What's the david he/theyster video?
we are the champions at 3x speed is my favourite punchline
video description: a clip of red dwarf. kryten, rimmer and cat are sat in the cockpit, and kryten says 'oh, it looks like a little man in a spacesuit!'. rimmer responds 'that's not a man, that's lister.' the clip cuts to an image of lister with nonbinary flags added around them, a caption reading 'nonbinary legend, david he/theyster', and a sped up version of 'we are the champions' by Queen plays in the background. end VD

some of the tags on my edit are making me think:
do you think random sinners who watched everything in stayed gone and never met alastor in person have like fan interpretations of how he looks like based on this one shitty drawing and his voice.
some draw him with a full body of fur. some draw him with a nose, some draw him without a nose. they come up with their own colour palettes too and they all look very different. there are some popular, agreed on interpretations of him too that are commonly drawn
Tumblr media
some have interpreted the monocle to be a goofy mismatched eye so there are a lot of people who draw him like that too with one big eye and one small eye
vox has seen all of them and lost his mind about them because they're so WRONG AND INACCURATE (okay maybe he laughed at some of them, but how the hell is he going to enjoy sexy alastor art if they all draw him wrongly? and val doesn't care enough to draw him often) and he wonders if he should have just used the actual picture he had of him for his news broadcast instead so he wouldn't have to be subjected to these horrendously inaccurate interpretations of him. this is why he sent a proper reference when he commissioned luci--

# i’m smitten with the thought of you
itoshi rin x gn!reader. sae and rin don’t have an estranged relationship. childhood friends to (eventual) lovers. crack don’t take this too srsly pls
Tumblr media
“rin, say ahh!” you hold out a spoonful of cake in front of his face.
“shut the fuck up.” rin pouts, turning his head away from you.
you snicker, but your hand doesn’t falter. “come on! you know you want it~” you tease, dragging the end of the sentence as if you were talking to a small child.
he keeps his mouth shut, and you gush internally at the fact that he’s blatantly sulking. rin will never beat the allegations for being the cutest boy ever, even if he’s not the same as the sweet little boy you knew years ago.
desperately trying to hold back a laugh, you purse your lips and mimic rin’s little pout. “you used to listen to me much more obediently when you were younger.”
“you-“ you shoved the spoon into his mouth as soon as you get the chance. rin reluctantly complies but is quick to complain after. “that’s foul!”
you raise an eyebrow. “and that’s what the naughty boys get. tsk tsk.”
it’s obvious you don’t understand how wrongly your words could be interpreted by the way your expression stays unwavering. perhaps it was your dense disposition, or the fact that you’ve known rin since he was a kid in preschool.
rin thinks he’s being — and has been — painfully obvious about his feelings, yet you still fail to notice the faint blush creeping onto his face. even sae found out about it, and rin had to fight for his life to defend himself.
“rin. that’s practically incest-“
“oh my god nii-chan, you know that’s not true!”
sae can think you’re like a sibling to him, but rin doesn’t. in fact, he has never. he can’t deny that he’s had a crush on you the moment you were introduced to him as sae’s friend, and though it might seem like it was just puppy love, his current actions can prove that it isn’t.
“and you used to be so well-behaved back then.” you sigh dramatically. “did you know you would stick to me all the time, and get super jealous whenever i did anything with sae?”
the younger boy scoffs, standing up to go get a drink of water to make sure he doesn’t go insane from your ruthless teasing.
“hey! don’t run away!” you smile, eyes twinkling in amusement, as you get up to follow him. “it was really cute, i swear!”
choosing not the humour you, rin continues on with his task (that he could not care less about), humming in response.
you stand next to him and watch, occasionally feeling the need to poke him. starting from his arm, you string a line of pokes all the way up to his face, where you change your stance to pinch his cheek, a frequent action of endearment you used to do when you were younger.
needless to say, you were not expecting rin to grab your hand so promptly. and you most definitely were not expecting him to then lean towards you, not stopping until his face was merely an inch away.
“woah-“ you exhale as you stumble back slightly. he’s close enough for you to study all the details of his face, from the strands of his hair to the sharp curve of his jaw. he towers over you, his broad shoulders wide enough to engulf you completely into his presence. it’s funny, this scene is the complete opposite of what it was like as children, your roles entirely switched.
your breath hitches as his gaze locks onto yours, showing you all his pent-up feelings over the years for the first time. he’s determined, you can tell at least that much, but what surprises you the most is how dilated his pupils are; his eyes are begging to let you know his story, one of his long, endless pining for you, and you only.
it goes without saying you weren’t ignorant enough to overlook the reality that rin grew up, that he’s matured now. would it be cowardly for you to admit that you have indeed taken notice of his feelings at times, but refused to act on them in fear of losing him? what if you were wrong? what if rin didn’t like you that way? there was too much on the line, and you didn’t want to risk every memory you’ve made with him and sae for the past 12 years.
like an unspoken condition between you two, rin also knows the risks. he knows, but he’s so smitten it’s driving him insane. you’re a risk that he’s willing to take, and he’s had his mind made up since the beginning.
“yeah?” he whispers. “how about now?”
dumbstruck, you nod absentmindedly in response. almost like you were under a spell, and rin was the mastermind enchanting you.
rin smirks at the sight of your face heating up and flushing to a light red. “you still think i’m cute, y/n?”
“the cutest ever.” you’re quick to recover, flashing a small smile of your own. shameless, but you refuse to concede now. “care to prove me wrong, itoshi?”
“what the fuck are you two doing in the kitchen, oh my god.” sae deadpans. “rin, please pick and choose a better time to confess your feelings, thanks.”
you jump. rin groans.
“you need to pick and choose a better time to interrupt, THANK YOU.” rin scowls, letting go of your hand. the sudden withdrawal of his warmth disappoints you, but you smile nonetheless hearing their brotherly antics.
sae’s impassive, walking in between the two of you to refill his own water. “you two forgot all about me, i was getting worried that rin might’ve killed y/n or something.”
“as if!” rin rolls his eyes. “get out of here, at least let me finish.”
shooting him a quick side-eye, sae smirks at his little brother. “okay loverboy, just make sure to not make a mess in the kitchen.” and he swiftly makes an exit before any further retaliation.
“i hate him.”
“you know you don’t.”
rin sighs, closing his eyes for a few seconds.“i guess the cat’s out of the bag now.”
you laugh, and grab his hand to play with his fingers, a not very subtle attempt to hide your beet red face. “think it was obvious enough, rinnie.”
his heart throbs at your use of his childhood nickname. “took you long enough.”
“so, will you continue to show me how cute you are?” you ponder as you look up at rin.
“stop treating me like a child, jeez.” and that pout is back onto his face once again. “i’ll show you anything you want, but i’ll make sure you won’t see me as just a cute little boy anymore.”

It’s so wild how many fic writers in this fandom still tag in their fics (which are wrongly tagged as Anidala) that Clovis is Padmé’s “ex lover” in ones which include his character.
Canonically this false interpretation has long been debunked in Queen’s Shadow where it’s revealed that Padmé never associated herself to Clovis in anyway. He wasn’t even a friend of hers for most of it, and even then he made things worse by forcing a kiss on her. She didn’t want anything to do with him for more than half the book, and made her hate him by it’s end, lol.
Clovis was always the one chasing after her while she made her feelings and stance clear that she’s not interested in him. The book often hints at her aggravation and irritation of him many times. And at the end, after she’s reluctantly agreed to work with him, and they’ve passed a bill together, he completely ruins their new found friendship by being his usual “creepy” self to which Padmé (rightfully) angrily tells him off. Then going forward she broke off all contact with him. No romantic feelings or relationship in sight.
Even way before the Queen’s Trilogy came out, the VA to Padmé in TCW (Catherine Taber) confirms in a podcast once (Coffee with Kenobi #25) that Padmé never once harboured any romantic feelings for Clovis. Even confirms that they only had a relationship where they were friends and nothing more.

Just my 2c here. But I think the interpretations "Dutch was a cult leader who manipulated desperate people into doing his bidding, creating a family of worshipers he could mold into his image" and "the self-caused downfall and implosion of Dutch's family destroyed his mind and soul" not only can coexist, but that they intensify & clarify each other. Neither view exonerates Dutch, but taken together, they avoid watering down his emotional trajectory into DUTCH WAS ONCE GOOD vs DUTCH WAS ALWAYS EVIL poles.
I think we often make the mistake of correlating characters who love deeply with characters who are innately good. But love (and the perception of love) is a complicated thing; it doesn't have to be genuine, healthy, true or kind for us to deeply feel its pull.
An abusive mother can still feel love for her children... or truly believe that she does. And an abusive mother who feels love for her children (or an emotion she believes to be love) can still feel terribly hurt when her children leave her, even if she deserves to be left.
[spoilers under the cut]
Did Dutch raise Arthur & John to blindly follow his ideals and commands? Yes. Did Dutch scorn his sons unfairly, betray them, and play victim when circumstances caused them to begin stepping out of his influence? Yes. No question.
Was Dutch, a man infamous for his bombastic style of speech and baffle-with-bullshit charisma, so crushed by the death of his eldest son that he retreated into a shell of himself and stopped speaking for seven years? Also yes.
Did Dutch break his long silence to cast down the pseudo-son, snake-in-the-grass manipulator who accelerated his old family's downfall... and was he compelled to do so only when faced with the possibility of watching the man who was once his youngest son die? He sure did.
Many a father has truly loved the image of a son he held in his head, often because he believes that son is a reflection of the best or most beloved parts of himself. And many a father has wrongly, selfishly felt bitterly betrayed when that son begins to look & think like someone else.
Losing his outcast family broke Dutch. Maybe we think his love for his family was once real, but gradually devolved into a perverted, selfish love. Maybe we think it always was that way. Either way, love does not have to be real (or justified) for it to leave you with a broken heart.

Not a suicide note.
I try my best to be nice and professional and I restrain my art and my thoughts and my image to the most strictly nice I can be without faking it. (Faking would be something I do not want for myself after all(
I do not want to hurt anybody, and I don't want anybody to be unhappy because of my actions, there would be no point in that. I want to lay in my lane, safely away from others, and explode, I want to burn bridges, I want to break apart and not feel tied by 'what if'. I have no friends who would defend me. I am always terrified of what will happen if I relax. If I say or do anything that can (and will) be interpreted wrongly, nobody is going to say 'Wait, this is out of character'. They will just assume anything good about me was wrong. So all I can do is choose not to say things that can possibly be considered unpopular. Unpopular can be deconstructed into toxic. Toxic can be deconstructed into cancellable. Cancellable means I will be alone.
There's people on the internet that have been considered 'ok to bully', who the fuck am I to believe when I look at them, i'm not looking at myself? And I'm dying. I want to die. I want to stop worrying. I want to stop being a good person when nobody needs that good person. I am building up good rep because I hope it will pay off eventually , but I'm starting to rip at the seams. If I die I won't have to hope somebody acknowledges me.
EDIT: Actually writing this down helped me relax a little. It's not that I don't feel it (I do know it's going to come with a vengeance and this is just the aftermath of a lot of stress) but I wanted to write this in addition.
It might also help alleviate the pressure some people might feel after reading it and feeling they have to help but don't know how.
Man, I just know this is going to break my life in two, umh? But perhaps I am not done for the life I was aiming for...

by the way, my favorite reading of satosugu's relationship under a romantic lens is that they never got to tell each other how they felt. not because they were insecure, or noticed too late, but because the right opportunity never came in the jjk novel, there's that bit about how when they were young, as long as they were together, nothing felt uncertain, so think about it: they were so sure of the future, so sure that everything would work out, that they felt no rush on changing anything. they knew they loved each other and maybe they even knew it was mutual. but they spent their free time and most of their work/school time together, they bought souvenirs and phoned each other when they were apart, they sparred, they fooled around, and for the moment that was enough. they had the whole future ahead of them. and then things started to come to an end. gojo didnt even noticed the distance until it was too late and geto obviously saw no point in doing anything about his feelings at that moment. even if they tried to give it a shot, tried to find a gap for a serious conversation, they were probably unable to. they spent all of their time on different missions and their free time usually didnt match. gojo was putting all of his focus on evolving his technique, and geto was simply exhausted by the flood of curses. so it just never happened. i know its a kind of heartbreaking concept, but ironically its the interpretation that comforts me the most. it leaves the feelings untouched in the past, and even tho they think (wrongly) the other doesnt feel the same anymore, ultimately they at least know that they were able to love and be loved the best that they could.

and you can tell everybody (unplugged)
Hi friends! Do not proceed if you don't want spoilers for my fic, and you can tell everybody! Album notes and extras are below the cut :)
ACD's early career is releasing covers and original songs with June on YouTube and later TikTok. Career takes off his first year of university and the rest of the band joins, agreeing to play for a few years to see what happens.
[unnamed] (2020) [very little info on this besides being very pointedly Mexican-American, but the genre is rock influenced by Mexican music, like Cafe Tacvba? Molotov? but more modern]

1 new message - mellow r&b. Have suspected something is wrong, ignored it, and now the impact is hitting full force. Wrongly interpreted as Alex leaving a voicemail for an ex but it is a song written for his past self about missing his ADHD and bisexuality. Sound: "3AM" by Haim
reckless abandon - daddy issues song cowritten with Liam. Bilingual. Sound & lyrically: "Voice Inside My Head" by The Chicks

spine/die climbing - vulnerable pillow talk. Sound: "Plane Trees" by Omar Apollo, Mustafa
miel - sacrilege bj song. Catches on with queer Latine audience and is memed similarly to Call me by your name by Lil Nas X. Grows the band's audience. Sound: "Te Mata" by Kali Uchis.
on purpose - I choose to be all the things that I am and am not picking a side. End album on a positive note. Sound:"Done With You" by Omar Apollo

How To Write And Research Mental Illnesses
Tumblr media
Mental illnesses are a large aspect of literature often incorporated into various different genres. However, even with their prevalence, many authors are often unaware of how to write about mental illnesses accurately. If you’re an author writing a character with a mental illness, here are some tips on how to write with mental illnesses.
Don’t ‘Self Diagnose’ Your Characters
When writing about mental illnesses it’s important to consider whether or not your character would realistically have this mental illness given their situation and story. Many authors often ‘self diagnose’ their characters without actually taking the time to research these illnesses and figure out whether their character would develop this illness if they were a real person.
I say ‘self diagnose’ because as authors we generally do diagnose our characters based on our own interpretations and plans for them and their story, without looking to real people with these illnesses.
Just because your character is going through an unproductive slump doesn’t mean they they are depressed. Just because your character is nervous and experiencing stage fright doesn’t mean they have anxiety.
Take the time to look into these mental illnesses and genuinely consider whether or not your character has a mental illness, or if you’re just self diagnosing and wrongly labelling them.
Do Your Research
Whenever I blog about such sensitive topics, I always find myself ultimately mentioning this one point. This is because even with so many resources available to us both online and offline, writers still choose to be blissfully unaware of sensitive topics mentioned in their WIPs or stories.
I sincerely cannot stress how important it is for a writer to do their due diligence and research the topics they write for, especially if it is something as sensitive as mental illnesses.
Once you have established that your character would realistically develop or undergo a mental illness given the situation they are in, it is now time to research what exactly they would go through.
A simple google search can tell you everything you need to know about your character’s mental illness. Or, you could reach out to people you know who suffer from the same illness and ask them questions about it.
Researching your character’s mental illness helps ensure you don’t accidentally misrepresent that illness or create symptoms that are inaccurate and insulting to people who do suffer from that mental illness. It will also provide you with a sense of ease as an author, and allow you to work on your WIP without having to worry about accidentally offending an entire community.
Remember The Three Ss
One of the biggest challenges writers face with writing with mental illnesses is unrealistic representation. Unsure where to start with your research? Here is a simple guide for you to keep in mind.
When writing about mental illnesses, you need to recall the three Ss:
Symptoms
Side effects
Stages
Symptoms
Every illness or disease has its own symptoms, the same applies to mental illnesses. When writing about a character with mental illnesses, you need to take the time to research the symptoms of this illness and how these symptoms can impact your character on a day-to-day and general level.
For example, a character with PTSD would face trouble sleeping and concentrating, would be irritable, angry and face overwhelming guilt or shame. These symptoms can all make it hard for a person to excel at school or the workplace and can lead to delayed deadlines, unfinished work, and a lot of stress and anxious thinking.
A character with PTSD would likely not be able to handle being at the top of their class, unless they completely engross themselves in their studies to the point where they can’t think of anything except that. However, if that were the case then they would find it very hard to handle ‘normal’ situations and wouldn’t be getting a lot of sleep.
Side Effects
A side effect is a temporary and commonly unwanted effect of a drug or medical condition. Unlike a symptom, a side effect can be harmful or beneficial and most go away on their own over time.
They wouldn’t be considered as ‘serious’ as a symptom, however, they can still significantly impact your character, their story, and their dynamics with the characters they interact with.
Following the above example, a character with PTSD would generally suffer from an inability to develop or maintain positive, healthy interpersonal relationships and an inability to trust others. They also often face side effects such as social isolation, chronic feelings of fear, etc.
These are all side effects that would make it hard for a character with PTSD to maintain emotional relationships. You can use this to portray their sudden lack of connection with friends and family, and how they find themselves only associating with people who have either been through or understand their situation.
Stages
A person with cancer, or other such physical illnesses, doesn’t suddenly hit a chronic level overnight. The same logic applies to mental illnesses. Mental illnesses don’t just develop overnight. Your character won’t suddenly wake up one day in chapter ten and have a full-blown panic attack because they developed a panic disorder.
Yes, people can face symptoms or side effects pertaining to a mental illness after facing a traumatic event. However, when writing about such events, it’s very important to do your research and consider whether or not a person would realistically undergo such serious symptoms in such a small timeframe given the circumstances.
Outside of incidents that are a direct result of a traumatic event, it’s important to consider the stages your character would experience as a result of their mental illness.
For example, a person with PTSD goes through five stages, the first being the impact or emergency stage, during which they struggle to process or deal with the situation they have gone through. Then comes the denial or numbing stage.
Following the above example, a numbing stage would be akin to when a character pretends the traumatic event never occurred and throws themselves into their work or school. Then comes a rescue stage, which would be when other characters begin to intervene or when the character comes to terms with the events and starts to better themselves.
Knowing the stages of your character’s mental illness allows you to accurately plan out what happens in your story and create a realistic portrayal of their suffrage. It also helps flesh out your story for your readers and allows you to seamlessly incorporate your character’s illness into the story.
Don’t Define Them By Their Mental Illness
Now that you have a general idea of how to write and research mental illnesses, I would like to end this blog post with a small reminder. People with mental illnesses are human. They have personalities, hobbies, likes, dislikes, and other such traits that often have nothing to do with their mental illness.
When writing with a mental illness, it’s important to take this into account and ensure you don’t constantly define your character by their mental illness, or even worse, reduce them to their mental illness.
I hope this blog on how to write and research mental illnesses will help you in your writing journey. Be sure to comment any tips of your own to help your fellow authors prosper, and follow my blog for new blog updates every Monday and Thursday.

hey, I was reading your posts on the use of 'reading comprehension' and found them really enlightening. I'm wondering, are there similar undercurrents to how people use lack of reading comprehension to describe the tendency for people to read and interpret in bad faith online, or are they different things grouped together under the same label?
hm yeah i would say there are some similar undercurrents happening. i think glibly mocking [a lack of] reading comprehension in response to a bad-faith/hostile/animous/etc engagement (like eg. the trend of replying with 'reading comprehension questions' that aim to glibly point out logical flaws in the initial response and present it as obviously ridiculous and overblown) is falling back on that same discursive construction -- that a lack of 'reading comprehension' is embarrassing, that reading something poorly or wrongly is something you should be sure never to do in public, and whoever can score the most Reading Comprehension Points in the argument wins the discourse.
i also just find it, like, unfunny and boring. even in genuinely bad-faith interpretations of a post, it has an air of smugness to it that i find really off-putting -- it's a very, like, you sir have won the internet for today-type tone. and there are multiple cases where i've seen this Ha Ha No Reading Comprehension thing deployed to suggest that someone reading between the lines of a claim made in a post to point out eg. particular biases, particular suggestions of bigotry, that the post doesn't explicitly name but are certainly discursively present is obviously being dense or hysterical; it's an easy win in a discourse where to name something as eg. subtly racist, transphobic, misogynistic, etc., is already presumed to be hysterical overreaction by people who know better than to outright name it as such but are still predisposed to view it in that light when given the opportunity to do so covertly.
(eg: op says X; a responder points out that X implies Y and is emerging from a discourse of Z; op laughs at them by claiming that they only said X and if you're seeing Y or Z then you clearly have no reading comprehension because X without Y or Z is obvious to op's often already biased audience and the conversation is shut down.)
it's got a real like, deployment of Facts And Logic feel to it; i don't think it does a good job in actually engaging with the responder and understanding where their interpretation is coming from, which can ofc be chalked up to the fact that that's literally not what it's supposed to do -- it's supposed to get a fun dunk in and make the initial responder look silly. i more than understand frustration at people reading your posts in bad faith and i can't fairly be mad at people for lashing out about it -- i've done it before! -- but, like. i think we should just try and steer clear of discursive constructions which reify the stigmatisation of poor reading comprehension (or mediation of tone on the internet, which is also at play here).

The nail that sticks out gets hammered down
Tumblr media
Guns, nails, katanas: I think it's interesting to read this title not just in terms of the chapter's construction, but as three notions serving the same idea, which is what we're going to develop.
Tumblr media
The chapter opens with the students, followers of the Church of Chainsaw Man, who don't really know what to do with their weapons. They weren't even aware that they had so many, which marks a continuity with the last chapter, when Nobana wasn't even aware that there were weapons.
Their reaction becomes the opposite when their superior gives them a reason to interpret the weapons differently - they're no longer guns in the hands of children, but a continuation of Chainsaw Man's message and power.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think that's an easy interpretation to have, but it's one worth establishing for the sequel. The guns are only a third part of the reasoning, after all.
When the fiend arrives on the scene, it's also interesting the moment and the way they's cut off. Strangely enough, the fire doesn't start until they begins to suggest that children shouldn't be holding weapons, as if someone wanted to prevent them from provoking an awakening of conscience. All symbolic, of course.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I insist on the fact that the response of the weapons is instantaneous because in French the line is well cut (I read both versions because sometimes it helps me to have a re-reading on certain lines and I perceive better the indicators notably on the tone… And yes, you missed the fiend saying Ouh Là Ouh Là Là… )
The fiend seems to have a strong desire to protect children. Which gives us an idea of the demon they might embody. A common trait that could be given to fiends is that they are beings (and I say this with all the love I bear them) intellectually limited or rather who have a way of reasoning that is more animal and demonic (logical, they are demons they embody) than human.
Whether it's Power, who only reasoned through the prism of domination, or Beam, who considered himself Chainsaw Man's pupil and follower, the possessed reason strictly through hierarchy, or rather through a kind of food chain, which is typically bestial.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seeing what looks like a fiend, or even a devil, reasoning in terms of child protection induces the idea that they must have something to do with these children to reason in such an abstract way as child protection.
Especially as it's something they embodies rather than understands themself, since they remains demonic, bashing in the skull of a child they themself wanted to protect, but had spoken to wrongly, as if this "lesson" were also part of his upbringing.
Tumblr media
That's why I interpret this fiend as harboring the devil of studies. Which is logical? It's one of the main fears of young people in particular, whether it's the choice of direction, exams, or even because it's related to the future, studies are a subject of anxiety.
Particularly in a Japanese system in which the costs of studying are considerable, with university rankings that can be quite anxiety-provoking for high-school students.
That's why this fiend is so revolted by the sight of children with weapons, and nails them to walls rather than brutally killing them all.
Tumblr media
Moods and compassion are not necessarily inherent concepts in the fiends, even if they are capable of them, as we saw with Power.
But then again, if Power changed her behavior, it was only with regard to Denji and Aki, because they were part of her pack and her entourage, just like Meowy.
Sacrificing herself for Denji, even if she did in the end, was by no means obvious, hence the fact that there were several pages before her second death where she considered two options: her survival by helping Makima and her certain death to protect her brother.
Tumblr media
That's why the fiend's words are so strange and put me on the trail of the study demon.
Skull-hammering, or being overloaded with information and knowledge to be accumulated, is symbolized by this protruding brain.
In the same way, the fact that the demon possessed has no eyes symbolizes the school system, whose aim is to develop students without actually seeing them.
Tumblr media
I was thinking about the hammer, but the title indicates that it's the nails we should be thinking about.
Hence the title of this analysis, which takes up a famous saying :
The nail that sticks out gets hammered down
Obviously, this saying alone cannot reflect the complexity of Japanese society, which is sometimes even used as a caricature by the Western media.
Nevertheless, without falling into caricature, it symbolizes a simple idea: Japanese society, unlike Western society, puts the collective before the individual.
This doesn't mean that the individual is completely erased, but that he is encouraged to consider his behavior from a more global angle, one that transcends himself.
It's simply a saying that can be understood as advice: if you step out of line, you can expect to encounter more difficulties.
This is as true for a Japanese society as it is for a Western one. I'm not establishing any hierarchy of values.
Hence the nails, which freeze individuals where they belong.
Tumblr media
That's why this possessed person has an aversion to seeing students with guns: it's not just for protection, it's also for compartmentalization. Society doesn't give students the role of assailants; their role is to have a criterion in their hands.
We continue with this superior, who also happens to be possessed by the demon of justice. His posture is not only interesting in that it's a completely instrumentalized justice in the sense that it puts children in danger for a better purpose, but it's above all the thesis of necessary evil, i.e. fighting evil with evil.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If human morality were to be summed up, it would be through this maxim: preventing wars with wars, protecting like Chainsaw Man while endangering students - that's the whole human contradiction.
So, of course, the fiend find him vain when he argues that he is the best incarnation of justice.
It's typical of man to imagine himself superior to other species.
Tumblr media
We end on Katana, who arrives with a cutaway (which I loved) to declare that there's no justice with Chainsaw Man.
So, in one line, we put back in place all the originality of this character, and I find it incredible.
Tumblr media
This line is both true and ironic!
True, because Chainsaw Man humiliated him by killing his grandfather, winning against him and beating his private parts with Aki to avenge Himeno.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But above all, Katana Man has been brought up among the Yakuza, who he believes are governed by the same principles as his grandfather, to the point where he firmly clings to this position.
Katana Man hasn't evolved at all on this issue .
Tumblr media
Ironic, given that Katana Man's grandfather was Denji's debt collector, the man who ended up ordering the overindebtedness and dismemberment of a child.
Indeed, Denji has no idea what justice is, for his life is profoundly unjust, whether it's being indebted for his father's misdeeds or dying prematurely.
Tumblr media
Above all, he doesn't take justice into his own hands; Denji didn't take revenge on Aki and Power with Makima, he saved her, just as he pursues his own personal goals of killing demons; they don't slaughter demons to bring justice to all those unjust deaths, he fights because they turn him on, he's an instrument, not a vigilante.
Tumblr media
What the chapter speaks to in these three themes is the whole paradox of protection, whether it's seeking justice through the church by sending children as gunpowder.
Whether it's trying to protect these children by enclosing them in a school system.
Whether it's protecting ideals that are unfounded.
Once again we follow the analysis of the last time, public hunters choose weapons or possessions that limit the damage to the teenagers who constitute the nation's precious asset. The church uses children as a kind of barrier, not because they think they're good soldiers, but because they're moral barriers. So they send a possessed man convinced that he's protecting the children.
Or a weapon who thinks he still has a man's heart.
It's not just a clash between the two camps; it's also a battle for public approval.
Tumblr media
Katana Man and Chainsaw Man are two sides of the same coin, the same story. While one has known a loving grandfather whom he loves so much that he closes himself off in denial (to the point of always refuting Denji's version that he murdered his grandfather as a zombie, even though the only legacy he left him was a zombie weapon), the other has known the monster and has therefore not internalized concepts such as love, compassion or justice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Katana Man is a weapon who has been instrumentalized by the Yakuza, and is still deluding himself to find meaning in his existence, while Denji is one of the few weapons living strictly for himself at the moment.
He's the only one who truly follows his heart !

lovely Summer props by @breezypunk. 🏝️
First:
Brudi, I built a whole jungle beach and you almost see nothing of it when I took the pics lol. Anyhow I have my own private big jungle beach now bc I managed after a few fails to save it as a preset! Idk if I can edit it afterwards but I'll find out. It's funny bc while creating/building it didn't seem so big/huge/wide but when taking photos it's like the water is 150m away from their place they had set up the chairs lol. I just pretend it was falling tide, alright.
Here's a behind the scenes of it:
Tumblr media
somehow I imagine V to do this all day in his net world. Like he has a program similar like Minecraft but more realistic where he constantly builds stuff like that but with a vaporwave-y touch ofc.
Now back to the pics: Yes, even my boys are sometimes just boys!
Also still. Yes! Ryder goes out into the sun. Yes, he's got more of a tan than Vijay and yes, Ryder likes this colorful pride floatie. And yes, Ryder has a good time. This is me trying to show more that Ry is not always the angry cool raver dude™ in all black. I still think he's interpreted a bit wrongly by most, like I know everyone sees a different Ryder than I do. With the right people aka closest friends around he is having a good time as he trained to ignore Beast away and as long as the mood is good, Ry feels good (ofc he keeps also playing fine a lot).
Also Vijay on the orca floatie is GOALS, okay!
PS.: It was not V who built that perfect sand castle — it was Ryder who refined it bc V's base was more like some piles of sand (he's more keen to built stuff like that in the net rather than in real life).
And the water is not blue because well … Night City is a fucking hell of a polluted city …

Hey Nalyra,
I was just wondering… do you interpret this as I took it - to mean “We’re not particularly interested in spending a lot of time in Lestat’s backstory/origin story, beyond what he’ll tell to the world while becoming a rockstar…”
Because The Vampire Lestat literally only has bookend chapters about becoming a rockstar, which is really part of Queen of the Damned.
I’m as excited about rockstar Lestat as anyone, and am happy with the idea of a lot of focus on it, but I am horrified at the prospect of eighteenth century Lestat not mattering much, or being too boring to bother about in depth. It’s where we get to discover the entirety of who Lestat is at the core of himself; who he was as a human & the foundation of all his philosophies & why he is who he is…
I’m not sure if I’m reading it wrongly…? But this seems to suggest Rolin isn’t so interested in Lestat’s origin story?
"“What are the challenges about the books going forward? Not a lot of forward-looking story. It’s a lot of looking back. Origin, origin, origin origin. And so I don’t know how many times we can tell the origin of and how exciting that is,” Jones said. “I don’t think you know, you wouldn’t want to lean on O”h, point of view. Let’s look at this in another ‘Rashomon’ way.”
How to get around that? Jones suggest they might “lean in a bit more” to the framework of Lestat becoming a rock star and telling the world his tale.
“Lestat is, for the first time a forward guy, I mean, if you embrace those opening pages, and you say, the story is about a rock star, you know, maybe that’s where we’d be leaning a little bit more about what would be surprising,” he said “And then we have the same tasks that we had the first two seasons, which is making it exciting for people who have never read the book made exciting for people who have memorized every comma of the book.”"
Mhhhhh. So they already said Nicki would be important in s3. I DO think they’ll tell the story.
But… book canonically Lestat is tells his secrets via music videos. He could tell his own story like that as well??
Wouldn’t that fit with the goal of doing Rocky Horror and Hedwig?! For me it would! And I would LOVE them doing it that way I have to say, though they better hit all the big emotional moments ^^
I don’t think he isn’t interested in telling it - he has always said that there was only ONE way to tell TVL. And now we’re hoing to get that idea he had :))))
And I feel it’s going to be musical/music videos^^
Can you imagine Louis watching those… 😈
I actually wrote a fic about that btw :)) - so I PERSONALLY would love that :))

Do you ever think about how it’s canon that Blade is constantly in pain? How he constantly feels the aches of wounds engraved into his time and time again because they couldn’t properly be healed by the abundance dwelling within him? How something’s healed wrong and now he feels how wrongly they healed every second of his life? How he can feel his body being continuously reconstructed, a never ending cycle of his body being torn apart and rebuilt? How his hands can no longer forge because they have been destroyed? How multiple parts of his body, from his hand to his leg to his chest all the way down his torso (if you check his model) are encased in bandages?
And how Bailu’s line about him smelling like fresh blood has the potential for many interpretations, including the potential that some of the wounds Ren has that his body refuses to heal could literally still be open and bleeding?
Because I do, I think about it all the time. The state of constant pain that's he's in due to the very thing keeping him alive and not letting him finally die and rest and all of that coming together to be why he's so severely tired and just wants to rest? Yeah that lives in my brain
