Oh lord, new idea that popped into my head regarding kinky alien headcanon shenanigans (try saying that five times fast): foods that aren't the nicest to human stomachs, but with a twist. Turns out that they're stubborn for anyone to digest, including the species that natively eat them.

Picturing a scenario with myself and my fave. He's gone out for a bit, but allowed me to chill in his room while I wait for him to return. I'm a little hungry, so I grab some food from his fridge- I'm not totally sure what it is, but it looks tasty and isn't something I've ever seen on the list of foods humans should avoid. I take a bite, and it's good...

Ten minutes later, though, he returns to find me sprawled out on his couch, moaning between belches as I rub my bloated belly. The half-finished plate is next to me, and he instantly, chidingly, teasingly puts two and two together:

"My, it looks like someone's bitten off a little more than he can chew. What did I tell you about trying foods from the homeworld?"

"Not to- urrrrp- without asking first."

"Precisely. Had you waited just a little longer, I could have warned you this would happen... not that that would stop you in the end given that..." he gestures to me as I happily rub my belly and burp into my fist. "That this would happen." He sits down next to me, picking up the plate and taking a bite for himself. "You really ought to be more careful, though. You got lucky this time, but there are other dishes my people eat that would make any human quite sick!"

He pauses for a second, thumps his chest once, and belches loudly. Despite my soreness, I can't help but giggle. He smiles and winks, damn well knowing how hot I think he is in this moment.

"For that matter, though, this dish isn't as kind to us, either... perhaps not quite to your degree, but it still does odd things to our stomachs. Not that we're ones to complain about a little extra belching, though!"

He takes another bite for himself before reaching over to caress me, working up a sizeable belch in the process before belching again himself. Something was telling me today's fun was only just beginning...

As we know, p2 movie lore goes deep, and there's a small but fun tidbit I've been obsessing over lately.

In 2021, Pete shared on his podcast that he and Patrick "went and saw" the movie Josie and the Pussycats, and were SUPER into the music (which is valid - the soundtrack is an absolute BOP). So into it, in fact, that it influenced them to work with Babyface on IOH:

However, the movie came out on April 11th, 2001 (source). With FUTCT coming out in 2005 and IOH in 2007...that does not equate to Pete and Patrick being able to "go and see" the movie in a theater.

Therefore, this timeline doesn't make sense (typical)

Let's just get this out of the way now - yes, Pete is notoriously bad with dates and timelines (Mr. "I said I graduated high school in 2005 and my bandmates needed to correct me"). So, it's perfectly reasonable to think that he's just messing up the context and that they just watched this movie together at some point - probably on the bus while touring or something.

I'd argue, though, that Pete is VERY good with distinctly remembering impactful moments and bits that "spoke" to him at the time (Mr. "he was standing there in shorts, socks, and an argyle sweater").

Pete presents this story as him going to the theater with Patrick to see this movie and absolutely geeked out over the music. If that's how he remembers it, that indicates they went and saw it together when it released...in 2001.

This movie.

While the exact early-FOB timelines are unclear, it's highly probable they had met by the time it released. The movie was also in theaters for 37 weeks, so that provides a HUGE time range (April-December 2001) for this to have happened, and FOB was definitely...something...at that point.

(In my mind, I like to imagine that they went around Patrick's birthday, but I know that's likely the mold talking. In reality, they probably hit it up at the cheap-y theaters...which existed back then...such simpler times...)

If this is the case, then that makes this story even more insane to me. It means that, in 2001, p2 went and saw a movie together and it was so impactful to them that SIX YEARS LATER they maneuvered their success to work with the soundtrack's executive producer for their own album. What was it about seeing this movie together that it created that lasting of an impact?

I doubt it's the movie itself. It's campy, it's silly, it's fun. Genuinely a Y2K time capsule.

And, yes, the music is great! I've been bumping it during my commute recently and it's super fun. However, they've cited SO many other sources of inspiration, and it really is just like...fun pop-punk. It's not wildly different or unique. What was it about this that stuck with them?

I have no other choice but conclude that it's the MEMORY of this event for them that creates the significance of it. Hanging out in the early days, going to see this silly movie together (likely with full intention to make fun of it), and then being so into the music that they end up geeking out together. Thus adding more fuel to the fire of their creative spark and soulmate-ism that was, at the time, likely exciting and scary and confusing and UGH EMOTIONS!!!

I mean, how wouldn't that create a lasting memory you can recall the details of 20 years later?

Patrick has said (and it's also quite obvious) that Pete thinks and relates via movie references. So, of course he's going to remember this. Of course he's going to treasure the memories of hanging 1:1 with his favorite person in the entire world. Of course he's going to use his newfound fame so Patrick can work with the people who have inspired him.

Of course he's going to try and make the dreams they had in 2001 a reality.

"I got dreams of my own, but I want to make yours come true."
