last show: I don't watch a lot of shows but the last thing I watched was the animated Cowboy Bebop, either that or the Super Mario Bros. 3 Adventures show. I can't remember.

listened to RCCC finally! the very noncomprehensive and subjective new info. Under the cut because it's very long:

Matt's both excited and terrified for the potential this campaign to really deconstruct what came before and it does sound like he is unsure what precisely to expect

Everyone is excited for more of the Shattered Teeth; Taliesin holding out for the moon as "favorite landmass"

Ashley could go even harder with Fearne's chaos and the cast encourages her to do so

Sam really loved FCG and FRIDA's relationship and he and Christian texted about it a lot during that arc! (Christian throws some credit to Aabria's encouragement)

Unsure if FRIDA is a werewolf

Ruidus "noticed" Chetney and Matt has more to reveal...

Because Ashton's rage was heavily directed towards that lack of knowledge about their past they are clinging very hard to the reveal of the Titan of Blood and what that might mean (also, fun talk about Taliesin's theme of Holes In The Past); it's also giving them a sense of feeling robbed.

Marisha really loves how Orym has built upon the Ashari lore; Liam loved seeing Orym's family, which was very important since Orym's childhood was, unlike Vax and Caleb's, a happy one with an extended family

History of Shattered Teeth was heavily influenced by the collaboration with Brennan for EXU Calamity

Imogen spent a long time thinking Liliana would have her back and feels extremely abandoned; she loves her powers and doesn't want to lose them, but doesn't see another option given the harm of the Vanguard.

Fearne is not worried about being Ruidusborn, as she is perfect :)

Chet long rest rolls are, as we know, real. The cast (Travis included) think this is hilarious. Travis does NOT have a backup character. Matt points out that they should uh, probably do that. Liam jokes maybe Bertrand will come back instead.

The duality of aeormaton; FCG defeating Shithead and within a day asking the creatures on Slival to shit on him. Matt regrets this worldbuilding detail; the cast does not.

Orym is an exploration, in a way, of imposter syndrome; he feels responsible but does not feel like he is the right guy for the job. Marisha notes that Liam's vision for Orym was very much as a sidekick, but then found the group was all somewhat conceptualized as go with the flow.

Taliesin's favorite rage is Time, but Space is also fun. Liam loves the immovable rod in the hammer; Matt also does.

Travis is the best and good things come to him; he enjoyed Graz'tchar a lot for the brief time he had it, but also thinks it's way better to give the sword to Novos and see what happens.

Ashley wanted to snoop in the captain's quarters and did not intend to seduce him but he wouldn't leave, and so. Fearne did get a boon with the HP reduction, but it's a secret for now. (Christian adds that FRIDA getting to be there for a Fearne theft was an honor)

Marisha's notes are copious but as a result they are 10% useful, 90% "WE SHOULD CUT OFF LUDINUS'S HEAD." [which to be fair is imo useful]. Sam points out there's a lot of lore. They shout out Dani.

Sam jokes sarcastically about seeing his past characters when the cast at large is asked (Marisha, Liam, and Taliesin all answer but it's mostly the same as when they've talked about it on 4sd).

The cast is busy and have not seen a ton of other shows lately but Sam does confirm he recently watched Jury Duty; Marisha and Matt like watching creepy movies and video essays together.

I feel they should uh...screen mental health related questions a bit harder; it's not that it's not important but I get the sense it's really difficult for the cast to answer to a live mic when they're here to talk about d&d.

Who would they swap character sheets with in Bells Hells: Travis and Marisha would both be Ashton, Taliesin would be Chetney, Ashley would be Laudna or FCG, Sam would be Fearne, Liam would be Laudna, Laura would be Fearne.

Sam has no dice superstitions. Laura disputes this; Sam will put dice in jail if they roll too poorly.

Voodoo donuts has dick donuts, to Laura's great joy. [I will say I suspect the reason they are going to RCCC is that LA to Oregon is an easier trip than to the east coast. also I cannot tell which cast member (or possibly Christian) said "I want a dick" but yes, much like Laura, I did laugh.]

Someone asks about the Titan Blood idea because they also have this concept in their campaign! Matt says that this made sense given that Ashton was transformed to a Genasi as part of his backstory.

An impulse that Ashley didn't follow through on was setting the Omen Archive on fire; she thinks it could have gone very badly and Matt confirms he did have a battle map ready

Has Vex seen the bug? YES (Laura tells the story in Vex's voice; Liam interrupts as Vax; Matt interrupts as Trinket)

How have your characters affected your worldview? Taliesin jokes it's therapy; Laura says it helps you empathize with people around you by pretending to be someone very different than yourself. Matt agrees that it's a reminder to treat everyone as individuals. Liam especially notes that Caleb taught him to accept the challenges within life without trying to escape them. Marisha encourages a self-insert to start, but to branch out after that. Travis says anyone of any age can have an adventure.

okay its crazy how this actually says rosquez...

marc is the worlds worst nun lbr. like yes he is catholic yes he feels the faith and loves god. praying in the abbey with that little intense focused freak face of his you know the one. but good lord. annoying. thrill seeking. hates rules he doesn’t understand. will nawt shut up. constantly dancing in a most unpious manner. sneaking away to see his brother. how do you solve a problem like marc marquez. hes a darling he's a demon hes a lamb.

well. for his own good!! they send this man to babysit valentino rossi’s gaggle of insane children/wards. not knowing that mr rossi broke marc’s heart some years ago when he was very young and foolish after some perceived betrayal… (side note. rosquez could do casablanca. to explore later.) so marc arrives to a risk-taking werewolf pack of young teens who hate his ass. or are at least very wary after the last 8 governesses imo. pecco is one of the oldest and is doing a slightly secret very coy romance with vale’s baby brother (we are not setting this against ww2 politic bc i said so). cele is the nicest and youngest obv. he still helps bezz put a pinecone on marc’s chair and a lil snake in his pocket. stinker. marc gradually wins them over by doing some sort of series of risk taking activities with them and lying to vale about their mild crimes... finds a lot of joy in the process <3 his brother can visit whenever he wants... he's almost. happy.

BUT. in the years since vale's has developed a new love interest: the BARONESS. who i refuse to develop. (sorry women.) and everyone says they are to be married....so marc turns up and they did NOT tell vale who the new governess would be but he's at the end of his rope with his insane kids (he started adopting after him and marc imploded to fill his time but they were always supposed to do that TOGETHER. and its overwhelming). so marc's in the house with his ex and his ex's kids and it’s awful and awkward and its soooo close to what they both wanted and so far at the same time. they REFUSE to talk about it and how they used to mean EVERYTHING to each other… but over time things gradually begin to thaw. marc is so good with the kids. the house starts to feel alive again with marc’s big dumb laugh…. vale starts joking with marc how he used to. but every time marc lets himself think just maybe… the baroness is there. and its killing him.

so it all comes to a head when the kids make vale throw an extravagant ball adn marc puts on his best (still fraying...) tux and looks so handsome and vale cant keep his eyes off of him all night. the children (parent trap mode: level expert) make them dance and literally everyone. and i mean everyone (sorry to the baroness). can see that they are so so in love that it is SICKENING. please go look at these gifs from the movie i think about them all the time. like marc and vale's bodies press together and its so warm and their faces are so close and there's a moment adn they lean in... and then marc sees the baroness watching and its like someone poured ice water down his spine.... he cant ruin this for the kids they deserve a family!!!! and he runs away. leaves in the night without saying goodbye. returns to the nunnery so vale can get married without him...

pls talk about ginger snaps i love hearing peoples thoughts on it, i am so mentally ill about this movie ;;;

LET'S GOOOO ok so i have so so so so so much to say

1.) one of the ways ginger snaps really succeeded for me in the way that some of the ways that other movies about the horrors of puberty and womanhood is that it's really willing to commit to the concept of the "benefits" (being perceived as desirable) are only barely masking terrible effects that make her cry in her sister's arms. many other movies of this genre just throw some blood and sharp teeth on a gal and call it a day but ginger snaps has a lot to say about how puberty is inherently horrifying. "i can't have chest hair, B, that's FUCKED" and the taping the tail to her leg being my favorite examples. The dichotomy of thrashing violently between trying to own it and have fun with it and being like "oh my god this is fucking horrible i'm having a mental breakdown"

2.) throughout the third act is a prevalent sense of "we almost made it" because the ideas these characters have are genuinely good ideas and the timing just gets fucked all to hell. I also love the detail that Brigitte kills her sister not as an act of self preservation but simply because she flinched with the wrong hand 3.) i love how layered the foreshadowing is throughout the movie. Nothing comes out of left field the whole movie! I love how mimi rogers does arts and crafts and is always surrounded by flowers and then when Brigitte obtains monkshood it's believable! i love when movies are creative enough to avoid falling into the deus ex machina trap! 4.) this movie has like really really lovely things to say about 5.) i love when horror movies are willing to examine the tragedy of all. So many slashers fall into the trap of being so focused on having a triumphant final girl moment at the end that they forget to express mourning and grief which is imo the best part of any good horror movie. When Brigette hills her sister it's not really a win, and she ends the movies in tears with her dying sister in her arms.

6.) on that note the codependency of a close sibling relationship is probably what sells the movie the most to me. "I'm furious with you and you're my nemesis right now but I would die for you is SO REAL. 7.) my favorite scene in THE whole movie is after ginger kills the popular girl when the parents get home and they just act like it's one of their staged death photos (ties back to the foreshadowing thing i was talking about earlier) I love when horror characters are smart and resourceful and creative.

8.) did you know there's no cgi in the whole movie not even touch up cgi it's ALL PRACTICAL EFFECTS AND MOST OF THEM STILL LOOK GOOD EVEN TODAY

9.) i love that they put the werewolf transformation in the back of a moving vehicle in the dark? muah muah muah muah

10.) every character feels thought through and well developed even if they don't really have a lot of screentime. like ginger snaps is a fairly melodramatic movie but they manage to feel like people through all of that the bully the mom etc

My Personal Ranking of Teen Wolf Media so far, CONTAINS SPOILERS

1. Season 3B, this is literally the best writing, directing, and acting of the series, with Dylan O'Brien flexing his acting ability, reminder he had no formal acting training, and the death of a main character cemented this as the best season for any YA show in TV history. The Nogitsune aka Void Stiles is fucking terrifying.

2. Season 4, this season is underrated to me, from Kate's return to Derek losing his powers. However this season saw the departure of Tyler Hoechlin from the series as a main cast member, and that may have soured this season for many people. Between the werejaguar and Peter turning heel the villains are at their best and we get the iconic scene of Derek turning into a evolved werewolf.

3. Season 6B, the end of the series kicks into high gear and doesn't stop until the end. Stiles, Derek, Jackson and Ethan all return after long absences and make the show feel like Teen Wolf again, the villain is awful but Theo and Liam easily carry a few episodes.

4. Season 6A, due to Dylan O'Brien needing to leave the show to film Maze Runner, the writer's decided to have new villains called the Ghost Riders kidnap Stiles and effectively erase him from everyone's memories. This leads to the best acting from Tyler Posey imo. This also had the return of Derek via archive footage and Stydia becoming canon.

5. Season 3A, The Alpha pack is severely underrated and I loved how Danny got some character development even if it was small.

6. Season 2, Underrated? Yes. Good? Ehhhhh. The Kanima is fucking iconic and Colton Haynes shows off how fucking incredible he is as an actor. Derek's "Alpha high" is also well played. Boyd and Erica are good side characters but they deserved better

7. Season 5, the first season without Derek and it shows, the show decides to hint at a next generation spin off (which never happened) with extra focus on Liam Dunbar. But it feels like Scott, Stiles, Lydia and Malia are given the backseat. Theo Raeken is easily one of the best villains, manipulating everything to his benefit until it back fires on him. However this season gets boring fast with twenty episodes following one story. My favorite scene is still Stiles finally snapping and punching Scott.

8. Season 1, the start of the series also happens to be the worst. Scott is at his worst but is still likable in parts. The actors quickly get better with every episode, Holland Roden definitely improves fast.

9. Teen Wolf: The Movie, I don't even want to talk about this. This is Scallison fanfiction with all the bad parts of fanfiction, Derek is killed off, Malia and Parrish are a thing, Stydia broke up because of a dream etc. However, I did like Crystal Reed's performance as Allison, balancing being numb and brainwashed and scared because she doesn't know anything, Eli Hale is the best part, and the scene of Derek, Scott and Eli roaring with all the rooms matching their eyes is iconic, the score helps a lot.

Ha this one is fun! I like the idea of Lupin playing music during class - he’s already the “cool” professor, so this seems like a no-brainer! It was hard not to be influenced by the PoA movie, what with its lovely little Boggart montage set to jazz music, but I decided to roll with it and make Professor Lupin’s curiously curated lo-fi beats to relax and study to. My jazz knowledge is pretty limited (compared to my knowledge of, say, shitty 90s alternative rock bands), and I also felt like this playlist should be mostly instrumental, so I initially felt a little constrained with these selections. I ended up choosing a few lyrically topical songs, while the rest are just my personal instrumental jazz faves that I thought were fitting. Overall I’m quite pleased with how this came out – so I hope you enjoy!

Thelonious Monk & John Coltrane - Ruby, My Dear: Gorgeous relaxing piano/saxophone song. I only know this song because Dave Malloy plays it in Ghost Quartet and if that sentence means anything to you then PLEASE TALK TO ME

Sun Ra - You Never Told Me That You Cared: from that same album as other Sun Ra one (I seriously can’t recommend it enough!). It's so crazy to feel heartbroken from an instrumental song like. This is literally just Notes and now I’m gonna start crying

Stanton Moore - Magnolia Triangle: another of my personal jazz instrumental faves. I’m just so impressed that something in 5/4 can sound this smooth and catchy

John Coltrane - My Favorite Things: this song is one of MY favorite things. The first time I heard it was because one of my teachers played it during a work period, so... rather fitting, right? Also it's SO long sorry about that

omg yessss i do !! i would rec dead ringers and the lost boys but i know youve seen those unless i am making that up.. sooo! the thing is fantastic if you like body horror and watching a group of men who cant trust eachother struggle to survive against a shape shifting creature etc etc also kurt russell serving cunt. - re-animator is great if you love gore and mad scientists and corpses and some silliness in your horror alongside some very interesting compelling dynamics :) - near dark is a moody atmospheric vampire flick that is serious and not serious at the same time and focuses a lot on characters and their dynamics but has found family drifter vamps who ride around in stolen cars and camp out in hotels and its something id rec to fans of the lost boys even knowing its not as good... its very fun imo! i enjoy the characters a lot :) - the hitcher is a great cat and mouse game movie with some serious Vibes between the protagonist and antagonist and theyre both super great in it the antagonist is insane and that makes it extra enjoyable and wild! also i adore nash. - fright night is another vampire movie but pretty different imo especially with all its characters and dynamics and is mainly a beloved of mine because of the practical effects theyre very good and i find the movie super enthralling. so 80s :-) the blob is also a very fun movie if you like body horror and a fucked up big pink blob alien creature taking over and devouring a town! - killer klowns from outer space is soooo silly fun too and colorful and insane and has a great score and a must-watch for anyone that enjoys clowns and practical effects it also gets kinda brutal and the clowns are awesome i love it !! - an american werewolf in london is just one of the greatest werewolf movies of all time with some of the best practical effects everrrr and had some very silly comedic aspects while also getting brutal and heartbreaking at times. - night of the comet is a great one about two sisters making it through the apocalypse with cannibal mutants but its also so much more than that and is so interesting to me also very visually stunning with the setting and sky shots and cinematography! - elvira mistress of the dark is just one of the movies of all time its so camp and funny and elvira is Everything absolutely a must watch imo! <3 oohh i have a lot more favorites and im not sure im doing these justice with my very short descriptions but honorable mentions to two of my newly discovered underappreciated favorites terror train and fade to black also you can filter my films to 80s and horror on my letterboxd to see more if you wanna :)

Soooooo I finally watched the Teen Wolf Movie and I have a couple thoughts that I need to write down....

- First off, I don’t really get Hakari as a character? Is she supposed to be Liams girlfriend? Just a friend? I got the impression that she and Scott had met before and knew each other but I have no clue how they met or how well they knew each other. I felt like we got to know nothing about her other then that she is a Kitsune. I suspect that this is a result of Arden Cho declining to be in the movie. They needed a Kitsune in the main cast because the villain was the Nogitsune but couldn’t use Kira. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of her lines were originally Kira’s and they just changed the name. 

-I don’t like that Allison came back. It’s fine and all but it’s just not my vibe. I kinda assumed that once all the villains were gone she would disappear? I thought that she was more a projection or a spell and wouldn’t stay alive so now that she is real (I’m assuming) I feel kinda weird about it.

-You can always count on Teen Wolf to have queerbait. Eli really does come across as a Sterek child. Like he very much had Stiles energy (clumsy, bad at lacrosse, sarcastic, obsessed with the jeep) while being Dereks son. There is no way that the writers had no idea what they were doing with this. Coming from someone who doesn’t even ship Sterek, it’s so obvious that they wanted Sterek shippers to draw those parallel even though it’s not canon

-I HATE Malia and Parrish together. It doesn’t make any sense at ALL. Why do they keep trying to pair Parrish with these younger women??? Like I get that they are both adults but when you remember that he had that weird flirting thing with Lydia in season 6 and now this? Plus Malia was with Stiles, then Scott, now Parrish? Can’t she just exist without a relationship for a bit please?

-The chemistry teacher was not a good villain. I literally forgot about him lmao he was not a memorable enough character (imo) to have the dramatic face reveal and need the hood the whole time. 

- I feel like the idea of Eli being scared of being a Werewolf because he saw his dad as a monster was a really interesting idea that went terribly. It could have been fleshed out a lot more. It just felt like a really fast jump from Eli cant transform to Eli is a werewolf. 

-Overall, I feel like there weren’t enough meaningful interactions between characters? Why didn’t we get to see Liam and Mason talk? They are best friends!! Or Liam interacting with Scott more given that he was Scotts beta? I saw this on tumblr earlier (sorry I don’t remember from who) but Eli and Malia are literally related and it’s hard to tell. It’s implied that Malia was somewhat involved in his life since she knows that he has issues transforming but it’s not obvious from their interactions. A lot of this movie just felt awkward because these characters have pre-existing relationships that went ignored. It doesn’t help that the cast was just whoever was willing to show up and not who was needed for the story

-Derek dying is a terrible ending to his character especially since he burned like the rest of his family. I don’t think that he would just abandon his son. I get that he was dying to protect him but there had to have been other ways to kill the Nogitsune

It’s funny because our love for Dracula, at least erotically, derives imo from the movies predominately! (Although the screenwriter for Coppola’s Dracula says that the book is “wet and oral” so you know, the book does have its influences, hairy palms or no…)

Lugosi’s 1931 Dracula was marketed as “the strangest passion the world has ever known!” And women drove to the movie in FLOCKS and even wrote love letters to Legosi.

From there the erotic and romantic subtext was made more and more prominent, next best in Hammer’s Dracula featuring Christopher Lee (1958), where Lee was chosen specifically for being a hottie that would draw in women dreamin and fiendin for some tall mysterious man to bite their necks.

Director Terence Fisher even instructed actress Melissa Stribling during scenes in which Dracula bit Mina to “imagine [she was having] one whale of a sexual night, the one of [her] whole sexual experience” and that she needed to “Give [him] that in [her] face!”

After the Hays Code ended in 1968, 70s horror film boomed with vampires, especially sexy ones, so you got lots of sexualized Dracula movies as well as straight up pornos featuring Dracula lmao

But most memorable yet is Coppola’s romantic, tragic and overwhelmingly horny Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)! Coppola himself describes the movie as “an erotic dream”, which like, yeah lmao Jonathan almost gets snagged into a man-eating, orgy amongst the vampire wives; the werewolf/Lucy scene; and the Mina/Dracula embrace really come to mind.

This doesn’t even touch the queer erotic readings of the Dracula novel, and thus the queer subtext present in the movies as well between Jonathan and Dracula! 🧛‍♂️ 🦇🩸

One of my favorite things about dracula daily is that we, tumblrina that we are, known lovers of sexy vampires just looked at Count Dracula, the most famous and sexualized vampire of our time,and we were all collectively: "Nah, he is awful."

And to be fair, that's how you are supposed to feel after reading the books, but I just think it's funny that Count Dracula is the only vampire we all just refuse to find sexy.
