German* food poll but we have meatless options
A while ago everyone did those regional food polls and i wanted to do one back then but forgot... anyway. If you don't eat meat the options can be very limited in (traditional) restaurants around here. I wanted to do one with dishes that don't typically contain meat or can at least be easily adapted. Also yes this is kind of based on both my personal tastes and experiences so it's biased towards southern food, lmao. If you're vegan please just pretend it's a vegan version it's almost impossible to find options otherwise
*yes some of these are technically considered to be from Austria or France but they're still incredibly common in the regions near the border.

Based on a real game I used to play with my friends/cousins when we were little lol. You hold the firecracker for as long as possible before throwing it. Don't try this at home.

There are a few things going on right now in regards to my writing:
Handling requests for full-length fics and slowly churning through the kissing booth requests (I love doing both of these, it is a favourite). So, so many kisses. So many tropes. I love it.
Starting Pollen for Ace while writing pollen for Mihawk. This has been an entertaining comparison to write for. We love seeing what neediness looks like on Mihawk, and little whimpers from Ace while he's holding back.
Carving out a fic gift swap for a beautiful mutual who wrote me a gift, which is turning out to be very cathartic and angsty to write for our beautiful Rosinante. Au, he comes back - but only for a day. It is heartbreaking, and I am mourning while writing it.
Writing some unhinged smut to cope with the trauma induced from the prior point. Also for Rosinante. Who doesn't want to see the big, soldier man jealous?
Forcing down the desire to write for a protective and possessive Doflamingo caring for his partner as they lay overcome with illness in their bed. I dunno if it's the health-scare drawing me to him, but the need is there regardless. Need him to be a force of nature while helpless and possessive: nothing he can do, comparisons drawn to his mother.
Writing some more 'Hey Doc' to get rid of the sillies.
If you have any questions or thoughts about any of these, please send asks! I love talking about these silly little guys 🖤

allergy season attacks hawkins particularly badly one year and it hits steve like a freight train. stuffed nose, headaches, body chills, fatigue, the works. he's never been good at being sick; he gets too whiney and too dependent on those around him even though he can indeed get out of bed to make his own bowl of cereal. and poor eddie has no idea what to do so he makes steve the thing his momma would make him when he was sick, the cure all to feeling better: chicken and dumplings.
eddie's in the kitchen for hours as he tries to perfect the recipe, calling up wayne to help decipher his sister's handwriting from an old recipe rolodex, shooing steve out of the kitchen when he comes in moaning and pitiful and seeking cuddles. the dumplings might turn out too tough and lumpy and the broth a little too salty, but he's proud of himself nonetheless. eddie carries the bowl into their room on a little tray with a gentle smile and extra biscuits on the side, and pulls a chair up to the bedside to spoonfeed steve like the miserable baby he is all because of a stuffy nose.
but the first bite has steve grimacing, causing eddie's smile to shift into a frown as he blows on another bite so it won't be too hot.
"you don't like it?" eddie asks, pouting and giving the puppy dog eyes to end all other puppy dog eyes.
and steve doesn't have the heart to tell him that he's never liked chicken and dumplings, even when his great-grandma made it that one time she visited and made the dumplings from scratch. so he forces himself to smile, forces his face to unpinch and happily take another bite as eddie offers it.
"no, it's not that," he says as well as he can around a mouth of food and stopped-up nose. "just can't taste all that much right now, you know 'cause of the mouth breathing and stuff, and that bite was just a bit too hot and... umm..."
with no more excuses coming to his allergy-riddled brain, steve opens his mouth like a baby bird and eddie grins like there's no place he'd ever want to be and feeds him another bite of his least favorite food in the world. or well, that's not entirely true since this version is his new favorite, and it's all because of the love that was put into it. so he'll hide his disgust and eat the goddamn chicken and dumplings if it means steve will get to see more of those smiles from eddie.

The thing about me is that I'm always one step away from wanting gyoza. Any mention of gyoza or dumplings in general and I'm like damn I want gyoza. They're so good. Basically the ideal food. I should get gyoza.

the way food is used in bucchigiri to convey relationships is so fun to look at, thinking about how arajin's mom makes sekihan (red bean rice) to uh...congratulate him in the final episode

"The Uphill River"
A small little blurb from chapter ten of the rewrite. Yes I am still writing it.
The next task she was put to was pulling stems of apples for Quinn and Kol as they worked on the list of the Queen’s pastries. Yale assisted in gathering whatever ingredients needed for their work, dashing to and from cold storage to fetch various dried and fresh fruits and herbs. And a crock of butter almost as tall as Nenani. She walked around it, eyes wide in wonder, battling the very real urge to stick her finger into it. Without even looking away from the list in his hands, Yale reached over to lay his fingers on her shoulders and gently turned her away from the butter. He pointed to a spot closer to him in a wordless command and another bowl of apples needing their stems plucked for the Ibronian pastries they were making.
Nenani knew a little of Ibronian cooking, only due to having lived in fair proximity to the Ibronain sailors and dock workers littering the port. They liked their wine sweet and liberally applied anywhere there was room. The apples Nenani prepared were lightly crushed, only to break them open, and put aside to macerate in wine as the dough came together.
“Are ye sure it doesn’t say anything about butter in this recipe? Even at the end?” Kol asked as he pressed the shaggy dough into a pile and drive the ball of his fist into the center.
“I’m sure,” Quin replied, reading over the recipe one more time. “No butter. The next recipe looks like it uses a good bit, but not for this one.”
“Don’t seem right not to have butter in the dough. It’ll be flavorless.”
Quinn flicked Kol’s ear as he passed him with the bowl of apples and wine. “If you add butter and we get torn into because ye broke some sacred Ibrinaian pastry law, I’m shaving yer head after we’re released from the stockades.”
“Fine, I won’t add any butter,” Kol replied with a petulant frown. “Just don’t see how it’ll taste very good. Would make a nicer crumb.”
They stopped their work briefly to eat a small meal. Bowls from one the large cauldrons that Yale called “the perpetual brew” were doled out to everyone. It was a dark colored stew not unlike forever pottage, but instead of a thick soup of grains and barely, there were root vegetables, various bits of meat, and several types of beans.
As Nenani ate her portion, she fished something odd from the bottom of her bowl. It was as long as her finger and looked very much like a stick. She tried to bite into it and grimaced. It was a stick. When she showed Yale, he and the bakers all burst into laughter.
“Must be a bit of sweet pine,” Quinn said.
“I forget sometimes Humans don’t really eat trees, eh? Supposed yer teeth are too soft for it,” said Yale.
“What? You eat trees?” Nenani asked.
“Sometimes,” Yale explained. “It’s more common to eat them in winter when stores run low. Ye cut down a few in spring when they’re sweetest and store them in the cellar for winter. Grind it up for bread. It’s not as nice as wheat, but it’s food. Mostly folks pop a few branches into soup for the flavor. Like ye were saying about the bay laurel.”
“And if ye can’t afford sugar or honey, lots of folks use a spoon carved from sweet pine and use it to stir tea and it’ll sweeten it a bit,” Kol added in. “Not as much as sugar or honey, but it works well enough.”
Nenani observed the stick held between her fingers with equal measures of curiosity and revulsion. It had softened somewhat from its time spent boiling in the stew. But it was still unmistakenly a stick. She could not decide if they were trying to trick her or not. Looking between the three of them, they seemed sincere enough. She put it back into her mouth and chewed on it. The fibers broke apart and she could taste a faint sweetness. “It’s a little sweet.”
“Told ye,” said Yale.
She removed it from her mouth. “But it’s still a stick.”
“Ah, yer teeth are just too soft to fully appreciate sweet pine,” Yale replied. He fished a piece of sweet pine from his own bowl and ate it, chewing happily as Nenani made a face at him.
Quinn laughed and added, “Don’t tell her about pinecone jam.”

just binged all your maws meta and WOW i’m vindicated. never liked the show but especially for all the reasons you said, and it’s especially nice to know im not “siding with dudebros” for disliking it.
also extremely crazy that we had the same idea for lois almost?? in my head if dc would hire me i would write her as chinoy with special attention to how american occupation ties into her history… (personally my mom always wanted to be a journalist but felt it was safer to do something else…), reading your chindo lois is like WOW. YOU READ MY MIND.
one last question: i know it’s a bit passé now thanks to #him, but my mom and i watched lois & clark together and i think the show (at least, s1-2 really) still holds up well despite being from the 90s. have you ever seen it? silly fact: when my mom first watched it in the philippines, she legit thought clark could be filipino in that show 😭
omg I love how the jesncin-talks-maws tag is becoming a safe space for Based MAWS dislikers :'D Because it's rough out here! It's really unfair how online spaces in particular have created a black and white culture war over My Adventures with Superman so that no nuanced criticism can come out of it. It just rewards corporations for doing less than the bare minimum and validates them into producing more mediocre stuff. They don't need our protection!! And wow thank you for reading all that!
AAAAH A CHINOY LOIS WOULD BE AMAZING! I love how her history with American occupation could put a much needed critical look into "Truth Justice and the American Way". Man, I'd love for an Asian Lois that could help people like your mom feel seen like that :') I can only hope Chindo Lois comes close to doing something similar. Also special fact, Lois Liando's chindo dad (Yunus Liando) is loosely inspired off of Junus Nur Arif, a chindo journalist.
Oh I'm definitely aware of The Recent Things Wasian Superman Said (yikes) but I'm unfortunately really behind on my classic Superman-adapted media watch! I'm in a Young Justice watch right now but I'd love to check out older Superman shows. I totally see it though!! The wasian features are strong in this man.

If you could eat any monster from dungeon meshi, which one would it be and why?
Not a particular monster, but the dish i wanted the most was FAIRY RING CHANGELING'D ASSORTED MULTICULTURAL DUMPLINGS. Oh my god. I think a lot about how dumpling style food from every culture covers most of my favorite dishes, and Im also someone who prefers sampling food here and there instead of eating a lot of one thing. So seeing this panel just made me like extremely excited
Tumblr media
I have to think harder about a particular monster..I really wanna try stuff with slime and Im delighted by all of the uses for it. The man-eating plant tart uses slime gelatin as a binding agent and it looks so good.
Tumblr media
Also not a monster but the exorcism sorbet was so delightful, the way they made it made me smile and it looks so good
Tumblr media
Unfortunately I quickly feel sick if I eat too much of one thing (especially really savory food) and I really like light foods, so although most of the dishes in dungeon meshi looked amazing they are probably a bit too heavy for me to eat more than a couple bites of so I really loved seeing unique light dishes like these here and there
