I've asked this to others, too, but I wanna know what you think. :3
What if c!Staged Duo and c!Clingy Duo are shoved into a world of superheroes, vigilantes, and villains?
Like, an average superpower world.
But, the powers are very... Lackluster, I suppose is the word?
And the villains run a lot of things in that world.
I'm not saying there aren't professional superheroes, but due to one thing or another, they aren't...
Doing very well in general.
So more vigilantes fight the villains than superheroes.
And, of course, most of them aren't very good at it from lack of training and such.
Also, the villains got to be in charge due to advanced equipment to help their powers that they got ahold of some way or another.
Maybe through stealing it, inventing it, or other things.
So, the four of them are shoved into this world, preferably with all their equipment to make it more interesting.
If you were to put them in a position in this world, what would it be?
Citizens, Heroes, Vigilantes, or Villains?
And, to make it more interesting, because I know half of them at least you'll put into the Villains category, let's take that one away, too. :)
(Like, give me your first thoughts on their positions, and then tell me what they'd be in if Villains were taken off the table. :3)

Phew finally! Hi, sorry for taking so long to answer, I've been trying to find the time the whole week but I was not very lucky till now.
Okay, so a superhero AU huh? Let's see ... (keep in mind that those are my personal opinions and I suck at character accuracy)
I'm sorry in advance for how long and incoherent this is probably going to be. I am indecisive and an overthinker sooo ... rather than specific positions in which I see them, this is more like some summary of my thoughts and what I think would affect it?
Firstly I think it's important to settle on when they get transferred there as the specific point of the time line would to some degree determine how they feel about each other and that would most likely shape which side they join. Like, if it happened before finale happened I can't really see Tommy and Dream cooperating willingly unless there is a dire need for it. Tommy would most likely put himself on a side opposing to Dream because in his narrative Dream is the villain. I'm not saying that Tommy would not care about the politics of this world at all but I can hardly see him joining the same side as Dream, they have way too long history of going against one another.
Assuming they already existed in this word before (like if they already appear with some assigned role) I think they would either stick to that if it fits with their goals/worldviews (although a switch from villain to hero might not be possible). However if they appeared out of nowhere with no footing in this world that would narrow down their options. Because you mentioned that heroes have to train beforehand so this is not an available role right away. That leaves us with civilian and vigilante and well villain but you said I can't do that sooo .... okay.
Well at first they would probably have to get familiar with the world and how it works. Depending on when in DSMP storyline we are there could be different dynamics that shape their decisions.
Like as I mentioned, if it's before the finale then Dream and Tommy are still against each other and personally I can see Tommy hyper-fixating on Dream and defeating his personal villain because surely Dream is the worst one out there, right? Tubbo would probably support him or at best stay neutral. Given the whole finale though and like their canon dynamic in general I think he would be more likely to follow Tommy or at least stick close to him. Dream in this case would most likely figure out which side is the most likely to help him achieve his goals (is he still trying to go through with the plan? Or is there something new?) He wouldn't really be afraid to associate himself with the villains and become one if that's what it takes for things to work out as he wants. Punz would likely support him, either joining the same side or once again playing double agent (though I think that after the things that happened to Dream in prison he could be reluctant to do that again).
Assuming that they don't want to get back to the SMP I can see them maybe trying to be civilians, maybe not Tommy if I am honest, I think he would try to be vigilante or something just because well he is a chaos gremlin. But in case that they don't want to get back to the SMP and Dream has no reason to go through with his plan in this new world then I can see him try to be a civilian ... I don't think it would work out but I can see him try. Either Tommy, or the villains wreaking havoc, would ruin that.
If it happens after the finale (like after Tommy's and Dream's talk) then Dream and Tommy would be more likely to get along (or try to). I would even say that they could try to be civilians and catch a break before the circumstances maybe push them into more of a vigilante role. Tubbo and Punz though would probably be less content with just that so I can see them both getting more involved in the superpower stuff in their attempt to convince Dream and Tommy to come "back to their senses". Because I personally feel that Punz was not all that affected by Dream's and Tommy's heart to heart and would not like Tommy being all buddy buddy with Dream after he went to kill him and Tubbo was not even there for it.
So, yeah. I'd say it depends ... damn I am just talking in circles aren't I? Okay well if I were to give them a role based on just feelings, the weather, the position of Jupiter and what came to my mind first when I heard superhero AU I would probably go with:
Tommy: vigilante, maybe trying to be a hero but eh I don't really see him being one
Tubbo: civilian or vigilante (would probably consider villainy for the resources though, not a real desire to be a villain but y'know ... nukes)
Dream: either hero or a villain, this guy has a track record of dealing in extremes. I could see him try to be a civilian for the time being but eventually he would end up tangled in this mess
Punz: can swing either way depending on circumstances and Dream but I'd probably lean more towards vigilante working with both heroes and villains depending on what works the best for him
I really don't know, sorry. I love discussing other's AUs and all but I tend to think too much about it so we sort of end up here where I would base their positions on way too many other things. Because character-wise I see almost all of them swinging various ways, DSMP characters aren't really known for their functional moral compass and well the roles ... just being a villain doesn't mean being bad I'd say. I can totally see Dream being the villain not because he is evil or agrees with their goals but because it could benefit him, get him resources etc. Similarly I can see Tommy being a hero or a vigilante but not because I really consider him a good person or anything but because the way I see it he has a tendency of placing himself in the "hero" role, so I don't think he would willingly label himself the villain (unlike Dream) unless he would believe that the villains are actually right and the heroes are wrong (he doesn't necessarily have to be the hero publicly but like y'know in his narrative).
It also sort of depends like are we talking TCFSV sort of thing, or more of TUMOASD, crack fic, serious fic, hurt/comfort, angst, one of those coffee shops AUs where a sleep deprived character just wants to make money but all the damn supervillains and superheroes wind up in their shop during their shift ... really there are soooo many takes on a superhero AU that you can have fun and mess around with. Like, I have 3 superhero AUs in my notes and they are not the same thing.
Ooof I didn't help you at all, did I? Sorry 😅 Pls don't get me canceled for this, those are just my thoughts that are definitely affected by my feelings towards the characters and possibly also by similar AU's that I've read in the past. I would certainly be happy to learn more about your AU though, so if you want another ramble like this feel free to ask or dm me :) and I'm looking forward to you hopefully making more for this AU, it sounds interesting especially with lackluster powers.
