Remember, we get Frankensteinâs point of view relayed secondhand through Walton, who has no previous knowledge of any of these events--Frankenstein himself claims thereâs something ineffably horrible about the monsterâs appearance. We get exactly one scene between the creature and anybody else not editorialized by Frankenstein, which comes only after Frankenstein has relayed his entire tale to Walton and they have become friends (with Walton clearly feeling entirely sympathetic to Frankensteinâs point of view).
Just before this scene, Frankenstein says,
Think not, Walton, that in the last moments of my existence I feel that burning hatred and ardent desire of revenge I once expressed; but I feel myself justified in desiring the death of my adversary. During these last days I have been occupied in examining my past conduct; nor do I find it blamable. In a fit of enthusiastic madness I created a rational creature and was bound towards him to assure, as far as was in my power, his happiness and well-being. This was my duty, but there was another still paramount to that. My duties towards the beings of my own species had greater claims to my attention because they included a greater proportion of happiness or misery. Urged by this view, I refused, and I did right in refusing, to create a companion for the first creature. He showed unparalleled malignity and selfishness in evil; he destroyed my friends; he devoted to destruction beings who possessed exquisite sensations, happiness, and wisdom; nor do I know where this thirst for vengeance may end. Miserable himself that he may render no other wretched, he ought to die. The task of his destruction was mine, but I have failed. When actuated by selfish and vicious motives, I asked you to undertake my unfinished work, and I renew this request now, when I am only induced by reason and virtue.
Frankenstein basically admits he had a duty to his creation, and he failed; but his only reason for reneging on that duty is for the creatureâs conduct after it has been abandoned and deceived; the creature is angry, and like so many villains in this kind of story, his anger and malice seems out of all proportion to wrong done to it, but that doesnât mean the original cause of the anger is unjust, or that Frankenstein actually acted rightly.
Because the creature is not a supernatural entity, and while in fantasy we might accept that a supernatural ugliness reflects a real spiritual or moral ugliness, I think itâs worth approaching the novel as the work of proto-science-fiction it is often taken as, given how clearly concerned it is with the scientific advancements of its period, and the fact that we get none of the other supernatural tropes we might associate with the fantastical side of the Gothic--there are no ghosts or demons, thereâs no appearance by the Devil like there is in The Monk; the creature himself is a product of science and reason. Insofar as its ugliness inspires violent hate, this is an excuse only to the extent that it is excusable that any physical ugliness in the world inspires violent hate--which is to say itâs not an excuse at all!Â
And this works quite neatly if we treat (one of) the novelâs theme(s) as âmanâs inhumanity to man.â How much human evil has been driven by instinctual disgust toward the objects hatred? Victorian physiognomists and phrenologists would later go on and on about the naturally uncouth and ugly appearance of all kinds of different ethnic groups and races; they would attempt to enshrine their aesthetic preferences as somehow reflecting not only both natural principles but objective moral truth, and the basis for everything from a right to empire to a right to annihilate their inferiors. I donât think the creatureâs malproportioned (so we are told) body is a flaw in reading Frankenstein as a metaphor for this kind of prejudice. I think it buttresses that reading quite neatly, in fact.
And Frankensteinâs ultimate justification for his conduct is that he has a greater duty to people like him than he does to humanlike creatures (however rational) whom he finds repulsive. Itâs not a stretch to read something like the Georgian seeds of Victorian race science into Frankensteinâs perspective. In fact I think it requires very little imagination at all, especially when you situate Frankenstein (the novel) within the Gothic tradition and Romanticism broadly, and you notice how instrumental Victorian race science and Romantic aesthetics of the 19th century were in the development of fascism in the 20th century. It would be anachronistic in the extreme to say âVictor Frankenstein is a fascist,â of course. But thereâs a connection there worth considering.
Do you think Frankenstein is about not meddling with nature, or is it about being unprepared and isolated from society?
I think Frankenstein is one of those thematically rich texts that you can get a number of very different interesting readings out of. It would be very difficult indeed to argue it was about only one thing. âDonât play god/meddle with natureâ is one reading, but in some ways itâs the least interesting one (cf. âCaveman Science Fictionâ), if only bc we have so few real opportunities to play God and most hand-wringing over the idea feels to me either contrived or like mundane technophobia.
Hereâs one reading: In Frankenstein, itâs made pretty clear that however horrified he is by it in retrospect, Victorâs act of creation isnât what rendered his creation monstrousâit was his subsequent cruelty and neglect. The âmonsterâ had in him all the capabilities of reason and perception, itâs just that Victorâs own revulsion kept him from seeing that. Thatâs not playing god and suffering the consequencesâthatâs being driven to hate your own offspring by the narrowminded moralism of your reactionary worldview. Frankensteinâs sin isnât inquiry, itâs fear of the result.
In that result we are shown a lesson society still refuses to internalize: monsters are made of men when we treat men like monsters. Nobody, not even an unnatural science experiment, is born monstrous so long as he has the capacity for reason (which the creature plainly does); only cruelty, born from the expectation of monstrosity, engenders it. Indeed I would argue we abuse and despise precisely those people we want good reason to hate: when they fulfill our expectations, we are pleased, seeing this as justification for our hatred from the beginning.
Frankenstein explores this dynamic in a one-to-one relationship, but of course it applies to social dynamics that appear at a much larger scale. The Frankensteins of this world will always misidentify their original sin as one of too much kindness or toleranceâas situated in the act of creation. This is ego flattering nonsense: âMy problem is that I have an overabundance of virtue.â Their real sin is perfectly ordinary fear and disgust, which was just looking for a target to fixate on.

Chapter 22: Star Death Reality Show (V)
What was happening? Feeling as though he was blindfolded, Qi Leren and He Yi looked at each other nervously.
"Mark? Are you all right?" He Yi also asked loudly.
There was still no sound in the room.
"Let's go in and have a look," He Yi said nervously.
Qi Leren's heart beat faster. According to the routine in horror games, the loud noise just now was likely an indication of danger, suggesting that Mark had met some big trouble inside.
Had he met the monster? Qi Leren became suspicious. From the task backgroundâs information, he clearly knew that the monster in the "glowing stone" had hatched by this time, although he wasnât sure whether this monster was a simple and rude physical attack type or a parasitic type like an alien. If it was the former, it would very likely eat people, and its target...
Qi Leren pulled out the knife assigned by the program company and said to He Yi: "Okay."
He Yi looked at the knife in his hand in surprise: "...Do you need a knife?"
Qi Leren was dazed and realized that he had overreacted a little. To an NPC, this copy task was just an ordinary reality show. They didn't know what they were going to face and they were unprepared for it.
"Be prepared." With a straight face and posing as an experienced leader, Qi Leren boldly pushed open the door, as there was no warning from [Rain-Day Laundry] in his card slot.
Mark had fallen not far from the door. There was no blood on the ground. Instead, there was a fallen bookshelf, from which a large stack of objects such as vases and books had fallen to the ground, along with the axe. Obviously, when the black man had come in he had stumbled and knocked over the bookshelf. He was probably hit on the head by something, shed a little blood, and suddenly fainted.
Qi Leren breathed through the corners of his mouth, put the knife back into the sheath as if nothing had happened, and leaned over and lifted the man up: "Come and give a hand."
He Yi also came to help, and the two men lifted the upper body and the lower body, and reluctantly put the big black uncle on the bed.
"Now what? Theyâre still waiting for us, " He Yi said.
Regardless of the obvious inhumanity of leaving someone unconscious aside, Qi Leren thought for a moment: "Well, you look after Mark here, I will take the axe over, and then Iâll call Dr. Lu... Er, I mean Lu Cangshu."
He Yi smiled: "I know, I heard that his dream is to be a doctor, so his nickname is Dr. Lu."ă
It seems that this copy world has also automatically filled in some settings, Qi Leren thought.
The two reached an agreement and Qi Leren took the axe and walked out of Annie's house, walking towards Jing Siyuâs house. Walking halfway, Qi Leren suddenly remembered what He Yi seemed to be about to say to him before Mark's accident. He had said that heâd seen something in the middle of the night...
Qi Leren looked back at the church in the middle of the village. Could it be related to the glowing stone inside?
ăă&&&
When he returned to the house Jing Siyu was staying in, the group of people were waiting anxiously for him in this narrow room. Xue Jiahui saw Qi Leren coming back alone and couldn't help but ask: "Whereâs He Yi?"
"He Yi didn't come back with you?" Lara also asked.
Poor Mark was forgotten by the girls because he wasnât handsome. Qi Leren felt deeply in his heart that this was really a world where looks were most important.
"Mark fell and fainted. He Yi is looking after him. I decided to bring the axe first." Qi Leren handed the axe to his teammate Du Yue, giving him a chance to show his skills.
Du Yue took the axe, smiled at Qi Leren, and began to split the wooden trap door. The dust on the carpet flew up, and several of the women ran out covering their noses, unable to stand the dust. Annie was the worst. She coughed wildly and rushed out without looking back. He could still hear her heavy coughing from afar.
"Sheâs not allergic to dust, is she?" Out of occupational sensitivity, Dr. Lu felt that her cough didnât seem to be choking, but rather an allergic reaction. "We don't have antihistamine drugs here."
"It wonât be a serious allergy. Weâve all received physical examinations to detect allergens, and at most it is mild allergies," Francis said calmly.
"It'd better be..." Dr. Lu muttered.
"Let's go and see Mark later," Qi Leren said to Dr. Lu.
"Oh, okay," Dr. Lu readily agreed.
Du Yue, an honest boy, worked hard and diligently. He chopped the trap door to the basement a few times, revealing the dark environment below, which gave off a sense of dread.
The ladies were outside, Mark and He Yi were not there, and there were only Francis, Alex, and Qi Leren in the room, a total of five people.
Dr. Lu, who knew the routine well, had no choice but to help: "Well, it seems that we have to go down and look. Who will go down first?"
"I'll do it." Francis stood up.
Alex was one step late and curled his lips. "I'm the second."
After a little reflection, Qi Leren turned to Dr. Lu and said, "It's enough for the three of us to go in and have a look. You and Du Yue wait outside, then go to see Mark when weâre sure that Jing Siyu is okay."
"Alright."
Francis illuminated the basement with a flashlight. The entrance was very humble, with the ladder that led down only made of wood. Immediately after Francis went down, he found Jing Siyu passed out at the bottom of the ladder, and the three people joined forces to get her up.
The group of women also came back from the outside covering their noses and gathered around Jing Siyu to check the situation. Only Qi Leren and Francis were still in the basement, shining flashlights to check the situation there.
"I thought it should be a basement where sundries were placed, but it turned out to be like a laboratory," Qi Leren said curiously.
The same was true of Francis. The two were puzzled by the white-painted basement: "Maybe the owner was a researcher?"
This basement wasnât big, only 20-30 square meters. The ground was made of cement, the walls were painted white, and all the walls were covered with bookshelves and lockers, with a pile of books and unrecognizable organ specimens. Qi Leren tried to read them, but the words above were all unfamiliar charactersâobviously this was the language of this civilization, and the "alien" Qi Leren couldn't understand it.
There were also a lot of materials on the desk, which Qi Leren turned over thickly and couldn't understand. He opened the drawer and checked it, but there were no items like keys.
"Does the program know that thereâs a basement in this house?" Qi Leren asked.
"I'm afraid I don't know. They said that it took only three days to sweep the village and arrange the fixed cameras. They couldnât have been too careful," Francis said calmly.
"Right." Qi Leren looked thoughtfully at the family photos on the desk. The intelligent creatures on this planet looked very similar to them, with two eyes, one nose, one mouth, and no superhuman powers, so one could hardly tell the difference between them and this group of contestants.
"Hey, Francis and Qi, aren't you coming up yet?" Lara shouted from the entrance of the basement.
"Coming!" The two people who didn't find anything in particular gave up, grabbed the flashlights, and climbed out of the basement.
Just as everyone climbed out of the basement, there was a dull boom in the distance, like the sound of an avalanche. Several people were shocked and ran out to check. The women outside the door looked in the direction of the church in doubt: "Did something explode in that direction?"
"Did the church collapse from not being maintained for so many years?" Lara asked.
"I don't know, it was somewhere to the north either way," Xue Jiahui said. "Letâs go see He Yi and Mark later and ask them which direction the sound came from."
Jing Siyu was still unconscious, so they didn't trust to leave her alone in the house. Instead they moved her to Jing Sixue's house and asked her sister to look after her, while the rest went to visit Mark.
Qi Leren winked at Dr. Lu. Dr. Lu ran to Qi Leren and whispered, "Did you find anything?"
"I feel like thereâs something wrong with the basement in Jing Siyuâs house. Go back and call Du Yue to have a look. You search carefully to see if thereâs anything," Qi Leren said.
"Leave it to me!" Dr. Lu the treasure hunter said confidently.
The rest of the people walked towards Annie's house, and when they passed the church they made a special check and found that there was no place that had collapsed or looked damaged.
Further north was Annie's house. The group of people walked through snow and squeezed into the house. Qi Leren knew where to go, leading everyone to the room where Mark was lying. The door was open, but there was no sound.
Qi Leren suddenly slowed down: "He Yi? Mark?"
No one answered him. There was no one in that room.
"What's the matter? Werenât those two here just now?" Janet asked exaggeratedly.
"Yes, Mark was knocked out by the shelf by the door, so He Yi and I carried him to the bed in this room. He Yi was looking after him. I brought the axe first... Did Mark wake up? Maybe they went out to find us but went the wrong way?" Qi Leren guessed.
"Impossible, theyâre still in this room," Lara suddenly said.
Everyone was shocked by Lara's words and looked at her.
This female star with short hair and a heroic spirit had sharp eyes, and her eyes swept across everyone's faces: "It snowed in the middle of the night yesterday, and a new layer of snow was deposited on the ground. I have a habit of looking at the footprints in the snow. I paid attention to them when I came here just now. Before this group of ours came, there were five sets of footprints in front of Annie's houseâthose left by Annie when she left in the morning, those left by Qi Leren, He Yi, and Mark when they came to take the axe, and those left by Qi Leren when he left. Only these five sets, no more footprints, do you understand what I mean? Mark and He Yi didnât leave the house. Theyâre still here."

Heyo- can I please get a drabble with SDC Dio with a fem!vampire reader whose as tough and smug as he is? (Sorry if itâs vague- Iâm new to this). No pressure to do this though if you donât wanna. Have a nice day âđť
I really like this idea! Iâm totally down for a sassy smug reader so I hope you enjoy this. Thank you so much for the request!
His Equal
Jojoâs Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders
Dio Brando x Fem!Vampire!Reader
Summary: Being someone worthy of Dio was difficult, a status only a few could achieve. Now, being someone who he considered equal to him was even more challenging as he never allowed anyone to surpass him in anything. But with you, it was different.
It wasnât an easy task to be Lord Dioâs equal. Everyone was below him and thatâs how it had always been. No one compared to him in any way, even if some one did, they would fall victim to his charm or be completely obliterated by him due to his sheer power. If a powerful foe presented themselves to him there were two options: Join him or perish. This is how he had acquired his servants who eventually grew to respect him, gladly sacrificing their lives if necessary. In the case of some, it was fear. Dio was terrifying and no one dared to oppose him nor did he allow it. His presence alone was enough to send chills down anyoneâs spine and no one was his equal.
That said, no one but you.
Being an immortal vampire just like Dio already gave you inhuman strength and agility and the recent development of your stand only enhanced said traits. This already made your power match Dioâs, but the most significant aspect was your personality. If your personality wasnât so intriguing the blond vampire would have treated you as a mere servant rather than someone equal to him. Being confident and smug, just like him made you stand out among his other servants, which eventually caused you to become the only person he could truly trust.
You knock on his bedroom door, waiting patiently for him to call you in. The mansion had fallen under the darkness of the night, which you didnât mind as it was the only time of day you were active. Upon stepping in, you noticed his shirtless form sitting on an armchair with a book in hand once again. He noted your presence and set the book down, his amber eyes looking at you curiously. â(Name).. What a surprise. What business do you have here?â His face was neutral but his voice held a familiar mischievous tone you had grown to love. You had a small smirk of your own as you slowly approached his seated form. âCanât I say hello to my favorite Lord? You should feel delighted to see me, I am your beloved after all,â you say, placing a hand on your chest. Now his own smirk finally formed on his lips, a playful glint in his eyes. âWhy of course, dear. Your presence is absolutely splendidâ That playful glint remained in his eyes as he continued: âOf course you couldnât resist me,â Of course you couldnât. He was the pinnacle of perfection. He loved challenging you, seeing just how much of his teasing youâd be able to take.Â
Dio stood up from his chair and came to you, his smirk never fading. You stood your ground, keeping your (E/C) eyes locked in his own. Dio had done his testing multiple times in the past, always with different schemes. You found them extremely thrilling though, often wondering what part of his plan he kept hidden, waiting for surprises. âBut can you resist me, my Lord?â Your cold hands made their way on his shoulders in a calm, yet fiery manner. If he wished to challenge you, then so be it. Youâd fire back at him with everything you had.Â
You felt his hands snake around your waist, pulling you closer. âOf course I canât, my dear. Your beauty is beyond anything Iâve ever encountered..â His praises fueled your ego and wouldâve made your face red if immortality hadnât blessed you. âSame goes for you, Lord Dio..â One of your hands reached up to his cheek as you examined his handsome features. His perfectly sculpted face was unlike anything youâd ever seen. No mortal could ever compare to him.Â
Noticing your state of hypnosis caused by him, Dioâs smirk grew wider, his tongue gliding over his lower lip. âMy my.. Quite dazzled, arenât you?â His grip on your waist tightened ever so slightly in an attempt to catch you off guard. You giggle in excitement, making your sharp fangs slightly visible. âPerhaps..â Dio felt your hands land on the back of his neck. âYouâre quite mesmerizing after all..â A low chuckle escapes his lips as he brings them closer to yours, but not yet touching them. The playful competition between the two of you was something you both cherished. While both of you were full of yourselves, it would never evolve into anything but a lighthearted rivalry that wasnât to be taken seriously.
âYour words flatter me (Name), allow me to express my gratitude.â The fact that you didnât allow Dio to treat you like a mere servant was extremely thrilling for him, a nice contrast from the other servants. They were mere tools for him, blindly obeying him with no objections. Dioâs lips finally met yours in a passionate kiss, full of appreciation. Though it was hard for him to admit, you were his equal, someone he thought heâd never meet.

Narrative Family Therapy in Thor
The following is an essay written regarding the application of family therapy techniques in a fictional setting:
In Marvel Studioâs 2011 film, Thor, the fantasy and super hero aspects of the film surround worth. While we hear the mantra, âWhosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor,â regarding the physical action of the film (respectively in relation to Thorâs legendary weapon Mjolnir), we also hear testaments from both our protagonist, Thor, and his brother-antagonist, Loki, of expressing a desire to be worthy in different, more abstract ways. The film follows their journeys to become worthy as heirs to their fathersâ throne, but, more importantly, worthy as sons.
The film splits equal time between Thor and Lokiâs origins, along with their relationship with their father. On the day of Thorâs coronation, the enemies of his kingdom of Asgard break into a highly secure weapons vault. Later, it is revealed that Loki allowed the spies to enter the vault as a cunning and underhanded way to express to his father that Thor is not ready to rule the kingdom in his father Odinâs stead. Just as Loki expected, Thorâs temper gets the best of him. As a warrior, Thor has been taught and congratulated for being violent and brash. Odin chastises Thor for trying to instigate a war onto the rival kingdom, Jotunheim, and postpones the coronation temporarily.
The flame of Thorâs temper is further fanned when Thor decides to take his comrades of warriors to Jotunheim to threaten the rival king. Loki humors him lightly and expects Thor to get caught once again making brash plans, but not to actually conduct any true damage. Lokiâs schemes to frame his brother in a poor light, though, are knocked aside when they arrive at Jotunheim before Odin can stop them. Thor attacks the kingdom and kills citizens in the false name of nationalism. The most important thing to gain from this fight, aside from Thorâs temper, is that, during the battle, Loki is grabbed by a Jotun frost giant. The Jotuns are a race of monsters to the Asgardians and a touch from one should have given Loki immediate frost bite. However, Lokiâs skin turns Jotun frost giant blue instead. Loki, it turns out, is not Thorâs brother after all. He not only adopted, he is a Jotun.
There are various moments throughout the film that build up a clear picture of the negative implications associated with being a Jotun. To name only one example: The very opening prologue of the film is Odin telling young Thor and Loki a story of the Jotun. The first words spoken in the film are, âFrom the cold and darkness came the Frost Giants.â Odin describes Asgard as a âbeacon of hopeâ in comparison to the monsters that they protected every realm from. A young Thor, maybe nine years old, exclaims, âWhen I'm king, I'll hunt the monsters down and slay them all! Just as you did, father.â
Just by this prologue, we understand many instrumental aspects of the Asgardian culture. Jotun frost giants are not only less than Asgardiansâthey are feared, hated, and inhuman. Theyâre referred to as monsters more-so than their true designation. Itâs deep-rooted racism that Odin implanted into both of his sons, and, even though he tells both Thor and Loki that they are both meant to be kings, he gets teary-eyed when faced with the pride he feels for Thor at his coronation and he constantly accents that Thor is first-born, along with being worthy. Now, taking this into consideration and layering Thorâs blatant inexperience as a ruler with the insistence that he must rule on top of Lokiâs discovery that he is a monster, it is no wonder that Loki takes to his heritage in an extremely volatile and dangerous way.
Thor, Loki, and Thorâs friends are dragged back to Asgard by Odin before any more peace treaties can be ruined. Thor is then stripped of his power and title and banished to Earth with the task of becoming worthy so he can reclaim what Odin has taken from him. Odin does not explain what dictates worth, only that Thor is âunworthy of these realms [sic] unworthy of [his] titleâ and âunworthy of the loved ones [he has] betrayed.â It is with this cryptic and vague mission that he sends Thor to an unfamiliar world and turns him into a human. Itâs also important to note that an human lifespan in relation to an Asgardian lifespan is minute and humans are incredibly weak in comparison. Odin could very well have sent Thor to his death in his show of temper that is comparable only to Thorâs temper while attacking the Jotun giants.
Odinâs inarticulate parenting only gets more volatile when Loki confronts him about his heritage. Lokiâs first thought is that he might be cursed, because the thought of Odin housing a frost giant from infancy is so foreign to him. Loki goes on to describe himself in a multitude of self-deprecating ways (âI am the monster parents tell their children about at night.â) and Odin admits that he took Loki from a Jotun battle for future political leverage. When confronted with Odin using him, Loki lashes out and asks why Odin never told him. As a final nail in Lokiâs identity coffin, Odin claims he wanted to âprotectâ Loki from the truth. Itâs one of the last things Odin says before entering a coma, and solidifies the racism throughout the entire first portion of the film that being Jotun is something to be ashamed of and an identity that makes Loki unworthy of holding the throne of Asgard.
Ironically, Odinâs coma and Thorâs banishment now allow Loki to reign over the kingdom in their absence. It is in place of power that Loki schemes so that he can kill his birth father (which he succeeds in doing) and the rest of the Jotun race while keeping Thor banished. His hopes are resolutely defined in the final battle between Thor and Loki when Loki explains that his actions of genocide against the ârace of monstersâ will show Odin that he is the worthy son and true heir to the throne.
Thorâs worth is found when he protects his friends from Lokiâs wrath and it is then that Thor is able to truly fight his adopted brother. Odin arrives at the end of the fight and saves the brothers from toppling over a cliff-face. It is in Lokiâs final moments that he is rejected by his father for his attempt to make him proud. When Odin says Loki has not made him proud, Loki jumps over the side to kill himself.
Odinâs obsession with worth and his inability to explain to his sons the reasoning behind ruling, diplomacy, and what actually dictates that worth are what set this film in motion. It seems natural then that the therapeutic technique used for this family, minus the mother who is mostly absent from the main conflict, would be narrative therapy. So many of the problems within the family do surround worth, but semantically itâs no different if the word worth was replaced with the word character. By constantly undermining the character of Thor and Loki, Odin places the weight of every mistake they make onto them as people. Itâs not temper that controls Thor, itâs Thorâs temper that ruined the entirety of the political atmosphere. Itâs not heritage that Loki discovers, itâs that Loki discovers he, personally, is a manifestation of a monster that exists within the scope of that heritage. The two sons are unable to separate what aspects make up who they are from their actual, whole identity. Itâs because of this that narrative therapy is the best fit for the conflicts shown in the film.
The first step in using narrative therapy with the family would be to start externalizing the problems. Already, the relationships among and surrounding this unit of three is extremely based in scape-goat tactics. Odin actually explaining himself would go a long way to giving both sons enough information to actually make decisions that are not based in unsure hopes of making their father proud. Loki explaining his lack of self-worth paired with Thor not understanding why Loki suddenly snaps, thus alleviating the blame that Loki places on Thor (since Loki believes that Thor knows Loki is unwell and does not care) would also help in clearing up a large amount of the misconceptions within the family dynamic. With all three perspectives now articulated, a motion can be made to interlink the three stories into the most objective story possible.
After removing blame and guilt from the equation, the situation can be assessed in an unbiased way while maintaining a path to achieve all the assumed goals. Odin can gain âworthyâ sons by allowing Thor and Loki the autonomy to not be owned by their emotions and impulsivities. Thor and Loki also gain by achieving that autonomy and independence away from what their father deems as âworthyâ. This technique allows Thor and Loki the freedom to exist as themselves, which is especially important given Lokiâs new, learned origin.
Now that there is distance between identity and the problems within the family unit, the externalization can be viewed in various social, cultural, and political ways. The three can explore why Loki varies so much from the more violent Asgardian culture and what that means for him as a functioning individual within the unit. Itâs important to understand the demonization and black and white thinking that Odin has imprinted onto his sons, especially in relation to other races. (Odin uses Earth as a punishment, and talks down to everyone who does not adhere to the strict societal expectations of the Asgardian culture.) This will call into account the racism associated with the Jotun and how Loki may or may not differ from these ideas that Odin has upheld. It requires a re-examination of past, less-problematic moments. By having the three look into the more positive aspects of Lokiâs character, they can readdress the racism and temper relating to the Jotun held by all three, but especially by Thor. The negativity has now been changed into more meaningful and accepting ways (a drastic contrast to the constant affirmation seeking that code the relationships until this point).
From here, Odin, Thor, and Loki can explore futures utilizing more positive aspects of what they previously considered negative. Maybe Odinâs idea of using Loki to create a bridge between Asgard and Jotun is explored in a more culturally sensitive way and, instead of using Loki as leverage, itâs frame as being a learning experience that shows the race as being multi-faceted, thus allowing Loki to be multi-faceted as well. Loki no longer becomes Odinâs pawn, and the contentment in his role can connect to his ability to rule in Odinâs place should he ever need to. His worth is no longer connected to being on the throne, but to the skills that would make him a prospective ruler. Thorâs temper and warrior tendencies can also be examined in this same way as, instead of being volatile, as being a passionate jumpstarting position for Thor as a political figure. By turning his anger into passion and placing him in a position that truly focuses on doing what would be best for Asgard as a kingdom, Thor can also develop his skills as a ruler.
With future orientation in mind, it would be the hope that establishing connection through narrative therapy for the three would allow Loki the comfort to stay with his family instead of attempting to take his own life at the end of the film and that Asgard could be ruled without grand assumptions on the character of its throneâs heirs.

âwelcome back, agent eden. weâre impressed with the success you had during the mission, liminality. please record your recollection of the events that occurred with utmost honesty.â
Eevee exhaled deeply, eyes trailing over the half-broken and worn down Walmart sign before returning their attention to Rothchild. RETRIEVE A CIVILIAN. Theyâd be lying to themselves if they didnât question this task; it definitely seemed like a much easier job than it most likely was. The serum was held super close to the chest, and they knew the executives would never just hand it out to anyone who asked. No, this mission had to be life or death-- or as close to it as it could be. These agentsâ loyalty meant too much for their lives to just be discarded like paper in the wind... RIGHT?
Pounding of feet against the pavement cued the beginning of the mission, Eevee taking off to keep pace as they all pushed through the glass doors. Slowing to a jog, they instantly scanned their new surroundings, watching as a few other agents simply ran full speed with no regard for examination. It honestly looked like a Walmart. But there HAD to be more to it. With knitted eyebrows, they decided to take the route that had yet to be traveled, keeping a silent note of the agents who followed behind at a distance. Did they think Eevee somehow knew where to go? Maybe they had a reassured expression?? After all, this whole mission was far less about the opportunity to be injected with the serum and completely about validating themselves-- a little to Hellfire as a whole, but most importantly, for themselves. With or without abilities, they could prove they were a legitimate asset.
Swerving around a corner, they were met with their first long-- irrationally long-- aisle. Their jog slowed even further, hand instinctively wrapping around the flashlight that hung off their waste. Though the harsh store lighting flickered above, a stout, blunt object was nice to have in situations where they might have to defend themselves. Pushing forward at a cautious pace, they kept an eye out for any sign of life-- other than the few tailing them or a couple of other agents that ran by. The overhead lights eventually diminished, however, dropping the temperature and adding to the âCREEPâ FACTOR.
After about their sixtieth, or so it felt, turn, they were no longer met with an empty aisle, but one with a group of people huddled in the middle. Spotting them hopefully before theyâd spotted Eevee, they quickly backed up and out of their view and switched off their flashlight. Stealthily arching their neck to try and peek back over at the group, they counted eight, maybe nine-- all adult aged. Rothchild had said a civilian... not a troop of them. As Eevee spied and evaluated them, their tail caught a glimpse of life and like heâd been rejuvenated with life, gasped excitedly and rushed forward. âI found them!â he yelled, his voice echoing as they all turned to him in unison. Within seconds, they lunged at him, mumbling inhuman growls as some form of communication. It all happened far to quickly, Eevee frozen in terror and surprise, their eyes growing wide as Agent Starbuck was ripped to pieces with an ease that seemed impossible.
Allowing themselves a few seconds of shock, they then shook off the paralysis before retreating at full speed. The nipping cold pushed back by the adrenaline that now coursed through them as they ran. Was there even a civilian to save? Was all this a foolâs errand; a way to lead the agents to their death? After the attack, maybe the executives wanted to start fresh and no longer believed they could trust any of their agents. A million thoughts raced through their mind as they darted down halls and around corners. Left, left, right, left, right. Slowing slightly, not even remotely ready to just stop all together, they glanced around in confusion. Wait-- were they supposed to take a left or right?
Biting their bottom lip in thought momentarily before pulling out the compass they remembered theyâd been given, they mumbled obscenities to themselves as the arrow spun in never-ending circles. Of fucking course theyâd give them a useless compass. Tugging at their sleeves as their air puffed out into a warm cloud, Eevee racked their brain. Okay. They could do this.Â
After taking a deep breath, they drove themselves forward with purpose. Was this the way? They werenât sure, but going somewhere was better than sitting still. It felt like HOURS. Aisles followed by more aisles. But still, they persevered, eventually stumbling across one other life-form and quickly covering their source of light to make it dim. This âpersonâ seemed to be like the ones theyâd found earlier-- but alone, and that meant Eevee had a far better chance. Is this who the executives were referring to? And if it was, how were they supposed to bring them out-- would they be willing?
ACT FIRST, QUESTION LATER. At an agile speed, Eevee took off towards them, uncovering their light in an attempt to blind them. They were met with similar growls as the other recoiled from the light, Eevee taking the opportunity to pounce with a swift smack with the flashlight to the back of he head. Almost as if they could see the stars around the others head, they wildly lashed out in a dazed state. Nails connected with Eeveeâs arm, raking deep and hard. Wincing, Eevee kept hitting them over and over in the same spot-- careful not to kill but rather to render unconscious.
After what felt like a few agonizing minutes, the other body fell limp in their arms; their crimson soaked arms. They could feel the multiple bruises forming, probably a black eye and definitely more deep cuts. But at least they werenât dead. âThis is for Agent Starbuck,â they spit at the knocked out body.
What now?
Taking even more time to even out their breathing and recharge their muscles, they counted to themselves. 3, 2, 1. With a grunt, they slung the other over their shoulders in a firemanâs carry, exhaling sharply as they were a lot heavier than they looked. Now it was time for endurance, to not only be able to find their way back but to also lug this piece of shit with them.
Legs turned to noodles, over time, BUT THEY PUSHED ON. It became incredible hard to breathe, BUT THEY PUSHED ON. They werenât sure if they were going the right way, BUT THEY PUSHED ON. Bitter cold nipped at them, threatening to slow them to a frozen halt, BUT THEY PUSHED ON.
Slowly but surely, they repeated âyou can do thisâ like a mantra, even if they didnât actually believe it. Hours passed, and every inch of them threatened to shut down in exhaustion when they caught a glimpse of faint overhead lighting. Exhaling a loud and furious groan, like their own personal battle cry, they forced themselves on in desperation. The end, it was so close. THEY COULD DO THIS.Â
Sloppily pushing open the glass door outside, they immediately collapsed to the concrete as the body on their shoulders begin to smother them... but they didnât care. âI did it.â They breathed silently-- wanting to cry but somehow holding back. They. Did. It.
#mutationmissions#self para.#liminality.#wow#waited long enough didn't I?#and how is this so long and such garbage?

The Manual Scavenging Community is considered to be the most expelled and oppressed
communities among the Dalits (Ramaswamy, 2011). Among the caste hierarchy in the Hindu
caste system, dalits are considered to be untouchables and are excluded from various groups in
the society. Manual Scavenging is predominantly related to forced labor. They also inherit this to
their family members. Apart from the social stigma, they suffer from various health diseases.
The children of this community are gradually deprived and the occupation is carried over for
generations. Even inspite of constitutional laws which prohibits discrimination the marginalized
groups continue to face discrimination in India. The education system continues to persist based
on caste as well as occupation. The schools and colleges in india School authorities in India
constantly discriminate the children from marginalized communities, without allowing them
their right to education (Bajoria, 2015).
"Untouchables" are often coercively allocated the most filthy, inhumane and dangerous occupations,
for example, cleaning human waste. The work they do adds to belittling they confront from the
encompassing society. The rejection of caste-affected communities by different gatherings in the
public arena and the natural auxiliary disparity in these social connections prompt large amounts of
destitution among influenced populace gatherings and avoidance from, or decreased advantages from
advancement forms, and for the most part blocks their inclusion in basic leadership and significant
investment are out in the open and common life.
The Dalit community are rarely accepted and rejected from basic leadership and significant
support in broad daylight and common life. Absence of unique enactment prohibiting standing seperately or absence of execution of enactment, because of broken frameworks of equity.
Children of Manual Scavengers
The manual scavengersâ children face discrimination as they are vulnerable. It is evident that the
children belonging to such communities face discrimination in schools and also lead to being
dropped out of school (Ramanujam, 2016). The children reside in isolation and in separate
places.
Indian human rights organization conducted a survey and it revealed that the teachers, local
governments and community members repeatedly make it a obstacle to the children who attend
school and are forced into labor as an everyday experience (Indian Solidarity Dalit Network,
2014). There are a few studies that largely pointed to the role of caste in education, for example;
teachers discriminating, punishing dalit students, giving tasks such as menial jobs and having
relationships based on caste with the peer group (Acharya, 2010).
Ăt is a matter of concern that surprisingly has been neglected by the education policy, in
academic discussions and research. Studies have broadly highlighted the role of caste in
education, for example teachersâ attitude in discriminatory and defamation of the dalit students,
giving them menial jobs as task and also caste based peer relations (Banarjee, 2014).
Nevertheless there is little research that recognizes areas and the methods of exclusion and
practices of discrimination in schools and how the children are influenced through these experiences.
Discrimination in Schools
One of the primary objectives of the researcher is to comprehend, what the different ways in
children of manual scavengers are being discriminated and to what degrees. Majority of the
respondents have confronted discrimination. For example, in schools. There are children who
originated from different foundations, participants said that they âdo not get treated similarly as
far as clearing questions which are related to the syllabus or empowering the students to question
and clarify doubts which are being taught by the teachers in schools, yet other set of students do
say that they are not being faced any discrimination in the treatment as there are the children who
belongs to the same community in the schools.
Selected quotes
The following are few of the statements derived from the researcherâs discussion with the target
segment.
A student of â15 years old studentsâ says that âThe teacher always made us sit in a corner of the
room, and would throw keys at us [when she was angry]. We only got food if anything was left
after other children were servedâŚ. Gradually [we] stopped going to school.â
âWe were asked to massage a teacherâs legs. If we refused, he used to beat us. There was a toilet
for teachers, which is the one we had to clean their washrooms.â
One of the participants explained that he experienced many types of discrimination. âWhile I
was in secondary school, I had no friends, with the upper caste only a couple of other children,
who happened to be from a similar untouchable group. I couldn't get the water from the
neighborhood tap in school not at all like whatever is left of the children. Teacherâs used to treat
me in an unexpected way; they would state, "Why do you try to get an education? You better
stay back home and help your folks in the work to work". They would request that untouchable
children tidy up the toilets in school, which upper class children would not do, as it is respected
the obligation of lower standings. My experience of discrimination was not restricted to the
school alone, I needed to confront discrimination in each phases of my life, for example, while
going to school in the transport at school.
Being faced discrimination in a day everyday in lives of students makes the child go through low
self-esteem, lack of self-confidence. One of the participant shared that whenever she visited the
schools for parents meeting she used to feel very inferiorâIt makes me feel like I'm not welcome.
I feel like I can't trust anyone. I feel like I'm not free. I'm starting to believe that maybe I
should've just killed myself a while back before someone else does it. It makes me feel like I have
to fight for the rest of my life. I don't want to have children that have to fight their whole lives
either, especially after I'm dead and gone. There's no way people should have to fear the people
around themâ.
From the above it is evident that how a person feels emotionally and where the participant has
also stated that she wanted to end her life, discrimination in this form is disheartening. The way
the participant has responded has made the researcher understood that the society lives through being judgmental and defining a person because of their caste / background.
Discrimination from teachers
The majority of the respondents have not shared their parentâs occupation with their teachers and
fellow students. They share the other alternate work which their parents do for livelihood; they
feel it as a matter of shame to tell the type of job to their teachers and friends. But on the other
hand some of the respondents have shared about their parentâs occupation to their teachers and
friends, it is a relevant factor because the other children who attend the Government Telugu
school and in this place many students whose parents are involved into the same occupation, But
in the case of the children attending the private schools, they shared that during parents and
teachers meeting our parents are being made wait and priority is given to the parents of students
who are well off compared to us. The teachers do not make our parents sit but they make other parents sit and talk, and they do not share about the good marks we have scored but they speak
very discoursing of the negative marks we score in other subjects. The researcher observed that
in an educational institute the teachers also practice form of discrimination of students during
important meetings such as parents and teachersâ meeting.
One of the participants is a high school student who has dreams and ambitions to become an
engineer, recollects her days in the past when her parents and grandparents would go to work and
she would be left to take care by her neighbors as a child. After joining a school she had friends
from different denominations and she always longed for her parents also visiting her in school
and getting her lunch, dropping and picking her up as she grew she was curious to know why it is
only her parents who were not being with her and they do not reveal their occupation as well.
She was inquisitive to know about her parentâs occupation when one day after her 7th grade
examination, when she visited her friends place she was shocked and heartbroken to see her
mother who was cleaning the washroom of her friendâs house. She was into tears and she
returned home shared her emotions to her parents and that is when she learnt that her parentâs
occupation.
She could not face her friends in school, as they all knew about her parents and she withdrew
from the school, although she was a topper in class she withdrew from her studies in school,
which carried a good impact in the place. she studied through scholarship and she never faced
any discrimination among her friends and teachers, she says that I was a merit student and I was
appreciated by my teachers and friends but from the time I knew about the occupation of my
parents, I hesitated to go school, Iâm sure my teachers and friends would treat me well, though
they know my family, I feel very inferior and I chose to withdraw from school. It is understood
and relevant that she has never faced any discrimination from her teachers and students before
the motherâs occupation was revealed. The researcher also witnessed the above as when the
process of interviewing was done in the school the head master of one of the Government
schools encouraged a student and also a parent whose child was being irregular to the school.
And the other respondents who study in other schools with different children say that they are not encouraged by the teachers and help them with their studies.
Relationships with friends in the class
Majority of participants do not bring their friends home because of the locality where they
live and also the friends are not interested to visit their houses in that area. But sometimes few
among the respondents said that during occasions friends from different localities visit them if
they invite and out of which very few turn up.
âDuring occasions like Christmas, we are asked for cakes and sweets to buy, there was a time
when I distributed homemade sweets but they preferred to take the sweets bought from the stores
outsideâ. It is relevant that even in case of friends visiting the homes for occasions they feel that
they are being excluded from participating in the festivals celebrated by their friends.
Emotionally, the children feel that it is a form of practice which they have being seen from the
beginning and also their families practice the sameâ. The children are allowed to go the houses
of their friends who are from different localities as they study in the schools where many from
different other backgrounds study and therefore the children go to their houses, but it again
depends on whether the other community children family accepts them.
Even during playing games, they have an individual playground where other community people
come and share the playground but there was an incident during tournaments âmy brother is a
very good football player and he was given many awards, but for a tournament he was made to
become a coach and he was not being given any payment, which he was entitled to get he felt
very discouraged because of this, and also we felt itâs because we belong to a different
community. She also mentioned that, we feel that, we are already used and accepted this kind of
treatment from the society. The dignity of labor has not been conveyed to the other community
children where these groups are being looked down on.
Discrimination in Public places
âI needed to work close by my family during my holidays. I recall, once I was parched
between works. That evening, as it was an exceptionally a hot day, I needed to drink some water;
I asked the station woman, the proprietor of the ranch to give me some water. I didn't carry the
glass to drink from, and she would not give me a chance to drink from her glass as it can cause
contamination. Accordingly, she needed to pour water from far above onto my hands. I felt
profoundly embarrassed. I ran straight to my mom, and I disclosed to her that I am going home;
I would prefer not to work in a place where, I cannot in any case get water like people. There
were numerous dairy cattle munching on the homestead and pooches and different creatures
wandering unreservedly around, and had no contaminating impact on the upper position
individuals, though me, albeit human, needing water, was treated with such a cruel
demonstration, just because of my being conceived in untouchable familyâ. One of the
participant shared this when he was not offered a glass of water in a glass, but due to the
background of the person he was asked to take the water in hands and drink it, the station women
would have known nothing about the person except for the caste, and the background of being in
a manual scavenging community, here the researcher highlights that however educated or
qualified a person is, but still they are defined by their identity or from the family they are being
born into.
Imperatives of mother tongue and dialect of school
Language was discovered as a requirement for the children who have their own mother tongue other
than English. In spite of the fact that Telugu children have been living for around two centuries and
are encompassed by standard individuals, due to their imprisoned life since they have been brought
here and absence of social mix, their language and culture have not been changed. They utilize their
own particular language, Telugu, in their regular day to day existence. Their dialect and culture are
additionally fortified by the recreational courses of action they have. Their main mode of in home
recreation is watching satellite television watching Telugu films and melodies. So childâs take in
Telugu which is not the same as the language drilled outside their settlement. When they begin
tutoring, they think about in English language which is practicallyobscure to them. Language used as a part of school in addition uncovers their character to their
companions and make another space for discrimination.
Discoveries demonstrate that the manual scavengers children' first language not just makes it a
issue for them to change to the language utilized as a part of school yet additionally uncovers
their personality of being children who are untouchables, and makes another space for being excluded.
Awareness to the society
The mind-set of the society also needs to be changed as the practice of the Indian society is
hierarchical through the caste system and the notion of considering the dalits as the backward
class and not considering them in different areas such as education, workplaces, public places
should be eradicated. Making education a fundamental right is the way in which the state invests
in the youthâthe future of the country. The total number of out of school Dalit Children
according to the National Sample Survey is a staggering 2 million. Education is considered a
form of cultural capital that is crucial to social mobility.
Caste based discrimination is pervasive, not just in the actual institutions of education but even in
accessing basic standards of living that enable attainment of rights. âTeachers and
administration make it difficult for us to obtain everything from entry into labs, library books,
and scholarships to job opportunities. We are made to run around from one office to another for
This occupation evoked because of caste system. Instead of creating a technology to remove
human excreta from houses, the pandits took the easy way out by condemning a particular caste
to do the job. Even when the technology was available, our Brahminical bureaucracy was
unwilling to abolish manual scavenging. This is the sad commentary on India's industrial
renaissance. While pampering despicable new reach middle class with modern toys of cars and
mobile phones we still have night soil to be carried physically by poor people. Humiliation and
degradation is a weapon that the powerful use against the weak.
Manual scavenging is much to be considered as an issue that could be controlled and prohibited
through proper policy making and creating a strong legally enforceable bill for which many
movements have taken place. The noteworthy thing about this issue is, it is prohibited by the
Indian constitution in 1950 but this practice is prevalent in most of the parts of India till 1993.

Metal Slug-Demon Song Ch 8
Earlier before what happened to the kitchen, The Squad got back to the Base and as promised, Marco headed straight to the Hospital Wing to get a full check over to see what is wrong with him and why he's been tired lately. It was normal for him to feel like this after a long day of fighting and all he needed is either a good night sleep or a pick me up from a cup of coffee. The Doctors examined him over and took some blood test with his result coming back clean. For extra per caution, they even check him over for any signs of cancer or tumors and they too can back negative for them. This was driving Marco nuts and all they can do for him is prescribe some pills to help him sleep and advice him to cut back on his drinking and smoking and what food he's been eating. He took their words and he was willing to do anything to make himself feel better and on his way out, he discarded his carton of cigarette right into the trash bin as he walked by it and headed straight to his room. He'll tell his friends in the morning about what the Doctors said after a good night sleep. He looked down at his bottle of pills they gave him and read them carefully since he takes panic attack pills to make sure they won't clash with each other and make thing worst for his already health situation. He stood in front of his computer lab door and punched in the code and door slide open, but he didn't enter, let alone moved at all. That haunting melody is back again, the same one he heard last night that put him in a deep trance. His mind began to fog up, he was losing the control of his body and he walked away from his Computer Lab, leaving the door open and not returning to close it. Sunlight shined through the Garage windows and a ray of light shone over Marco's face. It made the man squint his eyes shut and let out a painful moan. His body ached as if he was beaten in his sleep and his mouth tasting like soot and he kept smacking his mouth to rid of the taste. Trevor was first to find him and ran toward him while shouting his name that barely echoed through the garage, âMajor, thank goodness we found you. We couldn't find you anywhere after we found your Computer Lab door wide open. We thought that the intruder got to you.â Marco's mind wasn't fully awake and he looked at Trevor and trying to process everything he said just now to him. He did recall opening his Computer Lab door but everything else he was drawing a blank. But his mind kept taking him back to a blurry room with muffling voices coming in and out and he held his head when a pounding headache starts throbbing, âMajor, are you all?â Trevor panicked and kneel next to Marco to check for any serious injuries on him, âI-I just got a whopping headache is all. I can't remember what happened last night and you said that everyone was looking for me?â he said, slowly getting off the ground and Trevor helping him getting him on his feet. âYes, sir Major. Captain Roving sent me to get you after we had an intruder break into our Head Quarters and raided our kitchen. Then it took off through the window.â Marco rubbed the temples on his head and sighed, âLet's check the security footage and see who it was and track them down.â Marco wasn't the only one who had that idea in mind. After the door swung open, he found the rest of the Squad already hovering over the control panel and Eri typing away at the computer to bring up any last night security footage that she could find, âThere you are, Marco! I'm glad to see that you're all right. Where were you last night?â Tarma said with the mixture of relief and concern for his friend's disappearance, âTrevor came back running and yelling about you being nowhere to be found and your Computer Lab door was open.â Marco walked toward them and took a spot next to Fio, âSorry to scare you all. I wish I have an answer to explain what happened last night but-â âIt's okay, Marco. We got the last night security feed on screen and it'll tell us where you went and who's intruder is.â Eri pressed the play button and the feed began to play. It started off slow and nothing happening and Eri speed it up a bit and she stopped and brought it at normal speed. Marco was walking toward his room and entered the code to unlock the door but then he stopped and turned away. This raised a lot question and they hoped to get an answer soon out of the feed. Marco was about to walk away in the feed when the screen started to glitched up, flickering, and then the image began to disturbingly warping Marco on screen and everyone all covered their ears when a loud, high pitched screeching noise sounding inhuman to the human ear. Marco was the only one who didn't cover his and his eyes glazed over and he heard a demonic voice. âKill the man within. Birth the Demon in the man.â Those words were followed by a blood-curdling scream and Eri moved out of her chair when the first monitor shattered and shot sparks out of it and one by one, the monitors are shattering and shooting sparks all over the place, setting off the fire sprinkler system with smoke pouring out of the now broken monitors. The downpour of water snapped Marco back into reality and he dashed out of the room soak and wet. Fio grabbed her cap and tried to rein the water out of it and shook any drops off of it. Eri did the same with her bandanna, âGreat, now we got no evidence on what happened to Marco or who the intruder was.â she muttered, squeezing water out of her hair. âAll we got this morning is a scouting report about General Morden's new ware about and the location of his new hiding spot.â said Nadia, undoing her pigtails so her hair can dry properly. âAll right then, everyone. Go change into some dry clothes and meet back here to plan our next move for our new mission.â said Marco and he walked away to his room. Tarma stared at his friend walking away and he wanted to follow him to make sure that he's all right and check up on him and his health. His wet clothes were going to wait until he caught a cold chill and headed back to his room for a quick change. âGet me another damn punching bag!â âBut, sir! You just busted up the-â âDon't you argue with me or I will use YOU as one!â The Rebel solider gulped and his body was trembling at the morbid thought of being beaten by Allen O' Neil's fists. The Rebel ran off to find anything for Allen O' Neil to thrash to pieces with his punching or to fire his M60 at and when he does go for his gun in rage, everyone is sent running from him. All the Rebel could find is a training dummy they use to practice melee attacks on and Allen O' Neil did short work on it and demanded another one with veins popping out of his neck and head. Allen O' Neil is mad as Hell and it's a no-brainer over why he's taking his anger out on every object in sight and sending Rebel Soldiers running for cover during his rampage and his endless training since they arrived at their new base. Allen O' Neil Junior is still fighting for his life. He went through a long agonizing surgery and he hasn't woken up from it. His father is filled with concern grief for his boy and a raw mixture of revenge and choler on the Demon who almost killed him. Abigail watched all of this from a safe distance couldn't help but sigh and knew that trying to talk him will be a waste time since she tried it already earlier when he was abusing every last punching bag he went through, âYou can't talk me out of this, woman! I don't care what brainiac logic you got going through your pretty head of yours cause when I find that abomination, I am going to tear its limbs off and pump him full of bulletsâ She turned with her arms folded behind her back and walked away, heading to her room. Morden gave her an important task to go into the City to see if she can find out when the Demon will strike again and when to be prepared for it next time. She opened her door with a key card she carries with her and stepped into her clean and organized room and walked toward her armoire and swung the doors open. She has pictures of Trevor taped on the inside of the door to prevent anyone but herself from seeing them and they were copies of past spying missions or pictures she ripped from The Regular Military's computers before Marco and Trevor put heavy security on their computers. She softly smiled at a picture of Trevor posing for the camera in his black turtleneck sweater, clean blue jeans pants, and polished boots as he leans against a balcony railing at some fancy restaurant or dinner party. She hung her uniform up with extra care and remove her Rebel emblem necklace from her neck so we won't have an angry mob chasing her and her sister around the city. She put on some civilian clothes and brushed out her hair and put on a light layer of makeup with a necklace and earrings. Perfect, she'll blend in among the citizens with no problem. She headed straight for her sister's room and knocked and Beatrice answered. Abigail smiled, âReady to go, Beatty?â

Discover More About The Observed Diagnosis To Improve Distant Vision
By Daniel Murphy
A newly released survey revealed that there could be about five mil visually impaired Americans. A typical yet severe result of this disability could be difficulty in reading. Low vision may be defined as failure to read within a normal range. Experts demonstrated which programs are poor performance predictors to improve distant vision. Researchers recommended that an easier clinical examination of observation could then be used to anticipate real world performance. There are numerous tests regarding reading efficiency. These would be the Gray reading together with diagnostic scales. However, many of these tests are tailored for evaluating proper reading levels. These sorts of tests will in general be moderately inhumane toward noticeable variables. The cards were furnished for estimating checking keenness inside low visual perception. Commonly, most prominent perusing occurs for printed out sizes impressively bigger than the specific sharpness limit. The control cards should not be intended for assessing detecting pacing through execution with respect to characters greater than as far as possible. The specific pepper realistic aptitudes should be another low inventive and insightful vision test. In lieu of being a watch that segregates visual viewpoints in seeing, it was furnished into evaluating day by day low thought examination in situ. Subjects pick their own one of a kind lighting and furthermore favored watching separation. They are normally tried by means of magnifiers. MNREAD is a learning test which may be created specifically to become delicate in order to graphic elements. We is really a digital analyze that could easily be explained in more detail. This utilizes basic phrases along with typical terminology to reduce intellectual as well as linguistic needs. Phrases are usually introduced in higher magnifying to ensure that ingredient big characters rest inside the savvy reduce on most topics. Subject matter would not need to adjust magnifiers. There is absolutely no demand for guide dexterity within the task. In a nutshell, the purpose of typically computerized test would be to provide a practical estimate of the person very best sense pace. Researchers confirmed the digital test through showing that will its ratings correlated extremely with a real life analysis job. Low eye sight subjects go through paragraphs through print press with their favored magnifiers. Pc base results accounted intended for 80 percent from the variance within this task. In contrast, Snelling quickness accounted for just some of the differences. There are several useful reasons for creating a simpler edition of this assessment. The actual advanced evaluation really does offer precise psychophysical steps regarding examining pace. It takes a pc in addition to movie screen screens. This might cost a lot, not really transportable, and difficult in setting up. The particular analysis assessment requiring simply no equipment apart from printed company along stop watch could prove a lot less expensive, a lot more portable, and easier in setting up when compared with other. Moreover, the low innovation nature including print memory cards implies they may be progressively adaptable for application all through creating countries. Analyst objective into employing printed cards should then be into making a straightforward, quick and right evaluation. Researchers made a gathering of printed digital cards and did investigations to get the least complex procedure of physically exhibiting the unit cards. They figure the relationship of parts for similar expressions, decide the amount of training before subjects landed at stable glancing through execution in addition to gauge frequently the exactness associated with understanding speed estimated utilizing the prints.

The dangerous fantasy behind Trumpâs normalisation
Boris Johnson has urged people to snarl out of the doom and gloomines. Yet such a situation is not normal. Persuasion ourselves the president-elect doesnt symbolize everything he says is a fantasize that stops us learning Trumpism for the barbarism it is
It was David Remnick, editor of the New Yorker, who crystallised developments in the situation into a chilling shard, in accordance with the US presidential election result. Speaking on CNN, he said: When I listen to Conrad Black describe Donald Trump, I ponder Im hallucinating. When I listen him described as not sexist , not racist , not playing on white-hot fears , not energizing hate, when hes described in a kind of normalised acces, as someone in absolute owned of program lore, as someone whos somehow in the acceptable series of rhetoric, I reckon Im hallucinating. And I dread for home countries, and I dont think its unreasonable to do so. I accept the results of our poll, of course I do. At the same season, I feel Vladimir Putin played a distinct persona in this election, and thats outrageous. And weve normalised it already. You would think that Mitt Romney had won.
Hillary Clintons assent speech interred the tomahawk, on the basis that the quiet send of superpower a principle Trump explicitly accepted before the election would like to request that the society give him an open head and the chance to lead. Obama was warmer still: We are now all rooting for his success in marrying and guiding the country. The peaceful modulation of power is one of the specific characteristics of our republic. And over the next few months, we are going to show that to the world We have to remember that were actually all on one team.
The logic is that Democrat are, by definition, true-life devotees in democracy: theyre not the privilege. They dont is making an effort to charge or recount or rerun an election. That principle placeds off a series of replies suggested by reason and biography: if consenting Trumps leadership is the democratic way, then any American patriot should line up behind him. Other leaders of democratic societies should furnish him partnership and backing. The combat has been prevailed, and the only next theatre for a body politic is reconciliation.
Trump and Obama have good discussion at White House
Yet this situation is not ordinary or, if you prefer that in social media expressions, #notnormal. When girls are lining up for long-term contraception in a piteou, pragmatic farewell to their reproduction freedom; when the chief strategist accuses of permitting racism and antisemitism; when the vice-president-elect signed legislation necessary maidens to hold and pay for burials for miscarried foetuses; when the president-elect has pledged to deport three million immigrants; when he has at least 12 allegations regarding sex misconduct superb against him; when he has announced cabinet ministers that includes his own three children: this examines nothing like a democracy. It examines nothing like reconciliation. It seems despotic, inflammatory, extreme and murderous: it appears, in short, precisely as Trump promised it would look, as he campaigned on a pledge to jail his opposing. His adversaries react that he maybe doesnt mean what he says, a position for which there is precisely no evidence. Their desire to normalise has come up with them in the fantastical nation of viewing the forthcoming presidency as there is a desire to it, and not as it plainly is.
Normalising is not Nigel Farage frolicking in a golden elevation with Donald Trump: Farage was a man of the same stamp all along. The knowledge that his hyperbole was always so flaccid, so shifty, so euphemistic by comparison with Trumps doesnt excuse it any more than British decay is apologized when, compared with the USs, the summing-ups are always so paltry.
Boris Johnson: snap out of doom and gloom. Image: Zuma Wire/ Rex/ Shutterstock
But Boris Johnson, foreign ministers, telling EU captains to click out of the doom and mist, announcing Trump a dealmaker, someone with whom we can do business, telling us to see this is an opportunity: that is normalising. Gaze on the bright side, liberals. The sheer fatuousness of Johnsons speech, the absence of any recognizable values, or a backbone to place behind them, heightens in me an unfathomable, hot, eye-pricking feel of having been betrayed. How was it possible for Johnson to disappoint, after his delinquent and self-serving summertime? Its like discovering that a neighbor, after a long party-wall spat, has browsed you to the Stasi. I knew he was a jerking; I never realised he despised our shared humanity.
Normalising is not Marine Le Pen, up with the lark to hail the brand-new dictatorship of which she hopes to be the next beneficiary. But it is Theresa May waiting anxiously by the phone to assure Trump she would be his special relation; it is also a single column inch devoted to wondering how this affects our Brexit negotiating position. When you have a prime minister who will not raise a peep in defence of propriety, you are in a new world. Its data cannot be fed into age-old formulas.
Normalising is not the Ku Klux Klan taking a rosy-cheeked look of the Trump presidency, it is CNN questioning uncritically, contacting out for that judgment. It is currently in the process of pattern a gag out of the Breitbart headline, Would you preferably your child had feminism or cancer ?, issued under the inhuman chairmanship of manager strategist Stephen Bannon. I want to see the absurdity of it, but it is not amusing. Bannons ilk checks a woman on a quest for glory and equality and was intended to irradiate it out of her. Its like living in a John Wyndham novel.
Normalising is not anything the rightwing fanatics do, and they do not try: they dont look for acceptable labels for themselves. It is the mainstream that twists itself into conciliatory pretzel knots find nicer words for totalitarian, such as alt-right.
Democrats try to find the demerit within themselves: request not whether a racist dislikes; ask what induced the racist so indignant in the first place. Once we have found the right is part of the liberal elite to pin it on, the hate maybe wont racket so frightening.
All this has a few beginnings: there is straightforward dismissal, the first phase of heartbreak. Trump cant lies in the fact that bad, because that would simply be too bad. There is a sense that the far right doesnt precisely ignore liberal sensibilities, it actively takes nourishment from our anguish. The US journalist Wajahat Ali, writing the day after research results, described his conversation with his father: Please be careful if Trump prevails, his supporters will feel very energised. This was assumes out by the spike in racist and sexist hate crimes in the US, and resonates here in Britain, too.
Golden future? When Nigel fulfilled Donald. Picture: Nigel Farage/ PA
Racists are energised by the victory of racists, and announcing them racist simply rams that win residence. A year ago, to be antisemitic would have necessitated exclusion from public life, and now it amounts to fitness for high-pitched power. Every day you reassert a fundamental significance of humanity, you demonstrate a inexpensive, disdainful thrill to the person who reached it necessary for you to say it. You cannot shame a white supremacist; unaccountably, you feel the pity yourself when you try. The indict is so extreme, if they dont accept, then you are required to hysterical. There is an underlying truism, here, that the act of debating introduces its own legitimacy. If we are really going to go back to square one and have to explain why grabbing a woman by the pussy is a violation of her human dignity, or why you cant injunction an entire religion from your coasts, where does that discontinue? What field have you relinquished just by allowing the question? It is genuinely hard to say.
The hard right does not accept argumentation as a route to a shared truism; it is simply not how they are wired. They take a judgment; you take a consider; their view electorally dominates, you shut up. Expiration of, as they ever say on Facebook. You merely dont get onto, do you? You LOST. That is the authoritarian style. It is hard to escape a pragmatic conclusion that verbal duel is pointless, but it is also wrong; the following objectives now is not exhortation. I dont contemplate anybody is going to unearth any concealed finesse or rapport in the person or persons of vice-president-elect Mike Pence. The aims of moving these fundamental polemics is solidarity with one another, lest, in the stillnes, we lose our bearings.
As to the drop-off into leftwing in-fighting, so confusing from the task of trenchantly opposing a tyrant, it has the same motorist: if you are fighting to reach a consensus, nonetheless bitterly, you can only do so with people who will move. You cannot discuss climate change issues with a person who contemplates all scientists are crooked; you cannot consider abortion with people who conceive wives as chattel to begin with; its meritless. And hitherto to fight with one another is not neutral, it does more than just pass the time. It composes incorrect equivalence or, worse, a hierarchy that has its arse on downwards. If we speak about Hillary Clintons corporate cosiness and not Trumps endorsement by the KKK, âyou think youreâ unavoidably putting one above the other.
Stephen Bannon and the alt-right in the White House
What does non-normalising look like? Bernie Sanders told the Today programme today that it would be billions of beings coming together to defend the organizations and the legal rules. This is specific to the US, plainly there isnt much point in millions of non-Americans coming together, for all that the brand-new toxicity of the USs political culture concerns us all, essentially and theoretically. And its reactive, since the Trump presidency will choose the sites of the conflict. Yet there is intend and hope in recollecting, as the American Civil Liberties Union has, that the president is not pope; that there is a physique and a initiate of laws; that supreme court adjudicates can bend whichever way they will, but there are only so many ways and means of interpreting a constitution founded on the universal area of human rights; and that millions of people can and will oppose their traducement with the support of the ages.
A protester in Chicago with a clear message. Picture: Kamil Krzaczynski/ Reuters
The American columnist Masha Gessen, who has wasted the majority of members of their own lives living in dictatorships, gives her six rules for surviving under one, and they read as a direct accusation of the political answer so far. First, conceive the tyrant: if he says he will evict you, he means to. When you claim âhe il beâ exaggerating, you reflect nothing but your own are looking forward to rationalise. Relatedly, dont be fooled by tiny clues of normality, the curious moderate placed in this or that orientation, a peremptory call for peace.
Dispiritingly, convention No 3 is: Universities will not save you. The only meaningful mode to marry that and Sanderss call is to assume that institutions are as strong as the peoples of the territories ready to defend them. Rule No 4 is: Be outraged. Wherever you are in the world, however insignificant you think yourself, each time you shrug, caper, look on the bright side or do a Boris Johnson, you do grave sin to the people in the tyrants pipeline of ardour. Rule No 5: Dont shape endangers. This is to been set aside the grease of the modern political process. Politics cannot be the art of the possible when the impossible has already happened. No 6 is: Recollect the future. Trump cannot last for ever.
I would contribute a seventh, which is to remember the past: whether its globalisation or those who are left behind, whether its economic stagnation or the long, flogging tail of the financial clang, we should, as we clamber over one another to be modern in our interpretings, recollect there is nothing new about this history. It is the oldest in the world: nebulous rancours held chassis and intensity by the rhetoric of unabashed hatred. You cannot find common case on the plight of the low-waged; navigate your own style through the submerge of secular stagnation, and epithet Trumpism for the barbarism that it is.

Feminism and Asymmetries equality
The expansion of feminist movements in recent decades has shown remarkable progress. But to this day, feminism still provokes the relentless prejudice of some social movement retainers. Feminism is considered contradictory because it carries the âidea of gender equalityâ, which only defends oppression on one people only: women. Some of these prejudices arise because of the fact that the persecution has never known gender. But some of us are still vague about the fact that women are the most helpless in facing all the oppression (oppression, red) created by todayâs patriarchal society. Why? Before we answer that question, it would be good to understand first what patriarchism is, which is the feministâs main enemy, and matriarchism as a thesis always confronted with patriarchy. Patriarchism is a social system that places men as a central authority figure in many social organizations. Patriarchy is a form of crystallization of patrilineal culture. in other hand there is a matriarchism, which is also a derivative form of matrilineal culture. Then where did this conflict begin? Engels gave an explanation of the conflict that began when femininity became subordinate and considered second class in society. In the past, the same masculine and feminine tasks in the family have now shifted. The tasks performed by a mother are second-rate and are considered no greater than the duties of a father. There is never a problem when womenâs duties in the domestic sphere are rewarded equal to menâs duties. But conflicts begin when women are subordinated and considered to be no more important than men. Besides that, there is Bachofen, a contemporary and like-minded philosopher with Marx, has managed to explain the development and shifting matriarchy to patriarchy in his work entitled Myth Religion and Mother Right. Here Bachofen explains matriarchism originating from matrilineal where from a mother, the concept of altruism, and universal equality is passed on to the child. A mother loves her children without choosing a child also learns to love from her mother. This self-concept that builds the character and principles of freedom, equality, happiness and the unconditional recognition of life. Changed by the matrilineal principle, patrilineal speaks of law, order, truth, and hierarchy. Even Bachofen explain that balanced fraternity and awakened from the hands of the mother, now turned into a competition and hierarchical domination in the hands of the father. Even more, Fromm says that this patriarchal principle of upholding the competition is the ultimate form of evolution. But this does not necessarily make matriarchism a fragile and obsolete concept. Furthermore, Erich Fromm examines the flaws and advantages of these two concepts. Matriarchism has advantages in the idea of equality, universality, and unconditional soul recognition. While this idea is weak because it is in blood and ground bonds. Weak in terms of progress. On the other hand, patriarchism excels in the principle of truth, law, the progress of the science of civilization and the development of spirituality. But the concept of patriarchism becomes flawed because it is thick with elements of hierarchy, oppression, inequality and inhumanity. In this case, patriarchy is impossible to establish a balanced and classless society. Gradually, the matriarchism manifested in subsistence life was displaced by patriarchism that promised a progress and a civilization. The principles of competition built by patriarchism now give rise to new enemies for the feminist as equally powerful and dangerous from his own father: Capitalism. Capitalism is a consequence of the principle of endless competition built by patriarchal society. In this case, it is not capitalism that preserves patriarchal culture, but patriarchal cultures give space and opportunity for capitalism to thrive and be invincible. Gender Conflict : Reality or imagination? From the historical concept that the author tried to point out above still get a rebuttal because it seems imposed. But Bachofenâs thought is not an image. Several decades later there have been many researches on communication patterns and the psychological dimensions between the genders. One of todayâs linguistic linguists is Deborah Tannen. The results of his research prove the existence of differences in basic communication patterns in men and women. Men tend to promote Ethics of Right, they build a communication to achieve status, male communication patterns are filled with something called Nietczhe as desire for power and hierarchy. While women prioritize Ethics of Care and tend to communicate to build a relationship, in this case women emphasize the principle of equality, women will always fight with the dominance of any kind due to his desire for the equivalent, when men clashed with all kinds of Domination due to the unwillingness to lose and oppressed. This description is not an attempt to be sexist, this is a prove by a professor of linguistics from Georgetown University. In the eyes of women, equality is an antecedent. While some men pursue equality as a consequence. This asymmetry becomes a vital source of conflict. Indeed, we no longer need to ask where the conflict between the gender. The fight between two men will be strong as they build the same competition principle. But the feud between men and women becomes an unequal and never-ending feud. Caused for women conflict will stop when equality has been reached, but in male communication, the conflict will stop when there has been found a winner. Feminism: A Continuous Catharsis From these conflicts, Feminism, which became popular with the Suffragettes movement in UK, came as a catharsis. These marginalized conflicts did seem latent before that time, a breakthrough of the resistance movement that opened the eyes of the whole world that women workers were deeply wounded by their helplessness in the face of oppression in the era of industrial revolution. This oppression continues to this day, women are now no longer an object and have even become a tool of oppression itself. The era of Capitalism is now dragging women into diving in the flow of competition. Until the reveal of many Post-Feminist movement are no longer asking for equality, but are further dragged into the pattern of patriarchal communication that requires women to give birth to a position exchange movement to dominate. Oppression, patriarchism, and capitalism are not gender-sensitive. But they are born out of balance of gender communication. According to Tannen, when men sit with other men, it is more likely to create rules that require competition and hierarchy than when men sit with women. Feminist dreams are not interrupted by 30% in parliament. It was a superficial and hasty conclusion. The voice in parliament does not have the slightest of the Feminist ideals. Feminism dreams of a just and equitable society order, feminism tries to provide a balanced space, where masculinity and femininity combine into a harmony. Feminism directly against the concept of patriarchy and its derivatives, of which are Capitalism and Market Principles. In achieving this, the Feminist movement prepared many missions to fight for. One way is to enter parliament in the hope that new constitutions will be more sensitive to gender differences. As noted by Rocky Gerung, âFeminists are tired of boasting the reason for the high mortality of mothers and children, because of bacterial in the hospital.â Feminists understand this simply because of gender notions in the state budget. There are many more feminist political endeavors in fighting for their ethical feminists, not just with the movement of consciousness towards fellow women. In addition, the feminist movement also tries to free human beings from stereotypes by engaging them in the struggle for equality. Then what kind of equality does feminists aspire to? Feminism envisioned a harmonious equality in an asymmetrical order. The point is that feminism yearns for an equality that allows the unconditional and unimpressed right of life for all classes, even for men. Feminism yearns for an acceptance of the psychological and linguistic asymmetry that becomes the basic instinct of men and women. Feminism dreams of an equal, just, free society of oppression but still progressing. But this new feminist movement is still fragmented due to too many patriarchal products to be resisted. They are still wondering about who is the specific enemy of feminism, and why bringing the concept of one gender in the struggle for equality. Feminism takes aim at the same enemies as other resistance movements, but an epistemic process that brings different philosophical assumptions that make feminism marginalized and perceived as an egocentric movement to this day If we try to understand the feminist ethic more deeply, we will find the fact that feminism offers a more complex and have intersectionality form. Equality that enables everyone to feel safe and comfortable under its auspices, where this equality provides a place for all concepts of thought, even those of a competitive principle. A hope that is still very long to arrive at this feminist ideals, we cant make it alone. We still provide empty seats for men to join and fight together, toward the Future of Feminists.

Pope Francis: âCatholic Church committed to protecting migrantsâ
(Vatican Radio)Â Pope Francis has sent a message to the President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino) on the occasion of its 33rd General Assembly.
Addressing his letter to Ms. Blanca AlcalĂĄ, the Parlatino president, Pope Francis reflects on migration in Latin America and the Caribbean, the theme of the Assembly.
He said the initiative âaims to help and make life more dignified for those who, having a homeland, regrettably do not find in their countries adequate conditions of security and subsistence, and are compelled to migrate to other places.â
The Holy Father goes on to highlight three words related to migration: reality, dialogue, and commitment.
Related to reality, he said that behind every emigrant lies âa human being with a history of his own, with a culture and ideals.â
âDialogue,â he said, âis essential to foster solidarity with those who have been deprived of their fundamental rights, as well as to increase willingness to accommodate those who flee from dramatic and inhuman situations.â
Turning to commitment, Pope Francis renewed his call âto stop human trafficking, which is a scourge. Human beings cannot be treated as objects or commodities, for each one carries with him the image of God.â
In conclusion, the Pope urged governments to protect all those who reside in their territory, despite their provenance.
âI reiterate the commitment of the Catholic Church, through the presence of the local and regional Churches, to responding to this wound that many brothers and sisters of ours carry with them.â

To Ms. Blanca AlcalĂĄ
President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament
Madam President,
On the occasion of the Forum âHigh Level Parliamentary Dialogue on Migration in Latin America and the Caribbean: Realities and Commitments towards Global Compactâ, I greet you as President and, along with you, all who will take part in this event. I congratulate you on this initiative that aims to help and make life more dignified for those who, having a homeland, regrettably do not find in their countries adequate conditions of security and subsistence, and are compelled to migrate to other places.
From the title of your meeting I would like to highlight three words, which invite reflection and work: reality, dialogue and commitment.
First, reality. It is important to know the reason for migration and what characteristics it presents in our continent. This requires not only analysis of this situation from âthe study deskâ, but also in contact with people, that is to say with real faces. Behind every emigrant there is a human being with a history of his own, with a culture and ideals. Aseptic analysis produces sterile measurements; on the other hand, a relationship with a person in the flesh helps us to perceive the deep scars that he carries with him, caused by the reason, or the unreason, of his migration. This meeting will help to provide valid responses for migrants and host countries, as well as ensuring that agreements and security measures are examined from direct experience, observing whether or not they conform to reality. As members of a large family, we must work to place the âpersonâ at the centre (cf. Address to the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See, 9 January 2017); this is not a mere number or an abstract entity but a brother or sister who needs our help and a friendly hand.
Dialogue is indispensable in this work. One cannot work in isolation; we all need each other. We have to be âcapable of leaving behind a throwaway culture and embracing one of encounter and acceptanceâ (Message for the World Day of the Migrant and the Refugee, 2014). Joint collaboration is necessary to develop efficient and equitable strategies for the reception of refugees. Achieving a consensus between the parties is a âcraftâ; a meticulous, almost imperceptible task but essential for shaping agreements and regulations. All elements must be offered to local governments as well as to the international community in order to develop the best pacts for the good of the many, especially those who suffer in the most vulnerable areas of our planet, as well as in some areas of Latin America and the Caribbean. Dialogue is essential to foster solidarity with those who have been deprived of their fundamental rights, as well as to increase willingness to accommodate those who flee from dramatic and inhuman situations.
In order to respond to the needs of migrants, commitment is needed from all parties. We cannot dwell on the detailed analysis and the debate of ideas, but we are forced to give a solution to this problem. Latin America and the Caribbean have an important international role and the opportunity to become key players in this complex situation. In this effort, âthere is a need for mid-term and long-term planning which is not limited to emergency responsesâ (Address to the Diplomatic Corps accredited to the Holy See, 11 January 2016). This serves to establish priorities in the region also with a vision of the future, such as the integration of migrants in host countries and assistance in the development of countries of origin. To these are added many other urgent actions, such as care for minors: âAll children ⌠have the right to recreation; in a word, they have the right to be childrenâ (Message for the World Day of Migrants and Refugees, 2017). They need our care and help, as do their families. In this regard, I renew my call to stop human trafficking, which is a scourge. Human beings cannot be treated as objects or commodities, for each one carries with him the image of God (cf. Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, 197-201).
The work is enormous and we need men and women of good will who, with their concrete commitment, can respond to this âcryâ that rises from the heart of the migrant. We cannot close our ears to their call. I urge national governments to assume their responsibilities to all those residing in their territory; and I reiterate the commitment of the Catholic Church, through the presence of the local and regional Churches, to responding to this wound that many brothers and sisters of ours carry with them.
Finally, I encourage you in this task that you are carrying out, and I implore the intercession of the Holy Virgin. May She, who also experienced migration in the flight to Egypt with her spouse and her Son Jesus (Mt 2: 13), keep and sustain you with her maternal care.
Please, I ask you to pray for me; and I ask the Lord to bless you.

Man and His Symbols-Carl Jung
Symbols express something unknown to us. They are meaningful in themselves, and not purely representative. They arenât signs as conscious thought is under the influence of the unconscious, which is always present.
The unconscious presents the thing (object) from sense experience without a word, language being necessary for self-conscious awareness. The unconscious is intentional, the content is repressed with an expenditure of energy for the purpose of being unconscious. Association with the word would remove our ability to think, use language, without bringing up unwanted thoughts.
The unconscious can be brought to conscious awareness by use of symbols. Ordinary discourse can distract from what is motivating our actions by introducing resistance. Free verbal association without resistance from the analyst can bring out what is repressed by concentrating on the meaning behind words, without forcing the meaning into another metaphor.
The unconscious does not afford exact localization in space. We are free to use concepts from natural science as metaphors, but should not reduce the unconscious to the physical metaphors.
The unconscious is not just a repository for archaic ideas from our personal past. The symbols we use in conscious interpersonal discourse get their power from a shared unconscious. Such inherited forms allow us to understand one another at a deeper level in discourse, symbolically, than as signs representing something else in the world.
Dreams are our best way to explore the meaning of symbols, of exploring the unconscious. Dreams occur regularly and their content is the least regulated and restricted from awareness.
Dreams have their own meaning, they must be interpreted as they are. Dreams are fantastical and should not be reduced to the dayâs events or taken as literal truth but for their symbolic relation to the unconscious.
âThe main task of dreams is to bring back a sort of "recollectionâ of the prehistoric, as well as the infantile world, right down to the level of the most primitive instincts.â
This is where we begin, with the individual to their personal history and then to deeper instinctual drives in the unconscious.
Jungâs dream: "I dreamed that I was in âmy home,â apparently on the first floor, in a cozy, pleasant sitting room furnished in the manner of the eighteenth century. I was astonished that I had never seen this room before, and began to wonder what the ground floor was like. I went downstairs and found the place was rather dark, with paneled walls and heavy furniture from the sixteenth century or even earlier. My surprise and curiosity increased. I wanted to see more of the whole structure of this house. So I went down to the cellar, where I found a door opening onto a flight of stone steps that led to a large vaulted room. The floor consisted of large slabs of stone and the walls seemed very ancient. I examined the mortar and found it was mixed with splinters of brick. Obviously the walls were of Roman origin. I became increasingly excited. In one corner, I saw an iron ring on a stone slab. I pulled up the slab and saw yet another narrow flight of steps leading to a kind of cave, which seemed to be a prehistoric tomb, containing two skulls, some bones, and broken shards of pottery. Then I woke up.â
âThe dream is in fact a short summary of my own life, more specifically of the development of my own mind. I grew up in a house 200 years old, our furniture consisted mostly of pieces about 300 years old, and mentally my hitherto greatest spiritual adventure had been to study the philosophies of Kant and Schopenhauer. The great news of the day was the work of Charles Darwin. Shortly before this, I had been living with the still medieval concepts of my parents, for whom the world and men were still presided over by divine omnipotence and providence. This world had become antiquated and obsolete. My Christian faith had become relative through its encounter with Eastern religions and Greek philosophy. It was for this reason that the ground floor was so still, dark, and obviously uninhabited.
"My intuition consisted of the sudden and most unexpected insight into the fact that my dream drapes the myself, my life and my world, my whole reality against a theoretical structure erected by another, strange kind for reasons and purposes of its own. It was not Freudâs dream, it was mine; and I understood suddenly in a flash what my dream meant.â
Dream analysis is individualistic, there are no ciphers.
âThe individual is the only reality. The further we move away from the individual toward abstract ideas about Homo sapiens, the more likely we are to fall in errorâŚbut if we are to see things in their right perspective, we need to understand the past of man as well as his present.â
We must understand the patientâs predilection and forget our own prejudices.
âLearn as much as you can about symbolism; then forget it all when you are analyzing a dreamâ
Dreams have a compensatory role for individuals. The same dream can have different meanings.
Dream analysis is a dialectical technique between persons.
How well an individual functions is partly determined socially, through relationships.
Obsessive and emotional dreams are of a different nature, relating to needs more fundamental than those of conscious origin.
Elements occur in dreams that arenât individual and not derived from personal experience. Aka archetypes, primordial images.
Motifs are not archetypes, as they are conscious representations. Not inherited.
âThe term "archetypeâ is often misunderstood as meaning certain definite mythological images or motifs. But these are nothing more than conscious representations; it would be absurd to assume that such variable representations could be inherited.â
"The archetype is a tendency to form such representations of a motif-representations that can vary a great deal in detail without losing their basic pattern.
Freud hinted at this with archaic remnants: "mental forms whose presence cannot be explained by anything in the individualâs own life and which seem to be aboriginal, innate, and inherited shapes of the human mindâ. Freud however linked them with the biological drives of sexuality and death, reducing mental life to representing only biological imperatives. Archetypes represent needs beyond love and hunger owing to their inherited innate nature. They are self perpetuating.
Collective symbols are chiefly religious and both human and inhuman in origin, owing to the common descent of the species but also common descent of different peoples.
âIf archetypes were representations that originated in our consciousnessâŚwe should surely understand themâ
Instincts are physiological urges perceived by the senses, having a mental as well as a behavioral aspect. They manifest themselves in fantasy and are revealed in symbols. Their manifestations are archetypes. Without known origin, reproduced across time and place.
âIt is even conceivable that the early origins of mans capacity to reflect come from the painful consequences of violent emotional clashesâŚthe shock of a similar emotional experience is often needed to make people wake up and pay attention to what they are doing.â
Our consciousness is an ephemeral adaptation to the needs of the unconscious self.
âThe unconscious, however, seems to be guided chiefly by instinctive trends, represented by corresponding thought forms-that is, by the archetypes.â
The unconscious is more descriptive of our mental life and our self than the conscious is.
Dreams can be predictive. It doesnât ignore like consciousness does. It can be guided by trends, corresponding to known archetypes. Archetypes are dynamic.
âSomething that is of a more or less unknown nature has been intuitively grasped by the unconscious and submitted to an archetypal treatment. This suggests that, instead of the process of reasoning that conscious thought would have applied, the archetypal mind has stepped in and taken over the task of prognostication. The archetypes thus have their own intuitive and their own specific energy. These powers enable them both to produce a meaningful interpretation (in their own symbolic style) and to interfere in a given situation with their own impulses and their own thought formations. Complexes compensate for faulty attitudes, myths compensate for the sufferings of mankind in general.â
Complexes are compensations in the personal unconscious, myths are compensations for the collective unconscious.
The self is the totality of our conscious, personal unconscious, and the shared collective unconscious which are made manifest through the ego. The shadow self is what isnât reconciled into our self and remains in opposition, closest to our irrational and more primitive instincts. In the collective unconscious the self and the shadow are the hero archetype and the villain archetype, protagonist and antagonist.
Individuation reconciles opposites within the psyche. Life is the process of becoming an individual.
Individuation reconciles opposites within the psyche. Life is the process of becoming an individual.
âThese four functional types correspond to the obvious means by which consciousness obtains its orientation to experience. Sensation (I.e sense perception) tells you that something exists; thinking tells you what it is; feeling tells you whether it is agreeable or not; and intuition tells you whence it comes and where it is goingâ
There are also extrovert and introvert personalities. Extroverts are driven toward the outer world, toward others, while introverts have their energy directed inward, toward mind and feeling.
The persona is how our ego presents itself to the external social world which adapts the ego to the outer world instead of reconciling or accepting the deep aspects of the self, what becomes manifested in the shadow self.
Personality relates to the persona, character relates to the self. Personality is our conscious relation to the world, by sensing, thinking, feeling, intuition, extroversion or introversion. A composite type is presented to the world to meet our instinctual needs. The complexes compensate for what is missing in conscious life and remains in the unconscious, personal and collective.
The anima and animus are the respective female and male aspects of ourselves. These feminine and masculine aspects remain in the personal unconscious because of our speciesâ bisexual constitution, our birth from a mother and a father.
Fundamental to the anima/animus is the passive/active orientation toward the world developed during youth, during the anal stage, which relate to the introvert/extrovert orientation towards the world. We strive for self-mastery as we separate from others early in life and must provide for our needs. We learn to receive as well as to provide. In potty training, when to withhold and contain and when to expel and direct.
The Mother Earth and God the father are manifestations of anima/animus from the collective unconscious relating to the metaphysical division between matter and form, the ovum and the sperm, the passive-receiving (feminine) aspect and the active-providing (masculine) aspect of the world. The demiurge master craftsman forms the earth from preexisting matter.

sisyphus and the machine
1.
âI feel like Iâm being turned into a machine.â
I hated translating. The only thing interesting about it was the hate I felt for it: why did I feel this way? Was it the sense of going nowhere, the repetitiveness of the job?Â
2.
To fear being âturned into a machineâ is a common enough refrain, describing a process formalized by Marx and his many acolytes in their theories regarding reification. But do coders feel as if they are turning into machines? They do work with machines all day, and coders have a reputation for being anti-social, a most inhuman trait.Â
But I have a feeling they donât. The whole point of programming is, well, to program: to make machines do the repetitive, machine-y bits so human beings are left with the work that machines canât do, like interpretive dance or novel-writing.Â
3.
But itâs a funny thing these days: there are machines now that âdoâ both, interpretive dance and novel-reading (perhaps not at the same time). However, a machine canât appreciate interpretive dance or novelsânot to our knowledge, at leastâand itâs this appreciative faculty where our supposed humanity really lies, not in the creation of the object-of-appreciation per se. Â
But a machine isnât a machine because it does repetitive things; such a definition fails to explain why so many people are into, say, knitting or sports. Itâs really the mindlessness of the repetition that makes the task machine-like. I was turning into a machine.
A machine is a machine because it doesnât appreciate what itâs doing. Our appreciation makes us human.
4.
I suppose this is where the âhumanâ in âhumanitiesâ comes in. The humanities arenât about the creation of aesthetic artifacts (like the arts are); the humanities are about the appreciation of them. It is an examination into this appreciation, into that very thing (appreciation) which makes us human. Translation, like criticism, is interesting only insofar as it is a tool for appreciation. And I was simply incapable of appreciating the work I was doing.
5.
I leave Sisyphus at the foot of the mountain! One always finds oneâs burden again. But Sisyphus teaches the higher fidelity that negates the gods and raises rocks. He, too, concludes that all is well. This universe henceforth without a master seems to him neither sterile nor futile. Each atom of that stone, each mineral flake of that night-filled mountain in itself forms a world. The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a manâs heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy.
There is potential meaning in âeach atom of that stone, each mineral flake of that night-filled mountain.â As long as Sisyphus is able to appreciate the prospect of such meanings, he will be fine. He will even be happy.
