headcanons behind fic: Chay's allowance and KimChay zero baht dates mentioned in long & short

Kim chokes trying not to laugh. “Seriously Angel?” Chay looks at him, lips pulled into a pouty moue like what? “You only take me out on zero baht dates, but you’ll pay people to draw us as cats?” Chay sniffs primly. “I only use my allowance for education and fine art,” he says, haughty.

Korn giving Porsche and Chay a large allowance comes up in a lot of my fics I think, because I see him giving all of his sons and his wards a large allowance. And for once, it's not actually a part of his usual manipulation and control tactics.

(Well. It's not not about manipulation and control, because everything Korn does involves manipulation and control. Korn absolutely monitors their accounts and purchases, not to mention he's absolutely the sort of person to always have a mental ledger of favors given and owed for everyone, especially family.)

However, he doesn't need to control any of the boys' finances to have control over them and he's so present over all of them that giving them access to their own money (vs having them request it from him directly) doesn't give him any more advantage over them or could even run counter to it.

No, I see Korn giving all the boys a hefty allowance as a personal push back against the ghost of his father.

We don't know anything about grandpa Theerapanyakul beyond the fact that Gun invoked his name while yelling at Korn and the mere comparison of them rattled Korn more than the literal gun war happening in his own home. Of all the terrible fathers in this series, the grandpa takes the cake apparently!

Alongside Korn's deep-seated control issues, he also has this weird...thing where he really, really wants to be seen as a caretaker and good provider. He never outright denies his sons and is seemingly very supportive of them-- Khun was allowed to fall back and be taken care of, Kim was allowed to live separately to become a musician, he paid off judges in the name of Kinn's childhood dream, later he supports Kinn and Porsche's relationship-- and the whole fucked thing with Nampheung and the narrative he's constructed around him taking care of her. Even Korn's relationship with Gun is a little bit weird given how much he talks about competition. Like, he desperately wants to be seen as a good provider and caretaker, he just also can't stop being Korn and has that stupid-ass metaphor with the knife and the apple. It's a very crunchy contradiction.

Anyways, Korn's issues aside, I see Korn giving his sons and later wards personal allowances as a part of his personal image of himself as a good provider.

And Porsche and Chay hate it.

(Porsche reminds Chay they're very grateful. Chay mutters where was this help when Porsche took out an informal loan too young. Porsche hisses and whips his head around for any walls that are listening.)

Chay mostly just tries to ignore the supposed pile of money apparently just...sitting there, for him, and spend no differently than how he usually would (it doesn't feel real, digital money is never real to him). However, after so many years of Porsche sacrificing to save money for his needs and future, Chay can't bring himself to ignore the account completely when it comes to things like school or food. He never actually looks at his account, he mostly just squeezes his eyes shut whenever he uses his card for essentials and waits for the system to deny him, except it never does. That does not make Chay feel any better about the situation.

The only time Chay's close to breaking his "no treats" stance is shortly after he and Kim get together. Chay wants so badly to treat Kim to something really special, but. Money. He frets. He makes a pros and cons list. He paces. He has an entire argument with himself in the mirror. He angsts. He takes one look at Kim's happy face over a candlelight dinner and decides fuck it, that's a guy he's going to spoil to the moon and back, stupid blood money allowance be damned.

Except, as established, Chay's never looked at his actual account, so he goes to Cash the accountant to see what his options are for spoiling dates. Like, he's been paying his tuition and the card always goes through at the grocer or noodle house, and Korn does keep telling him his school allowance includes some extra spending money, but Chay wants to spoil Kim. A band they like will be on tour in Bangkok around Kim's birthday, Chay's gunning for special VIP tickets and some extra money for merch and dinner. Surely stupid rich mafia has plenty of money to spare for that.

Chay: would I, uh, be able to get a little extra money? tickets are 3000 but they're for a really special occasion and-

Cash, thinking about Kinn's 3000 dollar helicopter tickets: I don't care, let me just pull up your account details

Chay: thank you so much 🥺

Then Cash turns his screen around to ask Chay how much money he needs and. That is. A lot of money. So many digits. The decimal certainly in the wrong spot. Then Chay looks to the top of the corner and nearly screams because that's his name on the account, what the fuck?

Cash: Khun Korn said to have enough money to cover your tuition

Chay: [does not point out the initial balance was 3x his four year tuition]

Chay...leaves. He thinks. He doesn't know how he got from Cash's office to his room but his next stop is his bed to scream into his pillow until his throat hurts. Fucking rich people.

In protest, Chay takes Kim out the next evening on a zero baht date. They walk along whatever part of the river's nearest to their university to watch the sunset, have to jump a fence and duck two railings to even find a private sitting space away from any other river goers. The view's passable at best, at least free of most industry stuff thanks to the proximity to school but hardly the most inspiring. Chay spreads out his flannel for them to sit on, and feeds Kim dry packet ramen and stale shrimp chips he got free from a university event. He didn't even buy a drink, they survive off a mostly full bottle of grape soda Chay stole off a friend.

(It's a magical evening for Kim, obviously. Ferreting out little hidden spaces hand-in-hand with Chay, enjoying the nighttime air curled together, eating terrible cheap food that somehow tastes good? This is DOING things to him. He will be bringing a guitar and minimum two water bottles with him next time tho.)

Part 2: The Drive

Whoever had coined the phrase herding kittens had never tried herding a pack of werewolf puppies into cars for a two hour car ride. Between Jackson's Porsche, Derek's Camaro and Stiles' Jeep they had three cars for their ten pack members – Peter having opted out of sleeping in a tent with a bunch of hormonal teenagers close by, and fair enough. Stiles had thought it would be easy to divide them – Derek would take Cora and Isaac, Stiles of course would take Scott which also meant he'd take Allison, and Lydia was naturally going with Jackson, which meant Jackson would also take Boyd and Erica. However. Lydia was apparently a very naggy backseat driver, at least when Jackson was at the wheel. And Jackson refused to drive Boyd and Erica around because he did not want to spend two hours in a car with them making out in the backseat. Which Stiles kind of understood.

"No, shut up," Stiles actually pressed his flat palm against Jackson's mouth. "You take Isaac and Cora, or you will get Scott and Allison. That's your choices if you refuse Boyd and Erica."

He glared at the beta, daring Jackson to complain. Scott and Jackson still had their stupid rivalry going on, perhaps even worse now that Jackson was an actual werewolf. Much to Stiles' surprise did Jackson not growl at him about the hand in the face, he didn't even argue. That was actually one of the things Stiles wanted to talk to Derek about, the betas' weird behaviors. They listened to Stiles. Not to everything he said and they were still being little shits about a lot of things, but when Stiles put his foot down and gave a command, they usually agreed without fuss.

"Good," Stiles nodded pleased and removed his hand from Jackson's face. "Cora, Isaac, you heard me, go with Jackson. No complaints. Boyd and Erica go in the Camaro with Derek. Scott, Lydia and Allison will go with me then. Scott, you're shot-gun. Don't whine. I will not watch the two of you make out for two hours either and I think that Allison will be more effective in distracting Lydia so she won't backseat drive me. Any more questions?"

The betas all shook their heads and headed to the cars with various degrees of excitement and sullenness (though that one was mostly Scott). With a triumphant grin did he turn toward Derek, just to falter ever so slightly at the weird look Derek was giving him. At this point, Stiles prided himself on being fluent in Derek EyebrowsTM and he even knew most variations of Derek's scowls but this expression was new. Stiles had no idea what to do with it.

"Okay," Stiles cleared his throat. "Best you guys follow me, since I know the way."

Jackson just shrugged and got into his car. Derek gave Stiles a short nod. Grinning, Stiles got into his own car, fully ignoring the sad puppy-dog eyes Scott offered him for not getting to sit in the backseat with Allison. Nope. Roscoe was not going to become a vehicle for Scallison Make-Out Sessions. Instead, he put on music that he knew both Allison and Lydia liked, because once the girls were in a good mood, Scott would be in a better mood too on account of a happy Allison. It was painfully easy to read his best friend ever since Scott had found his mate. Though, in all fairness, Scott and Allison had been an excellent example to make Stiles understand what that really meant. Their instant connection, the way they were always drawn to each other, willing to do ridiculous things for each other, always relied on each other. Such a deep connection in such a short time.

And then he'd seen Boyd and Erica, slowly spiraling closer around each other, fully forged bond after their shared torture experience. Jackson and Lydia had been weird to him for a long time, but their curse-defying reunion had explained a lot. Lydia was Jackson's soulmate. Which, really helped Stiles in getting over his feelings for her because that, he could not compete with (and his own growing feelings for a certain Sourwolf had also helped in getting over Lydia).

"So, how did you convince Derek to do this?"

While the girls were singing along to the show-tunes Stiles had prepared, Scott kept giving him the side-eye. Which never lasted long before he cracked and said whatever bothered him. In this case, Stiles wished he'd just been too distracted by being in awe at how beautiful Allison's laughter was (something, and Stiles was not exaggerating here, Scott had once talked about for forty minutes).

"I genuinely do not know," Stiles shrugged. "I had like a whole presentation prepared, but I only got two sentences in and he agreed. Guess this just was that good of an idea."

He turned to grin at Scott with a careless shrug, when in reality Stiles was freaking out about it too.

What Derek loved the most about Stiles was his mind. He could always come up with a good plan, he always put his mind into his research to find the solution they needed, most of the time he was the first one to put two and two together. A clear asset to the pack. A perfect compliment to Derek as the Alpha. And the way he commandeered the betas was starting to get to Derek.

"I want the record to show that I still object to sleeping on the ground," Lydia huffed.

Erica made a similar sound as she exited Derek's car. "For once, I agree with Lydia."

Lydia stood with her arms crossed in front of Stiles' Jeep by the time Derek parked the Camaro. Thankfully, Boyd had distracted Erica for most of the drive, but yes, over all the idea of sleeping in tents without electricity, wifi or running, hot water didn't appeal to most of them. Jackson and Lydia being the loudest of them, with Erica closely behind. Derek growled softly in warning.

"Help unload the cars," Derek ordered sternly. "We'll split up who goes to gather firewood and who'll start putting up the tents once everything is unloaded."

"There are five tents," commented Boyd once everything was out.

Scott immediately perked up, his head snapping to his mate. "Dibs on-"

Before Derek had a chance to voice any objection did Stiles lift a hand. "Nope. And put the sad puppy-dog eyes away too, Scotty. What in the world makes you think that I want to listen to you and Allison all night long? Or Jackson and Lydia. Or Boyd and Erica. No couples. No dibs. I already picked who's going to room together."

"Why in the world do you think you get to assign who I stay with for a weekend, Stilinski."

Stiles narrowed his eyes at Jackson, wagging his finger. "I do, because this is a bonding experience. So you will room with Scott, because the two of you actually need the most bonding. Which means Allison and Lydia won't share a tent, because I'll not have you guys just switch tents. Also, bonding. Besties don't need extra bonding. Allison with Cora, Erica with Lydia. Boyd gets Isaac."

"Why is it 'gets Isaac' like he's a price and we others get stuck with someone?"

Stiles narrowed his eyes at Cora. "Because Isaac is my favorite puppy and a delight."

Derek stood and frowned as he realized that Stiles' plan left him in a tent with Stiles. Overall, he had to agree with Stiles' picks; Isaac was still a little distant with Boyd and Erica about them leaving so the two boys could use the bonding, just as much as Jackson and Scott could. Still, sleeping in an enclosed space with his mate was going to be a real challenge in self-control.

Stiles couldn't help but grin as he watched the werewolves run off into the woods to hunt dinner. Meanwhile, the humans went ahead to prepare the side-dishes. Though Lydia wasn't a big fan of it because she was a little spoiled in that regard. Not that he'd ever tell her that to her face.

Allison offered him a smile. "This was a really nice idea, Stiles."

"Thanks," Stiles grinned broadly. "I just. I don't know. Maybe it's the being-human-part? Like, the pups all get to go on their little pack-run every week and I think it does help them bond. And they can all feel these pack-bonds. I just… I don't know."

The way she looked at him, she understood. The pack humans had to stick together. They finished up all the prep work and boiling water for later, just in time for the wolves to return. There was too much blood smeared all over them and the manic grins coupled with the fangs and glowing eyes were just slightly unsettling, but everyone seemed in high spirits. Derek was carrying two large deer and he dropped them right in front of Stiles, staring at him oddly expectantly.

"Oka—ay," Stiles cleared his throat. "Well done, guys. Uh, thank you. Now, please, go to the creek and get washed up before dinner, you are all really gross right now."

Did he imagine that or did Derek actually preen at the praise? No. Right? Shaking his head, Stiles turned toward the deer that would be dinner. Allison was already getting out the sharp butcher knives they'd brought along, while Lydia lifted her hands up and shook her head.

"No, that is not happening, I am not involved in that!"

"You could cook the side-dishes," Stiles offered as he took one of the knives from a now startled Allison. "What? I'm literally the sheriff's son. In a small town with a forest. We've been going hunting together since I was little. I also know how to use a gun. Why are people surprised by that."

Allison simply offered a bemused smile and shook her head. "Shouldn't be. You're right."

After all, it was Allison's dad who had hooked him up with a gun and with wolfsbane bullets. And yes, the Argents had made him show that he knew how to use and take care of the gun before handing it to him. So she really shouldn't be surprised that he knew his way around game.

Derek was the first one to get out of the creek, mostly because the betas had started dunking each other and it was slowly escalating. Instead, he hurried back to his mate. It was ridiculous how much it had excited him when Stiles praised their hunt. But he'd brought fresh meat to his mate, it was the most classic wolf courting there was. Of course was his inner wolf happy that Stiles approved.

Returning early to the camp side proved to be a mistake. Stiles was butchering the meat. There was something so primal to watching Stiles do that, it took everything for Derek to not pounce right then and there. Instead, he stood with his arms crossed, fingers digging into his biceps to keep himself from touching Stiles. His mate was preparing the meat Derek had hunted for him.

"Stop just standing there glaring, Sourwolf," Stiles didn't even look up from his task. "You can start seasoning the meat that's already cut and put the first steaks up. The man of the house mans the grill. Or, in this case, the Alpha of the pack mans the fire."

Grunting, Derek did as he was told. At one point, that was going to give him away. At one point, someone in the pack – most likely Lydia, she was the most observant of them – was going to notice that Derek tended to agree with Stiles and let Stiles tell him what to do. The stronger the bond between them grew, the more Derek's inner wolf wanted to please Stiles. Not in irrational manners, he would never agree to something that he genuinely opposed to. But he suspected that the bond worked two ways, it put them both more in tune with each other.

"Oh, that smells so good," Scott groaned pleased as him and the betas approached.

"And that actually looks… edible," Jackson looked doubtful as he stared over Lydia's shoulder.

The redhead huffed offended and slapped his chest. "I can heat things up, Jackson."

A lopsided grin stretched over Jackson's face as he nuzzled her neck. Those two, Derek was never going to understand. Then again, him and Stiles tended to argue a lot too, about stupid things. Derek's eyes were drawn to his mate's neck. How much he'd like to nuzzle Stiles' neck with as much ease. Coat Stiles in his scent, so everyone would know that Stiles was his. If only he could gather the courage to tell Stiles. But their relationship was filled with so much early antagonism and stumbling points, Derek didn't think Stiles could ever feel that way about him. Especially since Stiles was human, he didn't have to be stuck with Derek – and Derek knew Stiles could do so much better than the emotionally constipated Alpha.

Hello. I'm back with my Macau bullshit. This time: the difference between his relationship with Pete and his relationship with Porsche (because if I don't scream about Pete and Porsche and the parallels between them, I can't function as a human being apparently.) Ok so, first things first. I am aware that I may be comparing apples and oranges here. Besides the fact that they're both bodyguards of the main family and very close to Kinn, there's not really anything else tying them together in regards to their relationship with Macau. But here's the thing. That's what I care about. What circumstances make Macau act like the devilish little gremlin that he is VS the compliant and polite son of the minor family. And my boys are perfect for the job. (The post will be split into 2 parts because I guess I had a LOT to say about Porsche and Macau so, Pete and Macau will be explored in another one)

Ok. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we did NOT get enough Macau in the show. He had like, what, 5 scenes total? HOWEVER, the scenes we got were spectacular for a gazillion reasons but I'll choose to focus on a specific aspect of them for this post: Most, if not all of his scenes, were either from Porsche's or Pete's POV. And that's giving us a lot. Let's start with Porsche. He - and the audience, remember, most of this show is through Porsche's POV so that's important - meets Macau like he actually is; a typical teenager. He's moody, rude and doesn't want to deal with Porsche's bullshit. (Although, one could argue he was extra antsy because they were at the main family's house, which I choose to believe due to how the minor family is treated by their relatives.) Their first scene, accompanied by the scene in which he goes to Gun and calls Porsche out in front of everyone is Macau being sincere. It actually is him, and it's tragic as well as amazing how he's never himself again in front of Porsche for the rest of the show. Because the next time we see Macau with Porsche, it's in ep 7, when Vegas has his plans with Porsche to execute and Macau has to follow along. BUT, Porsche gets to have a glimpse of the real Macau in this exchange:

(Vegas' smile is KILLING me OMG, he loves his brother SO MUCH, I'M CHEWING GLASS AS WE SPEAK-) Porsche never gets to see Macau's actual face in this (maybe a glimpse from above but with difficulty) but his voice betrays his happiness at seeing his brother and from the answer he gives. Aaaall of that fades away when the bodyguards sit down. Macau turns quiet and polite, keeping appearances because they have guests, and we have him welcoming all of them, and Porsche, like this:

The show knows we the audience - and Porsche - remember what has happened between the two, so Macau saying "Hello" to Porsche carries significance here. GOD, I wish I could make gifs because, after that, after the camera stops focusing on Macau's face, you get him blurred in the background and the boy is SO uncomfortable by what's happening. His eyes dart left and right, mostly at Pete and Arm's direction - he fucking HEARS Arm's comment about "no surprise that the heirs of this family turn out like this" and he SIGHS and looks downward and he STARES at Vegas' direction when he spews his bullshit about how the minor family treats their bodyguards. My boy is PRESENT in the discussion and he hates every second of it. Isn't it spectacular then, how the next scene between him and Porsche, is the one in which Macau apologizes? I love the fact that he calls him Phi. It's so good, because in my eyes Porsche doesn't even deserve it. He never apologized for what he did to Macau. He did, to Vegas, but not to Macau himself. So, the respect Macau shows to him is so fake I could cry from laughter.

He finds him trying to get on Vegas' motorcycle and touches him and urges him to ride it. "I know you like motorcycles," he says, like that's a normal thing to know and not something Vegas told him to say because VEGAS is the one who knows.

I'm dying over here, truly. Macau is amazing and it hurts as much as it's funny, because Macau must be feeling so bad here imo. He's not an idiot, he knows Porsche was in the wrong and Vegas knows as well because LOOK AT HIS FUCKING FACE AS MACAU SAID THE THING:

This isn't a strict face, one that's like "that fucking kid, finally he learned how to apologize". This is a "the things I do for my plans to work" kind of face. Vegas used Macau here. And I'm convinced that he hated every second of witnessing this scene in front of him.

Also, I love how Macau is touchy with Porsche. Macau does show affection through touch, just like his brother does. It's evident by the hospital scene with Pete and the scene above with Vegas when they talked + the scene in ep 2, in which he stretched his arm in Vegas' direction. But, just like Vegas, he uses that in his advantage to get what he wants here. What Vegas wants from him to get, which is, Porsche's trust. And, if any audience member actually believed for even a second that Macau was sincere here, then comes this to show them that NOPE, the boy doesn't believe his words in the slightest:

It's easier to see in motion but Macau's shy grin as he sees Vegas in front of him, shows you everything you need to know about the sincerity of his words. And even if THAT wasn't enough, you have Vegas confirming your suspicions with his words:

Oh, Vegas, you scheming bastard. You wanted your plan to work so badly, you used even Macau for it. I wonder if that kept you up at night. This whole scene was so...Vegas coded? It felt like Macau adapted Vegas' methods of seduction with Porsche here, didn't it? Actual Macau would never do any of that and it's incredible how Porsche only saw that version of Macau after ep 2. It makes you wonder; what did Porsche see and hear from Macau during that one-month period before the show finale, a period of time in which Vegas was fighting for his life + Porsche had just gained Vegas' right as the heir of the minor family? How was Macau's behavior then? I really wish we got to know, because Macau showing his true self to Porsche again due to circumstance is very appealing to me. Porsche&Macau in general is a relationship dynamic I haven't seen people talk about at all, which is strange due to their canonical scenes. Oh well. Another excuse to write essay long posts on Tumblr, I guess.

So they're two minor side characters from the Thai bl series KinnPorsche, also known as The Gay Mafia Show. At the beginning of the series Big is the head bodyguard for Kinn, who he is secretly (and quite hopelessly) in love with and who is the heir to the family's mafia empire. He is Loyal with a capital L, fiercely protective of Kinn, a little (a lot) pathetic in his devotion and quite frankly a bit of a dick. Ken is just Ken his best friend, also a bodyguard for the Main Family and also a bit of a dick. He's from Australia originally and brings us delightful iconic phrases like "nice one, loser" and "are you fucking dumb, bro". Also, pineapple boxer briefs. You mostly see the two of them together and when they show up it's usually to be a bitch and/or to bully Porsche, who is the other main character and love interest for Kinn (hence the name of the show).

They're terrible people is what I'm saying. But then again so is almost everyone else on the show lmao it's the mafia ok!!

It's never explicitly stated in the show but we see other bodyguards room together (namely Porsche and Pete) so the widely accepted headcanon is that Ken and Big are roommates (oh my god they were roommates etc etc) and just because I live for this kind of thing I have convinced myself (and others, apparently! through the power of art) that while Big is hopelessly in love with Kinn (canon), Ken is hopelessly in love with Big (canon in my heart). It's about the pining and the tragedy and a secret third thing (jealousy) for me

Well. I don't want to spoil too much in case you're ever planning on watching it but it's kind of important for them, so ... towards the end of the show Big ends up sacrificing himself for Porsche (or rather, for Kinn's happiness) and dies not knowing that Ken is the mole they've been searching for and is actually working for the Minor Family (so, for Kinn's cousin and uncle who are the main villains in the series). But Ken is killed as well, at roughly the same time just at a different place and at the hand of his actual employer Gun, so they both end up dead.

Which, you know, I personally think is unacceptable because I love them and don't want it to end there, so most (but not all) of my art is set in an AU that I brainstormed with my partner @pharawee in which they both survive and then have to deal with the consequences of their actions (which is absolutely delicious to me because man!! You have Big who is so desperately loyal but has been kind of struggling to find his place now that Porsche is there, and Ken who betrayed everything Big held dear but !! Is also his best friend!!! But is he really? Has he ever really been his friend at all?? And if Ken is a traitor what does that make him who has been sharing everything with him?? Bonus points since Ken is in love with him and never wanted to betray Big personally. So much potential for angst I am telling you, it's a feast), and then eventually they find comfort in each other and carve out their own path. If you're interested you can read the beginning on ao3.

In other headcanons there's been a Thing going on between them all along and sometimes they still die. Or they don't but everything is still fucked up. Either way it's all good and I'm here for all of it hehe

Mafia Boys & Gifts As Manipulation

Okay so I need somewhere else to exorcise my Kinnporsche brain rot, and I guess that’s you fine people. So I submit my thesis of this post: 

In episode 7, we see Vegas, Kinn, & Kim all give a gift as a way to manipulate the recipient. 

One of the writers (who are trash people) are very smart to do is to echo certain beats with characters through their action to hammer a point home. A good example is Kinn kissing a drunk Porsche at the end of E3 and then sleeping with a drugged Porsche at the end of E4 -both acts of physical... attraction performed while Porsche is unable to fully consent but the latter having far more serious consequences. 

The manipulative gift giving in E7 really hammers home that Vegas, Kinn, & Kim really are FAR MORE ALIKE than any of them would like to think. But its all about lenses. 

So lets look at it:

Vegas:

Let's start with the most obvious example, shall we? 

Vegas spends this entire episode pseudo-courting Porsche. Both to mess with Kinn, and to get a competent man in the Minor Family’s control (likely under his father’s orders), Vegas is going to use what he knows of Porsche to win him over. Including this gorgeous bike. Vegas explicitly frames Porsche getting the bike as a reward for a job goes well. That, by its very nature, makes it not truly a gift. Instead its payment, a carrot dangled above Porsche's head. Also, on top of Vegas just knowing that Porsche likes motorcycles, I think this serves as a reminder of their little motorcycle ride date back from E5 when Vegas was around to (seemingly) provide comfort when Kinn was not. Basically, Vegas is saying, “Look what I can give you, look at how much fun we can have together, and look at how well I know you but you just got to do this one thing for me and you can have all of it.”

For the record, I do think Vegas genuinely likes Porsche, and is probably physically attracted to him. Everything he does in this episode and beyond is absolutely a power play, with Porsche just being another piece on the chess board in the game of domination Vegas is constantly trying to play with Kinn, but, unlike his thin veiled contempt for Tawan, Vegas seems to truly enjoy spending time around Porsche. I always think back to that hug they shared and how Vegas just sort of melted into it. It’s hard to fake that sort of react. 

Maybe in a different life, they could have been actual friends.

In hindsight, I do wonder how much about the bodyguards all being happy and Vegas caring about them is a show and how much of it is real. Vegas definitely wants to frame life at the Minor Family as a better alternative to serving the Major Family, but we also know that Vegas is not incapable of caring about the people around him. In fact, he’s something he desperately wants to be good at. 

On a side note, we also get the case of Vegas giving the pork skewer to Pete. It's a small thing, and probably also manipulation, but with how important food becomes in their relationship, I think it's worth noting.

Kinn:

I almost hesitate to call this manipulation, because this moment is really just so sweet. So instead I'll discuss how Vegas uses the bike as a reward while Kinn uses his favorite gun as an excuse. For these two knuckleheads, E7 is a transitional period. E6 had them admitting for their attraction and affection for each other, and the Side Story had them cementing that what they had in the woods isn't going away, but E7 here is them trying to figure out what this new dynamic means and how it can exist back in the “real world.”

Kinn is not ready to say “I love you” verbally to Porsche yet. He cannot fully put his trust in Porsche just yet. After everything with Taiwan, and just well his entire life, all the jealousy and insecurity and possessiveness is coming out in full force. Not to mention, Kinn is stuck at home recovering from his injuries, likely making him feel useless. Plus, he has to at least have a suspicion that Vegas was the one who drugged and took Porsche back in E4 -on top of actively plotting to take Porsche away now.

Yet Kinn also knows he needs to be careful. Even if he can't say those things, he knows he at least needs to give something up or risk Porsche pulling away. Specifically, pulling towards Vegas. So he gives Porsche’ his gun, the one Kinn always keeps on him. It's Kinn’s way of saying, “even if I can't be with you in person, this gun is my way of being with you in spirit.”

Then he tells Porsche that Porsche has to come back so he can return Kinn’s gun. Now this is a fun little gray area, because Kinn IS able to say Porsche needs to come back to him -not why, mind you, he’s not their yet. But Kinn is trying his best. Unlike Vegas, who views Porsche as part of a game, Ken sees Porsche as the prize at the end of the game. The only thing that matters. The thing Kinn wants to get above all, no matter what he has to sacrifice.

I love this whole interaction because it just runs the gauntlet of emotions. It's sweet, it's sappy, it's funny, it's flirty, and it's a little tense. Overall, it's a good example of both Kinn’s own emotional limitations, and Kinn trying his damnedest to show how he feels since he's not great at putting things into words. And if that involves a little manipulation, well there are probably worse things in the world.

Also I think it is really funny that this entire scene and the situation with the gun is very reminiscent of the concept of the Lady’s Favor. That being where noble women would give Knights a personal token, usually a handkerchief or a ribbon, when they went off to do something dangerous as both a token of their affections and to make the Knight promise to come back. The promise, of course being so that the Knight would stay safe, and so the Knight would have an excuse to visit their Lady again.

Kim:

The Kimchay relationship is interesting because it somehow manages to be both the most wholesome while also being the most duplicitous. One of the things that makes all three of the major couples in this series interesting (or controversial, depending on who you ask) is that there is a very clear uneven power dynamic. Kinn is Porsche’s boss and a mafia leader, and Vegas literally has Pete chained up in his house -you can't get much more even than that. And yet, both of them are in a situation in which the power dynamic difference is obvious. That's not the case with Kimchay. While it's true that there is the obvious unbalance of the Idol/Fan dynamic, and the age gap being jussssst wide enough that Kim and Chay are at different points in their developmental adult life, the real power dynamic difference comes from the fact that this entire relationship is built flat on a lie. It is a lie that Kim himself eventually comes to love and wish was true, but not one that could have ever been sustained.

There are a lot of really great metas out there about how Kim is actually the most dangerous of his brothers, and is far more willing to coldly manipulate and act for his goal, and you see a lot of that these early interactions with Chay. 

At this point, I think it's safe to say that while Kim may think Chay is cute and sweet, and is charmed by him despite himself, Chay is still just a means to the end within his investigation. He's also completely aware a Chay’s infatuation with him and is using that to get through the door of Chay’s life and house -quite literally.

If the motorcycle was a reward from Vegas, and the gun was an excuse from Kinn, I'd say that Kim is using the guitar as almost a form of payment. A way of further buying Chay's trust and good nature. He may have even specifically brought it as a way to override Chay questioning why Kim knew where he lived. 

And yet it's also important to point out that this episode is a turning point in their relationship, just like it is for KinnPorsche. Before this, Chay was a tool, if a very charming one. Kim doesn't even really have the patience with him to wait for Chay to finish talking and expressing his doubt about accepting the guitar before asking to use the bathroom. Not to mention further taking advantage of Chay’s feelings for him in order to get Chay out of the house so Kim could investigate the Mysterious Locked Room.

But then Kim finds the Idol Wall, and everything changes. I am 100% convinced that is the moment where Kim not only knows that Chay has nothing to do with any potential mafia dirty business, but also when Kim starts feeling some guilt over his manipulation of Chay. Both of which should make him immediately back off, and we see in the next episode that that is sort of what he does, but his initial response is instead to engage further -even outright flirting with the implicit promise of further contact with the two,  even though it actually doesn't have any merit at this point. 

Basically, this is when Chay starts to become REAL to Kim.

A fairly happy couple this week, they seem to be on the same page now. Adorable kisses and a little date with a slight punishment for the fact Teena didn't confess his main goal was to take his virginity and Zouey had to hear that from Soong at the party.

Revenge Rating: Holy Shit you bitch that was uncalled for

First continues to be a blubbering mess in private. So Soong catfishes him into visiting a hotel to meet up. I do like the fact we got a little confo on their dynamic. Like we all kinda knew but First is the Power Bottom Sadistic Dom we all thought and Soong is the submissive top.

But I have to say that I'm pissed at First. He may be upset and Soong may be into pain but that was too far. Then the cash throw. Fucking harsh.

Captain & Keen

Revenge Rating: Bitch you never learn put that camera down

I constantly tip between loving and hating Captain. I love his little adorable face even when being a brat but then he does something stupid and I want to smack him. Then it starts again. And Keen is down so bad for him. Jesus Captain just date the boy already.

Keen secretly taking care of Captain, you know he's spirited that towel away to sniff later. They confess to each other but Captain the complete idiot breaks out the camera again. I see a pattern.

Porsche & Jump

Revenge Rating: Oh how the Turns have Tabled, and I feel guilty

First off called it. I knew this would be down to Jump finding out about Porsches Daddy. But I was HUGELY surprised to see them cuddled up together. So Jump finds out about Porsches Daddy, Leverages it against him and treats him like shit to the point Porsche is left crying and with a first aid kit.

So invested in this now. Like I been wishing for Porsche to get his comeuppance but now I just feel sorry for him. He is clearly trapped and Jump was his one outlet but because of his shitty attitude, Jumps turned on him.

Aob & Puen

Revenge Rate: No revenge just self flagellation

Well that threesome went EXACTLY how I thought it would. Aob ignores the client and is totally focused on Puen. Then blames Puen. Your game is slipping my man. Puen gets to be a little shit about it. Good for him.

Phop & Nuth

Revenge Rating: Nont is a coming

They are living in their little dream world. Happy little camera dates and getting to know each other better. Realising they don't have to have sex to be happy they can do other things. Adorable really.

Shame Nont busts in to ruin it all

Some gunplay and then Prom pretty much declares he's in love with Nont without actually saying it. Later Nont admits he's going to break his heart. See Vicious.

Okay so I will ADMIT that A Boss and a Babe was kind of a mess in the back half, plot-wise. What's most frustrating is that with a few fairly minor changes it could have all flowed together fine and not required this sad little disclaimer in front of what's about to be a post full of praise.

BECAUSE

I don't know what to tell y'all, I still love this show very very much. Looking back at my notes from the GMMTV 2023 showcase, this is one I wasn't even planning to watch, because it looked super cutesy and I'm bored by the "cold-hearted boss meets sunshine employee, learns how to smile" trope. I don't remember what got me to try it after all, but I can tell you the exact moment I really sat up and took notice: it was near the end of ep 1, when they do a classic "bump into you at the door and you half-fall into my arms" bit. Cher's eyes in that moment are doing SO much - there's the comic shock you expect, but underneath there's this startled vulnerability and a bit of awareness that falls just shy of arousal. I was intrigued.

Book as Cher was giving a layered performance from the beginning, making it clear that there's a lot more going on than just a chipper intern, and as the series progresses we get to see how much darkness he's covering with that upbeat energy. The script wobbles but his performance, and the full sense of Cher as a person, stays on point and rock-solid throughout. He's one of my favorite characters to come out of this year so far, and that's a highly competitive field.

Gun balances Cher perfectly. He was never cold-hearted, just sad and lonely and resigned to staying that way. It's Cher's relentless optimism that wakes him up to the possibility of happiness, but once he's awake it's his steady certainty that becomes an anchor against all Cher's anxieties. He's older, he's experienced, he knows himself and what he wants, and that enables him to make space for Cher to run in circles until he can finally settle down by Gun's side. I've talked before about how their dynamic feels like dancing, and I stand by that, even if the writing of the final third took them through some unnecessarily convoluted steps.

Some BLs are just romances that happen to be about two boys, and some feel distinctly queer, and ABAAB is the latter. Gun and Cher are both recognizable types: the older sadder gay man who holds himself back from life because he's learned to expect loss, and the staunch "ally" who hasn't yet clocked his own bisexuality. And then there are the side characters: Three and Zo, a longterm happy couple who act as a model for what Gun and Cher can hope for, and Porsche, the ex-turned-best-friend. When I talk about recognizable types... the ex to bestie pipeline is SO REAL in queer circles and you never see it in dramas. Porsche's whole introductory scene had me crowing with delight. (I also loved the implication that Porsche and his new boyfriend have some kind of open situation, and that his and Gun's different feelings on exclusivity were one reason they broke up. Again, SUCH a real dynamic.)

What can I say? My love for the characters and relationships is big enough to overshadow most of the plot problems: I really loved this show. It made me happy (almost) every week, and it's going on my rewatch rotation for any time I want to smile.

Ooohhhh this is a good one… I only write fics in my head so this is mostly just daydreams disjsk. For happy/excited ever since KimNorthSonic occurred to me they’ve been living in my head rent free. For cuckoo-bananas…. Like a few months ago me and @bunnakit riffed abt Chen Yi and Ai Di from Kiseki: Dear to Me having a child together during the prison years and how that would effect them and I haven’t been able to stop thinking abt it since. Also Porsche and Chay as Gun’s basement nephews (similar but different to attic wife) always and forever

The Non-Newtonian Newborn: Chapter 4 Preview

There are perks to being in a secret, passionate, and romantic love affair with your longtime bodyguard and now the head of security.

For one, Arm has access to information about Pa, Kinn, Kim, and several extended family members that Tankhun may have not been privy to otherwise.

Arm also now has access to a phone that sends out notifications every time a security point is walked through. They conveniently silence most of the pointless checkpoints on date nights, making sure to only be interrupted if someone might possibly interrupt them.

Arm also doesn't keep things from him like past guards have. He never has unless he thought the news would truly traumatize Tankhun. He trusts Arm to keep him in the loop. Just because Tankhun lost his role as heir back when he was a teenager doesn't mean he shouldn't know what's going on. He should still be prepared.

But normally when intel is passed onto him, Tankhun understands why. Simply hearing Pa invited Chay to lunch and Arm doesn't know the reason is odd, but it isn't a huge cause for concern. Pa does occasionally try to play nice with Porsche and Chay. Considering the man put a bullet through his younger brother’s skull and imprisoned his foster sister in a room for so long, he sure likes to keep up appearances. Besides, it is not the first time Pa has asked to meet with Chay. He asked to meet with him to discuss his college goals, likely to try and play the nurturing father figure role to a boy whose life was ripped out from underneath him. When Chay didn't take the bait on that, Pa took notice when it came to Chay’s quickly developing skills in training. He asked for a meeting to imply Chay could put those skills to use.

That went splendidly with Porsche. Tankhun supposes he is glad Kinn rushed in to quickly nip that proposition in the bud. Porsche may have done much worse. While Porsche has the right to do such a thing, Tankhun wouldn't want to deal with the inevitable therapy and varying manifestations of complex grief that would transpire from both of his younger brothers should their father die. For real, this time. If Pa fakes his death again, that might be even more damaging to Tankhun’s psyche, not to mention damaging to his opinion of him.

So while Tankhun is curious about this lunch, he assumes it isn't anything urgent, not until his phone rings and Arm’s voice is on the other line.

“I am watching the security footage. Your father is pointing a gun at Chay and has his guards doing the same. I am about to go down there to try and de-escalate whatever is happening.”

Tankhun jumps to his feet, “Don't you dare! If Pa is set on murder, he will calmly kill almost anyone who gets in his path, but he will hesitate more if it's me!”

At least Tankhun would like to think so. He was Pa's favorite for the longest time, at least until he became traumatized and overly defiant. But Uncle Gun was also traumatized and defiant in his own way. Pa killed him.

No. Pa isn't going to kill any of his sons. He isn’t that terrible. Probably.

“I'm going to be on standby, Khun,” Arm says, “And get more audio surveillance installed as soon as I can.”

Tankhun lets out a huff as he rushes through the door, “Fine! But stay out of sight! I'm not having Pa target you! He shouldn't be targeting Chay either! Porsche will be livid! Kim may be too! They spent the morning together shopping for Achara!”

“Kim’s in the room. I don't think he was invited, but he is sitting with the baby. He doesn't look happy with your father.”

So much drama.

“I’ll handle it,” Tankhun says, then hangs up the phone. Whatever Chay did does not constitute Pa threatening him. If Khun didn't know any better, he would say Pa is acting emotionally. That isn't something Pa does. His threats are very well planned out and frequently carried out - if not in the moment, then later on. But he can't do that to Chay. Tankhun can't think of one thing to kill Chay over! Is it frustrating he is avoidant about college? Yes. But the poor boy went through so much and that is largely Pa’s fault.

Porsche did mention that Chay hangs out with Macau, that they game together. Apparently, Porsche set that up when his attempt to get Kim and Chay to hang out with each other never played out. What if Chay and Macau are involved with each other and Pa found out? Pa may think that Chay has aligned himself with Vegas.

But Tankhun chatted with Pete just last week. He said Vegas was helping his maternal grandmother move back to Thailand so they could open a restaurant together. He also mentioned Vegas was teaching English as a second language online to keep himself occupied until then. Pete claimed they were both really happy.

So maybe Macau is the criminal mastermind now and seduced Chay.

It sounds incredibly unlikely and dumb. Macau never had any interest in the family business, that is just a piece of common knowledge everyone across the board has known. Tankhun also believes Macau may be straight. Such a black sheep, that one. Kim could only dream of not fitting in that much.

Tankhun needs to focus. He will figure out what's going on when he gets there, considering none of his theories make sense at all.

By the time he arrives, the guns are dismantled and across the room. It seems like a strange place to put them, even though Tankhun is relieved they are no longer being pointed at anyone. Kim’s chair is so close to Chay’s chair that their sides are touching, and Tankhun can hear the sound of gurgling but doesn't see Achara.

“Why wasn't I invited to lunch?!” Tankhun huffs, making himself known as he stomps into the room to sit on the other side of the table to Pa’s right. It's only then he sees Achara, her face partially revealed as she lies against Kim’s chest, nestled in a sling wrap.

Tankhun would have bought him that!

But chewing his little brother out over it can wait.

“What's going on?” Tankhun asks, looking at the three of them, “Things seem tense and there is no food. This is an awful lunch. Pa, if you need help with throwing a proper mini-luncheon, all you need to do is ask for my help, okay? This isn't it.”

Pa says nothing, his eyes still on Chay as Chay meets his gaze head on.

“I knew nothing about this,” Chay tells him, “I wouldn't even know how to go about making this happen.”

“It was my stalker, Pa. Her name is Hom,” Kim says, “I don't know why you are suddenly so…protective of me-”

“You're my son,” Pa says stiffly, “Of course I am protective of you. This…event has caused physiological and emotional changes in you that are disturbing. This is unnatural, concerning, and should have never happened-”

“Yeah, but it did,” Kim cuts in, “And it wasn't Chay’s fault. He wasn't even there when Achara…apparently came to be. If anything, it was my fault. I broke the egg in an attempt to piss Hom off and it gave me a newborn instead.”

Immediately, Kim looks down at the newborn in question, “But I'm so happy that you're here. You're my little girl-”

“Kim,” Pa cuts in briskly, interrupting the bizarre, yet tender moment, “This was a…crime against you. And the fact Porchay came up as a fifty percent match for your baby tells me he was involved.”

“I think it is much more likely that what Hom set up is a crime against him too,” Kim tells him.

Meanwhile, Tankhun is just…processing. Fifty percent? DNA? Chay?

“Chay is the father?!” Tankhun shouts, standing up. Finally, people are paying attention to him as all heads in the room turn to him.

“Yes. The infirmary got word this morning,” Pa says, speaking first, “I went down there to see how things were coming along. I happened to have good timing, because matches had popped up in the system just a few minutes before my arrival. I had the staff cross examine the matches by hand. Only Doctor Saelim, Raj, Jake, and myself are aware of this development.”

Chay crosses his arms over his chest, “And now I am too. I want to leave. I want to spend time with my daughter.”

Pa turns his scrutinizing gaze onto Chay, while Kim looks at him in surprise. Since everyone else is looking at Chay, Tankhun does too. He looks stubborn and fiery, just like his brother.

Pa clenches his jaw, “The fact that you aren't shocked or in denial tells me you were well aware-”

“I wasn't well aware, but I have felt weirdly connected to her since last night and that feeling grew exponentially when I first held her this morning!” Chay snaps, causing both Tankhun and Kim to jerk back, “It is far from ideal. Achara shouldn't have been forced to enter the world in the way that she was. But she is here and she is loved, and now this paper is telling me she's half mine. Kim and I have to talk about what that means so we can successfully co-parent together.”

…Tankhun is thrilled he came to this lunch. This is the best compound drama he has encountered in MONTHS. And besides, this could be so much worse. Kim could have just found out his soulmate was a complete stranger or someone he couldn't stand! While Chay and Kim only started hanging out yesterday, they bonded fast and Chay has been able to get through to him in a way no one else has yet been able to. Tankhun should have known he was the most likely choice.

“He didn't cause this, Pa,” Kim reiterates, standing up with his steady hands around Achara, “If you're done with your threats, then Chay and I want to leave. Try to…calm down. You think the fact I can breastfeed is weird, but you being this emotional-”

“Kim,” Pa says, an aura of warning lacing his tone.

“I'm serious. Calm down. That's not only Kinn’s boyfriend’s brother, but your granddaughter’s father. And he doesn't have powers or any shaman connections, at least that I know of. Be kind and courteous to him, thanks. Chay, come on.”

With that, Kim, Chay, and Achara leave the room.

How are they taking this so well? Has Kim thought of the implications of what Achara’s parentage means? The universe clearly expects them to be together. Achara is proof of that. Does Kim even realize that Chay is his soulmate? Does he want him to be?

Maybe his little brother has already developed a crush.

Tankhun can't wait to gossip about this.

“No spreading this around,” Kim says, popping his head back in, “Chay and I will figure out how to tell people.”

He's SO annoying.

“Kinn is the one who ordered the DNA sweep,” Tankhun says, “The estimated wait time for it to go through the entire database was two days. You have until tomorrow until he figures out a match was found.”

“Hm,” Kim hums, nodding his head, “Guess we’ll tell him and Porsche today then.”

“Guess you will. I will be right there to support you and Chay through that huge announcement.”

“I'm sure that's the only reason.”

“It is!”

Kim rolls his eyes but leaves the dining room once more. Upon his departure, Tankhun studies his father and decides to show him some empathy and pity by patting his hand.

“It’ll be okay, Pa. I understand where your concern was coming from. But Chay has nothing to do with how this happened. He has simply gained a daughter by existing as collateral damage. He's been very helpful, comforting, and supportive to Kim though! I think this is a good thing, those two being matched by cosmic forces.”

Pa, however, says nothing. Tankhun tried his best. Off course, everyone’s best has rarely been quite good enough for Pa, even though he doesn't always say as much.

Maybe he should let Pa beat him at chess to make him feel better.

“A game while we wait for the food?” Tankhun asks, walking over to the chess table, “Come on! A quick one! I bet I can beat you in less than five minutes.”

And since Pa hates and loves when people challenge him, he makes his way over to the game.

Kinn raises an eyebrow at him, waiting for an explanation. His hand strokes gently on Porsche’s neck. Porsche smiles blandly as he takes the glass, swirls it gently around, and then tips half of it into his mouth in one go.

Kinn jerks, an aborted motion, grabbing Porsche’s wrist—but he’s too late.

“Kinn,” Mr. Porsche answers cheerfully. “We were just waiting for you.”

ayyyyy its my boys!! who i also usually make cry and hug their brothers 😶 it's kinda funny for me, all my fic plots involve getting Kinn and Porsche to a happy ending, but i really had to think on what their happy end would actually entail 😂 so many things wrapped up in brothers and friends... but i knew i had some laying around somewhere tho, so;

i have very, very, very strong feelings about Kinn taking the family mafia business, dropping the drugs, and taking it to shady legal business. Kinn doesn't want to run the mafia, none of them want to run the fucking mafia, and he will have an epiphany sometime shortly after (or right before) Korn chokes that he doesn't have to keep his father's shitty legacy. i'm getting off topic--my point is that Kinn drops the mafia like a hot potato, all the boys go on to live lives without the fucking mafia, and Kinn discovers the wonders of getting to hire assistants who are trained as assistants not bodyguards and the glorious wonder of emails. Kinn fucking loves emails. remember when he shot that accountant in episode 1? Kinn's internal dialogue was "why the fuck did i have to come for this, this could've been an email." now he can send emails and hold zoom calls instead of going to meetings with homophobic jackasses that point guns at him and it's amazing.

right, back on track: i also have very, very, very strong feelings about how goofy Kinn and Porsche are together. they're two boys who have always had too much responsibility on their shoulders, and i love that Kinn feels safe with Porsche to be a goof. he dances like a dork in the club, gets farted on underneath the sheets, flirts almost exclusively in gun puns. Porsche is so, so unbelievably fond of this fool, he wants to bundle him up in his pocket to keep for the next 50, 60, 100 years--he'll never have enough of him.

"but wait!!" you cry, dismayed. "if they drop the mafia, how will Kinn know how to flirt!!"

never fear!!!! Kinn might not have gunfire to set the scene anymore, but he has BUSINESS PICKUP LINES

"don't they have programs for this," Porsche teases the next time Kinn works through lunch. "i don't believe in automation, i'm all hands on," Kinn retorts before fucking him against the window.

"hard at work?" Porsche asks, taking up as much space as he can find on Kinn's desk like a brat. "hmm, i'm a little stuck--want to assist me with this insertion order?" Kinn asks, reaching for his zipper.

"enterprise THIS," Kinn says while grabbing Porsche's ass, which makes zero sense but Porsche doesn't even care.

each line is terrible. Porsche falls for every single one of them. he complains extensively about it, then turns around and hits Kinn with "all this problem solving has me wanting to create problems" and gets railed in the conference room.

vegaspete theater au

vegas is an extremely competent, extremely tired stage manager on a theater production that is just on the threshold of being a complete disaster. (vegas is the single piece of duct tape holding it all together. he knows this. he also knows he won't get a single bit of acknowledgement over it and he will die mad about it, thank you).

featuring:

kinn as director (vegas hates every single artistic decision he's made, and he can't do shit about it because the play is being bankrolled by korn)

porsche as main lead (clearly the only thing saving this production, if only the director would stop wasting all of their time by flirting with him, goddammit. these actors are on equity! we can't just extend rehearsal time every time you two get lost in each other's eyes! vegas is ready to murder someone, and that someone is kinn)

tankhun as costume designer (tankhun is cheerfully ignoring the color-coded budget vegas handed him, and once again vegas can do shit-all to stop him, so the props department is eating the cost and they are so tilted about it. the costumes look great tho.)

kim is also an actor, and he's absolutely infuriating to work with (self-explanatory)

tawan is also an actor, and it's very terrible for everyone until he gets himself booted off the production, thank god

chay as assistant sound designer (also serial flirting during business hours. vegas cannot believe it is working on kim, certified world's biggest asshat)

macau on set construction, because thinking about macau with a saw makes me happy

and, of course, pete. lighting designer, moonlights as a techie when one of their techies ragequits and another falls extremely ill two weeks before opening. always responds to vegas's emails promptly, has all of his lighting cues well in order, helps the techies fix some of the older lighting equipment that they have to use in lieu of new equipment (maybe if people FOLLOWED THE BUDGET-). spends two sleepless nights holed up with vegas in the tech booth redoing half of the lighting cues when kinn decides to reblock all of act 2 during tech week (someone give vegas a gun. please, dear god. he only needs to use it once.)

vegas doesn't really notice him too much early on, but notes in the back of his mind that pete is trustworthy and competent. and then the nightmare that is tech week happens, and pete saves everybody's asses multiple times over. and during that brutal double all-nighter, sleep-deprived vegas finds a kindred soul in pete, and it's over for both of them.

after opening night, which somehow is not the worst production vegas has stage managed in his whole life, vegas and pete have thank-god-everything-worked sex backstage, and pete hands him some of the rope they use for rigging so that vegas can tie him up, and vegas is so fucking grateful for this shit production, if only because he got a pete out of it.
