What bothers me about Korra hate is that she doesn't get the same grace that other Avatars (or other characters in general) have from the fandom. I mean, it's obvious as to why.

Some will act as if Korra couldn't grow from her mistakes or even have. Or even act like the other Avatars didn't make mistakes, even while grown adults.

Don't even get me started on comparing the traumas. That's just not cool to do that. Korra may not have had her people wiped out, but the pain she faced (like every season it felt like) is no less than the pain Aang faced.

They both went through it, at young ages even.

Whether you see it or not, each Avatar had to go through the aftermath of the other previous Avatar's actions. Aang is my boy and all, but let's not act like his time as Avatar didn't have some effect on Korra.

That's how a cycle works.

People were upset about the character assassinations of the original characters from ATLA (and I get it), but then it's like the anger was directed at Korra as if her existence was the problem.

No... no, she is a character like everyone else.

"Korra was this, Korra was that".

She's not allowed to have flaws? Oh, I see why. Mhm. I forgot that female characters, let alone brown skinned ones aren't allowed to.

She out here facing end of the world threats, constantly getting captured and beat up and she says anything cocky that's played for laughs even and some of you act like she is the worst character there is.

Frankly, from the summary that we got for Seven Havens, I can see why some people are immediately on the fence about it.

Because it's like is Korra going to get a break ever? What happened to her (given there's a new Avatar, we know she died)? What about the other characters? And so on.

There's also the fact that when it comes to sequels... it's a hit or miss. Especially when characters from the previous entry are involved.

Personally, Seven Havens isn't getting my attention that much because I just don't care for apocalyptic settings, they were never really my thing. But it still has me intrigued because it is Avatar.

I am curious as the direction this sequel is going to go, and I'll give it a chance. I did with Legend of Korra and despite flaws, that show still did enough for me to put it on the list of shows I watched and enjoyed. It's not the worst show and I don't think it's fair that it's hated more than it should be, even long after it ended.

Be honest, you hate Korra not for her actions or even her behavior, do you? Let her have been male or/and of a lighter skin tone, she would have a lot more of the fandom with a book of reasons why she should given of a chance to be understood.

This is the point where I remind you that GMMTV announced 16 BLs for 2024 and didn't actually release 4 of them in 2024: My Golden Blood, Ossan‘s Love, Sweet Tooth Good Dentist, and The Ex-Morning.

So despite the fact that these are from GMMTV 2025 line up, some of them will not happen until 2026, and some could get dropped entirely or have cast changes.

More Disappointments

Thor didn't get the lead in anything. (Pouts in "but he so sexy.")

No major pairs were significantly busted.

Tonally it's gone darker than I expected. I prefer lighter fluffier BL so this tonal shift for GMMTV as a whole is not a win for me personally. Should be left to Japan IMHO.

That said, most of my favorite GMMTV pairs are in my top picks to watch as well, so I'm happy for that.

I'm Intrigued Despite Myself

My favorite trailer of all was actually Wu (red thread fated paranormals are my favoritest thing ever next to isekai) but that's not a branded pair so I'm not convinced it's BL. Hoping it is, but that happened in 2024 with these boys, so I'll leave it in the air for now.

I like that we're making push to leave uni and high school behind (don't worry, other Thai studios will fill the gap). I think GMMTV is doing this in order to

keep branded pairs together and

keep the actors of those pairs interested in the BL scripts.

As their major pairs age out of uni, GMMTV has to hand them more meaty and grown up stuff. I didn't think they would actually do this, so I'm pleased to see it happen. Even if it's all going darker than I like, at least it's different.

I don't really report on GL and I rarely have time to watch it these days. I thought the new MilkLove looked cute, but I'm still recovering from whatever happen in their last one. The Girl's Rules one looks like a light-weight L-Word. Still happy to see GMMTV move out of school for thier few GLs too.

One thing I love about tlok is how it cleary shows parental figures as real, human people who struggle and make mistakes, despite loving their children. I think a lot of media, especially for younger people has a tendency to polarise parent characters, characterising them as either ubiquitously good and caring, or malicious and abusive.

This was one of my biggest, if not only gripes with atla. The parents in that show were presented as very black and white. Ozai was an horrible father, who burned his son and used his daughter. Iroh is an always loving and supportive fatherly figure. Kya the og died for her daughter and we only hear good things about her. The most nuance had are in Ursa, Hakoda and the Beifongs. But even then, Ursa and Hakoda's 'parenting fails' are presented as out of their control, due to an abusive marriage or war respectively. And the Beifongs are mainly swept off to the side, being the least relevant to the story.

I understand why this was done, and I don't think its a bad choice entirely, especially with Hakoda and Ozai being somewhat foils of each other. But it's still feels like a bit of a boring brick wall in what usually is a very finely detailed storyline.

But tlok gives us a show of characters failing as parents, not out of malice like Ozai, but because parenting is hard.

I actually adore the choice to make Aang and Toph 'flawed parents'. They both cared for their children, but had a lot ot things in their lives that made it difficult to fully act on it. Aang was busy and dealing with the weight of the world and Toph had never been subjected to healthy parenting, therefore she struggled to adjust to it.

Tonraq and Tenzin also struggle to parent properly, their struggle coming from their daughters' respective growth. This is a common struggle many parents have as their kids grow up and it's nice to see it represented in a way that isn't just a parent wiping their tear with the old 'my lil girls all grown up and destroying things'. There's often resistance, there's butting heads, but that doesn't mean there is malice, or a lack of care and love.

Suyin is probably the most controversial mother/motherly figure in the show and that's why I love her so much. I've already yammered on about how Suyin's motherhood makes her so polarising in the fandom. But the long and short of it is that she combines both previously mentioned 'flaw types' and they feed into each other. She, like Toph, struggles due to having a poor parental figure, and she tries to compensate and cope through her family and Zaofu. This leads to her being overprotective and a bit controlling with her children. She responds emotionally when threatened or upsetm

But all of them, Aang, Toph, Tenzin, Tonraq and Suyin still love their children very much. Still care for them and still try, despite their difficulties. And I think that's something I love about tlok.

Is leverage redemption worth watching? I love Leverage but idk if i could enjoy the show if hardison isn't in most episodes or if the reboot sells out in some way.

okay so I showed up to this ask like four months late with a smoothie so I'm sorry about that BUT

does redemption have it's flaws? yes, I will be the first to admit that!

however, as someone who deeply loves leverage, the characters and what the show stands for, I still can find myself enjoying redemption.

there's one post that's in my drafts talking about the differences between the og and redemption and the so-called universe physics (how logic works in both shows and how they are the same/differ) and there are definitely some differences. there are some really good posts comparing them in the tags and I'll try to tag them as watch redemption when they come up!

I'm going to be really honest right now and say that (no shade) I feel like redemption s1-2 were lacking because john rogers was not a main writer for them. devlin and the others are great and know their stuff, but redemption was missing some of the grit (balanced with everything else) that the original run had. redemption is more fun and lighthearted (where the og was still fun and had comedic elements but also had a more jaded perspective). I think part of that change is the absence of nate as a character and what he brought to the table, but the other part of that is very much the way the show is written overall

I have seen some criticism about parker being a caricature of what she was in the original run (ex: how she goes to a child's psychologist and uses puppets sometimes, is overtly weird, more loud about stuff, etc) BUT I will say that I think there's some nuance to that

I don't think the child psychiatrist thing is infantalizing- some methods of therapy work for people more than others and that is me speaking as someone who works in mental health. if play therapy and stuff like that work for you as an adult, good for you! whatever works for you is more than enough the overtly and loudly being weird thing I really do think can be taken either way. in the original run part of parker's character progression was that she was learning how to interact with people normally (or at least more efficiently), but her being more out about that now can be taken as she is more comfortable in her skin and acting like she wants because she is surrounded by people who love and support her. maybe she doesn't want to (or have to!) mask all the time and I don't see a problem with that

HOWEVER! there are certain criticisms that are related to her characterizations and overlaps with her autism and I don't want to speak over the autism community about those aspects and how they have manifested in her character in redemption so I'm leaving it there

as for the hardison being absent aspect- I was REALLY afraid of that at first BUT the loss isn't so deeply impactful when you have characters like breanna and harry added to the mix. I went in ambivalent about harry and excited to have breanna (a canon queer) joining the team, but I have come to love and cherish both of them dearly and wouldn't want to replace them or lose them as characters in this found family ensemble. I think the writers handled aldis' packed schedule really well and even though he isn't there in most episodes, his presence is still very much around. parker and eliot talk about him and reference him when he's gone. so do sophie and breanna, even harry. he isn't on the screen but the relationships he's formed with the other characters and the impact he's had on them is very evident.

there are some takes from users about whether or not the ot3 was queerbait, un-canoned, etc in redemption. I have a lot of thoughts about it and a lot of them are incomprehensible but what I can say is that I have renewed hopes for the progression and canon development of their relationship now that john rogers is back as the main writer for s3

Since the og murder drones has themes about like friendship and being yourself and redemption and stuff, does that carry into your au? Like do you have certain themes in mind?

Of course! There are a lot of themes of the value and importance of friendships and/or finding a healthy support system and redemption for several characters!

J4D3 is kinda the main character and his whole thing is basically about how he finds the strength to do what he does and not let himself fall victim to hatred because of the people he surrounds himself with (his support system).

Several antagonist/morally grey characters get some form of a redemption (not all of them though). There's various bits there, from realizing they were mistaken and having the courage to admit it and make things right, admitting they were bad and their actions were wrong after realizing how their actions affected others, and even understanding that intention is everything. You might think you've gone too far to ever be redeemable, but as long as you have the desire and motivation to get out of that and actually try making an effort to change and get better, you have a chance.

There's a few other themes, too. I'll put this section beneath a cut since it ended up being longer than I planned. lol

Grace gets a bit that's basically about learning to love herself and all her flaws. She was at a point where she seriously believed she was unlovable (romantically or otherwise) due to her flaws. Darla obviously loves her, but Grace just chalked it up to a sisterly obligation. "Oh, you're only saying that because you're my sister." It was Toby that helped her understand that she was worth a lot more than she viewed herself to be and that there were people out there who would love her for who she is, flaws and all. (And she helped him go through a redemption arc. He was a Category 3, where he believed he'd gone too far and there was no point in trying to fix it anymore.)

My personal favorite is the dynamic between Lana and Ruby, who are intended to be parallels of sorts to one another. Both of them experienced trauma and/or a heavy loss that manifested into hatred, which was then channeled into revenge. It's a huge anti-revenge thing and a show of breaking the cycle of hate. Their hatred was over somewhat of a misunderstanding, which brought more harm than good during their revenge plots, but those two are so self-absorbed by their hate and blinded their pride of thinking they're in the right that they don't even realize it. After Cyn sent the Disassembly Drones to massacre the inhabitants of Earth, Lana experienced the loss of her husband and son at their hands. Her grief manifested into hatred of drones, and in an act of revenge, she began taking out her frustrations by abusing the lab drones. However, what she doesn't understand is that the drones were not acting of their own volition, they were under Cyn's control at the time. Cyn herself was also under direct control of the Solver entity and was not completely acting of her own free will either. The drones were just as much of a victim as the humans they were forced to kill. Lana has the misconception that it was a 100% willing endeavor and the drones intended to harm the humans, which is her justification for her actions. However, her abuse of the lab drones is what manifested Ruby's hatred. While she doesn't hate humans as a whole, she does hate the scientists and anyone affiliated with JCJenson because of Lana. That was channeled into a revenge plot to kill all of the scientists and company affiliates in order to free the drones and stop the abuse and mistreatment. However, that of course is also not the right choice here. While not all of the scientists or affiliates are aware of the abuse or okay with it, Ruby doesn't see it that way - a guilt by association type of mentality. While Ruby is aware that Lana lost her family, she doesn't know that drones are the ones that killed them, and likewise, doesn't understand why Lana is doing what she does or where the abuse stems from. (Not that it's okay.) Ruby's hatred of JCJenson causes her to antagonize Lana, which results in Lana getting pissed off and abusing the drones harder to get back at her. ...Which just pisses Ruby off and makes her antagonize harder- It's a vicious cycle those two are feeding into that's hurting everyone around them. Neither of them fully grasp why the other is doing what they're doing, but refuse to acknowledge or understand it because they're so self-absorbed and selfishly believe that only THEIR opinion is right and everyone else is totally wrong. And because they're so blinded by their pride, they don't even notice that all they're doing is hurting themselves and everyone else. They're doing more harm than good and their actions are actively feeding the cycle they want to stop.

It's kinda a cautionary tale of "hey man, stop the cycle of hate, abuse, and revenge, because look what happened to Lana and Ruby when they didn't!".

Another thing is how everyone processes trauma differently, but not all ways of processing it are acceptable. Look at the lab drones, for example. Topaz, Mindy, Roulette, Ian, and Ruby - all of them experienced the same types of horrors, but they all responded to them differently.

Mindy didn't hold it against anyone, despite the fact that she literally died because of the drones' maltreatment. She's just happy that her friends are okay. Topaz's trauma caused him to be more reclusive and untrusting of others. And because of how often those he was close to died, he became afraid of starting any kind of meaningful relationship with others over fear that they'd just be ripped away from him. Roulette didn't care much, now that he had the power to basically do whatever he pleased. He took on an "every man for himself" attitude and became a master manipulator for his own gain. He stopped caring about others' feelings or about the consequences of his actions as long as he got what he wanted. They were all just going to die later by some means anyway, so why bother caring? Ian began hating humans as a whole due to his trauma, though instead of wanting to hunt them all down, he just wanted to be left alone. Ruby developed a hatred for JCJenson and its affiliates specifically due to her trauma, which manifested into a strong desire to kill or otherwise bring harm to them to get back at them for what they've done (or her perceived slights against drones, in the case of those not directly involved).

Mindy coped the healthiest, while Ruby and Roulette coped the unhealthiest. It kinda shows that experiences (and reactions to them) are not universal, but they don't excuse unacceptable behavior, either. For example, it's understandable WHY Ruby would choose to kill the scientists, but it doesn't make it OKAY that she does so. Her method of coping is EXTREMELY unhealthy and unacceptable.

There's some other more minor/subtle ones in there, but this post is long enough as-is and I don't want to completely spoil EVERYTHING. lmao (I already spoiled a lot with this analysis thingy.)

A new AnderPerry Analysis

I will never get over the fact that instead of the OG screenplay's version of Neil being overly sour when he and Todd were alone and Todd being overly self-pitying, that (romantically or platonically), the movie version didn't make them project their worst traits onto the other as much.

(btw I never read the book sorry)

The "No <3" scene's main argument could've easily went on about Neil getting pissed at Todd for telling him to ask his father, that he wasn't just letting him be. The IMPORTANT moment, was right after seeing Todd afraid of Neil, the latter had that LOOK of REGRET.

OG script (no mention of Neil's regret/expression)

Todd and Neil basically ignore each other and Neil's protectiveness of Todd at the end is minimized :(

Movie Version

Properly displaying their current character flaws:

Neil: Hidden/Obvious resentment towards his father affecting his mood

Todd: Todd's reluctance to speak out more (esp after being shut down)

Fear, anxiety, shame

Regret, shame, frustration

This version of Neil knows he sounded like his father, he knows what he said was something damaging to Todd's motivations, he knows he doesn't wanna be like his father.

This version of Neil has empathy, which is why during the flying desk set, RSL and Ethan made a better effort to write a new Friend-bonding moment to bond over their shared parental neglect; rather than the OG 5.98 line

OG Script: Todd being self-pitying, Neil not comforting him properly.

Movie: Neil actively shows his character and tries to cheer up Todd <3

Neil actually understands Todd's plight, and rather than brushing off Todd's experiences, he decides to provide Todd with the paternal friendship he wished he got in his moments of doubt.

That's why before I even shipped these two, my natural instinct WAS to think they were best friends. Platonic soulmates that needed each other to validate their doubts, albeit Neil was the one who acted upon it first.

That's why it hurt more that Neil took his own life, because you literally see way more progress and hope for Neil's character compared to the OG script's heavily complacent or resentful Neil Perry.

Maybe, in Tom Schulman's mind, the OG Neil was always planning to end things this way, but for the movie version of Neil Perry that Peter Weir and RSL made had more to lose, more pain, was more lost and trapped because even after finding something that visually makes him happy, it was taken away from him.

[Side Tangent]

In my own way, it was harder to also accept that THIS version of Neil would want to take his own life because you'd think with a better perspective in life, with a greater friendship he could have with Todd in the future, that he would opt not to end things this way... but that's the point :( You can never tell who's really in pain, people may appear cheerful and happy on the outside, but depression is the same pain for all those affected by it.

[Tangent over]

The importance, again, of the Neil and Todd of the movie? They were far better friends/partners in the movie because they were actively improving each other. Neil and Todd, platonic or romantic, needed to have met each other. They deserve each other. To either lift up, improve, find someone else to understand and worry about than themselves. To have a friend you really needed.

The Dock Practice Scene didn't have "God I love this" "What, me?" lines lmao Ethan and RSL just shoved that in there to be fruity /j /lh

I have watched the last episodes of the 14th season over and over again, trying to justify their behaviour towards Jack, but it's just toxic. That's it. That's the word, you're right.

It pains me that Dean can be so toxic towards someone who is probably the purest character to be ever introduced in the story.

It's a given that they all have their own issues to deal with, and hey, the brothers are the star of the show, but this conflict they had with Jack just puts them under a bad light.

The formula of the OG Team Free Will making bad decisions every season is funny until it's finally not (cos, not gonna lie, I can be a bit biased cos I have a lot of love for our baby Jack). And the set up for Dean to treat Jack like trash so that he can be built up to be the one to sacrifice himself (again) for the "greater good" is just... I don't even know anymore.

I feel like I'm in denial that they really wrote Dean out to be one of the trashiest characters in the show.

They way he acts so angry everytime Castiel dies, but he doesn't even give a shit about what the seraph has to say everytime he gets ressurected... the way he shuts Castiel down as if his opinions don't matter, that he doesn't get to have a say in whatever pressing issue they have at hand... it frustrates me.

He is a flawed character, and maybe it's where the beauty of it all lies, but I am having a hard time appreciating it at times.

Well, Jack is definitely coming back in S15, so here's to hoping they finally treat one another right.

I just hate it that they throw the excuse that "you're family" every god damn time but they ever so easily abandon anyone who's not either Sam or Dean, or a Winchester by blood.

Somehow, it was Dean's insistence that Jack is still evil because he is Lucifer's son even if they nurture them with Castiel and Sam to guide him was what ultimately pushed Jack to his demise.

Jack became obsessed with proving and wanting to do good, to show Dean and his other fathers that he is good, just like how his mother wanted and believed him to be.

In this obsession to be good, he didn't bother for any self preservation, he was quick to understand the concept of sacrificing one's self to protect others, and he didn't even care to keep his soul just so he could be useful and that he could solve the biggest problem at the time.

He was the most powerful, but he was SO scared to let his fathers down, that he beat himself up whenever something he does out of good will goes wrong because he was too naive, he doesn't know how to cut himself some slack because he was literally still a child.

He NEVER gave himself the chance to rest and breathe.

So... that was all depressing.

Not that I wanna blame Dean, but I kinda do.

Go ahead, flame me. Jack deserved far better treatment especially after burning his soul to kill Michael.

He deserved all the understanding and the care and protection in the world.
