because! What if Dick signed his voice/tail away because there was something on land he needed to retrieve in order to save someone? And what if Joey ran into Dick, realized Dick couldn't talk, and then tried to see if Dick knew ASL? And Dick was like umm... and then just started writing in the sand alskdja. Except it wouldn't be English and so then Joey would be the one being all umm... Then they'd just communicate via body language or drawings until Joey started to teach Dick some ASL. And anyway, I just think it would be fun if they went adventuring together to hunt down whatever Dick needed.

nightbringer lesson 14 FUCKED ME UP in several ways but primarily I've spent the last 48 hours making myself sad over the solomon backstory we got. specifically I have, for no reason, latched onto that one chapter in the Kids event where baby solomon cried because he felt so guilty over being responsible for that spell. and that just feels a touch more depressing in context
#nightbringer spoilers#obey me on side#went back and unlocked the event again because i could not get this out of my brain i know it's probably not that deep#but it is that deep TO ME. okay#baby solomon has been on my brain since thirteen told that story so that's probably why it's sticking in my brain so hard but whatever#in case anyone was wondering the other things to make me sad are:#he has such a deeply excessive amount of lights in his room in purgatory hall there are SEVERAL chandeliers and lamps#there's a good handful in his room in cocytus hall too (his horror dg showed it) if a more normal amount#but that with the 'dim and gloomy' detail. ☹️#i've also always thought that solomon's loneliness wasn't all about the immortal angst but like.#having it confirmed that he's had reason to be lonely since he was a child- before he was old enough to know he was using magic-#totally crushed me girl why can't I be wrong#had emotions about lesson 14 in general but solomon backstory steals the show every time for me so i haven't gotten around to the rest#i'm enjoying the nightbringer story so much (not talking about the game design. that's a different thing entirely) but man#the pacing is WILD it feels like every lesson could be a whole lesson block at the least. it's giving me a lot of room to speculate#which I always love! but i do wish they would slow down a little and expand on some of these concepts they're bringing up#because the basic idea of the game alone is REALLY INTRIGUING and it'd be a shame if they raced back to the present imo#what was i even talking about. sorry my brain fast forwards as soon as i get into the tags there is not one sequitur to be seen#so curious about solomon's friend now too. like my guess is it's going to be lilith (and hopefully not in a popular fan theory kind of way)#because it's more than a little suspicious that they expanded on lilith's views on humans the way they did#in a way that SO PERFECTLY lines up with the expansion on solomon's views on humans#WHICH I HAVEN'T TALKED ABOUT YET BY THE WAY BUT LIKE. HE IS SO RIGHT AND REAL FOR THAT#it's beyond stressful to me that I think solomon is completely justified in his views and being completely reasonable about it#but that it would also mean war between the worlds presumably while the brothers are still recovering from THEIRS#you cannot give me that choice man. not even sure that the human world would be ABLE to win that fight if we're being real#solomon's 72 pacts are a lot yes but he's still only one guy who is NOT on good terms with the sorcerer's society#and mc is powerful but so so inexperienced. and that's IF they choose to side with the human world which#really i don't think the canon mc is likely to do. but anyway i guess solomon's friend could also be adam maybe?#that could be wishful thinking because i like adam though. even if his hair SUUUCKS#deeply offended by everyone thinking solomon got the fucked up hair when all signs point to adam be NICE TO HIM he's ugly already

Realizing how I've always had a soft spot for characters who struggle with their anger and violently lashing out. I'm sure that means something, but for now just filing it away for future use.

I'm just a girl standing in front of the Elena of Avalor S3 timeline begging for it to make even a little logical sense.
#elena of avalor#honestly the only way it does is if we assume that the various avaloran holidays take place in radically different months#than their real-world counterparts#like if we assume that carnaval matches its real world equivalent#"the magic within' takes place in feb-march#but the very next episode is the final dias de los muertos one#which by real world standards is beginning of november#so you're telling me that after the massive fallout of carnaval; absolutely nothing happened for like 7-10 months(!)#and then pretty much all of the next few important episodes happen b/w Nov and Dec (assuming hannukah is also at its real world time)#so like elena spends an intense period of like 1-2 months being just completely fixated on esteban#(i mean girl; same but come on)#after having spent like nearly a year forgetting he even exists?#and then has her nice little winter holiday break#and forgets about him for a month or two in between#only to just suddenly without much logical reason just become obsessed w/ him and ash again for an ep or two#and then forgets about him again#because the plot demands it#i mean like tbf all the flores cousins read to me as neurodivergent to some degree#so i guess it makes a little sense that she'd fall in and out of hyperfocus and get distracted by other fun things#but like i feel like the situation is a bit more intense/important/demanding than just a regular special interest waxing and waning a bit#i mean the real answer is that at least some of the filler episodes were aired waaaayyy out of order#maybe we're meant to see carnaval as not actual carnaval time? but like a big random party in like july or aug??#so like elena still ignores the plot for way too long but at least its like less than 6 months and not more#and it is making plotting s3 era fic very very hard#since it's very tricky to find the right spot to set things

(vent) Again I am not touching my other interests here often, but I think Thomas Astruc (Mir4culous L4dybug) is one of the WORST examples of this meme amongst the showmakers:
Like... imagine writing an absolute textbook example of the mary sue character who is instantly talented in everything she does, the super ultra skilled designer and artist recognised by world wide celebrities for her skill, repeatedly hired by celebrities to do commissions for them, loved by everyone, one of the best video-gamer, apparently can invent complex mechanisms, is "the best Miraculous holder and the best holder of a ladybug miraculous who ever lived" (in 5000+ years!), instantly masters every miraculous she holds the first time, while also always getting away with her awful actions (if not getting rewarded for them) and taking up so much screen time that the supposed second main character (whose whole potential was assassinated to make him goofy, annoying and useless without this woman) might as well not exist
And when you DO address that, you are claimed to be some sort of sexist who just hates to see the girlboss wi- I mean, can't handle to see female lead or whatever. Not just that, but also claiming another character who was abused and neglected by her mother to the point of living basically without her, has god awful father that absolutely fails to act like a PARENT and instead just spoils her with gifts and favours and only had two whole friends in her entire life is evil just for the sake of evil and can never change and would not WANT to change because "she would not want to give away her PWIWWILEGES UWU".

That's not feminism, that's 'how do you do fellow kids'. That's the example of a boomer learning what ideals these darn modern kids support and trying to jump on the bandwagon without actually understanding any of this... and ironically ending up hurting the exact people you try to cater to. Also all mentioned characters are 14-15 years old.
Sigh... Sometimes I just wish show makers stopped trying to jump onto ideas they clearly do not understand. This is always just so embarrassing to watch.

#I never played ar tonelico but I read LPs way back when#and once in a while my brain latches on to the worldbuilding and the SUNG CONLANG PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE OF MAGIC#(seriously that string of words is catnip for me)#and wants to do something with it#this time it’s… well whenever my brain sees 'XYZ group can’t be boys/girls because reasons' I go 'okay but consider: trans people'#so now my brain is giving me vague ideas about a trans dude reyvateil who tries to hack his Singing voice#since from what the wiki says it sounds like the Tower handles how it sounds when someone Sings#and I’m knee deep in the wiki for something I’ll never write trying to figure out what to hack and how#doesn’t help that all the Hymmnos I know is some of the emotion words#so all my brain gives me is 'holy shit if he gets to Sing the last bit in his new voice and it starts with 'was yea erra''#(which I guess gives me some extra corner points in that an IPD reyvateil needs to be involved and it’s not him since that’s standard)#(because for the change to be implemented mid Song it’d have to be executed sequentially and you can’t do that with standard)#(and if he’s the ipd he’d want his Song to have as much power as possible and not bother with emulation)#(I guess there’s a bit of plot there in that he tries on his own but fails and something something the value of community)#(maybe part of the failure is that his approach features emotion sounds that his actual feelings clash with due to his voice)#(since the change would only go through at the end)#(so I guess the patch would in part be porting the lines he struggles with to New Testament of Pastalia so the other person can take them)#(and run them as they’re Sung)#I HAVE NEVER EVEN PLAYED THE GAMES

well first of all emma and julian are sooooo dyke coded so jot that down. but i digress. back to the discussion at hand. ok so after emma and jules sleep together he apologizes because he didn’t think about protection, and emma’s like dude don’t worry about it i have the rune (the birth control rune. because shadowhunters have a birth control RUNE. thanks clary <3) and then she says “and i don’t have any diseases” which is technically vague enough that MAYBE she wasn’t referring to regular human stds and she was just perhaps jokingly referring to the fact that she doesn’t have like demon pox or whatever. she’s like that she would totally try to bring some lighthearted jokes to julian’s little mental breakdown about sleeping with his best friend. however. she’s not doing that she’s just being like, matter of fact and straightforward and saying they’re fine because neither of them “have any diseases” which is vague. and maybe shadowhunters have their own stds which would be hilarious but would still bother me anyway. so like this is stupid. cassandra i didn’t want to know that shadowhunters can get stds. girl this sucks!
#and for further reading. we know that shadowhunters are knowledgeable about normal stds because earlier in this exact book livvy forces mark#away from flirting with some girls at a diner by telling them he has syphilis#which she came up with because ty was reading about it. for some reason. who knows why that boy does anything#so clearly shadowhunters have a working knowledge of mundane sexually transmitted diseases#HOWEVER. also looking at this scene. after livvy says that mark counters with ‘there are no sexually transmitted diseases in faerieland’#which i have to simply take his word for. because that seems true and also mark would never lie to me#so faeries seemingly canonically cannot get stds. and the thing is that mark is half faerie half shadowhunter. so what about HIM.#or is it just that no one has introduced stds TO faeries. and theoretically if that happened could they get them#i don’t think so because i assume the urban faeries are slutting it up with humans all the time. so i would assume that faeries are magical#enough that they are immune from human diseases#and someone who is half faerie probably also carries some level of that immunity#but then why don’t shadowhunters have that same immunity is the question.#this is so serious to me btw#beth.txt#feel free to weigh in if you like i’m definitely gonna be thinking about this all day#tsc

Reading GSS has made me realize that having a protagonist who actually gets scared is almost essential to horror. I remember Iwaihime not feeling scary at all because no matter what happened the protag barely reacted to it.
