I have a small(ish) collection of witchcraft books, all of which I got for free when someone dropped them off as a library donation (we weren't going to add them to the collection, so I just took 'em). And I keep debating about passing them on to whoever might want them because, like, I'm not doing anything with them. They're just hanging out and taking up space. Most of the titles are still in print. A lot of them are basic Llewellyn publications. One is just a basic Big Blue Buckland. A number of them are by Cunningham or Campanelli (and Silver Ravenwolf lmao). So it's not like they're rare books.

But then I'll flip through one just to see if it should stay or go and I'll come across the most ridiculous made-up nonsense Golden Bough "secret European witch cult" sacred feminine bullshit that I have seen in many a year and I'm like "Fuck. Now I want to keep it."

Yep. And angel numbers were invented by Doreen Virtue, who has somewhat recently disavowed all New Age beliefs and gone for born again Christianity.

Susannah suppressed a chuckle through her mug at the mention of the dreaded citrus and mint combination-another mistake she made in her youth that she had never forgotten, and for good reason! Still, it was nice to know she and Philippe were in a similar boat in that regard, these little mishaps with less-than-pleasant flavor combinations...

The chime of the clock brought her out of her reverie, and so she was quick to drain her mug. As lovely as a cup of freshly brewed coffee was, it did not a dinner make, and so she rose to join him, her newly-caffeinated stomach now alive with butterflies as she shyly linked arms with him, looking like any other couple one would find on the street.

Where will we go for dinner? she wondered to herself, as they exited the cafe and headed back out onto the street, to get a further lay of the land. Obviously, both of them were plenty familiar with Southern comfort food and good ol' Creole cuisine, and of course, he was as familiar with French fare as she was with Irish, but she wondered...would they go with what they knew, or would they shake it up? She supposed, since they were on vacation, it wouldn't hurt to be daring and try something new...

"Anything in mind?" she asked him curiously as they walked along together-perhaps, in his planning for this vacation, he found an excellent restaurant he was excited to try with her!

I think one thing that can be very helpful in witch and pagan communities is safe places to discuss lingering fears instilled in some of us by pervasive fundamentalism.

Like, I recently learned about Doreen Virtue and her descent into fundamentalism. From my understanding, she had always incorporated Christianity into her work before preaching a more Evangelical version of Christianity and pretty much slapping her followers in the face by condemning her old work as evil.

The thing about people like Doreen, is that while I imagine it was disappointing for people who took to her work, but I cannot say I'm surprised that she went the way she did. Speaking from experience, all it takes is for someone to talk about the burning pits of Hell and I'm triggered back to the days of when I was a child and dreaded every mistake I made and had nightmares about the devil and going to Hell. Fundamentalism is terrifying, and all it takes is a few bad influences to get someone on board.

I think we really need to be more open about lingering fears that some of us still have about Heaven and Hell, because if we don't talk to each other about it, someone on the fundamentalist side will.

Also, we can do this without alienating Christo-pagans and Christian witches. They absolutely deserve to be welcome in our communities.

A change is taking place within an existing emotional relationship today. The respect and love you had for this person is not being reciprocated anymore. There seems no desire on your part to confront the situation other than hope that whatever is going on in their life will dissipate and restore the relationship back to the way it was. In the meantime carry on with what you are currently doing. When they are ready to open up all will be revealed and explained.

Seems the New agers are aware of Doreen virtue's shift to born again and seem to be just as confused about it as everyone else who cares, which is ironic considering how Christian they all are

New Agers are culturally Christian as hell, but they really do not like institutional Christianity.
