They rule over multiple planets. Hala is the capital.

Hala's star is called Pama

In the comics there are around five known planets in Hala's system - it's unclear if Hala is 4th or 5th planet because it's been confused with another planet, Turunal.

Hala is located in the Larger Magellanic Cloud

Hala had oceans and forests (rip to those tho lol)

Leader of the Empire is called the "Supremor"

The Supreme Intelligence was basically god

The collective is one idea of the afterlife — if your brain is worthy it joins the Supreme Intelligences database when you die.

The spiritual afterlife is called the Etherplex or something idk

Their technology is somewhat water based (need more info on this)

Architecture is heavy on metal and stone and is very geometric. Buildings are detailed but there generally isn't too much furniture.

The military is a big deal! Other respectable careers involve teaching, medicine, typically intelligent jobs that give something to society.

Kids are trained from a young age in the military. They're called "recruits". There's a deleted scene of Yon-Rogg teaching some.

The military hierarchy is likely Supremor > Accuser > Starforce > Kree Army > Non Kree Army > War slaves.

The Accusers aren't just extra bad military. They uphold the law, make arrests, hold trials, decide punishments, etc. I'd imagine that this is typically done for more important criminals or prisoners of war. That's why Dar-Benn holds an Accuser hammer as Supremor — she's upholding the law.

Kree Law is vaguely structured around the Tablets of Koth — they aren't definitive but they are the main basis.

Questioning your leaders is technically illegal

The worst crime of all is being "un-Kree".

Kree supremacy is big. In the comics it's illegal for Kree to have children with other species. They will tolerate other races if they’re feeling nice about it, but ultimately the Kree come first. This is important in the context of Carol's relationship with Yon-Rogg.

There's racism of blue Kree > non blue Kree in the comics but it doesn't appear to be present in the MCU. Keep it in mind though.

The Kree originally evolved to have blue skin because of low oxygen levels on Hala. Non blue kree came later as a result of mixing with other species. Since making babies with another species has been illegality for probably millenia, non blue Kree are now just another skin tone of the species.

Sexism isn't a thing. Yon-Rogg isn't sexist to Carol he's being racist too her lol

There are groups of noble families with some quite strict rules about battle. If a noble is cornered in battle with no way out they have to drink the special suicide juice or else they are shamed.

The suicide juice is called Odium, which means hate in Latin. If you sip it you go crazy with rage, get super strength and start trying to fight everything until it makes your heart explode

In the comics the Kree have double that of human organs — ie two hearts, four lungs. Brain is probably an exception. They have stronger bones and heavier muscle mass.

Kree blood has healing properties strong enough to bring a species with simple DNA (like humans) back from the dead but it's super duper painful and like 7/8 of the people that have received it have been given some kind of amnesia afterwards

Carol was one of those humans lol rip queen

Apparently the amnesia thing isn't even hard to do? In Agents of Shield a Kree had a tiny little hammer and he'd slap people with it and they'd loose their memories (I doubt that Carol was slapped with a tiny hammer but you never know this might help you)

You generally don't separate the name. Yon-Roggs name isn't Yon, it's Yon-Rogg. Obviously there's exceptions, but that's the general naming rule. It wouldn't be outright wrong to call him Yon, it would just be uncommon and slightly weird.

The Kree have beef with every species ever. They had multiple wars with the Asgardians and the Xandarians.

SALAAR (SPOILER ALERT)

continuing my tags from a previous post (sorry 😭 @deadloverscity) : like i said, i do think salaar is a good story so far. I like the world-building, I like the tribe coalition system that becomes a background for our story, and i like the fact that varadha and deva are in a toxic yaoi relationship.

im not gonna lie tho, i just haaaate the cinematography and lighting in prashant neel's movies. it's always a bad time there. It's like slapping a vignette over every frame of the movie, and it takes away any colour whatsoever. I understand that he wants to go for a dark vibe, but trust me, dark vibes can be achieved even without making the entire movie dark and invisible. I literally cannot see the actors doing any action! It's bad! It's not enjoyable. As a typical Telugu moviegoer (and assuming the movie was made for a predominantly telugu audience), I enjoy a somewhat vibrant colour scheme. So far, in all of our movies and even the mega movies (if you have watched RRR and Baahubali) there is a lot colour and imagery going on in the movies. I think in Prashant neel's cinemas, all of this is taken away. He has a set of colours that appear in his films consistently - which are black, grey and red. This colour scheme i feel, if repeatedly used, can be a bit boring and may take away the vibrance of the story. the stark contrasts (imo) do not emphasise the story, they overshadow it. still, take this w a grain of salt.

However, considering the fact that this is just his fourth film, ill cut him some slack. But man, if he is going to make movies for a telugu audience, i hope he lets go of the vignette filter.

next, the worldbuilding. i like it - here is a country that is completely separated from india, yet dictates certain aspects of it. i like that they chose an isolated place that evolves in parallel with the mainland, but retains the values of the tribes, making this place mythical and real at the same time. i was really intrigued by the tribe lore - about how the mannars ousted the shouryangas, and how rajamannar basically went against his own father's rule-book and is now facing dire consequences from bharava, whose tribe has the right to the throne right now. i also love love love loveeeeeee the fact that deva is the rightful heir to the throne - and also also the fact that whether he knows about this or not is left ambiguous. i love how this adds another layer to amma's hatred of khansaar and OH. MY. GOD. chef's kiss i love it.

as a personal taste, i don't like violence and epic fights tm overshadowing the narrative, which i feel the movie does. however, kannada film-making might be different. idk, i havent seen many kannada films other than kantara and kgf. the former is good i absolutely love it - the story is fantastic, the fight scenes are chumma, ufff i can praise it for days. the latter is pretty meh for me.

another thing i love about the movie is.. well, varadha and deva. dude, what is up with telugu guys unintentionally making queer movies these days? what is up with that yallll??? ohmygod. when i tell you that i smelled the romance im not lying. dude. dudeee. the whole friends to enemies to (maybe) friends/lovers arc theyve got going on? oooh baby i can feel the fanfics writing themselves. the whole soaked in blood-fighting-together scene? it was a miracle i wasnt jumping up and down on my seat. the dialogue in that scene 'i have friends more handsome than you' and then varadha getting kinda jealous and shit. lovely. the whole don't touch him thing that deva has got going on - baby boy just kiss him. and man. it's beautiful tragic and im writing a fanfic.

this is a specific life series / hermitcraft fanfic and not a user but i CONSTANTLY think about "dog at the door" by fluffy-papaya and iamsolarflare (betweenlands on tumblr). it's such a gorgeous fic, i dont reread fic often but ive read that one two or three times.

their red king character is FANTASTIC and informs a lot of how i write him whenever i do, and i love the worldbuilding concepts in here. i really love the cold from red winter and i think about a lot of little details in it all the time. the crown, ren attacking doc with the sword, the running jokes about the bead curtain... a favorite joke from that fic to me is the pamphlet etho gave doc about how to apologize. just really charming all around

the characters in that fic are just so strong, even tho theres not a lot of "outside conflict" and the fic is all just doc, ren/rk, and renbob talking to each other in the same, like, 2-3 closed rooms, it constantly feels engaging and exciting and i cant put it down

actually bonus points for the fact ren, rk, and renbob are all technically the same person but feel INCREDIBLY distinct it's really fucking good and interesting and i just love this fic so much

Hello! Just finished PS. I cannot praise you enough. Its easily the best thing ive read this year, and my resolution was to read multiple books a month. You surpass ALL OF THEM!

Saw ur authors note at the end abt an original queer vamp novel- is there anymore info yet? Im sure you've got ppl begging already but id truly love to beta when the time comes- or be first in line to preorder.

I feel like i read this at exactly the right time of my life.

The story was so painful yet rewarding bc i see so much of myself in Tyrus. Astarion and Tyrus truly feel like two different exstensions of my healing self. I wont go into it, but im a survivor to. Like tyrus, it happened when i was a young. Seeing his transformation throughout his decade of enslavement, his hatred towards himslef and the world, all bc of one man hit home. I kept telling myself that if it didnt have a happy ending id have to burn my phone or smthn lol. Seeing Astarion amd Tyrus not just defeat Cazador, but do it together, do it solely through their love of one another, broke me. The power of love, hope, and goodness. I havent cried over a fanfic since middle school. Im in my 20s now. I adored the final 2 chapters of the aftermath- im so grateful we got to meet his sister! And with Halsin, no less!

Im so thrilled you'll be adding oneshots and other stories to the universe. Tyrus is so real, so alive, id hate to see him contained in one story.

I love how Tyrus, ultimately, changeed. He didnt change into a monster like he feared, but what happened to him did changed him. Thats not a bad thing, tho. He's still Tyrus, simply a new version. And im still me, simply a new version.

I dont know if ill ever be able to reread, even skimming over the rougher parts was hard, but im so grateful i was able to see Tyrus and Astarion's journey. All of their triumphs felt like mine, all of their failures. Their never wavering love and trust in one another, that they understood it was Cazador that made them do those bad things. Ur right, pain and love must be intertwined, which is why this fic was so amazing. The highs would have never felt so spectaular without the lowest of lows.

Im rambling, i apologize. I do hope you read this, even if you dont respond. I hope my thanks and praise can give u something in return for what you've given me.

Speaking of, yes, since you ask I do have a little more to say now on my original story. I took a small writing break for a week or so but have now jumped back into the saddle for the next adventure! Lots of plotting, character creation, worldbuilding, and research happening right now.

Reuben, our first main POV, is almost fully fleshed out as a character and I’m so excited for you all to meet him (he’s an eloquence bard, for starters)!! The first book/part is almost fully outlined and I’ve written the first few pages. I’m really starting to get inspired by where the storyline is going.

Back to PS though—I’m so glad you felt seen with Tyrus’s character. He did inevitably change, but by the end he is (mostly) at peace with that and can still forge a good life and happy relationships. Meeting Cynda again was that last little piece of hope he needed to believe it 🥹

Haha the light does always seem brighter when you’re stuck in pitch darkness! On the other hand, it’s something Tyrus only thinks once, but I would argue love is not intertwined with pain more than anything else. Pain is just an inevitability. No matter what you do, you will experience discomfort, sorrow, loss, physical suffering (see Cazador, with absolutely zero love in his life). While love is not inevitable, it’s a choice. Love is a gift we choose to give and to receive in the midst of inevitable suffering and that is why it is so precious. Having that perspective has really helped me heal and have more hope for the future 🩵

i think what bothers me the most is the misconception that bhaal would give a shit what the urge does. he definitely doesnt. the canon bg1+2 is a human male goodguy (derogatory) and even he was still supposedly favoured by bhaal (in that achieving slayer form was from a feeling of 'divine hatred' and not an actual gift since bhaal at the time was dead and he was favoured not for this but in that he was the strongest of all his spawn (this is bg2 stuff btw i highly recommend u play both those games if u liked bg3 durge)) i actually miss how bg2 introduced that form its way better than in 3 but thats a big tangent ToT and i get why since the durge was quite literally made with it in mind anyway he didnt care about the prev spawn because their only purpose was to die anyway. but he doesnt care abt what durge does either. he would not care if he was fucking gortash. the one constant w him is that all he cares about is the end goals, the process doesnt matter at all. i cant be bothered putting screenshots in rn but both the durge's old diary and sarevok say "bhaal cares only for death. death in numbers, death in droves." and the ingame proof is in that even if u refuse to kill isobel u can still get the slayer form by agreeing to accept his gift in the temple. whether u killed isobel or not just determines if u get slayer form early. the other proof is orin, who doesnt follow him as he would ideally want either (too focused on making 'art' with death instead of actually killing) but still gets to be his chosen if u play as tav instead of durge (he also doesnt like the way shes loyal to sarevok more than him) hes pretty pragmatic

also the other thing... abt the butlers. sceleritas isnt there to ensure u are loyal, thats his own prerogative and pride as a butler. tho i think the specifics of him in general are left intentionally vague. the rest of bhaals butlers are always imps, and his own was also an imp (theyre made in his imps image after all), bt sceleritas is made in bhaals image. since he has a glued on nose and the colouring on his face looks like a skull. and the earrings are mirroring the slayers facial horns. thats a bit of a tangent tho umm anyway, my point is that durge got a very special butler for reasons we can only guess at. (tho i enjoy thinking that he really was meant more as a nanny/standin parent figure)

anyway that got sort of long. i love dad a lot. everyones durge can be different frm canon obviously... bt bhaal is an established char, nd a super interesting one (i have a lot of thoughts abt the similarities w mystra+shar especially cz of bg3 and the way sheart+gale narrative's play out bt again thats uhhhhh a HUGE tangent and im not even sure how to word my thoughts)

anyway tldr bhaal is a very hands off parent and doesnt give a shit what u do as long as u get the job done (and i love him very much 🥺)

oh also if u math the years out, durge is 20yrs old at max. and that takes the assumption that bhaal made u ASAP after he was resurrected. trivia. if u wanna read the thing wheree he gets rezzed, its the 'murder at baldurs gate' story which also comes with a rly intensive worldbuilding manual for the city which could help w fanfic or whatever u want. i enjoyed reading it (helping w dnd stuff T_T).

2. In the name of bullying Yun Taeheon, I need his reaction to Mun Doyun- aka the B rank assassin that was Shin Junseo’s guild leader. Cuz objectively, Yun Taeheon knows a lot can happen in a year and stuff, but also he’s an S-rank leader of a top guild that is willing to give Shin Junseo just about anything and he still cannot recruit him. And then there’s this B-rank nobody (to him) who specifically hired Shin Junseo - as a D rank weapon creator who could only make an average knife every 20 seconds - BC HE HAD A SKILL THAST DESTROYED THE BLADES HE USED. Literally the same reason!! But no, somehow Yun Taeheon is losing this race.

Even better if he somehow gets more backstory or through some time shenanigans he meets the other Mun Doyun, who is basically the reason Shin Junseo is even as good as he is. Like, the reason sjs learned all he could and stuff. Anyway, yth being objectively, obviously on a higher level than this dude and yet still absolutely seething at the very idea of how much he apparently is not measuring up. How do you think that should go?

also, looking at the firsts chapter and think the first chapter and I think Sjs could be the little kid at the very beginning? Meaning that he has grown up in he world of hunters and gates, giving some cool world building to how this is a whole generation of ppl growing up with gates and magic.

But man, I think it would be interesting if SJS is confronted with him again also in the context of like, SJS not recognizing MDY's brother despite his future memories, which sure has some implication. I told a friend that like my assumption is that Mun Dojin died in the other timeline and I desperately need him and SJS to talk because even if the memories SJS has never actually existed here, that still sort of makes him the only person MDJ can talk to.

As I plan on using this account primarily to advertise my stories, here's a "brief" rundown of my authorial profile. Please note that each and every one of my works is R-Rated, and with good reason. (I like myself some smut.)

@zoyalannister and I are co-authors on AO3, and under our names is the The Last Flowers series, in which we hold back no blows towards Cassandra Clare's truly idiotic plot and characterization in The Last Hours and attempt to write something decent. TLF is comprised of:

Hydrangea, a three-part, Grace-centered minilong which takes place between Chain of Gold and Chain of Iron;

Daisy, a six-part, Cordelia-centered minilong spanning from the Whispering Room scene in Chain of Gold to the end of Chain of Iron;

Chrysanthemum (upcoming), a nine-part fix-it of that trash fire that is Chain of Thorns;

Geranium, an AU stemming from a particular plot point in Hydrangea;

Petals, a collection of missing moments from the series.

can you ramble about the watsonian explanation on the differences between the playable characters' outfits and the NPCs'? or if you'd rather a different topic, you could discuss the limitations of visions, specifically if 1 vision can mimic another "element" (like how waterbenders in ATLA can do both water and ice, etc). I mean if visions can produce things like holograms, sentient constructs, heal people, etc, what are some other crazy ways to use them? are there hard limits?

eeeh i don't think its interesting to come up with watsonian explanation for smth that you know is 100% explained by irl. like its not a worldbuilding choice npcs look more boring, its costs limitations. like, you can come up with stuff, but at this point you're not engaging with lore, you're writing fanfic. like idk, traveler is clearly non-human lifeform that took human shape, but actually doesn't have human sense organs and perceives the world through different means. they have ability to somehow capture\summon spirits\souls ppl of teyvat and have them fight when called for. so the ppl that traveler is able to "summon" in this way are the ones that traveler also obv has much better opportunity to perceive, learn details, see in high res if you will, while everyone else is generic looking

as for the second, i'm not sure whats even the question here tho i do love to talk about visions. visions are pieces of primordial elemental powers that are adapted to a specific human and that human's perception of self and of the world is what determines how these elemental powers manifest. like, oz is fischl's tulpa, its her own imagination that gives him sentience and personality, i think i already talked about how summons who have personalities are tied to lonely ppl, projecting imaginary friends that they wished they had. like, every manifestation of vision's powers is kinda like 3-d printed construct from the human's mind. they can take any shape and practically any effect, depending on what vision user thinks they need\want, heal, shield, damage, but they cannot change the element.

atla comparison is not correct here bc "ice" is not a separate element in atla, there is no "ice nation". it's just water in low temperatures. its not true in genshin, cryo is a completely separate element and you cannot get cryo from just lowering temperature of hydro. you can die of cold on dragonspine, but hydro attacks won't freeze enemies here, you still need to add cryo. so in atla, waterbending is not "mimicking" anything, its just manipulating same element in different forms. much closer example is bloodbending, like neuvi is able to turn water into blood as hydro sovereign.

Here's what's up, I don't super care what people call it now — mains, affiliates, whatever( not exclusives, tho I don't live that life ) but what I'm interested in is people who like actually want to do plots and build a story. Things that might even — god forbid — require worldbuilding, npcs and multi-person threads/plots.

I'm dead ass serious about this. I'd rather NOT rp instead of do endless improv'd predominantly slice of life threads that have no real effect on anything. I quit this rp for 2 years and went into fanfic instead and that's been arguably way more rewarding because I actually got to Do Things even if I missed out on a lot of fun and community aspects. So please don't like this just because you don't wanna be excluded or something, I am looking for people to make a blood oath to create Narratives™ with. I'm not gonna become isolationist here but without a core plot to this blog I'll just Implode and Die.

A general level of higher priority ic and ooc.

Multiple threads

Concerted efforts to make things that work for both of us or to evenly spend time on plots that grow a single character.

A willingness to play "npc" type characters aka people we need for a plot but aren't worth a whole blog etc like a villain, any background ocs of yours or mine needed, etc.

My oldest friend (45 years and counting) is a successful indie author, and is currently attending the Content Entrepreneur Expo 2024 in Cleveland. She's an incredibly smart, savvy businesswoman, and I've been following what she's been learning at the Expo with interest.

One of the things she's relaying is how indie authors need to stop thinking about themselves as "authors" and rather think of themselves as "content creators". And she has a lot to say about marketing and newsletters and social media, etc. Obviously, one of the big things that all content creators have to do is put their finger on the pulse of what their potential consumers actually want, and then provide that. In that way, she says, indie authors need to get with the times and do the same.

She's been trying for years to get me to sell my writing. (I blog outside of Tumblr, most of which is non-fictional and autobiographical.) But the thing is, I'm not a content creator. I'm no good at self-promotion and marketing, and I have things to say, whether I'm writing fiction or non-fiction. Things that are important to me, as a person, and especially as an author. These things are meaningful, to many people. But they are not necessarily well-suited for content creation.

Last summer I was at a con and sat in on a reading by two (traditionally) published authors. One of them was in her 50's, an award winner in the sci-fi and fantasy genres, who has been writing for over 30 years. The other was in her 20's and had just gotten her first book published.

The younger author stated, during the Q&A, that part of her traditional publishing contract was that she was required to not only have an active social media presence on certain platforms (including keeping up her own website) but that she was to be available for certain tours/speaking dates. She said, with a laugh that sounded a little desperate, that she was having a hard time actually sitting down and writing her second book with all of the marketing requirements that her contract specified. She stated that her publisher doesn't market her writing very much at all since her contract specifies that she will be doing that.

The older author said that she'd been on a few book tours (including showing up to our con) but that self-marketing wasn't a part of her contract at all and never had been. In fact, while she does have a few of the usual social media accounts (Instagram and Bluesky) they are only updated once a month or so, and she usually blogs sporadically on Dreamwidth, which she's been on since LiveJournal imploded. (Dreamwidth is not exactly known as a social media trend.) Her website is pretty bare bones and is updated only when she publishes something new. She doesn't have a newsletter. Someone from the audience asked her about TikTok and she just waved her hand and laughed and said it wasn't for her. She said that her publisher had always used their own marketing team for her and that it worked for her.

I've reblogged before what others have said about tropes being more important to (younger) fanfic readers than the take on the original works - and I do agree with that. But I think it goes further. Popular fanfic today is content creation. It is written to appeal to a broad audience, and it is marketed via social media.

It's why so many of the canon characters are so completely out of character and why the worldbuilding is so often ignored. In content creation, those things aren't what matters. They don't matter to the writers, and even more importantly, they don't matter to the readers. What matters is the hype. Many of these readers have no idea how to use the search function on AO3, and furthermore, they don't care. They want their reading curated for them, and fanfic has the distinct advantage that it is free. If they can go on TikTok or Twitter/X or even here on Tumblr and be told by someone else to read such and such fic because it has these tropes, then that's what they are going to read. And since those fics were written with content creation in mind, it's going to cover whatever is currently popular at the time. Is the fic meaningful to them? Does it make them think? Does it take the canon characters on thoughtful journeys or improve upon the worldbuilding? Sure, maybe some of them do. But for the most part, they are easily consumed so that the readers can move on to the next fic on the curated list.

I remember some X-Files fanfic I read 30 years ago that still haunts me. Fiction that was beautifully written, that explored the worldbuilding and the characters in ways that the confines of TV broadcasting and the showrunners was never going to accomplish. In fact, I have a collection of fic I really loved that went from floppy to hard disk to CD to USB to the cloud. I still read them, all these years later. My very favorite fic, the one I read aloud on cassette tapes and then sent to my (then) girlfriend across the world, I had printed and bound into hardback format and gave it to her as a wedding present. I keep it on my bookshelf, nearly 9 years after her death. I put a handwritten quote from it into her coffin. That's the kind of impact that fanfic had on me.

I wanted, when I wrote my own fanfic, to create stories that would not only capture the canon characters and worldbuilding but would expand on them. I wanted them to be meaningful. I wanted to make my readers think, I wanted to make them feel, I hoped that my work would do for them what some of that X-Files fic did for me. My fic took a long time for me to write, and I did drafts and revision. I was really invested in it, and I wanted it to be good, not popular. It was the process that gave me a lot of personal satisfaction as an author.

Am I capable of writing content creation? I don't know. Not for my current fandoms, for sure. I care far too much to just write whatever would be popular for the sake of being popular. Could I do it for a fandom I didn't care about, or could I write something original, like other indie authors? My oldest friend keeps encouraging (sometimes it's less encouragement and more bullying) me to do it, but I genuinely don't know if I can. It's a different skill set to do content creation. And let me be clear here - I do, in fact, think content creation is a skill. Absolutely it is. Curating an online experience is hard work, I am in no way denying it. Really popular TikTokers and Instagrammers have talked about how it takes over their lives, how they have to constantly be on top of every trend, how they have to adapt to survive. And that's not even including how they are expected to interact with their fans as if their fans are actual friends of theirs instead of strangers on the internet. It is a skill and it is work.

But it's not a skill that I have. As an Autistic, it's probably not a skill I would be able to pick up, even if I wanted. My particular brain does not adapt well to constant change and constant input. In fact, my brain shuts right down when confronted with too much change and input. It is what it is.

I had a reader chastise me once for not doing a better job tagging my fanfic. Not because I wasn't tagging for trigger warnings - I do give trigger warnings. However, my tags are pretty minimal. The reader told me that if I did a better job tagging my fanfics with all the various tropes and if I wrote a summary that summarized the whole fic, I'd get more readers. And you know, they were absolutely right. No doubt about it. But see, I want readers to go into my fic and have the story unfold as they go. I want them, the first time they read it, to enjoy where the story is going - and for them to experience the surprise of a twist as well as the delight in guessing the twists ahead of time. I want, if readers read it again, for them to find more surprises. I want them to find all of the foreshadowing, all of the little easter eggs I've inserted here and there. I want them to come back a few years later, read it again, and due to their own life changes, get something new and different out of the story. It's what makes writing fanfic my particular joy. It's why I write. My stingy use of tags comes out of this desire on my part. It's not laziness or incompetency or even an older generational thing on my part. It's deliberate.

Do I think everyone needs to write for the same reasons I do? No. Not even close, not at all. I want writers to write for their own reasons. I have enjoyed fanfic for many different reasons, and not all of them are because the writing makes me think. (Sometimes I also just want to read some really delicious smut.)

But content creation fanfic isn't something I'm interested in at all. Not writing it, not reading it. It's just my thing, I have no expectation that everyone else has to think the way I do. However, as much as my old friend keeps trying to get me to write as content creation - she keeps enticing me with how much money I can make, which is certainly a selling point for her - I just don't think I have it in me.

It is a bummer on the financial front. I could use some extra income, like most of us. If I could throw together some urban fantasy Omegaverse, slap it up on Amazon and market the hell out of it on social media maybe I could afford to do a lot of things I'd like to do. (My oldest friend has a lifestyle I very much envy, including financial freedom and stability, plenty of travel, and she's even founded her own magazine, which is quickly becoming an industry standard.) But I love writing too much. I'm invested in writing, not content creation. In today's world that's a problem, not a positive. Passion has given way to marketing. Just a sign of the times, I guess.

What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it? Honestly my themes kind of grow from the story instead of the other way around, but overall I'd say it's something along the lines of discrimination and how dangerous hate can be. (<< sounds cool, has no idea how she's going to actually write this) But I will say there's a lot of like - mini themes in it too, because each character has their own issues and needs to learn different things to grow. Stuff about communication, about self-care, about finding yourself, about courage, etc etc. Very scattered, ik.

What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)? I'd say there's a lot of like?? Mythological creatures?? Y'know the classics like vampires and werewolves and selkies and what not. And then I just. Turn it all on its head. All the myths of them still exist in-universe - they're just wildly inaccurate because humans have been passing the stories down for decades. In actuality, Beasts are much more different. (Also and this is rather embarrassing to admit, but I've been stealing aHeM taking inspiration for characters from all of the media I've been watching. Which is. Mostly anime. Plus some worldbuilding details from fanfic aus I've thought up.)

What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person? Honestly? I have no idea. As of now, he's mostly trying to survive. I think the issue with Crys is that largely he's not someone who actually has a goal he wants to achieve?? The growth he experiences is not a thing he really decides he wants, but more something he needs, which the narrative basically has to drag him into. As for me... mostly I just want to write my stories and have them reach someone somewhere. It's probably the same for a lot of us who share those stories.

How many chapters is your story going to have? No idea. 40-something?? 50??? I always underestimate my end wordcount and my chapters vary wildly in length.

Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it? Original content!! I've been thinking about tweaking some stuff in Crow Wings (book 1) after I've finished first drafting Witch's Book (book 2), then I'll probably throw it up on ao3 and maybe simultaneously post it here.

When and why did you start writing? Sometime when I was a kid I think?? I'm pretty sure I was vaguely upset and bored and then I just picked up a pencil and started going at it. It was titled 'Survival' and it was basically a ripoff of I Am Number Four, littered with grammar and spelling mistakes, and all the cringefail, mary sue tropes small me could think up. I kid you not, the main character was named Emma, she had blond hair and blue eyes, and she was so good at fighting she was better at it then boys, even. Gasp!! Color me surprised!!!!! Anyway I still have it with me due to nostalgia reasons but it is hidden in my drawer under my bed where the light of day will never reach. Don't judge me, I was like nine.

We're all friends here and we're all still learning, so don't be afraid to share your work!! Something you feel might not be "good enough" is a story someone out there will love - and take it from a person with low self-confidence, your writing's often not as bad as you think! :D (also c'mon. it can't be worse than what nine-year-old me thought up.) As for writers... well I am following a lot of people but I'm just gonna tag a few of my mutuals. There's @lyssa-ink (my first ever writeblr mutual!!! she does fantasy with a lot of immortals, fae and court politics), and also @reneesbooks (go check out lacuna. birdie is adorable and jack is so funny to me). Also @macabremoons (vampires. lots of vampires. also super fun to talk to!!!), @sidhewrites (love graveyard lesbians. kaz is an absolute disaster and lucy is just so!!!), and @loopyhoopywrites (the Ex-Quest is peak comedy. every excerpt I read leaves me wheezing). I don't talk as much with @space-writes, @e-klair, @sapphos-scientist or @squarebracket-trick, but they're all lovely, talented writers and I really appreciate that they let me yell about Beast at them!!! There's also @scribbling-stardust (one of my most recent moots. her oc dahlia and my oc dahlia are literally twins. it's hilarious). Lastly, closing off with @allianaavelinjackson, who isn't very active on tumblr but is nonetheless always available to brainstorm (read: listen to me go insane) over Beast. Love ya <3

Like, yeah, it is one of those 'kinda petty gripe' moments I was talking about! People are completely valid to spend their time and effort on what makes them (and often their mutuals and fans) happy! Yet at the same time, I am myself a huge fucking NERD about timeline, concepts, worldbuilding, messages, philosophy, specifics of factions and covenants, systems of 'magic' and science within the lore and all that, and if presented with a choice between the hottest fanfic for my OTP or an oddly detailed fictional research paper on something complex that went within the lore, I'd not even hesitate to pick the latter xd

There ARE many things to think about in BB, yes! My personal favorite to dissect were how Kin works and headanons about Great Ones (ALL of them). I have not found a cool way to put my BB worldbuilding dissections into a fic, tho... :') Me and @val-of-the-north also dream of writing a large prequel of Pthumerians history with what predated dungeons and some known characters. But we are more visual artists than writers. Sigh!

I could offer an advice for the situation when you have a gripe with something that is most popular in a fandom, and wish people did more interesting stuff:

1) Have a tiny group of people who are bitter about the same thing (can also be conveniently put in a Discord chat)! It is extremely therapeutic to have a few friends with whom you can be haters together, so you vent it all out and go to the 'public' fandom all happy and cheerful, not carrying this negativity to the open internet where people that love [a thing] can see it. I mean- I do have a group like this! Our most frequient petty haters sessions are pouting at the fact that this or that character only gets remembered as part of a ship and not as their own person xd Feeling heard in a small group where your words can't hurt anyone, nor anyone will guilt you for being "entitled" is just. good.

2) Create the stuff you would like to see more of (drawings, fanfics, essays, theories, headcanons, memes prompting an idea in a subtle way even), or encourage people to think more about this stuff (prompting discussions, buying art/fic commissions, doing trades (art for fic, for example), catching a person that accepts requests and spending yours on what you'd like to see more of, sending people asks that could trigger to develop something about lore etc). Really mind the latter, though! Like... trust me dude, even if you can't draw or write, nor have enough money for commissions, you can still cause pretty tangible influence on creativity! If you just say right things at the right time to the right people. Heck- I more or less got some skill at inspiring people creatively <:3 Like... I prompt a person to think of this or that theme or character, and before I know it they already developed something because of that discussion? (not tryna boast xd) Or another good example is @heraldofcrow who mastered the skill of prompting discussions about Bloody Crow sooooo well that people keep becoming his fans because of her, and some are even drawing him thanks to her! I constantly see people creating more content of the boy thanks to her, and all she did was simply talking to them! xD A gripe at a character, theme, concept etc not being popular enough can cause GREAT things to happen and you can become people's MUSE! 😎

Hmmmm I think that's it! Basically? You probably have more charisma to inspire writers (including to fiddle with lore) than you are aware of. They need readers, AND they need ideas. You will figure this out! ...or even write a killer fanfic yourself.
