Hey I have a question. I never saw the movie nor I want to see it +Nine sounds cool as fuck but....bk is in the movie) my question here is......why shig killed Nine?
When that scene was reblogged on Twitter I had the impression it was smth like "nine was using his name and shig wasn't pleased" ...can't be that bc this makes sense. Too much sense.
So did shig just kill the guy bc yes?
Maybe afo or the Dr evil asked shig to do so... which is plausible but damn...what waste. And it cements once again shig as a npc.
I'll try to explain this the best I can, because tbh nothing about this situation makes sense to me even today. And some context of the movie as well.
The movie starts with a scene of the LOV transporting Nine while he was still on a medical capsule inside a truck. There's a reference to this situation in the manga when the doctor request Shigaraki to deliver "something" for him.
Tumblr media
But here's a thing: neither the movie or the prequel chapter Horikoshi made explain where Nine was being delivered or what the doctor intended to do with him in case he arrived to destiny. It feel that missing context is important.
In any case, the heroes attack the truck trying to arrest the league. The truck is destroyed in the battle and this allows Nine to escape and go back with his team.
Then we got a couple of scenes were Shigaraki seem to be tracking Nine activities, also using Hawks to do the research job for them (it's worth mentioning the events of the movie are supposed to happen at some point after MVA).
Tumblr media
And after all this... nothing really, the movie drops this subplot and Shigaraki only appears again in the end when he comes out of literally nowhere to kill Nine. Allow me to ask how they even know his exact location? The black goo teleportation quirk doesn't even work like that btw.
Just like you my first assumption was Garaki ordered him to do so, maybe because after the spectacle Nine did in the island the doctor decided to eliminate him for security reasons. But we never got any indication of this being the case, in fact there's a scene when Garaki explicitly tells Shigaraki to not touch "it" (Nine).
Things became more confusing because in MVA when Shigaraki gives Garaki one of his edgy speeches about destroying everything he hates, there's a small cameo of Nine among the things crusty boy hates.
Tumblr media
On a side note: this is technically Nine's first ever appearance, even before the movie itself was released. A sort of foreshadow for what it coming.
But going back to the point: why Shigaraki hates Nine so much in the first place? We never got a clear reason for any of this, isn't like they ever interacted, the only time before the movie they have some kind of contact was the prequel chapter focused on Nine, and that was only Shigaraki looking at Nine through a window.
Tumblr media
Also the final scene when crusty boy kills Nine for some reason makes it sounds the situation is very personal? Like if Shigaraki hold some grudge against Nine for some reason.
Tumblr media
And the line "I agree, there only can be one king" doesn't make any sense because isn't like Shigaraki knew about Nine's ideology and his desire of rule the world. The writers makes it seem to be like they both interacted and had a long term rivalry for some reason, but that never happened.
Oh and it's extra hilarious how Shigaraki killing Nine for no reason directly contradicts this other little scene:
Tumblr media
If crusty a**hole always intended to be "a hero for villains" (as the story seem to pretend) what about Nine then? Idk but for me killing a defendless man while he was crawling on the ground doesn't seem too heroic.
Let's not forget Nine was a real hero for villains without presume about it. He saved the life of Chimera, Slice and Mummy in a way Shigaraki wish to be able to do with the lov.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly is funny to think all this one directional hate Shigaraki feels for Nine could be just crusty boy being jaleous, which won't be surprise considering Nine is superior to him in everyway possible.
But well, thinking about this on a perspective outside the story itself an explanation of why Nine was killed maybe is because Horikoshi just needed a reason to get rid of him, as his presence might be problematic for the course of the main story. I mean it would be a bit suspicious to have another AFO possible vessel who happens to be better than Shigaraki, and Nine is the only movie main villain to be permanently killed on screen, while all the others like Wolfram and Flect survived.
Anyway, all this festival of bs let a bitter taste in my mouth.
Needless to say, such a good villain like Nine surely deserved way better than he got.

Okay you know what fine. Modern Warfare (2007) managed to impress me pretty fucking good and I’m only two proper missions in.
Before I got into it, I was expecting something similar to Fallout 3, which I hate btw purely because of the visuals. Everything is gray, doors are hard to find due to lack of contrast, everything blends together. I was expecting the lack of so many gameplay features that are staples in modern games because no-one had come up with them, right?
Boy was I wrong. Sure the game looks a bit crusty, hell yall remember what kind of hardware they had 17 years ago? But it fucking owns it. The first thing I picked up on was the cinematics, cutscenes playing out like clips from movies, the transitions from the mission briefs to actual gameplay done with such smoothness that only modern games manage to replicate. I also loved the way the player is brought into the world, the tutorial portion feeling like an actual part of the game instead of something that feels forced and was hastely tacked on last minute.
The gameplay itself feels polished, makes it feel like I’m with a group of actual people instead of npc’s following paths on the ground. I don’t have much experience with firearms, but fuck those guns feel nice. They feel believable and solid, feels like I’m actually doing some damage.
I’m usually not too fond of chapter based games, especially when each chapter takes place at a later time in the future as the last, but I think MW does it well. Sure it gets a bit too action packed quickly and I got pretty nasty vertigo from all the quick paced gameplay, but the solution to that it to just take it a mission or two at a time.
Online folk do keep singing praises to this game, even regarding it as the best Call of Duty and it’s easy to see why. Honestly if this game stays at the bar it has set all throughout, I might have a new title to add to my top 5 games.

Started playing Outcast, a 1999 open-world sci-fi game and I'm kinda impressed so far! It's absolutely a janky, crusty old PC game...but that's absolutely what I signed up for! Also the version I got off GOG runs well on modern hardware...for the most part. Right off the bat I gotta say, I appreciate how quickly it lets you get to the open world, and I find these voxel graphics charming af!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a shame that the protagonist is a Gruff Military Protagonist Man (named, I shit you not, Cutter Slade), especially when the intro FMV introduces a scientist lady, but I guess that kinda comes with the Era.
Also, while every single line of dialogue being fully voice acted is entirely unexpected, the VA and dialogue aren't exactly good. It's also only clearly audible when you initiate dialogue with an NPC. Any incidental dialogue - including the computer lady that voices notifications such as nearby items - is damn-near inaudible (and guess what parameter can't be adjusted in the audio settings 🙃). This may well just be a bug but it's still kinda obnoxious.
Still, I'm kind of looking forward to seeing more of what Outcast has to offer. It definitely feels pretty ahead of its time.

My Filing Technique Is Unstoppable - Organization at the table
Tumblr media
Hullo, Gentle Readers. This week’s Question from a Denizen comes to us from crustygaymer. They ask, “ Hey, I'm new to DMing and I'd like some advice! I'm having trouble finding all the notes I need when we get the different parts of my sessions - how do you organize your notes (tabs in the books, printed sheets of notes, computer with multiple screens, etc...)?”
Great question, crusty. Speaking personally, I’m almost completely electronic these days. I still love to grab a notepad when I’m planning a campaign, but for the day-to-day running, I’ve got most of my notes, calendars, etc online. So here’s a bit of a glimpse into how I work and what I have active when I’m running a game.
Most of my note-taking these days is in an organizational program called Notion, which you can find online at Notion.so. I like this because it’s cross-platform and updates live. So if I take notes on my iPhone while I’m on the road, when I next connect my phone to the internet, any version of my notes I look at, on my iPad, Desktop, or Laptop, will be updated with what I had written.
Before any given session, I sit down and prep a Game Notes sheet for that session. In there, I jot some bullet points for a Recap. I also add in a few bullet points for the various plot points I feel we might hit for the evening.  If, for example, I know they’re likely to head to a specific tavern, I may have some notes like:
Tavernkeeper is Liam Whitetree, ex-soldier, human, male, salt & pepper hair, scar along right cheek makes him look like he’s always grimacing.
Tiefling bard with purple skin plays lute in the corner, golden eyes looking at each newcomer warily
Many rumors about the war in the west. Gnolls have some kind of secret weapon.
Gnome drinking everyone under the table. She has fiery red hair and a gap-toothed grin.
Sometimes these carry over session to session. If they don’t go to the tavern, I don’t toss the notes out; I copy them into the notes for the next session. If they leave that area, I might not include the tavern notes each session, but I won’t delete them. I’ll either reuse them when they finally do visit that tavern, or I’ll rename the tavern and use the notes for another such establishment down the road.
Most of my world-building notes now exist on a website called WorldAnvil. I found that I liked the format of this site much more than others. It’s fairly easy to organize and make it useful for both myself and my players. As the campaign has moved along, I’ve made entries for most NPCs, items, places, and so on that the PCs have heard of or encountered. This makes a robust wiki for the players to use to look up details they may have forgotten. It even allows me to note DM secrets about the various entries and to have secret notes that some players can see and others cannot.
For combat encounters, I’ve been using D&D Beyond’s encounter creator. I also like to use D&D Beyond in general for looking up monsters, spells, magic-items, and rules.
When I’m running a session, I have a number of websites up in their own windows. I have my Notion page up with the notes for the week’s game session. I have a D&D Beyond up for looking up references and to run any needed encounters. I have a WorldAnvil up in case I need to refer to any worldbuilding info. And in general, I find this is all I need to run a solid session.
After any game, I make notes about any new NPCs, places, or important info I may have improvised over the course of the session. I will then generally make sure I make a new WorldAnvil entry for them before the next session. I’ll also make some brief notes about what seems the likely next move for the PCs, and I’ll use these notes when I’m prepping for the next session as well.
I hope this helps, crusty. If you have any follow-up questions, feel free to ask. Until next time, Gentle Readers, may all your adventures lead back home in the end.

you didn't miss much by skipping Andromeda, it wasn't really a good game.
I did actually borrow it from a friend recently, and yeah, I’m not that into it. I haven’t properly played it all the way through, so I don’t have a real concrete opinion yet, but from the time I’ve had with it I think it suffers from a lot of the same problems that DA: Inquisition did.
Wonky pacing and really big environments that don’t have much in them. Idk what it is about Bioware games but I often find the worlds to be kind of vacant and tedious to explore. I’m going to be talking more about Inquisition because that’s the game I’ve had the most experience with and I’ve done multiple playthroughs. I might talk more about Andromeda in another post if I get around to finishing it, but for now I’m still reserving judgement.
I think the reason I don’t enjoy these games as much as other people do is because, for me, exploration is the most important element. I will ignore quests and characters for days just to go and get lost in the world and if that world doesn’t feel rich and immersive I’m going to lose interest in the game. In Dragon Age Inquisition, most of it is just, the same. Every dwarven ruin feels like the same thing over and over again and while maybe one or two of them has something interesting, I find that most of the time the reward for my exploration and puzzle solving is kind of anticlimactic. The experience just felt very shallow to me and sometimes having to have 3 people constantly following me got on my goddamn nerves. I’m just gonna say it, some of these characters (Solas) are not as charming as the writers think they are and they never fucking shut up. I’m not against having companions in games, but I would like to explore alone without having NPCs over my shoulder for every quest and interaction, interjecting their unwanted opinions into every quest and task (Solas). Also, as a side note it’s really weird that they can still disapprove of things when you leave them at home bc you’re tired of their bullshit (Solas). Like, wtf, you’re not even here, you don’t know what I’m doing.
Then again, the same thing happened in Origins and didn’t find it nearly as annoying, maybe it’s just these characters.....yeah that’s right, you keep on disapproving, I don’t even care anymore. Done trying to please your crusty, bald, ass. >8P
Back to the world being kind of big and empty, Skyrim runs into this problem too but I found that at least with Skyrim exploring is more often rewarding than not. Especially the Dwemer ruins. Blackreach looks AMAZING and I actually had a moment of shock when I realized the Falmer have started enslaving humans and mer. I didn’t expect that and it opened up a bunch of new questions and made me want to explore more because now I was curious about the Falmer. Add to that all the NPCs who are studying the disappearance of the Dwemer and the remains of expeditions you find scattered throughout, it really feels like this is a big deal, not just to you, the protagonist, but in the context of the world. And Morrowind had so many instances like that, where the more I learned the more I wanted to learn that I actually ended up filling in the entire map just exploring caves and ruins and imagining what life was like for the people that inhabited these places a long time ago. Everything to do with the Sixth House is just fascinating, why do they stack furniture like that? What were these dunmer strongholds like before? What gross process does a dreamer go through to become an Ascended Sleeper? The deeper I dug the more questions there were and I had such a good time finding these things that I lost hours deep into the night just trying to solve them. So many moments of “that shit is so weird I just HAVE to know more”
I never had that kind of experience in Inquisition, or Andromeda (granted, I’ve only had limited experience with the latter). Nothing in either game really fed my curiosity or made me feel like I’d discovered something unexpected and horrifying that changed my whole perception of the world I was playing in. Even the stuff that was intended to be some kind of big reveal in the main quest didn’t really grab me.
But comparing Dragon Age and Andromeda to the Elder Scrolls is apples and oranges, they are fundamentally different games with different intentions.
I feel like the best comparison I can make of a game that is kind of similar, in that it’s story and character heavy but also an open world RPG, is The Witcher 3, which is a game I feel does all of those elements right. I love that game, from the minute I boot it up on my PC I pick a random direction and just walk, just to see what I can find. That world is full of cool monsters, interesting NPCs and the story feels really fleshed out. It feels like it’s set in a detailed and living world. Also the DLC is actually worth it and feels like genuine expansions instead of just....bullshit. Yeah still pissed about what they did with Trespasser.
Dragon Age Inquisition does not. The enviornments feel empty or at worst, like mmorpgs, they have some crafting items, little mobs of annoying critters and cookie cutter NPCs who you can’t even really interact with. It feels like there’s a lot of aesthetic but not a lot of actual content to back it up. I feel like DA:I’s strengths are really in the characters and from what I’ve played of Andromeda, it seems the same. You’re going to get the most out of these games if you’re in it for the relationships you have with the characters and the content related to them. Which is fine, but that’s not what I personally prioritize in games.
So in conclusion, I think games like Dragon age Inquisition and Mass Effect Andromeda will make you happy if you like open world RPGs but want to spend a lot of time building relationships and getting to know your companions but people who are in it primarily for the worlds and the exploration might find both games a bit lacking. And that’s not to say there’s NOTHING to enjoy about the world and story, I still at least like DA:I enough to play it and I can see merit in Andromeda. So make of all that what you will.

I spent the weekend beating spyro 1 and 2 and I just wanna make a few points
- The levels look incredibly beautiful. Even though it’s clear they got rid of many wallpapers, textures and cool patterns from the castles and scenery in the original, everything flows nicely, I think it would be too much if they tried to keep it super accurate. The characters look cartoony, so it makes sense the scenery looks cartoony and simple as well.
- Also props for adding new minor details like the dragon you rescue on Toasty’s level is a painter. As soon as you enter the castle, you can see his paintings on the walls!!
- The dragons in spyro 1 look absolutely stunning, I’m really happy most of them actually say something instead of ‘thank you for releasing me’ and how they match their homeworld. Artisans World has painters, writers, cooks and sculptors. Peace Keepers has warriors with armor, weapons and battle scars. Magic Crafters has magicians. Beast Makers has dragons wearing straw hats and accessories and weapons made out of swamp creatures. Dream Weavers has a dreamy sleepy theme and the dragons wear fluffy slippers and nightgowns, hold plushies, drink tea and knit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(screenshots from @mossflayer)
- Tree Tops is still fucking me up
- Doctor Shemp’s butt. Good stuff.
- Sparx now is much more effective at pointing the remaining gems thank god
- If you like collecting skill points, the game now tells you what you have to do to get them (I’m never gonna get them anyway sooooo lol)
- MOST NPCS IN SPYRO 2 LOOK FUCKING DISGUSTING seriously tho i can count on my fingers the ones i didn’t find completely disturbing. The ones from Colossus and Idol Springs look like shrek, the wizards from Cloud Temples look like plastic bootleg emojis with hair, Greta looks like Felicia from tiny toon. Most of these characters were loved because they looked silly and charming. Even the enemies were charming. Now they’re just ugly and the enemies have gross crusty multiple chins lol
Tumblr media
- George the snow leopard doesn’t plop his butt when he sits anymore and I’m triggered
- I’m sad Juliet the bird doesn’t sound like a man anymore, maybe it was censored because it was implied Romeo and Juliet were not a straight couple?? They even made sure to give her eyelashes to make her look feminine wtf
- Also Bombo’s name was censored. But he’s still a weird creature wearing a turban, riding a flying carpet and throwing bombs. At least he doesn’t look human so props for them to try to make it less offensive. Now I’m terrified of him though
Tumblr media Tumblr media
- They all have teeth. So many teeth. I’m trying to get used to it BUT ITS SCARY.
- Hunter’s minigames (specially the popcorn one and the stupid alchemist) feel much much easier now. I don’t know if it was made easier on purpose orrr technology just isn’t as crappy as it was before. The turtle soup one also felt easier.
- Speedway/Flight levels still make me want to die, thanks game
- SPYRO CHANGES COLORS WHEN YOU GET A POWER UP!! I though it was hella cool that his scales glow in different colors for different power ups. I honestly would love if there was an option to make him permanently glowy once you get the superflame after beating the game 100%
- Fighting Gulp made me want to cry. I don’t remember if the camera was this messed up in the original but now it just goes everywhere and you can’t tell where he’s going to hit. I also fell of the arena and toasted Spyro many times because I couldn’t tell if I was near the edge.
- ELORA LOOKS BEAUTIFUL AND I WANNA CRY
Tumblr media
I will add more things if I remember lol

Final Fantasy XII would be a better game without Vaan and Penello
Just what everybody needs, thoughts and musings over a video game that is over 10 years old.
So I recently completed the remaster of Final Fantasy XII and I just couldn’t get over how much two of the main characters bugged me. It wasn’t so much their grating personalities, it was more so their lack of relevance. They take up screen time from more interesting characters and really serve no purpose.
It’s no secret that Basch, the old grizzled veteran man you meet in a prison, was originally intended to be the main character of FF XII. The prevailing thought was that Basch was too old and grizzled to appeal to the Japanese market so a different person was chosen to be the lead. Vaan. Vaan’s involvement in the plot is such an afterthought that it seems pretty clear that he was, indeed, thrown in at the last minute.
And my question is, if he’s such an afterthought, why include him at all? There are several parts of Final Fantasy XII that just seem to exist in order to validate Vaan as the protagonist. The intro of the game features Vaan’s brother biting the dust, a character who is completely irrelevant. Ashe can see a ghostly image of her would-be husband. There is a reveal as to why she is seeing these images, but for some reason Vaan can see them too. It’s never revealed why though. It’s just “a more interesting character is doing something interesting and...oh, well, fuck, give Vaan that too.”
The “give Vaan that too” is more prevalent later in the game when Ashe is confronting Judge Gabranth. Gabranth has played a pig part in the fall of Dalmasca and Ashe is finally confronting him. The other heroes are letting Ashe say her piece. Then Vaan pipes in with “B-B-But my brother! You killed him too!” A character that isn’t referenced outside of the first five hours is brought up out of nowhere to make Vaan seem relevant.
You might notice I haven’t mentioned anything about the other person in the title of this article, and for good reason. Penello is meaningless. She is just there to boost the player character number to six. Her personality is “Is Vaan’s friend.” Also “Larsa likes her I think?” There are some NPCs with more characterization than her. And I’m not even talking about Vassler or Reddas. She just exists.
I think Vaan and Penello were included for two reasons. One, obviously, was so some crusty old fuck wouldn’t be the lead in a Final Fantasy title and two, so main party would equal six. The six man party seems pretty important to gameplay - particularly in Zodiac Age, where two jobs per six party members equals all twelve jobs. My proposition to improve this ancient game would be to remove these two characters and replace them with two new characters.
FF XII’s Ivalice is a vast world full of many fantastical creatures, but the only non-hume the party gets is Fran. A Vierra, which is a rabbit-like human looking creature. So it’s the most normal looking of the fantasy creatures. So why not replace Vaan with a Bangaa and Penello with a Nu Mou or Moogle?
For the Bangaa, you could have the pre-freeing-Basch stuff from the perspective of Balthier. A Bangaa could lead him to Basch and then be forced to escape with the crew. For the moogle (or Nu Mou), you could have that character join you when you join the clan. It’s just like “Well, look dude, we don’t want you running out there without some help, so here’s a veteran guy whose clan fell apart who will help you out.” Are these characters I suggested ripe with personality? Probably not, but if you’re going to have boring and flat characters at least make something about them stand out.
As it stands, FF XII is a very good game with a very interesting story. If it just changed a couple of things with its narrative, I think it could be remembered as one of the best Final Fantasy titles.  Oh and Balthier should have been the lead, ignore the shit about how it was originally supposed to be Basch.
